Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
First of all, now the Eagles packers is over. We
can all watch Northwestern and Duke at I mean I
guess you can. I mean, hey, I get he look
listen live sports Churning and you get FS one. I
know that for a fact. You get FS one. Everybody
that's FS one. You can watch that game. It's okay.
You want to see two smart teams play football, you
(01:09):
are getting Northwestern and Duke right, not get a lot
of points, but you're seeing two smart teams.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
It's a tough, hard fought, nose to the grindstone kind
of game six stand still in I mean wizardry. It's leveled, right.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Oh sure, whatever you say, buddy, I'll just it's Friday night.
I love you. I'll just.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Buddy, that's check.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
And we had a rabbit on the field that they
were chasing around. You got thirty mile an hour wins,
you got potential tornadoes before the night is done. Let's go,
my brother and says hello from good from beautiful Levenston.
So all good, you saying whatever you want man.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
So yes, the Eagles hold off the Packers thirty four
to twenty nine. We'll get to the Eagle side of
this coming up in a few minutes. But the big
story coming out of this Jordan Love injured on the
third to last play of the game when the Packers
were trying desperately to get downfield potentially for a last
gas pass from maybe the thirty yard line, maybe getting
(02:15):
the end zone and win, on a play in which
his ankle looked like it got caught on the turf. Yep,
yeah again, I say turf and every yep, yeah, yeah,
well twist.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
It around a little bit right, kind of had a
one guy hanging on to him as he kind of planted,
and another guy comes back over the top to kind
of twist the body a little bit.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
So it's tough, man, it's a tough one to watch.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
He's trying to avoid a sack and he pitches the
ball back to Josh Jacobs because time is running out.
There's about fifteen seconds left to have the ball near midfield.
Jacob is able to run out of bounds, but Love
gets turned around, goes down. He is in all kinds
of pain. You saw him right away. It looked awful.
You couldn't really see what happened because his foot kind
(02:59):
of dis appears under the pile when he gets when
he gets grabbed, but he limps off the field with
a lot of help. Now the good news, and again
I don't know, I'm not a doctor, but the fact
that he seemed to be walking pretty powerfully off the field,
if that could be said, because he's helped off the
field with two trainers, one on either side of him,
(03:22):
very gingerly is left foot walking off the field. Then
when he was walking off the field after the game
was over. He looked to be walking more powerfully at
Josh Jacobs and a trainer helping him, and it looked
like it didn't look like it was that bad. I mean,
who knows, you're wondering for a high ankle sprain. It
could be something like that, but I think we're okay
worrying about a break or something of that ilk for
(03:44):
Jordan Love. So at least he looked a little more
powerful walking off the field than he did just five
minutes before. But again, we have to wait and see,
because hey, here's Jordan Love limping off missing the end
of the game, Malik Willis comes out to throw a
Hail Mary. He slips and falls on the turf and
as a result, he can't get his pass off and
the Eagles are able to win the game thirty four
(04:05):
to twenty nine. The field is going to be the
topic of conversation coming off this game because the field
was in horrendous shape, right, And I don't mean the
field was in horrendous shape as if they didn't take
care of it as it because they didn't want whatever
it is. But as Mike talked about a few minutes ago.
As you talked about. This is normally the soccer fields
(04:26):
are done differently. This is a field in Brazil, and
we watched the both Eagles and Packers players slip and
fall the entire game. It's not like they got used
to the field. They slipped and fell from play one
to the final play of the game. They were slipping
when it was when the play was, game was first
going on, or I got it used to the field. Nope,
(04:47):
never got used to the field. We saw many big,
seventy eighty yard touchdowns because defensive players slipped and fell.
I don't know why. Teams just didn't go deep every
single play because all you do is catch one pass,
have one receiver stop cut guy would fall on his
ass and it was a touchdown. So we saw it
from the beginning of the game to the end. And
I really I can't get over the fact that the
(05:10):
NFL still plays all these games and they and they
get all the money and the headlines. We're traveling, we're
doing all this stuff. We're going to Brazil to play games,
We're going to London. We're gonna go here and do
something crazy for the field in the Super Bowl, and
the field itself winds up in such bad shape. It
puts the players and their health at stake, because that's
really what it went. Every time I watch a players
slip and I'm going, oh my god, oh my god,
(05:31):
what are we doing? And for the Eagles have to
be saying they did it to us in the Super
Bowl two years ago? Right, the Eagles in chief Super
Bowl two years ago was man. The Eagles were Both
teams are slipping and fall in the entire time. How
does the NFL not at least that was under the
NFL's more of their control because the game was in
the United States. This one, I can kind of see
a little bit that. Okay, it was in Brazil, but
(05:52):
you got to make sure this field is ready to
go for NFL teams to play on man, because the
optic off of this is awful. Are we gonna see, Hey,
greedy NFL wants all kinds of money playing on an
unsafe field. And here's Jordan Love who had to get
hurt for this to happen. And maybe Jordan Loves because
Jordan Love got hurt, will never see a game like
this again. That's the optic that we're going to see
(06:15):
coming off this game. Here's the NFL. They don't care
about player safety, they don't care about anything else. They're
catching a big check. Godella is smiling in his in
his seat in the game in Brazil, and we watch
Jordan Love limp off the field and watch players slip
and fall the entire game. That's the optic coming off
this game. And that's a really bad one for the NFL,
but still they do it. It's not a lot of
(06:37):
money to fix up a field, to make sure a
field is ready. You had how many months to get
rid ready for this game? You knew you were playing
this game for seven months. You had a lot of
time to get this going to NFL specifications. And if
teams can't, if places can't do that, then you do
really stop putting the players at risk when they're playing
on a field where they can't even stand up on.
If they even if they slipped from the first quarter
(06:58):
and then they figured it out, I would say, Okay,
everything is fine. Yes the first quarter is stunk, but
all right, everything turned out. No, they slipped all the
way beginning of the end. There was no time where
anything was under control used to it, none of that
at all. It was just slipping, slipping, slipping the entire time.
And that's a bad optic, it's a bad reality, and
I can already see it coming up for the NFL.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Yeah, five hundred thousand dollars fee allegedly paid to the
soccer club that owns the stadium there in Sa Paulo, Brazil.
You talked about, you know, London, Munich. I mean, go
back and read any game breakdown from the international slots
of the last several years. You're always gonna find one
or two lines from someone complaining about the field, turf,
(07:38):
or the conditions at midfield or around the end zones,
or whatever the case may be. It's just a consistent
issue that we're seeing in these international games. We read
the JJ Watt quote earlier talking about turf and you know,
built for speed and everything else the soccer stadiums that
(07:59):
you're at. So without a complete overhaul, I guess you're
not You're not going to change that. Suddenly you go
and find the sodfather and get it down properly. But
in the interim, now you're you're wishing and open that
nothing big comes out of this Jordan Love injury, because
it just becomes, uh, the bad headline that you thought
(08:20):
you were escaping from Brazil, and I don't. I've never
been to Brazil. Like don't you know. I know it
got unfairly portrayed by by a lot of folks with
big narratives flowing out. Doesn't mean it doesn't have its issues,
just like every other city and country across the globe.
But you know, it looked like the the NFL for
(08:41):
for all of the talk leading into the game, all right,
we're gonna get a shootout, a little bit of bad
footing that will complain about to a degree and hope
that the the defenses are better when back on you know,
American soil blah blah blah. But now you've got one
of the game's rising stars. That part of the injury
comes down to the conditions of the field, and that's
(09:03):
the worst case scenario. So it was good that Goodell
was in attendance, so he got to assuming he stayed
to the final whistle. He watched it live and in
living color. Because this is one of your premier franchises.
They travel about as well as anybody. Go back and
look at all the videos leading up to the game time,
all the big tourist points in Brazil. What do you have,
(09:25):
just hordes of Packer fans not to be outdone. You
know the Eagle fans were there in full of fact,
no question, but you know this is this is one
of the premier franchises, historic franchises. So the spotlight was
a little bit brighter in this next phase.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
With Jordan Love under center.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Here's the play by play. This is the one that
injured Jordan Love, knocked him out of the game. With
just a few seconds left against the Eagles.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Love steps up, throws it back and it's taken by
the running back and out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Jacob says.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
He races to the left sidelines in front of the
Philadelphia bench, out of bounds at the forty seven yard
line of the Eagles. We have five seconds remaining, and
down on the field is that Jordan Love and he
is down flat on his back.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
He was hit as he lateraled.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
That ball back to the running back Josh Jacobs and
now everybody out to have a look. Doctor McKenzie is there,
the athletic trainers. But Jordan Loved down flat on his back.
Flee Engel the trainer over there to have a look.
Doctor McKenzie down on one knee. Now he's up and
(10:36):
a round of applause from the crowd is being helped off.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
So there was Packers Radio Network. Oh, by the way,
I love the fact a bit of a nod here
that when you know the name of the team doctor,
who is doctor McKenzie. I like that, doctor McKenzie, because
I gotta tell you all the jetskins, I never know
the names of any of the doctor. They never say, oh,
here's the medical training staff, Oh, doctor McKenzie, like I
was waiting for, say, doctor McKenzie. Really nice guy. Golf
handicap is a lot. Uh really enjoys horror movies. Boy man,
(11:02):
what an interesting guy. He's been had a local practice
in Green Bay for the last twenty five years.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Yeah, you know because you know my name. Yeah, but
you know because I'm the morbid guy. Remember the surname
of the priest. And eleanor Rigby gets down on one knee,
Father mackenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he
walks from the grave.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
So here we got.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
Doctor McKenzie going and working on the injured Jordan Love
And the first thing I hear is the the string
section of eleanor Rigby playing in the background during that call.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I look at all the lonely people. That's just brutal.
You took. You just took that. We took a nice
wholesome story. Hey, look at the doctor. Ever like, no, no, no,
I'm thinking about how dark it got with eleanor Rigby.
That's what I'm gonna do here on a Friday night, dude.
I'm sorry the White Sox lost again. Come on, man,
let's let's be at you know, Friday Friday. We will
(11:59):
be a little bit more positive.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Tell me that was a good content. Yeah, no, it was.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
It was. And I say more positives. I say, what
an awful optic for the evil NFL. All they are
is out for money, right, I just changed.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
We got the over Barkley was great, we got big players,
Read with a huge game, Brown with a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
All of these things.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
But the greedy dirty rot in NFL.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Dare you.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I just went I cut on a dime on that,
Unlike the players of the field tonight who'd have the
dime and slipped and fell. I just cut on a
dime on that. For you, man, I'll tell you well.
I mean, look, it's it's I and we're gonna get
some kind of uh nothing quote from Roger Goodell, where
it's gonna be. Of course, we take player safety the
most serious of any other leagues. We had a comprehensive
(12:47):
review of the field and it was blah blah blah
blah blah, and hopefully Jordan Love is okay, you're gonna
you're gonna get it, because he's.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Gonna dismiss it.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
As look at the contact on Jordan Love during that play,
not that he caught got caught up up in his
in the turf as he went to turn.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
No, no, no, it's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
You could see there's a player at his feet and
another that makes contact.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
As he pitches the ball. It's gonna be completely excused,
which it should not be.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah, look you're gonna get a nothing burger, cuting nothing burger.
You're gonna get a nothing burger comment from him, and
it's it's look, it's just another another bit of evidence
to say, Hey, when the NFL talks about player safety,
how much do they really mean it?
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Right?
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Like, yeah, all the talk about the guardian caps where
them is gonna stop the concussions, stop this. The fields
are terrible and we've not seen anything to help the
Have you seen have you heard any the last couple
of years when you would all the complaints about MetLife
Stadium and when the Super Bowl was bad for the
Eagles and the and the and the Chiefs two years ago,
all the now this field tonight. Have you heard one
comment where the NFL is saying, hey, we gotta get
(13:51):
on this to make sure all the fields are the
best possible conditions they can be to play. No, you
haven't heard that at all. Just got yeah, boy, turf
at MetLife Stadium. Every team comes out of met Life
Stadium saying I can't believe we played there. I'm happy
that we come out of that with no injuries. That's
every team that plays at MetLife Stadium. And oh, by
the way, two teams play there, So it's double jeopardy
for a team every week that's gotta go in because
(14:13):
two teams play there. They've not tried to fit, they
not spent money, they're not doing that. And and yet
this is where we're still at. Yeah, the field, it's
just the field. What do you what do you want
from this? Right? Like, like, I'm hoping Jordan Love is
okay and that he's able to play or not. But
if he's out and he winds up missing a lot
of time, it's a high ankle sprain. Suddenly that's you know,
that's always four to six weeks, which is always your
(14:34):
first thought after you hear the words high ankle spraying
should be four to six weeks, Right, you always.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Hear that that's four to six week.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Yeah, I mean, look, I mean the Packers season their
trendy super Bowl pick. They got big time Super Bowl
dreams and might be over before it starts, depending because
Malik Willis. You saw he don't he was even ready
to come in the game at the end, so.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I saw it up.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
And then he can't get a pass off on a
hail Mary. No, that's one thousand and two, one thousand
and chuck.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
The ball.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
The field is so important the two things that sports
tend to mess around with more than anything, and they
don't need to, and I mean all sports, this is
not just NFL. Is that they don't care so much
about the field or the ball, right, like the ball
is that?
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (15:15):
The ball?
Speaker 1 (15:15):
What do we care? What do we care about the ball?
Speaker 3 (15:17):
Right?
Speaker 1 (15:17):
When the NBA decided we're gonna put a new back,
why do we new basketball. No, that's stupid, that's just dumb.
Why we don't need a new ball soccer at the
every time at the World Cup, we're debuting a new ball.
Why are we debuting a new ball? All the players
they hate the ball. I can't kick it, I can't
do this. Why do the ball in the field? Is like, yeah,
we can do whatever we want with it. Meanwhile, the
two things most germane to the game are the field
(15:39):
and the ball. Yeah, we can do whatever we want
with it, doesn't matter, it makes no difference. We'll do it.
I will get something new every year. Yeah, players will
play and they'll get used. It's not a big deal.
But yet those seem to be two things that come
back and rear. That rear its head far too often
is the field and the ball. Field the ball, and
leagues just go, eh, field the ball? What do we care? Oh,
(15:59):
maybe we could care a little bit more, Maybe we should.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Jermaine to the game. Brother, that's a phrase that pays.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Joe Jermaine or Jermaine Crowell. Which Jermaine, Which Jermaine?
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Do you like Joe Jermaine? Jo Jermaine?
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Okay, I mean Jermaine Crowell had the better NFL career
than this is true? Okay, uh so coming up next,
we'll have more on this game. We look at it
from the eagle side. A huge win for them. They
start one to zero. Have they solved all their problems?
I don't know about that. Plus, we got some upset
(16:33):

Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my bes friend
Mike Harmon. The Northwestern Wildcats may only be a minute
thirty three away from starting the season two and zero.
Duke was driving Murphy gets sacked, fumbles, Wildcats pick it up.
Still a minute and a half left to go, and
(18:36):
Duke does have two timeouts left, but right now it
is Northwestern football. They're looking to see to make sure
he wasn't down before he fumbled. We'll have more on
this coming up in a few minutes. But we watched
Eagles beat the Packers thirty four to twenty nine. How
did the betters do? What do we think this weekend
looks like in college football?
Speaker 3 (18:57):
In the NFL?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Nobody better to talk to at this point. Happy Friday,
Happy Friday night to our insider in Vegas, longtime friend
of the show. He's on Twitter at Todd Ferman, former
odds maker at Caesars. Check him out on the bet
the Board podcast. See him on CBS. Todd, I already
have an overunder. I want to know if I won
for the Packers Eagles game.
Speaker 7 (19:20):
I think you did cash that overticket where number closed
forty nine and a half, but I think the over
under for slippage at least in the first half probably
exceeded that. But credit to the teams for making some
of those adjustments and an entertaining game, albeit a sloppy
one week one down in San a Polo.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
You know, you could have just said, what was that, Smith,
what's your part like? Because I'm gonna say I had
forty nine and a half for the number of players
slipping and falling. I couldn't. You could have just you
could have just said, Hey, what's the thing Smith? No, no, no,
I'm I'm gonna give your bunchline already Dot Thanks Todd.
I appreciate Smith.
Speaker 7 (19:51):
This is this is how things work around here. I've
done this radio show with you, gentlemen for way, way
too long to not know some of your before you
deliver it. And by the way, watching this Northwestern game,
hopefully harm isn't sitting on pins and needles, because we
know if Northwestern is going to make the college football playoff,
they have to start two and zero with this robust
offensive attack that we've seen through two weeks.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
Got to take care of the business in the football.
I mean, obviously a defensive slug fest here on the
lakefront here with threats of typhoons.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
Hey, I mean, look, the bottom line is this. We've
seen plenty of offensive sports take place in the Lakefront,
whether it's the Cubs when they went through their summer swoon.
Of the way, Northwestern is trying to set football back
fifty or sixty years. So Chicagoans know all too well
how this works. And for all six hundred and fifty
fans that are actually in attendance at this beautiful new stadium,
I'm sure this will ruin their weekend. If Northwestern can't
(20:44):
hang on to the commanding thirteen to ten.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Leaguers, My brother and whatever wagers he has, sends his
best from Evanston.
Speaker 7 (20:51):
Hey, look, I mean from here, I'm sure there's international
horse racing that your brother can invest in and can
carry him straight into early morning kickoffs tomorrow for Michigan
and Texas.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Well, even before then you can get some epl action
and if you really get desperate, so.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
There's no doubt it's a twenty four hour sporting calendar
that Smith knows all too well.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Now, before we get to Michigan Texas, Todd, here's what
I want to know coming off this game tonight, Right,
Eagles win thirty four to twenty nine. As we talked about,
the field was in such bad shape. We watch players
slip the entire game from opening snap to the final snap.
Can you get an honest take on the Eagles and
the Packers after this or was this one of those
(21:31):
you know what it was in Brazil and yet players
slipping and falling and who knows, and there's still just
as much an unknown as they were coming into the game.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
Well, I think the biggest unknown right now is going
to be the status of Jordan Love and how bad
that lower leg injury is. Was it a high ankle sprain,
was there a broken bone or did something else go
on there with only six seconds to go in the game,
Because the drop off from Jordan Love to Malik willis
about a touchdown for me in the power numbers, and
that would take Green Bay from being a co favorite
right behind the Detroit Lions, roping them to last in
(22:01):
the division if Malik Willis had to start for an
extended period of time. Now, on the other side, for
Philadelphia offensively, we knew this group was going to be dynamic,
and I think it'll take some time for Kellen Moore
to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. You did see
a couple of miscues along the offensive line. You saw
some poor decision making from Jalen Hurts throughout that game
and made a couple of throws that he's no doubt
going to want back. But when we're talking about these teams,
(22:23):
is the way they're currently constructed. No reason to believe
that Philadelphia won't be the team to beat in the
NFC East, especially is that defense jels and for green
Bay if they can stay healthy. Clearly on paper, the
biggest threat to the Detroit Lions in the NFC North now.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Todd Smith alluded to it.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
He's got a lot of family members that are Michigan
Wolverines fans, and they're very nervous and they hate him
right now because he's preticting a potential burial at the
hands of the Texas Longhorns.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
How do you see this one?
Speaker 7 (22:50):
Yeah, I'm not going to say it's going to be
a burial by any stretch of the imagination. That Michigan defense,
at least from what I saw last week, I know
not the stiffest competition against Fresno appears to be as
quick as athletic, as a National championship caliber group that
we saw last year. I think when you look on paper,
they have the pieces to be just as good, so
that side of the ball won't experience a drop off. Meanwhile, offensively, well,
(23:11):
that remains a very different story. Trying to figure out
who the quarterback will be for Michigan that gives them
the best chance to beat a team like Texas. What
receivers can emerge on the edge, because there's pretty much
Colson Lovelin and that's about it. I'd like to see
Donovan Edwards take what the defense gives them instead of
trying to turn every carry into a home run. But
I think Michigan knows their blueprints, they know their DNA,
(23:32):
and it's going to be playing rock solid defense, running
the football, trying to shorten the game, and doing everything
they can to hit a Texas team in the mouth.
That quite frankly, is it used to playing this caliber
of physical football with guys that want to get outside,
operate in space and lean on their athleticism and speed.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
All Right, Todd, Outside of that obvious, that's the big Ones,
Big nude kickoff on Fox. What are the couple of
games do you like the most tomorrow?
Speaker 7 (23:55):
I mean, if we're starting with some of the marquee matchups,
I think it's what we're going to see in Lincoln,
Nebraska before fascinating between the Cornhuskers and Colorado. So much
is made about this Nebraska team who came into the
year with pretty high expectations and for a program that
hasn't made a bowl game in almost a decade. You
can understand why with Dylan Royola one of the top
rated recruits at the quarterback position. But I'm not sure
(24:16):
what we learned about Nebraska and their season opener against
UTEP And for Colorado, the one thing we've seen with
Dion Sanders is when there's an underdog in their games,
they typically fare pretty well. With the thirteen games that
Dion has been the head coach of Colorado, the Dog
has gone ten and three, and a lot of that
you can attribute to Colorado having a dynamic offense that
can score with anybody, but when they're installed as a favorite,
a defense that may not be able to go out
(24:39):
there and be all that stingy in any particular regard.
So I think Colorado can be live in that game.
We did see a line move though, take it from
seven and a half to six and a half, and
it probably scares me off a little bit for making
a case for the Dog. And then of course we
get the annual Syhawk showdown where points have been at
a premium with the undergoing seventeen and two over the
last nineteen meetings between Iowa and Iowa State. But I
(25:00):
think this total is a little low when you look
at some of the offensive capabil capabilities Relatively speaking, Iowa
a few more playmakers that were on display last week
in their opener against Illinois State. I look at an
Iowa State team that has a more experienced quarterback in
Rock Obectam when these teams met last year, and a
couple of receivers that could put the Iowa defense in
a little bit of conflict. So I actually would go
(25:21):
contrariing on that game and think it can go over
the total at thirty five, but wouldn't feel at all
surprised if we were talking about a thirteen to ten final.
So is the joy of backing a team hailing from
the former conference known as the Big Ten West.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
We got some big point totals on the board in
the National Football League, biggest of which Rams and Lions.
Rams starting to get a little bit of love, but
the Lions penciled in for many in the Super Bowl
three and a half.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
The total what do you think here?
Speaker 7 (25:49):
And I think this is a Lions team that if
they can get slightly below average defensive performances on a
weekly basis, the offense is going to do everything they
can to hold their own and credit to the Lions,
they went out address some of their major deficiencies this offseason.
You bring in Marcus Davenport if you can pimp him healthy.
DJ Reader is an absolute run stuffer, and you saw
(26:10):
how different the Bengals were against the run when he
was on or off the field. You bring in some
use on the back end, and I really like the
moves they made this offseason. The bolster that roster, along
with the weapons on offense that are only going.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
To get better.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
As far as the total in that game, we did
see some over money take it through the key number
of fifty one, So I think if you're looking to
get involved, you may want to attack the first half
total that's still below that key number of twenty seven
and hope that history repeats itself. Or we saw a
track meet in the playoff game before the game kind
of petered out with only nine points after the break,
So no weather to worry about there and it won't
(26:41):
remind any of us of this slugfest we're seeing right
now between Duke and Northwestern. It's currently tied to thirteen
headed to overtime, and you can only hope that we
get thirty seven rounds of the two point shootout for
teams that basically run tech Moo bole style offense, right,
I think they have three positive plays in their playbook.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Make just find him, my best friends.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
It's Todd Ferman with us, and I just.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Want to let you know, Todd, you could run four
plays in techmo Okay, it's four plays you can, but only.
Speaker 7 (27:09):
Three of them were typically successful.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (27:11):
Actually you were playing with Lawrence Taylor on the defensive
side and he got in the backfield to blow everything
up before the quarterback could even get the snap.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Oh yeah, you know LT on defense and Bo Jackson
on offense. The two yes, unstoppable guys.
Speaker 7 (27:24):
The ultimate cheet codes in the old school.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Yes, all right, So speaking of it, can I bet
somehow that Tom Brady has an amazing, unbelievable debut Sunday
in the booth for Fox when Date does Cowboys Browns,
Because I would have bet that he's going to be phenomenal.
Speaker 7 (27:39):
Tom Brady's pulling double duty from what I've seen and
advertise so far, he's going to be a big mute
kickoff at his alma mater tomorrow at the desk with
the boys, at least for a little while. The question
is will it be plain strains or automobiles to get
him to Cleveland from ann Arbor or will he have
a full police escort to make sure he gets there
in a timely manner. But I think the best storyline,
by the way, about Tom Brady is the fact that
(28:02):
your former Fox colleague Skip Bayless has already decided to
take shots on his social media channels about the potential
bias that we could see from Tom Brady in the booths.
And that's the kind of drama and such a fuge
that I live for. Skip Bayless and Tom Brady locking
horns in a battle across social media platform.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
All right, So as far as the game goes, look,
it's one of the big games on Sunday, Cowboys, Browns.
How do you see it?
Speaker 7 (28:26):
You know, this is a game that if you had
asked me two months ago, I would have been a
lot more bullish on the Cleveland Browns, thinking that their
defensive line should be able to have their way with
an inexperienced offensive line for the Dallas Cowboys, and on
the other side, the Browns strength was going to be
their offensive line that could potentially neutralize players like the
Marcus Lawrence and of course Micah Parsons. But here we
(28:46):
are with the Cleveland Browns dealing with injuries yet again.
Jack Conklin listed as questionable, and he was already going
to make the move from right tackle the left tackle
given the absence of Jedrick Willis. We're not sure exactly
what's going on with DeShawn Watson. You know, your thoughts
and prayers go out to him for losing his father
this week, But in terms of his overall health and
full body of work, there's a reason that Cleveland didn't
get him any live reps during the preseason dealing with
(29:09):
that shoulder issue. So as the number drift towards three,
I think Dallas is an intriguing underdog there. But at
the same time, it's hard to argue with how much
better Cleveland was on offense and on defense playing at
home last year compared to when they went out on
the road. I think the better chance to bet against
Cleveland may come next week when they go from an
emotional home game against Dallas into the sweltering Keaton coumidity
(29:29):
of North Florida to take on the Jaguars.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
And I'll ask it for my colleague here, mister Smith.
Trent Williams is back, Ayuka's back. McCaffrey says he's gonna
go four and a half the total, all right? Or
is the line over the forty nine Ers over the
Jets forty five and a half the total? Does Aaron
Rodgers have enough to upend the forty nine ers and
make Smith happy in Week one?
Speaker 3 (29:51):
You know?
Speaker 7 (29:51):
I mean, Smith isn't allowed to have nice things, so
he's not going to get the New York matches, the
wild card team, and the New York Jets winning the
AfD East. But I do have a little bit bit
of a historical nugget for you, Smith that'll really encapsulate
all the misery that you've had to deal with as
a Game Green fan. When you look at the Jets,
they're entering this season as the favorite to win their
division for the first time since nineteen ninety nine. You
(30:14):
know what happened in nineteen ninety nine, my.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Friend, Yes, I know in ninety nine, what happened when
Vinnie testa Verdi decided to go after a fumble and
set the Jets back ten years by going after that
and blowing out his achilles.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
He did, but maybe this is what you need. Twenty
five years later at tourn Achilles comes full circle and
Aaron Rodgers can be the one to lead you out
of your misery. Since the Jets haven't won the AFC
since two thousand and two, it's tied for the second
longest active drought in the NFL. Only the Cleveland Browns
have a longer drought, going back to nineteen eighty nine.
But I do think the game on Monday Night is interesting.
(30:49):
You mentioned the San Francisco hasn't had all of their
players in camp for the duration. Aaron Rodgers has a
long Monday Night football winning streak working in his favor.
I would lean towards the underdog as the number continues
to drift back to four and a half. No strong
feeling the total, but most likely won't be a game
that I see myself getting involved in, but one that
I am extremely excited to watch as a football fans.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
He's on Twitter at Todd Ferman, That is at Todd Furman.
Check out the Bet the Board podcast see him on
CBS Todd As always, Buddy, appreciate it man, have a
great night, enjoy the games this weekend.
Speaker 7 (31:19):
Gail Force wins, boys showing up that best one.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Hit them hard, brother.
Speaker 7 (31:26):
Handling over unders at Northwesterns in Northwestern's home games the
same way they do with baseball totals at Wrigley. Don't
put them up on the board on Monday. Wait till
game day because we know weather is never the friend
of the offense.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Take it easy, buddy, Yeah, good boy, all my fun.
The sports world is converging on Duke Northwestern as they
head the overtime right now. Steve Desager, who actually bet
the over on this game, has the latest on this
and more with what's trending.
Speaker 8 (31:55):
Actually, if I wagered on it, I would say, Okay,
we're gonna have at least one punt that lands in
the lake, because with the wins, that's gonna happen at
some point in the home schedule here in the next
couple of years there. Well, we did ad an NFL
game in Brazil tonight and Philadelphia held off Green Bay
thirty four to twenty nine. Saquon Barkley three total touchdowns
(32:16):
one hundred and nine yards rushing. Jordan Loved two touchdown
passes one interception. In the loss, he limped off in
the final seconds ankle or leg injury. Green Bay's coach,
when asked about the Love injury, said I don't know.
Love in the final seconds was almost being sacked as
he got rid of the ball. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter
of the Eagles had firm hold of the quarterback's left
(32:37):
leg and then in the tackle caused Love's ankle to
go at an awkward angle. The game was stopped for
the injury. Loved was helped off the field. Philly wins
the game. The Packers were stopped by a two point
try first half and also missed a forty three yard
field goal attempt in the second half. Green Bay with
ten penalties and on red zone tds they were one
for four. Bengals wide receiver t Higgins is doubtful for
(33:00):
this weekend with a hamstring injury. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson
may not be starting. He's questionable for Sunday with calf titaness.
He was limited in practice again today. Forty nine Ers
running back Christian McCaffrey was limited in practice again with
a calf injury. Colts chicker Mac Gay is questionable with
a sports hernia. Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is questionable
(33:21):
with a knee injury. He'll reportedly be a game time decision. Yes.
In college football, there starting overtime at Northwestern, It's tied thirteen,
all Wildcats against Duke. The Duke Blue Devils missed a
thirty three yard field goal attempt with about two minutes left,
but made a twenty one yarder to tie with fifteen
seconds to go. BYU was an eighteen to fifteen winner
(33:43):
at SMU. SMU five for five on field goals, but
had no touchdowns in the game. Indiana seventy seven to
three winners over Western Illinois. Hoo's yours was close, not
close Hoosier's defense with six secs Hoosier's offense over seven
hundred yards. At the US Open Men's Semifinals, two Americans
battled it out in five sets. Taylor Fritz defeated Francis
(34:06):
Tiafo six to one in the fifth. He now will
face number one Yonick Center in Sunday's final four WNBA games,
including the Minnesota win at Indiana. Caitlin Clark in the
loss twenty five points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and seven turnovers.
The Cavaliers reportedly re signed center Tristan Thompson. There is
one game in the Major League still going because they
(34:28):
each scored in the tenth inning now top of the
eleventh at Oakland. Detroit and the A's tied three to three.
Cleveland one three to one in LA beating the Dodgers.
Despite Shoheo Tani's forty fifth home run, it was his
one hundredth RBI. San Diego beat San Francisco five to one,
Manny Machado two home runs, Houston eight nothing over Arizona,
(34:49):
Seattle six to one winners at Saint Louis. The Phillies
won their sixth in a row. The Mets won their
eighth straight thanks to a tenth inning homer. Atlanta and
pitcher Max Freed beat Toronto three to one. Met still
tied with the Braves for the final NL wildcard spot.
Yankees and Orioles each one. The O's half game up
on the Yankees for first in the Al East.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Coming up next, we get back into the big game
from Brazil. We talked about Jordan Love in that situation.
Have the Eagles solved all their problems?
Speaker 8 (35:50):
I don't know about that.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

I'm gonna get no workout of Harmon as long as
this duke Northwest.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
What are you talking about? I'm here for you, I'm
here for America. Greatness laid into a Friday night early
Saturday morning, wherever you may be, Thanks for being with us,
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Twenty to twenty. And Duke is knocking on the door again.
These are two smart teams playing against each other here
on a Friday night. Meanwhile, let's get into the Eagles Packers.
But he spend a lot of time talking about Jordan
level of More on that coming up in a few minutes.
But the Eagles win thirty four to twenty nine, and
they're able to get some big plays, They're able to
(36:49):
move the football. Saquon Barkley has a really good game.
Have the Eagles solved all their problems? Because it was
a off season riddled with issues? And does anybody like
Nick Sirianni? Do the players like him? Does Jalen Hurts
like him? Does he like Jalen Hurts? All of the
good tidings they had two years ago in the Super Bowl? Wow,
things just disappear. Have the Eagles solve their problems? Eh?
(37:15):
The best thing I can say, and the most accurate
thing is this was a really good start. But that's
what it was. It's a start. It's one game that's
in South America that they play in Brazil where the
field was incredibly slippery, and I don't know the game
would could have would go entirely different if they played
(37:35):
in the United States. I don't know that there's anybody
that could have predicted what we were going to see.
Everybody was slipping and falling. There were so many big plays.
It's still hard to get a read on a lot
like is the Eagles offense this good? Is Saquon Barkley
gonna be this good? Or was this a product of Hey,
the defense had trouble countering and everybody was slipping and falling,
So it's hard to put that into perspective of Yes,
(37:58):
I know the Eagles have have done that. We saw
they have issues with the quarterback snap. I mean, you
want to think that's gonna change as time goes on shore,
but they had issues in the beginning of the game.
They almost blew it at the end of the game
on a tush push or Brazilian butt lift since you know,
I swear game was in South Paula, so there were
(38:18):
a lot of issues that they have. Again, the best
thing I can say is, hey, they won the game.
It's a good start, but that's what it was. I
can't concretely analyze how good they were, how bad Green
Bay was, because look, when gods are slipping and falling,
it's hard, like, what are you gonna say? Oh, well,
I guess well, maybe that would have been a touchdown.
(38:39):
Maybe aj Brown would have had a seventy yard touch
on that, or maybe that would have been a thirty
yard play. It's hard to say. I can't really concretely
analyze the game because of that, and when you see
they still have problems snap in the football. It's a
good start, but that's as far as I can go.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
No, but that's just it, right, It's all all building blocks, right,
Yesterday was not the cleanest of games when we look
at what Kansas City and Baltimore we're doing. Baltimore is
still complaining that they they should count the touchdown because
of style points and that they'll get better while Kansas
City won't. Yeah, good luck with that. But for tonight, Yeah,
(39:13):
the slippage on the field. I gotta imagine these guys
in the set both secondaries didn't suddenly forget how to
play football and only made plays when the ball was
thrown directly to them.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
All right, I mean there's some pretty big.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Names there, and I know Sleigh had one, Alexander had one,
and that's great. So the name guys in the secondary
got their their ticks into their idp leagues. But for
everybody else, there's a lot of slipper and a lot
of empty space. And Vic Fangio I don't think forgot
how to coach defense overnight either. Uh so the offensive
line in the exchanges should get better For Philadelphia, Saquon Barkley,
(39:48):
you got a monster game. We'll see how long that
that rolls up when you talk about touches and and
wearing down over time. But yeah, for both squads, plenty
of room to grow come out of this. For Green Bay, obviously,
the one big question is how long are they without
Jordan love Right? And all the internet doctors are starting
to make the rounds. I'll wait for something official before
(40:10):
I go to that. But Philly had may have solved
some of the other problems, but a few other ones
are there that needs some smoothing out before we can
really see them at full tilt.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Now, maybe this isn't fair, but this is this is
just how things have gone since the Super Bowl. Is
that I don't know that I don't know that it
matters to me how good things look for Philadelphia. They
could be behind the scenes one day away from absolute implosion,
you know, like like like, are you looking at last year?
You know, I mean there were ten and oh yes,
the Jets turned out that the Jets. The Jets ended
(40:43):
the season for the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
But think about what they were doing, right, They had
changed their coordinators and everything else, and it didn't matter.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Right until it did.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Yeah, I don't I just I feel like they're always
a step away from disaster or or or slipping on
a banana peel and suddenly, look, look what happened to us.
I don't know what's gonna get it back to that point?
Is is it gonna take winning the the NFC East.
Is gonna take winning it by a few games? Like
that's that's a that's a big thing. Like I I
I don't, you know, I don't know what's gonna make
(41:13):
me believe. Okay, the Eagles have all their problems by
I give them credit for the game tonight, but all
the problems behind him. Man, I don't know, dude, I
don't we need the problems coming up next, we get
back into the biggest headline of the night. Jordan loved
the packers. And what about Saquon Barkley. Oh, that's next,
right here, Jason the Mike Fox
