Sweet tire buying should be, you know, kind of interesting
on the different philosophies with some of these quarterbacks. I
don't know if you guys saw Drake May is going
to start this week, right, And so you look at
(00:44):
Caleb Williams, who finally played I thought, pretty good football
game this past Sunday, but he had to go through
the tumult of not playing well in people questioning him. Frankly,
Caleb is a pretty confident fella, so he survived, okay,
But we're looking at some of these other young quarterbacks
and will they bounce back from the confidence stealer that
is the National Football League. Then you got, of course,
(01:07):
the Chiefs improving the five and zero, and you know
Hunt and Smith Schuster back with the Chiefs and back
being productive. It just shows knowledge of system, trust of
quarterback end up playing a bigger role than your actual
skill set. You know, That's what people ask all the time.
Why when guys get job, why did you fire that guy?
(01:30):
It's not because they are incompetent at their job. It's
because whatever the level of competency one may have caused
the previous guy to get fired, then two, like, you
don't know him, you're gonna do things a different way.
There's a trust component involved. It's just sometimes easier to
bring in people who know you know everything you want
to do. They've worked with you before, they know your quirks,
(01:53):
you know, they know you're an early riser, they know
you're not. Instead of just getting to know somebody and
getting to work with somebody the first time is really hard.
Here's Andy Reid, head coach of the undefeated Chiefs, on
the contributions of Kareem Hunt and Juju Smith Schuster coming
back to the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Juju is a good football player. I mean he's he's
been a good football player for for a long time.
So and he you know, he had the one down
in the end zone that got tipped and he felt
terrible about that. Then he comes back with two huge
ones and that's you know, he's a he's a pro
and does a great job with that.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Here's Pat mahomes talking about those two.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I mean, Kream just runs extremely hard. He gets every
yard out there, catches the ball, does whatever it takes
in order to go out there and win. And then juju.
I mean y'all saw him two years ago. I mean
he fits in well in this offense and so he
did a great job today. So it was cool to
get those guys going and then the step up And
it's going to be like that until we start getting
some of these guys back. It's going to be everybody
(02:51):
who want to step up make plays.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Here's Pat mahomes uh talking about Travis Kelsey's lateral.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Patrick, what was your review on travis lateral? Oh?
Speaker 5 (03:00):
How that? How that funk folded?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
And I mean I'm shaking my head because I told
him before the playoffs, I'm gonna thw it to you
so he can fill the range and he's shot, he's
underhand shoveled it across the entire field. So I mean,
it's like it's like I'm talking to like Sterling. So
it's like it's like it's uh no, it was. That's
Travis man. He's just weighs a he's a special player.
And as long as he doesn't and it works and
(03:23):
then no one knowing, no one's gonna say anything.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah he's But that's kind of who they've been. That's
who they've been. I do think they work on I
do think they practice it, but that's who they've been.
It's much like the Lions with their trick plays. That's
who they are, all right. And with Kelsey, you're just
sitting there going Kelsey's laterals remind me of something. And
(03:50):
this this may sound egotistical. I don't make it a
point to talk about my own basketball career. It doesn't
nearly measure up to any of these guys, Okay, but
I knew I could really pass the basketball. And John McLeod,
late coach at Notre Dame, of course, he coached the
NBA with the Knicks and the Phoenix Suns coach the
greatest game in the NBA finals ever before overtime game
(04:12):
gets the suns, so he I'll never forget like he
used to. He would always say, like, you know, Notre Dame,
don't leave our floor. We make a pass, Notre Dame,
two hand passes, two hands on the ball, and I
just it's never been me, you know. And I led
the Big East in assistant turnover ratio, and I've made
(04:35):
plenty of passes where I'd get in the lane, up
in the air and make a pass and oh yeah,
by the way, I would also I I'll constantly throw
one hand passes. That's kind of what I do, right,
And I would. I remember at the end of the year,
he stopped and he's watching film and he's like, Notre Dame,
(04:56):
we don't need one hand passes. And he looked at
me and he's like, you're the exception to the rule.
And the point is that with Travis Kelcey, you don't
want to you don't want to kill that part of him.
You know, you got to temper it. And really it's
interesting that Mahomes is sitting there going like, you know,
it's like Sterling I think is one of his kids, right.
I think that's what he means it's like, but remember
(05:18):
Mahomes is that guy too. He's throwing left hand passes,
He's throwing no look passes, and you got to tell
him to like be smart about it. But you don't
want to take away that creativity gene, especially with Kelsey,
like it's a big place with it. Even one last
year that was called back. The hardest thing, though, to
(05:40):
teach a team is what the Chiefs have already figured out.
And it's probably the most frustrating thing about being a
Charger fan and said, we you know to this point,
and maybe that's what hardball changes. It's this point. It's
what the Chargers have never figured out. Hardest thing to
teach him is how to win. How to win just
find everybody, just find a way like okay, how well,
(06:03):
it's different every game. There is an absolute skill to
that and it takes tooth. It takes. It's a skilled
coaching and preparation for anything. And then it helps me
to know the best quarterback. Think of what Belichick and
the Patriots and all the preparation and the stories that
(06:24):
we're hearing now, and they used to water down the
footballs and and and play with play with them. What
they tried. They did everything in order to prepare themselves
just to win that game. And the Patriots. Again, here's
part of the Patriots story that I don't think gets
told a lot. They would run trick plays. We think
of Bill Belichick being more conservative than Pat Robertson. But
(06:47):
the truth is they would run trick plays. They would
try different alignments to fool you. They did it against
right before to Flakegate. That's what started to FLI to
Flay Kate conversations. They ran a different alignment which had
to tackle eligible and it confused the Ravens the week before.
And remember Brady was famous again this is the game
(07:08):
before deflate Kate and he's like, maybe they should read
the rule book what he said in front of a camera.
So the point is, though, that the Patriots found ways
to win. The Chiefs find ways to win. All of
these teams that are are great. They just like how
they win that game. They didn't play particularly well. That's
what winners do. That's what winners do. Yes, jud Jaysu,
(07:33):
I thought you had something to say there Stut Gottlieb
show here on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, could somebody explain
to me that the Lebanese flag sort of story element
to Robert Sala being let go. He wore Lebanese flag,
I believe on it was sewn into his shirt, right,
(07:54):
Is that right when they played in England? Is that correct?
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Yes, Jason, I think do you have a little more
background on.
Speaker 7 (08:07):
Uh No, Okay, you guys will link. And I'm thinking
there was some kind of conflict with Woody Johnson's ideology
culture religion.
Speaker 6 (08:22):
I can tell you this because this is what I
was looking up something just to just put that off
to the side for just a second. So Jonathan Jones
a CBS reported that Sala was going to fire Nathaniel Hackett,
and then Woody Johnson fired Sala before you could fire
Nathaniel Hackett. Now there's a report from SNY coming in
(08:45):
and saying that was not necessarily the case that Hackett
was going to be fired, but that Sala. This is
from Connor Hughes, who covers the Jets. Sala was going
to demote Hackett from doing the play calling and hand
it over to Todd Downing. In minutes after that decision
was made, Salah was then dismissed as head coach, even
(09:10):
though interimad coach Jeff Ulbrook is expected to give Todd
Downing the play calling and not have Hackett call plays.
So it's just.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I mean, Hacket hacketts a joke, dude. Let's just be honest.
If you saw, if you saw Aaron Rodgers over the weekend, right,
there's the video of him doing the circular motion with
his finger and getting visibly upset at the sideline. That's
a sign forget the damn play in. Come on, give
me the damn play give me the play you know, listen,
(09:46):
I can tell you it's something that we're adjusting to
my play calling style in basketball. Again, I understand it's
different than football, but remember in basketball there's no stop action,
you know. So if we go Michael Horn's invert you know,
invert uh, you know grenade chase, right, that's that can
(10:08):
be a little wordy, sure, and if you're not ready
for it, you're not prepared for it. Or if even
if you have a timeout and you're stuttering whatever, like,
at some point guys will be like, dude, you can
get the play in. Remember Nathaniel Hackett couldn't get the
play in as the head coach and play caller of
the Denver Broncos. It was they were like the laughing
stock of the league. They couldn't get the play calls in,
and he's had that problem. I just think this, I
(10:32):
understand that we're gonna sit here and go, wait a second.
They met with Aaron Rodgers last night, and now Robert
Sala gets fired. I have no doubt that Aaron Rodgers
did not believe in Robert Salla. None. None. And there
are plenty of people in the NFL were like, yeah,
he's just not really the head coach. He's not. He's
not that not that so, but I don't unders like
(11:00):
I never understood Nathaniel Hackett higher Yeah, I just didn't.
It's like, Aaron, great, you want that, Like, we'll get
you somebody who's been with you with the Packers or
Hackett can be a quarterback coach, but he can't call plays.
He couldn't call plays with the Broncos. Why are we
gonna have him call plays with the Jets when he
struggling to get the play calls in.
Speaker 6 (11:20):
So it's also been pointed out Doug that the Jets
did look at bringing in Arthur Smith this offseason in
a sort of an advisory role, and Smith ended up
choosing the Pittsburgh Steelers. So that was part of Connor
Hughes's report from s n Y.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah, but do you think he would have taken that
ahead of the Steelers.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
No?
Speaker 6 (11:37):
Absolutely not No, especially too about fit. Yeah, stability, organization
for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, I don't think he fits. Also with Hes, he
likes you know, he kind of like running quarterbacks. That's
not it Rogers anymore.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Now on the Lebanese flag aspect of this, to Jason's point,
Salad doesn't work every week, but he wore it in
the London game this past week against the Vikings. So
is it Joe Beninho? I know he's a legend in
the Okay, So Joe Beningo went on the Jake Asmin Show.
(12:11):
Jake former intern here at Fox Sports Radio a long
time ago. Jake does a great job with Jets content
and obviously Joe was also a big, big Jets guy.
They were talking about Salas firing. This is what Beningo
had to say about the Lebanese flag aspect of Sala.
Speaker 8 (12:27):
Sala had a the flag of Lebanon on his shirt
the other day. Now, we all know what's going on
in the Middle East, and I think sala Is just
you know, we know he's Muslim. I think he's representing
the people of Lebanon, and I wonder if that has
played into this in a way as well.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
I don't think so. I know that has Belahs in Lebanon,
but it's there's there are many that believe that that's
not the like the Lebanese people are are forcefully, you know,
being led by Belah. I don't know. I don't think
it's a great look. I don't think it's something that
I would do. But if it's something you feel strongly about,
(13:08):
then you can't not Like it's a Hummas flag. You know,
either have a Hummas or a has a Blah flag,
and that's probably grounds for firing. It's important to people
understand there is a great misrepresentation out there of what
freedom of speech is right and what freedom of speech is.
You have people, and I think most people know who
(13:30):
you have powerful people like, yeah, we're protecting freedom of speech.
Like you don't have the right to just say we
have the hell you want. That's not actually how it
works freedom speeches. You're allowed to speak out against the government,
but freedom of speech is not free from ramification. You
can't just freely speak things that are known lies in
these kind of theies, Like I mean, let's listen, I've
(13:50):
been sued for libel and something that I was not
lying about, simply repeating what I had been told from
somebody who at the time I trusted. And so they're
like the idea that you're just you have complete freedom
to say whatever the hell you want, whatever you want
to wear, whatever you want. Like, that's not how it works.
But I don't think. And I know Joe, by the way,
(14:13):
Joe's like one of the all time great I love
working with him. I was a CBS's everybody likes Joe.
And but you know, he was a caller. You know
the story Chase. Do have you ever heard the Joe
in Ingo story?
Speaker 7 (14:26):
Not one, but nope.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
He was a caller, like a constant caller to Francesca
I think Francesa. Maybe the overnight guys as well, Steve
Summer's overnight guy. I think he's calling Steve Summers show
as well. And he showed up to a couple of
remotes and they were like and he was like I
wanted to They're like, you should do this. So he
started buying time on a local stick in I think
(14:51):
in Jersey, and then he went to school, you know,
like a broadcast in school, and just kept buying time,
buying time that he's a filling. And then he became
like a radios at WFA in New York. It's crazy.
He went from first time long time to long time
long time. I do think that we're overthinking in here
(15:11):
with the Lebanese flag. I think we're overthinking of with
a lot of things. No one watched the Jets. Everybody watched,
ess like, hey, defense is pretty good, but remember the
defense lots of penalties. And as much as we can
sit there and say that they allowed the fewest number
of points over the past two years, part of it
was the defense was good, but part of it off
(15:32):
also was you know, they were shortening the game to
try and hide that offense more than anything else. But
I just I just think the team lacked discipline. And
that's what Aaron Rodgers pointed out. It even pointed out
to me last year that's what happened with that defense.
They lacked discipline. And so when Aaron Rodgers said, hey,
(15:52):
we got killed, some guys accountable. Now, granted Aaron shouldn't
have said such a thing. There is no repriand from
Aaron Rodgers, but I think what he said was a
wildely held belief about Robert solid. Let you really in
on that relationship, and I will do that. When you
go to dinner with a couple, right is, everybody wants
(16:13):
to present themselves as this happily married couple or happy,
you know, happy couple of people that are just you know,
they're just trying to answer each other, you know, finish
each other's sentences. And then every once in a while
you hear a comment you're like, ooh, maybe things aren't
they good at home? That's what I heard from Aaron
Rodgers with the accountability thing. You can be fired for
(16:34):
wearing the flag of an enemy nation. I don't think
that's what took place here. I kind of think that's
sort of Internet trolling, finding something when sometimes the obvious
answer is in fact is in fact the answer.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 1 (17:03):
All right, let's welcome in TJ. Hushman Zada. Of course,
he's a Fox Sports one NFL analyst foreign Pro Bowl
wide receiver. He also co hosts Up on Game with
LaVar Arrington plexco Burst. It airs each Saturday on Fox
Sports Trait. You can find it where you find your podcast.
Let's get to the news today. Robert Sala was let
go by the Jets. What's your reaction?
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Dysfunctional team to do dysfunctional things? I mean very simple,
Like since Robert Salah has been the head coach of
the Jets, they're the number one defense in points allowed.
He's a defensive coach. And I was shocked as anybody
because you're one game out of first place, one game
(17:45):
out of first place. You play two prime time games
back to back. You played the Bills at home and
then you go on the road Sunday night and you
play the Steelers. You and s could be first in
the division. And you fire a head.
Speaker 9 (17:58):
Coach because Aaron Rodgers doesn't like him, Like it's crazy,
But the beginning of then when Aaron Rodgers missed Mini camp,
when roberts All went up and said what he said
to me, that was the beginning of the end of
their relationship.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
So that's how confident are you that that's the logic
behind the firing.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
To me, I believe when I did that, he lost
Aaron Rodgers trust because then let's fast forward, fast forward
to the game. You remember when he tried to give
him a hug and Aaron Rodgers kind of pushed him
off and looked at him like, bro, what are you doing? Yeah,
(18:44):
like he's excited, you just scored a touchdown. Just hug
him back, like what's the big deal? And then after
the game they had to fall start, so you know,
we might have to change up the cadence and then
you know, passive aggressively a rod says, or hold people
accountable instead of doing those things, just gonna talk to
(19:05):
Salt one on one. Listen, I have a man and
the man talk instead of bickering back and forth through
the media. And it was Aaron wanted to flex his power.
It's easier to get rid of a coach that's on
the hot seat than it is to get rid of
a quarterback. We the people in the medium, let me
not say we, you guys, the Gottlids of the world,
(19:26):
the Colin cowards of everybody that's on TV has literally
put these quarterbacks on a pedestal to make them feel
like they're untouchable. They've been put on a pedestal. They're untouchable.
So they say do whatever they want to do, and
if they don't like things, they get their way. And
(19:46):
because of that, things like this happen because quarterbacks feel like,
what are you gonna do to me? You need me
to succeed. And you look at a great When I
said a great quarterback like Josh Allen, he can't he
can't do it without a good receiver. Now he can't
do it. He can't do it without a good receiver.
(20:08):
This is the ultimate team game. You can have a
great quarterback. If the pieces aren't around him, right, they're
gonna struggle. This is the ultimate team game. You need
a quarterback, but you'd need everybody else as well.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Stuck out the show here on Fox Sports Radio, TJ.
Houshman's joining us. Okay, let let's get to a couple
other interesting storylines. The Chiefs continue to win, and now
they're doing it with Jujus ms Schuster, who you know
among others. You know, they're getting the old anybody who's
played for the Chiefs previously wide receiver trying to get
(20:42):
him back together. How sustainable. Is this winning games? Just
finding a way despite the fact that it doesn't feel
like they have the talented wide receiver to do.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
So, the Chiefs think about what I'm about to say.
They have the best offensive player in the National Football League.
They also have the best defensive player in the National
Football League. So you have the two best players on
each side of the ball on your team, and Patrick
Mahomes and Chris Jones. And so when you have that,
(21:15):
you're in every game. And you just so happen to
have two of the better coaches, if not the best,
and Andy Reid call and plays and Spagnola being the
defensive coordinator. Patrick Mahomes needs receivers that are going to
catch the ball. He is going to throw you open.
And so you don't have to be the fastest. If
(21:36):
you are, it helps tremendously. But as long as you
can catch the ball, and that's what Juju's going to do,
is he going to create a ton of separation? No,
are you going to just line Juju up on the
outside and say beat this guy. No, Mahomes will throw
you open. Just catch it. And if you can do that.
For the Kansas City Chiefs as a receiver, You're going
(21:57):
to have success.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Doug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Tradio.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
TJ.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Huschbinzade is our guest. What's wrong with the Niners?
Speaker 4 (22:09):
Rock Purty isn't playing how he's played in years past.
You you've had some injuries. More is on his shoulders.
The biggest thing is I feel like once they acquired
Christian McCaffrey, they became so CMC reliant, Like they rely
on him so much. We would see Debo in the
(22:31):
backfield getting a ton of carre. We don't see that
as much since Christian McCaffrey has been on the Niners,
and now with him out, they're struggling in the red
zone because he can do so much in the run,
in the passing game. But more than anything, their defense
isn't what it was. And so, mark my words, let
(22:52):
the Niners not have the season they want. Watch old
Roberts Solat go back to the Niners and they'll be
back steam rolling everybody on offense and defense. That's my part.
If the Niners do not have a successful season, Roberts
Sola will be back with the Niners and it's gonna
get scary for the league.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Stug Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Trader. That's the
voice of TJ. Huschmann Zada Course forming Pro Bowl wide
receiver with the Cincani Bengals. I mean, help me with
Zach Taylor, Like what is he doing running on a
goot ball three straight time? They get a turnover and
you have a quarterback that's led to Super Bowl that's
playing well, it's five touchdown passes and they like sit
(23:33):
on the ball and then on a fumbled stap on
the on the field goal they miss it. But I
just felt like it was coaching now practice.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
They're so frustrating, man, Like, just see us lose these games,
Like we're one in four. We could really easily be
three and two. Should have beat the Chiefs, should have
beat the Ravens, but we didn't. When you're in that situation, yeah,
(24:00):
Evan McPherson is the hell of the kicker. But they're
treating fifty plus yard field goals like they're thirty yard
field goals now, Like, oh yeah, you're fifty yard field
go wearing field goal range. I'm me personally, I'm putting
the ball in my best player's hands. Joe Jamar and
(24:21):
t go get it. But that's what I'm doing. And
it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback because it
was a long field goal to snap the hole. The
kick didn't go the way it should have gone. But man,
in that situation, you got to put the ball in
your best player's hands and say, go win this game
(24:43):
for us. And so I believe moving forward they will
do that, but we can't continue to make these type
of mistakes get further behind the eight ball.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
Now.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Luckily, the AFC is not looking. There's not a lot
of teams winning games, and so the Bengals are right there.
They win a couple of games. I mean, they'll be
right there. But you got to start winning these close
games and stop giving them up ten in the fourth quarter.
That's a game you got to bring home. You've got
to bring that home at home. But I will the defense,
(25:13):
we gotta play better, man, they got to play better.
They've given up as left or right. They gotta play better.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Is there a point to where we say, yeah, Danny
Dimes is overpaid, but he's he's He's not terrible. Like
Daniel Jones was pretty good this past weekend. He's been
pretty good in the past couple of weeks are we
willing to for whatever reason? And I think it's the money, right,
But for whatever reason, Daniel Jones just gets crushed in
(25:45):
media and social media. And I'm not sure he's I'm
not sure he's deserving that. Not that he's deserving of
super praise, but he's ay, he's not terrible.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
This is twofold. He was deserving of the criticism. He
is playing much better, much better. Like previously, all the
criticism that he received it was fair. Not Now Daniel
Jones has improved and he's improved a ton, and you
(26:21):
got to give him the credit. He kept his head down.
He didn't listen to all the bs that was being
said about him. And so if he's going to take
all the blame when the Giants are playing terrible and
the team's not having success, he has to take He
has to be giving a ton of credit. Now the
(26:41):
Giants are playing well and he's a big reason for that.
You can't just be the guy down when they're doing
bad and now they're doing well and say, oh it's neighbors,
Oh it's stable. You got to get Daniel Jones his flowers.
Kudos to him. He put his head down and he's
improved the ton and so I was the guy at
criticized him. But the way he's playing now, Daniel Jones,
(27:03):
keep billing your thing. I no criticism coming from TJ.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
I hear you. It's Doug Gotlib show here on Fox
Sports Radio. I you know, it's like you want to
trust Sean McVay because you think that guy knows football,
that guy knows quarterback, but you run a quarterback off.
And there was a lot of criticism of Jared Golf
and now they're one of the more fun teams to watch,
(27:28):
a lot of creative play calling. But boy, he's been
pretty good. Where are you on Jared Golf on what
his ceiling is? Because last time we saw when he
got to Super Bowl, it wasn't very good, but that
was early in his career. Last year they were pretty good.
I didn't think the decision making from the coaching staff
was great when the in San Francisco. What are your
thoughts on Jared Goff As of now?
Speaker 4 (27:51):
The Lions have a really good offensive corps of players
that are all fairly young. When you look against you
look at Saint Brown, you look at Jamison Williams, you
look across that best office is blind and football. With
that being said, Golf, I see the word Golf puts
in an offseason. He trains out here. He takes it
(28:13):
very seriously. I mean every time he throws, he has
somebody with him that's working on his body, free training
and post training. Every single time sang out the last
few years, and so he's putting the work in. But
they have good players, they have a good team, and
he's just he's running it and he's doing the hell
(28:36):
of a job running it. Golf is just he's accurate.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Like they're gonna run a little patches, He's gonna get
his head around. Ball on the money. Golf is a
big dude. He throws a very catchable ball. But the
Lion they have a very very good offense and Golf
makes it go. But if you can protect Jared Golf,
he gonna put the ball on money. The Lions to
(29:01):
me right now look like the team that will make
it to the Super Bowl out of the NFC. If
they can avoid major injuries to their key players. They
look like a team that will come out at NFC
and go to the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (29:16):

to u. Dann Buyer's fireroom remorse. Some have remorse.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
I engagement.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
Come on, but there's nothing quite like Buyer's remorse.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
Doug, I have to say, I'm not apologizing for this,
but I picked the Jets to win the AFC East.
They look anything like a winner right now, and the
dysfunction that is plaguing the organization for years and years
was pushed to the forefront today with the dismissal of
Robert Sala as head coach and everything now that's gone
on behind the scenes, whether it be conversations with Woody
(30:35):
Johnson and Aaron Rodgers and what Salo wanted to do
with Nathaniel Hackett. The whole deal is a mess. And
I'm saying to myself, why would I pick the New
York Jets to win the AFC East. What made me
think that the Jets were ready for this sort of responsibility.
Maybe it was by default where I didn't think the
Dolphins were going to be great, and I thought that
(30:56):
the Bills could possibly take a step back with Josh Allen.
But that really wasn't the case, because I actually think
Buffalo could make a Super Bowl run if they get
hot enough. I have buyer's remorse because I believed in
the Jets as a division winner, and even though they
make a change to try to chart a different direction
this year or for this season, I just don't see
it happening. In what has been a dysfunctional start to
(31:18):
the twenty twenty four campaign.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
No, No, you're rightful to have remorse. I feel like
the Jets. There's a lot of Chargers to the Jets,
maybe more so, you know, you and I I agree
that one of the reasons, big reasons we talked about
the Jets so much is because you have so many
of these people in our industry who were Jets fans,
you know, New Yorkers who went to Syracuse. We like
the Jets and the Mets and and Syracuse. But I
(31:45):
also think that they, you know, they they are attracted
to the right shiny lights of something that gets you interested.
And how many times they tried it with far They
tried it here, they tried it there. They had Parcels,
you know, they tried a bunch of different ways to
do this thing, and Parcels probably had it working the best. Obviously.
Rex Ryan another guy who's a who can run hot
(32:08):
and cold people. But I think they need what the
Chargers got in a hardball, a guy who knows how
to run entire organization and knows knows how to win.
And it's not about the flash and the substance. It's
about substance, not about flash. Yeah, and I just again,
(32:28):
there's only one hardball. But there's other guys like him,
and I think that will eliminate so much of these
other distractions which have which have you just run out
of steam after about year two or three.
Speaker 6 (32:39):
I also thought Salo would work out when he was hired.
How'd you thought it was a great coup by the
Jets to get Robert sala And honestly, and I know
Andrew Brandt said that their defense hasn't lived up to expectations,
I would I would disagree on that.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
I know that they are.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
The teams that they have played haven't had great offenses
over the last couple of weeks. But you lose a
twenty three to seventeen ball game where your quarterback throws
a pick six, that's not on the defense. The three
interceptions thrown by Aaron Rodgers not on the defense. The
running game that hasn't been going with Bryce Hall, not
on the defense. Like there's there may be issues all around,
(33:18):
but I just I don't think that defense was a problem.
By putting Jeff Ulbrick now is your defensive coordinator pretty unique.
Now he's got to serve as the head coaching duties
and there's no one there to necessarily run the defense.
Maybe he can just go on auto pilot. But you know,
this is why special teams coordinators are sometimes made head coaches,
because then your offensive guys can just deal with the
(33:39):
offense and your defensive guys can deal with the defense.
And now I just wonder what it does to an
actual strength of the Jets, now that your defensive coordinator
has other options to worry about and your head coach
is no longer there.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Yeah, I don't know the reality to it. I don't
know a name Robert Salah had in their defense. I
don't know if they're really just gonna be a figurehead
and just coach the deep end and then they coached
the offense. I don't know. I'm with you, all right.
What else?
Speaker 6 (34:07):
In terms of buyers rears, this one is just a
minor one. I don't feel like it's got a huge
topic to build on. But for some reason I thought
Andy Dalton was going to really change things for the
Carolina Panthers. And maybe it was the ONOD game against
the Raiders. Remember when when Cam Newton started with the
with the Patriots and came out, We're like, oh wow,
this could be a thing. I remember they played a
(34:29):
barn burner with the Seahawks in a game in an
empty Lomen field on Sunday night, and Cam was Cam
was the real deal. But then at some point Water
finds its level, like even Cam going back to Carolina,
at some point Water found its level. But the Carolina
Panthers are a bad football team, and even as great
as Andy Dalton was in this one game, still is
(34:50):
not going to turn things around. I had a little
bit more belief in the in the Panthers. I was
going to say the Bears, but I like the Bears
as a playoff team. But I don't even know how
much we could read into the Bears win over the
Panthers in Week five just because Carolina just doesn't have it,
did you guys?
Speaker 7 (35:06):
See? It's really one of the most unreported things of
the last two days. Dave Canalis admitted to playing Bryce
Young because he didn't want Andy Dalton in with the
way the offensive line was playing. Could you believe that?
Speaker 6 (35:24):
And I think it was the NFL Twitter handle was like,
look at this dime from Bryce Young or a game
it put up some highlight of Bryce Young. And then
I don't think you could see the score bug that
said thirty six to ten on the bottom with you know,
five minutes left. But the NFL is trying their darness,
while Canallis is maybe living in the reality that we
(35:45):
all should be living in and I should have been
living in.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Uh yeah, one more, one more remorse.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
Oh gosh, I'll tell you what every time that I
think I was on the Saints last night, and I
believed after that two and oh start of the season,
even though I picked the Saints as the worst team
in the NFL, I'm like, you know what, they're gonna
be able to match things with Kansas City Chiefs. Been
playing these close games. Little Buyer's remorse last night on
the Saints who couldn't get it done against the spread.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
And that's Buyer's remorse. Okay, got we got baseball night
right in just a matter of minutes.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:24):
Phillies, Mets, Dodgers, Padres, Jay s dou How confident are
you in the Dodgers?
Speaker 7 (36:29):
No, not at all. Walker Bueller might get something else
ripped off tonight.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Phillies, Mets, Dan Byer, give me the Mets tonight. Okay,
I like I like the home teams tonight, Mets and
the Padres all serious tied up. But one stut Gotam show,
Fox Sports Radio,
