Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Well as all of you know, I'm a Sam Darnold
fan like him, personally saw him over the summer. But
I do think for young quarterbacks and mostly all quarterbacks,
fit is really important. And Sam had some mechanical stuff
he had to clean up and they just couldn't do
it in New York, and we felt if he was
ever gonna succeed, Kevin O'Connell was the right guy, the
left tackle, Justin Jefferson the run game with Aaron Jones.

(00:48):
This to me was like a little bit like Baker
in Tampa, Chris Godwin, Mike Evins, good old line and
Baker's crushing it. And I kind of feel like Sam's
finally got his king maker and Kevin O'Connell co to
the Vikings one to oh joins us live. So do
you think I know? Mostly you quarterback that people think

(01:10):
you can't get better if you don't play, But could
I argue that Sam being with Kyle for a year
and watching it, do you think that helped him?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Absolutely?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
I mean, Colin, when you're in a system like that that,
you know, really very few people, if any, run the
football better than they do. They do a great job
making it really hard on you to defend the run
because right about the time you try to commit another
defender down to the box, he's got great play action
getting the quarterback off the spot.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
With the keeper game, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Kyle's you know, one of the best there is in
our league of not only calling the game, but just
how he designs things to attack week in and week
out what he's going to get.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
One of the smartest coaches in our league.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
And I do think Sam definitely benefited not only from Kyle,
but I think Brian.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Greasy does a great job at the quarterback coach position.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
And then just watching a guy like Rock Perty who's
played so well, so consistent by a lot of the
same principles, you know, throwing completions, being accurate, playing with
great timing, you know, allowing the offense to hopefully generate
some easy, explosive opportunities, and you know, very few teams
have done it better in the San Francisco forty nine
ers and I feel, you know, that experience from Sam

(02:29):
as we hope to try to have you know, success here.
He's off to a great start and just so proud
of him with how he played last week.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah, yeah, it's it was really a joy to watch.
You could see that San Francisco. We said I would
not want to face the Niners in the first week
of the season. I don't want to see Shanahan six
weeks preparing a game plan. I don't care if Christian
plays or not. It's like he and Andy Reid McVeigh,
mcveigh's second half game plan yours against the Giants. I
don't want to face any of you guys in the

(02:57):
first week. I want to get something on tape. When
you look at the Niners without Christian McCaffrey, be honest,
you're not sleeping well this week, right like that, they
got so many weapons. What do you make of their offense?

Speaker 4 (03:13):
You know, it's it's not only just their offense calling,
and they've got impact players, you know, at every level
of their defense. You just go through the personnel, you know,
as a coaching staff, when you start the week out
leading into the game week and one will eventually present
the game plan to the players and you just see
whether it is Trent Williams. Obviously, the quarterback position has

(03:35):
been played as well as anybody at in brock Purty.
They've got the ability for their run game with Christian
McCaffrey as the best running back in football, you know,
to even you know, come to life and look so
impactful against the Jets and that opener, and I think,
you know that running back's a good player, and he
wouldn't be there as their next man up if he
wasn't Kittle deebo i yuk.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
The list goes on and on, and then you go
the defensive side. They have the best, you know, the
best outside defensive end rusher in football. They've got a
great interior. They signed Leonard Floyd, who I was around
in LA who I have always had a ton of
respect for. The great linebacker play you know from from
Fred Warner, probably the best middle linebacker in football. Uh

(04:19):
And then I think Ward is really ascended as a
pretty elite corner, you know, and when they're healthy and
get Hafano back. It's you know, you just you just
you can't stop. You just keep on going with the
personnel that they have. So you better be locked in
from a standpoint of how you want to utilize your
personnel while also understanding the great problems they present to

(04:40):
you in every phase of the game. Run past, offense, defense,
and then you know they're just going to be incredibly
well coached in the effort and the physicality. Playing the
Niners is, you know, it's it's an unbelievable challenge for
your team.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
But I think you can learn a lot about your team.
I know we learned a lot about our team.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Last year and we really were you know, had gotten
off to a slow start, and right about the time
we were able to win that football game on Monday
Night football, you know, I think we learned a lot
about what the makeup of our organization is by the
performance against those guys, really complimentary in all three phases.
And you need to play really well. You need to
take care of the football, and you obviously have to

(05:20):
do all the little things well. And that's just schematically
and your technique and fundamentals. Before you ever start talking
about how you're gonna slow down their great personal The.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
League has gotten so offensive that it's just it's crazy.
You're lucky because JJ McCarthy in a strange way, the
injury obviously scares you, but he gets a year. My
home sat for a year. Carson Palmer did, I've argued,
we're seeing some of these young quarterbacks. They're just over there,

(05:53):
They're over their head. The stuff is I mean, Caleb,
that Tennessee pass rush, it's brutal. And let me you
just vaguely not directed anybody. If I was coming into
the league and I had to start Week one, I
was Jaden. I was Bowe Nicks, who I thought played
pretty well. I was Caleb as somebody that played in

(06:15):
this league, I had a good college career. Give me
two pieces of advice as a guy I respect and
the people do. Two pieces of advice is the world
is flying by that kid who goes from playing Oregon
State to San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Right.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Two pieces of advice you would give young quarterbacks because
we got a lot of them playing in this league
and some look a little bit overwhelmed.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah, I think you know, the first piece of advice
would be to just trust your feet. And eyes, and
drill the schematics in the fundamentals of your own personal footwork, timing, rhythm,
and trust the rhythm that's being coached by your coaches
to allow you to then navigate the pocket and possibly

(07:04):
create off schedule. But hand in hand with that, Colin
would be never be afraid to put the ball in play.
It might not always be holding the ball for two
extra hitches to launch a ball downfield, or it might
not be you know, thrown in between the hashes and
the intermediate level. If defenses are going to give you
the opportunity to throw completions, get the ball in space

(07:26):
to some.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Of your playmakers. I do believe for any young quarterback,
every completion can have a negative effect on the defense
and a positive effect.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Much like in basketball, the analogy of you know, very
few people with Steph Curry can start out an NFL
game just ripping twenty five foot three pointers. You get
a guy to the free throw line, or you get
them some easy buckets early, that rim starts feeling a
little bit bigger and you start seeing more shots go down.
It's similar in our game, you know, pitch and catching

(07:59):
to really and that's what I thought Sam did so
well last weekend starting twelve for twelve. You know, he
played fundamentally sound, He played with great eyes, and he absolutely.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Drilled some throws that.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Were there for him and then just got into a
rhythm where now you know, the field seems bigger, the
space seems larger, and you just have to do a
good job as a play caller trying to continue the
flow of the game as much as you can while
also thinking about how you're utilizing your personnel.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
But those would be the two things I would say, Colin.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
We didn't even talk about blitzchecks or you know, understanding
their role in the run game, or understanding the play
clock and the crowd noise and cadence and all those things.
So you can get the point. I think you're exactly right.
It's a tough ask. You know, haven't studied a lot
of these quarterbacks last year. I think they're all more
than capable of being quick learners and you know, playing

(08:49):
really good football.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
So I'll be watching all those guys for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Finally, I got to ask you about a guy you
were in LA with McVeigh. Mark Sanchez said this yesterday
and I said it Sunday after the game. I thought
matt stafford second half may have been the best half
of quarterback play I had seen in I'm not joking
in years. It was insane. He was missing three offensive
linemen on the road Sunday night pass rush Kuka Naku

(09:14):
is out, Kevin, he made two throws. I don't even
I don't know how he saw the person. I want
to ask you, because you don't have to play him
in the near future, what's his magic? Like when you
when you were at practice. I mean, you've had all
these quarterbacks. If i'd never seen him play, I said, Kevin,
what's what's Stafford's secret sauce? Because is it instinct? What

(09:39):
is his secret sauce?

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Well, we do.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
We do play them coming up, but thank giveness, it's
a short week so they won't be only use any
of my bullet board material. You know, I know Matthew,
Matthew and Sean are you know Sean McVay is one
of my you know, closest friends in this league and
Matthew Stafford really getting a chance to coach him was
really changed my whole perspective on the quarterback position.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
But I can tell you this, Colin, Matthew.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Stafford really has every trait that you want as an
NFL quarterback. But where he is truly, you know, at
the top of any chart you can find, you know,
this is this guy has an unbelievability to make every
single throw from just about every body position that you
would maybe not always the ones that that some of

(10:28):
the other guys in our leagues can do, you know,
moving off the spot and all those things, but he
can in the pocket, out of the pocket, whatever it is.
He can adjust his arm angle and put the ball
anywhere he wants on the entire football field.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
So that's the starting point. Then he's got such an unbelievable,
you know, tool set. From a field vision standpoint.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
He could tell you the smallest detail about leverages techniques,
what this defender did on the backside of the formation.
Even though he was looking to the right, he still
knew what the guy on the left did. It allowed
him to almost you know, throw things, never blind because
he had the field vision to see it all. But
just unbelievable from a standpoint of that, and then flat

(11:10):
out to be the guy that.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Holds it that one click and you saw that Sunday night. Yeah,
you've got to be a different.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Kind of cat now calling to stand in there. I
know that passed rush really well. They're one of the
best in the league in Detroit rushing the quarterback to
stand in there over and over again, knowing you're down
and tackle, knowing that you've got to do some things,
possibly with your eyes or holding on to the football
to throw it and find completions.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
Couldn't agree more.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I think matthew is just fantastic. I think Sean is,
you know, one of the best in our league at
what he does. You know, not just as a play
caller and an offensive coach, but just as a head
coach of an organization. Can't tell you enough the impact
both of those people had on me. But I share
outside of a Thursday night, coming up here in October, November,

(11:56):
whenever it is, I'm always watching those guys and rooting
for him.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Forget this clip by and you said nice stuff, so
you're not gonna get in trouble with these guys. Material
like Matt Stafford and McVeigh need bulletin board material, Like
you know what, Matt Stafford is actually better after you
hit him. He's better on the road sometimes when you
tick him off. Kevin O'Connell. Good luck, Niners, is quite
a task. Congrats to you and Sam. Say hi to Sam.
I love him, great kid, Thank you so much. Well,

(12:23):
thank you coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Really, boy, you're
in You're in a good space in Minnesota. You got
like it's a coach quarterback league. That dude. He reminds
me of maybe we had what is let me see
the Viking schedule. I thought the Rams game was later.
Let's see what it is. Yeah it is. It's it's
week eight. Yeah, all right, well they're scheduled. Dude, they

(12:46):
don't look at this Niners, Texans, but all of them.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
That Packers game may not feature Jordan Love and then.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
Yeah, he's gonna be back. Three to six is the
usual for that injury on?

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Three to six are a week about your working hours?

Speaker 6 (13:05):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
No, I mean the schedule softens up, But does anybody
in the league have a tougher schedule week two to five?
I face Shanahan, C. J. Stroud, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love
and the Lafleur and then Aaron Rodgers if you could,
if you could say today you go too, and two
you totally take that. I think Minnesota's gonna give San
Francisco a fight. I do, Yeah. I think it's gonna

(13:30):
be a gate that numbers come down to five from six.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Now.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
I think the side I think is the two dogs
that people won't give a chance to Atlanta against Philly
and Minnesota against San Francisco.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
What Raiders No, okay, Raiders Ravens No, No, Right.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Gardner Minshew went in there, I think last year with
the Colts and one straight up I had I had
them in that game.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Yep, not gonna happen. I'm not gonna listen to that.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
Mince you covered. I don't think they won.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
They covered.

Speaker 5 (14:02):
That's all I care about.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
That's all America cares about. Mostly.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and noone Easter nin a em Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app Jmack with a News, No,
No turn on the news. This is the Herd Line News.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
All right, let's start with Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 6 (14:22):
You just referenced Atlanta didn't look like himself in Week
one coming off the Achilles. Well, according to our colleague
on the facility, Chase Daniel picked up a tendency that
we may not have noticed during kirk Cousin's debut. It's
clear to Chase Daniel that kirk Cousins is not fully healthy.

Speaker 7 (14:40):
Kirk Cousins his entire life, his entire life, and I
watched every step. He's a right foot up forward. What
does the right foot up forward do to you, Chase?
It gets you away from the line of scrimmage faster
because you're pushing off that right foot. All right, this game,
I don't know what changed. I don't know if it's
offensive coordinator Zach Robinson new from the Rams.

Speaker 8 (14:58):
He went over.

Speaker 7 (14:59):
He's the offense corder for the Falcons. He's the straddler.
He is literally the horse right here. He is in
the pocket like Peyton Mattie. So in my opinion, what
I saw was I saw no push off to get
away from the pressure.

Speaker 8 (15:11):
You saw that interception. We just saw.

Speaker 7 (15:12):
It's a lot of pressure. I don't know what's changed.
I got to do some more diggits.

Speaker 8 (15:16):
It's just interesting to me. He doesn't look comfortable.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
That's interesting. That is interesting, Chase said. The gang they're
on the facility every.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
Day right before our show. Yeah, so shout out to
those guys. And uh, you know, if kirk Cousins is
doing this.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Straddling, that's very interesting.

Speaker 8 (15:31):
Look at that.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Not good? Yeah, I'm not good last week for sure
that we can attest to you.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
Yeah, and listen, if he's doing this straddling against Eagles,
it's gonna be No.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
That defense isn't very good. You can straddle those guys for.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Thirty points you the defensive front, all right?

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Did you watch that?

Speaker 8 (15:48):
They don't have T J.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Watt, but they got some dudes and those dudes weren't
very effective for big chunks of the great Jordan Love
was going off his back foot a lot.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
I didn't think Jordan Love was particularly sharp against the Pack.
Against Eagles.

Speaker 6 (15:59):
Get couple of the Jayden Reed was all him, you know,
made the catch, It ran like sixty yards.

Speaker 5 (16:04):
But I don't know, you really like the Falcons this week?

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Huh?

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I think it's an interesting game. I don't think I
think people go Philly Monday night, Philly Kirk Cousins, Kirk.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Cousins Prime time.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
That scares me on trend alert. He tends to be
very rigid in his preparation, but so was Peyton Manning.
Peyton didn't like mondays and playoff and long halftimes. That's okay.
A lot of people just they like what they like.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
Okay, let's move on to Baker Mayfield in the box.
Really impressive offensive, showing thirty seven points in a blowout
of the Commanders. This week, Tampa will take on Detroit
in a rematch of last year's Divisional round playoff game.
Baker actually, they got the ball back late in that game,
down eight with a chance to go in, and Baker
threw a pick. But this time he thinks it's a

(16:48):
big measuring stick for Tampa.

Speaker 9 (16:51):
Every week, you got to bring your best stuff at
this level. If you don't show up, you can get
beat any any given week. But this is one of
those on the road with a team that was in
the NFC Championship, where we aspire to be. So it's
one of those, Yeah, you said, a measuring stick to
great competition. See how guys handle it early on, and
you know it's a long season, but you know this
is we can learn a lot from this one.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
He was good, like really good, fun.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
Story like it's one of the worst secondaries in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Well, that's good. There's not that many great secondaries can
you just sometimes just say good job athlete.

Speaker 5 (17:26):
Well, I think we need to contextualize it.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
No, it'd be nice if it was Noah's negative contextualize it.
You could come in and say, I also thought Baker
has a fine game.

Speaker 6 (17:37):
Yeah, okay, Baker had a fine game against a rock.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
We don't always have to bang on the great athletes
we cover. We can sometimes be positive.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
Yeah, Baker's your guy.

Speaker 8 (17:46):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
You bring my name up to Baker Mayfield and you
know what he does. He smiles and laughs. We are frenemies, okay, yeah,
like me and Cam Newton. Basically, I don't think you
guys should I think it's just an I don't think
it's any friends in the NFES.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
That's a curate final story to college football. I didn't
even realize this was happening. The Pac twelve, right, they
only had two teams left. Well, they just announced that
they're adding Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, and
Fresno State, and that will begin in the twenty twenty
six twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
Academic I mean, those.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Are solid college football programs. Shouldn't have any big dogs,
but they got should have some bite to it.

Speaker 6 (18:26):
Okay, So they need to find eight teams, and there's
a lot of speculation about.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
What other teams could rout. What would they get the
new pack.

Speaker 6 (18:35):
So they're looking at Memphis, which is not no UTSA no, yeah,
UNLV regionally it fits, but gosh, they're they've been terrible.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
How about BYU. I don't see them on the list.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
I would pain air Force in New Mexico.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
I would put air Force and BYU in. BYU Cougars
have a great they got the Blue and White Club,
they got money in that program. I would put BYU
in a second in there. Zach Wilson is about by
US a great program. I mean that state of Utah
has got two great college football programs. I do b
YU and air Force get one of the academy. Well,

(19:10):
it's a different version of it, but I can tell
you right now those programs have all beaten big dogs before.
Though those those are.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Not the ones that picked up a nice win here
or there.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Come on, God again, I'm not saying it's the SEC.
I'm saying if you put by You in, they're an
independent now, they play like a they play a pretty
big boy schedule.

Speaker 8 (19:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
By You, in fact, would be amazing. What an addition
that way, now you're going you.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Go in the opposite now and be ridiculous. Okay, well
how about this, I'll wait time out. Bring Callen Stanford back.
So b Yu's in the Big twelve. By the way,
they were much better fitting in the Do you think
Col that academic guys on the screen are reminding me?

(19:55):
Bring Arizona and Arizona State back? Bring Callen Stanford. Do
you think Cal wants to be in the a oh
where we playing volleyball tomorrow? Wake Forest? I mean, it
doesn't even make sense.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
That they're an academic institution with lines up with Duke,
which is a great academic That's what they're thinking.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
You're thinking academics winning me on football games on Saturday.
It's time for Stanford and Col to get their priorities
in order.

Speaker 6 (20:19):
Football Stanford Big ten makes more sense. You know Big
ten would love to get in Siliconda. Well would they
would like? They would like the academic part of them.
But in order to get in the Big ten, you
got to bring something to the table. Can't just be
the econ department. You can't just be Stanford, a global
university that dominates everything.

Speaker 8 (20:38):
Yeah, you can't beat them.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
I have a friend that went to Stanford University. He
can barely chew gum and walk at the same time.
I think they've lightened up there. A lot of people
say it's it's basically a glorified JC with a nicer campus. Okay,
I'm being a cheer.

Speaker 8 (20:54):
I'm the negative.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
How about how about that the staff is just giving
me ideas. Don't we want to get Utah? Utah would
crush in that conference? How about Utah give me Arizona
Utah BYU and all of a sudden you got nine.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
Sure appreciate, I want to be positive. Sure that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
I love it. Alright for the news, Well that's the news,
and thanks for stopping by the Heard Line News.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
I'm not done with the show. We'll return live from

Speaker 1 (22:11):
All right, Jordan Schultz, our NFL insider officially at Fox,
we got stuff to get to this six stuff. Let's
start with Hassan Reddick. Now, the Jets got pushed around
by what we perceived is a pretty weak O line.
Trent Williams arrived late in the camp. What is the

(22:32):
latest on that?

Speaker 11 (22:33):
Okay, so let me take you back to the March
twenty ninth era, right when the Jets traded for Hassan Reddick.
Before that's rate even happened, Colin, they were given permission
to negotiate with him by Philadelphia. They could not find
a deal. They made an offer, he didn't think it
was good enough, and then they.

Speaker 8 (22:53):
Still made the deal.

Speaker 11 (22:54):
Anyway, Joell, let's said, let's get you in the building
and let's make some magic.

Speaker 8 (22:57):
Once we get here.

Speaker 11 (22:58):
Yeah, then what happens they tell Hassan Raddick, if you
show up for your initial press conference March twenty ninth
March thirtieth, we will, in good faith negotiate a new contract.
But let's at least find you here in the building again,
and let's find.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
Some good faith. Right, let's make this a good rapport
between us. So what happens then?

Speaker 11 (23:21):
They have not spoken since March twenty ninth, Colin, So
you're talking six months, and he obviously hasn't been in
the building.

Speaker 8 (23:29):
He's been getting fined.

Speaker 11 (23:31):
He had an eight hundred thousand dollars game check he
lost by not showing up for the forty nine ers game.
So this has gotten to the point where everyone knows
it's not only unfriendly, it's there's no communication. And as
a result of that, it makes you think, how much
longer can this go on?

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Bengals Jamar Chase. Listen, they got beat by New England,
couldn't move the change, he was limited in his effectiveness.
What's the latest on that?

Speaker 11 (23:57):
So they got close. Both Cincinnati and Chase got close.
They were in the vicinity of a deal. Cincinnati did
what Cincinnati does. This is a small market franchise that
does not like to give huge contracts.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Now.

Speaker 11 (24:11):
They broke precedent last year with Joe Burrow. They made
him the highest paid ever fifty five million. They should have,
in my opinion, done the same with Jamar Chase because
what's gonna happen is the same thing that happened.

Speaker 8 (24:22):
With Dallas and CD and Dallas and Dak.

Speaker 11 (24:26):
I told you six months ago Dak Prescott was gonna
get paid sixty million dollars. He was gonna be the
first quarterback ever to get that number. Dallas waited Cincinnati
by waiting, It's not like they're not gonna pay Jamar Chase.
In fact, I think what's gonna happen. You can book
it right now. He will be the first receiver ever
to get forty million dollars.

Speaker 8 (24:43):
That's my prediction.

Speaker 11 (24:45):
Jamar Chase next year will be the highest paid receiver
ever because the number keeps going up and up. We
already saw it this year with usin Jefferson. Jamar Chase
is on the same level as Joe Burrow. These are
the top of the top of their position. He's a
homegrown guy. And on top of that, what bothered me,
if I'm the fan I felt Jamar Chase handled it
with class.

Speaker 8 (25:04):
He didn't hold out, he didn't hold.

Speaker 11 (25:05):
In, he participated in individual drills, he practiced a little bit,
and they still didn't get a deal done.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Give us the truth on Justin Fields and Russell.

Speaker 11 (25:15):
I think Pittsburgh feels that it's easier to go from
Justin to go from Justin Fields to Russ than it
is from Russ to Fields.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Interesting.

Speaker 8 (25:24):
I really believe that.

Speaker 11 (25:25):
And I think Mike Tomlin's gonna be tested here Colin
because he's always said, my guys, if you're the starter,
you cannot lose your job due to an injury. Now
Russell Wilson has the injury, Justin Field does want to
know what Let's say he goes too and oh, are
you really gonna say we were not gonna play you anymore.
I don't know how you bench a quarterback who's two

(25:46):
and oh. Now they can say Russ is still hurt,
but at some point he's gonna be healthy. And I
thought what we saw from the preseason to Russ, he
didn't look sharp at all. This is an offensive line
that's dealing with some injuries. Isaac Ciamalo, their Pro Bowl
caliber guard.

Speaker 8 (26:00):
To me, the Steelers are going to be predicated on
running the football anyway, They were cautious. Arthur Smith was
against the Falcons because of Jesse Bates.

Speaker 11 (26:08):
I think they'll open it up more, but I think
justin fields give you gives you a higher upside, And
I think Mike Tomlin knows that.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Rams are a mess physically.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Are they worried in the building.

Speaker 8 (26:19):
Yes they are.

Speaker 11 (26:20):
Their entire offensive line except for Jonah Jackson, is decimated,
whether it's suspensions, irs Avila, Alaric Jackson, Haven's side.

Speaker 8 (26:30):
You can go down the list. Then you lose Pooka,
you lose a corner.

Speaker 11 (26:34):
Listen to me, Sean McVeigh, despite all the bells and whistles,
he still wants to run the football.

Speaker 8 (26:40):
This is a guy who wants to be physical.

Speaker 11 (26:42):
Now they did, they were not unable to do that
ten carries four yards or Kyle Williams Blake Corn didn't play,
but they're not going to be able to establish the
run with the offensive line as it is now.

Speaker 8 (26:51):
They have a capable backup.

Speaker 11 (26:52):
They signed Jimmy Garoppolo, he suspended, but Matt Stafford is
the franchise and without Pooka Nakua and Tyler Higby, by
the way he was on are they're tied end?

Speaker 1 (27:01):
They just don't have seven starters? No, they don't.

Speaker 11 (27:03):
And to me, when you lose Aaron Donald like that
changed the whole landscape of the team. I still think
this is a good football team and at some point
you're going to be competitive, but it reminds me a lot, Colin.
After they won the Super Bowl, they came back in
twenty twenty two and they were decimated by injuries. Again,
that division is better, Arizona's better. I think Seattle's better,
and we know what the Niners are.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Jade and Daniels struggle. Dan Quinn okay with it. How
do they feel they're.

Speaker 11 (27:28):
So high on Jayden Daniels that to me, you know,
a one game or even a month sample size is
not going to matter. I think what we saw from
Jaydon Daniels in Week one was similar to what we
saw with Caleb Williams. You know, they were very cautious.
They couldn't necessarily run the football with Swift or Eckler
in Washington or or Brian Robinson.

Speaker 8 (27:47):
Jadan Daniels is going to get opened up.

Speaker 11 (27:49):
We've talked about this, Colin, and I know you said
you remember his freshman year Arizona State when he weigh
one hundred and.

Speaker 8 (27:54):
Seventy pounds soaking wet. This guy is immensely talented.

Speaker 11 (27:57):
And I've talked so much at length with Cliff King's
and Dan Quinn about what's the upside Virginia Daniels.

Speaker 8 (28:03):
What does he give you?

Speaker 11 (28:04):
He's a franchise cornerstone. They believe in him. They're going
to develop him. But just like Kayleb Williams, it's not
a finished product. It's gonna take time.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Yeah, Bo Knicks wasn't bad, your guy. He had one
bad pick, but they asked him to throw forty two times.
He wasn't bad.

Speaker 8 (28:18):
He wasn't bad.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Shot back.

Speaker 11 (28:20):
I think bow Knicks he surprised me because he got better.
He locked in a little bit that that run was
everything you love about Bo Nicks. That touchdown run. He's
he's what they thought he was, and he's everything that
they haven't had. And the sixty one career starts in
college matters. I know he's older, but who cares. I
think by the end of the season, bow Knicks is

(28:41):
gonna be You're gonna look at him, You're gonna say,
this is the franchise quarterback for Denver.

Speaker 8 (28:45):
But I liked what I saw. I thought he was aggressive,
he takes shots, he's tough.

Speaker 11 (28:49):
And I talked to Patrick Sartan last week about him
before the first game, and I said, what is it
about bow Knicks that you like? And he said, the
number one thing that stands out bon Nicks is the
accuracy and the placement.

Speaker 8 (29:03):
It's very catchable ball. And for a corner of his
caliber to say that, I thought that was significant. I
like Bonnicks, and I think Sean's gonna make him a
very good quarterback.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
I've talked to Sean briefly texted him, and he thinks
he's got a real winner. It should also be noted
Jaden has a defensive coach. Pennix does, Yeah, Caleb does,
Drake may does. One of them as an offensive coach
for a rookie quarterback. That is something. Yeah, I don't
know what it is, is something. It is so sixty
one college starts. He's got his Franklin. The receiver is

(29:32):
a Troy from Yeah So's he's got that guy there.
And Peyton's just I mean, let's be honest. If you
could have a mentor and you read Shanahan, mcveigu, Kevin O'Connell,
Sean Payton. It matters, it does help, all right, good stuff.
Jordan Schultz, NFL Insider. He'll be on Speak today, just
flying in here with insider stuff. It's good to have

(29:54):
a partner like that you can depend on for insider stuff.
All right. I'm done for today, yes, and I'm staying
away from cigars and ice cream because that messed up
yesterday show.
