Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottly Show.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Heres in the bonus with Doug Gottli.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Who what I got the Joe Fox Sports Radio. What's
the greatest game plan you can remember? Like, I can't
believe they did that, right. Sean mcvays told everybody close
to him that Bill Belcheck's game plan when they played
(00:33):
against the Patriots in the Super Bowl was brilliant. And
then they lost us I think a safety, was it,
Patrick Chung? They lost like right before the half, and
they came out of the locker room with adjustments and
the Patriots had changed what they were doing yet again,
and that's why they scored three points and lost to
the Patriots. So again, in terms of game plans, that
that's an ald timer. But I would argue that the
(00:55):
greatest game plan and execution of game plan is what
happened in the Middle East yesterday. Are you guys familiar
with this story? It's so funny that, yeah, it's funny
because they killed a bunch of terrorists and hurt a
bunch of terrorists. So I don't care. Sorry if if
(01:15):
you're a defender of Hesbelah, if you're a defender of Hamas, like, sorry,
I think you can kind of go to hell. Doesn't
matter to me. Those are terrorists. They're bad people that
want to kill other human beings and they don't care
who it is, women, children, just whatever. They're terrorists anyway.
So apparently somehow Israel hacked their network of beepers, and
(01:38):
if you look online you can find out why. Apparently
they all switched over to beepers. And then there's like
a i as the Prime Minister of Iran who had
one of these, Like ooh, I wonder how he's connected
to hasbelah Duh. Like anyway, and there's some really graphic
videos out there of some really tough ways to go
(01:59):
or even live in places that were and the pagers
blew up all the same time simultaneously, like four thousand
went off and eleven people died. It's got to be
the greatest, the single greatest attack. Like no civilians hurt,
(02:25):
none of none of the Israelis were hurt. And I'm
sure there'll be a counterattack whatever, but you know, like
if you go in, you have a sneak attack and invasion,
like we went in and we got bin Laden I
think didn't one of our didn't. We had a helicopter crash.
Right Seal Team six had one helicopter crashed, and then
I think there was somebody got injured, nobody was killed.
(02:47):
So even though that was under cover of darkness, the
ability to get Bin Ladden, you know, out of his
out of his house or whatever, and nobody was killed,
that's amazing. But to simultaneously injure all of these terrorists
kill people and nobody outside of the bad guys were hurt,
and all using a pager network Jay stud that's the greatest, uh.
(03:12):
I mean, this is like the kind of thing that
one of my favorite shows is Fauda. This has to
be an episode of Fauda. This is amazing, amazing, simply amazing.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I look at it and I think it's the greatest
game plan and execution of game plan in the history
of the spy game. Now there's probably other ones that
we don't know about, but for no one outside of
the bad guys to get hurt and just being the
press of a button and who knows how many people
were hurt trying to tack into this network pretty incredible.
Speaker 1 (03:45):

Speaker 3 (03:56):
What It's get to the Fox Us and now what
I'd say every day This time in the Bonus Podcast,
we play for your portion of a previous show Fox
Sports Radio, Fox Sports One. Here's Brady Quinn talking about
Tennessee putting a ten percent ten percent hike talent fee
(04:16):
on their tickets for next year.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Do the math on it. So let's say, for example,
let's say the average ticket price is fifty dollars. Okay,
you'd be bringing in five million in revenue per game
with a one hundred thousand seed stadium. So you start
doing the math on this, and you're like, all right,
adding ten percent of that, alright, that's half a million
(04:42):
every home game. Let's say they have seven home games,
that's three point five million. Additionally, now they can spend
on student athletes. This will be a model that will
be replicated by every single school. And when we talk
about parity or the lack thereof in college football, this
is one example that look at, for example, Tennessee Stadium,
(05:03):
Michigan Stadium, Penn State Stadium, Ohio State Stadium as compared
to everyone else. You know, all those stadiums I just
mentioned over one hundred thousand seats. So there's going to
be a huge gap between just even the ticket revenue,
which there always has been, but now the ability to
take a portion of that ticket revenue and devoted towards
(05:26):
student athletes. That's huge.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Okay, here's where Brady's right, But he doesn't know the
legislation that's coming. Okay, And so here's what's coming. There's
going to be a I think it's a twenty two
million dollar cap, twenty two million dollar cap on university
spending on student athletes, and supposedly next year nil will
(05:52):
be can be in house. Okay, so yes, they will
make three and a half was he would say, an
additional three and a half million dollars per year, and
that goes in the pot. The point is that essentially,
the most people believe that over the next five years
(06:12):
it's going to be twenty two million can be spent. Now,
the question is does that have to be divided evenly
men and women. Most people think it does not. But
a lot of that money will be spent in nil.
But again, remember that's everything. So the twenty two million
also goes into what people don't understand, cost of attendance,
alston money, whatever, it's brilliant. It will get to the point,
(06:37):
just again, it will get to the point where people
will say, I ain't doing it. Okay, I ain't doing
it because what you don't know about ticket revenue is
that while every ticket is sold, okay, the season ticket
thing for a long time, you have to donate money
(06:58):
in order even to have the right, like it's a
PSL for college football. They just say, hey, you got
to have a donation now, when I know everybody operates
on the assumption that your taxes be less With Donald Trump,
it's complete bullshit. Hey, any of us caught in the
middle know that he didn't and my taxes actually went up. Additionally,
they've cut some of the loopholes, and one of the
(07:20):
loopholes was if you donated to a school to get
season tickets or buying season tickets, or buying a ticket
to a game, that's no longer a write off. Look,
we're all just trying to find ways to raise money.
And Tennessee and these schools that anytime they turn the
lights they put one hundred thousand people there. It's brilliant.
But again, at some point, you know, we're going to
(07:44):
get to the place where people are going to go,
I'm done, don't call me, you know, and they just
just got to be very careful with how much you
go to the well asking people to give money. And
then you know the other part too, it is and
then this goes back on and we'll talk about this
in a little bit with Dion talking about college kids.
(08:05):
When people are paying their money for professional athletes, they
treat them completely differently than they do when they're college kids.
That's what the box said.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
I say, be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Let's find out who or what is annoying Jason Stewart,
and now it's your annoying.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
This isn't as much annoying as it is extremely stupid.
So let me give you some background here. You know,
stealing home is something that is almost never done. I mean,
you think about Jackie Robinson stealing home in the nineteen
fifties World Series and Yogi Berra arguing the call. It's
an iconic picture, but Stealing home is almost never done,
(09:06):
and there's a reason for that because it's a fucking
stupid play. Uh, you should never try to steal home
because you're at third base, you're already well in scoring position,
so you just never see it done unless there's like
an egregious laps on the defense or what have you.
So last night the Mariners were playing the Yankees. There
(09:29):
was the bases loaded with a three and ozer count,
and this happened.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
And then stealing home the throw got him.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
That makes zero sense. Do you have a three to
zero count and you're gonna try to steal home? Zero
sense right there from the Mariners.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Absolutely ridiculous. Three oh and Justin Turner staring it to
the dugout as if to say, really you see heals
back was turned and then Robluss took off.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
It made so no sense, zero sense.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Incredible, had a good tag by Austin Wells.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
Victor Roebliss is that actually having a decent uh last
second half of the year for the Mariners. He used
to be one of the better prospects in baseball. Caught
stealing home his team was down two runs. Bases zode
in the three to zero count one of the dumbest
plays you'll ever see. Uh, well done, Victor Roebliss.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
I mean, it's it's it's an all time dumb dumb one.
You're like, what are you doing?
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Why?
Speaker 3 (10:36):
I find to be fascinating about you know, obviously, Like
the point you're making is it's really interesting when you
got guys at the highest level that still do dumb shit.
You know what I mean. You're like, what what?
Speaker 2 (10:52):
You're right?
Speaker 6 (10:53):
You're right, Like I do like seeing major leaguers making
little league mistakes. You kind of like when the pro golfers, uh,
just completely misheaded shot. It's it's very humanizing, but this
guy is just a total idiot. Cheryl Soops has been
on this segment many times, and it's because she has
this as to grinde with Caitlin Clark. And the funny
(11:16):
thing is she always denies that she does. At every
turn she denies it, but then she does this on
Gilbert Arena's podcast yesterday.
Speaker 7 (11:24):
So in her stats when we're saying she won't do
this in the w she averaged thirty one point six
seven point four rebounds.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Nine assists.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Right, did anyone expect her to do that?
Speaker 6 (11:35):
In double read no, no, right, so she didn't do that.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Now, if we.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
Say her stats are today, what twenty points, a point
four sys, six rebounds, that's crazy, but.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Crazy those rookie.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
But to me, that's not dominating.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
It's only not dominating because she's a rookie. Now, if
it's all so she's putting up numbers like Asia right now,
would she be dominating yes, So it's about the numbers.
I don't look at the dominating factor being numbers. It's
what you're doing on the floor.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
It's the dumbest fucking conversation ever. I have to tell you. Okay, listen,
I understand, like I Gilbert Arenas is not a dumb
human being, right, but some of the stances, some of
the conversation are just dumb shit. And that's one of
them in Twitch, Like I get that you played, you're
a really good player, but it's like just but that
(12:34):
is among the dumb like trying to contextualize thing and
say it's because of a rookie or whatever, like what
the fuck are we even talking about? Like look and
again like chol Shops is a great player, great player,
there's I am. I'm not somebody who sincere I don't
have to cut down somebody to build somebody else up.
That's dumb, dumb shit as well. But if we're just honest,
(12:55):
we go, like, look, the Fever were the worst team
in the WNBA by a long shot last year. She
comes in with a bunch of hype, and they struggled
the first couple of weeks, okay, and by the end
of the year they're a playoff team. She sets the
assist record, she's scoring, she clearly has made them, maybe
(13:15):
everybody around her better, and yeah, she's just but like,
you can't dominate any more than setting an all time
mark for a statistical category, especially one that creates shots
for other people. What the fuck are we even talking about?
It's literally it's annoying because because Gilbert does say some smart,
(13:37):
insightful things that we have a tendency to pay attention to,
and he has a really it's a very pretty set
for his podcast. But goddamn, that's a dumb fucking conversation.
It's like one of those God, I want those how
long was that cut? You played? Fifteen seconds? I want
those fifteen seconds back.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
Well, this is a SoundBite you probably want back to
this up, Uh shador Sanders has done some really stupid
things the last couple of weeks. Oh, by the way,
I need to give context to this. It just it
was just released that Shador Sanders makes the most of
any college football player in nil five point one million dollars.
(14:16):
That's what's being reported today. He makes money. He's essentially
a professional athlete, and he acts like an asshole on
the field and in press conferences. But Dion Sanders took
this tact yesterday.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
When I say I genuinely love these kids, I genuinely
really do. It's not about what they can do for
me on the football field, It's about what I can
help them with in life. Landscape has changed in football.
Once upon a time, you guys never attacked college players.
Now they're making more money than y'all, and some of
y'all are envious and jealous about that. So you're on
the tech. It was hands off a college player because
(14:52):
he's an amate You remember, remember that, guys, Now it's
hands on. Go at them any kind of way.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
You won't.
Speaker 7 (14:57):
They're making more money than me, and I'm mad about it.
When you attack, I can attack them attacking them, but
these guys are sensitive. They've never been attacked. They hadn't
gone through what a grown man, what I've been going
through with y'all for years. They haven't done that. So
it is what it is. I know you're going to
do your job and what you must do, but your
job does not say in attack the personal stuff. Leave
it to be personal, because we start flipping the script
(15:18):
on y'all. You wouldn't like it.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Hecky, he's thank.
Speaker 7 (15:20):
You Lord for stopping me to day. Oh that was
almost a good one. That would have went viral.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
What a what a what a complete clown. It's so
sad like what it's just it's awful. And he's doing
the thing that Donald Trump does. He's doing the thing
that all these people do. Like, what the fuck is
he talking about? Okay, what is he talking about? First
of all, in terms of whether amateurs or kids, he's
(15:48):
the k His son's a professional. Okay, sons a professional.
Second of all, even in the amateur days, what we're
what we're viewing with Shador Sanders is actually amateur hour. Hey,
I run a program. Hey Dion, here's the deal. You
want you want truth, here's the truth. If any of
(16:08):
my players act that way, guess what they won't be
doing They won't be playing in the next game. His
son acts like an entitled asshole. Why and I'm allowed
to say that? Do you know why? One I run
a program. Two, I'm a fucking human being. Three that's
not attacking him because he's a kid. He's putting himself
out there. If you act like an asshole, no matter
(16:30):
if it's now or in nineteen eighty two, we would say, like, God,
what's the matter with that kid? He's acting like an asshole. Secondly,
and I've told people that this was going to happen.
Once you start paying players, they do, in fact become professionals.
His son's the highest paid player in college football reportedly.
If you're gonna be a pro, you gotta act like
a pro, acting like a pro. And I talk to
(16:50):
this with my players all the time. Act like a
pro is in everything you do and to who much
is given, more is expected. And you're like, I've been
dealing with this. You welcome did And I want to
make sure this is clear. Dion Sanders is in any
conversation of the greatest football players ever. I'm old enough
(17:13):
to remember that Dion Sanders would come came out of
retirement with the Baltimore Ravens, and he was still fucking good.
He didn't tackle anybody, he didn't have to. He was
such an amazing cover corner. He was such an amazing athlete. Okay,
a really bright football player. He's a really bright man.
But he's manipulating this shit to where it's like, you
can act however you want. And if we say, like,
(17:34):
kind of acting like an asshole, you're like, whoa, you're
the media.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
You're so mean.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
You're like, like what media members aren't acting this way
because they're jealous of him? Like that's the fucking stupidest
thing ever. They're just not. You can't criticize an athlete
because he makes money, because that means you're jealous to somebody.
He makes more money than me. I can tell me
he acts like an asshole. Okay. I think what Dion
(18:00):
does on some level is brilliant. Okay, but then he
takes it to a step where it's fucking reprehensible. Brilliant
in that he shines a bright, shining light on his
kids on his program, he raises the profile, he fills
the stadium, all that, okay, But if you talk all
that shit and then you get beat or did you
get your ass kicked and you leave the field before
(18:22):
the game is over as they did Nebraska. Right, if
he was really really, if he was injured not hurt,
he wouldn't have played against Colorado State, So he was hurt.
What does hurt mean? Hurt means to go to the
trainer and when your name's going in Eden said he
left the field early. Why because he was fucking terrible?
And yes, his offensive line was terrible. And then when
(18:44):
he's in front of the media, he threw his offensive
line under the bus. And then after they win against
Colorado State and they played really well and he acts
like an asshole or the other quarterback. You can't fuck
with me, I don't shake hands with you like whatever.
Then you act like the media is what we create this,
so stop it, stop it. We're not that at least,
(19:09):
I'm not easily manipulated. I'm just not. Okay, this is
big boys shit, you know it, I know it, right.
No one's gotten personal with his other son's bankruptcy and
apparently not paying guys, what if that's not personal? Okay,
that's public information that came out that we as the
(19:29):
media need to cover we're not personal is we're not
covering your you know, what's happened in your personal life
or what's happened in his personal life. You're a football player,
that's a professional. If you act like an asshole, we
will point it out, at least I will, and to
not reprimand your player to not say, hey, we don't
(19:50):
act like that. The adage in coaching is you're either
coaching it or allowing it. He's doing both. Next, what else.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Cheryl swoops Dion Sanders or our guy Victor Robless for
trying to steal home.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
I'm gonna go Victor Roebliss, only in that his actions
affected the actual outcome of a game. Cheryl swoops is annoying.
She just is. Deon Sanders is annoying.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
He just is.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
But I have a guess they've already been on this
list before, and they'll be on this one again Roblez.
Hopefully he learns from his idiotic mistake.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Why why are we doing this? Because we can?
Speaker 6 (20:46):
Hey, Doug, we don't do this a lot in this segment,
but here's a callback because Tyreek Kill, the Dolphins receiver,
has made it more timely. Tyreek Kill quote tweeted something
this if you take a look at at cheetah. So,
there was a report that former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam
(21:07):
Newton was spotted at Dolphin's practice, per multiple reports. You
know the team's looking might be looking for a quarterback? Whatnot?
So report that Cam Newton was near Dolphin's practice. Ty
rekill Quote tweeted that with the message, this team already
has too many kids. I wonder if that has anything
(21:28):
to do with this SoundBite that we played on Monday.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
You a fucking car. You don't get no type of privilege.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
When you roll the window down and you roll a
window back up, Bro, don't do that.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
You can't do that.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
You put you puts you in.
Speaker 7 (21:43):
Danger, and you have to put yourself in that officer's position.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
You don't know what the hell is in that day.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Of car He's right, by the way, he's right. I
liked Tyreek Hills. It was funny Cam Newton, by the way,
you can't throw a football. That's why he's not not
playing football. So why can we play for you? Because
we can. That's it for the end the Bonus Podcast.
(22:08):
Check out the radio show every day three to sixty
three to five eastern twelve two Pacific. I'm Doug Gottlie.
This is in the Bonus
