Better than great? Football seasons? Here? What?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
What?
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Which means? Fantasy football seasons?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Here?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Which I got? I got an important note for you.
The Doug Gottlieb Show broadcast live every single day from
the tire rack dot Com studios tyrack dot com. Let
me get there on match slection pass, free shipping free
road has a protection number ten thousand recommend in stallars
tyrat dot com. It's the way tire buying should be. Okay, Uh,
(00:55):
we got a couple of things here. Where to click this?
Make sure that we put this on social media. Okay,
football season is here, But it's a very important This
is the most important thing you need to know. Okay.
There are three things that the rest of the world
does not care actually about. You ready for them? Okay?
We don't care about your family vacations. Right, Remember your
(01:21):
own family doesn't care about your family vacations. Remember all
those videos and pictures you took of family vacations or
your kid have you as anybody ever watched those videos? No,
right now, try and show it to somebody else. Nobody
actually cares. Like, let me just tell you about that.
I saw this incredible cave when I was in Egypt,
and I learned about Like, dude, I didn't I wasn't there.
(01:43):
You can't describe it to me, show me a picture.
It's just going to create some sort of fomo that
doesn't have the desired effect. I get it, you loved it,
you appreciate it. If you want to give me some
pointers of I'm going to Egypt. Good, don't care about
your family vacations or your personal vacations. I like hearing
John's eleven U All Star exploits. And I'm sure at
(02:06):
some point Dan Sun is going to have a golf
club and be winning junior golf tournaments. But for the
most part, we don't actually care about your kids academic
or athletic achievements. But you know what we care least
about is your fantasy football team. So if you ask me, like,
won't stick calls about fantasy football because nobody cares, you'll
(02:30):
be able to infer who you should play or who
you shouldn't play. And by the way, if you love
fantasy football, and I actually love fantasy football, I'm so
good at it. I was in my buddies league and
I got kicked out of the league. There is a
real story. My boy's name is Joe Prato Gay. He
works for the Department of Homeland Security. He invited me
(02:50):
to their league. Heay. I was in the league for
one year. I won the league and I donated the
winnings towards a party for everybody. And then the next
year they're like, I'm not engaged enough. I was like, dude,
that's because I wanted off of the group chat. I
don't care enough about your trash talking. I just came
here to win the league. If you want that, go
(03:10):
to Dan. But Dan Buyer's got a great podcast. It's
called I Want Your Flex Downloaded. You got all the
stuff you need. But the truth is, don't share with
other people about the decision you have about your flex
position because they don't care. You know, I almost I
mean guys, I almost trade away Ramande Stevenson and then
(03:33):
all of a sudden, Ramande Stevenson three touchdowns a day
up top. They're like, dude, I really don't care. We
all good, We all agree. Hey, family vacations, kids, accomplishments
that are not your kids. Okay, and your fantasy football team.
Please don't share. Keep that one to yourself. Inner monologue good,
outer monologue not good. Okay. Do you guys believe in
(04:00):
karma in any level?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
You do?
Speaker 1 (04:04):
I do?
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Oh, definitely.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Is that why you're just so nice to everybody because
you think karma ultimately come around and help you out. Yes, okay,
that's cool because John is really that kind of a
human being. What about you, Jasu, There's no way you
believe in karma?
Speaker 4 (04:16):
No, I definitely do.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, but you're cynical about everyone and everything.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Yeah, no, No, I'm definitely cynical. But I believe in karma.
Treating people the right way, treating doing the right things
will pay off. Doing the wrong things will eventually catch
up being Okay.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
That's fair, that's fair if that's your definition of karma.
What about you there, Dan Byr? Yes, the golf gods gods.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
At some point, Yes, they will shine on you. I'm
still waiting.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
But well, there's a little piece of karma tonight. I
don't think Travis Kelsey is a bad dude. Matter of fact,
I know Travis a little bit, and he's a spectacularly
good dude. He and Jason everybody know who knows him
like they're good dudes. But there is a little bit
of of karma from this standpoint. Do you remember when
(05:03):
they won the Super Bowl? Do you remember when Travis
Kelsey kipt going nobody thought we could be here? Do
you guys remember that, like you had you you're gonna
be a Hall of Famer. You have a guy who
would go in the Hall of Fame already as a quarterback,
may go down as the greatest quarterback ever. You have
(05:24):
one of the greatest coaches ever. Right, You're you've been
to another Super Bowl, You've been to AFC Championship games, Like,
does that mean everybody picked you to win the game?
Speaker 2 (05:33):
No?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
But the no one thought we would be here. It
was it was kind of embarrassing. It wasn't offensive, it
was just super eye roll. So look, he didn't suffer
major knee damage. He's gonna be Okay, he tweaked his
knee a little bit. He may or may not play,
but if it keeps him at least one day away
(05:54):
from the mic after the game, going.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Look the fight.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Okay, Beastie boys, don't like that song. It's not that cool.
And everybody thought you had a chance to the super
Bowl because you got you and Pat Mahomes. Please don't
be that guy. I'm just done with that act a
little bit of sports karma? Is it too much to
say karma? Because he's okay, Like, I don't want injury
to fall him. It's not really it's like a tweak
of a knee. Nobody thinks it's a major injury. Is
(06:21):
that too much? Buyer? You usually are my good guard.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
I would say I would not wish injury on anyone.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
I don't want you injury on him. I just don't
want a postgame interview with him.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
I would say, I think it's a little even little
too far.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Okay, yeah, okay, then maybe I'll dial it back, yeah,
somewhere short of karma and just I just don't want
the post game. Nobody thought we'd have a chance. I mean,
like take tonight. He's the kind of guy that win
the game. Everybody's hating on us, Like, dude, you were
six point favorites than four and a half point favorites
because you got hurt by definition people, the important people
thought you were gonna win by four and a half points.
(07:00):
I just I guess part of me is just lashing
out at the nobody thought we would be here thing.
When you've been a favorite ever since you had mahmes.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Isn't it also an exercise and why you shouldn't use
extreme language like I always thought this about the former
celebrated president. When everybody says something or nobody says something,
everything is is despicable, then everything is despicable and nothing's despicable.
My point is this, don't say no one said we
(07:32):
would be here, but the context was we forget how
high people were on the Broncos entering the season. The
Broncos were supposed to beat them out, and then they
had this thing where the Bills were supposed to finally
get over the hump against them too well.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
The Bills but didn't play them in the postseason.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
No, I'm just saying that if he's saying nobody picked us,
I think he's talking about the people from the beginning
of the season that kept doubting them, and I think
those were the two aspects the Broncos predictions. And then
people thought the Bills were gonna get over the home.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Okay, I'm just I don't love that act, but.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
I agree with you. You should never say nobody or everybody
because that takes away from your argument.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I mean, when you say nobody, that's that's like me
saying your fantasy football team nobody cares. When I say nobody,
nobody cares, nobody really cares about your fantasy football team. Literally,
there is not another person. Even your wife is like,
I don't care. I don't know what your deal is
with this thing. Speaking of over the top statements, did
(08:34):
you guys see this like lost in the Caleb Williams
and his dad Carl saying, Hey, Caleb could come back
to school if we didn't. You know, if he doesn't
get the right team, doesn't get the number one pick,
was this, Caleb Williams says, and then the first pick
(08:58):
in the draft. These are like what he's aiming four
and then the other one is eight super bowls. He
was asked why eight? Tom Brady has seven, so you
gotta set the bar high. So the part of me goes, uh,
what's the expression if people aren't laughing at your dreams,
your dreams aren't big enough? Right. It's a great line,
(09:22):
by the way, you can share that. I didn't invent that.
I saw that somewhere on a meme or whatever. And
I just love the line. If people aren't laughing at
your dreams, you're not Your dreams aren't big enough. It's
pretty good, right. But yeah, and this just the whole
thing comes across as talking out your rectum. It comes across.
Do you remember I know Baier remembers this. Do you
(09:45):
remember when and he's I liked Joe Tests. Do you
remember when Joe Tests got the Monday Night football gig
and he did a sit down interview and it was
like he was talking about his method and how he
does play by play, and everybody the industry is like,
what happened to Joe Test? He is feeling himself. You
(10:05):
remember what I'm talking about?
Speaker 5 (10:07):
I don't, but I think that actually makes it better.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Okay, google it. You'll be like, because I've been a
fan of his, I love you like I've worked with
Joe Tests. I actually like Joe Test, but then there's
points in which you're like, dude, relax, you know, get guy,
get over yourself a little bit. So it does happen,
Like I think we've all anytime you're successful first and
(10:32):
there's a point to where you're like whoa. And that's
where you gotta have friends that go like, dude, say
that out loud to yourself, like, oh yeah, that don't
want to be that guy. Don'tant to be that guy.
But regardless of which that's like Kayleb Williams, I mean,
do I think he'll be the number one pick in
the draft.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Do we have the possibility that Drake Bay could be
the number one pick?
Speaker 5 (10:54):
We do.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
It's not cemented, it's not done, you know. And we're
also acting like he's accomplished everything he needs to accomplish
in college football. Uh well, I don't hate to be
that guy, but I'll be that guy. Dude, you haven't
won anything that matters. Didn't win the Pac twelve last
(11:20):
year at USC, hadn't won a college football playoff game,
and of course haven't won a national championship. Like, yeah,
you won the high school trophy. I best quarterback in
college football. I have friends on that staff who love
the kid and think he's immensely talented and likely to
be the number one all of a pick. But like, dude,
you're acting like it's a done deal. I'm the number
one pick, and if I don't get my way, I'm
(11:42):
going to go and come back to school and then
it's gonna work out and this right team is gonna
present itself and I'm just gonna then I'm gonna win
seven or like, relax, get over yourself just a little
bit so in and of itself saying, hey, the goal
is eight rings, not a big deal, right if you're
(12:06):
gonna you know, if you're not, if people aren't laughing,
your dreams and your dreams aren't big enough. But when
then you couple it with the hey I want to
be the first pick. Oh, by the way, I could
still come back to school and eight rings, you just
get the overall sense of my man is feeling himself
and somebody And this is where Carl the dad needs
(12:28):
to come in and go my man like you can
think it, but articulating it and saying it doesn't land
the way you wanted to land. Is that fair? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (12:44):
This reminds me of you know, my whole stance on
a literation. Right, A literation is like wazy, uncreative thing
to do, but it really hits makes a mark number.
Tank for Tua was a thing I think in the
fall of twenty eighteen or whenever that was, and we
all know how that ended up. Tank for Tua. Right,
(13:05):
I'm coming up with my own alliteration here and I'm
hoping to catches on.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Okay, where did this be?
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Caving in for Caleb? I think the Cardinals are caving
in for Caleb.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
About caven for Caleb?
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Caving for Caleb?
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, I think caving in is is a little bit redundant,
caving for Caleb, caving fashtag?
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Does that work down?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (13:23):
I like, w W W DOT won't win for Williams.
There's some alliteration.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Won't win for Williams. Right, that is the late Barbara Walters.
Barbara Walters is right. She did die, she the best
way right late. She would struggle with that one. She
would struggle with that one. Won't will what will we?
I'm sorry, I can't do I can't without Oh.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Like uh Dan's game time that he created last last hour,
it could have been like who are the teams. Most
likely Caven for Caleb. You know, it would have been
the exact same or second Doug and John still would
have had the argument they had about their cults from November.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Collapsing for Caleb. I like Caven for Caleb. I don't
do you think you're okay with that? With eliminating the
inn Caven? Now, is there there a G or no G?
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Even for Caleb?
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Sounds more edgy like it sounds yeah, that's probably more
you could do.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
The Caleb collapse. You could reverse it Caleb collapsepsing for Caleb.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
No, m.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
All right, we get we have a whole year to
work on it.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
It's so funny, Buyer, you are guest hosting my show
last week or maybe was Monday? I don't even was
it this Monday? Was Labor Day? This Monday? Sorry, I'm
just you know, it's like when you start filling in
front of people's shows and you're doing different, like you
don't know what day? So I think it was. Was
it Monday, Jay stew that we uh yeah, we're in
(15:19):
for calling was that when we did the jobs that
were considered the best jobs, the best job and they
are all jobs that, like EI, there's zero chance I
would ever do you have that? Do you have to
have that? Or I'll get that list. Carrie Rose was
with us, all right, we'll get carry roads in a second,
because Carrie's had one of the great jobs ever played
in the NFL and now he's part of our Fox
Sports radio family. But by what I was getting to was,
(15:42):
it's it's one of those like our job is generally
pretty awesome, you know, like you go to it speak
to a bunch of kids and you're like, hey, to
any guys like sports and raise your hands, ha, any
guys like to talk about sports radio and we get
paid to talk about sports. All their hands go down.
You're like, I do kind of cool. Right, It's fun
for sure, But the summer can be like you know,
(16:05):
and I think we're all pretty authentic people here, so
in being in an effort to be authentic, like we
just don't just pull things out of our wrectum which
aren't true or like just bizarre hot top hot hot
take day sort of days, so the summer can be
a lot. We made We made it. Now we have
like real football, real discussions, real talk. Pretty awesome. The
(16:29):
five top jobs dan by Are you ready for him? Okay?
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (16:33):
This is per what magazine was it?
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (16:36):
US News and will Report, which is what we determine
what a good college is apparently by as well. Who
knows who these people are? Number five an information security analyst.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Number four is a PA. A physician's assistant. It's like
a doctor. I think you can prescribe medicine, I think,
but obviously you don't have to go to medical school.
You you get a PA degree medical and health services manager.
My buddy Jason does that. He's very happy with his job,
but I don't know if he's that happy. A nurse practitioner,
(17:09):
which is kind of like a physician's assistant, but anyway.
And a software developer, which software developer sounds really cool,
especially like ooh, do you want to design video games?
And you're like, yeah, but you're gonna be coding all
the time, Like I don't want to do that. I
gotta tell you, Like, our jobs are looking cooler and
cooler and cooler. Would you rather be a software developer
(17:32):
or do what you do, Dampire, I'd rather do this,
Yeah yeah, okay, what if you had what if the
summer months lasted like eight months, would you still have
that same opinion?
Speaker 5 (17:51):
Yeah? Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Okay, Ramos, what about you medical and health services manager
or be the Wizards of the Wizard and you're actually
the manager for all the board ops here at Fox
Sports Radio. We just switched out. I would not know.
I know, we got one of those cool jobs.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Let's get to Kerry Rohase. He joins us now. Of course,
former NFL safety played eight years in the National Football
League and he's an analyst on Fox Sports tradi You can
he him on Fox Sports Radio, contributing on this show
and of course on the weekends. Carry. If I were
to tell you the Detroit Lions we're gonna play in
the kickoff to the NFL seas, if I would tell
you this a year ago today, what would you have said?
Speaker 2 (18:33):
I would say, I should probably take one of the
other jobs, and that probably be more real and more
accurate than this happening right now, So I would not
believe it.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Okay. So with that, and again this is more outsider
looking in. It does feel like these games are different.
The energy is different, the hypees a little different. I
know it's still football, and I know they finished off
like their last win in the season was essentially a
playoff game because it eliminated the Packers from the playoffs,
But am I wrong to think like this one's gonna
(19:05):
be played a little higher level? And no matter how
well they played last year, that was house money. This
is a little different because there's expectations with the Lions.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Oh, definitely a higher level. This is a time when
you know the blow it's really pumping. The guys are
really excited to go out there and make a name
for themselves. Each year it's its own entity obviously, which
we all know when you really can't stand on what
you did last year. I mean internally you can, because
it can you have something to look at. It makes
it tangible. But this year is a whole different year,
and so they're going to have to come out and
(19:35):
actually play well and execute and do the things they've
been talking about all off seasons. So it's exciting, it's
nerve wrecking, and it does it. It's never not nerve wrecking.
The first game of the season, So definitely exciting time.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
As a safety, there are times when you matched up
with tight ends. Let's say Travis Kelcey plays, but he's
not the same ye how does that change how you
play against the can't say chiefs.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Well with with Kelsey, if he's healthier or not, you
have to change if you look so right, I mean so,
I think that's the number one thing a guy that's
maybe taking guessing a little bit thinking about injury, not
one hundred percent. Do you want to change your looks
up on him? You want to get physical with him.
And that doesn't mean just as the primary defender. That
means if you're a d N or a linebacker in
(20:23):
the three fourth system, you want to get your hands
on them, tip them, throw them off time. It will
be off a little bit anyway. But the more you
can get him out of his regular routine on the field,
that's the only way you're going to be effected against him.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Do you sweep the leg?
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Somebody will be sweeping the leg trust and it won't
be where we would probably be able to see it.
But anytime he's around around around the pile, he's going
to get hit a little extra more. You're gonna hold
him down while you're tackling him, you're gonna twist it
a little bit, You're gonna do all the things you
can to gain an advantage. So I don't think there
have been apparent sweep, but there will be some of
(21:02):
that going on.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Okay, help me out. What makes him went healthy? What? What?
How is he able to get open? Right? And it
just it does feel like, dude, they they've had since
losing Tyreek Hill, they got a bunch of kind of
random guys. I mean, ball just Scantling, had a good
year last year, whatever. And it's not like they're terrible,
but they're not big name guys. But the one guy
(21:24):
they always go to is Kelsey and he seems to
almost always deliver. What what makes them so special.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Well that's not the athlete. Think it's not being an athlete,
because he's an athlete, yes, But still with the other guys,
it's just understanding the scheme. So the smarter you are
offensively or defensive, but you know where your weaknesses are
on any given play, right, So that's that's where you
get the upper hand. If you know the weakness and
you know that they're gonna blitz in this particular spot.
(21:53):
I'm going to go to that spot and I'm going
to be open. It's very it's a very simple sumple
understanding of what you're doing and what the other what
the opposition is doing as well. And I think that's
why he him man Patrick Mahomes has such a good
report because he knows Travis knows where the spot is
to be open. And Sabas also runs his route for
(22:13):
a tight end really really really well, and he stamps,
he shaped, he gives you, you know, stuff at the
top of his break that gets them open. And he's
also just a big guy and so if you put
a covered guy on him, usually they're smaller. If you
put a guy that Mattison body size, he's probably more athletics.
So that's that's where it gets tough.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Okay, what about Mahomes? You know that offense. What I've
been told the offense and again you played against the sectually,
you know, is it's it's actually kind of simple, right
there's they're not them, but they just hit you with formations,
with movement and whatever. And then is that is that
zeph Fayir that it's not actually a super complex offense.
(22:53):
It's more the complexity in the in the variance of
looks which changes your assignments defensively.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yeah, it's the it's the options, right. So a lot
of times, even a lot of the routes that Kelsey
are running, like I said, it's based off coverage, so
he has a couple of options in those routes. At
the end of the day, it boiled down to if
Kansas City has time, or any good quarterback and good
receiver has time, it's going to be hard to stop him. So,
(23:21):
especially if they know what they're doing. So I think
that's that's that's the golden ticket for Kandas City. If
they have time and Travis has a two way gold
to run a route, it's going to be hard to
stop him. And I think that's that's what it. You know,
that's really what it bloils down to.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Kerry Road. Joni Us here on the Doug Gottlieb Show,
we're hours away from the kickoff of the upcoming NFL season.
What do you think about Nick Bosas signing the biggest
contract by by a pretty substantial margin, in the history
of the league for a defensive.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Player Number one.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
He deserves it. Great player. The only thing that the
only thing that comes out of this for me is
I came along a little bit too early, because if
I was, if I was still around, you know, these
contracts look really really good right now, and at the time,
I had the biggest guaranteed time text for safety in
the history and in my time right when I was playing.
(24:13):
So you know, you have those moments of yeah, Ma,
you doing have waited a little bit longer.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
But what what is? But help me out? What's that
feeling like? Like, like, you know, you get to the league.
That's one contract, that's one feeling. Just sign a deal
that's the biggest in the history of your position in
a sports that's been around one hundred years. What what
do you remember about that feeling?
Speaker 2 (24:35):
It was? I mean it was crazy. I mean you
think about all the hard work you put in one
you think about where you came from, where in my situation,
you know, lower middle lower lower, lower middle class, and
you know three, you know, two brothers on top of that,
so a lot of things were were scared to receive
and to get and so you get to a position
of being able to get what you want and and
(24:56):
you know, like take care of your family and do
these things, I mean the feelings and describable. I remember
the first signing bonus check that I received, and I
remember keeping that actually check.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
How big? But how come on, you can brag how big.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
The bonus with ten mill? Okay?
Speaker 1 (25:11):
That was so you have a you had a check
for ten mil, like an actual check for ten milliars.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
An actual physical check. And I remember, so my mom like,
what is this? Like, I was like, I get paid
to do this at this level, and it was just
it was crazy.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
That's awesome. That's awesome, man, that's that's so cool. Okay,
Like just just so you know, I'm a Charger fan,
but you talked to enough people. They've drafted really well. Again,
you got to stay healthy. But I mean, Rashaun Slater's
a stud at left tackle. Herbert, it doesn't have to
(25:47):
be Mahomes to beat Mahomes. I feel like, you know, Eckler,
this is probably the last year of Eckler there. But
they got Eckler. You know, you got Keenan, Mike Williams.
They drafted well defense natively. You know, they think Derwin
James is the best safety in football. I don't know
what you think you think of that. I mean, he's
a dynamic player. They got Joey Bose, they got players
(26:08):
all around, but they have that cloud that hangs over
them that there's always something that goes wrong. How hard
do you think that's going to be for them to overcome?
Speaker 2 (26:18):
It's gonna be hard. But I also think everything you
said is one hundred percent accurate. And they and they're
one of those things that if you bet on them
winning the Super Bowl every year, you know, not every year,
but you know in there in the height of their success,
and even right now, it can be a good fit.
But something seems to always happen to whether it's injury
(26:39):
or I think in this instance for them, hopefully they
stay healthy, all these things happen in their favor. I
still just don't believe in their coach being able to
coach in real moments because he's so by the analytics
books that I mean, football isn't played that way, and
I know even talk about others, even basketball, right it's not.
(27:02):
It looks good on paper and you can show these things,
but at the end of the day, the tougher team,
the smarter team, the team that stays healthy is gonna win.
And so, and also just being able to have a
head guy that can pull a game based off what's
happening in the game and not off some play card
that says you should do this if the probability is good.
That's just it doesn't work that way. So I'm worried
(27:23):
about them just for that reason.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Gotta have gotta have feel. Are you betting for or
against Russell Wilson bouncing back this season?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
I'm betting against. I think Russell. I think Russell Wilson
has had a lot of you know, a lot of
success in this league. And obviously, as you can see
at the moment, you know, based off last year, it
was more based around that whole team and what they
did other team, not just him. He made a lot
of big plays when they needed him, but uh, it's
(27:53):
just he's not going to be the guy that's gonna
get you over the hump right now, and so it's
going to be based off what they do as a team
and what they got the good defense, they got some
play makers on offense, So I just don't think they
have enough carry.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
You are the best man. Can't wait to hear you
in the weekends. Appreciate you contributing give us incredible insight
and real analysis. We'll talk with you soon. Thanks for
being our guest on Fox.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Sports Radio, Doug, I appreciate man.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
That's when my guy Kerrie Rhodes joining us to play
eight years National Football League. Can you imagine, like I remember,
this is the real thing. The first time I I
when I like it was it was probably a year
into when I worked at ESPN that I started getting
direct deposit And it was because I used to love
to actually get the physical check and just stare at it.
It wasn't nearly like it wasn't it's a good I
(28:41):
mean for my ad I was like twenty six at
the time. It was good, really good money. But I
just remember like staring at it at times, like this
is my money. This is so cool. Can you imagine
have a ten million dollar check and then what would
happen like, oh, shoot, I signed it. Where's that there's
that check? Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Kind of reminds me of the old Ricky Henderson story.
There's a lot of great ones, but one of them
is that his agent went over to Ricky's house and
there was a bonus check that he had been given
and Ricky put it up. He framed it and put
it on the wall, and the agent's like, that doesn't
come into our account yet. Did you cash that check?
(29:25):
And Ricky hadn't catched it yet, he framed it, had
not cashed it.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Ricky Henderson is a little bit like that Tyson Zone.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
Right.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
There's no story you wouldn't believe to be truth.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio in the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Poor Gregory Santos, I got a drive left center field, wellhead,
mirror field, back.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
To the track. You look and watch it. Kevin Smith,
it's a three run home run. I guess his former team.

Fox Sports Radio, here's Doug Gottlieb.

They help you onto your homing carn church. Together you
can save on both them more Progressive dot comer call
one eight hundred Progressive As the A's get another win
(30:27):
five to two, break out the A's did you buyer?
Did you see the tweet from Jay stut yesterday about
his first ever power rankings for the day.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Yes, yes, I did. I retweeted a reposted it.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
It was good. He had nuclear power one, fossil power two,
solar power three, win Power four, girl Power five. I
mentioned girl power ahead of horsepower. You did not horsepower?
Do not make your top five?
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Well, I mean, horsepower could be in next week's rankings.
It all depends on how it does within the next week.
But the post yesterday was so controversial. I get a
lot of blue language, and my responses you don't know
what the hell you're talking about, and so, I mean
it's very, very polarizing. It's triggering, but my weekly power
(31:21):
rankings are here to stay.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
All right, Let's get to the press.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
The press.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Just make sure you say nuclear power, not nuclear power.
Remember when George okay, nucular power, like it's a nucleus
nuclear anyway, Sorry.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
So, Doug, a story that we've been following in college football,
says Walker, North Carolina ruled in eligible. And speaking of Twitter,
I just tweeted a graphic on three the on three Sports,
the site tweeted a picture of tes Walker in his
North Carolina uniform smiling with a football, and then on
the bottom it just says ineligible. And it's why I
(32:08):
support two photos for your license or ID, one smiling
one just normal apoplectica. Same thing, same thing for an
injury or a player gets released, like put the sad
pixer up or the one with no expression, not the
one with the big smile. But anyway, he is a
victim of the too transfer rule, was not given a
(32:30):
waiver and will not be able to play for the
Tar Heels. Mac Brown, the quote that I had been
telling the audience about was quote the NCAA couldn't care
less about the young people it's supposed to be supporting.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
End quote.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Well, here's my issue with mac Brown, okay, is by
the way, Mac Brown in April. This is a real
quote for mac Brown April. The other thing they've done
with the transfer portal, which I think is good, as
they said you can't transfer twice undergraduate without a way,
So he actually supported the undergraduate rule. Unfortunately, tes Walker,
(33:06):
who I love this like it's about his mental health. Like, honestly,
if your mental health is really an issue, should you
be playing football or should you be dealing with your
mental health. So I believe he can play next year.
He cannot play this year, that's correct, Yes, So what's
gonna happen for the next I don't know, twelve to
(33:27):
twenty four, maybe all the way up into the weekend
is going to be Oh, tes Walker is just so
they're not cutting a scholarship. He'll still be able to
play football. He can't play this year, and if his
mental health is issue, fine, make that the priority this year,
and then he plays football next year if it's really
about the student athlete, Mac Brown, which you're contradicting yourself
(33:48):
based upon your own statements last year.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
NFL Network is reporting that the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback
Joe Burrow could finalize a new long term deal for
the quarterback prior to Sunday's game in Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Yeah. I do want to caution people. I've seen this
on TV. Should Joe Burrow play without a contract? What
are we doing here? Okay, Joe Burrow is under contract
for this year and next year the fifth year contract option,
and then potentially again he'll be under contract for two
They own his rights for seven for four more years
(34:22):
without any negotiation. Don't get me wrong. Should should he
play without a contract extension, that's a question. But don't
say without a contract because that is so far from
the truth. It's stupid.
Speaker 5 (34:33):
Since we're talking presidents. Four more years, four more years,
that's what they could chant. In Cincinnati with Joe Burrow,
Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones claims the team sent a
crisis response team to his home to do a welfare
check on him. Misspracticed yesterday and Josh McDaniel says it
was a private matter. Jones made the claims on social
media since deleted the post.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's some things going on there where
they're scaring some people in Vegas and oh yeah, by
the way, like let's not make the Raiders out to
be bad people because they want to go check on
the dude and see what's going on there, because they
because some of the tweets don't make any sense. I'm
gonna post don't make any sense.
Speaker 5 (35:13):
The new owners of the Washington Commanders making their rounds.
Josh Harris and Limited partner Mitchell Rails spoke with a
group of Commanders fans last night. Possible name change came up.
Rail says, you know what, the one thing that we
can't tell you we are not going to go back
to the old nickname.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Wish they would, so, I wish they would. I wish
they would.
Speaker 5 (35:36):
The ship has sailed on that one, so while it
may not continue to be commanders, it won't be what
the old nickname was.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
What's the record for most nickname changes in a ten
year window?
Speaker 4 (35:49):
They haven't already.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
They already had it. They've already hit the trifecta. Now
they're looking for the golden sombrero. They're like Brady, they
just want, you know, the next one. That's what they want.
That's what they are looking for. What's your favorite name?
The next one?
Speaker 5 (36:01):
The next one? Kim MALKI will you tweet that?
Speaker 1 (36:03):
I will retweet that.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Kim Maulke, the now highest paid women's basketball coach in
college hoops, getting a ten year, thirty two million dollar
extension after LSU won the national championship this spring. Kim
Milk getting more cash in battle Russ.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
She seems lovely and so does her team. Her team's
the highest paid team in college basketball, so she's the
highest paid coach. All makes sense. Gotta pay for those jackets, Yes,
all those jackets. That's the press sick, get out there
and pressed.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
That was the press.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Yes, that's the one. That is the one. That's the
one I've been looking for. Oh all right, buyer four
and a half points. Chiefs are favorite.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
Who you like?
Speaker 5 (36:44):
I'll take the Chiefs tonight, okay, Jay Stow, Yeah, the
Chiefs going away, Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Winning and going away. I also will take the Chiefs. Yes, okay,
when it was six, I told you to take the Lions.
I like the Well, I'll give you that pick in
the in the bonus podcast, I mean my pick up
the day. I'll give you all my pick of the day.
All right, all right, enjoy football. It's back. It's Doug
Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. Oh sorry, I
(37:12):
mean I thought you said ten seconds before. That's all right,
purely organic. I butchered it, my bad. Enjoy football season.
Nobody cares about your fantasy team.
