Speaker 1 (00:24):
Fifteen years in the NFL, multiple time Pro Bowler, Heisman
Winter College Hall of Famer, and now and now high
school football coach about to become high school football coaching legend.
His son's the quarterback and he is joining us now
live right now, Carson Palmer in his office right now,
(00:45):
around the clock. So you were at USC and then
all of a sudden, your first coach, Paul Hackett, doesn't work.
Here comes Pete Carroll. So you're a young guy. That
Raider roster's got a lot of young guys. What was
your first impress of Pete Carroll? You had a great year,
I mean you you Pete kind of took you to
(01:05):
New Heights. But give me your first impressions of Pete
and what really resonated with you.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Just the energy he brought to the program. Uh, you know,
there was.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
There was such a vision that was laid out in
front of us from the jump, and there was a
clear vision. He knew what he wanted, he knew what
he expected, We knew as players what to expect from
him and what he expected from us, which is just
at the end of the day, what you want. You know,
when when you're the Raiders, you just want some stability.
It has been a very unstable environment for a very
(01:41):
long time, and he instantly gives you that stability, that
that pro that that organization needs.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
And when you're coaching in high school and you've had
good coaches, you've there's been a lot of Got Bruce Arians,
Pete Carroll. What is the one thing you will take
from Pete as a coach, the one discipline on the
one culture cetter that you'll take from Pete.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
There's not There's not one thing. I had a chance
to spend, you know, five or six hours meeting with
Pete before I took this, this coaching job at Santa
Margari to high school, and I took I took twelve things.
I still am texting him asking him, you know certain things,
how to run this, how to do this. So he's
not a one thing guy. He doesn't do one thing well.
(02:27):
Brings tremendous energy, he's super mature. Uh, he's he's got success,
so he's got credibility.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
But the you know, the things that I look.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
And that I'm hanging my hat on, are you know,
there were simple rules, but Pete isn't you know a
ton of rules. You know, super disciplinarian. You know, there's
a handful of rules. They all make a lot of sense.
They're really easy to follow. And if you can't follow
those rules, then you probably shouldn't be on his team,
or really any team. But there's not one thing that
(02:57):
when I think back about my experience playing with him,
you know, I learned. I learned how to be a leader.
I learned how important it is to focus on the
ball and how important it is to go get the
ball on defense. He always talked about that, securing it,
never giving it away, and attacking it on defense. He
talked about respect, respect for your team, respect for the officials,
(03:19):
respect for your opponent. He was, he's he's the greatest
coach that I ever had the chance to play for.
He's a future Hall of Famer. He's everything you want
to coach and the Raiders organization. Uh, this is an
exciting day obviously for the future. You know, I know
it's a three year deal, maybe a four year deal,
but he's just he gives you instant credibility, stability, maturity,
(03:43):
and he's been there and done that, and and what
he did in Seattle was amazing, going from you know,
the Matt Hasselbeck, Sean Alexander creating the late Legion of Boom,
developing the legion Legion of Boom, being there long enough
to see those guys leave and move on, and then
still getting the playoffs, you know, with with Russell Wilson
at quarterback and Beast Mode in the backfield and really
(04:06):
reinventing that team after the Legion of Boom, you know,
to bringing along Geno Smith. I mean, I don't think
he gets the credit he deserves for the success and
the stability that he brought to Seattle.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
You played in a conference championship game, NFC championship game.
Go back to that moment. Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hurt's now
been in a couple Mahome's been in a lot. Josh
Allen's experience, Jaden Daniels, this is his first. That was
your first You tell me anxious, did you worry about
(04:41):
like being so amped up that can affect sort of
you know, your mechanics. Go back to your NFC Championship game.
What was it like.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Yeah, Jaden's got nothing to lose. I mean, he's playing
with house money, all the pressures on Philly. He's you know,
he's got all the hype. You know, everybody's gonna be
focused on him. The obviously, that entire defense, that entire stadium,
the energy is going to be electric. But man, he's
out there playing as a rookie thinking I've got a
whole career ahead of me to get back here.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I'm just gonna let it loose, cut it loose.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
And that's the one thing when you watch him play,
he doesn't really he doesn't play within a mold. He
plays outside the system a lot, which is really unique
and a lot of guys don't have success doing that.
He is just playing with so much natural instinct and
his first one of his best attributes and one of
the things he's looking to do first is take off
and run with the ball. He's such a good running
(05:33):
runner with the ball. And it's not because he's a
four to four guy. It's because he has the ability
to get down and cut and change direction and make
people miss. So I think in his mind right now,
he cannot wait for this game. He knows all the
pressures on Philly. They're at home, they've been there, they're
expected to continue to play through this game and into
the super Bowl. And he's playing with, you know, a
(05:54):
young team, a first year head coach, in his first
year as a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I think he is excited.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
I think he's gonna let it loose and have an
amazing game and possibly knock off Philly and.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Headed the Super Bowl as a rookie and be the
first to ever do it.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
You had a year in Arizona. It's still the best
year quarterbacks ever had there. You threw for forty six
hundred yards thirty five touchdowns. In the history of the
Chicago Bears, they've never had a quarterback equal the one
year your greatest year. It's the greatest year Arizona's ever
had for a quarterback in a season. You also, I
think you were the first quarterback to throw for four
(06:28):
thousand yards for three different teams, so you had success
in multiple places. All that said, Chicago has struggled with quarterback.
They've never had a four thousand yard quarterback, They've never
had thirty touchdown passes. You did it all sorts of teams,
so obviously that's a lot of you because you did
it with different people. Maybe some of it is the weather,
maybe some of it is It's always had a defensive culture,
(06:50):
but there is something to unlock here. You know Caleb
Williams pretty well as a former USC guy. How does
Ben Johnson This is a defensive culture. It really is.
You think Bears, you think defense. If you were taking
over Caleb Williams in Chicago, cold weather, rough outdoor games.
Are there any secrets to getting over the hump for
(07:13):
a historic franchise that can't get over the hump at
that position?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yeah, I mean a historic franchise that hasn't had success
at that position, but they've never had the athlete or
the player and the competitor that Caleb is at that position.
So it's a first time that that organization has had
somebody like him. You combine him with with with what
you know, you watch Jared Goff do who Jared Goff
(07:39):
is an incredible player, but not the athlete that Caleb
is so I just when I first heard that coach
Johnson was getting the job, Caleb's got the blueprint. He
can sit there and watch hours and hours and hours
of film of watching Caleb or I'm sorry, watching Jared
Goff run that system. And then you combine the addition
of all the attributes that Caleb has that Jared doesn't
(07:59):
have within his repertoire, I think the sky's the limit.
I think Ben is phenomenal what he's done. Some of
the He's coming up with concepts that people have not
seen or run in the NFL. There's some things he's
doing in against man defense, in the play action game,
their route combinations that I just haven't seen before, which
is really rare. A lot of stuff in the NFL
(08:21):
gets recycled and then it trickles down through college football.
But Ben is an innovator. He's coming up with new stuff.
And like I said, I mean, Chicago's got a quarterback
and an athlete back there that they've never seen run
out on that field in their uniform and their helmet.
So I think it's a perfect combination, and I think
the blueprint is right there for Caleb. It's so nice
(08:41):
when you get a new head coach that comes in
and you can watch that system on film and study
that playbook and study the cut ups that he's going
to be studying of Detroit and Jared Goff doing it,
and I just think that's going to energize Caleb.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Caleb's going to go.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Man. Yeah, Carson Palmer, So you've been coaching now a month.
He's coaching his son at a very storied high school
program in southern California. Harder than you thought, easier. Can
you give us an up? Can you give us an
update on your coaching? Oh, we lost him, We lost
Carson Palmer. Well, I appreciate it. We'll break down in connectivity.
(09:16):
It's the world we live in. Good stuff. Carson Palmer
fifteen years, three time pro bowler. He didn't play us
for our first year. John Kitten, I think was ahead
of him for a while. But I think what Jade
and Daniel's doing is all time stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noone Easter, not a em Pacific Jmack with the news.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
No no, no.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Hear on the news. This is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
All right, Colin, We've got A little breaking news out
of Houston happened about an hour ago. Bobby Slowick fired
as offensive coordinator after two seasons with the team. Ellison
obviously this season there were major issues with some of
his play calling. He just loved to go Joe Mixon
run into the line of scrimmage to start almost every
first Now Texans fans were irate about this. I guess
(10:02):
the big picture you look at it, he was hopefully
setting stuff up with the early down runs. But they
made the playoffs each of Stroud's first two years. Okay,
this year, the offensive line injuries were decimated the team.
The receivers went down, and they still made the playoffs
and still won a game in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Nd they won a game. They blew out the Chargers
and outside of special teams, out played the Chiefs. Okay,
Chiefs had two hundred yards offense.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
Yeah no, no, the defense was great. Albert Breer has
shed some light on this, saying and this is all
you need to know.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
CJ. Stroud was frustrated with his offensive cording.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Okay, and CJ.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Strutt whatever he wants. You know, he gets so young
quarterbacks the NFL.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
You know, I'm mean a young quarterback gets trust rat
and you could you're not going to fire the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
My only thing is like, I don't know how easy
this is going to be to totally pivot to a
new offensive coordinator, new system. We know Digs ain't coming back, right,
He's going to go elsewhere. They got to improve that
offensive line. Is a good job though for an oc
RIGHTJ Shroud.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
They got Stefan Diggs, You got around big money man. Well,
they got Nico Collins. Tanks tell they got a good
left tackle, don't should solid Joe Nixon good? I mean,
they got real weapons. And then it's a wonky division.
I think it's just I think it's a very good job.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
You want a hot take, whatta let me save it
for head. I'll tease it. I don't think they win
the division next year.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
You think Jacksonville does no comment? We'll talk about it.
And I think Sam Donald is going to the Indianapolis Colts.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Wait is that news?
Speaker 3 (11:36):
I don't know?
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Or I think that's your guess.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Okay, No, I'm saying Sam darn I mean I had
a pretty good prediction year. You guys may want to
just take my work work for everything. Sam Donald to
the Indianapolis Colts.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Donate it. Kirk Cousins to the Rod.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Sourced ruminating upstairs. Yeah, coward's going on the IR. He
just heard himself patting himself on the back. He's got
a shoulder injury. Next up is Jared Goff.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Hey, listen, man.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
He had a tough matchup against a bad Washington defense
of three red zone turnovers, two picks, and a fumble.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
It was.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
It was ugly, but he had a good run under
Ben Johnson overall. Now with his OC in Chicago, some
believe Goff may not have the same success as in
the past. GM Brad Holmes of the Lions feels otherwise.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
Obviously he was very productive with Ben, you know, as
a coordinator, but he had a lot of prior success
before he even got.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Here as well, in a completely different system.
Speaker 6 (12:36):
And I think he's a better quarterback and more mature
quarterback now than he was then when he had early success.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
So so I don't, I don't. I don't foresee that.
Speaker 6 (12:46):
Again, I think the guys in this prim he's gotten
better and better every year.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
And when I say problem, I think, like just entering.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
It is because he keeps ascending.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Yeah, I'm Brad Holmes sounds smart.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
He built an amazing roster.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Ind So you're not gonna duplicate Ben Johnson. The chap
is the next coordinator good enough to coach the Chicago Bears. No,
so you're not gonna get Ben Johnson. You're gonna go down.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
We don't know who was Ben Johnson four years ago,
Like these guys can come out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Ben Johnson's young.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Johnson four years ago wasn't as good as Ben Johnson today. Also,
so you're not gonna you're gonna just downgrade at OC.
You can just mark that and you're gonna downgrade it.
By the way, I'm hearing troubling things on the Jets staff.
Do not like the staff the Jets are compiling. I'm
just gonna tell you that right now after the weekend.
I don't like what I'm hearing. Don't like it.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Let's just be positive on them earlier this week.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Now, you know, when you get new information, new spin.
This is the new Spin zone.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
So we saved some time for this last story, which
is a freaking incredible lot.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Okay, the transfer portal, we know it's popping off. How
about this.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
There is a report out there from one of these
recruiting websites that Jeremiah Smith, the best receiver in college football,
was a true freshman Unguardable has a four and a
half million dollar offer to enter the portal. He just
won a national championship with Ohio State. He's coming back.
We don't know who their quarterback is going to be.
Colin USA Today is speculating Miami is the team pushing
(14:23):
for him. They just landed Carson Beck in the portal
a few weeks ago, and Jeremiah Smith grew up in
the Miami area, won three straight titles.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
They spent three.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
State titles and Jeremiah Smith leaving the Buckeyes.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
They're spending more money the Hurricanes than the Cincinnati Bengals. Seriously,
their payroll may be higher than the Bengals.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
This is spicy because Smith's numbers were unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
He's probably the best receiver.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
In college football since Randon Moss and Amikabuka, a very
good receiver, is declaring for the NFL right Ohio State
could lose their top two receivers and both they're running backs.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Let me just so, do you remember when Lebron started
teaming up with his friends and forming amazing super teams
in the NBA. Yes, what's stopping the transfer portal from
super teams forming in college pool?
Speaker 1 (15:12):
You have limitations on what most colleges can pay.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Oh, not necessarily four and a half million for Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
That feels low. Why would I would pay him more
than ninety nine percent of quarterbacks in college football? Would
you not? No, Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
He's going to touch the ball seven times a game
in contacts.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Marsty call it.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
If you're Texas and you hear this and you've got
Arts Manning and you lost.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Golden and everybody, why aren't you saying.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Well, here's five million. Texas has really good receivers. They're
probably paying three hundred thousand two.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
They're not Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Well, he's he's a wide receiver. By the way, teams
are getting better. Buffalo got better without Stefan Diggs.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
No, if that's the NFL, time out, that's the NFL
with an ego driven guy and the divas.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Jeremia Smith has no diva.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
A year ago, Michigan won the Natty and and their
weakness probably was wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Okay, Ohio State just won th Natty because they have
the best offense.
Speaker 8 (16:05):
Now, if you're.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
Oregon, do you come to the table. Hey we yet,
here's six million. Jeremiahs that till Knight opening the bank roll.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I think Oregon has to get a little bigger in
a couple of spots. I think they're plenty fast. Oregon
didn't have a speed problem. They got to get you
got to get better upfront defensively, del.
Speaker 5 (16:23):
Wi Sho Jeremiahsmon's probably going to Ohio State. Hey, yesterday's price,
it's not today's price.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Oh boy, I need more. No, wait a second, are
you backing off? You don't want these guys getting paid.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
I want them getting paid. I'm not paying six million dollars.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
You're not.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
It's Joe Joey Backett Donuts over here with seventy five
billion dollars.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
In the bank. I want my team to compete for
the championship.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
I'm not paying a college wide receiver. It's you know
what you like flash, you're a convertible guy. You're a
You're a gun show at the beach guy.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
I'm out.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
I'm a mason. I'm out here a masonry and a hammer.
Coastally Lee, I'm out, I'm building a roof for the impoverished.
I'm a lunch pail guy. You're you're a convertible maserati.
You like receivers. I like centers. That's where I'm spending
my money. Maya and I Ela is going to the
big boys up front.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Convertible with the tank top.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Is that coming? That's mind blowing six million for a
college receiver.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
No, no, it's not a college receiver. It's Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
You do realize Ohio State. He works at Ohio State
because of Ryan Day and Chip Kelly and Will Howard
and great running backs.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Oh som.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
It. You put him it over it in Syracuse and
I double team him. By the way, Texas took.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Him out of the game and they still won and cover.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Yeah, but they took him out of the game. It's
six million. You can't get taken out of the game.
You can't take a quarterback out of a game. You
can take a receiver out of the game. Roll coverage
over six million bucks. You gotta play a position I can't.
I can't take a quarterback out of a game.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
Okay, So just hypothetically, you're Ohio State and I'm Jeremiah Smith,
and I say, hey, Miami's got four and a half
for me.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
What do you guys say? Are you saying thank you
for the title?
Speaker 1 (18:04):
We'll see I'll say, I'll throw in Akiya, I'll give you,
I'll give you a company car akiya a Lisa Carr.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
And for He's like, you can at least that for
my cousin. What are you gonna give me?
Speaker 1 (18:14):
No, I got Brian hartlines my receiving. Oh yeah, coach,
we've got four other five star guys coming to us.
Speaker 5 (18:21):
Good luck, all right, Ohio State fans, This no Calart
said bye to Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
That's what I'm saying. It's if there's any position in
college football for any program, I'm not worried about, it's
receiver at Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Who are the two most marketable players returning to college football?
Arts Manning is won because of his last name and
Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
One one place quarterback?
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Oh my gosh, this is a good Ohio.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
State literally gets three five star receivers a year and
four other four stars. Why would I pay? I'm just
gonna be like, hey, you were great. You want to sinnatty.
You know, some guys hit the exits and you thank
them when Manny Ramirez left the Red Sox, thank you
for getting us a trophy. I don't need nine more
(19:05):
years of Manny Ramirez. You got us what we needed.
I don't know man by the way I mean, it's
like Ola, Garrett Wilson, Marvin Harrison, Jeremiah Smith, the Seahawks
kid in jig. Every year they got two first round guys.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Okay, all right, you let them go to Miami. I'll
put them up. When is our next to check?
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Getting getting a wide receiver to stay at Ohio State
is like you having another tank top for the beach.
You've already got a closet full. What does it matter?
Speaker 5 (19:35):
SEEZ, I hope this is not how my negotiation is
gonna go because this is not South promising at all.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
And I'm Jeremiah Smith.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
You know that? Yeah? Sure? J Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The
Herd line.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
J Max got his picks and more. Next live in La,

hundred thousand dollars in cast prizes. One of the questions
is which team will score the most points on Sunday, Colin,
who you got Bills at Casey, Commanders at Philly Eagles
(21:21):
or Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
I'm gonna go Eagles. The weather's not going to be
an issue, be cold, but they'll lay. They'll leave some
points on the field. That's Philadelphia. You always feel like
they could give you more, but I'll take them all.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Right.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Here we go, well, well, well, three games left in
the football season, two games this weekend, College not for
a while. You've got a very good season. So I
went three to oh last weekend. I've taken the Bills
this week, Philly and the over in the Commander's Eagles games.
So let's start tomorrow's headlines today Commanders Eagles. Wat's the
(22:03):
headline for the NFC Championship.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
You know, Washington comes in that one of the hottest
teams in the league. Like, who's beating them? Right?
Speaker 5 (22:12):
They're just on fire with Jaydon Daniels fourth down Historically great.
The headline will be claw abiding citizen. Eagles object to
Washington's commands. By the way, great movie, Law abiding Citizen.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
I don't know if you've seen it.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
I'm on the.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
Eagles here, listen. I think a teaser bringing them from
six down to pick them makes a lot of sense.
But ultimately, Washington fourth straight road game.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
You know the teams historically who play in a fourth
straight road game? Oh and seven straight up? It's tough.
You just wear down a lot of travel. One thing
defensively and schematically. I'm curious.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
So Tampa Bay and Detroit played a lot of man
demand against Jadon Daniels, turning your back and left Daniels run.
Philly plays a lot of zone and they mix up
the blitzes. I think Daniels could struggle here, and I'm
kind of with you. I smell the potential for a
Philly blowout. I will add I did bet Jayden Daniels
under fifty five rushing yards. Fifty five yards is a
(23:04):
ton for a quarterback. And he also does a lot
of eight yard runs. He doesn't do a lot of
thirty forty yard runs.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Usually. Yeah, he picks up a first down.
Speaker 5 (23:12):
Yeah, And by the way. I think the Eagles are
gonna be ready round three for fourth and three. Jayden
Daniels read option keeper. You know they're gonna be ready
for that. For some reason, Detroit was not coming off
the by Ultimately, whoever wins the turnover battle wins. Colin
Washington won the turnover battle five zero last week. Do
you think the Eagles are gonna turn the ball over
five times even three? Like, unless Jalen Hurts vomits all
(23:35):
over himself. I don't see that happening. I'll take the
Eagles to win semi comfortably.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Same here tomorrow's headlines Today, Bill's Chiefs won potentially for
the Ages.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Yeah, you know, you remember Brady and Belichick and the
Patriots Betting against them was just stupid.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
They would just win every important game, right, Starting to
feel like that with the Chiefs kind of sort of.
The headline will take a chill Bill Swifties, super.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Sweet, swallowed hole carried up Buffalo Bills going into Arrowhead
coward up, fired up about this game.
Speaker 8 (24:09):
I know all the numbers on.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Mahomes is a small underdog. He's unbeatable. Andy Reid, Oh my.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
Gosh, I think the Bills can pull this off, I
genuinely do. It's gonna have to be a Josh Allen game.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
I'm only over here.
Speaker 5 (24:20):
I think there's gonna be a lot of points, like you,
and this feels like a three point game either way.
You know, it's gonna come down to whoever has the
ball last, and hopefully it's Josh Allen. Now, the one
injury concern is Taylor Rapp, the safety hasn't practiced.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
He he has a history of injuries.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Yeah, sounds like he's not gonna go.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Now.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
The question is who fills in his spot. There is
the kid Elom out of Florida who was a first
round pick. He's kind of been a disappointment. He might
have to shift into a quarnerback spot and you move
somebody to safety.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
This could be a big Mahomes game there. You know,
he didn't do much last week against Houston.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
He didn't do it. Anyone was Travis Kelsey and nothing.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
Well, we know, you know, playoff Kelsey is a real thing,
you know, playoff Jimmy Butler, that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Play playoff Kelsey. Yeah, I mean he's unstoppable.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
I will point out to people who want to say, well,
the Bills offense didn't do anything last week in the.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Win over Kansas City in the regular season.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
No kin Cage, no Coleman, and they were down their
right tackle and they still moved the ball pretty much
with ease. I don't know, man, this I smell a
bit of a shootout. I know a lot of people
are looking at the under the totals forty seven and
a half. I don't get that these are two good offenses.
A quick reminder, the teams that are here have not
turned the ball over yet in the postseason. They're playing
(25:25):
error free football. Somebody's got a break. I saw stat
from I think Dan Orlofsky had it. The Buffalo Bills
have an NFL record twelve games this season without a turnover.
Now the Chiefs have gone eight straight without a turnover.
Something's got to give, right these guys can't continue to
play perfect games.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I'll go Bills.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
I love the Bills in a teaser leg up through
the key numbers of three to seven to seven and
a half.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
That's my best bet, is it? Eagles Bills teaser go?
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Josh Allen Tomorrow's headlines today, how about some tasty what's
the headline for the Bears next season with our new
coach Ben Jones.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Oh, we're getting a little speculative.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Ben Johnson's a hot name. Can he build a culture?
That's a big question. The headline in Chicago will be
it's been too long, Chicago playoff Hibernation finally over.
Speaker 10 (26:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
I think they make the lead.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Listen, this was a really good team for stretches early
and then Ibra Flus really coached him out of a
lot of games. They kept blowing stuff late that Hail
Mary to Washington. They never recovered from that.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Come never did.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Roster wise, if you look at this division, I think
they stack up pretty I.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Think they've got some really interesting players at key spots.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Yeah, and now the question is can build Ben Johnson
build like a tough staff? Can Caleb How quickly will
he adapt to Ben Johnson? I think there's some real
positives to take away here. And frankly, like you said,
Dallas is cratering in the NFC. The NFC South once
again is just like one team's gonna get in.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
I don't know what to do with.
Speaker 5 (26:51):
Like the Arizonas and Seattles of the world, I think
Chicago has a legitimate case to make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
This year with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Headlines today wild forty eight hours for Liam Cohen who
leaves Tampa for Jacksonville. What's going to be the headline?
Speaker 5 (27:07):
I get a sense you don't love this as much
as I do. I think this is fascinating, a chance
to coach Trevor Lawrence. The headline in Jacksonville will be
Cohen back on his word, Liam turnaround, turns Jags around.
Look at that Trevor Lawrence in the backseat driving this
Daisy Goods stuff.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Listen, that division is ripe.
Speaker 8 (27:26):
For the tex wide open.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Remember the Texans like, hey, anybody, does anyone want this?
They couldn't.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Nobody could take it last year. I just go back
to this Jags team, Trevor Lawrence. They got some weapons.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
I like ETN.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
I mean, you know, the wide receivers are solid. Young
kid Brian Thomas looks like a major keeper. They just
got to figure out the defense and Liam Cohen's smart
play calling. Remember, there was supposed to be a big
drop off for Baker Mayfield when they lost Dave Knalis
the oc he went to Carolina.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
There was no drop off.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
Baker was outstanding, one of the best quarterbacks in the NFC.
I think Trevor Lawrence can turn out. I think that's
a huge loss in Tampa. I think Jacksonville's a ten
win team next year. Put me down for the playoffs
for Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
I don't think that's crazy. Finally, tomorrow's headlines today, what
are we gonna do with the train wreck known as
the Dallas Cowboys going forward? They still I don't even
know if they have a coach on the radar.
Speaker 8 (28:18):
Right now, it's bad.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Now, I will say, we've got some genius headline writers here.
This has to be.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
I don't want to overpromise an under delivered. This is
a top three in my history doing this for like
six years. The headline in Dallas will be shut through
the heart, and Jerry's to blame.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
You give Dallas a bad name.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
Colin.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
That's pretty good at as good as it gets. And
I think we're starting to see shift over to hey, Jerry,
you had a good run. You got to let someone
else be GM. This has been disaster after disaster a
few years now. I'll go back to the Dak Prescott contract,
the way he bungled McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Colin, it's all not good.
Speaker 5 (28:59):
Now, I wonder how do you navigate that because Jerry
is getting all the blame Tron Dallas Radio.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
It's brutal. Look on the Dallas media. Everybody's pinning this
on Jerry.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
He did not have an alternative game plan when McCarthy said, no,
we know Dian was a pipe dream that was never happening.
And now it's Brian Schottenheimer, Like, I mean, it's so
bad that Michael Parsons has not gone in his podcast
to chime in yet, like he doesn't know what to say.
I know, if you're a Dallas count Cowboys fan, this
is defcon one right now.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
No, no, no, this is Look we're not trying to
be hyperbolic here. This is a disaster, folks. When you
don't when you're the last team to hire a coach,
because there's always six or seven openings, you get the
bottom end of the coordinators. And Jerry doesn't pay his
coaches a lot anyway, He's not Like, I mean, certain
organizations will pay coordinators, and there are certain organizations that
(29:51):
will not. Jerry doesn't pay coordinators big money or coaches
big money.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
It looks like Washington and Philadelphia are going to dominate
that division for I'm okay with it.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Those are great historic organizations. I'm fine with this.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Is this is bad if this keeps up.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
I don't you know in the NFL gives out primetime
games to the great teams. I don't know that Dallas
is going to be a big Sunday night team. I
know that the ratings are good with Dallas, but this team,
probably by Halloween, is going to be like the already
thinking the.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
I can't even believe in him. I mean, if Lebron
never goes to the Lakers, never shows up, what are they?
Speaker 2 (30:27):
People forget they were like a twenty win team got.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Kobe's last five years.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
I may be wrong.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
I think they were like one of the bottom three.
They were winning percentages in the league. They were lost.
Pete Carroll's the new coach of the Raiders. His college coach,
Carson Palmer had Pete and he won a Heisman with him.
Carson Palmer had Pete Carroll in college and he talked
(30:54):
about what Pete, right from the start will bring to
the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
He's the greatest coach that I ever had the chance
to play for. He's a future Hall of Famer. He's
everything you want to coach and the Raiders organization. Uh,
this is an exciting day obviously for the future.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
You know.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
I know it's a three year deal, maybe a four
year deal, but.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
He's just he gives you instant credibility, stability, maturity, and
he's been there and done that.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Yeah. I think I think it's good higher little silver
to the silver and Black. I'm good with it. J Mack.
We had a fun week and uh, two teams don't
have a coach.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
It seems like McCarthy and the Saints is a marriage.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Well, let me tell you that is a good get
by the Saints again.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
I just he's got en up.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
I like all of these. Ben Johnson, Liam Cohen, Aaron Glenn,
Mike Rabel, Pete Carroll. If McCarthy takes the Saints, I
think you have to go Robert Salah in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
I think you.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
I don't think you have a choice.
Speaker 5 (31:55):
I don't want to wish that upon Robert Salah. Better
to go to San Francisco, be DC, build things back up,
and then get a.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Good I am not hearing great things about the Jets.
Aaron Glenn's staff, all right, I'm just telling you give
it the weekend. What do you mean, give it the weekend.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Let's just see what happens.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Because the GM, I know, there's one reporter saying a
GM deals done. Others are saying that it's not true.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
A bit of a tug of war.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
I'll try to be positive through the weekend.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Okay, but there's some stuff going on with the Jets.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I'm around tomorrow. If you want to grab a beer
and cry on my shoulder. If the word comes out,
why don't go for a run in the rain. It's
not raining in La tomorrow till late afternoon, all clear early.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
It's the third
