(00:46):
draft maybe future ones that's coming up this week. We

game between Chicago that finally beat the Indiana Fever. And
we have what could be a historic come back in

(01:06):
now they have a chance to win in seven Tonight
tonight there's some baseball. This most a Bucher a little
bit later on this hour, let's get you to the
weekend kind of recap. We do it with love and hate.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
What did you love?

Speaker 1 (01:19):
God? I love you and what did you hate?

Speaker 3 (01:22):
These player hay Is.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Let's start with Dan Byer, somebody you loved from the weekend.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Doug had a really nice weekend. Was able to work
on the golf game a little bit last night. Was
happy with the progress on the short game. I've had
some great neighborhood hangouts with the neighbor kids, playing with
our three year old, and he's absolutely loved it. He
got a haircut on Saturday and was it was not

(01:56):
a complete disaster, so that was awesome. But the number
one thing that I love this weekend was our guy
Jacob Stewart killing it at the World Series of Poker
in Las Vegas yesterday, a run that saw him last
eight hours in the tournament eight hours plus, doubled up
one time we heard at Queen's caught one on the flop,

(02:19):
ended up doubling up early in the tournament there. Really
awesome to see Jacob Stewart, the son of Jason Stewart,
who's not in today, have a great success at the
World Series of Poker, And honestly, it's great to see
how much Jason was wrapped up into it as well,
sending us pictures, giving us updates, throw out the afternoon,
and I had wondered if it was just going to

(02:39):
be all right, how long is he going to be
able to last in the tournament, and it's he's still
in it, still in it. It's got this much. Took
a little hit there, but yeah, lasted over eight hours
in the World Series of Poker yesterday. So I loved
what Jacob Stewart did in Vegas.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
I like that as well. Ryan Bershing or some of
you love from the weekend.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
Why had a nice weekend? Was that Disneyland yesterday? Good time?
Actually it was super hot, but it drove people away,
which was nice. So actually the crowds were very manageable,
even though it was it was very and after like
six pm, it was very comfortable out.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Did you see SpaceX there? I did, actually, yes, you
missed that last night. Yeah, a big deal in Southern California.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Saw I love those SpaceX nights nights. It was really cool.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Yeah, I think it was twenty satellites they sent out
and so yeah, you had the big cone shaped yes
vessel and I saw that over the over the in
Credit Coaster formerly California.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
You know, a buyer talk.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
You can see a little bit what it looked like
from our point of view as well on TikTok. That's
a buyer talk.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Yes, my favorite thing from the weekend, what I love,
and it really encapsulated the whole week that was for
shohe O Tani an incredible week. Six home runs over
the past week. He homered in both games against the
Angels over the weekend. Now good on the Angels. They
did take one to two from the Dodgers. So I
hold nothing against the Angels and and some people want

(04:00):
to make things out of like Otana, you know, playing
against the Angels for the first time. I don't think
it's that big of a deal. Angels fans have a
lot of reasons to be miserable, so I don't I
don't want to like kick them while they're down. They
got one attitude from the day.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
It's okay, Like I'm an Angel fan. Like I asked
myself all the time, like now I've become a Brewer fan,
had a good weekend, Like why why should we care?
They're they're terrible and the two best players in baseball
last year didn't do anything. Yeah, don't feel bad for Angel.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Okay, Okay, so yeah, six home runs. Four of those
home runs traveled over four to fifty feet. He's absolutely
destroying the ball and it's great to have in the
absence of Mookie Bets. He's he's really shined in that
leadoff spot. But my hate also comes from the Dodgers,
and that is they debuted their new City Connects on
Saturday night, and you know what, They're not as bad

(04:49):
as I had originally thought. They've kind of I've downgraded
them now seeing them in action, it's gone from bad
to just disappointing. There's there's much more they could have
done with these. You don't really see the weird like
pop Tart sprinkles in action, which the jerseys are kind
of speckled with. But I think what these these City

(05:12):
Connects really highlight is the importance of font and how
font can really make or break a baseball uniform.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Pont can make or break a lot of things.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
Yes, yes, right, And unfortunately with with these new do
yes exactly, the font is just too is too blockish
to the point where, especially with a lot of these
City Connects, when the font is just very plain like that,
it looks like, you know, stuff you can get at
a gas station, where it's just kind of generic gear

(05:42):
of the city that you're in. The Detroit has the
same problem. They're hats that just say Detroit looks like
you can get that at a gas station. I apparently
the font on the new Dodger City Connects is supposed
to harken back to their time at the Coliseum, but
nobody thinks that when they see these it just.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Looks First that came into my mind.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
I was like that, I think that's when they played
at the coliseum.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Have you play the Coliseum? Yeah, play the Colosseum.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
If you want to use an iconic block style font
from Los Angeles, why not use the Hollywood sign font?
You know, like they're there, there's something there that they
could have done. Overall, I think that there's unfortunately a
haphazard second attempt at these these city connect Dodger jerseys,
which I I really want to have a cool alternate Dodger.

(06:30):
I have all the blue ones. I have a couple
of blue jerseys with white lettering. The Dodgers never actually
wear those, but half of their fans do at every game.
I love those jerseys. So I'd like to see maybe
something like that. But no, We've got these City connects
now and it's just another thud from the City Connect program.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Okay, uh okay, Ryan Smith, would you love for the weekend?

Speaker 6 (06:59):
Well, well, as we all know, Iowa Sam loves Caitlin Clark.
I like Angel Reese. I honestly don't really care who
wins or loses, but I know how to get under
the skin of Iowa Sam. So guess what I was
doing when Caitlyn Clark lost on Sunday. I was blowing
his phone up. He blocked me on his phone. That's fine.

(07:19):
I sent him a tweet on Twitter or ex or
whatever you want to call it. He blocked me there,
So I went to Facebook messaged him on Facebook Messenger.
You can't hide from me, Sam, come catch this ale
Angel Reese all day. He blocked me on Facebook. But
that brings me pleasure. I'm a troll and I love it,
and that's what I loved about this weekend, Doug, the people.

(07:43):
Oh yeah, I love it, Yes, love it. Inject that
into my veins.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Did you watch like? This is not a this is
not a gotcha? Like did you watch the game? Because
I ended up watching it for like, you know, the
the second half.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I ended up both both of you.

Speaker 6 (07:57):
I was getting very aggravated because they were trying to
give that game away, make some free throws and the
game wouldn't have been that close to begin with.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
If you would have if you had to put a
shot chart of a backboard on a Leah Boston's attempted
game winner, it would be the blue in the American flag,
like that's where that's where the ball landed. It hit
the side and the last shot, yes, yeah, it was
all we're talking about the side of the backboard, not
baseline jumper that hits the side. Like it was so

(08:30):
off center that it just hit the left side of
the backboard and came completely down.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
And it was the right read per se.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
But yeah, yeah, they should call it. They should have
called it.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
I was gonna say a Leah Main, but that would
be north of Boston because it was just not on point.
It was not even close. I thought it was a
pretty good look too. I'm like, wow, this is going
in and then it just hit the backboard and went down.
So disappointing for Fever fans.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Yeah, it was Do they actually care?

Speaker 2 (09:02):
I'll say this.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
I I thought there would have been a lot of
Fever fans that were it was obviously a Chicago home game,
but there were a lot more. It was a you know,
predominantly Sky favored crowd, and I think I think.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I think most people though they're they're coming to see
the show and they don't really care about who wins
and who loses. You know, end of the game, he
gets competitive, you pick a side. But I think for
the most part, it's more about you know, it's it's
more about the other stuff to it, you know, so
you know, it's it's more about just Kaitlin Clark and

(09:37):
watch hers. They want to see her shoot from half court.
It's a little bit like little kids at a basketball camp.
But they just want to see guys dunk. You know,
they don't really care who's that good and they fall
in love with a guy. Who oh that guy dunked,
you know that's what little hello guy. I think a
lot of these fans are just fans of Kaitlin Clark
and they want to see her do something.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
It's a good game too. Yeah, Huh. She had a
good game.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
She had a very good game. Some great passes, they
had some big threes. They just lost. Uh. Thank I
love from the weekend.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
You had a great weekend, right though. Huh, you had
a great weekend.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
I had a great weekend. I actually really enjoyed recruiting
and was down Chicago on Friday and Appleton on Saturday
and Sunday, and I got a chance to see Kenny
Chesney and Zach Brown band on Saturday night, and then
Sunday had little family dinner with my staff and one
of my players. So it was a great weekend. But

(10:33):
sports wise, sports wise, I gotta tell you what I loved.
I loved Edwin Diaz getting getting caught with a sick,
sticky substance. It's like, I just love the fact that
dudes that cheat are going to cheat regardless and you
can't fix stupid, like the idea you didn't know you
were going to get caught. When as as uh Vica

(10:57):
Carl Paza, Vick Carpasa was the crew, He's like, we
do this thousands of times. It was fairly obvious to us.
It's fairly otoes to anybody. You just watch, like, what
did he stick his hand in some sort of gluey substance,
And of course it works, That's why you do it.
I just I love that. I love the guy. It's
it's like getting caught sticking a needle in your backside.

(11:19):
I mean, it's just so painfully obvious. Let's get to
what we hated, all right? So ja su I mean
duchess Jase Doo? Sorry, Dan Byro, what did you hate
for the weekend?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Doug?

Speaker 4 (11:37):
It was a great ending to the Travelers Championship, except
for the protesters that had to run into the eighteenth Green.
I understand protests, and I understand the meaning behind it.
It just completely put a buzzkill to the end of
the round, which Tom Kim ended up making his crucial

(11:57):
putt that he made. But as Scotti, Scheffler and Tom
Kim were approaching the eighteenth green in regulation they're seventy
second holes. Protesters who were protesting against oil were the
uh were running onto the green. They there were a
bunch of them. They had one guy who was like
trying to distract the police at first, so he ran

(12:18):
short of the green with like kind of like a
smoke bomb sort of thing, and then you had people
running onto the green. Somebody had some red powder that
they ended up having to clean up. They ended up
going into a playoff after Tom Kim made his putt,
but they had to cut a new hole because of
the work that they had to do on the green.
So it was it was a little crazy, but it

(12:40):
was a great ending. Scottie Scheffler ends up winning again.
But yeah, I just got really annoyed with the protesters
at the PGA Tour event this past weekend.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
I agree. I mean, the protesters who have nothing to
do with sports invading the sports landscape is just it's annoying.
You're not really helping your cause.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
I actually went out, I went out and bought a
dooley and was running it in the front yard all
after and long after I saw that.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
There was there was no one there at the golf
tournament that thought, you know what those people at a
point like like you know, like that was like it
just anything. If anybody you probably just changed their opinion
on it.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Seeing the way.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
They annoyed you you're like, what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yes, that doesn't fit this thing.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
You know. By the way, if you want to protest
oil stuff, you know, live golf is a is the
easier one to protest.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, it's fair enough.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Just just I don't know. I thought these were supposed
to be smart people, Ryan.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
Yeah, Unfortunately I jumped the gun a little bit. I
was so so eager to say to get my hate
out there. My hate was the the Dodger City Connects. No,
you love to hate them? Yeah, that was that was
where my passion unfortunately bled through. So yeah, again, the
those Dodger City Connects. I just wish they were better.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Okay, Yeah, the uniforms are kind of all sorry, the
hats are There's a lot going on there. I don't know, Like,
why are we trying to fix the Dodgers' uniforms. Yes,
they got to argue you the greatest utiform in sports,
like keep it simple, stupid?

Speaker 5 (14:11):
Yeah, they should have got The Yankees made the right choice.
They didn kN opped into the City connect program because
why mess with the Yankees Jerseys. I think the Dodger
should have done the.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Same the Yankees. The Yankees, some people would say, like
the Yankees are arrogant, and they're arrogant because they can be,
because they can be Ryan. Would your thing you hate, Well,
if you bring up one of the Star Wars movies.

Speaker 6 (14:34):
Up speaking of the live tournament, I wouldn't protest those
because allegedly they might they might, you know, toss you
in that of chemicals, so you might want to not
want to do that, obviously, I said, allegedly, allegedly allegedly
what I hated about this weekend. Back to your point,
Doug Edwin Diaz, I hate cheaters. One of the reasons
why I hate the Patriots, but I really really hate

(14:56):
bad cheaters. It was like, you know they're going to
check you and your hand, like was this covered in
whatever he was covered in? Like how stupid do you
have to be? I think he didn't even want to
pitch because like, you can't be that dumb.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
Why are you so stupid? That's what pissed me off.
But do you love cheaters? With Joey Greco? That show
was awesome? That show was great. There right now, they're
out of Wendy's drive through, parked in the back. We
can go get them if you would like. Actually I do,
I do that show is great.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
That show is awesome. That was an amazing show. That's
one of those like, man, I can't I'll bet like
most of us think that show is on the air
for like two seasons. It was probably on for like ten.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
Yeah it had to. He got stabbed in one of
the seasons on a boat.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I think.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Yeah, it's pretty crazy, but that show was great, Doug,
you're ready for this?

Speaker 5 (15:52):
Twenty two seasons of cheaters?

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Is it like.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Survivor when they did like two a year? So you
just like them up.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
They bring back some of the all stars.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
From the past.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
I hate where we are with this NBA draft because
I mean even for me, like I was looking and
some of it helps me make my point. Right, A
lot of these guys have climbed the draft boards have
done so because of their success in the NCAA tournament, Right,
Donovan Klingen some people think could go as high as one.

(16:28):
Stefan Castle could go top five. Reed Shepherd didn't have
a great NCAA tournament, only lasted one game, but he
did have a good season. So I like that guys
that had good seasons getting rewarded and the league paying
attention for such. But the fact that we can't name
half these guys even as basketball people, right like, Dan Byer,

(16:49):
can you think of a draft with less buzz in
the twenty plus years you've been working in the industry. No.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
And I'll also say this, I don't think that the
teams at the top help, like, you know, in terms
of building anything. Like, we don't think that Trey Young's
future is going to be in Atlanta and so like,
even of that, like, even if they were to get it,
you know, if it was a slightly better draft, I
just don't think that the team's you know, help.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, it's awful.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
It is not, it's really bad, right Like, And Atlanta
at one is fascinating because Atlanta normally thought of as
nobody cares about the NBA, they actually care. Now just
the one guy they care about, they're probably gonna trade,
yeah how about try. I blame them for one to
trade Trey Young, but in the business side of it,

(17:42):
you never trade Tree Young.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
I loved the NBA draft at one point, just.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Oh I didn't. Yeah, I mean, look, I made my
my career started really because of the NBA Draft In
two thousand and three. I had done a year of
local radio. A year of ESPN doing games, I went
back and played in France. But the two thousand and
three NBAT I played against Darko Milita twice. When I
was in Israel, he was with Hemil from Vrusick played

(18:07):
against him twice. So I became like the Darko expert,
knew all these foreign guys and high school guys.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
I love the NBA draft. I did it for a
decade plus on ESPN Radio, then did some for some
work for it when I was a CBS, and then
again since I've been at Fox. But I'm telling you unequivocally,
this is the worst in terms of It doesn't mean
that we're gonna produce all average or mid as. The
kids is playing, it's just nobody knows who they are.

(18:35):
This is a culmination of years and years of years
of the It actually is a lot like whether it's
like climate change or like like, look, at some point
we're gonna go dig in for lithium and we're not
gonna have any of it. I get it, Okay, this
is this is what happens. We had so depleted the

(18:55):
college game that we're searching for anybody in everyone who
can play, and it's just a bad year, man, just
a bad one. Don eight for the weekend.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Yeah, and Doug Iowa Sam, who's not even here today,
just chimed in, Sorry, I know, we've got the outro.
Apparently that was all that was all fake. The stabbing
of Joey Greco was staged, but uh so, still Cheaters
was awesome.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Cheaters was awesome. Blind Date was also a really good show. Obviously,
our a Steam producer Jason Stewart is out today. He
was on Blind Date, so that was another good one.
And then most of my college years in the cafeteria,
Jerry Springer was up there. Man, how good was Springer?
It was so bad that it made you feel no
matter how dysfunctional your family, and it was made you

(19:47):
feel like you had a tight, really cool family.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Thanks for listening to The Doug Gotleb Show podcast.

Three time pro bowler LeVar Arrington and I couldn't be
more excited to announce a podcast called Up on Game?

Speaker 2 (20:14):
What is Up on Game?

Speaker 8 (20:15):

Zada and Super Bowl champion Yup? That's right, Plexico Burds.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me LeVar Arrington, TJ. Huschman, Zada,

(20:37):
and Plexico Birds on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts from.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
All right' stuck Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Man, there's
so much that I need to get out of Rick
fe Chris. Let's just bring him in. Rick Viever joint
just Fox Sports one h Foxsports dot Com, NBA Insider.
He joins us in the Doug Gottlieb Show here on
Fox Sports Radio. What's the league's reaction been to JJ

(21:08):
finally being hired?

Speaker 3 (21:11):
People, Well, people are looking at it two ways. One
that the reason that he got it is because of
his relationship with Lebron and the idea that he has
a certain look that they can play into him being
the next pat Riley, and then they appreciate, they appreciate
the thinking that this JJ does and his approach to

(21:35):
the game, but they also have someone who is going
to be amenable to working with all of the people
that they have in the front office and all the
ideas that come out of there. So and he was
at the right price. I mean, eight million per is
four million less than he was making the last time
he played, and it is below average for a head

(21:59):
coach in the league right now, So the price is
right and and by all account, but the impression I
get is that the front office is also going to
have a lot of influence on who his coaching staff
is going to be. And that was something aside from
the money that Dan Hurley wasn't wasn't willing to listen to.

(22:20):
And so my what I've been told is some of
the names that I've heard Rajon Rondo, potentially Scottie Brooks.
I had heard Jared Dudley, but I haven't been able
to confirm that, And last time I heard from Dudley
he had not received a call yet. So it appears
it's going to be an interesting staff and not necessarily

(22:43):
a staff loaded with prior head coaches. I thought that
Duane Cracy might be in the mix, but I have
not heard directly that that that that that's the case.
We'll see where it goes, but I think it was
the bottom line is it's because JJ was was readily

(23:06):
amenable to working with the Laker's front office.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
So one of the reasons they didn't get Danny Earley
was they wanted to dictate who his staff was.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
There was I think there were certain guys that Danny
wanted on his staff that that they weren't necessarily open
to having. And then and and honestly, I don't know what.
I don't want to put too much on that. I
know that they wanted to have some input on who
was on his staff, but they didn't get that far

(23:35):
down the road with that because the money wasn't close
to being good enough for him to make the jump.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Soug got leave show here on Fox Sports, right Kenny
Atkinson his hiring. What does it mean in Cleveland?

Speaker 3 (23:48):
It means that if there was a failing for JB.
Bicker staff, it was that he wasn't as analytically driven
as the front office might have wanted. A Kobe might
have wanted him uh to be and that's what they're
going to get in uh In Atkinson. Certainly, Kenny's you know,

(24:11):
Kenny's major influences on the defensive side of the side
of the ball. JV did a pretty good job there.
I think it's a matter of just they they feel
like analytics could be a bigger part of what they're
doing and and Atkinson fits that.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Okay, So what does it mean for their personnel? Uh,
fair question.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
I mean my understanding is that you know that that
Donovan Mitchell's relationship with JAV was one of the things
that prompted them to make a change where they go
with Darius Garland and and Evan Mobley. We've heard Darius
Garland's name out there, you know, the the the plan

(24:58):
is to build around Donovan Mitchell and to do what's
necessary to make that happen. The interesting part for me
is the general feeling around the Belague by the scouts
that I talk to that if Evan Mobley had sort
of the drop off but hasn't evolved the way it
is in hoped or expected, it's because he plays better

(25:20):
when the ball is in Darius's hands than when it's
in Donovan's hands. And the other part for me is
like I still haven't heard that, like definitively that Donovan
is all in on being in Cleveland. So they're going
forward with the idea that they want Donovan to be
that guy. But I've yet to hear that he's he's

(25:46):
of the same mind that he's has committed to Cleveland
as Cleveland is to him.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Sure. Sure, Doug Gottlig show here on Fox Sports Radio,
White Money Williams get fired? I'm sorry, Well again, broke,
did Monnie Williams get fired?

Speaker 3 (26:05):
One? It was it was a bad fit from the start.
I mean that that was a case where they they
they gave many more money than he could turn down.
But he's much better with betteran players than he is
with in a in a rebuilt situation. Is obviously Detroit is.
And then Trason Langdon just came in and had the

(26:26):
opportunity to say, I am going to do this the
way that I want to do it, and and they
were willing. Ownership was willing to eat the money. And
so that's you have a new sheriff in town, and
he decided that he wants to have his own guy there,
and I just honestly, I don't know how committed Monty

(26:51):
was to the job at hands. I think it was
really was a case where it was like it was
an offer too good to refuse. He had to take it, but.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
It just was I.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Don't disagree with with making the move because I thought
it was a bad fit from the beginning.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Oh I did do If you want to write the
sixty five million dollars Jack, fine, fine, you know, okay,
I won't work for that. Like, there's no tear shed here.
So what do they do? What is what does Trajan
Ling didn't do?

Speaker 3 (27:24):
In terms of re going out and getting a coach.
It's going to be better going out.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
And getting a coach. And you know what is the plan?
I mean, because it's just it's been bad.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean that. Look, there's a lot
of work to be done there in terms of the roster.
Obviously you got a lot of I got the feeling
that Troy Weaver was trying to dig while everybody's zagging,
that he was trying to load up on bigs, whether

(27:54):
it was using them as trade bait to get the
roster that he wanted or simply it was like we're
gonna go big. We're gonna play big, We're gonna we're
gonna put a wrinkle in this and make everybody adjust
to us. And it never it never quite worked out.
I mean, Tracey's got a lot of work to do,
and I don't I don't know what his what his

(28:18):
mission statement is at this point, I haven't heard that
he has a particular mission statement. So that's really going
to dictate how the roster is built and who he gets,
who he gets to tou to be his slow general.
And I just I wish I could tell you specifically
what the plan is, but I don't know what at
this point. Honestly, honestly, I thought that JJ going there

(28:43):
would have made a lot more sense because he could
have got his his his coaching chops. People are going
to pay attention to Detroit. The bar is not set
very high. Obviously, he and Trason have a have a
relationship that would have maybe that would have made more
sense for all concerns in my mind.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
I agree. Okay, so now the Lakers hire JJ Reddick
circle back to that. Yeah, and we can say Lebron
didn't have any saying or whatever, but they're not hiring
JJ Reddick. Unless the plan was to have Lebron James
play for JJ. Sure, where does that leave Ronnie James.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
I don't know that the plan has changed it all
in terms of going and getting him, whether it's with
the fifty fifth pick or as an undrafted free agent,
if they can manipulate that. I mean, this whole thing
is mind boggling to me that Rich Paul is saying, well,
we won't accept the two way contract and that Ronnie's

(29:49):
only worked out as far as I know to this
point unless something's changed for the Suns and the Lakers.
I've never seen a late second round pick operating this way,
and and what it tells me is there's they're already

(30:10):
locked in to him being a Laker, because otherwise, if
if it's Brownie really not being interested or committed to
playing with his dad, then you find how then you
would look to what's the best team that I can
play for the best situation that I can find. And

(30:32):
the only way you do that when you're a late
second round pick is that you work out for as
many people as possible, because it's not only information gathering
for them, but it's information gathering for you and they're
not taking that approach, So it can only be one thing,
which is it's already sort of worked out that he's

(30:54):
going to be a Laker at some point, and it's
just a matter.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
Of when agreed. Like the the rich fall, I get
that agents are just you know, they're trying to be
mouthpieces to help their help their clients. But I mean
some of this stuff has been so laughable, laughably.

Speaker 3 (31:12):
False and and and generally that happens with players whose
talent gives them leverage, and then you can, you can
you can try to leverage it a little bit more.
But look, Briannie's Brannie is a good kid. I think
that he can he can make it as an NBA player,

(31:34):
But but but the jury is definitely out. And when
we say make it, I'm talking about like will he
can he can he make a roster and can he
get some minutes? That's that's the level the.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Say you don't want to tow a is. I mean,
it's laughable.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
And why because I mean he's he's one year, he
didn't start, he didn't play a whole lot of college,
he didn't really have a dominant role in high school.
If I were him, I would want to play G League,
or at least have the opportunity to play as much
as possible, even if it meant going down to the
G League and getting game experience. So the whole idea

(32:16):
behind that we're not going to do a two way
is you're not going to send You're not going to
send them down to the G League, I think, and
I've seen plenty of guys his build, of his size
who have benefited from it.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
No question about it. That's why the G League exists.
He's Rick Buker. Check him out Foxsports dot Com and
Fox Sports One is the best. Thanks so much for

get the damn byer with the press, the press, Danny B.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
What do you got, my friend, Doug.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
I just want to quick do a little PSA, a
score update, and for anybody that may be recording the
matches on Fox and Fox Sports one, a little spoiler alert.
But I do want to keep you updated of what's
happening right now because Euro twenty twenty four Group B
and knockout stage alive Mint if you will, is on
the line. Here's your quick spoiler, so turn away for

(34:00):
twenty seconds if you don't want to know. But right
now Spain is leading Albania one nil. Ninetieth minute, Spain
was moving on Albania head outside hopes to move on
to the knockout stage.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
That's not likely to happen.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
But right now, in the ninetieth minute, Croatia continues to
lead Italy one nil. If this result holds, Croatia would
advance to the next round. Italy's going to need a
late goal here to be able to try to advance
to the round of sixteen. That is the latest from
Euro twenty twenty four matches on Fox and Fox Sports
One right now.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
Incredibly classy thing that Dan Byer just did. He did
the hey, I'm giving you a heads up, which reminds
me of my late father who used to walk in
and announce, don't anybody tell me what's going on with
the eurold gurout like he wouldn't be soccer, but he would.
He would throw it out there that he's recording the game,
doing it but for good reason because people just not

(34:49):
knowing would share, like you see the game. Can you
believe that happened? Right?

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (34:53):
Absolutely, I think I did this. You mentioned this in
one of our group texts. I had to step out
for the NBA Finals. Yes, for the second half in
one of the games, so I said, guys, I'm recording it,
so don't ruin anything. It was the Mavericks who ruined
every singly. It's absolutely what you're supposed to do. Yes,
on both sides.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
It's hard.

Speaker 6 (35:10):
One.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Remember, like you're super excited about a game, you gotta
walk in and be like, hey, and now look, if the
game is on on the TV and somebody's staring at
their phone, that's their fault. They didn't pay attention. But
if you're like playing golf and you saw something and
they didn't, you got to go like, hey, do you
want to know the score? Are you recording it?

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (35:28):
And I just think it's the kind thing to do
and kind to our friends at Fox or people who
maybe at work and not able to see the match.
But anyway, let's go on to the other happenings. What
a big day in sports. Game seven Stanley Cup Final tonight.
I mentioned it throughout the day, Doug, But for those
that have missed it, the Oilers going for history tonight,
But they wouldn't be the first team to rally from

(35:49):
a three to zero deficit to win the Stanley Cup. Instead,
they would become the second team if they were to
win tonight against the Panthers in Florida. The nineteen forty
two Maple Leafs did it against the Red Wings. Would
be the fifth time in NHL history that a team
came back from a three to zero deficit. Most recently,
it was in twenty fourteen, a decade ago, when the
Kings rallied from a three to zero deficit to beat

(36:11):
the Sharks four games to three, and the Kings went
on to win their second Stanley Cup in three seasons
that year. So this wouldn't be a first in in
the NHL, and not even a first in the Stanley
Cup final, but it sure would be history tonight if
Edmonton were to win.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
JJ. You're gonna watch, yes so much. Yeah, I'm gonna watch.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
I like watching historic things. Yes, I think I like
watching hockey. I just I don't. It's like, I don't.
I just don't want to be fake with people like
oh I watch hockey all the time, you know, I'm
like not, I don't want my band was not. But
I mean it's exciting. My one issue with hockey and
soccer's got a little bit of this is sometimes the goals,
the game winning goals are very random, right, deflected, deflected, deflected,

(36:51):
And look there's some randomness to basketball as well, but
volume of scoring it's not as much. I just you know,
like you fight all that time, three periods and you
get to overtime and somebody deflects one off of stick
And I know, like that it's an art to deflecting
up a stick, But I just feel like sometimes there's
a randomness to who wins these things, now doesn't.

Speaker 4 (37:11):
JJ Reddick is officially the new head coach of the
Los Angeles Lakers, being introduced as we speak at a
press conference in LA.

Speaker 7 (37:19):
The game is evolving, and one of the things in
coaching that I think you have to be is adaptable.
You have to be adaptable to your roster. You have
to be adaptable in game planning against your opponent. And
that's one of the things I really will strive to be.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
I like that adaptability. Adaptability is key. Love that.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
And he also he also knows about Laker fans.

Speaker 7 (37:46):
Sitting in this seat, I know what the expectations are.
Lakers fans have some of the most passionate fans around
the world, and the expectation is a championship. And so
it's my job, it's our staffs job, it's Rob's job,
all of us to deliver a championship caliber team.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
Yep, I mean yep, yeah, Listen, we said this earlier
in regards to Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy, Like, you
didn't know that Jerry Jones is gonna be a pain
in the ass. Were you not paying attention? It's like
the Jander you didn't know. You don't have to clean
out toilets. And if you're gonna, if you're gonna coach
the Lakers with Lebron James, they that it doesn't matter

(38:29):
what's you're really capable of. Laker fans expect to win
championships or compet for championships every year, especially when you
have Lebron James. It doesn't matter if he's forty or
fifty or sixty. He's Lebron. He's wearing a Laker uniform.
Did the Lakers? They think they're supposed to win every time,
So you gotta know that. Why would you hide from that?

(38:50):
That's great?

Speaker 4 (38:51):
The San Francisco forty nine Ers and disgruntled wide receiver
Brandon Ayuk reportedly will meet. That's according to ESPN's Ryan Clark.
Are you coinning a new deal? Of course, last week
there was the TikTok video saying that the Niners didn't
want him, but i Uk and the Niners apparently going
to be meeting today.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
Remarkably, they'll come to some agreement where he's going to
play this year because he doesn't actually have any sort
of leverage in this thing.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
And Doug, the Stanley Cup Final not the only game
tonight for all the marbles. College World Series down to
a game three. Tennessee and Texas A and M series
tied up at a game a piece. Seven o'clock Eastern
time in Omaha. Valls are aggies for college baseball's national championship.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
The colt or the Balls. Huh, I mean, can't I
mean Tennessee Orange. Pretty awesome, yes, but then our boy
Klay Travis wins of Tennessee wins. It's a tough one.
And that's it for the press. Doug gotleep Show here
