(01:19):
an absolute legend in the world of Major League Baseball.
Former MLB manager Lee Elia died at the age of
eighty seven. And you're thinking, oh my god, yes, don't worry,
We're going to play it. Lee Ilia fifty years in
Major League Baseball and won the World Series with the
Phillies in nineteen eighty. The Phillies hadn't won in ninety years,
(01:39):
I think before they won in nineteen eighty. So Lee
Ilia was becomes a legend, but then three years later
he becomes even more of a legend. Now, I know,
Manci working for the Dodgers as you do, I am
sure that people talk about the Tommy Lasorda Ranta oh fair.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Oh so many times. Yeah, I know, And just his
character overall.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
You know, Tommylsorta was the man and Milly was the
character on the field and off the field until honestly
till his last day. I was giving a tour one
time and he pulled my hair and I turned around.
I was going to swing out somebody and I realized
it was him.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
I pulled my pony no hard, but he pulled my ponytail.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
And I was gonna swing because I.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
Was like, who's WOWI Hi Tommy.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
CMZ Dodger employee knocks down Tommy.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
La Hi Tommy. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
It was in the press box many many.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
Years ago, and so he was always still till his
last day.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
He was a character.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Now.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Now, did you ever ask him his opinion of Kingman's performance?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I did not do that.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
So look, that is very famous, right, the Tommulas sorda
Kingman's performance rant. We're gonna play it for you because
I'm gonna tell you. I'll give you this hot take.
The lee Ilia rant is better. The lee Ilia rant
is the greatest rant in the history of sports. But
let's give you a time frame of reference here, because
here's a tommylas sworda rant made famous after a day
where the Dodgers lost to the Cubs and Dave Kingman
(03:00):
of the Cubs, one of the best sluggers of the
seventies and eighties, former met Dave Kingdom had a big
name with three home runs.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Had a big day for the for the for the Cubs.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Tommy didn't like the question that was asked after the game,
in which he was simply asked, your opinion of Kingman's performance.
So let's hear Tommy liss Order's opinion of Kingman's performance.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
That's your opinion of king of course, my opinion of
Kleman's performance. What do you think is my opinion of it?
I think it was put that in. I don't know
opinion of this performance. He beat us with three home runs?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
To me, what is my.
Speaker 6 (03:35):
Opinion of this performance? How can you ask that.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
Question like that?
Speaker 6 (03:38):
What is my opinion of his? Problem of this performance?
He had three home runs doc to lose a game,
and you asked me my opinion of this performance. I mean,
that's a tough question asked me, isn't it? What is
my opinion of his performance? Yes? It is? I ask
(04:03):
it and you gave me and that's it. Well, I
didn't give you a good answer because I'm mad, But
I mean I'm in a good question, A tough question
to ask me? Right now? What is my opinion of
this performance? I mean you want me to tell you
what my opinion of his performance?
Speaker 5 (04:16):
Isn't me?
Speaker 6 (04:16):
That's good?
Speaker 1 (04:16):
That's right, guy?
Speaker 6 (04:20):
He gets great home runs against.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
This here's my favorite part. Oh he goes They said,
what do you have? What knocking? Eight runs? Nine?
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Like, why would you even correct Tommy on that? Not
nine nine rbs? Like it really you hear it, and
it very much has a lot of I wonder if
like if you asked Joe Peshi, hey, did you base that?
See from Good Fellows where he kept saying, why the blanke?
Am I so funny? What makes me so funny? Because
he keeps saying why am I so funny? Why about
the funny? Because Tommy keeps saying my opinion, his performance,
(04:50):
his performance, keep saying his performance over and over again.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Now that is.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Absolute gold, right, your opinion has performance. So that's great.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
But I mean this, this is honestly it's better because
well we'll just play it.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
But let me give you the recap here.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
So Lee Eliot managing the Cubs in nineteen eighty three,
and the Cubs had just been sold at the time,
like the Wrigley sale had just gone through, So the
Cubs had a lot of expectations. Now they wound up
having a really good year in nineteen eighty four and
they went to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
You know, the Cubs were, you know, their cubs the drought.
So Ilia gets.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Hired and they want, they expect and they have expectations.
He won the World Series with the Phillies a couple
of years. Hey, you stopped the ninety year drought there,
come here and do the same thing. So the Philly
the Cubs start out poorly and they lose a game
to the Dodgers four to three I think was the score,
and they lost a really bad way, like their closer
Lee Smith like like walked like walk the lead off
(05:44):
batter and then hit a guy and then a wild
pitch and something. They lost four three. So the Cubs
now early season record is bad. It's like five and thirteen,
so so the Cubs are. So it's a home game
in Chicago. The Cubs lose. It's a day game, of course,
so you know, it's like a thousand degrees. It was April,
so it was probably not too bad and so after
but after the game was over, apparently there was a
(06:05):
bit of a back and forth with a couple of
Cubs players and some fans who like through a couple
of things that out of player I think Keith Worland
was one of the outfielders. Right, So this is the
backdrop to get here. This is not just I gotta
get here. So the Cubs expectations, they lose a game,
They lose in a heartbreaking manner, and and stuff happens
with fans and the players, and Lee Eliam, manager of
(06:26):
the Cubs, decides to really let everybody know what he
thinks of the Cubs fans who came out to the game.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Now, Alex, I hope we.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
Get because the real Chicago and.
Speaker 8 (06:57):
Really behind you around here to go out there destroyed
every day and be quiet about it. For people that
show up even work, that's quite right. Find what it's
(07:17):
like to go out.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Work.
Speaker 8 (07:23):
The other fifteen come out here.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Playground.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Eighty five percent of the people work. The other fifteen
percent come out here in the cave. Why don't you
get jobs? Like obviously it was even more profanity filled
than Tommy List, sort.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
So longer, right like the one, Well, yeah, this.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
One's it was like three minutes. Yeah, this is like
three minutes. We just played the first minute of it.
I mean, you can find it unedited any places. But
I like my job and I want to keep it.
So there's that. But they just I mean going after
the fans tell how they did. I mean that Lee,
I mean just that line of eighty five percent of
the people have jobs, the other fifteen percent come out
(08:05):
here the game.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
That was a good line. That was a good line.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
I mean, you know what, I don't I don't blame him.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Good for him.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
That's defending your team, defending your players, and putting those
fans on on trick. Come on, man, I loved it
and I have heard it before unedited.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Oh yeah, it's so long.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
He won't stop, you won't stop.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
But it's always great when you play a piece of
it and you only get like seven words out of
it because he's cursing so much, right right, right, Yeah, that's.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
The best part of it. It really puts into perspective
how mad he was.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
And I know Brandon, who put it together for us.
I said, hey, I said, hey, we I just heard it.
You missed one, what I know. I'm just kidding. I'm kidding.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I'm kidding. I' kidding. Don't worry. You got it. Yeah, yeah,
he got all right. Yeah, it's all it's all good.
It's all good. It's all. It happened.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
It happened because I'm sitting here going when he died,
tests like, oh my goodness, Lee iliad like and this
is a guy that had a great baseball career. One
of these he was he had the career of he
was an okay player. He played in the medagin that's
a very short amount of time. But then I had
a big life in baseball as a coach and a
manager and again winning the World Series.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I mean that was a huge deal. Let's just think about.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Winning the World Series, like Joe Madden winning is the
Cubs manager in twenty sixteen. That's what it was like
for Lee Ely and the and the Phillies to win
the World say they'd never done it, right, So all
of that. But this is what he's known. This is
what he's known for, this rant against the Chicago Cubs fans,
because stuff happened after a game, and I get it,
you know. And and the thing is that I always
(09:33):
had this this take about the Cubs and why the
Cubs didn't win for a long time, and and sometimes
I sometimes I think it's maybe too simple, but I
really think so because you think about this again, it
was a game in April, so it was probably million. Yeah,
it was probably still you know, it's probably probably windy
and and and a little bit col but just think
of for all the years the Cubs didn't have lights forever, right,
(09:56):
so every game was a day game. Now they played
night games, but every day as a day game. And
you get into May and June and July and August,
and it is hot, man, especially Chicago.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
It's like the oddest place in the world.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Right, Like I Rememadery being a kid hearing stories about
Chicai and the temperatures in Chicago today are one hundred
and seventy five degrees. Everything is melting and it's just
going right into the river. So luckily it's a good
so and and but you're playing every single day. And
I always would think, you know, maybe if they played
night games, things would go differently because you get all
(10:31):
your energy is sapped during every day in the middle
of that heat. You're really pissed off at the end
of games when you lose because you're incredibly hot, and
it gets to you, right, Like, just think about the
average person, you know, when you're in the middle of
We're in the summer right now. We're just starting on
so the middle of July, but we get into late
July and August when the temperatures really get hot, and
(10:51):
it's all my good and think about how upset you are.
I don't want to go out in the heat here,
and these guys have to go play whether they want
to or not, every day at two o'clock man every day,
and you're out in the hottest part of that. And
I really think that there's something to the fact that
it's just so. It was just so hot. Of course,
by the time you get to August, they're done. Their
bodies are are not operating at the same level as
(11:14):
every other player because all the other teams are playing
at night, they're playing indoors. Not that they don't play
at night and indoors, but half your season is at
home during the day.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Every game is a day game. Every game was a
day game.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
And so I always thought for a long time, had
they had lights earlier, maybe things would have been differently.
Because of your energy level, your overall attitude, your happiness,
happy player is a good player, all these things are
affected when you got to go out every single day.
You know, oh we got seven seven game homestand great,
what's the temperature ninety seven, ninety eight, ninety six one
(11:46):
oh one, one hundred ninety eight, and there wasn't ever Hey,
we're gonna not play the game because the heat index
was too high.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Now we're not gonna know. You can't do. What can
you do?
Speaker 1 (11:54):
You're outside like the misery because you have to play
outdoors all the time. That's what makes this so special
is that they an't even gotten to that part.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Of the season yet.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Like it's still Hey, I'm still wearing a you know,
a jacket because it's windy and it's cold. It's probably
about fifty degrees at the end of the game when
it gets me like six o'clock with all the with
all the wind coming off the river. Okay, that's what
makes us that that he got this upset this early
in the season.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
You're blowing my mind thinking about this, right, you're blowing
my mind because I had no idea. You know, that
they didn't have the lights, and that they were playing
majority of their day games.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
It makes sense. I just didn't know. Absolutely. The heat
is draining.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
It is annoying when my friends are like, you want
to go drink, and I'm like, yeah, at night, I
don't want to go day drink.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
I'm exhausted by one.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
I'm exhausted by one, and I don't want to talk
to anybody else the rest.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Of the d No.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Wait, day drink. That's morning drinking is wait, wait, that's
morning drinking. Is what you're describing. Day drinking is day drinking.
As I'm going out on the right side of noon,
your morning drinking. I know, if you're done by one,
that means you're starting at one, eight o'clock.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Nine o'clock, like like two four ten brunch.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Okay, So I said nine o'clock. I said nine o'clock. No, no, no, no,
like before ten. That's the hour before ten.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
That's the hour before ten. Yeah, I no, no, but okay, fine,
two o'clock. But it's true.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
The sun is so draining that you absolutely you are
right that by the end of the season you're exhausted
and you're more cranky compared to other teams.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
So you're right. The fact that it was only April
and he was already this was his first season.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Uh, second season, so.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Early on I don't know.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Time fired later on.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
In the season, I believe because he cursed out well,
I don't know how more fans. Yeah, that's the thing
is that once you take on a fan base, your
own fan base.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
You're you're on Mark time.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
You're not suddenly going to come and if you're not winning,
unless you're winning, because winning makes.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Everything okay, Yeah, but then you're not also not insulting
the fan base. If you're winning, you're not.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
But if you if your fans suck and they're throwing
stuff on the field, yeah yeah, you know, like sometime
I'm not saying that that that's how you should handle
certain fan bases, but I do think certain fan bases
when they start throwing things up, the players need to
be called out. Yeah, you know what I'm saying that
don't have the job, the ones that don't have jobs.
That was a great line. That is a great line.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
I mean, just the profanity alone. I feel like if
if i'm I know, I'm splitting hairs. But I feel like,
you know, the Lee Ely as great as the Lasorda is,
the Lee Ely is.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Just it's just so legendary.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
It's so off the bat, and there's so many different
things that he says, Like Tommy Risorda just keeps going
back to his performance.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
You're right, his performance.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
I mean, any manager it's gonna get asked, like, if
you lose a game, hey, what'd you think of the
guy that had a big night against you? Like that's
a that's a storyline. And all he kept saying is
his performance, his performance. Lee Ely is going on talking
about hey, the fans and what's going on during the day,
and now nobody has jobs, and then it still goes
on for two minutes after that.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
No, wait, way more impressive because when I'm mad and
I start yelling and cursing, I lose my train of thought,
and then I don't know what I'm yelling at.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
You don't say the same thing over and over it.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
I might if I lose.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
My train of thought because I'm so mad, I feel
like that's natural, right, where you just keep going back
to it.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
That is impressive. I picture like the whole monologue.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Ready, I picture you as someone that when you get mad, Okay,
you get mad, and after it's over, like something happens,
whatever happens after it's over, you sit back and go
Some of the stuff I said, I don't remember. I
don't remember some of that. I kind of blacked out
in the middle. Maybe a little bit of that, yeah,
like some of it A little bit and then something
you started saying some stuff that I didn't even know
(15:20):
what language you were speaking.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
I didn't even I didn't even know what I was saying. Yes,
I could see that. Yeah, oh absolutely what I said.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
I didn't say that. Yeah he did, he did? Really
is okay?
Speaker 4 (15:29):
I must have meant it. Every I don't remember it,
but I meant it when I said it.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Did you mean it?
Speaker 4 (15:38):
I must have. Must have it came from somewhere.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
You sure about that? No, but I must have meant it.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Buy me what I said again?
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Eight percent of my friends go to work, you know,
fifteen percent come here and give me a hard time.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
That's what happened. Oh, rest in peace leave.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yeah, what a legend. I know, what a legend. And
especially because now I don't if we have anybody like that.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
No, nobody doesn't. Nobody doesn't.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
Really really don't we We kind of peaked with tirades
by coaches and managers in the ops, like we didn't realize.
I don't know that we have great ones, many great
ones after that.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
We really don't.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
Like when JJ Reddick dropped the F bomb and his
introductory press conference.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Oh yeah, yeah, he didn't even say one.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Now, No, lose it.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
He saved the whole thing for hating me for you know,
for that one press conference at the end. I don't
care what Jason Smith has to say.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
No, I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
He didn't curse in it though, So I mean it's okay, Hey,
y exit out about a fresca at Monsey Volaos Jason
Smith Monsey in for Mike Harbt tonight.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Yeah, I got to give it to Lee Elie over
Tommy disorder. Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Coming up next, we get into the biggest craziest basketball
story of the day that honestly, I didn't really think
it was that big a deal, but apparently it is.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Yeah, I'm freestyle. I got Papa do come up later.

(18:29):
I didn't think we'd get a Robert Griffin the Third
Angel Reese Battle today, Bud, this is what the day
brought us. When I'm reading about this earlier today, I'm like, oh,
my goodness, of course Rob Parker is going to be
trending in Yeah, Rob Parker, so here's what happened earlier
today and really, and my first part is before we
have a real serious part to get to you on this.
(18:50):
But I really can't believe that this is that biggest story.
Rg three, who now is an analyst for Fox, was
an ESPN for a while now at Fox, reported that
he spoke to uh Age, someone to Angel Reese's inner circle,
who called him to let him know that, yes, Angel
Reese does not like Caitlin Clark, does not like the
fact that and doesn't like her, mainly for the fact
(19:10):
that every time she does an interview, reporters ask her
about Caitlyn, which I would think, Okay, that's more of it.
We don't like the reporters than like Caitlyn Clark. But okay,
So he puts this out there and says that this happened,
and then Angel Reese kind of comes back and says,
I this is this is not true. I think Angel
Reese's mom actually waiting on this as well.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Angel Reese's mom responded directly to Margie Three's tweet, and
then Angel Reese had her own, you know, not responding
directly to him uh to his post and says she
just said something.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
About like lying, I'm gonna find it right now.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Lying on this app when everybody know the first and
last name of everybody in my circle for clout is
nasty work. That So she posted obviously in response to him,
but it wasn't a direct response like her mom right.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
And then and then he posted some kind of crazy
answer and put a and down.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yeah, and I almost going, this is what.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Is going on here right now? But to step back
from this because when I saw this, I said.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
This is news.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Is there anybody that thinks that Caitlyn Clark and Angel
Reese really like each other? Now we can debate whether
or not he got a phone call from someone in
an inner circle? Was it really someone in a circle
or was it someone who positioned themselves? No, I know
her really well, and she hates Caitlin for this, and
you know, because I don't think he's just making it up.
(20:30):
But did he get a phone call from someone who
maybe is just saying something and they're saying there in
the inner circle? But like, honestly, I thought, does anybody
who honestly thinks that Angel Rees and Caitlin Clark their
buds and they text they like each other? Look at
their history Okay, Angel Reese gets famous how they win
a championship. She does the ring thing during the second
(20:50):
half of the win over Iowa, and right there that's
where the battle starts, right it rages in. And yes
there's a jealousy aspect for many people in WNBA with
Caitlyn Clark. You back to the beginning of last year,
the big Kennedy Carter foul on Caitlin Clark, where Angel
Reese hugs Kennedy Carter afterwards. Oh no, but we're still
kind of cool. Okay, No, I don't buy that for
(21:11):
a second. They've been positioned against each other for a
long time. Now, you fast forward to this year, the
hard foul Caitlin Clark had on Angel Reese, and then
suddenly there was supposedly a racial aspect to it, and
then there wasn't. But Angel rees sort of inflamed it
a little bit by putting something on social media that
you could say, oh, okay, so there's no way there, buds.
If they were tight, Caitlin Clark would have picked her
(21:33):
for the All Star team.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
But she didn't. I mean, she saved most of her
hate and flex for Cheryl Reeve. Yeah, I'm not playing
for you. You don't want me. I don't want you. I
have more powerles this league than you do.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
But like I Kim, is there anybody who actually thinks
that they get that they like each other. Yes, they're
a rivalry and it's a rivalry on the floor, But yeah,
I don't. I don't think anybody for a second things
that added Like so when he reported this, I'm like, Okay,
that's news, Like really, that's I think that's something people
would just assume right away.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
Yeah, of course they don't like each other.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
Yeah, I don't think that's what people were so shocked about,
because you're right anyone who thought that they were actual friends.
Because I will give credit to both of them for
the most part, they have handled all of this really well.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Of Course they don't like each other. Of course they don't.
Their competition and they're gonna be competition for several years.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
But I think people were just more wanting to jump
on the let me trash RG three. That was their
opportunity to trash RG three. If I'm understanding correctly, I
think he has said some things about Angel Reaese, so
this was just their opportunity to jump in on that.
Speaker 10 (22:39):
He is an idiot for that entire tweet, like you
are over here saying don't use this picture, but you're
tweeting the picture like idiot.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
It makes no sense.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
Then you turn it around say, even though she did
something that caused harm to my family and I got
a call from her inner circle, we shouldn't be It's like,
I'm so confused at the mind games you think you're
playing because they're not working people.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
I think Jasoning, you know, maybe I think.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
The human race has gotten dumber in the sense of
like learning about maybe the history of the world and
things like that, but street smarts have gone up, like
nobody is buying your crap.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
RG three. This was not working on any level.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
And if you think you are gonna out smart people
with your words, it's like this isn't where the street
smarts are up.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Just general knowledge of the world. Maybe down street smarts
are up.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Now.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Look, but before you to get before you to the
serious part of it.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
And I want to say, is that like what is
like if you're talking about is it made up?
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Is it not? What's here?
Speaker 1 (23:41):
RG three doesn't have anything to gain by this by
it by by making something up. So do I think
that there wasn't some sort of back and forth somewhere. Yeah,
because hey, look RG three has been in the meat.
He understands what it is. I don't see him as
a guy. Look he's had a lot of hot takes, right,
And I get it, But I don't. I don't think
(24:01):
he's someone that's gonna I'm just gonna make this up
then and I get a phone call. So from that
part of it.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
But now you you you throw that aspect out there,
and here's and here's the part that that I really
feel that I really feel strongly about it.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
And it's sad.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
Is that.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Yes, the rivalry of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is
great for the.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
W NBA, right, it is great. Everybody has their fans.
Is it taken over the top one hundred percent?
Speaker 3 (24:23):
Is it ever going away? No, it's not. But in the.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
NBA, there's never a pitting of two players against each other.
And this is something that you see in Hollywood when
when in a on a on a on a movie
that that is fronted by a women ensemble cast, it's
woman versus woman. The fact that somehow society and and
(24:47):
the media finds a way to pit women against each other.
That's the saddest thing man. And that's the one thing
I want the w NBA to say, Hey, if you
buy into this Angel Reese Caitlyn Clark rivalry, you understand
you're just pit two strong women, talented women who are
big stars against each other. Why are you doing that?
Why did that? That's like that, that's like the biggest
(25:09):
It's one of the biggest uh defaults that I see
across the board, and I go, why do we do
We don't men don't do that to each other, but yet,
oh we find a way. Whether it's whether it's men
doing it to women, whether it's women doing each other.
Why do we pit women against each other? I don't
get that. I mean, I understand, I understand that, Hey,
you can't always lift the other person up. There's gonna
(25:31):
be rivalries. If someone hard fouls you, you're not just
gonna say oh, hey, all good.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
No, I get it.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
But when it comes to the Angelice Caitlin Clark Raffrey,
it's like, Okay, it's like we're gonna pick them against
each other and only one can survive, and it's gonna
be it's gonna be nasty and it's gonna seem like
an out of control reality show that's gonna be about
rivalries and having to get over on the other person.
And that's the one thing that the WNBA you got
to step in and make sure that this isn't what
(25:56):
it devolves to, because that's kind of what it is.
Because I think about that a lot, and I think
about how tough it is, you know, in going up
and trying to talk to my daughter now about things like, hey,
you want to be in the entertainment industry, It's gonna
be really difficult. There's lots of things that you don't
know about yet that's gonna come up and all of this.
And I was thinking about that today when I think
about how here's two stars, and yet we're gonna continue
(26:18):
to pit them against each other. No matter what it is,
We're gonna pit them against each other, whether it's here's
an RG three tweet that I didn't think was news.
Of course, don't like each other, but we don't have
to pit them against each other every five seconds, because
that doesn't help anybody, doesn't help the league, doesn't help
either of them, doesn't help women's sports, doesn't help any
of it.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
Yeah, I really wish I knew the answer as to
why this happens.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
You know, women are real. I was gonna say a
bad word.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
Women are not very nice to other women, especially in
a situation of competition.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
But you're right, this sur rivalry is not just on
the court.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
It's like being pushed outside in the real world and
making it like a real rivalry makes it seem fun
and like competitive. This isn't fun or competitive. This is
getting out of hand and it's making it where it's like,
I don't we said it yesterday. I don't even want
to mention anything about Angel Reese or Kitlyn Clark because
you're gonna get attacked by one or the other side.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
It's not it's not helping anybody.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
I don't know why men have gotten so involved in
Caitlyn Clark Angel Reese's rivalry, because there's a lot of
men really that want to chime in on this. I
don't get it either, Jason. It really does suck, and
sometimes women do suck, you know.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
What I'm saying. But these two girls like have handled
These two ladies have handled it.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
I think the best that they could. They don't really
say anything about each other. They know everybody else is
pinning them against each other. And I know Angel Reesa
has said some things, but she really hasn't said anything
about Kaitlyn Clark out loud, probably behind.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Closed doors the same way.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
I think Kitlin Clark has maybe some said some things
about Angel Reeese. But the way it's going, this is
gonna come to a halt, and I don't think it's
gonna go well. Like we're not going in the direction
of oh this is this is gonna end well for
the w nb like that.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
That's where they have to step in because you can't
what's going to be said on social media set on
social media.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
I understand that, right, Yeah, that's not what this is.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
But like it's the w NBA has gotten so popular
so fast, and I say it all the time, they've
not been ready to handle success.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
That's everything.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Bart.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
We're not ready to handle success. So okay, we can't
handle success. But you have to understand, Okay, sometimes we
have to step in and we have to say something.
We have to make sure, Okay, we don't want it
to get to this point. And I don't know if
it's something where hey, the WNBA needs to have Caitlin
Clark and Angel Reese recorder ps A together or just
you know, hey, can we can we do something here
(28:42):
to show that everything is cool and that you know,
we can everybody can be a star. Yes, someone's going
to be a bigger star than the others, but everybody's
got their thing because that's where that's where this has
been headed. It's never been headed towards an on the
court comparison. Oh, it's just who's the bigger star? And
is there jealousy? And is there this?
Speaker 3 (29:00):
And like only what now? Everybody everybody can have great.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Lives in WNBA, but they have to stand up and
Kathy Engenebert's got to come in and say, Okay, I
get what's happening here, but we have to take control
of this situation before it really gets to a point
where okay, there's no coming back from it.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
We're headed in the direction where there's no coming back
from it. We really are, and if they don't do
something about it now, and it's the WNBA, like you said,
it's so many times where it's like you've dropped twenty
seven balls in two years since Kaitlin Clark has joined
the league and Angel rees you've dropped every opportunity to
try and make this not be a reality TV show.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
You've dropped your opportunities. Obviously. I think it's a little.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
Late, but they better late than never. It's crazy because,
like you just said, both of you can be stars.
Look at the NBA has tons of stars. The face
of the NBA. The WNBA is Kaitlin Clark. That doesn't
mean Angel Rees cannot be her own damn star. That's ridiculous.
It is ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
No, No one says, Okay lebron and James is still
the face of the NBA. Nor face. But hey, wait
a minute, but what about Jalen Bronson?
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Nobody?
Speaker 3 (30:05):
What about Cooper?
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Flag? Actions or not gotta be.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
One or two? And it doesn't. It doesn't.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
And it's done in the WNBA, and it's done with
hitting women against each other, and it's just it's just terrible.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
It is terrible.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
I could not agree with you more. And I wish
I knew why. I wish I knew how to fix it.
I wish I could tell you what brings it in.
But you know, like, yeah, I've been a nasty girl
to other girls in my life.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
I don't know why.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
Why am I nastier to women than I was to
men growing up, you know what I mean. But it's
it's I don't know why. I feel like I've grown
up and I'm not like that. But I also had
a like people helping me guide me. I feel like
no one is guiding these stars in the WNBA, these
young stars, nobody is guiding them to like so many times,
I'm like a little pr training maybe we should be
(30:48):
doing with the WNBA.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Or new leadership. You come in and start to exactly.
Speaker 5 (30:53):
But maybe that's what it is, because how they're like
little things where it's like, oh man, that question Sophie
Cunningham recently in her car. It's about expanding the WNBA.
It's like a little bit of PR training goes a
long way. And the WNBA just wasn't ready for any
of this and they still aren't. Drop twenty seven balls
and counting. It's time to, you know, change, send that
(31:14):
new president knew everything.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
Hire everybody.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Yeah, everybody from the NFLPA. We fire them from yesterday
and now firebody from the WNBA. Okay good or they
just all switch shops.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
No reason, Just fire everybody, firebody, no.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
All right now. In trending, tonight. Did anybody get fired?
Speaker 4 (31:30):
No, not yet yet.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Okay, you're still young.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Okay, that night is still young.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Do you want to fire anybody from the Mets after
losing their double Huader today?
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (31:39):
The bottom four hitters in the order and the entire
bullpen outside of ds gotcha.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Okay, Well, those people are fired because the Mets lost
both of their games today to the Baltimore Orioles.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
But we've got three games going on right now.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
It has been back and forth between the Braves and
the A's and we're tied again for four.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
Bottom of the ninth inning. A's are the home team here.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
The Rangers are still on top of the Angels, but
at the East, La is on the scoreboard. Nine to
three is the score top of the seventh in La,
and the Padres have taken the lead from the Diamondbacks
at home four to two. Bottom of the sixth inning.
The Red Sox have won seven in a row. They
held on four to three against the Rays. Also, Boston
is getting their third baseman back, Alex Bregman, who's been
sidelined since May twenty fourth with a strange right quad.
(32:19):
He's gonna play this weekend. The Yankees were down five runs.
Jason came back to defeat the Mariners six' Five Seattle's
brian who had a no hitter going into the eighth
inning that was broken up By Josh Chisholm.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
Junior New york completes the three game.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Sweep New york is also the first team to win
a game after losing by five or more runs with
no hits into the eighth inning Since june twenty fourth
of nineteen seventy, seven when The expos were still, around
and it was The expos against The. Pirates that the
way that The yankees won was a sack fly walk
off in the tenth inning By Aaron.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Judge so that's how that one went.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
Down In Summer, League, Yeah Cooper, Flag bronnie J james
playing each, Other dallas wins this one In Las vegas
eighty seven to eighty. Five Brownie james ended with eight
points and to assist two. Rebounds cooper flagged not great
from the. Field he was five to twenty one into
a ten point six rebounds and this is a little.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Of what he had to say after the.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Game this is a different, game different, pace different, few different.
Space it's a lot of, adjustments but.
Speaker 7 (33:22):
We'll be all.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
Right that was the difference between you, know college and summer.
League in THE, nba The thunder and Guard Jalen williams
have agreed on a five YEAR max extension worth two
hundred and eighty seven, million and also in men's and
Women's Division one, basketball, well the committees did not make
a decision on whether to expand THE ncaa tournament from
sixty eight, teams but in their, statement they did say
(33:43):
that a decision to expand to seventy two or seventy
six teams could still come in time for twenty twenty
six or twenty twenty, seven but right, now no expansion.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Right, expage right, now right, now right, now it will.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
Happen you know they want.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
It, yeah oh, no, no, no they want.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
It And i'll tell you not only are we going
to get, it but come up in twenty, Minutes i'll
give you a BETTER ncaa.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Tournament than what they're proposing to. Be better. Tournament full of.
Ideas that's that's where we.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Are full of.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Ideas BECAUSE i can't sit here and, say, hey there's
issues and not solve. Them you're, right, uh speaking of
issues that are solving yet another bit of evidence that
we are closer to A Lebron james trade than we
have ever. Been that's, next right, Here Jason, Smith Monzie
Bolognos Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Radio be sure to catch live editions Of The Jason
Smith show With Mike harmon weekdays at ten Pm, eastern
seven Pm.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
Pacific, Now i'll tell, You alex Ty, Shirt, Hey jealousy

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Song Follow You down's my favorite? Song is that? Last?
Speaker 10 (34:40):

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Soo you gotten to that one On Ted?
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Lasso, Yeah Alex Tyshert Discovering, Sports Kirk cousins Contract Ted.
Lasso i'm like a proud dad right, now kind of.
Wild Fox Sports. Radio Jason, Smith Monzie bologos in From
Mike harmon to and we've said it most of the.
(35:05):
Week we have never been closer to A Lebron james.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Trade than we are right.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Now you hear the stories about the sides not getting,
along AND i, LOOK i keep telling you it's gonna
wind up Being lebron going back home to The Cleveland
cavaliers because that's the only place he could, finish and
if he doesn't, win it will still be okay because
he is.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
Quote going Home now the.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
Thing is is, That, look why why do we say
we're even closer? Today, well, okay so there's the video
of him wearing the welcome home hat that he's been
wearing around The akron And cleveland the last few.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Days and he's, no, no, no, no it's just a
it's just a. Hat it's just a. Thing it's not A.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Yeah, Yeah, lebron who's never done anything that's not completely. Calculated,
no there's no reason Why i'm at The cavaliers practicacility
on the fourth Of. July there's no reason Why I'm,
no it's all good up. There, yeah, yeah the welcome.
Home but this also today we had the welcome home
(36:03):
hat And DeAndre, ayton who was introduced the other day
newest member of The.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Lakers, look The lakers make a big.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
CHANCE i love the chance they took on him because
if he, works, Great if, not it's a two, year
seventeen million dollar.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Deal they can get out from that pretty.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Easy but eight and, said and this is starting to
get a lot of attention. Today he has not gotten
a welcome to The lakers text From. Lebron he got
one From Luka, doncicch but he did not get one From.
LEBRON i, Mean lebron sends signs and drops hints all the.
Time he's simply not gonna stay where he's not the
(36:38):
focus of the. Team he's not at that point yet
had his entire. Career eve when he went To. Miami, hey,
well this Is Dwayne wade's. Team he made it his
team in about eight, seconds And Dwayne wade is, like,
Okay i'll be the second guy here on the.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Team that's all.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Right even coming To la, Right, okay When ad was,
here it's Still lebron is Still. Lebron, Hey luca is,
here it's kind of the two of. Us but, now,
okay everything The lakers are doing is geared Toward. Luca
nothing is being geared toward. Him he's not gonna have
a year toiling in whatever obscurity it is for him
where he's just a, guy he's just an employee of The.
(37:12):
Lakers he's not gonna do. That and, yeah normally he
would send a text like, this Welcome DeAndre eight. Night
he could have easily gotten his phone number from. SOMEWHERE
i want it, said welcome. In we're gonna have a great.
Year but he hasn't done. It this is a big push,
Pull it's a big dare that's happening right now between
The lakers And. Lebron The lakers are Daring lebron to
ask for a, trade And lebron's gonna have to get
(37:33):
to a point where he, says, YES i want to be.
Traded but they are daring him to get. There and you,
Know lebron is nearly there because look at what's going
on the last few. Days no text to eight and
the welcome home. Hat i'm working out. Here you hear
all the. Again many insiders have talked about the relationship
with The lakers And lebron is maybe in the worst
place it's. Been he doesn't have influence over the team.
Anymore the team was. Sold it's just we're getting closer
(37:55):
and closer to. That AND i think people are blowing
it off simply, because, well he's ever been traded for. It,
no this is. Different he needs to control how it,
ends how he ends his. Career this is just another
bit of, evidence and we still have. Time we got
the rest of this month to figure it. Out they
will get to a point When lebron knows that he
could get, traded right because it's got to be a
(38:15):
Little they gotta finesse things a little bit In. Cleveland
when he knows that he can get traded is when
it will come. Out, OKAY i want to get Dealt
the back channel stuff is all. Done send me back
To i'm going back To. Cleveland we're gonna make it.
Happen i've asked The lakers for a trade.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
And chams will have, It i'm. Sure And i'm going
back To.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Cleveland and then it'll just be crossing the t's and
dotting the eyes and who winds up going to The
lakers or or two or three other teams needed to
be involved to make the money, work because it is
very difficult With lebron's contract and some of the guys
that The cavaliers would potentially trade to The.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Lakers.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
YEAH i have been on the same train as, you
thinking that if he were to not play for The
lakers or end his, career there's only.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
One team he can go back, to and it would Be.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
Cleveland because regardless of what, happens it won't be it
won't be a bad taste in your. Mouth it'll be
he went, home and that's how he finished his. Career
it's kind of ridiculous For lebron to say LIKE i want,
it or to think BECAUSE i agree with you that
he's LIKE i want to leave Because i'm not gonna
be number, one my, guy if you go To, cleveland
you're gonna be number.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
One i'm using air quotes.
Speaker 5 (39:16):
Because in, reality It's Donovan mitchell that's gonna be number.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
One he's gonna be Your he's gonna be your number.
Speaker 5 (39:22):
ONE i guess you can pretend to be number, one
but you you don't have that.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Anymore you're you've been playing twenty three.
Speaker 5 (39:28):
Years like what you're capable of doing is, awesome but
realize that you are not the number one.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
Anymore you have to realize.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
That, yeah but he can go back To.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
Cleveland he's, right and he can play The, Hey i'm
the missing piece, Suit i'm. Here dad is, home, Right
dad's home everybody. Everywhere hold and when it gets to the,
playoffs because you're getting me to win playoff. Games, right
when it comes to the Play i'm. Okay like during
the regular, season like with a d he was always
okay with adb your. Guy he might have been okay
With luca being the. Guy wo when the. Playoffs, come,
(40:00):
okay now it's my, time and he can he can
do that In. Cleveland he can't do It lakers, anymore
but he can do that In.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Cleveland it's it's just.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
