man right, like allegations of mistreatment of female staffers one

(00:44):
day and then you think, okay, that doesn't feel like
it's gonna end. Well, then there's a hey, I'm gonna
get better, I'm gonna get better sort of a social
media post from the head coach, only to then be like, yeah, no,
you're you're you're done here. So what happens to Stanford
who looks like they're gonna have an interim coach for

(01:06):
a year. More on that upcoming a reminder, Tractors Supply

(01:48):
we'll get to Juju Watkins tearing her acl upcoming. What
it means for again a lot like soccer sport of
the future women's basketball. People thought it's supported the now,
what really happen happens or on that to come, But
I thought this was interesting. JJ McCarthy's been discussed a
lot here last offseason when he was drafted in the

(02:09):
first round and this offseason as the Vikings have allowed
Sam Darnold to walk out the door and go to
Seattle and play for the Seahawks. JJ McCarthy was on
upon Adams. He was asked if he was told he
was the number one starter by the Vikings. Yet here
was his answer.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
We as a fan base or even media found out, like,
you're the guy, the the guy recently, when.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Did you know? When did they tell you or when
was that message to you?

Speaker 4 (02:36):
They haven't told men. I'm happy they didn't because I
try to earn it every single day and I never
want that to be given to me and it's such
a privilege and opportunity to give that give me that chance,
and I'm just going to make the most of it
every single day.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, so they haven't, but they have. You know they haven't,
but they have. Right when you select when you have
a guy who's a when you have a guy who's
a having a career year, and yet you allow him
to walk out the door for again, I think reasonable
money in Seattle. And also you're telling Aaron Rodgers, a

(03:13):
first ballot future Hall of Famer, we're good at quarterback.
You can say they haven't told you, but they've told
you any of us who are married have been married
in relationships will say, We'll know that. Women say this
all the time. You know, actions, actions speak louder than words, right,
actions speak louder than words, And what the Vikings have

(03:35):
shown is actions and it's look, it has the chance
to be kind of an amazing story in regards to
one coach's ability to slide in any sort of quarterback
kind of and it's interesting it's the Shanahan system. But
previous to Kyle Shanahan being a head coach and having

(03:57):
so much success with different quarterbacks in different spots, Atlanta
would went when they went to a Super Bowl. Obviously,
Washington as as offensive coordinator for his dad, you know,
coaching with his dad, and then you fast forward to
since he's been in San Francisco, multiple quarterbacks and uh

(04:17):
career seasons. What's maybe most interesting is when his dad
was the head coach of the Broncos. I believe it
was seven straight thousand yard seasons from the running back,
and I think every season it was a different guy.
That's that, right, Dan Byron, I'm almost I'm almost positive
it was seven straight thousand yard rushing seasons and I

(04:38):
don't remember if it wasn't seven different guys?

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Is this with with Denver?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah? Yeah, I mean if you look at all you
have to do is go to stats reference right on
with it with the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yeah, it was like Mike Anderson Orlanda's Gary.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Can you name? Oh this is this is a fun game.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
I don't know. Maybe no, because I don't know, and
I don't even know if the number is seven, but
it was. I think your point was made that it
was just a different guy every year.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah it was. It was Terrell Davis or Landis Gary.
What was Anderson's? It was Mike Mike Anderson. Wasn't Mike
Anderson like in the military or something.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
It was in the Marines.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
There you go, and then Terrell Davis again, and then
Clinton Portis and later Ruben Drones as well, Rubin Drones
as well. But it was like it was a cycle
of running backs when you're like really again and that
was I don't remember how many straight years it was.

(05:42):
I just remember it was a different running back every year.
The point of it is that when you can plug
and play just about any running back and get a
thousand yards, or you can get just about any quarterback,
and throw for four or five thousand yards, a'd be
more than competent. Like at some point in time, yes,
you have to find the right quarterback, but you've also

(06:02):
found the right coach. And we've had so many different
analysts on here, and I think, you know, Jordan Palmer
is somebody who's joined us. I know he's been on
the Herd bunch as well. And Jordan's big thing is like,
you have to have confidence. Like so much of the

(06:24):
position is about confidence. And you think about Sam Darnold
when he was with the Jets and the you know,
remember he got hot micd I'm seeing ghosts to playing
as well as he played last year? It was yeah,
did they put him in position to see and he
played well? Sure, But a lot of it was about
his confidence. When you have a team that just won
as many games as the Vikings won and they let

(06:45):
that quarterback walk out the door so that an unproven
quarterback can come in and start that. If that doesn't
give you confidence, I don't know what does. There's a
lot of things it takes to make it in sports,
and by my estimation, the number one thing it takes
is confidence. Now, the confidence has to come from other
people and the work, but also the fit. They find

(07:07):
a they find a guy that fits the style, and
they give you confidence because they clear space by getting
rid of anybody who's any sort of competition. JJ McCarthy
can say, I haven't been told bubkiss about being a
starter and whether or not that was guaranteed. And yet
all you got to do is look around the locker
room go, oh, this is my job, and everybody's everybody
simply knows it. Everybody knows it, and I'm sure that's

(07:35):
you know, that's part of why the Steelers haven't pushed
on Aaron Rodgers. It feels like that deal should have
been done a week ago, but it's not yet, and
we guess we're all annoyed. We're all like, dude, what
are we doing? If you want to play football, just
go and play for the Pittsburgh Series. They need a quarterback,
you need a place to play. That's a team you

(07:56):
can be competitive at the top of the AFC, And like,
what do we actually thinking about here? What are we
actually thinking about? And Aaron Rodgers is not He doesn't
lack confidence or swagger or maybe even to some people, arrogance.
But you also have to maintain you're not going to

(08:17):
go sign some other quarterback until he decides, because Aaron
doesn't want to look over his shoulder. He doesn't want
to He's not going to be a placeholder for some
young quarterback to come and develop and eventually hand over
the rains. If you're going to hire me as your quarterback,
I'm your quarterback, period stop. Which is a reasonable ask.
But it's also reasonable for a team to go like, hey,
you kind of gotta let us know, you know what,

(08:37):
are get off the pot. It's the Doug Gotlieb Show
here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Hey, it's Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio. Sam is
our resident women's basketball an us AN expert. I'm partially
I'm actually only partially kidding there, just because Sam literally
watches a ton of women's basketball, right, A good a
good amount of women's basketball. Uh, Sam, what are your

(09:16):
thoughts on the Juju Watkins injury? Juju Watkins, by the way,
consider the number one prospect in the women's sport, even
if you know, she's only a sophomore in college, not
coming out this year, but widely regarded as like the
next great women's basketball player out there, and she tore
her ACL last night as USC advanced to the sweet

(09:37):
sixteen the NCAA Tournament. What's what's your What's what was
your immediate reaction, as our resident WNBA analyst.

Speaker 6 (09:45):
Well, when you saw the injury, the way she reacted,
the way she grabbed her knee, You're like, this probably
isn't like a strain or a sprain. It is probably something.
And then later that night, around ten thirty, ten forty five,
it was confirmed that it was an ACL tear. I mean,
it sucks. She's obviously one of the front running stars
of of women's college basketball. They have a great team

(10:06):
around here, so I think they could still do some damage.
But you know, I appreciate her all overall, all around
skill set. And then that's too bad. It's gonna be
missing from the rest of the tournament because I really
do think that, you know, they were the only team
to sweep U C l A. I think they could
have with Juju, won the national championship or at least
got into the final four, which would have been better
than last year where they went to Lee eight for

(10:27):
the first time in decades. So it's uh, they got
Kiki area Fen from saying her name, right, but they
and they really good players there too. But it's just
it's it's stinks. It's stinks. There's no other way to
dice it.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Well, you know, I remember this article that I read.
I thought it was in Sports Illustrated and I so
when I saw this happen last night, I was frankly,
I was laying in bed, right, regular was laying in bed.

(11:00):
But when I did, I went and I googled, and
there's several different articles on it. But here's the basics
of it. Women, female athletes are more likely to tear
their acls than men. Did you guys know that?

Speaker 5 (11:16):
Yes, Dan send me I Dan sent me some literature.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Yeah no, there's actual literature.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yeah. So a female to male is three point five
times greater in terms of likelhood of tearing an ACL
as a woman as opposed to man two point eight
times greater in soccer. And these are ACL injuries over
the last ten years. And this is from the American
Orthopedic Society of sports medicine. So this is not This

(11:47):
is not me like opinion or anything anti woman, right,
we understand this. This is not whether or not I
love women's basketball, I hate women's basketball. I like women's basketball,
I dislike when's basketball. I'm neutral towards wins basketball whatever.
This is just the data. You can't argue with data,
and the easiest way to explain it is like one,

(12:10):
it says three point five times more likely to tear
your ACL as a woman, and the basic reason is okay,
so the ACL runs through the middle of your knee,
and women's hips are whiter than men's, so if you
stand up you can understand that it doesn't mean women
are like knock meed. But if where the ACL starts,

(12:34):
say Erica right, and runs down your leg, women's hips
make it at an angle, so it's like angled in
there naturally genetically, so women are genetically predisposed to be
more likely to tear their ACL in women's basketball. Now,
as we've seen previously with Paige Becker's for example, she

(12:57):
tore her ACL and she's returned, and she may not
be as spectacular a talent as she was previously, Like
a a generational sort of star. But she's very very
very very good and so just to sight marginal and
because it's not a sport. It is a sport where
there is a level of athleticism that some women have

(13:20):
that others do not. But it's not so it's not
like David Thompson when he fell downstairs and completely shreded
his knees and was never the same. Right, the athletic
component isn't the same in terms of how dynamic you
are pre and post ACL as it used to be
and in the women's game, right, Like, you're not talking

(13:42):
about athleticism being such a determining factor, especially how how
you jump. Do you need to be athletic? Yes, but
the dynamic movement and the angle of the hips and
how it goes into the knee makes it such that
you're more likely to tear it. But what it does

(14:02):
is it makes it harder for us to follow those careers.
Sometimes it can make it easier, right, because when you
tear your ACL, you're usually going to stay in school longer,
and the more you stay in school, the more you
build the the following. Caitlin Clark didn't really hit until
her junior year. Then her senior year. She was at
the end of her junior year in the Final four,
and all of her senior year. She was an absolute superstar.

(14:27):
But we'd also be kidding ourselves if we didn't say
it's hard to follow the women's game when the next
great star isn't playing. When the one time of year
when people are watching Sam, I know you'll still watch
byer you watch any of the women's tournament today, I.

Speaker 5 (14:45):
Mean just when I was in the studio. I haven't
at home.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Last year, did you watch?

Speaker 5 (14:51):
I think I watched when IOWA played LSU, and then
the championship game when they and IOWA played South Carolina. Yeah,
and the Yukon final four games. So I was last
three games.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
I watched, Jason Stewart, you hate everything? Did you hate
women's basketball last year and not watch it?

Speaker 7 (15:14):
No? No, no, I loved it. I love Kitlyn Clark.
I couldn't get enough Kitlyn Clark. I watched many of
her WNBA games. I'd never seen a WNBA game in
twenty five years, and I watched many last summer. The
disappointing thing for me on this one and again, I'm
completely removing the compassion part of this right is that

(15:35):
this was supposed to be the barometer, the year by
year measurement we were supposed to as Juju led USC
into the final four, we were supposed to get a
picture year by year of how much more or less
popular the sport is compared to last year. And you know,
it's been trending in the wrong direction as far as
I'm concerned. The eye test is that college basketball, women's

(15:57):
college basketball has not been as in interesting or exciting
this year, and it certainly hasn't been as covered as well.
So I wanted her to play this out so we
could have a direct comparison. And now that's not going
to happen.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Okay, So like, look, I think that it's a real thing.
It's a real thing where we can admit that it's
hard on a year year to year basis. It is
now good thing is Page Becker's is still playing, Yukon

(16:34):
is still playing. She is still star, Yukon is still
a name. It's not this. No one can convince me
it's it's going to be the same. There's ever gonna
be some sort of continuous hype. And I'm just I'm
fascinated by how many people will watch I.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Would I would also say this that I don't think
that these issues are foreign to the men's game either. Maybe,
you know, the men's game is more popular, but when
we look at the women's game, and I felt like
in the days of Yukon and Tennessee, it was more
about Pat Summit and Gino Oriema and now I still
think that you have notable coaches in the women's game

(17:12):
of Don Staley and Kim Malky and Gino is still there.
But you know, you need those you need those star players.
And I do think that in the men's game, where
we kind of sometimes say the same thing, just maybe
at a level that's more popular on the mainstream.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:34):
I mean, like if Cooper Flag doesn't play that angle
injury is worse. I think that there's a there's a
similar conversation as well going on now in the men's game,
we've lost a lot of the legendary coaches because they've
ended up moving on. But I don't think it's I
don't think it's too different. I just think they're at
different levels.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah, I mean, they're definitely at different levels. The problem
is that last year, because the men's final four was
on TB or TNT, and because the women were on
ABC and ESPN and the Kaitlyn Clark effect, it made
some people think because the women's game technically out rated
the men's game last year, right, it made some people

(18:18):
believe they were on the same playing field and they
are not. If anything, it will show us just the
absolute difference, you know, the absolute difference in the two
in the two sports. And I agree with you, like

(18:39):
if you're reasonable, and I think, Jason, you said this
last year. It's like, look, you're not saying that women's
basketball should never be watched. You're like, let's just not
play first and second round on neutral sites, Let's not
play the final four in a dome. Let's not overdo it.
Let's not act like the sport is way more popular
than it is. Let's take the popularity that Caitlyn Clark
has brought to the sport and can continue to grow it,

(19:01):
but with baby steps, not with giant leaps. Is that fair,
Jay Stu?

Speaker 7 (19:05):
I mean, I want to say you said it. I
co signed on all that, but that certainly wasn't my
thoughts precisely. Middal coffs on, Hold, all.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Right, let's go to John Middlekaffoo joins us here on
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, Johnny,
let's let's go to Aaron Rodgers. We still do not
have word that he's a Pittsburgh Steeler. At what point
did the Steelers go, Okay, dude, we got to move on.

Speaker 8 (19:32):
Well, I mean I think they, I think they would
love to do that. The problem is that they don't
really have many options. So, you know, sometimes leverage works
for you, and for a lot of times, you know,
teams when they're negotiating with players or cutting players and
doing that stuff, they have it. In this situation, I mean,
what are their other options? They clearly don't want Russell

(19:53):
Wilson back. I don't care what I read. I mean,
give me a break. They wanted justin fields they've benched
before Russell Wilson, and I just think they're kind of desperate.
It looks like, you know, the two high end quarterbacks
you know, from a prospect standpoint in this draft is
going to be long gone. So I think all Stein's
points to this eventually getting done, you know, they're not

(20:15):
like OTA's or none of that stuff has like started.
So it really wouldn't matter. I mean, it is like,
you know, a crazy headline like Aaron Rodgers holding out,
but if he ultimately signs for the next couple of weeks,
it doesn't actually logistically change anything football life.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
S Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. How
good a fit is it?

Speaker 8 (20:40):
Well, I mean it's a good fit for them. They
need a quarterback. I really think the question mark is
is the guy we saw last year? Now the team
they started losing, it kind of unraveled, but he just
didn't want to get hit. And we saw that last
year with Brady when they went I think they went
eight to nine. Brady's last year just did not want

(21:00):
to get hit. Now, Aaron couldn't move even at this age,
much better than Tom ever could. But like when you
don't want to get hit, It's why I thought it
was laughable when the Rams are like, we're just gonna
well trade Stafford go with Rogers like guys in twenty
twenty five, that's a pretty big downgrade. So I don't know.
I mean, I think it's an improvement for them. I mean,

(21:21):
based on their quarterback situation, but look at their division.
I mean, the Browns probably gonna have Miles Garrett and
Abdul Carter chasing you. Obviously, the Bengals and the Ravens
offenses can score so many points. So I don't know.
I mean, I think the Pittsburgh Steelers, you know, obviously,
if they don't get them in their quarterback situations, disaster,

(21:42):
they'd be screwed. But even if they get them, I
don't think much changes.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
It's a Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay,
it appears that cam Ward is going to be the
pick of the Tennessee Titans. Is that a smart move
from Tennessee?

Speaker 8 (21:59):
Yeah, I mean, pretty desperate like the Steelers. He definitely,
you know, from a prospect standpoint, really good athlete, big
arm and has improved over the course of his career
and now when you look at him, I mean the
transfer portal these last couple of years has really benefited.
I mean last year he was viewed as like a

(22:21):
fringe second day prospect, and you know, Burrow Baker, some
of these guys they come back or they you know,
they decided to play another year. Now it's easier when
you're getting millions of dollars, but it was the right
move and now, I mean I heard weeks ago he
was going to be the number one pick. From a
physical standpoint, his arm strength is just so big. Now,

(22:42):
I mean, like most guys in college, there's a lot
of work to be done.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
But look at.

Speaker 8 (22:46):
Titans last year. I mean, I think only the Browns
threw more interceptions and they got sacked. I think there
were only five teams in the league that got stacked more.
So it just it just gives them a little little
juice and big picture. You know, from a standpoint, he's
a little shorter, like he's a he's a shade under
six to two, but he's like two hundred and twenty pounds.
I mean, he's got some similarities. Now, this guy was

(23:08):
excellent play one League MVP. But from a body stand uh,
you know, a makeup standpoint to.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
Steve McNair, he's Steve McNair.

Speaker 8 (23:19):
Well, I'm saying, like the bill, like that's kind of
his bill, Like he's a thicker, shorter, big arm guy.
I'm not Steve McNair was, you know, obviously a big
time player and we gotta we gotta just play a
game first. But I just mean that's kind of his build.
You know, he's not like six or four, but he's
not Caleb Williams.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Like.

Speaker 8 (23:37):
He's pretty thick and he's got a big arm. And
let's face it, Miami was buffle on defense this year.
So if it wasn't for cam Ward and they just
had average college quarterback play, I mean, they're probably like
a five or six win team.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Sure. No, I mean that's that's what that's a tremendous
quarterback does it does for you? Okay, So what does
this mean for Shador Sanders?

Speaker 8 (23:58):
I think all signs point to him going to the Giant.
You know, I think it's pretty clear. I don't exactly
know how it's going to shake out, whether he forces
a cut or whether they just acquiesced in a trade,
but it does kind of feel like Cousins is going
to end up on the Browns, and you know, they
are spending so much money on veteran guys that they're
just probably not going to take Shador because the betting

(24:20):
odds have Abdual Carter, which I think is going to
be nasty with him and Miles Garrett and the Giants.
You know, it kind of signaled that they realized that
Rogers isn't coming you signed Jamis, your just classic backup
quarterback right two for eight million dollars. Who Jamis has
really turned around his career is like people just really
like him and he's good to have them in the
building around younger players and he's just a functional player

(24:42):
as a backup. But I think Shador ends up on
the Giants, And I think if you're the owner, you
know his comments last year about Sakuon, Like the business standpoint,
we can't lose this type popularity. Listen, if you're going
to think and be irrelevant, that's bad for business. At
least if you get Shador, who knows I mean all
these picks or you know, a coin flip even high

(25:04):
in the draft. But at least it gives them some
juice and some buzz because like it can't get I mean,
they took Daniel Jones sticks overall and should doors a
better prospect than him coming out of college.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Uh okay,
I've asked you this previously, but now that freegency has
relatively settled down, Uh, who who did the best job?

Speaker 8 (25:28):
Well, I think the Viking, for a team that was
already really good, just added a lot of guys. You know,
the percentages of free agency is and a hundred percent.
But even if they hit on over half of them,
they're gonna be. They're just gonna add a lot of talent. Now,
I think the thing with them is they got a
question market quarterback, Like no one has any clue how
good JJ is gonna be. But if he's just thought,

(25:50):
I think they're gonna be. They're gonna be better than
they were last year in terms of a roster. See
at point now. They won so many games and their
coaching was excellent, Sam was awful about I don't expect
them to win that many games. But I think if
JJ is just you know, a top fifteen quarterback, which
it'd be hard not to be, if he's just okay,
because of the talent they have around him, their offensive

(26:12):
lines improved. They signed two offensive linemen, they already have
two good tackles. They just add two defensive linemen where
their defense is already good, and their defensive coordinators a
big time. So I think it's hard not to be
pretty optimistic. If you're in Minnesota. You can say the same
thing with the Bears. I mean, their their own line
was so terrible. I mean, it was just and Caleb

(26:32):
wasn't great either, but so you add the offensive coordinator
to help out Caleb, and then you had you add
three interior offensive linemen, which for shorter quarterbacks is really
really important. I mean, Sean Payton made a living off
investing in centers and guards when he had Drew Breath
because you it's harder to see that you need to
step up and you can't get away with some of

(26:53):
the guards and centers that Peyton and Tom played with
just because they were so much taller and it was
easy to overcome. So I think I think the North
the Packers are already good, and obviously the Lions went
healthy that division. It was excellent last year, and I
expect it to be even better this year because you
would assume the Bears aren't going to be as bad.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Stett Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. That's the
voice of John Mentalcough Three and Out is the podcast
you can download on the Volume podcast network. It's it
is excellent is kind of an understatement. You have the
the the Xavier Worthy thing right where he's alleging extortion.

(27:34):
It does feel like every year the Chiefs have one
of their wide receivers has something off the field, does
it not?

Speaker 8 (27:42):
Yeah, I mean they've a lot of issues. I mean,
I don't think they're all equal. I mean this, if
she's making it all up, is not doesn't quite feel
like that. I mean she writes thing was clear as
day that the accident him taken off. Obviously back in
the day with Tyree, I think it's hard when you're

(28:03):
drafting at the end of every round, you're not only
not getting the pick of the litter, but like your
expectations are so high, and you know Andy, Andy has
allowed Davis in him like he's a suckle for talents
that sometimes you know, you take some swings. And I
would say he historically, you know, when he took Sean

(28:23):
Jackson the second round, there was a reason that Sean
Jackson was sitting there in the second round and not
a top I don't know, fifteen pick. He was one
of the best players in that draft, but he had
a lot of concerns. So I think he's kind of
made a living off doing that, a little like the
Steelers him Terrell Owens back in the day. But you know,
I think Tosay you're worthy. Situation is a little different

(28:44):
than some of what they've dealt with. But yeah, you're right,
I mean they've they just had a lot of things
that ideally you would like to avoid. I think on
the bright side of their operations, like their high end
star players never get in any trouble. I mean, so
if you're going to have issues with just kind of
replaceable guys, I mean, it's just not the end of
the world.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
No, it's not the end of the world. But again,
like it does feel like on a yearly basis, they
take some chances on wide receivers and there's always sort
of always something. There's just there's always something.

Speaker 8 (29:18):
Definitely the time in the NFL. You know, I don't
know exactly how the college schedule, I mean, you see it.
It's just especially for football, you're not gone as much
I mean a football once the season ends, I mean
you got months. Especially for these younger guys. You know
where she Rice last year, now zager Worthy this year.
Just putting himself in a situation, which I'm not blaming him,

(29:41):
but it's like as you get older, he kind of
I think guys can tell you, they learn how to
kind of just say you've can avoid situations, but you
just have a lot of free time. And for the
first time, Nil's changed a little bit. But like these
guys have a lot more disposed to income. So it's
just like, I mean, look at last year, I'm driving
around like a rented Lamborghini's what are we doing.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
It's Doug got lip show here on Fox Sports Radio.
You know, it's it's it is crazy on on the
NIL and how it's changed things guys have to learn
and they don't do a great job of managing their
money earlier. Sometimes it keeps them in school longer. Let
me just ask you kind of quickly. You've I'm sure
heard that Deon Sanders wants to have a live spring game,

(30:24):
maybe against Syracuse. From a scouting perspective, and you've been
the college that have been the pro level, what are
your thoughts on playing an opponent in the spring as
opposed to scrimmaging your.

Speaker 8 (30:33):
Own Yeah, I think it would be awesome, But I mean,
you are putting yourself out there if he's got some guys,
you know, for people being posts. I mean the reason
these all these games are being canceled, I mean, coaches
like practicing and coaches like playing it's just they're terrified
to put this on TV and have some random guy
on their team be approached by another team because it's

(30:56):
a wild while weft. So I I'll look from a
Dion coaching standpoint like he's been old school from day
one they tackle to the ground in springball. He's not
like some pre Madonna when it comes to the way
he views building his team up. And I think this
is one where he just sees like everyone's hanging a right,

(31:17):
all hang a left, and it's an easy one for
him to kind of get a spotlight to kind of
recruit because I mean, all these I don't know the
exact number, but it feels like a large amount of
teams have canceled the game and before and let's face
the last I don't know, it feels like decade, but
definitely four or five years. The game is a joke.

(31:38):
I mean, it's basically like a live practice kind of
not even because it's being filmed. So I think he's
kind of leaning into it, finding seeing it as an
opportunity where you know, it's like, okay, we'll just play
a game in I don't know what the date is,
but let's just say the middle of April when nothing's
on TV and none of these other colleges are doing
what they used to do and just get like time.

(32:01):
So even say it's a smart marketing move by.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
Bron Yeah, I would agree with you, John, great stuff.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Hey there, Dan Byer, what do you got Doug? The
game today is rank them?

Speaker 7 (33:11):
All?

Speaker 5 (33:11):
Right? Doug ranked the top three teams left in the
men's NC DOUBLEA tournament.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
I think before the tournament, I think I had the
same rankings I would have now, which is Duke would
be my number one. I'll put Florida as my Numero two,
and my number three is going to be Houston. That's
the only change.

Speaker 5 (33:40):
Okay, was Auburn there at three?

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Was that?

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Yeah, Auber was three, But previously, I mean they're three
a three PM. They're right there.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
They're so good. Yeah, we've got the Sweet sixteen coming
up on Thursday and Friday. Doug, rank your top three
games from what we could see in what we will
see in the Sweet sixteen.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
It's a great question. I think that the number three
game is Arizona against Duke. The number two game is
Florida Tennessee. Great football game too, right, Woul, that'll be cool.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
Thing, Kentucky Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
See Kentucky Tennessee. And the number one game is to
watch is BYU Alabama, two really good offensive teams.

Speaker 7 (34:28):
Right.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
The overrunner in that one, I think is one seventy
five point five. Like that one's gonna be fun. There's
gonna be some scoring there, all.

Speaker 5 (34:35):
Right, Doug rank the top three head coaching moves so
far that we've seen in college basketball. Ones that you
like head coaching moves. Yeah, yes, some, I mean I
like actually is changing places? Oh oh oh okay, I
thought you meant like, yeah, sorry, not like adjustments in.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
The Yeah, I mean, I like what's happened so far,
trying to think. I mean obviously, like Ben mccollumb to Iowa,
that just makes sense. I do think there's a longer
discussion to have there. We can have that maybe next hour.

Speaker 5 (35:09):
What about your buddy Josh Passer.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Yeah, Josh got the UNLV job. I'm so happy for him.
But more than anything, like you know, you find out
about people like Josh our friend friends friend Lee, Like,
we're not like best friends, we are connection obviously through
all those Arizona guys I'm friends with. But he's just
been so thoughtful and how many times he's reached out
give me advice, just been kind of a sounding board

(35:32):
and he's asked me a broadcast. He asked me about coaching,
and it's funny the UNOV job, Like I thought that
was a good fit for him a couple months ago.
I gotta have actually have a text that says so,
I said, I don't know if he holds on. What
if he doesn't, that's a good one for you. Pastor
will go Pastor too. And H I think Hodgson getting
South Florida, he's really really good. He was at ARC State.

(35:53):
They thought he was gonna take nov. He took South Florida.

Speaker 5 (35:55):
Uh, that's that's number one, and that's game time.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Stug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. UH. Coming
