Give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour three The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the tire
Rag dot com studios. I gave you plenty of time
to get Hobo enty shirt. I give you plenty of time.
You missed it. You missed your hobo window. The hobo
window is closed. Hello, it never closes, it doesn't. There

(00:52):
is very much a Seinfeld George Frankestanza. Yeah, the hobo
window was closed. It's closed, Jerry. The Hobo wind don't
close because I'm gonna go out of Parkway and close Jerry. Uh,
incredible Thursday night football game. How about open a restaurant
the hobo window run it out? Insanity? Later did he

(01:15):
say you had to scream it? He wasn't clear. Uh.
We told you last night, Lions Packers is going to
be the best Thursday night football game of the year,
the highest rated Thursday night game. It was gonna be
the over Give me the Lions. I can't pick against
them at home. They're gonna have to show me that
they can't win before I'm gonna pick against them. I

(01:36):
lost three and a half. I just three. If you
got three and a half, you're happy. If you didn't
get three and a half, three or three and a
half closes it. Three and a half. That is the
definition of Sometimes you win. Sometimes you don't win because
you don't lose. You just don't win. You just have
Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't win. But the Lions

(01:56):
win it. They go for it on fourth down when
they could have kicked a game winning field goal or
go ahead field goal, and giving the ball back to
the Packers with about thirty ish seconds left. However, Dan
Campbell decides to run a play on fourth down. David
Montgomery gets the first down. They're able to take the
clock all the way down to two seconds left before

(02:16):
they kicked the field goal to win the game. Uh,
let's hear it. Let's hear the final call from the
Lions game. Throws it deep down field. It is a
game incomplete. That's it. What in the world game is over? Man?

Speaker 3 (02:32):
You talk about the world of practice van Over.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I okay, I did say the Lions final call. I
did say, let's hear the final that's still in the system.
Is it amazing? That's never leaving? Are you kidding? That's
never a week later? There it is no phone you did. Wow,
that was crystal clear, nicely done.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Give me the final call? The line I said to
Frostburg before that we started. I said, hey, give me
the final call the Lions game. He says, got it.
It's okay, great, that was the final call of the
Lions game. There would be some very interesting moments that
you could pull out of their pass. Yeah, oh yeah,
I'll call the Lions. But yeah, there it is the Bears.
Oh that and he didn't even get the ballved in
the end zone. But anyway, so let's hear the final

(03:18):
call of the Lions Packers game from tonight. There it
is Fox the whole kick away.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It is.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Good burn these Detroit Lions. You want to talk about grit?
You want to talk about determination? Do you want to
talk about resiliency. This team is all of those things.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
So there was thirty four to thirty one the final
you get look, and as we do in the NFL,
you have the happy side and the losing side. So
let's hear the Let's hear the final call the Lions
from the losing side.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Fifteen seconds, third and twenty six. Caleb's gotta make a
play here with eleven seconds to go in the game,
awaiting the snap, Gotta hurry it up. Seven six takes
the snap. Caleb Williams from the pocket sings it down
the field, twisting, turning inside the five as time expires
for Roma Dunes. Ay, that's it, no flags and the

(04:13):
ball game is over.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Time expires. I did say the final call of the
Lions game from the other side. I did not say
tonight's game. Yeah you did. Yeah, I know that was great.
That's what I really appreciate Rosberg and I having that
Aaron Rodgers DeVante Adams type of relationship where we know,
you know, you really really had the connection flowing there,
just like Jeff Joniak and Super Bowl champion Tom Thayer

(04:38):
had on that call. You see all the extra analysis
he gave on that that final play. As one of
the callers to the score, I reiterate, I'm not mad, pause, pause,
I'm just tired. Now, look here, here's the deal. Obviously, Yes,

(05:00):
will continue to jump up and down on the Bears.
A big run by David Montgomery for first down, fifty
yards rushing tonight. Look the rushing attack with Montgomery and Gibbs.
It was more balanced tonight. Look, the Lions have no
problems right now. But I'm sorry, but there is a
big thing with Dan Campbell's fourth down gambles. Right with

(05:20):
Campbell's gambling calling, Campbell's gambles gambling. Is he getta host
a game show after Travis Kelcey. Look, the gambles on
fourth down are great when they work, right. See, But
I'm old enough to remember the NFC Title game last
year when we're gonna go for it on fourth down
in the second half on the road in San Francisco,

(05:41):
and we didn't go to the Super Bowl because of it.
Right now, you did it three times tonight. You go
forward to the end of the end of the first half,
you throw a touchdown, you go for it on fourth
and one from your own thirty yard line, don't get it,
and you lose the lead, you go for it here
on fourth and one from the twenty yard line, where
a field goals gonna give you the lead, but yet

(06:01):
you have to defend for the last thirty seconds. Okay,
not ideal, but still most teams would say, listen, I'll
put my defense on the field to defend for thirty seconds.
We got to make sure we get the field goal,
because if we go for it on fourth and one
then and we don't get it, boy, that looks really
really bad. Now. I give Dan Campbell a lot of
credit because the guts to come back and say we're
still gonna go for it even though we got stopped.

(06:22):
Jamiir Gibbs got stopped the last time we went for it.
But these decisions are risky, and going for it on
fourth down is not an exact science where hey, we're
gonna get it x amount of times and we're going like.
It's a mentality that the Lions have, right. It's a
mentality that the Lions have with going for it on
fourth down. And I get it. But when I say
there's a concern, this is not about now or week

(06:44):
fifteen or Week sixteen. This is NFC Championship game. Type
concerns where hey, not all fourth down decisions are created equally, right,
Because just to use the NFC title game and what
we saw tonight as an example, right, It's one thing
to say, hey, we're gonna go for it on fourth
down a bunch of times week fourteen at home against

(07:05):
the Packers. Right, there's that. That's a great decision. It's
quite another to say we're gonna go for it on
fourth down on the road in the NFC Championship Game
and one time throw the ball to our fourth receiver
when everybody's nerves are kind of jangly and auDA. There's
there are two different circumstances. Just because something's a good
idea now doesn't mean in a month and a half

(07:29):
it's still a good idea. You know, when you fourth,
going for it on fourth down is always going to
be risky. It's never going to be something where, hey,
Dan Campbell and the Lions are pushing forth a new
thought in the NFL where go for it on fourth
down all the time, right, even the tush push, which
we thought this is gonna take off everybody around the
now teams don't even do it well. Jason Kelsey retired
and that's not work out. You know what, the other

(07:51):
teams have found a way to get around it. We
don't do that anymore. Okay, it's always gonna be risky.
So what Campbell is doing now, Hey, it works. And
again it's okay in the regular when you're eleven and one, Yeah,
go for it on four. It's fine when you're three
and nine, go for it on fourth down. But but
the time that I'm gonna say, it's it's weary. This
is you know, I'm old man in the woods in
a horror movie, going everything is fine right now because

(08:13):
your kids are all young and healthy and good looking,
and you're gonna go and and have sex and drink
beer and smoke in the woods, and then somebody's gonna
show up with a machete and kill you. Don't go
in there. Everything sounds great now when you hear buying
chips and beer and soda and everything else. Yeah, it's
awesome and beer, but it's all good. But but but
keep that here, man, don't go into the woods. There's

(08:35):
a guy there. He comes in here all the time
every Thursday, comes in. We play some cribbage together, you know,
you know, I I sell him some worms to fish.
He's a nice dude. He doesn't kill me because you know,
he's gotta have a cribbage partner. But you know, but
you the teenagers in the woods. Ah, you guys are
all fresh meat for him. Like it's it's not about
now for this, for for cambeling, it's about what it's
what it's gonna be like when you do this when

(08:57):
everything is on the line and it's the Visional Playoff
or the NFC title game and you you have a
chance to to take the lead. You have a chance
to do something positive, and instead it's a risk that
doesn't work out and it winds up biting you in
the ass at the absolute worst time. That's my concern
for the Lions, right. We talked about peaking and they

(09:18):
seem to be motoring towards the playoffs now. But campbelling
is a thing, man, and I get it's a mentality
and it's it's something that grows, and hey, when you know,
the more you make it, the more great it is.
But it's always going to be a risk and that
and with risks, ostensibly and invariably it comes back to, hey,
the one time we got to have something on fourth down,
we decide to do it when maybe we're gonna get it,

(09:39):
maybe we're not gonna get it. It doesn't turn out
to go our way because it's not just fourth and
a half yard line. He's going for it on. He
goes for it on fourth and half the yard fourth
and two, fourth and six, fourth and eight, like this
is when he decides to go for It's like, dude,
fourth and eight, No one's gonna tell you to go forth.
Sometimes it works out great, and over the course of
a game in the regular season, keep getting the ball

(10:00):
back and your offense is putting up a lot of points. Yeah,
it's great. But NFC Title game against the Eagles, when
suddenly it's fourth and one on that forty six yard line,
you say, let's let's go for it. Man, what you're
up by a field goal with two minutes left, No,
we can end the game right here. And you get stuffed.
And suddenly Saquon Barkley's catching a couple of passes out
of the backfield and the Eagles are lining up for

(10:21):
a field goal, and suddenly Nick Sirianni's walking off the
field going we're going back to the Super Bowl, telling
you that's my concern for the lines. That's why this
fourth done stuff with Dan Campbell. It's a risk four
out of five to night in the victory, thirteen minutes
more time of possession. They ran an extra thirty plays.
Just keep on going, margin to victory, the field goal,

(10:44):
you're fourth down man in the woods. It's fine, but
it's all about the excellence of execution and the guy
that you are. Bo. Wait, let's be honest, and you're
just thinking back to going camping over a weekend and
buying beer at a convenience store right now, you're just
thinking about I remember the time I went camping with
my family and a listener found me in the woods. Oh,
you thought you're gonna die. There was a percentage chance

(11:06):
at the moment in the act certainly thought we were
gonna die. Instead, it was a couple of folk polaroids,
and I'm like, don't forget what my car looks like.
You're like the Wallows on nineteen eighties horror film ding
Ding Ding ding ding, Yeah, all of those things. But
to me, it's this is who Dan Campbell is. This
is what you're going to get. Now, the defense then

(11:29):
let them down, right. I on one of those fourth
down possessions and decisions when they fail. What happened seven place,
seventy yard drive. Okay, the call might have been bad.
You might not like that. You might say too risky
and obviously hindsight always twenty twenty you mentioned Josh Reynolds
being the target of one of those. But when they

(11:50):
give up seven plays seventy ad, your defense has to
go out and do its job. Sure, right, So it's
it's the cohesive unit, right, This is I trust you.
You trust me. We're gonna hold out? Are who are you? Barney?
I trust you? You trust Yeah, we're in the trust tree.
That's how we're doing trust me. That's right. I'm a

(12:12):
trust fun baby. You could trust me. Okay, I thought
we were in the I went trust I went Barney
to Hamilton. Man, I'm all over right now, I've had
a lot of coffee. I'm good, man, I'm good, and
I end up going into the therapist. You know, I
don't know what's under there. I mean, I just don't know.
Maybe it's something I've never seen. I thought we were
in the we're in the circle of trust. But just

(12:33):
that idea that for Campbell, this is how they run
their offense, and it might be foolhardy at times, it's
not gonna go away. That's why I'm telling you if
you suddenly thinking away that this is gonna be a
vast departure from the guy you've seen, I would be
absolutely shocked if suddenly, you know what, it's fourth and two,

(12:56):
bring out the kicker for that forty eight hour swirl
in the wind now at Philly, gonna push the push
the envelope one too many. That's a big fear, man.
That's my There's not a lot of fears I have
for the Lions, but there is, Sirianni. Come on, let's
go cambling. Let's go Christmas gambling. Christmas time is here,
going to four and fourth down is near the Jason

(13:18):
Smith Show with Mike Carmon Life the tire rack dot
Com Studio. So put a pin in that. I'm telling you,
let's see Divisional Championship game. I just felt really good
about us converting. We have more on this game coming
up next. Plus you're not going to believe where Bill
Belichick has talked to and who he's talking to to

(13:40):
potentially return to coaching. So we got that story coming
up in a few minutes because we saw today that
maybe he's not coming back to the NFL, maybe he
is gonna be getting someplace else Canadian Football League. For
Bill Belichick, we'll talk about the we're onto the rough Riders.
We're onto the rough Riders. But you just played the
rough Riders, the other rough Riders to teams, both rough

(14:00):
Righters of other rough Riders. We got rough Riders. We're
going to have that coming up next. But right now,
joining us on the hotline, one of the heroes for
the Lions tonight, running back David Montgomery, congratulates on the wind. David,
how you doing Yeah?

Speaker 5 (14:13):
How you doing good?

Speaker 1 (14:14):
All right, So take me through everything that went on
that fourth down play getting set for goal. You know,
everybody's thinking a field goal and you guys going for
it on fourth down.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
I mean it's our Dan Campbell would trusting his players.

Speaker 7 (14:27):
You know, we prepare all week for going.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
Over and fourth down, and we didn't convert earlier in
the game a couple of times. But when we did
have our opportunity to convert, we were able to make
that happen.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
So he falls down, he's still able to get the
ball into your hands. There's no doubt. We talk about
it a lot, the Sonic Knuckles connection and watching the
tough runs for you, David, celind the deal here.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
Yeah, yeah, I think any any chance that I get to,
you know, get opportunity to kind of go out and perform,
and you know what I'm saying, put the best, my
best work out there, I'm sure that I'm able to
capital love. So whenever my numbers called, I'm just sure
to be.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Prepared for it. Was there a little bit of concern
when when when golf fell down and no, you're.

Speaker 7 (15:08):
Okay, Nah, I know he's going to be find a
way to get to me, whether he had to throw
it to me or he was gonna have to drive
it to me, but he did.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
So the run you guys are on right now coming
off of that crazy ass game a week ago Thursday.
I'm a Chicago guy, David, so I'm still there's still
giving me all sorts of highlights on that. Uh what's
that week of emotion like coming back to another big
divisional game tonight.

Speaker 5 (15:33):
Well, we flessed the moment after we won. So we
won and we just moved on.

Speaker 7 (15:36):
So it was it was cool, But the game's over
now we're going to move on in Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
All right, So let me how about on a scale
of one to ten, with one being you don't ten
being you love it. You guys like the Sonic and
Knuckles nickname you engineer eleven eleven, Yeah, okay, all right.

Speaker 7 (15:52):
It's better than peanut butter and jelly.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
That's a fair point.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Now.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
I know in Detroit, because my whole family's in Detroit,
you can go and do all kinds of stuff with
Sonic Burger and got all kinds of autograph signings and stuff. Like,
I'm seeing lots of money coming your way.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
I can't answer that question.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
He's just trying to get you paid, David. That's all David.
Congratulations on the win, thirty four to thirty one. Lins,
get the w best of luck. Rest of the way.
We'll talk to you down the road.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
All right, thank you?

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Right eleven eleven on Sonic and Knuckles Ready for that
new release? Yeah yeah, I mean I was just looking
to get him some money. Oh, I get it. There's
Sonic Burger is all kind. Look I go down River
for there's lots of Sonic Burger. Now you have to
go find out did he have a deal with another
burger place. Oh that could maybe all maybe he's got
a white Castle deal.

Speaker 8 (16:40):
Oh maybe he's a vegetarian.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
You have to think about that. Yeah, but his nickname
is Sonic. He hates you because he did have that carrot.
He did have that carrot on. Absolutely a vegetarian. You
could you can sign autographs for twenty five meat places.
He's got got substitute education in Detroit, they got they
can have him possible burgers there, they got impossible burgers.

(17:02):
You can have it, dude, if he can go to
Sonic with Jami or Gibbs and sign autographs and make
twenty five bucks apiece, not.

Speaker 8 (17:09):
The same guys never coming back on again.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Coming up next, he has more on this game and
where Bill Belichick could be heading up next year in football.
That's next. Jason to Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio App.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Okay, so everybody's mad at me? Why is everybody mad?
Time out? We're not that Rosberg's mad. Monsey is mad.
Everybody's mad for no reason, for reason. You hang on. No,
David Montgomery is not mad at me.

Speaker 8 (17:49):
I guarantee you he is.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
How is he mad? It's okay, okay, hang on, let
me let let me go back, like like Enigo Montoya says,
let me go back to the beginning. So we had
David Montgomery on the show a few minutes ago. No, no,
this is this is just no, no, this is not
my history, tight shirt. This is just what just happened. Well,
it is part of your history. Now, long long time.

(18:10):
It's in the timeline. Lions win tonight thirty four to
thirty one. One of the biggest plays of the night,
the fourth down play the Lions handed up to Montgomery
goes over the right side for a first down. Great
interview with David Montgomery talked to us about the play.
Always knew somehow Jared Goff was gonna get him the
football even though he fell trying to hand it out.
I love that he's gonna drive it to me. I'm

(18:31):
shocking the music. Yeah. We talked about the nickname Sonic
and Knuckles, which is probably the best nickname in all
of the NFL.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
He and jamieer Gibbs nicknamed Sonic and Knuckles from the
video game. Neither of them know which way where the
nickname actually came from, but Sonic and Knuckles came out.
I was Jamiir Gibbs and his speed is sonic, thundering,
lightning at the old one. He came from Sega Yo,
and yes, why they were nicknamed Sonic and Knuckles. Thanks?
Who's wondering? Thanks? Thanks? No, they don't know who came

(18:59):
up with it first for both. Yes, I know Sega
came up with Sonic and Knuckles. That's the game. I've
played the game. They're one. They don't know who put
the moniker on them. They don't know put the monic.
It's okay, yes, thank you, thank you. Justin head you
hit it. Yes, Sega's got okay. But so that's a

(19:21):
great nickname, right Obviously Gibbs with his speed is sonic
and Montgomery with more physical style of Knuckles more power.
So I asked him at the end, Hey, how do
you feel about the nickname? Scale of one to tenni
set eleven? We love the nickname. Love the nickname.

Speaker 9 (19:33):
Now.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Of course, my family is all from Detroit, my wife's family.
I go back there on vacation, going back soon. I've
had the lions back for the last couple of years
now and have them such a high point right right
at that peak right there, and then you have to
do I was fin listen, No, not okay. So the
as a joke to try to find a way to

(19:54):
make David Montgomery some money, I asked him. I said, hey,
you know there's a lot of Sonic Burgers in the
Greater Detroit area. I know because they're Sonic Burgers near
my wife's house. And I thought maybe he and Jamier
Gibbs could go to Sonic and have some kind of
appearance there and they can make some money and sign autographs.
And this is how the end of the interview went.
Now I know in Detroit, because my whole family's in Detroit,

(20:16):
you guys can go and do all kinds of stuff
with Sonic Burger and all kinds of autograph signings and
stuff like, I'm seeing lots of money coming your way.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
I can't answer that question.

Speaker 8 (20:28):
But did you not get an answer?

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Okay? Now, he laughed at him. Okay, no, I let
me first of all, because he said he didn't get mad.
He says, Hi, I can't answer it. He was enjoying
the question. He was basking in the glow of the fun. Now,
he did not sound he did not sound angry. He
was fine. David Montgomery was fine.

Speaker 7 (20:48):
Now what I know.

Speaker 5 (20:49):
I can't answer that question. Sorry, you go.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
He didn't say. He didn't say lose my number. Don't
ever in a fake Lions guy? No, no, no, he didn't.
You a Jets fan, No, he didn't do that. But
you and ty Shirt and Monsey all get mad at
me because I didn't know this. But David Montgomery is
a vegan. Now he's one of my favorite guys. You
know that he's a vegan. I didn't know. I didn't

(21:12):
know the dietary habits of David Montgott. I just remember
it on Thanksgiving Day. I know they gave him a
carrot while everybody else was ripping into turkey legs. Okay, yes,
And so you're mad at me. No, I'm not mad.
You guys are all mad. I say, no, I'm not.
I don't agree with Justin. I don't think he was upset.
I think I don't agree, but I just you know.

Speaker 9 (21:35):
The vegan which is different than vegetarian, right, And so
I think after the carrot incident, everybody on the internet
wanted to know why he was eating a carrot, and
the story is that he's been a vegan since he
was with the Bears in twenty twenty is when it started.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Okay, so it's been a while, just since.

Speaker 8 (21:51):
That's not how this show works.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Very mad at Jason. He's going to run you over
and he has so no no, but I want to
say that the series and Detroit gonna take you out.
He doesn't have to have a burger. I wasn't saying
you just me some kind of eating. I just said, hey,
go there because you know Sonic and Knuckles Sonic burger,

(22:14):
you and Jamyr Okay, great, go there and sign autographs
and make some money. That's what I was. He doesn't
have to have a burger. He can still get to
Sonic and sign, can't he See. I tried to massage
this situation by just saying, hey, he's just trying to
get your paid.

Speaker 7 (22:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
I mean, like, did you mock him?

Speaker 8 (22:28):
You laughed at him as you ended the laughter he said.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Because he's funny, says he can't answer that question, like, okay,
I can't. There was that. I was just trying he
didn't have to have a burger. He could just go
there and sign autographs. That's all I was saying. Aren't
Sonic and Knuckles? Is he Sonic or Knuckles? He's not?

Speaker 8 (22:45):
Oh my god, he's knuckles strong.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Knuckles is He's gonna give you a knuckles Knuckles strong,
knocked out of a burger. Knuckles is physical? How is
this vegan Knuckles? I don't. You're the one that told me.
I thought you had all the answers. I didn't know.
That's why we're in this mess. Right there, there was
he right there. You told me meat head. Now listen,

(23:09):
an agent's not gonna call him and say, hey, go here,
eat the food and sign. I'll go there. Sign on.

Speaker 8 (23:16):
Else would you go to Sonic if you're not eating
the food.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Because because it's part of the nickname, it's Sonic and Knuckles.
If there was Knuckles Burger, he would go to Knuckles Burger.
His Knuckles Burger replaced somewhere his Knucklesburger Pencilvanna come, my
cousin lives in Knuckles Burger, South Carolina, Just so you know. Like,
but there's not but Sonic. That's that there's money to
be made there. Like Jimmy Foullon almost famous Hey, I'd
find a pogo stick if I could get to another

(23:40):
more gigs in time. There is a knuckle Sandwiches. Uh,
actually on South Figueroa. That's here in l A. Yeah, okay,
I mean in Detroit that doesn't do any good. Here
is great? Is there something in Detroit? Is there knuckle
sandwiches on every street corner they're waiting for him. Detroit
is top. Waiting for Detroit is a very tough to

(24:00):
It is very difficult. I did a search knuckle knuckles burger,
knuckles Burger, knuckles Burger, Yeah, Mercury Burger and bar. They
may have something called a knuckles burger. Okay, so I Frostburg.
I think everything is fine.

Speaker 8 (24:15):
I mean you can think that.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Why do you think he's upset? I got you. He
hung up the phone and said, hey, I'm not going
to eat there, but let's do something that's sonic. Yeah,
let's go, man, let's go.

Speaker 8 (24:26):
I'm pretty sure that's not how that ended.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
I lose my number. I'm pretty sure it's okay, play
it again, Play the answer again. There's a big knuckle
burger in Ohio. He's having fun with you. Stuff like
I'm seeing lots of money coming your way.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
I can't answer that question.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Okay, all right, it was fine. He was very He
was very. No. Did he laugh a lot on this
not just not just the fake laugh. We have fun
on this show. We laughed. It was funny. He gave
a funny answer, He gave the uh, he gave the
pitch perfect rebel. Wilson h yeah, I can't answer that.

Speaker 8 (25:07):
That was the mean laugh he does.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
It was not a mean laugh. He would have hunt
up if he was really mad. Who's this guy? Click?
I'm gonna hear him talking after the clip? He was
he was fine. I said, congratulations, we'll see it.

Speaker 8 (25:18):
He wasn't there at that point.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
He Everything was fine, every everything was absolutely fine. Do
you think he hates you? No? Is he trying to
campaign that you can't come back to Detroit. He hung
up the phone and said, who is this guy to
interve you with? That didn't know I was a vegan?
Who is that guy? Who is that guy? Let's never
talk to him again. Well, he couldn't tell him who
the interview was with because he would have never done it.

Speaker 8 (25:41):
You cost the lions of Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (25:43):
What did you what did you just? What did you say?
You want to go on with our guys. What do
they say?

Speaker 8 (25:47):
I got two knuckleheads ready to say hello.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Oh my nickname is knuckles. I'll talk to them. Go ahead. Sure,
that's like one step of move from past the phone
around at Thanksgiving when you call up and go, oh,
who is this? Who is this? That's your uncle? Oh
hey uncle Bill? How you doing great? Greg? I'm about
to eat some pumpkin pie. Here, talk to your runt.
How he had one of those. It was someone I
had talked to him like twenty years O. I the

(26:09):
hell you give me the phone for guy has the
game of his life. You wave a burger in his
face and laugh at him. Okay, he ran for fifty
one yards, had a big first down in a touchdown. Okay,
let's let's come on now, you had five catch him
on thirty two yards. He had a good game right
there the Lions image.

Speaker 8 (26:23):
If you do different jet running back did that, he'd
be in their Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Waving a burger. That's what I do. Wave a burger
at him as he runs through the line of scrimmage. Hey,
come eat this not like a bull like? Is it
a red wrapping? Suddenly have the big have the big
red cape and there's a whole marketing campaign right there. Yeah, no,
I knew Burger joined. I think the Lions still love me.

(26:49):
I think Montgomery is fine. I think everything is okay.
I really do. I think it's well. But I mean,
if it spurs him on, because you know he hates you,
that's good for the Lions and all your predictions of
their greatness. Coaches, give me the football, why you motivated? Yeah,
that dude that didn't know I wasn't a vegan, on
to show him again that he was what he didn't
know I was a vegan? No, yeah, you see, you

(27:11):
see they all tried to tell about what was going on.
That that that that update anker Montsy who bets on
the Clippers all the time, She tried to tell him
what was going on.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Yeah no.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
And then what I like is the guy who always
talks about healthy food didn't say a bleeping word during
the entire conversation. Ty Shirt's the guy who knows stuff
about healthy food, and he stayed silent the entire way.
Give me the ball, coach, I'm ready excise it to me.
Unfourthd down, Oh it, golf, don't fall down, right, try
to say, you on your feet, all right, blues riff
and be watch me for the change and try to

(27:40):
keep up. All right, all right, let's go time now
to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Because you're this is like, this is like in your wheelhouse,
this health food stun. You just had to say, Alex,
I have a question. So what I'm thinking is I
was right because you would have jumped into Saint Jane Jay,
look at you? Did you talked about You would have
jumped in to say that, but you didn't. Wait were

(28:03):
you were you? Were you doing something on Fortnite? Or
were you building grunts on one of your games or something.

Speaker 8 (28:08):
Like some I played a video game, Jason, two nights ago.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
No, before I had a girlfriend? Oh okay, okay, you
just drop that in there. Yeah so wait, so is
it your girlfriend that was in Canada? So wait? So
six weeks ago? Six weeks ago? No, like a year ago?
Oh okay? Really been that long? She's made you give
up video games?

Speaker 2 (28:27):
No?

Speaker 1 (28:27):
I did myself. Why did you have to? I don't
have time. I have time for video game? It was
time for the five day work week gone. Here's here's
how much. I love you. I don't play Halo anymore.
Nobody does.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
But that's what video games?

Speaker 9 (28:44):
Were you playing?

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Not really anything? You play video games and middle of
the show, No, you get ready for whatever assault you
have on Farmville or whatever the hell you're doing. Whoa, whoa,
there's an assault on farm Yeah. He gives me invitations
to play Farmville all the time, like it's two thousand
and four. On Facebook, I get all kinds of those
form us his Facebook.

Speaker 9 (29:07):
I'm still playing Super Mario games on like a switch
and stuff.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
And you're on, and you're on Friends to friends. Friendster
hasn't been around friends. There's a tumbleweed of social media,
blue sky.

Speaker 8 (29:21):
What are you talking about? My Space?

Speaker 9 (29:23):
My Space?

Speaker 1 (29:25):
Eli than that? Your first friend ever? Your friend with Tom? Yeah,
everyone everyone's friend. Tom couldn't wear a better T shirt
for that picture. He's good, But Tom, you you man,
I'm just gonna white shirt. What do you mean better shirt?
I'm just gonna wear a white T shirt, not even
face the cabinet. Hey, I'm so good, so good with
the white board. It's true, it's true, speaking of so much.

(29:45):
What's trying to lead with Big Bodega? That was not
what I'm leading with. The Lions are what I'm leaning with.

Speaker 9 (29:51):
They are still so good, winning eleven in a row
for the first time in franchise history, walking it off
with the thirty five yard field goal from Jake Baits
to beat the Packers.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Thirty four to thirty one.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
They're headed to the playoffs. No surprise there.

Speaker 9 (30:04):
Jared Goff threw for two hundred and eighty three yards
three touchdowns. He had one interception. Two of those touchdowns
went to Tim Patrick and you mentioned did harmon. It
had been one thousy eighty two days since he actually
caught a touchdown and also some major injuries in between
all that. So what a big moment for Tim Patrick.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
That's how many days it's been since the last Jets win.

Speaker 9 (30:23):
Yes, that's also but the Jets and hockey one today,
so at least.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
There's that just a yet shoe. Yeah, it's like Harry Potter.
One one cannot live while the other survives. One Jets
is good, the other Jets is not good in.

Speaker 9 (30:35):
Losing that for Josh Jacobs did have a hat trick.
He had eighteen carry sixty six yards and three touchdowns.
We're gonna move on to the NBA. The final game
has wrapped up. The Warriors snapped their five game losing streak.
They beat the Rockets ninety nine to ninety three, without
Steph Curry and without Draymond Green. The Bulls cruise passed
the Spurs one thirty nine to one twenty four. The
Pelicans edge the Suns one twenty six to one twenty four.

(30:58):
The Grizzlies outscored the King's one fifteen to one ten.
Ja Moran did get ejected halfway through the fourth quarter
after receiving a second technical foul. The Knicks have one
four in a row. They beat the Hornets won twenty
five to one oh one. Karl Anthony Towns Big Bodega
twenty seven points sixteen rebounds. The Thunder outscored the Raptors
one twenty nine to ninety two. Shay Gilgess Alexander thirty
points in the win. You guys know the Wizards have

(31:20):
lost sixteen in a row. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
That's it. That's it. Yeah, I didn't know that they
had lost sixteen in a row.

Speaker 9 (31:27):
Today with the Mavericks winning one thirty seven to one
oh one, Luka danceec a triple double, Nicole Yogic had
a triple double, but it didn't matter. The Cavs still
beat the Nuggets one twenty six to one fourteen. They're
the first team to reach twenty wins this season and
last year. The Nets and the Suns are gonna play
two preseason games in McCaw next October in China?

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Is that right? Yeah? Is that how you say that? Sure? Okay?

Speaker 9 (31:51):
Sure, so this will be the first time the NBA
returns to China since twenty nineteen.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
What mcow to be macaw?

Speaker 9 (32:00):
Right?

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Yeah? No. It's also really sad for the Wizards. They
really could have capitalized at all this damn you know,
wicked stuffed. Instead, you're lose sixteen in a row. Jeff
Goldblum to see the Wizard there. Jeff Goldblum comes and
coaches a team for a night.

Speaker 9 (32:19):
Sure, yeah, you know, invite ariana Grande courtside.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Do something. Have a little drink, my real bad team,
have a little drink of the green a lick, sir,
have a little drink. Movie was terrible?

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Was it?

Speaker 9 (32:34):
He didn't like it?

Speaker 1 (32:35):
It wasn't. I thought it was overblown and well, first
of all, it was way too long, way too long.

Speaker 9 (32:39):
I heard I've seen so long the Broadway Show multiple times.
I heard that it'sion.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
I went to see it Friday. I'm still in the movie. Now,
that's how long it's It's incredibly long. It's incredibly long.
But Arianna Grande is fantastical. Okay, she is on the
roll born.

Speaker 9 (33:00):
So still watch It's.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
That question, and I know I'm gonna wind up taking
my daughter back to the sing along version exact. I
have sing along versions coming.

Speaker 9 (33:09):
How is that just not naturally happening without you?

Speaker 1 (33:12):
You do not sing? What other people have to enjoy
the movie? You do not sing? They even tell people
they go before somebody walks into theater and says, okay,
you're gonna see Wicked. Just so you know, there's no singing.
Please everybody enjoy the movie. Yeah, turn your turn, your
device and everything else.

Speaker 8 (33:27):
No singing, no singing.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Well, the more you know, there, you go exactly want
to grow on. Thank you, Monsley. The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmon Liverom thetireg dot Com Studios. We'll have
more on the Lines and the Packers coming up in
a few minutes, but straight ahead, Yeah, Bill Belichick could
be back, coming back to a football sideline near you
next year. Wait, did we tell you where it might be?

(33:50):
That's next Jason to Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm ET seven
pm Pacific five.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Second Dance Party Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show
with My best friend Mike Harmon live from the Tirack
dot Com studios. More on the lines than the packers
coming up at about ten minutes. But I know you
were as shocked as I was today with you probably
woke up and saw the story or saw the story

(34:22):
break middle of the day. Wait a minute. Bill Belichick
has spoken to the University of North Carolina about their
head coaching job. Come on, raise up in college basketball,
which makes it really to take over for Mack Brown,
who has let go about a week and a half ago,
but allowed to coach the last game of the year
for North Carolina. But Belichick has spoken to the North

(34:44):
Carolina tar Heels about returning to the sideline to coach them. Okay,
now what is this. Luckily you asked the question or
I asked he rhetorically, because it's one of two things. Right,
We're still gathering a lot of information. It's one of
two things. Belichick is either ready to start greasing the
skids towards an NFL return and can't talk to anybody

(35:09):
right now because the season's still going on and guys
have jobs. So let me talk to the one place
that has an opening right because Mac Brown was fired
like everybody, you know, that's the only place I was
pissed get to finish either. That's the only place that
really still that has an opening that hasn't been filled
as North Carolina. So I'll talk to North Carolina and

(35:29):
that lets everybody know I'm back on the market. I'm
really ready because I'm sure a lot of teams as
much as they would potentially want to talk to Bill Belichick. Yay,
Is he really that interested? Does he want to stay?
He looks like he's having fun with Pat McAfee every week.
I don't know. Now this is him saying I want
to let you know I'm ready to come back, and
this gets NFL teams excited, or and this is the

(35:51):
dark side for Bill Belichick. You know he wants to
come back and coach in the NFL. You know he
wants a breakdown Cheles record we've heard that maybe the Cowboys,
maybe the Giants, maybe the Jacksonvillejas. The other flip side
of this is is that maybe he's talking in North
Carolina because he knows NFL teams don't want him, and
all of this matchmaking that is being done with Belichick

(36:15):
and the Jaguars and the Giants and the Cowboys is
just being done by us. Because if he thought he
had a chance in hell at coming back to the NFL,
why the hell is he talking to North Carolina. If
he thought one of these teams is gonna hire, I
just got to wait it out. Why is he talking
to North Carolina? So it's one of these two things,
which is which is what's going to Either the NFL

(36:35):
has told him no and he wants to coach. So
I'm gonna go back to common. I'm gonna find a
way to get back to a sideline and prove that
I can win, and if I win for a couple
of years at North Carolina, maybe the NFL will call
me I can coach. T I'm seventy five, seventy six
years old, I'm dating a twenty two year old girl.
I gotta be active, I gotta cach. I gotta be
able to go on hikes and all kinds of stuff,

(36:56):
and you know, find out where my top five Spotify
artists are am my playlist at the end of the year.
Who was it, I gotta find all of this it
was It was Puren from Queen No. Uh So one
of those things is true. One of those things is
whether it is again, whether it's Hey, here's a message.
And the only team I can really talk to right
now is North Carolina or the NFL has said yeah, sorry, Bill,

(37:21):
you know, we we they Anybody could have had him
last year, anybody. He had a two interview lead over anybody,
every and everybody with the Falcons, and he couldn't get
the job. Anybody could have had him last year. And
I get that in a year where hey, my team
is underachieving, maybe Belichick starts to look okay or look
a little bit better. Oh it's better than what we have.
We got to find some way to figure things out,

(37:42):
some way to get everything back to zero. And maybe
Belichick is a guy you know, the floor is going
to be really high with him. Maybe the ceiling isn't high,
but the floor is high. But what if they have
just told him, yeah, Bill, Sorry, we've moved on and
you're not going to be part of who we talked
to for next year in the NFL. No, it's the
cureuriosity right of you know, I'd love to be in

(38:02):
the room with this one. I mean the room where
it happened. Since we cycle back to Hamilton references and
all our pop culture fund from time to time, is
what's that interview look like? For Bill Belichick in this
day and age? It was always good at delegating right,
brought in a lot of assistance, gave them a lot
of control either side of the ball. But the devil

(38:24):
in the details. That's when Bill went to work right
in between the rule book and where you can find
the wrinkles, and certainly defensively and overall, I mean usually
got the most out of whatever roster they assembled. Just
shouldn't have been trusted putting the groceries in the cart.
And that's where the college thing is kind of interesting.
It's kind of a spin on the Lincoln Riley thing

(38:46):
the other day. No, No, I'm a trojan. I don't
want to go to UCF. Did you see F really call?
Are we sure? Why is USC calling me asking me
if I need a ride to the airport. Where am
I going? Do I have a ticket somewhere? We're going
on I'm really sure that they called it like, hey,
I'm still in demand. Even fly you on our own
private plane to take that UCF drop. It's a one

(39:08):
way ticket. You're going. We're landing, and then we're not
even gonna stop the plane. You're gonna have to jump
out shoot once we hit the ground that we're going
right back up and leave. Like in a World War
Z when the plane lands and they go no, get
back up in the air. They go back up in
the air, take off. No, that works really well. But yeah,
it's it's really fascinating development. I guess not completely out
of the you know, realm of possibility, that it's a

(39:31):
legitimate desire to be on the collegiate level. But that
said again, there's so many wrinkles to what college football
is right now. Everybody's diving away. I mean, I guess
this is the I'm going to zag while everybody's in
you're running away from college football. I'm gonna come and
take over. Just think one of those things is true
for Bill Bellichet, you we'll have more no no jets

(39:55):
may be going deep to get their next head coach. Well,
haven't been on that? Coming up next, more on Bell
chick In. More on the Lion's thrilling victory over the
Packers thirty four to thirty one. This is Fox Sports Radio.
