You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings and welcome inside to a glass half full Monday
here on Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Hardin live from the Tirack dot
Com Studios. Tirac dot com. We'll help you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiract dot com is the
(00:52):
way tire buying should be. I just have to keep
remembering Mets one braves lost. Yeah, Mets one braves lost,
because this is abysmal. The forty nine ers are man
handling the Jets. Yeah, in every form of the game.
Sure receivers are wide open. And I know Jordan Mason's
(01:12):
having a nice night running the footballs. I having a great,
really good night. I would be gaining and gashing the
Jets for yards with the lanes, the rushing lanes that
they have open well because.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
They're going straight up the guts Like this isn't even
a let's get to the edge, let's push the pocket.
All of that out between Mason and Deebo Samuel, it's
a lot of we're going straight up the middle and
we're gonna run you over.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
This is emasculating what's happening right now watching this game.
The Niners just go in for another touchdown, another touchdown
run for Jordan Mason, take up half the quarter, make
it twenty three seven. Look, this game is over. Okay
for the best thing I can say being a Jets fan,
I can't say because the microphones are on and yeah,
but you.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Can mouth the words, I mean, your idiots social media,
I can't know.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
I can't do that.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
If smokes want to see how good your tries, because
you've been doing all sorts of push ups trying to
get your aggression out.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
My triceps look way better than the Jets. Look, this
is a game where the Niners are playing at home.
They should win this game. But the Jets come in.
All the talking they've done in the offseason. How great
the defense is. We're gonna be at one of the
legendary defense. I can't get over how great we're going
to get all of this stuff. And what have we
seen so far? The forty nine ers without their best
(02:27):
player again, let me say it, without their best player,
without Christian McCaffrey, who is inactive for this game, they
have rolled up two hundred and eighty five yards of
offense to eighty three for the Jets. They've thrown for
one hundred and sixty three and their rushing game has
been phenomenal. They've run for one hundred and twenty yards.
Everything is open, Like I want to look at this
(02:48):
and go, well, if the Jets just did this, if
they did it. Yeah, No, there's nothing they can do
because they are just getting blown off the line of
scrimmage and parties party's not getting rushed and the receivers
have separate on every single play like this. This is awful.
This is about as bad as start as you could
expect for the Jets. The only thing can say, as well,
it's on the road against San Francisco. This is not
(03:10):
at home against the Jaguars, and this is happening it's
on the road against team that went to the Super
Bowl last year. They're still really good. You can see
the offensive line, Trent Williams, none of them needed any
sort of preseason Everything is fine. They are just that's
the thing that shocks me is they are just blowing
running lanes wide open against the Jets. And look, Jordan
Mason stepping in for Christian McCaffrey has been good. But really,
there's lots of guys anybody on this debt. Roger Craig,
(03:33):
who was I think in his sixties, could have a
big night, high knees running through the Jets offense.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Be in the Hall of Fame, by the way. But yeah,
Mason seventeen carries, eighty eight yards and a score the
long of fifteen on the night. Conversely, Breisee Hall did
find the end zone. He also fumbled. He's got twenty
five yards on ten carries with that score and for
San Francisco. And that's where you go glass half full
in the moment. Right in overreaction week, one kind of
(04:01):
talk is you did get the primetime matchup against a
Super Bowl favorite, right, They were the co favorites coming
into the season alongside Kansas city, so you take it
with a grain assault. Now, the fact that McCaffrey was
only worth a point and a half, I think it
just showed right, Trent Williams needs to be there. Everybody
(04:21):
else is a luxury. Anybody Frank Gore is. I think
he's forty four. He would have one hundred yards today.
But go back to you know, the end of the half. Right,
they end up kicking the field goal, but Perdy narrowly
misses Brandon Ayuk, who was wide open, had to dive
for the ball, couldn't corral it. It falls incomplete, but
running with great separation time and again, Perdy was averaging
(04:44):
ten point four yards a throw when Sauce Gardner was
off the field for a bit, right, he was six
of six officially, and they're picking on everybody that isn't
named Sauce is really what it comes down to. But
the physicality and just the dominant by the offensive and
defensive lines of San Francisco. I didn't I expected your
(05:07):
offensive line to get worked a bit, No matter how
much you can tell me it's rebuilt, it's an older
offensive line. I did not quite expect the man handling
that we're seeing from Trent Williams and his band to Merriman,
who were supposed to be just okay beyond Trent Williams. Right.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Look it's look, it's it's a case of you see
one team that was this close to Super Bowl last
year and another team that is doing a lot of
talking about being a super Bowl team, and they come
in to strap it up and it's been one sided.
The Jets have had one drive, who was a good
looking drive. We'll get to Aaron Rodgers part of the
second because he's still playing quarterback. Knock with second half
(05:43):
is going, Aaron Rodgers plays you, but but you.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Finally got the ball after that long protracted drive. But
you see, but you see the difference in the two teams.
And that's what I keep going back to, is well
Mets one, Braves lost, and I keep going back to
this is the first game of the year and it's
in San Francisco and Aaron Rodgers just gets picked off.
As I see it, a ball that looks like it
should have been completed, bounces out of the receiver's hands
(06:06):
up in the air. It is picked off by the Niners.
They have the ball just inside midfield. They will now
be going for get another touchdown. Twenty three to seven
is their lead six and a half to go on
the third quarter. Uh look you said, Look, I can't
say anything.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
I can't. It's there. The Jets are getting dominated top
to bottom, and hopefully this is a wake up call
for them. But all the talking we did, boy, we
just came in and we were awful and we were
absolutely terrible, and we laid we laid a huge leg late,
laid a huge egg gear. So maybe we figure things
out for the next game. But this is this is awful.
I mean, this is just for all the things away
(06:40):
can start. What are the Jets gonna say after Well,
there are guys all healthy. They're healthy, okay, alright, good,
they're healthy. Okay, great, great, great. So that gets us
to Aaron Rodgers, Jason Smith, Mike Carmon, lifrom thetirec dot
Com Studios. Rogers so far has looked okay, he has
looked like the old Aaron Rodgers. He had a couple
of drosery through the ball really well, but clear you
(07:00):
are seeing and this is part of the whole league
as a whole is you're gonna get rough football in
the first week or two and the NFL has decided
we're okay with that, and teams have decided we're okay
with that. We don't want to play our stars in
the preseason, and we're okay with rough football the first
week plus, because that's what we've seen the last couple
of years.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Now.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
The teams have gone away from hey, we're playing our
guys in the preseason. What you've seen so far, teams
that look good, teams have played most of their starters
in the preseason. You get lucky you don't have injuries,
but it's like, we'll sacrifice the first week of football
being good for getting guys out there and staying healthy.
So when you think about it like that, hey, yeah
Rogers looks fine. Does he look a little rusty? Yeah?
Do the Jets offense look like they can do a
(07:40):
little bit more when they get more time together. Yeah.
But clearly, here's the Niners who stayed together from the
even though guys have been in and out of the
lost I'm holding out, I'm holding in, I'm staying out,
I'm coming in. Yeah, this is still a team that
by and large all went to the Super Bowl last year.
They've all been together the last couple of years and
you're seeing that big advantage over the first week or
two of the season for those teams that have been
(08:01):
more together and have played a little bit more than
teams that are trying to put a new offensive line
out there and a guy trying to get good rapport
with his receivers when he barely plays in the preseason.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I mean, we talked about it a lot. Continuity matters
in this league. Why do we hold you know, the
five to six franchises apart from the rest of the league,
San Francisco being one of them, is that you have
continuity in your front office, in your coaching staff, and
with your star players so you can hit the ground running.
Because what was the expectation and what was the noise
(08:31):
that was out there? San Francisco, there's too much going
on off the field. They're gonna come out and they're
gonna be flat. Well, they're kicking your ass right now.
I mean, from Miller to post and taking no prisoners
in this and for the Jets, a lot of talk,
a lot of high expectations. Your number two receivers still
Allen Lazard, Okay, for everything that might have changed around
(08:52):
there and all the positivity and yes, Aaron Rodgers is there,
so in theory, Lazard will be a factor at some point.
Right now, we're midway through the third quarter. You got
four catches for Garrett Wilson, four catches for Bresee Hall,
and three other targets, two for Lazard, one for Tyler Conklin,
and they both have goose eggs. And so that's where
(09:12):
you're at offensively at this point as we're watching. But
this is also where the league and the schedulers and
everybody we got to come to some consensus here too,
because you go and you make a bunch of marquee
matchups like this owing to the fact that you've got
a lot of turnover. Half the coordinators in the National
Football League turned over this year, right I think it
(09:36):
was thirty one of the coordinators are new, what eight
new head coaches. All of these things to say, if
we're not going to take the run up into the
regular season properly, then these shouldn't be glorified exhibition games
where we go and it really didn't matter. It was
week one, which is what a lot of the analysis
(09:57):
is coming out. Well, you got to take it with
a great assault because of this that the other's like, no,
it still counts as one of seventeen. You can't have
it both ways, like the amount of massaging i've heard
for coaches and players who came out were terrible because
of your friends or friend of a friend or whatever else. Like, no,
just admit that they were bad. Don't try to couch
(10:19):
it as well. You know eventually you're gonna see this click.
You know what the show's today, your analysis today. If
they played badly, they've played badly, and that's how you
have to live with it, just like you and your jet.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
I have no problemitting this is bad. No, I have
no problem this is bad, right?
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I mean, but my team got a w were there
are a lot of negatives in that game. Hell yeah,
I could do four hours on what the Bears didn't
do right. But you know what, you go want and
o today, just like we preach that in your life,
you go one and oh today, opportunity.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I feel like I hate watching at this point, you
are I'm hate watching.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Oh look at Jordan. For those watching a video on
X right, I wore my. You're doing everything you can
to pump up that you got some dry sets.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
The Gummy show was out.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
I wore.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
I wore my good sleeveless Syracuse sweach a T shirt
today because to show I got good color on my
arms and triceps. You went to twin with that's what
I have. It's good, but no I feel oh good? Yo,
run for first? Out, run more, Jordan Mason, keep running
for first like that's how I'm watching now. I'm at
that point of the game.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Yeah, you don't want your guys getting run over.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
And that's one braves lost. And that's one braves lost,
Mets one braveslet.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I mean, the the old mantra was that the Mets
had to get you to the Jets. Yeah, now the
Mets might have to survive the Jets. Hey, can you
get me past? Give me past the Jets, give me pass?
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Can you give me another six wins? And listen, can
you get me all the way to the Knicks? Can
you get to the Knicks?
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I mean you only got what four or five weeks
before that's Gonnagy the season starts. I mean it's possible.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, but look, but to give the forty nine ers
credit here, you know, it's it's it's they have had
an off season of and they've had a tumultuous offseason
with not knowing where their players are going to be,
with not knowing are you gonna have Brandon Ayuk or
is a guy gonna be dealt somewhere else? He's wanted
out since the beginning of since right after the draft,
and you navigated that and you are happy trading him
(12:11):
and you are happy give him a contract. Guess what
you gave him a contract? Trent Williams holding out the
entire offseason, wanted money, came in a week before. Everything
is fine, right, you have weathered that. Christian McCaffrey is
out before right before the game. Guess what here comes,
Jordan Mason. You have seen an organization. Okay, and again
this will get to the Jets because I cannot do it.
(12:32):
But you have seen an organization that you get why
they get as far as they do. You get why
they are a super Bowl team, how they're able to
accumulate these players and stay on course no matter what
sort of no matter what is thrown in their way.
They stood Ayuk, they stood Trent Williams, they stood Christian
McCaffrey tonight, and they look just like a super Bowl team.
(12:52):
And now you have a team like the Jets who
have done so much talking and now you look at
them and go, wow, are they really this good? Are
they still really do they have enough a wide receiver?
As Aaron Rodgers told this guy, this defense was supposed
to be a top three team and they are getting
just holes blown open against them. Again, you the difference
between a team that knows exactly how we have to
hit the season and how we have to get past
(13:13):
anything that comes our way in the offseason and a
team like the Jets, who tries to win the offseason
every year and when the games come, that's what gives
the Jets difficulty. If there were no games, the Jets
would be great, but would be a dynasty.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Man.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
It would be like, boy, we won like seven out
of the last eight years. We don't even need the games.
If there were no games, Jets would a dynasty. But
unfortunately they play the games, and the games give the
Jets the toughest part.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Yeah, it really enough came down to this. Coming into
the season. It was Aaron Rodgers coming on to the
field essentially in a Riddler outfit. What are you getting
from him? And can he elevate people like he once did?
Because he's gonna need to right. No disrespect to Garrett
Wilson and Breese Hall, they're fantastic players. What else is around?
(13:55):
Conklin's a guy that we've read a lot about, a
lot of expectations for him to be a breakthrough. Well
as of now he's registered nothing as we get deep
into the third quarter. But for all of these teams, right,
as much as we want to throw the book at
him and have our referendum today, it's week one. You
got a lot of matchups that are not exactly advantageous
again owing to the fact that you don't got a
(14:17):
lot of snaps, you got a lot of snaps together
on the field together. For the forty nine ers, they're
blessed by the fact that Trent Williams is thirty six
years old and he knows exactly what he needs to
do to be ready for week one, which meant he
was just gonna sit on his ass and mistraining camp
as long as he could. And the other is when
it comes to these contract negotiations and fights, right there's
(14:40):
the outward noise and speculation. Take Dallas for instance, where
it's all swirling, Oh, it's bad blood and they hate
each other and then it's like, hey, you ready to
go to work. Okay, let's go. And that's exactly what
the forty nine ers do, right. Ayuk was rumored to
be on five different teams, and there he is with
the forty nine ers. Eventually he gets paid. Debo structures
(15:00):
his deal. They move money around and the next man
comes up and for Trent Williams like, hey, I just
need to block again, right, you're not asking me to
do anything else for the extra money, are you?
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Nah?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Just go push people around. He seems to have remembered
how to do that tonight.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
As we say this more going right for the forty
nine ers. Moody from fifty three yards yeah, hits the
left upright and bounces through twenty six to seven. The
Niners now lead the Jets. My fifty six to seven
prediction could come true, except it would just be for
the Niners. I said, Jets fifty six, forty nine or seven.
I still could get the score right, you could, but
(15:34):
it would be obviously you know what.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Okay, Look, you gotta take your shots right, as we
always say, if you're gonna fail, fail spectacularly, especially on
a Monday night. Just think about it, though A lot
of people didn't get to watch this game. Yeah, because
of the ongoing carriage.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
I know.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
So maybe it doesn't happen. So maybe you can argue
for this that section of the population. It didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
On us Jets are oh to O zero something gain.
No no one won, no one lost, no one gets
to see it. It didn't happen. That works. We got
Jason locking for Coming up next, all the big news
in the NFL the weekend that was for Tyreek Hill
and the Dolphins. What quarterbacks might be looking over their
shoulder a little bit sooner than you think. All that
more coming up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox

Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live
from the Tireck dot Com studios.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Well, don't cook the Jets just yet. Maybe I was.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
I was.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
You had to, You had to spur them on with
your anger.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Jets down twenty six to seven. Niners jump off sides,
Aaron Rodgers doing an Aaron Rodgers thing, gets the ball
snap free play, goes deep to Alan Lazard for a touchdown.
The Niners looked like they gave up on the play
when they jumped off side, and now the Jets have
cut the deficit to twenty six thirteen. They go for
two breze. Hall gets stopped at the one. So it
(17:40):
is a twenty six thirteen lead for the Niners right
now over the Jets. They are getting the football back
with about two minutes to go in the third quarter.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Gyre Brown just stopped and watched Aun past.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Time that looks pretty look at him go oh wait really,
Oh sorry, I didn't I keep going right, got it?
Speaker 3 (17:56):
I got it. But I think they all got caught
up in the idea that it was going to be
lone dead because unobated to the quarterback, because he got
deep into the backfield, like this wasn't one step. But
that's when everybody moved. They played it on. That's what
Aaron Rodgers does. No, I know, I got a free
play touchdown. So twenty six thirteen will have more on this.
Joining us now in the hotline.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
To break down all the big news in the NFL
longtime front of the show, NFL Insider Odyssey Washington Post
one on five seven the Fan in Baltimore. He's on
Twitter at Jason lock and fora he is now working
at twenty thousand words on the Heisman campaign for Kyle mccorr.
Oh boy, it is Jason lock and for what's happening, Bud.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
What's going on? Gentlemen?
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
I'm I'm watching the Jets and I'm I'm, I'm and
I'm just losing my mind. That's kind of the first
twenty minutes of the show tonight.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Yeah, I don't know, unlike I guess most of America.
I watched the twenty twenty one Green Bay Packers pretty closely,
and I watched the twenty twenty two Green.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Bay Packers pretty closely. And one of those things is
not like the other. Godspeed, You guys know where I
stand on it. You don't want to put the ball
downfield anymore. He's got nothing invested in this team. If
it works out, great as the savior. If it doesn't,
hey's Whatty Johnson and the Jets, you know, even I
couldn't fix them, like I just you know, I have
(19:18):
fun with it, man, enjoy it. You know.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Look I said this a few minutes ago, Like what
we've seen in this game is one team that's able
to handle what the offseason throws at them, whether it's
Ayuk Trent Williams McCaffrey ruled out right before the game,
and another team that does a lot of talking and
tries to win the offseason and clearly is not quite
as ready for Week one as a team they're playing against.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Well, I look, I just don't understand that the way
people annoint the Jets like it makes no sense to me.
People talk about the defense like it's otherworldly. You can
run on that. I mean this game, I knew it
didn't matter if mccafrey played, didn't matter who the running
back was, because points missed all that time, and because
Ayuk is still working his way back through some stuff,
(20:05):
and because they didn't really get their group together in
the preseason, they were gonna run the hell out of
the football no matter what. If I knew it. I
gotta think Robert Sala, who I think used to work there,
he probably knew it. And they can't do anything about it.
And you've been able to run them when you put
your mind to it for years. So I don't know, man.
(20:26):
And again I think the quarterbacks washed. Like so I whatever,
we'll see, Like, I don't buy it. I go back
and watch him in twenty two. He wants to check
the ball down, he wants to get rid of the football.
He wants to throw it within five yards of the
line of scrimmage. I mean, I think there were five
or six games where he threw ten and more passes
(20:46):
to running backs. Like, I mean, that's fine, whatever, Like
it ain't gonna fly. It ain't gonna fly in a
really good AFC. Like I don't know. I don't buy
the offensive line. I mean there's a lot I don't buy.
And they've played a good team tonight and whatever. But
like I'll bet you right now, like that that game
in Tennessee goes under and will Evis is so bad
(21:09):
he might just hand it to the Jets. But that's
a lot fight. I bet the Jets are struggling in
the second half and like they'll probably win, but I
bet it's real damn ugly, And I bet most of
their games look like that because that's what they've been
for a long time, and I don't think they've significantly upgraded.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
I really thought you were going to try to retort
with something there, Smith, but you had nothing to say
speaking of guys not being able to really push the
ball downfield. I mean, the Steelers got to win over
everybody's Darling Falcons with Justin Field's not attempting a single
pass over the middle of the field.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
That might be the greatest shot Chard ever.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Well, he was pretty good on the sidelines, brother, How
call you that? I don't think Pickings cares about where
he catch out right, He actually caught the football with
some regularity, which hasn't happened a whole lot there, Mike
Tomlin on the road as an un dog. Just take
him straight up, Just take them straight up and thank
me later. Like that's what they do. They take care
(22:07):
of overrated teams on the road, and they do it
with defense, and they do it by running the ball
thirty five or more times. You know, it turned out
in this one forty one they weren't a super duper
like sexy doing it like jaraln Warren clearly ain't one
hundred percent and Fields is still getting his feet under
him in that offense. So it's not like they were
destroying people with the mesh point or anything like that.
(22:28):
But Field only took two sacks. His decision making was
pretty sound. He didn't turn the ball over. I know
they didn't have offensive touchdowns. I get that, but that
teem's accustomed to winning that way, Like that's very much
in their DNA. You know, in that building, the people
aren't sitting there like what was us? We didn't score again.
(22:52):
I mean, they've got a really good kicker, and you know,
they won their first game of the year and they're
going to Denver and I think bo Nix will pete
on his leg I think they'll win that game. It
might be ugly, maybe it's nine to six, but I
think they'll win. And most importantly, I think they'll cover.
Especially if you got him into two and a half
and away we go. This is like yeah, And I
(23:13):
think if they stick with fields, and I think they will,
there is the potential for him to improve in that system.
And I do think they want to add a wide
receiver before the deadline, and might not be somebody who's
impactful of Brandon and you could have been, but it
might be somebody to round that thing out a little bit.
So and people want to kill them every year, like
(23:34):
they want to write them off in August every year.
And I get it, man, it's a tough watch, but
it works for them. It's effective for them.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Jason locking forward with us at Jason Smith Show with
Mike Rman, live from the TIREC dot Com Studios. All Right,
we've seen the last twenty four hours. The Falcons say
Kirk cousins struggles are not due to his injury. Another
bad game from Deshaun Watson. The Giants fans were booing
Daniel Jones and who is taking the opening snap? Whose
seat is it's the hottest at quarterback right.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Now the hockey.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
How could Deshaun Watson sheet be hot when he's got
another one hundred and fifty million fully guarant team coming
to him, Like, I mean, you think he really wants
to play football, Ma, Deshaun Watson be the happiest guy
in America to go back to her sidelines again? Like,
come on, this we guy who sat out a year
to get paid to get out of Houston. Like, can
you telling me he dying to be an NFL starting quarterback?
(24:27):
He's already won. Don't win any games that matter there, dude.
He's played thirteen games there. They have twenty three offensive touchdowns,
he's seventeen turnovers. Joe Flack who played five regular season games,
he had twenty seven passes completed at twenty five yards
or more. Deshaun Watson's got twenty six, bro, and he's
been there thirteen games. He's been there three years.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Stop it, hot seat.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
If the coaches had the jam they played James Lanston,
this isn't even about football. It's about this Sennine thing
the owner did. Like, but there's no I mean, what boxie, dude,
did you watch that game you're thinking really like this
this is his calling. He's into this like he's living
in dying being the quarterback of the Cleveland Brown. Stop it.
(25:17):
I mean Daniel Jones, that thing is that thing just
looks awful. I mean Gabill taking over to play calling.
I don't know that that's gonna that that's gonna salvage
a whole lot like it's uh, it's pretty ugly. And
Cousins is not right. I mean, talking to people who
scouted that game, they Cousins never looked right to them.
(25:39):
And if it was that shaky to begin with, then
he should have been playing in the preseason to try to,
you know, get him a little bit more comfortable with
his situation. But no, I mean that that There's no
way I'd buy for a second that that that was
totally unrelated to him coming back from the Achilles and
and I think they'll be fine and a defense showed
pretty well, but no, that that's not normal Kirk Cousins,
(26:02):
and I think he will get better those other two situations,
you know, good luck would that say young in that too?
You can still brace onion that two that's they're going
to get the number one tick and they're gonna draft
the quarterback. There it is.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
He's already on record. He's Jason Locking for a one
O five seven the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post at
Jason Lock and fora where you find him on Twitter
each and every week with us here at the Jason
Smith Show with me, Mike Harmon from the Tirek dot Com,
Fox Sports Radio Studios, UH and Jason. Well with this
other than the forty nine ers running all over the Jets,
what what impressed your most coming out of Week one?
(26:39):
What team or individual?
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Team or individual?
Speaker 3 (26:48):
I was going to ask about the Cowboys, but since
we kind of eviscerated the Browns there.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Yeah, just got to push that to the Cowboys had
two yards two hundred and sixty four yards and net
offense like no, and they played against the team without
a quarterback and without starting Calimber tackles and no. No, look,
I think Buffalo, I get it, They're just playing Arizona
and maybe I'm just a Buffalo two or third. But
(27:16):
the way they responded being down fourteen to nothing and
took that game over like I like them in Miami
this weekend. I'm sorry in two days from now and
if they do win that game, then I think they'll
have shut up a lot of people and at least,
you know, gotten the heat off of them. Where again
people have been saying that their window closed two years ago.
(27:37):
I think if I if I recall correctly, look what
the Patriots did was the most impressive thing of the week.
I just don't know that it carries over, like I
think Mike McDonald's defense goes in there and suffocates them,
you know, and they lose again at home where they've
been horrible for two or three years now, and you know,
then all of a sudden, that after glows gone pretty quickly.
(27:58):
But like in the moment what they did, I didn't
see that coming. Like I didn't think they'd be able
to do nothing but run the football and beat the
Cincinnati Bengals. And I mean, what percent of one hundred
and twenty five that yard's passing? Like, That's essentially what
they did. And Cincinnati goes to all ahead, like and
that'll probably be a tight game because those two teams
(28:19):
when they play, I think are three and three the
last six times they played regular season in playoffs, And
but it puts a little bit of heat on the
Bengals to bounce back, but for now, I'm gonna do that.
In jiroon Mao's first game was it was pretty cool.
I just again don't know how much of that excuse
me is going to actually like carry over.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
He's on Twitter at Jason Lock and four that is
at Jason Lock and Foura Jay as always, buddy, thanks
for your time. We'll talk to you next week. Join
you guys this week. Go on, thank you there he goes. Hey,
just think, man, I'm telling you. We talked about it
for Jamis Winston at some point early on in the
season he would take over for Deshaun Watson because the
Browns are not going to sit and watch him not
(29:01):
play well and just say, okay, well we're paying him.
And Kirk Cousins we we've talked about him as well.
He is a bridge quarterback. Doesn't matter how much money
you're making. He's a bridge guy. And Daniel Jones I think.
I mean, when you had Brian Dable, you have to
come out and say after Game one, I'm not making
a quarterback change. That's how bad things are in New York.
When Dable has to come out today and say I'm
not benching Daniel Jones. You know how bad it is.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Daniel Jones was getting heckled walking to his car. Yeah,
they will lie. And they were lying in wait, not
autographed seekers after that game. They were booing him after
the second play. And I get that, but the fact
that you stayed in the parking lot to make sure
the man heard it one more time before he decided
to drive away. They were also burned. At least one
(29:42):
group were burning a jersey already. But the Watson things interesting,
you know, And as Jason points out, like the dead
Cat money, it's like one hundred and fifty million dollars.
It's all guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
He'll figure out'll figure out the money. They always do.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
But at least with Kirk Cousins, if he shows well,
like for a game or two, you might have enough
bad quarterback scenarios where you can spin him off to someone.
Sean Watson, that's.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Your cousin's Week nine starter. Las Vegas Raiders could very
well be you never know, exit out bout a Fresca,
exit swollen. Don The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live
from the Tireck dot Com Studios. Jets facing a fourth
and one right now at midfield because Garrett Wilson caught
a ball five yards from the out of bounds and
somehow couldn't get two feet down and so now the
Jets have to go for it on fourth and one.
They trail the forty nine Ers twenty nine thirteen with
(30:49):
about seven and a half to go in the fourth
quarterball have more on this game coming up in a
few minutes. But one of the big debuts we saw
this weekend in the NFL was Tom Brady and making
his first debut in the Fox Booth for the Cowboys
and the Browns. And I gotta say, I told you
Brady was gonna be an amazing analyst. He was gonna
(31:11):
have a phenomenal debut. He was gonna do a little
bit of everything, was gonna predict plays, he was gonna
tell great stories. He was gonna be critical without going
over the top. And boy, he did all of that
except the opposite, and decided I'm going to not really
say anything and watching Red, which look we all do
we all too though now. But but the thing is
(31:33):
is that you know what Brady looked like when I
was watching him do the game, is that he looked
like the opposite of what he was as a quarterback.
Is he looked like a guy who I don't want
to do too much. I'm I'm I'm a game manager analyst.
I'm not gonna try to say something outlandish. I'm not
gonna try to really tell a funny story like I'm
just going to stick to the nuts and bolts of
(31:53):
the game. And he was, okay. I he has the ability,
you know, he has ability to better. It was just
a debut where there were so many missed opportunities for him,
and I see him getting caught up in things that
are in his strength. Is his strength talking about what
the Browns did in the offseason on the defensive line
and how so and so was coming off the edge
on a rush, or or is his best thought process
(32:16):
saying here's what's going through the quarterback's mind when he's
rushed and steps up in the pocket, right, Like, why
is he telling me about what he sees in the
defensive end? I don't care, and and certain moments where
there were missed opportunities. They had the big graphic they
put up all the Browns quarterbacks since he came into
the league. It was like thirty seven quarterbacks in a row,
and they just throw it up there for like five
seconds and take it down. I'm like, that could have
(32:37):
been something they talked about for five minutes. Brady could
wait put those back up there. Look at some of
these guys who played. Oh, I played with Bruce Gradkowski.
I remember him.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
But that's the thing, because I actually tweeted OU at
some points like, all right, this game's out of control.
It's story time. Let's let's work in stories. You've got
thirty years of football in you. Let's go.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Yeah, he like he did. I didn't want to make
a mistake one of the big one. Yeah, I mean
that was a great one. Like well, you couldn't even
see the names. It was up there so fast, and
he paused so long. Definitely, I think in his head
is when I have something to say, let the game
action go. Let Kevin Burkhart talk. But boy, you heard
a lot from Kevin Burkhart yesterday.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
But there were a couple of points and and look
like we're talking about with teams right where everybody's got
the dumpster fire uh, you know, floating down the river
already for some of their teams and for individual players, coaches.
Whatever is the fact that it's day one, right, it
gets better now all the prep And I kept wondering
at some point was he waiting for Burkhart to address
(33:36):
him directly, like with a question, instead of him just
jumping in like yeah, but that's something you got to know,
if you know what I like, that's you and I
I mean as as we watch it, like I'm trying
and trying to be the guy in the booth, like
where where's that hiccup? Where's that gap? And how do
we fill it? As opposed to you know, there'd be
(33:58):
dead air, and you just it's like, all right, here's
your chance to jump in of what you saw from
the quarterback, what his read was, whatever and whatever else.
And in the end it's fine, right, it's it's okay.
But I think everybody was expecting, you know, an Emmy
worthy performance out of the gate. And I mean there's
growing pains at all all jobs just because he was
(34:19):
the he's the goat as reminded by you know, commercials
and his Tostito's commercial when he crashed his weddings. Now
there's a sitcom. I would watch him and Edelman crashing
weddings come on, because you know Edelman's getting after it.
But either way, there the it'll get better. Right at
the time, it will get better and they'll take notes
that film session. I'd like to see it released when
(34:44):
they go back and watch the tape.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Okay, okay, I mean I I think if you're Brady,
you see, Okay, miss an opportunity here. I missed an
opportunity here. I miss an opportunity here. And it is
one game, so okay, it's one game. But people are
tuning into see what you have to say, right, yeah,
people are watching the game, but they're tuning in to
see what the greatest quarterback any of us have ever
seen has to say. I just stay over the broadcast
(35:09):
a little bit, tell some fun story. Kevin Burke, Cardy,
the guy's are pro. He'll back off and let Tom Brady.
What's you gonna say? Tom, I'm sorry, I'm you're you're
talking too much. I need to talk more.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
No, he was ready for him. He was to chat
it up.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
Brady. I felt like he was a He was the
game manager who I didn't want to make a mistake
and I wanted to make sure that I had a
solid but not spectacular debut, and instead he's reading today. Boy,
Tom Brady was bad. We didn't like Tom Brady because
we expected things from him, and that's one thing that
I think he didn't realize that, oh, there's expectations for
(35:40):
me different from everybody else. And that's why we look
at what he did in game one and go, yeah, wow,
expected more.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:47):
I mean it's also you know, a lot of folks
with stars, no matter what the field, the poison pens
come out pretty fast.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
Right.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
He could have been great, and folks would have nitpicked
that he got a distance wrong. So, like you know
the old great power comes great responsibility, and certainly he
got the reviews. He went back and forth a little
with Scott Hansen, who took a shot at him for
laying out into offense, and they went back and forth.
It's all good, coach him up, get him ready for
(36:17):
week two, but I need to see a big improvement.
I need to see a Jets like week one to
week two improvement out of Tom Brady, that's it. I
need both those things exit.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Out about a Fresco exit swalling down five minutes to
go in the fourth till twenty nine to thirteen lead
for the forty nine Ers over the Jets. We have
more on this game and the latest with the Tyreek
kill body cam footage. All that and more coming up
the next half hour right here on Fox Sports Radio.
