I think Bills fans are loving today. And the chill
that was in Buffalo was not felt by the Bills
fans of the Buffalo Bills. He was felt so much
by the San Francisco forty nine ers. And that is
where we start today. There's a lot to pinpoint on
what has gone wrong with this San Francisco forty nine ers.
But you know what last night was, Manzi, last night

in a game that I don't even think it's fair
to make this declaration, but last night you just realized
it's not our year, it's our it's not going to
be our year. And it was magnified in the Christian
McCaffrey injury that we expect will likely cost him the
rest of the season. Kyle Shanahan talked about it after

the game. We'll hear from him in a second. But
in terms of what last night was, it wasn't how
they lost, it wasn't who they lost to. It's the
accumulation of everything dating back to the offseason and where
the San Francisco forty nine ers find themselves right now
that this season is not the season they wanted after
(01:48):
losing a super Bowl in overtime.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, since the off season, as you just mentioned, there's
been a lot of adversity that the San Francisco forty
nine ers have had to go through, and last night
it was just really the cheering on top because it
was isn't the first time that maybe you've thought, ooh,
this might not be the Niners year. This wasn't the
first time. It just was the last of it where
it was like, yep, okay, this is not the year

for the forty nine ers, unfortunately, but better now than
losing in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I don't know, try to give them silver lining, you
know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, No, they think that, and they are the San
Francisco forty nine ers fans. They think that if this team,
and I think that they felt that up until last night.
They felt that if this team could sneak into the playoffs,
either as a division winner because the NFC West is
still up for grabs, if they could get in as
a division winner, or if they could get in as

a wild card, that everything would take care of themselves
and they would go back to playing playoff football. And Manzi,
I've never felt that with San Francisco. I've never felt
that the entire season. Name me a team that has
distractions throughout the entire off seat that ends up using
those for good and it pays off during the season.

I don't have one for you.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, I think, doesn't happen. Doesn't happen, Brandon Ayuk, Trent Williams,
they're holdouts. Then we enter the season and Christian McCaffrey's
injury history is now brought into play, and that was
at the forefront of last night. He misses half of
the season and forty nine Ers fans are telling everybody,
wait till McCaffrey gets back, then we are going to

be rolling well. In the meantime, you've lost Brandon Ayuki,
you just signed to that contract. Poor Ricky Piersall ends
up getting shot in the offseason. There's another point that's
to no fault of his own. But when Pearsall has
now shot, Brandon Ayuk shows up the practice before he
ends up blowing out his knee and isn't wearing the
same sort of practice shorts that the other team has.
Kyle Shanahan makes him change into shorts. The reason why
(03:49):
I'm intermingling all these things is at all these points
you thought now's the time. This is when it turns around.
This is the forty nine Ers, oh destroying the Jets
on Week one awesome. The next week they lose to
the Vikings. The next week they lose to the Rams.
Guess what handled the Patriots with these next week low
and lead lose that home to the Cardinals. This is

not the same forty nine Ers team as a year ago.
But week after week, after setback after setback, after controversy
after controversy, they still tried to tell us that this
team was different, that this team would turn it around
because they are defending NFC champions and again lost the
Super Bowl in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs. And
that is the definition of Super Bowl hangover. It's one

of the worst hangovers that we have seen. And last
night put a period to the sentence of the San
Francisco forty nine Ers are set to repeat. They are not.
It is done. It is over, and last night showed up.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
You can't really blame those forty nine Ers fans for
holding on to hope this entire time. I would have too,
especially with the way their division looks. Like you and
I saw all of these problems early on, because that's
not our team. But if that's my team, I'm gonna
hold on to hope based on not just last year,
but the last couple of years and how they've come together.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
But in reality, you see.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Other teams this year who have actually gone through their
own adversity, like the Bills, like the Lions, and they
continue to get past it. The forty nine ers have
not gotten past anything. They just kind of have put
everything to the side every time it happens. And like
the Christian McCaffrey situation, Biggot, we were all bamboozled, every
single one of us, because that didn't just happen.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
They just told us very last minute about it.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
And so again I don't blame rich Davis or coworker
for holding on to hope for that team, but the
hope had been gone. Every week there was less and
less hope, and then yesterday was just.

The final art hallways are littered with forty nine ers,
not just.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Rich Davis the one I'm thinking of.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, I live next to a forty nine er fan
two houses down that they have they have hopes that
this is the season. You want to know why they
had hopes because they knew that this was it. If
it's not this year, it's over. And that was the
thing with San Francisco, to me, that was so that
was so daunting. And when you look at this season,

it's everything has to be in the season. You want
to know why, because you got to pay brock party.
This is the last season that you don't have to
pay your quarterback and make that decision. At some point,
you're going to have to make a decision on Christian McCaffrey.
And guess what. Christian McCaffrey, before his run in San Francisco,
was thought to be an injury prone running back. His
(06:38):
talent was unquestionable, but it was whether he could stay
on the football field. During his time in San Francisco
up to that point, basically flawless he was on the
football field. But guess what, that reality sets in, And
that was a reality that I don't think people were
willing to look at as a real thing because guess so,
let's just run it back. Let's just run it back.
(06:58):
They'll do it again. Just run it back, get to
the super Bowl again, and this time you'll win it.
It's not that easy. Trent Williams is another year older.
Now you've paid Brandon Nyuk. Now you're wondering what's gonna
happen with Deebo Samuel who's also had his injury history.
Nick Bosa is hurt. Now we find out Fred Warner
has been playing on a fractured ankle or whatever for

the last ten weeks. Like these are all the things
that add up. It's the number of games that you play.
It's the expectations that you have. But Monci, your point
is one hundred percent correct. Forty nine Er fans did
not want to face this reality because this is all
that they had. This is it. There is no next year,
not with hanging brock Perty, not without Christian McCaffrey coming

off of a significant knee injury, let alone him dealing
with his Achilles problems in the past. It is all
over and now you have to figure out a way
to regroup it a completely different way. I think that
there's some frustrations that you see with Kyle Shanahan. I said,
we're going to hear from him. We will. But that's
why the forty nine ers fans last night was it
and I think it's a harsh reality for them today.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
And it was a rough way to go out because
it was unbelievable. They just couldn't get anything going, and
in the snow where it was like, oh, you just
get one quick step over your defender, you're going to
take off, as we saw literally James Cook do every
single time he touched the ball. But nobody on the
forty nine Ers could get anything going. It really was
period our season is done. And to add to everything
(08:23):
you just said, not only do they have all of
these problems going on. Literally we just listed you did
a list of the things that have been happening since
the offseason. You have all these other teams that are
getting better and better like you.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
It's not that we just have to hold on.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
No, what you're holding on to is the past, because
there's other teams that are getting better around you now.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
So you have to get better.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
But now you have all these questions about your contract,
brock party and all that. There's no way you're going
to be able to turn this around to compete in
the next couple of years.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
It doesn't seem that way.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
This was Kyle Shanahan talking about the team's lost last
night to the Buffalo Bills and them holding onto the
football or lack thereof.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
You know, we got back in it with twenty eight
to ten, but then we had two more turnovers after that,
which got none. So playing in those conditions us having three,
them having zero. The way they ran the ball made
it real tough.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Listen, losing in Buffalo is a commonplace for the rest
of the National Football League. Losing in those conditions it happens.
But the Christian McCaffrey injury is the big one to me.
And now there's even more on the shoulders of brock Perty.
And if you were a forty nine Ers fan coming
into the season and you were to say, Okay, you're
going to try to run it back, but here's the deal.
(09:36):
You're not gonna have Christian McCaffrey for a majority of it.
You're gonna lose Brandon Ayuk for most of it. And
guess what during the middle of the season and as
you enter your stretch run, Trent Williams is not going
to be available. Yeah, that and that's exactly where the
forty nine ers are right now. None of those would
be reasons for you to think that the forty nine
ers could run it back again.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
And maybe we were all delusional too.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
I'm a outing myself to the fan base that once
Christian McAffrey was back, he was going to just be
back to normal, which is delusional of me to even
think that, right, and especially off of what he just
went through to go and play in.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
The snow like that, and he did look good for
what three four drives. It actually did look good for him,
And you were like, okay, because.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
He seemed like he had a slow star understandably so,
but it's like did they they were desperate shove him
back into a situation when they should have eased him
back in.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
But as we have been talking, the Niners had.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
No other choice because it's now or never, So even
if Christian McCaffrey was not one hundred percent ready, they
had no other choice, and it backfired in the worst possible.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
I don't know if it would have prevented it or not,
but I think I feel like they should have. I mean,
Jordan Mason and Isaac Grendo you saw last night and
end up getting into the end zone. They had filled
in capably at times for him, and I felt that
there should have been more of the passing of the
torch that way. But Kyle Shanahan said, full go, We're
going with McCaffrey as our guy, and said why would
(10:58):
there be any limitations? Were given them the four workload,
and now here they are with another significant injury, which
again was a part of his past.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
He's gonna ask you, yeah, because you will told them well,
the age, the injury, you know, Kyle, all of these things.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, to ask you, I just thought. I just felt
that there was no guarantee, not that not that Christian
McCaffrey would look a certain way, but that things would
be the same as they were for the forty nine
ers if Christian McCaffrey came back and he hadn't been
the same back. But then you're like, Okay, is it
because you don't have ayuk Is, because you don't have
Trent Williams? What's the deal? And now the injury history
(11:33):
ends up popping up. But I was not convinced that
Christian McCaffrey was going to be the fix. All here's
forty nine Ers quarterback Brock Pirty on what now sits
ahead of them for the rest of the season at
five and seven.
Speaker 6 (11:44):
Every game's got to be must win for us. So
you know, we don't have any room clearly if we
want to make the playoffs and you know, get ahead
and do the thing that we've set out to do
before the season. Man, everyone's got to be a must
win and so that's playing his day and we all
know that. So, like I said, we all just got
to be accountable and grow from it. And you know,
we don't have a lot of room for air right now.
(12:04):
We got to go.

We forgot to even mention brock parties shoulder injury.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Sure he's dealing with yes, like the Brandon Allen.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Game, right right, So again I guess hold on to hope.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
But why there's the there there's a mathematical way that
they could win the division? Yes, there is. You have
three home games of your final five left Bears, Rams
and Lions. Is it a given that they win all
three of those? Heck? No, Is there a given that
they win two of those three? No?
Speaker 7 (12:38):
Not.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Maybe at the beginning of the season when we looked
at this as it was was playing out, but I
don't think so. You also end the year at Arizona,
team that beat you earlier in the season. Arizona had
troubles with penalties and getting into the en zone yesterday
against Minnesota, but by all accounts, they probably should have
won the game against Minnesota. Like Arizona, for whatever they are,
they are legit in who they are, six and six,
(13:01):
They're going to give you a dogfight. There's no way
San Francisco runs the table after this, And even if
they did, Manci, even if they did, the point remains this.
When the forty nine ers came into this season. They
weren't competing with the Cardinals, they weren't competing with the Rams,
they weren't competing with the Seahawks. They were competing with
the Eagles, they were competing with the Lions, they were
competing with the Packers the top of the NFC. And
(13:22):
even if somehow miraculously you figure out a way to
maneuver a couple of wins and you get into the playoffs,
you aren't at the level of those other teams. Yep.
And that's the difference to me with San Francisco and
why it's now over.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
And now I'm sure teams that are playing the Rams
to finish the season or the Rams, sorry, the forty
nine ers, I'm looking at their division. Any team playing
the forty nine ers is not looking at them with
any sort of fear.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
They don't see them as threat.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
You're right at all.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
So that's not going for them either.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
It's what a world we live in. Yeah, every year,
aren't there teams that are in and out of the
playoffs and you try to get but I guess what,
when you saw the NFC this year, you said, well,
San Francisco will be there, right, Not only.

Does hey, San Francisco will be there. I said the
bills would.

Like every party isn't the same every party isn't the same.
I know, we just trashed the forty nine ers. We
didn't even talk about the stupid stat that says how
many Pro Bowlers have missed games? Yeah, because you got
old guys who made a lot of Pro Bowls. Now
they're hurt. That's what happens later on in your career.
Guys miss games because guess what, there's a lot of
miles on those tires. You're playing playoff football, you're playing

into February. That stuff catches up with you at some point.
But last night, I don't know if it was even
entirely the forty nine ers fault. This is my problem
with snow games. You get muted football. Even the Buffalo Bills,
who were dominant in the game last night, were not
the Buffalo Bills that we are used to seeing. They
(15:49):
figured out a way to win that game. Home crowd,
they're accustomed to the conditions. All of that played into
the account that Buffalo was able to win. They weren't
perfect last night, and now they were the San Francisco
forty nine ers, and the forty nine ers nor the
Buffalo Bills could do what they really wanted to do
because of the conditions. And this is my point about
(16:10):
snow games and going back to what we had with
the Browns and Steelers on Thursday night. I don't want
to see this every single week. I don't want to
see this in big games. It's why Super Bowls typically
aren't played in cold weather places. They're played indoors where
the climate is controllable. Last night is fun for a minute,
(16:31):
But if you really wanted to watch the forty nine
ers and you really wanted to watch the Bills go
at it, I don't know how that can be better
last night than what we would see with them in
a neutral spot or a place where weather conditions weren't
affecting the actual play on the field.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
What if the Bills were playing another team like the
Steelers where they're used to the snow, and it was
a competitive game to the end, you still wouldn't like it,
Still wouldn't like it, still wouldn't like it.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Well, Dan, I don't know what to tell you.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
I don't think running on tiptoes is fun because you're
afraid you might slip because the conditions.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
But this isn't an every week occurrence. It isn't.

It isn't, and that's part of football. You play in
whatever condition. You play where the ball lands, you should
know that is a golfer. You play where the ball lands.

Under repair, drops, Yes, you play.

Whether it's snowing, raining. The only time you don't play
is if there's lightning.

And if there's if this did happen way more often
than it did, then maybe, but they don't happen as often.
It's not a super Bowl game.

play in baseball when it rains?

I remember the World Series in two thousand and eight
when they called it because of rain and the sixth
inning between the Rais and Phillies, well.

You cann't see anything, and.

It was it was pouring. But the Rays, the Rays
were able to score in the top half of the
sixth inning, and it was because the Phillies couldn't field
the baseball. And so like is that on? Is that?
Like the point is is if you're gonna try to
determine something. Then the Phillies came back and won the
game and won the World series a few nights later.

But the point is is of playing these games. Yeah,
it's neat with the one off, but now this is
the second straight week on a nationally televised game that
we have seen two teams have to go a completely
different route and not play how they would normally play football,
and we're all supposed to love it. I just I
would rather to get a real sense of where the

forty nine ers are. I would love to see how
they matched up against the Buffalo Bills, who got Matt
Mulatto back for the first time in over a year,
and he's on the field, and all of these factors
are playing in Let's get a real judge of where
these teams are. But we can't because they're afraid of
slipping on the twenty six yard line. Because you can
only plow the twenty and the twenty five in the
thirty in the thirty five. It's a mess. It's not

enjoyable football.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Have players so that they don't enjoy it, because I
correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like I
haven't heard players say that they don't like playing like this.
In fact, most of the time, the players look like
they're having a grand time.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
If I'm Josh Allen and I'm the story of last night,
I have no idea on how you could enjoy it.
Would want to play in that every single week, but
I would want to throw the football, I know. But
now this is the this is the second straight week
that we've had a game huh yeah in the snow,
and it's just like, at some point it's okay, all
right enough already. I can't believe but I'm actually siding

with Skip Bayless.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Yeah, no, I can't believe that.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Kip Bayless said the same exact thing, like, this is
this is not fun, This isn't this isn't what I
tuned in the sea, and I felt like last night
was again two offenses completely muted by the conditions. It's
neat at first, but by the time you're in the
second quarter, you don't get a real judge of who
should win the football game.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Well, next time you and Skip, we'll know that the
weather is like that because it wasn't a surprise.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
We've known for days and it's gonna be like that.
So then don't watch it, and then you won't get mad.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Jason Stewart is our executive producer who has been on
the side of this. I wasn't mad Manzi. I was
just saying, like, okay.

I'm not enjoying it.

Yeah, I just don't feel like it's a real test.
It's it's it's more hokey, it's.

There's But if that was truly how the league felt,
they would prevent those games from happening.

They don't. They clearly don't feel that way.

Yes, there's a lot at stake, Like it takes a
lot to move a game, and it's usually the safety
of the community or the resources that are provided otherwise.
So yeah, yeah, okay, so you're right. So the NFL
is like, all right, if we could get enough Sheriff's
Department security there, everybody, we're fine, We're gonna play it.
That's that's what the NFL thinks. I think differently. I
don't think that they it needs to be played in

fifty degree weather every time, But I would much rather
watch them play in fifty degree weather than see what
they had last night. Jason Stewart, two weeks ago, you
were on the other side of this with the Steelers
and Browns. Did anything change your mind last night? That's right.
Speaker 7 (21:06):
So Doug and I both loved watching that game just
because it's it is a one off, it's an it's
an outlier, it's something. It's that you know, we consume,
among all of us, hundreds of football games every year, right,
and to just watch a game being playing in a
different element is fun after so much football. So I
(21:27):
sided with Moncey on that that this isn't something we
need to say every week, And then last night I
had the same amount of fun. I don't know if
I'll say that in a week if we have another game,
but I know you have some Southern California slander in this,
and I want to give you a chance to air
that before I respond to it.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
I think that that the the love of it, that
that you guys love in a game like this is
because you're from Southern California, your natives of of Southern California.
I don't know if you were born here, Moncey, but
the point that you were, you were you grew up here.
So you're used to watching a snow game and then
going outside and have a b sixty five degrees and

then driving to work and it's sunny in seventy and
there's this is what I grew up in not not
to the level. We didn't have lake effects snow where
I lived, but I lived in a winter climate in
north central Wisconsin. That's where I grew up, So I'm
used to this stuff. This isn't as much of an
anomaly to me. And I think you guys see this

and think, oh, this is awesome, this is cool because
you don't have to deal with it. Every haven't had
to deal with it ever, So it's so foreign to
you that it's neat to see. And I just I
don't think that it's neat at all.

Yes, it looks fictitious to me.

I watched it them like, I cannot believe that people
live like that.

into the playoffs, read hot Herbert's throwing the football everywhere,
and you got to go face Buffalo in these conditions?
Would you want that? Would you want Justin Herbert to
be muted, to have his full arsenal not available because

of the weather conditions because of a of a blizzard
that hit the area. Your seasons on the line. Would
you want that to happen?

Of course not, but also that's the game. Of course not.
Of course I wouldn't want that, but.

You know what, I hope that if the Chargers have
to do that, they're going to fly out early and
they're going to try and play in those conditions at
the park and figure out how to do it. But
he may not be throwing the ball, neither is Josh Allen.
They're going to be passing the ball or they're gonna
be handing off the ball because you don't.

Want to throw it in that situation.

So yes, of course I wouldn't want that, but that's
the sport and you gotta get you gotta get through it.

I actually think the cold weather games that they have
at night are stupid when they like the Chiefs and
Dolphins and the player last where people absolutely frigid. Yes, yeah,
I like that, Like I get it. The Chiefs have
home field advantage, and there's there's you see guys warming

Yeah, some of that, you know, everybody's bundled up. There's
there is something to that. The wind isn't because there

that I always say for people that aren't from a
cold weather area, that go to a cold weather place

and say, how do people live like this? Most people
aren't outside eight hours a day when it's zero degrees,
So even being outside for four straight hours for a
football game is pretty significant. You know, some people may
go snowmobiling and do that stuff, but by and large
are usually just inside during the winter months. So it's
it's still not for everybody, but you make fun of

with it because it's the community that you're within.

I give you all much credit because if it's low thirties,
I'm not going outside.

Maddy James tweets in Bills in San Francisco scored more
points than half the other NFL games. That's because the
defenders are also on ice skates trying to figure out.
In fact, when we've talked about games where bad weather,
the offense actually has more of an advantage because they
know where they're going. The defense actually has to respond.
(27:59):
But there's no way that you can tell me last
night and watching the forty nine Ers and Bills that
they had their full arsenal of their offense. That is
not the point at all about how many points were scored.
It's just that Buffalo handled the conditions way better than
San Francisco did, and San Francisco also lost their star
running back because of it. Yeah, so I played a
part in it. Weather wasn't a factor in Baltimore yesterday.
(28:22):
Justin Tucker was a factor the Ravens kicker missing two
field goals plus an extra point, and the Ravens end
up losing to Philadelphia by the way, Monci in a
game that I was sure and Carrie Rhodes, we were
all together yesterday. I met you and Carrie here on
Red Zone Radio talking about that game. We both were
convinced this is a game for the Ravens to win.
(28:42):
They end up falling twenty four to nineteen. Ravens scored
a late touchdown to make it look closer, but the
Justin Tucker problems continue in Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Yeah, it's really unfortunate to see because he was so
clutch for so long, record holding field goal in a game.
They gave him an extension and they made them the
high paid kicker for a reason deservedly. So he's won
so many games for the Ravens and it just sucks
to see. But there is what feels like a high
level of expectation for these kickers in the league now,
(29:13):
like now you're just expected to be automatic from fifty
yards or more.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
And I know he missed an extra point, which is
that should be automatic, of course, but I feel like.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Just teams are expecting their kickers to do so much
as of Elate, and that's not necessarily I think the
way to go here.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
I think he's a victim of his own success. Yeah,
because of how good he was and I mean considered
by many to be the greatest kicker we've ever seen
in the National Football League. This was John Harbaugh after
the loss of the Eagles talking about his veteran kicker.

We've been working through it. I mean, you work through
with every single player, every single thing. You fight to
try to help guys to be successful, you know, So
we'll do that. I mean, if you're asking me, ever,
we're going to move out from Justin Tucker, I'm not
really planning on doing that right now. I don't think
that'd be wise. But you know, he'll tell you. He'll
be the first to tell you he's got to make
he needs to make make kicks as he can. And
I had to think if you look at Justin Tucker's history,

you'd have to say he's capable of doing that. That's
that's something that he's going to want to do, and
I know we're all going to want him to do.

It if the games on the line, would you have
any trepidation of him making a kick? No, neither.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
I would send him out there.

And I would also say this to John harbass point,
you can't make a change because who are you going
to get that's better than Justin Tucker. Who are you
going to get that you trust more than Justin Tucker
right now?

Who's been in those situations?

Yeah, for absolutely. Plus I'd rather fall with the guy
that has been with us for so long than to
bring someone in off the streets they kicked in the
XFL or the UFL, whatever they're calling it now, and
bring him in and make him be in that situation
where I mean, there's there's a reason like if you
can kick, you likely have a job in the National
(30:54):
Football League right now. And I'm not taking it away
from Justin Tucker just because he's having his worst season
of his long career, which dates back all the way
back to gosh, more than a decade, back to twenty twelve.
You can't make the change now, you can't make the
change in the future. You're kind of stuck with it.
What you have to do is you have to realize
your limitations your expectations. Justin Tucker is not going to

be automatic now from fifty yards he missed the forty
seven and a fifty three yard Or maybe you get
in a little bit closer. You've got Lamar Jackson, you've
got Derek Henry, You've got these weapons. Maybe now you're
going for it more and fourth down situations because you
don't have that advantage. They're not awful, even though he's
been bad this season. It's their advantage of Justin Tucker
has now been negated. So it's maybe pulled them back
(31:38):
a little bit. When you have a great field goal kicker,
it can give you a lot of advantages that other
teams have. The raiments no longer have that advantage. But
there's no reason to get rid of Justin Tucker.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Junger rid of Justin Tucker because I truly don't think
he's broken. I think he's in a slump, and maybe
that was the end of the slump. And in a
couple weeks we're going to be like, oh, he has
not missed a kick since that one game.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
It wouldn't surprise me if we're saying that in a
couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
He's forty two of forty four on extra points this year,
so he's missed two extra points, but missed one last year,
missed one the year before. He goes out the rest
of the way, those numbers are going to be odd.
It's the long ones. It's four of nine from fifty
plus that is last year was just one of five.
That's the sort of spot now where you're like, Okay,
maybe we have to go for it on.

Four thousand, and it's because of him that now we
see kickers going for sixty eight yards. Yes, it's because
of it as he did it, I know, but we're gon,
we're gonna it's going to keep getting pushed because of
how great he has been.

fans of the Buffalo Bills. He was felt so much

where we start today. There's a lot to pinpoint on
what has gone wrong with this San Francisco forty nine ers.
But you know what last night was, Manzi, last night

in a game that I don't even think it's fair
to make this declaration, but last night you just realized
it's not our year, it's our it's not going to
be our year. And it was magnified in the Christian
McCaffrey injury that we expect will likely cost him the
rest of the season. Kyle Shanahan talked about it after
(01:27):
the game. We'll hear from him in a second. But
in terms of what last night was, it wasn't how
they lost, it wasn't who they lost to. It's the
accumulation of everything dating back to the offseason and where
the San Francisco forty nine ers find themselves right now
that this season is not the season they wanted after
(01:48):
losing a super Bowl in overtime.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, since the off season, as you just mentioned, there's
been a lot of adversity that the San Francisco forty
nine ers have had to go through, and last night
it was just really the cheering on top because it
was isn't the first time that maybe you've thought, ooh,
this might not be the Niners year. This wasn't the
first time. It just was the last of it where
it was like, yep, okay, this is not the year
(02:11):
for the forty nine ers, unfortunately, but better now than
losing in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I don't know, try to give them silver lining, you
know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, No, they think that, and they are the San
Francisco forty nine ers fans. They think that if this team,
and I think that they felt that up until last night.
They felt that if this team could sneak into the playoffs,
either as a division winner because the NFC West is
still up for grabs, if they could get in as
a division winner, or if they could get in as
(02:42):
a wild card, that everything would take care of themselves
and they would go back to playing playoff football. And Manzi,
I've never felt that with San Francisco. I've never felt
that the entire season. Name me a team that has
distractions throughout the entire off seat that ends up using
those for good and it pays off during the season.

I don't have one for you.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, I think, doesn't happen. Doesn't happen, Brandon Ayuk, Trent Williams,
they're holdouts. Then we enter the season and Christian McCaffrey's
injury history is now brought into play, and that was
at the forefront of last night. He misses half of
the season and forty nine Ers fans are telling everybody,
wait till McCaffrey gets back, then we are going to
(03:27):
be rolling well. In the meantime, you've lost Brandon Ayuki,
you just signed to that contract. Poor Ricky Piersall ends
up getting shot in the offseason. There's another point that's
to no fault of his own. But when Pearsall has
now shot, Brandon Ayuk shows up the practice before he
ends up blowing out his knee and isn't wearing the
same sort of practice shorts that the other team has.
Kyle Shanahan makes him change into shorts. The reason why
(03:49):
I'm intermingling all these things is at all these points
you thought now's the time. This is when it turns around.
This is the forty nine Ers, oh destroying the Jets
on Week one awesome. The next week they lose to
the Vikings. The next week they lose to the Rams.
Guess what handled the Patriots with these next week low
and lead lose that home to the Cardinals. This is
(04:10):
not the same forty nine Ers team as a year ago.
But week after week, after setback after setback, after controversy
after controversy, they still tried to tell us that this
team was different, that this team would turn it around
because they are defending NFC champions and again lost the
Super Bowl in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs. And
that is the definition of Super Bowl hangover. It's one
(04:33):
of the worst hangovers that we have seen. And last
night put a period to the sentence of the San
Francisco forty nine Ers are set to repeat. They are not.
It is done. It is over, and last night showed up.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
You can't really blame those forty nine Ers fans for
holding on to hope this entire time. I would have too,
especially with the way their division looks. Like you and
I saw all of these problems early on, because that's
not our team. But if that's my team, I'm gonna
hold on to hope based on not just last year,
but the last couple of years and how they've come together.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
But in reality, you see.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Other teams this year who have actually gone through their
own adversity, like the Bills, like the Lions, and they
continue to get past it. The forty nine ers have
not gotten past anything. They just kind of have put
everything to the side every time it happens. And like
the Christian McCaffrey situation, Biggot, we were all bamboozled, every
single one of us, because that didn't just happen.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
They just told us very last minute about it.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
And so again I don't blame rich Davis or coworker
for holding on to hope for that team, but the
hope had been gone. Every week there was less and
less hope, and then yesterday was just.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
The final art hallways are littered with forty nine ers,
not just.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Rich Davis the one I'm thinking of.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, I live next to a forty nine er fan
two houses down that they have they have hopes that
this is the season. You want to know why they
had hopes because they knew that this was it. If
it's not this year, it's over. And that was the
thing with San Francisco, to me, that was so that
was so daunting. And when you look at this season,
(06:17):
it's everything has to be in the season. You want
to know why, because you got to pay brock party.
This is the last season that you don't have to
pay your quarterback and make that decision. At some point,
you're going to have to make a decision on Christian McCaffrey.
And guess what. Christian McCaffrey, before his run in San Francisco,
was thought to be an injury prone running back. His
(06:38):
talent was unquestionable, but it was whether he could stay
on the football field. During his time in San Francisco
up to that point, basically flawless he was on the
football field. But guess what, that reality sets in, And
that was a reality that I don't think people were
willing to look at as a real thing because guess so,
let's just run it back. Let's just run it back.
(06:58):
They'll do it again. Just run it back, get to
the super Bowl again, and this time you'll win it.
It's not that easy. Trent Williams is another year older.
Now you've paid Brandon Nyuk. Now you're wondering what's gonna
happen with Deebo Samuel who's also had his injury history.
Nick Bosa is hurt. Now we find out Fred Warner
has been playing on a fractured ankle or whatever for
(07:18):
the last ten weeks. Like these are all the things
that add up. It's the number of games that you play.
It's the expectations that you have. But Monci, your point
is one hundred percent correct. Forty nine Er fans did
not want to face this reality because this is all
that they had. This is it. There is no next year,
not with hanging brock Perty, not without Christian McCaffrey coming
(07:40):
off of a significant knee injury, let alone him dealing
with his Achilles problems in the past. It is all
over and now you have to figure out a way
to regroup it a completely different way. I think that
there's some frustrations that you see with Kyle Shanahan. I said,
we're going to hear from him. We will. But that's
why the forty nine ers fans last night was it
and I think it's a harsh reality for them today.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
And it was a rough way to go out because
it was unbelievable. They just couldn't get anything going, and
in the snow where it was like, oh, you just
get one quick step over your defender, you're going to
take off, as we saw literally James Cook do every
single time he touched the ball. But nobody on the
forty nine Ers could get anything going. It really was
period our season is done. And to add to everything
(08:23):
you just said, not only do they have all of
these problems going on. Literally we just listed you did
a list of the things that have been happening since
the offseason. You have all these other teams that are
getting better and better like you.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
It's not that we just have to hold on.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
No, what you're holding on to is the past, because
there's other teams that are getting better around you now.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
So you have to get better.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
But now you have all these questions about your contract,
brock party and all that. There's no way you're going
to be able to turn this around to compete in
the next couple of years.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
It doesn't seem that way.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
This was Kyle Shanahan talking about the team's lost last
night to the Buffalo Bills and them holding onto the
football or lack thereof.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
You know, we got back in it with twenty eight
to ten, but then we had two more turnovers after that,
which got none. So playing in those conditions us having three,
them having zero. The way they ran the ball made
it real tough.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Listen, losing in Buffalo is a commonplace for the rest
of the National Football League. Losing in those conditions it happens.
But the Christian McCaffrey injury is the big one to me.
And now there's even more on the shoulders of brock Perty.
And if you were a forty nine Ers fan coming
into the season and you were to say, Okay, you're
going to try to run it back, but here's the deal.
(09:36):
You're not gonna have Christian McCaffrey for a majority of it.
You're gonna lose Brandon Ayuk for most of it. And
guess what during the middle of the season and as
you enter your stretch run, Trent Williams is not going
to be available. Yeah, that and that's exactly where the
forty nine ers are right now. None of those would
be reasons for you to think that the forty nine
ers could run it back again.

And maybe we were all delusional too.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
I'm a outing myself to the fan base that once
Christian McAffrey was back, he was going to just be
back to normal, which is delusional of me to even
think that, right, and especially off of what he just
went through to go and play in.

The snow like that, and he did look good for
what three four drives. It actually did look good for him,
And you were like, okay, because.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
He seemed like he had a slow star understandably so,
but it's like did they they were desperate shove him
back into a situation when they should have eased him
back in.

end up getting into the end zone. They had filled
in capably at times for him, and I felt that
there should have been more of the passing of the
torch that way. But Kyle Shanahan said, full go, We're
going with McCaffrey as our guy, and said why would

there be any limitations? Were given them the four workload,
and now here they are with another significant injury, which
again was a part of his past.

He's gonna ask you, yeah, because you will told them well,
the age, the injury, you know, Kyle, all of these things.

Yeah, to ask you, I just thought. I just felt
that there was no guarantee, not that not that Christian
McCaffrey would look a certain way, but that things would
be the same as they were for the forty nine
ers if Christian McCaffrey came back and he hadn't been
the same back. But then you're like, Okay, is it
because you don't have ayuk Is, because you don't have
Trent Williams? What's the deal? And now the injury history

ends up popping up. But I was not convinced that
Christian McCaffrey was going to be the fix. All here's
forty nine Ers quarterback Brock Pirty on what now sits
ahead of them for the rest of the season at
five and seven.

Every game's got to be must win for us. So
you know, we don't have any room clearly if we
want to make the playoffs and you know, get ahead
and do the thing that we've set out to do
before the season. Man, everyone's got to be a must
win and so that's playing his day and we all

we don't have a lot of room for air right now.

and Lions. Is it a given that they win all

they win two of those three? No?

Maybe at the beginning of the season when we looked
at this as it was was playing out, but I
don't think so. You also end the year at Arizona,
team that beat you earlier in the season. Arizona had
troubles with penalties and getting into the en zone yesterday
against Minnesota, but by all accounts, they probably should have
won the game against Minnesota. Like Arizona, for whatever they are,
they are legit in who they are, six and six,

They're going to give you a dogfight. There's no way
San Francisco runs the table after this, And even if
they did, Manci, even if they did, the point remains this.
When the forty nine ers came into this season. They
weren't competing with the Cardinals, they weren't competing with the Rams,
they weren't competing with the Seahawks. They were competing with
the Eagles, they were competing with the Lions, they were
competing with the Packers the top of the NFC. And
(13:22):
even if somehow miraculously you figure out a way to
maneuver a couple of wins and you get into the playoffs,
you aren't at the level of those other teams. Yep.
And that's the difference to me with San Francisco and
why it's now over.

And now I'm sure teams that are playing the Rams
to finish the season or the Rams, sorry, the forty
nine ers, I'm looking at their division. Any team playing
the forty nine ers is not looking at them with
any sort of fear.

They don't see them as threat.

I know, we just trashed the forty nine ers. We
didn't even talk about the stupid stat that says how
many Pro Bowlers have missed games? Yeah, because you got
old guys who made a lot of Pro Bowls. Now
they're hurt. That's what happens later on in your career.
Guys miss games because guess what, there's a lot of
miles on those tires. You're playing playoff football, you're playing
(15:28):
into February. That stuff catches up with you at some point.
But last night, I don't know if it was even
entirely the forty nine ers fault. This is my problem
with snow games. You get muted football. Even the Buffalo Bills,
who were dominant in the game last night, were not
the Buffalo Bills that we are used to seeing. They
(15:49):
figured out a way to win that game. Home crowd,
they're accustomed to the conditions. All of that played into
the account that Buffalo was able to win. They weren't
perfect last night, and now they were the San Francisco
forty nine ers, and the forty nine ers nor the
Buffalo Bills could do what they really wanted to do
because of the conditions. And this is my point about
(16:10):
snow games and going back to what we had with
the Browns and Steelers on Thursday night. I don't want
to see this every single week. I don't want to
see this in big games. It's why Super Bowls typically
aren't played in cold weather places. They're played indoors where
the climate is controllable. Last night is fun for a minute,
(16:31):
But if you really wanted to watch the forty nine
ers and you really wanted to watch the Bills go
at it, I don't know how that can be better
last night than what we would see with them in
a neutral spot or a place where weather conditions weren't
affecting the actual play on the field.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
What if the Bills were playing another team like the
Steelers where they're used to the snow, and it was
a competitive game to the end, you still wouldn't like it,
Still wouldn't like it, still wouldn't like it.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Well, Dan, I don't know what to tell you.

I don't think running on tiptoes is fun because you're
afraid you might slip because the conditions.

But this isn't an every week occurrence. It isn't.

It isn't, and that's part of football. You play in
whatever condition. You play where the ball lands, you should
know that is a golfer. You play where the ball lands.

Whether it's snowing, raining. The only time you don't play
is if there's lightning.

And if there's if this did happen way more often
than it did, then maybe, but they don't happen as often.

when they called it because of rain and the sixth
inning between the Rais and Phillies, well.

You cann't see anything, and.

It was it was pouring. But the Rays, the Rays
were able to score in the top half of the
sixth inning, and it was because the Phillies couldn't field
the baseball. And so like is that on? Is that?
Like the point is is if you're gonna try to
determine something. Then the Phillies came back and won the
game and won the World series a few nights later.

But the point is is of playing these games. Yeah,
it's neat with the one off, but now this is
the second straight week on a nationally televised game that
we have seen two teams have to go a completely
different route and not play how they would normally play football,
and we're all supposed to love it. I just I
would rather to get a real sense of where the

forty nine ers are. I would love to see how
they matched up against the Buffalo Bills, who got Matt
Mulatto back for the first time in over a year,
and he's on the field, and all of these factors
are playing in Let's get a real judge of where
these teams are. But we can't because they're afraid of
slipping on the twenty six yard line. Because you can
only plow the twenty and the twenty five in the
thirty in the thirty five. It's a mess. It's not

enjoyable football.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Have players so that they don't enjoy it, because I
correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like I
haven't heard players say that they don't like playing like this.
In fact, most of the time, the players look like
they're having a grand time.

If I'm Josh Allen and I'm the story of last night,
I have no idea on how you could enjoy it.
Would want to play in that every single week, but
I would want to throw the football, I know. But
now this is the this is the second straight week
that we've had a game huh yeah in the snow,
and it's just like, at some point it's okay, all
right enough already. I can't believe but I'm actually siding

with Skip Bayless.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Yeah, no, I can't believe that.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Kip Bayless said the same exact thing, like, this is
this is not fun, This isn't this isn't what I
tuned in the sea, and I felt like last night
was again two offenses completely muted by the conditions. It's
neat at first, but by the time you're in the
second quarter, you don't get a real judge of who
should win the football game.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Well, next time you and Skip, we'll know that the
weather is like that because it wasn't a surprise.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
We've known for days and it's gonna be like that.
So then don't watch it, and then you won't get mad.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Jason Stewart is our executive producer who has been on
the side of this. I wasn't mad Manzi. I was
just saying, like, okay.

I'm not enjoying it.

Yeah, I just don't feel like it's a real test.

There's But if that was truly how the league felt,
they would prevent those games from happening.

They don't. They clearly don't feel that way.

Yes, there's a lot at stake, Like it takes a
lot to move a game, and it's usually the safety
of the community or the resources that are provided otherwise.
So yeah, yeah, okay, so you're right. So the NFL
is like, all right, if we could get enough Sheriff's
Department security there, everybody, we're fine, We're gonna play it.
That's that's what the NFL thinks. I think differently. I
don't think that they it needs to be played in

fifty degree weather every time, But I would much rather
watch them play in fifty degree weather than see what
they had last night. Jason Stewart, two weeks ago, you
were on the other side of this with the Steelers
and Browns. Did anything change your mind last night? That's right.

So Doug and I both loved watching that game just
because it's it is a one off, it's an it's
an outlier, it's something. It's that you know, we consume,
among all of us, hundreds of football games every year, right,
and to just watch a game being playing in a
different element is fun after so much football. So I

sided with Moncey on that that this isn't something we
need to say every week, And then last night I
had the same amount of fun. I don't know if
I'll say that in a week if we have another game,
but I know you have some Southern California slander in this,
and I want to give you a chance to air
that before I respond to it.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
I think that that the the love of it, that
that you guys love in a game like this is
because you're from Southern California, your natives of of Southern California.
I don't know if you were born here, Moncey, but
the point that you were, you were you grew up here.
So you're used to watching a snow game and then
going outside and have a b sixty five degrees and

then driving to work and it's sunny in seventy and
there's this is what I grew up in not not
to the level. We didn't have lake effects snow where
I lived, but I lived in a winter climate in
north central Wisconsin. That's where I grew up, So I'm
used to this stuff. This isn't as much of an
anomaly to me. And I think you guys see this

and think, oh, this is awesome, this is cool because
you don't have to deal with it. Every haven't had
to deal with it ever, So it's so foreign to
you that it's neat to see. And I just I
don't think that it's neat at all.

Yes, it looks fictitious to me.

You're right, that's fake, is it?

I watched it them like, I cannot believe that people
live like that.

That could be why we enjoy it so much.

Maybe imagine your team, Manci the Chargers, Okay, Chargers go
into the playoffs, read hot Herbert's throwing the football everywhere,
and you got to go face Buffalo in these conditions?
Would you want that? Would you want Justin Herbert to
be muted, to have his full arsenal not available because

of the weather conditions because of a of a blizzard
that hit the area. Your seasons on the line. Would
you want that to happen?

Of course not, but also that's the game. Of course not.
Of course I wouldn't want that, but.

You know what, I hope that if the Chargers have
to do that, they're going to fly out early and
they're going to try and play in those conditions at
the park and figure out how to do it. But
he may not be throwing the ball, neither is Josh Allen.
They're going to be passing the ball or they're gonna
be handing off the ball because you don't.

Want to throw it in that situation.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
So yes, of course I wouldn't want that, but that's
the sport and you gotta get you gotta get through it.

I actually think the cold weather games that they have
at night are stupid when they like the Chiefs and
Dolphins and the player last where people absolutely frigid. Yes, yeah,
I like that, Like I get it. The Chiefs have
home field advantage, and there's there's you see guys warming
up without shirts on and no, you know, no top

at all, and I'm not gonna wear sleeves like that
proves nothing to me that if if you're doing it
because you're not gonna you're gonna get a better grip
on the football. Completely fine with it, you know, it's
just an issue Joe Burrow Jamar Chase had to go
through of Hey, you're not gonna put this cream on
your arm so you're warm because you're not gonna be
able to catch the football, the whole deal. But I
just don't know how throwing a frozen rock in like

five below zero temperatures basically on an ice skating reek
is great football. I'd rather see the Dolphins and Chiefs
go at it and play in a spot where we
can see both of their strengths.

Can I respond? Yeah, can respond to your southern California
thing before you too. Sorry, I totally agree with you,
and I didn't think about it until you said it.
I think that that's what Maazi and I are feeling,
and maybe Isaac too, maybe Ryan. And the reason why
I'm with you on this is because I have a
similar theory about earthquakes. I always know who isn't from

Southern California when an earthquake happens, and then you go
on Twitter, and then you know this transplant from New
York or Detroit. It's like anyone else feel that And
they're trying to act like they're cool about it, sure,
but they're freaking out. So it's kind of the same
thing for me. You could always kind of tell where
the transplant is during bad weather, or where the transplant

is during an earthquake.

So I'm kind of with you on that. I'm going
to give you you appreciate that. Sorry, I kind of
started the veer, but I do think that there's this
this reality is Manzi called it. Manzi called it fantasy Lancer.
I still did with like a sinus thing for like
a month. So Moncey said, it's not real, And yeah,
to that point, it's not real to you guys, And
I'm sorry. A trip to Big Bear does not cancel

it out, does not say we're good.

I really I'm with I'm when Jason, I agree with
you that that is probably a really big factor as
to why we enjoy it way more than someone who
actually knows what it's like to be there. Now, I
will tell you, like, I can't imagine sitting in a
game like that. I don't know how that's fun for
the fans.

You end up you end up just dealing with it.
I tell the story once it when I went to
a Packer game in high school and I wore my
Larry Johnson Converse because I didn't want to wear boots
because I wanted to be cool, and my feet were
numb at the end of the first quarter.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
I can't imagine.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Because you're on a concrete slab and it's zero degrees outside,
so it trent like you gotta wear boots, you gotta
wear layers, you have to wear socks, and I wanted
to leave. I was an idiot, I was I was stupid.
I was dumb. There is a point where you are
amongst everybody and so you're kind of in it together.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Company.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Yeah, some of that, you know, everybody's bundled up. There's
there is something to that. The wind isn't because there
are so many people and you're in a certain spot,
the wind isn't hitting you as much as you think.
Not to take anything away, but it's it's not like
you're being blasted with cold for whatever. But the thing
that I always say for people that aren't from a
cold weather area, that go to a cold weather place
(27:08):
and say, how do people live like this? Most people
aren't outside eight hours a day when it's zero degrees,
So even being outside for four straight hours for a
football game is pretty significant. You know, some people may
go snowmobiling and do that stuff, but by and large
are usually just inside during the winter months. So it's
it's still not for everybody, but you make fun of
(27:32):
with it because it's the community that you're within.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
I give you all much credit because if it's low thirties,
I'm not going outside.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Maddy James tweets in Bills in San Francisco scored more
points than half the other NFL games. That's because the
defenders are also on ice skates trying to figure out.
In fact, when we've talked about games where bad weather,
the offense actually has more of an advantage because they
know where they're going. The defense actually has to respond.
(27:59):
But there's no way that you can tell me last
night and watching the forty nine Ers and Bills that
they had their full arsenal of their offense. That is
not the point at all about how many points were scored.
It's just that Buffalo handled the conditions way better than
San Francisco did, and San Francisco also lost their star
running back because of it. Yeah, so I played a
part in it. Weather wasn't a factor in Baltimore yesterday.
(28:22):
Justin Tucker was a factor the Ravens kicker missing two
field goals plus an extra point, and the Ravens end
up losing to Philadelphia by the way, Monci in a
game that I was sure and Carrie Rhodes, we were
all together yesterday. I met you and Carrie here on
Red Zone Radio talking about that game. We both were
convinced this is a game for the Ravens to win.
(28:42):
They end up falling twenty four to nineteen. Ravens scored
a late touchdown to make it look closer, but the
Justin Tucker problems continue in Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Yeah, it's really unfortunate to see because he was so
clutch for so long, record holding field goal in a game.
They gave him an extension and they made them the
high paid kicker for a reason deservedly. So he's won
so many games for the Ravens and it just sucks
to see. But there is what feels like a high
level of expectation for these kickers in the league now,
(29:13):
like now you're just expected to be automatic from fifty
yards or more.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
And I know he missed an extra point, which is
that should be automatic, of course, but I feel like.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Just teams are expecting their kickers to do so much
as of Elate, and that's not necessarily I think the
way to go here.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
I think he's a victim of his own success. Yeah,
because of how good he was and I mean considered
by many to be the greatest kicker we've ever seen
in the National Football League. This was John Harbaugh after
the loss of the Eagles talking about his veteran kicker.
Speaker 9 (29:46):
We've been working through it. I mean, you work through
with every single player, every single thing. You fight to
try to help guys to be successful, you know, So
we'll do that. I mean, if you're asking me, ever,
we're going to move out from Justin Tucker, I'm not
really planning on doing that right now. I don't think
that'd be wise. But you know, he'll tell you. He'll
be the first to tell you he's got to make
he needs to make make kicks as he can. And
I had to think if you look at Justin Tucker's history,
(30:07):
you'd have to say he's capable of doing that. That's
that's something that he's going to want to do, and
I know we're all going to want him to do.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
It if the games on the line, would you have
any trepidation of him making a kick? No, neither.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
I would send him out there.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
And I would also say this to John harbass point,
you can't make a change because who are you going
to get that's better than Justin Tucker. Who are you
going to get that you trust more than Justin Tucker
right now?
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Who's been in those situations?
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeah, for absolutely. Plus I'd rather fall with the guy
that has been with us for so long than to
bring someone in off the streets they kicked in the
XFL or the UFL, whatever they're calling it now, and
bring him in and make him be in that situation
where I mean, there's there's a reason like if you
can kick, you likely have a job in the National
(30:54):
Football League right now. And I'm not taking it away
from Justin Tucker just because he's having his worst season
of his long career, which dates back all the way
back to gosh, more than a decade, back to twenty twelve.
You can't make the change now, you can't make the
change in the future. You're kind of stuck with it.
What you have to do is you have to realize
your limitations your expectations. Justin Tucker is not going to
(31:17):
be automatic now from fifty yards he missed the forty
seven and a fifty three yard Or maybe you get
in a little bit closer. You've got Lamar Jackson, you've
got Derek Henry, You've got these weapons. Maybe now you're
going for it more and fourth down situations because you
don't have that advantage. They're not awful, even though he's
been bad this season. It's their advantage of Justin Tucker
has now been negated. So it's maybe pulled them back
(31:38):
a little bit. When you have a great field goal kicker,
it can give you a lot of advantages that other
teams have. The raiments no longer have that advantage. But
there's no reason to get rid of Justin Tucker.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Junger rid of Justin Tucker because I truly don't think
he's broken. I think he's in a slump, and maybe
that was the end of the slump. And in a
couple weeks we're going to be like, oh, he has
not missed a kick since that one game.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
It wouldn't surprise me if we're saying that in a
couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
He's forty two of forty four on extra points this year,
so he's missed two extra points, but missed one last year,
missed one the year before. He goes out the rest
of the way, those numbers are going to be odd.
It's the long ones. It's four of nine from fifty
plus that is last year was just one of five.
That's the sort of spot now where you're like, Okay,
maybe we have to go for it on.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Four thousand, and it's because of him that now we
see kickers going for sixty eight yards. Yes, it's because
of it as he did it, I know, but we're gon,
we're gonna it's going to keep getting pushed because of
how great he has been.

So no, you don't get rid of him.

I love seeing a sixty eight yard field goal attempt,
but it's not going to happen outside in Foxborough in
early December, the Patriots gave it a shot yesterday.

was a heck of a try. It was a good
brim right down the middle. There was hope.

Well, yesterday, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson pulled out his

fourth quarter. Anthony Richardson's recent comeback proclivities big deal, little

I think it's a big deal because it solidifies and
almost verifies the comeback that he had a couple of
weeks ago against the Jets. And it also shows for
those that were so critical of the Colts, let the
record show I was not one of them, Manzi. I'm
fine with them figuring it out. They've got a couple
of years to figure it out with Anthony Richardson, and
guess what, maybe he is starting to figure it out.

Guess what, maybe all of a sudden we're finding out
that Anthony Richardson, at least really good under pressure, had
a rough week in Res twelve against the Lions, but
bounces back and ends up leading his team against the Winlan.
I think it's a really big deal.

Big deal also because Dan he's twenty two. He is
twenty two years old. He is so young. How old?

I'm going to say no deal on this because he's
still a forty year old quarterback and it still shows
that time. He actually moved better yesterday than I think
he did in any game this past season. Still wasn't enough,
had an interception that ended up getting deflected and returned
for a touchdown that completely changed the game. The Jets
were on the verge of driving to go up twenty

eight to seven. On the Seahawks pick six, Leonard Williams
takes it back you know, ninety plus yards, and then
the Seahawks are back in the game. And then the
Jets don't score another point for the rest of the game,
so they're on the verge of being up twenty eight
to seven. They lose twenty six to twenty one. No
deal with Aaron Rodgers. That ship is sailed.
