(00:24):
Doug Gottlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. So the NFL season
is getting ready to kick off tonight, and I guess
here's my question to you. We would all expect to
see some form of protests, which is interesting there. It's
it's interesting to me. Um, here's what I want to do.
(00:47):
Buyer nine and eleven. Where were you? I was working,
uh in a small town in Wisconsin doing uh, you know,
radio and TV stuff. What town? The town was called
Baraboo Circus Town. Yeah, it's about five minutes outside of Madison.
Where were you specifically? That morning? I was actually getting
(01:09):
ready for work. Uh. My roommate usually left work at
like eight o'clock, you know, around that time, and I
didn't have to go in until later. So I got
into the shower and then uh, you know, I was
getting out of the bathroom and that he was home
and I'm like, what's going on? And then he told
me and so then I raced into work. So and
(01:29):
what was it like? Um? It was? It was And
this is small town, I mean Barab who was you know,
ten thousand people and it was It was one of
the most exhausting work days just because of the emotions,
because of the unknown. And when you go back to
that time as well, I remember I went out to
the to the local airport and interviewed uhum, you know,
(01:53):
the people there that were in charge because of everything
that was shutting down. Had to interview the county Emergency
Response Team uh in their people. And then and then
the thing that I always will say about it, because
it was it was so emotionally, it was so draining
of of just everything that was going on, and you
just had this awful feeling. Then, Doug, when I drove
home that night at about nine thirty, I drove past
(02:15):
the gas station and there were just lines of cars
that were and so then I had to go back
to the station go get the video camera and then
I had to put together a story about about that.
So it was just um running on fumes that didn't
have a chance to be like be emotionally involved because
there was so much going on that day with all
the things we had to cover locally. Um, and we
are going to do some of this tomorrow, just see,
(02:36):
you know, for for people who are listening, I have
a logic logic to it that I want to share.
By the way, Baraboo, Wisconsins. I'm looking up, Um, it's
what looks like thirty minutes north of Medicine, maybe thirty
five northwest. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and in in September, probably
beautiful time of year. Right. And then if you remember
(02:57):
and you do, is everything shut down like that? That's
the thing about quarantine, Like, wow, we haven't seen quarantine,
Like okay, but do you remember after nine eleven everything
shut down for about a week and a half, two weeks,
and then a couple weeks later was the the the
college football season, uh kicked back off of in the
NFL the next day. I know this because I'll give
(03:17):
you my story. So I played my first year after
playing college. I was supposed to play in Russia with
the team that trained in Italy, so I had been
in Italy. Then I went to Israel to get a passport,
came back to Italy. I didn't get my pass my
Israeli passports that came back. I played in Boise, Idaho
(03:38):
with the Stampede, made the team, only to get cut
the day before the first game because Randy Livingston got
cut in the NBA, and he came down and took
my spot. When back to Oklahma City, did fill in
radio work, then played in UH, then did a couple
of TV games while doing fill in radio work. Then
played for a team in Salina, Kansas that played like
seven games in nine days, and and I end up
(04:00):
flying to Russia and playing for a team, came back
play with the Lakers in their summer league and was
getting ready to go overseas and was filling in. And
the reason I was filling in so much in radio
was twofold. Uh. There's two guys in Oklahoma City radio
still doing it. Alashback, who's in Oklahoma City is like
a radio legend, and he had, like I don't like
(04:22):
two months off every summer. And then there's Jim Trayber
is the big afternoon guy and at the time he
was the color voice for the Arizona Diamondbacks. And if
you remember back two thousand one, that's when they won
the World Series, right, So this is two thousand one,
and I had an apartment right next to the same
apartment I had my senior in college. There was the
apartment right next to it was we were married, and
(04:43):
I was above the Sushi house. And so I did.
I get up in the morning and I either go
for a run, or go train or go get shots
up whatever, go and work in Oklahoma City and then
come back at night either play in Oklahoma City somewhere,
pick up to Stave sharp, or come play with the
Oklahoma State guys. So I, uh um. I got in
(05:05):
my car and at the time I was driving, I
had a pickup truck, but I think I was driving
like my father in laws. He has like a just
a just an average, like a forward, regular old school
pickup that just has a radio, like I don't even
think it as a cassette player. I remember turning on
IM like, this is weird. This sounds like War of
(05:27):
the World's Like I thought it was some War of
the World's like is spoof, turned it off, drove an hour,
pull into Oklahoma City, and I pulled in the parking lot.
I go upstairs to the fifth floor of the radio
stations are the radio cluster is for w w LS,
and you can hear a pin drop and I walk
into the little news room and they're like, are you
(05:47):
seeing this? I was like, what are you even talking?
I thought this was fake? Like no plane flew into
the towers, like, oh yeah, I thought that was either
a fake or it was just an accident, Like no,
Then another one flew in, and then as I'm watching
seen the screen the first building came down, and obviously
we knew that this is you know who who knew
what was going to happen. And we spent the rest
(06:09):
of the day on air basically throwing to ABC News.
But you know, in the meantime, for like a minute,
you try and be a calming voice and tell you
you know, station I D and hey, please don't gouge prices,
because you point out, like all of a sudden, gas
prices went to like eight nine a gallon. No nobody,
nobody knew what was next. Uh. The next weekend, I remember,
(06:31):
with no sports, we spent out in the country at
my in law's house shooting squirrels like we were bored,
but we're also kind of scared and uh, and we
obviously as a country came out of it. The president
at the time, George Bush through a first pitch after
what was an amazing megaphone moment on top of the
rubble in in in in on Manhattan, on the island
(06:53):
of Manhattan, and um, somehow we made it back as
a country. And I bring it up because tonight we're
to have the kickoff of the NFL season, and I
do feel like on some level, on some level NFL
players protesting now, like the voices need to be heard.
But if the protest is to bring attention were if
(07:17):
you're not aware that there are there is problems, are
problems in our country with its racial problems or racial profiling,
or police brutality, or you know, if it rises to
the level of racism within a police department, what rock
have you been under? I have no problem with people protesting.
I do think by now we have and we've been
(07:37):
in this for a while, we should we need to
be in solution phase. Right, continue to have protests, but
a solution phase. Tonight, you do it. If this game
was played on September eleven, even if it's the first
game of the year, I can't protest now. Part of
this discussion is and I know you may say, Doug
(07:59):
your you're doing the opposite of what you said with
Drew Brees, where Drew Brees gotten trouble with the PC,
you know, mafia and them and other NFL players. And
he said, look, I will never agree with somebody who
doesn't respect the flag. And the truth is that I
(08:20):
thought his wording was wasn't timely, didn't read the room,
you know, his the proper way of saying it would
have been like, look, this is how and this is
essentially what he got to. When I see the flag,
this is what I think of. And I understand that
maybe when a black man sees the flag, he thinks
of the shortcomings of of his country. I think some
(08:41):
of us think of how amazing it is that we're
able to have these protests. That's how I see it.
I see this, like, how amazing is it that we
live in a country where you're actually allowed to burden
the flag, You're actually allowed to have peaceful protests, you know,
Like how amazing is it that we have so many
people of different nationalities, for ethnicities that are able to
(09:01):
be successful, you know, in our like, we live in
a pretty special place that still has come up short
in many ways but has done magnificent things and will
continue to grow and persevere and survive and should evolve
and get even better. But on September eleven, it's just different.
(09:23):
That's just different. Those same you know, whether you're if
you're protesting police brutality, you're allowed to. There have been
police officers who have acted wrongly and should be brought
to justice, no question. There have been police officers who
have made mistakes, but maybe not with the intent of
truly doing harm, or maybe if they did, it wasn't
(09:44):
because of the race of the other being. And when
you well, they're allowed their day in court. September eleven
is a national day of mourning. It's a national day
of remembrance, right for the people who died in those towers,
for the people who died on the aircraft, for the
soldiers went out and tried to fight this invisible uh enemy,
(10:06):
you know. And and we can point out the flaws
in the Iraqi War, which I mean, I was against,
but I do understand the idea of let's just go
kick some ass and figure it out. Like I like,
there's real discussions to be had. But you know I
would say the I would I would go to the
level of the Drew Brees like I won't agree with
anyone who says that in September eleven, that's absolutely when
(10:29):
you should know, because either you weren't alive then or
you don't remember. But it's it's our job as sports
hosts and Dan Buyers a very talented supports host. I
encourage you every Sunday to listen to a show. It's great.
They cover the games, they talk about it like it's
just Dan's good at what he does. Um. I love
working with these guys. But some of you know Ryan
(10:52):
Music years old, you know, and they remember you didn't understand.
We all thought that was it Like imagine a burning
tower and if you were ever in New York and
you saw those twinses, like they were synonymous with the
skyline of New York City as a burning tower, and
(11:12):
you're like, I'm gonna run up some stairs to go
save some people. Like all of the different stories of
heroics or the Flight ninety three and what those those
those human beings did. They're real heroes, real strife, and
it's it's frankly what's missing in Washington In my opinion, Well,
I'm not gonna argue politics. I'm i gonna argue who
(11:34):
you're gonna vote for. I didn't vote for George Bush.
He was a leader during that time. You find a
whole to find it. We'll find a way to galvanize us.
Because we were all scared, at least I was, and
I was in a phase of my life as a
newly married I had money in my pocket from playing
winning Russian championship like World of My Oyster. That's usually
(11:56):
you're like a twenty four year old dude, you should
be your fear as usually. I was full of fear
because you didn't know, you know, I remember getting on
an airplane. So two weeks later I got to fill
in on the ESPN radio for a guy named Todd Wright,
who was kind of to have me on when I
was in college kind of began. He and Jim Rome
helped me begin my my national radio career, and I
(12:19):
flew from Oklahoma City to Cincinnati, Atlanta. Since the three
people in the airport there were travelers, the rest were
all National guardsmen with with dogs. I got an airplane
was the only one on both of my airplanes. Also
the weekend that Tom Brady got to play because Drew
bledsoe didn't get out of bounds and times. But I
(12:39):
just remember being on the plane going like, is this
the plane that gets hijacked? Is it another plane? You know?
So look, I respect anybody's right to protest in our
country peacefully, right, peacefully. I mean, that's how we started, right,
we dumped a bunch of tea in the Boston Harbor,
(13:00):
taxation without representation. We are a country of rebels. We
have we have tried to push for change and evolution
of the system. And you do not, by any means
by standing on September eleven, that of sporting him in
a football game or whatever mean you agree with every
part or even most of what our country you know,
(13:22):
what our country is going through or whatever. Like, it
doesn't mean that you agree with the president or the
protest whatever on that particular day. It is inarguable that
that flag too. Most of us now and all of
us should remember that faithful day. And don't give me
(13:43):
this crap about well, look at the number of people
who died compared to the number of people It's it's
not about ratio of deaths. Right, it's about what we
were attacked on our own soil. We were made to
be afraid, we had to be galvanized as a country.
(14:06):
We had to figure out it really is all of us.
Like they didn't care if your white or black or
Asian or whatever. They didn't care. They just didn't like Americans.
That's what tomorrow represented. So tonight when you protest, okay,
if this game was played Tomorrow night, or if this
game was played Saturday, if Saturday College Football or Sunday
(14:28):
NFL on September level is not the day it is.
It is, And I am not being disrespectful to your
logic or your You have the right to protest. I
have the right to tell you it is not the
time replaced tomorrow night. And I believe my stance is inarguable. Inarguable.
Eight seven seven nine nine. Foxes is the phone number
(14:50):
the NFL kicks off tonight. I I think we're underrating
one of the two teams tonight. I really do be
sure to catch the live edition of The Doug gott
Leap Show weekdays at three m Easter noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. And
I think It's interesting because I may be crazy, I
think that I think the Houston Texas is very damn good.
(15:13):
I mean, look, the play that they made in the
off season, the personnel that they've brought in there is
a very high risk factor for injury. That's it's inarguable,
inarguable that did just it's a risky proposition what they're
throwing out there in terms of injury. And their first
three games are a beast to Kansas City Ravens at
(15:35):
home to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tom if you heard this
for but Brandon Cooks is questionable tonight, right, But they
do have David Johnston, David Johnson and Duke Johnson no relation.
And David Johnson is a guy when he was right,
when he was healthy. Again, you have to go back
(15:57):
a couple of years ago, three years ago, in fact,
he was one of the most dominant players in the league.
Eighty catches, hundred, twenty targets, thirty nine yards rushing the football.
You go to two thousand nineteen, he had almost in sixteen,
he had almost with a terrible team, a terrible offensive line,
(16:19):
almost had a thousand yards rushing, did have fifty receptions
and that was, you know, Josh Rosen just the worst
team in football last year again banged up, only only
thirteen games, did have thirty six catches. How old do
you think? How old you day? David Johnson is twenty
years old. He's not over the hill, he's at that
top of the hill. But one of those guys that
(16:42):
when healthy, when right, is a hell of a football player.
And then he's supported by Duke Johnson was a really good,
just good solid running back Will Fuller went healthy. You
heard Brandon Weeden say earlier today. Best route runner on
that team, Brandon Cooks and Randall Cobb, Darren Fells. Plus
their offensive line is sl Here's Daniel Jeremiah on the
Texans offensive line that forever was just awful and now
(17:06):
it's you know, I think a lot of people are saying,
you know, this is this is the best offensive line
that the Shawn's played behind this coming season, and I
think almost to me, it almost undersells it. That's like
you're saying, that's the best of the worst. I think
this offensive line, if they stay healthy talent wise, is
one of the you know, seven to ten best offensive
lines in football, which is gonna be fun to watch.
I'm actually excited about the use some Texans. I think
(17:29):
they're gonna better and people think. I don't know, it's
if it's what people think or what people say on
radio shows and on you know, and when they're and
when they're they're gambling or whatever. I don't know, because
I do think that people think they're pretty good. I
just think they're They think they're good, and Deshaun Watson
is awesome, but they're not great. But if you think
there are anything less than really good, yeah, I don't
(17:51):
think you're I don't think you're you're being honest or
you're just holding the collapse against the um the collapse
against the Chiefs last year still against them this year.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three p m. Easter noon Pacific
(18:12):
Doug Gotlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Todd ferban joins us.
His TV show is called Fox Bet Live. It's Doug
gotlib Show here on Fox Sports Radio. UM, it's so
good that they got Clay Travis on there. Who Uh
Clay's first pick college pick of the year was he
was all over the Naval Academy. Who got beat What
was it todd fifty to three at the by U.
(18:35):
It was definitely ugly. I can't pick on Clay too
much for that dog, because I had maybe in the
first half and you and I might have gone out
there and done a better job defending by US rushing attack.
But I'm not quite sure what Clay is gonna do.
He all he's basically done is Harley MB favorites up
to this point. I'm gonna get a lot more competitive
when we get into the Eastern and Western Conference final. Yes, yes, yes,
yes it will. Um, all right, let's start with kind
(18:56):
of overall futures. We talked to NFL m v P
earlier in the show. I know Lamar Jackson is the favorite,
but I can't I can't remember the last time an
NFL m v P repeated, UM if you were looking
at that at that future's line, who do you like
to win NFL m v P. So for me, I
think a good place to start is out in the
(19:17):
Pacific Northwest, and it's not really going way off the
beaten path. But all off season we've heard about Russell Wilson,
know what he's accomplished, and the fact that he's never
gained one m v P vote during his illustrious career.
Seven of one, of course, isn't going to bankrupt the
books by any stretch of the imagination. But if I
was looking at that trio of quarterbacks, he'd be a
guy that I would keep my eye on there. If
(19:37):
you want to go a little bit further down the list, though,
I know some people have talked at great lengths about
Matt Ryan with this Falcons offense and the emergence of
Calvin Ridley as a bonafied one a opposite Julio Jones,
I'm not quite sure I want to sign off there,
but I would look at father Time in the form
of Philip Rivers playing behind a fortress like offensive line
in Indianapolis, a level of familiarity with Nick Serriani and
(19:58):
Frank Reich from his time as a member of the Chargers,
and I think that would be a flyer that I
would take for a team that I really believe can
win eleven and twelve games and ultimately become division champions.
That was one of my picks. That's one of my picks.
My first pick was Aeron Rodgers. Um I also had
Christian McCaffrey. How difficult do you think will be for
running back to win m VP? I think it's extremely
(20:21):
difficult because if McCaffrey wasn't seriously considered last year, you
have to wonder what he's gonna have to do this
season to try and get over the hump. You figure
that he's got to put together at least two thousand
yards of all purpose offense. He's got to get close
to his touchdown output of a season ago. And it
just feels like in this day and age that it's
so difficult for any skilled position player to even be
(20:42):
considered above a quarterback. Now at fifty to one, it's
not like you're taking a shot with one of the
co favorites up there. So if you're gonna put a
few bucks down and you think that ultimately this Caroline
offense with Teddy Bridgewater under the leadership with Joe Brady
will give Christian adequate touches, then it makes sense. But
I'm just so reluctant to take any position player outside
of the quarterback. Why why not? The love for Pat
(21:03):
mahomes Well, I think it's more about price, honestly, Doug.
When you look at Fox Bet, he's priced a less
than four to one. This is a guy who doesn't
compete against the rest of the NFL. He competes against
himself every single season. And we saw his touchdown numbers
regressed last year a little bit. Of course, he missed
two games. We know that he has a ton of
weapons around him, and I think that's why Clyde Edward
(21:25):
Hilaire is the front runner to be Rookie of the
Year from an offensive standpoint. But I just wonder if
Mahomes goes out there and he were to throw for
let's call it, five thousand yards and forty touchdowns, if
he'll get compared to a season way back in two
thousand eighteen, and ultimately to go, hey, look, this is
about narrative, it's about spin. We want to go in
a different direction. Just hard to back an MVP candidate
(21:45):
at price less than four to onep uh Todd Ferman
joining us some Fox bet Live. It's Doug otlip Show
here on Fox Sports Radio. UM, help me out with
the Cancie chiefs tonight. What are the what are the numbers? Tonight?
As the Texans go in at and they led twenty
four nothing and then got curb stomped by really boat race.
More thing, what are the numbers in Tonight's and jim
(22:06):
the line and over under? Yeah, number has held pretty
steady all off season from when these prices were first
put on the board. You look at Kansas City at
nine nine and a half point favorite total in this
game has come down and touch for a peak of
fifty five and a half to fifty three. Looks like
there could be a little bit of weather in the forecast,
about a thirty percent chance of rain at Arrowhead. And
(22:26):
when you dive into this game, I think the real
question you have to ask, can the Texans figure out
what they did wrong over three quarters and replicate how
they started that playoff game. I'm not a believer in
the Texans this year at all. I don't think Deshaun
Watton can possibly get better when you lose your most
reliable third down weapon in DeAndre Hopkins, when it's third
and six and third and seven, is he gonna have
(22:47):
that same report with Randall Cobb, with Kenny Stills and
with Brandon Cooks out there. I look at the Texans
defensively in this secondary with an absolute disaster last season,
finishing towards the bottom of the barrel, with the twenty
nine ring pass defense, they allowed three plus passing yards
in six games. Only the Arizona Cardinals did that more frequently.
I really believe that Kansas City and raising their banner,
(23:08):
there will be no letdown tonight. And you know me
long enough that I don't advocate for laying more than
a touchdown often. Uh. Get the way defending Super Bowl
champions have performed in Week one, five and one straight up,
four one and one against the spread the last six times,
with an average margin of victory of north and swell points.
That's the voice of Todd Ferman Fox Uh Fox bet
(23:28):
Live is the TV show A boy Clay Travis among
others on that show. What do you think about the Texans?
I think this is a team trying to figure out
its identity. I love the fact that they committed to
Deshaun Watson with that mega millions type deal, but you
look at some of the weaponry around him. Sure you
have a little bit more depth and receiver now, but
you have no true number one. I think they're running
(23:50):
game is going to be a little bit of a
disaster as well, when you consider that Cliff Kingsbury avoided
running David Johnson at all. Last year, they get Kenyan
Drake and suddenly the Cardinals become one of the more
dynamic rushing attacks in the league. And I look at
this team defensively b lindbacker position that's been devalued. But
the Houston Texans have gone against analytics. They have two
guys on their roster and Zack Cunningham and Bernardrick McKinney
(24:12):
that they've committed to. They can't cover running backs out
of the backfield. They're not good in their back seven.
And I think if you're talking about a team boys
to go from making the playoffs to struggling to win
seven games, the Houston Texans ultimately become the poster child
for that. So you're down in the text, I was
just singing their praises. I think offensive line is pretty good.
Obviously the defense wasn't great. They do have Deshaun Watson,
and I'm with you, I'm not having a number one,
(24:34):
but that could be a That could be a good thing,
couldn't it for you know, so you don't stare down
one guy. Yeah, I think it helps a little bit,
But the real question, and you know, the guys that
they were lying on as game breakers. Whether it's Will
Fuller or Brandon Cook, either one of them is showing
a ton of durability. And I think if you take
one of those guys out of the mix, Randall Cobb
is a nice slot receiver as a third or fourth weapon.
(24:54):
And I just don't have a ton of confidence in
Kenny still stepping uprising to the occasion, because we've Will
Fuller put up gaudy numbers opposite DeAndre Hockey. But when
you have a couple of guys that are burners, are
not truly elite route runners, it's gonna put a lot
more pressure on Watton they had to deal with over
his first couple of seasons. I'm currently conducting a fantasy
draft with my son. We got thirty seconds. Let me
tell you who's available. Michael Thomas, Clyde, Clyde Edwards, Hilaire
(25:17):
um Kenyan, Drake, Nick Chubble. Let me see here, how
because let me see if there's any good quarterbacks available
real quickly. Oh, Lamar Jacksons available. I'm gonna go Lamar
Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes, who would you go? You know what, Honestly,
you're you're early in the draft that you can't go
quarterback now, you gotta wait for Dak to be available
in the fourth round. I think you gotta go Michael
Thomas or Clyde Edwards. Hilaire here m hm, I go
(25:40):
oh uh okay, I took Glamar Jackson. That's what I wanted.
That's what I want to do. I'm trying. You're trying
to do both at once is really really hard. So uh,
that's that's that's what well that would do. I think
I may have taken Who did it take for me?
This is so hard? Okay? Anyway, um okay, So if
(26:00):
you if you look historic, the historic data is one
of the things that you guys in Vegas follow the most. Okay,
Kansas City should have gotten to the super Bowl two
years ago. Do get the super Bowl and win. But
we've also seen the team that loses in the Super Bowl,
with the exception of the Patriots, really struggle the next year.
What does Vegas think about the Niners? Well, a friend,
as far as odds to win the Super Bowl, you're
(26:22):
talking about the Niners. His third favorites, behind only the
Chiefs and Ravens. It's a number that I would stay
away from, like the plague. Given the fact that this
was a team that had struggles moving the football consistently
before they got Emmanuel Sanders in the Fiddle of the Year,
They're going to face a schedule of opposing run defenses
that's a lot stouter than what they did last year.
And when you look at the receiving corps early on Deebo,
(26:43):
Samuel and Brandon I you already banged up. You know.
Jimmy Garoppolo, I think he can erase some of the
doubt given the way he played over the last nine
minutes in the Super Bowl, and be a better, more
dynamic downfield thrower. But I think the defense takes a
step back. And when I look top to bottom, I
don't think there's a division more competitive in the NFL
than the NFC West. I'd be more likely dugged about
the forty nine to miss the playoffs than I would
(27:05):
be to bet them to win the NFC MM to
miss the playoffs. Okay, so if they missed the playoffs,
are you bigger on? A lot of people are big
on Arizona? What about the Rams? You know, like the
Rams yesterday signed the biggest contract we've ever seen to
a cornerback but you know so many people pointing out, like, look,
the quarterback is what holds them back. They change running backs. Um,
(27:27):
where where are you in the NFC West? In regards
to Arizona and the Rams, I think the Rams can
be better than what a lot of people think. They
actually overachieved as far as better as we're concerned. Last year.
I know they finished with a winning record, missed the playoffs,
but they were ten five and one against the number
with Sean McVeigh. The biggest concern I have for the
Rams isn't what they're going to do on an offensive side,
although they would need a bona fide number one running
(27:49):
back to emerge. It's more some of the losses defensively,
and we can start with Wade phillips Um basically leaving
and you bring in a unproven defensive coordinator Brandon's Daily
to kind of take over. In that regard, you lose
a couple of guys in Nickel Roby Coleman, who is
one of the more underrated slot corners, Corty Littleton one
of the best linebackers and coverage, while Jalen Ramby is
(28:09):
the lead as a position and illustrated by the contract
the Rams field that same way. I just have more
question about the defensive side of the ball in a
division that's got some high powered offenses that can put
up crooked numbers. I think the Rams nine and seven
is probably the ceiling for this team, and I actually
have them pegged a second in the division behind the
Seattle Tea. Alright, last thing, I know, you gotta run
Todd from in Fox Pet Fox Pet Live. Uh. One
(28:33):
pick against the line that you love. Week one in
the NFL, Washington Redskins, I'm gonna take our sorry, the
Washington football team. I'm gonna take them plus the six
against Philadelphia. Philadelphia's offensive line extremely banged up. You're moving
Jason Peters from right tackle the left tackle. Skill position
players were not sure we're gonna see from Miles Sanders,
No Al Sean, Jeffrey New, Jalen Reagor. Defensively, I wouldn't
(28:55):
be shocked if Javon Hargrave their big offseason edition didn't play.
And I really believe Washington could be point spread Darling
behind the strength of their front seven. So give me
Washington plus the six to put a scare into Philadelphia.
All Right. I actually like the Dolphins their plus six
and a half in New England. Patriots decimated by departures
for COVID, whole new quarterback, no home field advantage, right,
(29:15):
and the Dolphins team that beat them at the end
of last year, and you still have Ryan Fitzpatrick at
quarterback and they've improved their overall talent. That'd be my pick, Todd,
Great stuff, Love love Fox bet Live. Thanks so much
for joining us. Always a pleasure catching up dog. Enjoy
the games this weekend. The pleasure is all mine. How
close was Tom Brady to become a quarterback of the Bears.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports

search f s R to listen live. So, uh, there's
a little update on our live fantasy draft that's taken
place between my my son and his friends that I'm
actually helping him conduct while conducting a national radio show.
I mean that is juggling, right, I mean, all Ramos
is doing is making sure that all those buttons are
(29:58):
pressed on time buyer's multitasking because he's got local updates,
he's got all this other stuff to do. He's get
his own show to prepare for you. Just he's got
game time, he's got the press, he's got lots of things.
I'm hosting a show and um also trying to win
a fantasy football draft. So I went outside the box
a little bit. I actually was gonna take Michael Thomas,
but I think I screwed up what I pressed or whatever. Anyway,
(30:21):
I took Lamar Jackson one look, Lamar Jackson and Davante
Adams with my second pick. So buyer, let me let
me get your So now you think running back? Right?
So we got Nick Chubb, Austin Necklar, who I love,
Joe Mixon, um, DeAndre Hopkins is still available, but they've
got so many. Travis Kelsey PPR League. Yes, like I
(30:44):
like Uhler and Mixing. Of those that you were mentioning,
I agree with Mixing, and I agree with Eckler. God,
I'm just I'm so hesit. I don't know why I'm
hesitant on Eckler, probably because he's a Charger, but I
think the way in which they're gonna play Tyrod Taylor
is gonna run a bunch two all. Actually, I would
pick Mixing above Eckler of those two. Joe Mixon's last
a month of last year was actually really good. And
(31:06):
then now you consider some of the upgrades that they've
had on the offensive line. Not a great line, but
it's better than it was last year. And you would
think that Joe Burrow probably would utilize him more um
out of the backfield this one. What do you think
about Nick Chubb? I am concerned about Nick Chubb because
of Kareem Hunt. That is the reason why. Plus Nick
isn't a isn't the great goal lineback that you would
(31:29):
you would consider, even though you make it vultured a
little bit. Yeah, he's just he's not as effective as
maybe other guys in those short yard situations, in those
golden goal situations. So their goal to go. So I'm
wearing and Kareem Hunt just signed to your extension with
the Browns, and and if and if I took one
of the two backs that reminded me of Dalvin Cook
in Minnesota, which was what Kevin Stefanski ran last year,
(31:51):
Kareem Hunt would remind me more of Dalvin Cook than
Nick Chuck. Okay, so but I said, so do you say,
you know, forget it and go George Kittle no there
to me. There are too many other good tight ends,
guy like Darren Waller, Evan Ingram, you can get later
on in the in the draft if you wanted a
really good tight end. All right, So you're saying mix
In ahead of Eckler, Yes, out of all the guys
(32:13):
that you mentioned, I would have take I would take Mixing.
All right, He's in my queue. He will be the
players selected. We are one pick away. Let's get to
what the fox No, Doug Golly. I don't know about you,
but I'm ready to leave the house. We discover the road,

(32:36):
Dan Patrick talking about Tom Brady and where he almost
signed a free agency Did you know that the Bears
were in the final final list of teams for Tom Brady,
The Chargers, the Bears, and the Buccaneers. I just told
this yesterday. The Chargers were the long shot because it
was West coast. He didn't want to be on the
West Coast. But the fact that he was considering the
(32:57):
bears Chicago at least because he wanted to be able
to be in proximity to New York, where his son is.
So he's got a son with with Bridget Monaghan and
they live in New York and he wanted to be
able to be close enough to him. Yeah, I don't
that is not what I had heard. I think there
(33:17):
were you know, there was there was a list out there,
there was conversations out I can tell you that the
Chargers legitimately thought they were getting him, but it was
it was too far. The the idea of being close
to New York City was a big thing. I don't
think there was a way in which Gisel was living
in Chicago. She wanted to live and she wanted Miami,
(33:38):
and they settled on Tampa. So I'm not denying uh uh,
I'm not denying the sources of Dan Patrick. I'm saying
that whatever cities were proposed, whatever teams were on the list,
the idea was in Chicago. And by the way, Chicago,
that style of offense, you wouldn't talk about a departure, right,
(33:59):
That is an andy reach al of offense. They need
a guy who can move. He's a guy who's on
a spot like I just I don't see it. I
don't see it. That was location wise, you know, proximity
to New York and having a good defense. That makes sense,
and he's played really well in cold weather before. But
I what I was told was he led the Chargers
(34:20):
to believe that he was really, really into it, and
Gisele wasn't into it. Uh just you know, Giselle liked
l A, but it was the idea. He couldn't he
couldn't get back to see his kid enough, and so
instead they settled on Tampa, which you know is further
than Chicago, but warm, and Giselle wanted warm. So there
(34:41):
you go. That's how that's how you settle on. Think
that's what the Fox said. All right, looks like we're
gonna take Joe Mixon here. You everybody sign off on it? Ramos,
do you sign off on Joe Mixon? I got to
mix ins available Eckler, uh D J Moore, Adam feeling.
I'm gonna I'm gonna pass off to Dan on that.
I took Eckler to my draft, But of course Dan's
(35:01):
much more into it than I am. It's not that
Eckler is bad. I just would I just like mixing,
like I really liked your mixing this season. Plus you
can hear more of this insight with me in my
Carmen on the new Official Fantasy Football podcast on Fox
Sports Radio. I Want Your Flex, a new episode coming
out hot and fresh to ask you, That's why I
(35:22):
asked you. That's why I asked you. So uh me plugging.
I want you, I want you, I want your fix. Perfect,
there you go. I want your fix. What's crazy about
those George Michael songs is that George Michael was playing
(35:42):
for a different team. Right. It was one of those
one of those things where he's saying those songs that
were like man, this is who sure he was drawing it,
you know, on a on a woman's body with lipstick, right,
I mean it is. Remember the group he was in
previously was called Wham. I don't know it was Wham.
He went from Wham to George Michael, but maybe we
(36:04):
should have seen it come and when he wanted freedom,
like what do you what can he want freedom? And
there was their second song, I mean, because they had
this song of different freedom with Wham and this was
the careless Whisper, Careless whisp m m m m m
m m mmm mm hmmmmmm. I think it took I
(36:27):
think it took Austin Neckler for me. I don't know
why I did that. Um, all right, whatever. If I
got Eckler, he supposed to mix, and I would have preferred,
I don't. I guess it wasn't. I put him in
the queue in order, and you know I took Heckler,
so I got a charge. I'm a charger, Homer. I
apologize to you, Dan, it was not okay Ramos. If
Ramos we end up, if we end up killing it
(36:47):
with Austin Neckler, I will credit you for talking about it.
Thank you much. Is Greg Kittle still available in that draft? Okay? Good,
great kid, Elizabeth. Would you take great Kiddle or Travis Kelsey?
I mean George Kittles Kelsey Kittles are inside joke Kelsey. Um, yeah, no,
(37:07):
Actually I'd take George Kittle. George Kittle, think it would too. Um.
He's a great player, great great player coming up next
in the Doug got Lip Show. I'll continue my fantasy
draft and be distracted. And the NFL kicks off tonight.
We need to be realistic about the Chiefs. Next in
the Doug got Lip Show,
