I felt no need to watch the last episode Hard Knocks.

Aaron Rodgers saw UFOs and I really look, this is

NFL story of the day. Right, we watched Nick Bosa
come in, oh ye finally and get signed forty nine ers,
making everybody nervous. Defensive player the year in the NFL?

Is you gonna play? I gotta get paid. I want
more money, five year, one hundred and seventy million dollar
extension to return to play.

Right, don't this week, play in the preseason or show
up for workouts one hundred and seventy million. Of course,
that's a number three starter for six years in Major
league gets baw.

And also, and if you're Chandler Jones, make sure you
can get into the gym to work out as long
as you.

Go that you do have to negotiate a working key

And the Niners now feel, okay, we are back to
being the overwhelming favorite we were coming into this year

Well and here, well, well quarterback, he was fine last
year and now you're bringing the best defense defensive player
in the NFL.

is terrified.

Now here's the thing this is.

This is you think my biggest fear of the season
is the Jets sucking. No, I've seen the Jets suck before.
If they suck, okay, the Jets sucking and the Giants
being really good, boy, that would really really suck. But
then again, i've seen that before. We'll do our Super
Bowl picks later.

I've seen that.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
I've seen the Jets suck and the Giants be good.
I've seen that before. My biggest fear, My biggest fear
is that Sam Darnald leads the forty nine ers to
the super Bowl, because you could see it happening. Sure,
brock Purty either is not one hundred percent healthy or
he's not as effective as he was. They want to

sit him down for whatever reason. And Sam Darnald comes
in and it just clicks. Whatever click with the Jets, meaning, hey,
knowing where to throw the football, whatever didn't click with
the Jets somehow clicks with the forty nine ers because
he's on a much better team than he was and
in all and hey, don't worry about it. We'll just
hand the ball to Christian McCaffrey. Guys, I don't know
if I can complete.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
This doesn't matter. We'll get you.

We'll just here's you do you hand it to Christian
McCaffrey on the first play? Right, What do I do
in the next play? Give it to Christian McCaffrey. We're
going to swing pass out of the backfield. Okay, what

What about and then just repeat it. Everything's gonna be fine,
Sam okay, if you say so. That's my biggest fear
is that Sam Darnald shows up and suddenly all the
columns all year long are just like, hey, look at

the Jets. They couldn't get it right with Gino Smith.
Ten years later, Gino Smith is a Pro Bowl quarterback
in this huge, rich guy. Now who's suddenly someone in
charge of this team and he's gonna be a quarterback
now in the league to be a good player for years.

Then Sam Darnald. They couldn't get it right with Sam.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Donald but then and he couldn't get it right in
Carolina either, But here he is now finally in the system,
fighting on a team where Sam is gonna say, I
feel come after Bowl, I feel looked after. I feel
like everybody knows what's going on, and it's gonna be
outside potshots of the Jets, and every week Sam Darnold's
exactly what this team he did. Oh, we knew he
was gonna be this good all the way back to
USC He just needed to be in the right system.

And all kinds of hot takes on the radio, you see,
it's just amount of quarterback being the right system. Just guys,
you got a guy in the right system and the
system works. If you have got a guy in the
wrong system, he might not be there. As certain guys
that are great and they could play.

In any system, then there's some guys that need the
right system does so happened to guys at jets Drop.
They put him in, they put him in. They weren't
in the right system. So now they're in the right system.
And you say, what they do in Chattle, you see
what they do in San Francisco. Hit some system and
that's it. That's my biggest fear. I thought, I really
thought my biggest fear.

That is my biggest because as we talked about, and
we'll go through a lot of the preview over the
course of the night. I mean, you've got two teams
that are vying for the toilet bowl right in Arizona
and the potentially the Los Angeles Rams. Right, it does
not look good. Cooper Cup may be in bubble wrap
all year long, just like Kyler Murray. He's already out

on Sunday and he may go on I you know
what I'm saying. We're at a point where you're looking at.
And then you have the Camleb Williams story that we
have to get into with his own man a little
bit later on. But the idea is you've got a
two team race for your division ground, so playoff bound
and then rolling from there. And I would love nothing
more to watch you score. Miss Sam Darnold is slinging touchdowns.

last twenty four hours his knee injury. They avoid a
worst case scenario with his ACL being intact. He's officially
questionable for tomorrow. Are we going to see Travis Kelsey
play to.

Our new It seems kind of ambitious. You know, you've
got ten days off on the other side of this
and an interesting matchup at Jacksonville. I would think they
take the long view here. It just happened yesterday. You know.

It was a significant enough injury that he needed to
get further testing, considerable further testing, you know, and it
is a hyper extension. I know that he will probably
be begging and kicking and streaming and pleading to play.
But man, I tend to think, especially right now, you

you know, be as prudent as possible. And can they
win at home? You know, in the first game of
the year, with all that time to prepare with the
best quarterback on the planet against the team that certainly
made some strides, I'll give you that, but was downright
deficient on defense. You know, could they can the great

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes find a way to score
one more point than the Lions? I think, you know,
without Travis Kelcey, I think so.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
And then we have the fun of Chris Jones still
not being there, and now he's made really weird analogies
as to opinions and expert stuff on his on his
contract situation. But kind of interesting, right, you only have
one of the big three of your superstars there for
that opening night, and now it becomes which which guy
steps up? And how much difference does it look with

no Travis Kelcey.

Yeah, and look, I kind of felt like the Chris
Jones thing has been. I mean, it has looked unlikely
he's not playing this game for awhile, so they've been
preparing for that, and I honestly feel like they were
going to come out throwing the ball over the place,
trying to you know, feed off that crowd, do what
they do, which is execute amazing early game scripts, try

to get up by two scores early, get the Lions
out of that run run, run mentality that they would
probably like to be in, and you know, take their
chances without Chris Jones. Now, yeah, now you take away
Kelsey too, that that's a different proposition and it certainly
makes the margins a little smaller, and you know, there

isn't that individual brilliance there that we've become accustomed to.
But I think this is also kind of what they
get off on a little bit, you know, and finding
ways to still keep proving people wrong. And you know,
the Patriots used to deal with this with them all
the time, right when they were the bullies on the
block in the AFC, and them kind of finding ways
(18:40):
to motivate themselves or you know, keep saying that they're
out to get us, or you know, things don't go
our way, YadA, YadA, YadA. So again, I think it
was the kind of thing that probably brings out the
best in them, but they're going to need those like
obviously moving forward, right, it's a different story, and they
have a hell of a hard schedule. And again I'm

not trying to imply that this is a layup for them,
but I do think this is a softer landing than
some of these road games they have coming up.

All right, Jay, the other big news we talked about
it a little bit, Nick Bosa five year, one hundred
and seventy million dollar extension for the biggest disruptor in
the NFL. Does this make it I don't want to
say unbeatable, but does this put San Francisco above everybody
else in the NFC? Coming back, healthy quarterback, everything else
going on?
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Not for me, I'm not sure they're a playoff team.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Wow, Wow, you hate party that much.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
I'm just not sold on them. And you know, this
team that people always seem to want to anoint, Like
I remember I'm going five and three on the road
last year and things being struggle bust for them, and
then losing at a horrible Denver team and losing at
a Horrible Bears team, and I think it's a top
heavy roster. I have cons I mean, Trent Williams, when's
(20:01):
the last time he went back to back years without
catastrophic injury. I just feel like that's a big ask.
Chris Dido for Christian McCaffrey. Uh, I I don't know, man,
I'm you know, rock Party. Just go look at the
defense as he faced last year and what exactly they
did against him, and yeah, that that defense better be better,
(20:25):
be the best in the league. And and and I'm
not sure, man, I just I have some I have
some reservations. I like Seattle to win that division and
then we'll have to see how this whole thing plays out.
But you know, it's not like no one's going to
be sitting there throwing brock purty on their shoulders, right
and and loving them up and rubbing them, you know,
(20:48):
grabbing him by the scruff of the neck and rubbing
his head every time he completes a forward pass. You know,
I mean, the bar had gotten so low it was like,
does he have a pulse? Does he have a working
rotator cuff? Does he does he? Can he throw the
ball fifteen yards downfield? You know, like, now it's like
day we're supposed to win a super Bowl with Sky
and Kyl. Shanahan's a genius. Just ask him, and you

know they's got it all figured out.

So Jason crazy like a fox? Or does a guy
just need to shut up? Sean Payton and his Russell
Wilson Now, hey, you were loved, You're not running for

the few loose cannons in this league, especially in the

you know, reading messing around on Twitter, and I saw
people kind of making the super Bowl pick. So it's like,
I've done all this content about you know, who I
think is gonna win divisions and who I think, you

know is a good value play in the futures market,
and you know, wagering and blah blah blah blah. But
I hadn't really thought about the super Bowl itself, and
I hadn't had to do that yet. You know, nobody
said like, hey, you got to make this prediction, so
I don't have one. Well, I'm saying I hadn't thought

about it that much. I hadn't gone that far. It's
been more about who I thought was winning divisions and
getting in playoffs and meeting win totals and not exceeding
are getting to win totals.

You're you're the only team getting that break. I don't

know the coach has been there, done that. I just
they intrigued me in that guard and in the NFC.
I just think it's the Eagles and everybody else now
do I But we know how difficult it is to
repeat and to get back there, especially when you've lost.
So I don't know, maybe that would lead me to

The least sexy super Bowl in the history of the

did get better last year. I think it'd be even

San Francisco, sure as hell, isn't the Rams or the
or the Cardinals. So by default their division is do

could get it real early in the offseason. Plus six

think they're going to beat San Francisco. I think they're

the best team in this division on paper, and I
am buying their quarterback. I mean, when t J. Watt
dresses for an NFL football game the last three years,
that team's twenty nine, twenty nine, ten and one. And
that's with the shell and carcass of Ben Roethlisberger. Right,
that's the provisions smeared in there. You know, I think
(27:35):
we got a little bit of Mason Rudolph. We missed,
we missed what was his name, Duck Hodges or yeah,
we missed him. He doesn't qualify. But think about that.
That's and for how many of those games, was he
really himself? And and you know high Smith is there.
This her big kid I think is going to be legit.
They've rebuilt their offensive line. You look at what they

did the first half last year and then what they
did after their bye, not Jay Harris yards before contact,
it doubles. I mean, they were finally starting to open
up some holes and I think they're going to be
even better on the left side as the season goes along.
I like their ability to beat it now with eleven personnel.
With twelve personnel, you want to get funky. With twenty

or twenty one personnel, they can get both those backs
on the field at the same time. And they do
still employ a fullback as well. So I'm I'm really
intrigued by the Pittsburgh steel As we know what Mike Tomlin,
you know what he means to a team, and the
fact that he's been at this what sixteen years, never
had a losing season. I think they're I think they're

going to surprise some people.

Lions in five points. The Lions offense is loaded. Their
offensive line is terrific. No Chris Jones, big big problem.
The Chiefs are good, but you're talking about missing your
biggest player on defense, and outside of Mahomes, likely your
most important piece on offense in Travis Kelsey. I really
can't see him playing tomorrow night. This is an injury

that happens on a Tuesday. Two days later. He's going
to play. When you have all kinds of stuff. We
talked about it last night. Is he really gonna cut
the defending champs? You're thinking about January and February. He's
really gonna suddenly jump in and play on I get
you want to play. It's opening night, It's a big,
nationally televised game, everybody is watching. I understand that, But
(32:10):
when it comes down to it, I can't see the
Chiefs that yes go out there and play. So you're
talking about being without two absolute studs. It's gonna be
a struggle early for both teams because it always is,
because the beginning first games of the season in the
NFL are always tough because offenses don't play. It's a
slog fest. Then you're gonna see the Lions offense really
start to get it humming and get it going. This
(32:31):
is a lot of the same parts. You talk about
a breakaway back in Jamior Gibbs ready to make his debut,
and all kinds of big predictions for what he's gonna
do this year. It's gonna be much tougher for the Chiefs. Again,
give me the Lions. I don't need the points, but
I will still take them four.

Right, Yeah, I'm not gonna need him. I'm not gonna
need him, but I'll take them. But the over under
has dropped. It was all the way up to fifty five,

Lions under Dan Campbell twenty three and eleven against the
number thus far. You want to talk about getting after it.

You look at Jared Goff, He's thirty three or thirty
one to thirty three and two against the spread in
outdoor games in his career. How about that for specificity,
let's go a little bit deeper though, Ryan's Week one
overs twelve and ohs. Since twenty eleven, Patrick Mahomes and
his Week one openers, the over is touched five straight time.

So we're heading over that fifty three mark. I'm going MBS,
I'm going sky Moore, and I'm looking for Jerck McKinnon
to go whoop all the way around little screen passes
running for daylight making plays. Look, Chris Jones, they weren't
anticipating he was gonna play, so they're gonna coach him up.
They're gonna be able to absorb some of that loss, obviously,

I've seen that before. My biggest fear, My biggest fear
is that Sam Darnald leads the forty nine ers to
the super Bowl, because you could see it happening. Sure,

he's not as effective as he was. They want to

sit him down for whatever reason. And Sam Darnald comes
in and it just clicks. Whatever click with the Jets, meaning, hey,
knowing where to throw the football, whatever didn't click with
the Jets somehow clicks with the forty nine ers because
he's on a much better team than he was and
in all and hey, don't worry about it. We'll just
hand the ball to Christian McCaffrey. Guys, I don't know
if I can complete.

McCaffrey on the first play? Right, What do I do

Sam okay, if you say so. That's my biggest fear
is that Sam Darnald shows up and suddenly all the
columns all year long are just like, hey, look at

the Jets. They couldn't get it right with Gino Smith.
Ten years later, Gino Smith is a Pro Bowl quarterback
in this huge, rich guy. Now who's suddenly someone in
charge of this team and he's gonna be a quarterback
now in the league to be a good player for years.

Then Sam Darnald. They couldn't get it right with Sam.

Donald but then and he couldn't get it right in
Carolina either, But here he is now finally in the system,
fighting on a team where Sam is gonna say, I
feel come after Bowl, I feel looked after. I feel
like everybody knows what's going on, and it's gonna be
outside potshots of the Jets, and every week Sam Darnold's
exactly what this team he did. Oh, we knew he
was gonna be this good all the way back to
USC He just needed to be in the right system.

And all kinds of hot takes on the radio, you see,
it's just amount of quarterback being the right system. Just guys,
you got a guy in the right system and the
system works. If you have got a guy in the
wrong system, he might not be there. As certain guys
that are great and they could play.

They put him in, they put him in. They weren't
in the right system. So now they're in the right system.
And you say, what they do in Chattle, you see

all year long, just like Kyler Murray. He's already out

what I'm saying. We're at a point where you're looking at.
And then you have the Camleb Williams story that we
have to get into with his own man a little
bit later on. But the idea is you've got a
two team race for your division ground, so playoff bound
and then rolling from there. And I would love nothing

Our new It seems kind of ambitious. You know, you've
got ten days off on the other side of this
and an interesting matchup at Jacksonville. I would think they
take the long view here. It just happened yesterday. You know.

It was a significant enough injury that he needed to
get further testing, considerable further testing, you know, and it
is a hyper extension. I know that he will probably
be begging and kicking and streaming and pleading to play.
But man, I tend to think, especially right now, you

you know, be as prudent as possible. And can they
win at home? You know, in the first game of
the year, with all that time to prepare with the
best quarterback on the planet against the team that certainly
made some strides, I'll give you that, but was downright
deficient on defense. You know, could they can the great

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes find a way to score
one more point than the Lions? I think, you know,
without Travis Kelcey, I think so.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
And then we have the fun of Chris Jones still
not being there, and now he's made really weird analogies
as to opinions and expert stuff on his on his
contract situation. But kind of interesting, right, you only have
one of the big three of your superstars there for
that opening night, and now it becomes which which guy
steps up? And how much difference does it look with

no Travis Kelcey.

Yeah, and look, I kind of felt like the Chris
Jones thing has been. I mean, it has looked unlikely
he's not playing this game for awhile, so they've been
preparing for that, and I honestly feel like they were
going to come out throwing the ball over the place,
trying to you know, feed off that crowd, do what
they do, which is execute amazing early game scripts, try
(17:58):
to get up by two scores early, get the Lions
out of that run run, run mentality that they would
probably like to be in, and you know, take their
chances without Chris Jones. Now, yeah, now you take away
Kelsey too, that that's a different proposition and it certainly
makes the margins a little smaller, and you know, there
(18:19):
isn't that individual brilliance there that we've become accustomed to.
But I think this is also kind of what they
get off on a little bit, you know, and finding
ways to still keep proving people wrong. And you know,
the Patriots used to deal with this with them all
the time, right when they were the bullies on the
block in the AFC, and them kind of finding ways
(18:40):
to motivate themselves or you know, keep saying that they're
out to get us, or you know, things don't go
our way, YadA, YadA, YadA. So again, I think it
was the kind of thing that probably brings out the
best in them, but they're going to need those like
obviously moving forward, right, it's a different story, and they
have a hell of a hard schedule. And again I'm
(19:01):
not trying to imply that this is a layup for them,
but I do think this is a softer landing than
some of these road games they have coming up.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
All right, Jay, the other big news we talked about
it a little bit, Nick Bosa five year, one hundred
and seventy million dollar extension for the biggest disruptor in
the NFL. Does this make it I don't want to
say unbeatable, but does this put San Francisco above everybody
else in the NFC? Coming back, healthy quarterback, everything else
going on?
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Not for me, I'm not sure they're a playoff team.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Wow, Wow, you hate party that much.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
I'm just not sold on them. And you know, this
team that people always seem to want to anoint, Like
I remember I'm going five and three on the road
last year and things being struggle bust for them, and
then losing at a horrible Denver team and losing at
a Horrible Bears team, and I think it's a top
heavy roster. I have cons I mean, Trent Williams, when's
(20:01):
the last time he went back to back years without
catastrophic injury. I just feel like that's a big ask.
Chris Dido for Christian McCaffrey. Uh, I I don't know, man,
I'm you know, rock Party. Just go look at the
defense as he faced last year and what exactly they
did against him, and yeah, that that defense better be better,
(20:25):
be the best in the league. And and and I'm
not sure, man, I just I have some I have
some reservations. I like Seattle to win that division and
then we'll have to see how this whole thing plays out.
But you know, it's not like no one's going to
be sitting there throwing brock purty on their shoulders, right
and and loving them up and rubbing them, you know,
(20:48):
grabbing him by the scruff of the neck and rubbing
his head every time he completes a forward pass. You know,
I mean, the bar had gotten so low it was like,
does he have a pulse? Does he have a working
rotator cuff? Does he does he? Can he throw the
ball fifteen yards downfield? You know, like, now it's like
day we're supposed to win a super Bowl with Sky
and Kyl. Shanahan's a genius. Just ask him, and you

know they's got it all figured out.

Well, we'll see.

So Jason crazy like a fox? Or does a guy
just need to shut up? Sean Payton and his Russell
Wilson Now, hey, you were loved, You're not running for
office and all this other stuff. It's like, I think
he's just really setting him up as the fall guy.
If this go himself, that he goes beyond him.

Look, I think you know, Sean Payton is one of
the few loose cannons in this league, especially in the
coaching position, and I think that year in their broadcast
booth may have loosened them up even more. But he's
crazy like a fox, and I think he's trying to
motivate Russell in his own way, and you know what,

it just might work. I don't really know what to
make of of them. You know, this is a weird
game with the Raiders, Like, for whatever reason, the Raiders
have kind of had their number, you know, and the
Broncos have often looked better outside that division than in
it in recent years. And I think it's a good defense.

But you know, I don't know. I'm just very much
in wait and see mode with them all the way around.
But Sean Payton knows one thing. The odds are incredibly
in his favor to outlast Russell Wilson one way or
the other. And especially if it's not going well there,

if it doesn't go well there, then yeah, there'll be
on another quarterback next year.

I've done all this content about you know, who I
think is gonna win divisions and who I think, you

know is a good value play in the futures market,
and you know, wagering and blah blah blah blah. But
I hadn't really thought about the super Bowl itself, and
I hadn't had to do that yet. You know, nobody
said like, hey, you got to make this prediction, so
I don't have one. Well, I'm saying I hadn't thought

about it that much. I hadn't gone that far. It's
been more about who I thought was winning divisions and
getting in playoffs and meeting win totals and not exceeding
are getting to win totals.

You're you're the only team getting that break. I don't

know the coach has been there, done that. I just
they intrigued me in that guard and in the NFC.
I just think it's the Eagles and everybody else now
do I But we know how difficult it is to
repeat and to get back there, especially when you've lost.
So I don't know, maybe that would lead me to

just throw it dart somewhere else, Like how about Jacksonville Seattle?
The least sexy super Bowl in the history of the
Super Bowl.

did get better last year. I think it'd be even

San Francisco, sure as hell, isn't the Rams or the
or the Cardinals. So by default their division is do

I mean, what's coming what's coming out of the AFC North?

Pittsburgh to win? There you go.

I've said it in many way shapes and forms. I've
written about it to Washington Post. It's it's established. You
could get it real early in the offseason. Plus six
point fifty. It's still around plus five hundred. Yeah. I
think they're going to beat San Francisco. I think they're

the best team in this division on paper, and I
am buying their quarterback. I mean, when t J. Watt
dresses for an NFL football game the last three years,
that team's twenty nine, twenty nine, ten and one. And
that's with the shell and carcass of Ben Roethlisberger. Right,
that's the provisions smeared in there. You know, I think
(27:35):
we got a little bit of Mason Rudolph. We missed,
we missed what was his name, Duck Hodges or yeah,
we missed him. He doesn't qualify. But think about that.
That's and for how many of those games, was he
really himself? And and you know high Smith is there.
This her big kid I think is going to be legit.
They've rebuilt their offensive line. You look at what they
(27:56):
did the first half last year and then what they
did after their bye, not Jay Harris yards before contact,
it doubles. I mean, they were finally starting to open
up some holes and I think they're going to be
even better on the left side as the season goes along.
I like their ability to beat it now with eleven personnel.
With twelve personnel, you want to get funky. With twenty

or twenty one personnel, they can get both those backs
on the field at the same time. And they do
still employ a fullback as well. So I'm I'm really
intrigued by the Pittsburgh steel As we know what Mike Tomlin,
you know what he means to a team, and the
fact that he's been at this what sixteen years, never
had a losing season. I think they're I think they're

going to surprise some people.

biggest player on defense, and outside of Mahomes, likely your
most important piece on offense in Travis Kelsey. I really
can't see him playing tomorrow night. This is an injury

that happens on a Tuesday. Two days later. He's going
to play. When you have all kinds of stuff. We
talked about it last night. Is he really gonna cut
the defending champs? You're thinking about January and February. He's
really gonna suddenly jump in and play on I get
you want to play. It's opening night, It's a big,
nationally televised game, everybody is watching. I understand that, But

when it comes down to it, I can't see the
Chiefs that yes go out there and play. So you're
talking about being without two absolute studs. It's gonna be
a struggle early for both teams because it always is,
because the beginning first games of the season in the
NFL are always tough because offenses don't play. It's a
slog fest. Then you're gonna see the Lions offense really
start to get it humming and get it going. This

is a lot of the same parts. You talk about
a breakaway back in Jamior Gibbs ready to make his debut,
and all kinds of big predictions for what he's gonna
do this year. It's gonna be much tougher for the Chiefs. Again,
give me the Lions. I don't need the points, but
I will still take them four.

number thus far. You want to talk about getting after it.

outdoor games in his career. How about that for specificity,
let's go a little bit deeper though, Ryan's Week one
