Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello and welcome in side hour two Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Lock at the Tireck
dot Com studios. Tirec dot com. I hope you get there,
an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road has protection
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyreck dot Com is the
way tire buying should be. Well, we're gonna have our

(00:48):
big second half bold predictions for the Major League Baseball
season coming up in a second. But just a little
bit on the conversation we had a few minutes ago
because Mike Harmon within the last five seconds to say,
what does that mean? So when we talked about Tiger Woods,
and I'd be really surprised if Tiger is still playing
competitively after twenty twenty five. He'll have some kind of

(01:11):
retirement tour. He'll play prorams with Charlie, but he won't
be playing at the tournaments anymore. He's not gonna go
out there and play like this right, thirteen over par
couldn't get it done. He's not playing a lot of golf.
He's not playing again until December. He's not gonna go
out at the majors and just embarrass himself and play
the other two or three tournaments here. It's not gonna happen.
The best athletes only embarrass themselves so much until they

(01:33):
realize I just can't do it anymore. Golf is a
little bit different because, look, when you retire from the NFL,
you retire. When you re tire from baseball, you retire,
you retire from golf. Tiger's still gonna be around the game.
He'll still do some programs with Charlie. Is he gonna
could he play some kind of crazy exhibition match somewhere. Yeah,
So it's not like we're never gonna see him with

(01:54):
a golf club in his hand again, because Tiger's still gonna, Hey,
when I can come do something for fun, I'm gonna
do it. But to see him at the Masters and
PGA and the Open Championship, and that's not gonna happen anymore.
Like next year I think is gonna be his last
year of playing that competitive and then it's gonna be, hey,
I'm kind of done. Who knows what I'm gonna play again,
But that's it. That will be the way he retires

(02:17):
and we just won't see him in those events anymore.
But yeah, once in a while, a couple times a year. Hey, look,
Tiger Woods is a golf club in his end, Yeah,
playing some special crazy ass tournament in them all, like
they did with the AFL Championship game tonight, him and
Charlie are playing and look at this, they're teeing off
at h and m. It takes them all the way
down to Macy's. Like, that's something I can see. But
playing competitively in those tournaments and playing on the tour

(02:40):
and tour events at twenty twenty five, I can't see
him doing it after next year. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
The joke was that, you know, you use the word
competitively because it's not at this point. It's it's an exhibition,
it's a it's a nostalgia tool.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
He's going to play in a tournament that keeps score. Okay,
the tournaments to keep scoring. Just I just had to
have the the smile at the you know, playing competitive golf,
because he's not.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
He gives you a couple of holes and maybe every
once in a while that that sound off the tea
is crisp and clean, and maybe one of those putts
that he used to make falls for him like it
used to. But yeah, the days of the competitive thing. Look,
I I know we got that that Glorio has run

(03:28):
a couple of years ago. That seems like a lifetime ago. Jason,
Oh yeah, look.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
That that was as Jack nicholas eighty six Masters win
was how does he win the Masters? How does he do?
That's it just it still baffles me that he's able
to come back and win at least one more. But
that's gonna be his last one? Oh sure?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah no, And and that's that's more the point, like
the idea of competitive and it was more the joke
to see if I couldn't get you flummixed.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
But it's it's it's tough to.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Watch right at this point, you know, when you watch
all time and they become a diminished version. I'm still
happy they're out there right, still swinging it. Even if
Tom Brady were just you know, DeVante Adams were to
lull him, you know, backy, you know, and lure him
back onto a field.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
You know, he was quoted as.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Hey, he's still better than at least half these guys
out there.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Right.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Look, the longer those guys play and I stopped seeing
junior juniors and the thirds and the fourths out there
of guys that I watched growing up, and they're actually
somewhere near my age.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Damn it.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I'm gonna fight for every one of those guys with
every bit of being that I have for them to
keep lacing them up and getting out on the course,
on the grid iron, in between the white lines of
a baseball diamond, or hell, Lebron James could play to
eighty at this point, it'll make me feel better about me.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Time. Now we'll have more on Tiger Woods and the weather,
because really, from a guy who was just in Scotland,
I mean, really, it's insane to realize the weather they're
playing in in the middle of July. But we promised
this was going to be part of our big second
half Major League Baseball Review show. Dodgers and Red Sox

(05:10):
right now, Marquee series this weekend. Nothing nothing right now
is the Red Sox bat in the top of the
fourth inning. Dodgers got some good news today as Clayton
Kershaw in a rehab start with TRIPLEA Oklahoma City through
the ball Fine, it was pretty good tonight. He wasn't terrible.
Four innings, gave up six hits, a couple of strikeouts,

(05:30):
no walks, and said afterwards, Hey, you know, whenever they
want me, I'm ready. I'm not built up for one
hundred pitches, but I'd love to be able to help
the team. So it would be great for him. The
sooner he can come back, the better. Because we talked
about last night one of the big bull predictions that
I'm concerned and worried about the Dodgers being a World
Series or bust team. My concerns at a ten because
they have no starting pitching right, absolutely no starting pitching.

(05:53):
But I'll kick things off with this, and it has
to do with a team they're playing tonight. You want
to give you a surprise MLB Division winner for the
rest of this year. And we've not talked about them
a lot because we've talked about the other teams in
the division. But I'll give you the Boston Red Sox

(06:14):
will walk away with the Al East over the Orioles
and the Yankees. The O's and the Yankees have been
tooth and nail at each other over the first half
plus of the season, and here are the Red Sox
playing extremely well and they're sitting four games back in
the lost column. Right, it's all we've seen in The
Orioles have problems, the Yankees have problems, But here are

(06:34):
the Red Sox saying, hey, our top two starters are
going to give you a quality start every single time out.
We're starting hit the ball. Now, where's we're kind of
laying in the weeds a little bit. The Red Sox
are playing really good baseball, and the Orioles and Yankees
have been the big story and the pressure about catching
each other, but for one time and for this year,
because obviously if the Red Sox are still one of
the marquee teams, but we haven't talked about them because

(06:56):
of the rise of the Yankees the last couple of
years and the big rise of the Baltimore Orioles. But
sometimes being that team that lurks is all you need.
And the Red Sox and kind of sit back and say, hey,
we're okay this year being a little bit of obscurity,
we're playing really well. Like I said, when your top
two starters are out there giving you a quality start,
what fifteen out of nineteen times, that's huge. Just ask

(07:19):
the Dodgers what they need. So you're talking about a
team of surprise division winner, somebody not leading their division
right now, I'll do the Red Sox taking the alias.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
See, I'm gonna go a little deeper. I'm gonna go
to the division and the team that beat the hell
out of my White Sox to get this half started,
that's the Kansas City Royals game.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Big but Bobby Witt Junior, everybody.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yeah, you know, I'm a big fan. He's a guy
that can get after it. Now. They did go into
the break. They lost two out of three on the
road at Fenway, so some of the litmus tests along
the way. But they did well against Saint Louis before
the break, and they've held more than held their own
against Cleveland within the division. Of games against the White

(08:01):
Sox scheduled, and a team that can go out and
score some runs in bunches as you saw tonight. So
I'm gonna go with them as a little bit of
a price shot, because a couple of weeks ago, you know,
starting to think about things, it was like, all right,
watch the Astros are gonna chase down the Maritiths.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Tada, there they are.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
So that's no longer, that's no longer an exciting pick,
as they're only one game behind as we start the
second half.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I mean, I just look at it like this, though.
I look and I go, Okay, the Guardians aren't really
this good. Like the entire season, I'm saying, Guardians aren't
really this good. They're at first place now, but the
Twins are gonna catch him. There's a the Guardians aren't
really this good. No, but they keep winning and now
you go, wow, they're the second best record in baseball.
Maybe the Guardians are this good. I keep saying, no, no,
they're not down, no, out, out out.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
The but it's a division.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Then dismissed though, right, yeah, because you do have a
couple of teams that are just absolutely atrocious at the
bottom of the divisions in Detroit and Chicago. So you know,
you're looking at our right and how much of that
is you know, beating up there, and and do you
get diminished because you're associated with them, right, kind of
like you're in a college football conference or a college

(09:10):
basketball conference. Yeah, you know the bottom half of your
conference stinks, so you must not be any good either,
even though you got Nailor and Ramirez who've been fantastic
and really they're they're only two monsters at the point
when it comes to home runs in a three outcome
baseball world.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
But yeah, and don't forget you got quant hitting three fifteen. Come. Yeah,
I went for the big boppers.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
We talked about Quan a lot and talked about him,
you know, just seating his leadoff spot in the All
Star Game clearly did not get the memo.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Yeah, I mean they look, they got four terrific play
including former met Andres and mines. They got four terrific
players the top of that lineup. I mean, that's something.
I'll give you a surprise playoff team, now, surprise playoff
team that's gonna find their way back in to contention.
They're under five hundred right now. No, dude, we just

(10:06):
did Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Oh did we just we just dosh?

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Okay, good, we just o.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Good to play representation.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
You guys took care of Cleave.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Hey, he's getting ready for football season.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, but with the extra wild card? What what do
we always say? Just got to be around five hundred
be their beginning of August, you know, middle of August,
beginning beginning in September, you'll find a way into the playoffs.
And they haven't had a great season. They're still waiting
for their guys to come back. But boy, I'll tell you,

(10:39):
at some point the Rangers are gonna catch fire and
they're gonna wind up getting back in as a wild card.
They're only five and a half games back now because
the division has been terrible, because the marriage has come
all the way back to the pack. But this is
a team that now here comes Max Schurzer for whatever
he has left. Jacob de Gram is on schedule to

(11:00):
come back at the end of August, and if he
has eight starts, okay, that's what you want. Madley's on
his way back to This could be a team that
just turns into a machine at the end of the summer,
getting good quality starts because you don't need Scherzer in
de Grom now for the entire year. It's kind of
like the Zion Williamson philosophy of Okay, well, when he's healthy,

(11:20):
he's gonna be really good. The problem is when you're
gonna have him. Okay. What you have to know for
the Rangers is, hey, we just need you for the
last like seven weeks of the season. That's it. That's
all we want. Seven weeks. You guys come back and
get get going, you know, early part of August. All right,
that's great. But I'm telling you, with those guys coming
back and on the way, suddenly this could be a
team that just starts. I'm breaking off wins and chunk

(11:44):
wins and here go the Rangers from from a team
that's a five games under five hundred. Pretty soon they'll
be five games over five hundred. They'll get into the
heat of September, and suddenly it's gonna be man, the
defending champs are fighting their way back into the playoffs.
I look at what they have for turning, and they're
not banking on seven or eight guys coming back. It's
just here's a couple of guys who are on their way,

(12:05):
and you don't have to worry about them going a
whole season. It's just seven weeks. So yeah, I'm okay
with saying we can bank on Suser, we can bank
on de Gram And these are guys that are gonna
pitch the Rangers back into contention and back into the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Look at you, I like that. I'm gonna go with
a team that right now is just on the outside
looking in. But conventional wisdom would say they fade miserably.
That's your Pittsburgh Pirates, AH, winners of five straight before
the break. Obviously, schemes on everybody's minds and hearts and souls,
but part of me wants to see Andrew McCutcheon get

(12:39):
back to the playoffs. O'Neil Cruz, who was injured and
missed a bunch of time, Well he's been he's strong.
Back at the plate. It strikes out a ton, but
so does everybody else in Major League Baseball. All just
a matter of how much starting pitching I can hold up.
Because you're gonna have a big race for that second
wildcard slot in the National League. And I'm selling, selling,

(13:03):
selling that the Pittsburgh Pirates somehow find their way because
it's destiny for this guy to become a global superstar.
On that schemes on a.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Whole look at you, Look at you? Oh? Can we please?
Can he please start one game? We don't need them
on Sunday to get to the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Can he please just one, just one one game. Let
let him pitch in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Can we have them just once? Just once, just one time?
Can we have just one time? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I mean they have a negative run differential, but it's
only minus eight.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
No.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Look, look, look who's who's making it to the World Series.
You add eighty four and eighty seven win teams last year,
you just gotta be a little bit better than five
hundred that said just get in and they would be fun.
Look you know what, even though they were a big
rival of the Mets for a long time in the
NL East, I'm always a big fan that when the
heritage teams are in the playoffs it makes it a

(13:51):
lot better. Teams like the Orioles, the Pirates. If the
Pirates got back in the playoffs, it would be such
a great story. The Reds, if they get in the playoffs,
are a great story. But the Pirates get back in
with schemes that would be I've seen the Pirates play
in October. I mean, come on, man, all the all
the old Bobby Benia, Barry Bonds video We're gonna show
and and Francisco Kent to Colvy.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Wow, here's the Cobra getting after it. I mean, come on,
let's go.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
I remember when I was little and we would play
stickball and I would try We would all try to
pitch like Ken. Okay, you have to pinch like Kent
to culvey this inning, and so you always had to
throw underhanded and try to and try to pitch that way.
We would know you gotta throw like that the entire inning.
I can't throw a strike, doesn't matter. Gotta throw like
that the entire inning and see if you can do it.
I dident to culvy innings.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
I may or may not have been fed up with
a manager in Little league to the point where I
did a Kent to colve a couple of batters. Oh
you want to talk about coming from the left side,
the kind of action you get on the ball.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Oh, dude. I would always love hitting against against someone
with that kind of motion because I could see the
ball so well and the way it ro and I
would just crush that. Anybody who pitched sidearm or that
kind of I would go, Okay, no, I'm gonna eat
right now. I can see this. You're just one of
those things where I always saw the ball really well.

(15:12):
I mean, other guys I had trouble with when they
could throw those sweeping sliders and that's it really knocked
me out of playing shortstop for the Mets. But like
when guys can throw like that in submarine and under oh,
I always saw the ball really well. Man Aus met
you the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live and
the ti rack dot Com Studio. So there you go.
Some bold predictions for the second half of the Major

(15:33):
League Baseball season coming up next. We have big stuff

gonna come on and mention Cowboy Bes and Caleb Williams.
That's next right here, Jason and Mike. Happy Football Friday.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon live fromtheti rack dot com Studios. Big
stuff in the NFL this week. Caleb Williams looks like
he's going to play in the preseason, did not get
his no trade clause. For more on this than other

(17:50):
big stories, the Texans five Headed Monster. We bring in
our own five Headed Monster. He is a longtime NFL insider.
He is a haul, a very good voter for the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. He's on Twitter at Jason
Cole sixty two. It is Jason Cole. What's happening, buddy?

Speaker 4 (18:14):
It's so beautiful. It just really is. Because I had
maybe a couple, just maybe a couple of what you
might call a fresh skila. And what is the fred
skila you ask for, especially somebody who knows who is

(18:35):
that they handle? How about a fresca? It is a
combination of fresca and tequila.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Whoa, and it is.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
It is amazing and it's sort of like a white
trash margarita. I go with that.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
So wait, wait, so you actually found someplace that serves fresca.
I mean, like, that's that's a big deal. Man.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
Now it's my home. That's my home.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
We bought the press, we bought the fresh We brought
it home.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
And we and we had tequila. The tequila is ever
president at my house. But yes, the fresco is. My
neighbor came up with this. I shouldn't say he came
up with it. He introduced us to it a couple
of weeks ago, and uh we had a couple more
of them tonight. It was quite delicious, refreshing wow, as

(19:31):
as only freshman could be. So how about a fresco?

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Wow? Hey, guess what? Hey, guess what hall of fame? Hey?
Are your big Hall of fame voter as this? No?
Not Now I have ammunition against you when you when
you have to get Jets in the Hall of Fame.
So now I feel pretty ammunition.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
What I've admitted having a press cut.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Maybe some of your Hall of maybe some of your
Hall of Fame recommendations are due to Frescuila.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Wait for it, what what? I was going to say
that I had new found respect, but I'd never actually
found respect for you. But so I have no idea
what that what that was? I was trying to pay homage,
an homage to Presca to help you out, because obviously
you like Fresca or for some reason you pick how

(20:23):
about a Fresco, But for whatever reason, I thought you
would be interesting.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
And it's a caddyshack line. That's that's why it's all
about a frescot. It's caddyshack.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
Yeah, but I thought you would actually like Presca because
you actually picked it out. So there we are. Anyways,
do we want to talk actually about football? L Williams,
you know something like that.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Yeah, he's going to get some pre season reps. He
got his contract. Everybody in Chicago. The word Hope is
on walls all over the city Chicago.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Hope. Where where we heard that one before?

Speaker 3 (20:55):
What a great show it was? Many Patak was brilliant
Christine Lottie, I Fire.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
Chicago, Hope, Chicago, whatever it was.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
You know, it's an entire NBC whole Chicago night. It's
like fire and law and police, like it's a whole
night of Chicago.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
I know every I guess Caleb. I mean, I don't
understand why people are really surprised that he's getting reps
in the preseason, Like, how are you supposed to get
ready to actually play in the NFL if he doesn't
play in the preseason? What? I didn't quite get this?
What what was the what was the consternation that made

(21:33):
this newsworthy?

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Because nobody plays anymore. No guys play anymore because Sean
McVay rooted for everybody by winning the Super Bowl and
holding all his starters out, so nobody plays the preseason.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
Okay, is anybody expecting the Embars to win the Super Bowl?
You know? Other than Harmon?

Speaker 3 (21:51):
I mean, I'm driving at Bear's bus straight to Vegas.
My friend, let's go.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
Okay, let's call. That's sounds almost like Dave one step
remember as you remember those days, don't you?

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (22:08):
All too well, I'll start singing the Taylor Swift ten
minute version of all too well. That's how much I
love that those days.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
Sometimes, Yeah, I know, I like, this is a great thing.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
He got the deal done. I I'm I have curiosities
about like who actually you know negotiates contract form or anything.
But it's a lot to deal with all that kind
of stuff. But whatever, it's done. He needs to play
in the preseason. He needs to play a lot. He
needs to play as many reps as they can. That's
a good thing. I mean, at least you're not hearing
them say, oh, we're worried about like maybe he needs

(22:41):
to hear you know, to hold him off for a
year at least start putting him out there. But I
was like, I didn't again, I didn't quite get it.
Like I was fully expecting this guy was going to
play two thirds of the preseason and then you know,
gave us another third two you know, the backups. But
you know he should play again two thirds the downs
in the pre in in the preseason. Get that action,

(23:05):
get him ready for the season. He needs it. I mean,
this is a kid who amazing talent, right but hasn't
played very disciplined football because Lincoln Riley doesn't believe in
discipline at USC in any way, shape or form, and
that's why you see really bad football at USC. The
second thing is that that stuff that he's doing is

(23:30):
not going to work at this next level. It probably
will work, you know, while people are getting, you know,
figuring out what he does well and what he doesn't
do well, but he's going to hit a wall at
a certain point. So he needs to be ready to
actually play the discipline football that you know. Patrick Mahomes
took a year to learn that playing behind Alex Smith.

(23:53):
But I think that I think that, you know, Caleb
Williams is more advanced player than to have Patrick Mahomes
at this point in time. I'm not saying he's a
better player, but he's more advanced in terms of understanding
what he's supposed to do a quarterback right now. I
just think he needs to tone down some of the
hero ball that he played at USC.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
What what are the of the rookie quarterbacks you're most
excited to see for whatever reason, whether training think they're
going to be great? Who do you want to see?
Who are you most interesting?

Speaker 4 (24:22):
So I mean it's all about Williams. I see. I
remember two years ago going to the Stanford USC game, right,
and I was like, Okay, what's Caleb Williams really about?
And he stepped back and he threw some amazing you know,
he did some amazing stuff with the ball. He really
did like some of the touch passes. He threw some

(24:44):
of the stuff on time. Now, he does hold the
ball a little bit too much, and he makes his
offensive line work a little too much, which again he's
not going to get away with in the NFL. The
defenders are too good. But he's so capable and so
much better than everybody else when it comes to doing

(25:05):
stuff like that. I'm all in on watching Jayden Daniels. Okay,
that's fine, whatever Drake may find whatever, But you know,
the guy who you know somewhere down the line, I
really want to see his tenix. But I don't think
he's going to get a lot of action this year, right,
And I'm excited about the way he plays as well,

(25:29):
But Caleb Williams is the one who's going to play
more down than Maybe He's give me the most interesting
quarterback this year by far.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
All Right, So the the chaos theory, I mean, Smith
wants Adams to come to the Jets, but I'm more
interested in what happens in San Francisco is Brandon and
I are you going to stay there for the year
or did they eventually find.

Speaker 4 (25:49):
Come on, they are this close right there there, what
two plays away from winning the laud Super Bowl, and
there he's playing for that. He's not playing for anybody else.
The question really is how long does Debo Samuels last
with them? And I think Samuels makes it to this
season and then they're done with Deebo Samuels, mostly because

(26:12):
I think they believe that DeVos Amuels is going to
get hurt and all those all those things. His shelf
life is not as great, but I owk the guy.
What I'm really concerned about with the forty nine ers
is will they have learned something from the same the

(26:33):
Devo Samuel hold out and then the Boastall hold out,
which is those guys held out right and they waited
for their money and waved for their money. It took
a long time to finally get it done, and neither
of them had great seasons afterwards. And I think that's
a commonality. It's like, you got to want your guys
to be all in right, you got to be excited
about this, So why are you hedging on this? You

(26:55):
know you pay them, you do something to make them happy. Okay,
right now, I doesn't like the fact that he's only
getting twenty six million dollars a year instead of the
twenty eighth that he wants change the contract and make
it something that's more acceptable for him. But he's your guy,
and you're I mean, you're you're you're thinking, you know,

(27:15):
super Bowl titles. You shouldn't be worried about the cap
right now. You can fix the cap three years from
now when you have to rebuild. Don't worry about the
cap now.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
But the thing I look at it with Iukja is
that he's made it combative over the last few months,
Like this is not hey, I want money, it can
work out. Hey, I'm holding out. I understand. This is
not Aaron Rodgers being an egypt and Robert Sala saying
we understand, it's an excuse. Like he has made it combative.
Now the social media posts say, and now it's I'm
demanding a trade like I don't you can satisfy him now.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
But because that's what Debo had to do, right and
because Bosa had to be com combative, right, and essentially
not practice for all the training camp like this came
down to. Both of those came down to stare downs.
So what have you trained your player to do in
order to get paid? You paid? You know, you said,
let's get into a stare down with him. The other

(28:10):
thing is, if you know the background, the dad's really
involved in this negotiation as well, and the dad's pushing
it because the dad looks at the stats and he
looks at you know, and he believes in his son,
of course, and he's sitting there going, why aren't they
making my kid, you know, the higher paid player than
say Jalen Waddle, right, who hasn't accomplished as much as

(28:31):
as his kid. At least that's what you know. At
least that's what I's father believes, right and for all
you know the best intentions, right, you don't you believe
in your son? Okay, this is not to blame him,
but you're not recognizing the forty nine ers have to
be the bigger person in this whole thing and recognize

(28:51):
the dynamics and go okay, here are here are a
set of other ideas that get us around this. And
the other thing is stop stop taking a stand in
a moment where you can't take a stand. You need
the player, he need to win. You need to take
advantage of this window. You you're not worried about two

(29:15):
or three years down the line, You're just not. You're
playing for right now. So if you're playing well right now,
take advantage of right now. You're a window is open
right now. So stop stop pretending that you know you're
somehow going to win this battle. You're not. The player
is going to win the battle. And if you and

(29:35):
if you do, get the bad idea that you should
trade him. Okay, you know you're depending on Pearsl to
come in and be the guy. No, they took Piersl
because they're going to do this for one year with
AUK and you know they can force him to play
the one year on the one year deal. But that's
not what you want to do either, because again their

(29:56):
long range plan is more about how do they move
on from debo after one year, which is why they
took Pearsol. Okay, they want to have IUK go with
IOK and sam and Samuel for this year as their
main two guys, then let go Samuel in a year
and moved and moved to Pearsol. That's that's what they
want to have happened, So go make it happen.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That is,
at Jason Coles sixty two. He is powered by for Skila.
Tonight here on the show Cowboy.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Take it easy, buddy, we'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
Is in the is in the Alcohol Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Yeah, very good. Yes, I think Andy Cohen invented that
drink like ten years ago. But okay, I think we're good.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
But as he bottled it, Yeah, let's bottle it.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
I I can make millions telling that at the University
of Florida.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Right now, the University of You got folks pulling up
with their hot dog carts and that j colest all of.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
The all the Florida the University. If I saw it there,
I make billions, billions.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
And billions there. It is a man who's gonna buy
the cowboys with the money he has made off of
selling for Skila in Florida. See you, buddy, fun Oh
you never know what you're gonna get for Skil A
visit from Jason Cole. Uh, you know honestly that that
went a lot different than I thought it was gonna go.

(31:25):
When we first found out about for Scilla, I'm like, okay,
but it actually went in a different direction. I was.
I was surprised.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
Hey, well, you know what, sometimes you gotta you gotta
have that shock, shock and awe kind of moment there.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of
sports from mister Jin and Tonic, because that's what he
has before every single day.

Speaker 6 (31:45):
It's Steve de Seger, although he was no doubt referencing
the world's largest outdoor cocktail party after.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
All, no question. And the Seger does do the murder,
she wrote, I mean he does, he does do that.

Speaker 6 (31:58):
Have you seen the Pat Summer Old docu entry, which
is great, by the way, on NFL Network. He said
that after a while when he was on the Sunday
Games with John Madden, it became kind of a thing
in the booth to see how long he can wait
in between, you know, in the middle of that title
saying coming up after the ball game tonight is murder.
Pause pause, pause, pause, she wrote. And it became a

(32:21):
thing of its own to the point that people our
age absolutely remember Pat summerle and thinking that maybe his
mic went off, or he just fell asleep at the
end of the night, or yeah, see I heard.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Something else was the reason why.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
She wrote speaking of cocktail parties.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (32:39):
As for football news, Vikings first round quarterback JJ McCarthy
signed his rookie deal that leaves two players is the
only two from this year's draft class unsigned Vikings linebacker
Dallas Turner and still Bengals offensive tackle Maarius Mims. Running
Back Kenyan Drake retired after eight seasons. Former Bear safety
Eddie Jackson signed with the Ravens. He was released in February.

(33:02):
Chicago Bears veterans reported to training camp today. The Hall
of Fame exhibition will have Bears, Texans August first, Chiefs
and Ravens veterans each report to camp tomorrow. Packers' vets
report on Sunday. Most NFL veterans reports on Tuesday were
getting closer. Shane Lowry leads the Open Championship by two
strokes in Scotland. Justin Rose is tied for second place

(33:23):
among those missing the cut, bryceon de Shambeau at nine
over Rory McElroy eleven over par and Tiger Woods, who
was fourteen over Churchill Downs, rescinded its long suspension of
Bob Baffert. The Hall of Fame trainer can now resume
racing his horses at that track and its partner facilities
after he finally took responsibility. Baffort was banished for more

(33:43):
than three years after a failed drug test of his
twenty twenty one Kentucky Derby winner. Medina Spirit Kevin Durant
finally practiced with Team USA today. He'd been out for
a couple weeks with a strained calf. The US men's
Olympic team has two exhibitions in London, including Saturday on
five TV three pm Eastern Time versus South sud An.
Monday afternoon on Fox. It'll be the US against Germany.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (34:06):
The US Olympic Women's basketball team as it's sendoff game
against a club of WNBA stars. The WNBA is off
for about a month. They did have their three point
contest and skills challenged tonight, Atlanta's Alisha Gray one of them.
Both to Major League Baseball, there are three late games.
The Red Sox lead one nothing at Dodger Stadium against
La top of the sixth inning Jared Duran, the All

(34:29):
Star Game MVP with a home run. Astros lead three
to nothing at Seattle bottom of the fifth, three errors
for the Mariners, and at Oakland it's the A's ahead
of the Angels seven to three, bottom of the sixth inning.
Kansas City a seven to one winner against the White Sox,
who've lost five in a row. The White Sox win
loss record this season now, and this was pointed out
by a Sox writer, is both of Carlton Fifth's numbers

(34:51):
they are twenty seven and seventy two. O Man before
and after Baltimore a nine to one winner, Texas Anthony
Sentendre two homers, five rby Eyes, Cleveland shut out San
Diego seven thing Yankees and Garrett Colby Tampa Bay six
to one, and Pittsburgh with two in the ninth defeated
the Phillies eight seven. Pirates have won five strade Back

(35:14):
to you.

Speaker 1 (35:14):
Wow, Carlton Fisk Knight for the Chicago White Sox twenty
seven and seventy two.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
The only problem is they lost very quickly tonight. Frisklike
you would have gotten a couple of extra adjust yourself
pauses and time out to the mound.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
You can only ask for so much from the White Sox.
I mean, come on, man, I mean really, you're you're
you're asking for a little bit too much. Hey, could
you get it? No, No, listen, we're the White Sox.
We're gonna lose. It's gonna be over by the third inning. Okay,
all right, all right, we'll do your best at least. Yeah,
thank you, Steve.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
Good times.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Oh I like that. It's it's Carlton Fisk Knight. They're
twenty seven and seventy.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Thanks Steve.

Speaker 4 (35:52):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Coming up next, one NFL superstar wants a trade. We'll
tell you not only where he will wind up a
dark course team and one team that won't trade for him.
That's Cleveland does fall into that category. But it's not
who we're talking about. Yeah, we're not talking about it.
That's coming up next right here, This is Fox.

Speaker 6 (36:15):
I'm Jason Smith, and I just like to say Cleveland
is not a part of things.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
The Jason Smith Show with My Best Friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tireck dot Com studio thanks to Jason
Cole stopping by a few minutes ago talking NFL with him.
And you know, I get the fact that the forty
nine ers, they've been the big talk all week. It's
Brandon Ayuk demanding a trade. What I said beginning of

(36:54):
the week still holds true. Now, are the Niners going
to part ways with him sometime in the next few months? Yeah?
Or were they hoping that maybe they could get through
this year and have Ayuk debo and then replace one
of them, most likely Ayuk with Peersol, who they took
in the first round. Yeah, I mean that's what we
said beginning of the week. They were hoping to do this,

(37:16):
But in reality they know they're gonna have to deal him,
and Ayuk has made it very, very combative and he
wants out and if he doesn't show up, and it's
gonna be a case of the Niners saying, hey, we're
integrating new players and is he gonna be able to
come back and be the guy? Eventually they're gonna want
to move on. So when that happens, which will be

(37:39):
right before the season begins, because they're not gonna do
him any favors and say, hey, yeah, we'll trade you here. No, no, no,
We're gonna trade you somewhere at the end of camp
where it's gonna be a little bit for you to
get up to speed, and we're screwing you and your
new team for at least a short run. Now, you're
probably gonna sign a long term deal. You're gonna stay
there forever. Okay, that's great, but we're not gonna do
you any favors. But if you tell me the two

(38:02):
teams that are he could wind up going to the
team I would bet money on is the Steelers. I mean,
there's been so much smoke around the Steelers. Hey, if
Ayuk becomes available, he's a guy we gotta go get.
You know, the Steelers need another wide receiver after letting
one go. Hey, we need something else. There's been too

(38:22):
much smoke around that story for Pittsburgh to not be
the destination. They're outside the conference, it makes sense that's
where Ayuk's gonna go. I think there's too much, too
much has gone down the road with that and that
story for that not to be where Ayuk winds up.
So if I'm betting I'm betting on the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Yeah, I still come back to the you know, as
we just discussed with Jason Gole, that you get him
in the door and if they want to walk away
with Deebo Samuel, they can. But for Ayuk, obviously, he
wants double per year of what he's making on this
club option right he's making about fourteen and a half.
He's looking to get near that thirty million dollar mark.

(38:58):
And we've seen this with the forty nine ers, couple
of guys demanding trades kicker Mosah. You know, you've had
a couple of guys who've done this and ended up
getting the deal that they they wanted or something akin
to it. And I think commerheads prevail when you look
at it that you've got a big time playmaker for

(39:20):
Brock Purdy and you just don't trade him away for
you know, pennies on the dollar when it comes down
to his value against the marketplace.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Here. Now, if I'm looking dark horse right like, where
could I see him going? That's a little bit not
off the beaten path. But a team we're not talking
about the bills. Bills are interesting. This is a you know,
they still believe they have their Super Bowl window open
the back half of the prime of Josh Allen's career.
They let Stefon Diggs go. Yes, I like Keon Coleman

(39:53):
maybe more than other other people. Do you know, he's
a huge playmaker. I watch him play a lot at
Florida State. But they need something else, right Like James
Cook has turned into a terrific running back in Dalton
and Kaid maybe turning into the next Travis Kelcey. But
you need something else. A wide receiver. I mean, yeah,
Curtis Samuel's nice, but you need someplace you gotta go
with the football and where you know you're you're it's

(40:14):
too much to expect, Hey, here comes Coleman, the rookie
year to jump in and be terrific. But I would
be a guy that would fit exactly what they'd want
him to do. And Buffalo be able to make that move.
And it's even you know you're you're talking about sending
him even further away, you know, to Buffalo. Yes, you're
sending him to a contender. But I can but I
can see the Bills kind of rising up and saying,

(40:35):
here's what we'll put out there for Brandon. We're not
paying Steffan Diggs anymore. Don't have to worry about paying him.
We moved on. But they need something else. So if
you're telling me, hey, if it doesn't work out with Pittsburgh,
where would I say? Watch out for the bills?

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Shakir and and thes part of that. I don't know
what Chase Claypool is gonna give you there, but he's
on the the what the roster as we get ready
for camp here.

Speaker 1 (40:59):
He had a lot of mess. You got a lot
of me.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Well, you got you got two and three.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
Shakir's interesting, but I don't I don't think the ceiling's
too high. And then you got Curtis Samuel there, I
would say, right down the street from us. I mean,
I got a lot of photos of Jim Harbaugh in
between lawyer ads here in southern California on the highways.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
What about the Chargers? Oh you know, I am glad
you brought up the Chargers because I will give you
a big, big NFL Bowl prediction about Jim Harball coming
up next. I'm glad you brought it. I'm glad you
brought it. But maybe he is, maybe he's a wizard.
But but on the surface. Yes, absolutely right, are they really?

(41:38):
Lad McCaughey's gonna be your number one? Quentin Johnston potentially stinks.

Speaker 3 (41:42):
So oh man, Yeah, Jerry Rice's Sun comes into the mix.
But you don't have uh, you don't have a lot
of depth here.

Speaker 1 (41:50):
But I'll give you a big Jim Harbaugh bold prediction
coming up next. Right here, Jason and Mike, you are
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Out not Cleveland. Don't play
the Cleveland thing, tight shir, It's not Cleveland. Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
M hm.
