Speaker 2 (00:24):
What we get there?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road as a protection,
over ten thousand recommend installars tyrack dot com. It's the
way that tire buying should be uh welcome in. I'm
not sure if you heard this with Robert Sala has
been tired by the New York Jets. Not surprising, but surprising, right,
(00:46):
Jets haven't fired a coach in season. It's five games
in there, one game out of first place in a
division that you know, you would have thought the Dolphins
would have a chance to have some separation. We don't
know when their quarterback will come back. The Bills had
gotten off to a fast start, and then you know,
disaster past two weeks past couple of weekends, and so
(01:07):
the Jets, even though they're not playing good football, still
hanging around. And the one part about the Jets would
seem to be, you know, doing well was their defense.
And though they appointed their defensive coordinated their interim head coach,
the fact is that their defense was likely coached by
their head coaches a former defense coordinator Goodwin. So what
(01:28):
is it well, I mean, look around the league, many
people had said it's a it's a dysfunctional franchise. Joe
Douglas in his last year as the GM doesn't seem
like he's long for that job. The offense continues to
struggle to get the plays in on time, and just
you know, you have a quarterback who appears to have aged,
(01:49):
you know, not just coming out of an achilles injury,
but also the agis is catching up to him and
he's not the same player. And a team who keeps
cycling the through coaches, cycling through quarterbacks appears to be
on the brink of yet another refresh cycle. And it's
interesting to me, Right, there's a lot of different ways
(02:10):
to win football games, but when you take a quarterback
who's played this long, I mean the Tom Brady thing
is the exception and the rule is what's happened so
many other places where aging quarterback do you acquiesce and
install their system. There's a reason that their first team
(02:30):
let them let them go. You know, Donovan McNabb was
traded in division from the Eagles to the Skins at
the time now the Washington Commanders and never amounted too much. Obviously,
we've seen what's happened with Russell Wilson. Brady was surrounded
by such elite talent, and he's such an elite talent
(02:51):
as an organizer that even during COVID, he was able
to get that extra workouts. And look, they won the
Super Bowl. People forget they were the wild card there.
They were the last team in there. They played, had
to play three road games just to get into the
Super Bowl. So it became a success only because of
the postseeds success, which was very much because of Brady
early in the games and then the defense laid in
(03:11):
the games. It's just an interesting dynamic that here's the
guy in Aaron Rodgers who has widely been considered the
best thrower of a football of all time, maybe not
the best quarterback of all time, but.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
The best thrower of a football of all time.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
And yet as is athleticism Waynes with the Achilles tendon injury,
as this is running ability Waynes, not just with the
Achilles injury, but with his age, and everybody catched up
to him. If you watched this weekend when they're playing
in London against another former Jets quarterback, they're like man
and Sam darn didn't even play well and he was
(03:48):
still better than Aaron Rodgers, who couldn't complete a throw.
I think this was the Jets not postponing the reality,
which was they had to move on from. So I
don't think there's any question that Aaron Rodgers thought he
didn't know what the hell he's doing. And there's always
been and going to be a rift in there with
(04:11):
the team if you have a coach, a coach talking
about a quarterback, and a quarterback openly wildly disagreeing with
the coach in the media, in public. So they ask
his you know, some of his defensive guys, and they
asked Sala about his defensive guys. And it's a completely
different vibe over there. And now he's out of a job.
(04:31):
It's a weird one. Kant say, I didn't sid coming.
You know, can't say I didn't sid coming. That's that's
that's the only part. And really when he look the
I understand that. You say it's not bad leadership skill,
I think it's terrible leadership what he did when he
talked about Aaron Rodgers and the cadence, and then Rogers
(04:54):
really cut his legs out when he's like, maybe we
need to hold guys accountable, because that made all of
us think he's not holding accountable. And then when they
came back to Salah last Monday and asked him about it,
he backtracked on talking about the cadence, instead talking about
the getting the plays in and off on time, which
is a shot at his offensive coordinator. So even though
his quarterback is a tough one to coexist with, he
(05:16):
did basically call him out. Then when the quarterback pushed
back against him. Now he called out his offensive coordinator,
who is definitely part of the big part of the
problem in that he doesn't get the right place called,
and let alone called him in a timely manner.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
But all of that can of course irk.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Aaron Rodgers, who as this level of chippiness, which is
unforeseen in the current NFL culture. He always thinks he's slighted.
He always thinks he deserves more, and I believe he
is worth more. He is a great, all time great quarterback.
But like, what do you want now?
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Dude?
Speaker 1 (05:51):
You're making fifty million dollars a year. I think you're
pretty good. You're pretty good. The Rogers thing has been
an abject disaster, but it's not the first time. It
won't be the last. And trying to reprogram a VCR
or trying to get the VCR that's been programmed by
somebody else somebody else's house to bring to your house
and try to like, Okay, do I do I get
(06:13):
off the Netflix account? Do I keep the Netflix account?
Is this gonna alert them? Or are they gonna be mad?
What do I do?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I mean?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Like, look, he's been this league a long time, been
very successful, knows a lot, thinks he knows everything, and
is really hard to coach.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
It is really hard to coach.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on

Speaker 1 (06:45):
What About You Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio s
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Oh yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Hockey's coming back as well hockey preseason basketball. Yeah, there's
interesting goings on. The Russell Wilson that's still the backup
is really telling, really telling, you know. I still don't
understand why Mike Tomlin didn't as still hasn't the name
(07:15):
justin fields like the starter and Russell Wilson the backup.
Obviously it'd hurt his ego, but like you already have
him to do second team raps. Not sure what's totally
behind that one.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Let's welcome in Andrew Brandt, former executive with the Packers,
host of the Business Sports podcast and the Draft Kings Network,
also author of the seven Sunday seven newsletter. You just
fall on social media. All the instructions are there to
sign up for the Sunday seven newsletter. What's the reaction
to Robert Salad being fired so early in the season.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
It is early. I didn't expect it. I thought that
they would give him more time, and give any coach
more time than five weeks into the season, especially with
an overseas game, especially with a total reinout game that
he had against the Broncos. But you know, it's part
of an organizational problem with that franchise that I've seen,
where it just seems like a lot of moves are
(08:08):
being made that don't seem to be in coordination with
the other side of the organization. Doug, I don't think
the front off has helped him out. You know, I
think that getting Aaron was a big lift for this organization,
and obviously it created so much excitement and buzz around
it last year, but it hasn't matched with the young talent,
(08:31):
so it's just not working in a way that they
thought it would. They traded a lot for Aaron who
was never going to play down for the Packers. Again,
they traded a third round pick for a son Reddick
who is choosing to forfeit eight hundred thousand a week
to not show up there. So there's something more endemic,
I think than the head coach here.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
What do you think it is.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Organizationally? You know, the best organizations seem to be on
the same page with management, with coaching, with personnel, with
cap and contracts. I just don't sense it there. I
just don't sense the plan. You know, the plan is
to give up a lot for Aaron. I get it,
and Aaron's superstar, but you have a defensive minded coach,
(09:19):
you have a lot of talent they've used on defense.
It's not playing well. I think the bigger issue is
not Aaron himself. As you know, I'm a big fan
of Aaron. I have known him for a long long time.
But from the moment he was still a member of
the Packers. As you know, they flew out there, they
kissed his ring, they sat in Malibu for four hours,
(09:41):
and begging to play. That creates a power dynamic that
you're not used to in sports, where this guy's coming
in and suddenly or not so subtly wanted Alan Laizard,
big contract, Randall Cobb and maybe wanted the back of
the quarterback Boil. I mean, it just seemed like, you know,
(10:02):
the reason Aaron had problem with the Packers is that
they said, way we're doing management, you'll do playing, and
that wasn't the case here.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Is there any saving it, because I would say it's
not just coaching, like he's not the same player.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Is there any saving it?
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Well, again, it's an early look at Aaron. If we're
talking about Aaron, he hasn't played in the year and
he can still spin it. He's not moving as well obviously,
but you know, he doesn't seem to be the MVP
was a few years ago. He's still going to be
a top take a number ten twelve quarterback in the league.
That part is fine. They don't seem to be getting
(10:41):
out of the running back what they hoped for in
haul and the defense hasn't lived up those expectations. So
maybe that's coaching. Maybe it's leadership. Like I mentioned with Aaron,
I mean, there seemed to be a little bit of
tension with the head coach. I know he denied it,
but one guy's saying something about the cadence, the other
(11:02):
guys saying, no, it's not the cadence. You know, it's
like maybe that change can help. Maybe there's more symbiotic
relationship between leadership and the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Andrew Brand's our guest here on the Doug Gottlieb Show
on Fox Sports Radio. Nobody liked the Danny Dimes contract
the second it was signed. Too much money, playing pretty
well now again, we got a long way to go, right,
We're five weeks in. It's a long long way Togo.
The last twelve weeks feel like, feel like fifty. But
(11:34):
what are the Giants' options moving forward?
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Well, you know, when we talked two years ago, I
said to you, I said, what are you going to
do if you don't? And that's always the discussion. You know,
you can bemoan Danny, you can bemoan the fact that
market was X at that time, forty million a year.
But what are you going to do? You're gonna start
over with a quarterback or are you going to pay it?
They decided to pay it now. As I always talk about,
(12:00):
on these quarterback contracts or any contracts, they're never fully
guaranteed except for Watson, and they can get out. So
they've got ten weeks or twelve weeks to figure out
do they get out or do they not get out
because the guarantees two years. This will be two years
at forty million a year, and then they decide what
to do. You know, everybody loves getting on Danny when
(12:22):
he plays badly. Obviously he played well last week. We'll
see where it goes. But you know, to me, the
test case and we can put aside the concussion talk.
Doug is with Tua because I thought that was a
situation where the team would say, all right, we're just
gonna wait on this because if we pay him, we
got to pay him fifty plus million a year, and
(12:45):
why not wait? But they didn't wait. They jumped in. So,
just like Danny two years ago, we have Tua this year,
and it's like teams just are scared of not doing
a deal, maybe scared of franchise tag, maybe scared of
things like that. Same thing with Dak Prescott. It's like
you're scared of the unknown. And I guess I understand that,
(13:09):
But you have to make a decision. Are you going
to jump in at what is now fifty plus sixty
million a year? Are you going to take your chances?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
It's fast.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Speaking of Tua, we've discussed this on the show. So
what's the status of the remainder of his contract in
regards to if he retires, if he doesn't retire a.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Little complicated, but stay with me. If he retires, you know,
he's got forty three million this year, forty two million
of it in a signing bonus that's his. But I
say that with the caveat that a guy just can't
take a huge signing bonus and retire. The team has
an ability to come after the per raaded part of
(13:48):
the bonus that wasn't allocated in.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
The first year.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Would the Dolphins do that in reality, I wouldn't think so,
but again you have to note they wouldn't do they
would have a ability to do that. If he continues
to play or not retire and unable to play, you know,
he would activate his injury guarantee, which goes through twenty
twenty six. But that would be saying he would not
(14:15):
be able to play this year, next year, and the
year following based on a concussion in September of twenty
twenty four. I have a feeling he's going to be
wanting to play pretty soon, so that's unlikely. So I
think what happens is he may take longer than these
four weeks. But the other discussion you probably had, Doug,
(14:40):
is this is a twenty six year old kid. It's
feeling great and just got a new contract. I don't
care how many doctors caution him. I do not see
him walking away. I just don't see it. For a
twenty six year old it's feeling good now and has
a new contract. I just don't see it.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
I know, but it wasn't like it was a huge
like he he got crushed, you know, I know.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
And you know medical, you know, help medical, he'll find
you know, if he's talking to doctors, there's somebody out
there that says, yeah, it's fine. I mean, and I
guess the bigger pictures. How many twenty six year olds
are thinking about their life at forty six, very.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
Very soon, very few?
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Yeah, Yeah, it's it's a it's a fast aning one,
really really yeah, I think fasting one. Doug gotlib show
here on Fox Sports Radio. A reminder you can pick
up the Sunday seven newsletter. Gots the number seven my
Sunday seven dot com. Andrew Brandt, former executive with the Packers,
(15:43):
host of the Business sports podcast on the DraftKings Network,
of course, the author of the Sunday seven newsletter. That's
my Sunday seven dot com. Yeah, I mean you mentioned
the Cowboys with Dak and you know they had a
great comeback win. But man, the mistakes are are there?
There's some weird interaction in the sideline as well. What
(16:06):
we I don't think we talked since what's your reaction
to Dallas acquiescing when they were going to hold firm
and then ultimately extending Dak.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
I don't get it. I was in Green Bay ten years.
My philosophy was get him early, if not year before
free agency or two years before free agency. Certainly at
the beginning of the off season February March, they waited,
they waited, they waited. The price went up. The price
went up, the price went up. I heard all along, Doug.
(16:36):
I think I told you this on the show a
few months ago, that the number with Dak was always
going to start with a sixth And I said, well,
Dallas not going to do that, And they did it.
They did it on the morning of the opener. Just
shocking to me. They did it with Lamb. They wait
till the end. And what I've been doing, Doug with
(16:58):
the Cowboys is trying to it on my negotiating hat
because I know Jones is a smart guy. Why why
wait till the end and say top dollar? I can
only come up with, well, you know, you keep it
in your account till last minute, and then it goes
to their account at the last minute, so you save
a little money with the interest whatever, or hey, Dak
(17:21):
may step in a hole, you know, Lamb may step
in a ditch. I mean, I just it's hard for
me to come up with that reasoning other than those
two ideas, which aren't strong ones. I mean, it's just
I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
You have I would have.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
I would have I would have let Dak play it out.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
You have worked with with Howie in the past as well.
That Yell and Hurts contract doesn't look like a good one.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Now, well, they did get toom early. They're under the
market or you know that year as soon as he
signed in Burrow and Herbert and Lamar, Lamar's different category.
We're pretty pretty far over that one. Not that I'm
not that's a cheap contract. But let's get hurt some
(18:11):
more time. You know, I looked at one of these
odd things that they're still favored to win that division.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
My Sunday seven the number seven new at my Sunday
seven dot com. That's so you can check out the
Sunday seven newsletter of course, to download the Business of
Sports podcast in the DraftKings Network. He's the one only
Andrew Brent, Andrew, thanks so much for joining us.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Always a butcher.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Doug s Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio
byer Uh what do you think, man, I respect and
appreciate your opinion on this thing, because you know I've
been pro Aeron for a long time. I don't I'm
not saying I've changed and I'm anti Erin. I just
(18:52):
I think he's the men's talent. But I definitely think
that this thing has gone sideways, and he played a
factor in it. But I also think that Robert solid didn't.
It wasn't like you bepored himself as a great head
coach or some other things he said. And I think
that the cadence thing. Then all of a sudden you
throw your offensive coordinator of the bus. I didn't think
that was a strong look. A week ago, what do
(19:13):
you think of the firing of Robert salad Ada.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
I am surprised. This has not been something that the
Jets have done before. I just this Rogers thing has
just not turned out for the New York Jets. And
you talked with it with Andrew Brandt there just a
little bit ago. Doesn't necessarily seem the same quarterback. Remember
(19:35):
though that they were within a drive of possibly taking
out the Vikings. But Aaron Rogers through his third interception
of the game in the in Vikings Territory in London
this past weekend. So they were that close to knocking
off a four and zero team, one of two unbeatens
in the NFL, and it's the head coach that needs
(19:58):
to go, and that is just that's surprising. But the
thing that I've thought about over the last couple of weeks,
and maybe this comes off of the book that we
have discussed on the show, but I don't know how
in the world, Robert Salah or anybody else there exists
when Aaron Rodgers wants to be the smartest man in
the room with everything, and we may roll our eyes,
(20:23):
maybe you believe in what he says when he's not
talking about football, that doesn't necessarily matter. What's his whole thing?
Do your research, read it, look it up. I can't
imagine what it's like dealing with that attitude, Doug, when
he has twenty years experience in doing that job. Like
it's one thing if you're talking about something that's political,
(20:45):
and you could go back and forth on it, but
there would be no moving Aaron Rodgers off of his
spot for something that we know that he knows. And
I can't imagine that working relationship with the Jets. I mean,
it's amazing that Nathaniel Hackett is still a but I
think we all know why he's still around because of
Aaron Rodgers. If there was anything that maybe needed to
(21:06):
change with the run game or whatever the case is,
it's probably that side of the ball. But I am
just yeah, it's just tough. This is not worked out
and will not work out with the Jets.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
You know, it's interesting. I stick with you for a second,
see if this makes sense to you guys. Okay, so
obviously Brady, I think people forget that Brady for a
decade there was the most hated guy in the NFL
because he was quarterback of the Pats, right and they were.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
But remember this is the deflate Gate.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
He was he was seen as a liar and a cheater,
and of course that was like a decade after more
and even more after Spygate, and then he went to
Tampa and all of a sudden kind of reinvented his
image because it was away from Belichick, away.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
From the Patriots and ends up, you know, winning a
super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Now, the real Brady, I thought came out two weeks
ago when you know he talked about Baker Mayfield, and
it wasn't. It wasn't a daycare like turns out like
he was much He was just like Belichick in terms
of his drive to be great and his lack of
willingness to that. This is not kittily wings, This is
not designed for fun. This is the Nation Footall League,
(22:17):
and we win championships here, right, So the image, the
fun facing image is not really it's hard working, don't care,
don't care about your feelings, get to work. The point
is that there was some image rehab there because they
went to Tampa and win one. I think that that
Aaron was focused on image rehab going back to last year.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Remember he did all those things in New York.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
He was happy and smiling and then I'm all into
the process whenever, and then your two, the real Aaron
Rodgers came out like you can only fake it for
so long, and this is who he is?
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Was it Mark Murphy right who.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Said, and I know I know mister Murphy, I'm you know,
I consider him a friend. I haven't asked him about this,
but remember he was what was the word that he
said he was challenging?
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Was that what he said?
Speaker 6 (23:02):
Yeah, it was something I can't remember. And I don't
want to say it because I can't remember the official phrasing.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Yeah, and that's that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
It's like he's demanding, as any of these guys are
of complicated fella.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Complicated fella yep. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
And when you know, when you're with somebody for a decade,
you're like complicated fella, Like yeah, yeah, Like he demands
everybody else bus they're asking over.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
They're doing whatever.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
But then like yeah, in the it is like, man,
I'm gonna go to I'm gonna go to Egypt and
do what I want.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
You know, it's complicated fella, complicated fella.
Speaker 6 (23:39):
You know, you bring up Brady, and I think it's
a really good point, Doug, in terms of the rehabbing
and the image and now it's the real Aaron Rodgers
shows up if you will. But you also look at
the Patriots who didn't give in to Tom Brady, like
they may have for that that long period of time,
but in the end they decided that a move was
needed and they moved off of him. And I don't
(24:01):
know if it's apples to orange or you know, apples
to apples, maybe apples to oranges, but maybe this this
is the danger of doing it. Maybe the Jets looked
at it and said, gosh, the Patriots have fallen off
without Brady. They should have given him the power. We
should give all of our power to the to the
quarterback that we want. But I just don't think those
situations usually work out.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
They do not. They do not.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
And look if you look at Brady's thing, you know,
I mean I do think that he got Arians fired.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
I don't think there's any question he got Aarons fired,
you know.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
And I think it's because Arians is a guy that
you know, he likes to have a good time, like,
let's not take it too seriously, five o'clock, let's go
have a drink.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
And he's like, I just don't work that way.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
And Brady got to bring in a couple of his
guys didn't maybe have the autonomy. It's an interesting one.
Here's two quarterbacks and like we can throw Farv in there. Hey,
Farv went to New York. It was working well until
he decided to play through injury, which of course was
you know, part of that holding on that streak. Then
(25:05):
he goes to Minnesota. First year was great. Second year,
like he didn't want to come back, He comes back,
and he's not very good, and then the Metrodome actually collapsed.
It was very symbolic to me, like here the team's collapsing,
and Farv's career is collapsing, his streak is over, and
then the metro Dome collapse. But there's some interesting case
study that in that with all of them, all of
(25:27):
them Byer, I know, you think the worst of most people.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
I'm guessing you think the worst of Aaron Rodgers in
this case.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
I just I just think he got his way.
Speaker 6 (25:38):
I don't blame in a way there's I don't blame
Aaron Rodgers because he wasn't the one that was empowered.
The Woody Johnson and the Johnson family are the ones
who said, yes, you're going to be our guy where
we want you. Joe Douglas the same thing. Even Slad
I guess, you know, for for a portion of that
(25:59):
probably went a along with it. But that's that's who
I really give the criticism to is Aaron Rodgers. In
that last season, Doug, they were eight to nine, Remember
they lost that came to the Lions and the regular
at the end of the regular season. Before he came in,
it wasn't a great, great Aaron Rodgers like we had
seen the previous two years, so that was probably the
(26:20):
quarterback that you were hoping to have. You were hoping
the motivation of proving the Packers wrong last year would
fuel him. But now you're year separated from him. So
I almost I almost blamed just Jets ownership for signing
off on this. Aaron Rodgers is who he is, He's
shown who he is, so maybe we shouldn't necessarily be surprised.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Case two. Your thoughts, how about.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
This, guys?
Speaker 7 (26:44):
How does DeVante Adams play into this? Because I think
a great way to reverse kind of the the negative
sting to this story would be trading for DeVante. You
could look kint it two ways. Would Deavante Adams want
to do it? Is it his decision? And if you
bring in DeVante, does that just kind of like put
(27:05):
even more of this on Aaron Rodgers, Like not only
did he get his head coach fire, but he got
his old his old player back, and it puts the
pressure squarely on him to win this year. Because I
think this is the Woody Johnson's thinking, this, this is
my one year to get something done and then we
can say goodbye to that pain of the ass Aaron
(27:26):
Rodgers and move on. I think this is a all
the eggs in one basket. So I'll rephrase the question.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
I thank you question.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
There.
Speaker 7 (27:36):
You think they get Devanta Adams.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
I don't, But listen, I understand. I mean Joe Douglason's
last year, Aaron Rodgers probably his last year. It's it's
not a crazy thought. It's far from a crazy thought. Well,
I don't know. I don't know if DeVante Adams was like, yeah,
I'm in for that. You just fired your coach. Here
two and three Aaron Apierce did not be particularly good
and we got to play outside of the cold New
(28:03):
York Like.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
I don't think it's what they need at all on
that team. I don't think you need another guy to
throw the football too. You've got guys that you can
throw the football too. But if you're gonna go all Rogers,
you might as well go all Rogers.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
And do what you can to bring them in.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
So I wouldn't. It wouldn't surprise me. I wouldn't put
it this way. I wouldn't. I wouldn't ease off Doug
like you are saying for the simple fact, devil, if
you're gonna kick Salaut, you might as just ride this
wave the rest of the way.
Speaker 5 (28:35):
You can't sit on the fence.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
You're either all in or you're not, so you might
as well make them happy and then re evaluate everything
at the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Yeah, yeah, that's all.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
What a conundrum.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Doug got Lip Show, Fox Sports Radio. We've had some
suggestions to what blow this off and do?
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Is the Eyed? I don't think though, that's the That's
this the day to do? Is the Eyed?
Speaker 1 (29:06):
I think this is the day to do. Rank them,
isn't it? Let's buyer decide. He's our game master. It's
game time.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
This is game time on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
All right, Doug, let's find out the game today is
rank them? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (29:29):
Just a little side note, is he all right? Does
not resonate with me at all? Zero percent? This is
a when Dan is not in, you can play this game,
but there is a one hundred percent chance that we
will ever play.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Is he alright? When Dan Byer is at the News desk.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Is he all right?
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Yeah? It just doesn't just does not just does not
hit with me.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
I don't know if you guys want to chime in,
you guys want to add Dan.
Speaker 7 (29:58):
Do you think Dan, I'm sorry, do you think Dan
could pull off? Is he? I?
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Uh, he could, but he's not. Like, you can't do
these games if you're not into him, you just can't.
You can't clown your own game, and he would clown
his own game because he's not He's not with it.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
It's okay, he's all right.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
I didn't even get the premise. I just there. Sam
and Jason were trying to explain it to me. It's
just your scene, man, it's not your flavor. Okay, I
believe it to MANSI.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
It's like anime, you know. I know Nimey is very
very popular, just not my thing.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Is he all right?
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I mean I tell you all the time Indian food.
I know lots of people like Indian food. Count me
as one that does not. But you also, I.
Speaker 6 (30:48):
Just you've also basically just stolen an idea from someone
and are using it for your own things. It's like
retelling a joke of a comedian. It's like it is it.
Speaker 7 (30:56):
Is it plagiarism if every time you do it you
give credit to the person who came up with that.
Speaker 6 (31:02):
I still think so those rules of crediting and sourcing
are pretty strict.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
Like if Jay Moore said, this is not my story,
it's actually Burt Kreischer and then he tells it, I
don't know if that's plagiarism.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
All right, moving on to rank them, Doug, rank your
top three teams in the National Football League so far
in the twenty twenty four season.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Kansas City. Kans City's one.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Right, So they're one, and I don't think it's particularly close.
And as much as like all their games are closed,
they haven't played the greatest schedule whatever. It's like, Yeah,
but they just find ways to win games. And that's
kind of the point. Right, Chiefs are one now, now,
g it's interesting. I'll put Vikings at two, although I
(31:51):
think all of us are sitting there going like, hell,
you could just together, you know, hell.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
How long speak for yourself?
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Huh?
Speaker 6 (31:58):
I said, speak for yourself? You said, all of us.
I think they are the real deal, the real deal,
Holy Field.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Okay, I'm gonna go Lions three.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
All right, Lions three, and I guess part of the
part of the Vikings thing is I you.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Know, now the Lions defense not great, so the offense
is really good, really good.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
So I think if you probably asked a lot of
people to go, hey me, Lions one, Chiefs two, and
then you know. But but you know, I'm just trying
to not be such a fanboy of Sam Donald and
be so happy for him. I do realize that he
didn't play particularly well Sunday. Maybe maybe that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
I had this top three as well, different order in
the latest episode of I Want Your Flex, which is
now out, recorded late last night before the solid firing.
But I will say this, it's crazy to think that.
And this maybe proves Jason Stewart's point. Here we are
entering entering week six, Week five, we have two unbeatens
in only three one loss teams, and one of those
(33:03):
one loss teams are the Lions, who are just on buy.
So they very well could get their second loss of
the season in their fifth game of the year when
they're at Dallas this Sunday could happen. But you want
to talk about a jumbled mess right now of just
who people are. Three and two, two, and three, Salad,
that's the National Football League?
Speaker 5 (33:23):
All right? Number one, Alabama went down? How far did
they fall? Doug? Rank your top three college football teams
right now?
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Great question? Great question.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Okay, So I'm gonna put Ohio State one, Texas two,
and I'll put Oregon three.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
I think Miami is a complete fraud. I mean, if
I was ranking up to ten, like, I don't even
know if I'd have them in my top ten. To
be honest with you should have been beaten in the
past two weeks. Complete escapes. Now there's something. Two championship
teams find a way to get it done, but and
they play nothing of substance the rest of the year.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
But I think Miami is a complete fraud.
Speaker 6 (34:12):
All right, Doug, this is a Doug Gottlieb special. In fact,
the next three are Doug Gottlieb specials. It's all in
your preference, Doug. There are eight teams remaining in baseball's postseason.
Which three would you like to see when the World Series?
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Which three would I like to see? What the world
sees it? Well, I'd like to Number three is the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Just so I hear Dan, I mean I heard Jason
complain about the Dodgers sucking the playoffs less the Yankees.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
We're gonna hear from Jason. Why did you have the
parade at this time and on this route? It doesn't
make any sense. I blame Andrew Friedman for this? Was that, right, Jason?
Like even the championship parade could be criticized.
Speaker 7 (34:52):
Anything the Dodgers do wrong as his fault.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
All right, Dodgers at three.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Yeah, Dodge at three, yeah, thanks at two, not that
the Yankees need to win at Yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
He's giving a big thumbs up now his fingers crossed
that it's in the Mets at number one.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, kind of the Mets. Mets at one, all right?
Speaker 5 (35:12):
Look at Sam. He's going nuts right now, he is.
He is jumping.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Those upstart Mets.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
I mean, you know, they're just they're scraping together two
pennies to try and make a dollar. They're kind of
an incredible group, right, How is this possibly happening? Those
spendthrift Mets so lovable?
Speaker 6 (35:29):
Yeah, big apple Sam is love of this, all right.
The NHL's regular season really kicks off tonight, three games, Doug.
If you had to pick three favorite hockey teams in
the NHL. Who to be you can see yourself being
a fan of.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Three favorite hockey team.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Yes, we like the Islanders, Okay, Islanders.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
It's like the Islanders.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
There was a year before we moved to California, we
lived on Long Island and that was right around the
time which they didn't they win like four in a row?
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (36:03):
Early yes, until the early eighties, I believe.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yeah, they were winning.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
So I go Aisles at at three, Edmonton Oilers at two,
just because they had the great one and they also
want a bunch when I was a kid, right uh?
And then I like Chicago Blackhawks. M okay, I like
their jerseys. I think they're cool.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
They are in Utah to I have to face the
Utah Hockey Club.
Speaker 6 (36:33):
Finally, Doug, speaking of Stanley Cups, I think your top
three cups to drink out of? What do you like
to sip out of? Mugs? Stanley cups? Maybe a hydro flask,
maybe just a can of liquid death.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
We can't Liquid deaths definitely one most people who follow me, No,
that's that's one by a long shot. But I do
like a good mug, especially this time of year. I
like cider. Anybody else with me, like cider is good,
really really good. Connecticut. There's a bar in Amnon Bar.
There's a farm, it's like Silverman's Farm in Connecticut, Best
(37:08):
Side or anywhere anywhere. And then after that, after that
little coffee cup, coffee cup, and that's game time.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Doug got Liib.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Show, You're on Fox Sports Radio, coming up next. How
the Chiefs keep doing it
