Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're boom. What Up America? Doug Gottlieb Show Live in
direct from the City of Angels. NFL season is here,
Pat's Chiefs. Tonight's Tonight, Foxboro Gillette Stadium. We'll cover it,
we'll talk about it, We'll get to it. Dion Branch
(00:21):
is gonna join us. Plus college football Meaningless game tonight,
better game tomorrow. An incredible weekend of games in front
of US. Lamson, Auburn, Georgia, note trod usc Stanford, Ohio
State taken on Oklahoma. We got great, great games this weekend.
(00:43):
Plus the NFL uh first weekend is just littered with games.
I'll give you some of my picks in terms of
the upcoming season, some of the underrated teams and overrated
teams in the upcoming NFL season. We got a lot
to get to. But what was the story of the
night is still the story of the day. It's Michael
Bennett who had a press conference for the Seattle Seahawks
(01:05):
and claimed that he was racially profiled, and that story
became Twitter fader. In fact, the commissioner of the National
Football League, Roger Goodell, actually released a statement to which
he supported Michael Bennett. The Seattle Seahawks supported Michael Bennett.
You know who doesn't support Michael Bennett's claims. That would
(01:26):
be the Las Vegas Police Department. Yesterday, Kevin um mcmayhill,
who is the under sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan
Police Department, said quote, I can I can tell you
as I stand here today, there is no evidence of
that that being racially profiled. I see no evidence that
(01:46):
race played any role in this incident. Remember, in his statement,
Michael Bennett not only said that he was racially profiled,
he said it took an eternity due to the brutal
way in which officers treated him. Mcmahill said that the
defensive end was in ste approximately ten minutes, then released.
In the ten minutes in which he was detained. He was.
(02:07):
The reason he was detained was explained to him by
a supervisor who was on duty. And look, here's the thing,
and this relates to Ezekiel Elliott, and it also relates
to the protest which I think you're gonna see in
the nation football. They're gonna want to get to it.
A couple of things I tell people all the time.
(02:28):
There are no more secrets, only effects. Yet to be revealed.
One of the facts that has been revealed that has
a lot of people bothered is the fact that the
officer who was arresting him did not turn on his
body camera. Now in the in the middle of nowhere
in rural Mississippi, or in Oklahoma, or even California, in Eureka, California,
(02:50):
where there aren't cameras anywhere, that might have been a problem.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, when an incident occurs starting in
a casino and then goes out into Las Vegas, Bolvard,
Flamingo Bull part and and the strip, this is not
an issue. It's just not. There are cameras everywhere in Vegas.
Everybody knows that. But one of the problems with cameras
(03:13):
is depending on what you see or where you might
see what, you're not getting the full context. And the
Las Vegas Police Department and the Las Vegas Police Union,
they are going to the mattresses against Michael Bennett going
to the mattresses. Uh, look, it's really kind of remarkable,
(03:46):
remarkable what's happened. The Las Vegas Police Union obviously not
a fan of the protests for the for the national anthem.
Uh there there quote that everyone's gonna be reacting to.
While while the NFL may condone and it's disrespect for
our national for our American flag and everything it simplizes,
we hope, uh the league will not ignore Bennett's false
(04:07):
accusations against our police officers. Look, here's what they're saying happened,
and Michael Bennett is not actually disputing that. He is
disputing the fact that they arrested him or didn't even
rest him. They they handcuffed him only because he's black.
And they're like, look, we got footage. We thought there
(04:27):
was an active shooter inside a casino. This is a big,
big thing. Our police officers go into a casino, we
see a guy crouched behind a game of machine and
then when when they believe when they when he saw them,
he went he ran for it. Which, by the way,
I'm just gonna tell you, I don't know how I
(04:48):
would react in a casino if there was a shooting.
Do you know how you'd react. I don't. I don't
know how i'd react if there was an active shooter.
I don't know what I would hide behind, don't know
where I would hide. I don't know if I would run,
if I would run. I think if I would run
out with zig zag, wouldn't you wunch zig zag and
then right back kind of weave back and forth, thinking
(05:10):
if the guy shoots, that will miss. I don't know.
So I actually think that even though even though police
officers came in and we're trying to identify a potential
shooter at the scene of a potential crime, and they
walk in completely blind, I don't think Michael Bennett's reaction
(05:32):
is unreasonable. You hide behind something big and metal, hoping
it deflects any bullets to come your way, and then
if you see an opening the exit, you make a
run for it. That's reasonable. I also would tell you
it's kind of reasonable for the cops to think, hey,
this guy sees us, he's running from us, maybe he
has something to do with what took place. Also reasonable.
(05:56):
And while you may be bothered by the way in
which they handcuff potential suspect by putting their knee, their
knee in his back. He's six pounds, it's not like
they can sit there and go, um, sir, could you
please put your hands behind you so that we can
just lightly put these handcuffs on. That's not the reality
(06:17):
of how police officers are trained or how they should
in fact do their job. They try and contain a situation,
try and understand who the actual perpetrators are, if a
crime actually existed. And then once you figure out this
guy is not a criminal, you'll let him go, which
is what they said they did. But the NFL, the Seahawks,
and most importantly Michael Bennett, there's egg on his face
(06:39):
once they release more tapes because they have them, Like,
I'm not I do. I think that the union is
always going to come out and defend their officers, probably
just like the NFL p a UH defends their players
even when they do something wrong. That's where the NFL.
But that's what unions do. When the police department says, hey,
we don't see anything you have to do with racial profile.
(07:01):
We don't see it. We've reviewed the tapes. The department
knows that's potential for a lawsuit if they are in
fact lying or making it up or making misstatements. They
understand the political climate and they're willing to go out
there and put their under sheriff out there and go like, hey,
that didn't didn't happen that way. We have video footage.
It wasn't an eternity that he was detained for. It
was ten minutes. We have the time stamp on it.
(07:23):
It might have felt like an eternity. It might have
felt like he thought that he was brutalized by police,
but this is actually what happens when you're handcuffed. Sorry,
not sorry, we're just doing our jobs. By the way,
police officer is in fact the worst job you can
ever have. It just is. I know there are benefits,
(07:45):
I know their post career benefits, but no, you know,
like God bless police officers, the good ones especially um,
it's the worst job. The second worst job, I believe
is the person who works in the baggage claim h office. Right,
no one ever goes into the baggage claim office at
an airport. What to just say? Hey man, thanks man,
(08:08):
doing a good job. Like no one says that you
only go in there if you have lost your luggage.
It's the only time you go in there. And when
you lost your you lose your luggage, you're pissed, aren't you.
And you're gonna blame the guy who or lady who's
behind the counter, and they had nothing to do with it.
They've never seen, they've never touched, they've never even approached
your bag. They don't know your name, they know your flight,
they know anything about. Their whole job is to be
(08:29):
a buffer between them and your anger towards the airline.
And by the way, the airline didn't have anything to
do with it. It was the baggage handlers or maybe
something got miss routed. Right. That's the second worst job.
Worst job is police officer. Here's the thing, this is
like the Ezekie Elliott thing. I, like everybody who has
(08:50):
any soul in America is anti domestic violence, but I
don't actually I think there's an off here to think
that Ezekie Elliott may not have done what he was
accused of doing. Right, So I can be anti domestic
violence but say I don't think you should suspend a
(09:12):
Zeke Elliott. I can be anti police brutality and say
I don't think this is police brutality or racial profile.
Do you do you understand that you can still be
pro something but think this doesn't actually fit what we're
fighting against. And as we get ready for an NFL
(09:36):
season where players are going to throw their support blindly
behind Michael Bennett, Las Vegas police department, in addition to
the unions, like we've got a hundred twenty cameras. It
didn't go down that way. Either Michael Bennett wants attention
or he doesn't know how this goes down. He's not
being reasonable. He waited two weeks to make these accusations
(09:56):
and make it look bad. And oh yeah, by the way,
he happens to bring this negative at mentioned to police
where it doesn't actually exist. This is a bad look
for everybody who through support behind Bennett blindly. But that's
what we do with social media, so we do twitter mobs,
social media mob. They're out the Las Vegas police party,
(10:17):
a bad bad, bad bad But or they walked into
a situation where they didn't know friend or foe. As
I said yesterday, it's not like they're wearing jerseys. Oh
good guys wearing the red jerseys. Tonight, bad guys were
in the white. They handcuffed suspect who was running from
them and when they got the information they needed, they
(10:38):
released him. All right, give me your thoughts upcoming. We'll
take some phone calls in the show. You can always
tweet us at Gottlieb Show. Um, we always concentrate on
the team that loses in the big upset. Right. We
always talked like like when Baylor loses to Liberty, We're like, oh, other,
(11:01):
I sure hope Matt Rule has a long term contract. Baylor.
This Baylor that. What about Liberty going into Baylor and
getting a win. We'll catch up with their head coach
and find out how he was able to pull off
the upset that upcoming next. But first, you've been waiting

Doug Otlib Show, Fox Sports Radio, Do Do Do Do
(12:52):
Do Do? I had a buddy who texted me and
he's like, you, you're not turned into Clay Travis Jr.
Like No, I like I think it's I think look
at anybody's anti police brutality. I don't like anyone who's
in a position of power taking advantage of that power.
It's the same thing with Congress, right, or the president
(13:17):
or my bosses at both Fox Sports Radio or Fox
Sports TV. Like, if you're in a position of power,
I want to guard against uh, people having absolute power
because absolute power corrupts absolutely right, there has to be
checks and balance. Our government has to be checks and balances,
and look, there are There have been plenty of cases
(13:38):
of either racial profiling or police brutality. And it is
a very reasonable stance to be like, look, we gotta
stop this, we gotta start talking to each other more.
But I also think that it's also very reasonable and
possible to think that in this particular incident, Michael Bennett
feels like he's exaggerating what what happened to him. That's it.
(14:08):
It's no exaggeration to point out how big a win
it was for Liberty. Over the weekend, they go in
to Baylor and pull off a huge upset. Matt Rules
the new head coach at Baylor. He comes from Temple
where he turned that program around. Turner Gilds the head
coach at Liberty. And if you don't know, Liberty is
the largest evangelical Christian university in the world. So you
(14:30):
have the largest Baptist school in the country. Um, that's
Baylor against the largest Evangelical Christian school in the world.
It's a huge online program with Liberty Liberty Flames. They
go in and beat Baylor. And it's interesting because I
think so much of the discussion after an upset is
about the team that lost, Like Texas loses to Maryland.
(14:50):
At home, people don't talk about Maryland and what they're
trying to do there. They talk about Texas. Same thing
with Baylor. Well, the job that Matt Rule has to do.
Let's talk about Liberty for a second. Tour of Gills
our guest, he's the head coach of the Liberty Flames.
He joins this fresh off that that huge upset. Coach,
how are you doing? Great? Good dog, how are you
doing today? I'm good. Um, there has been and I
(15:11):
don't know if you've experienced this. Obviously it's different when
you're in the confines of of your campus, right, but
I think nationally a lot of people discussed the team
that lost in the upset, not the team that won.
Have you experienced that, well, I think, uh, you know,
probably little bit more from our perspective, we've we hear
more about us than the other team from Nara. So
(15:32):
again we not know to how the national news that
don't keep up with all that stuff. But again we
we definitely think for the opportunity that we be able
to explain a little bit more about our brand, the
Liberty brand, and what our institution stands for. Like you mentioned,
are the largest Christian university in the world. Evangelical man,
we hope we can gather all the Protestants and be
a part of this school, in this university. That's great. Uh.
(15:52):
It's interesting because for people remember Turning Gail played quarterback
at Nebraska once upon a time. People think he'd thought
he'd be the next head coach Nebraska went out, turned
Buffalo's poke around, and then took the Kansas job. And
obviously that was where we as we were last Uh
kind of um thought of you and major college had
head coach. It's a tough tough job at KU. You
(16:13):
take the Liberty job to to re establish yourself. Why Liberty,
Why was it a good fit for you? Well, the
faith based evangelical Christian values, and they wanted to go
up from the FCS level to the FBS level. When
they hired me, uh, they told me, you want to
play a tougher schedule. They wanted me to assist them
to try and to get to the highest level. They
(16:34):
want to be at the highest level in the football
aspect of things. They were into all the Division one
other sports at our school. We're all at the top level.
Football was not. And so those are the reason why
you know, I chose to come here. And again God
called me to be here. And again we're blessed. And
for out of five years if we've been conference champions
and and so we a lot of I got a
lot of things to get accomplished with in this two
(16:55):
year transition. Right now, Tura Gil joining us on the
Doug Otlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. What is
what is it like at Liberty? People don't understand that
there's an honor code that you have to abide by.
This is you're not this is not just Uh, you
can't take any guy off the street to uh to
survive at Liberty as a school For people who don't
(17:16):
know what's it? What does it mean to be a
student athlete for the Liberty Flats? Well, I think you.
You don't necessarily have to have accepted Jesus Christ as
your person, Lord and savior. Uh, you do have to
understand the values here. We're gonna talk about Jesus Christ.
You're gonna have to take eighteen hours of Bible classes
to get your degree. No matter what you get your
(17:37):
degree in, you're gonna have to take some Bible classes.
That's part of this institution. Uh. We're talking about the
Lord all the time. You have to go to convocation,
which means you go three days a week Monday, winnes
and Friday from ten thirty to eleven thirty. We have
a speaker. Again, it's not a speaker that is a
pastor preacher. There is some of that, but we've We've
(18:00):
had everyone from Stefan Curry. We had the Ninja Warriors
uh here just the other day. So there's a variety
of people. But they also put the political part of
things here too. Democrats are are invited here to um,
the Republicans invited here and so it is definitely a
conservative university. But those those are some of the things
that go on here. And you definitely have a curfews. Well,
(18:22):
midnight you have to be in your room Uh. Again,
we talked to our recruits. We talked to everybody about that,
and we uh tell them, you know, here's where are
the facts and are you wanting to do this? It's
more about preparing you for life. That's how we explain
to people. Just like you go to a job, there's
policies and you have to follow them and if you don't,
then you won't be there very long. And so we're
(18:42):
preparing you for life after college, for the rest of
your life here at Liberty University, Liberty head coach Turner
guil joining us incredibly exciting game in which they pull
off the upset over the over the bailor bears um
in terms of how the game played out based upon
how you thought it would in order for you to
get the win. How close were the two Well, it's
(19:05):
very very good. We knew our offense is gonna have
to score a lot of points and uh we knew that,
Uh if our receiver number eleven, Antonio Gandy Golden could
have a big day, then we have a legitimate chance.
And that's kind of really what happened is well, he
was very accurate as for as a Steve Buckshot Calvert
who did a great job. They're orchestrating the drives. I
(19:25):
mean fifteen four third down conversions. I didn't have that
on the repertoire, but that was that was big time
to be able to do that. I think we had
about ten in a row were converted third downs. And
you know that's that's that's our standing. And so it
shows me that our coaching staff prepared our players. Our
players took everything, uh deeply inside mentally and only way
(19:47):
we want this game. It's called a great preparation. If
you don't have great preparation, you have no chance to
get some things done. So our guys played with confidence.
Uh and uh they did a great job. Uh coach. Uh.
Last thing um that that locker room afterwards. You know too,
it's one thing to have to buy in by the
players before you know, everybody believing it's the first game
(20:08):
of the season. You guys don't have any preseason right
but to to walk into that locker room and see
the look in your player's eyes. When I've been in
those locker rooms, I know how it is. Every coach
tells you can win this game. You should win this
game if you execute. We prepared for like all that's great,
but to actually do it. What were the look? What's
the look in the players eyes when what you told
(20:28):
them they could do they actually did in wake up, Well,
I think they all locked in. Uh, they're gonna be
tremendously locked down for our coaches and knowing that even
more deeply or what we're saying to him is playing
the how and the why, They're really gonna truly take
that to heart, take that the desire and uh, you
know again, I just told him, I'm proud of you.
(20:49):
But again, it's one game and I do not want
us to be defined for one football game. We still
have a whole season to go. That's what champions do.
It's not a one day wonder. It's an all day,
all year wonder, in all decade wondering. That's what we're
trying to get accomplished here. Well, congratulations, I know I
know what it means, what must mean to you and
your family to go in and get a win like
(21:09):
that and get the respect that you so very well deserved.
We appreciate you join us. We know you got practice
around too. Thanks for being our guest on Fox Sports Radio.
Thank you, and to be the glory all right. That's
Turner gil Head, coach of the Liberty Flames. I want
you to get life insurance. It's super important for your
family be protected. Most companies give you one option, one policy,
one rate, but Select Quote gives you options, lots of options.
(21:32):
I want you to give Select Quote a call at
one eight one four four six six, or go to
select quote dot com today for a totally free personal quote.
That's eight eight one four four six six. Let's bring
in Dan Buyer with UH find out what else is
going on in the world of supports. Dan, When you
got ankles? Seemed to be the theme as we enter
Week one of the National Football League. We know that
(21:53):
Jihnts wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Has an ankle injury,
and for the second straight day, oh b J did
not practice. The Giants traveled to Dallas to face the
Cowboys on Sunday night. On Sunday afternoon, the Browns won't
have their topic rookie defensive and Miles Garrett has been
ruled out of the opener against Pittsburgh because of an
injured ankle suffrage. Yesterday in practice, Bills running back the
(22:14):
Shawn McCoy was limited in practice with an illness today,
but is expected to play against the Jets coming up
on Sunday. Week one of the NFL season begins tonight
with the season opener in Foxboro, Patriots home to the
Chiefs at eight thirty Eastern time, Ohio. Stated coach Erban Meyer,
tab freshman J. K. Dobbins is the starting running back
for Saturday's game against number five Oklahoma. Dobbins started last
(22:37):
week in place of Mike Webber, who had a hamstring injury.
Webber is expected back this weekend. Cavaliers today introduced Isaiah Thomas.
When it comes to basketball, there's no pressure. I worked
too hard to even think about pressure. So when that
time comes where I'm able to be on the court
and play at the level I know I can play at,
that would take care of everything else. And of course
(22:57):
when he's gonna come back, we don't know. That was
an addressed today in the press conference. We will say this.
Sarah and Judge home run number thirty nine. Doug Yankees
lead the Orioles seven or nothing in the fifth in
game one of a double header. After last night's affair
in Baltimore was rained out. I appreciate that. Let me listen.
We had a healthy back and forth yesterday Dan on
(23:18):
the on the Michael Bennett thing. Now, uh, there is
one picture which it could or could not be a
gun that a cop is holding. He said he was
held at gunpoint. But now that you've seen a little
bit more, read a little bit more, heard a lot more,
what are your thoughts on the Michael Bennett versus basically
Michael Bennett and the NFL versus the Las Vegas Police
Department in Las Vegas Police Officers Union. Yeah, I think
(23:40):
if Michael Bennett was hiding behind slot machines and then
took off while everybody was standing, that's a different story
than what we heard from Michael Bennett yesterday, or at
least his version of the events. So that would cause
the police to think that something suspicious or something was
not up. But at the time, all we knew was
Michael Bennett's version and that thirty second video clip, and
(24:03):
so that's you know, that's why I felt the way
that I felt about the video because that was the
only information that I had and to see to know
that even I would say this without even knowing Michael
Bennett's version of this story, I probably would have felt
different knowing you know what I mean, Like, if if
I had no idea and saw an arrest, I probably
wouldn't have had the response that I did, knowing only
(24:26):
what he said in that you know page report that
he ended up sending out. So now that we're knowing
a little bit more, he could see why the police
acted like they did. I look, I looked at did
there Did the police have their have their antenna's up?
No question? Uh. There's also like there's one part of
this that is missing. And this is the part that
(24:47):
I don't know, and I don't know if you ever
get a chance to ask Michael Bennet this, But wasn't
it two weeks ago? Right? Like if you were wrong
by police, right, if you felt like police brutality, I
was wrong, Why wouldn't you have said something about it
in the last week and a half. I don't that
that part I don't understand. I had heard that because
(25:09):
they knew that the video was coming out, so that
there was some video that was going to be released. Um,
I don't know if that's valid or not, but it
was released yesterday. I don't know actually what came first, Doug,
to be honest, if it was the letter of it,
was the video or if they were somewhat simultaneously. But
that was one of the reasons why I heard nothing
was was said because but like Michael Bennett has has
(25:29):
been somebody's not shy with his feelings, right, Like he's
very bright, very outspoken. I don't like. Maybe it was
because he thought there was video to support his claims.
Is that was that it? I don't know. Yeah, yeah,
it's and I said yesterday, and I know that it
probably didn't come over too well. But when I felt
like there was more to the story, because there is,
because the only side that I had heard was Michael
(25:50):
Bennett's story, and from Michael Bennett's story and what we
saw on the video, I don't know how you could
not be moved or disturbed by what you saw when
you had only Michael Bennett's version of the events. Yeah,
I my, I guess I'm a little numb to it,
only that I've actually been cuffed before, and I've seen
people cuffed before, and I've also seen people, you know,
(26:13):
get out of being cuffed and whatever, so I I
understand why. And I've talked to police officers like I
do this all the time. Remember music? What was it
when we went to it was cowboys went to Cowboys camp.
Somebody got arrested for like week. It was the day after, Um,
Zach Randolph had been arrested possession, intend to sell right,
(26:36):
possession intend to sell this? Uh buy are you went
with us? You were? Were you at that coffee being
with us? No? I wasn't. But that's no, No, that
was the one I wasn't invited to. That's that you
know what I'm getting? Um, No, this is that this
is like honestly, like I do this all the time,
like again, and I do think it's a two way street,
like cops can be I agreed. I s cub joined
(26:57):
us last week, like like cops should have a better
relationship with the public. Not not every cop is a
good dude. I'm I'm fully well aware. Um, but that's
not not the point. The point was I did this?
Uh we would we go to Cowboys camp and Zach
Randolph had gotten arrested for possession intent to to sell
And I was like, hey, how so I just stopped.
(27:20):
There's a like five six police officers coming out of
a coffee place. I know, I know, I don't know
there was not no nuts sold there you're saying, um.
And I asked a couple of police officers, like what
is the minimum amount? Like could he possibly be carrying?
He's a big guy, could he Why do you why
(27:42):
is he arrested for intent to sell? And they were like,
and all of our Ryan, didn't you say you thought
it was over a couple of ounces? That you're a
weak guy, right, you know the time that I got
caught for possession to intend to sell? They said no, Um, yeah,
I mean we just kind of assumed that if it
would have to be more than kind of like what
(28:02):
fits in your pocket, right, so it's gotta be like
a several ounces or the ounces of it, so that
it doesn't look like one person would be consuming that
to themselves. Yeah, he he said that. There's just it's
just kind of a you get the sense, I mean,
like look here. The bigger thing was like, what was
Zach Randolph doing in the worst part of l A, right,
(28:22):
Like why are you hanging out in the worst part
of l A with a bunch of with hanging out
with a bunch of weed? Like that doesn't I don't
know anyway? When is dan if you if you actually
just approach an officer and you're like, all right, so
how do you how do you cuff somebody? How do
you approach a scene? Like what are you? They will
tell you like, look, these are there's they have a
(28:43):
reason why they run, how they run, how they arrest
some how they cuff somebody, what they're supposed to say,
and how they're supposed to react to different actions. Now,
that to me is the part to which we're maybe
not aware of. We don't see If you don't see
it off and you've never seen it before, you may
(29:03):
think it's a lot more violent. And they would tell
you why, like, look, we can't take any chances because
we don't everybody. We have to assume that everybody's armed.
We just do um assume the worst, hope for the best.
On the other hand, like I do think that there
are some police tactics to which that's really what a
(29:23):
lot of And I thought Colin Kaepernick actually like the
best point he made. The best point he made was,
you know, there has to be you have to you
should have to do more to be a police officer,
gent to do more in terms of training, psychological evaluation,
Like I can't remember exactly how he worded it, in
terms of how little time is spent studying to be
(29:45):
a police officer and they have to go to the academy,
et cetera. But there I feels like it should you
should to be able to carry a gun and be
licensed to shoot and kill people. If you think that
you're in danger, there should be you should have more training.
I don't think that's unreasonable. I don't, but I also
think that we have to be reasonable a certain situation
to which you walk in blindly, which is what the
(30:07):
Las Vegas police parmer saying, like, Hey, you walk into
a casino and you think there's an active shooter, and
you have to assume everybody's a bad guy, and you
have to be very very cautious of what's going on
around you. And like, look, if if it really was
ten minutes and the supervisor really did explain to him
what happened and like why it happened, then I'm not
(30:33):
really sure why Michael Bennett is. He's, hey, look, he's
using this for a cause that he has supported. But
you know, I continue to believe you can be anti
police brutality. I am. I see some of these videos
and I think that's not acceptable, dude. I remember the
(30:53):
Rodney King video. I was just as upset as any
human being, regardless of color of skin. It was gross.
But you can also see it feels like Michael Bennett exaggerated.
So it feels like it feels like he exaggerated, and
and you can also see the police officers perspective on it.
(31:15):
You know, he's laying on the ground, as Dan pointed
out yesterday, laying on the ground saying I was just
here with friends. I didn't do anything wrong. Like there.
I would guess that the people who are arrested probably
because there's a there is a there's a member Gary Moeller, right,
wasn't he the He was the coach in Michigan, and
then he got drunk at the bar and he told
(31:36):
the police officers, take me to jail. Boys. So there
is a percentage of people that say that, for the
most part, every human being, human beings that have had
shackles put on them, handcuffs put on them have said
I did nothing wrong. So I know that Michael Bennett
actually did nothing wrong other than run from a really
scary scene, which a lot of us would do. I
(32:00):
don't think what Michael Bennett's reaction was unreasonable, and I
also don't think it's unreasonable that he thought the police
were too rough with him. All of these are reasonable.
On the other hand, if you have a discussion with
a police officer and he's like, look, here's what we saw,
here's what happened, here's why we cuffed you, and here's
why we're so rough when we cuff you. Has nothing
to new with you. In fact, you're black. You're just
really big, and we've got to make sure that we
have control of you because if you are a bad guy,
(32:23):
you can beat the hell out of us, and then
we gotta go to our gun, and then something really
bad happens. Nick Saban doesn't think he's worth the money
that he's paid. I want to get to that. Plus
guess who might sit out the first week of the
regular season. I'll tell you upcoming next But first I
(32:43):

What true Car You can find out what other people

confident car buying experience. I got a d M from
a buddy who's in the media who's like, well, let
me know when a white athlete it's taken down by
the cops. And I was like, all right, well I
(34:10):
saw the Baker Mayfield video, like, well he ran from
the cops. Like what do you think they thought Michael
Bennett was doing. I didn't say it's cool to get
taken down by a cop, but when you run from
them and they tell you to stop, that's what they do.
That's what cops do. And we all have we all have,
(34:31):
most of us in our life have experienced the over
aggressive police officer. Hey, and again, I am anti police brutality,
anti police brutality, but I also think that Michael Bennett
is at minimum he is exaggerating his side of the story.
(34:57):
That's where I'm wanting to go. But this idea that like,
well they don't take down why guys, Yeah, they do.
You run from him, they usually take you down. Now
it's when you run from him and they shoot you.
I got a huge problem with that, right, they don't know,
like there's that there's several different videos of of uh
(35:18):
black I guess suspects at the time, like running from
a police officer and they like, why are you shooting
somebody if you don't know if they're armed and they're
you know, like they're not a threat Like that. I
am very much against and I will support anybody who
is against it. And to change of tactics and taking
guns out of people's hands who don't know how to
handle them, I got it. But in this particular case,
(35:42):
I kind of think they were doing what they were
told to do or were taught to do, and what
a reasonable police officer would do in the same situation.
Let's play a game. Same is game time on the
(36:03):
Doug Gottlieb Show. All right, Dan bye, what he got?
All right? Today we are playing guests who was in
an entirely different situation than Michael Bennett. It was Baker Mayfield. No,
just kidding. We'll move on. Yeah, we'll move on from that.
Um guests who will make a brief on field appearance
before tonight's Chief's Paytriot's opener in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Brief on
(36:26):
field appearance before tonight showed up. Yeah, this is gonna
be the commissioners. Of course, he's gonna be there for
the season opener, but if fans want to get there
and boo them on the field. They're gonna have to
get there early. The MMQB dot com says most of
Goodell's on field duties will be done well before most
of the fans enter the stadium. Goodell will also not
be shown on the video scoreboard during tonight's game. Also
(36:48):
won't be in Robert Kraft's suite for tonight's game, instead
watching it from somewhere else such a lette stadium. Um. Yeah,
they used to be boys though, right they? Him and
Craft used to be used to be uh like butt cheeks.
And Goodell did go to a preseason game where he
wasn't Craft sweet, but for tonight with all the attention,
(37:08):
not going to be there, not going to be there? Um, alright, well, like,
look he showed up, he'll do his Is it fiduciary duty?
Is that? What can I am? I using that? Alright?
Fiduciary duty? And he's gonna show up. Here's what I
want to know and I do. Roger Dale said something
earlier today on First Things First that has people going crazy,
(37:29):
And I actually think it's really reasonable and smart. But
I guess I'm the only reasonable and smart person here anyway. Um,
And I think the guys in the show actually thought
it was reasonable and smart as well. But where is
that bald deflation investigation year long test of the inflation
levels of footballs? It was two years ago, it was
(37:49):
supposed to be done, and we haven't seen any results.
That's a that's that's the bad look from the NFL.
A s Who is likely to continue his hold out
for a new contract and likely won't play in his
team's open or Sunday to start the NFL season? Uh? Wait,
(38:09):
I guess who one more time? Who is likely to
continue his hold out for a new contract and likely
won't play in his team's Sunday NFL season opener. Yes,
Aaron Donald not likely to show up. ESPN reporting that
Donald will continue his hold out. There had been some
hope from Sean McVeigh that his star defensive tackle would
be there in time for the Colts game coming up
on Sunday. ESPN says that is not likely to happen. Remember,
(38:32):
he had two years remaining on his contract. They're willing
to rework it for him. He they just they're not
gonna give into every one of his demands. And uh, frankly,
I think they kind of hold the cards in this thing,
because even when even if they do really don't rework it,
he's still under contract. That doesn't change. And then after
that contract expires, they have two years to potentially franchise
tag him, so they have all the leverage. Eventually, Aaron
(38:55):
Donald's gonna show up and I'll be interesting to see
if the Rams dig in. I still love the ram
Ms against the Colts because Cold Stink and the Cults
are starting their backup quarterback who is not of statar
starting caliber. Guess who Doug thinks the new look Cavaliers
have an edge that they never have had before. Uh,
(39:17):
I don't know, No, no it is, and I don't know.
I guess it is Isaiah Thomas, a guy like myself,
and Jake Crowder and Big Z. I don't think they've
they've had that in the past, even though they've been
championship caliber teams and they've been arguably the best team
the last however many years. I think we asked something
that they didn't have, and that's that's toughness, great and
(39:40):
just people who who have been counting out their whole careers.
Me and Jake come come from kind of the same cut,
from the same cloth where we've been counted out and
we're just gonna keep fighting no matter what people say.
That was Isaiah Thomas today is he was introduced to Cleveland. No, look,
I agree. I mean I think Avery, Bradley, Jake Crowder,
Isaiah Thomas all. Uh, they're all tougher than they are great,
(40:01):
and they are all really good basketball players. Uh, and
they do that bring that to the cab. The problem
is that Isaiah Thomas is a very different player. He's
also a guy that struggles to guard and doesn't guard
at the defensive end. The Calves have been Calves have
struggled defensively even without him, with Kyrie Irving who sometimes
doesn't play defense though he can. So they do bring
an inherent toughness to them. I don't know if they
(40:23):
make them better though. Amazing how Chuck Pagano could just
make the music stop like that when he yells grits.
But he but he did. Doug Finally, guess who on
the crew? Yes, guess who on the crew? As a
kid thought when you ordered swordfish you actually got a
sword with the meal? Oh Ramos, No, yes, it would
(40:46):
be Ryan Music, who probably thought God an enormous knife
with your purchase of delicious Delicious. Let's let's wrap this
thing up and discuss game. This is game time on
the Doug Gottlieb Show. Okay, on My Big Green Egg,
I make a mean swordfish, mean swordfish. Um, I marinated
(41:10):
in garlic, salt, pepper, and lots and lots and lots
of lemon, little olive oil. Where you had never had
swordfish before? Where did you have it? Oh? No? This
was like that's in relation to when I was like
six getting a sword. Yeah. Yeah, they like would bring
sword and I'm like, where's the sword at? It's a
good deal for only eighteen bucks, that's not bad, all right.
I'll give away a thing when I was a kid.
(41:31):
When I was a kid, I had trouble saying the
ellen lobster. I called it yopster. So my brother and
sister would say, Doug, la la la la lobster. So
what would I say? La la la la yapster, La
la la la ypster ypster. Roger Gerdell was asked about
Colin Kaepernick and his answer was perfect, which of course
makes everybody go crazy. That's next in the Doug Gotlip Show. Boom,
(41:56):
What Up America? Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. All Right,
let's not get caught up in in Michael Bennett, because
look here here's the thing. I think Michael Bennett's had
an awesome football team. I've watched the Seahawks a bunch
in the preseason, and I think there's a difference between
them and so many of the teams in the NFL.
(42:17):
Like I kind of think the Seahawks are right right
where they've been, right where they've been Defensively, the the
energy that team plays with is different. I think they've
shored up some of their offensive line issues, They've gotten
younger in the backfield and fix some of their backfield issues.
I think Russell Wilson took a step last year as well,
Like I don't. I think he exaggerated what he believes
(42:39):
happened to him with the Las Vegas Police Department. I
don't hold that against him in terms of what I
think will happen to him or how they'll play in
the season. M hm. Anyway, Uh, but we can't like
we can tell the Seattle Seahawks story and also mentioned
(42:59):
they had they're the one team to have Colin Kaepernick
in for interviews, to have math facility, and they chose
to pass, and they still got rid of Trayvon Boykin
when they signed Austin Davis. Austin Davis beat out Trayvon Boykin,
who had another off the off the field issue, remember
in the off season. Um and so they bring in
Austin Davis, who, like Colin Kaepernick, has been a start
(43:21):
in the league. Unlike Colin Kaepernick, he did not have
the success that Colin had earlier in his career. Nonetheless,
that's the guy that they brought in, regardless of which,
Kaepernick is always a topic of discussion. And with the
NFL's season upon us kick off is in a couple
(43:46):
of hours. Roger Dell is making his rounds. He was
on First Things First, a new and I think very
good show on Fox Sports one, which is at six
o'clock Eastern time in the morning, six to or is
I don't know, it's three three o'clock here, so I
think it's six to. It might be sixty, but that's
like three thirty here, Like come on, man, I don't
(44:07):
really know whatever. And I actually I had a weird
sleep pattern last night. I don't want to take us
too far afield from what rog said, but I will
for a second. Um, I have the unique ability. Say
do you guys know about my ability? I'm like my
my sister thinks I'm narcalectic, but I'm not an earcalyptic.
Like narcaptic would mean I would go full Francissa on
(44:28):
the on the radio right like it's not gonna happen.
But when I decide to sleep, I can sleep. Like
if you said, hey, man, you're tired, take an app
for an hour, like I will lay down, set my
phone alarm. I can sleep, you know wherever on a
I can go Castanza under my desk. Okay, I can
sleep on a park bench. I would be a very
(44:50):
good homeless person because I can sleep on a park bench. Um.
And I also will eat whatever people give me. So
that's but I I like having a house. Um, So
I have the ability like I'm selectively narcalyptic. That's all
I can say. I can sleep, But if I get
woken up in the middle of the night, I struggled
to go back to sleep. I don't know. I don't
(45:10):
know what that's called. So last night I was reading
a bunch, trying to get ready, trying to bake some
predictions in the NFL, and yeah, and I know tonight
it's gonna be great night, like NFL football is back
tomorrow night. My my little dude's got his first flag
game and Oaklhom State Place South Alabama a boy destined
vor Checks calling that game. I kind of fired up then, like, all,
(45:31):
I will watch more football this weekend than is um
then your doctor would say is healthy. Like I got
to watch an unhealthy amount of football this weekend. I
hope you will join me and do so as well.
College games are great, Pro games are great. I might
get one of those like marks on my bottom from
sitting on my bottom watching too many games on TV. Anyway,
(45:52):
So I woke up at like twelve thirty because my
wife's like, the dog won't come in, Like, so leave
the dog outside, don't wake me up again. I got
to dog in, I go pee, and then I'm like,
all right, now I'm up. And so I was up
between twelve thirty and like tot five. I was trying
to make it like, oh, I want to watch the
start of that show, but I didn't really want to watch,
(46:14):
and I fell back asleep. I missed the whole thing,
but it's a good show. Because I DVR it, I
watched it. I knew they were having Goodell on today,
and I I thought they did a good job of
asking ROJ. Goodell about whether or not Colin Kaepernick belonged
in the NFL. Here was the Commissioner of the NFL
(46:35):
on First Things First on Fox Sports. One's answer, I'm
not a football expert. I'm a huge fan. I have
a role as commissioner also, But for me, I watched
the games and enjoy it, and I let the football
people make those decisions. And the reality is there's a
lot thirty two different decisions, right, and multiple decisions within
an organization, So there's always a dispute and the idea
(46:56):
of who can play and who can't play, who's best
for our system, and this for our system, our decisions
that should be made by those thirty two teams, right,
I oh, one, I don't want any part of it too.
I'm not really a football expert. Which again, like I
understand that US on radio and US on TV who
are not football experts can form an opinion, but like
(47:20):
that's really not the job of the commissioner, and so
he didn't answer while answering, but at least he answered
with a non answer. Do you understand the difference? Like
instead of saying I don't want to talk about it,
instead of saying that's not my role, he essentially said
I don't want to talk about that. That's not my role.
(47:40):
But he did so in very eloquent fashion, right, Like
there's a I mean, at least he didn't go to
like political talking points. Let me tell you about my
plans for healthcare, right like you at least he didn't
go there. But I kind of thought it was the
perfect answer, like, hey, I'm a football fan. I'm a
football guy. But whether or not he belonged was on
a team, Like, that's not really my that's not really
(48:04):
what I do. There's thirty two teams and they make
each individual decision. The Seahawks had him in there, they
decided to pass. Why they decided to pass. He wanted
to be a starter. What that translates into is starting
money is Russell Wilson didn't want him there is They
just didn't feel like, look, we played the sound. Did
(48:24):
we play the sound for you or was it only
you know I played the sound for you last week? Right?
And Derek Carr what he said about match hup. Do
you guys remember that? Did we play that Ramos or
did I just play that? I played it on Cowherd Man.
Maybe that's what it was. There's a cut of what
Derek Carr said a week ago at a press conference.
(48:45):
And remember Derek Carr his rookie year, he wasn't drafted,
He wouldn't drive in the first round one draft, in
the first round. And car said that when he was
name him the starter, he thought he was going to
be traded. Like He's like, I thought I played pretty well.
(49:06):
I thought, you know, Matt schob is the starter here.
I thought I was going to be moved. That's what
he honestly thought. They called him in and said you're
the new starting quarterback. You're the new starting quarterback, and
he said he walked into the quarterback room and Matt
shob blew him away with this comment where he's like, look,
(49:28):
I'm mad, I'm upset. But you know what, from this
point forward, my job is to get you ready to
be in the best quarterback in the NFL, because that's
the job of a backup quarterback. And that's not what
con Kaepernick does. There are certain people who can't be
This is the why Kobe Bryant could never be a second,
(49:48):
third or fourth thought. Maybe this is there right here,
This is this is why, like Kobe Bryant could never
be second fiddle with the Lakers. You know why, because
Kobe Bryant has always been in alpha always and so
to say like hey Kobe, we want you to facilitate
(50:11):
that an what Kobe does, There was no plan B
for Kobe Bryant. It's the same thing for Colin Kaepernick
is when he was the backup in San Francisco, he
was doing everything in his power to get ready to
being a starter. Remember he was the second round draft
pick and they wanted him to eventually to take Alex
Smith's body. Eventually did take Alex Smith spot. That was
(50:32):
a different role than the one they would have him
in if he was in Seattle. Seattle didn't work, Baltimore
didn't work. We now know why. Ray Lewis told us
why on inside the NFL, Miami wouldn't work. One reason
gays of course at a relationship with Cutler, and I'm
sure part of part of the issue was the city
didn't exactly want to throw their arms around a dude
who were a fidel castor shirt. And that's where ROGERI
(50:53):
does not wrong. Thirty two teams had thirty two different decisions,
right Minnesota Vikings. Is he better than Sam Bradford? I
think the answer is, oh, could he be a backup there? Yeah? Potentially,
Sam Bradford always get hurt, but they've got Teddy Bridgewater
who's still not ready. But they can't they can't kick
away their investment in Teddy Bridgewater getting back and make
Sam Bradford uneasy considering he's coming off a year which
(51:14):
he surprised people with the highest completion percentage in the
history of the National Football League. Are they're gonna put
him in Philadelphia? Why he's never gonna play ahead of
Carson Wentz? And what you want in Philadelphia is a
veteran quarterback who, like Matt Shop when Derek Carr was
the starter, would do everything in his power to get
him ready to be in better. So it might not
be the answer that you wanted to hear from Roger Goodell,
(51:39):
but I think it was the perfect answer. Patriots played tonight,
and there will be people there. Before Edelman got hurt,
there were people saying this team could go undefeated. Patriots
actually had a team that went undefeating the regular season,
lost in the Super Bowl. Want eighteen games? For my money,
that's the best Patriots team ever. I know other just
(52:00):
have won a super Bowl, Others have had dominant seasons,
but that was the most dominant of the seasons. They
just lost in the Super Bowl in a great game
to the to the New York Giants. Dion Branch joins
the show next. Of course, he won a Super Bowl
with with the Patriots. He actually won two of them.
Last him last year's team, the undefeated regular season team,
(52:22):
his teams. How does this team compare and how do
they make up for the loss of Edelman, especially that
late in the preseason. Dion Branch, former Patriot super Bowl
m v P joins us upcoming next, But first, are

(54:09):
Otlieve show, Fox Sports Radio. You know, I really hate
doing that local radio guy kind of feels forced to do.
Is where you go through the schedule. You the mic,
the friend says to the mic and the dog we go,
that's a wind, that's a loss, that's a win, that's
the lows, that's a low stoke, right, because you don't
know who's going to be healthy. You just you don't um.
(54:33):
But I am interested in how the Patriots start the season.
Here's the start of their schedule, which look Chiefs at home.
And though I think we all think Alex Smith has
a ceiling in the playoffs, is that ceiling it still
exists in the regular season. And they have a dynamic defense.
Now the Chiefs, they don't get off the quarterback nearly
(54:53):
as well when they're out of Arrowhead because they have
the great get off um and they lost their starting
starting running back for the year. So there are some
things working against the Chiefs. But the start of the
season for the Patriots. You know when you start when
you start the season with three of your first four
(55:15):
games at home and you're playing against the Chiefs team,
which Alex Smith is he's not embattled, but he has
to be playing with one eye over his shoulder, and
Kareem Hunt is their new starting running back. I think
you feel a little bit better, especially than if you
were going on the road for this game. Let's welcome in.
Dion Branchi joins the show, and of course he won
(55:37):
two Super Bowls with the Pats. Uman give me your
sense of this team. They lose Edelman, but so many
have have uh have had such glowing praise for the
moves that Belichick has made in the off season, getting
veteran players to kind of fit holes. What are your
thoughts on their roster heading into the Chiefs game. I
(56:00):
think the guys are, you know, this isn't the position
they want to be in. With Julian being out, you know,
a couple of other guys been sidelined, but I think overall,
the guys who coach better taking the staff has has
added to the team. We should be pretty We should
be pretty good. I think the guys are, you know,
once they get acclimated with Tom as the season go along,
(56:20):
I think we'll be perfectly signed. They added obviously, Philip
Door set in the late trade, Uh, Danny Avendola probably
becomes you know, the slot guy, and he's he just
he hadn't been able to stay healthy long enough. Is he?
Is he good enough to be Edelman if he stays healthy? Well?
I think also at the same time, that's you have
an extra security blanket with with the emergency, with the
(56:42):
addition of Brandon Cooks. You know, um who knows that,
So they really want to use them on the outside.
But if it comes to it, I'm sure that there's
a lot of different plays that he's that Josh can
draft up and to have him in the slot just
in case. But I think overall, Danny understand the position
he's in and the things that he has to do.
Now that doing is out alright, So Dion branches joining
(57:07):
us to celebrate the kickoff of the NFL season. The
Patriots Super Bowl champions. Bud Light, the official beer of
the NFL, is handing out more than sixty five thousand
Patriot themed bud Light Touchdown glasses two fans at the
season open. Of course, Dion is joining us care of
bud Light you Gotta bud Light dot com slash Touchdown
and as a nod to the three comeback bud Light
(57:30):
is making what thousand, Yes, sir, hundred that will be sold?
Are you are we Are we tempting fate at all
by trolling the Falcons because they come back? Yeah, just
a little bit. You know, I was always trying to
figure out what was thousand and three, and you know,
my guys they come back, and I was like, yeah,
(57:55):
that was pretty that was quite fitting for it. So
who knows, maybe they should have did it for thirty thousand,
you know, is it me or was the undefeated team
really the best of the Patriots team the one that
was lost the Super Now, I think the guys that
did it back to back was the one. Alight, that's fair.
(58:17):
I believe you were on the back to back team. Yes, sir,
I was part of the back to back. But you know,
I think all those the Super Bowl runs that came
through each one of those years were were something very
unique and very special about each one of those teams.
Each team was very different, that the personnel was completely different. Um,
the outcome of the season was totally different versus you know,
(58:40):
the win losses during the course of the year. UM,
the turnover of players that was on the team versus
who wasn't the next year was completely different. So I
think each year in every Super Bowl run was very
unique in its own way. I I tend to agree
with you, Like people forget that the first Super run,
it wasn't about Tom it was about the defense, and uh,
(59:01):
you know, it was about beating the Rams. And how
remember the Rams were introduced individually and the Patriots came
out and there introduced as a team, and then you know,
slowly but surely it became a past dominant team. Um
the you know, they one year yet Corey Dillan, but
then the other years it was it was he had
no running game at all. Uh. This past year they
won without Rob Grenkowski, which I thought was was unique.
(59:23):
They've won three four, they've won four three, They've won
almost any way possible. Here here's the question. People want
to know. How much of it do you believe is Belichick?
How much of it do you think is Brady? Uh
is hand in hand? You look at the whole six
of ways and I think, uh, you know, our job
is to go out and do exactly what coach betuld
take acts of. I think the next phases once we
hit the football fielders to go out and just execute
(59:45):
the plays that the coordinators give to the guys. You
know that. I think the players have to take this
the owners on themselves to go out and do that weekend,
week out and um, you know, overall time demands a
lot from from the players on the football field, just
as much as would take demands with him, and just
as much as Mr Kraft demands with coach Velitet. So
(01:00:06):
I think it all starts at the top and it
just trickled down itself, rippling effects. And I think we
all we all have the same that the same goal
in mind, his all his um. His wife came out
and basically said that he was concussed last season. The
NFL didn't investigations said he was not concussed. Is this
(01:00:26):
is this Giselle trying to talk him into retirement? What
what do you take it from? That could be only
Tom knows that you know, she may be then who again,
who knows? Uh, It probably could have been a I
don't know where they picked that information up from who
she was speaking to and someone probably reported or she
probably joking. Who knows. There's no telling and there's no
(01:00:49):
telling at all. But at the same time, I'm sure
she wants her husband at home. But at the same time,
Thomas is you know, I'm sure you want to be
at home as well. But you know, he down the side,
he's still fighting and dealing with something that he wanted
to continue to uh that he's chasing. What's reasonable to
expect in terms of at some point he's going to decline,
(01:01:10):
and I understand that. Like, look after the Denver game
two years ago, they went back and like, hey, we
got to fix this offensive line because look, no one's
the same when they got pressure in his face, but
especially when you got a four year old quarterback, and
they really did a good job of of of giving
him a clean pocket most of last year. That said, like,
at some point he's going to age. Is that the
(01:01:32):
point going to be this year? Well, who knows when
he may exit out on top. You know this again,
the guys can go out and win the Super Bowl
this year and he can look just as good as
he looked last year and just fell off in the sunset,
and we may never see the declining of Tom Brady
never what do you never see that? You think, what
(01:01:54):
do you think he'll retire? He'll retire before he falls off. Yeah,
I mean that that that can be a great thing.
I mean, that's one of the best things to do,
you know, so that the guys never have something to
talk about, because that'll be the next phase once you
start seeing some some similar things. Where for the quarterbacks
in the past, the guys can't throw the d ball,
he can't throw our route, or he's getting tackled too much,
(01:02:17):
or he's getting hurt. I think if he sailed off
before that happens, there's nothing to say, nothing negative to
say at all. Diana, listen, great stuff, Enjoy the game tonight. Um, Look,
I'm fascinated to see what Brady does. Obviously, you know,
like the grunt needs to stay healthy and and Dolan
needs to stay healthy. Well, see how we'll see how
doors doors set of all? What about Look, they made
(01:02:40):
some key additions on the defense. What is the weakness
to this team outside of trying to replace Edelman? If
you had to pick a weakness, what would it be?
Oh man, what it is? Toughly? Clearly you know it's
not the secondary. Um. If anything, you know, it may
be as possible. If you're saying if there's a weakness,
they may be little between the linebackers and the defensive line.
(01:03:02):
Do they have a pass run? I get that. That's
that's my dad, I mean, and that's a that's a
credit of all of that front saventh. So if you
want to pick and two the one it maybe you
can say it maybe the linebackers, the linebackers, or it
could it be the defensive line group. It's a puss
of one thing. You do know the strength of this
(01:03:22):
defense is in the secondary. Well, they're gonna have to
be strong, especially if they're not getting after the pastor
with four but we'll see Dion branch of course, as
a nod to the twenty three comeback, they're selling Patriots
themed bud Light touchdown glasses. You gotta bud Light dot
com slash touchdown Dean, thanks so much for joining us.
Really appreciated, Yes, sir, thank you all right, Dion branch
(01:03:43):
an all time great Patriots. You know, um, that's the
reason for pause, right, Like the two most important parts
of the team. What do you do on third down?
And can you get after the pastor? And I guess look,
you gotta protect your quarterback. They have very good offers
flying they reworked there they we reworked their running game,
(01:04:05):
and but they lost a lot from last year. So
you got Dion Lewis Pack, You've got James White, Mike
Willis Lee of course comes over from Buffalo trying to
do it in numbers. They've always done it with kind
of no name guys tucking the NFL. Thanks the True Car.

(01:04:32):
let's let's figure out what else is going on in
the world sports. Here's Dan Fire. Well, it's a big
night in Foxborough today. I had a big night for
football fans everywhere at the start of NFL regular season
as the Chiefs and Patriots playing in Foxborough. They'll kick
it off at eight thirty Eastern time. Now, the Browns
are gonna host the Steelers on Sunday, but Cleveland will
not have rookie defensive end and first overall picked Miles
(01:04:53):
Garrett for the game. He's gonna miss the opener against
the Steelers after injuring his ankle in a practice yesterday.
More ankle news from the NFL. Odell Beckham Jr. Miss
practice again for the Giants. They've got the Cowboys coming
up on Sunday night, while Bills running back the Shawn
McCoy was limited in practice today with an illness, but
he is expected to go against the Jets coming up
(01:05:14):
on Sunday. So College Hoope on News, Ohio standed coach
Urban Meyer tab freshman J. K. Dobbins as they starting
running back for Saturday's game against number five Oklahoma. He
filled in for Mike Weber, who missed Indiana or the
game against Indiana because of a hamstring injury last Thursday.
Webber will return, but Dobbins gets the start. Aaron Judge
homerun number thirty nine Yankees, leaving the Orioles nine one
(01:05:34):
in the bottom of the seventh inning. It's game one
of a double header and finally dug A report from
ESPN says that the NBA is considering draft a lot
of re reform that could be in place in time
for the upcoming season. Apparently the reform could be stretched
out over a few years, but they are trying to
change teams from tanking year in and year out to
(01:05:57):
get top three picks that coming from WOA. So if
you're you're bad for a couple of years, you get
to be in the draft lottery, right Like, I don't
there is there is there is some talk that maybe
you can't have consecutive years of topics. There's also the
talk of changing the percentages so the worst teams wouldn't
get as good of a percentage to get the you know,
(01:06:19):
a top pick or a top three pick in the draft.
So this reform is all being discussed, and it could
also allow Doug what I think is a problem. This
is my own opinion here, but if you were to
allow like the numbers is not necessarily ahead. Yeah. The
point is is, what about if you were the ninth
team or the tenth team in the Western Conference and
(01:06:40):
you had a better chance to land a top pick.
You know that middle ground right now in the NBA
is so dangerous because you don't want to be eight
or night. You'd rather be great or rather be bad.
Why not let some of these middle of the road
teams add a top young talent that maybe could push
them into the into the playoff picture and make them better.
I think that overall for the league would be good.
Instead of maybe having all these stars go to poor teams.
(01:07:04):
Uh yeah, but then the bad teams continue to be bad, right,
Like if you give them, if you give those teams
more of a chance, that are you know, that would
be like the nine or ten maybe they have an
opportunity to land a guy. I wouldn't be year in
and year out where they would have, you know, the
only chance to do it. But if you give them
more of an opportunity, I think it would help some
of that middle of the ground of the NBA. Listen
(01:07:25):
that that is a that is a bold strategy, Cotton.
That's that really is That's what that is. You know,
like like, all right, you just missed the playoffs. Let's
give you the best player coming out of the draft.
You know, you look at the Miami Heat who missed out.
If they were to, you know, bring in a guy
like Jayson Tatum or Markel Folts or like why would
you Why would you do that? I don't like why why?
Like why stop there? Why not? Just what what about
(01:07:47):
the eighth place team in the So then a team
ends up, you know, intentionally not making the playoffs so
that they can they can get the number one. I'm
not saying give them teams, but what I'm saying right
now in the n B a is you have you
have a problem where nobody wants to be eight or nine.
You'd rather be third or thirty. And if you were
doing if you had more of a an opportunity to
(01:08:09):
grab a top pick, maybe it would help some of
the middle of the NBA improve. You know, it's maybe
you put some of the bad playoff teams in the
lottery as well. But if you were weren't a top five,
I think there are a lot of different ways that
you could do it, because I think the middle of
the NBA right now is a bad spot to be
in and and that could be a way to allow
it to get a little bit better. Um. Well, look,
I nothing that you have said is incorrect. I just
(01:08:32):
think the execution of it is really hard. And there's
a reason that the worst team they wanted, Like the
lottery is there so that the worst teams don't always
get it, Like the lottery is actually there to stop
teams from taking and it's had the opposite of the
intended effect. Right. Um. The crazy part is that as
much as we would all think the sixers were taking,
(01:08:53):
they didn't always get the number one pick. It didn't
like they got Joel Embiid when they had the fourth
pick in the draft, not when had the first pick
in the draft, because Joel embid was hurt before the draft, right,
So I think that part is fascinating that we're missing
on it. I just don't think there is a good
fixed for other than either due away with the lottery
or have the lottery as can you change the percentage,
(01:09:15):
I guess, But the lottery was enacted so that teams
couldn't tank, and they've been tanking anyway. Well, remember when
it was the first lottery, it was seven teams I
believe it was seven teams that were in the lottery,
and they all had the equal shot because it was
just the one envelope. And then as it went on,
the NBA said like, okay, well we'll give the worst
teams more of a percentage. That's what really kind of
(01:09:37):
turned things. And in my theory and whether it be legit,
it's not wholly vested or fully vested. But the fact
is is, remember when Orlando got back to back picks
in the in the nineties with Shock the first year,
and then they land number one and draft Weber and
trade them to Golden State for Penny Hardaway. Guess what
all of us in Orlando is this marquee team in
the NBA. If you had a middle of the road
(01:09:59):
team that added a star because they had a better
chance at at getting a good player, maybe that solves
some of the problem that you've got in the middle. Um,
just an idea, just throwing there. There are no there
are no bad ideas, right, this is like this a
barnstorm barnsty brainstorming thing where like all right, it's put
on the board, is not a bad idea? Like occasionally
(01:10:20):
it's a bad idea and you're just like, okay, maybe
we're looking for a little bit more than that. Then
I go, okay, Doug, let's give your idea. You know.
That's uh no, It's like it's like like you know,
you're sitting there and like right now, the brooklyn Nets
don't care about the lottery. But if you're the brooklyn
Nets and you've been bad and you get a lottery pick,
like now you're like and oh yeah, by the way,
what about these trades for these lottery protected picks like
(01:10:42):
that go for the next couple of years, Like wait,
I made a trade. It was a fair trade at
the time. Now it's not a fair trade because you've
done away with the draft lottery, Like there's there's some
unintended consequences that have to be worked through. Here's the
part that no one talks about. No one talks about.
What do teams always do? Dan Buyer, John Ramo, Ryan
Music if they want to be bad? What do they
(01:11:02):
always do? Because you can't you can't just say, like, hey,
we want you to lose the right play the young guys, right,
they all play the young guys. Done that say something
about how uh inherently bad the drafts have been because
the players are too young. Like, if we're gonna start reform,
we're starting reform at the wrong place. The reform should
(01:11:25):
be not allowing players into the draft until two years
after high school so that they're better and able to
help more readily. Because even now, when you get a
draft pick, like those dudes don't help you, Like it's
all of vicious cycle, all of them, All of these
teams they draft young guy like we're gonna get you,
gonna play young, they play young guys, and whoever drafted them,
(01:11:48):
that coach that GM is almost always fired by the
time those guys come of age and they're actually pretty
good players, and the owners forced them to play the
young guys. One because when you're drafted in the first round,
you might as well play him. And secondly, um, secondly,
they also don't mind losing with young players because it
(01:12:08):
helps them draft more young players. I have a solution
to that one. Yeah, can I share with the message?
All right? So the reason the only people in on
Earth who liked the one and done rule our agents,
because the agents know the quicker you get to the pros,
the quicker you get your clock started on getting your
second contract. And when you get your second contract, that's
(01:12:29):
when you make big money. In your third contract, that's
when you're making crazy money. Right. So here's so that's
where we start. The baseball type of plan. Okay, baseball
has everybody says we love baseball. That like, people don't
actually love baseball in baseball because the first four years
you're in baseball, you don't make any money unless you're
(01:12:50):
Mike And even Mike Trouty was like his fourth they
reworked his deal. He made like a million dollars a
year I think in his third or fourth year, and
then now he's making like like sixteen in what is
this his six year? Now he's making fifth or six year.
You start to make some legit money. But one of
the things baseball does a good job of is it
doesn't matter if you're what you're drafted by, it's how
(01:13:11):
many games do you play. That's why like September Collups,
those guys can still be Rookie of the Year next year.
So with the G League, remember the D League is
now the G League is sponsored by Gatorade. I see
what you did their NBA G League got it. Anyway,
if what you do with now you can draft young players,
stick him in the G League. And if guys want
(01:13:33):
to come straight out of college and a one and
done role, that's fine. But you're playing the G League.
That does not count towards your credit hours of getting
your second contract. And so I think what you do
is you say, like, look, we're not gonna get you
gonna you can negotiate your second contract once you play
in I don't know a hundred and fifty NBA games.
(01:13:58):
What what it will cause I believe players to do
is stay in college longer so that they play in
the NBA sooner rather than go to the G League
where they're technically in the NBA, but it's not counting
towards their NBA service. Do I think that will actually work?
Probably not, but I think it's a positive. Why not try? Right?
(01:14:19):
You know, it's it's interesting when you just talk about
the talent as well of what you've got in the NBA,
because Oklahoma City was also the model of late because
everybody felt they were gonna land Durant Westbrook and Hardened
in consecutive drafts. And the Lakers did that really with
Randall Russell and Brandon Ingram, and you think, wow, that's
(01:14:41):
what tanking got us, that trio. So when you talk
about the talent that is actually coming into the draft, yeah,
it's not. It's not Durant, Westbrook and Hardened coming in.
That's a rare, rare situation when that happened. I do
think Ingram's going to have a breakthrough year. This year's
only nineteen years over, gonna be twenty years old. I
do think that, but I would you're completely right, like
(01:15:01):
the young players thing is not what we deem it
to be. The lottery is not as much of a
well spring as people like to think that it is. Uh,
there is a difference with select Quote. Most companies give
you one option, one policy, one rate on life insurance,
but with select Quote you get options lotch of options.
I want you to give Select Quote a call eight

think I have the analogy that makes sense for for
Michael Ben and I'll share with you at the top
of the hour. I got all I have so many
(01:16:04):
of my friends in sports that are texting me like
I wish I could see what you're saying. And then
I have other friends like you're crazy for what you're saying.
You haven't remember what I'm saying. You have to stay
tuned the top of the hour. Uh. Every day this
time we like to bring back something we've heard previously
on Fox Sports Radio. By the way, first things first
is now on serious XM channel eight three, six thirty
(01:16:26):
a m. East Coast time. You don't see her Clay
Travis six to nine am. On terrestrial radio stations and
on the app, of course, you can hear Collin cow heard,
you can Rich Eisen, Dan Patrick, My Show, Uh, Steve Gorman,
JT the Brick, Ben maller Um, Jason Smith like we have.
(01:16:47):
And then the weekend lineup, which was just down yesterday
is outstanding. It all here the I Heart Radio app
or any of your hundreds of Fox Sports radio stations. Anyway,
we hear something, we'd like to bring it back for you,
and then I get to argue against the defenseless radio host.
We call it and now you say it, you put
it out there, we chop it up. Here's Colin Cowherd
(01:17:08):
on the Patriots. The New England Patriots, according to Vegas oddsmakers,
are just about as good as the team that was
undefeated with Randy Moss. And I'm gonna make the argument
that they'll even be more dominant this year than that team.
And that team was dominant. But part of why the
Patriots will be dominant. Look at the erosion of the
(01:17:29):
a f C. I'm gonna go ten years ago. In
the a f C, Peyton Manning was in his prime,
Big Ben was in his prime. Philip Rivers San Diego
won the division in his prime, Carson Palmer Cincinnati in
his prime. Even teams like Cleveland won ten games Jacksonville
one eleven. Now ten years later, Peyton Manning's retired, Big
(01:17:53):
Ben has fallen off a cliff, Philip Rivers franchise in flux,
Andrew luck is out, Jets and Bills actively tanking. Um, yeah,
I like, Look, I think that the big thing here
is Collins actually saying two things that don't actually mean
(01:18:13):
the same thing. Okay, he's saying the Patriots or historically great,
and saying the a f C is down, And I
that that those two things don't go together. Okay, Like
this Patriots team, if they had Julian Edelman, maybe I
don't think it's historically great because I don't think like
they don't have a pass rush. That's a problem. Now,
(01:18:36):
what he's saying is the a f C is not
very good because outside of Derek Carr and Big benefits
healthy like and and you know the you have mismatched teams.
Derek Carr is tremendous that wide receiving. They got a
good offensive line, They have some really good defense players,
but their defense stinks. Steelers defense is not what the
Steelers defense used to be. And the division he plays in.
(01:18:56):
We were talking about this before the show, weren't we,
guys where I said, like, I don't think the Patriots
are as good as they're hyped to be, But tell
me a team in their division that beats them. Look here,
if you want to look at the Patriots season, they
out of their by in November. They play five of
six on the road. They have a really weird schedule.
They play at Denver, but Denver doesn't have a quarterback.
(01:19:17):
But at Denver always a problem against that defense. At Oakland,
Oakland has a great offense, but again back to back
on the road. They probably won't go home because Sunday
night to Sunday afternoon. Then they home for Miami and
then at Buffalo, at Miami at Pittsburgh at the end
of five of six. A Pittsburgh team that, if healthy
at that point in the season should light up a scoreboard.
(01:19:38):
And if you're not going to pressure Ben Roethlisberger and
you're playing in Pittsburgh. I know New England has done
well against Pittsburgh. I don't like New England in that
matchup as of today. But if you're saying that the
a f C is down that and that in comparison
to the a f C, they should be better than
the Broncos, you have no quarterback than Pittsburgh and Ben
Roethlisberger being u that's not saying it's an historically great team.
(01:20:02):
That's saying that in comparison. You know what I'm saying.
We do this in We do this in college football
all the time, where like, I don't think Wisconsin is
that good, but I can tell you Wisconsin is going
to the Big Ten Championship game because they don't play
the good team with exception of Michigan at home. They
don't play the house, they don't pay play Penn State,
and they don't play particularly play Michigan at home. They
(01:20:25):
have an easy schedule. An easy schedule against the easier
side of the division doesn't mean that you're great. It
just means in comparison to your to your schedule, you're
better than everybody, which is I think what we're saying
about the Patriots, and in this particular year, they cross
over against the NFC South, which is a good division,
and they play New Orleans ruin the year, but they
(01:20:46):
don't play Carolina on the road, and they don't play
Atlanta on the road. Those are the two best teams,
two best home home field advantages UH in the division.
So I don't I think Colin is actually saying something
different than he supporting a point differently than he thinks
he is because this team versus the sixteen and O team.
(01:21:12):
The sixteen and O team had way more weaponry offensively,
they had Randy freaking Moss e through for fifty touchdown passes.
But this team has an easy schedule, a bad division,
and the a f C is down in comparison to
what the a f C has been the past. That's
different than saying they're great. That's saying they're dominant against
the current competition. Yes, Y, isn't this similar to what
(01:21:32):
we were talking about after the Warriors won the championship
this year and the sense of the Warriors may not
be the greatest team in NBA history, but the way
that they play, the players that they have on their
roster in today's NBA, and the teams they had to
compete against may have been one of the more dominant
teams we've ever seen. I appreciate that you're paying attention.
(01:21:54):
These are two different arguments, two different arguments. It's it's
the same as the argument I've made about Michael Bennett.
I'm against police brutality right when I see policemen stepping
over the line, and when I see them kicking somebody
your handcuff. You're kicking somebody when they're already handcuffed, Like,
what are you doing, you know, drawing, drawing and firing
(01:22:16):
their weapons on people, on unarmed civilians who are running
away from them. Like, I don't mind going after somebody.
You say stop, police freeze or whatever. They run and
you tackle a guy or you like that, that's let's
take care of especially you walk into a scary situation
where there's a shooter. But like I'm against police brutality,
I think most people are. I don't think Michael Bennett
(01:22:37):
is a victim of police brutality. I think he's exaggerating
because of his own personal experience, because of the bias
that he brought in, because of the stance that he's
taken and he assumed he was a victim of something
that he wasn't a victim of based upon Las Vegas
Police Department, Las Vegas Union. But more than anything, the
videotape the Eye in the sky, when the policemen are like, yeah,
(01:22:58):
that's what we did. It was It's big deal. This
is standard operating procedure. You can be against police brutality,
but think that Michael Bennett is exaggerating his claims. These
two arguments can coexist, just like you can say, I
think the Patriots aren't as good as maybe historically they've
(01:23:20):
been or other times they've been, but I think they'll
be dominant or more dominant than they were even last year.
These two arguments can co exist. Peter King joins the
show up coming next we gotta get ready for the
entire NFL season. Will the Falcons? Will the Falcons take
a step back, lose Kyle Shanahan and the division is
better and their schedule is more difficult. What about Dak
(01:23:44):
What about Zeke? What about the Cowboys? There's just a
lot of stuff there with the Cowboys suspensions, the Zeke thing,
no Romo year two, second year quarterback difficult schedule. Seahawks
seem to be back. Are they back? What about the Packers?
Finally go out and science people. I want to talk football.
That's good because um, Peter King is gonna join us,
(01:24:05):
and tonight we have a football game. Matter of fact,
in um three and a half hours, we have a
kickoff the first football game, NFL football game of the year.
You have made it. You've made it. How much do
people not care about baseball? They didn't care when the
Dodgs were winning, Now they don't care when they're losing.
We'll talk football, Peter King next in the Doug Outlup Show,
(01:24:27):
Fox Sports Radio, What Up? Doug Gottlieb Show. Football is here,
Well not yet three and a half hours, but like
he like that. You know you're going on a date
with a really little girl tonight, right, You're like excited,
You're excited, You're excited. You want to cut yourself shaving
that kind of thing. I'm sure you're excited. I'm excited.
(01:24:50):
I was not excited. NFL is here, it's back, and
we have Brady first four games this season. We got
Zeke on Sunday night, at least for the for the
time being, Aaron Rodgers versus Russell Wilson in lambeau Field.
We have Ravens Bengals first week of the season as well,
like Pittsburgh Steelers fire and finally have finally have mar
(01:25:13):
Tavis Bryant, and they got Antonio Brown, and they got
Levian Bell. Like you know, with the exception of Julian
Edelman and a couple of other players who are hurting
out for the year, most of the stars are back
and there's no election palaver to take away from. The
NFL going to be a huge weekend. Who better to
help us kick it off than Peter King m m
QB is of course the website you have to go to.
(01:25:36):
It's got outstanding stuff. And he does the tour of
all the camps. He knows so much about the game
that we just want to learn. He's kind of to
join us now on the Doug Gottlam Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Peter, thanks so much for being a part
of the show. There is a presumption from so many
that it's the Patriots and everybody else in the a
f C. Do you see it that way? Um, well,
(01:25:59):
good to be of you two. I think that there's
a chance that that could be it, and it's certainly
the odds are that that's going to be it. But
the reason why I really don't believe it's for a
couple of reasons. I mean, as Bill Polian said early
in the offseason, you know, Patriots are not untouchable. They
(01:26:21):
they just finished an off season. Uh you know, there's
a lot is up in the air with them. They
just placed Malcolm Mitchell on i R today. Uh so
they're receiving group is going to be different. And you know,
they really had to scrap and claw and come back
from a huge deficit to to win the Super Bowl.
(01:26:42):
So you know, again, I do think they're the best
team in the a f C. But I absolutely don't
think they're untouchable. I would I tend to agree with you.
Malcolm Mitchell also out first eight weeks. Uh So no
Malcolm Mitchell and no Julian Edelman. Uh they did make
the trade to get Phillip Dorset. We'll see how much
we see him tonight. On the other side. Tonight, he's
(01:27:02):
got the kan City Chiefs and everybody's raving about the
armed talent of Pat Mahomes, and the Chiefs are like, look, relax,
it's Alex Smith is the guy. Do you believe that
that that's that that's exactly how it will follow. Do
you think there's ultimately a place to which they say, hey,
Alex Smith's got that ceiling and Mahomes can win us
a game in the postseason with his arm talent. You know,
(01:27:24):
I think it's all dependent on on Alex Smith's play. Um.
I think that the easiest thing is to say is
the Chiefs are are saying that Alex Smith is the
quarterback this year, and then we'll see what happens next year.
But I think it's silly to make any pronouncements on
September seven about what's going to happen at quarterback for
(01:27:47):
a team that spent two number one draft choices to
draft a quarterback of the long term future. Um, you know,
to to to automatically assume he's not going to play
at some point this year. I think Alex Smith has
that decision in his hands. He needs to play well,
he needs to limit his mistakes, He needs to win
(01:28:07):
some of the games that in the past they haven't won.
Tonight would be one of them. Um. One of the
things about this game that I find really really interesting
is that. I'd say, of all the teams the Patriots
have had defending Super Bowls, uh, defending championships, rather, um,
this is the one where it seems to me you
want to get them early in the year because you know,
(01:28:30):
with um, Philip Door said, and Brandon Cooks out wide,
with Dwayne Allen spelling, Rob Gronkowski a lot with Rex Burkhead,
with Mike GILLIESLEI, they got five huge elements in their
passing game, uh and running game. Who weren't there a
year ago? And in the case of Philip Door said,
weren't there a week ago? You know? So, Um, there's
(01:28:52):
a lot of adjustment that the Patriots are going to
have to make on the fly. I just think it's
going to be really interesting to watch how long it
takes Tom Brady. You know, Tom Brady told me early
in this offseason when I asked him, it's amazing your
chemistry with Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Hogan, and he said
to me, hey, a hundred and eleven practices. So you
(01:29:15):
know it's gonna take a while say them to get them,
you know, all on the same page. It's just not
gonna happen in the first game of the year. But
then they have this weird schedule, Peter where out of
the by they go to Denver to Oakland, Miami at home,
to Buffalo, to Miami to Pittsburgh, like five of six
on the road, culminating uh in the in in the
Pittsburgh game, which I'm I'm sure will be flexed, but
(01:29:36):
I mean, I don't almost feel like that one's gonna be.
I can almost already call it being flexed. Um. That's
so you're they should be better in the second half
of the season if they get if they're healthier, but
their schedule is prohibitably more difficult because of the five
out of six on the road in the second half
of the season. Well, it is, But I mean, I've
(01:29:56):
always thought this about the Patriots, that home and ode Um.
They went through about a ten year period where their
offense was almost exactly the same at home as it
was on the road. I don't think. I'm not saying
that they're impervious and they would rather play on the
road than playing at home, but I think that's becoming
(01:30:19):
less and less a factor as years go on in
the NFL, just because I think teams are so well
suited to travel now other than to travel in in
bad weather. And you know for the Patriots that doesn't
matter because they're used to playing in bad weather. Well
that's the voice of Peter King MMQB the MMQB of

Peter King joining us on the Doug Gotlip Show. All right,
let's move to the NFC. The Cowboy Boys, um Zeke
(01:31:01):
Ellett is going to play Sunday Night against the Giants
instead of getting into the Zeken and ultimately what what
plays out here? Just look the Giants of the one
team that figured out the Cowboys last year. Feels like
the Giants think they're better than last year and the
Cowboys super talented but different than last year. What are
your thoughts in the game forget about the Zeke stuff. Well,
(01:31:25):
I think the one thing about the Cowboys is that
Rod Mayor and Elly had to use Scotch tape and
bailing wire last year to put together a good defense,
a good enough defense, and he's got even a bigger
job to do. A secondary is extremely young. They don't
have a legitimate pass for us threat, so he's gonna
have to invent that just like he did last year.
(01:31:47):
I think the other thing that would be slightly concerning
is that you know, they they all of a sudden
now have to get three running backs right now ready
to play for this season, Ezekiel Elliott, Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris,
because they're all going to have to play significant roles.
(01:32:08):
My big problem right now with Dallas is that you know,
to me, in my opinion, when you look at when
you look at the defense that they have against the
Giants coming up, I mean, the Giants have a huge
edge on defense right now coming into this game. So
I think, I think this is gonna this is not
(01:32:30):
gonna only going to have to be in a Zekiel
Elliott game, but Dak Prescott is going to have to
make four or five very very big plays in this
game for Dallas to win. What about what about Dak Prescott, Peter,
What are people in the NFL saying about the likelihood
he has sustained success this year. Uh, it's his job.
It's funny. It's funny, but you you when you when
(01:32:51):
the name Dak Prescott comes up. One of the reasons
they think that he's unlikely to suffer the proverbial sophomore
slump is because he is he is a total flatline person,
and he hasn't been really affected by you know, his
incredible first season. He's got a little Russell Wilson in him.
He just goes to work and does his job and uh,
(01:33:15):
you know, and plays well and and then he is
driven to try to play better. So I think most
people think that he's going to come in and have
a very good year. You know. Obviously the question becomes
for six weeks, is Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris um,
you know, are they going to be able to carry
the mail as much as Jason Garrett is hoping they will.
(01:33:38):
I think that's going to be a key thing. But
you know, I also think that that you know, this
is also going to be able to telling somebody the
other day, I said, if you drafted Cole Beasley in
your fantasy league those six weeks, I'd play him every
one of those because I think that that what what
Jason Garrett, what Scott Linahan really want to do is
(01:34:00):
when Ezekiel Elliott goes away, they want to use more
of a controlled passing game or of a slot passing
game maybe than they normally would. So I think Jason
Witten Cole Beasley could really get heavy use in weeks
two or six for the Cowboys or two thor seven. Um.
The arguably the most competitive game and compelling game this
(01:34:21):
weekend is the Packers welcome in Seahawks. Seahawks seemed to
be loaded for bear and the Packers finally, Ted Thompson
finally went out and spend some money. You mentioned Scott
Linehan and what he had to do with duct tape.
Same thing had to be done for the defensive backfield
of the Green Bay Packers. Did they add the right
pieces to help Aaron Rodgers? Well, obviously time will tell.
(01:34:46):
But the one thing about the one thing about this
team right now that I think is really really interesting
is I don't know how you're blocking their front, their
front four or five six. I mean, you know, imagine
you at Frank Clark coming off the bench. He's starting
for twenty nine teams in the nfl um and and
(01:35:07):
you know, with the addition of Sheldon Richardson, you know,
I look at Sheldon Richardson is one of these guys,
one of these classic players who's been on a bad
team for a while, and all of a sudden, America
is going to get to know who he is. I
think he's got a chance to be the best three
technique tackle in football this year. A chance. Now he's
going to have to do it, but he's going to
(01:35:28):
have the support around him and behind him. It isn't
just you know the fact you've got Michael Bennett on
one side, Cliff Avril on another side, But I mean
you've got Bobby Wagner and kJ right behind you. I mean,
this guy is going to have a tremendous opportunity to
make huge plays in that Seattle defense. I think that
because look, Seattle's offense is not going to be intergalactic.
(01:35:50):
It just it isn't. It's not suited to be that.
But their defense has a chance, has a chance to
be as good as their great defenses of two and
three years ago. Look, as a layman, I would agree,
having watched him in the preseason, seeing the additions, I
can't wait for to get started tonight, and of course
love going to your site on a daily and sometimes
two or three times a day basis. It's the m

That is this Saturday, ten o'clock Eastern times, seven o'clock

I don't know. Saw the story. I just wanted to

suspicious activity in the backseat of a car involving an
inmate trustee at at for Far Queer County Jail led
to to Tuesday arrest of Teresa Joe Birchfield, the wife
of an ethics attorney to President Donald Trump's business organization. Burchfield,
fifty three, is married to Bobby Birchfield, a partner at
(01:39:27):
Washington's King and Spalding. It's a law office, who was
appointed as an independent ethics advisor to Donald J Revocable
trust in in January. Anyway, the bigger thing was Burchfield
and a twenty three year old inmate. We're apparently having
relations in the car. There's a bunch of stuff to
(01:39:47):
go here, right, Um, the inmate thing, like that's the chickstig,
bad boys they do, but in a car. It still
happens in the car. Rama's been married too long. I've
been married too long. Maybe we need to ask music
who's still very much in the infatuation occasionally living in
(01:40:08):
sin but living on their own in the car like
this in the car, Like don't we have the ability?
I mean, I don't know, in the car. I guess
he's an inmate. She's an inmate trustee. Nobody saw this
as a bad idea that a fifties some amown year
old woman was an inmate trustee for a year old man.
Like nobody like like, Oh no, they're just going on
(01:40:30):
a pleasure. They're just She's just take him out for
a day so he can enjoy the sights and scenes
around the prison. I don't know, let's welcome in the
One of the newest members of the Fox Sports college
football team, Mark Helfredt, joins us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Uh. Look,
(01:40:50):
I want to get to the game, but I want
to ask you personally, that was your first official game
to call for Fox Sports, having come off been on
the sidelines for years and or I haven't been in
a box calling plays for years. What was that experience
like watching a game and watching two teams in Texas
get down early on those special teams blunders, nearly come
(01:41:11):
back and win the game. What was the experience like
as a former head coach to call your first game? Well, uh,
all over the map, as you can imagine, how trying
to try not to screw up, trying to trying to
get in and get out when I have something to say.
But it was a lot of fun. You know, Petros
is awesome work with Justin Kutcher and the rest of
the crew were great. Uh, it's weird at the end
(01:41:32):
of the game to not have a final score, you know,
so to speak to kind of be judged by. But
it was very odd, very odd when you see, uh,
you know, the Texas fans in the second quarter are
are bowing and restless, and you know the end is
near and you're realizing that that's the exact same field
that Charlie Strong was carried off of the year before
(01:41:53):
at that exact time, and so, uh, just a lot
of that, a lot of the you know, as as
as you said as a coach or sitting there thinking
about okay, special teams, this and all the huge plays,
the impact plays that happened that game, or every coach's
nightmare in that first game. Yeah, you know, it's it's
it's fascinating to me what you're going through because like
I've kind of lived the opposite right like where I
always want to coach and you almost like want to
(01:42:16):
be in that losing locker room at halftime to make
some adjustments to do some things. And and I've also wondered,
you know, guys, who comes from when when Urban Meyer
left Florida and he went to the booth, I thought, well,
if urban Meyer thinks he's not going to come back
and coach, he's wrong because it's different to be in
the energy of a stadium as opposed to being in
a studio where there isn't. You kind of have to
generate that energy the energizer, bunny. But still like the
(01:42:41):
people around the you know, the fans, the football you're
going meeting with the coaches, watching tape, uh, smelling the
grass or whatever? Um that mind? Does it make you
want to get back on the sideline more? Or do you? Uh?
Do you do you like the idea of exciting and
owing where there's no ramifications of it. I can certainly
see it from all those angles that you know. Afterward,
(01:43:03):
it was a weird. That was a word. That's a
first time in twenty one years where you don't there's
no no let or no loser. How do we do?
How do we do? I thought we did great? But
I have no idea? Right exactly? Yeah, exactly? Um, but
yes absolutely. At halftime you're sitting there, Okay, hey, they
need to do and you have all the answers, right,
It's it's easy. But coming out, you know, reminding me
I remember the first time I was. I was on
(01:43:26):
the field early in my career and I was in
the booth for a long vast majority of it. I
remember coming down at halftime for the first time and
guys are like bleeding and sweating. You're like, wait, oh, yeah,
this is a real thing. But the the biggest moment
that that kind of hit me of Okay, I missed this.
It's just being a you know, the the guys, the team,
the players, when you're you know, meeting obviously that situation
(01:43:46):
to meet with the Texas guys and kind of being
around their practice and and just whatever. Seeing guys jack
around or get dialed in or or you know, all
their last minute preparations. Being that in that setting is
is It's unique. Mark Healthy joining us on the Doug
Gottlip Show. Look, I don't it's hard. Changing culture is hard,
and Charlie was trying to change culture there and I
(01:44:07):
don't know if he I know, he didn't have the
time and I'm not sure he had the support to
ever do it. Even if it, it wouldn't have gotten
done anyway. I I just I don't ever thought I
think people were completely bought in on what he was
trying to do. Such a he was so different than
what he followed. It was really really hard. So like, look,
you give Herman a bit of a pass in terms
(01:44:28):
of changing culture, where I would say Tom Herman, I
was disappointed. He's seen as a master play caller, right,
and they got down that red zone, and I didn't
love the dinkin and duncan and not taking shots in
the end zone some of the things that they were doing.
Am I wrong to to criticize Tom Herman his first
game in Texas, not for the win and loss, not
(01:44:48):
for the culture stuff, but more for that's it's fair.
I mean, any anytime something does work, you're gonna it's
gonna get get you know, dissected. But I think the
biggest red flag, and maybe maybe that's what they were thinking,
is hey, we we can't do this, so we need
to in your words, dncon dunk. But there weren't a
lot of or any just I'm Texas, you're not let's
(01:45:10):
run the football productive plays and and Maryland got after
them up front with a three man rush one man.
But is that is that a product of his offense
or is that a product of his personnel? That's what
I don't know. You know, when you're not on the inside,
I don't know what what what it looked like the
other day it was Maryland played, you know, harder, better,
(01:45:31):
longer up front than Texas did on both sides of
the ball. And so that that again, is that a
byproduct of where they were. It doesn't matter. It's his
team right now, and I know he's taken some some
flak for that. And you have to solve those problems. Uh,
you know on the third down of the fourth down
play when they kind of ran the little arrow routes
with with sometimes guys blocking and sometimes not in the
(01:45:53):
end zone. Uh, you know those those I'm sure they're
sitting in their film room right now going out, crap,
we should have pounded it one more timer, ran one
of the wildcat plays one more time, or you know,
given it to the two fifty pounds table back one
more time. But that's that's a part of it. What
do you make of Urban saying Urban Meyers saying he's
driven insane by Tom Herman's commons, Right, that's his former
(01:46:17):
Like do you know how that for people who don't understand,
like Tom Herman was his offense parting they won the
national champion ship, he goes to Houston and and like, look,
there's a certain lore that follows in because he did
such a good job with different quarterbacks during that national
championship year. But but that's his guy, that's his football family.
To say that really interesting, right, Those are two extremely
(01:46:38):
extremely proud men, let's put it that way, too extremely
competitive guys, and and uh, you know, I know Urban
took some took some heat when he left Florida and
the circumstances of that, and so it's all that, all
that stuff buddled into a bunch of first game stuff.
Mark Calfrey joining us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Um,
(01:46:59):
you you've been a part of the Mariotta experience, right
where you had a guy who everyone knew was not
just a stud at the college level when he won
the Highstan Trophy, but also was going to be a
really good quarterback in the Nation football game. He seems
to be living up to that. Late Sunday night we
saw we saw another good one in Josh Rosen. You've
also seen Sandar take me through Rosen and your sense
(01:47:24):
of how much of that is real and how much
of that was just a moment and some luck because
there were they had the they had the what delay
a game, which is on him. They had the false
start when everybody wasn't set up, which is on him.
They had some throws that could have been picked off,
which in some level is on him. Like what's your
(01:47:44):
sense of Rosen and balancing out against Mariota who you coach. Well,
there there's no comparison to my world of of you know,
and that it has way more to do with off
the field and than than on the field, with with
Marcus versus Josh Rosen. I think the best thing about
Josh Rosen from you know, last season's right now is
(01:48:04):
we haven't heard very much about him from him, you know,
So hopefully that means back to work and just rededicate
himself to getting it done on the field and taking
care of everything. And he needs to do off the
field because there was a lot more you know, style
and fluffed than substance than wins uh in his case,
because there's a ton of talent on that team. Um,
(01:48:25):
Sam Donald is fantastic. Uh. You know, we had him
in camp when I was at Oregon and in the
second I met the guy, you know, it was one
of those things that like, this guy's going to sc
why why we've wasted our time? And and I mean
that in a good way. I don't I don't mean
that his grandpa went grandpa went there. You started, you
started to talk to him, but he was he was
(01:48:46):
like playing with a video game. You know. You could
tell him, hey, I want you to roll out this way,
and you know it's like maybe like Tiger Wood and
his heyday have aimed for the right corner of that
you know, chair or whatever it is, and and he
would just kill it. I can't wait to see, you know,
his progression this fall. You know, everybody's making a big
deal out of their first game and not scoring winning
(01:49:07):
nineties and nothing. I think, you know, I think they
did what they had to do in that game. But
those guys, you know, these guys obviously need to do
it for a little bit longer before they anywhere near
that that category. Mark Helfers joins us to be on
the call of Minnesota at Oregon State, so you realize
you have to say nice things about organ State. Now,
I know it's a it's an all got lead Saturday. Yeah,
this is all got leave Saturday. My brothers and Assistant
(01:49:29):
coaches Coach. Helford says that at Oregon State in the
men's basketball side, um, p J Flex, head coach of Minnesota,
he's got like a reality show right on on ESPN. Uh,
he's got he had he brought the row the boat
thing with him from Western Michigan. And I had a
buddy who who's in who's in the industry, who texted
me He's like, p J. Fleck real thing or is
it all a facade? And I was like, well, they're
(01:49:50):
always the real thing until they're not right. That's just
like right, Okay. So as a young guy, and you know,
like you know, you have to you get known as
a young guy of coming up. What's your sense of
Fleck And how real the image that he's created actually is?
I think, um, I think he certainly believes it. You know,
(01:50:12):
he's certainly he's what he's saying. And it seems since
here around the program, you know, having talked to a
bunch of their guy week assistance players, Uh, it's not
just you know, it's not just something on a wall
or something you put on a jersey or whatever. Uh,
And it has been effective to this point. You know,
whether that works in the Big ten or not long term. Uh,
(01:50:33):
nobody knows that, but they they you know, he took
over a team that was, you know, won nine games.
These guys, aren't you know, it's about rebuilding mode. Uh.
They obviously had some issues last year a few guys,
which sounds like that was much needed. Um. But yeah,
I think he's he's a guy that that Again, he
believes a hundred percent what he's doing and it has
(01:50:54):
been extremely successful. At this point, that was gonna be.
I listen, how you're in big boy football right and
you're Minnesota's not like you're lining up at Michigan playing
against Minnesota. You're lining up Minnesota. And at some point
in his career he's gonna have Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska,
Iowa all on the Wisconsin all on the schedule the
same year. Then we'll see how much what would it's
(01:51:14):
really like to be p J. Fleck? But uh, I
can't wait to call. I'll just tell you, as a
guy who's done what you're doing, three man booth is hard.
I thought you guys are really really good together. I
learned a lot and I didn't feel like I was
being lectured which is ultimately your job. You guys told
me why it was. It was a really good team.
I look forward to to seeing the call Saturday night.
All right, I appreciate you having us, and yeah, those
(01:51:36):
are great greaper guys to work with. That'll be good.
That's Mark Helfrich uh newest Fox Sports one analyst, Justin Cutcher.
Petro's Papadakis will join him. Minnesota p J Fleck taking
out Oregon State beaver is not great this year. Did
beat Portland State uh to to move the record to
one on one for losing to Colorado State to start
the year, and of course he calls upsets just he's
(01:51:57):
like the Gus Johnson. Now I only calls upsets Maryland
over Texas. Going back to last weekend, let's catch up
with Dan buy Er find out what else is going
on in sports. What do you got Dan done? Quick
update from at least date of Florida and Hurricane Irma.
University of Florida has now canceled their game against Northern
Colorado that is scheduled for this Saturday. They will not
(01:52:17):
play the game. Originally, the twenty second ranked Gators moved
up the kickoff time from an evening kickoff to a
noon Eastern time kickoff. Now they're not even gonna play
the game at all. Florida Northern Colorado game canceled this
Saturday because of Hurricane Irma. Other news in the football world,
of course, Tonight it's the start of the NFL regular season.
Chiefs and Patriots get things going and the special season
(01:52:38):
opener at Foxborough. They'll started at eight thirty Eastern time.
Brown's rookie defensive end at first overall picked Miles Garrett's
gonna miss Sunday's opener against Pittsburgh after injuring his ankle
at yesterday's practice. It's a high ankle sprain, as Garrett
could miss multiple games. Other injuring news in the NFL,
Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Junior said, our practice again
today because of his sprained ankle. Bills running back Lashawn McCoy,
(01:53:00):
dealing with an illness, practiced on on a limited basis
today but should go against the Jets on Sunday. The
Las Vegas Police Union is asking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell,
who investigate Seahawks defensive and Michael Bennett for what they
believe were false accusations made against the Las Vegas Police
departments and Aaron Judge. Doug Homer number thirty nine on
the season, Yankees grab game one of a double header
(01:53:23):
against the Orioles nine to one. You know a couple
of things here, Um, I understand I have a cousin
who's stuck on turks and caicos, and that they're right,
they're right about to get the eye of this hurricane.
I understand situations like that, but hey, if you're in
Florida right out the hurricane guy like right, like, if
you don't have the means, that's that's one thing. Like listen,
(01:53:45):
I I just couldn't or in Houston when they didn't evacuate,
because the hurricane itself wasn't that bad. It was just
the hurricane got stuck. And last time they evacuated for
hurricane they had even more problems because of the because
the roadways there anyway, like right out the hurricane guy,
come on, dude, get in your car and go to
the airport or just drive just keep going north and
(01:54:07):
eventually go to the west. My rounders lugger out man, Like, okay,
if you don't have the means, I understand, and if
you didn't have time. But like we've been talking about
this hurricane now for the better part of three days.
It's not hitting Florida until Saturday. It's Thursday. Pack up
your car, I get your dog, get your cat, get
(01:54:28):
your bird, and get the hell out of town. Right
out the hurricane. Guy. Um, I think I found a
parallel for Michael Bennett. Michael Bennett has been an outspoken,
has been a spokesperson for civil rights. I mean, like
I I actually think he's super interesting. He and his
brother martellis interesting dudes, talented dudes, very good football player.
(01:54:53):
I think he's exaggerating the story based upon honestly, I
do based upon the Las Vegas Police Department, not the union.
Unions always support their guys, So the union repped telling
the story and supporting their guys. Even NFL, the NFL
p A supports their own guys. Right. But when the
Las Vegas Police Department comes out and says like, we
(01:55:16):
just don't see any case here of racial profiling, and
they say we got add twenty cameras, even though the
body cameras were not activated on the police police officer
who's making the arrest or making it, it was was
put him in handcuffs. We got enough cameras. We feel
really confident that there was no racial profiling that took
place here, no police brutality that took place. And look,
(01:55:38):
I think there is a good It is a it
is a to try and rid the country of police
brutality is a good thing. It's a lot. This is
a lot like um in many ways. The what feels
like the accuser in the Ezekiel Elliott deal, right like
I did. If you've read the Ezekiel Elliott accuser these documents,
(01:56:02):
like she's done things apparently where she was you want
to know how Lucky Whitehead was cut Right after they
broke up, she was sending the screenshots of hotel room
reservations for her and Lucky Whitehead like, come on, man,
like you're really And the point is that all of
(01:56:23):
us should be vigilant in trying to rid the country
of domestic violence and violence against women, violence against children,
like violence in general. But like I don't want violent
offenders playing in the NFL, playing collegiance sports professional sports.
Right but when you're making false claims, you end up
(01:56:44):
doing more damage to people that were actually harmed, right Like,
because now of a sudden, it's even if it's a
one and ten thousand claims of whether it's rape domestic
violence are made up. It plants a seed of doubt
that shouldn't exist. We should take a woman's word for it.
(01:57:07):
But man, you read some of this stuff, text messages,
the the screenshots, uh, some of the other things that
other people have said, and you're like, wow, now, I
I don't think her claims are legitimate, and then I
start to doubt anybody else's claims. That's that's reasonable. Michael
(01:57:31):
Bennett has a huge platform because he's a very good
player in the Nation Football League, and he's also very
bright and well spoken, and he can stand up and
speak for himself and go like, hey, I'm against police
brutality and I'll kneel before that's fine, but do we
see the video of it. I don't think it looks
like police brutality, and the Las Vegas Police Department seems
to agree. Get the police department is all these you know,
(01:57:56):
they're they're they're like any corporation. They're more prone to
a paulologize first, right, like just just apologize, to apologize
and make it go away. And they're not apologizing because
apparently they don't think that this was the wrong path
or the wrong way. Like look, he might have felt
like he was abused, or he was brutalized or wrongly accused,
(01:58:18):
but take our perspective. We walked into a casino there,
we thought there was an active shooter. We see a
guy hiding behind something in spring up. When we tell
people to freeze and he runs away. We tackle, when
we cuff him, we identify him. Ten minutes later, we
let him go while explain to him why we cuffed him,
why everything took place. And now two weeks later he
accuses us of police brutality and racial profiling. Like, now,
(01:58:40):
that's not that's this. We're doing our jobs, that's what
they're saying. And in many ways this does it does
damage to a cause, which is a good cause. The
best way to approach it for me is just hey,
I can be anti police brutality, but also think that
Michael benn In is one of the biggest stars the
NFL might miss the first game of the season. I
(01:59:02):
have details. I will share them next. What true car
You can find out what other people in your area
paid for the same car you're looking for. New or
used visit True Car to enjoy more confident car buying experience.
Doug Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio, all right, got my
prediction to make on tonight's game. I'll give you that.
(01:59:24):
Ramos will start to track it for me. My picture
incredible last year. Um, before we get to that, though,
let's get to the press, the press. Do do do
do do Do Do Do do do do do do
do Dan Buyo what he got for me. It's not
(01:59:47):
representative Buyer. I'm not running for office anymore. It's just
just Dan Buyer is good there. Whoever that guy was.
University of Florida, as I mentioned earlier, canceled their game
against Northern Colorado because of Hurricane Irma. Moved up the kickoffs.
I'm from an evening start to a new eastern time start,
but now just going to cancel the game altogether. No
point in making up a game against Northern Colorado for Florida,
(02:00:09):
So that game has been called off. Waiting word on
other matchups. Remember Miami's, by the way, two years in
a row, Florida loses the home game to a hurricane.
Last year the hurricane missed them, but they lost that
home game to l s U. That is devastating for
all those businesses in Gainesville. Hotel rooms, all that stuff,
just devastating for them. Not likely. I'm not crying here
like this. I'm just you know, in in terms of businesses
(02:00:30):
and the lifeblood of a university, especially one like Florida,
that's a that's a tough that's a tough one part
of the location. But Gainesville, you know, is not right
by the coast. Gainesville is Inland out and a half
Inland and north. Yeah, I'm well, well North, uh and
so I there's a reason they waited to this later
date in order to cancel news from the NFL. And
we start in Cleveland. We touched on it yesterday and
(02:00:53):
the Browns got the dreaded bad news high ankle sprain
doug for Miles Garrett, the team's first overall pick of
the NFL Draft and rookie defensive end, won't play against
Pittsburgh and likely to miss multiple games with the high
ankle spring. Um. Oh, so, let me get this straight.
They cut Calvin Prior today right, Yes, yes, got into
a fight with a teammate. They traded Joe Hayden. That
(02:01:16):
was that was the Browns as well, wouldn't. Yes, okay,
and now they don't have Martello's Bennett Garrett. I'm sorry,
I got pet Boys and I'm Miles Garrett. Yeah, in
the confidence pool, it was to be a pretty good week.
Take Pittsburgh Steels, wouldn't it even on the road? Eight
and a half point favorites? Are those Pittsburgh Steelers. Life happens, Yeah,
(02:01:36):
it does load up there. Huh, that could be the case. Hey,
let's stay in that division. Bengals game linebacker vants Berfect
a three year extension. We're thirty eight million dollars plus.
He's also going to serve a three game suspension to
start the year. But the news just coming down from Cincinnati.
ESPN the first reported Vantes Perfect it's a three year extension.
In that interesting right, like everybody in the rest of
(02:01:58):
the league hates him. Thank was like we love him.
Here's more money, hey, and don't worry about how much
he's getting paid. He's gonna end up giving it back
to the league anyway. Right, That's like the guy that
gets paid and goes off to Vegas, Like, don't worry,
he ain't come back with it. The I wish you
had more a f c North news of Joe Hayden.
By the way, it wasn't traded, got cut, then signed
with Pittsburgh. But um, you touched on it earlier. Patriots
(02:02:20):
wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell placed an i R with the
knee injury. Of course, Chiefs Patriots tonight. How about this
from the NFC. Johns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Set
out practice again today because of an injured ankle. Sunday
starting to become more and more questions Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. Sorry,
I thought we'd got to the truck poll on Sunday. Um, yeah, so,
Odell beck here there's a switch. Odell Beckham Jr. Might
(02:02:43):
not play Ezeki Elliott will play? Right? Like, wait a second.
A week ago the opposite was true. Um, all right,
we'll have we'll we'll keep an eye on that, Jim.
How about this, if you're keeping an eye on the NBA.
The Clippers are selling seats to home games that they're
calling the Star Seats at Staples Center. Doug that reportedly
(02:03:04):
cost one hundred and seventy five thousand dollars a seat
for a full season. Yeah, broke it down to about
four thousand dollars a seat. They're gonna break up the
scores table. Put about eight seats in all near mid
court front row so the celebs can sit courtside at
the Clippers game. Clipper they don't have Chris Paul anymore, right, correct?
(02:03:27):
Good luck with that? Good love with that? Like, uh, well,
the Calves are coming to town and the Warriors are
coming to down. Let me look, when I was a kid,
he used to go to l a sports arena and
you could bus. I remember I sat in the second row.
I scalped some tickets. So um oh, how the times
have changed. But good luck with that. Sitting courtside tonight,
(02:03:48):
Fabio and Mindy Cone, formerly of Facts of Life. Um,
I love college basketball news to bring up with you, Doug,
because I know it's it's your true love. Big Ten
Conference released its conference sched ll for the upcoming season.
Remember they're gonna play their conference tournament at Medicine Square
Garden a week early this year on Fox on Fox. Yes,
the first conference game opening night December one for the
(02:04:12):
Big Ten, Yes, starting a whole month before when they
usually do. So. The conference season for the Big tenors
will start December one, well, here's where it's smart. It's
smart because some of those conferences they play conference games
in late December. There's nobody there early December. There still
are some folks that are there. Do you know what
the first game is? Um, I gosh, I thought it
was Michigan State. The best team I thought Purdue was
(02:04:34):
was playing in a new So the schedule released today
and finally, welcome Backville home. Here comes the Judge. Excuse me,
(02:04:56):
I aarned Judge home run number thirty nine of the
Yanks Radio network. They topped the Oriols nine one for Judge,
his second home run in the month or September, had
three in all of August. Yankees winners today. By the way,
Perdue travels to take on Maryland in that opener in Illinois,
takes on Northwest. Will be good. That was the press
disappointing for w f ANN New York. There. That's that's
(02:05:19):
John John Sterling did not was not alleged to have
committed fraud. John Sterling and Susan Walban, we'd like to
see them go instead. You know, we're gonna lose Frances
in a couple months. In Craig Carton's facing federal charges,
you know, kidding sort of Patriots and eight point favorite music.
Who you got. I'll take the Pats Ramo, so you
(02:05:39):
got New England taking New England and the points so
you got their uh Dan buyer a lot of points.
Give me Kansas City tonight plus the eight I'm gonna take.
Eight is a lot. I wish it was seven or
six and a half. Especially I'm gonna take um. I'm
gonna take the Pats because Kancity not the pass rush
(02:06:00):
at home, plus a new running back. Enjoy football season.
We'll be back tomorrow with Brian Billick and Anthony Heron
stug Gotlip Show
