fun one. Daniel Jeremiah will join us in five minutes

Mess upcoming in the meantime. Every Wednesday, we like to
(01:11):
do this middle of the day, middle of the show,
middle of the week.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
We call it the Midway. He's not getting.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
It's time for the.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Midway, all right? Midway? Who suggested this?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Because this is a good one, as we've all come
to kind of a conclusion and agreement on it, which
doesn't usually happen in the group text. So it's like
a couple ideas we can talk about it on air.
Whose idea was most notable, I think it was jayse Steu.
You're really into this Davante Adams raider situation.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Yeah, And I'm glad you brought that up, Doug, because
over the past ninety minutes of recording content with you,
I've sensed a little bit of skepticism that there is
an actual rift between Antonio Pears and DeVante Adams. So
I said, text messages to a person that's very well
sourced with the team, and to quote the source, I
(02:10):
know you that one is he and Pierce have been
growing further apart for months. I said, when did they
start disliking each other most? And he said probably training camp.
Then you put the public knowledge that we know the
liked social media post, the business decisions, the phantom injury.
(02:38):
I think it's pretty easy, and I could be wrong.
I'll leave myself an out, but I could be wrong
that there's a rift between these two guys. And I
thought to myself, what are some of the most notable
star player coach blow ups?
Speaker 1 (02:55):
I mean, come on, the three Wells, the most known one, right.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Yeah, I'd say choking your coach would fall into this category.
That's a good one. Yeah, yeah, I thought it was
a good one too.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Ahead.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
You guys remember Jim Leland going off on Barry Bonds
sure spring training nineteen ninety one or ninety two. It
was like the height of Barry Bonds's belligerents, like he
put together MVP seasons and Jim Leland just put him
(03:29):
in his place during a spring training practice. And like,
looking back and knowing how things played out with Barry Bonds,
I appreciate that exchange much more. And I think Jim
Leland's got a huge brass pair of nads.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Okay, Jay Stu, Yeah, I have another one.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I was sorry, Dan, Sorry, he's got another one.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Go ahead, if you got all save on, we'll go okay, right,
not one, all right? The one The rivalry of me
and my voice was one of the top ones.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
Hear that battle for you. We were genuinely concerned about you.
I was generally concerned about myself, to be honest with you.
But then times that tickle can be the most debilitating thing,
like it can just take over like a like a cramp.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Yeah, yeah, who knows how to do a homeworker. It
would scare me to death to have to do the
homework to someone.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
I don't think it's so much.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
It's like it's more like you just have this little
like tickle something in your throat and it's just you
can't talk. You have to just get cleared. It's not
like you're choking on something. You're just something is in
there and it's like taking over. It's like it's like
a spasm or cramp. So I was able to rebound
after a little break. But I don't know if the
relationship between Stan ban Gundhi and Dwight Howard ever rebounded.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Oh yeah, that was a good one.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
But that confrontation when yeah, when Stan was telling reporters
that Dwhite went to the front office and ownership and
wanted to be fired or wanted him fired, and then
Dwight Howard came over as Stan just said it twenty
seconds earlier and was like, hey, you know, we're on
the same team, the whole deal, Like you're just telling
(05:14):
these people all this nonsense. It was so awkward, but
it was so great, so great. Then Stan ducked out, like,
all right, I'll let you guys talk to him. All right,
I'll talk to you later.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
What your twenty fourteen, twenty thirteen?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
U probably after that a little bit.
Speaker 7 (05:32):
Yeah, I can't remember the year.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Him and Nash went to the Lakers in twenty four fifteen?
Was it? Remember when Nash was supposed to make this
huge impression on the Lakers and he never had.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Play played like a couple of games, did you play
any games?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
They paid him a lot to not play for the
next couple of years.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Now he's getting paid to that coach. What what he
got there?
Speaker 6 (05:56):
Sammy, Well, when I was thinking about this list, or
thinking about instances over time of coaches and players, or
coaches or players and organizations having a fallout, this is
not my main one.
Speaker 7 (06:08):
I will get to my main one.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
But as being a Packer fan, I feel like the
last five to seven years of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay,
there was a lot of code talk there's a lot
of you know, coldness from Aaron towards the organization, whether
that was McCarthy or Matt Lafleur. I feel, you know,
that just went on for years and finally he was
(06:29):
traded when he was like, you know, they lost the
Lions in their final game, his final game at Lambeau
and then it was over with. But it felt for
like a long time, for like a half a decade.
It was just like a cold relationship between the upper
brass or the brass of the Packers and Aaron Rodgers.
But my main one is this, I think this is
a really good one oh two for one deal here.
This man has had to fall out with three different organizations,
(06:52):
and that would be Antonio Brown. Oh yeah, with the Buccaneers,
with the Raiders, and with the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
And one with Gruden was the best, right.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
I think it was because you get you get the
feet thing, the helmet issue he had an issue with,
like I think he had a bun with the Buccaneers,
he had like a bad ankle or bump foot, and
they wanted him to get out there and catch more balls,
and that's when he like stripped down and ran off
the field.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
But what got him run out of Oakland was do
you remember he posted on social media without permission a
conversation with John Gruden he published, like either the voicemail
or the actual conversation. I mean, that's a dirty pool
and that's dirty.
Speaker 6 (07:36):
Didn't you get into trouble with Mike Tomlin the Steelers
for doing like Facebook live or something during a locker
room in r and you know, he thought it was
funny and you know whatever, and then they were just like, Okay,
this is this is getting ridiculous. And did he even
play for the rate? Like did he even play a game?
Because he was such and you were, you know, Doug,
you were talking about early in the show, how you
(07:57):
know the stability of certain organizations And when you have
a guy like Antonio Brown come to the Raiders being
who they are and he can't even suit up for
them for one game and he's gone, that just shows
you kind of the dysfunction of Antonio Brown.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
No question, everything that travels with him as well. It's
a very good call. I got a couple.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I mean, people forget that Larry Bird got Babil Fitch
fired right, and.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Magic Johnson got Paul Westfall. But west Head fired.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Lebron's gotten many a coach fired, Kobe Gott, David David,
this is everybody except for Spolster, right well, he wanted
for Spolster fired. That was that's the old stories that
he wanted Spolster fired.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
And PA was like, no, So I.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Want to say more details have come out about that
in recent months, right yes, like exactly what Lebron wanted
or something, and I forget what the details are about.
That's a good one. The Magic John something with west
Head as it played out on Winning Time, which.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Of course, which of course a fictional TV show based
upon some things in a true story.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
So let's quote it, but go ahead. I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Winning Time ended after season two, Winning Time ended. The
final Winning Time episode ever in the history of the
two season series. Is the Lakers losing to the Celtics
in the eighty four NBA Championship or was it eighty six? No,
it was eighty four, eighty four. And I'm thinking, if
(09:32):
you're going to call a series Winning Time based on
this amazing Laker team, how could you end your series
with them losing? There's a horrible editorial.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Fit point, dork the fit point, I have more. I
mean there's so many more of guys that couldn't stand.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
I'm go ahead, yeah, no, I just want to slide
this in because it could be winning time for the Tigers.
Parker Meadows just hit a solo home run, Tigers have
taken a one to nothing lead on the Astros, and
the sixth inning in Houston.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
We're gonna have a lot of Parkers and Aiden's.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
I think, what a great name.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
And Parker's Aiden's Peyton's over the next kind of ten
fifteen years, a lot of Kobe's as well.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
I wonder if it listens to Inside the Parker.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
With ah oh big podcast.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
In the Parker Meadows, no Midway, what about Billy Martin
and Reggie Jackson. Sure kind of like the Barry Bonds
Jim Wheeland thing, but this played out on an actual game,
live in a game, Reggie Jackson did not hustle for
(10:39):
a ball, and in the middle of an inning, Billy
Martin pulled the most popular player in the game from
the game. He says, we're replacing you because you dogged
it in the middle of an inning, and Reggie Jackson,
by looking at the footage, looked like he wanted to
tear Billy Martin's head off. Imagine if something like that
(11:00):
and today, how how how much coverage would that get
on social media?
Speaker 1 (11:07):
A lot? A lot?
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Hmm, Doug, how about this one?
Speaker 6 (11:15):
And you let me know from like a historical point
of view, significant of this because I was a little
too young to sort of take us all in, but
more of a coach and a school Bobby Knight in Indiana.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Well, it's Bobby Knight.
Speaker 7 (11:27):
Is Bobby Knight ugly fallout?
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Right?
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
I mean he had supposedly a no tolerance policy and
then some some college kid walked by him said.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Hey Knight, and he like grabbed a kid.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
But I mean Bob Knight had confrontations, right, Neil Reid,
he choked in practice, and Mike Lewis, who ended up
coaching with him and now is head coach at Ball State.
Like there's a Google Mike Lewis Bob Knight on the
sidelines where you know where Knight like grabs him and
tries to you know, knock some you know, push some
sense into him, and Michael Lewis is just super focused
(12:03):
at the time. Gosh, so many.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Was back to Bob Knight. It was the chair flinging
across the court. Was that in like the year two?
Thing was that towards the end? No, No, that was
way earlier.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
I gotcha, gotcha.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
That was where Eli and that was directed towards the officials,
right right, Okay, not towards a Purdue player who was
shooting a technical technical free throw.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
So now, uh anybody else?
Speaker 6 (12:31):
How about uh? How about Tarrell Owens and every team
he's played on too? We talk about diva wide receiver US.
I mean, you know, it's been an ugly kind of
fallout from you know, even Philly, uh, San Francisco, Dallas,
and I.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Mean a lot Chatto just sinko struggle with Belichick. If
you remember, right, I couldn't remember where he's supposed to
line up.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
That was a smart move for Chadow at the end
of his career to pick a fight with the greatest.
Speaker 7 (12:59):
Go Trevor, you think.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
That means I want to get cut and so that
so that that's so that does.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
I'll give you one off the board a little bit, okay,
because it's it kind of fits, but it doesn't fit
because it's okay, let's just go Mikeman against Warren Sap
When Mike Sherman was the head coach of the Packers
and Warren Sapp was obviously member of the Buccaneers. Both
(13:29):
teams are good in the NFC at the time, but
Warren Sapp took a cheap shot on a Packer lineman,
a cheap shot that Sherman thought and Sherman postgame handshake
like address.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
His sap and then sat. It's like, you know, like
what do you want to be? What do you want
to do? You want to you want to go? You
want to go? Yeah, it was.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Wait, wait, wait forgot one. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Just
when you were talking about that, Tony, was it Tony
Kuk coach and Phil Jackson?
Speaker 5 (14:01):
Right?
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Why not Tony coaches Scotty Scotti Pippen and Phil Johnson
when Tony Kouk coach took the shot because the play
was drawn up for him, not for Scottie Pippen, and
Scotty Pippen acted like a baby because of it. We
do remember that, I mean, that's the last dance. It
was actually I was having dinner with some friends last
night and they were like, what did you do during COVID.
I was like, we talked about the last dance and
Tom Brady leaving New England and I don't remember what
(14:24):
else we talked about, but we sure got a lot
of mileage out of those two things.
Speaker 7 (14:29):
I mean, Brady and Belchick.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
That that that ended poorly too.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah, I don't know if it ended for it was
like a blow up.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
It didn't get No, it wasn't a blow up, but cool.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
We were discussing if you look at your text, the
tech said notable.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Player coach blow ups.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
It was like a slowly moving degradation. How about next
week we do memorable slowly moving degradations.
Speaker 6 (14:59):
An odd character guys Rogers and the Packers is that
that same way too? Just but with a lot of
Rogers just being and far far to absolutely absolutely, Green
Bay seems like a wonderful home and you're you're you
can stay there a long time. But so you know,
some of these quarterbacks they're eventually they they want out.
(15:20):
I'm a Packer fan, yeah.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
But you were wavering at being a Niners fan last year,
right for a little bit.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Man, When when brock Party puts up three h five
and three touchdowns no picks, I'm I'm all, I'm all
for those Niners.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
Throw one of those touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
George Kittle Why can't you just be a brock I
guess because George. They had George killed too. You can't
just be a brock party in it.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
I'm not.
Speaker 6 (15:42):
I do like those guys, but I don't know. I
just love watching the Niners run their offense. It's so smooth,
like when it's humming and all cylinders. It's so smooth
and so like well coached and just they just hit
their blocks so cleanly, and they run through big, gaping
holes and it's just a joy to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Joyous football We've done. We've done some baseball, done some basketball.
He done some football, any other I have no idea.
Is there any any hockey ones?
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Boy?
Speaker 4 (16:14):
All right, I think that's our sign once we started
talking about a hockey.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Okay, here's the question, Jason, without looking, how many of
the teams in the hockey playoffs?
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Can you name.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
The hockey playoff's going on right now?
Speaker 8 (16:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (16:29):
The Stanley Cup Finals, I think, Yeah. I think the
Tampa Bay White and in are in it right now.
They're just played at sign.
Speaker 7 (16:37):
Season isn't started. You're talking about w NBA. Is that
what you mean?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
No, I'm just messing with Jason, that's all.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
I think it was that one team that when the
puck got around the goal, they just keep kept cutting
on the eyes until the puck randomly went in. I
think that team won the Stanley Cup.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
I do remember when Patrick Waugh was leaving my real
it was not on good terms. And then he was
yelling at the bench when he they like left him
in the game because he was getting lit up and
they I don't know they he was mad that they
pulled them or he was mad that they left them in,
but it was a lot going on.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Yeah, I remember me and my buddies were like more
like Patrick.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
Right, that's.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
And that is uh, thankfully the end of the midway.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Midway. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR
to listen live.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Sports radio at Stuck Gollip Show Fox Sports Radio. Oh,
Daniel Jeremiah is going to join us up coming in
a second.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
H I'm.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Danie Jeremi is going to join us in second. Obviously
he's very very close with some of the guys in
the front office of the Jets. I just I wonder
obviously people have been talking about Aaron Rodgers and his
relationship with Robert sala Here's Aaron Rodgers on the Pat
McAfee show talking about that relationship.
Speaker 9 (18:16):
I don't get into what the conversation is going on
outside the building around myself. The relationships that I have,
the most important ones are looking a guy in the
eye in the locker room or in the meeting room
and knowing, you know, he's got your back, you get
his back. Rob and I have a great relationship. We
have since day one when I got here. You know,
we have text message conversations, threads that were in conversations
(18:37):
about a number of different topics outside of football.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
We got to get friendship, all right.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
So says they got a good friendship, don't worry about
no big deal. All that stuff that was before was
just palaver. Let's bring in Daniel Jeremiah and he joins
us on the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
So you know, the back and forth. I don't know
how much listeners know. I don't want to assume that
they do. They had five false starts this past weekend. Afterwards,
Robert Salas, you know, said hey, look, you know it's
(19:05):
something maybe we got to look at, and then Caden,
excuse me, the cadence is something we maybe got to
look at, and then Aaron Rodgers like or maybe we
could hold them accountable. And then yesterday I believe it was,
or maybe it was Monday, Salah came back and said, hey,
it's not the not the cadence, but the uh, the
operation getting place in now the huddle, which then goes
(19:26):
directly at the offensive Quitner, who, by the way, is
very close friends with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
So let me ask you, DJ, what do you think
of that relationship.
Speaker 10 (19:35):
Well, I mean, I haven't talked to anybody in that
building since right before the draft, so I haven't heard
anything in terms of what that's like, you know, from
a source, but just from the outside, what it looks
like is that the pressure is cranked up to an
eleven right now, and that's not great when we're only
you know, four games end of the season and you're
(19:56):
having those conversations and blamed getting a sign So h
it is uh, it is definitely uh something that needs
to get cleaned up. I've always been a believer that
coaching does matter in terms of penalties. I know people
have different thoughts on that. I think it's what you message,
it's what you emphasize. I think that has a major impact.
I've just been around teams that had major penalty issues.
(20:18):
Coaching change and uh and and dramatically it got fixed.
I mean you can watch. You know a great example
of that, Doug is watch watch USC on defense this
year compared to last year. I've seen in years past
where guys hitting people out of bounds, celebrating over players,
just stupid offside penalties at the wrong time. And Danton
(20:41):
Lynn comes in there in year one and you watch them.
I mean, they're not perfect, but man, those those concentration
penalties and those poyees penalties, they're not happening at USC.
And that's the that's a credit to their coach.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
That's a great point, Daniel Jeremiah, are you coaching or
allowing Daniel Jeremiah joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show
here on Box Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Okay, let's let's get around in the league a little bit.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
I'm super interest with Trevor Lawrence. What's going on there.
Speaker 10 (21:13):
He's just missing throws. I mean, I I don't think
he's seeing it great, But like when when you watch
guys quarterbacks are struggling, usually it's okay, it's the pressure.
They don't have guys separating. He's not throwing it anticipation. Uh,
you know that. You can go through a whole list
of stuff. When I watch that tape, it's just he's
(21:35):
even in a clean pocket, He's just missing throws. And
I couldn't pinpoint it from a mechanical standpoint. He just
flat out missing. So that's an enigma for me. I
don't know how you how you fix that, how you
solve that. I don't know if it's a confidence thing
or what. But you know, Brian Thomas Junior, that rookie
receiver is really good and he's open on darn near
(21:55):
every play. But just you watch him and even when
he's got things available to him, he's just not throwing
the ball accurately. It's bizarre. He was not like that
at Clemson.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
No, he was. That's why I asked, it's weird.
Speaker 10 (22:10):
I don't know. I don't know how you. I don't
know how you figure that one out. But it's like,
and I don't want to say he's got the yips,
but it's just he's missing throws. That he's never should
be missing.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Nope, nope, DeVante Adams. What happened there with that relationship
with his head coach.
Speaker 10 (22:28):
I don't know. I think it's hard for a player
as you get older, but you're not the same guy.
But the expectations don't change. So I mean, look, they
don't they're not great at quarterback. They don't have their
quarterback in the future on that roster, and I'm sure
that's led us some frustration there and that's and that's
kind of bubbled up. But I don't think Devanta Adams
(22:48):
is the same guy he was two or three years
ago either, So I understand when when it came out
that you know, they might be talking to people or
potentially he could get traded. I'm sitting there going, well,
I'm a believer in timelines, and this is he doesn't
match with their timeline. I think his window is very short,
and I think that they are not yet into their
winning window. It makes way too much sense to trade
(23:11):
him if you can find somebody willing to take it on.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
No question.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I mean, the obviously need a quarterback next year anyway,
and then you're gonna be work working with a likely
a rookie quarterback Minnesota continues on is there a point
to where Sam Donald is the guy and they think
differently about JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 10 (23:32):
I was having this conversation with someone the other day
inside the league, and he was saying, you know, well,
you know Sam Donald, maybe he's you know, he could
go back to New York, except go to the Giants
maybe after this year, or you know, different places that
he could go. And I'm sitting here going, well, why
would Minnesota allow him to leave? I mean, you you
can hope that you've got something in JJ McCarthy, and
(23:54):
he's younger and cheaper and all that. I get it,
But if Sam continues to play like this, he's still
younger than Brock Perdy. Have Jay Stu fact check me
on that. But he's still so young and now you
get a chance to prove yourself in that system and
they keep rolling like this, I'd be more inclined to
say I'm gonna I'm gonna franchise Sam and roll through
(24:16):
another year and then at that point in time make
a decision. But I would be in a hurry to
h usher in the JJ McCarthy era. If Sam keeps
playing like he's playing.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
How long is a leash on Will Levis? We saw
Mason Rudolph come in and get to win Levis spraining
his shoulder. But he's just he's had some of these picks,
which anybody, I mean, obviously you got a new head
coach in Callahan who didn't draft him.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Everybody seems to be rolling their eyes there. Well, what
do you think the leash just like there?
Speaker 10 (24:41):
Well, the defense is really good, excellent. Bernard Wilson's done
a phenomenal job on the on the defensive side of
the ball. So I think they could be sitting there
in Callahan could be there saying, hey, this.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Is not.
Speaker 10 (24:56):
This is not a situation where we have to go
for the ups and downs with Will Levis. We're not
married to him. You know where he was picked, but
he's there's just a calmness that he's lacking at this
point in time. And I don't know that you have
the investment from a coaching staff with him that they'd
be willing to ride the roller coaster when they're sitting there, Hey,
look we got this other guy who's a veteran who's
(25:18):
just more common poise and with our defense shooting, we
could be a playoff team if we just get Mason
Rudolph to you know, keep playing like he's playing. I
don't think that Will Levis has the same leash as
someone like an Anthony Richardson would have. I think there's
more of an organizational commitment coaching staff, front office to
someone like Anthony Richardson to ride that roller coaster. I
don't know that that's the case there with Will Levis.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Do you think there's an organizational commitment to justin fields
in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 10 (25:45):
I think that's too early. I think he's done some
good things. I think he's playing the best football of
his career. I you know, I still think, you know,
they want to see this offense get on tracked and
and be more consistent. But I think he's if I
think he's he's played well, and I don't think he's
done anything to lose that job. But I also don't
(26:06):
think it's been so lights out that they would that
they'd been making, you know, a longer term commitment at
this point in time.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Doug Gottlieb Show here on Fox Sports Radio, that's the
the voice of Daniel Jeremiah. Of course you hear him
on the move the sticks podcast on the NFL Network
and obviously calls the La Charger games as well. You know, look,
I understand all the focuses on quarterback, and I know
Denver won this past weekend, But is there a point
(26:36):
where whatever Sean Payton is doing has aged and the
league has passed him by?
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Is that is that possible?
Speaker 10 (26:46):
I think that's you know, I mean, that's too strong
at this point in time. They played the monsoon this
last week, so I'm not going to I'm not going
to hold that against you know, bow Knicks and Sean
Payton and their offense or defense with lights out, and
the Jets offense couldn't do anything in that way too,
So I'll give him a path on that week. I
thought there was there was definitely improvement the week before
against Tampa and saying what bo Nicks did on that
(27:10):
road game gave me some hope there that that there's
some upside and this is not something that's from a
system standpoint that's obsolete. So let's give that one. Let's
give that one more time, Doug. But make a mistake
about it. That's a defensive driven team right now, not
an offensive driven teams.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Can the Ravens win this way in the playoffs. It's different,
right because now you have a dominant runner. But we've
seen Derek Henry get limited when he gets in the
playoffs as well.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Can they win this way when it counts?
Speaker 10 (27:40):
It's a gauntlet to go through. I just think eventually
in the playoffs, you're going to run into somebody that's
going to be able to slow that down and you're
going to have to make those throws. That's been kind
of the that's been the case so far with them.
I mean, they've made it a round or two, but
they haven't been able to get the ultimate prize because
I think there still comes a time where you're going
to have to sit back there and make those throws consistently.
(28:01):
So I it's a very high floor h offense that
they have. It's a you know, the ceiling is just
a little bit lower. But saying that, yeah, I don't
know where the great teams are in the a FC
right now. I don't you know, I think all of
them are flawed. So this might be a situation where
if they catch the league in the right cycle where
(28:21):
the Chiefs don't have the receivers that they you know
that they need that maybe that's uh, you know, that's
more of a possibility. But it is hard. That is
a very very hard way to go to the playoffs
to win that.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Way, it is, It is very very difficult. Who do
you think Kansas City adds?
Speaker 10 (28:40):
You know, that's a great question. I mean, I'm sure
they'll They'll kick the tires on a lot of different people.
I look at the Jags. If if the Jags were
to lose this week, you know, I don't know what
the information guys are saying, but it's when you listen
to the press conferences there it doesn't sound like that's
you know, that's for long. If that continues on the road,
(29:01):
it's down yep is an early If that's an early
coaching change, you know, I could see them calling on
some of their veteran guys. Obviously they are going to
get Brian Thomas Junior out of there, but you know
this Christian Kirk become available. You know, I have looked
at the contracts, but that's that's a team that I
would I would keep an eye on. If you're looking
at some way that could punt and and start moving
on next year.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
We're not punting, but we have we've run out of Downs.
Daniel Jeremiah moved the six is the podcast, and of
course he is our noted Padre fan. As we watch
playoff baseball, I think.
Speaker 10 (29:31):
Michael King just struck out another Brave. I don't know,
I don't know if that this happened or not, but
that was pretty easy last night.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Huh yeah, Well listen, it's going to be really really
interesting to see what happens if the Dodgers take on
the Padres. And you and Jay s Duke can can
talk a little trash on a daily basis, but POD's
POD's got game two tonight. Chance to eliminate the eliminate
the the Braves. And of course we know who you'll
be rooting for. We'll talk to you so man. Appreciate you,
Thanks buddy.

Let's get to the press the press, Dan Byer Doug.
Speaker 7 (30:36):
An update from Houston.
Speaker 5 (30:37):
The Astros were able to put two on the board
in the bottom of the seventh inning when we last spoke.
They had runners on base with no one out. They
were able to get too across. So the Astros now
on top of the Tigers two to one heading into
the eighth inning of Game two of their playoff series.
It's a best of three series Detroit one game one yesterday.
(30:59):
Astros trying to they're season alive with a win today.
Six outs to go, though, the Asters have got to
close this one down.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
It's a close one.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
And of course kan City up on Baltimore won nothing
as well in the first inning. Remember that's how that
game ended yesterday. So see Baltimore can start to put
some offense together. All my Mets fans in my life
for cheering that they beat Milwaukee. Milwaukee got a win tonight,
big one.
Speaker 7 (31:26):
Yeah, Dan, What else do I have here?
Speaker 10 (31:29):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (31:30):
I know what, I've got some news from the National
Football League.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Doug.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
We start out in Dallas. Cowboys wad receiver Brandon Cooks
is going to miss Week five against the Steelers because
of an infection in his knee. And reports say he
got this after getting an injection after their win against
the Giants on Thursday night, and that is where the
infection took place. And now Brandon Cooks could be out
even a lot longer than week five. The procedure was
(31:56):
done on the knee also cleaned up some of his
meniscus as well. So that's where Brandon Cooks is.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Yeah, that one. I mean, you hear from infection and
I just you know what I think when I think infection?
Speaker 7 (32:11):
What's that?
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Plus?
Speaker 7 (32:12):
Oh gosh, all right? Ben news.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
Yesterday, the Bills lost edge rusher Von Miller for four
games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, stemming an
incident in late November of last year. Here was Bill's
head coach Sean McDermott today on the Miller suspension.
Speaker 8 (32:30):
We respect the decision made by the league and really
it's out of our control. And what we need to
focus on is is is it's an opportunity for someone
on our football team to step up.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
I'm not in a position to go into the details
on it.
Speaker 8 (32:46):
You know, you can assume what you can assume.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
That's where we're at on it.
Speaker 11 (32:49):
So Miller was not charged in the matter. Jason Stewart,
you want to know on this, so just let me
get this straight. Sean McDermott doesn't want to give any details.
He doesn't want to let us in on what happened. Well,
the police told us that von Miller was arrested for
assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Last season. Assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. Matt Riza was falsely
accused of a gang rape in college, and the Bills
chose to cut him without any evidence that provided. Matt
Riiza lost two years of salary because of a false witness.
(33:30):
A woman who was or was not assaulted named him
in a lawsuit, and he was completely exonerated. The Bills
should owe him back pay for the last two years,
and they should cut von Miller. If von Miller actually
assaulted his girlfriend, why does he get four games and
mattter Riiza gets two years of no salary.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
I'd have to say that there's got to be some
details in there with von Miller. I agree with you.
If he actually did assault his girlfriend, you know, and
the matter Ariza thing.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Look, you and I have defended Matt Eriza since the
day he was exonerated, but I would also point out
that and look, this was where we have been as
a country, which is, you know, the second there's an accusation,
we pull the plug on somebody before we actually let
the details come out. So I kind of think that
(34:29):
von Miller thing is seems a little bit more level
headed as opposed to the Eriza thing.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Does not got to be something in there that makes
it so that you have to suspend him. But you
don't just cut him.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
You don't just get rid of him, because Bond doesn't
have nearly the effect that they thought he'd have when
he came over. I mean, it's not like he's an
uncuttable guy.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
Yeah, his play is limited now.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
He's more in past rushing situations, which are obviously important
in that scenario.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
All right.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
In other news, Sammy want in on this. He just
gave me the two minutes. I'm kidding, I'm let's just
sprap this up here. Lakers have a DJ at their practice,
Doug performing before and after practices, head coach JJ Reddick
(35:19):
saying today that this was Lebron's idea. Anthony Davis said
that Bronni. James actually hit a three over Lebron in
a scrimmage today and says that Lebron is just a
different person. There is a different kind of happy when
it comes to Lebron at this point, with Bronni being
(35:39):
a member of the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
Well, that's nice, That's that's really nice. I like that.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
You know, the team has not achieved anything, specially for
the past couple of years. They didn't get to the
Western Conference finals. But Lebron's happy. That's what's I absolutely
agree that there's nothing wrong with keeping a superstar happy.
But do you really you really want to win a championship?
Why would you spend a draft pick there? You could
(36:06):
have got him, You could have got him otherwise.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
You know, at some point we're gonna have to get
in the conversation of of what it's going to be
like for Hayes as you know he ventures on his
college basketball journey. You know, is it is it an
automatic play for dad? What is the what is the
conversation there going to be?
Speaker 2 (36:26):
I mean he asked me, I like, don't offer me
the first week It's like, what do you mean about
offering this?
Speaker 1 (36:31):
You got a Division on player yet, dude, you're not close.
Speaker 7 (36:35):
Hey Dad, Hey, Dad, just don't offer me week one.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
He's like, yeah, look at it. Look dumb. If he's like,
offer me weird week one. I was like, okay, buddy, okay.
Speaker 7 (36:46):
That's the press. Hey, get out there and pressed.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
That was the press.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
That's the Doug ole Thic Joe Fox Sports trade reminder.
