of those virtual reality things, Mike Carmon, where you put
one of those headsets on and everywhere you look there's
something big, whether it's the NFL game in Brazil or
something from baseball and the big Caitlyn Clark game tonight.
Looking at college football tomorrow, it's like, wherever you go,
you can't miss. It's one of those.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
I've had I think four different screens going on. I've
done the multi ass thing that they allow you to do.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
One of the.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Perks of some of the new streamers, they're getting cute
and creative with what they're doing, almost like you're watching,
you know, a Sunday full of football. But I've got football,
I've got basketball, I've got college football. It's just a
century overload. The White Sox lost again, so I've got
everything I need.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Hey, dude, my aunt was at the game tonight, her
first ever baseball game. How about that. She's retired. She's
my aunt that knows absolutely nothing about sports. Sure, Like
she's the one I keep saying we should do this
thing called ask Aunt Janet because she doesn't know any
I know nothing about sports. But she's retired. Her and
her husband, my aunt and uncle. They drive around the
country and they like to travel and stuff, which is
(01:55):
very intoxicated to do something like that. So they decided
we're gonna go to a baseball game. You know, Randy
wants to go to the game or go And her
first baseball game was tonight and she went to see
the Red Sox and the White Sox and Fenway she's
sending me pictures. Are these good seats? Is this gonna
be a good game? And I said, well, I'll tell
you this. The Red Sox are most likely going to win.
How do you know, Well, well, let me tell you
(02:16):
about the Chicago White Sox for a second. Sure enough
something She watched the lost number one hundred and ten
for the White Sox tonight.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
I gotta say there.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Is something intriguing about the idea of once the kids
are off to college, you get yourself a nice RV.
Make sure you got a good satellite dish so you
can connect the ComRes on the road. Why not go
station to station and visit all the affiliates.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
I like, I'm gonna follow the White Sox around the country,
all right, Wait, wait, wait, let's think about something different
than that. No, no, no, I want to fuddle the
White Sox around the country.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Look, man, I'll start looking like I'm aging like a president.
What happened? This was spring training. He's hanging out, he's
at Camelback. Whoa, he's fired up.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
And then Kate one look at he's.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Still bright eyed and they asked him to throw out
a first pitch. He's excited. Game one sixty two. He's
beaten down. He's beaten down, and now he's wearing nothing
but football gear because the Wildcats embarrass.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Are in the seats. But look obviously all eyes well
when they weren't on the Mets tonight, all eyes in
Brazil for the first ever NFL game. We're at halftime.
Packers lead the Eagles nineteen to seventeen. Halftime show going
on right now, and it's no facular. I know many
people are got peak. I got a five. I know,
(03:36):
I know Peacock still sneaks up on people right now.
How much planning today, it still sneaks up on people.
It's like, okay, this like see, that's the difference between
when ESPN and Direct TV decided to say, oh, hey,
guess what, Yeah, you're not getting a game in twenty minutes. Yeah, sorry,
the carriage dispute is done, so you're not gonna get
to watch USC and LSU. Sorry, we're gonna do it
(03:57):
right here and hold you hostage. At least you know
there was leading up, you knew the game was on. Peacock,
I don't have a lot of sympathy because you knew
the game was on. You knew the game was, I
don't care that it's Friday. Oh I worked all week.
I want to come up.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, everybody works all week.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Everybody wants to watch the game. They've done a good
enough job to let you know exactly where the game
is now getting it. I understand, and I understand that
now there's eleven different places you need to have, or
need to own or subscribe to if you want to
watch every single game this year, which is something the
NFL is gonna really out the deal because they're gonna
suddenly say, oh, we can't spread ourselves too thin. But
(04:30):
tonight for this, you knew it was on Peacock, and
so hopefully you're able to watch it.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, not to you know, beat beat the proverbial dead
horse on the other carriage dispute. I mean, there were
plenty of noticeses, plenty of scrawls, just not as intense
as it normally is. And generally what happens, it's like
a storm that's coming, like, hey, you should probably evacuate. Ah,
we've been here for thirty years. None of that crab's
gonna happen. And then all of a sudden, the storm's
(04:55):
on top of you and you're suddenly in the land
of Oz. I mean, craziness happens, and that's exactly what
it is.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Like.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
You go to read an article.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Now you've got in your right or left navigation, you
gotta add that pops up. By the way, if you're
affected by dispute, this dispute, here's the way is to
communicate and contact folks and tell them how mad you are.
And then you've got websites popping up saying here's here's
how you get around it. Here's the other options that
you have to go find some of those channels that
(05:25):
you're now mad.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
You didn't get. But for Peacock, Yeah, there was no
hiding from this one.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
This was well.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Publicized.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Its a rival, if nothing else, it was at the
bottom of everything you watched or or read about the
problems that these guys were talking about for months between
the Colored Green and what they needed to do around hotels.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
It's been there in the background the whole time.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Don't forget, game is on Peacock, Games on Peacock. So
how to break things down? How to sum up the
first half between the Packers and the Eagles. It's a
lot like one of those NFL you get at the
end of the regular season where there's just enough snow
and ice on the field to make it so incredibly slippery,
(06:10):
where the defense has trouble making tackles because offensive players
catch the ball, make a juke in their gongs. Everybody
slipping and sliding, and as a result, we get like
twelve eighty yard plays in a game, and it's wow,
look at all this, because that's what the first half
was like, big play after big play because the field
nobody can stand up on it. It is in terrible shape.
(06:30):
It is slippery. There are players still slipping on every
single play. Jayden Read's touchdown eighty yards, somebody slips in, falls,
Sakuon Barkley's touchdown, somebody slips in, falls, No one can
keep purchase. And that's kind of what we're looking at
in that that's how this game is going, where if
there's a big play in open space, it can go
for six. And as the time goes on, you see
(06:52):
the halftime adjustments teams are gonna have, You're gonna see
more big plays, which is fun. Right. Hey, we had
a game last night where boy, fantasy points, come on,
come on, We're going all the fantasy points to night
because we're getting extremely big plays, and you know, it's
great to see because everybody loves seeing big plays. But
how many times are we going to see a big game,
whether it's an international game or a Super Bowl, where
(07:14):
the field sucks and the players slip on it and
keep it all the time paint?
Speaker 3 (07:20):
How many times not being able to account for what
it's like at a different time of year. Right, what
the the climate is all about? I mean, did they
bring enough cleats? I mean, what's the equipment budget to
carry things over? Did they have the proper, proper stuff
on the sideline at halftime to make all those adjustments?
Speaker 1 (07:37):
I like, how that's always the thing. Oh, we have
to change our cleats if the field sucks, it doesn't matter.
What doesn't matter if you're wearing like hiking boots in
the snow.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
That people wearing some of those too, That's right, All
of a sudden, you got the giant blades underneath your feet,
just like your wolverine.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
That's how. That's how I'm running because and I don't
know how many times we have to get through because
there's the problems that are the micro problems, which are Hey,
MetLife Stadium has the worst turf in the league. Everybody
understands it, and it's a thing that doesn't cost a
lot of money. Yet still, the NFL watches the Jets
and have this really bad field that guys get hurt on.
(08:16):
Right then you have the macro of the Super Bowl
and games like this where hey, here's the spotlight and
guess what. Everybody's slipping and falling. And as I say this,
what happens. Jalen Hurts hits AJ Brown, which what looks
like normally would be, hey, this is probably a twenty
or twenty five yard play, but because the Packers defenders
can't keep their balance, he's able to make a cut
(08:39):
and nobody and the Packers can't make a sharp cut
like AJ Brown can, so he takes it all the
way to the house for a seventy yard touchdown, and
now it's a twenty four to nineteen lead extra point
pending for the Eagles. Like it's great to see all
these plays and I understand, but wow, man, it's tough
seeing a play go out there and someone make a
catch and make one move and boom, defenders on his
(09:00):
ass because he can't stand up, and here's a touchdown.
I mean It's like one of those games, whether it's
just a little bit too much ice on the field
and we can't stand up and make plays. There's been
plays like this the entire second half. We're not even
a minute in and we're already nearly at the over, right,
we're just I think we're one score over right now.
Twenty four to nineteen is the score?
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, it was forty nine was the over under here.
It just kind of pushes it over the top. Alexander
can't keep his feet, can't catch up, safety comes sliding
over the top, can't break right. It's like it's like
you could hear the screeching of his brakes as he
tries to slow down and not let Brown run past him.
And then it's a dead sprint using the official as
(09:41):
a pretty good shield as well on his way to
the end zone. But big plays all around, because it
was sloppy to start and a miserable slog when it
was six to nothing. You're watching the miscommunication on the
offensive line, Jason. There was actually a play where there
were twelve men on the field for both damn teams.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Yeah, why how sloppy this was?
Speaker 1 (10:01):
I you know what, here's the thing if there's twelve
men on the team for until both teams let the
place now.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
And they're both running off the field, right, Not even
one of those guys was doing anything that would be
considered Hey, they're part of the play, right. It's it's
like you and you call it off sides and you
review it in soccer's like, yeah, technically are off sides,
but they're running forty yards over there, so they don't.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
Right. So but chaos here. You know, we got the
landing zone.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
The Packers got creative at one point and kicked it
just inside the boundary of the landing zone right behind
the lines of would be blockers and tacklers, so forced
and necessitated a return.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
So that was good.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
We got to see it in action for once. Sure,
I don't know, I'm trying to find some positives.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
No, I know you are. I know you are because
I don't know how this post game speech from Roger
Goodell is gonna go. Hey, guys, look, thanks for coming.
I understand it's been a tough week. Just let me talk,
let me talk. I know coming to Brazil wasn't anybody's
first choice. I know you guys were excited because the thought, hey, Brazil,
it's fun, we can sight see do some things. It'll
(11:10):
be like a London game. And instead it was don't
leave your hotel because it's really too dangerous and we
can't guarantee your safety, so stay inside and just come
to play the game. Look, I get that that's a
bit of a buzzkill. I get that you didn't want
to bring your family. I understand this. I understand that
you're not happy that many people aren't allowed to use Twitter,
and because Brazil is banned Twitter, so you can't get
(11:32):
on social media.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Walk do you communicate with their wives? I get that
friends back home to communicate what they wanted.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
To talk about.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I get that. I know you guys love social media. Sorry,
we can't do that. I'm sorry, Brazil band. Twitter. There's
nothing we can do about that. Okay, but just door.
But hey, you're playing a game and it's gonna be awesome.
But here's the other thing. Okay, here's the other thing
I want to apologize for. I know that you all
risked your lives tonight for the product that is the
National Football League, and I want to say thank you.
(11:59):
I know that you guys were nervous about slipping and
falling and getting hurt and potentially ruining your career. Maybe
you're out for the game, maybe you're out for the season.
Who knows, but you guys, really, you guys all sucked
it up, and I want to say I'm proud of you.
Doesn't mean you're getting any extra money, doesn't mean you
get anything anything extra for playing in this game, but
I just want to say thanks for doing that solid
(12:20):
and yeah, hey, you know what, maybe maybe next time
things go a little bit better. Can't guarantee it, but boy,
we had good ratings and we made some money and
it's really good. Again. You guys aren't gonna see any
of it, but I know that this is a very
tough week, and I just want to acknowledge that for
you before you all get on planes and go back home.
I'm getting on a plane separately from you going back
home because I really have to get out of here,
because boy, I really don't want to be in here
(12:41):
any more time than we have to. So I'm gonna
leave while you two got while you guys you have
are the diversion, so if people think you're still around,
my plane can take off. I have to have to
worry about stuff and getting there and all kinds of
stuff I have to go through, So you guys will
be the distract everybody. Then you'll get out and go
and then you'll be back in fill Elfia, Green Bay
and everything is wonderful. But thanks again, see you next
(13:03):
time down the road.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Is that the replacement of this is your captain speaking
after they get to their pods and first class, like, hey,
there's an in flight announcement that needs to be done.
I'm glad you're all back on the plane. Now it's
time to get back to the States. Remember, you do
get half of the money earned off of this based
on the CBA, so you will be splitting it with
your colleagues who well, they're all gearing up for home
(13:28):
games or maybe short flights. Good luck to you, and
thanks for putting on a hell of a show. Back
to the game. Just the laughability of yesterday. I remember
the point of emphasis of where you're lining up and everything.
Whether the Ravens got screwed or not, you can fight
that all you want. They've deemphasized holding, it seems in
(13:48):
these first two games, because guys are getting away with
absolutely mauling each other both in the defensive secondary and
at the line of scrimmage, and it's just been an
absolute train wreck as far as that goes. Not to
mention the footing as you anticipate the hit.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
So let me tell you, I mean, how do you
not have the field? It's the most important thing that
you can take care of that really is on you.
Let's make sure the field is ready to go. Oh yeah,
I talk to the guys. Guys, are all good? Field
seems it looks green, you know, I see the lines
are straight, everything I mean looks like a football field.
I don't understand what you're talk I mean, can we
really just I mean, it's not that much money at all,
(14:26):
and on the grid scheme of things, it's about half
a million dollars to get a field looking great. That's
nothing for each team for the NFL to make sure, Hey,
guys aren't slipping and falling and a potentially getting injured.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
I don't understand they had it covered.
Speaker 1 (14:43):

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Thanks to a slippery field, we have hit
the over. Yeah, Packers Eagles game. Ten minutes to go
in the third quarter, doesn't matter. I've already seen two
touchdowns in the second half. Twenty six, twenty four Packers
with the lead. Jordan Love now two touchdowns throwing the
football again. Just keep running posts and crossing routes. Defenders
(17:34):
can't stand up be an eighty yard touchdown every single play.
They'll break all kinds of offensive records tonight.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I mean, unless you just let your guy break containment. Jason,
that's it game. Let's fit a second. Yeah, unless it's
Josh Jacobs. Unless it's Josh Jacobs, that's that who. But
I thought he was gonna be the big breakout guy
and he's declining it off.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
No. Hey, we'll have more from this game coming up
a bit again to the Long Way to Go ten
and a half to go in the third quarter, twenty
six to twenty four. Already Packers and the Eagles, but
joining us now, I'm the hotline. Nobody better to take
a look at a big weekend in college football. It
is Week two. You can follow him on Twitter at
Pete Feutech. He is the owner, editor, proprietor of college
(18:18):
Footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping for everything college football.
All the previews, all the analysis, all the predictions. It's
there for you at college Footballnews dot com. But before
we get there, I do need to say something to
get it out of the way. I believe in fantasy
that Pete Feutech drafted both Mark Andrews and Josh Jacobs
(18:38):
and started them this week. So I'm sorry about that, Pete.
Speaker 6 (18:42):
Absolute opposite. I drafted Travis Kelsey and idea likely, and
I shot one of them, not the right one. By
the way, I do believe this. I heard somewhere. I
could be really wrong about this, but I don't think
this gay counts because it's on Peacock, so I think, oh,
(19:03):
that's for fun. So none of these stats, all these bets,
all the veggas things. They don't actually like it just
because it's on, you know, just pretend network with you know,
you can't multi verse in or or like you know,
watch other games are flip around channel time, so it
doesn't really count. So you know, all the all the
points that you're getting hit by. If you're got you know,
a J. Brown are playing against these quarterbacks, you're good,
You're good. All right?
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Oh good, now I know, so I can go to
my commission on Monday. Go no, I actually want Pete
hu Tech told me none of those stats count. You
can just call here's the sohole number.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
The total Lias Taekwon Barkley and DeVante Smith. So don't count.
Don't actually count because, by the way, the exact you're
not you're bearing the lead here, especially for you guys,
the exact opposite think is happening about a you know,
a few drivers and three woods away from me right
here on in Evanston with your Northwestern wild Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I'm not living in dialing dying with every catch of
that game at all.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
Pete, Yeah, yeah, every catch if they're already that's well
every game. You know, whoever scores first gonna win those games.
But yeah, by the way, brilliant job you have the
most beautiful studying in college football, and you're playing it
on Friday nights that we can actually see the lake
night course, guys.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
But all the pregame footage of the rolling waves was
really cool.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
And the tornadoes that are supposed to come in and
you know, off the lake, which actually is not going
to happen. But yeah, all that kind of stuff. Yeah,
it's just lovely. But you know, but I digress. Yes,
it is college football. And you know those people who
actually you know, are sitting on peacock right now and
not watching tennis or you know, college football, are going
on on date night or something. You know, there is
north Western Duke there for you.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Hey, and I'll tell you what. Let me be the
first one to say, those are two smart teams. Okay,
those are two smart teams. That's a smart Those are
two smart teams going at it right now.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
I guess you know, right, I mean that's you know
that they do that once in a while. These guys
are you know, they're playing football, but they go to
class too. They are what everything's all about in college football.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
All right, Well, let's kick things off with a big
nude kickoff tomorrow. Texas at Michigan. I tell you, Pete
living in a Michigan house. I've spent the last couple
of days telling my wife, I think you're gonna get
boat raced on Saturday. I have a bad feeling about this.
I don't think you can score. I think Texas is
gonna run rough shot over you. She gets mad, but
then comes back in the room. So I have to
(21:21):
pick my spots. Do you see it the same way?
Speaker 6 (21:24):
Well, you can't do anything about it. It's not up
to you that if you're a thing, it's not your fault.
Michigan is bad at college football.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Now.
Speaker 6 (21:34):
All you can do is, you know, predict, and no,
I don't think that's gonna happen. I don't think Michigan
wins because I just don't buy the offense. I don't
buy the quarterback situation. Not like JJ McCarthy was needed
all that much last year, but it doesn't. There's not
a lot of confidence being inspired by that opener against
Fresno State with that quarterback situation. But that defense, the
(21:56):
defense is gonna hold. I do actually think all year
long that he is going to be right right there
and keep Michigan games. I still don't quite I truly
believe in Texas when it happens. I know, they beat
Alabama last year and all that, but then they went
all Texas and gagged away in the College football playoff.
But I still kind of think at the end of
the day, it's still Texas. They'll blow it at some point.
(22:17):
But this, if you can kind of look ahead, as
we're you know, talking about in September sixth, if you
can kind of figure out these schedules, this is kind
of a college football playoff game because if you look
at what each of these two have, there's at least
a loss coming up for both of them, probably two.
So the loser of this probably loses three games and
(22:38):
is probably out, and the winner, you know, you can
absorb the two losses and you're probably just fine. That's
the kind of cushion we're going to have now, is
the kind of the way this is going to look
going forward. But yeah, I think the winner of this
is probably going to get be like your eighth or nineties.
I don't think Texa's going to win the SEC or
anything like that. So uh, but yeah, the loser of
this probably out of the College Football playf and you know,
(22:59):
we're starting this up right now.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Let me step away from games for a second. Just
take the larger picture coming out of Week one, any
of the would be powerhouses that you have true concern
for or is it just hey, get ready, get right, preseason.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
Kind of mode exactly. You know, if the Oregon game
with the one weird one.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
I say, we actually watched it, but the only way
I can describe that is Oregon just kind of forgot
the score. You know. It's like, we're gonna, we're gonna
go up and down the field. We're gonna we're gonna
come up with a lot of yards and got a
big plays and this is a lot of fun. And
oh yeah, we're supposed to like put points on the board.
That's the whole point of this thing. And that'll be fine,
It'll be okay. I mean, they just they have a
(23:40):
little tippy tappy, dank dunk offense that sometimes you know,
can do a lot of things and you know, just
not go anywhere at the end of the day. But
that that team will be okay. But look, the big
thing I think that comes out of this is Notre Dame.
If you look at their schedule, you know, you look
across the slate. They could gack at some point looking
(24:00):
into Louisville or Georgia Tech or something. But Florida State's
looking very beatable. And that's it, you know, that's that's it.
Going into the about it.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Sure, that was very nice. They're looking there, they're looking beatable.
Look at and.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
Again, you know we talked about me I just talked
about Michigan and Texas being kind of like a college
football playoff game. Well, it turns out if you look
at the USC schedule, USC LSU is probably one of
those two because LSU schedule is not that bad. If
you're if you're if you're good enough to be LSU
and think that you should be playing in college football
playoffs things, you should be able to still go ten
(24:40):
and one if you're really that good. But you needed
that one extra buffer because they're not Bama or Georgia
this year. So uh, that was probably an elimination game
and we're wait now you kind of look at USC
difference that you know what, they might be able to
go in there and beat Michigan. They might be able
to you know, take out Wisconsin's and notre games and
things like that on their schedule.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
I gotta tell you the two teams that we thought
we don't know which way they're gonna go. You have
the contenders that we Okay, we know how good Alabama's
going to be, how good Georgia's gonna be. But a
couple of teams where where it would they fall into
the category of, hey, if things fall right, but it
also might not happen for him. I am in on
USC and Miami. After Week one, USC the defense is
(25:21):
a lot better. It looks like Moss is a really
good quarterback. My aunt cam Ward is making a dazzle
play every time he throws the football. Like these two teams,
I'm really in on for being one of those teams
that meant that that not squeaks in, but could be
the second team from a conference making a playoff, depending
how things go.
Speaker 6 (25:39):
I always I've preached this for over twenty years, and
I'll still get I don't know why anybody schedules anybody
good Week one. I mean, the stat's incredible. I think
it's like sixty one to one the SBS teams won
against the FCS teams, and they're all blows. That's why
you schedule those games. You can tune up. And so
the thing about USC Okay, they great win the defense,
(26:00):
they still gave up over four hundred yards and that
LSU team, I think that you can kind of see
if you're read between the Brian Kelly lines, that he
kind of realized, like, gosh, my team just got just
that they're not going to make those dumb mistakes in
two weeks, in three weeks, once you get the timing down,
once you get there's a lot of little false starty
things and just you know, just procedural stuff that you know,
(26:22):
a team that's had a couple of games under its boat,
they don't have those moments anymore. And that really seemed
like what LSU was in this. So it was great
win for USC, hey, they got it done. But also
at the same time, it got helps that they just
so happened to get LSU at the right time. And
when it comes to Miami, maybe Florida is just that bad.
Miami did look good. The thing that we're gonna have
to kind of wrap our heads around as well, as
(26:44):
as I've said this tea from the start, we're killing time.
I mean again, Ohio State, Georgia and everybody else and
part of this is that. Yeah, Okay, Clemson, you know,
got housed by Georgia, but Comesan did still win the
a SEC Championship. There's still really good and so they
can still take out Miami. And so yeah Miami again
(27:04):
kind of like Texas'll believe it when I see it.
Keep it going. Thank Florida is just that bad. I
think that defense is just that big of a mess.
But until Miami can do this on a regular basis,
I'm not quite there yet. But yeah, how can you
not look at that game and say, yeah, that looks
like a team that in the ACC should probably be
somewhere in the college football playoffs.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Next Jason Smith Show with Me Mike Harmon live from
the Tyrack dot com, Fox Sports Radio studios, on the
hotline with US College Footballnews dot com at Petefutech on
Twitter ch I got Pete Fucheck joint just each and
every week. Check out all his musings of the games ahead.
And a big one for me. I grabbed Nebraska and
I decided I was going to push them towards the playoffs.
(27:44):
I know, a difficult end of season, but a big
tilt this week against Colorado nearly a touchdown favorite against
the team Sanders.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
How do you not have the big new to kickoff
show there? I mean, isn't that'son standards? This is diffent thing, right,
I mean I I just I just courted that FBS
versus the FCS team. One of the few teams that
struggled was Colorado. They did not fix the glitch. Uh,
there's still have no defensive front. They still do not
(28:16):
have an offensive line. And at some point someone's gonna
have to make a business decision on chadur standers because
he might be the number one overall pick in the
draft and he is getting you know, nailed every single play.
He is so tough and he is so willing to
stand there and take shots, and he is just getting
rocked way too much for a player of his caliber.
(28:40):
I will be really curious though, and imagine before I
kind of like the whole Colorado thing. I think it's fun.
I love this offense. I love watching Shador Sanders throw
it all around. I don't think they have I'll be
interested to see if Nebraska had to tomorrow and they
just come out and just hang something on them. I mean,
is still going to throw for over three hundred yards,
but there's no running game whatsoever. And that defense. I mean,
(29:01):
I know everyone's in love with Travis Hunter. They don't
have a defense. So this is really where Nebraska really
has to show up and shine.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
All right, Pete, before you let you go. If you're
looking at the top twenty five games, you see a
big upset somewhere. Who would if I said to you, Hey,
don't be surprised if big time team X lost tomorrow,
who are you gonna get me?
Speaker 6 (29:23):
There's not a lot of that. If you look at
the schedule. It's kind of wany when you have said
South Carolina Kentucky's your big afternoon game. That's bringing in
Colorado Nebraska. It's all right, I'm kind of looking at
Michigan State Maryland. It's not really a top twenty five
ish game. I think week zero, week one games Michigan
State should have put like forty on Florida Atlantic. And
(29:45):
that again, that's why you put schedule an easy week
one game, because they just kept screwing up. And that's
the type of thing that maybe from week one to
week two you fix that glitch and all of a sudden,
Adan Childs becomes a lot sharper and just a week.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
It's not.
Speaker 6 (29:59):
He's got, you know, a game under his belt. I
kind of think I think Michigan State's going to have
a little something in this from Maryland tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
He's on Twitter at Pete feutech That is, at Pete
feu Tech. Checkout college Footballnews dot com, your one stop
shopping for everything college football. The previews, the analysis, the prognostications.
It is all there for you college Footballnews dot Com.
Pete is always buddy appreciated, my friend. Enjoy the games
this weekend, and I look forward to seeing Isaiah Likely
in your lineup next week.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
Yeah, Travis Kelsey catch three touchdowns, That's just how it
works for me.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Hey, just play two tight ends in the flex right
to be interating. Looks like you're gonna run the football.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
That's exactly what I'm gonna do. Actually, but yeah, see
Anyboddy there goes Pete few Tech.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
I had them both and I played the wrong one.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Well, I mean, look, it's not a bad strategy. I
mean you go back and watch a lot of yesterday's games.
Mark Andrews was double teamed straight Offen. That probably goes
to Likely going forward, doesn't it, Because he's got a
little bit of the I don't know, maybe a little
smaller and I use that very loosely version of Antonio
Gates running around there with his athleticism.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Exit out, bout of Fresca, exit swollen down the Jason
smithser with Mike Carmon Love from the tyrech dot Com studios.
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. As obviously all our eyes are in
one place watching the jiff over and over of Mark
Biento's's game winning walk off home run for the Mets.
Steve de Seger has that more with what's trending.
Speaker 7 (31:29):
And Atlanta did win. They're still tied for the final
Ana wildcard spot. There is a second party involved in
this just for the rest.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah, but now guess who else is coming in? The
Diamondbacks starting to come back to the pack there a
little bit uh.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Look out look.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
I do like that you described it as a party, though, Steve,
So let's go on a Friday night, man, it's.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
A Friday night party.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
And the Diamondbacks are getting shut out eight nothing at Houston.
In the bottom of the eighth, jord On Alvarez a
couple of home runs that Mets win was their eighth
in a row. Phillies won their sixth straight. Yankees and
Orioles each on the O's or a half game up
on the Yanks for first in the AL East. You
were talking college football. It is halftime on FS one,
Northwestern playing in its temporary stadium. They're using the next
(32:11):
couple of years. Ten to seven, Northwestern over Duke.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
At the break.
Speaker 7 (32:15):
BYU has just won at SMU eighteen fifteen. And Indiana
won its home game seventy seven to three against Western Illinois.
Hoosier's offense over seven hundred yards. Next weekend Indiana at
UCLA Saturday on Fox TV, Number three, Texas at number
ten Rank Michigan noon Eastern time, Saturday night on FS one,
(32:36):
number nineteen, Kansas at Illinois. Now to the NFL game
in Brazil, About seven minutes to go in the third quarter,
and it's the Green Bay Packers in the lead over
the Eagles, twenty six, twenty four guys. After the Eagles
quarterback Jalen Hurts had two early turnovers, we had eight
consecutive drives with points going back and forth and yes,
(32:59):
some slipping on the field to Jordan Love with two
touchdown passes for green Bay. In fact, for the Packers,
Jayden Reid with a thirty three yard touchdown run and
a seventy yard touchdown catch. On the Eagles side, Sakuon
Barkley with a touchdown run and a touchdown catch. Aj
Brown of Philly four receptions, one hundred eight yards and
(33:20):
a td green Bay in the lead twenty six twenty four.
The Packers were stopped on a two point try in
the first half. Josh Jacobs was stopped on that carry
and for the night. In addition, he has eight carries
ten yards rushing, but the Packers do have a slight
lead mid third quarter.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Another seventy two carries and he'll be at one hundred
one hundred yards n seventy two.
Speaker 7 (33:43):
Carries away not terribly confident about that tonight, actually, Steelers
quarterback Russell Wilson, that's like the White Sox. Another seventy
five games played and they might get to a five
hundred mark. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is questionable for Sunday
with calf tightness. He was limited in practicing today. Bengals
wide receiver T Higgins is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
(34:04):
Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase says he's a game time
decision Sunday. He wants a new contract. The Dolphins gave
defensive back Jalen Ramsey a three year extension worth about
seventy two million dollars. They've started a fifth set at
the US Open and the Men's Semis between two Americans.
It's Taylor Fritz against Francis tiafo the winner.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
Taylor Swift is in the US Open.
Speaker 7 (34:24):
Wait for Fritz against Francis Tiaffo the winner against number
one Yadick Center in Sunday's final. And among the four
WNBA games tonight, Minnesota did win at Indiana ninety nine
eighty eight Caitlin Clark and the loss twenty five points,
eight rebounds, eight assists and seven turnovers.
Speaker 1 (34:43):

six and a half to go in the third quarter.
Coming up next, Yeah, we got more NFL coming your way.
How is the biggest, most anticipated NFL debut in years
going to go on Sunday? We'll tell you next Jason
and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmony know live from the ti Iraq dot
Com studios. Four and a half to go in the
third quarter, we have blown past the over Eagles now
lead the Packers thirty one twenty six with four and
a half to go. It has been a big night
(35:56):
touchdown wise for Saquon Barkley now up to sixty yards
two touchdowns, also twenty three yards receiving in a touchdown.
Eagles have the lead over the Packers. Will have more
on this game coming up in a few minutes. But
as we get ready for Week one, right, Mike and
I gonna give you some upset special picks, and some
of the biggest games in the league coming up in
about ten minutes. The biggest debut in years is going
(36:20):
to happen on Sunday when we watch Tom Brady do
his very first game as an analyst. He's got Cowboys
and Browns, and everybody's gonna be tuned to that. As
if you're not gonna be tuned to Cowboys anyway, you're
gonna tune in because you're gonna get Tom Brady. And
I've seen so many things today where there's been analysts
who are offering him advice. And here's what I would
(36:42):
do if I was Brady and I see this, Mike,
and I go, what the hell? You really think you're
gonna tell him what to do? You really think he's
You really think Brady is not gonna come into this
and be fantastic right out of the gate. You really
think somehow Tom Brady's gonna show up and he's gonna
ruggle first year of a thirty eight winner, He's making
thirty five million dollars a year to do games for
(37:04):
Fox on TV, and Brady's not gonna be fantastic. I'll
tell you exactly how this is gonna go. He is
gonna do a little bit of everything. He'll predict plays,
he'll break them down in a smart way where oh
I did, I never would have thought about it from
that perspective. Brady's gonna do that. He's gonna be critical
of players without seeming like he's hating on them. Every
time he criticized, he kind of does it with a
(37:25):
bit of a smile on his face. And let's face it,
what can players say? It's Tom Brady criticizing you, not
somebody is the guy winning his quarterback in the history
of the game. Right, He's gonna tell funny stories. Do
you really think he's not gonna kill it? Do you
really think he's gonna someone commit He's gonna struggle with
what to say. No, Brady is not going to do
anything that he knows I can't be really successful at.
(37:48):
And he'll be the week one story on Monday. Hey,
we got games, but what about Tom Brady's debut? All season,
We're gonna talk about, Hey what did Brady say? Sunday? Right,
It's gonna be like Charles Barkley with the NBA for
most of the heyday when Hey, what did Barkley say
about Shaq? What did Barkley say about Kobe? What did
Barkley say? Here, it's what did Brady say? Look at
what Tom Brady said. We kind of saw it a
(38:10):
little bit with Roma in the beginning when he would
predict plays. But now Tony Romo obviously is someone who
just shows up and punches the clock for his job.
But Brady's going to be someone who is what did
he say? Who did he talk about? And it's been
a topic during the season. Maybe they'll go back and
forth on it, but what Brady says we will talk
about all week every week in the NFL this year.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Yeah, a lot of it comes back to Jayson. I
mean preparation. What made him the great player? Like he
wasn't the guy that was blessed with the you know,
statue esque figure. Wasn't the number one overall pick all
of those numbers that you've heard, right, No number one
pick has won their first game since David Carr. Hey,
let's go Caleb Williams. But it's the idea that you know,
(38:54):
you got a guy who is the master of preparation,
the guy that was always in the film room and
viewing things.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Eric Shanks did an interview.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
He was hanging out with Tim Conway Junior on our
station in La KFI, the big news station, and just
talking about the prep and how much time he'd spent
working on games with Kevin Burkhart and the crew right,
making sure their timing is down, trying to figure out
all right, whens too much in terms of prediction versus
laying off versus you know, telling stories and all of that,
(39:26):
and getting that syncopation down right, getting the rhythms and
and kind of cadence to it all in place to
give it the best product possible a full season worth
of games. Normally it's like, all right, you did two
or three, you're feeling good. All right, let's go. No, no, no,
this guy's gonna do the overkill on the prep. So
by time he shows up on Sunday, it's it's game on.
(39:49):
And what does he get? He gets Dallas in Cleveland.
You want to talk about storylines for days. And if
he decides to come out with razor blades, he's got
plenty of opportunities.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Oh he may. He may actually get so frustrated to
come out to start the second half at quarterback for
the Browns. Like, Okay, I've had enough watching Deshaun Watson. Okay,
I'm coming out. Listen, do you have my size uniforms? Great? Okay, great,
I'll be down there. I'll go out. Keep me micd
up because I'll still do the game for you while
I'm throwing touchdowns against this Cowboys defense.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
Yeah, it's it's a game that's got great anticipation and
you know, take it to a whole other level with
the Dax stuff and Jerry getting mad and terst like
he did right before ceedee Lamb got his money, all
that background swirling and Tom Brady rides into town. Yeah,
and a lot of people will be out there with
their poison pens and they'll be disappointed that they just
(40:38):
have to put him down and watch a football game.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Yeah, he's gonna it's gonna be what did Brady says Sunday?
And we're gonna it's it's gonna be a topic of conversation.
He will be providing content for NFL fans every single
game this year. Sign I have no doubt in mind
of all the predictions we're gonna make about that the
game's coming up, I have no more surety than I
know how good Tom Brady's gonna do on Sunday. Speaking
(41:01):
of the games on Sunday, well, have more on this
game going on right now, Packers trying to get back
into the lead. Here but straight ahead, Mike and I
will give you our picks and upset specials on some
of the biggest games in the NFL Week one, Keep
it here, Fox,
