Speaker 3 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside our two, The Jason Smith Show with
my bess.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tirack dot Com studios,
tirac dot com.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'll hope you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Tirack dot com. The way tire buying should be halftime
right now, and it was all Denver. The Nuggets lead
the Timberwolves right now, fifty six to forty one. Jamal
Murray bood every single time he touched the basketball in
the first half. That was pretty brilliant. Yeah, it was.
It was, doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
He has eighteen eight out of thirteen from the floor.
A twelve and three first half from Nikola Jokic the
Nuggets shooting fifty three percent from the floor. It has
not been a great first half from Minnesota. They have
a lot of work to do edwards, just with nine
this is the Denver Nuggets team I think we all
expected in this series. I'm just really surprised that here

(01:30):
we are, Game three, that this wasn't a game where
the Nuggets had to overcome the Timberwolves in the first half.
Because this is one of those games where we're up
to zip, we're feeling great. This should be where the
Nuggets say, hey, we can win this game. We got
to withstand them early, and there was nowithstanding early. It
was Denver dictating the style of play. And now that's

(01:52):
the bit. Now, I'm not surprised the Nuggets are playing well,
they're winning the game, but the fact that this was, hey,
we didn't have to come from behind from fifteen to two,
or you know, it didn't start twenty to six. You know,
this was, oh, where we can put our stamp on
this game pretty early, and that kind of surprised me.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Well, Colt shooting come in thirty nine percent from the field,
six of twenty from three point range. We'll do it
to you. I mean just in terms of long we
go back to long rebounds, being out rebounded by seven
in the first half, some fast break points and opportunities
for the Nuggets, and Jamal Murray. Let's face it, the guy.

(02:29):
The guy brought it upon himself. But he's been the
scourge of the media world. It's it's basically been him
and Rick Carlisle owning the new cycle for forty eight hours.
So you knew he was gonna come out and try
to put his best foot forward at because he's been awful.
Like you could go back to that Lakers series, right, However, again,
going back to the injured hurt discussion, Oh he's really laboring. No,

(02:51):
he's just not hitting a shot. Okay, he's still playing
right now, his shot is broken. Except for the two
game winners. Going back to the last series and thus far,
the two games at home, he was awful in every way,
shape and form, including his childlike three year old temper
tantrum that should have gotten m suspended. Well, here he is,

(03:11):
and now he's going, well, I'm gonna shut everybody up
by playing. Well, Well, he answered the bell and it.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Gave you probably shouldn't be playing in right, I'm gonna
play well in the game. I shouldn't be playing in
it's bonus territory, right. Wow, So again we'll keep you
updated on this second half. Just underway, the team's trading buckets.
It's a fifty nine to forty three lead for the
Nugget's still a ton of time to left just over
eleven minutes ago in the third quarter. Now, we'll have
more NBA coming up. But how about a nice, big

(03:37):
fat NFL hot take. Oh please, as big as the
big fat sandwiches We're gonna get and I'm gonna drown
my sorrows and Jersey mics coming up in a few minutes.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Today. Congratulations to you, buddy, Congratulations to me. Yeah, because
the last time this happened it was kind of a punchline.
But here we are in the middle of May and
ESPN's Adam Schefter. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
With the big news today, the Chicago Bears have already
named Caleb Williams their starting quarterback for the twenty twenty
four season.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I mean that's good.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
One. Well, I mean, why why dance around it? I mean,
you sent the other guy to oblivion, QB one, he
sent him away to go battle. Russell Wilson and Nano bubbles.
So yeah, in mini camp today? How great was that?
All the greater? But look at there's his first compleasing
di roma Duneesay, how great is this gonna be? Hey
it's Minnie camp? How mad is Tyson Page? These kids

(04:33):
getting passed on. I didn't even get a chance to
fight time out. I got it.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yeah, QB one for the Bears is always going to
be Andy Dalton sister.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
We'll never add on this show that. Yeah, God, you'll
be well, yeah, that's one of the great that's one
of the great tweets ever. Uh but look, I'll give
you a big, a nice, big fat hot take for
the Bears. First of all, this is the right choice
because you don't have another option. You don't have another option.
There's certain teams where, yes, a guy can sit and
watch and that's probably best for him. And there's certain

(05:04):
teams where the guy's got to get into play. So
you built the whole thing right. Everything you did this offseason,
everything you did in the draft, was to elevate him
into the greatest opportunity a Bears quarterback has ever known
in terms of the surrounding component parts. So if you'd

(05:25):
gone with any type of charade and you lost all credibility.
It's not like it's finally the team was looking at
at the respectability in the front office of all these
guys are actually.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Working towards something that the team made some great moves
in the offseason, and it's not like you have another
guy where well, if this guy plays, maybe things a
little bit better. Like if you had a Gardner Minshew, right,
let's say it.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
And because who's gonna wind up battling out with Aidan
O'Connell even though o'conne's gonna enter camp as the number
one quarterback. We saw that news today. If you had
a Gardner Minshew, if you had a backup that succeeded
to an extent, and it would it would give Caleb
Williams a chance to learn that I would understand. But
there's nobody else. There's nobody else. And this is a
guy that you drafted number one overall and you drafted

(06:11):
him why because he is NFL ready to play? And
I got news for you. Forget about this whole.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Bet that Malik Neighbors and Jayden Daniels made and called
off about who was going to win you know they both, Oh,
there's something fun for that, because I think I know
the real reason why that bet was called off. But
I'm saying to myself, you guys are insane. Caleb Williams
is going to be the offensive rookie of the year
in a walk, and not only that, the Bears are
going to the playoffs. There's fine, you owe me because

(06:37):
I'm saying something really nice about your team. But this
is a Bears team. They're not quite the Lions of
a year ago. But you look at you look at
their weapons now, and and you're talking about they brought
in the running back you needed and DeAndre Swift because
clearly you had seven guys you played last year and
I think Neil Anderson was one of them, but they
weren't one of the top rushing teams when you add

(06:59):
just in fields.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Right, exactly exactly, But you know, Rashawn Johnson wasn't great,
and Khalil Herbert was okay but got hurt. No, you
brought in a guy that was terrific. As long as
he stays healthy, You're not going to over use him
because this game, this team is obviously going to be
built on the passing arm of Caleb Williams and.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Look at the guys he's got to throw to. Dj Moore,
Keenan Allen, Romo, Doonza, your boy, Cole Kmet. I mean,
this is this is an offense that is loaded. They
are loaded. This is not just hey, he's got a
couple of men.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
This is where, hey, we're plopping you in and we're
expecting a big season. If he throws for thirty touchdowns
this year, I am not surprised because this is gonna
be a Bears offense unlike anything you've seen where suddenly
they're throwing the football all the time and they're throwing
it with success, and we're only running the ball and
we have to. I mean even when they had Cutler,
they still ran the football a lot. This is gonna

(07:50):
be an eye opener. The Bears are ready. Nobody looks
at them because they say, well, the Bears are bad.
Last year they finished pretty well. They were seven and ten.
Right when it started out as poorly is in they're
zero to four and that really did them in. No,
they stuck with it, and this is a team that
has a lot of talent and the moves. In the
off season, you had two big wide receivers and you
had a number one running back and you draft your crowd.

(08:12):
This is this is a haul that's unforeseen and in
like the last fifteen years in the NFL, we're in
one off season. That's we had a franchise quarterback and
a superstar Pro Bowl wide receiver and one of the
top three wide receivers in college football and one of
the top eight running backs in all of the NFL.
Like that's unbelievable to add that in. They have all

(08:33):
kinds of time to gel. They're going to the playoffs
like this, this is a team that's gonna flip that
seven and ten to ten and seven and they're gonna
find a way. That's gonna be the toughest division in
the NFL this year the NFC North. Caleb Williams is
going to win Rookie of the Year. He throws thirty touchdowns.
I'm not surprised. This is going to be a great
season for the Bears. And you know, look, you know
I feel good, and you know you owe me to

(08:54):
say nice stuff about my teams now, but I'm telling
you the truth about your Bears. I owe you nothing,
and you've not jinxed me. Still one thing I hate
it about, you know, all the love fests that's come
from the the media off of this one. It's like,
can't they just live in silence a little bit? No,
because the expectations in Chicago are immense. You look at you.

(09:14):
You forgot Everett. You forgot that they'd already started building
the O line and what the defense looked like after
the trade with Washington last season down the stretch again,
I implore someone to tell me what happened to Alan Williams.
But once Eberflus became the de facto of d C
and went back fully to that side of the ball,

(09:35):
everything worked. Now you bring in Waldron as you're oc.
You saw the success that he's had in the past.
All of that to say, you've got weapons, Gerald Everett
added from the Chargers. You know a little bit of
concern for Keenan Allen, you know, age and playing on
that soldier field.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
But when you already have one of the best wide
receivers in DJA and one of the top two or
three receivers in Robaduce, you know.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
I'm just doing my best to make sure that we
we take all of it in as as we do
here because everybody loves Keenan Allen and I know our
guy de Sager and Justin Frostsberg, they're gonna miss him
quite quite a bit as they get ready for the
next iteration of Charger football. And it'll be awful weird
to see. And it already has been watching Keenan Allen

(10:21):
walking around with Bears sweatshirts and hats and stellar. But
once he's actually on the field, Yeah, to have a
guy that that you know sits can sit down in
a zone and keep moving the chains and talking about
taking the top off when you're looking at DJ Moore
and Dune's Yeah, I mean, it's it's exciting times. And
I just fear the hype machine is gonna be som

(10:44):
and the division is curious right Green Bay. Everybody's excited
about what the next level is for Jordan love what
we saw down the stretch changing out a bunch of
their component parts this offseason. For sure, Minnesota they pick
up Aaron Jones, it's your guy, Sam Darnold and whatever
JJ McCarthy is so and then Detroit until you go

(11:07):
and get them. I mean, at least on paper, you're
still rolling along with the roster. They have there, so
it's a climb in division. But yeah, are the expectations
there that you're finding your way into the playoffs? I say,
very sheepishly, yes, oh yeah, because I can't go full
full tilt, because otherwise by week six I'm gonna just
want to jump off a bridge. But I mean, but

(11:28):
that's the thing, that's what it is, because now it's
starting to get overweighted. You know what you're talking about
stocks and everybody, Ah, this company can't miss. That's usually
when you pull back and go, eh, I want the
big everybody's on board, a big camera of Jim Kramer.
I'm buying Caleb Williams and he's throwing bricks some money
out the window. I'm buying, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
That horn.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
And but look, there's a difference between a team that
drafts a quarterback high in the first round. Is okay,
we're kind of starting over. No, this is a hey,
we're loaded up. Man. All we needed was you. All
all we needed was you. And now we're here and
we're ready to go. And we got your wide receiver
you're gonna play with. Who's the one of the top
five wide receivers in the game right now? Another guy,

(12:09):
we expect to grow with you and be one of
the top five wide receivers in the game as his
career goes on. We're loaded, right, they have everything, they
know everything, they need. No, And that's the thing, because
this is where you're a Jets fan. You get this
when it actually goes on paper and you won a
lot of off seasons. Yeah, we had. On occasion we
won an off season. Yes, this one seems like you

(12:32):
should just crown them, which means yea, because that's kind
of Look, the Bears did what normally teams do for
a veteran quarterback in a win now mode, like okay,
the Jets are loading up to win now for Aaron Rodgers,
and the moves they have made are kind of.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Like that where the Bears have done it to say
we're loading up for our franchise quarterback who's twenty one
years old.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Like you, you don't see that. And I got people
don't understand how good Caleb Williams is, how wide the
gap was between Williams and Jaden Daniels. I get the
people want to hate him because he paints his fingernails
and he cried with his mom. I mean, just look
at the tape and look at what he's able to do.
And I understand that that that can be polarizing. Oh
he's a guy can't cry with his mom after the

(13:13):
guy can't paint it. Yeah, I get it. He's a
new style of quarterback. Man. You just got to get
used to it. This is what this is what it is.
Did you buy a brick outside the coliseum like they're
selling to put your tribute to Caleb Williams on there? What? No,
I didn't buy a brick. That's you buy it a brick?
Oh my sweet brick, Oh my sweet brick. Oh brick. Mike,
what was the over under in Vegas for the Bears wins?

(13:35):
I think it's sitting at eight and a half.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Well, it's gonna be three after Smith saying they're going
to do.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Now, it's going to go to a twelve. To Mike,
that's what he's.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
I didn't do anything to Mike. This is how good
the Bears are. I'm telling you, fraud, this is how
good the Bears are going to be. You don't think
it pains me to say this after all the times
he just disagrees with me about my team's just because.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
No, no, no, it's a brilliant analysis that it's countered
on your Okay, you know what, mister smart guy.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Listen, we'll get back into the NBA playoffs coming up next.
I'll tell you number one, Number one my big fear
after tonight's game between the Knicks and the Paces.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
And two, why I know you just do it just because?
Why do you go opposite me?

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Just because I have a perfect example for it and
we're going to prove it next.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Well, didn't help get my name in any of the
message that came out here. I'm not going to be sick.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
He was right.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
I'm not going to be too upset because you are
buying sandwiches. Buy a sandwich, I won't get to up. Well,
just think me when it actually gets here.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
It's coming up next, right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
Get to at least eight to nine inches. It's gonna
be good.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
We're live from the tirerack dot Com studios. Just under
five minutes ago. In the third quarter, Despite the fact
that it's a ten point quarter for Anthony Edwards, it
is still all Denver. They lead Minnesota seventy seven fifty nine,
trying to get back into this series. Edwards has had
a big third quarter, but still you are watching the
Nuggets control this game, and they've controlled it pretty much

(15:49):
from the midway point of the first quarter. You gotta
think a Minnesota run is coming at some point, but
you know, still not in the third quarter, and it's
gonna be too much to try to do this thing
all in the fourth. You got to see something from
Minnesota in the next four and a half minutes to
make this a ten point game. You may like Dway
defense for you gotta see something.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
You know they have the finish at the rim and
play some defense. You know, Denver's getting out. Denver's playing
really well. They're being very decisive. They're not allowing Minnesota
to set up defensively, They're they're getting quick shots off.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
They're moving the ball pretty well. But this is something
where Okay, you expect to see a run, but you
know you're down sixteen eighteen going to the fourth quarter.
We're gonna get a run, but you're not gonna get close.
You need to get this like this next four and
a half minutes. You got to get this down to ten.
You're at home. The crowd is now sitting on their hands.
So even you know, the lusty booze of Jamal Murray

(16:43):
don't matter, pends no other they're kind of all booze,
are lusty, They're all they were lustily booed Noah. But defensively,
Jokich is now working on the low block. Murray's being
able to distribute the ball easier. Maan, It's all flowing
right now.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
I mean they're at seventy nine points with four minutes
left in the third defensively, just a shoddy effort from
Minnesota here. So we'll have more on this coming up again.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
A lot of time left, Bud, Minnesota's got to get
this going here in the next four minutes. So the
Knicks lose to the Pacers tonight thanks to Andrew Nemhard's
miracle thirty footer with fifteen seconds left that somehow goes
in when the guy wanted no part of a shot,
you know, And that's what that's the one thing that
pissed me.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
It really does the same day it's you since it
is because he wanted no part of the shot. He
wanted no.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
The Knicks defense did exactly what they wanted. They got
the ball out of Haliburton's hands. There was no way
to get it back to him. The shot clock was
ticking down, and you have a guy that scored two
points in the game with a basketball five five to
eight feet behind the three point line.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
That's exactly what you want, no part of it. What
was Haliburton thinking, No, did he lose track of time
on the shot? Qua? Like, yeah, I think he just
where he was. He just he gave up the ball
a little bit too fast. Maybe he thought I'm gonna
get up and get it right back. But that wasn't happening.
So yeah, clearly that was a big mistake by him.
And the fact that just the fact that he bails
him out with the three that you know he didn't

(18:02):
want to take. Then he's a smiling ear to ear
after the play. Is I guarantee he blacked out, doesn't
remember anything from it. I don't know I got the
ball that threw it up. I have no idea, I
have no idea what happened. I just it was just
so incredibly lucky. It's the luckiest shot I ever made
in my life. Like, if he's honest, that's what he's saying,
you're diminishing the fantastic game finishing exploit. So dude, you
say you say it like he went over two guys

(18:24):
and like Hart and Style twenty hierarching three nothing but
Nato Noby came off the bench and street clothes and
almost got no. He was as he was by himself,
just winding down.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Jason, You you've gone low before on this show in
the past decade, but this might be the lowest you've
ever gone.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Am I going? Love the guy made it, but give
the kids made the shot. You're you're basically just saying, hey,
or he had they forced him to play horse.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
You get me shot shot. You give him that shot
nineteen to twenty times, he's making it once.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Guess what he just made that I know? And he won.
He banged the Knicks. He won, and he he did
on a Friday night. Eh no, he did. He did.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Look and if I'll tell her coming off of this, like,
what's my like, what are my what are my mixed feres?
Now that it's two games to one, I'll tell you there's.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Are fears that were already there after Game two. No, no, no, no,
it's got to be that the series is now over
over for the next Yes, I would you just stop?
That's got to be your biggest fear. You know, you know,
you know, you know who.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
The playoffs are really over for? Justin the Knicks. Yeah no, no, no,
you know who they're really over for. You gotta say who, Clippers?
You gotta say who the Clippers? They're over for the Lakers. Okay,
just so you know, he's like, why am I here?
They're over the Lakers? Dude, I've seen way too much
playoff basketball. I need to take a break good. That's

(19:45):
pretty good. That's a good line. I just seen Wait, man, I've.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Seen a love. I mean, look, my heart, I've had
to be invested all the way in June years. Man,
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
I gotta I'm gonna hang it on the beach a
little while. Man, I'm okay, I'm okay. You to bring
back darvinhem again if he can't find anybody. Way, Hey, hey, Darvin,
come on back and keep the job. We can't find anybody.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
But no.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Look, I'll tell you about my two big fear of
seeing this series. One is one is not as big
as the other. The first one is that okay, because
what have I talked about? How long can the Knicks
play with just a handful of guys forty five forty
eight minutes? Right, especially with Andrew Nobi out. And I
don't think he'll come back before game six. He's not
out for the series, but I would say game six
is probably when he will come back. And hopefully no,

(20:29):
but I but he's not playing in game four.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
We already know.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Woj said he's not playing in game four. I can't
see him coming back in game five. So hopefully the
Knicks can get one of the next two and that
way when he comes back for Game six, potentially game seven,
there's there's still series left. But he traveled with them
to Indianapolis, so I don't so if he really was hurt,
he wouldn't have traveled. So I mean probably, Look, do
guys travel for emotional support. Maybe he'll come back and

(20:53):
maybe he'll come ride to the rescue. You just make
him an emotional support, yeah, can I bring it? He
don't get special vest and he has to wear with that.
I mean, good lord, no, but maybe what.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
You just did on the guy that was the most
important player, but some person outside of brute. Look, some
teams don't like when an injured player travels because, as
Bill Parcells would say, it's a reminder of who is
not there. So if you're injured, I want you away
from the team because the team thinks, oh boy, if
we just had you or some no the solutions in
the room. But certain teams, hey, we'd like to see
if the guy could maybe come back. And when you're

(21:24):
in a seven man rotation, you lose one of your
best player, when your third or fourth best player, it's well, okay,
if he can come back, that'd be great. I don't
explain him for Sunday, but probably Game six. But you guys,
you guys wasted an effort by your bench. The two
man bench actually came up four point. Aleck berkss comes
off the bench and starts hitting shots. He hasn't played

(21:45):
in like three months, and here he is hitting the show.
Always be ready, man, but always a reminder you never
know when that call is getting off. Amazing no matter
what your job is out there.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Most mister and Missus America most disliked, most disappointing trade
deadline acquisition. He couldn't get off the bench and now
slowly look at Alex Berks He's keeping us in the
game now. But first the first how long can it go?
Because the Knicks are playing just a handful of guys right,
Eventually they're gonna run out of gas. But they're not
running out of gas this series. It's not have you

(22:14):
can see them. They looked even fresher than the Pacers
in the fourth quarter, so you know it's not happening.
The only place I can the only way I can
see it a little bit is sometimes in the free
throws at the end of games where Brunson and Josh
Hart missed badly in the final minute, like Brunson missed
off the front of the rim, and it was I
think the bottom half of the basketball, the top half

(22:35):
of the basketball hit the front of the rim.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
We missed that bad.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
So sometimes it'll manifest itself in a free throw. And
I saw, you know, with Heart and Brunson, maybe that's what.
But everything else, it's you know, they're they're playing great.
This is this this whole we're tired thing is not
gonna manifest itself for at least another round. I'm not
too worried about that. What I really worry about, quite honestly,
is you think about this moment in time and how

(22:59):
the Knicks have found a way to do it for
so long while losing players every couple of games. Right,
you lost Julius Randall, Okay, you figured out a way
around him. Then you lost Mitchell Robinson, you lost Bogdanovich,
who is just starting to play some good minutes. And
now you lost to Annononobe, who you absolutely need a
taking your team from one of the worst defensive teams
in the league to one of the best. All you
do is see the first half tonight to know that, hey,

(23:21):
they really missed Antuonobi miss his defense. So missing this okay,
But I wonder if we have seen the Knicks peak
like this this week has been the peak of the Knicks,
and from here on out you see, Okay, Now the
Pacers start to assert dominance, they assert control, they win
game four, They have a lot of confidence going back in,

(23:43):
and the Knicks, who have been doing it one way
and having success, they question themselves a little bit. I
just wonder at some point the Knicks are going to
get a bounce because you can't keep playing at this
high level, playing these few guys and not expected to
be a little bit of rockiness. But every game is
kind of the same. You think they can't do it,
and the villain Knicks wind up doing something incredible to
say in it, like they did tonight. And that's why

(24:04):
tonight was such a big deal losing this game, because hey,
you go up three zip, all right, that's probably lights out,
and guys can sit and rest and you have a
long time to win the series. But now it's a series.
So that's my one big fear is that has this
been the week of the Knicks peak? And you see
it everywhere. You see in the media. I'll look at
these Knicks now it's time to talk about them and
all the attention on them and all the games they've

(24:25):
been playing, but seeing them play these last three games,
especially tonight, when they're dusting guys off the bench and
haven't played at all. Jericho Simms played tonight, he hasn't
played in forever. So that that's the one thing that
makes me go, mmm, we may have seen the knixt
peak and now the rest of the series may be
a little.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Bit downhill, a little bit downhill, and the Pacers start
to slowly assert control over this over the rest of
the way. Well, it goes back to as we were
at the end of the regular season and you and
I were talking about, not just because your Knicks fandom,
but just the discussion of what do they need for
the playoffs, because we're watching the Clippers and the Lakers
and the Warriors and the Suns and all of these

(25:04):
marquee teams and players flailing to the end of a
regular season to where you're like, all right, if they
get in, can they really get a run? Maybe not
so as much as we like the timber Wolves or
OKC and some of those component parts. It still becomes
a well you need that hub, right, you still need
one of those big cities, because why because people love

(25:26):
to hate watch And as likable as this Knicks unit
may be, it's still New York. So there's still a
lot of folks that have a liking problem, as in,
they don't go back to the Charles Barkley rant from
the other day, we're the only thing he really excused
was street Meet. So you get down to it is
they they've suddenly become and let's face it, a lot

(25:47):
of the TV shows and sports talk media comes out
of New York, so naturally they're going to gravitate to that.
And you've got a lot of Knicks fans in the media,
so it gets amplified a bit. Jalen brunts and it's
hard to dislike a guy who doesn't fit the suit, right,
the old here's your superstar, he's six six to six ' eight,

(26:07):
flies through the air with the greatest abase. So they
were an underdog. That's not an underdog as it were.
I mean even got apologies from people, as we've talked
about earlier in the week. Yeah right, people going, oh wow,
you know, we thought it was a terrible contract. And
a terrible overpay. But now look at what this guy's doing.
So yeah, it's come to that point. But with the
short rotation and the athleticism of Indiana, and this is

(26:31):
where it really comes comes to bear as this series
goes on, is that in theory, you eventually get to
where your legs are done and there's no rotation that's
gonna save you unless that eighth man comes back. Yeah,
and that's more of a worry when I say when
we get if we get to the conference finals where

(26:53):
you're playing the Celtics, that's where. But this series just
seeing them say, like I thought, okay, this is the
day they're gonna work, but they played back to back, Right,
we got Sunday Monday? Right, No, Sunday Tuesday is Jah
the next year? No?

Speaker 1 (27:05):
No, Actually there's an X yes, and there's an extra
day between game five and give and six, which is
why I think that's when Anna nobody's going to come
back for so.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
The extra time.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
All right, Yeah, so look it's it's if they were
gonna will If I was going to say it's going
to be a problem, it would have happened tonight. But
I'm not seeing I'm not seeing tired legs again. The
only thing that's manifesting itself a little bit is the
free at the end.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
But okay, well, but again, the fourth fourth quarter, I mean,
shooting percentage was dismal. What were they four of twenty
and there were a lot of shots around the rim. Yeah,
well you're not you're not elevating. But that's but that's
also a lot of give and take of game full like,
they pushed and the Pacers frantically came back, and it
was a one point game in the final seconds, and look,
the Knicks were going to be in a position to

(27:50):
win the game in regulation with fifteen seconds left, except
Nembard shots somehow finds the bottom of the net when
you know it was just shaking profusely taking that shot. Yes,
of course, I'm on. Of course he was. Now now
he's shaking like the guy with a million dollars or
a college scholarship on the line. I don't really want
the ball here, but I gotta shoot it, I guess
because I see the shot clock taking down to zero.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
The guy had two points in the gig out man,
Austin Rivers is gonna.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
Come and try to kick your ass. Guy, do you
know how harder job is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is he
one of the guys that can go from the NFL
NBA and play right in the NFL? Yes, you got
a less against the super serum. Or yeah, goes and
starts training for mister America and bulk his ass. Oh
just really quick, you know. I like to say, is
Austin Austin Rivers saying thirty guys could go from the
NBA to play in the NFL right now? Okay, put

(28:37):
those thirty guys in pads, put him in a full
foot him in a full contact practice. Let me see
how good they are. Let me see if they don't
get trucked on the first play they try to do
so they get back up. Let me see if they
don't get trucked and go, oh this is too much
for me. Man, I can't do it. Can't do it.
I can't do it. I really that's that's the one
to you know, Okay, go do it. Then.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
If there's thirty guys, let me see what just one
full contact practice, just one and you me or just
put them right in a game.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
If they're that good, put them right in the gate.
Let me see how they do. Let me see how
they do go play in the end. They go play
in the end. I got pretty excited about that. It's
easy because that got you thinking about doc rivers and
really it took you into a different space.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Exit out about a Fresco exit. SWOLLENDB. But no, But
that's why we have the nixt peak. That's the big
overarching thing. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon Live from the ti rag dot com Studios.
We'll have more NBA coming up in about twenty minutes.
But straight ahead, boy, do we have a great story
from the NFL. A huge bet between two up and
coming stars was canceled.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
But why was it really canceled? Oh?

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Get me here, that's gonna be fun. It's coming up next,
Jason to Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. Wow, Live from the Tirack dot Studios. Right now,
nine and a half to go in the fourth quarter.
Minnesota slowly creeping back into this one. It's ninety eight
seventy four twenty four point lead for Denver. Jokic does

(30:15):
not look happy about having to come back in this game,
but he is. He's walking to the scorer's table like,
I guess you need me for a few more minutes.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
That's fine.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
So he's getting ready to check back in the game
and is a twenty four point lead for the Nuggets.
They have been in control of this game throughout and
again nine minutes away from getting back in the series,
trailing this two games too.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
I think Wally's checking in too.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
I think you're right.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Yeah, yeah, Marberry's coming back into everybody. Oh yeah, KG
is coming. Oh Goog's is money man. Oh yeah, we
can get in and we've won.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
But more NBA. We'll have more in this game coming
up in a few minutes. But a big football story
tell we talked about Caleb Williams last earlier. This a
big bet has been canceled.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
If you remember a day ago rookies Molik Neighbors of
the Giants and Jayden Daniels of Washington. It came to
light because Melik Neighbors let it slip that he and Daniels,
you know, former teammates, made a bet for ten thousand
dollars as to who was gonna be offensive rookie of
the year. Now, obviously it's pretty benign. I don't think

(31:21):
you're gonna see anything one way or another.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
But the NFL, oh wait a.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Minute, yeah, they made they made a ten thousand dollars
wager about who's gonna be the offensive rookie of the year.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
And Daniels a little upset because when he was told about,
he was like, man Maleak's supposed to keep that quiet,
nothing to say anything. But the smart thing they did
was cancel the bet, because, look, do you really want
that because they off canceled it. You can't have a
ten thousand dollars bet on something going on. It's afl action.
You can't do that.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
No, I get it, and I get it's the right
call to make. And if I'm Daniels, I'm pissed at neighbors.
But I don't think it's because of gambling. I don't
think that's why they called off this bet.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
I really do. I I now I'm gonna tell you
why this bet was called off, and it was not
because of gambling. Finding I think that's just a complete
made up story. Really, okay, complete made up story. Sure, yeah,
because you know what it is. Molik Neighbors got to
giants Mini camp found out whose quarterback was gonna be
Oh that's a good line. I dig that. Whoa whoa, whoa, whoa,

(32:24):
whoa whoall the biggest thing I would have been asking, Hey, look,
Daniel Jones will be fine if he could stay healthy
and not suffer neck injury. Whoa, well, what's the matter
of a leak? Nothing? I just uh, I mean running
patterns for about ten minutes. Are you okay?

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah, I just gotta go send a text real quick.
Hang on, hang on a second. I gotta, I gotta,
I gotta, I gotta cancel something.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
I gotta Well, we can do it for you. We
have a bunch of people that traveling said no, no, no, no,
it's just something I gotta cancel with a friend of mine,
and I'll be right back. I'm just gonna take a
bathroom break it right back. No, he realized, Oh oh, oh,
Danny Dimes is my quarterback. Oh the guy getting paid
off of three games from the end of twenty twenty two. Oh,
that guy's my question. I'm not winning Offensive Rookie of

(33:11):
the Year. How am I gonna get the football. Oh yeah, no, no,
I gotta I gotta call this off with James Daniels.
How does not happen? I'm not doing it. Oh, to
be fair, he did get hurt last year. Oh no, no, yeah,
how was he before he got hurt? Oh, he had
a couple of rough games. Couple it was. He didn't
play that long. He was terrible. He was absolutely fourteen.

(33:31):
They were one and five when he started. He was awful.
He was awful with the capitol a capitol w awful
like you see it in when it says but I
was done. How do you pronounce it? He was terrible.
By the way that team was bereft of tenn he
was it doesn't matter. That's a terrible coming off the
season before where they had played. Look, he had three

(33:52):
incredible games at the end of twenty twenty two, right
the last two weeks of the regular season and the
first playoff game, and it was, well, we gotta pay
him now. The next when they played Green Bay, he
was terrible. But those three games that they needed to
win to make the playoffs. In their first playoff game,
Daniel Jones was great. He was like Josh Allen light
and they gave him all kinds of money him four years,
one hundred and sixty million dollars because they thought, oh yeah,

(34:14):
a guy after three years, he's finally getting it, and
I get it. The Giants kind of got stuck because
it was we just had this great success with a
new head coach that maybe brought out what we thought
we were getting from this quarterback. Josh, we're stuck. I
get it. I don't think you had to say, okay,
we're gonna give you. I mean, you could have found
a way to franchise him or something one hundred and

(34:36):
sixty million because he hadn't shown enough to say, yes,
you are our future. So yeah, the Giants are stuck.
Man and the Lait neighbors the same. Oh boy, what
about that other guy? What about Tommy? What about what
about Tommy? How about Pasta Tommy whatever his nickname was.
What about positive Tommy? Wasn't he Wasn't he pretty good
last year? I got to catch my b Yeah I'm
not winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. It's not happening. Yeah,

(34:58):
I look at it. He certainly that could play into it.
The other is he realized that you get votes by points.
It's like, so does he have to wait.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
It out right?

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Or do I get screwed? If Jaden has just enough
to you know, finish third, I'm fourth.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
What are the rules of engagement?

Speaker 3 (35:16):
What are we talking? If I don't win? But if
I don't win and he doesn't win, does that mean
it's okay? Because then maybe I have a chance because
somebody else would win it? Like maybe like if williams
at based on your analysis and discussion and jinxing my
bears earlier that you know, maybe he thought, well, then
it's a no bet. And then it's like, wait a minute, No, no,
there's still first, second, third, fourth, and fifth place voting.

(35:38):
We didn't have Tortellini, Tommy, isn't he No? The other guy?
The other guy? Okay? All right, like a nice Tortellini. Okay,
all right, I guess that's I guess that's what it is.
All right, No, that's what No. I dig that. I
think that's a nice alternate theory to go into our
law and order alternate theory of the crime. He got
the NFL going. You realize we've suspended people for full

(36:00):
seasons based on gambling histories. Devin Singletary said, Hey, Malik,
are gonna help you out what you know? I know
you knew to the league. I've been in the league
a few years now. I'm gonna take you under my wing.
Oh that's great. Hey heard you made this bet with
one of your teammates. Yea, hey yeah, I want to
show you tape of who's gonna be throwing the football?
Look the sure here's here's a video right here. This
is it?

Speaker 1 (36:20):
When is this from like it before his rookie year? No,
this is week one of last year. That's what this is.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
Oh well, thank god, I boy, that Indiana shot is
really uh. I gotta make a phone call. Knocked you
off center. I got to make a phone call. I
go to if I just text, If I just text
Jade and Lee will be okay, canceling this. I mean,
I'm not gonna see him. I've been paying that ten
thousand dollars right on the verge of rookie camp. What
do you want to talk about? Well, here's the first

(36:48):
thing we have to address. Exit.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
I'm about a Fresca exit swollen down The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carbon Coming up next, we get back
into the biggest basketball story of the night.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
