We have a love and hate upcoming top of next hour,
and I have a list here and I do have

(00:45):
to prry it down. I mean, is my show. So
if I want to do the entire segment alone, I can,
but I usually, like, you know, Nick Cope's gonna be
joining us, Dan Byer be joining us. Of course, she
got Jase do Iowa Sam. I'm sure they have things
to get. There was so much to love and some
things to hate this weekend, and we'll get to that
top of next hour. But I mean, if you like sports,

(01:07):
October it's got to be your month, right, gotta be
your month. Got litt preseason basketball just to get you excited.
Oh w in THEWN college football, unbelievable weekend, NFL football,
great weekend, and Major League Baseball's playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Wow wow.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yesterday in London. Now, our boss Scott Shapiro's a he's
a Minnesota Minnesotian, miss Minnesota Ian Minnesotan, mina Sultan, and
he went to London. Check out the Vikes take on
the Jets. Now, Sam Donald was good, solid early, but
it was really more don't lose the game, did have

(01:44):
a pick, he was fine, they won. I think the
storyline is more Aaron Rodgers wasn't very good. And it's
not like this is week one. It's not like we
can say, well, you missed that thing in OTAs and
maybe yes and thrown to these guys or whatever, like hmm,
Well here's Aaron Rodgers on his own performance.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
See, I was blowing my standard.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
I just found out I've never thrown two ficks in
the first quarter before, So that's the first one of
us costs obviously seven and the other you know, could
have cost three. So in a game where you lose
by six, you know, plays like that are exponentially highlighted.
So three turnouts for me is definitely out of character.
And I'm disappointed.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, I'm Look, he owned it. There's nothing you can
do but own it. Some people don't want to. But
that's not the point. On the last drive when they
could have won the game, he overthrew a wide receiver
by a good five yards And I don't know if
he's washed or what was going on. I will tell
you that this is actually kind of a reasonable thing,

(02:47):
not just because of his age, are coming out the injury,
because of both. And if you guys remember Jason Kidd's
last year playing in the NBA, Jason gets a Hall
of Famer, one of the great point guards the history
of his last year he was playing with the with
the New York Knicks and they went to the playoffs
and suddenly he could make a layup. Not a layup.

(03:08):
When it goes like it's gone, it's gone. And the
difference between Aaron and Kirk Cousins, I think it's twofold one. Look,
I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sit here and tell
you Aaron doesn't work because I don't think. I don't
think that's the case. I don't. I think he worked
diligently to try and get back last year. I think

(03:30):
you worked to prepare himself. But the first part of
it is, hey, look, if we're just being honest, football
is not his only thing anymore. It's just it's not
his only thing. And you can get away with a
little bit when you're younger. You can't when you're older.
And remember he did miss time with OTAs. And look,

(03:54):
there's a relationship piece in terms and leadership piece with
the players, but there's also you gotta through throwing with
different movement than you had previously, got to get used
to that, to have to have to. And then the
other piece to it is not only is football not
his only thing anymore, maybe it never was, but what

(04:19):
made Aaron special is not just the accuracy and arm
strength and intelligence. It's that he could move, really move
And yeah, some of it was running, but a lot
of it was in and around the pocket and throwing
at awkward angles whatever. Just great movement. That changes when
you tear your achilles stendon. It just does. He doesn't

(04:41):
look like facially, he looks young and fresh. His body
doesn't look bad. It's not like he's put on weight.
The ball doesn't call him off. But man, all of
a sudden, a guy who never turned it over turns
it over. Guy who is the peak of accuracy can
be inaccurate. I had we had a i'll just say,

(05:05):
a really nice luxury foreign suv, one of the one
of the companies that you count on to always say
to cars never break down. So but it was a
luxury brand one. And that's when the kids were little,
and you know, we got the extended warranty, you got
to one hundred thousand mile warranty whatever for the power
train and transmission. And I'm telling you, we got to

(05:27):
one oh five and the transmission went, and there's some
engine stuff, and I had a car dealer pulled me aside, like, look,
these guys, these things are incredibly well made. But no
matter how well made it is, you get a one
hundred thousand miles on a on a gas gas engine, like,
things are going to start to go. That's exactly what happened.

(05:48):
We've we've become so accepting of a new reality that
you can play into your forties, you realize it's really hard,
it takes. It's a very unique player. And oh yeah,
by the way, Tom Brady played in his forties, but
athleticism was never his thing, never his thing. Kirk Cousin's

(06:11):
on his forties, but coming off the same injury one,
he's not as old two. Athleticism is never his thing.
Athleticism has been Aaron Rodgers thing, and he I don't
know if it's a movement thing, a timing thing. And
then you know what happens to you start over compensating,
not just with throws where you get rid of it
a little bit earlier because you don't want to get hit,

(06:33):
so you got to adjust and guys get rid of it
earlier than they ever used to. And then there's the
confidence element of it and other people's confidence in you.
And just what a disaster trip for the Jets where
Aaron Rodgers suddenly looks old. Here's Robert Salah on the
Jets run game.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Those are things we got to continue to work on.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
The run games clearly not good enough.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
You know, felt like coming out of training Campo is
going to be a strength for us, and then obviously
it hasn't been.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
They no, sir, and look, you rebuild your offensive line.
This is sometimes what looks like when Aaron Rodgers doesn't
get all his reps. This is what it looks like
when you got an older quarterback. This is what it
looks like. And oh yeah, by the way, did you
see Aaron Rodgers signaling to the sideline to get the
plays in sooner? That's Nathaniel Hackett. If you're if you're

(07:18):
a Bronco fan, you know exactly what that's like.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
This is the best of the dog dot Leap Show
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
What Up with Doug Gottlieb Show Fox Sports Radio Coming
to you from the tyrech dot Com studios. Tyre dot Com,
I would get their unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road as protection, over ten thousand recommending dollars tyrat dot
com sway tire mind should be Hey, welcome in. I'm
exhausted from the weekend. I watched a lot of sports
this weekend. I like, did my job and watch a

(07:49):
lot of sports. That's that's crazy. I watched two football
games live, a high school football game. Shout out to
North the Bold Big Big Dub on homecoming over Edmund
Santa fe I think it was thirty five to seven,
thirty five to seven, thirty five to seven, and then

(08:10):
watched West Virginia the Ears come in and beat my
Pokes at Boompicken Cadium. In the middle of that, got
some recruiting done. Big JUCO event in Norman, Oklahoma. I
have to tell you the Trey Young or the Young
Family facility. I can't. I think it's Young Family Academy.
I forget it. Brand new eight courts and it is
an absolute palace just off by thirty five in Norman,

(08:32):
very close to where the building Oklahoma's new arena. Really
good junior college event. And then obviously watched a ton
of football and baseball on TV. We got Major League Baseball.
I just heard from Dan Byer getting ready to get underway.
We got money at football tonight as well. The Sun
and Night game was delayed, which helped, as Jay Stews said,
last hour, like if you're watching that Dodge game, like, man,

(08:53):
I want to turn over. You got an hour and
a half of a rain delay, a massive rain delay.
You're like, wow here in southern California, Like I've never
seen rain like that. Yeah, that's that's that's Midwest East
Coast Uh, that's a big time rainstorm. Of course, speaking
of rain and weather, if you're down in Tampa, we're
named those evacuated areas. I mean you can. Let's do
us here on Fox Sports Tradio. Obviously you listen to

(09:15):
the news as well. But we hope you get to
We hope you get to safety. Got a good second
hour for you. We do this every Monday. Dan Byer
is here. Of course you hear him on Sundays on
Fox Sports Radio. Kay Stu is here. Uh New York
Sam is here. By the way, New York Sam. Did
you like the the calls that went for your New

(09:36):
York Yankee? Those those uh what it was those struggling
to uh put rub two pennies together? New York Yankees
Game one against the Royals. No, you're just a Mets fan.
You're only you're in New York Mets Sam. You're not
New York Yankee Sam.

Speaker 6 (09:51):
I'm actually Phillies Sam. Now you know we are going
full Phillies mode now. So Phillies escaped, got that they
split the series so far, so thank thank the maker
the Mets. Yesterday's news way.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Did not play into the bit, Sam Way, way to not.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Me I can't.

Speaker 6 (10:09):
I can't stand here, and honestly, Sam.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
And yes you can. It's called a bit.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
I'm still. I'm still big Apple Sam. I can be,
I can be.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
I can live Big Apple Sam talking about the talking
about the umpires, you're supposed to support them.

Speaker 7 (10:28):
I thought about something on his tombstone. If we outlive Sam,
I think we could say, probably will. This is where
Sam and Radio Flow went to dog.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Let's get to love and hate?

Speaker 5 (10:46):
What did you love?

Speaker 1 (10:47):
God? I love you?

Speaker 5 (10:48):
And what did you hate?

Speaker 3 (10:51):
These?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
All right, every every every Monday, we put together things
we love, things we hated. I'm just gonna I'm going
to start okay with dam. I love October. I just do.
And I look. I was in Oklahoma's hot so I
was all get out. Still. I think it's in the
eighties now it is nineties this weekends off. But when
I returned back to Green Bay, it was like full

(11:14):
falling out green Bay. The Green Bay weather in the
nine is gonna be seventy nine on Friday, but outside
of that mid sixties breezy, the leaves are turning. It
just feels like Americana. And then with it comes October.
And October is the best month of sports all year.
You get just enough basketball so you can kind of
get excited about it, you know, NBA preseason kicking off,

(11:36):
and then you get start to be meaningful, NFL football, meaningful,
college football, and baseball is kind of meaningless until you
get to October and now it's awesome. So just first
little love is for October. Then we'll go to our
resident lover boy, Dan Byer.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Doug.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I'm glad that I went second, because I was thinking
that maybe Iowa Sam or Jason would take this. I
loved everything about Vanderbilt's upset of number one Alabama on Saturday.
I even tweeted a graphic on how dominant Alabama has been.
I don't want to call it a rivalry. I guess
you could say in that series, but dating back to

(12:18):
nineteen eighty four, I gave you some visual evidence. You
may have seen it. It went viral. I think it
had one or two likes on it. But what was
also great about it was not just the postgame interviews
that you had on the field, Doug, not just a
goalpost that you mentioned. What was great was as the
fans were leaving the field, the SEC network ESPN basically

(12:42):
did this wide shot of the stadium and it was
all Alabama fans except the one section of students from
Vanderbilt at least on that sideline, on the Alabama sideline.
So all of the fans were just pouring out from
this one section while the rest of that side of
the stadium was just standing there in disbelieve that their

(13:03):
Crimson Tide didn't even lead at all during that game.
And it wasn't a fluke either, Like they made plays
at the end. They on defense, they made plays on offense.
They beat number one Alabama in what was just an
amazing upset that we saw on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
They're not the better team, they were the better team Saturday.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Yeah, yep.

Speaker 7 (13:24):
Right, So you're saying this doesn't have legs, This team,
this Vanderbilt team, isn't like a playoff team.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
But no, But but again, I think Dan's point was
the one I made a little bit earlier, which is
this was not a fluke. It wasn't like, you know, close,
It wasn't like it was in a monsoon and the
ball slipped out of dude's hands and crazy things happened. Like, no,
they were actually the better team that day.

Speaker 6 (13:52):
Vanderbilt does have a loss to Georgia State, so they're
working on. They did to beat Virginia Tech, so that's
a good win. They lost by lost Missouri by three,
so there's just a potential there. Yeah, there's also something
very symbolic about it. It's different. Honestly, it would be
different if it was number one on LSU. If it
was different if it was number one Florida. Number one

(14:13):
Alabama is just it is a.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Whole different whether Alabama deserved to be number one, or
is it number one or is not the best team.
There's something about that number one and it being Alabama
and it being Vanderbilt. It's just a different it's a
completely different feeling.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Let me read you a couple of things here. Okay,
Vanderbilt had the ball forty one minutes and thirty three seconds.
Alabama had at seventeen minutes and fifty two seconds. Vanderbilt
got twenty five first downs to seventeen first downs. They
were twelve of eighteen on third down as opposed to
Bama was only four of sixteen on third down. Now

(14:51):
yardage wise, Bama obviously a bunch of chunk plays because
total yards Bama had three ninety four, Vandy had four eighteen,
but obviously the two turnovers for Alabama, including one reception
that mill Rod through was there. They were big ones.
And you know, I mean, look, they they led the

(15:12):
entire game. It was not a fluke. And when they
had to get first downs at the end of the game,
when they're kind of holding on for dear life, they
did so Obama couldn't stop them. So good, good for
good for Alabama. Jayce, do say something nice about the weekend.

Speaker 7 (15:27):
Thank you, Doug All taking from here. Shoe hail Tani
had a three run homer on Saturday that I absolutely loved.
And you know, it's not necessarily that he hit the
home run to tie the game and they eventually won
the game. It was it's kind of like this. If
you're a Dodger fan, you understand that we have been

(15:47):
repeatedly let down by our offense over the course of
the last seven or eight years.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
In the past, your stars, especially by your stars.

Speaker 7 (15:55):
Stars, guys that we depend on that need to come
up in the clutch. And it was like, for one
moment in time, the guy that we gave all the
money to to bring in to save this to change
the ecosystem, the chemistry something. For one minute and time,
it did, and for me and daughter fans, I think

(16:16):
that's what we all fell in love with in that moment.
His bat flip was great. Just the energy and everything
else was great, But it was like, for one second
we solved our problem, and then the next fifteen or
sixteen Indians really let us down. But I'm just going
to savor that. I loved the three run Homer by

(16:36):
shohel Tani.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
Big Apple say, ah, my love for this weekend is
mostly underdogs. I'll say under a doormat here and there,
but a number of college football programs having some of
their best starts in decades. I think it's got the top.
At the top of the list, it has to be Indiana.

(17:02):
They are six and oh for the first time since
nineteen sixty seven. They're actually the first bowl eligible team
in all of college football six and oh, so that's
pretty cool. They don't have to worry about, you know,
going to a bowl game. They're already there. Incredible season
that Indiana is having. And also their coach, Kurt Signetti,
he's not a spring chicken. The man is sixty three
years old. I love that I hope he stays there

(17:24):
and just rides out his career in Bloomington, making them
a power. They've scored forty or more points in five
straight games after their first game. They've scored forty or
more five times. And then also we have Iowa State.
Like I mentioned last week, they're five and oh for
the first time since nineteen eighty Pitt Pit is five
and oh for the first time since.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Night it's going to be my hate. Thanks for stealing up.

Speaker 7 (17:46):
Sorry.

Speaker 6 (17:46):
And then Army is five and oh for the first
time since nineteen ninety six, Navy five and oh for
the first time since twenty seventeen. So couple of especially
Indiana and i was State really great stories.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
They really make you happy, Like they're like are you,
Like were you on Saturday? I being like, yes, you
know what, My day kind of sucked, but I'm glad
Pitt's five and oh, like.

Speaker 6 (18:05):
Well this is more so, I guess having their positive.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Light on stories we may have seen this week, but
this didn't change.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Your instead of something that actually made you happy.

Speaker 6 (18:15):
Why are you guys questioning whether or not this is
my love or not? Indiana going six and oh, and
I stayed having their best start since nineteen eighty was
my love of the weekend.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
I'll tell you what I love. I and no disrespect
to Dan Byer because I know it's his team. I like,
I love what the Giants did yesterday. I just kind
of quietly Daniel Jones is playing better and Tyrone Tracy Like,
did could anybody anybody picked Tyrone Tracy out of a lineup? Anybody?
I could?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Hawkey, this is invalid. You've already given your love, Doug,
and that was fall So this Giant's love and Seahawks
despair is not allowed. No, I actually with you. Remember
my buyer's remorse two weeks ago, Yeah, the Giants aren't
gonna be awful and.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
And he was right, Yeah, he was right, Like, look,
this is a real thing. I get it. We love
the names of running backs. And Saquon Barkley is a
great dude. Okay, but the Eagles aren't any better because
they have him, and the Giants aren't any worse because
they don't. They're just not. I just and and remember,

(19:28):
like Saquon Barkley, he signed for a million dollars more.
That's it over the life of his contract, maybe not
more than what the Giants offer tell us really badest
feelings more than anything else, and that made that makes
him again like this year, unless the Giants make the playoffs,
it'll be a move we should have, you know, we
should cyqua we had and make the playoffs. Right, But

(19:49):
as the years ago, he's no longer a Giant. He
kicked all that away. So I yeah, I just I do.
I do actually like what the Giants are doing and
I enjoyed that. Although and then the other to it,
well maybe we'll get to hate. But I'm watching it
and I'm thinking, here's the Broncos glorious throwbacks, and I
was like, man, see, how should be wearing theirs today too?

(20:09):
How much? How much better?

Speaker 7 (20:10):
With that?

Speaker 1 (20:11):
You still would have lost the game twenty nine to twenty,
but would have lost it in.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Yeah, I think they may wear them this Thursday against
the forty nine ers. I'm not sure. Don't quote me on,
but really really good, but they may wear them on
Thursday night.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Really, they have a lot of throwback kids. They've had
a lot of incurdash. Alright, let's get to what we
hated from the weekend. When we do hate here in
the Doug Otleip Chow Fox Sports Radio. We start with
a resident hater that is Jason Stewart.

Speaker 7 (20:36):
You know, I couldn't stand how things played out last
night at Dodger Stadium. Padre Is won. I'll give them
their credit. They kicked our ass last night, but I
will say this, starting with the Profar home run robbery
of Mookie Bets, I think it was a second or
third inning, it started an escalation of things. Alcohol all

(21:00):
combined with general stupidity, and things were thrown towards a player.
There's no room for it. I will never say that
anyone is justified in throwing anything at a player from
the stands.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Do sound like here's a butt coming, guys, I will.

Speaker 7 (21:22):
Say this, don't taunt drunk, stupid people. What Profar did
last night, going into the stands and robbing a home
run and not immediately showing the umpire acting like he
didn't catch it, it was just so strange and all

(21:44):
my time playing baseball and watching baseball, I've never seen
anything like it. You are taught to show the ball
of the umpire immediately, and the fact that he decided
in that moment in a postseason game, I'm going to
show up the fans and this section of and this
entire team before showing the bottom of the umpire speaks

(22:08):
to I think, how far we've gone the other way
in baseball, as far as decorum goes, respect goes. So
he taunts the fans and by the end of the night,
they're throwing things at him, and it got out of control.
We saw the fights in the stands. It was just ugly.
I couldn't stand seeing it. But I don't want Profar

(22:28):
or the Padres to say today that those actions were
not provoked. Those actions were provoked. That's all I'm going
to say about that.

Speaker 8 (22:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Okay, what about you there, Dan Byer.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Interesting take. You got some heat Jason on social media
as well for this right.

Speaker 7 (22:53):
Because people thought that I was defending the fans, and
not one word in any of my tweets that I
defend the fans. I simply said that Profar is not
an innocent victim in what happened last night.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Okay, I'll tell you what I didn't like this weekend,
and Douget's actually a spinoff of my love in realizing
what this new world of the college football playoff really is.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
YEP.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
I realized that the Alabama upset did not have a
resounding ripple effect around college football because of the way
that the playoff is set up. It had a big
effect on the SEC and now Alabama having a loss
that they probably didn't expect to have on their ledger,

(23:40):
and when you're trying to figure out an SEC championship game,
to now not have maybe Alabama win the games that
they were supposed to and play in that game, that's
going to put a big twist in all of this.
But if Alabama does win out or maybe loses one more,
they're still going to be in the twelve team field
and could be put in a spot that is maybe

(24:00):
advantageous for them depending on if they were to maybe
match up against the ACC champion or whoever in the
next round. So that was the one thing is usually
when we have these upsets, and the same thing with
Tennessee losing at Arkansas, you think there's going to be
this huge, huge ripple effect and how things are going
to shake up in the world of college football. And
that was true when there was a four team playoff

(24:22):
and you didn't have automatic bids and automatic buys and
the whole deal. But it didn't have that it didn't
have that ripple effect across college football because as an
Ohio State fan, really didn't do anything. If Ohio State
takes care of business against Oregon this weekend and against
Penn State the next weekend and Michigan at the end
of the year, then everything is set up for them

(24:45):
that way. But if they lose to Oregon and lose
to Penn State, then that's on themselves. But it's all
within the conference and it doesn't have that wide ranging
feel that it did previously in the four game playoff.
So that's what I hated was as much as I
I loved Vanderbilt winning, it really didn't affect the hierarchy
of college football as a whole. It did in the SEC,

(25:07):
but not in college football as a whole.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Big Apple, Sam, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
If you want, you can throw the Dodgers fans. I
don't know are fans. Can fans exhibit bad sportsmanship? Would
you call that bad sportsmanship or just unruly fans?

Speaker 7 (25:28):
Just alligerents?

Speaker 6 (25:29):
Yeah, belligerence, Okay, unwafful behavior. I guess it's it's a
little it's different than my main point here. Bad sportsmanship
is my hate of the weekend and maybe you could
throw the Dodger fans in there, but it's really watching
Alabama's players sort of react to them themselves getting beat
throughout the game I didn't care for. I saw a
lot of guys they're they're kind of being sore losers.

(25:51):
I saw Alabama players shoving Vandy players kind of into
the dirt after a play ended after the whistle. You're
seeing guys, you know, throwing late hit send driving guides
into the dirt and they were frustrated. I totally get it,
but I just didn't care for the bad sportsmanship. I mean,
they were losing to a team that they hadn't lost
to you in forty years, but the way that they

(26:12):
are acting, especially at the end of the game. Alabama's
defensive back and team captain Malachi More, he had sort
of an outburst is the seconds were taking off the clock,
and he apologized for it, but it was not a
good look from Bama. I know it's tough to lose Vanderbilt,
but they look kind of clownish there with how they
were acting in that game.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Yeah, I mean, there was definitely some bad bye language.
I had a player who not that bad, but there
was some by language stuff. I Well, we were texting
Friday and I said, hey, dude, don't even think about
playing until you can handle yourself with your body language.
Then you think about it. I don't don't ask about rotation,
roll nothing. Clean that up and then we'll talk. So

(26:56):
I'm with you, And it's one of those things. For
for Alabama, I'm sure they were frustrated they did not
stop the run to knock it out the field. Huh.

Speaker 6 (27:05):
They're very proud like they're they're they're not, They're not
at all used to losing to Vanderbilt. They're frustrated. They
know that they're physically more talented than them. But and
there they were just pushing guys in the dirt after
the whistle.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
So uh. Aaron Boon's a friend. He actually got in
a fight in high school with my brother. Played Villa Park.
My brother played at Elmadina, their arch rivals. And but
but Aby's he's a great, great dude. If you know
anything about Major League Baseball, you know the Yankees. All
they do the entire game is ride the home plate
umpires whole game. And the other thing is, again, I'm

(27:41):
not I don't even think I'm not going. I'm not
going it's rigged. You know that the baseball wants. Now,
Look if baseball gets Mets, Dodgers and uh somehow and
then the Yankees waiting for him the World Series, Like
that's really good for the sport, especially if it's Dodgers Yankees.
But I don't think that's what it's about. I just
I'm going to tell you that, like the strike zone
was completely different when the Yankees are at bat, I

(28:02):
suppose the Royals red bat. And then obviously the miscall
at second base was a big one as well. I
just I hate it. I hate that there was I
felt like such a disparity in the home plate umpires,
ball and strike calls in Game one didn't feel like
a fair fight. And I don't think it had anything
to do with the Yankees versus Red Sox. I just

(28:22):
think like the Yankees that style, they just ride your ride,
your ride, your ride you and there are some times
in which umpires and that umpire I don't blame I
was ringing dudes up for nothing anyway, but it just
it was not good. It was not good. I'd love
when you go when they go to the slow motion
replays of hitters when they get struck out and you
see their lips going that was a ball. It's just

(28:44):
love it.

Speaker 7 (28:47):
The cock comes soon enough. What can't abs?

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yes, agreed, agreed, and I was against it for a
long time. Then you're like, yeah, no, I can't do it.
I do it. That's loving hate.

Man a lot of different things going on. Did you,
Jay Stu? What was your like Sunday night? Obviously you're

(29:54):
watching the Dodger game, right, and it got away from him.
They end up losing. Tended to what was your not motivation,
but what was your energy level? One Sunday night football
was on and then it got delayed.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
It kind of worked out for us, didn't it on
the West Coast anyways? Because the Dodger game ended, and
then like the real interesting part of the Cowboys steer started.
It was always on my split screen, you know, the
YouTube TV split screen there, but it looked like just
a dog of a game for the first three quarter,
so it was almost like the end of the Dodgers

(30:29):
game and then into a decent fourth quarter of the
Cowboys game. I had a lot of energy for that.
You know, we have fantasy interest, you know, gambling interest,
and I always root against Dak Prescott. I know he's
a good guy, but I liked rooting against him, so
I was kind of disappointed that he made that completion
at the end.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Why do you root against him so much?

Speaker 7 (30:52):
I don't know if it's because he's tied to the Cowboys.
Maybe it's just if he's losing, their losing and that's
a good feeling. But there's also just something about him
that's a little off. He's a little too polish for us.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Oh there's no question there, right, Yeah, he's not polished
to a level of a preacher. But there is something
they're like, wait, what is going on here? Right, there's
a couple of really bad throws. I think that I
think the story of that game is that Pittsburgh couldn't

(31:26):
take advantage that that. And you can't sit here and
tell me, Dallas the defense is so great. And just
I've told you guys before, Justin Fields is fine. He's
not great. He's not good, and he's definitely not great.
And the record was not indicative of a guy who's
killing it. And you know, they just they can't put
you away, even when you shoot yourself in the foot

(31:49):
the way that the way the Cowboys did where the
Cowboys did so you know, here here's Dak Scott talking
about the game winning touchdown pass.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
We had a play call that we love.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
We're very confident in regardless of the defense.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Off of the line did a great job.

Speaker 6 (32:09):
Tober came over to the left, just how to make
the throw.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
Here's Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, summing
up the loss.

Speaker 9 (32:17):
You know, I just told the team there's a fine
line between drinking wine and squashing grapes in our business.
And you know that's an example of it. You know
that ball is on the ground right there in the
red area, and that's the difference.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Had you ever had you ever heard that before?

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Never heard that. I have a feeling he made that up.
But I can't not think about when you talk about
squashing grapes, I can't think of can't help but think
of that great YouTube clip about the grape lady, one
of the Alzheimer's on live TV, crushing grapes with her
feet and she falls some of some of them, the greatest,

(33:01):
one of the greatest viral videos of all time, one
of the originals too.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
Yeah, what Lucille Ball.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
No, no, no, this was a this was like I
don't know, she's like a field report fifteen years ago.
It was a live morning TV and there were crushing
grapes a little demonstration. Yeah, and a woman was up
on a kind of a lift a table platform. Yeah.
The platform a little overweight, which probably didn't help matters,
and uh yeah, she fell and the rest is just hilarious.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
I don't think her way.

Speaker 6 (33:30):
I think she slowed downy and then she started crushing
with her feet really fast, and she clipped her foot
on like the side of the bin and fell out
of the bin.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
And I don't think her weight, whatever it was, was
the reason why. I think that was just an added
comment by Jason. But it was the moaning or the groaning, yeah,
at the end that makes it for me tough to watch.
I just I can't imagine how awful that was. She
knocked the wind out of herself. That's what it sounded like,

(34:02):
the way she was groaning.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
That's sure. Just Dan Byers is a better person than me.
It's really going It comes down to, because Jase, do
what was your reaction.

Speaker 7 (34:12):
To the great plady?

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (34:14):
No, no, I think it's hilarious because you know, you
have you have the anchors back in the studio trying
to hold back laughter. So it's one of those deals.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
No, I know. But but Dan had great empathy for
her and you and I did not.

Speaker 7 (34:30):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
That's one of the funniest things.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
You Back in my long broadcasting career, I was a
field reporter at at one time.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Okay, so is there a is there a video clip
that we that you're happy, has not been brought up,
has not been brought to life where you were you
were crushing grapes.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
No, I did have the Bob for apples once and
I could not get one. So I just said, like,
you know, screw it and put my entire head in
the water and then real that that didn't even work.
But that's about it. That's as far as it goes.
Bobby for apples not as easy as it looks.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
I can't remember last time I Bob for apples.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
I only did it once, and honestly, it was for
the story, that's all it was. I wouldn't do it recreationally.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
You know, we should probably do. I mean, look, this
may be a little cheesy, and I don't know if
it works audio wise. I think it does. We got
to come up with some creative Halloween sports Halloween costumes
twenty twenty four, Okay, right, Like, I don't know if
you can do conference realignment. I don't know if you

(35:38):
can do something about the w Something about the WNBA
is pretty easy, right, Like, you could be Kaitlyn Clark
and other people if you're a woman, you could be
Kaitlin Clark and no one else wants to be around you.
Who's the WNBA player. That would be funny.

Speaker 6 (35:51):
I'll tell you.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
It's a timely Kaitlin Clark reference, not because the WNBA playoffs,
but because on today's episode of The Price Is Right,
they were giving away a popa shot and one of
the models was like nailing, like she's doing really well.
And Andrew Carry goes Jesus like, we've got Caitlyn Clark here.
So she's even crossed over to the game show. Wow, yeah,

(36:12):
we love it.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
They had in in O'Hare they have a plinko game
for like in between flights, you can go and win
stuff like in a plinko, and all I could think
of his Price is Right. It was amazing.

Speaker 7 (36:25):
It's like, man, I bet somebody in The Price Is Right.
Audience was pissed off that he didn't use Angel Reese
as the example.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
They have those on Papa Rebound. That's what it's a
rebounding game.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
They keep throwing at the backboard and keep going to
get it to the back.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
The baskets of thimble and you just get rebounds.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
That's the voice of Dan Byer. He does give really
good fantasy advice. You got check out his podcast let's
let's get his update on what else going sports.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Yeah, Doug, I will say five and oh on the
gamblers so far this year. On the Doug Gottlieb Show,
Cardinals brought it home for me on Friday. I think
the j STU team Parlay hits as well.

Speaker 7 (37:14):
One of two I thought, I forget which one was,
but I'll get back to you.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
Okay, all right, maybe it was Houston TCU.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
But mine was Oklahoma State over was.

Speaker 8 (37:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (37:24):
I didn't want to say, Sam, don't don't take my
gambling advice ever.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Stut Gottlieb Show Here on Fox Sports Radio, John Middlecoff
is our guest ring out is the podcast. Gosh, John,
there's so much to get to. I man, I don't
even know where to start. Let's let's start with the Eagles,
I believe it or not, I actually want to start
with Eagles. You know it's interesting. I'll watch the Giants

(37:50):
go and beat Seattle, and our knee jerk reaction was
no sake on Barkley. Danny Dime stinks whatever, and I
don't know how good the Giants are, But then you
know you, I think you add a Saquon Barkley to
the Eagles, and man, they're gonna be really, really good
and they're still just kind of average. How much of
it comes down to Jalen's just not that good.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
Yeah, I mean one thing with the Giants, you really
removed that first game, which I'd say aged pretty well
because Minnesota is undefeated, you know, beside a little bit
of a bumpy road over in London. They have been
excellent all season long. The quarterback has been dramatically better.
I mean, he was good yesterday. I thought he was
pretty solid against the Cowboys. He's always going to miss

(38:32):
some of those deep shots. He just he was. He
threw a couple of touchdowns against Washington and Milie Damers.
You didn't have a names yesterday. So I think when
you look at the Eagles, and I just think when
you look at that that division, you know one thing
that they've benefited from the Eagles, and I would throw
the Cowboys here too, is Washington. For the most part
in my adult life, that sucked. And the Giants now

(38:56):
had like a ten year run of being really bad. Well,
if they are just competitive and now Dave Ball's calling
the play. I've never had a problem with them letting
Saquan go because I actually think he probably makes more
sense on the Eagles, and you're not talking that much money.
It was more about the way it was filmed and
it looked like so haphazard of like what are we

(39:17):
doing now? Like this is not really how free agency works,
at least in my experience, but like, yeah, I mean,
if you're a Giants fan, I think you removed that
first game just year has been pretty successful. Just the
toughness the quarterbacks, Like who's playing better right now, Daniel
Jones or Jalen Hurst.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
I think Daniel Jones is well.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Jalen's the worst quarterback in the conference or excudent in
the division right now. Because you see Dak. I mean,
Dak still throw some of these picks. You're like, how
are you doing this? But he he's kind of got
this Eli thing without the rings off. You can watch
a drive and you're like, God, this guy is like
a first bout Hall of Famer in this next throw

(39:57):
could be something that Deshaun Watson would do. I said
on the.

Speaker 8 (40:00):
Podcast last night, I think Dak and this is where.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
I think Eli fell In too, has to be one
of the more bizarre players of all time.

Speaker 8 (40:08):
Because he's definitely good, but he also does.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
Things that are so bad. I mean the pick he
threw last night. I mean the red zone one you
hit the guy and stride and the deep ball. It
was like, what do we why are you doing this
right here? This is that they can't score, It's just
you can decondunct them to death and win the game.
So it's like, I don't know, That's why it's hard
to trust the Cowboys. But I thought that was a

(40:34):
pretty gritty win last night.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
I can't believe what the Bengals did when they got
that turnover and overtime and then they got super conservative
and played for a fifty three yard field goal and
granted that the holder was what screwed it up, but
I mean, you got a quarterback who's throwing five touchdown
passes and the Ravens defense is not nearly what its
reputation would tell you it is. I was not conservative, they.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Got it was. That was what was crazy. I guess
I didn't see it, but someone linked me in like
a social media post. Who I think Zach Taylor said
one of them was called a pass and Joe checked
into the run, which again over the course of three plays.
If it happens once, no big deal. But you're in
three charts three times, so you can't tell me. There
can be a call into his headset like we're passing,

(41:19):
only that'd be like Stephan Clay in their heyday, you know,
is eleven or thirteen and you need a game winning
shot and you like, go into the post. But what
do you guys doing here? I mean you have when
he's playing like that, Burrows easily one of the best
players in the league. Both the wide receivers were humming.
You're at home pedals of a medal. There's no guarantee

(41:41):
I would get it. If you're at the twenty, you know,
I would say like a thirty five ish field goaling
in where you're like, okay, what are we doing here?
But they were pretty far away, Like, guys, I mean,
you got a couple of PFLs here.

Speaker 8 (41:55):
All of a.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Sudden you're looking at like a fifty eight yard field
goal and obviously the guy. I mean, how often do
you see a punter or whoever the holder is, legitimately
just drop the ball right as he's about to place it.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
I don't think I've seen like twice a year it
happens and that one happened in a game whinning feel
going overtime?

Speaker 3 (42:13):
Yeah, drop, it was a drop, but then he was
able to get it up enough. But clearly because at
first you're like, god, he really missed it that bad,
and then it was I think it's pretty understandable when
you watch the exchange, Right, was it.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
The Cardinals or the Niners? Cardinals come from behind and
get a big win. How much was what's the bigger store,
what's the bigger angle to it?

Speaker 3 (42:35):
Well, the Niners were up thirty points in the second half,
and I get the kicker tries to make a tackle,
rolls angle, so you don't have a kicker. There are
no excuses. Now, Kyler plays well against them. You know,
you can watch him on certain weeks where you're just
like Kyler any good. If you watch him against the Niners.
Over the course of his career, he has and he makes,

(42:56):
i mean, just incredible plays. Yesterday obviously sets the tone
early with the run. It's like, okay, they got down
steven nothing and then all of a sudden they're up
multiple scores, so bad in the red zone right now,
I think they were one of six. He does they
block the field goal for a touchdown. If I told
you to start the game, it's like they're going to
block the field goal for TV.

Speaker 8 (43:18):
Nick Bosa on.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
A separate play is going to get an interception, and
the Niners are up double digits in the in the
fourth quarter, He's like, what's the score forty to twelve?
I mean, but they fumble party throws? Whatst I like
rock and I am a supporter of him. You know,
you and I have talked about this over like I

(43:40):
probably am farther on, Like, he's a really good player.
But one thing he's kind of getting into the mold
of doing, and he did it a couple of times
yesterday is like and it works a lot for him,
but instead of just like one, two, three, let it
rip to George or Debo or whatever, he's like doing
these three sixties and run around and a couple and
sometimes he makes incredible place.

Speaker 8 (44:00):
But yet today a couple.

Speaker 3 (44:01):
Of times he like took a back, like.

Speaker 8 (44:03):
I can't imagine.

Speaker 3 (44:04):
Even Tom Brady is kind of coming into his own.
Tom was like, yeah, I mean he can't hold the
ball eleven. I mean, this is not this is not
what are we doing here? And the final interception he's
patting the ball and George Kittle's opened, you know, fifteen
feet away.

Speaker 8 (44:23):
Well, what are the best quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
Let's use a guy calling the game. He throws it
right to George once he sees the guy's cover. But
Brock is a little bit of a gun player. Then
all of a sudden, their offensive line beside Trent Williams
not great. He gets hit, ball goes up in the
air and game's over. And I think some of it
is he's getting Cocky's probably the wrong way to put it,
but he's getting pretty confident that he can scramble around.

Speaker 8 (44:45):
I think it throws off.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
I mean, the whole offense is predicated on timing with Kyle,
so there's a little out of whack, even though he's
playing pretty well. But like that's the reason we're Last year,
they would have won that game. You know, now McCaffrey losing.
But their running backs are good. I mean, he wasn't
the leading less for coming in and he just walked them.
I mean, he's he's just a good running back in

(45:07):
the NFL. He's a legitimate start. So that's that's all,
not that may issue.

Speaker 1 (45:12):
So I said, there's two things. A couple of things
that Aaron Rodgers. First thing is I old, yeah, yeah,
and he's coming off an injury, and remember of the
things that made Aaron Rodgers one of the greatest throwers
to the football ever, his movement was part of it, right.

Speaker 3 (45:31):
Big part.

Speaker 1 (45:32):
But I also think that and this is it'll sound
like a negative, and I'm not saying he doesn't care,
but football is not the only thing in his life.
And the amount of reps it takes when you're you're
a completely different athlete coming off an injury like that,
and you know, like, look, if you miss OTAs or

(45:52):
you missed some camp because you have a pre planned
trip to Egypt, you're probably not throwing a football in
that pre plan trip to Egypt, right, You're definitely not
throwing to your teammates. And my point is not just
about the connection with the teammates, but about you're different
now when you're in your forties. Your arm strength is
different when you're playing up on a surgery guard paired
like your arm your you know, your arm talent is different. Like,

(46:16):
I think there's more more than just one factor. But
here's the question, is he washed?

Speaker 3 (46:23):
Well, I definitely think he's a shell of what the
version that we just saw a couple of years ago
that won an MVP. I mean that year they lost
to Tom Brady in the NFCU Championship game, it felt
like they were shoeing to win it all because of
just his comp Like he had mastered the position those
couple of years of the MVP and he was still
moving around his arm strength obviously him and DeVante had

(46:45):
like Gronkowski, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison. It was
just an elite combo. And I think you bring up
a good point. Let's face it, when you just have
more physical gifts, you can get away with some stuff
that other guys can't get as too close as peers,
you know, during his peeks up his powers would be
Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, they never, at one point

(47:09):
time in their professional lives could get away without like, yeah,
we need about fifteen extra reps of thronmies or I
need to double the time on like footwork fundamentals. Well,
Aaron's footwork has always been kind of hit or miss
because it didn't really who cares, but he got away
with it. He's like that's of all the great quarterbacks

(47:29):
besides farb most guys where I would say, relatively fundamentally Sam,
And now you watch him, he still likes to fling
it off his back foot. Don't blame him. That's just
what he knows. He's not changing at this point in time. Right.
The dogs not going to start listening to you at
ten years old if it didn't listen to you when
it was, you know, early on in his life. So
it's kind of is what it is.

Speaker 8 (47:51):
And even if you remove like the.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
Individual plays, if you just went right now as a player,
and if you just went around the NFL, like I
still thought, he'd probably be like I don't know, somewhere
between like seven and ten. Like I just don't think
he's a top ten quarterback in the NFL. Now, he
could still on an individual throat look sweet. Like the
totality of a game.

Speaker 8 (48:15):
Like you saw yesterday.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
It's like, hey Minnesota, Sam, he's a little lost today.

Speaker 8 (48:19):
This is a game.

Speaker 3 (48:20):
And Aaron I'm not even talking about like in the
peak of his powers and with McCarthy in the two
thousand pounds, I'm talking like three years ago, would have
been like I got his voice, Let's let's make some
stuff happen. And that Aaron Rodgers, thirty seven year old
guy pre achilli would have won that game and he
just can't now. Now. Part of it is, you know,
Lafleur and McCarthy are just way better than that act Saula.

(48:42):
I mean just it just feels a little weird. But
their defense is playing well. Yesterday I just looked and
he looks. I mean he's getting peppered, he's he's grimacing,
and there's that one place where he got snapped back.
I mean at first you're like, oh, oh my god,
he just tears me. Is this how his career is
going to end? But it does feel like, if you're
a betting man right now, his career is more likely

(49:03):
to end on something. Just like remember when Aaron got
carted off the second year in a row and it
just kind of ended. Then it feels like, oh, remember
when he kind of led them back to ten wins
and they ended up not winning a playoff game, but
he got into the wild Guard and they had that
fun game in the second week of January, Like that
feels a little less likely when you watch him the
last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (49:22):
What happened to Josh Allen Yesterday?

Speaker 3 (49:25):
Well, he was bad. I mean, he just I think
that's one of the worst games he's played since he
like after his rookie year. You know, I had the
volume on the Ravens game, but I was kept looking
over and I saw the replay of when he got
you know, slammed to the ground. Because I saw him
get slammed the ground, I thought he just went to
the blue ten, you know, maybe shoulder or something. I mean,

(49:46):
it kind of looks like he's ko. I mean, it
looks like he was out and obviously they put him
back in and then Sean mcdermot's calling those throws you know,
pinned up, which is just insane. Right, He just your quarterback.
Even if you didn't quite realize because not like everyone
sees everything, you didn't quite realize that he's got some issues.

Speaker 8 (50:07):
And got slammed in the grounds.

Speaker 3 (50:08):
He had legitimately been having an awful game, and you'd
have to.

Speaker 8 (50:11):
Go like sixty plus yards.

Speaker 3 (50:13):
You're not exactly the most explosive offense in terms of
speed right now in like twenty seconds, so not running
it three times. But Mia Coward talked about this. You
can crush you on all you want, and it's a
very easy thing to be critical of. There is no
guarantee to me if they go to overtime, I'd still
would have Yeah, Bill's probably lose this game because Sege

(50:35):
tried to hand them the game. He threw a bad pick,
he had a fumble that's in the fourth quarter. You know,
Nico Collins, who looks like Mike Evans meets Cherry r
Ice right now, gets injured. That threw their offense off.

Speaker 8 (50:47):
They lost some dvs.

Speaker 3 (50:48):
Jimmy Ward got hurt during the game, and it's like
the Bills, what's going on here? But then you look
at the stats sheet and it kind of masses the eyes,
Like God, Josh wasn't completing many passes. Now, they did
have a couple of weird drops, but they just that
team we saw the first three weeks. They got mojo
and got it Cognith and all starts with Josh. When
he's on, they're good, but gonn when he's off, they

(51:10):
feel like a basketball team that has one guy and
if he has a bad shooting night, they could get
smoke against anybody.

Speaker 1 (51:18):
I know. They didn't win, okay, but he took the
Browns to the playoffs last year and they go from
a team that can't move the ball at all, and
granted's Jacksonville, Jacksonville, it's not great. But what's your feelings
watching Flaco play quarterback?

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Well, I think he's the best quarterback on two teams.
He's obviously still the Browns quarterback, which they weren't allowed
to even offer a contract because they didn't want to
make the Shawn mad which think about how that sounds.
You know, six months later, he's clearly the best quarterback
on Andy. I mean that was the game that you
know Indy early on. I think with Anthony Richardson, more
than likely they get blown out in that game. I mean,

(51:55):
Flacco has looked he didn't look like that in the
last couple of years, like posts the Raven, remember that
last Raven.

Speaker 8 (52:01):
Season that started falling apart. Then he started bouncing around.
Maybe it was just a little of.

Speaker 3 (52:06):
He got to take a deep breath and he just
gets to play free.

Speaker 1 (52:09):
I mean, he's always the art of not giving a bleep.

Speaker 8 (52:13):
Yeah, and just like he didn't give a bleep that much.

Speaker 3 (52:17):
But maybe as you kind of look the end of
your career in the eye, and he started pressing a
little bit, and he looks I mean he's again we
have a two game sample size, but we have last
year too. He's been I don't know what, top ten
twelve quarterback in the NFL.

Speaker 8 (52:33):
Over the last whatever eight.

Speaker 3 (52:35):
Weeks of the season with Cleveland and now these couple
of games. Like, he's just a good player. He's not
really debatable.

Speaker 8 (52:40):
He's just good.

Speaker 3 (52:41):
It's great. I mean, he never really was, but he
kind of just looks like the way he looked when
he was good for the raven doesn't.

Speaker 1 (52:47):
He he does? Who do you like tonight? Saints Chiefs?
Chiefs still in need of some wide receiving help.

Speaker 3 (52:53):
Yeah, tonight it feels like a game I could see
the Saints winning. I just think the Chiefs, you've just
played now for these games, you're just bound to lose one.
It's very hard for them to score. I think the
Saints defense is pretty good. The wild card always is
you know, how's Derek gonna play?

Speaker 8 (53:10):
Right?

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Because sometimes in big games, but he does have a
lot of comfort like playing for the Raiders forever, He's
probably played the Chiefs, what seven eight times minimum in
Kansas City. He's played some Monday night football games against
them with the Raiders, so It's not like an uncommon
It's not like he looks at the Chiefs like the
ninety six Bulls, even though they beat him a lot.
I'm just saying like from a comfort level playing in

(53:32):
the stadium, and I do think they've played pretty good.
I mean, they easily could be. I guess the Eagles
had a pretty good game planning against them, but they
probably should have won that Falcon game.

Speaker 8 (53:42):
And Pais stan.
