How you doing? We got a suspension to talk about
(00:38):
in the NFL, which everybody's going crazy. We got last
night's Monday Night football game, which was literally the entire
Jameis Winston experience right like you had impassioned pregame speech,
uh weird looking helmet, some unbelievable plays that were good,
(00:59):
some unbelievably bad plays. You had ridiculous numbers in terms
of of yardage gained by both teams with Jamis Quinston
throwing the football. And then you had a loss, and
then you had an impassioned speech complete with a prayer
to the Almighty above all, led by Jamis Quinston. That
was and that was exhausting to watch alone, let alone
(01:23):
for Jamis himself. Like today you had to be a
day was like, we'll get to that as well. Good
afternoon to you wherever you're listening. This is the Doug
Gottlieb Show Live on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
We got the whole crew kind of back together. Before
I get to the suspension, I need to make a
statement that's really really important. Actually twofold one is in
(01:48):
regards to something on social media, which I find to
be hilariously nonsensical whatever. But here's the one that I
really want to I know you guys talked yesterday Dan, Jase,
Stuu and Sammy about the flag planting over the weekend.
And this is why I hate taking time off because
I am a day late and a dollar short. But
(02:11):
I have gotten a chance, okay, to spend a little
bit more time in my own head trying to put
together words, and you know what, I'm in the same place,
which is really really simple. If you win the game,
you get to raise or plant your flag, and if
you don't like it, you know what you have to do.
(02:32):
You have to win the game, and if not, you
gotta wait till next year, play that same game, and
then do it now. Again, this does not mean that
throwing water bottles like the kid did at Michigan, or
waving a flag in somebody's face in an incendiary way
is what we're talking about. And I understand that this
is not a civil war, revolutionary war, any sort of
(02:54):
war battlefield like I do understand, it's just football. But
just like you get to some places, you get like
an axe, right Paul Bunyan's axe, some places you get
isn't there a boot? None? Somebody win a boot. There
are lots of different trophies and awards, but historically throughout
(03:15):
time to the victors go the spoils. And we're not
talking about Viking days where they you know, and pillaged.
We're not talking to that level. We're simply talking about
a flag. So Ohio State, I was there last Monday.
They had all the m's crossed out. This was the year.
(03:37):
Don't even mention that team from the North and Michigan,
who's on a down year coming off a national championship
after losing their head coach, their quarterback, the most players
to the NFL Draft they've ever had. They come in
and beat the Buckeyes in the shoe to the victors
go the spoils. If you don't like it, win the game.
(03:58):
And if you were so mad, why didn't you do
the right things to win the game? In the game,
all that energy could have been hyper focused on actually
winning the football game. So I have no problem with
flag planting and to idiots on social media like I'll
wait to see the flag planting it like, yeah, dude,
lost at home on Saturday. It was it was awful.
(04:20):
I've I've been questioning all sorts of every piece of
my judgment ever since down twenty one cut it to one,
had the ball in the air, chance to win the game,
didn't win. All of it is on me. That's how
it goes in coaching. But if you win the game,
and if you want to plant the flag or raise
(04:41):
the flag for that night like it's yours, you won
the game. That's my feelings that I'm Doug Gottlieb. That's
my Ted talk. That's my Ted talk. All right, let's
get to let's get to the story of the day
the topic djure. By the way, we're brought casts and
live from the tyrack dot com studios. Tyrack dot com
(05:03):
will help you with an unmatched election, fast free shipping,
free road as a protection number ten thousand recommended sallars
tyrack dot COM's way tire buying should be. Aziz Al
Shayer is a star defensive player for the Houston Texans.
I think by now you've seen the hit where he
lowers the boom on Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence suffers a concussion,
(05:27):
all the Jaguars want to fight. Then people are throwing
things at him. Then he wants to fight everybody. He
gets taken out the field, he gets suspended for three games.
Here's Nick Cassario the Texans GM earlier today.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
And if for the league to make some of the
commentary that he made about lack of sportsmanship, lack of coachability,
lack of paying attention to the rules, quite frankly, it's embarrassing. Look,
it is what it is. I think the big thing
from our standpoint, and all teams want there's just some
level of consistency. And we've talked to the league quite Frankly,
we don't have a good explanation. Dimiko talked to him yesterday.
(06:00):
So I mean, it is what it is. I'm sure
Azz will go through whatever process he's going to go through,
and then we'll deal with it accordingly. But I think
what we take umbrage is is just the picture that's
been painted about disease, his intentions, who he is as
a person. I mean, it's quite frankly, it's bull and
it's unfair to the individual. It's unfair of the organization.
I mean, we love everything about as he's all shy here.
(06:22):
What he means is this team, what he brings to
this to this team.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
I have no doubt he probably brings a bit of toughness,
bit of nastiness and that stuff you need to win
football games. I will disagree with Themiko Ryans. He said
this yesterday in regards to the hit.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
A lot of the quarterbacks in this day and age,
they try to take advantage.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Of the rule where they slide late.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
And they try to get an extra yard and now
you're a defender. A lot of oners is on the
defender right, whether it's on the sideline or where it's
on the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
You don't know what a guy is thinking.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
You don't know if a guy is standing up and
he's continuing to run, you don't know. And then you
get a late slide and you're you know, you hit
the guy Unfotunately that Trevor got hurt. We want to
help Trevor is okay, But it's also if we're sliding,
we have to get down. If we're getting out of bounds,
we get out of bounds. And that rule is there
to protect the quarterbacks, and we want our quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
To be safe in the league.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
So we just have to be safe and we're sliding,
make sure we're keeping our heads down.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
So listen, I agree with with with the idea of
quarterbacks sliding late, but I if you, I mean Demko
Ryans was a hell of a player and he's a
really good coach, and you got to protect your guys, right,
we gotta peture guys. I mean, who had the over under?
(07:39):
Who had the right number? On my first technical foul,
which was against Evansville Going back to like a week
and a half ago, was that buyer did Bayer called
I think we.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
All had the over because you're you said zero, So
anything more than zero was the over right no.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
But you guys took your own individual bets, didn't you. No, Okay,
I got a technical foul protecting my play. I've probably
named Ben tweety. He took an obvious charge. We were
getting no calls against sevens, so we weren't playing particularly well.
But it's like, dude, like, what are we doing here?
Kid took an obvious charge? And all I said was
that's a charge. But because I stepped a foot onto
(08:15):
the basketball floor, and college basketball officials are overreactive right
now to people stepping on the floor because last year
Shakas Smart and I think Sean Miller were like basically
in the playing in like five on five they could
if they had a jersey on, they would have gotten
the ball and got to hoop. That anybody who steps
on the floor runs the risk of being teed up.
They told us that preseason, so like, look, I wasn't
(08:36):
happy about it, but the point of it is, I
understand defending your player, but you also have to be
reasonable about it. And you guys tell me if I'm wrong,
that's not how you're supposed to hit somebody, regardless of
whether or not Trevor Lawrence went down late. He did slightly.
It is a bang bang play. You don't understand, Like
(08:57):
people don't understand. Like I'm in hot pursuit of Trevor
Lawrence who's running and then all of a sudden, I
go to tackle him and he goes to slide and
this happens. The issue is that's not how you hit somebody.
What's the kid from Iowa, Sam who tackled Derrick Henry
this past weekend, Cooper Cooper Dejen Like that is out
(09:20):
of a textbook how you're supposed to tackle. And I'm
I understand protecting your guy. I understand going hey, this
is my guy, But I mean, like, look, Demiko, you
got to give us a little monochrom of reality where
you just said, hey, I get it. His form was off.
He shouldn't have led with his helmet or launched himself,
(09:41):
but it was a late slide, and so can we
give him a little bit of.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
A pass.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
If we're honest with ourselves. I don't think the fact
that he's Muslim, with a Muslim name, I'm sure it
makes him an easy target for fans, especially in this
day and age. I didn't say it's fair. I didn't
say it's right, and he has come out and said
social media, it's been awful the way the things that
people said in the stadium, things that people have said since,
and that's a sad reflection of who we've decided to be.
(10:10):
Going back to last month, that's who we've decided to be.
I am not that person. I just I feel like
this is overboard. It's uh, what was it that Marvin
Levy was one's quotas saying in NFL films, you remember,
you're an over officious jerk. I think that that's what
the NFL is being like. Look, I get it, you
(10:32):
want to protect quarterbacks. The concussion is scary, and maybe
it's this is the right punishment, but this punishment hasn't
been levied to other guys that have had the exact
same crime. That's what Nick Cassario is talking about. I
actually think that three games is probably about right. You
know what, we'll do it it'll get guys to stop
launching at sliding quarterbacks. The issue is how come there
(10:56):
hasn't been another three game suspension previous to this for
the exact same crime or penalty which has been perpetrated
by a hundred different NFL players. So I'm not defending Okay,
I'm not defending the player who commits the crime, but
(11:16):
I am defending the idea of wait, wait, we're going
to three games now, Like it's basically triple jeopardy. You
get penalized, okay, you get ejected, that's kind of double jeopardy.
Then you get suspended for three games, like whoa, whoa?
And if that's what we're doing, okay, but why haven't
(11:38):
we done it before? Why haven't we done it before?
I would love to know that. I would love to
know people's answer for that one. Uh, I'll chay Year
had an altercation with Tom Brady two years ago, right,
two years ago, and in which he had appeared to
(12:01):
hit Tom Brady in the throat. Earlier this year, he
had a late hit on Kayleb Williams, sparking a sideline
scuffle where all Share punched Orshawn Johnson as a running
back for the Bears. Later that week, he was fine
for a late hit on Titans running back Tony Pollard.
So like, look, here's a guy who here's a guy
(12:25):
who's played through and possibly passed the whistle. Here's John Runyon.
Of course, was hell of a player in his own right.
NFL President Football Operations issued the suspension. He said this.
During your game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on December first,
with four to twenty remaining in the second quarter, you
were involved in the play that the league considers unacceptable
in a serious violation of the playing rules. Video shows
you striking the head and neck area of Trevor Lawrence.
(12:47):
You led with your forearm and helmet and delivered a
powerful blow to the head and neck of your opponent
when you had had time and space to avoid such contact.
After the illegal hit, you proceeded to gain agent a brawl,
which you escalated when pulled when you pulled an opponent
down to the ground by the face mask. After the
referee announced that you were disqualified for the hit and
(13:10):
your unsportsman like acts, you removed your helmet and engaged
with your opponent while walking down and across the field,
which started another physical confrontation near the end zone. So
that's John Rynan and John Ryan is like look and
just so we're aware all those other things that he
is alleged to have or not alleged he did. Do
you know the Tom Brady deal or the late hit
(13:31):
earlier this year not brought up in the reason for punishment.
They're punishing him because of the hit of the forearm
in the helmet and then because of his reaction when
I'll help broke loose, yes, stand by. You know.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
I'm just going to say this because I know people
are up in arms over the three games, But what's
the old saying? The price today is not yesterday's price.
And I feel that the visual of Trevor Lawrence laying
on the field like he was, the skirmish happening right
next to Trevor Lawrence as he's laying there, and then
(14:04):
everything that you mentioned, especially after what we've seen most recently,
specifically with Tua in what has going on with a
tongue of Iloa, it is a look that people don't
want to see in the NFL anymore. And it is
a that the picture of the concussed player body reacting
in a certain way because of the trauma, and I
(14:26):
think that is also where the NFL is going. I
felt that that hit may not have been the most
vicious hit that we've seen in the NFL and throughout
its history, but it sure seems to weigh differently in
today's NFL than it ever did before. And I think
that's why the NFL is trying to at least be
as heavy as they can be with their punishments and
(14:48):
still get away with it.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
I don't think there's any no part of what you
said is false in any way. That's complete truths, complete truths.
It It just it feels a little out of nowhere
what it would be the probably the only thing like that.
That's my only thing when I heard three games was like,
that's a long one, you know, and what will happen
(15:10):
is you'll have people go, yeah, well, uh I was
a running back struck his fiance. Why am I forgetting
Ray Rice? You know? Ray Rice is only suspended for
two games. Yeah. Again, it's exactly what you're talking about,
Like you can't look through the lens of today into yesterday.
(15:31):
People need to stop doing the price of bread and
the price of gas like it's twenty twenty four, you know,
like things cost more money. Everything is going to cost more.
It's the rate of inflation, not the fact that inflation.
You know, we can't go to the hey. When I
was a kid, it was ten cents to call somebody
a payphone. We don't use payphones anymore. It was twenty
(15:54):
five cents for a video game. We play video games
at home, and if you go to a video game
place now you got to go four orders or maybe
even two. So yes, I completely agree. What would you say?
The expression is the price of yesterday is.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
Not today's price? Is not yesterday's price.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
You just had to work in some prices right reference
in shore.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
What movie boys without looking?
Speaker 6 (16:27):
This is it? Don't get scared now.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
You got it? Jase? Do you know the movie? Correct?
Speaker 6 (16:34):
That's a negative.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Really, buyer doesn't know the movie. He's not a movie guy.
He might know this one, because I believe he's seen
this movie. That's home alone. I haven't seen it.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
I made my family disappear like they brought it back
with the Dick Sporting Goods commercial.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
Within.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
We have seen it a long long time ago.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
This is Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports. Let's welcome in
John Metlkoff three and outs the podcast in the Volume
Podcast Network. You know how when you google people's names,
then you have the other little things you go like,
who is Jameis Winston? Wasn't last night like Jameis Winston.
That's basically if you did a Wikipedia on him, outside
(17:21):
of some of the off the field stuff at FSU, like,
that's Jameis Winston.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Right.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
You got the pregame speech where it makes you like,
I love this guy. You got some unbelievable throws, you
got the pick sixes, you have crazy yardage for both
ways when he completes the ball, and then you have
a loss where a bunch of points are scored by
both teams, and then afterwards you get a postgame explanation
(17:46):
which somehow brings God in, makes you really like him,
makes you kind of smile and chuckle, and then makes
you think, yeah, this is it is who he is.
It's never changing.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
Yeah, I means one of the truly great roller coaster
players I think we've ever seen in any sport, regardless
of you know, he threw, he throws six touchdowns, obviously
two to the Broncos one what Benito made a great play.
But the irony of the everyone nitpicking Jamis's kick sixes,
which he's always thrown a lot of and just picks
(18:19):
in general. Is even with those, he is such a
dramatic upgrade over the two hundred and thirty million dollar player,
Like they are light ears better. They showed the stats
early in the game of him compared to Watson in
terms of yardage, yards per play, points per game. It's
in a completely different stratus here, Like they couldn't function
(18:40):
on offense. And you throw Jamison, which we all nitpicked
because he throws picks and it's it looks like a
football player. I mean that that's the crazy part is
I was thinking about this last night. I said on
the podcast. Obviously Jamis has issues, right, that's why it's
the backup. But Deshaun Watson go down as one of
(19:01):
the single greatest business liabilities in the history of this
country based on just one human.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Right.
Speaker 7 (19:08):
Some businesses have bought things for more money than two
hundred and thirty million dollars. But I'm just talking about
one human in all of sports, especially when you factor
in the caps and the implications and then his poor play. Uh,
because we've seen guys signed huge contracts right in baseball
and basketball that got hurt, which listen, that's freakish things.
(19:28):
This guy just when he played, he was objectively awful.
And Jamis even when he throws picks, is like, like
they're just not three and nine. If Jamis had been
their starter all year, there might not be a playoff team,
but they are. They're just in the mix, right.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yeah? Can I throw us something out at you here
real quick that we haven't yet talked about during the show,
But but Jay stew and I talked about before the show.
I don't know how much many people make this, understand this,
or make this parallel, and maybe I'm wrong. Okay. There
(20:06):
are two divisions in the NFL one the NFC one
the AFC, which are going to have three teams in
the playoffs, right, the NFC North in the AFC West. Fair, Yeah, okay,
And what's interesting about it, Okay, what's interesting about it
is that I don't know if everybody has checked out
who they cross over against, right, Like, the NFC North
(20:29):
crosses over against the NFC West and the AFC South.
The AFC West crosses over against the AFC North and
the NFC South. And the point is that do I
think those teams are good? Yeah? Like, let's not let's
not act like their Broncos are good. Right, they're they're
better than they were last year. But really, I mean,
(20:52):
look at their schedule and and and again. That's I
think the bigger reason that the AFC West is going
to have three teams in Chargers weren't supposed to be
great this year. They're just solid, consistent, well coached, right.
I think it's more who they've played than how good
they are.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
I would agree, I think the Bills are dramatically better
than everybody. If they played their best game and if
they get home field advantage, should win the AFC. But
I thought that about Baltimore Ravens last year, who were
dramatically better than obviously they are this year. And the
thing about football, it's like you get in, right, the
(21:32):
Chargers and the Broncos. I know the Broncos defense, I
don't know if they're just not trying or their boys
with Judy so they wanted to see them get some
staff has been really good when you have a good defense, right,
this is not a seven game series. What if you
got a seven to seven game after half? Right in
a playoff game? So I hear you, like in a vacuum,
(21:53):
if you just like put their players against other players
on teams that have like they're not you know, the Church.
Should they win eleven twelve games? Probably not, that's Kim harbought.
But like their coaching staff is so good in their
defense is so good. I mean, they got guys. I
had to google them mid games getting picked sixes against
Kirk Cousin, Like, who's this guy that fits round pick?
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Say, okay, listen, let me let me read for you.
The Broncos wins this year? You ready, Buccaneers, Jets, Raiders, Saints, Panthers, Falcons, Raiders, Browns. Right,
and look, there is something too beating the bad teams,
Don't get me wrong. That's when you're a well coach.
Speaker 7 (22:34):
Here's the thing, Like, if they're the seventh seed, which
it looks like they're going to be, unless the Ravens
truly fall apart, and let's say the Chiefs end up
losing a couple of games down the stretch, which it
feels like it's gonna catch up to them, and it's
the two to seven, the Broncos playing the Chiefs, like
we've already seen that play a pretty close game. It's
not My point is not inconceivable. I don't think the
bronc is like good relative to like playoff teams in
(22:55):
my life, but they definitely can win a game. Same
thing with the Chargers, Like if it's Chargers Steelers, Like
we saw them go toe to toe until Herbert got hurt.
So I just think that you know, when you have
a good defense. Yeah, obviously, if the Broncos are gonna
play like they did last night on defense, they're wanted
done for sure. But if their defense is played like
most of the season, you could just hang in a game. Now,
(23:18):
I like to I think we would both agree. Because
the Chargers, their quarterback can make more play. He's just
a better player than bow knicks. The bow actually looked
good last night. Like the Browns, I know, they're three
to nine. That's I mean, that's gotta be the best
three and nine team I've ever seen, just in terms
of talent on the field, right. Uh. Like, So it's like,
I give the Broncos credit for that.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Win again, but again you're like, the Broncos defense is good.
Why is the Broncos defense good? Who have they played? Right?
The Buccaneers win was a huge win, I believe, Trying
to think which did. The Buccaneers have both or lost
both their wide receivers in that game. The Jets are
not good and Aaron Rodgers name name wise the only
(24:00):
thing good about him at quarterback. The Raiders have two
quarterbacks which aren't any good. Right. The Saints are an
abject disaster offensive of their coaches fired. Panthers have Bryce Young,
you know, Bryce, who's not any good. I mean when
as the whole like their defense is good. No, it's
not to give forty one points to the Ravens.
Speaker 7 (24:18):
Well, and the six divisional games they play. You know,
the Chiefs, the Chargers, and the Raiders aren't exactly offensive juggernauts,
so it benefits them. Yeah, I think are you in agreement? Like,
if the Bills play well, this should be their year.
Like last year was the Ravens year. They didn't they
didn't capitalize. Make sure the Bills is setting up, like
I looked at the schedule. If they like banned, I
(24:41):
think Patriots, Jeff Patriots, So they should go three and
all those last fer games the next two games. They
can just split one of these next two and go
four and one. I don't think you think it's seeable.
The Chiefs lose a couple games out of stretch.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
I don't think it's inconceivable either, s Doug Gottlieb show
here on Fox Sports Radio. I went to the Thanksgiving
game with the Dolphins and the Packers, and it's the
second game. Granted there's a season in between. You remember
the the Herbert Tua game where Accho was barking about
(25:14):
Tua being the better quarterback a couple of years ago
into that game. And then I went to the Packers
game against the Dolphins and Joe that was probably Jordan
Love's best game just in terms of not throwing the
dumb pick. And then he still made some beautiful throws
as well.
Speaker 7 (25:30):
Yeah, but like his arm was piercing that wind and snow.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Yes, yes, and Tua. It's it's two parts to Tua.
The arm's done any good. And he can't move. I
mean he can't move at all at all. Like if
he comes off that first read, he's got to reload
and he sees somebody, there's just no ability to duck
or dodge or move or slidestep out of the way.
(25:57):
Like Tom Brady looked the immobile, but he could move
a little bit to the side here or there, and
he got rid of it so quick that dude can't
can't move. And he's got a little bit of the
Aaron Rodgers thing where you don't want to get hit.
So now like he if he reloads, he just kind
of gets rid of it and throws at god knows where.
Like I get that you finally got a guy who's
(26:18):
solid and consistent. But like in the AFC, you're gonna
play on the road in the snow, in the win,
in the rain and the wind, and he can't do it.
Speaker 7 (26:27):
Yeah, he's all a little with Purdy against Josh Allen.
I mean, there are certain like party just benefit a
lot from playing in controlled environments, not having to play
in the cold. Like certain guys are just not going
to sell in the cold and they got no shot.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
I mean, okay, so let me that's actually the perfect
segue here. Okay, So I don't know if you think
the Dolphins made a mistake or didn't make a mistake whatever,
but it does feel like, aren't the Niners if they
give him top dollar, which is kind of a report
today right that Mike Silver, They're like all in on
brock Purty still like aren't we going to see the
same thing. They're not be able to have the team
(27:01):
around him that they have around him. Now we've seen
that with all of these teams that pay their quarterback,
except somehow the Eagles do it.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
I don't know how, but the Eagles build is really good. Teams,
their rosters good.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I get it. But like they're paying their quarterback a
ton of money and they still have a really good,
pretty good roster right whereas everybody else's roster has massive flaws. Okay,
so are the Niners really going to do? Think you're
really going to pay him in sixty million dollars variety?
Speaker 7 (27:27):
I could not. I mean, my thing is, when you
watch Josh Allen, I could not pay a max quarterback
if they don't have top level trades. And you could
argue he's one of the most trade filled quarterbacks in
the NFL history. But there are five guys that're like
Lamar Mahomes, Herbert, Josh and Joe Burrow who has the
(27:48):
worst traits of the boat. But it's just a great player.
Like I'm not paying forty fifty dollars for a player
that's not on their tier. Like where are they going
to go? Whatever happened to like, let's just play this out.
You know, for a long time, the NFL just would
like franchise the guy when they didn't know. I think
they did it with the Ravens, but the Ravens didn't
even know with Lamar and d is gonna give Purty
(28:09):
after this year? That's insane. Now, why can't we have
second tier contracts? Like, Okay, Brock, we'll give you the
you know, two years later, Daniel Jones Steel, I'd be
okay with that. But like, I'm not doing what happened
with Trevor Lawrence because Brock Perty's gonna go. I will
look at my stats, look at what I've accomplished in
(28:30):
the playoffs and big games and relatives too. I want
way more than that. If I was agent, That's what
I would say. And that's just to me, is a
hard no. Like it's a hard no. I mean, it's
already kind of floating out there. Would I mean, Sam
Darnold is a free agent, Kyle already liked him. I mean, well,
look what he's doing this year on a good team.
He's gonna have I don't know, thirty plus touchdowns, they're
(28:51):
gonna win thirteen plus games. You sure say he won't
go back to the well there like purty. You put
it in that snow environment and it look JV versus
Varsity versus Josh Allen. It's like, well, he's not Josh Allen.
I've always said that. It's true. But if I'm gonna
pay him the same contract, then we got a problem.
I can't. That's just awful business.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
I'm with you.
Speaker 7 (29:15):
I'd be a little if they just keep losing like
they easily the Niners. I mean, you've got Trent Williams
lost a baby, so I would imagine he's already injured.
He'll be out. Boss banged up. McCaffrey's now gone for
the season. They're backup running back who's good Mason. It
also heard he's out. I think I are gonna lose
this week to the Bears. You know, the Bears are
(29:36):
a disaster in terms of they can't figure out how
to win the game, but they've actually been playing like
they've been in these games.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
The Niners.
Speaker 7 (29:42):
I think the last two weeks against the Backers and
the Bills lost to combine like seventy three to twenty.
They got house. They're running out of players, so I
don't think the Niners are gonna win that much moving forward,
and if you don't, you're just gonna you're gonna have
a six win season and give your quarterback to him.
Are you the Jags? Part of the the sea's been
running winning because it's well run. Now you're gonna do
(30:03):
something reckless. I don't know. I don't see it.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
I don't I don't either. I don't either. But we'll
keep watching. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Look forward
to your next podcast, man, and we'll talk to you really,
really soon. That's John Mitlecoff. Three and Out is the podcast,
of course. He's a world renowned NFL analyst. Coming up
on The Doug Gottlieb Show and we're live at the
(30:29):
Tirak dot com studios. You need to hear what teams
I think are the top three teams in the NFL
right now and in what order I want to hear
it this.
Speaker 6 (30:38):
Next Be sure to catch the live edition of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
It's Doug Gotlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Sam.
Did we work together last year on Christmas Time? I'm
trying to remember.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
No, we did not.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
Okay, I didn't move to this show until March of
this year.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
I want to say, so you're not familiar with my
favorite Christmas song, you.
Speaker 5 (31:09):
Should send me a list.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
I would be happy for one song. I like other songs.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
What's the song? Tell me?
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Not King Cole Christmas song.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
Okay, we'll definitely get in the rotation.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
I think it's a great one. It should be in
the rotation, right, I mean there's others, and some of
you've actually played today. This is the Doug Gottlieb Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. As we said last week,
Merry Christmas to you, and it's really weird. Christmas and
Thanksgiving holidays are a lot like Dan's favorite game show,
(31:41):
Price is right, Like, it seems really out of place
to say Happy Thanksgiving. But Thanksgiving is closer in proximity
than Christmas is. Once we get past Thanksgiving, we're on
to Christmas. We are Bill Belichick, despite the fact that
Christmas is still I don't even know what day today is.
This is third, tomorrow's December fourth. Right now, we're on
(32:03):
the Cincinnati We're on the Christmas run, the Christmas Let's
get to a game.
Speaker 6 (32:13):
This is game time. Sig on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
Okay, there, Dan Byer, how are you, man, Doug.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
I'm doing well. The game today is rank them all, right, Doug,
as we do every week of the NFL season, Rank
your top three teams in the NFL right now.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Hmmm. I'm gonna stick with my guns and keep the
Bills at one. Bills it one, and then I'm gonna
I'm gonna toggle something here. I'm gonna put the I'm
gonna put the Eagles at two. And everybody knows, like,
(32:57):
I hate can't stand the Eagles, can't like remember the
Costangia can't stand JA can't stand them, mostly because they're
fans and their coach and they're fans in their coach.
And I'm not a huge Yalen Hurts guy either, Like
kind of think there's a little artificiality in some of
(33:18):
that presentation. But I hate the Eagles. Yeah, but they're good, man.
They run the football, he can throw it enough, they
got weapons. Defense is good enough. Like I'll put the
Lions third. Lions have some obvious flaws when you should
at least be getting sent to overtime with the Bears,
and they've been and Look, they've had some big injuries,
(33:40):
especially on the defensive side of the ball. I'm gonna
put the Lions at three. So three Lions, two Eagles,
won Bills And yes I did not include the Chiefs,
but we all know the Chiefs don't have to be
the best team and they still find ways to win games.
Are what else yet? Oh?
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Yeah, Doug ranked the NFL teams that you'd like to
see get the number one pick. There are eight teams
or two or three wins so far on the season.
But yeah, who would you like to see get the
number one pick?
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Hm? Does it have to Can I relate to the
fact that it's in Green Bay this year?
Speaker 5 (34:14):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (34:14):
I mean, because it is in Green Bay. If anybody
wants to rent my house, you can uh anyway? Uh?
Teams I like this In the one back, I would
like the Patriots. I'll put the Patriots at three just
because it's like the complete it's it's the sign of
the end of the of the dinosas I get it,
really starting over, Patriots at three. I'd like the Giants
(34:40):
at two. Jim right by the way, yes, uh. And
what's funny about that was when they drafted it wasn't
that drafting Saquon Barkley was a bad year, bad pick,
But drafting Saquon Barkley instead of a quarterback at that pick,
I think ultimately is what has put them in this predicament.
And how many times I remember at that point time
where like the Giants aren't ever gonna they never dropped
(35:02):
in the top five. Well, here we are again, and
number one's got me the Raiders one. As you guys know,
Tom Telsco good friend of mine. I don't think I'll
screw it up two. Like you know, the it's the
raid and then you get lambeau Field Raid is just
the nostalgia to it. I'll go Raiders one, all right.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
Doug on the heels of this past weekend ranked the
best rivalries in college football.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Okey number to best rivalries, Rivalries rivalries. I'm trying not
to have recency bias. I know my two and one
are my number three, number three.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
How about you give us one and two and.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Then, okay, one into one is Army Navy? Uh two
is uh Michigan o hostate three I'm gonna go Alabama
Auburn album omer all right.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Finally, Doug, considering your tweets earlier today, Right, the best
parts of December controversial tweet.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Yeah, we'll talk about the two. It's so funny, like
people take so serious, like, oh, you're you're a Division
one coach. You're not gonna be working December, Like, yeah,
I got two jobs, dude, Relax. Best parts of December.
I mean, Christmas Eve with your family is pretty amazing.
That's one. I mean Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, whatever. I
(36:38):
guess Christmas Eve will be mine this year. So Christmas
Eve with with my kids, I like it. I don't
like going out, but I like New Year's Eve. I
like the I like the refreshments, Christmas shopping, Christmas shopping.
Doug ot Leap show here on Fox Sports Radio Rock
(37:00):
Party is who he said he was. Are they gonna
let them off the hook.
