Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug Gottlieb Show. Heres in
the Bonus with Doug gottli.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Show. With the Bonus Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio app Welcome in.
You know, there is something to be said for stability,
organizational stability, personal stability, team stability. And I think it's
fascinating what's happening abouty Adams wants to be traded. I

(00:32):
talk to people with the Raiders. That's gonna be facilitated. Again.
You know, we all think we know what his value is.
You know, I'm sure they're going to try and get
a first maybe set up for a second and it's
a one year rental for a very very talented player.
But again, I think, if we're honest with ourselves, that's

(00:53):
not actually the story here. Now, it'll be the story
like if he goes to the chief You're like, really,
and the likelihood that the Raiders trade the Chiefs is
not strong, although, you know, because it's not just that
you're trading to a division rival and the defending Super
Bowl champions and seemingly handing them another Lombardi Trophy, but
you're also trading for a low second round pick, right,

(01:15):
I mean, let's just be honest, the Chiefs are going
to finish with what at minimum thirteen wins, especially if
they get Devontae Adams. I mean, who knows, right, who knows?
So you're now handing them possibly possibly a division championship

(01:35):
in a high seat. But you're also, you know, subjecting
yourself to a lower draft pick, which is why I
think it's the Chiefs. It probably has to be a
first round pick, right, But even that's not really the point.
The point is that Aaron Rodgers Davante Adams were both
unhappy in Green Bay. They just were. And DeVante wanted
to play with Derek Carr and he wanted to get

(01:58):
back out to the West coast. And I'm sure like
Vegas is, and as a resident of Green Bay, like
I can understand that there may be some some personal
limitations on what you can do during the season. I
live here. It's beautiful here now, the Packers are everything.
But the reality is like it's the smallest town in

(02:20):
the NFL by a large margin. We all know this,
so it ain't like there's a ton of things to do.
And yeah, I mean, what are we doing here? If
that's I mean, that's more than just a little bit
important to you, you know, just it is. But Aaron
Rodgers is also not happy. Neither were happy, and both

(02:44):
went to organizations that have constantly been turned over, you know, constantly.
I mean he's played now, he's been there for a
couple of years. And think about the now, playing for
multiple coaches, played for multiple gms, you know, as Tom
telesco has come in and look at Aaron Rodgers. Now,
Aaron Rodgers has the same coach and the same GM

(03:08):
in year two. But the organization, the Jets have been
among the least stable organizations in all the NFL, constantly
changing coaches and they of course changed general manager. Now
you know something, it is just a lack of success.
But a lot of that is a lack of success
because you weren't getting stuff done. So I understand it'll

(03:30):
sound like you're saying the great, oh you're a Green
Bay guy now and the grass isn't always greener. Yeah,
some of that, but I think more of it is
is about organizational stability, you know. I mean, look, we
even had that with Tom Brady. Hey even had that
with Tom Brady. Yes, year one was amazing and they

(03:53):
won the Super Bowl, but after that it slowly began
to fissure apart. Why you had a coach and a
player that didn't in terms of their styles and how
much how hard they worked, didn't really seem to marry up.
And Tampa has been a team that has been in
a bunch of turmoil. It's a lot of that was
obviously before Brady got there. Now Brady is the best

(04:15):
possible example, but a lot of these other guys they
leave these solid, stable franchises and then they grow out happy.
You're like, why are you unhappy? Like, well, there's always
all this turnover, Like yeah, all you do is pay
attention to the history of that team, and I'll tell
you all you need to know. I mean, is anyone
surprised that the Raider thing didn't work out for Devon Adams?

(04:36):
Is anybody really surprised that so far the Jest thing
hasn't worked out for Aaron Rodgers? And I understand that.
You know, there was the famous quote, you know from
the Know the Patriots, which people hate that organizations win championships.
I don't think organizations win championships. But it's not players alone,

(04:57):
it's not coaches alone. It all works kind of hand
in hand. There are no clown organizations that constantly compete
for championships, right like the Niners haven't won one in
this incarnation, but it's clearly a well run organization top
to bottom because they're they're stable, they're always going to
be good, and they've had two different quarterbacks throughout this run. Again,

(05:20):
I'm not telling you organizations win championships, but I am
telling you that you're not winning a championship or consistently
competing for a championship unless you have a well run organization.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Let's get to the Fox set and now say every
day this time with the Doug Gottlieb Show. You on
Fox Sports Radio iHeartRadio app. We play for you a
previous portion of a Fox Sports Radio or Fox Sports
One show. Here's Colin Calvert and Joel Klatt talking about
Klen de Boor and Jalen Milroe.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Whether he's developing specifically the quarterback or he's molding the
offense to take advantage of what the quarterback can do best.
He does those two things as well as anybody in
the country. He won with a dual threat quarterback when
he was at Sioux Falls and won a national championship.
Michael Pennick turns into the best deep ball thrower I've
seen in college football maybe ever last season and now

(06:18):
got a credit Millrow too, because he's obviously he's obviously
committed himself to becoming a much better player. No, mill
Roll is a different player today, no doubt. I mean,
I last year you watched him, I didn't even think
NFL I would argue he could be a first pick
in the draft. Well, he's clearly the most dynamic player
on the field. When he's on the field, he's just

(06:39):
the most dynamic player. There was a beautiful deep ball
and he's starting to become a much better thrower.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, I mean, let's go overboard here. I do think
hellenen Bor is a really good coach and supposedly Milroe
hired a hired a quarterback coach in the offseason. He's
an explosive athlete. He's a great run but like, let's
not get caught up in the oh. He could be
the number one overall pick in the draft. Like, yeah, okay, okay,

(07:08):
a little much. So far, call it a little much.
Here's Dan Patrick talking about Deavante.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Adams right now. Davante Adams. Now you say he prefers
a trade. He didn't demand a trade. Now, maybe it's semantics.
It's a very nice way of saying I'd like to
get out of here. I don't know why he stayed
in the first place. When they traded Derek Carr. He
went there to play with Derek Carr's former college teammate.

(07:35):
Don't you think that he looked around and he sees
the quarterback room and goes, mmm, aiden, who Gardner? Huh,
this is the guy who played with Aaron Rodgers and
Derek Carr. Now, all of a sudden, you look around,
you're not going anywhere. You didn't get a quarterback in
the draft. I was surprised that he started the season

(07:58):
with the Raiders because I thought he would say, look,
let's just see what you can get for me. Let
me go someplace else. We're not going to be competing
this year. Now we have a situation where the trade deadline,
I believe is November fifth. He has a hamstring injury. Well,
you can't really say does he have one or maybe

(08:20):
it's just convenient. Maybe he doesn't want to play anymore
and it's a hamstring and it's day to day.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah, I think they've shut him down to trade him.
I don't think he's actually I think he might be hurt.
I don't think he's actually injured. But as we said
in the open, like, the story here is not just
of those players, but also of the whole idea that like,
it's the grass is always greener. Yeah, the grass is

(08:52):
always greener and it's not. And DeVante Adams and Aaron
Rodgers both went to unstable organizations and this is what happens.
Here's Rob Parker talking about Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Antonio Pierce is to be blamed for all of this.
Don't blame social media. Don't blame people blowing stuff out
of proportion, you know, like, oh the big deal, what
a Why would you as a head coach alienate your
star player. There's just no reason for it. This is

(09:26):
self inflicted. Everybody told me Rob g Antonio pears a
players guy, he's a former player, he bonds with the players.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
They all wanted him back.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
They told the raided don't interview anybody.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
We got our coach.

Speaker 5 (09:42):
We play hard for this guy.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
How could a guy knowing how hard.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
It is to play this game and all the other
stuff that goes on outside the building, why would you
stir it up and have that come from inside your
building from an other been the head coach?

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Uh? Why are we blaming Antonio Piers on them being bad?
They don't have a quarterback. They're the Raiders have been
run by like five different general managers over the past
seven years and the same number of coaches. Like, again,

(10:27):
I don't know if Antonio Pierce is gonna be good
enough as a head coach. I really don't. But like
Gardner Minshew is the starting quarterback. Now they're going to
an O'Connell. Like neither of those guys are a starter,
And where they were in the draft, it just didn't
make sense. They end up getting a really good player
in Brock Bauers in the draft, and I'm guessing next
year they'll try and get a quarterback like you gotta

(10:49):
be recently. Oh yeah, by the way, like they actually
won two games, haven't They won two games? Didn't they
beat Baltimore and Baltimore? Now is it falling apart? Sure?
I mean eventually water finds level. They're not very good,
but did you have expectations they were going to be good?
Did anyone think when they rolled out there with Gardner
Minshew and Ad O'Connell is their quarterbacks, that this is

(11:11):
a Raider team that was playoff ound. I disagree with Rock,
that's what the Fox says.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
I'd say. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Let's find out who or what is annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
And now it's your annoying.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
Hey, Doug. We've been doing this podcast for two years,
so I don't want any of our listeners to say
this is a Johnny Come Lately take by a sour
Dodger fan, because it really has nothing to do with
the Dodgers. Has to do with how stupid major League
Baseball is. I don't know if you guys have been noticing,
but it's a sport in rapid decline of relevancy. If

(12:05):
you don't believe me, just run your own national radio
show and ask me how many Major League Baseball topics
we covered this past year. I remember the star of
the league got into a gambling scandal. Scandal that same
star went fifty to fifty, and almost nobody talked about it.

(12:26):
So for the Major League postseason, they have decided to
not recede after the wildcard round. And they thought about it,
I think, and they didn't change it. I did some
digging this year because last year the Braves were the
number one seed in the National League and they got
beat by the by a wildcard. Two years ago, the

(12:48):
Dodgers were the number one seed in the National League
and they got beat by a wildcard. Last year, you
had a dog shit matchup between the Rangers and Dbacks
in a World Series. So your feature shared series of
your season had two teams that nobody cares about outside
of Phoenix and Dallas. Doug Gottlieb on his own radio

(13:09):
show two days ago forgot that the Diamondbacks were with
the World Series. All this speaks to how irrelevant the
league has becoming. So the league really needs a sho
Heo Tani v Aaron Judge this year. Dodgers Yankees World
Series Aaron Judge. Shoho Tani would be something that might
move the needle that might get them some eyes and attention,

(13:33):
but they continue to shoot themselves in the foot with
this receding thing. If you didn't notice, yesterday the Mets won.
The Mets beat the Brewers. They're the sixth seed in
the National League. If the Mets beat the Brewers in
their series, they will advance to not play the number
one seed. They will advance to play the number two seed.

(13:54):
For the third straight year, the number two seed will
play a lower seed than the number one. I complained
about it last year for the Braves and they lost.
I complained about it two years for the Dodgers. Everyone
called me a homer. Just complained about the Dodgers and
they lost. So this year, the Braves are lining up

(14:19):
to play the Phillies. I'm sorry, the Mets are lining
up to play the Phillies. If you want your best
teams to be on your biggest platform at the end
of the season, you should make it easiest for your
best teams to advance. Again major League Baseball shooting themselves

(14:39):
in the foot. And this has nothing to do with
me being a Dodger fan.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
I just you're right. They listen, they it's weird that
this is I don't want to say the hill they
die on. But this is a weird one because, by
my estimation, expanding the playoffs to the wild Card, especially
with this with the most recent expansion, was a virtual
guarantee of getting either the Yankees or Red Sox in

(15:07):
the playoffs. I mean, I think, I honestly think the
goal back when it was first expanded was can we
get the Red Sox and the Yankees both in the playoffs?
And then of course the Dodgers have had just such
dominance in the West. Now it's like, okay, we can
get all three. So I'm with you, Like, if you're
going to go all in and really try and help
the best teams be the best teams, especially the teams
that are most that have the most money, then yeah,

(15:30):
does anybody receive? I guess the NFL reseeds, right, They're
the ones that received. Does anybody else does? The NBA
doesn't reced. I don't believe. I can't.

Speaker 6 (15:38):
I can't recall the NHL recedes and the NFL receeds. Yeah,
the NBA is just locked in. And so I did
I did. I just did a little bit of research,
and I sent a text to John Morosi, like I
basically said to John, help me, help me, help me
do this, And this is what he says, Uh, there's

(16:01):
so very little time between rounds. If you get a
rain out, it's a scheduled disaster. The bracket allows series
to move forward independent of what happens in the other rounds.
And that's a much better explanation than what Major League
Baseball offered up. This is what Major League Baseball offers
up on its faq on MLB dot com. The number

(16:22):
one see will face the winner of the wildcard series
between the four and five, while the number two will
face the either the division winner or the sixth seed.
This ensures that the number one seed won't face another
division winner. That's a horrible explanation because if the division
winner wins, they would never face number one. Anyways, all

(16:44):
those would make sense if you actually looked at a chart.
It doesn't make any sense, and I don't accept Major
League Baseball's explanation. John Morose's explanation is kind of like
a schedule thing. But my thing is, if you're a
wildcard team, you should face the most interference. So if
you have to like fly across the country on a
last minute, yeah, that's what you get for being a

(17:05):
wild card team, and that should it should favor the
higher seat.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
That's annoying. I get it. I don't know if it's
the level of what we usually do with annoyings, but
it's interesting.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
Lebron James said something yesterday that I think gives away
his entire his entire intentions with Los Angeles. You know,
you and I have talked about this. You say this
all the time. Lebron James is in LA, but he's
not of Los Angeles. He's made very few attempts to
reach out to Laker fans. He says things on social

(17:42):
media and to the two reporters that kind of show
that he doesn't really care to have a relationship with
the Lakers fans. He's very much been a mercenary. He's
led the Lakers to a COVID championship, which I very
much dismissed, just like the Dodgers COVID championship. That was
just a weird thing and I don't really consider it
a championship. But whatever Lebron said yesterday, and this is

(18:07):
coming off of an offseason where they made zero impactful
moves and the only thing they did in the off
season that made news was that they drafted his son,
Bronni and then they gave Browny guaranteed money for a
second round pick, which was unusual. And this is what
he says yesterday. I don't have any expectations for this
team this year, and that's unfair to put any expectations

(18:31):
on us right now. The only thing that we can
count on is how we come to practice and how
we come to work every day. So, just to get
this straight, the most famous athlete in the world, the
biggest star on a Marquee franchise, is telling their fans
don't expect much this year. It should have been from

(18:53):
the get go. The Lakers need to win a championship.
That's the standard. Anything short of a championship is unacceptable.
That's what Lebron James should say. But I think he
gave away his cards in this in this answer. This
is Los Angeles has been kind of like a I'm
gonna go on a ride that suits me, I'm gonna
play with my son, I'm gonna get paid a lot

(19:15):
of money and not deliver a full season championship. I
don't know this hit my ear wrong, Doug.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
Did it?

Speaker 1 (19:22):
You?

Speaker 3 (19:23):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (19:23):
It?

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Definitely struck it as weird, like I don't have any
any goals. I mean, and again, isn't the goal always
to win a championship? Right? And it's just interesting. You know.
Then they had a they had a DJ at practice yesterday,
like what what? What is actually going on? And you
know there's the curiosity of JJ Reddick coaching, which I

(19:47):
don't think is as big a deal as as as
people you know, lay it out to be, because it
does allow Lebron to really use his knowledge. I just
I'm with you. I don't maybe maybe what what he's
exposing is exactly what you said, which is Lebron James.

(20:11):
You know he last year, remember he broke the all
time scoring mark, right, so that was whether it should
have been a goal or shouldn't have been a goal
that was clearly part of the plan. Now it's like
they accomplished the plan of having him play with his son,
Like now what right? So it almost feels like this
is a year which if they can be competitive, and

(20:32):
you know it's like every year we're here to no, well,
you know, this could be the year. D'Angel Russell, like
dude Dance Russell has been in the league a decade.
He's a he's not a good playoff basketball player. He's
just not like, I don't know what they're I don't
I don't get any of it. So yeah, I'm I'm
with you. I think it's very contradictory to the old
idea of Okay, if we're playing, we're playing to win,

(20:52):
and that clearly wasn't stated as the goal.

Speaker 6 (20:55):
The this this SoundBite is going to piss a lot
of our listeners off. I'm gonna I'm gonna forewarn you
it's going to piss you off. Okay, if you have
any sensibilities that mirror any of mine, it's gonna piss
you off. Megan Rapino and Sue Bird are married. They
do a podcast. Megan Rapino has takes on the WNBA

(21:17):
this past season. Remember we've been talking about it on
this podcast the last three or four weeks. Nobody is
less grateful for being more popular than the WNBA, and
Megan Rapino gives a little insight into why they're just
bitter babies. This was Megan Rapino to Sue Bird on

(21:38):
their podcast.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
This is where I feel like the players have been
failed the most by the media, and we've talked about that,
and they need to really objeck themselves and do a
better job and be better prepared to cover this league
in the way that it deserves. But I also feel
like they have been greatly failed by the league and

(22:01):
by Kathy the commissioner this year. Like you said, this
isn't new. This has been coming from the racism that
the South Carolina team has experienced in the last three
four years. That's been very explicit, and you know, sort
of in the consciousness, from the racism that Angel Rees specifically,

(22:21):
and that the LSU team has experienced in the college landscape,
and particularly the rivalry with Iowa. The you know, two
of the best teams in the country, with the biggest
players and the best storylines, and you have bona fide
superstars and Angel Rees and Caitlin Clark, which should have
been just an unbelievably exciting time where everyone can just

(22:42):
celebrate the explosion of women's basketball into a whole new stratosphere.
We all saw this, we all experienced it. We knew
this was coming. It's already been here. We knew it
was coming. This wasn't surprise, And not just the comments
that the commissioner made a few weeks ago, where she

(23:02):
basically implied that the racial tension is good for business
and invoking Magic and Bird. It's not good for business,
It's never good for business, and sort of sidestep the
question about racism and misogyny and hate that the players
are receiving online, basically saying like, you know, don't go
on social media or you know, it's it's sort of

(23:23):
not real.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Gosh, she's I mean, like, let me, let me just
go off here was that rapino? Is that superb?

Speaker 1 (23:29):
That was?

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Yeah? I mean she's fucking annoying, Like, let's just call it.
She's again. The first thing is, if you make the
assumption that everything's racist, everything's missides like there's just no
ability to have a conversation. And by the way, Magic
versus Bird changed the NBA, You fucking.

Speaker 6 (23:49):
Idiot, how much did it have to do with racism?
Doug Good? What maybe Magic.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
I mean, I'm I'm sure there's a percentage of the
white black whatever, Okay, But again, I don't actually think
Magic Bird was racism. Magic has always been beloved always,
There's never been a tinge of racism in Magic Bird,
like he happens to be black. Magic Johnson is one

(24:16):
of the most beloved sports figures ever. There was never
any hate ever towards Magic Johnson. Okay, and here's the problem.
These idiots live in this world of social media where
you have people, a very small percentage of people that
are fucking trolls, and they just say stuff. If you
think that's the reality of society, there's again it can't

(24:37):
help you, can't help you, right, Iowa LSU was a
celebration in the sport. The only people making it racist massages.
All these other fucking idiots are mega repino. She's incredibly annoying,
but she does speak to I like, did you see
the what's your name? Uh? What's the name of the

(24:58):
MVP league a Asia Wilson. Have you ever seen that
video of her telling Kelsey Plum that like they're watching
Page Becker's like, yeah, she's privileged like you, and yet
she's pretty good. Like what Like these people are so
fucked up. They're so fucked up. It's not honestly like

(25:19):
I'm getting upset because that's what they think. Like literally,
it doesn't matter who you are. If you're a white
especially a white male, you're a racist and a misogynist
and even if you well, you know, fall down and
bow at the feet of these people, then you have

(25:39):
to apologize, not for your upbringing, your behavior, like what
it's literally insane o talk. I mean, look, the far
right is fucking nuts, They're insane. The far left, which
is what you're are fucking insane. And it's just an

(26:00):
annoying that we continue to amplify the very minuscule comments
of people who don't fucking matter and not say Mega
Orupino although these comments don't matter. I'm talking about, you know,
the hate they get on social media, Like what the
fuck are you supposed to do? Like your commissioner of
a league is supposed to be, like, well, you know,
we got to ban people and chart hard them and
feather than Like no, you just keep going, just keep

(26:20):
stacking money, just keep feeling renas, just keep getting better.
Don't fucking worry about those people. But Repina's annoying, dude,
she wins, goodbye.

Speaker 6 (26:30):
Hey, Doug. If so. Jackie Robinson, everyone knows the story
of Jackie Robinson, those horrific stories of racism in the
forties and fifties. Yes, what was Jaque Robinson? What what if?
What if Jackie Robinson just stop and said, we need
to we need to end this. This is not acceptable.
The racism is just not acceptable. What does that even mean?
Like you're going to eradicate a portion of our our

(26:54):
culture that is reprehensible, but it exists, like and in
my way, it was much worse back then. And I
wish that the w NBA players today that are that
are they're getting their feelings hurt because of social media
media exchanges. Maybe they should go and read the book
on Jackie Robinson and maybe they'd feel a little bit,
well a little bit.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Let's I agree. I agree in that, like what we
think is racism now is like fucking stupid in comparison
to that ship, right, I mean legit like that was
like legit racism. And the other part to it is
these people become racist against white people. It's like, what,
just just treat people with respect to be a good

(27:34):
person and let's move on, Mega Opino. Why are we
doing this because we can?

Speaker 6 (27:49):
Hey, Doug, I need to give credit to Mike Florio
and Pro Football Talk. I know they could be annoying
over there, but they did something fun today. They kind
of they kind of figured out a So remember when
Tom Brady was a free agent. Before he picked the Bucks,
there was a team that he was interested in playing for,

(28:10):
and then at some point they said, no, we're just
gonna stick with our guy. And then Brady went on
the shop and said something very funny to Lebron and
the guys about that one team. Well, it looks like
the Bears were the team that said we'll stick with
our guy. And who was our guy? It was Mitch Chibitski.

(28:31):
And this was Tom Brady from the shop back when
they made that decision.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
There was a story in free agency at one of
the teams they were interested and all of a sudden
they weren't interested.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
At the very end, I was sitting there thinking, you're
sticking with that motherfucker.
