Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Welcome in hour two. It's a Wednesday live in Los Angeles.
It's The Herd. Wherever you may be and however you
may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day.
Jay Mac, we were talking about this with Hard Knocks,
So the new Hard Knocks has the Bears. The first
Hard Knocks was a Giants and there are moments in
life that you just have to be prepared for. And
when John Mara came in and Joe Shane the general manager,

(00:50):
and asked him about Saquon Barkley, and you have those
cameras and it's like, dude, if your owner comes in,
you've got to have answers. If I meet once a
year with Lachlan Murdock at Fox, I'm buttoned up. Yeah
I'm not just hey, I'm an art cocktail. You go
to dinner with a boss. Look them in the eye.
If you have a message, make sure you listen. Like

(01:11):
there are these moments that are just more important than
other moments, right, And they always say for the quarterback,
it's that Wednesday press conference. They have the bank behind you.
You have Philadelphia Eagles Century Bank. You don't have that
in the locker room. You have a four million dollar
sponsor behind you, maybe the biggest sponsor, a bank that
the organization has. That the owner has his favorite sponsor.

(01:34):
He takes that bank ceo to dinner a couple of
times that bank ceo gets access to the locker room
occasionally that Wednesday press or. You're representing not just you,
the bank, the team, the owner, the whole thing. And
these dummies out there that argue, eh, just go with
your hat backwards, spitball and start fires. It's not it.

(01:56):
And this comes from general managers I've talked to. Baker
Mayfield was good enough. They moved Aim out of Cleveland
because he kept starting fires. It wasn't because he couldn't play.
They didn't decide. They didn't sign Deshan Watson to do
a terrible guaranteed contract because they wanted to. It was
the Wednesday presser and the fires starting. And so when

(02:16):
you're a coach, think about this. I want you to
think about this. So you're a football coach and you
just got an NFL head job, best jobs in the
world in sports, NFL head coach, thirty two of them.
And you have a day as you fly the owner's
private jet to that city. You've got a day. You
tell your wife, let's start looking for homes and schools.

(02:38):
And you sit there and you make some calls for
staff building. But you you got to prepare speech. Now
it's only going to be about five minute speech, seven
minute speech. Then you'll take questions. But it does matter.
That is one of those moments in life, like meeting
the CEO at your company twice a year. Have your

(02:58):
crap button up, don't be.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
So.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
When Sean mcvay's press conference, he was thirty years old.
I mean, it's hard to find thirty year olds on staffs.
It's hard to find a thirty year old college coach,
not with the richest owner in the NFL. Stan Cronkey.
Remember Sean mcvay's opening press conference.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Our character will be the foundation and it'll be the
glue that holds us together as an organization. We're gonna
be committed to our process, and we're gonna be committed
to a standard of performance, and those things are gonna
be focused on daily improvement and daily excellence, and that's
what's gonna help guide us on our journey to try

(03:41):
to achieve a world championship and bring it to this
great city of Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
No teleprompter, totally precise and buttoned up. And that's what
his teams are. Now. I did make fun of Dan
Campbell's presser, but he had a plan and his team
has become exactly what Dan Campbell promised us it would be.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
We're gonna kick you in the teeth, all right, and
when you punch us back, we're gonna smile at you.
And when you knock us down, we're gonna get up.
And on the way up, we're gonna buy a kneecap off,
all right, and we're gonna stand up, and then it's
gonna take two more shots to knock us down, all right.
And on the way up, we're gonna take your other
kneecap and we're gonna get up, and then it's gonna
take three shots to get us down. And when we do,
we're gonna take another hank out of you before before long,

(04:31):
where they're gonna be the last one standing a little.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Over the top. But that is precisely what the Lions are.
One of the most relentless physical teams in the league.
They'll draft the linebacker in a running back first round.
They don't care, they don't care. They're doing it their way,
their ways winning. But I was critical of Nick Seriani

(04:55):
because when he got the job, I called to sources,
they said, not ready. A story emerges today from ESPN
with multiple sources he and Jalen Hurts. Jalen Hurts does
not respect his ex'es and o's what I was told,
and he's losing respect and they don't get along and
he not well liked, and we've watched him yell at fans,

(05:16):
but remember his opening press conference.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Next thing that's very important to me is that we
build a smart football team. That we have a smart
football team here, and I know we have the people
in place to do that. The first part of that,
the first part of being smart is knowing.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
What to do.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
We're gonna we're gonna know, we're gonna have systems in
place that are easier to learn, all right, complicated to
the defense or offense that they're going against, or the
special teams group they're going against, but easy for us
to learn because when we can put that, because when
we can learn our system and we can get good
at our system, then our talent can take over.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Okay, now I'm exhausted. I don't know what the hell
that is that makes JD. Vamp sound like Shakespeare. I
can't take it.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
What is going on?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And that's what the team is? When he lost his
two coordinators? What the hell am I watching? What do
they do well? It matters, knuckleheads. You're gonna have moments
in your life when you got to nail it, when
you got to hit it, when you gotta be great.
There's not a lot of them, thank god, but those
opening press conferences Sean McVay Demko Ryans, You're like, I

(06:29):
am guy, button up. I mean, I'm in TV. I
can talk all day long. That's what I do. I
don't have a teleprompter, but this is what I'm trained for.
Coaches aren't trained for that. And I'm not saying everybody
that's slick behind a mic makes a great coach. But
the story that emerges today is a little over his head,

(06:52):
a little overwhelmed. Jalen Hurts doesn't like being alone with him.
I'm just saying same thing I say about Wednesday press
conferences for quarterbacks, especially young ones. You got that seven
million dollars a year bank sponsorship signed behind you. It's
the one press conference of the week that Fox and
ESPN we all run because half the time the locker

(07:14):
room stuff, you can't make it out. The audio is terrible.
But that Wednesday one, that's the one everybody uses. Look
the part, be the part, speak the part, look into
the camera, be smart, don't be argumentative, diffuse, not ignite
saying I know you think I'm a mean guy, But

(07:34):
it's this story. This, this, this is what I heard
when he got hired. And then I watched the presser
and I'm like, this guy's doesn't know where he's going.
Now you're finding out some of this stuff is like real,
and Jalen Hurts is spawning it. Jalen Hurts, who comes
from I mean, Jalen Hurts comes from Nick saban and
Lincoln Riley. Who can control a press conference. Nobody controls

(07:57):
a press conference like Nick sabd, like he and McVeigh
at a different standard. Tomlin's great too, by the way,
but Lincoln Riley couldn't get a little snippy, but he
can control press conference. Then you move into that. You
can't blame Jalen Hurts for going on. What's going on here,
Rachel Nichols. She is in Paris for the Olympics. What
a plumb assignment? Is that? What a great? I mean,

(08:21):
God lord, we're out here banging around.

Speaker 6 (08:24):
I can bring you back up again. I can bring
you back some wine. When are we talking here, Caylin?
What do you mean me to do?

Speaker 1 (08:30):
That is great? I was saying earlier that I thought
this was the competition was great. But the intensity, the
focus of our American players, it's been impressive, Like right,
like the games weren't supposed to be this ugly, were they?

Speaker 6 (08:47):
Yeah? I mean, look again, they haven't played. We'll see
a lot from what happens against Serbia. That's one of
the big lights that they're playing in the biggest stage
in the medal round where it counts it and maybe
that'll be a tougher massatchup I would expect it to be.
But yeah, absolutely, the way this team has drilled down
the way, particularly Lebron James has drilled down. We expected
it from him, just because he's been exceptional and everything

(09:09):
he does we've seen him play this past year, we
knew that being thirty nine years old was not exactly
a hindrance the way it would be for other players.
You know, there's the country song that goes, I'm not
as good as I once was, but I'm as good
once as I ever was. And I think that that's
true of Lebron these days for sure, is that when
he wants to, when he knows this the moment to
turn it on, he can do everything he has always

(09:31):
been able to do. He has the full package available
to him. Not all the time anymore, but enough of
the time. And this is one of those times. If
you put him under true serum, would he say that
he thinks this is his last chance to win a
title on a major stage of anything. I don't know.
Maybe he believes he can do that with the Lakers
in the next couple of years, but he knows he
has the chance to do it right now. You are

(09:52):
seeing that focus that is translated from the rep to
the rest of the team from day one. I just
spent the afternoon today Colin with Grant Hill and he said,
from the day started to practice in Las Vegas, has Lebron,
who's been setting the tone for everyone's saying this is serious.
We you have to dominate, you know.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
I think it's fitting and it makes me happy that
k D becomes the all time leading score because he's
made some choices in his career I didn't love in
terms of where he's playing. Sometimes he's been great, sometimes not.
It didn't fit as well. But if his career ended
after these Olympics and you said, you know how the

(10:28):
all time leading scorer is on the Olympics, it's Kevin Durant,
players would go, yeah, Yeah, it's Kevin Durant. I think
it means a lot for him. I don't know how
he thinks of it, but how is it viewed by
the players.

Speaker 6 (10:42):
I think it means a tremendous amount to Kevin and
I think you're dead on as usual with his whole
career has been super incredibly impressive. I mean time condenses things,
and when we look back twenty years from now that
the numbers Kevin Durant will have put up at the
titles he won at the Gold medals he won. I
think that his old resume is going to create a
different feeling than some people have about him right now

(11:04):
in the middle of it, in the talk show era,
in this moment. But the gold medals are an important
part of it. Being the leading all time US score
is a part of it. And I think to have
a guy who maybe hasn't everything worked out to the
full extent his talent might have allowed, and everything worked
out quite as he had hoped in different cities to
be able to do this, to have this go right,
it's so important for him and just really a statement

(11:26):
to how his game translates. He is better than everyone
else on the court when he is on the court
an international play. It is true on this amazing, elite,
incredible team, and it is true globally, and it is
a psyche to see.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
You know this is and I know this is hard.
This is kind of speculation, but generally in the Olympics
you'll have relationships that are formed that you know, guys
just past each other in the night. I mean, yeah,
you don't even have time after games, Rachel, as you've
covered the NBA forever, you're on a plane. You don't
have time for dinner together, like it's all off season stuff.
But I have this feeling with this Olympic team. Have

(12:00):
there been a couple of relationships where you're like, I
mean you're over there, like that's interesting, they're like friends.

Speaker 6 (12:08):
Yeah, No, I mean I think it's going to be
very interesting. You guys are playing with each other, so
they get to see how they mesh and fit for
a possible alliance down the road as free agents, maybe
together in the NBA. They're spending time together, they see
who they want to hang out with. I keep an
eye on Devin Booker and who he's talking to because
he's working out with Jason Tatum a lot. He's hanging

(12:29):
out with bam Adebayo a lot. He's such a connector.
He's a laid back, easygoing personality. Guys like him. He's
just a cool guy to hang around with. He loves cars.
I mean, he's just got a lot of fun interest
to talk about with other players. He plays video games,
and I would just keep an eye on him and
who you see him talking to on the bench and
things like that, because who knows that could be a
prelude to down the road in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Anthony Edwards. His game is great. It's a sending not
always perfectly refined, but that's okay. He came into this
league as like twenty year old kid, kind of take
me to all these aging stars. You get to be
at practice, you got to see all this stuff. How's
Anthony Edwards? How's ant fit into all this stuff?

Speaker 6 (13:11):
I mean, he lights up every room he's in, right,
I mean, it's incredible what we see, you know, and
I see when I'm talking to the locker room, what
you guys see on TV. You know, that's real in
the room, and in a constellation of stars like they
have on Team USA, to be the one lighting up
the room is pretty exceptional. His confidence remains so high
even in this group. You know, we saw it during
the playoffs. We saw the talk he was talking with Minnesota,

(13:33):
and you thought maybe when he got around this group
of guys, some of that would be toned down. We
saw right away in trading camp it wasn't what he
declared himself the number one option. And when I was
talking to Steve Kerr about this Serbia game, he said, look,
we have appropriate fear of Serbia. Every single guy on
our team would probably tell you and he's talking about
even Lebron James or Kevin Durant or Steph Curry would
tell you that nikolaie Jokic is the best basketball player

(13:56):
on Earth right now. And I said, would Anthony Edwards
say that. He's said no, No, he would not. So
Anthony's confidence has not build even a little bit. And
I think he's doing so well here in this environment
because he's a sponge. The thing about ant Is, and
you've seen this so much Colin, is that he has
all of the bravado, but he's also willing to learn

(14:18):
and acknowledge who his heroes are and who might be
better than him. And he's just got a great sense
of how it all fits together. And I think he's
going to come out of this and even better player
than we saw him go into it.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Finally, I know you're in Paris, which is amazing. You
always get the plumb assignment. JJ Reddick has now filled
out the staff. I thought it was a pretty good
I thought it was a pretty good staff. Your thoughts
are pretty good, right, Yeah, I agree, I thought it
was good. Nate McMillan is on the stot.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
Yeah, No, I think I think Look, I think Statty
Brooks is underrated, so I'm thrilled to see him back
sort of doing this kind of thing in this bright environment.
Nate McMillan, you know, parted ways under circumstances that had
with the Hawks that had more to do with the
personality conflict than almost anything else. So there's there's a
lot of factors here that ended these two guys where
they are to be the lead assistance on Reddick's staff,
and I think they're going to be a great fit

(15:06):
in LA because they can talk to JJ about some
of the really big picture of things like how you
manage minutes or how you manage certain situations that JJ
hasn't been in. But they can also talk to him
about the really simple little things like hey, this is
the best time to have a meeting pregame because JJ
has never had to think about that or plan that
out before. There's so many little, pretty things about being

(15:27):
a head coach that if you've just never done them before,
that they've become bigger obstacles than they should have to be.
So the fact that he's got these really experienced guys
at his side, I think are going to make a
big difference. I love them bringing Lindsay harding In. I
think she's going to be a real bright light and
fresh voice on this staff and can obviously help them
with development, having come from the G League and having
been the G League Coach of the Year. So I

(15:48):
think that they are making smart, smart moves all the
way up and down with this coaching staff. It's still
going to have to come down to what happens when
the games start and when Lebron James and Anthony Edwards
look across the court at JJ. Do they have confidence
that he knows what he's doing? Do they want to
do what he wants to do or is it like
what you were just talking about in the story before
I came on. Are they like eh, I don't know.

(16:09):
I'm not sure I have confidence in all of his verbiage.
I'm not to have confidence on all the places that
he's putting together. So I think that is what's going
to make the difference in the end. Having the right
people around you should help with that difference, but it's
not going to be the main thing.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Great, Sanya, you look happy and joyful. I will say
that four or five days ago because my daughter speaks
a little French and she went to the Olympics. Yeah,
four or five days ago, I downloaded Duo Lingo app
and I started taking French lessons for forty five minutes
every day. Don't ask me a question. I'm it's very
ugly right now. But maybe because of your history of

(16:44):
going overseas, we could have a conversation some point over
a coffee and I could Jaswie Colin, you know, and
maybe I cannot know.

Speaker 6 (16:54):
We'll work it out. Well, you have to the next
Olympics is in Italy, so maybe you should switch to Italian.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
I'm just saying, just saying, great seeing you. Nice job
as always. All right, all right, Rachel Nichols, I thought
j Mack I told you that? Did I tell you that?
Last night? Is it? I downloaded due link. My daughter
speaks a little French, and I thought, wouldn't that be
a nice present for my daughter? But I couldn't hold
a secret. I can never hold a secret, so I
told my daughter. So I think I'm on day five
or six of I do forty five minutes when I

(17:21):
wake up every morning on.

Speaker 7 (17:22):
Doing that's intense. Have you tried just you know, with
the FaceTime? You know, I mean, I gotta admit I.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Like, I literally have to write down certain things and
memorize them because I get very impatient. So I've gone
five or six days. I've done it this morning. We
went out last night, so I didn't have.

Speaker 7 (17:38):
You know, so, uh, which language do you think sounds
cool on women?

Speaker 8 (17:44):
The British accent?

Speaker 9 (17:45):
No?

Speaker 1 (17:46):
No, what do you think if you think that sounds attractive?

Speaker 8 (17:50):
I think it's so hot on women.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
I don't know you're saying when women speak obviously, Yeah, yeah,
I think I think also women speaking French is just
so nice, like restaurants. My son speaks a little German,
but it sounds so hard.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Ah, it's like you have phlem but women that speak
have a British accent, Australian accent, or French. Old sold
one more Heard.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
The Herd streams twenty four hours a day, seven days
a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd to listen
live or on demand whenever you like.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Oh, we got so many things going on today. You know,
I got to say this about Kevin Durant. Rachel Nichols
and I were talking. She was talking about Kevin Durant
and he's now become the leading scorer for team Usa,
and I will say this is that some of his
decision making through the years, leaving the Warriors for Brooklyn
I thought was wonky and weird, but this cements his legacy.
K D is at its very best and this is

(18:52):
not as easy as it sounds. Kevin Durant is at
his very best playing with other great players. He doesn't
have to lead, he doesn't have to elevate that go
get a basket. My friend Mark Few, who's an assistant
on this team and has been for years, years ago,
I asked him about the experience, what's it like being

(19:12):
with all those great players. His response was KD man,
that's something. Jason Tatum can disappear around other great players,
and Bed doesn't fit. Steph has to adjust. Lebrono as
leads KD seamlessly. I mean with the Warriors, there were
questions is he gonna get enough shots? Is it going

(19:36):
to work? And not only worked to Adam Silver and
Adam Silver and David Stern, the late David Stern New
Dynasties are good for the league, very appealing. Adam Silver
knows that too, but it was so lobsided when he
went to the Warriors, who won before he got there
that Adam Silver said it hurts competitive balance even with
a team with the best shooting backcourt of all time

(19:56):
Stephan Clay Splash Brothers, and that was my take. It's like,
is he going to disrupt that? That chemistry is unbelievable.
He's an outsider, I mean Draymond Steph Clay like, he's
an outsider. He was on the Rivals Seamless Dude Average
year one. He averaged twenty nine points on eighteen shots,
shot forty four percent from three at about fifty five
percent field goals. No, he worked. It was unbelievable. It

(20:19):
was impeccable. And so KD is sort of salt to
a chef. It enhances the flavor of everything else on
the plate. Everything salt works with dessert. Carmel, it works
with everything, and chefs at their disposal make every salt
works with everything. KD works. The better the players, the

(20:41):
better the fit. Carmelo Anthony like like struggled, Joannison. Dame
is clunky. Luca couldn't play with Jalen Brunson. You could
put Katie. He won with Westbrook, he won with Steph.
The Brooklyn situation was different though, because in Brooklyn. He
was asked to sort of be the centerpiece. He's the
leader of it. That's not what he does that, that's

(21:05):
not necessarily what KD does. He is much more diplomat
than president, much more secretary of State than president. Lebron's
the president, everything's going to go through him. Chris Paul's
got that vibe. Everything's going to go through me. That's
and you don't have to be a prolific score to
do that. But with Kevin Durant. And I think it's
cool because I like when you can say, when you

(21:29):
cement your legacy, right, like Michael Jordan, Clutch, relentless, unstoppable, Lebron, durable, last, forever,
great Swiss Army Knife, Magic Johnson, could play any position,
elevated everybody. And then like Kevin Durant, thirty years from now,
you're gonna go, who's the all time Olympic leading scorer

(21:50):
and you'll say Kevin Durant, not Jordan, not Steph, not Lebron, No, no, no,
Kevin Durant, all timely things cart Yeah, And that's what
he is. His legacy is it doesn't matter where who
the coaches, as long as you don't ask him to
lead and be the centerpiece of that. And that's not

(22:11):
a criticism. Derek Jeter better leader than a rod It's
not a criticism. Not everybody's built for that. But get
a shot, get a basket, play well with others, not
got insecure. He made Westbrook, he made that work. He
made everything work, and that's his legacy. Everything works with

(22:34):
kd Just go let him hoop Jmack with the news.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
No, no turn, this is the herd Line news.

Speaker 8 (22:44):
We think so much a lot.

Speaker 7 (22:45):
I said on my podcast that like, yeah, Kevin Dury,
don't have to be a leader, just show up and
get buckets. Perfect setting for him, right, went to Golden State. Hey,
Steph Curry and Dramond, this is your team. I'll just
show up and score.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well, look at Lebron's easy, Lebron's personality, husband, father, Right.

Speaker 8 (23:03):
So's the alpha in Paris at the Olympics.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
No, that's right, he's the leader. He's that's Lebron. Kd
though is the Hey, we need a bucket, like now,
even Lebron. Lebron's not the leading scorer over there. Lebron's
not getting the leading score in the Olympics. And by
the way, Lebron. Part of his gift is he's secure
enough that he doesn't have to take the final shot.
For years, Lebron was criticized because he wouldn't take the

(23:25):
final shot. No, he was secure enough that he didn't
know us have to be the final bucket getter. That's
like he didn't have to project constantly I'm the man.
He was the man without having to tell you comes.
These Olympics have really helped KD.

Speaker 7 (23:38):
I think I think a lot and I think Lebron
a lot of people who have been on the fence
in the Lebron Jordan debate. I've been saying, listen, this
should obviously push Lebron past Jordan. For anybody's still waffling, like,
look what he's doing at thirty nine. He's been the
best player at the Olympics, not just the US, the
entire Olympics.

Speaker 8 (23:54):
Better than better than Jokich.

Speaker 7 (23:56):
Joki's been good, but Lebron has been I mean, unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (23:59):
I can't wait for that matchup.

Speaker 7 (24:00):
Anyways, Let's get to Ceeddee Lamb who continues to hold
out for the Cowboys uh waiting for his new deal.
Dak Prescott is is practicing while waiting for his new
deal too, and reveals that he spoke to his teammate recently.
Dak said he knows CD is ready to get back
to Dallas, but is still grinding and working while away

(24:21):
from the team, Colin dj Moore recently got a deal
four for one hundred and ten mil eighty two mil.
Guarantee CD is gonna want more than he's gonna want
more than that. Yeah, he's gonna considerably more or well,
dj Moore is part of a really really potentially very
good offense for the Bears.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Ceedee Lamb twist and ankle. They don't have a gonna
lead anything. Yeah to me, Ceedee Lamb's got major lever again,
dj Moore, romadnze Keenan Allen.

Speaker 8 (24:53):
Look at the quarterbacks he's played with. I mean, nobody
remotely good.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
I know you're not huge on Dak, but Dak has
been better than any quarterback with.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Who Amari Cooper was with that no I met a.

Speaker 7 (25:03):
Wide receiver for uh, you know, as a wide receiver.

Speaker 8 (25:07):
DJ Moore hasn't played with any good quarterbacks. Ceede Lamb.
Playing with Dak Prescott, he's good.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Oh, I think he's actually Yeah, he's.

Speaker 7 (25:12):
Like a top twelve quarterback. So I don't I know
people aren't gonna like this. I don't think Lamb is
that much better than DJ Moore, Like.

Speaker 8 (25:20):
Not like thirty five MILLI a year. DJ Moore is
are like twenty seven and a half milk.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Yeah, no, I think I think Ceedee Lamb's better, but
not a ton better, but he's better. Who's the best
Ceedee Lamb, Ayuk or DJ Moore? That's very close. I
think I'd go Ayyuk seed now not just production. You
got you number. Well, I think Ayuk stronger. Oh that's
a major pro. I think Ayuk is stronger, Soyuk third. No,

(25:47):
I think I'm I'm projecting what I think he'll be.

Speaker 8 (25:52):
I would have gone Lamb more.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
I you remember, Ayuk's numbers aren't going to be as
good because the other guys don't play with Deebo, Samuel,
George Kittle and Christian they're counting every game. And yeah,
it can't be just numbers because sometimes Brandon Ayuk is
the fourth option on a play. DJ Moore is the
first option. Ceedee Lamb's the first option. So you can't
just you have to contect shows.

Speaker 8 (26:12):
It's a fine fine. You know what, let's find out.
How good are you? Kissed? Goby the number one option
in New England?

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Oh, he would be.

Speaker 8 (26:18):
Let' see how that works out.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Now you wouldn't get the ball money?

Speaker 8 (26:20):
Oh really well? Dj Moore got the ball in Carolina
and in Chicago.

Speaker 7 (26:23):
Like, I don't this Lamb situation at some point, it's
got to get to troubling, right. I know he can
just go in and smoothly transition, but just the vibes
don't seem good in Dallas.

Speaker 8 (26:34):
Next up, Oh, here we go. Another holdout.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
Hassan Reddick still waiting to get that deal from the Jets.
The fines are stacking up for him, over one million
dollars in fines after missing mandatory minute camp and fifteen.

Speaker 8 (26:47):
Days of training camp.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
Reddick wants a new deal after the trade from the Eagles,
and the Jets offered him an extension back when the
trade was made.

Speaker 8 (26:55):
He rejected it.

Speaker 7 (26:57):
Now the fines can easily be wiped out, as you've seen. Hey,
you agree to a deal will wipe out the fines.
You know that we've seen that done in the past
with Reddick. Colin, I think it's safe to say that
Jets have the best front seven in the NFL. When
you have the Hassan Reddick signed, Quentin Williams, that pass rush,
the kid McDonald ot of Iowa State and looking amazing,

(27:19):
but CJ.

Speaker 8 (27:20):
Mosley really elite linebacker.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Chargers have Khalil Mack and Bosa.

Speaker 7 (27:24):
Yeah, they can't stop the run to save their life.
I'm just telling you this Jets defense there so good.
You have Quinn Williams right now and that's it.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Stop yea.

Speaker 8 (27:37):
When you add Reddick to this.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
To this becomes in out of shape and puppy.

Speaker 8 (27:41):
Well maybe we're outsiding it to Ian.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
I hope he comes in shape.

Speaker 8 (27:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
He's always been a very good big play player, like
in a big third down like he sometimes I feel
like he waits for the moment, but he's really good.

Speaker 8 (27:55):
Can I say, poor man von Miller, you just throw
von Miller in there?

Speaker 3 (27:58):
He Redick.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
I feel like he's one of those guys that can.
He kind of seizes the moment like he knows when
it's a big play. Some Max Crosby plays unblockable, TJ. Watt,
every player. I feel like they're just relentless. Bosa with
the Niners, I think sometimes with Hassan. I feel like
he he kind of seizes. He's a seize the moment player.
Now numbers may say I'm wrong on that, but that's

(28:19):
what it feels like.

Speaker 7 (28:20):
I remember he was playing alongside Fletcher Cox. Now he
plays alongside Quinn Williams. I'm just telling you. Once he's
in camp, lock it up. Final story in the NBA,
we have a signing lowry marketing.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
Are you ready for this?

Speaker 7 (28:31):
Got a five year, two hundred and thirty eight million
dollar extension with the Utah Jazz. He got two hundred
and twenty million dollars in new money.

Speaker 8 (28:41):
We're talking about lowry marketing.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Colin Well, he is an aackery. Well, he's been a
great score his whole career.

Speaker 8 (28:49):
Well, listen, he's a very nice player.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
He should be the third best player on a championship team.

Speaker 7 (28:54):
Well, at that second, the third hate nobody bring it
in to be the third.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Well, remember Utah. Let me defend you, Tom.

Speaker 8 (29:00):
I'm gonna I have to hear this.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
It is not like the Green Bay Packers a very
strong free agent market, so you sign your stars. They're
not going out there and getting guy. That's why they
brought d weighted in the ownership group. They wanted to
be cooler. They want to have a chance. The Packers
draft develop, Their free agent sidings are under the radar.
But the reason the Packers draft and develop so well

(29:23):
is they know they have to right like they have
to Rams miss on, somebody people want to play for McVeigh.
So that the Jazz are saying, basically, what can we
get on the market that's significantly better in the free
agent market. Guys, don't wake up one. I mean, I
love Salt Lake, I love Utah. Obviously you're mister Utah.
So my take is this is the right move. He's

(29:43):
your guy, sign your guy.

Speaker 7 (29:45):
So you're signing him to a massive deal, two hundred
and thirty eight million dollar extension. And his teammates John Collins,
Colin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, this is the fourteenth, thirteenth best team.

Speaker 8 (29:57):
In the West.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Well, what are you paid him for?

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Did you just trade him?

Speaker 8 (30:01):
Get a boatload of picks?

Speaker 1 (30:02):
Because he gives you got greedy? What what he gives
you twenty three a night?

Speaker 7 (30:06):
What's you're losing sixty games?

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Well, because it's one of the youngest teams in the league.

Speaker 8 (30:12):
They do I want to see the young guys, so
trot him out.

Speaker 7 (30:14):
This would have been a perfect team to tank for
Cooper fly trade Lowry Market and get a bunch of picks.

Speaker 8 (30:20):
And then you're playing all your young guys.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
And I think they're too good to tank. They're gonna
win some games. Wow, give me that starting five again.

Speaker 8 (30:29):
I don't think you want to hear I want to
hear it again. So it's Colin's sexty.

Speaker 7 (30:32):
He's okay, John Collins, Lowry Marketing, Jordan Clarkson.

Speaker 8 (30:37):
That's okay. You like that group.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
I don't like it. I'm saying is this is a
rebuild that started like three years ago. They're accumulating picks.
This is the first guy They're like, what are we
going to get on the market that's better than twenty
three or twenty four a night? He probably maybe he
loves living in Utah, his family loves it. He's committed
to the organization.

Speaker 7 (30:55):
So best case scenario, he's like a Pascal Siakam and
they find their Halliburton in the draft and.

Speaker 8 (31:00):
Boom, all of a sudden, you got a foundation.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
I love Pascal siak He's ever excellent player. Excellent player.
That's a good comp They have different games. But Pascal
Siakam is a is a he's a score. Well, he
was a two on a championship team with Kawhi.

Speaker 8 (31:16):
They had they have lowry on.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Yeah, but he was the two.

Speaker 6 (31:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
So Marknon is probably a three on a title team.
But I mean like a.

Speaker 8 (31:24):
Strong three, high level one. He could be a two.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
He might not win the chip, but yeah, I mean
he's not. Yeah, I mean he's to me, he's a three.
But it's if I get what is the average twenty three.

Speaker 8 (31:34):
And twenty three, twenty four?

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Yeah, I mean he gives she's every time I watch
the jazz plants like you're getting well.

Speaker 8 (31:38):
Is it because he's good or somebody's got a score?

Speaker 6 (31:40):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (31:41):
God again, I get.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
A whole career.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Is it good or somebody? I got news for you.
There's guys on the Lakers, they need more points from them.
They can't score.

Speaker 7 (31:51):
So Kevin Love remember in Minnesota, stack in number twenty
six and fifty and they couldn't do anything. So then
he goes to the Calves. He was their number three,
right and won a title. That is probably I don't I.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Think Kevin Love is better than market.

Speaker 8 (32:06):
Yes, and head of the height of his powers, and.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
He's all first ballot Hall of Famer. I think Kevin
loves and the Chris Bosh really really all time.

Speaker 8 (32:13):
Really it could be like a notch.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Below, but I mean twenty four a night, dude. And
by the way, the NBA is getting bigger. He's got
size a big dude.

Speaker 8 (32:22):
Yeah, I like his skill sets.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
That done and you've done them completely. J Mack with
the news.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the line.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
I will defend LORI markeden to the edges of the Earth. Guy.
If a guy averages twenty four a night in the league,
mostly zach Lavine doesn't count, but mostly I will defend
guys who average twenty four a night and they're not
disruptive or not ball hogs. You know, if they're healthy

(32:53):
and twenty four nights a lot of points. I mean,
if you take him off the Jazz, what do they score.
I just discovered recently the blue box of JLab headphones.
I'm hooked recent trip out East jay Buds, Lux over
ear noise canceling headphones, money Baby. Look for the blue
box at best Buy, Walmart, Target, or any airport. That's

(33:14):
where I found them JLab dot com. Check it out.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Two things last Night's good to see Clayton Kershaw again
getting out there. Not a bad outing at all for
Clayton Kershaw, who is basically in the history of the
Dodgers at Sandy Cofax. Fernando Oral Herschheiser Clayton Kershaw for
the best pictures of all time. Kershaw is still going
out there and giving you innings against the Phillies. Last
night and the second thing, there was an earthquake in
Los Angeles. It was more of a roller side to

(34:32):
side it was, and I have, for some whatever reasons,
I have slept. I've napped or slept through every earthquake
I've ever been in. There was one in college. I
didn't feel it. There's about two a year in LA
where it moves a little bit. I never feel them.
There was one on the air live here that I
definitely felt that that was a big roller. Last night's

(34:53):
was about five or six seconds five point two based
in Bakersfield, California, which is Kern County. That's out there some.
But it was a real thing. You could feel it,
and people were saying all over at Los Angeles, well
that was a real one. So I hope everything is
okay and property is okay. I see this the Patriots.

(35:13):
Brandon Nyuk didn't want to be part of the Patriots.
The Patriots said, we don't want any part of you.
It is interesting, though, is that the San Francisco forty
nine ers are sort of putting their foot down with
Brandon Nayuk they wanted, but there's a price. And the
young media tends to always say get the bag, and
they'll lecture you on player empowerment. Never forget. The weakest
players union in American sports is the NFL, and it's

(35:36):
by far and away the best league and the most
beloved because teams don't get trapped. If you're disruptive, even
if you're talented, Boom, you're gone. And that's the way
it should be. I mean in the NBA they had
to create an amnesty clause for about seven years because
people were, like New York was trying to get out
of awful contracts teams. In the NBA cave, there's really

(36:00):
no nuance to it. If you're a really good player,
you get a max and you get trapped. I mean,
lower market is a good player, but that contract. A
lot of people today are rolling their eyes at it.
It's newsworthy again. I think he fits for the Jazz,
but you're not doing that deal in the NFL, where
there's nuance points, production, chemistry. Are you valuable beyond just

(36:22):
being talented? Are you a team guy or you disruptive?
All that stuff matters, and so in baseball. I mean
in the NBA, every team has a bad contract, some
have two. In baseball, every team's got several bad contracts,
at least the teams that spend money. In the NFL,
it's hard to find a bad contract, and if it's bad,
you can get out from under it with one good draft.

(36:44):
To think about the NFL, Brandon and Ayuk is just
one of fifty three outside of quarterback. He's not worth
a point of game. He's one of fifty three. But
the second thing that really helps NBA owners and gms
in front office types is the draft. You can move
off guys. There's somebody in the draft that's often just
as good. And not only in the first round. I

(37:07):
mean in the NBA draft, you're out of players by
like historically by the sixteenth pick. Puka Nikua was a
fifth round pick. He looks like one of the best
receivers in the NFL. George Kittle, fifth round pick, Brock Purty,
last pick, Kurt Warner, undrafted, Antonio Gates, Hall of Famer undrafted,
Tony Romo undrafted. There's all sorts of talent, and that

(37:29):
makes every employee in the NFL a little more replaceable.
So it's the power. When everybody tries to compare the
NFL in the NBA, the NFL rolls their eyes at
the NBA. They don't want to be anything like the NBA,
where you get trapped, you're overpaying players. The players run
the league. Listen, I like working at Fox. They don't

(37:49):
want employees control in the company, and they shouldn't. I
have a small company. I want to control it. I
want my management team to control it. So this is
a situation where San Francisco is like, we really really
like but we're not going to cave. There's a number
hit it. I think he's going to sign. I think
all this talk is being leaked by the forty nine

(38:12):
ers and he's finding out that Jay McK you may
disagree with this. There's not a huge market the Patriots.
That one's over in Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
So there.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
And I don't think Amari Cooper is the fit. He'd
be productive to some level in San Francisco, but I
think Ayuke's a better fit. He's a better blocker. So
and I just don't think, you know, everybody, never forget
the NBA ratings. They may get their money. All these
sports hockey gets their money everybody gets money. NBA ratings
are tanking, so there is clearly a disconnect between the
public and the NBA. As women's basketball ratings go up,

(38:42):
Olympics go up, NFL goes up, college football goes up.
F One goes up, NBA down. And I think a
lot of it is there's this sense that teams get
trapped and the stars run the league. And you know,
I've said this before. I was told this by an
NBA coach. An NBA head coach is the worst great
job America. You have no control players. Basically, you have

(39:03):
to dictate when you can practice. It's a lot and
I think in the NFL you treat your players well.
I mean mcveigh's legendary, Mike Tomlin. They treat your players well,
but there are lines in the sand you can't cross.
Here's Kyle Shanahan this week on the Brand and I
you trade talk.

Speaker 11 (39:22):
It's been at this point for a little bit, so
it's nothing really new to me. I mean, you're always
disappointed when you can't keep ahold of all your players
or it's not going exactly right. I mean, I don't
like losing anybody, So that's why I'm hoping it does
work out here for right now, we don't have that
solved yet, so I hope it does.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Now, let me ask you, j Mac, the fact that
this's gotten out and there's all these details, what does
it tell you?

Speaker 7 (39:46):
So my theory is that the Niners just are banging
their head against the wall. Dude, you're not as good
as Justin Jefferson Jamart. Sorry, we're not going there, but
you know what, if you think you're worth it, we
will try to negotiate to do with the team.

Speaker 8 (39:58):
You guys, go talk to those teams.

Speaker 7 (40:01):
And see if they'll give you the money. And Iyuk
is slowly finding out ain't nobody giving him that money?
He's not getting thirty four million a year. I don't
think that's happening anywhere. And I just wonder if reality
sets in with him, because as we've seen, like.

Speaker 8 (40:13):
Player for player trades in the NFL, very rare. It
just doesn't happen a lot.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
Yeah you can do it, but it doesn't.

Speaker 8 (40:19):
So my guess is.

Speaker 7 (40:22):
I chucked his tail between his life, says okay, let's go,
let's go to a super Bowl. Then I'll get the
hell out of here after that, and he stays with
the Niners. That's my guess.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
Here's Nick Bosa of the Niners on IU can how
players feel about it.

Speaker 9 (40:34):
It's brutal, especially when you're here and you have that
extra pressure on you. I've talked to him a few
times just as a friend, but when it comes to
what's actually going on behind closed doors, I have no
knowledge or input. So it'll get worked out.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
What kind of loss would that be if he's not
on the State.

Speaker 9 (41:00):
I think it'd be huge. I trust John and Kyle.
But he's a very tough player to replace.

Speaker 1 (41:12):
Yeah, and I think all that stuff's true. I think
he's good, he's tough to replace. I don't think he's
a bad. Guy's young, he's temperamental a little bit, so
what but I but I think there are lines that
you have to be and the NBA everybody caves, NFL
they don't.

Speaker 8 (41:23):
How's that Raiders deal working out for DeVante Adams?

Speaker 1 (41:27):
Be careful what you wish for.

Speaker 8 (41:30):
Yeah, and he's been a failure.

Speaker 1 (41:32):
Well, he hasn't the team exactly.

Speaker 8 (41:35):
So are you go enjoy the Patriots seeing last place?

Speaker 6 (41:38):
Bell? Oh?

Speaker 1 (41:39):
Come on now, come on, Patriots stink this year. Come
on hour three next
