You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
He was a Super Bowl Chat with the twenty fifteen
Denver Broncos, appearances to the Super Bowl with the Steelers
and the forty nine Ers as well. He retired a
few years back. Now his son's playing some football. He's
still in Denver. One of my favorite guys, Emmanuel Sanders,
a two time Pro Bowl wide receiver, is joining us
in the Herd seven playoffs in twelve years. So you're
living the good life, the retired life. And now I
want to ask you. You're the first player I've talked
(00:46):
to since I watched two last night. And I had
said earlier Emmanuel that players, overwhelmingly the football players I've met,
when they get paid, when they get the bag, they
want to prove they're worth it. They don't want to
bail and retire. And I could see Tua talking himself
into it. He didn't want to let down his teammates,
he didn't want to let down the fans, he didn't
want to let down his coaches. And I wonder if
(01:09):
you know, I don't know, if it's guilt that he'll
just talk himself into coming back and it may not
be best for him. You watch it, what would you
do as a player?
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:19):
For me, I mean that's hard because you know, I
you know, when they say that, guys kind of get
the bag and they kind of give up. I mean,
I just feel like that's from a laziness standpoint. But
when you're dealing with too, I mean we're talking about
longevity of life. We're talking about you know, him being
there for his family in years to come.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
I mean we're talking about a totally different situation.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
And you know, I've listened to people on ESPN and
and Fox and all.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
These different networks, you know, discuss this topic.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
And for me, like, it's a hard topic to discuss
because it's hard for me to tell him exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
What to do.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I just know if it was me, it's just hard
for that to be a last played of football, right right, Like,
And I think that's the hardest part for Tool is like,
I don't want to go out that way and that
be my last play of football.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
And I think that's from me personally.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Now, if Tool was my son, like you said, I
have a son, I'm telling my son. Look, look man,
Like you had a great career. I mean, you did
everything that you could possibly do. But at some point,
how much longer could you take this abuse to your
brain to the point of longevity of life that it's
going to hinder you and affect you down the road.
And it's it's big decisions to be made. I mean,
(02:39):
it's a hard decision. I hate to see it, but
I just hope that he does the right thing for
himself and don't think about anybody else besides his family
and himself.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
You know, it's so interesting you mentioned that I didn't
even think about that, but the last play being a concussion, Yeah,
that's crazy, that's it. That's really again, you're player. I
would have never even thought about that, and I think
it does matter. You know, I've said this about football
is really interesting. NBA is a players league. You know,
Baseball guys get ten year contracts. Football's different, a manual.
(03:12):
It is a family like you do. I mean, I've
talked to countless players. Once you get to week three,
everybody's hurt, the whole league's hurt. Nobody feels good by
week four. So it's yeah, that's a that's a really
good point. And you know, here's the thing too, is
years ago, ten, fifteen years ago, I did feel sometimes
(03:35):
that team doctors sort of pressured you to play hurt, Like,
I think that's over now. Like your last couple of
years in the league, what was your relationship with team doctors,
like if you were banged up, what was it like?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yeah, I mean certain guys in different positions. For me,
it was not so much of them forcing me to play.
I feel like in my early years it was more
of if I don't play, the next guy is ready
to take my job.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Right, And I'm in there and I'm saying, now I'm
gonna go out and play because I don't want to
be in that situation where I'm a Wally Fittman, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
The next thing, I'm done.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
So I used to always go out and play because
I wanted it so bad that I didn't.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Want to lose my job. And so I mean, even
with to a situation.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
I mean, these doctors gotta be They have to put
everything in front of them, especially dealing with the brain.
Like I understand a foot injury, a finger, this and that,
but when you're dealing with the brain.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Like that's something that you just don't want to play with.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
So you played with Garoppolo, Peyton Manning, Josh, Allen, big Ben.
Sometimes they were young, sometimes they were old. I watched
the young quarterbacks last week, and I thought bow Knicks
was the best of the group, but they looked a
little overwhelmed. Go back to your career when you were
playing with either Josh or Peyton or Garoppolo and they
were young. They weren't that you know, they were they
(05:01):
were in the developmental stage. Give me an example of
the difference between playing with a veteran quarterback and a
kid quarterback in your career. What's the difference.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
I mean, they're big eye. It's like a deer in
the headlights.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
You know, they like this.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Yeah, and you.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Know, as a veteran wide receiver, you're like, look, I'll
just keep throwing it to me.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
I take the pressure, right, But.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
But no, man, when I when I see both Nicks,
even when I see Caleb Williams, you know, like these
guys got a lot of expect expectations coming in, especially
you know Caleb Williams and the performance he had, even
both the performances they had in the preseason. It was
a lot of expectations with these guys. But I mean
that rookies, man, I remember my first rookie year. Like,
(05:50):
I mean, college is a whole nother animal, right It's
it's fast, But National Football League it's it's turned up
a notch and even playoffs it's turned up even more
of a not So you gotta get used to that speed.
You gotta get used to the just the lifestyle of
the National Football League. It's a lot that's going on
with these guys. I think that they're doing a tremendous job,
(06:10):
you know what I mean, and handle it. And I
think week by week they're gonna get better and better
and the game is gonna slow down more and more
and they're gonna get more and more comfortable. But I
tell you, well, I think the Broncos. You know, right now,
Broncos fans are kind of frustrated because they're tired of losing.
And I am too, But I mean this This just
feels different though. We got a young quarterback with a
(06:31):
lot of talent. He can escape the pocket, he can
make plays. You know, I was.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
Watching his interviews.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
He carries himself really really well, Like I think that
we have some special you know, we got Sean Payton,
So we just got to allow it to manifest and
build up on itself and don't put excess pressure on
this kid.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
So you played with the Niners back in twenty nineteen.
I think you played with Kittle and a lot of
these guys, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, who I think is
the best linebacker in football. So when they when they
took the Jets to the woodshed, my take is, you
don't want to play a veteran team week one at home.
I think the Jets are gonna be fine, but if
(07:08):
you watch that game, you're like, the Jets are terrible.
You were in that Niner locker room. I think there's
like seven Hall of famers. Fred Warner's a Hall of Famer,
trentsl hall of famer, Christian's a Hall of Famer, Kettle's
gonna be a Hall of Famer. I mean, Tufunga eventually
is unbelievable. You tell me the Niners culture. You were
(07:31):
part of it. I just think they're great. I don't
think the Jets are bad. What was it like to
be part of that team that I think is the
best roster in the league.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Oh, the Niners. What Kyle has built out there, I mean,
it's special. I don't have too many regrets, but sometimes
I sit back and saying, why the hell do it out?
Speaker 5 (07:51):
We're coming on to Super Bowl and.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
I was on my last leg and I was just
wearing the eyes of going back again, and I knew
how hard it was repeat. But man, I wish it
wouldn't have left. I mean, just playing under Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Man, it was awesome.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
I mean the weather out there in California and seventy
and Sonny and I mean.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
Just just the energy out there. It's just special. Man.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Playing with Kittle and dee Bo and Bosa and Fred
and all those boys.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
I mean, as semi young team, but it's.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
A bunch of grown men that love ball and they
come to work every single day.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
And not only that, they got in.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
My In my opinion, you missed the Hall of Famer
because Kyle shanan and me is gonna be a Hall
of Famer right, and I mean he stays true to
the run. I mean his system is everything that I
am as a receiver. They want they want receivers that
will take pride in the run game and who can
who who can catch the ball to be consistent with
(08:44):
who they are and how they are, how they play,
and so what he's built out there, it's just special.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Man.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
And man, I was watching this super Bowl, this previous
super Bowl. When they lost it, it crushed me. I
mean my energy just went down because I can't wait
until Kyle host that hoisted Lombardi Trophy. Man, because he's
deserving of me for sure.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Finally, Josh Allen, you played with Josh. I actually loved
Buffalo last night because they ran the ball. And I
always talk about the Luca dantic of the Dallas Mavericks.
It's like, I can love a guy. I want him
to be the man. I don't want him to be
the only man. And I watched Buffalo last night and
I'm like, oh, that that can win the super Bowl. Well,
(09:23):
two tight ends, depth, good back, their defense is always good.
With Sean, what was it like playing with Josh as
a leader, as a guy man?
Speaker 5 (09:34):
First of all, watching Josh Man.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
I love the way that he's playing right now, especially
because he doesn't have.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
No big time receivers.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
I Mean, when me and Diggs was there, it was like, man,
I gotta get these guys the ball. I gotta get
these the ball guys the ball. And now he's just like, Man,
I'm going into the game and I'm just making my reason.
I'm finding an open guy and there's no emotions of
having to force the ball to something. And I think
that it's a great thing for him. I mean, and
just playing with him. One thing that I didn't like
(10:07):
is is this overrated comparison. I'm like, are these people
crazy out of their minds? I mean, this guy is
just as fast as me. He's six foot five. I mean,
he has a rocket of an arm. I mean he
I mean he has all the intangibles.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
I mean, he's an incredible player.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
I truly enjoyed being out there, you know, just watching
his growth, you know in Buffalo, watching him versus the Chiefs.
Blink right, He's just blinking and on fire, jumping over
guys the same way that he was doing against the Cardinals.
I Mean, I love this version of Josh Allen he's
the same Josh Allen I played with in twenty twenty one.
(10:43):
But I feel like back then they were giving him
expectations that he's supposed to be great, But now he
didn't have the receiver so to speak, that they they
want him to have.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
And he's balling and I'm loving it.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Emmanuel, I always love having me on the show. Thoughtful guy.
Good luck to you, Good luck to your son. I
know he loves football too. He's gonna like basketball more
at indoors. He can dunk. That's way more fun. Basketball practice,
way more fun than football practice of manual. Just get ready.
He's got to throw those pads and that stuff away.
In about three years you go hoop and you're gonna
have to watch that and deal with it.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
Oh God, we'll see though.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
All right, A man, you're good seeing you, my man.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
I appreciate you scene as well.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
All Right, there's a real pro right there. That guy
knows the game really, really well. And I think his
point is fascinating that I never even thought of. You
don't want that to be your last plug. You're a
pro athlete, that's it, you say, Well, I don't know.
I totally I could totally get that as a pro athlete,
I want my last show to sing.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
Baby weren't Elway and Manning's final well no plays basically
super Bowl winning walk off like.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Yeah, I can remember as a kid Elway announcing his
retirement after the Super Bowl, and I remember thinking this,
he's still like a top ten quarterback, like why would you?
But you know John was a Stanford guy, had businesses.
But it's very rare. I I don't know why. In
my brain Roger Staubach I thought could have played longer.
I don't maybe that's not true. It's all fuzzy. But
(12:07):
l Way and Stallback I remember when they retired, I
thought they still had something in the tank.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
So what is that? Seventies football? Yeah, seventies. We haven't
had one of those in a while. A nice job
by you. I guess we stopped talking about baseball now.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
That foot me Tom Brady can still play.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
Yeah, no question, Miami Dolphins Tom Brady kidding, he sniffed
around at one point.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
I'll take it broadcast to get on a jet fly
down game plan, Tyree Killer Jayla Wattle. Sure yeah, I
mean seriously, if you were a backup quarterback in this
league and you wanted one more shot. You almost play
for free in Miami, McDaniel Jalen. Those backs Tyreek that
(12:49):
that is. I mean a lot of times when you
go in as a backup quarterback, you know, it's like, uh,
like the Justin Fields thing, It's just gonna be Hardami
is a backup quarterback. That is like, if I'm Zach Wilson,
I'm like, all play for free, get me down there.
And that is you get the coach, you get the receivers,
you get the back.
Speaker 6 (13:09):
The lifestyle, the culture in Miami, that stuff doesn't matter.
South Beach, I like it. My wife top season, year round, bab.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
My wife thinks it's too nightclubby, and I'm like, she
doesn't like he's going to get groceries out there, dance
Miami in LA.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
She doesn't like those cities. Those are like awesome cities.
I gotta talk to Anna.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
I gotta talk to her.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
J Mack with the News.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
This is the Herd Line News, all right.
Speaker 6 (13:48):
I know we like to force feed you positive stuff
teams and players.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
You like, I like positive vibe.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Well, we're gonna start with the Rams and Colin. This
injury report, it's almost unfathomable.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
I seen this.
Speaker 6 (13:59):
This is brutal, and this after they didn't play their
guys in the preseason, right, a lot of it right,
and now after one game it's like, holy cal they
you know, they lose in overtime and now you go
on the road to Arizona and Stafford was asked about
how elev La is going to navigate this injury bug.
Listen to this.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
We're going to have bumps along the way.
Speaker 7 (14:19):
You know that's going to be the case.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
This is NFL football.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
There's injuries that happened. Got to continue to try and
you know, come together as a team, mold and you know,
like we said, next man up at this point, you know,
who's ever available to play?
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Ready to go?
Speaker 7 (14:31):
Get those guys's runs. We possibly can't go out that
rock and roll and you know, I like, I like
Channis said, you know, just scribe their play.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Luck?
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, good luck. So we I mean, look at it,
Oh my god, this is for our radio audience. We
put their injuries on the screen. Let me count this one.
Two three. No, wait, Allen doesn't start one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
not ten starters out.
Speaker 6 (14:58):
And they have a left tackle suspend for the first
two games.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Jackson, Oh, timeout, timeout. Sean McVay just said, this is
big Rob Havenstein. Havenstein the right tackle will play. So
Warren mcclenn and his backup goes to left tackle. That's
not ideal his smaller tackle to begin with. So Havenstein's plan.
Speaker 6 (15:20):
So talk me through the game plan.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Here.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
Is this a heavy run game.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
I think it's a heavy tight end usage, running back usage.
A lot of throws in the flat don't make I
don't know Arizona's defensive front that well. Yet it's terrible, Okay,
So that there's your advantage that Stafford. I don't want
Stafford on five and seven step drops. But if it's
not a great pass rush, So Josh.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
Allen last week eighteen of twenty three for two thirty two,
a lot of underneath stuff, not many explosives down the field,
and they rush for a buck thirty Cook had a
good game. So this feels to me like a kyn
Williams twenty five carries. Let's get out of here with
the dub. Maybe Blake Korham actually touches. Sorry, the other
running back, yep, Kyrain Williams kyer willis like horm Yes,
(16:03):
maybe they work him in. I feel like this is
a run heavy game from the Rams. I don't think
they're going to have Stafford in the pocket with three
backup offensive linemen potentially taking hits trouble. Yeah, that does
not look good. Next up, let's go to bow Nicks,
your favorite rookie quarterback, got a rough debut against the Seahawks,
twenty six of forty two for one point thirty eight,
(16:26):
two pretty bad interceptions, did have a rushing touchdown. Knicks
didn't have a great start to his career, but Courtland
Sutton said he feels positive about his QB moving forward.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
I think he did a lot of the things really well.
I told him at the game he could posed himself
and handled the flow of the game. Well, you know,
the outcome wasn't what we wanted, but in terms of
the way, you know, he came in and handled his
very first game in the hostile environment. There's a lot
of hope and promise of moving forward. Yes, it's frustrating
(16:56):
to lose, but I mean she was the same way
people say you got to the I was celebrated when
you got twenty four hours to to you know, get
over a loss.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
Yeah, go and watch the film.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Put it, you know, learn from your mistakes.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
Put it to bed. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
I like Courtland Sutton a lot. I think their talents
better than people think. I really do. I think Denver's
got I thought their defense played very very well, and
I don't think it's a great you know, so much
of the sport is coaching. I don't know. I don't buy.
I thought Bo was the best rookie I saw play
corner a quarterback. I thought he was the best, and
they asked him to throw forty two times on the
road against the elite corners in one of the loudest
(17:30):
stadiums in Mike McDonald one bad pick. He had two picks,
but one was terrible.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
I just can't get over the one terrible pick. The announcer,
I forget who it was, but you can't even see
the receiver on the screen, And as soon as Nick's
unloads at the announcers like oh no, before you could
even see the receiver or the defensive back, and it
was picked. It was like you're gonna have a couple.
Oh no's it's gonna happen. Yeah, I know that Zach Wilson.
I had a couple of those as a rookie with
the Deads.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yeah, Colin.
Speaker 6 (17:55):
The final story is interesting. This is a good fine
by our producer, So Drake May. He did not play
in Week one, Jacoby Brissett led the Pats to the
big win. However, May says Brissett has been leading by
example on the field and in team meetings, and the
biggest thing he's learned from the veteran has how to
manage the game, adding you don't need to make big
time throws all the time. Managing the game is important.
(18:15):
And then girod Meo offered this current first team rep
split in practice is seventy thirty Brissett.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
So May's getting snaps why because he's the future of
the franchise.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Brissett is the starter they won week one, giving the
backup thirty percent of the snaps.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Absolutely, I was a little surprised at that. Brisset's been
He's like he's been around forever.
Speaker 6 (18:38):
How do you think he feels about that?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Not too concerned? Oh hey, well, how did Jacoby feel
doesn't really matter.
Speaker 6 (18:45):
Who cares about QB one.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
No, I'm just saying is Jacoby is known as a
great team guy Drakes the future rookie head coach. This
thing is all about the This is a long runway here.
I think this is really smart.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
Does Mayo have a long runway?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
By the way, I'm very disappointed where there is the
kid from Tennessee, Joe Milton. Like to see him getting
about those snaps as well.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
What are we divided.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
It against Jacoby? But it's like this is this is
a top six drafting team. That game over Cincinnati maybe
the highlight of the year. That could be the high
light of the year. We beat Joe Burrow.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
Can they take down Seattle or are they look ahead
three three and a half?
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Actually, oh, is it now so that the wise guys
are on Seattle on the roads? You know that's no touch,
no touch. But I would say, don't forget what we
thought about the Patriots ten minutes before they played the Bengals.
We thought this is the number one pick in the draft.
So Week one is it's almost like glorified for some
(19:45):
of these teams, especially defensive coach, rookie quarterback. It's like
a preseason game. I mean, now McVeigh, Shanahan, Andy Reid,
you know you got some veteran players. It's not a
preseason game. A lot of these teams with young quarterbacks.
It takes spare mental So jmigle theows.
Speaker 2 (20:05):

Speaker 6 (21:09):
Well in the in the Vegas contest, I went three
to one and one, so I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Oh you save your best picks for the Vegas No.
Speaker 6 (21:14):
No, they were many of the same. From here I will.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
I did.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
I had a good week. Miami was not good to
us last night. I was dumb.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
That was a lean well that we also said before
the game, if both running backs don't play, it's not
you know, it's good.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
You can't played and kill me in fantasy.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I know we didn't have great conviction.
Speaker 6 (21:32):
Yeah, no, no, this was It wasn't like U say, wow,
we'll get to it.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
We'll get all right. We call it tomorrow's headlines today?
What's the headline on Saintan Cowboys on Fox?
Speaker 6 (21:44):
So you picked this game? I like it as well.
This was pretty much early in the week circled as
one of the favorites. The headline for the Cowboys will
be Dallas Poe Boys Saints get sandwich down South. I
think this is definitely the Cowboys, which talked about them
being bullies when they're big favorites. I think Dak is
like seventy two percent when he's favored by six or more.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
I mean they just run away and beat these bad teams.
And now, no Marshawn Lattimore for the Saints. Their top
cornerbacks out. Who's gonna guard? Ceedee Lamb and Ceedee Lamb
had a very good opener against the Browns. I just
this Dallas team. I think maybe we were a little
low on them coming into the season because of all
the uncertain time.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
The wide receiver targets played well.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
Yeah they did, and Dak got the job done. Now
the Saints are the big question. Are they good? They
beat the Panthers ninety good.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
That's the problem.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
They only allowed two pressures to Carolina last week and
they have like a bottom of the league offensive line.
Dallas had seventeen quarterback hits. So something's gonna bend here.
Either Dallas is not that great of defensive line or
the Saints offensive line crumbles. I like the Cowboys to
win and cover tomorrow's headlines.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Today, Steelers go to Sean Payton and bow Nicks in
the Mile High City.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
I kind of like this.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
Pittsburgh off a big win right in Atlanta, going on
the road again. The headline will be organics, chemistry, bow
melt steel to find formula. Give me the Broncos winning outright, Colin,
this is a situation where the total is dipping precipitously.
I think I saw it at thirty six. And then
you look at the Denver Broncos and like you said,
(23:16):
they weren't awful last week, Knicks had to throw forty
two times. That will not be the case against Pittsburgh.
And I look at Justin Fields. Remember you showed his
passing chart zero passes in the middle of the field. Well,
he's facing one of the best cornerbacks in the league,
and Patrick Sartan he will follow Pickens around and then
it's like, Okay, who else is beating me? Justin Fields?
What are you gonna do? And I think they can
box him in. I think the Broncos win this outright,
(23:38):
and it's a positive for bo Nicks and Peyton getting
the dub at home.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Okay, A game I wouldn't touch you like on Fox
Tomorrow's headlines today, Colt had the Packers. You never liked
the pack This is risky.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
This is very risky on my end. A backup quarterback,
assuming he gets to start, the headline for the Packers
will be truth or dairy Milk's moment with she's heads, Yeah,
let's go Malik Willis Again, I pointed this out earlier.
He was with the Tennessee Titans, who have played you know,
they have to play the Colts twice a year. Su
(24:11):
Gus Bradley's defense, they're familiar with. Gus Bradley doesn't blitz
a lot. They blitzed at the lowest percent in the
league last year. He likes to sit back in his
cover three. We're not giving up big plays. I mean,
I think Malik Willis should have success dump offs to
Dobbs and Reid and Watson. You guys go make plays.
The other thing to watch is last week the Colts
gave up I think it was like one hundred and
(24:32):
fifty yards to Joe Mixon on the ground. Well, Malik
Willis is a running quarterback, right, and you've got Josh
Jacobs a decent group of backs there. I think Green
Ma can win this out right. I'm not down on
the Colts. I just don't think Anthony Richardson should be
laying points on the road. And Shane Styken we like
him a lot. This is just a tough spot to
be favored. So give me the Packers getting three.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
By the way, I will say some of these games
that you feature are not the most attractive television products.
Tomorrow's headlines today, Brown's at the Jags. That is a
corner TV game?
Speaker 4 (25:06):
What a U?
Speaker 6 (25:06):
No? Come on the Deshaun Watson stuff circulating. I think
there's a lot here. We try to pick up tendencies, right,
all these new coordinators.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
What did you see?
Speaker 6 (25:15):
Yeah, and I saw some stuff from the Jags that
has me to this headline for the Cleveland Browns. It'll
be rub a dub dub Brown's win without Chubb. Yeah no,
Nick Chubb. Still, I noticed the Jags played a lot
of man to man defense. They got the new defensive
coordinator in there, and they entered at work for a half.
They kind of surprised Toua and then what happened in
the second half to uncorks a bomb to Tyreek Hill.
(25:36):
Tua was one of two quarterbacks over three hundred yards.
This should be a get right game for Deshaun Watson.
Why Tyson Campbell. The best cover corner on Jacksonville just
got put on the ir coll it. Jerry Judy, Amari Cooper.
I think there's a world where Watson can have success
down the field. His stats last week down the field
air yards are fifteen plus. He was over ten against
(25:58):
Dallas over ten. He will not be that bad again.
I think the Browns bounce back. I like the Jags
as a team, but that was a brutal loss in
Week one. Now you come home and they don't really
have a home field advantage.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Well, it's interesting because they lost that lead and lost momentum.
They do that a lot that they're Pearson.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
Why did he go for it on fourth down at
like his own thirty right after the Tyreek kill touchdown
and they kind of they fumbled it away.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
It was just like when you watch Buffalo man handle
the Dolphins even pre to a concussion. I mean, it
wasn't competitive, and then you look at Jacksonville losing to Miami.
It makes me think less of Jacksonville. I think they
had three first downs in the second half.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
It was.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
And an offensive coach.
Speaker 6 (26:38):
Yeah, Jim Schwartz, he will bounce back here. I like
the Browns on the road.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Okay, and final you talk.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
About on one, You've got to watch this last game
come on.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Finally in the NFL tomorrow's headlines today, I may not
see it play from this game. Well, it's on Fox.
Giants Commanders on Fox.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
This is a rivalry game. I grew up, you know
in the DC area.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Oh, this was your kind of favorite game.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
Well, I dislike both teams because I was a Jets fan.
I'm put the Jets on, but I had to watch
the Giants a lot. The headline for Giants Washington will
be love thy Neighbors. Commanders can't keep command meant give
me the New York Giants in a bit of a stunner.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
I like this pick. I didn't put it in my five,
but I liked this.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
I'm waiting to see what Molik Neighbors did at practice today.
He was a little limited yesterday with the knee, which
is strange and not good at all. But Colin, again,
we dive deep into stuff that people aren't going to
look at. Did you notice what happened with Washington's special
teams last week? So their kicker shanked two field goals
and they cut him. So now they got to bring
on a new kicker. Special teams could be a big
(27:41):
factor in this one. Washington looked dreadful, and then Jaden
Daniels Colin it was just dump off city. Brian Robinson,
Austin Eckler did not want to throw it out the
ball down the field. That plays to the Giant strengths.
Their front seven is very good, their back end is
not great. Well, if Daniels ain't throwing deep and he's
only doing short stuff, New York should be able to
hang around. And then there's Daniel Jones, who can't beat
(28:02):
anybody except Washington. It's five one exactly, and he has
I think ten touchdowns and three interceptions. For whatever reason,
he gets up to play Washington, he won't be as
bad as he was last week. Right, What's what's our mantra?
You're nobody's as good or as bad as they were
the week before. Jones, who we don't think is a
starting quarterback, Well, I don't. I think they bounced back
(28:22):
and I'd like the Giants here in a close one.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, I think you're on the right side. I Colts
Packers to me have I thought that was your funniest headline.
That's one of those Rams Arizona. Now Habenstein can play.
Now it makes me think I'd probably take the Rams
if the receiver plays for the Giants. I like the Giants.
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Yeah, Neighbors is out.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
They have no weapons at all. It's that Viking game
was extremely bleached. The Giants are a tough watch. You're right,
they're gonna make the eyes bleed. If your wife walks
in the room, she's like, this is not football?
Speaker 1 (28:53):
What are you watching?
Speaker 6 (28:54):
Is this like? But there's so many good games in
that that early window Colin stacked.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
It is stacked, and there's a couple I'm really interested in.
Jets Titans has to be up the other one I considered.
So here's the week two schedule. Apologize to our radio audience,
but you know I don't like big favorites. So I
think Baltimore is gonna clabber the Raiders. But I can't
put it in my blazing five. It's just too many points.
Week two. Underdogs tend to do well week two, which
(29:22):
is okay. So I'm gonna give you my three favorite picks.
You tell me which one you think is a bad pick.
So I like Jets over the Titans. I like the
Texans over the Bears. And then I also picked what
was my other favorite? Oh, I had the Cowboys over
the Saints. Which you so, of these two, which one
do you think you really don't like?
Speaker 6 (29:39):
I just I don't feel great about the Jets short week,
I think so. Look, they lose Monday night, Colin, Right,
so they fly home, You get in maybe one or
two days of practice, right, you can't right after the game,
you can't practice, and then you got to go back
on the road to Tennessee. So they're gonna be a
little rope weary here. I know it's early in the season,
and how could fatigue play a factor? The forty nine
ers bully people, they push teams around, Colin, and this
(30:01):
is gonna start one too, and then you're gonna lead
with Rogers on Monday. Just totally crapping on the Jets
and how bad they are, and.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
How about concern? How about this? That would matter more
if Aaron wasn't a veteran, if Tyron Smith wasn't a veteran.
Is that they've got now a couple of veterans on
the O line and Aaron Rodgers, So I would worry
if I had a young quarterback in a short week. Now,
I do think your point about being bullied by the Niners.
Teams that played the Niners last year the following week
(30:29):
they were bad, but they Aaron didn't get sacked, Oline
gave up one sack. I think you're probably right. The
wise guys think I'm wrong on the Titans. I just
think the gap in quarterback between c J. Stroud and
Caleb and Aaron and will Evis is so dramatic that
if I get twelve possessions, Aaron'll cover. He'll cover in
(30:50):
twelve possessions. And Nashville's not a home field advantage. It's
not a big no one of the quieter stadiums. By
the way, uh chefty schefter. Giants first round pick Malik
Name cleared to play on Sunday. So now we both
like the Giants.
Speaker 6 (31:05):
Yeah, I mean he is, he could cook. I mean
that secondary. Did you see them against Bakers?
Speaker 1 (31:10):
No, they they have to a drag. I think Washington
literally is one of the teams at the deadline has
to go get a starter. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
By the way, Bobby Wagner, they're trying to play him
at middle linebacker. He got destroyed in coverage by the Bucks.
I mean he's like thirty four years old. I mean
like Hall of Famer. I think he'll be the great.
Speaker 7 (31:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (31:28):
Can he guard anybody? Devin Singletary out of the backfield? No?
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yeah. Anyways, all right, Emmanuel Sanders great stuff today. Steve Kaie,
my buddy, stopped by as well. Are blazing five. See
you Monday.
