Speaker 3 (00:33):
I feel great. Minus all have a pizza I have
this week. Aside from that, I feel fantastic. Cavino, you
look like you had a lot of pizza. Rich I did.
I'm still bloated. It's like the first day. Here's what happened.
I bought a lot of pizza, so it lasted me
like through the whole week. So I had like pizza
every day this week. That's why I always tell people
(00:53):
if they come over my place, take food. You get
this out of my I just what are we gonna
do it? I can't throw it away. Guess I'll have
to hear it anyway. I'm glad the weekends here. Happy
to be here. I'm Steve Cavino. That is Rich Davis.
We got music in the House of the Music Ry.
We got Danny g we got Chocko Cheeks, Sexy Ryan
(01:13):
over there and Spotty hanging out. Thank you guys for
hanging with us. Fox Sports Radio Nation. We try to
get you involved at eight seven seven four The Herd
eight seven seven for the Herd, Everything at Covino and Rich. Now,
if you're new to our show, we're on Monday through
Friday two to four out here on the West, five
to seven on the East. We have a bonus podcast
called over Promised on Fox Sports Radios YouTube page. But
(01:34):
always a pleasure to be here. And I hope you
had a Golden State Warriors sort of Thursday night. Yeah,
it was a great game. We're gonna talk about the NBA.
We're going to talk about the NFL. The Draft is
a couple weeks away. But before we get to all that,
I gotta say today's a very special day back on
the East Coastjan Soto's first game at City Field is
(01:55):
a met barf really whatever. I can't root at all
for that guy. It's wild how Cavino feels personally hurt
that on Soto left the Yankees. I don't hate the guy.
But hold that note because later on the show, if
we have time, because it's action packed, we gotta talk
some stocks, players stocks. In fact, we gotta talk some NFL.
(02:19):
We gotta talk about players and entertainers and people you'll
never forgive, And Wan Soto's one of those guys. For me.
Doesn't mean I hate the guy, doesn't mean I wish
him harm. Did he break your heart? See here's the thing,
Like people think I'm gonna lose sleep over it, and
every night I'm kicking in screaming like what so no,
(02:41):
why that's That's not it at all. But I won't
forgive him for chasing the bag and leaving the Yankees
with unfinished business. So we'll explain. We'll talk about later
people that you'll never forgive. Well, let's start where everyone
left off. Last night. You were watching some NBA, I'm
guessing Lakers Warriors. Whether you tuned in for the whole
game or just the fourth quarter, you got the vibe
(03:04):
of that game. And let me throw the stat out
to start the conversation. And then I know Danny g
our super Producer's got some hypotheticals and some thoughts, but
everyone's focusing on Luca, Luca Lucas since he joined the Lakers,
you know, since Anthony Davis went to the Dallas Mavericks
and got hurt. I'm not saying it's under the radar,
but Jimmy Butler immersing himself in Golden State nineteen and
(03:28):
two when him and Steph are playing together twenty and four,
since that trade Golden State, they got some buzz, they
got momentum. And Jimmy Butler, who seems to get better
in high pressure situations, right, he still has a lot
to prove. He has personal unfinished business. He has a
(03:49):
chip on his shoulder from everything that went down this year,
and he's known as playoff Jimmy, so you have to
figure once playoffs hit, he's only going to step up
even more. The gold State Warriors get more dangerous, and
Draymond Green is still playing good defense, so they look
pretty solid. Man Steph making Luca look bad yesterday. Every
(04:09):
Lakers fan I know felt the same way because when
I saw Draymond Green after a couple of great defensive
plays in the fourth, when he does a little growl
like ah, he gets all pumped up his face and
again he's trying to show too that he's still the
guy and he still has it. His face is so punishable,
I imagine to Lakers fenced. First of all, that dude
needs to shave his hair. Shave his head, no play
(04:32):
for mister gray, and color that beard. If you're going
to rock a beard that's like old man Winters. I know,
I agree with you. I mean, I don't know why
that's a thing. I don't know why, especially in the NBA,
which is a young man's game, you want to show
your age and wisdom. I don't get that. The whole
wisdom thing. An amazing advantage when it comes to hair color.
(04:57):
For all the black dudes in the NBA, you could
dye your hair black. If you're a white dude with
a shade of brown, you dye your hair the wrong color.
You look like Robert Gulay in the eighties or nineties.
A black dude could just comb it in the beer.
When you get it with dudes' in twenties, you take lucky.
You are lucky. You could. You could color your hair
literally until the day you die. Comito. You always say
(05:19):
you have that advantage being that you're a Mexican dude.
You say you you just used, Yeah, but I use
the one with the Mexican guy on the cover of
the box just for Votos, just for Votos. That's not
a real thing. It is a real thing. Should be
buy No. But seriously, I just don't get that because
it just makes him look older, which makes it more surprising, like, oh,
Dreamond's still gone. You know what he's playing. He's playing
(05:41):
young though he is, he's playing big and they looked good.
Now we got to make it clear. We're out here
in Los Angeles and Danny g R. Producer is a
big time Lakers guy. I lean Lakers. I lean and
root for the Lakers. Been out in LA for fifteen years.
I never really had an NBA team that I embraced.
Of course, I grew up watching the Knicks and the Nets,
(06:02):
but oh, let's be real. Let's be real. Cano lived
in Jersey, was a Nets fan, and then a girlfriend
of his left him for a guy on the Nets.
That'll make you not like a team any that was.
That was kind of tough. So being out here, right,
I mean, imagine, imagine you're dating a girl that leaves
you for a guy on the team you root for.
You might not like that. Team as much whatever. Hearing
(06:24):
me on the herd right now, she probably regrets it.
Oh what would you do if your girl left you
and you found out she was sleeping with Aaron Judge?
That'd be tough. Yeah, that had I'd have nightmares about
that for sure. Yeah. Oh god, I was seven mast
that's hard to my god, it's hard to imagine. Yeah,
I feel real inferior. That would be. That would be
like if your current girl left you for another radio
(06:46):
star right now. Yeah, but guess right, he doesn't use
a torpedo bat, so he might have a torpedo bat. Forth.
Is that a torpedo bat in you you're baseball? Why
would you say that? Yeah, it would. It would affect
my rooting interest at least throughout his career. But since
you've been out here, you said that the Lakers are
a fun watch. Yeah, so I want to make it
(07:07):
clear that that's the perspective we're coming from. Like we're
not Lakers haters, we're not necessarily fans either, but I'm rooting, like,
come on, come on, Lakers, let's go. I want to
see Luca the La and Lucas do their thing. And
I'm saying that because I'm watching thinking the whole time.
Sorry DANNYG, Sorry Lakers fans. I'm like, the Golden State
(07:27):
Warriors look like the better team right now. And I
know it's just one game, and I don't want to
be prisoner of the moment like we always say, but
the Golden State Warriors just look like they were in
the zone, dominating the whole game until the very end.
The Lakers stepped up a little bit, and I think
they're only going to get better from here. Well, unless
you're a team that dominates from start to finish all year,
(07:48):
you end up being a team in the NFL that,
you know, wins fourteen games plus and you just dominate
a baseball team that wins a hondo plus. Music and
I were talking, we were walking to get coffee before
the show, and we were saying, how in every sport,
it's that team that enters the playoffs hot. It doesn't
(08:10):
matter if they're ten and seven in the NFL, doesn't
matter if they're the wildcard in baseball that has eighty
eight wins, that is the dangerous team. I don't care
if the Golden State Warriors have won ten less games
than some of their NBA. You know, championship seasons Golden
State right now, you heard the stats when Steph and
Jimmy Butler played together nineteen and two. That team is scary, scary,
(08:34):
and that was an away game for them, that was
in LA. That matters. I'm like, this is the statement game.
That's why we were all tuned in. It was a
TNT game. We're watching statement game. Let's see what the
Lakers got, Let's see where they stand. And I'm thinking, man,
I thought the Lakers. That was the feeling. I thought
the Lakers are better than this. Dan, what's the assessment
(08:56):
as far as like, was it an off night for
lucas seems?
Speaker 4 (08:59):
I mean, yes, definitely an off night shooting for Luca,
But then you saw what he was able to do
to contribute to the team with those slick passes, and
he was the one that helped lead the charge to
get him to one oh five to one hundred where
it looked like they might make a comeback, Austin Reeves
hitting those threes in clutch time, but overall, the Lakers
defense was off just to start the week against the
(09:23):
Rockets till the very end. The second seed Rockets lost
to the Lakers to start the week. The Lakers were
shooting better in that game. Their defense was on point
last night. They did not lock down on defense until
towards the end of the game. But that you also
got to capitalize on big moments. Lebron had a nice
steal at the end of the game and the Golden
State Warriors got it back. Wasted moment, moment that could
(09:45):
have been their chance. And again that's what big teams do,
they capitalize on those moments. However, Lebron James again, thirty
three points, that's a positive. You had Austin Reeves playing big,
hitting shots at the end with thirty one points.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
There were positives and they were battling. But to me,
the Golden State Warriors looked like they had more momentum,
more fire and more juice. And again as the season
gets late and we hit the playoffs, Jimmy Butler steps
up even more. They're looking a little more, a little
more scary to me. Well, the Western Conference, i think
it's safe to say, is tighter than a pair of
(10:20):
skinny jeans in the twenty tens. I mean tighter than
your skinny jeans in the twenty tens. Well, you use
the students wear a ballerina pants. Are you wearing carpenter jeans?
One of the carpenters. Davis's pants were so tight they
had like stirrups on the bottom, you know what I mean,
like he had to put his feet through them. So
he was wearing veterina pair. You look at the Western
Conference right now, the three seed through the eighth seed
are within two and a half games of each other.
(10:42):
That's insane. I mean, you could say once again and
it doesn't matter, but I'm sure some teams want that
home court advantage. Some teams don't want to have to
play in a playing game. So again, the Nuggets, Lakers,
Golden State, Memphis, Minnesota, and the Clippers all within two
and a half games of each other. Tight. That's it.
It's gonna come down to the final week and you know,
(11:04):
you start thinking about matchups and that that could be
a big determining factor. And health is a huge factor
here too. And that's the other conversation today. You know
people were watching that game, watching it closely. Does one
game tell the whole story? No, you'd have to play
out a whole series, right, and I would imagine, And
that's why we're so excited to talk about it. You
(11:26):
could imagine that it would be a battle if it
was a full on series back and forth. But the
talk today is would the Lakers have been better with
a healthy Ad? And I would say no. Lucas still
the guy you make that move every day of the week.
He just had an off game. And it's as simple
as that. You just don't want to have off games
when the world is watching and when it matters, because
(11:48):
that was a statement game and you're given the Golden
State Warriors extra confidence and you're adding to the momentum
they already have. All right now, Danny g before the show,
you said, by well, when you guys wrap your little recap,
I got some NBA hypothetical. So what you got? All right?
Speaker 4 (12:04):
So Western Conference options for you guys, choose one, go
to Covino, you Rich and Ryan Music, Okay, all right?
Speaker 3 (12:12):
One, two or three. We'll start with you Covino. All right. One,
the OKC thunder who may win seventy games this season
power their way to the NBA Finals, despite the fact
that they are a young team whose average age is
just under twenty six. Second option the Golden State Warriors,
who of course added Jimmy playoffs at the right time,
(12:33):
knock down endless threes with Stephan company, still have a
top defender in Dreymond and they fight their way to
the NBA Finals. Or three, the Lakers, who now have
a mostly healthy Lebron and Luca put it all together,
run in gun with Austin Reeves nailing threes, and JJ
Reddick has them lock down their defense all the way
to the NBA Finals. Which one of those three is
(12:53):
most likely? I'll be prisoner of the moment right now
and say, with playoff Jimmy, like we're not seeing the
best of this guy. Is gonna be the Golden State
Warriors for me? Oklahoma City Thunder too young, too inexperience
for that moment. I think they're hot right now. Come playoffs.
Is gonna be different games better than anyone else. Like
you said, Danny, They're gonna end up with seventy went
(13:13):
sixty four and twelve. They're fifteen games better than three.
I'm going with the Golden State Warriors based on what
I saw yesterday and based on the potential.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
It's something ironic, Cove, you know, the last team or
the only team to be that young and win the
NBA Finals the twenty fourteen to fifteen Warriors. So the
team you just picked. Wow, all right, let's go with you,
Rich Thunder Warriors or Lakers.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Olevey. Let it be known that on the top of
guy that's way more excited about Happy Gilmore two than
some Academy Award winning film, I like entertainment. I'm not
the guy that cares about like, how about that Naked
Gun trailer? Man? See like I'm excited about the Naked
Gun trailer debuted yesterday. Looks great? Yeah, big sexy run
you just like huffed. Liam nee said, yeah, no, drubbing Jr. No,
(14:04):
that's a Will Farrell role, not not for Liam Neeson.
The trailer, Yeah, unfortunately, I think he could do it.
He's gonna find you and kill you. Well, a personal
opinion about black people, so maybe who knows. He's a
special set of comedy. So we shall see again. I'm
on the type of guy that I just I love entertainment.
(14:24):
Don't show me this Academy Award winning movie boring. And
I feel that way about Oklahoma City because I'm the
guy call me call me basic rich. I do all
the time. I'm a basic rich because I way rather
see Golden State or the Lakers. I think with you,
I think entertainment value. Yes, it's not just me, the NBA,
(14:47):
the league, ratings, networks. Everyone wants this to come down
to Golden State, the Lakers, even the Joker. That's even
more exciting. I think it sounds like you're racist against
small markets, li I am. If Oklahoma City goes all
the way, it may be the lowest rated NBA finals
of all time. I think I hate agreeing with Rich.
I think he's absolutely right. I think you know again.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Call me, you watched SGA and Homegren and those guys
play this year. I don't think you guys have watched
any Thunder games.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
You know what, I will say, I've not watched enough
of them, but I just know what sparks my interest.
Call me Basic and Covino. Your boy Caruso is on
the Thunder. No, I watched him. I saw you know,
I saw him the other night looking good. People are
saying that SGA has like, dare I say this, like
jordan esque vibes, Like like there's moments where he has
(15:38):
a similarities. But to me, Lakers like just just purely
for the entertainment, like ya could Lebron win one more.
Luca couldn't get the job done in Dallas did they
have the gas? And you know, by the way, JJ
Redick wasn't ready to be a coach, right And now
all of a sudden, oh, he's just Lebron's podcast partner
(15:59):
and a blowho on ESPN. Now the guy could be
coaching a team to the NBA Finals. I think the
Lakers is a great story in Golden State. I think
OKC is fifteen games better than anyone else. Yet I
don't care. And it's amazing we're still talking about those
two teams. You know, after all these years, we know
what it's like to be on again. There's so many
more runs, right, Like remember when we were watching the
(16:20):
NFL and you're like, how many more times are we
going to get Brady Manning. There's only so many times
we could get these two guys, Steph and Lebron. And
now we add in Jimmy Butler and Luca. This is
you know, aging shipperstars. But that's what made the storyline
more exciting. Almost feel like you could get SGA for
the next decade. You added a good cast of character
(16:43):
so still has our interest when it comes to the gas.
You have to give the Lakers credit last night because
they actually stepped up toward the end of the game
and scored more than the Golden State Warriors in the
fourth quarter. You know, I thought they were gonna trail off.
They actually had a chance. They actually came back, So
that's surprising. Like they still have the gast. Lebron still
the guy, and again he still had a big steal
(17:04):
that could have put the Lakers right there in it.
So again, if you missed it, they lost. Golden State
Warriors win one, twenty three, one sixteen. Music.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
Out of those three options, music, which one's most likely
to happen?
Speaker 5 (17:16):
So my heart and my head pull me in two
different directions here. As a lifelong La guy, I'm obviously
wanting the Lakers to make the run, but I am
going to be the one to say that it's going
to be the Oklahoma City thunder. Okay, Yes, there's there's
so much doubt because we haven't seen it, and we
have so much built in equity into seeing Lebron and
(17:40):
Steph do it in the past. We just think that
it's a given that inevitably it's going to be one
of them, But not only are the Thunder a good team,
they're like historically great by almost every statistical measure. It
just makes you look back on it at the end
of the season or a couple of years from now,
where we're gonna go. Man, it seems weird that we
(18:01):
even doubted the fact that the Thunder were not going
to be the team coming out of the West when
they very clearly were the best team in the league
all season.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Yeah, you know, it's again I'll make the analogy that
you know, I in the bright lights do matter though
in sports in some cases, young players, young fighters, young anybody. Yeah,
But in some cases I think we all are a
little basic where it's like, well, if unless you're a
diehard Okase fan, I think the average person will be like, yeah,
you would probably be more fun to watch Steph Curry,
(18:30):
you know, knocking down trees one last time or Lebron
you know. It's it's sort of like when people hate
on people that like mainstream music or mainstream movies and like, oh,
I know there's indie bands. I don't really care about
your indie band. That's how I feel about like small
market basketball teams, like yeah, yeah, you go go to
the you know, small club and watch your band. I'll
go to so Fine and watch you know, here's here's
(18:51):
a yellow swift. Here's another comp for you.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
So golf right, Masters coming up in a week, going
into every tournament. Now, obviously he had a super lay
April Frews joke about trying to make a comeback. But
we know Tiger Woods isn't playing right, just in a
big picture sense. Every year at the Masters, we all
want Tiger Woods perfect to be there on Sunday to win.
You still believe that's where we want it to be.
(19:16):
But in our heads we're gonna be like, of course
it's gonna be Scotty Shuffler.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
He's so much better. So yeah, that Tiger Woods.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
Right here, and now that at the end of the tournament,
you're like, man, why did I think that Tiger was
going to make another run? I clearly should have gone
with someone like Scotty Shuffler, who's much better.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Right now, dude, you're so right, great analogy. Hey, listen
your thoughts eight seven seven the Herd if you want
to chime in or at Covine on Rich and as
we fill in for a buddy, the Great Colin cow
heard we're gonna talk about forgiveness in sports. Also in
to look at your four to one care portfolio today?
Trust so being at the markets. In the pooper, we're
(19:56):
gonna talk about players that were got on the cheap way.
It's worse looking at the market or looking at like
your ex with her new guy. Hey, I got photos
of your ex with her new guy. You want to
see them all? I may rather look at my portfolio.
But we're gonna talk about players that are on contracts
that you feel are great buys because a lot of
people say now might be the time to buy. We'll
get to all that next right here. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neonon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
All right, Cavino and Rich shit for Colin on The
Herd Friday, Let's go. Welcome back. Thank you for hanging
out with us wherever you are, whoever you are, We
appreciate you being here putting up with us. We know
you're expecting. Colin. You get Cavino and Rich Lucky you.
We got Danny g super producing eight seven seven for
(20:49):
the herd. That's eight seven seven four, eight four thirty
four thirty seven, eight seven seven forty four thirty four
to thirty seven. We like to get people involved. We'd
like to hear from you any thoughts on the Golden
State Warriors win over the Lakers last night. By all means,
let us know that West is tight, tighter than Rich's
medium shirts come summertime. So your thoughts on that. We
(21:11):
gave you ours out here in LA. Wanted to make
it clear we're not like super Laker fans, but definitely
rooting for the Lakers. However, Golden State Warriors seemed some
strong last night. They really did, no doubt. Now, speaking
of games, we have our own game later today giving
away prizes, basically bribing third audience. Come on check out
our show. Yeah, check out our podcast search Covino and
(21:33):
Rich giving away swiggies. What's a swiggy? Gives you the swaggy?
It's a stainless steel water bottle Fox Sports Radio, Covino
and Rich stainlessteel water bottle. But it's the Midnight Black
limited edition one. And let's be honest, your kids, your
nose picking kids, they lose every water bottle you have
and they leave it at school, so you need another one.
(21:54):
And we're going to play a game called quote me
for the prizes, Quote me later. So we'll give some
quotes and you got a guess who said it. It's
multiple choice. Plus we gotta talk some NFL, more basketball,
definitely some baseball, huge baseball fans. But right now, Rich,
what everyone's trying to avoid the stock market? Well, people
are trying to avoid looking at their accounts because as
(22:15):
of right now, no way, noboddy boy. Nasdaq's down almost
five percent. Everything's tumbling. Tariffs and by the way, do
you see one of the few items they said starting
in a week because the price is gonna bump up.
Jordan's for real, Yeah, Jordan's. They're saying they're gonna be
over two hundred bucks. Now, man, do I sell all mine?
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Now?
Speaker 3 (22:35):
You might want to get a mine on the goat
apps see how much they can make. So I'm not
talking about tariffs and politics. I just know that today
is not a day or yesterday. By the way, that's big.
You're saying, hold on a regular pair of Jordan's. They
just say, go over the two hundred bomb. They're saying
the Jordan's that are in the one fifty to eighty range. Wow.
So no tariffs, no politics. But I did say you're
(22:59):
not gonna want to look at your portfolio, your four
oh one k. It's just you know, this could all
reverse itself. And that's that's why I bring this up.
Now's the time where there's some friends that are like, yo, bro,
now's the time to buy when when things are low.
I'm not a financial advisor, but we all know. You know,
there's there's always a bottom. You're not gonna everyone tries
to find that bottom, and then that's how the rich
get rich. You know, Just to stay positive here because
(23:22):
it is a downer of a conversation and that's not
our vibe. That's not our vibe. You know, if you
have no intention of getting back with your X, why
would you be checking out her pictures on social media?
Speaker 6 (23:32):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:32):
I don't do that, Yeah, except no intention of ever returning.
Don't care?
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:37):
So why do you keep looking at your portfolio if
you have no intention of selling? Right now? I understand
if you need that money, everyone's in a different position.
I get it to be in quick it is so
many but are you selling? So why would you do
that to torture yourselfbody, Are you gonna look at your
four to one khre six five? I you got to
hope and believe that it's gonna come back. Right now.
We're going through a bad spot, right, so what do
you just do it and check it every day just
(24:00):
or you yourself to know what's going on. You know
it's bad. But if you're not selling, why are you looking?
Checking your investments is the same as looking at your
ex's ass on Instagram. Yeah, there's no point. I have
no intention on getting back with her anytime soon, right so,
or at all or ever unless you want to plan
on unless you plan on selling, or you had intentions
on selling, or you needed that money to purchase something else.
(24:22):
And yeah, I look, I sympathize completely, But there's a
lot of people out there that just have their money
in there for the long term deal of it. They
don't necessarily need it right now. That that would be
and that would be you and you sit there torturing
yourself all day. There are people that are also looking
for opportunities to say where's the bottom? Well, that means
(24:43):
that's different, let me invest more now. And that brings
us to our sports angle of this forget the market
and tariffs and all this stuff. If you were to
compare sports to stocks, players to stocks the market, who
do you feel is the bargain? Like right now, if
you're seeing stocks that are down ten twenty thirty percent
(25:06):
over the last three or four months, what player I'll
give you one? To start off the conversation, I think
the Giants got Russell Wilson at like a fifty two
week low. I think I think the fact that they
got Russell Wilson for roughly ten MILI plus incentives, and
incentives are only paid if he does well. I think
the Russell Wilson deal, well, you mean a lim mister lim. So,
(25:31):
I couldn't agree with you more on that. And when
Rich and I agree, it's a fact. Whether you like
him or not, we could all agree he's cringey. We
can also agree that he's handled the press well already.
You know, he looks happy to be there. He's he's
been there, done that. He's ready for a new start.
I think it's going to be a nice fit for
a low investment. He's a he's still a decent quarterback.
(25:54):
He doesn't stink. He's just not the same player. He
used to be.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Do the Giants really know how to play the stock
market though, because they already had the same exact stock
when they got Jamis Winston.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
I'm I get what you're saying, but you could say
the Giants made a terrible stock buy when they gave
Daniel Jones that contract a couple of years ago. So
a year, but he gets money. You got a champion
ten million a year, but what twenty with and centives?
Speaker 4 (26:22):
I was just going to say, more money for Jones
than both the new guys combined.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Come bine, that's the thing. So how could you say
it's not a decent move. You know you're going to
get a decent product and output from Russell Wilson. I
don't think you're going to get a terrible result. So
what team bought a player at a low stock price?
That's sort of the where I'm going with this. I
got another one. I feel like, year after year hometown discount.
(26:49):
Plus he doesn't want to leave. He's meant so much
to them, so they they sort of keep throwing them
a bone every year. When Clayton Kershaw sounds like a
one one year deal that I always think is way
und value for those three thousand strikeouts in I know
he's not the Kershaw, the cy young of old, but
the fact that the Dodgers year at the year keep
(27:11):
giving him these one year deals and I'm like, he
could probably get more somewhere else. I feel like the
Dodgers they buy that stock low every year for Kershaw.
Do you think he can get more somewhere else? I
don't think so. If he's healthy and there's no guarantee there.
I know he's at like over twenty seven hundred strikeouts right,
let me double check that. So he's reaching certain milestones
(27:32):
and they have a chance to win another ring, you know,
for his career. I think he just wants to be
part of that. I don't blame him at all, and
there's a comfort level of still playing with the Dodgers
and not having to change his life for another year.
I think it's a win win for both teams. I
actually agree with you, but I don't think he'd be
getting more somewhere else. The fact that the Mets held
(27:53):
strong and got Pete Alonso for two years fifty four
mil When you look at what other guys in Major
League based get and you see what Pete's already done
Grand Slam three run home run to tie the game
the other night and the Mets ended up winning. The
fact that nobody scooped him up is a travesty, it
really is. And the fact that you guys made him
wait that long. I mean props to the Mets, but
(28:16):
I think he's the core in heart of what you
guys are doing at City Field. I think he's the
guy I like Pete Alonzo. So yeah, I think you
got a wheel of a steal of a deal there.
Now again, we open it up to you. Fox Sports
Radio Nation, The Herd, Covino and Rich. I'm gonna check Twitter.
I'm sorry, X Yeah, please do eight seven seven for
eight four thirty four to thirty seven. If you're on
(28:38):
your way to work, or you're midday eating lunch, having
a casual on Friday and you can't call in, you
can chime in at Covino and Rich on social media
at Fox Sports Radio again. Eight seven seven four eight
four thirty four to thirty seven is eight seven seven
four The Herd. Now, I only say this because I
know his potential. I know he's not a superstar A
(29:00):
rich Yeah, but you're not going to tell me that
it wasn't a nice deal to get Alex Vdugo for
one point five million dollars. One point five million dollars.
I mean even Aaron Boone was like, you got a
hell of a player for a little bit of money.
I think that's a good deal. It's a great deal,
you know, because yeah, he had a bad year and
(29:20):
off year, not even a terrible year. He had an
off year last year. But the guy is still capable
of hitting bombs and he's great in the outfield. So
you can get a guy who's solid player for one
point five million dollars, you take that. I know he's
in rove. I know he's in his thirties. Now I'll
give you another NFL one. You always hear me talk
about my Niners right to NYG. The fact that Kyle Yuschek,
(29:42):
I know, he's a full back in who plays full
back in twenty twenty five, but year of the year
he's the pro bowler because he's the most active full
back as far as carries catches out of the backfield.
Great blocker Hart and saw the forty nine ers, Remember
the Niners cut him and then he said I'll come
back for the same price. Restructured four million dollars a
(30:03):
year for Kyle Euschik, a Pro Bowl, possible Hall of
Fame level fullback. That's a great deal. Four mil.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
I'll go to the other New York football team, Justin
Fields two years, forty million dollars. We saw what he
was capable of to start the season with the winning
record for the Steelers. And you know what, are you
going to pay a decent quarterback nowadays forty million a year?
Speaker 3 (30:27):
And you have youth on your side, right and a
build around, a build around. If it doesn't go well,
it's you don't feel like, oh man, we're you know, yeah,
we're holding the bag on this one. He can make
plays with his arms and legs. We often talk about
how much money people are making, how ridiculous. It sounds like,
oh my god, you believe so and so signed for this.
(30:49):
You know who got the wheel of a steal of
a deal because you buy when the stock is low.
That's where we're at as a as a nation. Let's
talk about some sports, some athletes, some moves that were
made or that you wouldn't make. Want to hit me
with one more, or you want to go to music
for us for a go to music and they were
her line there, so we'll take a different calls. What's
(31:09):
up Ryan?
Speaker 5 (31:10):
All right, gentlemen, great to be with you here this morning.
It's you a little breaking news, shall we out of
the NBA A costly move for John Morant. The NBA
has fined Morant seventy five thousand dollars yeah, for mimicking
a gun celebration. Here's what the NBA statement says. John
Moran has been fined seventy five grand for twice making
(31:32):
an inappropriate gesture on the playing court. Morent was previously
warned by the league office that this gesture could be
interpreted in a negative light. So obviously this all stems
from John Moran also previously serving a suspension for some
gun related things. So the NBA saw this game a warning,
(31:52):
he did it again, and last night's game now.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
He's been hit with a fine. Oh that's just dumb, right.
The warning is what gets me, the fact that they
get him a warning and he went to do it again.
It's like if you got kids, I'll tell my son, like, yo,
if you do that one more time, I'm taking away
your Pokemon cards. And sometimes he'll look at me spitefully
and do the same thing over. I'm like, you little
son of it. So it's like a kid that's not listening. However,
(32:15):
I mean your son's five years old, he's a grown man.
But was it worth seventy five thousand that it's just careless?
Something odd about the whole gun gesture. I mean, poor
shooter McGavin, right, shoot up. Listen. Remember in the NFL playoffs,
I it's my memory doesn't remember who did like a
first down gun thing? Sure, and they called the play
back fifteen yards. Your memory doesn't remember. You mean you
(32:36):
mean edibles, is what you mean? I forget, But I
just think it's silly. I mean, guns are not illegal.
I know, it's all it's intent, right when someone goes
first down or someone's like, hey, shooter, I don't know.
I think it's silly, Like guns are legal in this country.
You have the right to bear arms. You can't go
can't make it clear. The NFL is the NFL. We're
(32:57):
talking John Rant. But the NFL you brought them up to.
They're very strict about the gesture, Like they made it
very clear that there's like a no tolerance policy. You're
allowed to do a boon and arrow, though, well it's
not all weapons. S Yeah, bone arrow is acceptable. I
mean rules are rules. If a slingshot, I don't know,
you know what dope for not listening to the warning,
(33:20):
but in general is listening to Rich Davis, who's a
fan of the New York Mets. Junk drop celebration. You know,
seeing this, do you know what the junk drop? We
can't say what they're really calling. It rhymes with long
the junk jop drops celebration. You know how athletes are.
Baseball player celebrate when they hit a double or again
(33:40):
on second. They all have a gesture. The Dodgers do
a little hip flexor thing. The Mets are doing it.
The Mets are doing an X rated moves. Oh, let's
say it's like an elephant trunk. They're doing this deal. Okay,
all right? BYEP curls that it is doing a bicep curl.
Rich thinks that's appropriate as well. Anything goes comino.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
All right, Let's turn our attention to the NFL, and
you know they've decided to table the vote on banning
the infamous tush push sort of in the war of
the offseason, Eagles campaigning to keep the play, several head
coaches and teams trying to get rid of it. Well,
you can count on the Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
He's someone doesn't have a problem with it. Here's what
(34:19):
he had to say. I'm of the school that they
found something and it's up to everyone else to stop it.
So I'm a hard yes to keep it. You know,
he's he's a badass guy, Dan Campbell. He's a hard
nosed football guy. I'm all for the tush push. The
only person that sort of convinced me a little bit
is our very own LeVar Arrington from Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe here in Fox Sports. He said
(34:40):
that traditionally, you know, he's a football guy. Lebar Sure said,
when the player gets stopped Ford progress football means that's
when the play should be over. Shouldn't be four guys
behind continuing focus should be on that, and that's why
it should be banned. That the safety of the players.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
You got players running full speed on a kickoff, running
at each other, Like, how is that any more dangerous?
But it doesn't understand that. If you're gonna go with
Lvar's argument, if you think the stop of Ford momentum
should be immediately when the play is called dead. Yeah,
that makes help. Push just goes against all that because
you just keep shoving and shoving and shoving until you
(35:20):
get more.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
You know.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
Totally yeah, no, totally get all that.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
It is just funny to sort of see the disconnect
between like totally on brand for something you would expect
Dan Campbell to say, Yeah, you have other guys like
Sean McVay and Matt Lafleur which are like, dude, come on,
We're spending hours designing these offensive Yeah, exactly, this isn't football,
all right, we can wrap up with this. The ravens
(35:44):
Lamar Jackson two regular season MVPs, but he's come up
a little short in the playoffs. Well, Raven's owner Steed Bashadi.
He backs up his superstar quarterback, but it does hint
at a little bit of a sense of urgency. He said,
impatience is good for you. I want to win now.
We've got a window with Lamar, and I know what.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
We can do.
Speaker 5 (36:03):
So's looking to get over that postseason hub.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Covino makes fun of me Ryan all the time. Coveno
makes fun of me because for years one of my
overly used catchrases. Is little windows, he say, because it's true.
When you have your star players in place and you
have the cap in order, you have a window of opportunity. Window.
But it is a little window, a little window the
bar because that team is stating open forever, the windows
(36:26):
open a little longer. But you can't just fall short
two three, four, five years in our own and think, oh,
it's always going to be there. It's not. This is simple,
the simple statement right there there you go, thank you
for the Herdline news.
Speaker 6 (36:40):
Well that's the.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
News, and thanks for stopping.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
By the herd Line news.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
All right, So the number again is eight seven seven
four eight four thirty four thirty seven Cavino and rich
In for Colin on the Herd. Whose stock are you buying? Now?
I know you don't want to talk real stocks, but
you know who are you buying? And who? How hoop?
Allow other things you think about when it comes to
players in basketball, football, baseball. I have a few more
(37:08):
examples plus forgiveness and how much do you trust your kids?
And what would the world look like if we all
trusted our kids a little more. There's a couple stories
out of the NFL with kids of owners and coaches.
We'll explain it's all coming up. Covino and rich In
for Colin on the Heart.
Speaker 6 (37:25):

Covino and Rich. When you hear this sample, do you
think of Blue Cantrell in the two thousands? No, I
think of em and m what's the difference between me
(38:34):
and You're X to the z's got? It's been used
many times. I think, h yeah, I think what's the
difference between me and you? Me and you? I'm the
cool one, rich, isn't That's the difference. Da Blue Cantrell
was not cool enough for you. That was a big
song in the two thousands. Sorry, Cavino the coolest gun
in town and rich In for Colin on the Herd.
(38:56):
Very tough to do a show at Cavino every day
for a decade, a couple decades now when he's so
damn cool. That's right. Eight seven seven for the Herd
match Yankees hat with your jacket. Halls are wearing an
away Yankees hat because they're playing the Pirates on the team.
You know that, right. You gotta coordinate, man, You gotta
put some thought into things. Always a pleasure to be
(39:16):
here at Covino and Rich. If you want to check
us out, we're gonna be playing a game later on,
giving away prizes, basically trying to bribe you to check
out our show two to four on the West, five
to seven on the East, or anytime on the podcast.
Just search Covino and Rich, CoV I n O Covino
and Rich. So again, buying low. Let me give you
(39:37):
my final answer here. You're not gonna like it, but
I'm gonna give it anyway, because you and I agree
when it comes to buying low, right, who bought low?
Who you buying? When it comes to stocks in the
world of sports, you and I agree on Russell Wilson.
We both said it like two nerds at the same time. Yeah,
Russell Wilson and Danny g put it perfectly. You're getting
(39:57):
him and Winston for the price of Jones. I think
they did a great job there, or less. You're getting
for significantly less. So I think that Russell Wilson could
very well be the number one answer. And we brought
this up because again the stock market for the second
day in a row, or tariffs, you know, things are
going down. The pooper and they'll rebound. Everything will be
(40:19):
good eventually, I hope. But now now as everyone looks
with that mindset of who should I buy low, things
are bad in the NFL, in the NBA, in Major
League Baseball. There are some teams that take a guy
like right now, it would be risky as could possibly
be based on the guy's personality. But are you guys
all shocked that no one's taking the bait on Trevor
(40:41):
Bauer or is there just too much he got in court?
There's a great picture. But even before all that, you know,
everybody in the club, the way he had, that reputation,
nobody wants to deal with that. There's there's a sense
of he was never found guilty or convicted of anything. Well,
it came down to he likes rough sex and that's
(41:03):
not necessarily a crime if it's consensual. He's what it
came down to. And even though he may be innocent
from that standpoint, he's still an a hole. So no
one wants to deal with it, and no one wants
to deal with that stigma that comes with But what
I'm saying is there are guys that have, you know,
committed crimes, have done things that are questionable as far
(41:24):
as assault, as far as things with women that are despicable,
and guess what they find themselves on team. So I'm
just saying, based on all of that, well, let me
ask you, would you want him on your team? He's
too much of a destruction regardless, But I feel like
he's the guy that would be a top end rotation
guy that you could probably get for like two mil.
(41:45):
I won't deny that, you know, if you're having a
conversation about and why we do like come back stories
and second chances. I just think that he still leans
into being a jerkface, right, So maybe if he showed
a little more remorse, uh, someone would give him a chance.
But you're right, the stock slow, you might want to
look into it. My answer was a pretty simple one,
(42:06):
and it's Harrison Bader just knowing his potential and knowing
what he's capable of and knowing that the dude could ball.
He plays a mean outfield, he's got some pop, and
I'm seeing already what he's gonna do with the Twins.
He had a letdown year with the Mets last year,
but again that's in New York. He's playing Minnesota less pressure,
three home runs. He was a good clubhouse guy, good
(42:27):
clubhouse guy, and he really gave up nothing for him.
So I think it's a sweet move for the twins, right,
look at your thoughts at Covin and Rich. Always a
pleasure to fill in for Colin on the Herd. We
got more next. We're going to talk about the NFL
and do you trust your kids? I'll explain it's a
lot of fun all next right here,
