Speaker 1 (00:25):
Oh, it is a Monday, Another epic Monday. Starting to
clear the pieces all in place now in the AFC,
down to the final teams of last year, Kansas City, Buffalo,
Baltimore and Houston nfcmour questions live in Los Angeles. It's
(00:46):
the Herd one hour from now. Where Colin was right,
where Colin was wrong? Plus Matt Hasselbeck, who has been
money all year. Jmac it is. You know, there's those
A handful of times in a year we'll say it
was a good law, you got something from a loss.
Over the course of the season, a young team goes
to Detroit or Philly in plays tough that felt like
(01:07):
an ugly win or a bad win for Philadelphia considering
the Packers were missing five offensive starters. Wow, okay, yeah,
that's a take. Okay, so so Philadelphia won, and I'm
not sure I feel good about it at all. How
can you have that offensive line, two excellent receivers Dallas
Goddard and Saquon Barkley be at home and be two
(01:29):
for eleven on third down and throw for one hundred
and twenty one yards. That wasn't good. Philadelphia, if they
win the Super Bowl, will do the unthinkable twice. They'll
win a Super Bowl with a coach we're not sure
of in a quarterback nobody really loves a Super Bowl
champion and a trivia answer. They leave so much on
(01:51):
the table. Saquon Goddard, AJ Brown hurts o line two
for eleven on third down. I mean, Jalen went ninety
minutes between completions. I watched that Wham documentary on Netflix
in between completions. I mean, and green Bay from the
opening kickoff was handing them the ball, handing them the game.
(02:14):
They were missing Christian Watson going into the game. They
lost two more receivers during the game. They lost two
offensive linemen. I mean, you could tell. But the second
series of the game, green Bay was rattled. And by
the way, Philadelphia is so talented, but they're gonna have
to prove they can win the Super Bowl. They have
so many great players. But when you're plus four in
turnovers at home and you lead sixteen to ten in
(02:36):
the fourth quarter, I mean, just hand the ball to
Saquad and Barkley and let them lean into the old line.
But details matter more the bigger the games and the
better competition. I mean, the Patriots won six Super Bowls
and their most talented team with Randy Moss, never hoisted
a trophy. Kansas City last two years lost Tyreek Hill.
Are you less talented? It's not about talent. Playoffs are
(02:59):
about execution. They're about discipline, they're about red zone trips,
they're about being good on third down. And it's not
a lack of talent. I mean, Philadelphia is pro bowlers
and talent everywhere. And by the way, I am all
for scholastic achievement. I am all for scholastic achievement. But
reading a book on the sidelines, Nick Sirianni can't control
(03:24):
of the team. This just felt like the kind of
win that you go home, you dress, you shower, you
go home, and you're like, man, we left a lot
on the table. It almost reminds me of when somebody
eats poorly when they're young, but they have a high metabolism,
a fast metabolism. Eventually that metabolism slows down and you
(03:47):
put on weight. You just can't eat poorly over the
course of a life. And this team the coach, I
like Jalen Hurts, But when you watch Josh Allen, or
you watch Lamar Jackson, or if you watch like a
Matt Stafford tonight, there are certain guys in this league,
Jared Goff, you watch them play quarterback, and then you're
watching Jalen Hurts, you just don't feel the same. So
I know it's a win, but I mean, this is
(04:09):
the one game I went into the weekend and said, yeah,
Philadelphia is gonna win the game. But when that thing
was sixteen to ten in the fourth quarter in Green
base miss and half their offense and Jordan Love is
reckless and just kind of out of sorts and not
playing well and driving Matt Lafleure crazy, you didn't think
to yourself, she didn't have been like twenty four to
(04:30):
seven or twenty four to three. I couldn't believe it
was that close. I'm like, how's this game close? Here's
Nick Sirianni after No victory Monday for us. You know,
we could play Saturday too, we don't know. But no
victory Monday for us. We're gonna go back to work
because we do have a lot of things to clean up. Yeah,
a lot. So I want to talk about Buffalo thirty
one seven over Denver. So it's this This league takes
(04:53):
a while. You know, when Jim Harbaugh, even in college football,
got to Michigan five wins to ten the first year,
but he took him like six years to get the
kind of roster where he could beat in Ohio State
or he could beat play with a Georgia. It takes
a while. In this league. You only get seven draft picks.
Everybody's got a salary cap. It's taken them a while
to get Josh Allen the pieces. Buffalo's got him first
(05:17):
of all. James Cook smells the end zone. Two excellent
tight ends, excellent offensive coordinator Joe Brady, three very solid
wide receivers. You almost forget Amari Cooper's on the team,
a top left tackle. I mean, they were amazing on
third down and Denver's got a good defense. They were
fantastic yards per pass over nine total yards, almost five
(05:40):
hundred dominate time of possession. Again, we all knew. Jay
McK and I talked about this Friday. It's gonna be
a tough place for bow Nicks to win. This is
gonna be a tough place to win, no question. But
it's the way they do it. This is the best version.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
And just remember this, Buffalo was not at their best.
Five red zone trips, one touchdown. This was like they
were missing their off speed stuff. This wasn't the best
version of Buffalo. And you know, you start watching Detroit
in Philadelphia's offense and we all look at that and
we all go, they don't have Superman at quarterback. This thing.
(06:20):
I mean, even as good as Kansas City's defense is
and as well coached as they are, you remember that
game in Week eleven, Buffalo Kansas City. They dropped a
thirty burger on Kansas City. And by the way, they
did something that's never been done. There's so much diversity
in their offense with Superman at quarterback, thirty two rushing touchdowns,
(06:40):
thirty passing touchdowns, the quarterback runs. I don't know what
the hole is in the offense. I don't know what
it is. I can't find it. But I mean, you know,
you notice something this weekend. I was talking to the
guys this morning as we were building the show, and
I said, you know what, did Jayden Daniels, Lamar Jackson,
Josh Allen you know kind of have in common when
(07:01):
you start watching the winning quarterbacks over the weekend, Jalen hurts,
movement really matters. Now, you can win if you're Brady
or Jared Goff and you got the greatest coach or
you got the greatest O line in run game, but
mobility matters. So you're talking about Buffalo's got three receivers.
I like two tight ends. I like a starback, top
three left tackle, excellent o C and maybe the first
(07:23):
or second best running quarterback in the league. And he's
also got maybe the best arm in the league. So
I just I mean, And by the way, both Kansas
City and Buffalo lost a star receiver and with it
a little drama and got better. I don't want to
hear about how valuable star receivers are. I'm watching this
(07:44):
league this weekend. You know it's valuable. Derek Henry, that's
Saquon Barkley, James Cook, Stefan Diggs and Tyreek Hill and
by the way, we're super noisy, not demanding. But there
was a little bit of drama in Buffalo, and like
the Chiefs, they went, you know what, We're gonna try
this without drama. They're noticeably better. I've been saying this
(08:09):
for years, for years and years, I said, the quarterback,
the rush, end, the run game, the O line is
the cake, and receivers are icing. And for a few
years I didn't believe that because the rule changes. And
then j Mack was like, you've heard of the housing bubble.
This is a wide receiver bubble. This weekend. You know
what this weekend was. Receivers are back to icing on
(08:32):
the cake. That's what I mean. Do you see what
Houston did. Didn't have Tankdale, didn't have Stefan Diggs, this
running game with Josh Allen. I mean again, you forget
Amari Cooper's on the team. He's a really good B
plus wide receiver. Here was Josh Allen after I don't
think I think there was one certain thing over another.
(08:55):
We just wanted to come out and Nextecute well.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
But at the end of the day, we just wanted
to come out and play play our best football, and
I thought we did that.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
I'll tell you what Buffalo is. They become Kansas City
without the trophies yet really solid ownership, really solid ownership,
excellent GM, better than average coach, star quarterback. This team
feels like they're going to get a trophy. And there
is breaking news right now in the NFL. Put that
(09:25):
red bar. Now we have breaking news. Mike McCarthy is
out as the Dallas Cowboys head coach. The sides could
not agree on the length of the contract and Mike McCarthy,
and I think he's smart here, will pursue other options.
(09:48):
In my opinion, the winner here is Mike McCarthy. This
is not a talented roster. The one thing that eliminates
eliminates a Super Bowl is not a rookie quarterback necessarily
or a young quarterback. You don't even have to be
great at quarterback, Nick Foles. You cannot pay a b
(10:09):
quarterback a plus money or you are out. And that's
where Dallas is. And Mike McCarthy, for all the criticism,
he won with Farv, he won with Aaron, He's won
with Dak, He's one with Cooper Rush, Chicago Bears, Mike
McCarthy all go on record right now, that's who I
(10:31):
would hire. I know you love the whiz kid in Detroit,
but Mike McCarthy is with in twelve games, with the
worst running back room in the league, and an offensive
line that may not have more than one player that
could start for the Eagles or Lions Z line. So
Mike McCarthy out in Dallas. It doesn't sound like money
(10:51):
was the issue. It was length of the contract. According
to Ian Rappaport, Bears and the Saints are interested go
to Chicago, Jay Mack. It was funny during my rant,
I looked at Jay Mack and his eyes he went.
He turned around at Ryan and went, and I thought, well,
either Joe Burrow has demanded a trade or we've got
(11:16):
big NFL news. So for me, my money is Chicago
feels like to play.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
First of all, My bad for that reaction. I was
just kind of stunned. It's like, yeahday morning, NFL.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
You get one for that?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Wow? Yeah, the years is interesting.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
My guess is McCarthy went into that meeting with Jerry
and was like, I got all the cards here, buddy,
what's the word? Well, and Jerry kind of didn't. We'll
secure up for two years or something.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
I don't know. By the way, I'm surprised we haven't
seen more of this for years and years. Owners totally
control coaches and gms, and I don't love that at all.
I love McCarthy saying there's a lot of openings. You're
not up to my standard. I got a ring in
the last ten years. You can't get to the conference championship.
(11:57):
So I think Mike McCarthy in Chicago, I do that
job is too big of a lift to give it
to a coordinator. And I think Aaron is great, Ben
Johnson's capable, Liam Cohen and Tampa. There are a lot
of talented guys, but you don't know if coordinators make it.
Mike McCarthy has won everywhere.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
I think I would agree with you. It is interesting
that Jerry wouldn't. He blocked him last week from talking
to the Bears. Remember he blocked him, and now, oh,
we don't want to We don't want to give you
what you want in your contract.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
I think you're right. I think Chicago makes a ton
of sense.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Three playoff appearances in Dallas and a winning record. And
here's the other thing about him, since Josh, since I
think it's since Mike McCarthy arrived in Dallas. I could
be wrong on this. It could be when Josh Allen
arrived in Buffalo, but I think it's when Mike McCarthy
arrived in Dallas. They have the second best offense in
the league to Josh Allen. Okay, not Kansas City, not
(12:54):
Sean mcvahan, Stafford, not Detroit. So again, we've been saying
this now for three weeks. It is very easy. There's
two things. Mike McCarthy isn't young and hip and we
all love the mcveigh's or like old in Alpha Vrabel
he's not that. For years and years when he was
in Green Bay, I said, you know, he looks like
a retired Milwaukee comp. You know, he's like he's a
(13:17):
responsible guy. There's no flash to him. He's a bottom
line goes to work every day, buses butt. But this
guy can coach. Everywhere he goes quarterbacks, he gets the best.
Go to his last year with FARV. Aaron had his
best years, and go look at Aaron in New York.
All ad.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
I got a Cowboys friend texting me, we gotta go
get Belichick. Hold on, Belichick is not leaving North Carolina
for the Cowboys job.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I don't thinkn think is the Cowboys job that good
on one.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
No, no, no time out. A better job, I know
this is hard for people to figure out. A better
job was the Patriots stable owner who stays out of
the way, and you got a franchise quarterback that you're
not paying a nickel to for the next four years.
That's why I've rabeled the best job last year was Hardball,
and the best job this year was New England non
(14:06):
medaling owner quarterback for the future. I'll tell you right now,
I think New England is a viable playoff team next year.
I'm just gonna tell you I saw what Dimico did Hardball.
These good coaches can turn around cultures and wins very quickly.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
I'm really curious where you think Dallas turns here, because,
like you said, like I don't see Ben Johnson, Oh,
I got to get to Dallas and get with this
old roster like that's such a downgrade from where the
Lions are.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
You know again, people will push back on McCarthy. Just
go to the data. They are the number two offense
in the league since he got to Dallas behind Josh Allen.
Do you watch Josh Allen this weekend. He's talented. So
you're talking about a terrible run room Cooper Rush playing games,
Dak hurt multiple times. Rebuild of the old line. You know,
(14:55):
the old line was great with Jason Garrett and McCarthy.
Got about a year and a half of that. It's
not great. It's an old expensive Zach Martin and a
bunch of good question marks.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Some of these bad teams rolled over and were getting
blitzed and buried by twenty thirty points this season.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
I didn't see Dallas get totally trapped.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
They were fighting and in most of those games quarters
they didn't have the horses to compete.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
We were talking about Dallas soft tanking in week twelve.
I was I was like, oh that this looks like
And he got them with Cooper Rush. They were competitive,
absolutely competitive. They were winning games.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I wonder could he fix Derek Carr in New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
I wouldn't even I wouldn't get Okay, all right, Packers, Cowboys,
I'm not going to the Saints, Packers, Cowboys. I'm going
to the Bears.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
This is not a party guy. He didn't need he
didn't need Bourbon Street. You know, he needs to go
to Chicago. Mike McCarthy looks like a Chicago coach.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Well out Raiders does do they make a move on him.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
I think he'd be a good coach. I think he's
a good hire. I mean, they're already paying three other guys.
Why not pay Mike. Everybody's on the payroll? Yeah, okay,
at Hasselback, Colin right wrong? Is there anything better than
breaking news? Eight minutes?
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Literally?
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I just finished my rant and Mike McCarthy and Jerry
Jones said, let's give coward a story to help him
get through the first hour.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
All Right, Breaking news, Mike McCarthy in the Dallas Cowboys
could not agree to a new contract. It was about years.
It sounds like the money wasn't the primary issue. Mike
McCarthy maybe wanted more years. Jerry wouldn't go there. That
would be my guess is that McCarthy said, if you're
if I got to stay with this team, we're not
(16:41):
close to winning. We don't match up with Detroit, Baltimore, Buffalo, Philadelphia.
Here come the Rams and the Packers. I think Mike
McCarthy said, I'll take the job. But if you think
I can turn this thing around, look at what we're
paying back. We got no run back, no running back room.
I think Mike McCarthy said, give me, give me more years,
and Jerry's like, nope, I'll give you three years. Then
(17:03):
my guess is Jerry didn't want to give him long
years because of Jerry's age, and McCarthy rightly so said
forget it. I want the years. This is not a
one year turnaround. I mean Dak was less of a
quarterback athletically after the first injury. Now he's had a second.
I don't know what I'm gonna get with Dak. We
saw Kirk Cousins like after Thanksgiving it was over. Aaron
(17:26):
Rodgers took forever to bounce back from his injury. He
got hot about week twelve. So I think McCarthy's right here.
He is now the best candidate on the market after
Mike Vrabel signed with New England, and he's like, I
got options and very rarely there's the employee of leverage
Mike does. I think Jerry's crazy to let him go.
I mean, if you want to go get Ben Johnson,
go for it. But your roster's not good enough to
(17:48):
compete forget for the super Bowl, not good enough to
compete for the top of your division. You're not nearly
as good as Philadelphia. And what I'm watching Jayden Daniels
last night. You're not beating Jayden Daniels for the next
decade if you don't get that roster better. Because Washington's
got cap space. Washington's not paying Jayden Daniels anything for
four years. So I think Mike McCarthy, I mean, he
(18:10):
reads the tea leaves here, he looks up and goes,
we're not close to Philly, and I'm not sure by
next year we're gonna be close to Washington. My quarterback's
the highest paid in the division, and right now he's
the third best in the division. Especially you don't know
what you're getting after an injury. So I went to
Mike McCarthy on this one. Right, Chicago Bears, I go
get him, and I want to talk about another place
(18:33):
that should consider him, the Pittsburgh Steelers. So when Baltimore
hammered pet, Jimmy Johnson was on this network saying yesterday
that Pittsburgh and Dallas should swap coaches. It's not a
terrible idea, It really isn't. I think right now the
defensive personnel for Dallas is better than the offensive personnel.
And Tomlin's got a trophy like McCarthy, So I don't
think it's a terrible idea. But I got to tell
(18:54):
you something, this whole thing that people supporting Mike Tomlin
and I like him, and if he came to Fox
tomorrow or he has or any networking, was a broadcaster,
he'd be a home run. But this whole flex about hey, hey,
never had a losing season. Sorry, that just means you
get worst draft picks. This organization offensively looks disorganized. How
(19:16):
long until they get the offensive line right. It's been
seven years. Andy Reid fixed the chief Soul line in
an off season. It's been seven years. They can't run
the ball, they can't fix the offensive line. The NFL
has pivoted to offense, and the Steelers offense has pivoted
to pitiful. It just keeps getting worse. I mean, I'm
(19:37):
watching people on the internet this weekend break down some
of the film from the first half. It was bad
and I think Mike Tomlin's a good guy. I think
he's a good coach, but he has no feel for offense.
And that's where the AFC has really gone. I mean,
you're watching Lamar and Josh Allen, CJ. Stroud, and you
(19:59):
got young guys like bo Nix and Herbert. They're just
they're gonna keep getting into the playoffs and giving you opportunities.
But I mean, honestly, maybe Mike Tomlin needs a darkness retreat.
He needs total silence to like look in the mirror
and examine what Pittsburgh is because I don't want to
hear that. I hear this all the time, Colin, we
(20:21):
don't have the right quarterback. I went and looked it
up this morning. Even with Big Ben and very above
average wide receivers, you didn't win a playoff game in
his last five seasons. In fact, in the last three
seasons with Big Ben, you were a bottom ten offense.
So I don't want to hear about quarterback. You had
Big Ben and you couldn't win a playoff game for
half a decade his last five years. So I mean,
(20:43):
maybe maybe Mike's got to pick up that book AJ
Brown was reading, find some inspiration, but it's not working.
And it doesn't mean he's a bad coach. I mean,
Mike McCarthy, he and Aaron didn't get along in Green Bay.
So you reboot, you sit out a year or whatever.
I've said this before. I think Tomlin would be amazing
on television. If he wants to take a year off,
(21:03):
I think he could work in Dallas. But this thing
in Pittsburgh. You don't get seven years to rebuild an
offensive line. You don't get seven years to figure out
how to get a run game. And you know Baltimore.
The other thing is Tomlin's teams, even when they weren't great,
they always played with such juice and toughness. This team
(21:27):
brought nothing. I mean that that thing felt it was
over like eight minutes in. There was no energy. And
I'm not saying that Mike Tomlin team would quit, but
they didn't have a second punch. That game felt over,
Like I thought Green Bay looked rattled, but they played
with a ton of energy. They were just falling apart physically.
(21:48):
That's different than what I saw with Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh looked
like they didn't want to be there. Against Baltimore, your
primary rival, here was Mike Tomlin after.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
They were the better group today. That was obvious. And really,
you know, the X factor was Lamar's unique talents. It
seems like every time we got him behind the sticks,
he made up for And I'm just assessing what transpired tonight.
As I told you guys early in the week, those
are my bags, not discollectives bags. And so my energy
(22:20):
is on that group in there and what they were
willing to give and the journey that we've been on
this year, and certainly it came to a disappointing end tonight.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Yeah, listen, the answer for this offense is not in
the building, Old Russ Young, justin Field, that's not the answer.
And everybody that lost this weekend, Let's be honest. The
Chargers didn't play well, but this is Jim Harbaugh's first year.
The Denver Broncos lost, you had a Buffalo and Bo
Nix is a rookie. Tampa Bay lost. You know, Jayden
Daniels is amazing and outplayed a very good Baker Mayfield.
(22:51):
I mean, Green Bay lost, they were missing five offensive
starters and Philadelphia at homes really good. But the Pittsburgh
loss was different. It's okay, but to not compete against Baltimore,
I mean that it's time like you again. Pete Carroll,
(23:13):
Bill Belichick, Andy Reid terrific coaches. People get tired of
their voice and they move on and they they Pete
got another job today. I think he'd flourish, and he
is flourishing. Belichick could flourish at Carolina. This is not
an indictment of Mike, but it is an indictment for
a franchise. They have no feel for offense in this
(23:36):
idea that while if they get the quarterback right, you
get a couple of quarterbacks in the league at a
college a year that are special. Last year is very unique,
and we still don't know if JJ McCarthy, Pennix or
Caleb will get it really right. Jmack with the news.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
This is the Herdline News.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
And it felt like this weekend, with all these Island
games that weren't great, people were looking for big stories,
whether it's Tomlin or Justin Herbert, who had his maybe
worst game of his career four interceptions.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
He only had three during the regular season.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Yeah, so naturally the vible online was Justin Herbert his
trash y Some moron told me that Justin Herbert is
basically Jeff George and I'm like, what are people? It
got a little crazy after the game. Mister Harbaugh put
the loss on himself.
Speaker 7 (24:30):
They were the better team today. I'll respect to them,
and not being the better team today is I'm accountable
for that. So that's that's on me. And congratulations to
UH Tamiko Ryans and the uh and the Texans. They
(24:50):
were the better scene.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
For the record, Joe Montana got benched in the playoffs
far through six interceptions in a playoff game, the worst game.
Former Charger Dan fell To ever had five picks in
the playoffs, four to one. Guy, When you play a
playoff game and you're trailing and you know it's the
last game of the year, it's not Week ten, you
try to jam balls in there. That was Farb against
the greatest show on turf, and he had like six
(25:13):
picks and he was trying to make plays. Justin Herbert
does not have a number one. His number two receiver,
Palmer was hurt. Lad McConkey is kind of it. Number
four receiver got hurt and the old line was getting
worked guard center guards, so it's like, it's not excuses.
It's playoff games are hard. They're you know, take out
(25:35):
Mahomes and Brady who had very few stinkers. This stuff
is hard.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
It looked to me like a team that kind of
ran out of gas. Yeah, we were framing it in
the headlines on Friday. I was like, you know, this
is the Chargers third straight road You did mention they
had the earliest buy in the NFL, and it was
like they just you know, they're leading what six nothing
late in the first half, and I thought they had
Stroud for a safety.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
He just intentional grinding.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
They were like, oh, he's outside the tackle by it
was close and that play was massive, and then there
was a bobbled snap.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
That he turned into a like a third and fifteen
that goes Bay twenty five.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
They they like Green Bay started losing skill people and
the quarterbacks Jordan Love and Justin Herbert don't have their
guys and they're trying to make plays on the road.
And Jordan Love and Justin Herbert using backups outline deteriorating,
don't have their top receivers. Jordan Love and Herbert are
trying to make plays. It's the last game of the
(26:29):
year and they both had bad.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
He had a bad game. It happens. You know, go
look at Peyton Manning's history in the playoffs. People forget
there was just no social media.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
If Jim Harbaugh took this job, and he's pretty good
because of Herbert, if Herbert was on the market today,
there'd be twelve teams that would pay him match.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
So maybe more than that.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
Yeah, I actually I think this could be a good
thing for the Charges because it's going to open their
eyes to Hey, our offense is limited as health we
need we we.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Gotta go get te Higgins.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
They be killed both.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Somebody I thought about the t Higgins move during this year.
I think you gotta go get them a big frame, dependable.
You're not paying Quentin Johnson, Lad McConkey, palmert. You're not
paying your receivers, none of them.
Speaker 5 (27:08):
I think you got in the draft in the first round.
You might even consider the kid Warren if he's around
from Penn State that off this.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
I honestly think if I was them, I would get
it tied end in the first round. I don't usually
want that. Yeah, but the kid at Michigan harbaughball, Well,
there's two great big ten tight ends Harball had one
and played against the other.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
And I'll say ask to genty a Boise Listen. I
like Dobbins a lot after the injury. He just wasn't
the same guy. He's got some tread on the tires.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
It's not over.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
Chargers fans settled down. Next up is to tonight's game.
Rams are quote unquote hosting the Vikings, but the game
is in Arizona. You know, La did some good things.
It sounds like they'll have a lot of fans there.
Not a technical home field advantage of the line has
drifted toward Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
McVeigh believes his team has the resolve to overcome it.
Speaker 8 (27:58):
I think our group's built for this. You know, this
is a unique situation, but I think all the things
that we've been through this year, this group is built
for this, and we're looking forward.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
To going and competing.
Speaker 8 (28:07):
I do believe that, in spite of, you know how
unfortunate a lot of these different things are, this group
is built to be able to handle different forms of
adversity and overcome, which they've done, and we're looking forward
to doing that this week.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
We've seen a few displaced games in remember the game
that was going to be. There was a game that
was supposed to be in Mexico in the NFL and
it ended up and it ended up moving places and
it was a great game. I think these teams will
be ready to go. These staffs are really excellent coaching staffs.
And by the way, a lot of Ram fans buses planes.
(28:40):
I think it's going to be a really raucous, cool crowd.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
You know, I was really really confident in the Rams.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
I have backed off just a little bit because this
is stuff. One thing we don't know Colin. How many
guys on the Rams their families had to leave their houses,
they were evacuated, and they're checking on their families like that.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
That's something we don't know the answer to.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
And that's real tough to think about a football game
when there's way bigger things to.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Foot out here in LA.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
We'll see what happens. Vikings are favored by two and
a half. Obviously, I'm rooting Rams. Sorry Viking fans, you
stick them with your paper.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
H Yeah. I feel a little less good about it.
If that's life, you know.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
J mckle the news, Well that's the news, and thanks
for stopping by the lie.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
So Mike McCarthy is now leaving. He's not been fired.
They could not his contract was up. It's like a
free agent. He's a free agent coach. The Cowboys were
not willing. This is my guess. The story is they
could not agree on terms. And I think Mike McCarthy
rightly so looked in his division and he sees Jayden
(29:44):
Daniels and Jaden Daniels is better right now than Dak
and free for the next four years, and he looks
at Philadelphia's roster and he says to himself, well, if
the Giants end up getting one of these young quarterbacks
and he's good all of the third or fourth best
quarterback in a division with the worst running back room
and to rebuild old line, that's not great. So I
think Mike McCarthy said, Okay, I'll stay, but you gotta
give me four years or five years. And I think
(30:06):
Mike McCarthy and his agent sat down and said, you
know what, we have the leverage here because once Rabel
signed with New England, if I was the agent for
Mike McCarthy, the minute Rabel signs with New England, if
I was McCarthy or his agent, and this may come
out I would have gone to Jerry and say I
want five guaranteed years, knowing he wouldn't give it to me.
(30:31):
Sometimes you ask for what you know you can't get
if you want out. And my guess is McCarthy and
his agent smartly asked for another year, and they knew
they wouldn't get it. And McCarthy said, I'm gonna go back.
I'm gonna beat the team that fired me Green Bay.
I've got a true number one receiver, I got a
better receiving core in Chicago. I got a much better
(30:52):
running back room in Chicago. Both the Bears and Cowboys
are rebuilding their own line. I think between Montes Sweat
and Jalen Johnson, you've got a couple of elite players.
I mean, you got Roma Dunze, DJ Moore, Keenan Allen,
a couple of tight ends, Gerald Everett and Cole Coment.
They got way better weapons in Chicago than Dallas. That
Ceedee Lamb and a bunch of nothing. So I think McCarthy,
(31:15):
my guess is, he asked for a year, he knew
he couldn't get so we could get out of here.
And I think he's gonna crush the Packers offense under
Mike McCarthy passing yards a game number three, and you say, well,
they had Aaron Rodgers the Cowboys offense under Mike McCarthy
passing yards of game sixth. Okay, so the Dak's not
(31:35):
the sixth best quarterback. And remember McCarthy got an older
offensive line, you know, he got you know, he got
a couple of good years with it, but it aged
pretty quickly. He also got Dak early, and then Dak
got hurt, and Dak was different, and now Dak's hurt
again and it's Cooper Rush. So the winning percentage for
Mike McCarthy is fifty eight percent. Wins in Dallas, Jimmy
(32:00):
Johnson is fifty five percent, Parcels is fifty three. Now
again we can contextualize it. I'm not saying it was
the same thing, but the last two years that has
not been a good Cowboy roster. I will defend Mike
McCarthy to the end. That roster is a mile from Buffalo, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit.
I think the Rams rosters better and deeper and more talented.
(32:26):
Colin Wright, Colin wrong and hasselback. Top of the hour,
we got to talk Jayden Daniels. By the way, we
may have ourselves another Mahomes. We may have ourselves another
Lamar Jackson, Jmack. Don't you roll your eyes. This kid
is something else.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
There's no eye rolling.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
This kid is something especially.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
On third and fourth down, the money downs.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
He is unbelievable. You've been thinking about home security? Now
is that I will not allow eye rolling on Jaden Daniels.
Simply save, help stop break ins. Go to simply Savecolin
dot Com fifty percent off a new system. There is
no safe like simply say.

million dollars, and please donate if you can.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
To give if you can. Been a really rough week.
The winds whip back up today. Our fingers crossed for
people in southern California. So Albert Breer just noted this
that Mike McCarthy changed agents to the very capable Don
Yee recently, so Donnie was Tom Brady's agent. I know
(34:47):
Donald little. He's super smart, highly effective, creme de la creme.
Don Yee as good as they get, so I'll go back.
Mike McCarthy got very aggressive here in the last couple
of weeks, and especially when Rabel got hired, and I
think Don Yee said, you're never gonna have leverage as
a coach. You're never gonna have it. Hardball had it
(35:08):
last year, Vrabel had it this year. Mike, you have
it now. It's a bunch of whiz kids. You got
a trophy. So I think Don Yee told him ask
for the moon and he did. My guess, and Jerry said,
I'm not giving you five years, so now now. And
another reason I truly believe this, I think Mike's a
smart guy. I think he looks at Philadelphia's roster and
(35:31):
thinks I'm nine players away from beating that. I think
he looks at Jayden Daniels. I think he's watching him
last night and thinking, there's just no way that this
kid is Lamar plus Mahomes. That's what I would do.
I would look at Jaden Daniels and the Philadelphia roster.
Remember this is the worst roster Jaden Daniel's gonna have.
They got cap space, and they're not paying that kid
for four years. And he at least as a rookie.
(35:53):
He moves better than Mahomes and throws better than Lamar
as a rookie. I mean, his poison in the fourth
quarter doesn't make sense. I got records in front of
me that he's set. And here's the thing. The NFL
gives you an all time quarterback legend about every six years,
and I'm talking Peyton, Manning, Elway, Mahomes, Farv. You know,
I'm talking the best of the best. Brady, you get
(36:16):
a legend every six years. I'm telling you, he singularly
won a road playoff game. I mean, he goes into
a game and I'm looking at I said this on
Friday Show, is that Baker's going to be at home
with a much better run game. And this kid, he
didn't have to run for that many yards. He had
(36:36):
thirty six rushing yards, but it felt like he had
much more because he runs so smartly, so circumstantially. He's
so good situationally, his fourth quarter passer rating, his overtime
passer rating, it doesn't make any sense. And I thought
Andrew Luck was the best quarterback I ever saw as
a rookie. He had a terrible roster. Washington doesn't have
(36:58):
a terrible roster. It's better than Andrew Luck. And this
kid maybe not Andrew Locke, but I'm telling you he's
in the sidecar, he's right next to him. Because his
ability to either intuitively make these plays or he may
be cognitively working in a completely different level. He sees
the ball and it is out. He's an anticipation thrower.
(37:18):
A lot of young quarterbacks aren't. He's accurate, he moves well.
And this roster has one elite playmaker, Terry mclaurin's got one.
So this is the worst roster this kid's gonna have.
And I mean, you get, you get all the upside
with him. And that was really the Mahomes gift. Remember
the Mahomes gift when he came into the league. First
of all, you never knew what the score was. Patrick
(37:39):
Mahomes was as good trailing by two touchdowns as leading.
That's what this kid is. The second thing, it was
like Mahomes could scuff scuff scuff, and then the two
biggest drives of the game, he was remarkable. So that's
what that's what this kid has, is that he's got
that Mahomes thing where it's like he is way too
poised this early. He gets better on the biggest drives.
(38:02):
He's had choppy first halfs this year. He's unbelievable in
overtime in the last couple drives of games. Unbelieve It
doesn't make any sense. So I get. I mean again,
I think he as a rookie is a better runner
than Mahomes has ever been. And as a rookie, he's
a much better passer than Lamar was for the first
two to three years. Now, Lamar's very good in the
pocket now. But I mean, and the other thing is
this stuff matters. You guys make fun of me, and
(38:24):
you have every right to. But here's another thing. I
talk about it all the time for quarterbacks. Temperament A
plus plus. This kid's an adult. He's not moody on
the sidelines. We know the guy in New York that
is this kid is positive, no finger pointing. You watch
him on the sidelines, you have no idea what the
(38:46):
score is. You watch him in the field, you have
no idea if he's trailing or leading. His temperament at
the podium, even Peyton Manning as great as he was,
remember Peyton Manning early in his career, it was real antsy.
Lamarr Jackson admitted last week he goes, I get antsy,
none of that. So, first of all, here's Jadeen Daniels
(39:07):
on the first Washington playoff win in twenty years.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
I'm grateful to have the opportunity. I'm happy for you know,
the fan base of franchise, everything has been through to
get to this point. So I'll just say I'm just
grateful and happy for everybody, including myself too.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
I mean, I'm trying to find the hole in his
game because you know that's what guys like me do.
And I'm like, this must have been what listening to
Mozart was like. And You're like, how is this Mozart
guy so good so early? That's what I feel like.
What am I watching here? How is he as good
as Elway wasn't his eighth year. In the fourth quarter
(39:46):
and overtime, Tampa's got a defense. Tampa. Tampa had the
experience quarterback Todd Bowles, excellent defensive coach. Three game winning
drives in four weeks. And by the way, it's been
a long time since they won in Washington. When this
game got late and Tampa made that goal line stand,
(40:08):
I thought Tampa's gonna win this thing. Then they coughed
it up. But here is the radio. The Commander's a call.
You just you just gotta let them have some fun
in DC. I mean, DC's no fun, right, That's not
a fun place. It's the traffic, the politics. We got
some fun in DC. Here. It is.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Step good fold hell kick on its way.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
It is.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
The tardiac commanders are the clutch commanders.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Say do it again, We'll see you.
Speaker 9 (40:41):
It's a droits, it's it's all this tis at the
dog it.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Uh you know it's yeah, I know you think I'm
being over the top here. I'm just telling you, I
said Friday on the show. So the only way I
see Washington win is if Jade and Daniels is just magical.
But it does. You only get we've only had fifteen
all time great quarterbacks and we're talking an elevated class.
And Mahomes, Josh Allen Brady, Mahomes far that kind of stuff.
(41:15):
I mean, not like all time, all time high high high.
And I don't know if any of them were this
good this soon. I don't know if any of them were.
I'm I remember Elway was very good, Andrew Luck was.
He doesn't count because it didn't last long enough. But
for a rookie, I mean, remember Mahomes didn't have to
play his first year till the last week. Lamar didn't
play until week eleven. This kid with an average roster
(41:37):
in a division with Philadelphia experienced coaches, experienced rosters. They
thrust him into it. It's we get this kid for
the next fifteen years.
Speaker 5 (41:48):
Have you seen a video of him on the game
winning field goal. He's just sitting on the bench, just
cool as a cucumber.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Dan Quinn and everybody, oh, we want and so he
just stands up smiling. He's like, all right, we got this.
He's just very.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Jay Ride at Villanova, remember that, He's like, well, we
want to Natty, what are the towels? Let's get everything
in order here. Our two next
