Please give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour two The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, live live from the
tirag dot com studios.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Tirec dot com. I'll hope you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
An unmatched election, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirat dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, if you were
smart and enterprising listen to someone like my bes friend
Miike Harmon, you would have started. George Kittle tonight and
oh boy, five catches fifty eight yards. Kittled just in
(01:02):
the end zone for his second touchdown of the night.
So now it's a twenty nine to seventeen lead. The
forty nine ers have over the Seahawks, and I gat
I kinda. I mean, I don't have a dog in
this fight, obviously, but I feel good about this because
I feel like, Okay, the forty nine ers should be
winning because they've been crushing the Seahawks the whole game,
and the fact that it's still this close, really it
(01:23):
doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Well, the awful Yeah Seahawks had had the six first
downs before the return touchdown. Then they mounted a really
good drive and plunged in with the Kenneth Walker, the
third who hasn't done much, but he gave you that touchdown.
So you breathed a huge sigh of relief in your
daily fantasy or your your weekly contests. But otherwise, Gino's
(01:47):
been terrible on his birthday. Not the best thirty fourth
birthday no, anybody's had.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Sometimes your birthdays are great. Sometimes you don't remember them
because you threw up all night. And that happens that way,
or is it working on that That's just I'm not
saying that happened.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Somebody was throwing up.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
There wasn't one Yeah of the game, but it was
not Geno, But there was a Seahawks player throwing up
the sideline.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I have not confirmed his identity at this juncture. But
all in you know, there's been a couple of big drive,
a couple of big plays. There was a bit of
a controversy on a punt where it clearly hit the
Seahawks returner. It got reviewed on a coach's challenge and
still nah whatever h Seahawks ball. But then Gino throws
(02:27):
what is now a backbreaking interception that leads to that
second Kittle touchdown on his birthday too. Yeah, and we
sit here at twenty nine seventeen.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Should I sing to Gino Smith for his birthday?
Speaker 5 (02:41):
Happy birthday, you love, Happy birth To be fair, he
did last a little longer than the eight games you
gave Sam Darnold, Tonko Pumpkin.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Your rating was under eighty for this game. Happy birthday
to you. Wow, Happy birthday to you. Your fantasy points
total about two. Happy birthday, dude, Gina.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Oh do you get minus two per interception two hundred
nine yards?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
I should sing? I should have never started you. You
shouldn't have anyway.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Oh, come on, he was averaging like twenty three points
a gay the last couple of well he was.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
He was a back hid one high end two I
think would have been here, but certainly. I guess if
you go, hey, he's at home and a big Thursday
night and he's got all those receivers.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah, it didn't matter. Yeah, so again twenty nine to seventeen.
We'll have more on this game coming up. But as
well as the Yankees who clinched there in the ALCS, congratulations,
then congratulations to my dad. Uh, he's very excited. Fabiano
very excited to Uh. I'm sure all the Yankee fans
of my life were really exciting. And look at hey,
I'm happy for the second best team in New York
because I feel like they stood up and helped represent
(03:53):
the best of New York state.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Look, any guy that goes and adopts, you know of
our age who decides that they're a Cowboy fan, a
Yankee fan, a Laker fan, or a Celtic fan, depending
on which side of that you chose. At that at
that time, Timeline, Hey, have at it. Find your wins
where you can. That's how we're promised to me.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
There's no way Fabiana was awake for this. I'll tell
you that. Well, now you would have heard that from him.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
No, my dad has a better chance of being awake
than Fabiano. Yeah, big update from the game. Gino Smith
has just heaved one to DK Metcalf for a touchdown,
probably about sixty five yards, but dk Metcalf is not happy,
which means it looks like it's coming back.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
A flag on the play.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
This would have made it a one score game with
about four and a half minutes left to go. An
illegal procedure penalty on the Seahawks, so Seattle still has
the football still down twelve instead of being ready to
cut the lead to less than the touch.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
And they did a cutaway Deebo Samuel motioning along with
the referee. He looked like he was a sign flipper
telling you to go find an open house or a
big lots closing.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Earlier in the game too, though they had.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
A DK would be touchdown, they had to settle for
three after all that dopey clock management ahead of the halftime.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
But he had the.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Fluorescent green cleats so it didn't blend in. Yeah, another
one has gotta wear the white cleats, man, I mean,
don't you know at this point you gotta wear white cleatches.
He got to if you're a receiver in the NFL,
wear white cleats. Wear white cleats. Tell you yeah, I
used to. I had a coach in high school. Our
football coach. Bill McGee was our coach. He was the
assistant coach, and he would always every time, would have
(05:38):
been better if it was Bobby McGee.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
And he was a really good coach. He was a
fun guy, and he would always I hear wear white cleats.
He would always say, because we had white bar or
we were maroon and white. Right, that was like, okay,
we have maroon jerseys and white pants. He would always
tell her because we played in the dust ball, right,
we didn't have a big Artifi turefielder. He played in
the dust ball And he would tell everybody after game
and every ball, go home and wash your white pants.
(06:04):
Wash your white pants, cause you think you're gonna get
another pair, because they're gonna be.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Dirty and you're not. You're not gonna get them. Wash
your white pants.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
And he would say after every game, whether we won
by thirty, which never happened, or we lost by thirty,
which happened a lot, he would always.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Say, hey, wait, coach Mick is gonna say something.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Everybody wash your white pants, wash your So I feel
I feel like that, would I.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Go, where are the white cleats. Where are the white cleats.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
There's plenty of substances and methods by which to get
them completely clean again. Now, I mean, my mom was
a wizard with getting the dirt out of football pants.
I don't know how she did that. By the time,
the warmarks off of the helmet, we like those, though
we love the stick marks. No, the stick marks were great.
Oh no, our guys would get pissed. We'd have to
clean them.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Although those are the bests.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I got stick mark, but hey, hel much the helmet
with that guy, oh on stick at the street marks
were bad.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
The streak marks were bad. That's why wash your white pants.
Wash your white pants.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Now, we'll keep you.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Because you're thinking, which is like somebody go, hey, coach,
got get extra pair of white pants.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
You're not on Wednesday. You're not gonna get it. Not
gonna get him.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
So again, Seahawks with the football three point forty left
to go, driving to try to cut this into a.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
One score game. We'll keep you updated on this.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
But big news in the NFL today, everybody's favorite NFL
soap opera continues. Yes, Robert Sala Fighters, head coach of
the Jets. We've talked about that. Jeff Albrick defensive coordinator,
now the new acting head coach, and what he has
done today is what was rumored the last couple of days.
Nathaniel Hackett has been demoted as offensive play caller for
(07:40):
the Jets. He's the offensive coordinator. He will no longer
call plays. Todd Downings, who's the quarterbacks coach, former OC
with the Titans, is now going to call plays for
the Jets. Nobody's losing a title. He's still the offensive coordinator,
but he's no longer calling plays.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Now you think, oh my goodness, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Aaron Rodgers says he's completely on board with this big
press conference today. There really is nothing to see with
this story because in the end, they do want to win.
Rogers knows the offense needs to change. He's not sitting
here saying it for the first couple of weeks. We
can't run this out of the pack. We can't do
this thinking that, oh, it's not Nathaniel Hackett's fault, like
he understands, Hey, dude, I will throw you under the
bus if I have to. There's nobody Aaron Rodgers won't
(08:17):
throw under the bus. I will throw you under the
bus if I have to, because if you're screwing me up,
I will throw you under the bus. So there's not
a second none. Don't for a second believe that, oh
this is not really happening. Rodgers is gonna be bad. No, no, no.
The one thing Aaron Rodgers cares about what have two
thumbs and cares about him by that this guy right,
if you screw me up, I will have no problem
(08:39):
saying here you are, here's the bus, you go under the.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Wheels, and now I got a new guy calling the plays. Right.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
So this absolutely has everybody on board. There is nothing
to see with this story. I would say this.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
The one concern is that you know, in Tennessee, you
know what, ninety percent of their successful offensive plays were
giving the ball to Derek Henry two steps to twenty two.
So sore Aaron Rodgers, I mean, hey, that's you.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
You You did develop a different playbook.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
What you had the occasional Tannehill chuck it up or
Malik Will well it's Malik Wills.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
But really won a couple of games for the Packers.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
When you hear Toimes calling plays, you really think that
Todd Downy's calling places or is Aaron Rodgers calling the plays?
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Like I mean Aaron Rodgers is calling the plays, it
means they will get into the huddle on time. But look,
this is the big takeaway from today because this is
where at you want to push this story forward. Right again,
nothing happens without Aaron Rodgers says, So he is evidently
okay with his best friend.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I did not have of contact with my owner.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Now, when you say contact, does that mean not via
text zoom?
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Or does that mean not in person? Like how do
you define contact? I think you get in just a
chin nod. So, look, this is happening. Everybody's on board.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
This is not a story because look, Rogers looks out
for himself, so of course, But this is the this
is the part for the Jet. This is where I
am right now. Are things going to get better for
the Jets? I am one hundred percent confident will not
because it's my team, not because I hope so. But
they've made the right moves.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Can't can't offers.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
They got rid of a head coach who was a
bad head coach. Much do you want to say, oh,
did Aaron Rodgers get him fired?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Dude? I got three years of Robert Sala being a
bad head coach. Stop.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Yes, they got rid of it. They got they made
a move on offense, so they're not calling the same old,
stale plays because that was another criticism that Rogers and
other players have had for the offense, were too predictable.
All these things are good, I am. I have no
doubt this is going to be good.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
Again to ask the question though, yeah, does Aaron Rodgers
not have the ability Now he didn't have the time
often oftentimes when his choices came into the huddle, But
doesn't he have the autonomy to just flip Nathaniel hack
it off and do what.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
He wanted to do anyway?
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah, you gotta do it on every play though, Yeah, sometimes,
I mean you get tired.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
I didn't like what at some point he just say,
you know what, I'm the captain.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Now they have but they have a relationship where okay,
let let's try to work this. But the strategy the
Jets wanted to put forth, we're going to run us
out of the pass not looking good when they're throwing
the same kind of passes up and they're running the
same kind of plays and the defense is turned around.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
For the football before the wide receivers do. Yeah, you
know there was.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Time for a change. I think with each snap he
also gets to dip it in chalk. So if it
hits his receiver and you see a chalk mark, it
recounts because that's the other big thing that really needs
to change for your offense.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Chalk flew up. But there, you know there's a butt coming.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Will things get better for the Jets? One hundred percent?
Absolutely ask me when ask me when things are going
to get.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Better, Tell me, mister wizard, and five when will things
get better for the Jets?
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Things will get better for the Jets week nine, week ten,
because the one thing the Jets have to hang their
head on and understand is that it depends on if
eight is still eight. Right, This is what we've said.
It doesn't matter who's calling the play as the head coach.
If Aaron Rodgers is not Aaron Rodgers anymore, and in
(12:00):
the last few weeks it doesn't look like he is.
He looks skittish, he doesn't look like he has the
arm strength to get the ball downfield. He's throwing it
early behind his wide receivers. It is a mess right now.
To give a little bit of because look, no one's
been harsher on Rodgers, and I've been the last last
few weeks. But to give a little bit of a
window into it, this is still a forty year old
quarterback who is coming off the season of a devastating injury,
(12:24):
who has not had any practice reps when he's in
any kind of danger of getting sacked or getting hit.
Right that all this stuff has gone on this summer.
I'm sure things were great when Rogers has time to
throw in practice and they just can get around him
and wave their arms. But now that everything is going
for real, you see the problems the Jets have. There
is going to be a mental and a physical barrier
(12:47):
that Rogers is gonna have to knock down, and that's
not gonna happen until week nine, week ten, until he
gets really back into a swing of playing football for
a long time.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
It's been five weeks, but remember he missed it for
a whole year. Alright.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
He had four plays and again, not a lot of
football's flying. For real, what's it like with this new team?
So yes, do I think it's gonna get better, one
hundred percent, but it's not gonna be till week nine
or week ten, and until then, the Jets just have
to stay afloat. If they can win this week against
the Bills be tied for first place, everything will be great, because,
all right, how far can you fall? You know, with
(13:20):
the schedule. You know for week nine, week ten. Other
teams are having problems in the AFC. But it will
get better, but it's gonna be at least another month.
Probably week ten. I'm thinking this is when you'll see
the closest version of Aaron Rodgers to what he is,
because mentally and physically he's got to get past barriers. Mentally,
he's got to get past the barrier of staying in
(13:40):
the pocket, being able to be comfortable delivering the football
at the right time. And physically it's okay, I feel
strong enough to make these kind of throws. I don't
have to throw the ball off my back foot after
a one and a half step drop before my receiver
turned around. So they don't have the arm strength to
get it out there, or I don't trust the offensive line.
It's just gonna be a little bit of time because
of that, but it will get better, but it's gonna
be a.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
Bit Buffalo at Pittsburgh at New England, Houston, Arizonas that
week ten at the Colts at home week eleven before
the bye, and I'll ask the great question from a
classic movie, what.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
If this is as good as it gets? I think
the roster is too talented for it to be this good.
This be good as against roster's too talented. They will they
will find you have too many playmakers at different positions.
They're too talent. They're too big to fail. The Jets
are too big to fail. I was more looking at
number eight and what if that.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Was as good as it gets?
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Tron Taylor go tailor tailor, so in Travis time, Baby,
come on, it's they're at the rookie She.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Was hell hopfu he's healthy, but I don't think he
is yet.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Exit up bout a Fresca exit swallowing down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon live for
the ti rack dot Com Studios. Uh coming up next, boy,
We're gonna have a fun end here. The forty nine
Ers lead the Seahawks twenty nine to twenty four. The
Seahawks get in the end zone, forty nine Ers have
the ball back with just under two minutes left to go.
But the Seahawks have all three timeouts. They could get
(15:12):
the ball back one more time to pull a victory
from the jaws of what looked like a certain defeat.
That's coming up next right here, Jason and Mike, you're
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Ninety percent of hiring decision
makers expect to face hiring challenges this season.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
It's clear that hiring is hard.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
live from Thetirack dot Com Studios. Nearing its end in Seattle,
forty five seconds left to go the forty nine ers
after Kyle uest check touchdown and TJ.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Maybe ust check my fantasy stats and see how many
points that touchdown was worth.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Thirty six twenty four is the lead. Probably should have
had a touchdown on the play before, as Isaac Marendo
was gone for a seventy yard touchdown, but he decided
to slide down when really, with the Seahawks having three
timeouts left, you should try to get in the ends.
So instead, what happened was the next play the forty
(16:45):
nine Ers got in the end zone. So it's a
last gas chance for the Seahawks. Now again, forty seconds
left to go. Gino Smith was just sacked. They are
down by twelve. The forty nine Ers are gonna win
this game, and it really it baffles me that this
is the score of the game. The Seahawks played so
poorly in the first half, and somehow it was a
(17:05):
touchdown game for a while. In the second half. The
forty nine Ers did everything they were supposed to do.
They run the football well, they've thrown the football well, defensively,
played well, and.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Somehow this is it.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
It's like watching a Jets game, even the games that
Jets win, can't make it easy. Can't like watching Diaz
close the ninth in and can't make it easy.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Can't make it easy.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
I think it goes back to you talked about it
the struggles they had last week, and they put up
thirty six points, So yeah, they still got there. But
the idea of red zone inefficiency a week ago against Arizona,
that was the story of the first half, right, A
lot of big drives, opportunities and settling for right field goals.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Look, it's very difficult to reconcile when you dominate that
much across the board and still have to sweat out
a victory. Right, it doesn't make any sense. But this
was the game tonight. But the main thing I'm gonna
tell you, we're gonna have Jay Glazer coming up in
a couple minutes.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
The forty nine look close to.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Back being the forty nine ers that they were. Right,
We saw a lot of great stuff from them tonight
and mainly for San Francisco. Sometimes you just need a
few weeks. You can't just pick up where you left off.
When your left tackle shows up five days before the
opening game, when your top receiver shows up a week
and a half before the opening game, when you're number
one running back who as good as Jordan Mason has
(18:23):
been Christian McCaffrey does so much in the passing game.
When he gets hurt and misses games early, sometimes eat
a little bit of that and neat a little bit
of mental hurdle to get over because when you're used
to going deep in the playoffs every year into the
Super Bowl, sometimes those early season games, eh, you know,
you start out a little slow. That's kind of what's
happened to the forty nine ers. But they're getting healthier,
they're playing better. This was the best game I've seen
(18:45):
them play over the first go outside of the big
blowout win over the Jets the week one, This is
the best game they've played in over a month.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
But it's a sexier version of what the Chiefs have
been putting up. Right, Cheeps are undefeated, yeah, but for
the forty nine ers have been some big splash plays
and obviously Mason becomes a bit of a star. He
gets injured tonight, so we have Guerendo come in and
he goes for one hundred yards, including this seventy six
yard run. So yeah, just rounding into shape after the
(19:15):
first quarter. Now, now it's time to play football, especially
out of Thursday Night against the division opponent.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
It's a final thirty six twenty four. The forty nine
ers even their record at three and three, joining us.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Now I'm the hotline.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
No body better NFL on Fox Insider Extraordinary Jay Glazer.
You can find them on Twitter at Jay Lazer. What's happening, buddy?
Speaker 3 (19:34):
How are you going on?
Speaker 6 (19:36):
God?
Speaker 1 (19:37):
You know, look, we were just talking about this. The
forty nine ers win. Even though the games was closer
on the scoreboard, they were pretty dominant. I feel like
I have less concern about them now after this game.
Where are you and where the forty nine ers are?
Speaker 6 (19:50):
I haven't come up look at the forty nine ers
probably game by game thing early in the season, no
matter what I mean. The White Coyle Shana had always
have a team ready, especially late this season, Like you know,
when it's kind of comes out of crunch time, they're
going to be a team that you don't want to
see on your schedule. So I don't really have a problem.
Plus plus also like so much like look that offense,
it's such a difficult offense to go against when they
(20:12):
have all their weapons. So McCaffrey's still out, is still
going to be out there they're still kind of you know,
assessing that when you have him in, when you have
te Bow in, when you have Kidd, when you have
all these different guys in there, but you never know
who's lining up where. Such a hard offense to be
aggressive with because you're aggressive with the rumber Like you know,
you may see people on the field and you think
of the receiver is really a running back. You know,
(20:34):
McCaffrey's lining up, You're like, oh, you think he's a
running back. He's really lining up at HVAC or he's
runing up, you know, lining up live. So it's so
hard and I think that's you know, as the season
goes on and Kyle kind of gets more and more
on other teams, they're just they're they're hard to prepare for.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Obviously, the seventy six yarder from Guerendo puts upunk Jaisabar,
but Jay, they rushed for over two hundred yards to
night against what was supposed to be a pretty strong
Seattle defense.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
I know they're ain't up and all, but they owned him.
Speaker 6 (21:02):
Yeah again for then, this is always shining a hand team, right,
they always they're always great and how they run the ball,
even like before they had MacCaffrey, the Elijah Mitchells on
the wall the world and breeding and stuff like that.
You know, it's like they've always been able to brush
well because again with Kyle's offense, you just don't know
who load up against. You could He's like he would,
he'll have something. I think Brady set up the game
the other day. You'll go out there and you'll think
(21:25):
everything is loaded up for them to run left, and
you're all set up, and all of a sudden, somehow,
you know, as the play charge, all the power is
suddenly on the right side. It's completely different than what
you taught when you lined up.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Jay to get away from this game and obviously the
the the soap opera that has dominated the last few days,
the Jets fire Robert Salah.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Jeff Albert is the soap opera.
Speaker 6 (21:49):
That's a stable organization.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Yeah, as the world turns, it's like trying to walk
across a thin, a thin sheet of ice on a
lake in the winter.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
So they fire Robert Salad. Jeff Ulbrick is a new
head coach. They're still gonna call plays defensively. They replace
Nathaniel Hackett as the play caller today with Todd Downing,
where are you after after seeing what's going on with
the Jets the last few days? Where are you on
what's going on?
Speaker 6 (22:15):
Well? Here here's well first, let's go Obrick. Jeff Olbrick,
whether he was the head coach of the Justice here
or someone else, that is the guy that everybody kind
of looks at in this league like that's your defensive
Sean McVay as far as like he's that leader, like
it's man the Battle of Flora, the Raheem Morrison, dan Quinn,
like dan Quinn is like he is broomed this guy
(22:38):
to be that next guy for so long and Bricks
does the guy out there he played for the forty
nine for a long time. I got a funny story,
try it a little bit, but forty nine for a
long time. He's a tough dude, and like he's a
type of guy like you want that, you want Jeff
Olbrick's mandalin, you want his attitude. It's gonna be a
gang fight out there for him. So I think he's
going to be a head coach for a long time
(22:58):
this league, whether it's with the Jets or somebody. But look,
I can never figure out what he Johnson. You asked
me to figure out what he Johnson. That's there's nothing
I could ever do. But I think I think that
I think Boll Douglas done a great job person all
wives over there. I think you know a lot of
it too, Like Aaron just doesn't played well. A lot
of it is and the offense just doesn't have any
(23:19):
rhythm altile like there, wunning games should be a lot
better than it is. So I do think that, you know,
they do need more of an identity over there. But
I also think like everyone's a successful with Aaron Rodgers,
we haven't played a year, he didn't play any preseason games.
You do have to get that timing down with you know,
your receivers, which running game or your offensive line. I
think they're struggling to get from that timing down. But
(23:39):
I do still think, like person who wise, I think
they're a really good team. And you know, I think
even with Sala, I think they're going to come through.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Does the change make it any more likely that Devontae
Adams walks through the door.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
It has nothing to do with it. One has nothing
to do with the other. I mean, they're looking for
a two plus and teams just aren't willing to give
it like try. If the Jets everybody willing to give it,
two already would have been done. But teams aren't willing
to do that. And that's what's happened. I think Mark
Davis wants one thing, and the owners of the Jets
and you know, other owners like, now, we will to
do this, and DM's like, we're just willing to do this,
(24:12):
and and that's the thing. If they were, you know,
in the pre seasons, teams were calling to try and
the forty nine ers you thought to that one of
the teams called the trying trade Jets. Obviously they changed three.
A bunch of teams calling and their GM was like, no,
I've got to give him, give him time with Antonio Pierce,
(24:33):
like I just can't trade him away. I got to
give at a shot. But you know, his coach and
I talked to over there saying, you know, and he
I think, You're like, no, we don't have our quarterback
in the future. So he's going to get frustrated. And
we know he's gonna get frustrated, and you know, obviously
that's what's happened.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
The thing that Jay I think Devanta. Adams is such
a game changer. He's still so terrific. Okay too and
something else. Okay, I'm ready for it. Okay, what do
you want to and something else like this is getting
DeVante Ada. I can't believe that other teams, he said, yeah, sugar, because.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
But no, because it's a one year deal. Because the
rest of the contract, that's the thing you don't want
to get. But two and something else. That's a lost
for a guy for one year. You don't want to
run a guy for one year and give him a
two is just too too valuable. And I know you're
looking at it from you know, man, it's about Adams,
but not for just a one year dude, you gotta no,
that's that's that's the other thing. There's not a lot
of teams that could cut him on the cap right now.
(25:27):
They can probably have to redo a deal get him
in there.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
I'm just thinking about all the teams where maybe guys
are going by the end of the year, I may
not be here, so I don't need to leave the
coverage stock.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
Well that's not the head coaches. The gms will be
there and they're like, I don't want to get.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Jay Glazing with us the Jason smithser with Mike Carmen
live from the tirerec dot Com studios. All right, so
I don't know if tonight you're hanging out with Mike Tomlinson,
but we got to get in our requisite Steeler stuff
with the quarterback situation. Russell Wilson's back at practice. Justin
Fields is still playing well. You talked about how much
the Steelers love him dealing with the George Pickens drama
this week? Is this is this a is this a
(26:07):
a a winner take all week for Justin Fields where
if he has a big week, okay, if not, we're
gonna see Russell Wilson play quarterback.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
I don't. I don't know the answer because I can't
tell you what kind of week here. Here's the thing,
No matter what the Steelers, okay, Steelers are not They're
they're They've told bultous quarterbacks, you're gonna play with our identity.
Our identity is defense and running the ball, and we're
gonna grind out and grind out. We're not gonna play
you know, Russell Wilson ball, and you know, let Russell Cook.
We're not doing that, right, We're not doing this thing.
(26:36):
We're not gonna blow him but out thirty five to seven,
since that their identity, it's not how they want to
play football. So I can't tell you if you know,
with Justin fields like you know, like not the quarterbacks,
they're really gonna light it up and it's not really
what they're trying to do. But I think they's just
for Justin. They just want him to to be efficient
and you know, make plays with the flags that they
(26:57):
need him to and certainly not turn the ball over.
He turned the ball over, but I can see them
making a move, but I don't know that. Again, that's
that's all hypothetical because he doesn't you know, and he
keeps just growing, continue to grow. Like they do love
Justin fielder there. They love him. They love him over
there and they could see him being a future over there.
But there's certain things he's still got to grow.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
With Jay from one former Bears quarterback to what could
have been as the requisited you know, representative of Chicago
on the network, there's all this Tom Brady talk, you know,
just day after day it's another story and now you
got ownership chiming in. How close was this and why
are they taunting me three years later.
Speaker 6 (27:36):
Well, because no one knew about what happened was Brady
did a Tampa game and he was like, hey, here's
actually how I got the Tampa which is why you
want Tom Brady as you're broadcaster. And I don't think
he's ever told the story before. He even said that,
like Kevin, I've never said this support. And what he
did was he put it's pretty interesting. And Tom and
I talked about Hi separately. He had like eighteen criteria
(27:59):
and then he raided them all. I think it was
one of three points for three or five points or
something like that, and then he added them all up
for all the teams that they were like eight teams
and the Bears were right behind. And when he told them,
the Bears were actually off. And I believe more than
Damp I think. I don't remember what I think, so,
but like just the points that it added up. But
(28:22):
no one had heard Chicago before. We knew about the
other seams. You never knew about the Bears. That's why.
So yeah, that's the great thing about having Tom Brady
on on our team now, and you're gonna hear somef
like no one ever heard anything about nobody. They did
a freaking ten part documentary at that. You know, nobody
knows about him.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
I mean I tried to talk it into existence all
those years ago, but you know they that clearly fell
on deaf ears and I do know.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Look it was Ryan Pathon and Matt Maggie were trying
to get this un and yeah they were. They were
under the radar, but they were seconds actually, like a
real stealth second right behind the buccaneers.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
He's on Twitter at Jay Glazier. That's at Jay Glazer. Jay,
thanks so much, especially today being World Mental Health Day.
I know you talked to Michael Rappaport earlier on the
podcast today.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
How did that go?
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Oh great? He's a lyricus man. It's great and obviously
with you know, our cover seven just happened. Him also
very outspoken. I was like, man, how do you deal
with all the social media? Because my feelings get hurt.
I don't know how you deal with this. It's pretty
interesting what he said. But the World Mental Health Day
is I put a close up today and I'm gonna
thank you guys and thank everybody out there. I could
(29:34):
never imagine I'd be talking about this on radio ever.
You know I hit it for so long and now
I'm radio, I'm I'm television talking about this kind of walk,
his walk with so many of you out there, and
it's changed my life. It's put me in a position
of a level of happiness and joy. I never knew
I could really they were able's capable of feeling so
(29:56):
on this World Mental Health Day. Mental health is not
just the grace, It's not just depression anxiety. It's also
like building ourselves up, building that mental wealth up. And
with all your listeners and you guys get me the platform.
You all have definitely built wealth up and I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Incredible run for you, incredible year NFL on Fox. You're
you got married and Howie Long is your uber driver?
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Like that's a pretty good year.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
The four Stars.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Still has four stars?
Speaker 3 (30:24):
How you long?
Speaker 6 (30:25):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Check out Jay on Twitter at Jay Glazer, the Link
World Mental Health Day, the interview on the podcast with
Michael Rappaport. It is there, Jays always, Buddy, keep fighting
the good fighting man.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
We'll talk to you.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Appreciate your brother Bigger. Unbelievable stuff from Jay Glazer. Unbelievable stuff.
How about Jeff Ulbrick is the Sean McVeigh. There's the
lines of coaches there.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
You go, wow, he's dropping his story down there, and
then he gives you that one line. It's like, hold on,
hit rewind? Did I did I hear that?
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Right?
Speaker 1 (30:54):
I mean I love that have Jeff Albrick. But to
think about that that, let's go what he's got throughout.
He is the Sean McVeigh of defensive c oh wow,
all right now, the Sean McVay of update anchors. It's
special delivery Steve to say, let's go with what's going
on right now, meaning I'm as young as Sean McVay.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Yeah, and you walk around saying run it back, run
it back.
Speaker 7 (31:15):
Well, we had a miners team at Seattle tonight that
was zero and three in conference, including a loss to
the Rams. But San Francisco did win at Seattle thirty
six twenty four Gino Smith in the loss three hundred
and twelve yards passing but one touchdown two interceptions. In fact,
Nick Bosa tonight generated fourteen pressures on the QB, tied
(31:35):
for most pressures by a pass rusher in any game
over the last four seasons. He had fourteen against the Rams.
A couple of years ago, Brock Purty three touchdown passes,
two to George Kittle, one to Deebo Samuels at seventy
six yards. Deebo Samuel three catches one hundred two yards
and that score. The new kicker, Matthew Right with three
(31:56):
field goals in the first half of sixteen to nothing
lead Jake Moody out with the high ankle Spring San
Francisco wins to go to three and three. Seattle falls
to three and three. The Jets demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Todd Downing X of the Titans will now call the plays.
Head coach Robert Sola was fired this week. Interim coach
Jeff Obrick will remain defensive coordinator. The Jets host Buffalo
(32:18):
on Monday night. Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson practice fully today
after the oblique injury, but running back Jonathan Taylor did
not practice due to the bad ankle, and wide receiver
Michael Pittman did not practice. To the American League Division series,
the Yankees take it in four. They won at Kansas
City three to one tonight, the win to Garrett Cohlo
pitched seven inks Yanks three games to one. They win
(32:39):
the best of five, but there will be a game
seven Saturday in Cleveland. In the other Al division series,
Cleveland stayed alive, winning at Detroit five to four top
of the seventh. There was a two run pinch homer
tonight by David Frye. The Minnesota Twins are exploring the
sale of the team. Tomorrow a game five padres at
Dodgers on Fox TV to and their best of five
(33:00):
NL Divisional round in the WNBA Finals. Game one Minnesota
one in overtime, ninety five ninety three at New York
is New York star Breanna Stewart missed a free throw
at the end of regulation and missed a layup at
the end of overtime to the NHL. Among the nine
games tonight in progress at San Jose up to to
(33:21):
one in the second on the Blues, Boston with a win,
Utah one, and overtime Pittsburgh in LA with victories back
to you, Thank.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
You, Steve.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Though the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from
the Tirack dot Com studios, we got more NFL on
the way coming up next. Yes, Robert Sola, Fighters Jets
head coach. The other day who's the next head coach?
Should be looking over his shoulder. That's next, right here,
Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Can play this song whenever you want, ty shirt. We're
in the NLCS. I don't care, doesn't matter wrong, play
as much as you want.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
I mean, not for long. You guys got champagne. Doesn't
even start till Sunday. It'll be over soon. Okay.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Hey, let me ask you this. What who are either
of the teams the Mets can play in the NLCS?
Padres are Dodgers?
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Wow? And where did the Padres play? Same place that
a lot of people go for vacation in California? San Diego?
Did you have to wait until Frostburg? Gyeld out? Just
say san Diego.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
I think he was just giving him a He was
giving you a same place that people like to go to, Philsburg.
What is it for vacation in California?
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Where is it? FROs Boots? The Padres don't go on
vacation till tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Look at that? I love it?
Speaker 4 (34:40):
There it is who's your vote. Let's let's do the poll.
Question is it should this guy start that guy start her?
A bullpen game? We'll let's go.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
We'll have more baseball coming up in a few minutes.
A huge night in Major League Baseball. We have a
deciding Game five between the Guardians and the Tigers. The
Yankees move on to the Alcs, but Robert Sala gets
fired as a Jets head coach. First head coach to
be fired this year.
Speaker 6 (35:02):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
This is not gonna be a year where it's gonna
be the weaker teams firing head coaches. This is a
big game type situation. And the next guy who's got
to look over his shoulder is Nick Sirianni. He was
asked about the solid situation today at his press congress.
He's listen, having a time. I feel bad for Robert.
He's a good coach. Haven't had time to think about this.
I'm just focused on what's next. Nick Siriani is the
(35:26):
next guy that is should be looking over his shoulder
because he could get fired mid season. This is an
Eagles team that is We've.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
Talked about it.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
They are one step away from absolute disaster at all times.
They have one foot on the banana peel. Wherever they go,
how fast they're running high, one foot's on that banana peel.
There's not a great energy around the team. You still
see questionable effort, you still see questionable decisions that are
made during games. Jalen Hurts last week saying, yeah, you know,
(35:58):
we have our moments.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
He and I.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
I know things are in.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows if things go bad. One thing
we know about the Eagles Jeffrey Lorie, Harry Roseman, like
this is their team, Like Sirianni, you're a guy, but
this is our team. They're not gonna let another year
go down the tubes like they watched the end of
last year suddenly just fritter away from They were the
best team in the NFL. Then they lost to the Jets.
Didn't get over it. You're ten and one and you
(36:22):
still go out meekly in the first round of the
playoffs because everybody was done and the energy around the
team was bad, and it felt like they were just
ready to get away from each other. That's not gonna
happen this year. If things are going bad Week nine,
Week ten, it's gonna be a new head coach there
in Philadelphia to try to save the rest of the season,
because the NFC East is not great, the NFC in
(36:42):
general doesn't seem like anybody's running away.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
The Niners are three and three, so.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
They're not going to sit back and say, ah, well, wait,
we'll give them the rest of the year. No, if
things are bad Week ten, they will replace Nick Sirianni,
especially if the Jets go on a run. Because if
the Jets, because this is kind of test balloon, now
here's the Jets of team with expectation firing their head
coach early in the season. If the Jets go on
to run with jeff Aulbrick and they start winning some
(37:08):
games and suddenly two and three turns into five and three,
six and three, six and four, something like that, oh
you know what, it can be done. Let's make the move.
Not that that would make not that that would be
the decision to say, hey, look it worked with the Jets,
will do it here. But if you have any question
and you think, hey, we could replace Nick Sirianni, boy,
I'm not sure. Hey, Jets did it and it worked. Okay,
(37:28):
we've seen it. We've seen it work. We want to
make that move. Let's be bold. With the season being
one extra game, you're talking about two extra weeks. Week ten,
it's still half the season and everything's still going to
be there. Nick Sirianni, watch out. He could be the
next guy fired, and it could be middle of the season.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Well, we'll go into the odds momentarily because well, another
guy who whose free fall kind of got overshadowed by
what happened in Philadelphia with some Philadelphia ties. Of course,
we'll get to him in a minute. Bryce Harper, h no,
look at you next say you're firing guys. Thompson, Sorry
too soon, you got chesty? Rob Thompson went back to
(38:06):
match box.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
I'm not. I'm just a little unwell, all right. So
you got the Browns this week.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
And the biggest thing I think when we take the
thirty thousand foot view of the Eagles is they're getting
their receivers back. And they've been playing without aj Brown
for quite a while now. He was part of the problem.
He was a huge part of the problem a year ago,
at least from all reports. And you also get Smith back,
who's been unavailable for a chunk. So you get those
(38:36):
guys healthy, You've got Goddard, You've got Barkley, you got
all of that together with Jalen Hurts in theory, you're
in a spot to where you can go on a
little bit of a run here yourself. As you look
at you know, coming out of the bye week, you
got the Browns who were terrible, and even if your
defense hasn't been world beating, I mean, Deshaun Watson doesn't
want to play football anymore, is where we're at with that.
(38:58):
Then you're on the road at the Giants, the fucky Giants.
We'll see what they have on Sunday night. They get
to play back to back Sunday night football games because
they've got Cincinnati this week. And then you play the
Bengals the other side of that equation from the Week
six contest, and then you got the Jaguars. So you've
got an opportunity here against middling teams at best. I'm
(39:19):
gonna be kind to the Bengals because Carl I keep
wanting to call him Carson Palmer. Joe Burrow is still
putting up points and getting it done. That's what happens
when you sort some old football cards. Doug Peterson's the
leader in the clubhouse. Right now plus one twenty five
is the next guy. Sirianni's right behind him at four
to one, Trust, followed by Stefanski, Ben Dennis Allen, and
(39:41):
then at ten to one Mike McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Even, you know what, even Jerry Jones won't do that.
It will be I'm gonna wait and I'm going to
bring in the new guy next year. That's one thing
we see. He'll wait and then he'll do it. But
it's not gonna be. Hey, I got the new guy
coming in now. It's continuity.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
That's that's not I would say this though, if they'd
lost that game to Pittsburgh, that might have that might
have been at least the seed heating up a bit.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Exit. How about a Fresco exit?
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Swollen dumb The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, Nick Sirianni, Watch out, Eagles are struggling mid season.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
That's gonna be the big move. That's what it is.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
Speaking of big moves, we got two huge stories out
of Major League Baseball in the playoffs coming up next.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike. You are listening
to Fox Sports Radio
