We got more football coming up in twenty minutes. We'll
get into the big game on Thursday night that the
Seahawks somehow found a way to stay close to the
forty nine ers. For the forty nine ers, pulled away
for a victory, but big night in Major League Baseball,
(01:12):
the Tigers and the Guardians forced Game five. The Yankees
move on to the Alcs with a three to one
win over the Royals. The Mets waiting to find out
who they're going to meet after Game five between the
Dodgers and the Padres tomorrow. And one of the questions
I got all day from my friend, text and social
media everywhere. Who do you want to play? That's what
(01:33):
I got? So who do you want? Who do you want? Right?
And I wanted to give the whole Hey, you know,
I don't really care. It doesn't matter. It's no, no, No,
I know I have an answer no, which would be
the adult thing this say no, who cares? I don't
really care. I'm not going to give you the managerial answer,
like the answer Carlos Mendoz will give. Hey, we're just happy.
We just want to know where we're going so we
(01:53):
can fly out and we're excited. No, No, there's an
absolute and it's weird. I can't they already come out
to the coast to have afere les. Yeah, that they've
landed halfway between La and San Diego. They've land in
Orange County, So I'll spend some time in the o
C and then either go south or north, and that's
how it works well.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
And can go bring a winning baseball team to Anaheim
for a dare.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Hey, I've already asked some of my friends who were
Guardians fans. Hey, I'll loan you Lindor for game five,
but then you gotta give me Ramirez and and and
and Classe for the for the NLCS, the whole NLCS.
I'll give you Lindor just for one game to get in,
but then you gotta give me those guys for the
entire NLCS. Think Lindor wants to go back for one
game if it means he could get Jose Ramirez an
(02:37):
Emmanuel class. Sure, why not just play one game? Right? Flyout?
Does he get part of their bonus? Listen you fly
fly Out, fly out to Cleveland, play one game tomorrow,
you know, you know, stay in there. You had a
day off today, Play a game tomorrow, okay, and then
or play game Saturday, then fly then fly out to
the West Coast. You're off Sunday, play a game Monday.
(02:58):
You're fine, you know what.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I always argue with you, though, no variability don't add
anything to the equation. Him playing another nine innings for
another team. What happens? Yeah, but if potential for chaos.
But if he's getting off that plane with Fromiers and
class A, I'm okay with that. I'm alright with it. Okay,
I'll give you him for one game. You give us
those guys with the whole LCS. I don't think the
Union would allow it, but I kind of like, you
(03:20):
got to get creative man theories.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Here's not creative at all. You know, we'll make people away.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
The time Rob Manford would make a ruling on it,
it'd be long gone. Yeah, I mean serious, handing the
hunk of metal to these guys. Wait, weren't you on
the Guardians? Look, man, we did a whole thing during
the playoffs, but look before we get to the Yankees. No,
because I have there's an absolute answer.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
And if you would have asked me this question, if
you said okay, Jason in April, like I said, Okay,
here you go. You're gonna have a season, like if
you like, if if a spirit from another world visited
me at home, like in the middle of the nine
oct I got up to make a sandwich and while
We're hanging out with George Glory and and and a
spirit dressed as as the ghost of keithne Andez you know,
came to me and said, but I don't want to
(04:04):
actually use someone who is dead, so I would say,
you know, but if you know the ghost of Keith
they showed up. Jason, Oh my goodness, am I seeing
something you shouldn't have had that sandwich. The mayonnaise was bad.
It had been in the refrigerator for too long. I'm
seeing things. Keith Rornd is here visiting me in my house. Yes, Jason,
how are you hey? Was it really? Yes? I did
(04:24):
Kissy Lane on the show, and he said, Okay, I'm
gonna tell you something. I know. It doesn't seem like
we're gonna compete this year. In fact, Max Schurz they
said he was okay with getting traded last year because
the Mets told him weren't gonna compete. Why do you
hate Max?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Sus there's so much What did he do to you?
Speaker 1 (04:41):
It's just funny that he was so ready to tell
anybody the Mets told me we're not gonna They're not
gonna compete next year. So that's why I'm okay with
the trade. He told that, which is as stupid why
would you say that? But no, no, I'm gonna say it.
That's why I'm okay with the trade. Are told Grimace
walked through that door or or hawk to I was
(05:02):
gonna say, it's not even about Grimace anymore. It's always
about grim No, because the data suggests that really it
was Hoctua showing And does anybody go to the games
dressed as hawk to a girl? Does hawk to have
her own speech? Well, we don't have the empirical data.
Great to run through that, because no, no one, no
(05:24):
one is getting on the seven line to get out
to Willett's Point to see the game, and they're jumping
up and down going hawk to a hawk to a
hawk to it. No, but there's a lot of hawk
going on on the seven train. Yeah, doing that for Grimace. No,
come on, that's Grimason's train. You don't do that to Grimace.
That's my train. Just trying to be delicate with my words.
It's Pierce Grimmas is on the train. We gotta find Grimace,
(05:51):
you know. That's That's the one thing like the seventh
like the seventh Line to get out to the Games,
it's you feel like you're on the train forever. Like
that's the thing about going out to the Mets games.
It's like, Okay, you're in the city as you get
out and you're there forever, and it lets you off
and you walk out in there it's just nothing. And
then in the middle of this nothing is city field.
It's almost like they just take me out to an
(06:13):
empty spot like where they would have like the World's Fair,
and then when it's not here, there's just this this
blank area like you're like, I've been on the seven
train for like an hour. How am I on a
train for an hour? And I'm still in New York
Now it's like you're going to Hogwarts or Oz it was.
It's kind it's kind of like that, I'm coming out
of the tunnel and looking to see the Wizard here
it is. Yeah, I gotta get off at platform nine
and three quarters. Uh No, But that's it's so weird.
(06:35):
But that's what that's what it's like, You're on the
train forever. But who do I want? If you had
to Keith again, ghost of Keith r Nandez hanging out
with me, Hey baba bah uh, I'm gonna tell you something.
You're gonna have a season. No one's gonna see comic.
We're gonna be really bad. It's gonna look like it's
really bad. Lindor's gonna call a meeting. They're gonna move
(06:56):
hitting lead off, Grimace is gonna throw out the first pitch,
talk too, are girls gonna through out the first pitch?
We're gonna hit a big home run every time we
need it in the first week of October, and we're
gonna be in the NLCS. Wow, Okay, Now you're gonna
have a choice of two teams to play, all right,
I don't care. No, you gonna want me. I don't care.
Dodgers of the Padres, I would say, at that point
(07:18):
in April, I would say, give me the Padres, give
me the pipe. The Dodgers has spent a billion dollars
on new Player. Are you kidding? That's a start? If
the Padres could upset the Dodgers. Oh man, Yes, give
me the pad I don't care, give me the Podca
all of this. Yeah, okay, but where am I right now?
I'd rather play the Dodgers, okay, playing the Playing the
(07:41):
Padres would be like playing a Bizarro version of ourselves
on steroids, like as much fun as the Mets like
to have, Like the Padres like to have dangerous fun
and nearly start fights and crazy stuff and try to
get under your skin. Like it's like the Mets, but
it's like it, uh, how do I say this? It's like,
(08:04):
what's what's a movie where someone is the hero and
then it turns out the bad guy is like the
doppel ganger of the heroes that do everything opposite of
the hero, and the heroes got to stop the exact
opposite of themselves. Like that's kind of I mean, I mean,
we've had that with Shizam. That's kind of what it is.
I mean, Spider Man and Venom. Yeah, okay, yeah, Spider
(08:25):
Man three. But that that's kind of what is like.
Playing the Padres is playing a version of ourselves. Are
you for grace in this scenario? The Padres Bullpen is.
I know the Mets were good against the Padres this year,
but the Padres Bullpen's triven they made a couple of
big trades of the deadline. We did not play them
after they made those moves. They're red hot right now.
(08:45):
To tease Machado, the vibe around the team is great, right,
And the Mets even talked about that that one of
their big things at the meeting they had when they
were eleven games under five hundred is one of the
players said, Hey, we gotta find our thing, man, We
got to find our center and what we can rally round.
Every team has their thing, and they talked about the
Dodgers celebration when they get hits. Other teams they all
have their things. We need to find our thing, and
(09:07):
their thing turned out to be grim mis or hawk
to it, whatever it was. But that's who the Padres are.
I want no part of the Padres right now. I
would rather have the Dodgers because a they have all
kinds of pitching problems right now. You don't know who's
gonna The fact that Dave Roberts could go with Yamamoto
tomorrow in game five and instead he says, and maybe
it's a bullpen game. You gave this guy three hundred
(09:30):
bleep and million dollars and he's healthy and you may
not go with him in game five. Well, I get
that it's gamesmanship a little bit, but come on, man,
there's also large questions. He hasn't been very good. Game
three hundred million dollars the last time out. There's questions
of whether he was tipping pitches or was he just
bad three You don't know one hundred million dollars man costs.
(09:51):
At this point, it doesn't matter. But right, but now
we can't go with him, right, that's the whole thing.
Now we can't go with him. Yeah. Yeah, the pitch
pitching is a mess. Their pitching is an absolutely Their look, Jack,
he didn't even get a response of a word. He
gotta sound. I like Jack clarity. Jack Flaherty is a
(10:12):
good pitcher. He is tough, He's got the attitude the
Dodgers love. I'm sure they hope a lot of the
other pitchers have the same kind of attitude. But Jack
Flaherty's not Scooball. You know, he's not you know, he's
a guy you can get it. Sure. And the overuse
of the bullpen, the Dodgers of the bullpen all the time.
They're not hitting like they were. Freddie Freeman is dinged up.
(10:32):
As hard as to say, I would rather play the
Dodgers now watch the Dodge would go hot knife through
butter through the Mets and win four zip. But I've
I've dealt with oh shoy TONI yeah, we just dealt
with Bryce Harper, you know, in the middle of the
Philly lineup all season and in the play and in
the in three out of four games they won at
the end of the season they had to win to
get in the playoffs, and in four games now they
(10:54):
dealt with what do you do with the with the
unpitched to a bull slugger, what do you do with them? Well,
they figured out a way to win three out of
four games pretty easy. Bryce Harper had a big series
and they still won pretty easy. So I feel okay
with how they can handle sho heyo Tani. I feel
like the Mets can handle the Dodgers' pitching staff a
lot better than they can handle the Padres, and the
Padres are hotter. And if I have to pick between
(11:16):
who I'd rather face and not just because it might
be easier to get tickets, because you know, here in
LA to see the Mets Dodgers. But if I had
to pick, because I'll drive to Sandy, can't go, I
don't really care. But if I had to pick, I
would said wanted to play the Dodgers because they seem
much more vulnerable than the Padres do right now, the
exposed under belly. Certainly the question of starting pitching. But
(11:38):
that's the beauty of it, right is we've talked about
the strength of that bullpen depending on where where you're
taking your data point right, what arbitrary date you want
to assign it for the season, the full regular season,
and Dodgers had the fourth best bullpen era in Major
League Baseball and they've been dependent on it the back
(11:59):
half of the season. Game after game, Right, you couldn't
get starters out of the fourth inning. And we talked
about the injuries and for all the money that was
spent at this point, it doesn't matter. It's all hands
on deck, whatever it's gonna take to get twenty seven outs.
And for Yamamoto again, don't know if he was tipping pitches,
(12:21):
don't know if.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
He's just bad, if he's hurt again. Right, all of
that to say, if he play, if he starts, great,
If he doesn't move on, you've got to go figure out.
You Darvish, who was fantastic when they faced him earlier
in this series, Right, the ten to win was you
Darvish went seven strong. That's the guy you got to
figure out, and that's the lineup and Mookie Betts actually
(12:42):
hitting the ball now.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Is a big deal.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Now, Freddie Freeman will see when when he gets back
in the mix, if he gets back in the mix,
all of that. But suffice to say, guys that you
were waiting to see if they were going to be
able to contribute offensively finally did it and Bets. But
for you know, the the fans parting like the Red
(13:06):
Sea would have homers in three straight.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
That gives me.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Some some excitement, some some confidence that offensively you're gonna
be able to make something happen.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
The pitching side, Look.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
If he's got to go to another bullpen game, odds
are you go to the well too often?
Speaker 1 (13:25):
We've talked about it.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Eventually, one of those guys is gonna go bad, right,
the spoiled mayonnaise on the sandwich that you're eating, et cetera. Padres,
they'd live and die on so much emotion, and we've
talked about that for the course of a series. Yeah,
I think I'd rather face them for a series right
now that if I can get on top of them,
(13:48):
they're done because they're they're not gonna respond.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Well, it's look, you're always getting Look, everybody's good. Now
you're not gonna get to a point where, oh boy,
we we gotta really like it. It's not the NCAA
tournament where hey, you got a twelve seat. It's won
a couple of games, it doesn't matter. No, I get
that right, of course, you know, in looking at how
this series is gonna and knowing how big the bullpen is,
and look, Dave Roberts, we talked about it last night.
(14:12):
Best managerial job of his career last night, managing the
bullpen the way he did. They went eight for eight.
He went eight for eight and bullpen changes last night.
He's in bolden. Now he can go to the bullpen
again after a day if I could do it again.
But he did it. But that's what he did it
all season. He didn't I that's gonna you know, that's
not always gonna work, right, That's not always gonna work.
So that's why I feel I feel better about the
(14:35):
Dodgers pitching than the than the Padres pitching. So the
hitting is is, look he's either way. Look could they
heat up? And as you talked about Mookie Bets eating up. Yeah,
But it really comes down to it for me as
the pitching one. I think the Mets can handle the
Dodger pitching much more than they can handle the Padres.
And again, it's like looking in the mirror, like here's
the same vibe, same everything, same. We love each other.
We we love each other. Everybody hates us, but they
(14:56):
love to hate us. And we're also the little team
that can. Like all these things. Is going on with it,
that's in the pilot. Looking at the mirror, man, look
at the mirror. Either way, Sunday afternoon we go to
a game Sunday afternoon or Monday, Monday's a one o'clock star.
Get ready, get ready for the NLC.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
About that little day baseball, and then come in and
uh chronicle the Jets.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
I can't believe. I can't believe I said I'd rather
play the Dodgers, but I would, but I would.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
You're just trying to get Frostbord to jump you so
you can get a huge cash settlement out of iHeart.
Speaker 1 (15:27):

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Fuck Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show is my
best friend, Mike Harmon, you know Livethtirec dot Com Studios
LaVar may be relevant again, though both his kids will
be playing again. Maybe maybe, maybe you don't really believe
Lonzo is playing. No good for him having that player
(16:54):
option though. Every few months though there's a story lons
on my play lons on my playlets. I'll be let's
do this here. Let's see Alex tysher for one day
next week when you work. I will buy that fraud too.
I'm sorry, wuld you just say I just can't help
you this for one day next week? When you work?
You only work a couple of days a week. I've
been here all week. Look, you're the lamar odem of that.
(17:15):
You work a day, you're off two days. You work
a day, you're off a day. Okay, it's a lot
of stress. I hope you know. Besides push it. In
the next ten seconds, can you name three songs by
Salt and Peppa that push it? Yes? Right now? Go
oh okay, I'm just gonna let you know it be
the worst on a game show. Okay ready, Alex, No,
(17:37):
I don't know it really none of your business. And
come on, dude, now, the only one I know that
off the top is like what a man?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Right?
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Yeah, it's like one. Yeah, what a man is? What
about shop ye shoop good one? Okay, expressions, you know
it's all about expressions. We just let's talk about sex. Yeah,
very good, there you go. Let's talk about Jason and me.
Whoa America say? You and I on camera? Try to
(18:07):
try to do something a little bit differ. Now this
Pam is Pam is worried about the Tigers right now,
positivity man. Pam's whole family is nervous as hell about
the Tigers right now. Like they all feel good that
Schoobl's going in Game five, but they're all like, but
we gotta win. We should have won today. We got
we all we had to get with seven outs and
we couldn't do it. No, they're all nervous as hell.
And I'm like, hey, I understand. I was nervous too once,
(18:31):
But the meds are in the NLCS. Now I'm not nervous.
It's untime. But the Tigers don't have grimace, No they don't.
And they also can't hit. So there they got school
ball those two things. But right exactly like that.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Used with Skirball Skirball Center here in Los Angele Museum.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Nice, that's good. The Guardians didn't really get a big
treat for winning. It's like, hey, hey, Jason, finish your dinner.
Gonna give you a treat. Okay, what's treat? Asparagus? Well,
I don't want that. Hey guess what, Cleveland?
Speaker 2 (18:57):
You won?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Yet you get to read school ball in game five?
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Ah?
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Now is there bacon wrapping around that asparagus? Bacon wrapped?
Tarik schoo ball?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Because asparagus roasted with a little bit of bacon, or
the proper seasoning is good in and of itself. Maybe
it's tempura. I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Say you get me hungry now you talk about you
can't talk about tempura, and at this time a night,
not expect me to say, okay, let's get some Okay,
I can't expect that. It's nine if you how can
we pull that off? Though? At night? I don't know.
You're the one that brought up tempora, so you know
you find it brought up. You're smart guy. Oh hey,
let's out. Let's go ahead. Oh yeah, go ahead, find
(19:38):
a place to deliver. Let's go. Wow, let's go. Come on,
come on, come on, let's go. I know a place
there is the greatest mister sushi pizza here in the valley.
Sushi pizza. That sounds good, like like what like like
with tuna on its Yeah, okay, interesting, sounds expensive? Just oh,
it's totally expensive. You have Harmon's credit card. Just order
(19:59):
it up. It's all good. You gotta order it up,
you know, get like and get like three pies. It's
gotta be like the feeling. Oh yeah, there's a sushi pie.
It's got to be like forty bucks a pie. Get
three of them? Yeah, why not? And just like eat
them real sloppy like peace falls on the floor. You
don't care. Harmon paid for it. I don't care. Here's
a piece of all this stuff is falling off it.
I take one bite, throw it away, pizza. One bite.
(20:22):
That's good. They don't pay me what they pay you.
You live next to jj Abrams. Everything would have been
fine if you didn't say Tempora. But you decided to
say chock it one too far. Yes, you'd say, didn't
do it. But then I took it to Tempora, and
suddenly thinking about it, they got you all fired up.
Bag but tempo, Oh, I got Tempora. I'm thinking about
(20:43):
the sizzle, thinking about after I eat Tempora anytime That's
the thing is anytime I eat them, you say tempora.
It's like, what is that when when a when a
smell is triggered in your head? Like, all I think
of is response after I after I, you know, eat
sushi or have to I go home in my clothes,
have that smell that? Oh my clothes smells so good.
(21:03):
And I'll sit on the couch like and Pam will say,
don't you want to take them off and change now?
I want to sit here and smell the meal for
a while longer. I want to sit here and smell
like tempora. Betty comes up and starts licking my hands
all the time. Oh, you know that's the best. Ah,
I smell like food. My mom can say it all
the time. When I used to go out and come
in at night later it back get home like minute shoes. Oh,
you smell like food and cigarettes. And I didn't smoke
(21:24):
because I was out at the bar. When you could
smoke in bars, did you always smell like food and cigarettes? Yeah? Okay,
I'm going to bed, all right, Good night, I had
a good night. What do you want from me?
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Mom?
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Cigarettes? Uh? You know who else had a good night? Yeah?
They did? In a game that defied logic how this
game was that close. The forty nine Ers even their
record at three and three. They beat the Seahawks in
a game that they were in control of for the
vast majority of it. Yet still it was a one
(21:56):
score game midway through the second half, and they hold
on to win thirty six to twenty four. In a
game in which Brock Purty threw three touchdowns and the
forty nine Ers ran for two hundred and twenty eight yards.
Gino Smith was a touchdown and two picks and the
Seahawks ran for fifty two yards. And somehow this game
(22:16):
was in doubt to the midway point of the fourth.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
You get the dynamic kicks off return for a touchdown. No,
you get a fumbled punt that, even upon review, doesn't
go to the forty nine ers. They would have had
a very short field the punch went in. Yeah, I mean,
you get a couple of breaks that go your way.
They did have, did the Seahawks a couple of big
drives even before the half?
Speaker 1 (22:38):
In batching the clock.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Management and everything, they still had a chance. But dk
Metcalf with his fluorescent green cleats out of bound. Smith
Settle for a field goal where the white cleats gotta
are the white cleats?
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Wear are the white cleats now? The big takeaway for
the night look, Seahawks are now three and three. They
started off three and zero. This is to be exc right.
The series is one of those teams where all they
started to look how good they are they fit out.
The Seahawks are the same. This is the kind of
team they've been the last couple of years. They're a
five hundred is team. They have figured things out offensively
where they are a dangerous team, but they still can't
run the football as consistently enough to be able to
(23:16):
win big right, So they started off with a couple
of wins, but now they're starting to come back to
earth a little bit. For the forty nine ers, I
feel the best I felt about them all season long.
All the concern about the forty nine ers, Look at
where they are there. How are the forty nine ers
two and three? Everything that went into it is starting
to get solved. The forty nine ers. When you come
off two three postseason runs in a row where you
(23:38):
get all the way to the Super Bowl, the NFC
Championship Game, sometimes the beginning of the next season, you
start off slow. Not an excuse, but just hey, we're
coming off years where we're playing deep into January, September
and October. The October really are in our thing, and
we need some time to get going. And the forty
nine ers, i am sure, thought, well, this division is
(23:59):
still there for us. We're still the best team in
the division. But they also learned that you know, going
into a season in which your left tackle doesn't show
up until the week before the season starts, and your
number one receiver doesn't show up until a week and
a half and sign a contract week and a half
before the season starts. When the number one running back
in the game is lost to injury, Yes, you're lucky.
(24:19):
You got Jordan Mason to jump in and he's been
really good, but he's not the same dynamic with Christian
McCaffrey out of the backfield. You need some time to
figure things out. And the forty nine ers learned a
lesson of Oh, we just thought, because we've all been
together for the last couple of years, we're just gonna
show up and start winning right away. No, that's not
the case. You played a team that was over matching
the Jets okay, but that's been your biggest win up
(24:39):
until now. But I don't have any concern for them
because they're getting back to being the team they are.
And this is Brock Perdy playing really well. He made
some big throws to I know you're a big fan
of some of the throws he made. Being able to
just steamroll the Seahawks defense and run the football the
way they did. Isaac Grendo had a seventy five yard
run in the fourth quarter. They are now getting back
(25:00):
to being the forty nine ers. It just took a
little bit. Sometimes the beginning of the season ills are
just that. Sometimes the beginning of the season ills poor
tend to two. This is a bad year. Sometimes it's
hey for a really good team, that's a veteran team.
We just need a little bit of time to get going.
That's all the forty nine you need a little bit
of time. Now they're turning back into the forty nine.
But that's just it.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
You've got a handful of organizations, organizations with hockey starting
that you trust that their personnel moves, their decision making,
all of that that over time, it bears out that
they have a winning formula. Can you overcome a ton
of injuries. No, and certainly the forty nine ers have
a couple. We have no idea if or when McCaffrey's
(25:43):
going to come back. Depending on who you read in
terms of Internet doctors, what he's been diagnosed with might
be the he takes three snaps and it's inevitable that
his legs are both gonna pop like band aids, you know,
like rubber bands.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Like back.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Now I'm having flashbacks to the Bears wide receiver. It
was a Wendell Davis. Davis, Yeah, tore both on the
same thing that like a goo stick, right, yeah, Wendell Davis.
Now having those flashbacks, but that it's inevitable. Maybe it is,
Maybe it isn't. Jordan Mason leaves with the shoulder injury,
comes back for one more carry. I know folks were
(26:21):
salty because he is over under for yardage in what
looked like a it was becoming a very tasty run,
advantageous kind of game was in the eighties. He finished
with seventy three, yeah, seventy three on his nine carries.
Guerando next man up goes over one hundred yards. I
think he ended up just under one hundred because he
(26:42):
took a negative carry after that seventy six yard run.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
But either way, like the look we talked about with
the Chiefs, right, you're not expecting them to come out
guns blazing in September like the Patriots all those years
before them. No, you're playing for January, you're playing for
fed You don't need to be on all cylinders in
the first quarter of the season and all of that.
The business that needed to be attended to, that also
(27:09):
plays a part in it. But you need continuity, and
you need everybody healthy and available to you come December,
and that you're playing your best football as you get
into January. So not worried about that. Perty had himself
a big game, three touchdowns, two fifty five Samuel first
wide receiver in NFL history to have twenty rushing touchdowns
(27:30):
and twenty receiving touchdowns in a career. You see the
big play threat that he is. Brandon Ayuk only two
catches for thirty seven yard, It doesn't matter. He doesn't
need to be a superhero. They can spread the ball
around and look, Juwan Jennings has become a pretty good
guy to throw the football.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
And how many times did you have Bosa's name Yea
mentioned on the broad fifteen Pressures to Night, So yeah,
if the'se he like all of these things to say,
you're playing for the end game, you're not playing for
early October. And this was a big game, obviously division
division game. You want to put it under your belt,
especially coming off the loss that you had to Arizona.
(28:08):
But suffice to say, nobody's running away and hiding in
the NFC. So as long as you're there and you
make the tournament, you're feeling pretty good about the talent
that you've assembled. So for anybody that was getting ready
to jump ship off the forty nine Ers after Sunday's loss,
because certainly there were a lot of thought pieces, oh,
this is what happens. Brock Purty, he's just that brought.
(28:30):
Perty's not just a guy. He's not just a system quarterback.
You can do that all you want and scream about
that and all the other hot take theater things that
people want to have, but forty nine ers will be
there when it comes time to dance when it counts, and.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
This is definitely a big moment for them. You know,
if they lost another game on Thursday night, you're talking
about then being oh for the division and oh and
four in the NFC where you know a tie breaker
is coming on later in the season, Like this was
a huge game for them tonight, but seeing what they
did in a short week was probably great for them
to play in a short week, just like it was
good for Dallas to get short to work. Yeah, and
this is this is the This was a big, big
(29:08):
night for them, and they came through. And I feel
a lot better about the forty nine ers than I
did the last few weeks. Okay, they just need sometimes
you just need some time. We get some time here, they.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Are time to play football, right, it's mid October now,
I mean, come on in September, you feel it out,
because I mean, look, every team that you're looking at,
going all right, how much? Because you're still asking the
question for the Jets, right, Aaron Rodgers rounding into shape,
getting that continuity with players whatever, forty nine ers coming
off the banquet circuit, right, everybody, Oh, look at Travis
(29:37):
Kelcey's fat and slow and what about nine catches seventy
yards later? Anybody asking that question after week five? No,
nobody's asking that question after week five.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Exit out about a Fresca Exit Swalling Dome. The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmen live from the Tirech dot
Com studios. Time now to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports and special delivery. Steve to
Seger has some breaking news going on as we get
set for the final baseball game in the National League
before the Mets play in the NLCS. Steve o programming note.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Tomorrow there is a Game five Padres at Dodgers on
Fox TV and their best of five NL Division series.
The Dodgers tonight have named a starting pitcher. It is
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, going up against you Darvish of San Diego.
The Dodgers said today the first baseman, Freddie Freeman, is
due to play despite the bad ankle, but shortstot Miguel
Rojas will not due to his groin injury. The Mets
(30:31):
will travel to Southern California. You'd open the NLCS Sunday
night on Fox TV, with Game two on Monday afternoon,
Game three Wednesday night in New York. I believe Monday
we would have a day game Mets playoff, and then
Yankees in the ALCS, and then Jets Monday Night football.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
He's a big day in New York on Monday, Huge
Giants on Sunday, and then a Mets game on Sunday night.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
By the way, Yankees advanced winning in Game four of
their Ale Division series at Kansas City three one on,
eliminating the Royals. Garrett Cole the winning pitcher. He went
seven innings. Cleveland forced a Game five, which they will
host on Saturday against Tiger's ace Trek Schooble. The Guardians
won at Detroit tonight five to four. Top of the seventh.
There was a two run pinch homer by David Frye.
(31:15):
He also bunted in an insurance run in the top
of the ninth. The Minnesota Twins are exploring the sale
of the team. The pole Head family has owned them
for the last forty years. You mentioned all the pressures
for Nick Bosa. San Francisco did win tonight at Seattle
thirty six twenty four. In fact, the NFL says there
have only been two players so far this year with
double digit quarterback pressures in a game. It was Aiden
(31:38):
Hutchinson against the Seahawks a couple weeks back with ten
Nick Bosa against the Seahawks tonight with fourteen fourteen pressures.
He was beating the tackle like a drum tonight. In fact,
since Bosa entered the league five years ago, no other
players had double digit pressures in a game more than
(31:59):
four times, and yet for this it's seven now in
Bosa's young career, thirty six to twenty four to the
final forty nine. Ers running back Jordan Mason did leave
with the shoulder injury. Returned to start the second half,
got one carry, left again Brock Purty three touchdown passes,
two to George Kittle. Raiders running back Samir White missed
another practice today with a groin injury, and wide receiver
(32:20):
Jacoby Myers was out again with a bad ankle. Tampa
Bay running back Rashad White did not practice due to
a foot injury. Giants wide receiver Malik Neighbors missed practice
again with a concussion. The Jets demoted offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson practice fully today after the oblique injury,
but running back Jonathan Taylor did not practice due to
(32:41):
his bad ankle, and wide receiver Michael Pittman did not practice.
What a game one of the WNBA Finals in New York. Tonight,
Minnesota came back to win it in overtime in a
thriller ninety five ninety three. They were down eighteen in
this game. In fact, they were down to New York
fifteen did fourth quarter and came back to win it.
(33:02):
Brianna Stewart, New York Star, missed a free throw at
the end of regulation and missed a layup at the
end of overtime. She was six of twenty one from
the floor. Sabrina Escue in defeat eight of twenty six
from the floor. So how about this steat? I've run
across as far as New York area pro basketball teams
since the Knicks in the nineteen ninety four NBA Finals
(33:24):
took that late.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Lead, Go New York O, New York O. That did
not work out well.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Since that late lead of the Knicks in nineteen ninety four,
New York area pro basketball teams in finals now have
a record of five and twenty five, including tonight.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Back to you throw the Liberty under the bus.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
Like that, they're two and eleven out of that. You
Nett's don't forget. I've been to the finals, had lost
certainly I saw. Isn't it's best of nine this year?
Right in the WNBA finals picking they are For those
who didn't hear, they did announce before the game, it's
going to be up to a best of seven for
the WNBA five titles and.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Then the winner. Yeah, thank you, Steve. The Jason's Show

I would tell you you could never go to Philadelphia again,
because that's normally your line on me.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
You don't go to Philadelphia. He wouldn't go anyway, So
it doesn't matter. The Jason smithser with Mike Carmon Live
from the Tirac dot Com Studios. Well tonight in sports, like,
we had a big game on Thursday night. Football, we
had a big baseball night. Big night in the WNBA finals.
Oh yeah, there is one team that are clearly the
biggest winners tonight. Who are they? They are this team?
Speaker 2 (36:05):
High fly to center?
Speaker 1 (36:07):
This is it? Judge is there. He makes a catch
ball game over American League Division Series over Yankees win.
The Yankees win. John Sterling Yankees Radio Network back saying, hey, no,
I retired, but I really want to do the playoffs
one more time. Guys, Okay, so let me just do this.
(36:27):
What a boss move? Man? Come on, like he gets
to cut it. But I mean, look at it.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
It's not unprecedented. I mean, look at Francessa. Not that
he's in a boot, but he did the same thing.
I'm done. I'm not dead. I want to get back.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
I know all you other guys have done games, but
I'm gonna come back here for the playoffs. Uh.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
No.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Bigger winner than the Yankees for a couple of reasons.
Number One, yes, they finish off the Royals, they move
on to the Alcs. Number two, they're big winners because
now Detroit and Cleveland have to play Saturday, and the
one pitch you don't want to face, nobody wants to
face in all of baseball schools, gotta pitch Saturday to
get the Tigers into the Alcs. So if school will
(37:07):
pitches Saturday, what are you gonna see it next next week?
Game three? Probably not so schedule. So you're looking at
the Yankees, can get out, be up two zip and
all of a sudden, Schools gotta save the season coming home.
So the Yankees are big winners there, but nothing has
changed for them since the first round of the playoffs.
(37:27):
In anything, the pressure is amplified because the two teams
that are most likely to send them home have been
out of the playoffs now for a few days. The
Astros and the Orioles. These are the two teams or
the Yankees kryptonite. And we say this as Superman the
Original is playing on one of our TVs, Margo Kidder,
And this is a huge deal because if the Yankees
(37:50):
don't make it to the World Series this year, they'll
never What other year are they gonna go where the
two teams are gonna give them the most trouble, the
Astros and the Orioles. They don't have to play their
alway out of the playoffs. I get that. Okay, yeah,
you're playing good teams now, no matter what, it's all
you can slice up. But the Tigers are a limited team, right,
they can't really hit, they can't run, they pitch really well,
But yeah, the Tigers would be an incredible underdog. And
(38:12):
as good as the Guardians are, they'd be an incredible
underdog to the Yankees. No matter how good the bullpen is,
they'd be a big underdog to the Yankees. If the
Yankees can't get to the World Series this year, I
don't know what year they're ever gonna do it. There
is immense pressure on them and nothing has changed for
them from the first beginning of the playoffs when you
watch the Astros and the Guardians go out, but clearly,
(38:33):
not only are they the big winners tonight because they won,
but now if the Tigers somehow move on no Scooba
til Game three, It's like everything is lining up for
the like And this is what pisses me off, because
everything lines up for the Yankees. Well, the Mets need
home runs in the ninth inning every single game to
win just to move on in the playoffs. But the
Yankees are, oh yeah, we're not really sweating. We get
(38:54):
the Royals and Bobby wit juniors won for seventy five
in the left seventy five at batch of the series.
No things lining up for the Yankees. All the Astros lost,
all the Orioles left, Oh, school's gotta go in Game five. Yeah,
we're not even taking postgame showers. We're not even extending ourselves.
But the Mets need everything. Blood is pouring from the
temples of the Mets as they hit home runs late
(39:15):
and just save it all the way to the end.
They need every single thing to claw on. But the
Yankees are like, oh, you know, we're all good man,
everything is, but they.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Were scratching and clawing for every inch. Meanwhile, the Yankees,
I mean, the big drama from tonight was Vulpe versus
Garcia at second base, where Jazz Chisholm says, hey, Garcia
was trying to hurt vult Volpe has the forearm, talking
about their Instagram posts and whatever else, trying to take
it off to social media and having fun with that.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Congratulations.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Former White Sox hurler Carlos Rodan, You know, I got
the little investment there for the Yankee side of things.
But yeah, sometimes the stuff does line up. We've had
that happen plenty of times with other tea emes in
every sport, where you just happen to run a path where.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
All the stars are hurt. Right.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
We certainly had that in the NBA a number of times,
like every round their star player was hurt.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Well, that's the way those are the shakes man. Sometimes
it works that way. And for your Mets, look, it
was a year of living dangerously. You were eleven games
under five hundreds.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Right, you were dead and buried, and all of a
sudden you've got sternsy and everything that they did turned
into gold. Right, Colin Lindor the best player that you
would want on your squad right now. And that's the case.
You've got, you know, a couple of guys that are
hot at the plate. For the Yankees, Yeah, the field
(40:41):
opened up. They didn't have to face the plucky Orioles
again or the Astros, who suddenly would have figured things out.
Even though they've lost seven straight home playoff games. Would
you believe that?
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Yeah, the Royals hadn't won at home now since September eighth.
After losing tonight, it was nine home games. Everything works
out for the Yankees. They still got to go win
another series before they face you coming up next, mate,
the star team that needs to be broken up
