Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Gratings and Welcome in our three of the program, Disco
ball still spinning, marching man, you know, like those in
college football, they refuse to leave the field. We've got
one more Fleetwood Mac song to play before we depart. Yeah,
we'll get into some college football a little later on
in the program. Chris Plank in for Jason Smith tonight.
(00:49):
Jason'll be back on Monday. As of right now, he's
kind of like Ba Baracas when they had to try
to get him on a plane Handnimal, I ain't getting
on no plane, and then you drug him. I think
he's kind of knocked out self medicating to get him somewhere.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I can't fly. That's one area that I can check
with Jason.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Can I just say this in my life? I didn't
travel as a kid like we didn't. We didn't really
go anywhere. A little bit of car car travel to
relatives in the Midwest, right, so my my dad's younger
brother and his family. They were either in Iowa or Indiana.
So and we did some of that, you know growing up. Oftentimes,
you know, something Hawkeye related would show up, which is
(01:29):
funny because the kids all either went to Illinois or
Iowa state. But either way when they were younger, was
we like the Hawkeys. We were big tim dwighte fans
and all of those guys. But an ac Earro became
a family friend. Weird stories, but anyway, the idea being
that that was the drives we did. And then we
had you know, other relatives near the Wisconsin Dell's, my
(01:49):
aunt and uncle whatever, but we never flew.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
And then I get a.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Little bit older and I start traveling a little bit,
not often, and even now not so frequently. But I
realized then and there that I sleep better on a
plane than I do anywhere else in the world. Really,
you know why, because I recognize I have no control.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah, see, I can't do right.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
If you're driving a car, you know, you gotta be
alert whatever. So there used to be a thing with
my ex would be all right, you know, I'll drive
and then all of a sudden, I'd like wake up
and be like where are we? And when we lived
in Northern California, Oh, we drove up to t Napa.
Like I've better sleep that long. It's like, yeah, it's
like back when we were basically running at Yahoo, like
it was a startup in the sports department as I
(02:35):
began my career there. But yeah, that was my secret.
In the end, I can't really do a damn thing
about it, so I might as well sleep.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Hmm.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
I think.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
I think I always imagine the opening to a date line.
It used to be Stone Phillips or somebody where he's like,
it's a flight like any other flight, started off with
a run, and then it's just in my mind, I
think of the worst case scenarios. These are things that
therapy could help help, but I don't travel enough, so
in my mind I just white knuckle at baby, you're
(03:05):
trying to.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Do I can't Morrison? Is that who you were trying
to channel right there?
Speaker 4 (03:08):
And Lil Keith Morrison is I'm old school dateline? You
gotta go Stone Phillips in my mind. But I'll say this,
he really did have a good jaw. He was very
very handsome. Man I question about it, I will say
that's one of the few I have something in common
with Jason Smith. Tonight I was wondering if there could
not be a person that had less in common with
on this radio network than Jason Smith. There you go,
(03:30):
We are the fearful Flyers, so join the club.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
There you go, and you have half your meals at
a fast food restaurant. That's true, McDonald's being that of reference.
All right, we're broadcasting live from the tyrack dot com studios.
Tyrack dot com will help you get there on match selection,
fast free shipping, free road hazard protection, over ten thousand
recommended installers, tire rac dot com the way tire buying
(03:53):
should be. I will say this, being away for a
week during NBA Free Agency and some of the chaos
going on really pained me to a degree. Oh yeah,
because I was still checking in on Twitter enough to
know what was going on, right, And then a couple
of times I stopped in front of what were very
famous places in either Dublin or London. I'm like, I'm
gonna do a video, not because hey, I'm doing this
(04:13):
for clout more just I want to react to this
free agency thing or what happened with Paul George or
what I was like nope, and the girls would look
at me and they were threatening to push me into
the road, you know that kind of thing. He's like, no,
you're on vacation, put the phone down, take a picture
of the giant clock and move on, old man. I
did post a picture of a statue of Winston Churchill,
(04:35):
so you know that was my random here I am
in London kind of moment.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Got a flext what just out of curiosity?
Speaker 6 (04:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Was there a move? Was there something that struck you
that it either surprised you or you felt like you
wanted to react to more or caught your eye because
I kind of felt like it was a bit of
a dud. Yeah, of a free agent period. I liked
the Paul George to the Sixers move. I don't know
what the Clippers are currently doing right now. Nobody does,
and I'm not all bent up about anything Lakers have done.
(05:04):
I love what the Thunder did, But was there anything
that that Jason obviously liked what we were talking about today,
But was there anything from your perspective that Mike Harmon
wanted to get into and Mike Carmen really wished that
he was on the air to dive into folly last week?
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Well, I think some of it was the Paul George stuff.
Just remember because of the side. I remember when they
were on the Dais together, him and embiid and and.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
You know, sources were saying, sources.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Very loudly and big bold letters that the Sixers had
soured on the Paul George possibility and that wasn't gonna
happen so as soon as it does, like ah, sources might.
So that was really what I wanted to respond to.
And then I did have a chance once he went
podcasting and started making up his version of the truth,
(05:53):
I did get to react to that, so I was
back in time for that one. But in general, yeah,
the rest of it, you know, checks a box, you know,
the bulls, you know, getting in with the Pistons and
a couple of other teams to see if they can't
get Cooper Flagg and load up the ping pong balls.
So that that part of it is curious to me
to see what the next moves are.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Boy, he didn't take long and I'm because I'm with
you for a draft that was also viewed to not
have a superstar in it, and a day one rock
star boy. We saw Cooper Flag play against Team USA,
and Mike immediately was like, oh my goodness, everyone, that's right,
it's worthy.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Not the great American hope and all the Olympians went
out of their way as they were asked about him.
I mean KD and I think had probably the best
quote that I saw on it. Chris was, you know,
just kind of saying he doesn't play with emotion, and
he handled himself with anybody that he matched up against.
He just went to work, which is the greatest compliment
(06:52):
you could play a guy. Right, He's not star that
you can pay to him. He's not star struck. He's
the moment's not too big. It's all right, I'm going
to work. So yeah, the anticipation of the year to
come for college basketball, you get a win for a
year and then you move on from there. Now, if
you hate the Duke Blue Devils, I'm sorry you'll have
to suffer through a lot of extra coverage because of
(07:14):
the logo on his chest. But you know, when you
get down to it. It's just now that curious part.
And we watch the Summer League tonight at number one
versus number two, France on France, all the other thing,
and then you have some of the other qualifying games
that are still going on. So we've got some Victor
Webbin Yama highlights in the middle of those, and then
(07:35):
we get the Browny James, the amount of people that
just celebrate any struggles from the young man. I hope
you find the hug you need wherever it is. I
hope you find the hug you need. Twenty three percent
now from the field, six of twenty six, he's zero
for twelve from three point range. Over these three games,
(07:56):
just been a miserable run thus far. Eight point five rebounds,
two steals, three or fourteen from the field, zero for
eight from three point range twenty seven minutes as they
got run out of the gym by Houston. But it's
one of those curiosities, right, because that part of the
excitations I did miss as well, the immediate reaction to
(08:16):
what we knew was coming.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
We knew it was coming, for it was signaled for months.
Did I hope in my heart of heart that my
out of spite someone else you know, says hey, Rich
Paul Lebron watch this and does a you know, sopranos
kind of hand gesture in their general direction. Sure, I
hoped for it, but we knew reality what was gonna
happen at the fifty to fifth pick. So yeah, I
did miss the contrivance of a second night of the
(08:41):
NBA Draft because I was on a plane that night
that so I kind of missed that, although I didn't
miss the hysterics of what I knew would come of.
This is the worst thing in the world and how
horrible is this and the expanded version of nepotism that
the dirty little secret. And Steve was with me on Monday,
so he's heard this Alex as well. But you know, well,
(09:02):
we'll revisit because the audience always changes, and maybe Shaye'll
get excited about this, and maybe you will too. Is
all the folks in our media world that got way
too twisted over this. Never let write another letter of recommendation.
Your kid, your nephew, your niece, your friend down the street.
They need help getting an internship or a job. You
can never say another damn word positively about them, because
(09:26):
you have a position of power, of clout of influence
based on what you've attained. And that's the whole idea
of nepotism. It's not just because it's your son, it's
any sphere of influence you hold. So again, back off,
look in the mirror and recognize what you're doing every
time you start cursing about this relationship.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
I don't know, Mike Harmon, if we've seen a reaction
quite like this where you hit it on the head
and I've been trying to figure it out. I've been
trying to figure it out back now. Is does Lebron
do some corny stuff? Yeah? Sure? Is he always reading
a book and the books on the first page? Yes,
I mean, but the amount of disdain for this move
(10:09):
has been hilarious to me. And I'm not someone that says, oh,
he's going to be a rock star, but I've never
felt that way, like about fifty and beyond in the
NBA draft ever.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
But that's just it. Everybody's like, look, you could have
found an all star like him or him, or the
undrafted free agents like him or him or him. It's
like they're outliers in a system that's been going on
for decades. Right, Yes, you've found a few guys that
became superstars, and you can say, okay, a couple picks
earlier in this draft.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Look what Nicola Jokic became. I get it.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
There are guys in the end, Genie Buss, you can't
praise it for running it like a mom and pop shop,
and then, on the other hand, want to burn it
down when they treat guys with loyalty and whatever. I'm
not saying you gotta like it, but just understand, nod
and move along. If you're a Laker fan that hate sitting,
I know we're on KLAC here AM five seventy in
(11:04):
Los Angeles if you need to, you know, put the
purple and gold aside for a little while, go find
another team until Lebron retires, and then whoever that next
star becomes that they then decide is the hallmark of
their organization. Guess what, They're gonna be loyal to him
too and whatever that becomes, whether it's their kid or
somebody else. You know, when they want a superstar from
(11:26):
another team via trade or lobbying via free agency, all
kind of the same thing. But I want to get
to this one. On the Today Show, everybody doing the
rounds as we get ready for the Olympics, Lebron James
talking about, well, how will you address things now that
your son is on the squad.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
That's going to work. Just like anyone of other my teammates,
hold him accountable, and he should hold me accountable when
I do things you know not right. You know for me,
you know, I probably will hold him at a higher
standard because you know, I want him to be great.
I want him to be as great as he can be.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
I like the he said not right, like he was fonsie.
He couldn't stay wrong get right because he was gonna say,
you know when I do something wrong, and he paused
and he caught him not right.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
No, that was pretty good. Anything not right? Not right
to me? When I try to say, Jason all night long,
that's okay, it's okay, kudos to him, I.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Mean, and I hope it's right. But how many times
he's gonna say, I'm not just I'm not mad, I'm
just disappointed.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
I'm just disappointed because I get that. I got that
a lot from my dad, and I'm mad at You're
just disappointed. But I don't think i'd be able to
separate that, Mike, you'r a girl dad. I'm a girl dad.
I got an older son, and again, none of them
are athletes or like would be super athletes, but my
joy for them supersedes anything that could happen in a
(12:50):
game or in my profession. Like if if my daughter
came out here right now and was crying, we'd have
a hard time doing this segment, right it's the most
So I don't no whatever you know, and we'll get
to it, I'm sure, as and I rolls on. But
the whole separating Lebron the teammate from Lebron my son,
I don't know about you, Mike, I just can't buy that.
That's just one of those where I'm like, dang, that's
(13:12):
a that's a part of your well. Obviously, there's a
lot of parts of Lebron's DNA that I don't have.
But that's just a part of the mental makeup that
I cannot even fathom right now because I wouldn't be
able to separate that. That would be a hard thing.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
But I think that's what you got to say, though,
Chris right and and Lebron most of the time is
pretty calculated on what he wants to get out right
and how and in this case it becomes just you know, hey,
don't question my professionalism just because my kids coming to
the team. You mean again, a lot of folks have
gone on their unhinged rants about this as is if it's.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
The worst thing in the world. It's like, I mean,
get outside, man, enjoy there's there's football coming up. Getting
mad about good will battle or something. I'm going on
good will hunting. It's not your fault. That's your fault.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
It's not your fault. It's not your fault. And see
how quickly they break. But you know, I get it.
You know, it's it's a little odd, right, you get
Reddick And then Connect comes in and lebron months ago
had made no bones about it, like that was his
guy that he loved to watch, right remember towards the
tournament that was the big deal talking about Edie and
(14:17):
Connect and all of that. And we have we played
that audio and so that when he suddenly becomes their
first round pick, there he is. And then Bronny, you know,
it plays according to script. You know, life and happenstance,
circumstances sometimes work. If you want to believe there's the
big invisible hand like the frozen envelope theory or Jordan
suspended for gambling.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Whatever, have ad it.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Just make a stylish tin hat, tinfoil hat while you
do it. That's all. Just just you know, have a
little bit of a plumb, maybe find a nice feather
or something. I'm not saying they're not true, just saying,
you know, the preponderance of evidence would just say, ah, well,
just weird circumstance. And in this particular case, it's a
kid getting a shot truncated season, what is he ready?
(15:02):
Should he have gotten draft or whatever? You know what,
You're not making the decision.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Cry about it all you will. You would do the
same thing for your kid or whomever else if you
were in a position of influence, because everybody does it
every day. Hey, you guys, got any internships over at
the radio station? Friends, family, family, haven't heard from for
two decades. Suddenly out of the blue, do you have
tickets or do you have jobs? Sound like a normal
(15:31):
conversation in the plank household. Yeah, I think he does.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Yeah, I would be. It'd be NonStop, and it is
NonStop already. So now I'm not supposed to help anyone.
That's the new rule I think.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
I think according to our media brethren, I think that's.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Really anyone, how dare you or never never tip a cap?
But I know we're up against it. I know we're
up against it. But I want to add one more
thing to those who are upset about the four year deal.
You realize it's the almost exact same to the contract
that the guys that were taking fifty sixth and fifty
(16:04):
seventh and fifty eighth and the previous two drafts got. Well,
so it's go ahead. It's not some shocking deal that's
been given. Maybe based on his experience and maybe based
on his resume, it might be, but it's not like
they did something with the contract that has never been
done before, because it's happened in each of the last
I think three drafts.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
Well.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I think the thing I like most about it, though, Chris,
is the fact that in addition to Lebron keeping them
under the second apron, this is where we start getting
into the contract conspiracy theories. So you got guaranteed money
for a that kind of pick, What are we doing
circumventing cap rules like that? And there you have it.
There's your chaos. There's always an angle. They always got
(16:47):
to have some chaos theory mixed therein at Plant Show.
Where you find Chris on Twitter, find me over at
Swollen Dome. We're coming here from the tirerac dot Com
Fox Sports Radio Studios and coming up next. What a
week it's been a guy. I think that's on a
spot with pretty much everybody except for this show. So Davante,
if you're out there, come on in, buddy, come on in.
(17:08):
The water's fine. We'll do that next year on Fox.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (17:22):

As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Toni Foodsco.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Show. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
But instead of us telling you how great we are,
here's how Dan Packrick described us when he came on
our show.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. You don't interrupting our promo.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally of context.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Oh yeah, Well after this promo. I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Let me put this into context. Shut up.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Polly and Toni Fusco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts oherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Yee hey, Welcome back in Fox Sports or Radio. Jason
Smith Show with me Mike Harmon from the tire rac
dot Com Studios. No Smith tonight. He'll be back with
me on Monday as we fill in for Cavino and Rich. Instead,
we've got our guy All Star Week, Chris Plank. All
things college football, college athletics. You want to know, you
(18:20):
want to talk Oklahoma softball. Champion after champion after champion,
four in a row, Baby, that's your guy. Get those
fours up like the four horsemen, four in a row,
eight total. Look out there you go. I need a
sign ball just to put on my wall. Thank you
very much at Blank Show where you find him in
the twitters? Find me over at Swollen Dome. All right,
(18:42):
we danced.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
Around it all night long.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
It's time to talk about the Raiders. We did it
a little bit with Jason Cole and Hour number one.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
I don't know if I would call what Jason Cole
did talking about the Raiders or taking a massive deuce
on him one of those two.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Well, I mean that's a little more explicit. I thought
you were gonna say, take out a giant mallet and
flattening them instead.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Well, you want you went to the other.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Route and either you got to clear the mechanism one
yet you can say what I really want to say?
No nonother thirty five minutes. Should I move that dump
button closer? I just heard, Uh, I heard the sixth
season of Press Your Luck with Elizabeth Banks is going
to start running here in the next.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Couple of weeks. Should I grab that?
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Noah, You're safe?
Speaker 3 (19:24):
No wammy, no wammy, no whammy. I don't know, because
every once in a while, you know, as I'm in
the car, I unplugged my phone and I'll hear parts
of sentences. I'm like, did they they say?
Speaker 7 (19:33):
What?
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I ah? And then the meltdown begins. But Devaluta Adams
has really gone out of his way to talk to
talk to anybody and everybody.
Speaker 7 (19:42):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
He is part of the Receiver show that is on Netflix,
which is gaining some steam. You know, after a little
bit of fearfulness that it would be a bit watered down.
After people saw the quarterback show, Captain Kirk got a
little bit of run, and I know a lot of
people either loved him afterwards or they're like, this guy's
the corniest blankety blank I've ever seen and whatever else.
(20:06):
And then you've got Patrick Mahomes. Congratulation to Patrick Mahomes
and his wife. They're expecting another child, so he'll be
more equipped even to play against zone defenses than ever.
But the the idea being Chris and then and doing
a lot of talking. We're trying to read the the
subtext and all of the bits and pieces along the way.
(20:28):
But he gave us a couple of gems and well
this one from working with a former quarterback.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
I gotta get got here, lose my life.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
I have never been hit this manion times in my careers.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Every game I get go.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Jimmy Garoppolo, the quarterback that he's referring to there, uh
now a quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. But there
was a frustrated Devonte Adams coming to the sideline and
making sure it was within earshot of every parabolic micro
that could be had.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
I'll say this much, He's not wrong. It was. I
begged for him to get out of there last year
because of how poorly that he was being used. And
I don't think it was definitely not his fault because
he was wide freaking open and he didn't have a
quarterback that could get him there. And I think part
of this too, isn't just the clip that comes out.
And then that was the Monday night game against the Lions.
(21:24):
They lost, Garoppolo got bat I think that was the
last game Garoppolo started, and I think that was the
game Josh McDaniels got fired too. I think they wiped
out everyone after that. Lions lost. But I I don't
know why. I still believe that he's going to finish
out his contract with the Raiders. But boy, Aaron Rodgers
and even Breese Hall to a certain extent, they still
(21:47):
they still have a way to kind of more specifically
Rogers like sprinkle in a little Newsy tidbit here, Rogers
comes out and says can't wait to play with him again, right,
you know, and kind of paused a little bit, and
it's just to me. I'm here, I'm hearing Devonte Adams
say all the right things. But then again, I'll hear
(22:08):
him say the exact opposite. In the next media deal,
he does he was on with uh, well, he was
on with everybody, like you said, but I, well, you know,
rad I believe in Antonio Pierce. I think we're gonna
be good, and ye blah blah blah. Then the next
interview he does like, well, you know, he's kind of
frustrating and not getting the wins that you want. I'm
not used to losing, and you're like, what, which way
are we going here? Which direction do you want to go?
(22:29):
I understand if you want to be frustrated with where
the Raiders are. I've been a fan of my whole life.
I'm freaking frustrated. And you work with Jason Fitz this week,
who's a Raiders fan too. I'm sure he's frustrated, but
just you know, let's not play this game. I don't
want If he wants to be there, be there. If not,
I don't know if we have to live every single
moment from the reactions he had of the horrible quarterbacking
(22:51):
last year. Now, is Gardner Minshew an upgrade over Jimmy Garoppolo.
I hope so. And if Aiden Connell beats him out,
then I don't even know what direction we're going after
watching him try to play quarterback last year. And yes
I did say we so that's okay. I just want
you should own Adams. I just want Davontae Adams to
be consistent in his message do you want to be
here or not? And from everything I've heard, he wants
(23:12):
to be here. But then it takes one little sprinkle
of I don't know if the best way to put
it is potentially spreading the wings and going somewhere else.
And the stories, especially during this down quiet time, they
take off like crazy.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Well, but that's the thing. It's a vacuum man. And
that's why I mean this week, we've talked about DeVante
Adams on multiple days because they're different messaging points. As
you've said, now you add some extra video context to
it that comes out. So all of that to say,
you've got a guy who clearly the one thing he
(23:48):
likes as head coach. I think that I don't think
he's flip flopped on any of that. I know earlier
in the week there was a little bit of a
push towards O'Connell over Minshew as the QB. So curious,
but all right, Let's see how that starts to develop
as we get into training camp, because we're gonna start
finding out because, let's face it, we find out what
(24:10):
happens in every pass in training camp. Now, Chris Blank,
you love that of your training camp notes from the Raiders.
What did this guy do right in third down situation?
What are you doing goal line today? All of those
kind of things. But it's the process of a guy who,
in the same toga was talking about how he felt
(24:32):
so disrespected by Green Bay with the contract offer that
they laid out for him before he ended up becoming
a Raider, And so now you have life isn't what
you expected, right, Derek Carr, your best friend, to use
the lexicon of the show, was supposed to be your
quarterback and then he's bounced in New Orleans. So you
(24:54):
got that going for you.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
And immediately that set a bad tone to Mike because
I think they DeVante Adams didn't like the way that
Derek was treated by that offensive staff by Josh McDaniels.
They did not make life easy on him, and you're
not supposed to as a coach. But I think that
set a bad tone for that in Vegas too, between
he and that coaching.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
No, that's just it, and you've had unrest going back
a number of years working with different I mean the
coaching carousel. I mean, we could play the game how
many Raiders head coaches, how many Cleveland head coaches, Bears whatever?
I mean, the cycle, US men's national team, soccer coaches,
all of those things. You like the setting of a sun.
It's predictable that cycle is going to be short. But
(25:37):
you have now with Adams trying to figure out what
the next iteration of the team is and as he's
talked about again, some consistency. We've got some big playmakers.
You got some big position guys that are there to
where you think, at least on both sides of the
ball defensively, that you can be better and offensively get
some competent quarterbacking.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Right, his numbers were still pretty damn good. Good.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Now it's volume that got him there. You know the
old Saturn at Live skit, How do we make money?
Speaker 4 (26:06):
Volume?
Speaker 3 (26:06):
The change you need five crisp dollar bills, We could
do that for you. You need, you know, twenty pennies,
five quarters this that whatever we make change, that's what
we do. And they didn't talk about getting any kind
of service for your percentage. It was literally just give
me four quarters for a dollar. Okay, cool, But it's
the idea for the Raiders. Like what are you in
(26:29):
that division?
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Right?
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Expectations are high in Chargerville, Like my running joke is
here on the highways and byways of southern California. It's
all injury attorneys and Jim Harbaugh.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Is it everywhere on the billboards.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Yeah, we haven't gotten to full Harbaugh quotes on the
billboards yet, but you know, get your season tickets now.
A lot of pictures of Jim Harbin. Now they opened
the bolt and I'm sure you saw some of the video,
uh yeah, clips of all of that and the training
facilities and all of that fun stuff. And I don't
know what Denver is. I'm not sean Payton guy again winning.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
With Drew Brees. That was a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Genius may not still be there in twenty twenty four,
but we'll see. In theory they should still at least
be more confident and consistent than they were a year ago.
Again in theory, and so so the division is a mess,
and the Chiefs aren't going anywhere so long as as
long as old number fifteen is upright, even then next
(27:28):
man up right.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
There's one thing that I'll add to it. And I
listened to probably way too many podcasts beyond just ours
right when you can find as soon as we wrap
up Nice so Jones Radio tonight. But I listened to
Micha Lombardi a lot, and one of his big things
about the Raiders, this was even before they fired his son,
was you're still building around a wide receiver, and that
was always a big no no. Now I would counter kind
(27:53):
of feel like the Raiders are building around their defensive
line right with Max Crosby and you know, making the
big money play for Christian Wilkins. But the point offensively
is dead on. How many offenses do you look at
where they're like, okay, let's get the receiver position right
and then we're good. Well, that's what the Raiders have done.
It's like the inverse of how most teams do it.
So I again, I want to see Devontae Adams finish
(28:13):
his career in a Raiders' uniform. I don't think he's
going to. And if things go south relatively early in
the season, Mike, then I would imagine that he could
end up in that Jets, Green or whomever has a
first round pick for the Raiders, sooner rather than later.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Yeah, it all becomes what are the assets that you're
holding into and so, like we were talking about with
the dopey first and second apriln nonsense of the NBA
trades are gonna get a hamstrung and movement in draft picks,
which is just such valuable capital. As much as we
laugh about them sometimes like oh it's good to be this. Well,
now they've got rules in the NBA where yeah, they
(28:50):
can move you in the back end of the round
because you spent too much money.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Yeah, okay, good times.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
But for the NFL, I think there is an out
in his contract next year, so oh, you know that
might help facilitate some things, you know, re up and
all that kind of you know, sign then or trade
then then signed. But you know, Garrett Wilson was doing
a football camp and he goes, oh, I like what
I'm hearing. He's a pretty good player, you know, all
of that kind of stuff.
Speaker 7 (29:15):
So he.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Just always laugh about what constitutes tampering and what is
just Hey, a couple of guys having fun and that
Rogers clip I hope that guy was okay, that was
hoping for the Super Bowl. Oh my gosh, you know
the other day, I mean.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Bless his heart, was that Jason.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Are we sure he's not out there now unless he
leaned out quickly and then puts sleeves on, because you
know he likes to show off his triceps.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
I've noticed that a lot of sleeveless shirts.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
We're not quite sure why and how and why his
wife lets him out of the house like that, but
she does.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
You know, there's only certain amounts of dudes that can
pull that off. Well.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
I mean, look, if I always say this though, like
if you're comfortable in it, God bless right. In our culture,
you got a lot of folks that will shame people. Ah,
you shouldn't wear that at the beach and whatever else. Like, hey, man,
avert your eyes. If they're comfortable with themselves and they're
not breaking any laws, have at it. Find your wins
(30:15):
as you can, Chris, that's right, that's.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
One of my favorites. Find your wins and if it's well,
I'll send your shirt. Do it.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
I'll send you a shirt. We got some Uh, we're
working on a logo upgrade for the coming football season,
no question about it. Wherever you can. My first win
every day is I get to wake up. Second one,
I get to come in and I look across this
studio and I get to see Steve de Sega. There
he is at the news desk.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Go chop Steve. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (30:40):
Maybe with Davante Adams, you can't believe him from one
day to the next. Maybe he doesn't even have a taco.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Bill in his house.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
WHOA.
Speaker 8 (30:49):
I don't know if we can go that far, but
I'm starting to dealt with that. Why, by the way,
I love I love the harm In reference of the
old Saturday Live commercial the change Bank, we will.
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Work with the customer to give that customer the change
that he or she needs. If you come to us
with a twenty dollars bill, we can give you two tens,
we can give you four fives. We can give you
a ten and two fives. We will work with you.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Classic Okay, And he just stares in it and it
was an episode Roseanne was on right, she's in that skin?
Speaker 4 (31:24):
Oh really that I do know?
Speaker 3 (31:26):
That's long.
Speaker 8 (31:27):
She didn't sing.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
No, I don't believe she did.
Speaker 8 (31:30):
Let's say, if that's what you want to call it.
Let's get to the late game in Major League Baseball.
At San Francisco, It's Giants seven to one over the
Twins with two outs in the top of the ninth.
Everything else is final. Arizona on a sack fly bottom
of the ninth edge Toronto five to four. The Angels
with a two run homer bottom of the tenth beat
Seattle six to five. Atlanta six to one winner at
(31:51):
San Diego. The Padres have lost five games in a row. Marcellos,
soon having a great season for the Braves, hit his
twenty fifth and twenty sixth home runs of the year.
He has seventy seven. RBI's All Star Break does not
begin until after the Sunday games. Tell that to Aaron
Judge he has thirty three home runs now. Yankees won
at Baltimore four to one. Judge is up to eighty
(32:13):
four runs beat in and the Yankees are only a
game back of the Orioles for first in the Al East.
O's manager Brandon Hyde was kicked out in the ninth
tonight after a hit batter. The save to Clay Holmes
of New York and the win to Garrett Cole six innings,
seven strikeouts. The Dodgers won four to three at Detroit
as shohe Otani hit an RBI double in the top
(32:33):
of the ninth for the lead, a ground rule double
the center field. He has sixty seven runs betted in
and the Dodger record since May twenty first was twenty
two and twenty two.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
But they're in the win column. Tonight.
Speaker 8 (32:46):
Tigers, with runners in scoring position went one for twelve.
Oakland with the upset win at Philadelphia six to two,
beating Ranger Suarez, who had been ten and three this year.
The Mets won their fourth game in a row. Kansas
City won its fourth straight. Houston won ats fourth in
a row. The Cubs won their fifth straight, five to
one at Saint Louis. Kyle Hendricks, who was one in seven,
(33:07):
got the win. At Wimbledon, Carlos Alcarez took his semifinal
and four sets against Anil Medvedev. Novak Djokovic advanced to
Sunday's final. The women's final is tomorrow. Number seven c
Jasmine Paullini against Barbara Krachikova. Ludvig Oldberg leads the Scottish
Open by one stroke. Rory McElroy is three back as
his Colin Morikawa Justin Thomas after yesterday's sixty two shot
(33:30):
seventy two today following to a tie for twenty fourth place.
The British Open begins next week. The leader at the
Livgolf event this weekend in Spain, Dean Bermeaster's Bubba Watson,
is eight over par after just the opening round. And guys,
we've got the celebrity golf going this week. Lets go
the American Century at Lake Tahoe. Wide receiver Adam Thielen
(33:52):
is the leader. John Smoltz in the top ten. And
can I say out loud that Charles Barkley is nowhere
near the bottom of the list. Really, out of ninety golfers,
Charles Barkley is tied for forty eighth with Devonte Adams.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
What the hell's happening there?
Speaker 8 (34:08):
And with Ryan Fitzpatrick they're each in the top fifty
the neck beard. So who is in the bottom ten
at celebrity golf after day one of the weekend. Well,
Blake Griffin not doing well. Kyle Rudolph, best to kudos
to our Sunday.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
Lake Griffin broken because of how he was depicted and clipped.
Speaker 8 (34:29):
Well, if he could just golf like leaving over a
car or something. I'm sure he would be finely done.
Jason Kelsey is next to last, but by far the
worst golfer in Day one was Alex Rodriguez. Just for
the record, WNBA wins for Seattle, Las Vegas and Indiana
which beat Phoenix ninety five eighty six, Caitlin Clark twenty
points thirteen assists. And the final note from the NBA
(34:51):
Summer League in Vegas which started today, the two late games, well,
we had the Clippers getting a win eighty eight seventy
eight over Den for Jordan Miller thirty six points. And
we had the battle of the top two recent draft
choices from the first round, senator Alexander Sar Washington Wizards
twelve points, four of twelve shooting against the Atlanta Hawks.
(35:14):
Number one overall pick guard Zachary resa Scha had eighteen points.
For what it's worth, Wizards won the game ninety four
eighty eight. And yes, Brownie James, would.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
You call him Nepo baby?
Speaker 2 (35:25):
If did I hear that?
Speaker 8 (35:26):
Correct? On the segment no earlier this.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Well, I said, I celebrated the fact that they were
able to get over I don't blame.
Speaker 8 (35:33):
Them Bronnie James three of fourteen shooting as the Lakers
lost to Houston three point range oh of eight.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Back to you don't help anybody, Steve, that's the lesson,
don't help anyone. Well, that's what Homer Simpson said, never
try well, ever try of course, never tried by the
way out large advice from him. Sure Barkley was seventy
five hundred to one to win, to win it, I'm
just talking being in the text.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
He's done dry.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
I just thought I'd just throw out the odds. It
is just absurd the people that have a chance to win.
Speaker 8 (36:05):
John Smoltz, an actual golfer, or Seth Curry or I
don't know if Steph Curry's golfing, but del Curry's in
the top ten after the first day.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
People like that.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Now, if they could add the Mini Golf Holy Moley
from Steph Curry back in there all all forwards.
Speaker 8 (36:19):
Whit is that coming back? That never coming back? The
Mini Golf show? You know, uh, Tessitur is doing wrestling.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
I know I'm jealous because I want in. I belong
in that world. Steve de Sager, you know that you could.
Speaker 8 (36:32):
Be like the equivalent of sideline reporter. I would like
to see that.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
I'm in back interviews. It's getting yoked up and getting
after it. I might have to lift my height like
NBA players half in years past. Thanks so much, Steve.
That's Steve de Sager. There, it's Chris Blank. I'm Mike

(37:17):

the optimism.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Welcome back into the tirerat dot com. Fox Sports Radio
Studios Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Harmon Chris plank
In for Jason Smith will dive into the world of
college foosball coming up ten minutes from now. But Chris,
I saw this story earlier today and it just kind
of made me laugh. New England Patriots fan who got
his new season ticket book. Right, you do these really
(37:53):
cool things, I know the Raiders have, like designers do
these things where it's an elaborate display, some video highlights,
you know, bells and whistles and all those kind of fun,
fun things. This one was more a couple of still shots.
But they get the tickets right. Oh, you want to
see who's pictured on it on you know, each game's
(38:13):
ticket for the home games, and you know which legend
they're celebrating, and and if there's a giveaway and all
of those kind of things.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
That's great.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
But they also included parking passes. Okay, very cool, but
at the top of the stack was a parking pass
for Gillette for the AFC title game for twenty twenty five.
That's confidence, But that's it, Like it's the absurdity of
it that just I have to celebrate given the fact
that I believe they're either nine or ten to one
just to win the division. What is there over under
(38:45):
for this season too? The Patriots over underwin total? Is
it four and a half?
Speaker 4 (38:50):
See? There you go. It's the lowest projected win total
since nineteen ninety one. But yeah, no, no, no, let's
go ahead and tease our fans by putting that parking
pass for the AFC Championship game in there.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
I love that, I mean I love that. Look As
an organization, you have to plan for the event that
you know, we don't want to have to deal with
this later, right because it'll be hectic and it'll be chaotic.
If we have to do another mailing, it'll be cost
you're doing cost efficiencies as well for different ways. You're thinking,
I'm so intrigued by Drake May and I mean, obviously
(39:27):
we can look at it from a lot of different angles,
but just for the sake of trying to gauge where
the Patriots are, you know, he's got to be the
guy day one, right, just give him the keys. If
they go with Brissett, then maybe you will use that
parking pass for the hit championship game. But he ain't
getting through Week eight.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
Yeah, he's gonna get hurt. But I'm just I'm so
intrigued because I don't know if they've got things figured
out offensively. I don't know if they have any weapons.
I love Ramandra Stevenson being a sooner guy that we
always thought would be a better pro than he was
a college player, and I think you're seeing that play out.
But of the rookie quarterbacks, he's the one guy that
you know, is he gonna become Matt Ryan where maybe
(40:07):
I didn't think too much of him coming out of
BC and he won an MVP, Or is he another
like a Josh Rosen? Is he a Sam Darnold where
it's just not He's not going to be that guy.
I'm so intrigued by Drake May and how he develops. Well.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Part of it is curious to me because the last
couple of guys you mentioned there, let's think about the
dysfunction of their respective organizations. Right right now, I'm not
saying Josh Rosen was necessarily ever gonna work, But did
he ever really get it to shake somewhere?
Speaker 7 (40:33):
No?
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Right, I mean, because you had that one year he
and the coach both bounced. Next right here comes Kingsbury.
Here comes Kyler Murray and then the Jets are the Jets.
So for the Patriots, I got to hope that at
least as much as I love Bill Belichick, the coach,
greatest of all time, Bill Belichick, the guy that was
doing the administrative part of things. He got mad scientists
(40:56):
down the stretch with his offensive coordinator position in some
of these other things. So now it's time to go
back to basics for Girodmeo. So Alex van Pelt comes in,
so I at least have to hope on all hopes there. Right,
you got Pop and Kendrick Bourne, who's a pretty good
receiver when he can stay healthy. Hunter, Henry and Hooper
are still there. Hooper still drives the boat chief and
(41:19):
then Stevenson's a hell of a back and they brought
in Antonio Gibson. So you got some pieces, and you
know they've drafted offensive linemen, so they should at least
be functional in terms of having a little bit of balance,
and defensively they'll be just fine. Right, they'll be above
average defensively, So I wouldn't bury them. But I do
like the fact that, you know, the bold opportunity here,
(41:42):
they got the confidence AFC Title game.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
Baby, they got the confidence and they haven't changed anything
about the team's roster. They haven't changed too much about
the coaching stuff except the coach himself, Bill Belichick's gone.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Everything else it's kind of the same. It'd be fascinating
to watch so much fun though chaos theory. We get
into college football and four hundred plus what does that mean?
