Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, this is the Doug gottlie Show. Heres in
the bonus with Doug Gottlieb.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome in, Welcome in.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
You know, there's there's this there's this discussion about free speech,
which is really interesting, you know, And I think one
of the things that people fall back on is we
don't really know what it means. We just don't, you know,
because I've seen it's it's really ironic to me, right

(00:42):
Elon Musk who he tries to act like X, which
is really Twitter X is some like making a free
speech when what's what's happened is he's allowed so many
infiltrators to the media industry to promote fake stories, and
it's really it's kind of a scary place to exist.

(01:04):
Now again, full disclosure, I exist on social media. I
still use it as a news feed. I still communicate
with people on it. Like, I don't think it's the
worst thing on earth, but I do think that it
has created is misrepresented what news actually is.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
So many times over that we're like, are we kidding? Now,
avery kidding?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
But free speech is not actually free. You are free
to speak your mind against the government and and and
the things that they do, but you're not free of repercussions.
I bring that up because there are there is speculation
that one of the reasons Robert Slid was relieved of
his duties. Yeah, he had a patch of the Lebanese
flag on his shirt. Now, Lebanese flag is not the

(01:49):
Palestinian flag, although there are some similarities to it, and Lebanon,
which is home to his Bellah, is obviously part of
this Israeli war, Israeli conflict, and I think we are
we're just jumping all over ourselves to try and figure out, like,

(02:10):
how could this be done. First thing is, I don't
actually think that's why he was fired, Okay, I don't
actually think it has anything to.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Do with it.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Second thing is, even though people will say you're entitled
to free speech, it doesn't mean you're free your ramifications.
And if it was Elebanies flag and he was told
unconditionally not to wear it, and he wore it as
a direct as a direct contradiction to what he was

(02:41):
asked not to do, then that can be a fireable offense.
And now if it was mistaken for a Palestinian flag
also up for debate. But you can in fact fire
somebody for wearing something you told them explicitly not to wear.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Do I think it'd be extreme a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
But also keep in mind, yes, yesterday was the anniversary
of the October seventh attack on Israel, so there's a
certain time sensitivity. I said this before even go back
to the days when people were kneeling for the national anthem,
you're allowed to kneel. I would never do it. I
wouldn't like I wouldn't let my kids do it. But

(03:18):
if you felt so compelled to do so as a as.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
A speech, you can't.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
September eleventh, I thought, was a different day in which
you do not do that.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Unequivocally, you do not do that.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Why because September eleventh you're memorializing those who died representing
our country as firefighters and police officers or people.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Just going to work. It was a very very scary time,
and you don't.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
So the point of this is I think Robert solid
was fired because Aaron Rodgers like, this guy's a dope,
he doesn't know what he's doing. Get rid of him.
We still got a chance to save this season, That's
my guess. And I'm not sure that Aaron Rodgers isn't
right in terms of his head coaching, although his defense
has been very good good And I don't know if
Aaron Rodgers should have that power considering his lack of

(04:05):
time substance with the New York Jets. But if you
ask yourself, could a guy be fired for wearing a
flag of somebody who is the enemy of the United
States or the enemy of the free world?

Speaker 2 (04:17):
And I don't think Lebanon is. You know, most people.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Believe has the la placed there by Iran, that the
Lebanese people themselves which need to break free of it.
Like there's a lot bigger discussion than a.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Sports radio podcast.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
But yes, you could absolutely be fired for wearing something
you were told explicitly not to wear, something that's widely offensive.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Doug Gottlieb
Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Let's let's get to what the Fox says and now
Fox say every day, this time in the bonus podcast.
You know, the Doug Gottlieb Show. Fox Sports Radio play
for you a previous portion of Fox Sports Radio Fox
Sports One show we call But what does the Fox say.
This is Colin Cowher talking about or reacting to the
firing of Robert Sola.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
And we warned you if you go to London where
Woody Johnson was the former ambassador to UK, he's got
all his bougie billionaire buddies in the stadium, ex Jet
Sam Darnold beats you, something's gonna happen, and it did
this morning. So in the moment for all you alphas

(05:29):
out there, it feels good. Yeah, it's like going to
the batting cage when you're in a bad mood. Take
a few whacks. Somebody's got to pay for this. Congrats,
you just fired the most competent coach on your staff.
Nat Hackett is probably the worst OC in the league.
He's still there because Aaron makes sure he's there. So

(05:53):
this will be the fifth head coach, head coach, interim
coach in eleven years. Does it sound like a well
run business? If you owned a company you're on your
fifth CEO in eleven years, would you be a well
run company?

Speaker 3 (06:09):
I would say no, you would not be a well
run company, no question about it. And this is what
we talked about with Davante Adams and with Aaron Rodgers similarly, right,
like you know it's the grasses isn't always greener. But look,
I have to tell you, I understand Robert sala is
a very good defensive coordinator. I agree with Colin on
Nate Hackett not being able to hacke it like even
Aaron Rodgers, like, hey, get the play in on Sunday.

(06:33):
But I also don't think Robert sala is particularly good
head coach. And that's been related to me by others.
It's just odd. You know, I get that you don't
want to change offense. You're not going to change offenses
mid stream in what I feels like it's going to
be Aaron Rodgers last year. But yeah, this is a
This is a weird one, especially Coincyrian the timing. Something

(06:54):
had to happen. There had to be some sort of meeting,
whether it's between sala and Aaron Rodgers or whether it's
between Aaron Rodgers and ownership.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Something had to happen. Here's Brady Quinn.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
He said this about the Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski
taking the blame for the offensive woes of the team.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Can we stop making excuses for Deshaun Watson what good
moments has he had none? And can we stop though?
Like someone will post a photo of one drop and
be like, there it is is wide receivers don't have
his back man the cat stop the offensive? What seven sacks?
Go back and watch the tape? How many of those
did he bring on himself? How many times he's running

(07:34):
around scrambling when he's in a clean pocket he could
step up and make a throw, or how about this,
here's a novel, throw the football away like it's unbelievable.
This is a Deshaun Watson issue dating back to even
when he was a pro bowler in Houston, even when
he was a pro bown in Houston. He dealt with

(07:56):
this in twenty eighteen. He's a pro bowler. He actually
led the league in sacks that year. He led the
league in sack yards as well, which means he's running
back out of the pocket horizontally. He's not even trying
to get up to the line of scrimmage. So spare
me the excuses. I'm tired of it at this point.

(08:18):
This team's too talented. You have a coach and won
Coach of the Year last year. We watched an offense
that was operating better with a guy who wasn't even
on the roster to start the season at quarterback.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
I mean, yes, Deshaun Watson is the issue I won't
point out and Brady said it really eloquently in that
people who think Deshaun Watson was Lamar Jackson, he was,
and he's more Ben Roethlisberger than he is Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
But he's a big part of the problem.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
And there's just bad just seems to be bad mojo
with him at quarterback. It's like, even if he is
at times in which he is good, it doesn't feel
like anybody wants to cheer for him. I mean, this
thing has become an absolute albatross, that contract, and you
know that's one of the reasons they couldn't even make
a play for Joe Flacco, who's proven once again to
be good this year in India. Here's Dan Patrick talking

(09:12):
with former All Pro wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald about Davante Adams.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
What do you think is going on with Devontae Adams? Like,
how did this end poorly with the Raiders? After I
know that Derek Carr got sent to the Saint or
he went to the Saints and that's who he wanted
to play with, but now he wants out. How do
you think this plays out?

Speaker 7 (09:33):
I think you gets you to a point in your
career where you start looking around and you start evaluating truthfully, like,
do I have a chance to win here? You know,
I'm a Hall of Fame receiver, you know, most prolific,
most prolific player of my generation probably, And like, I
want to win.

Speaker 8 (09:49):
I want to win a championship.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
I want to play in meaningful games in November, December
or January and eventually have a chance to play in
the super Bowl.

Speaker 8 (09:56):
And quite frankly, then you would agree with this. They
don't have it. They don't have that ability in uh
in Las Vegas right now.

Speaker 7 (10:02):
And you know, I understand that he wants to you
want to play mediful games.

Speaker 8 (10:07):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 6 (10:10):
Did you face the same situation at any point in
your career with with Arizona?

Speaker 8 (10:16):
Yeah, But I'm I'm I'm I'm very different.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
You know.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Everybody handles these situations, you know, in a way they
feel is best for themselves. And so I respect his
desire to want to go, you know, be on a contender.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Yeah, I mean I get it, But did he really
think the Raiders were a contender when he went there.
He might have been the only one that's really the
thing there. But again, just like Aaron Rodgers, you go
to a dysfunctional organization after one which may be conservative
and maybe lame and dull, but that process seemed that
that way of doing it seems to work a lot

(10:54):
better than how they've done it in Vegas, in Oakland
and in la with the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
That's what the Fox said.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
I'd say, be sure to catch live editions of The
Doug Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Let's find out what's annoying Jason Stewart.

Speaker 9 (11:16):
And now it's your annoying, Hey, Doug. Manny Machado is annoying.
Dodger fans have a history with Manny Machado, So in
twenty eighteen we rented him mid season at the trade deadline,
and Manny Machado went on to have kind of an

(11:39):
average rest of the year, but we made it to
the World Series and then if a lot of Dodger
fans remember this, maybe like casual fans, don't he hit
a ball off the Wall and a World Series game
against the Red Sox and got a single, and when
he was criticized for it, he told Dodger fans, don't

(12:00):
expect me to be Charlie Hustle. Yeah, Manny Machado. I
was always taught this. This is what I teach my
little leaguers. If you hit a ball that might go out,
run fast in case it doesn't. Manny Machado has the
inverse thought. I'm gonna sit here and pimp this thing

(12:22):
in case it goes out, and then if it doesn't
go out, I get a single, and then I could
tell my fans that don't expect me to be Charlie Hustle.
We hated him, We didn't have any interest in resigning him.
He resigned with the Padres and made a bet with
a fan on cell phone that he would win a

(12:43):
World Series with the Padres before the Dodgers won a
World Series in twenty twenty. As much as I dismissed
the championship, we won a World Series well before. He
has touched one. Manny Machado. It was very much among
the profoc tours the other night that led to that
mayhem at Dodger Stadium. And he also personally made sure

(13:09):
that he uh, I don't know, got into it with
a Dodger, the Dodger pitcher Flaherty, and then I guess
threw a ball after he was taken infield, threw a
ball towards the Dodger dugout that somehow came close to
Dave Roberts. That's unclear by the video. So Dave Roberts

(13:32):
was asked about it yesterday. And knowing Dave Roberts, he's
a sweet guy and he never really wants to bring
attention to things like this, so you think that he
would just be like, you know what, I didn't see it.
You know, we're all wrapped up in the competition. Tensions
were high, but you know we're just going to try
to beat him on the field instead. He said this, Well, I.

Speaker 10 (13:50):
Didn't notice it at the time. I really didn't. I
didn't notice it. I did see the video. It was
it was unsettling. Obviously have relationship with Manny from from
years past. There was intent behind it. It didn't almost
hit me because there was a net and that was
very bothersome. It's if it was intended at me, i'd

(14:13):
be very it's it's it's it's pretty disrespectful. So I
don't know his intent. I want to speak for him,
but I did see the video and the ball was
directed at me with something behind it, So but I
don't know what led to that. I didn't see it
in real time, but I did see the video.

Speaker 9 (14:31):
Okay, So those comments were all over Twitter last night,
and Dodger fans were really eating it up. You know,
Manny will talk about it, and I'm sure he'll deny it.
I'm just going to say this. He undoubtedly threw towards
the dugout. He undoubtedly tried to provoke somebody. There's no
question about it. This guy has a history of this.
He's a he really is like a what do you

(14:52):
call bush league player, somebody that, when given the opportunity,
will do something that's not ethical. So Ani Machado is
annoying for many reasons, the latest being that I guess
he threw a ball towards our manager.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Yeah. Man, he's a lot man, and it's like, what
do you like? What are you doing?

Speaker 3 (15:16):
And even if you're like ah, it's it's one of
those things where I guarantee, when confronted about it, maybe like, well,
I just messed around, you know, but it's like, what's
what's the end gaming, what's the win here?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
What you're doing? Yeah, I've never been a manny guy.
I do know.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
The stories out of San Diego is that he's changed,
he's a great leader, he's a winner now, et cetera,
et cetera. I just these are the type of things
that that feel like he's really a dick. And that's
how he handled himself during his short time with the Dodgers,
That's how he handled himself upon his departure for the Padres.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
That's what it felt like. This says who else.

Speaker 9 (15:55):
A anonymous Eastern Conference scout was quoted by ESPN today
They did this kind of survey of NBA gms, and
the anonymous NBA Eastern Conference scout said, uh, that, Bronni James,
You're set up for failure. It's like, what's the expectation

(16:17):
here exactly? And this is very consistent, I think with
your opinion about this, and my opinion has been that
this is this is a side show, this is the
drafting Bronni was something cool to do for Lebron James.
I'm cool with that. If that's If that's the reasoning.
I'm cool with that, but the Lakers haven't admitted to that.

(16:37):
I guess they can admit to it, so you they're
going through the actual motions like he's a real NBA player.
And I think what this scout is getting to is,
I think the last kid, the last person considered this
is Bronni. This has been done for the for Lebron
and maybe to put some a few butts in the
seats for the Lakers, But like, what what's the plan

(16:59):
for Broun here developmentally? I think you know you made
ways when you said that you don't know if you
would start for your team at Green Bay. I think
you've also said that he would have been better off
transferring somewhere else and playing another season of college basketball.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Yeah, well for playing for Joyce is one of his
closest friends, you know, one of his childhood friends, and
as the new head coach at.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
New head coach at no At Duquane.

Speaker 9 (17:30):
Yeah, so that's kind of the annoying part about this.
And I think this scout is hitting on something like,
what's the plan for this kid? After you have that
photo op of him being in a real game with
his dad, What's what's next, what's going on here?

Speaker 2 (17:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
I agree with you, and I agree with the scout obviously.
It's like, you know, Lebron just he's he's that dad
that we thought he might be, you know, which is
and people give hi passe like, well, you know, he's
there and he's showing up for his kid, like that's great.

(18:07):
But I don't understand how that allows you to just
you know, do whatever you want because it's your kid.
You know, that's great. Congrats on being an actual parent.
That's amazing. I mean, I'll tell you right now, like
the hardest thing about this job for me is my
son is in a different state. That's incredibly difficult, and

(18:29):
I try and show up for him as much as
I can so, but you know, it doesn't give you
carte blanche to be able to put a guy on
an NBA team and make him play when he's just
not there. It ends up doing the opposite of the
intended effect.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
And I just this.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
I think Lebron has the opinion that he'll level up
to wherever you play him, and I don't think that's
gonna happen.

Speaker 9 (18:53):
The Chiefs are annoying. I've stated that I am very
interested in watching them win a third straight Super Bowl.
That story I'm interested in. I'm rooting for them to
do that if it doesn't come at the expense of
the Chargers. But it's really kind of annoying to watch
this game last night. Again, nothing impressive at all about
the Chiefs offensively anyways. I don't think they scare anybody anymore.

(19:15):
I think defense is for the most part, have kind
of figured them out. But for them to just plug
in a couple old dudes Juju Smith Schuster and Kareem
Hunt and for them to have like very productive games,
it really is annoying. It shows you that no matter what,
the Chiefs just keep coming up with ways to win.
They're undefeated. Not a very impressive u uh undefeated by

(19:38):
the way, but they are undefeated. And they just watching
these two guys go off last night, it's like, really,
that's annoying.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Yeah, I get it, I mean I would. I'm going
to completely disagree with you. And it's not impressive. What's
not impressive about being NF the teams that are playing against, sure,
but the fact that you look around the NFL at
who many of these teams they have lost to you
and you're like, wait, what, So, yeah, I'm gonna I
actually do think it's impressive. I think it's pretty awesome

(20:10):
that they just find ways to win, and then they
keep bringing back guys that had played me and Juju
Simmis Schuster, nobody else wanted, but for them, he fits
because he knows where he's supposed to be, what he's
supposed to be doing.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
I think it's pretty cool.

Speaker 9 (20:22):
So the Chiefs are annoying, the browny situation's annoying, and
then Manny Machado's annoying. Those are the three candidates to that.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Let's see here, who many Machado.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
I'm gonna say, Manny Machado throwing a ball your old manager,
like what are we doing? And just the you know,
being an instigator in an already heated rivalry. Yeah, that's
douchebag stuff. And as a former Dodge and like, look
it's Dave Roberts. Like Dave Roberts is the least offensive
manager in all of baseball. Generally seems like a pretty

(21:05):
straight shooting, good dude. So yeah, I'm gonna go, Manny Machado.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
You are.

Speaker 8 (21:13):
Why are we doing this?

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Because we can.

Speaker 9 (21:20):
He Doug no pun intended. This is such a thrill
to have Will Clark in this segment. Will Clark is
a guy that I emulated his swing everybody did. He's
maybe the most natural, best swing in the history of baseball. Yeah,
I know, no, you stand usual fans are gonna really
complain to me, But I would say Will Clark is

(21:43):
and he has thoughts on the Giant, the current Giants
firing their GM and their vice president.

Speaker 11 (21:51):
Look, the reason that these guys have managed in the
big leagues for fifteen to twenty years. They know Dusty
Baker knows all right, They know exactly what's going on
in their clubhouse, and they have gut instincts on things,
and you need to stick with their gut instincts. Not
everything is statistical. And while I'm talking about that, all

(22:14):
of you statistical guys that are in the fucking San
Francisco Giants organization, you better watch your ass too, because
you fuckers might be gone as well.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Tough shit.

Speaker 11 (22:24):
There you go.

Speaker 8 (22:25):
There's my rank for a little bit.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Love Will Clerk, love the honesty. This is pretty good stuff.
Like can we play for you?

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Because we can. That's it for the end of the
Bonus podcast.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
I got the Radio Show three to five Eastern, twelve
to two Pacific, Fox Sports Radio, iHeartRadio APP.
