(00:49):
Right now, three and a half to go before halftime,
it is still all LA. It is an eighteen point
lead for the Lakers over Minnesota fifty three p. Thirty five.
Anthony Edwards hits a flow to this is the closest
Minnesota's been in a while.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
It's like it's eighteen But.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
For everybody who's worried about the death of the Lakers
and all, what's gonna happen to them? Luca dons Ha's
just made a pass on the previous possession that it's
gonna be the big viral highlight of the night. He
gets the ball on the wing, looks like he's gonna
take a three. He pulls it down. He tries to
make it like he's gonna stop and pull it back up.

(01:27):
McDaniels is on him, Jade, McDaniels is on him. Nothing
Luca is doing is working. It's a couple of pump fakes,
and Luca's not where okay, So Luca gets McDaniels in
the air a little bit, and then Luca drives around him,
but McDaniel's fast enough to stay with him.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Lucas stops and picks up.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
His dribble in the key, and it's like the entire
floor is just watching this, because this is about like
seven or eight seconds of just one on one and
Lucas stops and it looks like he's lost, and he
looks back out like he's gonna try to dish it
back out behind the arc, and Finny Smith is just
to the hoop, and without even looking, Luca just blazers

(02:03):
won to him for the dunk. If you had any doubt, well,
the Lakers may be dead all this stuff is happening,
or the Lakers locked in, Luca locked in. Yeah, all
you need is that play to tell you, Okay, slaying
the Lakers is going to be a little bit harder
than you think it's gonna be. He looks locked in.
The Lakers have looked blocked in. This is a different
team and from what they see so far. Sometimes game

(02:26):
one is an attention getter for the favorites, and you know,
a team comes in and steals Game one on the
home floor. Sometimes it's well, hey, the matchups don't work well,
and it's the Tea Wolves are a bad matchup for
the Lakers. But sometimes it's hey, we didn't come in
with nearly the intensity that we should have come in with.
And JJ Reddick talked about in his pregame press conference,
I was watching tape on games from the preseason or

(02:47):
from the regular season, which I know is not this season,
and we just they needed to tune themselves up and
turn up the intensity tonight. And that's all the Lakers
have been doing.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
It's a little bit sad when you come into the
first game of a playoff, much anticipated, you battled to
earn the number three seed, and you come out with
lackluster rotational defense. All right, It's one thing to be bored,
as you termed them a few weeks with a few
weeks remaining in the regular season, where there were a
couple of games where effort over forty eight minutes certainly

(03:19):
could be questioned. But to do that with closing out
three point shooters in game one repeatedly, and time and
time he had that guy's spotting up, he just licked
his finger to check which way the wind was blowing
before he got the shot off. That's how slow guys
were to rotate tonight. T Wolves two of ten from
three point range, thirteen of thirty four from the field,

(03:42):
randall six of ten.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
He's your bright spot for the offense. Yeah, not a
lot of bright spots so far. No, man.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
From a larger perspective, I mean, we've also seen it
get physical a couple of times. You had to have
ruy Ha Chamura took a blow to the face, had
to go back to the locker room. But you'll be
happy to know he's back with a mask.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I didn't know who I was until I wore the
mask Brewery hot tramore. So look out, he's gonna go
nuts this second half. This is me. I want to
tell you it's me right now. Have they thrown Nosrid
out yet?

Speaker 3 (04:11):
They have not thrown crunching body blows on picks time
and again.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
They have not thrown Nosrid out. They have not done
zo for two from the field. After what was he
six to nine from three point range?

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah, he had begin not a factor
offensively eight minutes played, He's minus twelve with zero points.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
One quick update from the world of baseball. We got
John Paul Morosi coming up in about fifteen minutes. The
Cubs have just walked off an eleven ten win over
the Dodgers. Came from behind to take the lead. The
Cubs had a home run to tide in the bottom
of the ninth, They win it in the tenth. Uh
With this result, the best record in Major League Baseball

(04:53):
belongs to your New York Mets at seventeen at seven
tie with the Butters. The Mets with that record in baseball.
I said I said it, Did I not say it?

Speaker 2 (05:07):
You credit you.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
More.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
You heard me say it. Best record in baseball. The
Mets tied with the Potters. Mets have the best record.
I said, what.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
About fans, we're dancing and saying that Padres are going
to be mad.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Listen, I didn't lie. I said exactly the truth. Best
record in baseball New York Mets tie with the Potters
is what it is.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Padres to nothing winners today at Detroit. So there you go.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, okay, they they didn't play as good a team
as the Mets did. So that's why the Mets have
their advantage.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
That gives you extra style.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Point.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Is that how we're doing this. That's the evaluation.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
He said, nothing wrong. Best record, The Mets have the
best record in baseball. Timee with the Buttters. Okay, everybody knows.
Everybody gets that.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
When's uh petere Alnso get his contract?

Speaker 1 (05:54):
I can't even one. So still, maybe won Soto gives
Pete some of his this year. Hey Pete, sorry, but
I'm gonna give you some my money this year being off.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
That was the one story I was really mad because
it was one Mets story that would have been really fun.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
To not gonna to be on air with you for
not gonna. I'm not gonna lie, but that's okay. He's
not guys crying.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
He's not hitting, so does not get the best and
now it's fine press.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Not the story where the summer rolls around and then
they suck.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Oh, which is dude, I'll see you in the NLCS again, man,
I'll see you in maybe if you I mean you
have a tough time at the cubs.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I mean, maybe I'll see you in the NLCS again. Cubs. Yeah,
maybe make it that far.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Meanwhile, something from today, from the world in general, really,
I mean, look, the biggest story the last twenty four
is obviously the death of Pope Francis at.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
The age of eighty eight.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
That he was in ill health over the course of
the past few weeks and but did wake up pretty well.
Uh you know when he when he you know, a
couple of days ago and he was feeling okay, but
then condition took a bad turn and he passed away,
Uh yesterday.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
And I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I want to say twelve people, now, twelve people have
sent me what you and Frostburg sent me earlier today.
I mean, now it's people, people at how first people?

Speaker 3 (07:10):
You absolutely were first, Yet I think you also tag
yours as first. You were absolutely first, Yes, but not
like people that again, this is like people R I
on't here from like maybe I hear from them twice
a year.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Hey how are you doing?

Speaker 5 (07:22):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Things are good people who I didn't have my phone anymore? Like, Oh,
I don't know who sent me to delete. I don't
know who. This isn't not on my phone anymore? You've
killed them off your phone. Well, usually every couple of years,
I go through my phone and I go, if I
haven't talked to you in a couple of years, I'm
not going to save this contact, so I delete the contact.
Sometimes I delete the wrong one and Pam goes, Hey,
how come Wade's wife.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Isn't in my phone? Oh dude, Uh, I don't know.
Probably iCloud storage figure it out. I don't know. But
did you want me talking to Wade's wife? Huh? I
do I do. That's what I would have done.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
I talked to Wade and his wife all the time.
So I'm just saying that's your reason. I just want
to be talking Wade's wife. I was trying to come
up with somebody that's actually in my phone that I
talked to, and not somebody that could actually be out
of the phone. Someone could hear it someone else's wife. Hey,
y yes, I talked to everybody's wife. I talked to
a lot of wives on the air, a lot a
lot of wives.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
But Frostburg sends me this.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
In football, baseball, basketball, NFL, MLB, NBA, only one team,
ninety two, lots of teams. One out of ninety two
didn't make it to the playoffs during the entire reign
of Pope Francis as pope. Only one team, one team

(08:41):
and all of And I'll tell you the reason wanted.
There's only one reason why. There's only one reason why.
But let's give you the team first, and you figure out.
One team did not make the playoffs during the entire
run of Pope Francis. And when I said that to
my wife, she said to me, even the white side, hey, hey, hey,

(09:02):
And I said, you know what, I'm eliminating her from
any contact list I may have. I said, they actually
made it a couple of years in a row, like
they made it dur in the COVID year you made
the playoffs. Simply does a break you won the MVP?
Was that seems like it was so long ago? Does
even the save the pot Yeah, yeah, yeah, she said
to me. Well in the lines the last couple is
yes the Lions, Yes, yes, yes. The only team in

(09:23):
all three of the big major sports to not make
the playoffs during the entire reign of Pope Conclave Pope Francis,
Pope Francis, Pope Francis, Pope Francis the movie Conclave, New
Pope disappointing, ending, phenomenal first one hundred and twenty minutes
of the movie, disappointing, last fifteen.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Minutes timing of Hey, it's now going to be available
on another streaming service. Yeah, that ad going up because
kind of odd.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
They're really were they're really taking that that that Conclave
the emotional s to the next level here, okay, no
question about Okay, we're gonna hey, watch Conclave.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Here's out, Here's how it happened. Watch it with Ray
Fines and watch it for real.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Conclave the movie Conclave nominated for an Oscar Conclave, the
the the the end of the reign of Pope Francis,
and only the Jets did not make the playoffs during
the entire reign.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Of Is this a Jets fault?

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Well, of course it's it. Why why what what what Carl? No,
not that, No, the Jet No that No, Pope.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Three run jd Vance visited him last week a few
days ago.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
That you know that.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Okay, so the Jets were not Jets were not in
contact with Pope protectives to use this one.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
He's just talking about science. No, it's not signed. No,
Jets did not have anything to do it. No. No, no.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
By the way, make sure you print that out and
have that available so you can ask questions in that
photo op on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
The Jets have enough problems. Hey, Joe Douglass. You know, boy,
remember Francis? Yeah, that was you could make the playoffs
during his and I realized you just came in for
the last five years. So but he completely different from you.
That was terrible before that. I mean, I don't know
what to say.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
It's a hell of a run, though, it's what do
you mean, hell, oh you mean Paul Francis.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Well yeah, oh, Paul France has had a hell of
a run well and now absolutely run.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
But also the streak without going to the playoffs. I mean,
that's almost like you're trying.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Now a new Pope, especially new because I mean, you.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Know, I've been told all along that the division was
such garbage.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
There's only four. If you could have climbed up.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
With math, you should win. You have a twenty five
percent chance to win it every year. And then there's
the wild pan.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
It's waited, but now that you had the wild card.
But it goes back to what I've been trying to
argue all along. Right, we're going to the eighteenth game.
Division games. There's gotta be more division games. It can't
be a third of your season. If we're gonna say
divisions had this much meaning and and such a thrust
into the the end of a season.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
You know.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
And the thing is right away when my wife says
not the white Socks, I go, we've been together for
thirty years.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
The Jets made the playoffs in Zoe's lifetime. I mean,
because when's the last time. Come on, man, they can't
made the playoffs?

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Just oh yeah, yeah, yeah, No, you're right, No he
did Sam thinking about my team? No, Well, because she
knows how bad the White Sox are. She knows really
how bad they are. So uh that that's been the thing.
She knows how bad they are. It's like even the
whites deers, even the white shot I've got that over you.
So that does that cause angst? Uh No, no, no, no, no, no,

(12:29):
it's okay. I mean look, I mean twenty twenty was
a good year for you. In the playoffs we had,
you won, the MVP, made the playoffs, he made the
players in twenty one, right, yeah, and then more and
then it's really just falling a part.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Have a couple of playoffs.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
No, it was bandages and and a little bit of
luck and everything went your way and then just like that,
the bottom dropped out.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yeah, well, the bottom's dropped off. We've had no bottom.
We just we just have nothing. It's just been like
driftwood floating in the ocean for years. Where's it gonna
end up? Drink and dreno doesn't matter clean Yeah, hello inside.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Boy.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
But being a jet fan, how comparable is it to
drinking drainer? Let's see, don't drink drainer? Nobody, yes, don't.
No challenges, no anything, I'm being serious, don't do any
of that.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
You know. The ice bucket challenges back, it's back.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Yeah's only and her friends did it over the last
couple of days. Ice bucket challenge that fortunately it was
warm good. Well, you know, you know, but I'm just.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Saying they it's like this hits the East coast. You
really want to do that? Right now? You could?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
You could put the ice in warm water. I mean
you could do that. It's no longer ice water. Now
you're a fraud.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Well wow, it's still ice.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Ice bucket, ice buckets, A bucket with ice in it.
You don't want to do how about I want to
just put ice in a bucket and dump it over you.
No water, no nothing. I want to throw it at you.
Have just to have it all hitting you.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
You know what? He and people will say, are you cupping?

Speaker 5 (13:54):
No?

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Jason smithing me in the face with a bunch of ice? Good?
He was probably a legitimate reason.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yeah, probably if we revisited the story of the licorice
whip I got at a police picnic years ago, and
now you're gonna pelt me with ice.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
It's fine.

on the hotline. He is on Twitter at John Morosi.
See you on MLB Network, especially when he does his
weekly hit with Lauren Shahati where his the top of

(17:59):
his body looks so big. It is John Palmerosi, John Paul,
what's happening man, Good evening.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
That was an all time introduction, But you neglected to
say that, you know what, Morossi might have been right
when he said the Pistons would find a way to
beat the Knicks because we feel pretty good in Michigan
right now. Somehow, Now I got I got to have
you explain this to me. Jason Beasley and Hardaway combined

(18:29):
for two points in Game two, and somehow the Pistons
found a way to win at the Garden? Jason Smith,
how did that happen?

Speaker 1 (18:38):
Here's how I explained this. Here's how I explain this,
because it's pretty easy. The Mets have the best record
in baseball. That's how I explained.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
And so so as Basically, my understanding is the only
reason why I am on the show tonight is because
new Pistons icon Dennis Shrewder was not available. He is
basically you served Vinnie Johnson as Michigan's favorite purveyor of late, late, second,

(19:09):
late fourth quarter clutch shots. We're still early on in
the series, Jason, Yeah, a lot of basketball is still
left to be played, and the Mets do. Indeed, sources
say they have a better record than the Dodgers, and
that is something that is all the more true after
that wild walk off win for the Cubs at Rickley
this evening.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Well, and I will tell you this, John Paul, you
are the ninth person today from the state or the
last twenty four hours, from the state of Michigan to
trash talk me about the Pistons and the next because
my wife's entire family has been busy doing that the
last twenty four hours.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
Well, I know this well, and of course, as you
also know, the Pistons have not done a whole lot
of winning of series since Rashid Wallace inexplicably left Robert
or open for a three pointer late in the two
thousand five NBA Finals. Not that we still think about
that in Michigan, not that we still think about that,

(20:05):
but very very little, very little good has happened to
the fist and since then. But they are now back
in the conversation, as are the Mets, as are the Cubbies,
and this is really a great time here for sports.
I am I am loving it as both a broadcaster
and a fan.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
So as we look at the first couple of weeks
in the books, obviously Smith's all excited, Mets tied with
the Padres for the best record in baseball, Wan Sotos
still not hitting, as he's so often telling me, what's
your biggest surprise.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Question? I think the couple of things. The struggles of
the Braves are really surprising me. I think on the
on the negative side, and I certainly understand all the
back and forth now about Jared Kalnick and Romin Lukunya Junior.
It really it takes it takes a special skill to
become the dominant Baden baseball when you're not even on

(21:01):
the active roster. But that that seems to have occurred
with a coupon you in the last couple of days.
So I think the struggles of the Braves are are
probably the most surprising thing I've seen. I did not
think that Dodgers would have as much competition and company
atop the NL West as they have right now with
the Padres and the Giants. The Padres tonight, Nick Pavetta,

(21:24):
for me, he's on his way to an All Star appearance,
a one point two oere even after signing late. Usually
that's not a beat. That's usually a indication that the
pitcher's going to get up to a slow start. But
you've got a credit Pavetta first preparation, coming in and
being really good very early on. And so I think
that the way the Cubs have played it has certainly
impressed me. They're they're leading the NL Central. Tonight Amaya

(21:46):
was a was a key hero for them. They get
Kyle Tucker in the deal with Houston's. I like the
way the Cubs have played, and I think that the
AL East being pretty winnable. It appears is also bit
of a surprise that the Orioles. I did not expect
to be as bad as they've been. They they and
the thing about the Orioles two guys is I just

(22:08):
don't know how quick that they can fix this. A
lot of their pitching is either looking overwhelmed or is
just frankly injured. And I don't know how quickly Michaelias
and Brandon Hyde can correct the reasons why the Orioles
right now are struggling so much.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
You know, you mentioned the AL East, John Paul and
the Yankees lead the AL East right now at fourteen
and ten.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
If you didn't know the scores.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Of the games, and all you did was read about
the Yankees online right whether it's the New York Post,
you know, I'm up with every day. If you didn't
know the scores, you would think, oh, the Yankees are
what what two and twenty one like? If they even
want to have more wins in the Rockies right now.
But the Yankees, despite the fact that they're not clicking,
they have a lot of issues, they're still in first
place in the AL East.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Yeah, that's a good point. And obviously when you look
at the big picture, they've gotten zero starts from Garrett
Cole and and and Luis held at this point in
the season, Devin Williams has struggled in the ninth inning.
I think that's that is the story. It's certainly it
is a correctable story, and I believe. I believe Devin
will correct it. But that's a concern. Aaron Judge has

(23:18):
been just otherworldly, and I think that's that's the key
part of the story here, is just how great he
continues to be and he is now I think when
Aaron Judge and you're looking at the way that he
is elevating this this franchise, even amid all the injuries
and not having Guan Soto, obviously he is now moving

(23:39):
into the inner circle of the greatest Yankees ever. Just
and I know that there is this instinct with the
Yankees to always defer to the to the players who
were who were on television screens in black and white,
but he obviously has He's already hit more home runs
in a single season than anybody in that uniform, including Ruth,

(24:01):
Gerig Demaggio, Mantil everybody. And and so that's part A.
But then look at the consistency year after year. I
just think that the way that he leads, the way
that he sets the tone on and off the field,
is really extraordinary. Even when he's been getting these these
odd questions about Toto, still where that that story won't
go away.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
He's not going to go fifteen more years, John Paul
fit that story's not going away for fifteen years.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
That's right, Jason. And and something tells me that when
when the Mets and Yankees played for the first time
in the Bronx, it'll be it might be brought up
by a couple couple of tribes in New York as
as the season is unfolding. But I just think Aaron,
I think the world of him and the way that
he's handling things. I think is the biggest reason why
that their record is running quite counter to the narrative

(24:49):
that you've read in the in the media there.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
Well, and that's the curiosity going for how much do
we expect you know, Stanton's starting to ramp up a
little bit with batting practice, but his is that something
that we expect a longer lead with him coming back
so they don't potentially lose them all together.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Well, Mike, it's a really good point. And the other
piece of that is is that to this point, and
I realized he's missed some time with injury, but ben
Rice has been, aside from Judge, one of their most
important bats. And I just cannot and I know we've
talked about it. Tom Berducci has mentioned this on our
network as well. It's going to be interesting to see
what Rice's role is once Stanton comes back and how

(25:31):
they're able to make it all work. And Aaron Boom
has done a really good job of balancing everybody's playing time.
But when you consider how important Rice has been in
the lineup, and also the success they've had in batting
gold Schmid leadoff, which was really on nobody's being go
card to begin the year. But Paul's a really good
base runner and he gets on bass and it gives
you an excellent at bat, and so in some ways

(25:53):
he's a you can look past the fact that he's
not Ricky Henderson on the bass pass, but he's a
good base runner and he's a and he gives you
a solid that bat. So but again, he's another guy
who's who's a corner type bat that will impact, perhaps
on some level, the workload that Stan's gonna have. So
for me, Mike, I would be very very careful, very

(26:15):
cautious with Stanton because honestly, once he's active, I don't
know what that's gonna mean for the complexity of the lineup.
When you consider how much Ben Rice has earned his
spot on this team.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
John Paul, When do you start your NHL coverage? When
do you start your playoff stuff?

Speaker 4 (26:33):
It's good question I as at this moment in time,
I am strictly planning on doing my MLB Network showcase
games every week. However, however, whenever I am in a
situation where I can sneak over and get to a game,
I will do that. I was actually at an OHL
game over the weekend. I've got some features still coming

(26:54):
up for the Under eighteen World Championship, so I still
got some hockey stuff going. But the bulk of my
travel right now, my friends, is all focused at the
Diamond and uh, and that'll be the case. I've got
and and by the way.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Well and the Pistons and the and the Pistons, right,
the Diamond and the.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Pistons and the Pistons. Trust me, I'm working on the Pistons. Uh.
We're trying to find a way for me to be
able to call in live from from MSG at some
point next week, which would be a lot of fun.
So I'm gonna work on that. But the other piece
of it is talking about baseball. Next week. I've got
the Mets at City Field on on MLB network. So
I will be personally, I'm gonna I'm gonna reach out

(27:31):
to David and see if we could do a Sternsey
in the Pope Show. Uh maybe you know, maybe pre
game sometime at Cityfield.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
All right, now, good, I'm glad because you know I
don't I don't cash in this chip very often. But
you told me last year, you and David Sterns roommates
in college. It's a great story, and you said, hey,
once in a while, I will pass along a note too.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Have you passed along a note to the Tigers from
your dad a lot?

Speaker 1 (27:53):
And so you said, hey, if you got something you know,
and you have something, let me know and I'll pass
along to David Stearns. So I have a note for
you to pass along to david'ston you got it. The
longer he waits, the more money it's gonna be to
give a so to come back, it's just gonna get
more and more expensive.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
John Paul his lbs is almost one and a half.

Speaker 4 (28:16):
And by the way, and it seems it seems to me,
you know, correct me if I'm wrong, but that there
there there was a comment I believe from Juan Soto
saying that it does matter who's batting behind him, and
that is that is a thing. And so you know,
you want to keep one Soto happy, probably keep pid
Alonzo around and and uh, I think it's a point

(28:38):
well taken. If it's not Peter Alonzo, who's it gonna be?
It better be somebody else could. And I don't think
the Yankees are going to trade Aaron Judge to the Mets.
There's about as much of a chance of Jason Smith
or John Morossi batting behind Wan Sota as there is
there in Judge right now. So uh, I think we
we've gotta, we've gotta, uh maybe have a little bit
of a real conversation there with David about his options

(29:00):
right now for the best plane up.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
No, I can see that happening. And there's John Paul
Morosi still wearing his suit and dress shoes with a
bat in his hand. He's gonna hit behind Sodo.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
Oh my, he's got the bonds ready for his plant appearance.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
That was almost scullyesque. And look who's covering the back.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
He's on Twitter on John Morosi. Pope is always buddy appreciative,
manple talk to you next week. I have a great one.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Love the conversation. Guys, thanks for everything, and they look
forward to next week.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
He'll get that note to David Stearns. There's no question
about it's just going to be more expensive. Man, he
is on a mission right now here.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I thought you were going to try to get a
box of commemorative merch. Oh, no, giveaways. This is a
big opportunity to be mister met No, I could playoff game.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
I could get that from I could get that from
a No. No, this, I get this. I got a
cash in man. This is like, this is a year now.
We have expectations.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Now.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
The best record in baseball with Padres, I mean that
that's a big thing now for us. Better record than
the Dodgers' best record in baseball with the Padres. It's
a big thing.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Man. We got we got, we got all kinds of stuff.
It's great, though.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
You got balance in the forest because everything is going
wrong for the Knicks.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yeah, and you got the mess I got. It's good.
It's okay.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
And then the Jets haven't screwed up. Twenty twenty five,
let's just wait. The draft is Thursday night. Let's just away.
We'll be on air talking all about it.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
Let's go time out to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports. From a man who's been
called the Jan Soto of Fox Sports Radio, he cares deeply.
Who's doing updates after him? It's Steve to say, and
he just truck out again.

Speaker 6 (30:33):
You know who's doing updates after me me?

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Are you? That'd be Won Soto? You know who shit
it after me?

Speaker 5 (30:41):
Me?

Speaker 2 (30:41):
But I can't hit twice, so somebody else has to
do it. We've now entered multiplicity.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
Well someone said it, but the Mets have won six
in a row, and there's seventeen and seven this year.
They meet Philadelphia five to one. It was a two
to one lead in the seven Francisco Lindor with three.
It's the wind of Griffin Canning. And yes, the Padres
won again seventeen and evan After the two nothing victory
at Detroit, Nick Pavetta seven strong innings, beating Jack flaher To,
who had nine strikeouts in his six frames. But Robert Suarez,

(31:09):
the Padres closer, has ten saves already. He has not
been scored upon eleven scoreless innings and just three hits allowed,
so far, he's just.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Lucky he pitches on in the ninth inning when the
other team doesn't score runs. He's just lucky. You are
accurate until.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
She's in the ninth and the other team does not score.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
I mean, if you would pick a day where the
other team would score runs, he wouldn't be as good.

Speaker 6 (31:30):
You know, we thought Cleveland had a good closer, and
that doesn't add in all the closers. Cleveland, nonetheless, has
won five games in a row, beat the Yankees tonight
three to two. Aaron Judge in the loss four for
four at the plate, he's batting over four hundred, but
the rest of his team was two for twenty seven.
At Miami four to three, Marlins over Cincinnati, attendance under

(31:50):
eight thousand. Again, Washington shut up Baltimore's seven to nothing
losing pitcher Dean Kramer with an ERA up to six
point eighty four, and the Orioles offense went one for
twenty eight. Tonight at Boston, three RBIs for Alex Bregman,
Red Sox beats Seattle eight to three, Cubs over the
Dodgers eleven ten in ten innings. Saint Louis came back

(32:11):
for a win ten to Ford Atlanta that ends the
Cardinals five game losing streak. Kansas City in eleven beat
Colorado four to three, Minnesota four to two over the
White Sox center fielder Byron Buxton a diving catch to
end the game. Houston a five to one winner against Toronto,
beating Chris Bassett. As for the NBA playoffs, the Lakers
are still leading at home approaching mid third quarter in LA,

(32:33):
Lakers sixty two to fifty one over Minnesota, which from
three point range is three of fifteen so far. Lukadancic
twenty two points in twenty five minutes on the court.
Earlier wins for Oklahoma City and Indiana, they're each up
two games to none. Boston's Jason Tatum is doubtful for
Wednesday with a bruce wrist because of a hard landing
after an opponent's flagrant foul last game. The NBA sixth

(32:56):
Man of the Year is Boston's Peyton Pritchard Detroit's Malik Beasley.
His second Anthony Edwards, was fined fifty thousand dollars for
his language and gesture toward a fan in LA Saturday
to the NHL.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
Safety, what did you say? I believe it was personal.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
Okay, okay, It's like it's like when Vin Scully would say,
he said, oh, how about you come over.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
And see some fertilizer.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
You have fertilizer on your law and I have fertilizer
on mine. Oh, you're telling me about fertilizer. I'll tell
you go to the store and buy some fertilizer.

Speaker 3 (33:29):
I want the most pay for a dramatic reenactment like
on a cameo situation by Steve For what Edwards had.

Speaker 6 (33:35):
To say, I'm just clad Vincekelley's past and didn't have
to see.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
What went on early fertilizer.

Speaker 6 (33:40):
Minnesota wild out to a two nine in lead at Vegas,
already in the first period of their playoff game. Carolina
up two games to none after beating New Jersey Toronto
up two games to none after beating Ottawa. Florida opened
its best of seven with a six two win at
Tampa Bay. New York Islanders presidents and general manager Lou
Lamarello will not return after seven seasons there. He is

(34:02):
eighty two.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (34:04):

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Steve Steve is at the Lakers game.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
Steve Nava Chi Chi Chia, Chicken, Chicken Jockey.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
The Lakers all over the Timberwolves right now. It's been
the Lakers, uh running this since the beginning of the game.
They came out on fire. The Wolves cut it to
thirteen at one point, but it is a seventeen.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Point Laker lead right now midway through the third quarter.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
And of all the stars of the game tonight, maybe
none bigger than Jack Black, who has had an incredible
career in Hollywood.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
You know School of Rock. No, he's Steve like, it's
get hit. The first line of Panda series, first.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Line of his Wikipedia page is going to be Jack
black Star of Minecraft. You can even hear Lava Chicken
as a song on the radio. Now, yeah, they even
played I heard it on the radio. I'm like, oh
my goodness, he shouted. He's just taking pictures with random
fans during time out to this game Heavy.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
He did a movie that is absolutely terrible.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
But it's hear to what billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
It's the horror picture show of gen Z and it's
what he's going to be known for.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
Everything comes down to that. How quickly can they get
a sequel out?

Speaker 5 (37:07):
Like?

Speaker 2 (37:07):
Literally, how quickly did they get he and Momoa in
front of a green screen. Here's the thing to do this,
I can already do this.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
You got whatever footage you didn't use in this movie,
you could probably stitch together to make a part two
of and it wouldn't matter. It would do the same
business as if you wrote a script shot it. You
got everybody off the kool Aid movie from the studio
and got him onto here, you would make just as
much money and all yet you already have stuff already shot.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
You know, it's funny you always make fun of me,
like the because I'll go to the international numbers on
action movies and horror movies.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
You're like a side right, Hey, look we paid the
worldwide what you made thirteen million dollars in the United States.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
That's awful.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
But did the money exchange hands? Did we actually collect
whatever the currency is. If the answer is yes, then yes,
it counts for us. Here's a situation where you've got
nearly three quarters of a billion dollars to this point,
which why Jack Black's going to be seen everywhere because
he needs that to go, you know, keep that spinning
and get that extra comment. Sure is the it's almost

(38:11):
split evenly between domestic and international.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Yeah, three hundred.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
And seventy four international, three point fifty plus domestic.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
It's a phenomenon that defies reason, that defies logic.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
People fighting, they're going in groups to McDonald's to get
happy meals, hoping to pull.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
It's fifteen to fifteen. They're fifteen dollars my craft meal.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
It's crazy, but everybody trying to get the grimace, and
then they all celebrate when they get the grimace and
start throwing fries at each other. Yea, so people at
the local establishment.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
Not too happy. A lot of potatoes died for nothing.
Exit oub bout a Fresca exitswalling Dome again. We'll have
more on the Lakers and the te Wolves coming up
in a bit, but it has been all Lakers. Now
here's the thing. Yeah, there is somebody who needs my
public relations advice in the NBA more than anybody. And
this is pretty easy. No, Jalen Brunson's fine, Just stop, dude, stop.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Is it shack to take the emodium before the show?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
Julius Randall, Shack, make sure you time that pre show
coffee a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (39:17):
No.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
The person needs my advice, and it's very simple advice.
Is Nico Harrison. No, stop, it's not the next We're
one one. It's fine, we have two days off. Nico Harrison,
who continues to open mouth and insert foot. He's getting
the entire heel of his foot in his mouth. Now
you know why Nico Harrison doesn't talk, because when he talks,
he makes everything worse. Right, Like, I want to give

(39:40):
the guy credit and say, hey, listen, it's not all
what Nico did. This is not a Nico Harrison thing.
You had the ownership on board, they didn't want to
pay Luca doncics.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
But no.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Then he goes and he says stupid stuff like I'm
doubling down on the ridiculous defense wins titles, which makes
no sense. Okay, And then yesterday with his I didn't
realize Luca's impact on the fans. Come on, man, that's
what you get paid for. This is where if if
you took a guy, the kid that won a contest
like in the movie Eddie, and made him the GM

(40:09):
of the team, and he says, oh, I didn't realize
Luca's popularity with the fan base. I would understand. You're
the bleep in general manager. Man, What the hell is
wrong with you? My advice to Luca, to Luca, my
advice to Nico Harris is, dude, you're not gonna win.
The season's over. Okay, it's over, and you're just gonna
have to take it for a while. You're the face

(40:30):
of this trade. The Adelson's cut you loose, so did
the dumont They all cut you loose. But you're the
face of this trade. You're not winning anybody over. It's
not happening. So you know what, don't do any interviews.
Just stay quiet instead. No one cares what you have
to say. We're into the playoffs now it's all about
Luca and teams that are playing and all the big stars.
No one cares. Right we'll talk to you more when

(40:51):
we get to the offseason, but right now, don't talk.
It's not gonna help. And let's hear you again. When
you are doing things to make the team better, that's
the only thing that going to win this. Your direction
is if you bring in another star to go along
with Ad and Kyrie Hearing, who will come back at
some point next year, then you can win people back
to your side. But you're not good at speaking as

(41:12):
saying things, so don't do it. Okay, you make things
worse every single time you open your mouth, so be quiet.
To go out of the spotlight. No one cares. Don't
say anything until we get the free agent.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
Now.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
The best thing he had to say was there was
some snippet of a relationship blog that he was part
of talking about what it takes to have a winning
relationship and being a great example there that he actually
spoke pretty well at anything related to his job. Fail fail.
Just nod your head and take where I mean. Someone
asked him, point Blake, should you be fired? That's how bad.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
It is at this point.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
And with that, with every subsequent answers like come on, man,
really I get it. You don't get the Hey, here's
five things you're likely to be asked because it really
can be about anything. Uh, you know, like coming out
of a game. All right, here's three things that are
probably gonna be pinpointed that went on based on what

(42:07):
we saw on social media and whatever. Here you know
exactly what you're gonna be asked about. You're gonna be
asked about Luka doncics in every possible permutation, and what
it meant to the organization where you're at, how much
money you're losing. All this. Then you start getting all
the extra details of behind the scenes, how insecure he was,
about anybody that had any juice in the locker room

(42:28):
from the upheaval and the training staff and all of
that stuff that starts to flow out. It's like, come on, man,
you're you're paid to to be a front facing member
of this staff, and every answer just made you sound
like you're rolling a twenty sided dungeons and dragons die.

Speaker 2 (42:48):
To make a decision. You're not you can't win. What's eighteen?
Say so? What if I'd out? In wargames?

Speaker 1 (42:54):
The only way to win is not to play, just
to just go away, say nothing. Go on Ayahuasca Aaron
Rody's Darkness Retreat. That's where you gotta go. Coming up next,
we get into what is easily the most bizarre story.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Of the week in sports. It's not even close. Fox
