Speaker 2 (00:18):
Boom one of America.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio coming to you live
from the tyrat dot com studios, tiract dot com. Let
me get there on match election, fast free shipping, free
road as protection and over ten thousand recommend installers tirat
dot com. So the way tire buying should be. You know,

(00:40):
this is the hardest and best thing possible, right, because
when you get to host a show and we do
two hours live and then one hour of a live podcast,
I don't really have time or much time in the
show to talk about Saturday, which was a spectacular college
football Saturday. Right, Oregon kicks a living crap out of Colorado.

(01:04):
You get all the people who were telling us we
were wrong about Colorado, et cetera. Oh you know, oh
do you believe now they get the crap kicked out
of him. And now then it's like, well, you thought
Colorado win an NASH championship firstyear, Like no, nobody said that,
But not a lot of time to talk about that.

(01:25):
Notre Dame has ten players on the field after a
time out, the last two plays the game, and then
you know, Ryan Day, the coach of Ohio State, goes
all WWE and calls out Lou Holtz.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
It was past Lou's bedtime. He's talking about talking about me.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I was just talking in college jam day right, Washington
State Oregon State was the most I was most entertaining game.
Alabama remembers there, Alabama and uh they stomp out Old Miss.
Like there's so much great college football stuff. Do you
guys see the quarterback from Texas Tech. He broke his ankle,

(02:00):
comes back, plays another play, throws the pass and then
like these ankle like rips and half splits in half.
I've never seen a level of toughness. Maybe he's playing
in shock.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I can't.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
I couldn't believe what I saw. But there's so much
incredible stuff from Sunday, and then we got two games tonight.
Won't even talking about baseball or you know, the idea
that the Boston Celtics, could could land, could land? Damian
Lillard like this crazy amount of content. Cowboys get stumped
by the Arizona Cardinals. How many of you in your well,

(02:36):
we're not allowed to call them suicide pools or elimination pools, right.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
How many of you took the Cowboys? And oh yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:42):
By the way, Bart Scott, who got criticized for saying
something bad always follows something good with Dallas, kind it
was right, kinda was right.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
You got the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Going forward on their own twenty four with under two
minutes to go, and the Vikings having no time out
forth in inches and note and then finding a way
to win the game. By the way, Dan Biro give
us an update, it's not a good one on Mike
Williams of the Chargers again, that one doesn't really make
the show. The Patriots go in and beat the Jets,

(03:14):
stop me. Even heard this before, but Zach Wilson's not
particularly good and honestly, if we're real about it, it
doesn't matter if they had Aaron Rodgers. That offensive line
is just not good enough. They can't protect anybody not
probably doesn't make the show. Jacksonville is sort of a mess.
The Bears. We told you it was bad, and it
was even worse. We will get into a little bit

(03:36):
of a tailor script conversation. I thought that whole thing
was amazing. And by the way, if you're Travis Kelson,
you're gonna have Taylor Shrift come to a game, come
to the Bears game. You know we're gonna win that one, right.
But I don't think we can start without talking about
the Miami Dolphins hanging seventy seventy on the Denver Broncos

(04:00):
seventy like it doesn't make I'm as a Charger fan
and watching that debacle Week one, which the Charger should
have won that game, I actually fell out. At least
it's not seventy seventy points. Here's Sean Payton summing up
the loss.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Those next two days, we'll have a lot to look
at and discuss again. It's disappointing. I mean, I'm at
a loss for works because I've never been in I've
been on the other side of some games like that,
and then every once in a while on.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
This league you get your butt up. But this was
more than that.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Here's Sean Payton having an exchange with a reporter.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
We got a look closely what we were doing. And
you know when someone runs the ball up and down
the field like those guys did and throw it up
and down the field, you know it's not acceptable.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
I know that you said it's embarrassing, but this is
kind of been a store game.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
The third time the team was part seventy points over seventy.
What's a question? I mean, what's the question? Feel about it?
I just finished telling you historically embarrassing? Next question?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, I mean, like people are what is he supposed
to say? He said it was embarrassing? No, no, no,
are you really embarrassed?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Like?

Speaker 1 (05:20):
How much more embarrassed can I be? This show, by

had a lot of people in the NFL tell me, like, man,

(05:41):
it's the perfect scheme for Tua. He's not great, but
he's in the perfect scheme. And remember this is Toua's
last year. On his rookie deal and they're just loaded
up with speed. They don't even have Jalen Waddle, so
they get a big lead and then they run the
football and again this is you talk about. Had you
ever ever heard real real question? I guess Dan Byer,

(06:04):
you're the best one to ask this because you have
the I Want Your Flex podcast. People should download it.
Had you ever heard of the kid out of Tech
A and M as a running back? Did you have
him on any of your discussions for fantasy football leading
in this weekend?

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yeah? He has.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
He has been a story actually throughout the start of
the season because you're always looking for depth, You're looking
for guys to emerge, and that running back room was
one that was kind of undecided. Remember the Dolphins were
in the Jonathan Taylor sweepstakes. So yeah, so it has
so Devin a Chan now I believe is how we're
supposed to pronounce.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
It, not a chain a chan.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
But yeah, he has been a part of the conversation
just because of the uncertainty of Moster, who hasn't always
been healthy, and they felt like you kind of needed
to lead running back.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
So I mean, and it's one of those by the way,
so like this, this is a real thing. We had
so much conversation, Hey, so much conversation about running backs
and how much they should make, right, and these guys
being and this is the reason that running backs aren't
well compensated. Because you know a guy who most of us,

(07:15):
most of the world hadn't thought of or heard of. Now,
he was a third round pick, but he's a third
round pick. And last week it was Raheem Moster. He
still had Raheem Moster still had eighty four yard dressing.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
Yeah, and touchdowns too.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Right, So it was incredible and fantas football. And a
Chan ends up with two hundred and three yards rushing
and it's just you want to talk about snowball, But
to me, what it signifies is those guys quit. You
can't get to a point in the game where Miami

(07:48):
was not trying to run up the score. They were
they were like, all right, well you're gonna take away.
I mean, they clearly couldn't stop two up, but they
stopped throwing the ball a ton and they just start
running it trying to let's just get out of here.
And there's no way that happens unless your team quits
and It's really interesting because I think most of us

(08:09):
came in with the perception there's a new sheriff in town.
He's gonna get Russell Wilson, right, and Sean Payton. But
remember Sean turned down the job initially and then circled
back to it.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Now.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
The other part to it is they're also playing against
Vic Fangio is the DEFENSI according to Miami, he was
the head coach last year. So Vic Fangio obviously like
this was his game, This was the one that he
wanted bad. This was a Vic Fangio game. But that's
somebody's got to lose their job today. And if you

(08:41):
thought it was that Sean Payton's team was gonna lay
down in the third week of the season, I didn't.
But holy hell did they get rolled. That never happens
in the NFL. That just doesn't Like. There's some stat,
I don't know what it is, eighty five percent of
the games are decided by a touchdown or less. And
we've had some blowouts this year, right, we had some blowouts.

(09:03):
Yesterday I had the Bears are mess but even the
Bears like seventy throw over three hundred yards rushing that
doesn't happen unless a team quits. And three weeks into
the season, the Arizona Cardinals, who everyone thought were gonna tank,
they've been competitive, They've led, I think in the fourth

(09:25):
quarter all three games. Probably you could make a case
they should be three and oh they're one and two
with a win over the Dallas Cowboys, who were thoroughly
dominant in their first two games of the season, as
opposed to the Denver Broncos, who they haven't done much
of anything, and now they've gotten humiliate. Like if you
would have told me that what's Gannon's first name? I

(09:48):
keep forgetting it. The head coach Sean told me that, huh,
Jonathan Gannon, thank you. You would tell me that Jonathan
Gannon's team is playing and progressing to be better than
Sean Pate this team three weeks in the season, I
would have told you out of your mind.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
But that's what the tape shows us.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
That you only give up three hundred yards rushing when
you're down big and you can't stop Tyreek Hill and
you can't stop you only didn't do that if your
team quits and that defense quit for whatever is going on, endevor,
that is a complete dumpster fire. I don't know if
I've ever seen something like that first week the season.

(10:26):
And this is not to take away from Miami. They're
beautifully coached, beautifully schemed. Two is playing incredible football right,
and an offensive line and like, look, the offensive line
is not great on paper, that's not a great offense line.
But they're playing really, really good football and they're playing
with supreme confidence. But for them to march up and
down the field on you, holy cow. Oh yeah, by

(10:47):
the way, kind of a short week for the Dolphins
as well as they played Sunday night on the road
in New England. That's the most stunning outcome and game
that I can I can potentially I can think of.
I've never seen anything like that, not in the National
Football League. Right, yes, you lost, you lost two fumbles.

(11:10):
Those are big, he threw an interception, those are big
turnover battle but they waved the white flag and then
showed no fight at all. What a what a mess
it is in Denver. And again this can also point
to the you know, we can we can make Sean
Payton a Saint because well he won with the Saints

(11:31):
and for people who don't remember when he took over
the Saints. I think they had one playoff win in
their team's history.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
What they did with the Saints was remarkable, and they
were consistently really really good. But Sean has a tendency
to kind of crap on the defense a little bit,
you know, and when when they weren't making the playoffs
or weren't winning in New Orleans. At the end, he
was it was all about, you know, bounty gate and
how it did lead their defense. If their defense is

(12:01):
just better, but you got to find a way to
get those guys to play for you.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
They wouldn't play for but man.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
And then remember in the preseason, he was not only
critical of Russell Wilson, but critical of the front office
for how they handled what they allowed Russell Wilson to,
including the GM who hired him. I've never seen anything
like that.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Ever.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Seventy to twenty they couldn't stop. I mean, and Miami
could have kicked a field goal to make it seventy
three to set the all time mark and Miami Dan's like, yeah,
that's not really what we're about. I mean, good for him,
super classy move. But they could have done anything they
wanted to the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 7 (12:46):

at the end of your first year. The automatically double
all the cash back you've earned. That's right, everything you've
earned doubled. Dash back for trips, restaurants all doubled.

Seriously those terms.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
The most repeated SoundBite of.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
The weekend comes from Dan Lanning, who's the head coach
of Oregon. Remember he came to Oregon from the University
of Georgia. Here's Dan Lanning in his pregame speech.

Speaker 8 (13:26):
Rooted in substance, not flash, rooted in substance. Today we
talk with our pats. You're right every moment the Cinderella.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Story is over man.

Speaker 8 (13:39):
Right, they're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins. There's
a difference, right, there's a difference.

Speaker 7 (13:45):
This game ain't going to.

Speaker 8 (13:45):
Be playing in Hollywood.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
It's gonna be played on the grass.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Pr It's gonna be playing on the grass.

Speaker 7 (13:50):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Now, now there's there's a lot to it. Okay, first
your I thought it was it was great. Players liked it,
kids responded. That's all that matters. I just I want
people to understand, you don't matter. I don't matter, Skip
baylest Colin Cowhard, Keshawn Johnson don't matter.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Hey, they don't. The only thing that matters is the
kids in that.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Locker room, their parents and potential recruits.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
That's all that actually matters. And maybe some donors out there.
Right and by the way, like this is going to
be an issue for Colorado, and I'm not talking about
the messaging. The reality is that Deon Sanders, who is
a great football player, but his next hit as a
football player will be his first. He was incredible without

(14:44):
hitting anybody. It was just speed and intelligence. And when
he was a care returner or get an interception elusiveness
as well, he was amazing. He adn't hit anybody, and
teams reflect their coaches, right, I would tell you that
the Colorado State, Colorado.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
State smashed them.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yes, they stepped over line with a couple of hits.
Colorado did some stuff as well. Okay, it doesn't make it. Okay,
you know, to hit Travis Hunter late. But part of
it was setting a message of physicality and it's gonna
be really hard.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
It's gonna be something that fair unfair.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Like, and you can sit there and go like nobody
does that calls out?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Yeah they did. Lou Holtz called out Ohio State for
being soft. That's the sport.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
If you're not, if you don't haven't covered or been
around college football, that's fine, just admit it. But the
people who are, like, man, they're only doing this stuff
because the denon stairs.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Like, no, not this how sport works.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
And Colorado is was perceived as it's about flash, Hey
where coming. We're gonna do what Colorado State did, But
we're actually a good football team and better and we're
not gonna have all the penalties of Colorado State had
and we're gonna smash them. That's exactly what they did.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Don't make it about anything other.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Than what matters is the players in that room, their
parents and the parents of and advisors of and next
recruits or people that transfer into work. That's what you're
fighting for. Here's Deon Sanders summing up the game.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
Good old fashion buck kick. There's no excuses for nothing.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Their coaches did a heck of a job repairing their team.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
Obviously we didn't.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
That was good.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
I mean that was a really good old fashioned block kicking.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Now, the only mistake outside of there was some prepperedness stuff,
and like, look, if we're honest, I don't think Colorada
was terribly prepared. What was I'm terribly well prepared last
week against Colorado State? You know they I thought they
made incredible adjustments in the second half and Shador was
great down the stretch, but it wasn't like their level

(16:56):
of pre prepperness.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Remember Carlos State jumped out all over them.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
Would have been up to twenty fourteen if not for a
terrible holding penalty on their center, which was it was
a good call, but it was a dumb play.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
But you look at it and you sit there and
go like, man, I don't.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
And again, I don't put it on Dion because Dion's
doing Dion stuff. He's doing interviews, he's he's all flash
and they do the coaching and he parachutes in and
is the CEO head coach.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
But that's the reality of it.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
The only mistake I could say that Dion himself made
was after the game. He was like, look, you better
get me now because this is the worst will be.
I agree, their level of talent is going to only increase,
but don't make it about you, because what happens is
Dion himself is like, well they're coming at me. They're

(17:45):
making it all about me. Like you're making it all
about you. We are not as good as will eventually be.
This is this is just the beginning. This is just
the beginning. Mike Pritchard joins us. He's the lead NFL
analyst for Vison. I do want to talk about some
of the craziness that happened yesterday in the Nation Football League.

(18:07):
But he's also a former wide receiver and a member
of the national championship team in nineteen ninety in Boulder, Colorado.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Mike, thanks so much for joining us.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
I want to get to NFL in a second, but
let me just get your reaction to what went down
Saturday in Eugene.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Well, you know, Doug, first of all, great to be
with you. I mean, I don't want to say to
be expected, he never thinks that that's going to happen
in the blowout. I've never been a part of that,
to be honest, with you in college. I mean, unfortunately
in pros I got my butt kicked like that a
couple of times. But I think in college the important

(18:46):
part of this is to understand the context of it.
You know, Coach Prime and Dion Sanders, they're trying to
build a program in Colorado, rebuild a program, whereas Oregon
has been established for a while, and they certainly have
aspirations of winning a national championship themselves. So two totally
different wavelengths, if you will, or certainly situations in which

(19:11):
one team has established themselves and ready and it's certainly
deep enough to contend for a championship, and the other
one has to do what it has to do to
get to be relevant again. And for me, that's where
I'm at with Coach Pine in Colorado, I'm so enthusiastic
about the start, but I'm also a realistic about how
much more work they have to do.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
What's the likelihood of them bouncing back this weekend against
SC I mean, that place would be wild, but I
just and s he wasn't great this past weekend, But
I don't know, it's three they played three Power five
teams already. The Colorad State game was super physical. I
think a lot of it is attrition as much as anything.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
Yeah, it really is, you know. And the thing about
college football is the depth of it. When we had
it rolling, I mean, we would go from salin sc
to Darren Hagen to Cordell Stewart, right, and you know,
you see similar programs like that for a while. Alabama
went to Matt Jones and all those quarterbacks and everything

(20:16):
that they've went through, certainly, and you know Georgia, So
when you're on top, you just replace athletes with other athletes.
And the same thing with basketball. I mean we all
know this, right, And you know, Colorado's at a point
where they don't have depth. Like if something were to
happen to schedu Or, I don't know what they have
behind him, and I don't know if Colorado even knows

(20:36):
what they have behind them. So s C is similar
in the fashion of Oregon. Really they have a Heismotrophy
candidate or certainly a Heismotrophy winner winner, and there's certainly
a Heismotrophy candidate again, but they have so much depth,
and some of those guys transferred from Colorado to ATC.
Mike Boone, the Athletic Directory's He's a Boulder guy, So

(21:00):
this game means a lot. It means a lot to Boulder,
it means a lot to what's going on with the program.
It's another showcase for some of the players on CU
and we'll see if they bounce back. I think coach
Pin's going to try to do everything he can and
his coaching staff to get the kids to stay invested
and then not lose hope and to still believe in themselves,
and we'll see if they'll be more competitive this time.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Mike Pritchard's our guests. He's lead NFL analyst for Vison.
Of course, you can see the work digitally of course,
or listen to them on satellite radio as well. He's
a member of Colorado's national championship team. He's an NFL
wide receiver as well. I would make the case, and
I'm going to fully admit I didn't watch.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
I'm a Charger guy.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
I was watching the end of that game, so there
was a time which I clicked off the Dolphins game.
But you don't give up three hundred yards when you're
down that big unless the defense on some levels quits.
But again, you played in the league what's your assessment
of what happened with the Broncos yesterday.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
Oh, I think it's a continuation of what's been happening
really for that football team, for that franchise, really no direction, Doug.
I think once Peyton Manning left and once the Broncos
won that last Super Bowl, and okay, what's the next step?
Gary Kubiak leaves one year later, Pat Boland no longer

(22:23):
the owner. It is a lost cause right now in Denver.
They have lost their way, and it starts because of
mister b Pat Bolan. I mean, when you have an
owner like that, so influential and so gracious for what
he wanted to do to help you be competitive, and
then all of a sudden you have that departure. It's

(22:44):
like the Broncos. They have zero identity right now. And
that's sad. It really is a sad state of affairs.
And so that was indicative of what I saw. Just
a team quitting, just a team lost, no hope, a
team that really isn't a team at this point. A
lot of great players collection are great players, but that's

(23:05):
true for a lot of bad situations in professional sports.
You got a collection of great players, but you don't
have a team, and so until that happens, the Broncos
are not going to fix what ails him. And it's unfortunate. Yeah,
they have seventy put on you. I mentioned getting my
butt kicked before, and that was to the Washington Redskins

(23:26):
back in the day, back in nineteen ninety one, perhaps
the best Super Bowl team ever. They just toyed with us,
you know, and I was with the Falcons at the time.
But they had so much firepower and well coached in
a stable organization, a pillow organization. Really. The Broncos are
no longer that, and so they have a ton of
work to do to kind of restore who they want

(23:47):
to be.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Well, the good news is they get the Bears this weekend,
or maybe the Bears good news is they get the
Broncos this weekend. In the instead of the immovable object
versus the irresistible force, you got the moveable object against
the resistible for us, is there any fixing Justin Fields?

Speaker 5 (24:04):
Well, Well that's up to Justin Fields. I mean Justin
Fields wants to play quarterback a certain way and unfortunately
for him, you can't play that way in the National
Football League and win. I think he's an incredible athlete,
and he can run and he can make spectacular plays
with his legs. But you got to win from the pocket,
and if you don't, then you don't. You can't help

(24:25):
your offense. You can't you cannot even build a foundation
for a career. And that's where I think he's at
right now. I don't know if he realizes it. A
lot of times young players feel like, let me go
somewhere else and let me showcase what I can do
somewhere else, because obviously it's not working here. I think
that's what the point we're at with Justin Fields. He's

(24:45):
had enough starts. He's been in a situation long enough
to a lot of people to make the opinion or
the evaluation that he's a franchise quarterback. He's a starting
quarterback barely, but he's not a franchise quarterback. And I
don't know if Justin Fields has it within himself to
understand what he needs to do to turn into a

(25:06):
professional quarterback in the National Football League.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
I tend to agree with you, it's that thing has
gone bad and gone bad in an absolute hurry. Mirke
Pritchard joins the Leed NFL analyst at Vson, former NFL
wide receiver, a member of Colorado's National football team, Mass
National Championshi football team back in nineteen ninety joints, and
the Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
How we got two tonight? Let's start with Tampa.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
They beat Minnesota and a close when they get two wins,
now Philadelphia comes to town. Eagles have not looked as
dominant or proficient offensively as they did last year, but
there's still two to zero and the defense and the
seven new starters kind of coming along against the Tampa team.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
It's kind of surprising. Of course.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Todd Bowles excellent defensive coach, and the defense looks on
point so far. What do you expectations tonight? That the
line is five for Tampa at home? Five point dogs.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Yeah, this one's a tough one to bet for me.
I mean, I would rather lay it with Philly, but
five points kind of gets difficult until I see consistency
from the Eagles. You mentioned it. I think the Eagles
need to build on what they've established or or evolve
and continue to get better. We have two consistent teams
right now in the National Football League, one being San Francisco,

(26:20):
the other one being Miami. There's some teams that are
trying to build on what they've established and what they started,
setting the tone, if you will. But I think the
Eagles are in that category where they need to establish
themselves as a consistent team, and if we get that tonight,
they should cover this easily. I think Tampa is scrappy,
They're opportunistic. They taken advantage of turnovers one Minnesota and

(26:43):
then certainly Chicago and then the mishaps down the stretch
from justin fields. So they're okay that way. But I
don't know if they're a great team. I think they're
scrappy and they just take advantage of certain situations and
that's been the case and so they benefit it that way. Now,
anything and everything can happen, we know that in the

(27:04):
National Football League. But if the Eagles take care of
business and they build on how good they are right
now and how good they can be or build towards that,
I think it'll be an easy game for the Eagles tonight.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Okay, the nightcap gives us The LA Rams are surprising
at one on one considering what their roster look like
and the lack of health for their star wide receiver
taking on the Bengals, and we don't know if Joe
Burrow is going to play tonight. The Bengals are three
point favorites this line open at six and a half,
and of course Burrow being questionable all of a sudden

(27:38):
leads it to three three point favorites at home against
the Rams.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
What do you think, Well, this was difficult because anytime
your quarterback, your franchise quarterback, is a game time decision,
I would be careful of that as a better one.
He didn't practice all week. He probably was in the
training room trying to get healthy enough to see if
he can give it a go as a game time decision.
And then you look at the backup courtquarter back and oh,
my goodness, they are in dire straits right there, right,

(28:05):
you know, And so they had to sign with AJ
mcchern just to make sure that they had another quarterback
on the roster in case Burrow can't go. I don't
know how prepared they are. But at the same time,
the Rams, you know, they're good enough, they're scrappy enough,
but they don't have all the horses. They don't have

(28:25):
Cooper cut. But they don't have. I mean, they have
an incredible rookie wide receiver right now, but they don't
have the consistency that I'm looking for in a team
that certainly is trying to knock off Cincinnati. These two
teams are mirror images of each other, though, so some
advantages to the Rams trying to prepare for that Bengals offense.

(28:45):
I think they'll be well prepared defensively for that matchup,
but can they score enough points offensively against that Bengals defense. Obviously,
the Bengals defense, you know they're going to go in
with the mindset that we got to win this game
because Burrow might not go. And there's enough quality players,
really good players on that Bengals defense to kind of
make things difficult for the Rams. But it's a tough

(29:05):
call without really knowing and understanding where the Bengals are
at with their quarterback situations. Burrows struggled, the Bengals have
struggled offensively, and now he's a game time decision that
just doesn't add up positive for me.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
No, it does not.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Mike Pritchard, lead NFL analyst for Vson, that's vs. I
and my great stuff man really appreciate you having joining

Big This is Game Time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Hey, Dan Byer, what's the game today, Doug?

Speaker 7 (30:21):
The game today is big deal, little deal, no deal?

Speaker 4 (30:25):
All right, big deal, little deal.

Speaker 6 (30:27):
Or no deal that there's still a chance Joe Burrow
starts tonight for the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
That's a big deal. You know. It's a big deal
on several levels.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
Yeah, there are.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Let's just start with with Burrow in terms of his health, right,
he hasn't played as well, he has been limited, and
there's if you remember when. Again, I would never wish
this on anybody, and I don't know the direct correlation. Okay,
but there was a calf injury to Kevin Durant before
the doors.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Killing said don't put it out in the universe, Doug.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
But again I'm speaking what others have said, like there
was a calf injury to Aaron Rodgers, then he pops
his achilles tendont right. So I just I don't want
anything bad to happen to Joe Burrow. And I do
think the spin with Mike Brown when they were stretching,
what was that Thursday or Friday, I'm guessing that the

(31:20):
owner of the Bengals is like, look, dude, we love you,
but if you're hurt, you're hurt, and don't play. And
Burrow an think he wants to play because he's trying
to save the season. There's a lot to it, but
the last thing you want is some career changing injury.
And then of course you have the They don't have
much behind him at all. You know, they promoted a
guy from the practice squad who have never heard of

(31:41):
as their third quarterback. They got Jake Browning from you
dub as their backup quarterback, like I don't know, and
that dramatically changes the game.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
For the Rams.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
And then for the Rams, who we thought were kind
of tanking, Like what if they go in there and
get a win, You're like, wait, what, They're two and
one now and Cooper Cup eventually is gonna come back,
we would think from the hamstring changes them completely. So
there's a lot that goes to Burrough playing and not playing.

Speaker 6 (32:05):
Big deal, little deal or no deal. That the Minnesota
Vikings blame their home crowd for making too much noise
when they were on offense during that final possession against
that's a bstal.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
That's a bstal. You know.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
First of all, no one knows about dealing with crowd
noises in home games better than the Chargers, right, So,
as a Charger fan, I feel no sympathy for you.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
Right at home yesterday?

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Yeah, Charges, Like, wait, are they cheering for us or
against us? Like, just go with it, guys, But you
have to have a plan for these things. And they're
coached by a guy who's a former NFL quarterback and
a formable quarterback coach and a former offensive coordinator. And
then you have a thirty five year old quarterback who
you know, he's a grown man and a grown up,
and they they didn't lose because of that. They lost

(32:52):
because of decision making. Thirty two seconds to go, you
get tackled on if you have first down, spike the ball,
huddle up up, call two plays, let's get after it.
There's so many things they could have done. They screwed
that up with their clock management. That has nothing to
do with the crowd.

Speaker 6 (33:07):
Doug as it was happening. Just to give you a
different perspective, I was saying, Brandon Staley should call time
out just in case the Vikings would score on their
next play. They then could get the ball back and
maybe try to kick a field goal. It ended up
working out perfectly for the Chargers. But yeah, there was
just a lot going on in that last thirty seconds.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
So yeah, but that that chaos. I agree with you
on calling time out. Remember, I mean you remember this
obviously with the Seahawks. I mean Bill Belichick didn't call
timeouts when when Russell Wilson threw that interception. Many people,
myself included, thought, well, let the Seahawks score. So Tom
Brady gets the football back and they didn't. So sometimes, Yeah,

(33:50):
I'm with you with Brandon Staley. They had all they had,
all their timeouts, they they gave away any opportunity to
get the football back, but it did cause them to
rush it, you know, and there was chaos, and it's
really studying. It's not Kirk cousins first year with that coach,
in that system, in that building. Definitely not his first

(34:12):
year playing. And I don't put all the blame on him.
I put someone on the coaching staff, but you get
they got to have a better operation that thirty two seconds.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
It's really easy.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Spike the football, catch your breath, you know, and execute
and you'll be fine. They couldn't stop justin Jefferson all
day anyway.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Big deal, little deal or no deal.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
That the Jets reportedly turned down inquiries from freezer quarterback
Carson Wentz and retired quarterback Matt Ryan, that from Jay Glazer.

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Ryan, by the ways, denied the report.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Yeah, I saw a Ryan to not the report. I
think it's a big deal because you have to they
got to have a plan be here and maybe k
trading for Kirk Cousins as their plan B. But what
if the asking price is too great? You know what
are the asking price to great? Is there a world
where they make a trade for now? It would happen
because the offensive coordineer. You look at what happened with Denver, right,

(35:03):
you kind of pick a right lee. But there has
to be some sort of plan B in case Zach
Wilson isn't good enough he's not good enough.

Speaker 6 (35:10):
Well that that leads into this dog big deal, little
deal or no deal that Fireman Ed says, this is the.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Deal Zach needs to be released or traded. All right,
that's just the way it is.

Speaker 9 (35:22):
That's listen enough, coach Salah, Joe Douglas.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
Enough, you did what you could. It's not working out.

Speaker 9 (35:31):
Okay, you owe it to the locker room to do
the right thing and go with Tim Boyle and get
yourself a veteran in here.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
Okay.

Speaker 9 (35:39):
The fan base was out of their minds today. That
stadium was rocket.

Speaker 6 (35:46):
That's Fireman Ed Doug big deal, little deal or no
deal on the words from the Jets biggest fan.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
No deal.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Sorry, dude, I wish I could maybe in New York.
It's a little deal, but it's a no deal. You know,
you're not gonna release him. The offensive lines of disaster.
This is a disaster. He's not good and he's seeing ghosts,
but the offensive line is bad.

Speaker 6 (36:11):
I think he's my favorite fan. I went to a
Jets game ten twelve years ago, and I just couldn't
wait to see Fireman Ed try to fire up the crowd.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
You know, I'm with you, Miles.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
I actually do think the Jets have really good fans
because they've been really bad and their fans have still
They may boo, but they're still there where I just
get tired of people say, well, we got the best fans ever, Like, okay,
when you lose your stadiums empty.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Marlin's fan's no longer a Marlins fan.

Speaker 6 (36:38):
And there was some fall out at least a while
back when Jeter was a part of the organization. But yeah,
I love Fireman Ed for some reason. Big deal, little
deal of no deal, Doug, that Iowa had the ball
for less than fifteen minutes in their thirty one nothering
lost to Penn State.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
That one's as thorough an ass whooping as I've seen.
That's a big deal. I mean, you know, and you
have the coaches on his an offensive coordinator, he has
a deal in his contract, how many games I gotta win,
how many points I got to score? And you know
he kind of went in with his chest all puffed
out and then all the airs out of the balloon.
Part of it is Penn State is really really good

(37:14):
and in the traditions in college football that don't let
you down.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
A white out in.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
State college is amazing. But yeah, that was that was
a big deal.

Speaker 6 (37:23):
Big deal, little deal and no deal that Iowa had
just four first downs and they're thirty one nothing lost
to Penn State.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Equally big deal. Can you imagine m four first downs?
Can you imagine that four first downs?

Speaker 6 (37:34):
Big deal, little deal of no deal at Iowa completed
just six passes in the thirty one nothing lost to
pend stand It's.

Speaker 1 (37:39):
Actually not that big a deal. I can't believe it was.
It was that many.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
It felt like far fewer.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
We could go on and on. That's it. That's game time,
game sorry, Iowa.

Speaker 7 (37:51):
He's game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio rolls on
