It's the way that tire buying should be welcome in.
We got a lot to get to today, probably way
too much New York Jets talk, you know. We we're
gonna buy into what all these Syracuse Mets, Jets, sports radio,

(00:45):
sports TV dorks and many of them my friends, I
call them dorks lovingly so discuss average football team firing
their coach. But we'll get to it. Plus Dodgers padres
and a level of nastiness which I don't think most
are familiar with. And I have a little bit of
a different perspective on this by the way. Also, I

(01:07):
would encourage you to download our podcast, not just of
this show, but we also have a podcast only version
hour of the show, and on that I believe Matt
Holliday is going to join us. That's the third hour
of the show. Just type in Doug Ot we download
podcasts and we'll talk about just Dodgers Padres. It's such
a good, interesting series. And of course Dodgers now backs

(01:29):
seemingly fully against the wall and a bullpen day after
losing last night to the Padres. But let's put baseball
aside because Aaron rodgers appearance on Pat McAfee was shifted
until Wednesday. Now, there's a couple of different levels to it,
a couple of different levels to it. There's the there's

(01:51):
the fake news from a guy who has put out
fake news before or also been a conspiracy theorist before.
And there's the ownership peace to it. And I'll get
to what I mean by both of those in a second.
Let me play for you a little bit of what
Aaron Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee show, and then
we'll react to it. Here here's Rogers talking about the

(02:13):
Robert Sala firing.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
As far as any of the ridiculous allegations out there.
I'm not going to spend more than one sentence in
response to it, and that is that I resent any
of those accusations because they're patently false. And it's interesting
the amount of power that people think that I have,

(02:36):
which I don't. But I love Robert, and it was,
you know, one of those days.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yesterday he talked about his Robert, his relationship with Salah.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yesterday was a day that reminds you of the simple
fact that all of us who've played know all too well,
and that's that it's a tough business. It's a beautiful profession,
it's incredible, it's done so much for our lives, but
it's also a really tough business. I love coach Sala.
We have a very solid relationship we have since you know,

(03:14):
I met him in twenty twenty one and had a
nice conversation when they came and visited us for joint practices.
He was a big reason why I came to the Jets,
you know, I felt like the team, you know, was
a solid team, had a relationship with coach Hackett obviously,
and I really liked coach Sala everything that Matt Lafleurora

(03:35):
said about him the few interactions I've had, the times
that we went against him, I just had a lot
of respect for him.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Then there was this in talking about the fact that
he met with Woody Johnson prior to Salad being fired.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I did talk to Woody wood He called me on
Monday night. We had a short conversation. I appreciated the call.
It was a genuine call, and he just asked me
how I was doing. You know, obviously I got rolled
up on in the game, and you know, my ankle
got pretty banged up, So he just called and was
asking how I was doing. And you know, we talked

(04:13):
about the game and how the disappointed I was in
my performance and that I'm going to play better and
we're going to get this thing turned around. And then
we hung up. Wood He has no obligation to let
me know of what his plans are. Whether or not
he knew what he was doing in that moment is inconsequential.
I just appreciate the call that he was checking on me.

(04:33):
It was just like a friend call, like he would do.
Hey man, I saw that hitting the game, You're doing okay.
And we had a nice short five minute conversation and
then that was that.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
So here's the thing. I'm willing, by the way, to admit,
or I'm willing to accept that Aaron Rodgers did not
go in and say I want Robert solid fired. But
I also know, and I think all of us realize
that if Aaron Rodgers wanted to play for Robert Sala
and Robert Sala alone, do you know he'd be the

(05:05):
head coach in the New York Jets today. Robert Salah right,
that we're all and again, this is not specific to
Aaron Rodgers. I've said this about Kobe because Kobe got
Mike Brown fired. Walked in, said, Mike Brent, this is
not working. Mike Brown was gone. It's like, what ten
games in the season, they were trying to run the

(05:25):
Princeton offense. It was a disaster with Dwight Howard and
UH and the Steve Nash, Right, Steve Nash got hurt.
And I don't have Dean barely played for the Lakers
if at all. It was a mess. Right, Kobe walked
in said the same working. Lebron James has gotten plenty
of coaches fired. He tried to get some coaches fired.

(05:48):
Has succeeded and get David Black fired. And what I
think is amazing is for all of Aaron Rodgers' honesty,
And again I believe him here. I believe that though
he lost a lot of credibility in the media and
in the public with lying about being inoculated and when

(06:13):
he wasn't vaccinated and trying to be clever, I actually
believe that Aaron Rodgers didn't say fire that dude. Well,
maybe I don't totally believe it, and I'll get to
that in a second, But even if that is true,
Aaron Rodgers absolutely positively has the power to say, would

(06:36):
he What are we doing? Robert solid is not the problem.
We got other issues. Let's not do that, you know,
Let's work towards a better solution. Let's get better offensively,
Let's figure out what we want to do play color wise,
Let's move forward. Because the truth is that Aaron Rodgers,
though he may not be capable of coaching a team,

(06:58):
and he may have this frame ship with a guy
who clearly can't call plays, get him in on time
and be efficient as a play caller. The fact is
Aaron Rodgers has been a part of a championship organization
for the better part of his career. And so if
Aaron Rodgers is like, look, I don't know if what
Robert Sala is doing not doing when I'm just in
the film room, I'm just in the QB room. That's

(07:19):
all I'm trying to do. But this is not a
championship caliber coaching roster. We're not being coached like a
championship team. I just I wonder at any point will
anybody just own it? Right? We've had murderers admit to it.
Why can't we have a quarterback go yep, he wasn't

(07:42):
good enough. I like him, hell of a guy, not
good enough at his job. Sorry, we move on. And
if nothing else, if you have truly nothing to do
with it, there could have been the gosh, I'll be
honest with you, had I known that wood he was
going to make a coaching change, I would from happening.

(08:02):
But that's not what happened. And that's why so many
people called bs Because even if Aaron Rodgers didn't get
Robert solid fired, even if we're willing to go hey,
he didn't go in. He just I mean, like, look,
the timeline of events is at least a little curious. Wait,
so you talked to Woody before he talked to Sala.

(08:24):
He fired Sala and it never came up. Ever, you're
a Hall of Fame quarterback who's won a Super Bowl,
He've won what four MVPs and the owner of the
team made a change at the head coach position and
it never came up. Seems a little odd. He's under

(08:50):
no obligation to tell me. Really, Aaron, weren't you upset
in Green Bay? Remember you had to have how much
tequila he had? You guys, Remember that he had to
have tequila. And the big thing in Green Bay was
not just they drafted a quarterback instead of a wide
receiver when they took Jordan Love, it's that they didn't
tell them right. People say all the time, Hey, man,

(09:13):
I can handle it. Just tell me the truth. Aaron
Rodgers especially, so again, if you believe this tale, we're fine.
If you believe this tale, then Aaron Rodgers, at minimum,
at minimum, should have said, I wish I wish you
would have asked me, because I would have said, don't

(09:34):
fire Robert. In the middle, it would be he should
have he should have said, don't fire Robert. And the
reality is there is point zero zero zero zero one
percent chance that the owner of the team talks to
the Hall of Fame quarterback of the team and doesn't

(09:56):
talk to him about firing the head coach of the team,
especially when the quarterback of the team has had a
major issue with his previous franchise over being integrated into
the decision making, right, I mean, that was the thing.
So wait, you go to Aaron Rodgers to see what
players you want to pick up. You extend Aaron Rodgers

(10:20):
when he'd only played four games with the team. You
tell Aaron Rodgers is so important that when he gets
hit and gets smoked in London that you check on him.
But you don't bring up Oh hey, by the way,
I don't want to bury the lead here and listen.
I know you got to go, but I'm going to

(10:40):
fire the head coach with the next phone call. Now again,
I'm not holding it against him, the fact that he
lied about not being vaccinated. I'm not. I don't care.
Everybody else does, I don't. I'm just looking at just
look at the facts. He has had an issue with

(11:02):
the Packers over being involved in decision making, and I'm sorry,
but picking up a slot wide receiver or a fourth
wide receiver, or one of your buddies is offensive coordinator,
a quarterback coach, or whatever. Pales in comparison to firing
the head coach five games in the year and they
don't tell you, and he's like, no, it's his decision.

(11:22):
He's allowed to do it. He doesn't have to bring
me in. I was born at night, not last night.

as San Diego is taking a two games to one

(12:02):
lead hanging into Game four. Ton I congrats to Fernando
Tatis for being our Express Pro Pro of the Week. Adam.
Shepter reported today that while teams like the Jets remain
interested in pursuing Adams, the fact that trade has yet
to be completed means a deal is likely gonna wait

(12:23):
another week now, right, see kind of how the dust settles.
We'll check in with Zach Rosenblatt, who's a senior writer
for The Athletic covering the Jets, up coming in about
five minutes. I did want to say this in regards
to Fernando Tatis, Dodgers, and Padres, that one's become a
bit of a street fight. I know it's baseball, right,

(12:44):
so like pimping home runs is not like a real
street fight, right, But it feels uncomfortable for the Dodgers.
It feels uncomfortable. Like Freddie Freeman is a class act.
By the way, those Veneers, what do we think of
those Veneers of Freddy? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
They do look they do look a little too good.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Believable choppers. What do you think they're, Sammy? Is that
those Veneers?

Speaker 5 (13:15):
They're chompers? My man, They're they are veneers. They are
big old chomps.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Was it Matt Dillon and something about Mary? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (13:21):
There real were those real or fake. I thought those
were yeah, I thought those of those were real teeth.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
No, no, no, Freeman's a class act. Show he is a
class act. Mookie's a class act. Many Machado's not. Fernando
Tatist is not like it's not an act. This is
who they are. And they have the Dodgers. I don't
know if they're in their head. I mean, but look,

(13:48):
at the end of the day, Dodgers rotation is just
not good enough, just not healthy enough. And then you know,
there's some things that went against them last night, things
that go kind of bumping the night, like Manny Machado
out of the clearly out of the base path or
felt like the really out based path, and that kind
of started the floodgates a little bit. But I just again,

(14:09):
at the end of the day, this is it's like
a Peyton Manning thing, right when Peyton Manning would take
on the Patriots, the Patriots would grab and hold and
get a little nasty because it was the Colts offense
was a thing of beauty played indoors timing based. He
would read the defense, knew exactly who was going to
be open when and throw to a spot and those
throws to a spot. Those timing was disrupted and it

(14:31):
was all because the Patriots kind of made it into
a little bit a street fight. You can do that
in basketball as well. You can just ugly up a
game and teams that they like to run their sets
and they like to do their pretty stuff. You make
it ugly or you make it just kind of a mess,
and it can be really hard for a team to
play at a different pace in basketball called getting sped up. Football,

(14:52):
you can get sped up or you get discombobulated baseball.
I don't know how Dodger fans feel. I just think like,
look at the Padres. If teams have personalities, the Dodgers
kind of carry themselves as a regal. We're better than you,
you know, we're classier than you, and they probably are.

(15:14):
But the Padres have made this series their type of series.
It just works for them. There's a ridiculous amount of
trash talk there, and I think that's part of what
works for them. Stug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming
to you from the Tairaq dot Com Studios. So, Jay

(15:34):
stud do you agree or disagree with my premis By
the way, Ben Bolanel joined from the Boston Globe, covering
the entire NFL in a moment, agree or disagree with
my premise on Dodgers Padres, and the Padres kind of
make it into a bit of a street fight.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Yes, the Padres have made this series. They've brought the
Dodgers down to their level, and they're street fighters, and
they're dirty. They play the game the wrong way. The
Dodgers are clean and they're wholesome, and they can't fight
this fight. And it's very frustrating for a Dodger fan

(16:09):
because the Dodgers are more talented and they paid one
point five billion dollars to those top three hitters only
to go one, two, three in the eighth last night.
Very disappointing. I've got lots of thoughts. But Ben Bowen's
on hold.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
All right. Benvollen joins us. He covers the NFL for
the Boston Globe. He joins on the Doug Gotlib Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. So there's one of three
things that I'm willing to believe on Aaron Rodgers and
Robert Sala being fired. Ben the idea that the owner
Woody Johnson called him and only checked on him and

(16:44):
didn't mention, oh, hey, by the way, I'm going to
fire the head coach. Kind of hard to believe, especially
when Aaron Rodgers has been in on other personnel decisions,
and Aaron Rodgers one of his big issues with the
Green Bay Packers was that there was church and state
right front office and players and they don't mix. So

(17:07):
at worst, he could have after Woody Johnson. If Woody
really didn't say anything, he could have been like, man,
I wish Woody would have run by me, because if
I actually like Robert Sala, I believe he should still
be the head coach. Secondly, when they had a conversation
and he said I'm going to fire Robert Sala, if

(17:28):
he didn't, if he wanted Robert Sala be the head coach,
Robert Sala would still be the head coach. And of course, lastly,
if he played a part in it and said like, look,
this guy's just not good enough. You're not a bad guy,
nothing wrong with him, not good enough, then at some point,
why won't anybody just own it and go like, yeah,
I've played for championship teams, Robert's just not ready to
coach a championship team. Which of the three is it.

Speaker 6 (17:53):
I mean, I think you're right in that Aaron Rodgers
clearly had a hand in this, whether it was direct
or not. I think a few things could be true.
Woody Johnson, I don't think was ever totally enamored with
Robert Sala. Woody Johnson is not the one who hired
Robert Salad, who was Woody Johnson's brother when Woody Johnson
was serving as you know, ambassador to the US over

(18:14):
in England, so it wasn't necessarily his hire. And what
it does seem like happened was, you know, also reports
that last night Robert Salo was on the verge of
taking the offensive coordinator job away from the Daniel Hackett
and giving play calling duties to another member of the staff,

(18:36):
And potentially it sounds like considering even firing the Daniel Hackett,
who was of course Aaron Rodgers boy. So Woody Johnson
calls up Aaron Rodgers. I don't know if Aaron Rodgers
says you have to fire him, but I think he
made it very clear to Woody Johnson that he didn't.
He wasn't thrilled with Robert Sala and he wouldn't go
to bat for him. And so Woody Johnson could have
made that decision on his own to then fire Robert

(19:00):
Sala even without Aaron Rodgers, you know, ordering the code red.
But it does look like they caught wind of they
were trying to demote Aaron Rodgers guy Nathaniel Hackett, and
in turn they went and fired Robert Sallas. So there
is a whole sworded tail going on there with the Jets,
and I just don't see, you know how the issue

(19:21):
with the team right now is with the offense and
the quarterback who throw three picks last week. I don't
see how firing the defensive coach makes that situation any.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Better unless you're going to completely acquiesce to the to
the player, who then of course says, I got no
blood on my hands. It's a where are we with
the DeVante Adam Steele?

Speaker 6 (19:45):
I mean, obviously everyone's looking at the Jets, and now
that Aaron Rodgers is kind of wielding his power with
the coach, why wouldn't the Jets go out and make
that trade for Devontae Adams, which I think they need,
not necessarily that they don't have enough talent, but clearly
Rogers just doesn't feel comfortable on that offense, and they

(20:06):
need him to feel comfortable very quickly. And Adams is
a guy that he's been on the same page with.
So really just recreating, you know, the Packers offense with
Blizard and Devonte Adams and just get what Aaron Rodgers,
whatever he wants. They're all in with him. They don't
need the second round pick necessarily, that's you know, not
what they're looking for right now. It's all about twenty

(20:27):
twenty four. So I would think that pretty soon a
trade for DeVonta Adams is going to happen. And obviously
the Jets are the team that everyone's looking at right now.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Yeah, how amazing would that be for Tom Telesco. It's
not just to get a second round pick, but potentially
a high second round pick, you know, as opposed to
like Kansas City that's essentially a third round pick considering,
you know, the amount of games that they're going to win.
Ben Boland joining us here on the Doug Oatleab Show
on Fox Sports Radio. What about the Chiefs. There's been
lots of talk of them adding a wide receiver, yet

(20:59):
now they've just reim Hunts now productive Juju Smith Schuster
they bring back productive. You know, they feel like they're
going back to the guys that know the system and
know Mahomes. What do they do with their current allotment
of wide receivers.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
Yeah, it's interesting that they're five to zero, even though
Mahomes has some of the worst stats of his career
so far. This was such a fascinating stat for me.
In their win the other night, Patrick Mahomes had like
thirty five past attempts something like that. Not one of
them was into a tight window. So Andy Reid is
just an incredible offensive coach and his ability to get

(21:36):
guys open to me, says they don't have to go
out and get a wide receiver. They're taking Juju Smith Schuster,
who looked dead on arrival with the Patriots this camp,
just looked like he had nothing left in the tank.
He's going out there and going for one hundred yard
and catching touchdowns and they're finding ways to get him open.
So to me, you know, the fact that these injuries
are happening early in the season to the Chiefs is

(21:58):
a blessing for them, you know, kind of a blessing
in disguise. That's a team that always we've seen it
now in the last few years, they kind of struggle
to find their identity and then they hit their stride
in December in January. So now, obviously they're taking a
hit with Rashi Rice and Hollywood Brown and some of
these other injuries, but they've got plenty of time to

(22:19):
kind of work through the kinks. They've got a great
defense led by Steve Spagnolo, and obviously Patrick Mahomes is
still the best quarterback in the NFL. So you know,
with Andy Reid dialing up these plays and getting guys
open with their scheme, I don't think they need to
make any big plays at wide receiver. And you know,
it's not like teams are lining up to trade their

(22:40):
wide receiver to the Chiefs either. They face that problem
where teams don't necessarily want to trade them their talent
because they want to be thrown the team at top.
So I don't know if the Chiefs have a big
move coming other than just trying to work with the
pieces that they already have.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
What caused the Patriots to finally play drag may I
mean they had to.

Speaker 6 (23:01):
Their offense was broken with Jacoby Brissett, who everyone knew
was a seat warmer. When they signed him. I mean,
everyone knew the deal when you signed Jacoby Brissett and
draft drink May number three. But the last three games
they're averaging under nine points a game. They scored two
touchdowns the last three games. They just you can't keep
going out there with the same lineup over and over.

(23:23):
You had to change something up, and the quarterback change
is the most obvious move. So, you know, I think
it was the right decision, but I do question a
if Drake made ready. Everyone said he's going to be
a project, and you know, his ability to read defenses
is going to be a little bit of a work
in progress. But really the situation around him is a mess.
I mean, the other rookie quarterbacks, you know, they at

(23:45):
least have some veteran receivers, really good defenses to rely on.
Jaydon Hahill's superstar. Drake May has nothing. He is the
worst offensive line in the NFL. It's been revolving door,
the worst receiver group. No one who scares you requires
that the team or you know, can beat press covers
on the line of scrimmage. The defense has been hit
by injuries. The Patriots are just a mess right now.

(24:06):
So it's like good luck, Drake May. You're going to
need all the help you can get. And you know
it's good that he'll get some experience this year, but man,
if he get if he suffers a serious injury and
he spends his off season rehabbing instead of practicing, that's
going to be a disaster for the Patriots. So they
really the number one thing for them is just keeping
Drake mayhealthy and getting him to the finish line this year.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
I'm told that that Brock Party is a fifty million
dollars plus quarterback next year. That's what I was told. Okay,
Christian McCaffrey gets hurt, they got some other they got
some other injuries, and they've lost three out of four games,
and he's throwing six touchdowns four interceptions. I'm not going
to place it all on brock Party. But as as
we point out, like other teams devoid of some players

(24:51):
because of injuries, are performing better, and he does have
his two talented wide receivers and his and his tight
end so well, the Niners reevaluate their love affair with
Rock Party not this year, but in terms of what
they're going to do in the future.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
I don't think so. I think you know, I saw
Rock pretty two weeks ago against the Patriots, and I
know it's only the Patriots, but I was still very
impressed with there.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Are two wins over the Patriots and the Jets. Ben
say that again, there are two wins are over the
Patriots and the Jets.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Yeah, I mean the Jets aren't flouches. That's the real
defense that the Jets have. Look the Niners, They've done
this in years past too. They're a team also where
they suffer some losses early in the season obviously losing
Deebo Samuel the last few weeks. That's been tough that
you know, they've been hit hard by injuries. I think
you can see Purty his confidence growing in the way

(25:46):
just he runs the offense and the things that they're
able to add on to. Now I get what you're saying,
and I know, like if any team can just be
a quarterback factory, it's the forty nine ers And they
really could just I think cycle guys through there and
they'd be pretty successful because Kyle Shanahan is such a
good coach. But you know, party's your leader, and you
want to keep building with what you've got, and I

(26:08):
know the fifty million dollar thing is a big number,
but teams can all afford it now. They budget that
that's what quarterback costs, and they're going to have to
make tough decisions elsewhere. I mean, I think Deebo Samuel's
clock is taking quickly there, and maybe a guy like
George Kittle too. But to be purty, you don't want
to keep switching your leader every few years. It's a
bad message for your locker room. He's a very good quarterback.

(26:29):
I'm a believer in brock perty and I think the
Niners are going to be sticking with him long term.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Am I wrong to think Danny Dimes may have more
life as the Giants quarterback after this year?

Speaker 6 (26:41):
No, he does. I mean I wouldn't go so far
yet to pendle him in for next year. I think
he's clearly kind of on a week to week, month
to month kind of thing. But you got to give
him and Brian Davile credit. They've been playing a lot
better the last few weeks. Two wins the last three games.
That's a good win to go out to Seattle and
beat the Seahawks on the road. Daniel Jones has been

(27:03):
very efficient, completing more passes being safe with the football.
It's not exciting football. And again I wouldn't count him
in for next year yet, but they've at least righted
the ship there and got things under control and cooled
the seat off a little bit for Daniel Jones and
for Brian dave Ball. So the Giants certainly seem to

(27:24):
have figured some things out there.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
What are the Browns going to do with Deshaun Watson
and that albatross of a contract?

Speaker 6 (27:33):
What a disaster. I mean, the guy is just it's
a terrible situation where they have this, as you said,
this contract that's just a total albatross, and it's him.
I mean, I know people you could point to, you know,
maybe the offense of play calling or the offensive line
or I mean, it's all on Watson and he's just
he's not seeing the field. He's the only quarterback with

(27:54):
twenty sacks this year and he's got twenty six. And
week after week they're getting loan out. They're not even
in these games. They're not competitive. So they're saying for
now that they're going to stick by him. Once you
mention him, you know, once you mention him, you're done.
So I understand not taking that decision lightly and moving
forward very cautiously with that. And I don't necessarily know

(28:17):
if James Winston is the answer, but this, you know,
if you're the Browns, even with two years and ninety
two million dollars left, this has to be the last
year for Watson. Organizationally, you have to be looking for
an escape patch, even if you have to pay him
to go away, like the Broncos did with Russell Wilson.
I think the Browns have to consider it because it's

(28:37):
almost like holding the organization hostage at this point, this
massive contract and it's just massively underperforming quarterback. And you know,
no one on the fan base is, you know, roots
for Deshaun Watson. No one wants him in there. They're
just sticking with him because of the contract. It's a
terrible situation, and it just feels like the longer that

(28:58):
he stays in there, the worst it's going to get.
For the round.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Anthon Richardson gets hurt a lot, But I mean it's
kind of painfully obvious. Joe Flacco is a better quarterback now.
Look year one, it's fine, if the veteran's a better quarterback.
Year two, it's still so night and day, and again,
I know he's banged up, but they don't run him
much when he is healthy because they fear him getting hurt.
Then he gets hurt anyway, and he doesn't see the field,

(29:23):
not accurate as a thrower. Like what's the least like
there with Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
Yeah, and to me, the Anthony Richard situation is like
the number one thing that if you're the Patriots you
want to avoid where he only played four games as
a rookie, had the shoulder surgery, and then he's rehabbing
and he's just missing out on crucial development times. So
you really don't want that to happen to Drake May.
The Colts are they say that there's no controversy. You

(29:49):
know that Anthony Richardson is their guy, and I would
expect them to stick by him for most of the season.
But Joe Flacco, it's amazing. He's showing why the Browns
didn't want him and why the Dolphins didn't want him
this offseason. Either he's too good. He's too good. Teams
don't want to have to deal with the controversy that
he brings. You know, the Dolphins, they don't want Joe

(30:10):
Flacco breathing down to his neck and the Browns Flacco
is too popular with the fan base. The Browns fans
would be going crazy for Flacco right now, so it's
been working against him, how good he's been playing. No
team really wants to invest in a forty year old
Joe Flacco as their starter, but he's an unbelievable backup
and he probably would be a better option for the
Colts right now, but you know they're invested in Anthony

(30:33):
Richardson and that's what they're gonna do.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Ben, you're the best man. Really appreciate you joining us.
Look forward to reading your work on tomorrow night's Thursday
Night game, Big One obviously Niners taking on Seahawks. Then
of course getting right for the weekend. Thanks for our
guest on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (30:47):
All right, thank you, Doug.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Be sure to catch the live edition of the Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, coming to you from
the tyreck dot Com studio every day at this time,
and I mean do mean every day at this time.
We like to get you caught up on some of
the stories to day, and we do so by handing
it to the talented Dan Byer and letting him play
a game.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Okay, Dan, Today's Wednesday.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
What you got, Doug? The game today is for better
or worse?

Speaker 1 (31:24):
All right?

Speaker 5 (31:25):
This is where we give Doug a topic and he
tells us whether one is better or worse than the other.
As simple as that, Doug. We start out with the
Major League Baseball playoff format. Last week. It was a
different question Today's showdown for better or worse? A five
game series versus a seven game series.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
I think a five game series is worse than a
seven game series, Okay, I just do. I do think
at some point some of these series you almost wish, like,
you know, a team gets up, you know, two to
oh or whatever, three to oh, you're like, all right,
we're done. We don't you do what? You could move
a seven to a five? Right? If it ever gets
to three to zero, You're like, all right, we're good here, sure, Mercy, Mercy, yes, yes,

(32:08):
but I do think a seven, like you know, Dodgers
padres and and look maybe it you know, it obviously
doesn't matter if the Padres win tonight, and and because
the Dodgers' staff is so depleted, it wouldn't matter if
they win seven. But I don't know, like there's a
lot of juice in that orange.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
I think I would like to get it all out.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
I think Fox Sports, the broadcast uh company that owns
the rights to baseball, is going to push for one
of two things. You need to make this division series
a seven game series to to lessen the chance of
the top seed losing because no team has on the
Buy has won a series since they started this format,

(32:51):
or they need to recede after the wildcard round, or
do both because we're on the verge of the BUY
teams being eliminated for the third straight.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
You're sure, I don't even to Jason's point, I don't
even think it's I don't even think receiving helps. To
his point of if no BY teams have won, that
mean except both teams are losing, right, I mean it's
pretty absurd. I'm missing something. Don't worry. Next week's question
is going to be seven game series versus a nine

(33:23):
game series. That will be next week for better or worse,
Baseball fan base Doug Mets versus Yankees. Oh, better fan
base or worse?

Speaker 1 (33:38):
I think the Yankees the worst.

Speaker 6 (33:40):
I just.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
The amount of arrogance is just it's it's the worst.
It's obviously much bigger. And look, Yankees fans Mets fans
are equally annoying, like they want to play this underdog
as Iowa, Sam's Potney than this. They spent more money
than anybody. But I mean, let's be honest, like, how
do you know somebody's a Yankee fan? Just ask them.

(34:04):
I mean you don't even have to ask him.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
They'll tell you, just like I went to Halvard.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Yes, it's the exact same thing as Harford. How you
know somebody went to Harvard. Just wait, they'll tell you.

Speaker 5 (34:15):
All right, Doug, for better or worse? In baseball postseason atmosphere,
afternoon games versus night games.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
Uh, I don't think you can be night games ever.
I just do. You just can't be.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
I'll tell you what we were just talking on how
it looks right now in Detroit, and it is a
beautiful sunny what we we don't even know if it's crisp, Doug,
I mean, because everybody's in short, it's crisps.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
It's crisp. I'm in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and as I
sent you guys the picture broadcasting from the home studio today,
I'm looking out at Green Bay, which is Lake Michigan,
and it is sixty five risp, clear, perfect, like the
if you were going to say, like, what, it's fall,

(35:05):
That's what it is. So it is crisp. But I mean,
don't you guys like when they go to their they
go to the mound, they get.

Speaker 5 (35:13):
Blowing their hands, like Yankee Stadium at night for some reason.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
Really, I mean the Bartman game was at.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
Night, yes back, last night was last night was awesome?

Speaker 1 (35:22):
At night.

Speaker 5 (35:24):
It was okay. I think I don't know. I kind
of liked the afternoon deal.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
Also, you get the shadows in the afternoon, and it's like,
are you really going to do shadows? Is that what
we're gonna do here? Playoff baseball with shadows?

Speaker 5 (35:35):
You a fall guy, Doug, your love fall fall guy?

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Tell me, like, tell me that what's there's only one
negative to fall? It's it. It is the absolutely the
one negative litany of positives. Apple season leaves weather, sports
kids in schools. If you want to go somewhere right,
you don't have to worry about traveling with a bunch
of kids. There's not snow yet, so you don't get

(36:01):
you know, for the most part, obviously Tampa and Hurricane
Milton's side. For the most part, weather is pretty much.
You know, you don't have the big thunderstorms that keep
you from travel. You don't have snowstorms or whatever. There's
only one negative about fall. Do you guys know what
it is?

Speaker 5 (36:14):
Winter's next?

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Correct? Inevitably it is always followed by winter.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
Yep, it's true. That's why spring. I'm telling you. Those
fifty degree days in the third week of March, they're
amazing in the Upper Midwest.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Yeah, except you get people to take out their shirts
and it's like fifty and you're like, whoa, can we
wait paying wait a couple months.

Speaker 5 (36:36):
The basketball is all messy. Maybe it was dribbled in
a puddle where snow used to be, but still doesn't matter,
all right. For better or worse, Doug name change guardians
versus Commanders Guardians playing right now, Commander's playing good football
in the National Football League. For better or worse than
the name change push, it's both bad awful awful.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
It's just awful.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
I did not like the Guardians at first, and then
I have really warmed to it. It's actually it's very
close to Indians. It's just gar instead of in. I
always thought this perfect transition. I always thought that was
the reason they did at the cheap thing. They just
have to change the first couple of letters, but they
can keep the colors and the branding the exact same.

(37:21):
It's also the Guardian. Was that the Guardian statues or
that they've got in Cleveland as well?

Speaker 6 (37:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (37:26):
All right, that was That's game Time.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
That's Doug gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. The
Midway is next here on The Doug Gotlieb Show on
Fox Sports Radio.
