Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside. The greatest night in the history of sports,
in the history of the world.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Is it because of Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
It's Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon Live from the ti iraq dot Com studios tirac
dot com.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
I hope you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
at over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com is
the way tire buying should be well. Fourth quarter, right now,
six and a half to go. Bucks lead the Falcons
thirty to twenty seven. Bucks get the ball back after
a field goal that gave them the lead. Still about
(01:05):
half way to go here in the fourth quarter, Kirk
Cousins up near four hundred yards and three touchdowns. Baker
Mayfield three touchdowns as well as a Bucks see if
they can bleed some clock off here and extend their
lead over Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, they just had a huge opportunity to throw to
Mooney to hit him in the chest. Not quite sure
what happened. He got tangled up a little bit with
the defender. But Kirk with the deep drop hits him
fifteen yards downfield. It just bounces off his chest to
set up the fourth down.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
And he's having a great game. I mean, yeah, he's
having a great He's got two touchdowns, he's having a
great game. So again, really fun one going on right
now between the Bucks and the Falcons. Will have more
on that coming up in a few minutes. But look, hey,
sometimes it's amazing when sometimes it's about you. Now, listen,
this could have been if this was the we'd be
(01:54):
doing this. If this was the Yankees and they found
a way to hit.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
You could just say, if it was the White Socks, well,
at least give me.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Something, because I want to understand reality, Like, that's not
a man. If Aaron Judge hits a three run homer
in the ninth inning to give the Yankees win, they
move on in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
We're doing this right, We're doing all.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Mean, he did kind of suck for a while towards
the end of the season, so yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, yeah, Luckily he was so incredibly good the rest
of the time.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
But yeah, he did have a little bit of.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
A little bit of fun, you know, and then he
started homering every game again.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
But look, the Mets beat the Brewers four to two,
and I can't tell you how loud I screamed when
Alonso hit that home run.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
I really was.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I was so oddly calm in the top of the
ninth mainly because look, being a Mets fan, you experienced
every range of emotion all the time.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Things are either great or they're the worst.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Right, Like, they're either this is unbelievable, I can't believe
and there's not a lot of moments like that, or
this is the worst. We have to trade everybody, get
rid of. We got to start over, new manager, new GM,
new R. Right, we gotta do everything right.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
That's that's the way it is.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
So in the ninth inning, like it goes in, it's
two nothing and the Mets had nothing going on all
game long, right, every picture the Brewers put in, uh,
they were able to make the Mets look silly, and
I said, the Mets have no life going on, and
it's too nothing. And I'm already ready saying, Okay, the
first thing I'm gonna say after this game is over
is and man, when a guy hitting one ninety nine
(03:15):
and another guy with two home runs all year go
back to back jacks in the in the seventh inning,
it's not your night, right. It did what is right.
The Brewers are going to win. They're the better team.
They're showing it all of this. And then the ninth
inning comes and we get to the ninth and I'm like,
I feel fine because if they lose, I've already accepted it.
But I got a fan. I tweeted it. I tweet
(03:38):
it because I had we had the top of the order.
If Lindor gets on, I feel really good. And Lindor
got on with the walk, and I just wanted Viento's
to not hit into a double play because he was
just absolutely lost the night. The strike zone for him
was awful. And then I'm like, okay, let's get Nimo
and Alonzo up. That's what I want, Nimo and Alan
and Nimo rips the base hit to right center field,
(03:58):
and Alonzo comes up two hundred and twenty six home runs.
You know, a couple of fifty home run seasons. One
of the best players the Mets have had the last
twenty five years, and his entire legacy rode on mad
at bat right like all the great stuff he has done,
Your entire legacy rides on this at bat because you
have been awful. I'm began five h's in his last
(04:19):
like fifty at bats, he has been awful. All the
great stuff he's done, five comes down to one at
bat here. If you can do something here, your legacy,
everything else is still wide open for you. And this
is what Pete Alonzo did with a three to one
count for Williams, sending the Mets into delivery.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Bryan one to Alonzo, william Sex.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Here's the pitch swing on a fly ball to right
field pretty well, hits Raylik back at the wall.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
He jumps. He's done.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Ha hate da peyt Alonzo, with the most favorable home
run of his career, pumps as fast as a round second.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
That's a three run homer. He's given the Mets a
three to two lead. Howie Rose Mets Radio Network with
the call.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
They get another run to go up four to David Peterson,
who is maybe still going to start Game one against
the a Phillies in a couple of days, comes in
for his first career save. He's been the mets best
starter the last four and a half weeks, and the
Mets beat the Brewers to go on and it was
just it was lightning. It's the second night this week.
Lightning just absolutely struck the Lindor home run against the
(05:25):
Braves on Monday, and Alonzo's homer here and what happened,
and it was It's just an insane moment. And you know,
we've talked a lot about Alonzo. We're gonna hear from
Pat Murphy coming up in a second, the Brewers manager
who talked about, hey, Devin Williams, their closer getting hit
that hard in the ninth inning. But you know, when
when Francisco Lindor came over from the Mets and he
signs a big contract, and I remember a lot of
(05:48):
it was he got criticism because what kind of leader
is He's maybe he's not a leader, right, He's a
guy that loves playing, loves the game, is really really good,
but that kind of money, you want a leader and
there were questions as Lindor leader is he not? And
you know, with the Mets didn't have a lot of
great seasons. Twenty twenty two was pretty good, but what
happened at the end the Mets kind of dovetailed and
(06:08):
they backed into the playoffs and they lost in the
first round. So you know, for Lindor, he still kind
of has that tag on him of hey, is he
a leader? He hasn't made an All Star team with
the Mets, and then he has an unbelievable second half
of the year where he's going to finish a strong
second to show Heyotani and MVP voting, there is going
to be no stronger a second place finish in the
history of baseball Mike Harmon than Francisco Lindor finishing second
(06:30):
to show hooty.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
He is going to get more second place votes than
anybody in history.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
He should be like, I want to see Shoo Tani, MVP,
Francisco Lindor unanimous second place.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Well, yeah, but who gets to be No, No, there'll
be one person that votes and kind of like we
saw with the w NBA Rookie of the Year, who's
this version of Fred Hickman.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
The late. Oh, wow, I.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Wasn't disrespecting the man. I don't disrespect his votes. I'm
saying that legendary thing. You say that like you want
to say, maybe he was the guy that didn't vote
for Caitlin Clark today.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
I don't know. Maybe that was you where you're gonna
go with that.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Wow, that that would have been kind of I mean,
it is Halloween season, you know, ghostly things. But I
wasn't being crude.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
No, no, but but this is the thing, is that
once in a while you get a glimpse as to
when when you understand the outside, you get a glimpse
into the inside of a team and you understand how
the team feels about a guy. You know when a
guy is a leader, and what his status is with
the team, and you know, look, yes, he had the
meeting when the Mets were eleven games under five hundred
(07:34):
and the Mets started playing better at well, then grimms
throughout the first pitch. The Mets had a meeting, and
Grimace throughout the first pitch. Lindor called the meeting, and
the Mets wound up, you know, catching fire from there, right,
best record in baseball.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
You go back to the to June.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
But there's certain moments and there there's small moments. And
I talked about it with Bryce Harper last night, where
where the maturity that he has shown the last few
years really has impressed me and the person he's become
was a small moment from the Mets Philly series a week.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
And a half ago.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
And I remember it with the Yankees when they won
in two thousand and nine, when the final out of
the game, the Yankees win, they win the World Series
and everybody runs to a Rod and after all the
controversy all that, do him and Jeter get along? And
what do the Yankees feel about a Rod?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Is a Rod?
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Well liked all of these questions. The Yankees win the
World Series and who did everybody run to? Like, everybody
ran to a Rod coming in from third base. So
that was one to tell me, you know, that's how
the Yankees feel about Alex Rodriguez, all the stuff that
goes on, that's how they feel about.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Him because they all ran to him.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
The Mets beat the Brewers and MLB just put this
out on Twitter and I just retweeted it. Lindora is
doing an interview on MLB Network following the game. And
he finishes the interview by saying, thanks Mets Nation, we
did it.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
We'll see you. I gotta go, and he takes the
headset off.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
The Mets team is all lined up for the end
of series picture, right, They're all lined up. They're all
like that because now all teams take pictures go we're
going to the postseason after this round of the postseason.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
So it's a big team picture.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
And they're all lined up and they're waiting for Lindor
to finish, obviously because he's doing the interview, and they're
all standing and Lindor comes running over and he's pumping
his fist and everybody just starts screaming, and a couple
of guys.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Jump up and fist bump him.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
And he stands in front of the team and he's
yelling and he's and he's waving his fist and everybody
is waving their fist back at him.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
It's like a political rally.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Like when when you see someone saying, and we're gonna
go and we're gonna win here, and we're gonna win here,
We're gonna win here. Yes, and Howard Dean is doing
Oh boy, how poor Howard Dean.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Maybe That's what it was like.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
And ye think to get him disqualified, right, a lot
of people's minds how much scams like idiot?
Speaker 1 (09:45):
How much is politics change in twenty years? That got
Howard Dean disqualified? But you see he's standing in front
of everybody, is jumping up and down and yelling, and
Mendoza is jumping up and down, and they're all yelling
at the top of their lungs. And and if you
have any doubt about the leadership ability of Lindore, forget
about what happened this week with the home run, the
(10:06):
walk here and there, Like just seeing him do that
and seeing the way the Mets all stopped and yelled
for him, Like you know, that's his status, and you
know that's the guy he is, like, so there should
never be any questions about him again. But just I
get goosebump seeing this moment, seeing him run and yell
in front of him. I mean, it's it's it's it's
Leo and Wolfe of Wall Street. When he tells everybody
he's not leaving, everybody is screaming. I mean, this is
(10:28):
I mean, this is just a again, it's a small moment,
it's a celebratory moment.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
But it's a small moment. The game is over, it's
been over for a half hour. They're out to take a.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Picture and and they're they're on the Brewers field and
everybody is just looking back and honking it up with Lindor.
I mean, really, it's it's this is I'll watch this
just as much as I'll watch Alonzo's home run over
the course of the next Uh, Like, you know, forty
eight hours before I gotta get back going for the
Philly series, Like that, that tells me everything I need
to know about how the Mets feel about Francisco.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Look, yeah, I think it goes back talk about the meeting.
I mean we did a lot on that that forty
eight hours trying to talk you off the led, saying
how great this was of a guy stepping forward and
Grimace obviously, you know, like nobody celebrated the arrival and
birth of the Grimace myth more than we did here
at Fox Sports Radio. But for Lindor, you talk about
(11:18):
teams in the past, and you'd have to go back
and look at personnel as to when you're expected to
step forward as a quote unquote leader and not and
how you are a leader vocal or not, because we've
had those stories through the years, like oh, yeah, that's
the guy we looked look to, and we talked to
and whatever else. He's just not the loud guy. Right.
We've had it with quarterbacks, We've had it with defensive
(11:40):
leaders in the NFL. You have guys in the NBA
that are just they're the workhorses, right, and they get
after it in Major League Baseball. Go back to that
Yankee team you talked about with Alex Rodriguez. There was
no chance in hell he was supposed to be the
leader of that team, right, So it was how does
he fit in? Does he go through and how much
your egos managed clubhouse and do guys subvert, you know,
(12:03):
whatever some of those instincts may be to make sure
that things keep moving along. And for Lindor and the
met when they needed someone to step up and say, hey,
we're a lot better than this, he was that guy, right,
So he gets the nod. I don't know who else
on that squad could have, right, because Diaz wasn't doing
you know, he didn't have Timmy l Trumpet with him
(12:24):
every turn. Alonso went through the funk as you talked about, Well.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
He's also in his last year, like he might not
even be a met you know, and your finger closer
to be your guy, like you need the guy.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Not sorry, but there's.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Either going to be an ace or it's got to
be the veteran guy. But like for a lot making
you'd like it to be him. Well, sure you'd like
it to be But like Alonzo in his final year,
he could have been the guy trying to rally everybody.
It could have been very easily. He's like, look, I've
been here all this time. I'm not going out with
a whimper. Instead it's Lindor and he steps up and
to your point, shows the photo thing. By the way,
(12:56):
I love in the NFL and in Major League Baseball,
in every league, we go out of our way to
stomp on logos and of our opponents. And then I
watch all these cool supercuts of international soccer and these
guys are basically doing parkour not to go anywhere near
a logo or trace of a logo in locker rooms
(13:17):
and around the pitch. Truly kind of interesting.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Lave from the
ti IRAQ dot Com Studios. An incredible night in Major
League Baseball. The Mets pede Alonzo. It's a three run
home We're in the top of the ninth th inning
to turn a two nothing Mets deficit into a three
to two lead. They beat the Brewers four to two.
They move onto the NLDS and I don't know, I
don't know that I'll have anything left. I really this week,
(13:44):
like I need tomorrow oft have I got Syracuse thrown
it against UNLV like Friday night? I need a couple
of days, Dude, tomorrow will be fine because you know Syracuse.
So bring you back down to even that's true, Yeah,
maybe a little below, depending on how badly it goes,
and then you can rev right back up and your
and your college your college football will.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Be done on a Friday night. Okay, right, let's fly
done on a Friday night. That's what I used to
go from there.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
I never mind those like I had a weekend like
that last week, like, hey, you know, the the Mets are,
the Jets are on Monday night and Syracuse is offen
Like I got a stress free f I gotta I
got a sports stress free weekend here I.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Got, I'm I got. I'm just just watch games and
put my feet up.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
This is awesome, I think, got felt. I mean, look,
you got the Bulls doing intros and all their pressers.
You got the Blackhawks starting to do their preseason work,
getting worked as they did, showing you that. The other night,
the White Sox season was whimpering to the end. So
that was that was finished, and Northwestern had the week off,
(14:46):
and then the Bears actually won a game. So all
of it was good for me. Uh, just to reiterate
for the one hundred times Pete Alonso first player in
Major League baseball history, you know, because we see this
every night, go ahead home run while trailing in the
ninth inning or later of a winter take all postseason game.
Euro Romanticism, the polar bear in baseball.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Edie knew it as soon as he hit it. And
what I knew it. I watched he hit it, he yelled,
I knew it.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Oh it was it was just an unbelo. Again, I
was calm. I was on and I can't get over
how calm I was. Again, A lot of it was
acceptance because I thought, Okay, maybe it's a double play
that's coming. But I thought, Okay, no, these are the
guys you want up. Okay, this is what I want
without that here.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
But that's just it, right. You go into the ninth
and you're like, all right, we we live or die
with our best and there's something to that versus all right,
seven eight nine. Do we have a pinch hitter? You know?
Can Strawberry walk out? You know, out of the dugout?
Do we have anybody.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Strawberry hit a home run? Okay?
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Coach, Okay, that's what you call good Managing.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the
tire rack dot Com Studios.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
We'll have more on this game coming up here.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Reaction from Pat Murphy Pete Alonzo meeting them now after
his big home run. But I'm telling you, man, I
got goosebumps watching them indoor video.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
It's just so great. It's so great.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Coming up next, Speaking of great, are we about to
have an unbelievably great ending on Thursday Night Football? The
Bucks and the Falcons a Buck twenty one to go
in the fourth quarter, the Falcons will be getting the
football back no timeouts. Kirk Cousins at three eighty nine
and three touchdowns a field goal away from overtime. Keep
(16:29):
it right here, Jason and Mike. You are listening to

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
The NFL has said, oh okay, so you on drama
and great stuff major League Baseball? Yeah okay, yeah, you
had your last hour. Here's where we sit right now.
One second to go in the fourth quarter, the Falcons
will be attempting a fifty two yard field goal.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Young Way Cool try to tie this game and send
it to overtime.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Kirk Cousins completes a pass and gets the ball spiked
with one second left on the clock. Little bit of
hometown clog me a little bu It looked like they
got the spike down with one second left to go,
Young Waykup comes out for the field goal. The play
clock ticks down to zero and you're thinking, oh, that's
(18:06):
a penalty.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
They're gonna move it back.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Turns out the play clock was started early, so they
figured that controversy out Raheem Morris I thought was gonna
have some kind of attack on the field when they
were gonna move him back five yards. However, they realized, okay,
we didn't start the play clock at the right time.
They were able to reset the clock and Young Wayku
is good. From fifty two yards. It is thirty to thirty.
(18:32):
We are going to overtime in Atlanta. A great drive by.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
The Falcons with no timeouts.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Kirk Cousins now up over four hundred and forty yards
passing on the night he is thirty nine out of
fifty five, and now we have.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Overtime between the Bucks and the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
Now they did get the delay of game, doesn't matter.
Young way Kup for the second straight week comes up big.
Remember he did have a miss earlier in the game,
and even after a penalty gave him an extra chance
at and he missed that one as well. So on
that there's a little bit of controversy brewing over a
play where there was a holding call on barton second
(19:11):
and thirteen at the Atlanta thirty one. On the prior possession,
Bucky Irving got ridden down like he was at the rodeo.
In other words, guy grabbed his face mask and bowled
him straight to the ground, square in the middle of
the field. No call, but the holding call gets enforced,
and as we know, holding calls will kill a lot
(19:31):
of drives. You have the subsequent punt and now this
drama as we head to overtime. So the officials making
their way into the game once again.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
There we go, good Joe, good after we're getting ready
for overtime again. We're going we're going to overtime now.
And what Kirk Cousins has done. We spent some time
last hour talking about Baker Mayfield. Now let's get into
Kirk for a little bit here. He is having an
incredible night throwing the foot. Okay, London and Mooney are
having great nights. London's go one hundred and thirty yards receiving,
(20:01):
Mooney's got one hundred and five yards receiving. Even Kyle
Pitts is catching passes. Yeah, remember when Kyle pitch is
gonna be the greatest tight end in the history of
the game.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Is generational, He was transformative, he was everything. Yeah, but
today he's at least got seven catches. You know who's
still done nothing? Hejon. He was supposed to be the
master of the universe.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
V John's got sixty yards rushing, He's caught three passes.
I mean, look that, when you're throwing the ball fifty
five times, there's not a paying time for run the football.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Hey, first or second overall pick fantasy foot. But they
don't care about your fifty throwing times. They don't care
about that. He got ten points. That's what I'm expecting
out of my second flex spot.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Man, you have overtime. We have overtime coming up. Now
you have chance for more points here, which.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Means he's gonna keep throwing it.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
You have more.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Hey, Kirk Cousins does not care about your fantasy team,
Mike Carbon, Well, he does.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Because he's actually the quarterback on one of my fantasy
He does not care. He loved me today. Drake London
also had left this game for a short time in
the second quarter as well, went on into the old
tent before coming back out. He's got ten catches. Just
an amazing game overall. And who knew that Baker Mayfield
had the wheels that he does. He's got forty two
(21:16):
rushing yards.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Man.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Now, as far as Cousins goes, he absolutely needed this game.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Right.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
We talked about this going into the season. Whatever the
money Kirk Cousins is getting from the Falcons, he is
a bridge quarterback to get to Michael Pennick Junior. Right,
it doesn't matter what he's getting paid. All of that
is irrelevant. In fact, any time I see a take
from someone says, well, he's going to start all year, No,
you just don't even I don't know what you know
about football. If he starts out poorly, Michael Pennick shooter
(21:46):
is going to get a chance, right, He's a first
round pick that looked really good all summer long. The
desire to see him on the field when he has
won the team over with how he played in the preseason,
it's going to be immense. And through four games, Kirk
Cousins has been.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
Right.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
He had a pretty good game against the Eagles right
on Monday Night, week two of the season, right was
in national television.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
So hey, okay, Kirk Cousins did he did? You know?
Speaker 1 (22:10):
That was pretty good? He kind of saved his job
for a couple of weeks here, but then he had
a bad week against Kansas City and a worst week
last week against the Saints, only bailed out by the
fact as team won, they had no offensive touchdowns. He
had a horrible game and but they still won. But
Cousins has not been good this season. He has had
three awful games and one good one. This game tonight
(22:34):
saves his job again for another couple of weeks, Like
his game against Philadelphia Monday night, week two after they
lost to the Steelers to start the season. That saved
his job for another two three weeks. Right, we talked
about at the tip, Hey Cousins saved his job? Well,
you know what that was coming up empty again, Hey,
Kirk is not the same guy. He's not throwing He's
not throwing the football downfield enough. What is happening well
(22:56):
tonight he has now saved that job for the next
few weeks. Right now, now, Kirk Cousins I think will
easily get into mid season. Before that, potentially you could
hear coming up again. Hey, is Kirk still a guy
we're gonna go forward with? Or look, if the Falcons
start losing, they may want to see Penix no matter what.
But right now, what Kirk Cousins has done is he
(23:16):
has extended his time as a starting quarterback probably through
week eight, week nine ish of the season because he
has been absolutely electric tonight. He is in sync with
all his big playmakers again, turning Kyle Pitts into the
tight end we thought he was going to be like
eight years ago, Like this is Kyle Pitch is gonna
be so good when he does it. Boy, Kyle Pitch
(23:38):
is kind of a bus Nope, not tonight. Seven catches
eighty eight yards. Kirk Cousins absolutely needed this game more
than anybody else, and he's getting it right now.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, I mean you get a w here and obviously
we're watching this unfold nine minutes remaining in overtime. They're
attending to London after another reception. You're now in three
and two and you're tied with Tampa for the division lead.
With the tiber they'll meet again, and I think it's
three or four weeks right the end of October, they'll
be at Tampa Bay again. Stupid schedule makers. Let's get
(24:08):
this out of the way before the first half of
the season ends. Dopes, but as well as most of
your division games, you gotta have it. There's got to
be some balance here anyway, the point being that you've
got to stretch here at Carolina next, then you've got
Seattle at home, the aforementioned game against the Buccaneers, on
the road Dallas and whatever they are at that point
(24:29):
to start November, and then on the road at New Orleans.
So some winnable games, a lot of division games, a
lot of opportunity to make Hay here and playing against
some banged up defenses. So the other thing is you're
still rounding into shape with you know, the continuity and
consistency with this squad, right, new team, new offense with
(24:50):
Zach Robinson, and really starting to find that timing.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
And as we say this, Kirk Cousins is saving his job.
Yet we're going to overtime. It is over. It is
over in Atlanta. The Falcons win it thirty six thirty.
Kirk Cousins throws it was probably about a thirty five
yard touchdown. I want to say to Cadaryl Hodge, who
(25:16):
had caught a couple of passes, I'll call it one
pass earlier in the game. He outruns everybody in the
five yard field. He catches a slant that looks like, Okay,
this is gonna put the Falcons in field goal range, right.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
The Falcons get the.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Snap to start over time, they get the ball to
start over time, and they're moving down the field.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
He throws a slant in the middle of the field
to Hodge, who catches it, and it looks like, oh,
this is gonna be a first down. They're going to
be inside the thirty yard line, and he just runs
away from everybody in the middle of the field in
for the game winning touchdown and incredibly electric moment. Right now,
The Falcons win at thirty six thirty. Kirk Cousins forty
(25:57):
two for fifty eight five one hundred and nine yards
and four touchdowns. Take that ped Alonzo. You think you
of the night on Kirk Cousins. I have that room
under the stairs of my house that I gotta put
footballs in five hundred and nine yards passing.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
You beat that Pedallnzo.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Do we get to do a ceremony where that game
ball gets put in that little uh, I don't know
cabin under the stairs that he's built out there.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
I think you might have.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Maybe it's delivered by Daniel Radcliffe as a nice nod
to Harry Potter, or it comes sliding through a mailbox.
But yeah, prime time captain Kirk getting it done in
front of the home crowd. They celebrated Matt Ryan on
his legacy and career at halftime, gave a speech and
now you've got an absolute pandemonium. Just a cool scene
(26:45):
in the post game, everybody rocking along and Kirk leading
the way.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
It is the fifteenth most passing yards in a game
in NFL history.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
I did this math really with us.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
It is the fifth fifteenth most yards passing in a game.
You have fourteen players who have thrown from more than
five hundred and nine yards. Still the leader, Norm Van
Brocklin back in nineteen nineteen fifty one, back in the
way they threw that. Yes, apparently they ran an offense
that was way ahead of its sign No Van Brocklin
for the Rams in a win, through for five hundred
(27:20):
and fifty four yards onto twenty seven completions.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Right, how about that?
Speaker 4 (27:26):
That is still the recer.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Matt shawb made a big run at it about about
ten or twelve years ago in a game against the Jaguars,
and we've had a few games since then. Joe Burrow
was up at five twenty five a couple of years ago.
He was really close. But this is the fifteenth highest
total in a game in NFL history.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Tying him with Vince Ferragamo.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
How about that?
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Also through for five hundred and nine yards on December
twenty sixth, nineteen eighty two, in a game against Mike Harmon.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Bears, the Chicago Bears. There you go. It all comes
for circle, buddy, It.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
All comes back to me on the downside of things.
Is that what you're trying to say, sad sack existence, Yeah,
that's what it was. Hodge not to be confused with
Hobbs and Shaw.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
No hog no, no, no, no, no, I.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Mean Hodge was also I mean Hodges was on Criminal Minds,
so we could do that.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Oh you know, I actually saw him once, Jimpson. No, no, no, no,
Alvis Hodge. That's one of my favorite celebrity sightings of
all time was Alvis Hodge because he was Voodoo on
Voodoo Tatum on Friday Night Lights. He was a quarterback
that came in that was gonna take over, like he
came in from another It's like it was a great
(28:39):
storyline where his he had to change schools and he
was really highly recruited and they grab him like as
a mercenary quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
He's gonna play this season.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
And he doesn't get along with the coach and he
runs his own plays and everything else. And he was
so good in this role, like he wouldn't do what
Kyle Chandler wanted to do. And like he he calls
an audible that winds up running running for a touchdown,
and Kyle Chandler yells at him.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
And goes, we run the plays I call and and he.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Just looks at him really calmly and goes scoreboard, coach, scoreboard.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
He was so big.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
So he's so good and that you know, He's had
a great career. Altue Hodge after that, and I saw
him on Venice Beach like not too long after this,
and I walked by him, and I wanted to go.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
I got Voodoo Fever because that was a big line
for him.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
His nickname was Voodoo and the Carards all say I
got Voodoo Fever because he was so good. I was
gonna do that. And I'm like, I I can't do that.
I'm I'm forty years old. I can't. I capt forty
and he's twenty five. I can't walk by him and
go I got Voo Doo fall do it.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
I couldn't do it. No, come on, man, your parn Hollywood.
They were on their every night. It's it's, you know,
theater in the mind that we bring here. I mean,
come on, I just took us down the deep dark
path of criminal minds and hodging and everything else. So man,
we got craziness. But Hodge would I mean, like you said,
turn down the term jets there and there's already like
(30:03):
fifteen memes of Captain Kirk from Tonight making the rounds
on the interwebs.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Wow, I mean, what an incredible moment. He just runs
away from everybody.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Five oh nine.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Who man, I'll tell you so you got Hodge, got Cousins,
He got a lots of a lot of heroes tonight,
Mike harm he do have lots of heroes.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
You know.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
How's we got?
Speaker 4 (30:22):
What else?
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Steve de Seger, Oh, he's gonna tell us what's treading?
Speaker 1 (30:27):
And I guarantee you he's very mad at me because
I guarantee you he had some kind of stat about
five hundred yard passers in NFL history. No, no, what
about the great researcher Sarah Langs, I ever said that
about it.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
This is the most by any passer in the NFL
this season. We know that, and they did say for
Kirk Cousins, this is his career high of five hundred
nine yards passing and that game winner in overtime forty
five yard touchdown passed to Cadaryl Hodge. Hodge with the
last forty yards on his own after he spun away
from the defender and to the end zone. Atlanta beats
(31:02):
Tampa Bay in overtime thirty six to thirty. Kirk Cousins
four touchdown passes, one interception, Drake London twelve catches, one
hundred and fifty.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Four yards and a score.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
And for those who did not play Darnell Mooney in fantasy,
in the game for Atlanta today, he was targeted sixteen
times and had nine receptions for one hundred five yards
and two tds in this win. A combined forty nine
first downs in this game, nearly nine hundred yards combined
in this game. The Falcons are three and two, the
(31:36):
Bucks fall to three and two. Baker mayfield three touchdown
passes in the first half, two to Mike Evans, and
let's not forget why we had overtime. The Falcons tied
it after spiking the ball with one second left and
getting the field goal team out there, tying it on
a fifty two yard field goal on the final play
of regulation. The Chiefs place wide receiver Rashid Rice on
(31:57):
intra reserve. He'll have further testing on his knee next
week after the swelling goes down. Kansas City running back
Isaiah Pacheco is already on IR as his wide receiver.
Hollywood Brown Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was limited in
practice today with a bad shoulder. Texans running back Joe
Mixon did not practice due to his bad ankle Colt's
running back Jonathan Taylor misspractice with an ankle injury. Colts
(32:19):
quarterback Anthony Richardson was limited today with the oblique injury.
Running back of the Giants Devin Singletary did not practice
groin injury. Giants wide receiver Molik Neighbors did not practice
due to his concussion, and for Washington, running back Brian
Robinson miss practice with a bad knee. Washington running back
Austin Eckler did practice fully after his concussion. To Major
(32:41):
League Baseball, the Mets are still alive. They scored four
runs and the top of the ninth at Milwaukee to
eliminate the Brewers, ending the Wildcard round with a four
to two win. Pete Alonzo a three run homer in
the top of the ninth. Jose Kintada the Mets six
scoreless innings as a starter, no decision is ninety four pitches.
He set the way the win, eventually to closer Edwin Diaz,
(33:03):
who pitched in the seventh and eighth innings. The Phillies
host their Division Series Game one this Saturday against the
Mets on Fox TV four pm Eastern Time. The Reds
are hiring Terry Francona as manager who stepped down in
Cleveland a year ago. Caitlyn Clark is the WNBA Rookie
of the Year.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Back to you, Thank you. Steve had all this stuff planned.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
We'll talk about Caitlyn Clark winning Rookie of the Year
and all this great. You know, Sam Darnold saying some
amazing great about the Jets today. Antonio Pierce is never
going to be allowed to coach in college again. And
then the Mets and the Falcons happen, and look what
I look what happens?
Speaker 3 (33:39):
He here you go. Some of the tweets that are
starting to flow to are great because some of them
are roasting Kirk's former team in the process.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon coming up next.
We'll have more on the biggest, most emotional stories of the.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Night right here.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
It is an unbelievable Thursday night. Keep it here Jason
and Mike. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirack dot Com studios, where we just
watched an absolute thriller.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
No no, not the Mets. We'll get to them in
a bit.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
The Falcons in overtime beat the Buccaneers thirty six to
thirty Kirk Cousins over five hundred yards four touchdowns, and
and let me just say this really fast, because you
know sometimes I just shake my head. In one of
my fantasy leagues this this week, I was trying to
try because I have Zach Moss and Chase Brown right,
(34:47):
and I'm like, okay, I'm gonna go in on Chase Brown.
I think he's gonna wind up keeping the gig long term.
And Zack Moss has another cup. I gotta trade him
while he's hot, and I'm trying to get I was
trying to get Jackson Smith the Jigma from from one
of the guys in the in my league for Zach Moss,
and I'm like, okay, I'll give you somebody else for
Smith the Jig, but all this stuff, and he keeps
trying to give me darn Old Mooney and I'm like,
(35:08):
I don't want Darna Mooney.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
I don't want it.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Right, Like, Darnal Mooney is having a nice start, but
the guy's moved around a lot, is he really? I mean,
he's not that great. I'm like, no, I want a
little more. Zach Moss is a running back. He's got
a little bit more value than that, at least for now.
So I said, no, don't want to do it. Darnol
Mooney tonight nine for one oh five and two touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (35:27):
I would head over thirty fantasy points.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
No, Mooney's only on his second team. He's a former
thousand yard receiver with amy ketches for the twenty twenty
one Bears.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
That's a long time by twenty twenty one A long No.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
I get that, though, but just in terms of being
well traveled. It's only the Bears, so it only seemed
like he'd been lost for a decade.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Like no, no, no, no, I don't want him. I'm like,
I'm not even gonna I wouldn't even start him.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Now he's like, okay, now, now he's turning into a
much started fantasy.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
He had nine catches for one hundred and five yards
and two touchdowns coming last week, right, oh boy, or
that's this week? Sorry? Coming into the week, what did
he have a total of six catches three for eighty
eight against the Eagles, with the touchdown that I guess
is the one that you hang your hat on going
what might be. I really would have anticipated a little
(36:20):
better effort upfront from the Bucks here, but gig credit
to the Atlanta offensive line. Kirk with his fifteen yard
drops to get out of harm's way, I think like
I'll a slingshot action with the arm. By the way,
he was worth thirty five points in Fantasy tonight was Kirk.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
Cousins man five hundred yards passing.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Sometimes sports, you know when you listen to the radio
and you listen to guys like we try to entertain
you and give you great takes and you know, try
to do everything for you. But sometimes sports is just
about emotion, right, Sometimes about emotion what you see in
what happens on a night and and you think, I'm
going to talk about the Mets here, but I'm not,
because there is nobody, there is no fan base getting
(37:03):
more of their money's worth this year than the Atlanta Falcons.
You think about their three wins that they have, Okay,
they beat the Eagles on the last gasp drive that
Kirk Cousins has all the way down the field on
the touchdown pass to Drake London with just nine seconds
left to go. Right, an incredible comeback and they score
(37:23):
in the game winning drive. Okay, last week they struggle offensively,
but what happens they're losing With a minute left to go,
Young Wayku drills a fifty yard field goal to win
the game twenty six to twenty four. And now you
have tonight where down late in the fourth quarter, they
spike the ball with one second left. They take a
delay of game penalty, moving at back five yards doesn't matter,
(37:45):
Young Wayku still drills it from fifty one yards to
for US overtime, and then in overtime, Kirk Cousins finds Hodge,
who runs away from everybody for a forty five yard touchdown.
There is nobody getting their money's worth in the NFL
so far this year, more than Falcons fans. It's not
about just winning and looking at Oh that's great, Yes,
oh the Viking. Yes, the Vikings are beating teams they
(38:05):
look like No. You talk about every week getting your
money's worth, and this is what you are getting from
the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
You even had the incredible ending against the Chiefs now
where they should.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Have won, except we don't call pass interference on the
final drive against the Chiefs like they come down to
the final drive deep in Kansas City territory and almost win.
I'll tell you, man, there's no doubt the most fun
team to root for this year the Falcons. I mean
we knew they were coming, they were gonna be good,
and and you know, Kirk Cousins potentially was gonna add
them another level. But no, man, you talk about fun,
(38:36):
Nobody has been better than the Falcons this year. Nobody
better route.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Yeah, I mean you just go back to Week one, though,
I mean narrow loss in a in a grind out
game against Pittsburgh, everybody trying to feel it out in
Pittsburgh at the time. I was like, wow, what a
terrible lot, Like, well, no, not not quite. That defense
is gonna be for real. And here they are going
into Week five still rolling along right. So yes, obviously
the game against Indianapolis was odd and Joe Flacco was
(39:00):
still elite. But to your point, they also get the
best bang for their buck because you know what they
do with concession prices. I mean, they take care of
you in terms of keeping costs down. Now you can't
go to you know, the fast food place in the
Dome on a Sunday, right, that's close because of the
ideology of the the owners of it all. But you
(39:21):
know you can get two dollars hot dogs, I mean,
get after it. So you get the bang for your buck.
And you're riding the lightning with a team that is
taking you into any every drive. Right, six point loss,
week one crazy win against Philly, the five point loss
to Casey. As you say, flags and how things are adjudicated,
we could talk about. And then the excitement of this game,
(39:43):
no question about. Now you're on the road at Carolina,
Captain Kirk, let's go.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
I mean for last minute and now an overtime win.
And and you forgot the best part. You bury the lead.
And you're gonna be mad when I tell you this.
You get all of this. And a lot of fans
got the Arthur Blank cups. They did the ring them
on it, They did Arthur Blank cups. You know what,
I still haven't gotten our shipmate yet. I'm still a
(40:09):
little salty. It still hasn't come. You ordered that like
a week and a half ago. Mail has been slow, man.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
I got a couple. I got no, but I got.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
A couple of things because of the storms and everything
that went on down in the Southeast that I don't
even know if I'm ever gonna see it. Maybe the
Arthur Blank cups are part of that.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
More on This Unreal Night on the Falcons, on the Mets,
and more.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Keep it right here Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio,
