(00:26):
Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio? Mm hmmm mmmm. We got
a lot to get to. The PGA Championship is underway.
I'll tell you what else is on the way. Yeah, yeah,

(00:47):
I mean the second I start talking about and they
start losing, Angels get swept by the Rangers. Ye, don't
worry the A's Now they get the A's who are
in last place. So we'll see if the Angels can
have a better output tonight at the Burger. That'll be that,
that should be. That should be fun. Stuck Gotli show
here on Fox Sports Radio. Um, so we got the

(01:09):
PGA Championship taking place. We got Nick Saban versus Jimbo Fisher. Actually,
Nick Saban versus feels like everybody all right. Roy McElroy
shout of sixty five todays you heard from Dan Buyer.
He he leads the p G A championship and it
does feel like, yeah, like it's early but later today
gonna get hot, gonna keep drying out, um, even though

(01:33):
there should be some rain in the weekend. Do you
guys see the flop sweat of Tiger Woods when he
got done? Man? That is that is midday golf in
Oklahoma in May, June, and July August is I mean,
thank thankfully it's only May now. Cannot imagine that this
thing was June or July, like it'd be completely complete

(01:53):
flop sweat for everybody. But it's early on and and
you know Tiger was okay. He wasn't anything special, nothing
to write home about. Does anybody actually write home any anymore? Anyway?
It's a great question, great question. Why would you think
a Tiger's round when he got a chance to watch.
I know you're working as well, and you're you're peering
up and and doing your job. How do you how

(02:15):
do you look from your perspective? That good? That's a
good one. Sorry, Doug, I was recording something else. Repeat
the question, no problem. How do you think Tiger looked? Um?
He looked okay at the start, but his body he
wins to bunch. Yeah, I saw the I saw the
winsing late when he was off the tea especially. Yeah,
and that just makes you wonder, um, he'll need these,

(02:37):
you know, twenty four hours to to end up recouping.
But yeah, I shot thirty nine on his uh second
nine of the day, and uh yeah, that's it's not
gonna get it done. Nope, nope, nope, nope. But this
is actually it actually shows how great that first round
and Augusta was and what adrenaline can and course knowledge

(02:58):
and the fuel of that place can do. Because this
is actually much more reasonable, like our right are. The
expectations should be just that if he plays, it's a win.
The idea that he can be competitive, especially at this
level of golf, uh, seems very very far fetch, which
is how it's playing out of such The tough part
about this, and this is actually the issue even before

(03:20):
Tiger had the wreck, was you never knew about his back,
and you never knew how his back was gonna hold up.
And when you play a major championship, you could have
three rounds of great golf and then maybe he wakes
up wrong that Sunday morning of the final round, and
then it all goes down the drain um. To your
point of how great the round that the Masters was

(03:40):
is also just how great twenty nineteen was. Again of
him being able to come back like it's yeah, it's
a very very tough hault. I think on Monday through Wednesday,
we all like can imagine and dream that, yeah, maybe
he can do it, maybe he can do it again.
But then when you see that this is kind of
some of the reality. Plus you play in the same
group as Rory, and Rory played you know, darn year

(04:01):
flawless golf for you know, the first two thirds of
the day than a couple of bogies on his second nine.
But yeah, I think there's gonna be a lot of
work for Tiger to do to play the weekend now
when you're nine shots back. Yeah, I I feel like
a lot, a lot, a lot of and the likelihood
of him playing better now again, there is a potential
for some weather in the forecast that could slow it down.

(04:23):
But the problem is if it rains, though it makes
it uh. Though it makes it cooler and it makes
the green softer, it also makes the course longer, right,
because you're not getting as much role and his his
issue now is is length as well as accuracy. But yeah,
and and I saw the wind sing as well. But
they saw the windsing. It doesn't appear like he may

(04:47):
only need one more pair underwear. That's that's really kind
of what what what we get down to? All right,
Let's let's get to last night. The Warriors took game
one and ends up being a blowout. I thought what
was interesting is the Warrior's creativity and how they were
Garden Luca. Here's Clay Thompson. Know what worked. I think
our length and um started with Andrew. He was moving
them puppies at night. And then, you know, I still

(05:09):
take part of my defense no matter what people say,
if I lost it or not, and I still think
I'm a very good defender. And then steps in the lanes.
Obviously Draymond we can count on him every night on
that side of the ball. But I just think our
ball pressure and our health defense will spectacle tonight. Here's
Jordan's pool on Andrew Wiggins defense. Oh, I mean I
feel like it depends on your handle personally. I mean,

(05:31):
if you don't really trust your handle and you've got
a pressure in the back. According your responsibility is to
set the offense. Um maybe maybe different, but um Ways
is an amazing defender and being able to have him,
uh pick up Luca ninety four really helps us. So
tremendous effort and great game by wigg This is Luca.
Don check on how the Warriors did against him. Luka,

(05:53):
what do you think about the job they did against
you defensively, both Wiggins individually and then the different looks
that they threw at you. A great job, that's it.
That's all I gotta say. They did a great job.
Here's Luke on what he needs to do better. We
gotta play better, that's it. You know. We gotta play tougher,
we gotta play better, just like the Phenix series, uh,

(06:14):
after game one and then we're gotta learn from there,
you know. And their game two was the same as
game one, so we gotta learn from that, and we
gotta come out harder and play harder than play better.
You know. There's a bunch of different looks that they
gave him. They played actually some boxing one, they played
some straight up zone, uh they and then they let

(06:35):
you know, Andrew Wiggins guard him ft and didn't switch
at all and then occasionally put what's called two on
the ball to get out of his get it out
of his hands. But they gave a bunch of different
looks and you know, to different levels of success. He
only end up with twenty, but he had eighteen at
the half. Uh And honestly, the first half there was
a couple turnovers, but like three turnovers and start the
second half are part of what triggered triggered the game.

(06:59):
I thought the biggest thing was that their their transition
defense was bad and that they did a great thing
on a great job on Luca. What's important to remember
is and and keep in mind in game one, okay,
the Warriors were up what nine at the half, and
then they go on I think like a thirteen run

(07:21):
to start the second half. Clay and and Steph didn't
hit anything in the first half, and yet they still
had a nine point lead. When they started hitting shots,
it was over. I don't think that boats well for Dallas.
I do think Dallas will make some adjustments and and
an obediest to see how they adjust, like I would
as much as Luca is ball dominant, wouldn't be surprised
if you start with him off the ball some then

(07:42):
get it to him and then let him play play
with the basketball and figure out different ways, different angles
to attack from than just bringing it up at going.
I don't know. I mean, like, look, the Warriors were really,
really good. It's only one night, and we've seen enough
from these teams to realize at what happens when I
let me look at the Warriors games Game five in

(08:03):
Memphis and what happened in Game six. So do I
think it'll be better? Yeah? Do I think the Warriors
got away with any call, got any fifty fifty ball,
and made some impressive place to their own I do?
Does that mean it will last for six seven games?
I don't think so. I don't think so. If you're

We like to get you caught up on all sports.
We've been doing a little bit more hockey. It's so funny.
I had a hockey guy. I gotta find out where
I where that Where that post was one of the
social media pages. Um, I think it might have been

(09:31):
on our Facebook page that it was a good one
where Yeah, uh no, not that one. No, not that one. UM,
try'll find it anyway. Uh. Somebody reach out to me
and said, I used to like your show. Then you
started making fun of hockey. Now I'm out. The best
part about it is we literally never talked about hockey

(09:55):
for any of the five years that I've been at
Fox Sports Radio, not one segment sentence. And what we
made fun of and what we will contend to make
fun of, is the fact that none of us actually
pay attention to hockey. Uh, but we pay a little
bit more attention now, so we don't sound like complete
idiots in talking about hockey when we do the two

(10:17):
cups and uh two lies and a cup segment later
on the show. So so, so keep in mind, so
we piste off our one hockey fan or one guy
who pretends to care about hockey on sports radio by
actually talking about hockey, but doing so in admitting that
we don't pay attention nor talk about hockey. This is
we when we started two lies in one Cup and

(10:38):
by the way, it's only exclusive to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
When we started it, one of the first things that
we pointed out was hockey fan gets mad that you
never talk about hockey, and then you talk about hockey
and they tell you that you don't know what you're
talking about. So Dan buyer, ladies and gentlemen, Dan buyer.
So what we tried to do is we try to
have a little fun with it, and John Ramos, who

(11:01):
is always in the hot seat, has to decipher what's
real and if you would listen to some of the
ridiculousness of it, you can actually enjoy it for what
it is instead of trying to overthink it and get offended.
Thank you. That's Stan Buyer, Okay, following on social media. Uh,
he knows exactly what he's talking about. And he's right.

(11:23):
You don't talk about hockey like one. You don't talk
about one. There's this is what I look at. I
I told my my boss at CBS Radio at the time.
He's no longer there, and he used to call me
in and he says, I'd love your show, but gosh,
I wish you'd take more calls. And I said, you

(11:45):
know what, the second you provide me with data that
tells me that people want to listen to other people
talk on the radio that calls, I will take as
many calls you'd like. And until that data exists, I'm
gonna do it this way, where I have on people
you know, like a lead NBA reporter. We we just
have on you know that that that covers the NBA,

(12:08):
or you know, we're gonna have Matt Carroll on a
little bit later of course, stud quarterback at Old Miss
uh now a Carolina panther like would you rather listen
to me or Dan or Jason Stewart or any of
our litany of super talented guests, or Jim from Albuquerque?
Uh and and and what his question or comment or

(12:29):
thought of the day is again you you we we
do value you as a listener, but there but other
listeners don't value you your opinion. They just don't. And
you have an unlike the old days of sports radio
where you didn't have the ability to voice your opinion.
You can at Gottlieb Show on Twitter, at Gottlieb Show
on Instagram, the Doug gotlie Show fan page on Facebook.

(12:50):
And if it's a really good point, I may mention it.
But you know, we you know what else we don't
talk about it. We don't talk about baseball. That's why
we invented that's baseball. It's time for that's baseball, all right?
What you're talking about? This buyer the right Max Scherzer

(13:10):
pulled himself out of the game in the sixth inning
with side discomfort. I think the problem with how he
did this, He's got an oblique injury hill sideline him
the next six to eight weeks. The scary part was
the way which he did. He just like did the
did the throat slash thing and just said I'm done.
And like all of a sudden, I feel like social
media has more Mets fans than any other sport, than

(13:33):
any other team in baseball? Do you ever notice that
anyway he did the undone, We're like, damn, is it
his elbow? Is it his shoulder? Oh, it's his oblique whatever.
Take all the time you need. Remember the old side
ache when you were a kid. Yes, that was like
one of the most prevalent injuries of childhood. Got it
hurt so bad, so like somebody was taking ice pick

(13:55):
to your side. Usually usually it was big as you
drank too much water, right, that's or you went swimming
too close to Oh, by the way, how's that Freddie
Freeman pick up? Looking now? Right? Remember it was sure there?
Should we shared the Dodger sign? Sure there? Or maybe

(14:15):
do something? And then you know, sure, there's been like
injured three times already this season. But in his defense,
Dave Roberts would have pulled him in the third last night. Okay,
Speaking of former Dodgers, Albert Pools collected two hits against
Max Scherzer in the game yesterday, passing Eddie Collins. Oh,
who can't forget Eddie Collins? Right on tenth all time

(14:37):
in the hits list three thousand, three and fourteen hits
for the machine. This is kind of a low key, um,
great baseball story. I think Albert pool Holes like saying
goodbye to baseball and doing it in St. Louis. Maybe
it'll get some uh some ron later on the season,
but it's it's kind of a cool story because he keeps,
you know, doing these kind of like be around a

(14:59):
long time. I'm milestones as a cardinal and it's uh,
I just think it's cool. Yeah. No, it's better than
the one day contract. There's a lot of weirdness to that.
It's it's I mean, look, they he just have a
think about the timing of it. Have they not put
the universal d H in? There's no way he's a
cardinal this year. You know he got the pitch this year. Um,

(15:22):
I'm waiting to see if he can switch hit once
or twice as well? Why why why not? I mean
he is he is playing. I mean he started a
first space today, but he is playing. Yeah, he does.
He plays something. It's it's a it is But I
like it better than the one day contract us the
same birthday. By the way, Albert pool Holes and I huh, um,

(15:46):
I have a here's my funny Albert pool story. Is
I had a friend on the Cardinals back in the day,
one of the lower paid dudes, and actually Holiday introduced
me to him. Holiday didn't tell it, tell me the
story of somebody else. And he's like, uh, it was
it was the year which he was, you know, going
back and forth about the contract. Ultimately, you know, they

(16:07):
they really offered him a six year deal with three
kind of phony years that they could have bought their
way out of. Anyway. It was like complaining about money
that year out. Woolves came to training camp. Every day
he drove a different car. They tracked it every literally
every day he drove a different car. It was like
opulence has it? Okay? The uh, the Dodgers swept the Diamondbacks,

(16:29):
which I guess I have to mention. Are the Diamonds good? Nope? Okay,
there were for a week. The Angels were good for
a couple of weeks until they met the Rangers. Rangers
came back late to be the Angels. In the ninth
Uh Razeli Glaciers gave up a two run home run
to Nathaniel Low. Just crushing my spirit and getting swept

(16:51):
by the Rangers, and uh, here's the that's baseball. Moment. Right,
a catcher name jonah Heim collected three hits off show
Hey Otani, that game I'm single in the fourth inning
came off a hundred mile an hour fastball by Otani,
only the second time Otani has allowed to hit on
a hundred mile an hour pitch in his major league career. Right,

(17:12):
So the idea is like man und by the way,
usually if you hit a ball that came in a
hundred miles an hour, the thought is the harder it
comes in, the harder it goes out. Now, this was
just a single. Do you know why it was only
a single despite a hunter mile an hour pitch. That's
baseball now got live show rolls on here on Fox
Sports Radio. Read. Valor joins us pg Ellis for the

(17:34):
for DraftKings. Uh. He joins us on the Doug Gottlib Show.
Read give me your assessment of Tiger now that we've
seen him complete eighteen Yeah, I mean, take a look
at what he did today. He started off hot, right,
started off really hot. We thought Mnus will jump on
the boat. Um because he started off you know, better
than I think he did at Augusta. But plus four

(17:56):
for Tiger. Um, we just kind of got away from
especially on the front nine, you see five bogies, uh
from from Tigers. So, like I thought it was gonna
be a little bit better than that Augusta in the
first round. In his first round at you know, at
the Masters, it was pretty solid. So you know, you're
seeing the teeth of this golf course. If you're a
wayward just a little bit, you're seeing the teeth of it.

(18:18):
And Tiger Woods definitely felt backs to it. Uh okay,
speaking of the teeth of this Gulf golf course, Rory
seemed to see the teeth of this Gulf course golf course.
And unlike the Masters where he only started to play
incredibly well on Sunday and it was too little too late,
played very well today. What are you seeing from Rory's game? Yeah,

(18:40):
I mean, if he's gonna hit his wedges this well, um,
and that's the that's the Rory of Bold, right. If
he gets he's really acute with his wedges in you know,
in a hundred and fifty yards and in then it's
you know, with his ball shreking and his ability off
the teeth, it's going to be tough to beat. Um.
Those four birdies in a Row on the back nine,
which is where he started, was fantastic. You know, he

(19:03):
faltered a little bit down the stretch with two bogie's
in his last four holes. But again, if he is hitting,
and that's the biggest thing with Rory is that and
he was always a slow starter at majors and be
he wasn't valid in with his wedges, and now it's
the exact opposite. And you know, if you can shoot.
Look when you talk about after thirty six holes at
THISSC Golf Course, if you're not within one or two

(19:23):
shots of the lead, it's going to be extremely hard
for you to catch up to anybody. Right, You're gonna
see these guys hold serve most likely after Saturday. So
you want to be near Rory. And that's a that's
tough guy. If he's the leader, if he's the lead dog,
he's a tough guy to catch because if he's playing
like this and he if he's hitting his wedges clows,
he's gonna be tough to be stug gotlip show here

(19:45):
on Fox Sports Trader that's the voice of of of
Ree Fowler works for Draft Kings covers the p G
a um, what what do you think happens next with Phil. Yeah,
you know, we it's kind of you don't want to
see what what the real reason is, right, Um, I'm
sure a lot of it. Predominantly it is what he said,

(20:09):
and it was probably more so from the tour, and
I'm just speculating more so from the tour of Phil.
You need to take a little bit of a break. Um.
And then Phil also as well, saying, hey, there's a
lot of stuff that's gonna come out, either with ship
Nuts book or the stuff that's gonna transpire with me
saying what I did. Whatever it is, they're the case.
Maybe I think we're gonna learn more about what the

(20:30):
real thing is because there's some ancillary stuff that there's
the reasons why that he's not he's not currently playing,
but honestly, if I were him, I would probably start
off on the Champions Tour, right, you know, play one
of those those those tours that it's you know, not
very stressful where you can go out there. It's the
hit and giggle for him, he can probably win it

(20:51):
and then come back, you know a little bit slower
to the PJ. It's probably not gonna happen, but this
is what I said, I think I said you said
this to year earlier. Dog is that I don't think
we see him. You know, I definitely didn't think we're
going to see him here at p G A. You know,
I don't think we see him for a while, just
because of what transpired. Right, So you know, if I
had to guess, and if I were him and FI
were his team, might stay start up on the on

(21:11):
the Champion Store, and then slowly make your way back
to the PGA tour. Do you think he plays the
first event on the other tour. I mean, I don't
think so. I don't think that's Phil's m O, right, Like,
I think he wants to come out, you know, and
basically saying, hey, look I I said some stuff, but
I belong on this tour. I just want a major

(21:33):
a year ago. So I belong on this tour. And
that's sort of Phil's personality, right. He's not going to
really he's not gonna take his medicine, so to speak. Well,
I do think that part of this was him saying
I need to step away. A lot of it was
what transpired. Um, I don't think he he does that.
I think it would be smart, but I think the
first time we see him is on a PGA Tour event,

(21:53):
and it's gonna be one of these tertiary events, right,
It's not going to be one of these majors, are
one of these big time events. It's it's gonna be
most likely a tertiary event, maybe a sponsors exemption somewhere
that he's got a good tie in with. Um. But
again it's I don't think we've seen him for a while. Uh,
Scottie Scheffler was the odds on favorite. He ends up

(22:14):
to date he's uh, he's even through four Excuse me, Um,
how do you think that this? And and yet you
get the every golf course sets up for Scotti Scheffler.
Is that accurate or or or what do you think
of him at at the New Southern Hills. Yeah, currently
he just actually eagle the fifth Doug and so now
he's that two under. I believe that was the first

(22:35):
eagle at the par five six and sixty five yards. Um,
you know that's that he's eagling. So that just gives
you an idea of that at any golf course, on
any hole, you know, something that's close to seven hundred yards.
I mean, like I don't even know in our life temple,
we see a seven hundred yard par five on the
PGA Tour. Baby. Um. But yeah, I mean the reason

(22:57):
why you like Scotti Scheffler and why people that he
sets up everywhere is that you can win multiple ways.
You can win with this approach. Game is putting is fantastic.
But what we saw at the match Play and what
we saw at the Masters, is that his short game
is is also elite. Right. If he's around the green,
he's not only getting him close, he's making them. He's
taking them out of the bunkers he's making he's chipping

(23:18):
them in. And that's if you can do that tea green. Um,
then yeah, you can play on a seventy yard part
seventy or a seventy seventy yard parts seventy two. Okay,
so tomorrow, obviously that you got tigers groups is gonna
go late. The girl, the groups that are on the
course now will go early in terms of bettings just

(23:38):
for tomorrow. Uh and anybody you like, anybody jump out
at you. Yeah, I mean it's hard. I mean, if
it rules out tors is gonna put this way because
that's his biggest thing, right, he hasn't had a wing yet,
but if he's gonna put the way he did, especially
earlier in his round, that is extremely scary for everybody else, right,
Like Roy McRoy is right now. Uh you know someone

(24:00):
who's the plus three to win the golf tournament, Will
Allas Horace is plus one thousand one duk sports book.
But this is a major tournament, right, Like I mentioned,
Rory is is tough to catch when he's leading. But
we've also seen Rory give us the random double bogie
that he shouldn't, right, So if that's the case, you've
got a lot of good guys following. Cameron Smith had

(24:21):
a really good bounce back. He started off two over
par on his front nine Doug and came back and
he finished two under and that was including a double
bogey on the front nine. So you know, if he
doesn't make those mistakes and those aberrations on then on
the scorecard, then you know he'd be right there with Rory.
So I wouldn't kind out guys like camp Fit, especially

(24:42):
when you can put as well as he can. Really
great stuff, man, Thanks so much for joining us. We
really appreciate it and can't wait to uh here here
your stuff and see your stuff some more as this
thing rolls on. Really appreciate you join us all right,

Slash awards limitations apply. Um, you know, we are kind
of back in that space, guys where because Tiger played early,
because Tiger's four over, We're back in that No one's
saying golf is an awesome It is, but gosh it,

(25:27):
it gets harder and harder to find a reason to
really dig in for the non for the mainstream, non
hardcore golf fan. Right is that fair? Jason Stewart? Right, Like, if,
for whatever, if Tiger shot four dtead of four over,
everybody's watching, nothing else in the tournament has to change. Yeah,
that's correct. You're speaking basically about guys like me. Um,

(25:51):
I'm I'm definitely much more interested if Tiger's got a
fighting chance, or even if he makes the cut tomorrow
I'll be watching this weekend, but I'm I'll be catching
the highlights if he does not make the cut. And
what's interesting is you have Scottie Scheffler and I'm watching
him just dial in an dial in shot after shot.

(26:11):
Here is he's starting to he mention read mentioned the Eagle,
like Scotti Scheffler is on a run here or of
just dominance this year, right dominance? And yet you're like,
Scotti is just a golfer that weird by or how
do we get out of that? How do we how
do we get to the place where we can appreciate

(26:31):
like this, For example, let's say Scotti Scheffler, you know it,
comes up and leads this thing and and competes with
Ricky Like we know, the numbers won't be as good
and people won't be talking as much despite the fact
that here's the guy who's the best golfer in the
world playing like the best golf in the world against
the best golfers in the world. How do we get
to where more people care? Well? Number one, I think
that the toughest thing that that we have to face

(26:55):
is that because Tiger was so enormous and is such
a draw, like there, it will never be like it
was twenty years ago. Um And because he does take
up all the air in the room, it takes a
lot out of it. I actually looked at tennis and
because I think that there are similarities and if you

(27:16):
had a scenario wearing Gulf, you had a Federer, Djokovic,
Nadal like trio, three guys that were like always battling
it out. Maybe it's McElroy kept gutting, you know, justin
Thomas or Jordan Spiezer in that like, if there there
were three guys that that could separate it, I think
that you could grab some attention that way, because if

(27:40):
you remember tennis, at least for us here in the States,
you know, it was on the heels. Federate takes over
at the end of the Samprius reign and you're like, man,
what is there now? We had Samprus and Agacy and
all this great tennis for so long and we didn't
know the era that we were beginning. When Roger Federer
was winning, We're like, uh, Federer again. And then now
you look back, you're like, man, what a golden age

(28:01):
it's been. And I think that that is something that
that could happen if in golf, that could make it
that way. Maybe having three young stars end up, you know,
having five, six, seven majors and being those stars, so
it's those three guys so it's not just one guy
carrying it. I think something like that could could really help.

(28:24):
I I like those ideas. All those ideas are really
really good. Uh here here's what I wanna do. Coming
up next. Okay, we're gonna get the what the Foxes,
but also Nick Saban. Okay, Nick Saban has apologized sort of. Plus, wait,
do you what Brady Quinn had to say about Nick Saban?
That's how coming next. Be sure to catch the live
edition of The Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m.

(28:46):
Easter noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio app What Up Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio.
So one of the big topics today is Jimbo Fisher
versus Nick Saban. Nick Saban actually has spoken out again today.

(29:09):
We'll get that for you top of the hour. Top
of the hour. First off, let me play for you
what Brady Quinn said about Nick Saban's rant on Techa
and M and now say he's basically saying, like one,
what Jimbo Fisher did, Yeah, it helped him become the
number one recruiting class. But we know now none of

(29:32):
that stuff is supposed to be out there and available
for him, whether it's happening or not. Right, based on
what the n c A has provided his guidance, you
can't be offering kids deals before they actually get the campus.
That's called inducement. I mean, we all look at it
as saying, hey, Nick Saban saying like, all right, this
is how you want to play like, I'll play this
game too, right. The truth is, did not level the

(29:56):
playing field at least like and m figured it out.
So as it's just we think it's about Nick Saban saying, hey,
I'll jump into this too, and you're not gonna like
the results. I also think it's Nick Saban who's understanding
that maybe their successes is sustainable as more and more
schools continue to build up there and I l war
chest if you will, and and get more talented talented

(30:18):
players to come to their school to compete against Alabama.
Mm hmm, you know, let's let's actually listen to this
is Nick Saban moments ago on serious sex step. You know,
I should have never really singled anybody out. You know,
that was a mistake, and I really apologize for that
part of it. I reached out to him, never got

(30:40):
a response, but I feel bad about it. But I'm
not changing my philosophy on you know, I look at
the better amount of college football, what is good for
the game, and sometimes those things are not much best
for Alabama. But I've been known this for a long time,
and you know, my my whole fcus has always been,

(31:01):
you know, how can we help players be successful? And
I don't want to take anyway anything away from him,
and I don't want to take any opportunities away from him.
I just you know, I just think systematically, this is
you know, all the guys that are transferring, and you know,
I mean it's it's it's a crazy world out there
right now, and hopefully, you know, we can all get
our heads together and you know, make it so people

(31:23):
can get back to focusing on what they need to
do to develop by their in college and get an
education and become better people, become better players have a
chance to play at the next level, which is you
know what we've always tried to create. There's a lot there.
So he's like, look, I'm sorry. So if you missed it,
this is what Nick Saban actually said, Right, we were

(31:47):
second in recruiting last year and then was first, and
then bought every player on their team, made a deal
for a name. Image like, all right, we didn't buy
one player, all right, But I don't know if we're
going to be able to sustain that in the future
because more and more people are doing it. So I guess,
I guess here's the thing. Okay, this this is a legit,

(32:07):
honest question. When he said they bought guys and Jimbo
Fisher obviously lost his mind and when scorched earth, right,
what was he wrong? Was he lying? And oh yeah,
by the way, I don't believe he ever said illegally bought.

(32:27):
Obviously is a trigger word and it has a negative.
It has all kinds of negative ramifications and implications. Right,
but there wasn't a long he didn't go into it.
Now he said we didn't buy anybody. I'm I'm guessing
you know that he has a quarterback that reportedly has
gets over makes over a million dollars to be quarterback

(32:49):
at Alabama. But you know, Bryce Young wasn't offered that
in order to come to Alabama, or at least reportedly
wasn't offered that to come to Alabama when he has
committed to USC. So I think what happens is we start.
What what I heard from Nick Saban is, I remember

(33:11):
Nick Saban is a call to arms, a call to
all those all the Alabama people. Like, look, man, I
don't know, I don't feel I don't feel great about
this name, image and likeness thing. But boys, if you
want to have number one recruiting class, some of you
in this room are gonna have to pony up and
and figure out a way to get it done. That's
what it felt, it feels continues to feel like to me.
Whereas Jimbo Fisher. Here's the crazy thing about Jimbo Fisher.

(33:36):
Like jim he cannot like the word bought. But Jimbo
like this is how even how Jimbo Fisher to to
say he feels good about the process of how they're
doing it now. Just Jimbo Fisher never said like, yeah,
of course we they got name, images and likeness, they
got money. We had nothing to do with it. He
didn't say any of that because he knows that it.

(33:57):
It doesn't feel right. It just doesn't for a bunch
of freshmen, half of whom aren't ever gonna pan out
too much of anything. It didn't feel right. That's what
the fox said. UM also saw this and uh like
this one as as a as a topic. Um, you know, guys,

(34:21):
I I think uh like we had a little bit
more from from Nick Saban. All right. Here's him explaining
that he never said anyone did anything illegal. I really
wasn't saying that anybody did anything illegal and use a name,
image and likeness. I didn't say that. That was something

(34:42):
that was assumed by what I said, which is not
really what I meant, nor was it what I said.
So there's nothing illegal about doing this. It's the system
that allows you to do it. And that's the issue
that I have. I agree with him. He didn't say
illegal they did by players. He never said it was
against against the rules. He said he didn't know if

(35:06):
Alabama could continue to compete if they did it the
way that they've always been doing it. Here's Nick Saban
on name image and likeness. I'm not against name image
and likeness. I think it's a great thing for players. Um,
you know, Our players made a lot of money last
year in name, image and likeness. But you know I

(35:26):
told our players to you know, get an agent, get representation,
you know, make what you can make. Players have always
been able to work. And I think that's a good thing.
Um So what he's saying is, and I actually agree
with this, that if it's really name, image and likeness,
then you gotta have played games. You know, I am

(35:48):
I buy a my? Am? I did I miss? Did
I hear something wrong? Or did my my taking some
bait with it? I feel like, Okay, you just have
all these people who you just we we have legit
journalists who will go on social media and go like,
oh one Dick say, he said bought, so that means illegal, Like, no,
he didn't. It's legal to buy guys now, it's illegal

(36:14):
supposedly for schools to direct you know those you know,
those name images and likeness deals. But he didn't say
anything about that. He just said A and M bought guys,
A M did buy guys. What what are we actually
talking about here? There's there's no denial anywhere that Texas
A and M bought their entire recruiting class, that they
they had this war chest that the A and M

(36:35):
is sick and tired of constantly getting their asses kicked
every year when they think they're gonna be good. So
first they went out and they paid the most money
they possibly could for a coach is won a national championship,
who would go there? And they found Jimbo Fisher who
was unhappy at Florida State. And then when they opened
it up to legally buy kids, they illegally bought him.
That's what they did. There's no disputing it. None wouldn't.

(37:00):
Saban said, it is, Look, I don't know about Alabama.
We continue to be Alabama if we don't do what
A and M is doing, which feels to me like
he's telling his boost is like, yeah, I'll better pay
up some of these kids here. Maybe it's not. I
actually agree with his name, image and likeness stands. Like
the idea is, if you play good and you want to,

(37:20):
you can get a deal with local car dealership or whatever,
like go do it, go do it. But and of
course they bought kids who don't know. One's disputing that.
