Speaker 1 (00:01):

Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, I Hope You're great, or

(00:33):
broadcast live from the tyret dot com studios tyret dot com.
But we get there. Unmatched election, fast free shipping, free
run ass protection, over ten thousand recommends dollars. Tyrat dot
COM's way tire buying should be okay. So I guess
there's good news for show. Heyo Tani as his interpreter
has worked at a plea deal with multiple federal crimes.
So here's what they found. That his interpreter had lost

(00:56):
forty million dollars in the legal gambling. For forty million dollars.
Who has the details? Ilo, islo, you get the details?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Oh do I have details?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
All right, So his net losses were forty one million dollars.
So the amounts that he wagered and won were in
the hundreds of million dollars. Now, among other details in
the complaint, it alleges that infe wait on me, Zuhara

(01:33):
not o tiny I.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Know, sold down here? Okay, So he won hundreds of
million dollars, but he lost forty million dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, so his net losses were loss. His net losses
were forty one million dollars.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
So his is gross winning was over one hundred million dollars,
but his net losses so he must have lost like
one hundred and fifty and won one hundred and ten. Yeah,
it am I doing the math track.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I can find it for you specifically, but yes, what the.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Like? It's those are crazy number? Okay, keep going? What
else they find?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
All right?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Among among other things, the complaint states an anecdote from
February of twenty twenty two, Mitsuhara falsely identified himself as
Otani over the phone and claimed to the bank that
he was attempting to wire money to an individual who
turned out to be the bookmaker for a car loan,

(02:26):
and the complaint notes that the caller spoke fluent English
and that Otani, of course does not speak fluid fluent English. Now,
the tail of the tape during a twenty five month
period just over two years, Mitzuhara placed nineteen thousand wagers,

(02:47):
so his total losing bets one hundred and eighty three
million dollars. His total winning bets there for one hundred
and forty two million dollars, and that's how you get
the net loss of forty one million dollars.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Is there any proof that O Tony. I know they're
saying like, there's no proof that he knew anything about it,
But is there any proof that he knew nothing about it?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
There's zero evidence that he knew anything about it. And
also what's notable, according to the Department of Justice, none
of the wagers were on baseball out of nineteen thousand.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
All right, Jay, Stu, you're a cynic about just about everything. No,
I'm not saying anything or not, and he'll admittedly so,
and the Dodge are your team, but you're super cynical
about this. What do you think?

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Well, I think another detail that I'm not sure if
I will also said that you know they're working on
a plea deal. This is going to be get pulled
out before any discovery, before any trial, before the public
knows the details of this so the information we're getting
is strictly what the FEDS are choosing to give us, okay,
and what they've concluded is all knew nothing about it.

(04:02):
I don't know as to your point thirty seconds ago, Doug,
they can't prove that he did not know about it.
They can't prove that he did know about it. You
can't prove a negative. I think a lot of people
have a lot to lose in this Major League Baseball,
by extension, the American economy. For this to be kind

(04:23):
of dismissed and someone be a fall guy, for this
to just make it go away and plete it away,
I think is an everyone's best interest. I just this
story doesn't add up from the very beginning. This doesn't
add up, and the conclusion effect, Give.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Me why doesn't add up? Yes, give me why doesn't
a up?

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Okay? The day of the South Korea Series opening day, essentially,
he agreed to the translator, agreed to a ninety minute
sit down with the investigative unit at ESPN, where he
disclosed all of this gambling information, his losses, and that
his friend show Hey Otani knew about the bets and

(05:06):
chose to cover four point five million dollars in debt.
He chose to give that interview by somebody's authority, and
then he went into the Dodgers' clubhouse and told them
the exact same story, including the ownership group in the
locker room. He told that exact same story where Otani
is very aware of all this. And then three hours

(05:27):
later we find out that Otani's lawyers say that he
was robbed and that he had nothing to do with this,
that he had no knowledge of this. So if you go,
if you give that context, I believe the first story.
I really do. I just don't believe the way the
story changed. I don't believe the current story and the

(05:49):
fact that this is being pled away and we're never
really going to know the story was somebody does some
good investigating. I still am skeptical about this in the
entire Tay, you.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Don't think anybody's going to do deep investigation.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
I hope they do. I hope somebody does their job
and and goes above and beyond what the FEDS have
determined here.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Okay, but what if I what if? Again? We start
with the realization, don't you think that the FEDS, if
they found Otani linked at all, that we know about it.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Maybe like that.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
This has always been my thing with the conspiracy theorists
in the NBA, you know, conspiracy theorists everywhere. Like nowadays,
it's really really hard to hide something, right because you
have public what's it call where you get in public records. Yeah,
these acts where you can go Freedom Information Act, right

(06:43):
with Freedom of Information Act. I just I don't see
that there's any way that they can hide. I would
while there won't be a lot of people, there's got
to be somebody out there that would like to see
him exposed if possible. If there's any exposure, I feel
like it will come to light.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Well, think about that. The account was Otani's acount, right, yes,
reading this, it sounds like the transfertor just broke into
his account and then took off the notifications that he
was out this money. So there is a link to
Otania direct a link to Otani. But the only thing
that we can't prove or disprove is that there was
communication between the two about it. And I don't know

(07:21):
if that'll ever come out, but I will say this,
I don't know if Otawani ever made the bets. I
don't know if he ever, he obviously didn't bet on baseball,
so we're cool. But I just don't I think he
was very aware of his friend's gambling addiction and very
well aware of the bets. And I think Otani did

(07:42):
do the bets. I think he was in on the bets. Okay,
put one hundred thousand bucks on IOWA on Monday night.
You know it's I think he was aware of all.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
You think he knew that he was betting over one
hundred million dollars he shouldn't.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Well, I don't know about that, but nineteen thou bets
by your best friend, your closest uh, manager, I just
can't see this being kept from him.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Do you know who's your closest friend? Who you don't know?
Your girlfriend? Who's your closest friend?

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Uh, let's see, maybe a guy named Pete?

Speaker 1 (08:14):
All right? Does Pete gamble on sports?

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Do you know how much he gambles on sports?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
I don't know, but I definitely am.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
I told, do you who's your best friend?

Speaker 4 (08:27):
Thomas?

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Thomas? Yes, doesn't go by Tommy.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
He goes by tom Now. I still call him Thomas
because we've been friends for a long time.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Thomas, Yeah, Thomas bet on sports. No, Thomas married. No,
do you know who Thomas's girlfriend is?

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yes? Doctor Ann, doctor Ann love, doctor Anne.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Okay. How much do you know about his personal life?
Quite a bit, right, how in depth?

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Though?

Speaker 4 (08:54):
We talk probably once a week, I.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Understand, But I'm not saying you don't talk lots of things.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Something like that from me. I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Oh, I totally disagree.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
He's just very transparent as a person.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Again, there's but there's all everybody else. Yeah, And again
it's not that you're keeping secret about gambling. Now. Part
of this is, did you guys see in the introductory
press conference somebody asked how they met and they joked
about it being at a Vegas A bender in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
A bender, a gambling bender in Vegas.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Right, and they both laughed about it, both laughed about it.
My guess would be that Otani knew he liked to gamble. Uh.
And part of it is and we talk about this
all the time culturally. Culturally in Japan, gambling is a
much more everyday part of lives. Like it's not as

(09:53):
looked as a feria in the farious terms as it
is here. Every culture looks at things differently. It's One
of the things that we have a tough time as
Americans is we want people to absorb what we believe
our way of life is the way of life, but
we don't. There's lots of context that we don't understand,

(10:15):
you know, lots of context that we don't understand. And
in Japan, I've been told that the Japanese culture, gambling
is a much bigger part of their culture than is
in ours. In Hawaii, you know, I have a couple
of dear friends who have lived in Hawaii, and I've
always asked, like, why isn't gambling allowed in Hawaii? And

(10:37):
they're like, because Hawaiians love to gamble. They're like, Okay,
that doesn't make any sense, right if they love to gamble,
and you could create more revenue for the government, Like yeah,
the fear is that in Hawaii, if they legalize gambling,
everybody will go broke. Everybody will go broke. So there's
different cultures, and those cultures look at gambling very differently.

(11:02):
So I think it's reasonable to go, Hey, Otani knows
my man likes to bet and bet a lot, but
I can't think that those numbers. I can't think that
he knew that.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Do you think that somebody who makes I think that.
I think they said his salary was five hundred thousand bucks.
Do you think that a guy with that much salary
could make one hundred and fifty million dollars in bets?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Wait, wait a minute, the translator's salary was five hundred
thousand dollars.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
I've heard that in the past.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Yes, well, we here's what Ilo your perishing into. We've
actually done segments on doesn't he have the greatest job
of all time?

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I'm gonna go download.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
He gets to go to baseball games and like he
gets to hang out with his best friend in the
clubhouse every day and help him with an interview every
now and again.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
The Angels called him the twenty sixth man. He was
everywhere with Otani. That's why all this is a little
shaded me.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Well, by the way, just on that point, I'm gonna
read you guy as a passage about that directly from
the DOJ complaint.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
By the way, when I hear passages, I do feel
like it's the Bible. But go ahead.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Otani's agent was aware of the account in question, and
asked Mizuhara on multiple occasions about the account Mizuhara told
the agent the account was private and that Otani did
not want anyone else to monitor that account. The agent
stated he did not confirm these representations directly with Otani,
but stated he had no reason not to believe Mezuhara.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
You don't buy that.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
I just think that the the the translator has agreed
to be the fall guy, and he's absorbed all of this.
So even that recoup, that's just so.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
If it's not the translator, then show Heyotani has a
massive gambling problem.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Right.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I think they both do. I think they they But again, what.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
You're saying is, if it's not the translator, show hey,
Otani has a massive gambling problem, and said gambling problems
don't just go away. You don't just go like, oh,
I'm gonna cut cold turkey doesn't. But drinking doesn't. That
with drugs doesn't have but with sex doesn't that with
any of these things, it doesn't just go away. Because
he got scared straight and there would be there would

(13:16):
be I understand it's technically under his account, but they
would be. Somebody would know something, and people don't keep
their mouth shut anymore. Like I don't know if you've
heard a LeBatard did a thing a long time ago
on Tiger Woods on how Tiger Woods grew up in
one era and then that era changed. He grew up
in the era where Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, all the

(13:39):
big stars whatever that he was around, could do whatever
they wanted in their personal lives and nobody bothered. And
then that all changed and we suddenly, you know, collectively
started grasping in our pearls. And when he got outed
other things, say, our societal view of marital infidelity, it

(14:00):
changed dramatically. So it didn't make what he did better
or worse or whatever. It's just before you know, Babe Ruth,
the famous womanizer, and like to drink and like these
things they were like we usually never mention them because
there was their personal life. Now it became very very public, right,

(14:20):
And so with that in mind, I believe with all
the things being public, I know that show Hay was
a mysterious character, like no one knew anything about show Hay.
So it's very possible that this is who he really is.
It's also possible to think that he got conned by
a con man. That who would think your best friend

(14:43):
is capable of this. It's a great question and I
don't know the answer.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
To How about this angel, Yeah, and this is the
theory out there that was started by me. Think about
the deferment plan. Think about think about the deferment Remember
the Dodgers were surprised because the the the agents came
to the Dodgers with that deferment plan. You know, Showhy's
going to get the bulk of the money at the
very end of this contract. And I was thinking, if

(15:08):
you have a gambling addiction and your agent addiction, the
deferment plan is a perfect way of disciplining that addiction.
We're not going to give you the bulk some We're
not going to give you the equal payments now because
you're going to gamble it allway. You have ten years
to clean up your act and then you get seven
hundred million bucks at the end.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Do you ever believe in the good and people?

Speaker 3 (15:37):
He works in sports radio. I'm a skeptic for sure,
but I like to think about these things.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Okay, I mean, listen, Scott Drew did stay at Baylor
for less money than going to Kentucky, like it does.
There are good people who do good things, and there
are people that get snookered right like Conman wouldn't be
able to be con Man if all of us were
in on the cons.

Speaker 6 (15:59):
Be sure to cat the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Stug Gottleep Show Fox Sports Radio. Are you a badfish too?
Ain't got no come on?

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Man?

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Playing Sublime? Like that's same? You know where Sublime's from,
right your neck of the woods, right Orange County Garden Grove.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
It's a great song man.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
I played great music with Bradley.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Was what a talent? Really? Sad one Stug Gottleep Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. Welcome in. It's a Thursday
and always interesting like this week. To me, I do
get nostalgic. My daughter's turn eighteen on Sunday. But the
first Thursday after the Final four in two thousand and

(16:53):
six or excuse me, yeah, two thousand and six was
when their mom went into labor and we rushed to
the hospital and early in the morning the next morning
we had we had two little premies. So but I
just remember today being such a chill day and this

(17:14):
being at Thursday's at Chill Day, we got Master's updates
for you. ILO's got that covered. We're creeping closer and
closer to the NBA playoffs, and Mark Medina has that cover.
He's our NBA insider for Fox Sports Radio. He joins
down on the Doug Gatleab Show on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, Mark,
the Mavericks are playing great. They've won fifteen and seventeen.
Of course, Luca's stats are ridiculous and he seems to

(17:35):
have figured out how to play with Kyrie Irving. Where
do you think he stands in the MVP discussion?

Speaker 5 (17:40):
Well, first off, Doug heard your segment, Happy early birthday
to your daughter. Where Luka dontriches in the MVP discussion? Yeah,
I put him second right now behind nikol Jokic. I
think that nikolijokicch will ultimately win it, and I think
he's deserving because he's mostly maintained a strong level play.
The Nuggets are high up in the standings. We got
keiv Luke a Flowers because before this season he was

(18:02):
doing Luca things and posting triple doubles, but didn't lead
to winning. And now it has, and that's thanks to
Kyrie Irving and a better supporting cast. But obviously Luca
has his hands all over though.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Okay, so if you're if you're voting, and I think
you have vote, what do you do?

Speaker 5 (18:18):
Yeah? I think I would go with Yoka troight now,
but I think the challenges if these votes even matter
as far as you know, ranking the top five, I
would put Luca second and then Tatum third, and maybe
I would I would put Shay fourth and Edward's fifth.
That actually leaves out Giannis, and that's something I never

(18:39):
would have thought I've done. But look, I gotta I
don't want to say he's at fault necessarily for the
Bucks underachieving, like that's you know, there's that's true, Holiday's
absence and everything else, but he certainly has had a
handle that of not at least mitigating their defense there.
So yeah, that would be my top five.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Okay, what about the Bucks? Yeah, to kind of figure
it out now Giannis is out. What are people in
the NBA saying about about about Doc, about Giannis and
obviously about Damian Lillard and how it all works, how
would all work together in the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
Yeah, there's so many things on pack here with the
injury I don't think that there's concern that it's going
to carry over in the playoffs. You know, him missing
the regular season is the cautious approach. But I think
that it's one of many examples that there's always been
something that comes up with the Bucks that the rails things.
But I think even with Yiannis, whether he was he

(19:34):
didn't get hurt or not, there's just this cautiousness that
we're just going to see the same old story in
the playoffs, and this idea that them flipping the switch
doesn't apply because they're not a defending champion. There's all
the new things that come to be. But I think
what the complicating thing here is that assuming that the
Bucks do fall shot in the playoffs, and I can't

(19:55):
see any scenario that they, you know, beat Boston, I
don't sense that they're is a feeling that, Okay, there's
going to be drastic changes and they have to blow
things up because they've already made the coaching change mid season.
You know, Doc Rivers, he is a proven coach. He
hasn't solved everything, but he's actually he's at least improved things,
most notably defensively, and the roster itself. I don't know

(20:18):
why you would, you know, blow up Piannis or Dame.
It's about you know, trying to assemble, you know, maybe
some better defenders. But you know, I think when you
look at the totality of it, they are just one
of these teams that they are on paper, should have enough,
should have enough to be a better team, and they don't.
So I think that the route moving forward is that

(20:40):
it's about having some tough offseason discussions about how they
improve internally.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Will Kawhi be at full strength to the playoffs?

Speaker 5 (20:49):
Yeah, I have some skepticism, but I'll just relay what
the Clippers say and take it for what it's worth.
But I asked Tyloo the other day if he has
any level concerned about Kawhi Leonard's knee inflammation. He says,
I have no revel of concern. He was, you know,
ass last night, in light of the fact that he's
missing his fifth street games, sat out against Phoenix, if

(21:11):
there's any possibility that he would miss the playoffs, and
he said, as of right now, no. But you can
parse that language and also keep in mind that the
Clippers notoriously have been cagy with medical information all the time,
especially with Kawhi. And I say this, Doug not to
suggest that the injuries are related, because I haven't got

(21:32):
any indication, But we have to keep in mind that
when he had his ACL injury in twenty twenty one,
during the playoffs, they were listening to his day to day.
They were keeping the option open technically that he could
join them on trips when they played Phoenix in the
West Finals, could play at any moment, and then you know,
in the middle of the finals, they all announced, all
of a sudden announced that he had surgery. So yeah,

(21:54):
this is par for the course as far as the
information vacuum with them.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Stet Gottlieb show here on Fox Sports Radio, Mark Medina
is our guest. Okay, what do you make the resurgence
of the Warriors.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
Yeah, it's fascinating because I think that we saw that
they could do this because they have Steph Curry and
Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, but a lot of
moving parts. They are all putting this together at the
right time. But I think that really all it's enough
is to make around in the playing so that they're
not the tenth seed and because of what's happening with
the Lakers recently. With the Warriors having the tiebreakers, that

(22:30):
could happen, but I would be very surprised that they
get past the first round. I think that they are
one of those teams that no top seed would want
to face because you know, it takes a lot of energy,
a lot of preparation to prepare for them. But you know,
think Oklahoma City Thunder when they were young with Kevin

(22:50):
Durant and Russell Westbrook. They challenged the Lakers in six
games in twenty ten in the first round, but like,
there was never a feeling, oh, they could actually win this. Yeah.
I think for the Warrior's case, different dynamics because they
have championship equity. But I really think that's what the
ceiling is. They could win one or two playing games
and then have a tough out in the first round,
and that's a tug.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
Got a show here on Fox Sports for what about
the Lakers' what's their postseason prospects?

Speaker 5 (23:15):
Like, Yeah, well, I think it's a little bit more
delicate just because of the seedings itself, and even if
they win out, they may not move up in the
standings because the Warriors on the tie breaker and all that,
But I think that when I look at them, they're
so day to day and unpredictable that they very well
could lose in the play in. But I don't think,
assuming that Anthony Davis is back, that it would be

(23:38):
hard for them to win won two playing games in
a row. But I think, as we've seen this whole season,
where when they go on winning streaks or they go
on losing streaks, they're always vulnerable that that switch could
be flipped at any moment, and I think that that's
being asked a lot for them to then advance past
the first round. I will add a qualifier though. If
they meet Oklahoma City, I could see that winning because

(24:00):
they've had a good matchup success against them in the
regular season. But if it's Denver Minnesota, you know, assuming
everyone's fully healthy, I can't see them getting out of those.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah, it's it's really hard to Billy Donovan has been
mentioned as a potential Kentucky coach. He said that he's
only focused on coaching the Bulls, but he he didn't
rule out college. It was it was just kind of interesting,
what's the what's the buzz over Billy and what he'll
ultimately do.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
Yeah, I think the buzz is that he technically will
do what he says, he'll focus on the season, but
then you know when that's over, and that could very
well end, you know, as of early next week, because
they're they're going to be in the plan that uh,
he could entertain that kind of discussion, but I think
it's going to come down to you know, contracts as
well as just uh, you know what the fit would be.

(24:49):
But when you look at the Bulls, they've been even
with Demargo Rose is saying he wants to come back
and you know, everyone having optimism that Zach Lavine will
return from injury as a lonzo ball, they've just been
you know, kind of spinning their wheels where they're in
NBA purgatory. They're not good enough to seriously contend, but
they're not bad enough to get rewarded with the lottery pick.

(25:10):
So that would seem like the most low hanging fruit
form of change that would happen.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Stuh Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Tradio. Mark Medina
is our guest. Okay, so if not the Bucks, the
seventy six ers, do they have a legit chance to
take down the Celtics in the East.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
Yeah, I know, obviously the six game winning shrink Joel
Embiid is back that changes things. They're not really a
typical seventh seed. But unless something dramatically happens healthwise, the Celtics,
they just have so much separation and depth. They're not
a perfect team technically, if you want to parse it.
But I don't think that they're going to underachieve the

(25:51):
same way they did last season. I think really their
only obstacle is going to be the Denver Nuggets in
the NBA Finals, because, you know, and assuming health, they
have the continuity train rolling. All their main guys are
playing really well. I know question marks about Jamal Murray,
but there's optimism internally that he'll be fine long term

(26:11):
for the playoffs. So I think, yeah, that's really what's
going to come down to. Do they have enough tactically
to take down the Nuggets. They do on paper, But
the Nuggets have a really good thing going for them.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
They absolutely absolutely do, There's no question about it. I Mean,
the only thing that's really interesting is in the West
is in the possibility of some of these you know,
you get sons who are kind of struggling right now,
Lakers and Warriors, and if they're all in the play
and only to survive, that could be really interesting. Mark.

(26:43):
Awesome stuff. As always, Thanks so much for joining us,
and we can't wait to talk to you as we
get closer and closer to the playoffs.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
Appreciate you. Doug Feeling's mutual right back at you.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
So, Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio. We've got
a lot to get to here, Okay, So tell me
what happened with Tiger. I was talking with Mark Madina.
So he birdied the first hole part of the second
YEP part, the second part, the second Bryce and his
Chambeau seven hundred sixty five.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
Wow. So I mean basically, and I understand that the
later in the day it gets it's pretty breezy out there.
But he's got to get to two or three. Got
to be a two or three underer for us to
take it kind of seriously that he can make the cut.
Is that about right you think? Or that he could
be in play in this thing? I don't know, Rory's
at even par after through eleven. What's the number that

(27:37):
you think you got to see Isaac to be like
I could got to buy into.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
This thing after today or tomorrow, after today, after today,
I mean anything that is even or under par absolutely
after one day, for sure, it's not going to start
to separate, you know, across the board until tomorrow with
the earliest. So I would say at at or low part.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Yeah, okay, Jase, due, do you watch it all outside
of one when it's here? Do you watch it all?
Do you pay attentional or just give me then update
in the story?

Speaker 3 (28:10):
No, I definitely watch him. I watched Tiger for sure,
and I'll watch on Sunday whoever's in the mix. That's
kind of a tradition of mine. I'll watch, I'll watch
on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Is it a tradition unlike any other.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
There was a time when, god, jeez, there was a
time when Jim Nantz came on the Jim Rome Show
and uh it was it was during this week, So
it was he was between the Final Four and the Masters,
and I remember Jim saying, man, you manned up and
you did a ten minute phoner in between this this

(28:43):
incredible week. And I'm thinking manned up like he probably
had like a private jet taken him from the Final Four.
He had he has probably got twenty producers feed him
all this information. He stays at a nice cottage right
in AUGUSTA. I don't know if he's manning up. I
think that's a how are you luxurious?

Speaker 2 (29:02):
It is?

Speaker 1 (29:02):
But I will tell you. So here's the Nance secret. Okay,
he guy ready for it. Nance can go into a
room of like three hundred people, shake hands, kiss babies,
go give a speech, come back, and on his way
out shake hands with some of the same people, remember
their name and remember something about it. That's a great gift,

(29:23):
unbelievable gift. And so I'm sure he uses that with
this prep Like does he have all this information? Yes,
but you still have to have the ability to get
it in smartly, be smooth with it. Right now, he's
not doing the pot of four, so he's had a
ton and he lives. He lives on one of the
most famous golf courses in the world. But still it's
transferring that information and remembering all these little things that's

(29:46):
not easy.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Actually, the real manning up for him and his colleagues
is actually the first round of the NCAA tournament, when
all these people have to do four games and eight
teams in one day.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
I've done it. It's harder for play by play. This
the reason it's impressive for him and he doesn't obviously
do it anymore, is he doesn't do college basketball all
year except for a couple of games. It's not as
hard when you've done it. When you're a hoophead, it
shouldn't be as hard for you. It's still not easy,
but it shouldn't be as hard for you. But yeah,
he's a brilliant, brilliant guy, brilliant guy.

you are doing well. Remember right after the show, our
podcast will be going up. We have an hour podcast
only and we're going to just talk OJ OJ the
seminal moments, and we have some other Do you remember
Ronald Reagan, mister Gorbachev take down that wall?

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Remember?

Speaker 1 (30:58):
Do you remember where you were when the Berlin Wall
came down? And then of course there was the Bullin Wall.
Do you guys remember Hobby Bullin, who was the gold
goldn goalkeeper? Who is the who is he?

Speaker 5 (31:08):
The who is he?

Speaker 1 (31:10):
The goalkeeper for Lightning?

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Lightning?

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Nikolai Hobby Bullin the Bullin Wall. I remember when the
Berlin Wall came down. I don't remember when the Bullin
Wall came down. I don't I'm not aware of that one. Uh,
there were some other ones as well. I those seminal
moments in your life that we haven't we because we
got this with the oj trow.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Well, you know, it's happened fairly recently. I remember, as
I'm sure everybody in this audience and everybody here does,
where they were when they found out that Kobe Bryant
had died four years ago.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Yeah, parked a lot of target for me.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
I was watching my daughter ride in a horse show
and I thought it was a cruel joke. And I
had just landed at Lax myself was very foggy, and
just drove into Orange County and then I was leaving
for this Super Bowl that night. And obviously, you know
that was crazy because my daughter was friends with everybody
on that plane because she'd gone to school with Gigi

(32:09):
and her best friend Perish, and that that that flight
and Alyssa Altabelli, by the way, and of course her
mom and dad died as well. So I remember where
I was that COVID. I think, I think COVID.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
I was actually in the air going to the Super
Bowl with a bunch of coworkers and it just got
around the plane and I remember crying as I sat
there on the airplane.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Samuel, were you in the when he found out cobD did.

Speaker 4 (32:38):
I was here Fox Sports Radio with I was on
with Steve Hartman and Rich Hornberger and our former update
anchor David Gascon was alerted by your former producer Gavin Kinsel,
and we saw it on like TMZ and it was
just gut punch, just numb.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
And if you you want to know, like where our
studio is is probably twenty minutes the crash site tra
about twelve at that and in that morning with no traffics,
like twenty minutes and the crash sites so very very
close to home, very close to home.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
It's a good one. I mean a bad one, but
a good one. It was the start of a very
up and down few years.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Oh crazy. I mean you go from that then to COVID.
COVID was a month and a half later. I mean,
you remember where you were when the world stopped for COVID. Right,
let's get to the press.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
The press.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
What he got there?

Speaker 3 (33:41):
All right?

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Doug gonna read you word for word. Text messages set
between sho He Otani's translator, Ipe Mizuhara and his bookie
March twenty of twenty twenty four, less than a month ago.
Quote technically I did steal from him. It's all over
for me unquote. November fourteenth, twenty twenty two. Mizuhara text

(34:05):
the bookmaker quote, I'm terrible at this sport betting thing.
Huh l ol unquote. And then here is a text
from the bookmaker to me. Zuhara November seventeenth of twenty
twenty three. Hey, Ipe, I don't know why you're not
returning my calls. I'm here in Newport Beach and I

(34:25):
see Otani walking his dog. I'm just gonna go up
and talk to him and ask how I can get
in touch with you. Since you're not responding, please call
me back immediately unquote. A selection of text messages.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Uh, I'm gonna share with you a story. I won't
share with you the gentleman's name, but a guy who
I consider. A former friend called me to ask me, hey, man,
does any your buddy's got a bookie? And I was
just like, yeah, I know some people whatever. So I
called my other friend call. I was like, you swear?
Do you swear by this Guy's like, how do I swear?

Speaker 2 (35:00):
This guy?

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Whatever? But like I've known him for a long time.
I mean, I told him what he did for work.
It's like, I go, I have no idea. I'm not
anyway there the guy I know who I've met through
my friend, who is in fact still a bookie.

Speaker 6 (35:18):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Somebody's gonna explain to me why bookies still exists, but
I I don't understand. I know it's not sports gambling,
it's not legal here in the state, but there's ways
you can do it.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Anyway, still looking for the guy, and they're like, now
I get the calls, like, dude, I didn't. I've never
wagered illegally in my life and I didn't necessarily swear
by him. I just got him your phone number, and
you decided to take his bets. I don't. It's a
really uncomfortable place to be.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
And finally, earlier we were discussing Harry Carey, the legendary
Hall of Fame broadcaster and his drinking prowess. And I
mentioned that back in the early seventies he kept a
log of his drinking at bars and his entertainment for
tax purposes. And here are the stats. I'm not making
this up. In nineteen seventy two, he took one thousand,

(36:10):
two hundred and forty two trips to various bars across
Chicago and the country, seventy to Sully's, fifty, two to
the Key Club, three thirty two to a place called
Butch McGuire's, seven to the Playboy Club. He went drinking
during the calendar year of nineteen seventy two for two

(36:31):
hundred and eighty eight consecutive days.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
It's quid a bender.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
That's what's called a functioning alcoholic. And if you listen
to his broadcast, you're like, Eh, functioning.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Hell.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
That's the hell of a stat. I wonder what the
advanced analytics say about that.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
And that's the press.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
Now you get out there and press.

Speaker 6 (36:51):
That was the press.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
We haven't talked about Scott Drew turning down Kentucky, but
I do think it's one of those things where you go, well,
If you can win a national championship a Bay, why
do need to go to Kentucky. And it's one of
those things that once you get to a certain price point,
the money doesn't entice you as much. You actually have enough, right,
It's a hard thing for all of us as guys.
What is enough? Yes, you could double your income, but

(37:18):
at what price? People always say, don't mess with happy.
Scot Drew's not mess with happy. I messed with happy
and it can screw you up some I get it.
