Speaker 1 (00:38):
You're having a great, great day as we pre closer
and closer to the actual bracket of the NCAA Tournament. Obviously,
last night we had two games. Alabama State in a
crazy ending, crazy ending takes down Saint Francis, Lighting Up
Francis and then North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
As we all predicted.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
That's we all predicted, right, I mean, I think everybody
had the fact that they'd be up forty on San
Diego State, right, you know, I think actually the key
prediction was Iowa, Sam, he said, North Carolina by at
least thirty five. They went by thirty seven. So good
job to you, Iowa said.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Can you see that?

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Just roll with it, Just roll with it.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Anyway, we'll get to that upcoming in a second, but
let's let's start with Uh. I think kind of the
topic d joure, which also happens to be the topic
of the day.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Anyway, that topic is.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Well, Aaron Rodgers, Well, Aaron Rodgers right, And Aaron Rodgers
apparently now is his his number of choices continues to dwindle, right,
continues to dwindle, And by dwindle, I mean sort of
kind of sort of disappear. As the Minnesota Vikings have

(02:00):
moved on, We're moving on. That's one of those Uh,
that's one of those ways in which people break up
with people where you're like, yes, she's just moved on.
I mean she dumped her. No, she's just moved on.
So that's that's what's taken place. And I was thinking

(02:23):
about this, and I do think that at some point,
even though Aaron Rodgers' lack of decisiveness and it can
all be based upon your perspective on him. You know,
I said this I think a week ago, which was

(02:47):
that Colin Cowhard had this great way of putting it,
and he used to say that if you pull up
to a stoplight and there's a thin person and they're
eating at their in their car, You're like, man, look
at that guy. He's just got so much going on.
He doesn't have time for anything. He's got to eat
in the go. He's a man with things to do,

(03:10):
and he doesn't have time to even sit down and
eat his lunch. But if it's somebody that you think
is overweight, you're like, look at him or look at her? Right,
I mean, what a slob always eating fast food, got
a little something on their cheek. It does become very

(03:34):
much based upon perspective.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
And so if you.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Are and I would say that that I was the
most ardent supporter of Aaron Rodgers previous to the vaccine
thing in some of the last couple of years as
a player, whereas since the vaccine thing, Jay stew who

(04:01):
if you missed it, Jason Stewart said that he wants
on his tombstone he searched for whatever the opposite of
the opposite of BS was is that?

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Do I remember your tombstone correctly?

Speaker 6 (04:14):
And I'm stealing that. By the way, the maker of
the Sopranos, David Chase, I heard him say that about
the gentleman who played Tony Soprano. Why is it James
Gandelfini After he passed away. David Chase said he was
always looking for whatever the opposite of BS is.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
I love that. I want that on my tombstone.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Okay, So I mean like, look, I don't think your
tombstones will be in the same cemetery. So I think we're good.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
You know.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
It's not like a woman when she shows up with
that one black dress and she's like, ah, I gotta
go home and change. He's got the same black dress.
You can have the same tombstone if it is in
fact on James Gandolfini's tombstone that says.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
He searched for the opposite of wherever BS is.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Anyway, the point is the point is that the Vikings
are moving on, because I'm sure at some point you're
just like, look, man, the last two quarterbacks we've had,
Kirk Cousins, he moved on, went to Atlanta. You know,
he got paid, went to Atlanta. Obviously that thing didn't

(05:20):
work out. And now you look and Sam Darnold moves on.
He gets paid from the Seattle Seahawks, Like, look, you're
looking to resurrect your career. We have one of the
best wide receivers in the NFL. You play indoors, which
you need as an older quarterback, You play for a
former quarterback in a great offensive system. And oh yeah,
by the way, whether you want to or not, it

(05:42):
is the same path that Brett fav walked. And you
get to play against the Packers not once but twice
season and you can still own the Chicago Bears as
you have for years. And at some point and I
can tell you that, you know, as we transition from
the season to portal season, there does become the do

(06:03):
you want to come or do you not want to come?
And if not, let's just move on. There's other teams
and what strikes some as thoughtfulness, you know, Aaron's just
he wants to make the right decision. Does he want
to play, does he not want to play? Does he
want to play in Minnesota? Does he want to play
in New York? Does he want to play in Pittsburgh?

(06:24):
Does he want to play in Nashville. Where does he
want to play? Strikes others as dude enough, just tell
us where you want to play and let's go. And
we got that yesterday from was that Cam Heyward? And
you got that overnight and into the morning with the
Minnesota Vikings that More and more teams are like, all right,

(06:47):
Aaron's doing Aaron and we're kind of done waiting on
Aeron kind of downeweight on.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Now.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Let me ask you, Jason Stewart, and I know you
don't really care where he goes, but you are the
who likes Aaron Rodgers because it seems like he two
searches for whatever the opposite of BS is. Are you
turned off by this recent kind of act?

Speaker 6 (07:11):
No? No, No, I'm not turned off. And nothing surprises
me when it comes to him. No, And I find him.
I just find him to be an interesting guy. I
don't know if I like him. Dan Byern and I
both did a book on tape, the most recent book
about him, and I walked away liking him or finding
him more interesting. I think Dan found him less interesting.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (07:33):
I won't speak for him, but I do think that
the Steelers, I think all along we're going to be
the destiny. I really do. I think that both need
each other or both have to settle for each other.
I don't know what the wording is there.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Yeah, why Dan, why did you think he was less
interesting to you because the recent book.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
That's because Jason did put words in my mouth. No,
he literally just said he didn't want to speak for me. No,
it wasn't that I thought he was less interesting. It's
not what it is at all. I just was a
lot of I felt that a lot of the stuff.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
That we had heard was confirmed through the book.

Speaker 7 (08:17):
So that's kind of keeping a friend out of his
circle for some weird reasons seemed to justify the breakup
with his family or the inability to want to communicate
with them, and so that was part of it.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
He was, what's the word I'm looking for? That was like,
is it confirmation bias? Is it? Or is it just
back to what we said yesterday?

Speaker 1 (08:42):
With that tracks like everything in the book, You're like, yeah,
that tracks. That sounds right, you know. There was no
surprises to it, Like, yeah, I just I wasted a
couple of weeks reading a book where I thought I'd
find some new stories and there's some interesting stuff, but
none of it is Yeah, it's a little bit of
Tyson zone, right, the Tysons, which I think Bill Simmons
coined that. And the idea of that Tyson's owner is

(09:04):
there's nothing about a no story about Mike Tyson that
would surprise you. And there's nothing in terms of off
the field stuff or really on the field stuff about
Aaron Rodgers that would really surprise you.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Is that a fair way of looking at it?

Speaker 5 (09:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (09:22):
Yeah, And by the way, I recommend I recommend reading that.
I think there is a lot that's interesting in the book.
Eoin O'Connor wrote the book. I forget the name of it.
I think it's called Rogers or something, but it's good.
It's entertaining.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
By the way, do you get credit for reading the
book when you listen to it on tape?

Speaker 6 (09:42):
I've had this exact same argument with my podcast partner,
Brian Beckner of The Bachelor Lifestyle podcast. He shames me
for being a book listener. I've been listening to books
for like twenty five years. But I also as an
accompany met read along with it. It's a technology called

(10:03):
whisper Sync. So I'm gonna spend two hours on the
car today, I'm going to get two hours through my novel.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
And then when I.

Speaker 6 (10:11):
Laid down to go to bed tonight, when I pick
up my kindle, it's going to pick up where I
stopped listening.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Also, his Jason said, I think it's called Rogers, Out
of the Darkness, Out of the Darkness. Yeah, the History
of Aaron, History.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
The uh yeah, sorry, my eyes are bad. The history
is the mystery, the Mystery of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yeah, the Mystery of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Where are you buyer on the Do you say I
read a book about Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 7 (10:44):
Yeah, I've never If I listened to it, I'll tell
you I listened to it.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Again, I don't. I don't shame you.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
I don't shame you, mostly because look, I have books
on my nightstand and I can't say having him like, man,
this is what I'm gonna do. This, then to read
and they're good, and then you read like three or
four chapters.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
I just out.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
It's amazing how quickly I can fall asleep. Amazing.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
All it takes is a book.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Whereas if I'm driving long distance and in Green Bay,
a lot of times.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I like to fly out it. I like to fly
out of.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Chicago because you can get anywhere in the world and
it's like a three hour drive. I can listen to
a book on tape and I don't fall asleep. That
would be problematic. I think where your podcast partner is
right is it's not that you listen to books on tape.
It's that you say the word I read the book
when you very clearly listen to most of it on tape.

Speaker 6 (11:42):
It's a it's a great it's it's a really good
discs uh conversation and in the small things and the details.
But I don't know, it could just kind of sounds
weird if you're just talking to somebody and you're like, yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
Consumed the book, right, say I consumed it, don't know
what I took it in. I absorbed it.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I listened to the book on tank because it's.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
It's like, however, you use your faculties, like if you're
using your eyes, you're using your ears, you're taking in
those words and sense.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
I can assume that book would be really interesting because
then you could tell your story that sounds like how
you would say it at a part.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
I hate the book. I read it, and then it
was also edible and I consume it.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
That's a good point, And but what what happened is
there would be an an inherent and instinctive follow up question.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
You consume the book?

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah, well, you know, like I I read it, but
I also listened to it on tape, so I got
every word. I just didn't get every word from the
traditional sense of open up a book, lick my finger,
turn the page, end of the book, close it up.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
Yeah, I got most correspondence happens like in you know,
you're just kind of dry by conversation. So if if
somebody in this building was like, hey, have you ever
read the DaVinci Code, I wouldn't like try to mint
my words. I just bet yeah, loved it. The movie
wasn't as good as the book. You know, there's no
need to go into this hole. I listen, I actually listen,

(13:07):
or I consumed it.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
You know.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Okay, but what about what about if somebody says, have
you spoken to have you talk to Doug? And you're like, yeah,
but the truth is you've actually texted with me.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
That's the perfect example.

Speaker 6 (13:19):
I think we all do that, right, have we?

Speaker 1 (13:21):
I always say that I haven't spoken to somebody's I say, no,
I've texted them.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
I always say corresponded, because in your it's all.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Really do you really say you correspond?

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Yeah, I say, oh chance, No I do. I say,
I've I've had some correspondence with such and such.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
I have hold on Dan, Dan, you don't forget anything.
Have you ever heard Sam say I corresponded to so
and so?

Speaker 3 (13:43):
No?

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Okay, well, how do you know? I'm just not using
it in my personal life and not with work because
we haven't say it all the time. I'm just saying
I've said it, like Sam he show, I think like
a year and change.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
I think it's more than that.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Well, I thought it was coming out of summer two
years ago.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Yeah, I was on the show like part time and
then full time. It's really been about thirteen months.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Yeah, didn't we try and get him fired? Wasn't that
the Dan? It was you and kidding?

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Okay, So we've been together quite a bit, and you
guys are together a bunch right for people don't know
our setup. Jason and Sam are sitting right next to
each other right now. One thing you could say is, hey,
you know Jay Stu has the cochlear implant, So maybe
he doesn't catch every word, but Bayer doesn't miss a thing,

(14:34):
like literally, Bayer go like if you said, like even
the time I had a pol loco, he'd say, like, oh,
October thirteenth of last year, you brought an alpoloco on
the fourteenth was when we got pizza. And the fact
that a guy who sits right next to you and
a guy who doesn't remember a thing doesn't forget a thing.
Both said, I've never heard you say that word ever.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Well, and that's okay. That doesn't really matter because I
have and I do.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
So that's all.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
You have an on and off button. In terms of
your votecab.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
For work, correspondence, correspondence is a general, all accomassing term
for TEX.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Correspondence isn't a ballot.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
So I use it. That's fine.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Hey, I don't think you're listening that closely to the details.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
It don't matter.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Would I said, No, one is really listening to the
like a word I say, that doesn't matter in a
casual conversation.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
That's exactly my point.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
But no, correspond when you say your corus, you have
correspondence with somebody. I have used that in this past,
and I use it pretty regularly.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
That's my point.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
And the old person that relcts it should matter is
saying that is me, because I do. I'm telling you truth.
There's no reason to lie over that, would you say?

Speaker 8 (15:34):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio
and uh. The only other national host who's been a
head coach in college basketball is Dan Docketty, host Don't
at Me on OutKick, of course, a long time college
basketball coach and analysts and of course radio host and
TV personality. He joins me now here on Fox Supports Radio. Daan,

(16:10):
Let's let's talk to your alma mater, Gerse. You famously
shut down Michael Jordan. You forced Michael Jordan to declare
for the pros because he want no part of you
guard him again in college?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Would you think of of Darien Debries getting the job
at your at IU?

Speaker 3 (16:26):
I really like it. I really like Bet McCollum any.
We talked about that, but I liked it. I mean, look, Doug.
I have said, can we just get a normal human
being here? Can we just get a guy who's gonna
bust his ass that's gonna not talk, achieve, and not
be some weird dude man? And they got all that.

(16:47):
I had one of his assistants, Marty Rick, who's the
head coach at usc Upstate on and he worked for
coach for a long time. And through Marty, I've gotten
to know a little bit about Darren, and you know,
it's always the same thing. He's gonna bust his ass,
he's going to recruit, he's gonna he's open to all
of it. India's got a massive nil number and guys

(17:08):
are gonna play hard and do the right thing. So
I'm very excited about I really am. Not Indiana people aren't.
And you know how that goes. Dog. I mean, oh,
you've traded one nineteen and thirteen coach for another. Okay, fine,
but the direction of the program was no good. I
think I think it's a really good hire. I think
X I think is a great hire. We'll see, but

(17:30):
I'm excited about it. I really am.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
I mean, I agree that the whole other like I thought,
what was really cool is we've we've lost the and
with with uh, with Darik Frees, he had kind of
that wide eyed look that I would have or other
coaches that have. But it's Indiana, right, right, it's Indiana,

(17:56):
And I don't know, like right for players, it's not
yet the same unless maybe you grew up in Indiana.
But if you're forty five to fifty five or forty
five and up, maybe even forty en up, it's completely
like that is hallowed ground, right, hallowed ground. And I
think yet you have that whereas previously I can't. You

(18:20):
know more about each individual guy they've gone and trying
to replace Bob Knight, your former coach, your former boss.
I think that each of those other guys brought in,
some of them arrogance, some of them a lack of understanding,
or maybe they didn't care and they just wanted to
do their own thing. And I do think there's a
certain reverence that that job takes that I think he has.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
I agree, like you can always get a window, Doug
into what a coach is selling by players, what they're saying.
And Tray Jackson Davis I felt this with Woodson. Tray
Jackson Davis said, you know thank you, coach Woodson, you
didn't have to take the job. And I'm like, whoa, wha, wha,
whoa whoa. That tells me. Whatson and I knew this,

(19:04):
but it got confirmed. Was basically selling that, hey, look,
I'm doing Indiana favor by being the coach. I was
a nick coach. I was this bah blah blah, I'm
doing them a favor. And I'm thinking, wait a second, here,
hold on, hold on, here there is And I've told
people this. You know, I saw some lady that went
to Indiana, Courtney cronin Or's some some fool that's her name.

(19:27):
I think, well, Indiana's not a blue bot program. She
went to Indiana. And I'm thinking to myself, you're an idiot.
I mean, what are you talking about. I mean, to
anybody that understands anything about college basketball, you walk in
there and you saw the picture of the Freeze and
his family and Doug. I'm not going to lie to you, man,
Damn there, every one of us players would talk about
how cool is it where you get to practice or

(19:49):
the coach, how cool is it where you get to coach,
and people don't understand it. I don't blame I don't
blame players for not understanding that. You know, players are
going wherever the money is, and you know they see
things on TV. But no, you're right, You're you one
thousand percent right. If you're a basketball person or sports
person that has any understanding, you love it. One of

(20:11):
my favorite things to do when I was coaching there,
and I was there twelve years was I would go
on a lobby. I'd see a family and they you know,
they would be looking at trophies and I'd say, come on,
let's go. I'm gonna give you a tour. And they'd
be like what, and I'd take them the locker room.
I'd always steal some socks from the players. I take

(20:32):
them and get the you know, player socks. I take
and give them the kid or whatever. And I'd say, well,
where are you from And they'd be like, well, you know,
we came in from Connecticut. We were headed to so
and so, but we had to see assem Way Hall.
You know, I'm like great. Or Saturday morning, you know,
if I was there, you know, doing some whatever and
the doors were locked and people were trying to fight
the men. Get them a ball and let them shoot
for a little bit. You know where you're from. I'm

(20:53):
from California. We flew you know, blah blah blah, bah blah,
and there's not a lot of places have that. They're
just not you know, and anybody wants to tell me, well,
you know, the job is slipped. Yeah, you can kiss
my You know what that thing is big time. You
get about six million dollars to coach basketball set, seventeen
thousand are going to show up on a on a

(21:13):
Sunday afternoon against Chicago State. You know, shut up with
all that stupid I heard that girl Courtney whatever they
was crowning, and I just wanted to puke. Ime Like,
you don't ever say you went to Indiana because you
don't understand.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Squad Stuck Gottleib's show here on Fox Sports Trader. That's
the voice of Dan Dockitch. What do we think now
of North Carolina after getting in the tournament by the
skin of their chiny chin chin and then dominating Cenny
State last night?

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Hey man, I'm different. I remember when Billis when VCU
got in and they get to the final four and
everybody's saying they still didn't belong it. I'm with you,
That's cool. But I'm saying, man, you deserved it, and
screw it. You showed everybody. I'm like, Doug, I'm like, hey, man,
we can and I think I'm not going to speak

(22:01):
for you, but you're probably like this. You know, we
bitch wine to moone, talk about the pairings, matchup, seedings,
all that stuff, and then when the game starts, it's like,
that's good. I don't care about it anymore. I'm good
at the games. And I've always said this when people
ask me about teams, what do you think about this matchup?

(22:22):
I said, well, and I say this same thing every time.
If one of the two teams doesn't go stupid from
three point line, should be a good game, and I
think so and so win. But if either team, you know,
is ridiculous from the three point line, that team's gonna win.
And then I talked about the matchup with last night
man R J. Davis went crazy, but they had fourteen

(22:43):
or twenty three or something. Ain't good for them. Bubba
Cunningham's the most relieved guy in America. I do think, though, Doug,
I do think it's ridiculous that he gets a bonus
as the chair of the committee. I mean that's corrupt
as hell. In my I'm from Gary, Indiana, where it's
all corruption. South side it's all right. So I look
at that and I go, mayn Baba got him tricked.

(23:05):
That's got to be eliminated. But hey, what the hell
man Carolin is in. They made the most of it.
I actually got him going with the Sweet sixteen. But
I don't know what you think.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
I did say yesterday in the show, like, look, I'm
not one of these guys that if you lose, it
means you shouldn't have been in, or if you win,
it means you should have been in, because then half
the teams have that. But North Carolina felt like a
special case. I felt like a special case. There's part
of me that's like.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
It.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
I think everybody ends up being right at the end
of the day. Stick with me for a second here, Dan, Okay,
everyone ends up being right because if the committee says, hey, look,
we're just trying to find the best teams. We don't
really care that much about a win here, lost there, whatever,
Carolina is one of the best teams. Obviously last night
you're like, yeah, you're probably right, right, But the people

(23:58):
say they didn't.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Earn their way in.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Well, you're probably right too, because you'd say, like, how
could a team be that good and be that crummy
against anybody good they played all season long.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
So my takeaway is everybody's right.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
I agree. I never thought of it that way, but yeah, hey,
I don't think they should be in. Well why well
I got one quad one win. I don't care what
they do. You're right, hey, man, I think they should
have been in, and they proved it. I'll say this though,
I don't know if you agree with this or not.
But one of the things when you put so many

(24:34):
different metrics and criteria in the things, you can always
make a case for somebody getting in or somebody getting out.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
And then at the end of the day, Dan like
but that you can pick and choose what criteria you
want to use. That's right, They right, right, And so
it's like, well, why did West Virginia not get in?

Speaker 2 (24:54):
They got in.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
My guess is that they all watch West Virginia lose
to Colorado and you're like really, and then you watch
your Carolina near you know, not for lane violation, they
said duke to overtime, and you're like, all right, well,
that team's better than that team. I just watched him.
We can use all this criteria, but at the end
of the day, it's whatever. They had twelve guys in
there and they can vote on however they want.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
To vote on.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
Y's like. I listened to the Bubba, who I really like.
I got to know him as the idea at fall
State when I was at Bowling. Great, I really like him.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah, I like Bubba too. I knew when he's at Tulsa.
He's a good dude.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
Yeah. I heard him say about Indiana, Well, they didn't
have all the metrics. Okay. Then I heard him say,
you know about no, wait what it was the sub
about Indiana? You know, only had four wins, didn't do
enough against the opportunities they had. Blah blah, blah blah.

(25:46):
He was talking about quality one wins and then he
bypassed the quality one wins with North Carolina and went
to all these metrics. And I'm like, see, you can
spin this whichever way you want, right. Mathematicians have known
that for years and years and years. You can make
math go any direction that you would like. So hey, look,
Carolina's in. They took advantage of it. I kind of

(26:08):
you know, I kind of think of it from a
human element, not necessarily a media element. Good for those kids, man,
they had to listen all that crap, right, they'd listen
all that nonsense for mis myself, including bitching, whining, moaning
Twitter on that, and good for them. They they you know,
they did what they did, which was play their ass off,
get a win, and get another opportunity. So what the heck, yeah,

(26:30):
go go get them.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
You know, you and I talked before the college football
playoff and I said, look, I like you, I know,
and he had to put a bunch of money into
their football program, but I was, you know, it was
Boyse and SMU and some of these other schools. You're like, look,
the SEC just has more money, spends more money. And
it doesn't mean that every team that spends money is

(26:53):
better than teams that spend a little bit less, but
by and large, the level of talent and level of
coaching in the league is better than everywhere else because
of that money. I thought the committee got it generally right,
like more SEC teams because they're better, less of the
others because they're not. And even you know, Carolina versus

(27:14):
San the UI State, like one of things. Sandiy State's
kind of tapped out financially. They're just not among the
big boys. That's why they lost. You know, any of
the returning players from the Final fourteen, any quality during
players from the final four team, you know.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Going back to two years ago.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Are you now that we've had the college Football Playoff
and we're just starting the NCAA tournament, are you in
line with that thought that it's really a different sport
considering overall that conference just has and spends more money.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Oh, I don't think there's any question now. You know,
it was addressed today the Freeze address that he said, look,
just because resources doesn't mean wins. You got to get
the right players and you got to evaluate. I do
agree with that. I absolutely, you know, one thousand percent
agree You've got to evaluate, and I think it doesn't
matter the sport. But look, one of the great things
about the Indiana job is Mark Cuban and a guy

(28:07):
named Todd Wagner, Cuban's partner who made as much money
as Cuban on the sale of Broadcast dot Com. Uh,
he's just been a silent guy. But they're both billionaires.
They both went to Indiana, So I would expect. You know,
in Indiana is a great example. They spend five million
dollars on a basketball program didn't make the NCAA ternam
They spend a million two on a center. Hell, they

(28:29):
spend seven hundred and fifty thousand on a guy who
when he said good bye Indiana called it the University
of Indiana. So it's not always so he's how you spend,
but over the long haul, you know, I think it's
an outlier. I think when you have that kind of
money in the modern age of college basketball, I think
you're in real business. I'll give you a story that's unbelievable.

(28:49):
As a kid, my son's team, Illinois State. His name
is Chase Waker. Chase came to Illinois State six' ten
h four hundred. Pounds now he's down to two eighty
and he was the first Team All league. Center got
offered over a million to a couple other, places big
twelve schools and. Others be kent turn it down the
state Of Illinois. State it's a pretty remarkable. Story but

(29:11):
you're not going to see. That you, know he was
so loyal you took a chance on. Me it's. Amazing but,
YEAH i got to see. That so all of a,
sudden you go from a, team let's Say, indiana they
needs the. Center you got, Money you're gonna get a
first Team all league. Kid and you know, this, hell
these first Team all league kids in your league the
horizon of The missouri they can play, now they really,

(29:31):
playing and you know you got, money you can you
can go get. Him and it's a very rare case
where that money isn't going to spend and get you
were so, no, ABSOLUTELY i think THE sec had a
friend of, mine tell me THE sec made a deal
with the with the football. Committee, look you screwed us in,
football so give us give us a six and twelve.
Team give us a six and Twelve oklahoma, team or

(29:54):
whoever it, WAS i forget. It it's somebody six and
twelve in the league and got into the, tournament so
they made. IT i don't buy any of, that BUT
i do think money. Talks you know that more than
any more than ever money.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Talks ain't that the? Truth, RUTH wd you the best.

Buyer this is game time on The Doug Gottlieb, Show.

Speaker 5 (31:23):
Dan, doug the game on This wednesday is for better or?
Worse all?

Speaker 7 (31:29):
Right looking at a lot of things in THE ncaa,
tournament but also some in THE, Nfl doug for better or?
Worse South region versus The East. Region so The south
is number one overall Seed, auburn With Michigan, State Iowa, State, TEXAS,
a and m the top four. Seeds The east region

(31:49):
Has duke number, One, alabama the two Seed, wisconsin the
three Seed, arizona the four Seed, doug which region is
better or?

Speaker 1 (31:58):
WORSE i think the what's the second one in The? East,
YES i think The east is?

Speaker 5 (32:07):
BETTER i.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
BETTER i THINK i Always state with Aut Keshan gilbert
is a different, team AND i THINK i Think duke's
the best, team although you, know not by some huge,
amount BUT i think that, brackets it's a better, bracket better.

Speaker 7 (32:20):
Bracket all, Right doug for better or? Worse talking about
the first four, matchups the games involving the sixteen seeds
or the games involving's involving say the eleven seeds or twelve,
seeds depending on the, air which game is actually better
In dayton or?

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Worse.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
M i don't think it's, close, RIGHT i, MEAN i
know that the crazy there's a crazy ending to the
sixteen seed, game but and the game last night was.
Awful between BUT i the level of talent is so much.
BETTER i think that the twelve seed.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
Game, okay all? Right for better or?

Speaker 7 (32:59):
Worse doug vacant coaching job in college Basketball West virginia Versus.

Speaker 9 (33:04):
Iowa it's a great. Question both vacant at this point they.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
ARE i Think iowa is a worst. Job now, again
it's a loaded, thing it's. Game but they're just very. Different,
Okay and here's how they're. Different first of, All pittsburgh
close To. PENNSYLVANIA i, mean So West virginia close To,
pennsylvania close To, pittsburgh so you have a metropolis area

(33:38):
to kind of recruit. From not That pittsburgh proofs a
ton of, Players.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
They have a.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Lot they have a lot more money Than iowa. Has
Not Indiana, moody but a lot more, money a.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
Rabid rabbid fan.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
BASE i think they play in a more difficult. League
not that The Big ten is. Easy The Big ten
to get to the top. HARD i also think That
iowa it's not that they're, okay being, good but it's
not a school where you're going to go and be
asked to flip it and be super competitive right. AWAY

(34:12):
i feel Like iowa is one Where fan McCaffrey kind
of had it going. Right where you get the best
in state, kids you get a couple of kids outside
of the, state and you just go and you. Grind
they did a good, job they just couldn't guard nearly well,
enough AND i think a lot of that came down
to their. Personnel West virginia has been such a. TURNSTILE
i still think it's a better job from this. Tendpoint

(34:34):
you just it's the state school In West, virginia the
Only division one state SCHOOL i Know.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
MARSHALL i Think marshall must be. PRIVATE i don't.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
KNOW i just know that everything's About West. Virginia In West,
virginia whereas In Iowa Northern drake obviously been, majors but
both have had some great seasons of, late And Iowa
state is very much a, factor Whereas West virginia is
the state Of West.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
VIRGINIA i. Go West virginia is a better.

Speaker 5 (34:59):
Job all, Right, doug for better or.

Speaker 7 (35:01):
Worse the second Round Saturday sunday games versus The sweet
Sixteen Thursday friday.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
MATCHUPS i think the second, round the second round games
are really good because to, me it's.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Second round Games sweet SIXTEENS i played in.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
One there are a lot like a mini final, Four
but by then you've kind of got your sea legs under,
you and it just becomes about who's the best team
in playing well at that, moment whereas with a short
turnaround you don't have a ton of time to. Scout
it can be who's, healthy it can be who's in,
shape it can be a little bit of. Luck those
second round games feel like they're always more competitive than

(35:41):
The sweet sixteen.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
Games all, Right, doug final one for, you for better or.

Speaker 7 (35:44):
Worse aaron rodgers final years in THE nfl Versus Brett
farve's final years in THE, Nfl.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Well right, now you go With Brett farv just because
his next to last year he went to AN nfc.
Championship he went TO anfc championship game and, lost Whereas
Aaron rodgers hasn't snipped the playoffs his last couple of.
Years So i'm gonna go right, Now i'm gonna Go Brett,
favre all.

Speaker 5 (36:05):
Right so that's his game sign.
