(00:49):
On a night in college football where we could be
seeing some upsets, some late games, some crazys stuff going
on Western Michigan right now would potentially upset Wisconsin. Look
at Western Michigan. Oh, my niece is so excited, living
and dying with every place she goes there. But Wisconsin
(01:11):
does have a touchdown lead with about four minutes left
to go. But at least the most likely cover. So
there is that.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Second down and goal on the Western Michigan two as
we speak.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Wow, you did that four minutes you said that like
second down and nine. You kind of did that in
an angry Musburger way.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Second out and goal second nine. Well, you know, I'm
practicing because eventually we're gonna get the call. With all
the expansion for broadcasting, Fox has to lean on us eventually,
the second dugging us for too long. I'm looking at you,
oh man, all you guys on the lot, Let's go.
I'm first spent and harmon to shine.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
ACC after dark Stanford and Stanford. I couldn't say with
a straight face it's ACC after dark sord Leeds TCU
fourteen to ten right now, just before halftime. I don't know,
like that ACC logo looks so odd, I know, doesn't it, right?
(02:08):
I mean really, Stanford and and and it's just it's
just crazy that. Okay, so they're coming, You're flying all
the way to play these games, and suddenly now yes
we're proud members of the ACC. Okay, all right, great,
that's that. I'm just salty that the PAC twelve is
no more. Yeah, yeah, And I have.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
No skin like skin in the in the in the game, right.
I didn't go there. I went to Santa Clara from
my grad school. Obviously Northwestern the undergrad but you know,
I guess the ex went to Stanford for grad school.
So we're on campus a while. But didn't mean I
loved the school. It was just a place we were
at for a while, so, you know, but on Friday nights,
(02:50):
it always gave us something chaotic in the world of
college football and college basketball. And now I got none
of it. It's now acc yeah, acc after Dark Stanford.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I hope it's as crazy as Pac twelve. After Dark
was No dark was pretty fun. We got a lot
of wild games during our time.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
It's like, hey, Jason, it's forty eight forty two, make
sure you put that on. It's gotten insane, and it's
now it's now ten forty five. Is it gonna finish
before we get off air and go into the weekend.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
It's Bertie frot of us next. You know, First of all,
is anybody at the game? Well no, not really, Okay,
we can't talk about it if no one's there. If
this is like a game, is this like like that
White Sox Day game earlier? This week where the sorry buddy,
I haven't mentioned did you see it? Did you see
the shot right before the game today? It wasn't much better?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yeah, was set that day game earlier in the week
where legitimately in the photo you could circle the individual
heads like you get a section and you get a section.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
It's it's it's brutal out there. Yeah. Do you think
that they tried to fool everybody before the game today
going oh hey, oh Chicago playing New York. We're gonna
get to see Aaron Judge. Also, no, no, no, it's
the Mets that are in time. Oh man, No, you
wrote New York on the ticket and you did it
in black and white and he used the pinstripe. Doesn't matter.
(04:21):
We could put whatever fought we want on this ticket.
It says White Sox versus New York. It doesn't matter.
We don't put any putting names on there. I thought
it was the Yankees. Now I gotta go watch the Mets.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
It's like an unlicensed trading card. It just says New
York and maybe it has an A or an N
next to the New York.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
What does that? What does that end mean? It's just
extra for New York. I want you to know it's
your doesn't mean anything else like usually do A for
American and N for National. No, no, it's New York.
And want you to know what new really, it's just
it's just it's just to make you feel better about
it so you understand new for New York that that's
all A picture of a trumpet. The Jason Smith Show
(05:04):
with Mike Carmon Live from the tirach dot CoV Studios,
biggest story of the night, proving that Hey, even though
we're into August, we're into college football. Caitlyn Clark is
gonna be page one when she has big nights. She
is that kind of transformative athlete like show Hey Otani,
like Patrick Mahomes for their respective sports, like Lebron James.
(05:28):
That's Caitlyn Clark and Tonight, in the thirty ninth meeting
that the Fever have had with Angel Rees in the Sky,
the Fever continue to stay hot and they thump the
Sky one hundred eighty one in Chicago, Caitlyn Clark a
career high thirty one and twelve assists. This is the
final time that they will play the Chicago Sky in
(05:49):
the regular season. Angel Reaes does get a double double,
that's gonna be the headline. Angel Reachs other double double. Yeah,
well she barely got there and she was in the
game the last four minute. It's of a twenty point
burial just to get it. So let's understand their stat Patty,
this is not Angel Reaches with a double double and
she's no. They got thumped the entire way. And first
things first, I think we're done with the Rookie of
(06:11):
the Year conversation. I think no matter who you are,
whether you're ESPN with your crazy ass computer with numbers
that are trying to say, we have Caitlin Clark second
to Angel Rees on our rookie rankings. Really really, I mean,
come on, man, the race is over. It's so over.
Clark is a Rookie of the Year. And don't get
and I know on the broadcast they talked about how
it's tough to compare players different positions. Yes, absolutely, I
(06:35):
do agree, But Angel Reese is a rebounder. Tell me
one other thing she's doing this year besides rebounding at
an elite level, and what she does is great, right,
what she rebounds great? Take away the offensive rebounds from
her own misses. She's still a phenomenal rebounder, but it's
what she does every night. She's three for ten, four
for eleven, four for sixteen from the field. She's a
(06:55):
she's a one dimensional star. She's a rebounder, and it's
a good thing. She wore the Dennis Rodman jersey to
game tonight because we told you two and a half
weeks ago she's Dennis Rodman. I thought she'd be more Draymond,
but right now she's Rodman getting rebounds and that's it.
So she's embracing that. I hope that we get credit
and we get a little bit of money from whatever
jersey sales come out of this, because we told you
(07:15):
two and a half weeks ago, Hey, she's Dennis Rodman.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
If something else, can we get the appearance on the podcast?
We could use a little of that notoriety.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Sure, I'll and I'll buy Angel Reese's pieces. I'll eat
Reese's pieces. I don't care. That's yeah, I love Reese's pieces.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
No, and then we get a signed jersey or you know,
to give to the nice people. So I don't know,
whatever the case may be. But and now, and Shaq's
gonna show up because evidently like he's like a father
figure now too, because he was at the game tonight
and hang out with Yeah, with the bulls first round
pick sitting next to Shaq got no run. So yeah,
(07:53):
elite rebounder, fire in the belly, not afraid to get
after it physically, I.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Mean, all those great things.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
But minus three thousand before after this game ends and
Angel reset fifteen to one.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, it's it's not even close. Like the Rookie of
the Year race is over, the only race that quite
honestly now becomes the thing, and people's heads are gonna explode.
Is there are two choices for WNBA MVP, Asia Wilson
and Caitlin Clark. Well, there's third.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
There's a third currently in the betting odds, and I
sent you the current odds in just a few moments ago.
If you check your your mentions from me, you've got
Asia Wilson is your favorite right now minus thirty five
hundred at thirty to one, you've got Nafiza Collier of
the Links twenty point eight nine point nine, three point
(08:48):
seven two blocks a game and they're twenty three and nine. Yeah,
so she's there. And then Caitlin Clark seventy five to one.
Should we drive to the desert?
Speaker 1 (08:58):
That's just gonna get closer. Right, I want to see
do any writers have the guts to vote for her
for MVP, because quite honestly, MVP is not Player of
the Year. And at this point, is Caitlin Clark as
good as Asia Wilson. Now, Asia Wilson still is the
best player in the WNBA. She is, She's proven it,
and she proves it every night. She's in her prime.
She's the best player. But the MVP is not a
(09:21):
Player of the Year award, right, It's it the whole
thing with with MVP. With Major League Baseball, people forget
most valuable player. If you want to talk about that,
then hey, there should be a Player of the Year
award itself. That hey, player of the Year, and then MVP.
I don't know why they don't do that, but they don't.
But when you talk about MVP, uh, who's more valuable
(09:42):
to their team this year? Right? Asia Wilson's fantastic. But
it's not like they're going crazy in the standings, right,
Caitlin Clark, This team has not made the playoffs since
seven years. They started off one in eight when she
was getting used to the WNBA. Now they're five hundred
and they're thumping teams and she's the best point in
the NBA. So you tell me about value when it
(10:03):
comes to a team, right, It's closer than you think
between Asia Wilson and her. Collier's a great player too.
Colors are a great player as well. But you're talking
about lifting a team that has been absolutely abominable since
twenty sixteen. You can't in a twelve team league, you
can't make the playoffs in seven eight years. That's difficult, man,
That's a that's a tough thing to come back from. Yes,
when you do pick that high after a bunch of years,
(10:24):
you want to get the picks right, well, back to.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Back years getting Boston followed by by Caitlyn Clark.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yeah, but you get Caitlyn Clark here and look where
you're at, what she has led them to. Yeah, there's
really for me, there's only two choices for MVP, and
it's a lot closer than you think. Wilson Caitlyn Clark. Look,
you think Wilson doesn't know what Kitlyn Clark did tonight. Hey,
I'm gonna come out and have a big night tonight.
Like she knows it. She likes being the best player
in the WNBA. She likes that. She likes that status
(10:51):
and you can tell it follows her around wherever she goes.
She had a huge night tonight twenty six, sixteen and
five as the Aces beat the Look the dream are terrible,
but still another big night tonight for her. She had
five blocks and five assists. Like this is a big
five five five five five five five night. But this
race is closer than you think between Caitlyn Clark and
Asian Wilson. And there's still eight games left to go.
(11:14):
There's a way to see how teams are gonna finish.
And the Aces right now they've got a four game
lead over there was over the Fever. The Fever keep winning.
They're hot, everybody's playing well. Caitlyn Clark has helped unlock
Boston and you've seen Mitchell is now playing terrific and
Lexi Hall is scoring every other game. She's the lamar
Odom of the WNBA. Suddenly this has become this has
(11:36):
become a thing. Man.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
I'm telling you it is closer than it is now.
People are looking up Lamar like that. We'll see what
headlines find you first, I gotta explain the millennials who
lamar Otem is. You're right, Well, I was watching a guy,
you know, me and my my training card World. A
cool product came out and they were breaking down and
there was an autograph of Kellen Winslow the charger in there,
(12:01):
and the guy made a comment about ah, and then
he had the kid and someone had to explain, Yeah, no, no,
don't go. Don't go look in for other details. So sometimes,
you know, you get the one headline, you might get
the alternate, depending on your past search history what it
decides to feed you along the way. But because we
(12:21):
do love that these teams and everybody likes to troll
each other, because that's the headline that's going around between
the New York posts and everybody. Caitlin Clark and Fever
win troll fans, you know, of what is it? Trolls
fans and Angel Rees showdown the Fever two hours ago.
This is from there at Indiana. Fever drops a career
(12:43):
high thirty one points and twelve assists in the win
over Chicago. They don't even bother to put the score
in just in the win over Chicago. Would have thought
they'd you know, hey, by the way, because they've got
a great picture of her, you know, looking down court
whatever isoed and they've got the leader and the dat all.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
But here here's what they decided to put in the
rest of the text.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
First player with thirty points or more, twelve assists and
five to three point makes in WNBA history, and then
next WNBA leading eleventh double double by a guard this season,
wait for it, one more line, rookie of the year.
(13:27):
Everybody's leaning in at this point Wilson for what she needs.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
You've got ange'l Reese getting.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Substituted back of the game right where she was in
fouled trouble and out of control at times, and came
back in got her double double. And look, it's stat padding.
We all recognize it. But three weeks from now, if
there's the twenty eighth double double of the year, it's
just another one. It just goes down and you'll remember
it tonight, you'll write a column about it, maybe you'll
(13:57):
write a mad tweet. The next game they play. That'll
be a distant memory unless we start having more Clark
Reese discussions, because then it comes back in based on
the burial that you had tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
But I just love that. You know, the fever are
now on board. Let's go.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Sure, he went to social media. Teams of professional teams
get into it. Look, the college kids, I expect it,
but the professional teams when they lean in. I mean,
that's why I can't wait for Chargers season.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Are you kidding?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
If harball ball works at its maximum, can you imagine
how snarky and hateful that that account could become.
Speaker 1 (14:34):

Speaker 4 (16:28):

here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on
our show.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
You don't interrupting our promo.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Yeah, he wasn't talking about you. You took those clips
totally out of context.

out and beat you.
Speaker 2 (16:48):

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Carmon Livethetirack dot Com Studios Well Show. Hey,
Otani has just hit a solo home run, his forty
third home run of the season. Dodgers now lead the
Diamondbacks ten to five. Of more on this game coming
(17:22):
up in a bit. Clayton Kershaw leaving in a shocking
turn of events in the second ending after giving up
a home run to Corbyn Carroll where two of his
pitches were clocked at eighty five and sixty seven, the
Dodgers calling it a toe injury. But for Otani his
forty third home run to go along with forty three
stolen forty two stolen bases. We're not into September yet,
(17:47):
and he is on pace to be a fifty fifty player.
He may get to forty three forty three before Sunday.
I wouldn't doubt he gets on and steals a base tomorrow.
So you're talking about being forty three forty three by
September first, not forty forty needing to be seven and
seven oh seven and seven, seven and seven in the
last month of the season.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Think about that fifty to fifty year a guy who
coming into the year obviously great anticipation, the Monster Contract,
the greatest structured contract in the history ever for a team,
to where the Dodgers just kind of waved to the
rest of their Major League brethren, it's kind of like
(18:28):
the end of Jerry Maguire, The Jmore. Why don't we
have a relationship.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Like that they try to help each other.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
You know, the awkward man hug thing going on there.
Former Fox Sports radio host and now Lakers owner j
Moore j Morre's are our friend. Yeahs. As part of things,
it's that same thing. It's like, how come we can't
get guys to do this the old Brady thing is
like cause they're just different, Okay. And he makes a
lot of money in other marketing sales and endorsements that
(19:01):
he doesn't doesn't need the cash. Now it's long term
viability and keep the team healthy.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
And remember he couldn't pitch. That's the important part of
all of it. So coming in, it's like, what's he
gonna do. He's just gonna set records and create, you know,
a whole new way of looking at things. And I
know on our local station AM five seven e LA
Sports a lot of conversation about the fact that the
dude was just down the road all those years, and
(19:29):
it was like he was invisible all right, Blayton Anaheim
all those years, Like who is this guy? I've ever
seen it before. Let's get to the ballpark. He's magnificent.
What did you say his name was?
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Again? So and now everybody knows his dog. Wait, wait,
wait till the rike, just the decoy bobblehead, not night
comes up. It's just it's gonna be decoy with the
ball in his mouth, like looking like he's running towards
the plate. That's gonna be the bobble decoy is gonna
have his own bobble at night.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Well, theaness of Twitter, because you know you'd still have
to laugh at it that he was named decoy, uh,
because you know it's a diversion away from that story
that followed him into the year with his translator.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Well that is true if you hat this is a
really bad story. Oh look at the puppy. Oh well,
look at the puppy. But wait, this is a really
bad Oh but he's such an adorable puppy. But there's
what was I just talking about. I can't remember. Oh,
look at this puppy. Let's just play with the puppy.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
As we always say, Smith never fall to bad strategy Man.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
The Jason smithsho with Mike Carmen Live the Tirech dot
Com Studios.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
You know.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
I always blew off a lot of the drama with
the Eagles, right and Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts because
I just thought it was stupid. I thought the dysfunction
was stupid, and and the relationship between Sirianni and Hurts
and all the drama we've heard about the last few months,
and Sirianni had to stand up and talk to the
(20:59):
team to to you know, keep his standing and maybe
he's on a hey, this could be his last year
with the Eagles if things go badly can't get along
with his quarterback, and I just thought it was stupid.
I'm like, this is just dumb, Like I really he
can't get along with this with his quarterback, and and
Hurts is having all kinds of like it's just dumb.
(21:19):
Like I thought the whole time, I thought it was dumb.
And then Jalen Hurts said something yesterday and it made
me understand how chaotic and how real and how real
and how even stupider this was because of what Jalen
Hurts said when he was asked about what he's excited
for this season. Right again, I blew off the Eagles
(21:39):
a lot because I'm like, ah, I think we're manufacturing
a lot. There's X, Y and Z happening, and is
it really this bad. No, no, no. This story yesterday
made me understand just how just how weird and how
chaotic things are in Philadelphia and how yes, everything you
hear about what could happen to Sirianni and Hurts this year,
it's all true. This is is Jalen Hurtschman day ago
(22:01):
talking about how he feels how excited he is because
he's learning more going into this season about a lot
of things. Offensively, take a listen, you know.
Speaker 5 (22:11):
I'm think in the end, I think when you look
at this upcoming season and what you have seen from
the years past is just different autonomy in different places.
You know, we had a great player here Tis and
Kelsey who took on a lot of responsibility and result
of that, I was told not to worry about a
lot of things. My eagerness to learn and all of
that over the years, you know, kind of was haughty
(22:31):
because of who we act. But but not times are
different and I'm excited for that journey.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
When I heard that, I said, You've there's no, no,
no way, no way, because that's the most asinine thing
a head coach could really do. As much love and respect,
Jason Kelsey's one of the most respective. For as long
as I've been doing this, Jason, I don't think I've
ever had people talk about a player with such reverence.
(22:56):
Everybody I love Jason clearly, Podcast world loves it well.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
But understand you know that he's funny and smart ass
and whatever else, and you know leans into the rugby
team and whatever else. No, no, no, but just as
a leader, uh and teammate, he was always had that reputation.
But this, this, this goes a little bit beyond this
is Look, there is it.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
It blew me away to hear Jalen Hurts say I
was told, Hey, Jason Kelsey's got it, don't worry about it.
Who the hell tells their franchise quarterback the center has it,
don't worry about it? Like? What really? Like if I'm
Jalen Hurts, I'm so amazingly insulted, I'm like, dude, I
(23:39):
feel like Alan Irison, I'm not supposed to be the
franchise player. We're here talking about practice like I'm the
franchise quarterback. I'm an MVP candidate. And again I go
back to I am the quarterback and the leader of
this team. And when I want to know things, you
tell me don't worry about it. Jason Kelsey's got it.
The center has it. Do you think Tom Brady has
whatever the relationship Tom Brady had with Bill Belichick, whatever
(24:02):
relationship Lamar Jackson has with John Harbaugh, wherever you want
to go. Do you really think these guys are going
into their office going, hey, so I have some questions
about protections that I call out, and Belichick tells Brady,
don't worry about it, don't worry about it, don't wor
the center has it, don't worry Joe Andrews. Joe Andrews,
he has it. Don't worry about it. We're fine. Like
really like you you have you. Your quarterback who wants
(24:24):
to learn more, wants to continue to be a leader
and needs to know these things is told, yeah, don't worry.
Our center knows what's going on. What an insult that
is to to Jalen Hurts, Like, all the guy has
done is try to do it, and from from his
time at Alabama when when he won the job as
a freshman National Championship game, all the way he transfers
he makes it to the NFL. This is a guy
(24:45):
who has always worked hard, has always tried to present.
He's always been very image conscious from the beginning, always presented, Hey,
I want to be a leader. I want to do
all of these things, and to be told that no
our center has it. Like I get you, like Jason Kelsey,
I get that he's awesome, but these are things you
have to understand. Your quarterback needs to know this, your
(25:06):
quarterback what you didn't think you could handle it? Sorry, Jalen,
you can't handle what we're telling You can't handle protection.
You can't handle it. You can't be dumb and play
in the NFL. Man, you gotta be really smart. And
Jalen hurts is the level of success he has and
you get told, don't worry about it, the center has it.
Like what Like this made me really understand? Oh wow,
this is how really dysfunctional things are in Philadelphia. Like
(25:29):
I just thought it was knuckleheaded stuff, right, No, but
this is one of those Okay, just what is data?
What are day to day operations? Like here? Can this
team really handle success? Because it goes back to the
WNBA where they have trouble. I knew are they gonna
have trouble handling success with Caitlin Clark coming in? Here
are the Eagles who all of a sudden got successful
like it was in a bottle and it was all
(25:49):
It was like, boom, here comes to the the the
formula and bang, all of a sudden, the Eagles go
from ay, we're an up and coming team too, we're
a super Bowl threat. Every year we're in the super Bowl.
And they obviously have had a tough time handling that
success because you go back to right after the Super
Bowl Sirianni and Hurts and how they were and what
happened last year and they get to ten to oh
and then suddenly they just falter and they don't look
(26:10):
like they even want to play together, and you get
to they couldn't handle success, and this is part of it. Really, Okay,
you're successful, Hey, yeah, yeah, Oh no, no, don't worry.
Jalen Hurts our center has it. He's got a great podcast.
So we're gonna let him call everything, and if you
have any questions, we'll kind of let you answer, but
maybe not. Now you know why the Eagles level of
dysfunction is such a big deal. Again, I blew it
(26:32):
off and then I saw this and I said, oh no, no,
this is absolutely everything people are talking about and have
been talking about the past few months.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah, when you look at the timeline here right, Kelsey
holding things together and the tush push and everything else,
you understand, all right, he's gonna give you the signal,
follow his lead on stuff like that, right in short
yard age, go line whatever. Just from a tactical standpoint, fine,
to be a professional and and get get along in
(27:02):
the league. Sure, a future Hall of Famer whatever, But
beyond that, your quarterback carries the weight of the world.
I don't know if you realize this. Philadelphia fans are
pretty harsh Jason as well as theirs.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Their media people.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Not a lot of softball questions coming out there, and
and look, depending on the coach, you'd have a lot
of them banned. But for Sirianni, I mean they've woned
a pretty good clip. Yes, last year was an enigma
because you started out well, you changed out both coordinators,
and yet you still had a hell of a first
half of the season.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
You heard rumblings, questions.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
About AJ Brown whatever uh and and a little bit
of hurt Sirianni that boiled into the offseason. But now
this just takes it to a whole other level of responsibility.
Ownership and and just team construct in a locker room,
because that's the guy you're supposed to be leaning on. Right,
(27:59):
That's every thing we've ever been told by anybody who's
played a sniff anywhere at the collegiate level. Help passed
into junior and senior year, varsity ball in high school,
your quarterback's your leader. And in the NFL certainly that
goes commensurate with the contracts that you have. So it's
(28:20):
it's curious, right Roseman puts together a good team every
year we watch it and it's always evaluated as a
fantastic one to fifty three, always rated as a top five.
All right, here we go, great depth, defensive line, offensive line,
et cetera. Next man up. And now we have the
question of now Jalen Hurts is gonna now try to
(28:42):
be a leader after several years. Who the hell that's
been around the team for these years in the locker
room is suddenly gonna say, all right, I guess he's
the guy. Now, wouldn't you look at the guy that
replaces Kelsey? All right, centers and charge again, because I mean,
as Jalen Hurts a different guy. No, that's the that's
the follow up question out of what he gave in
(29:04):
that interview, right is okay, Well, how have you changed
your approach and how you're you're doing things right? People
mocked the Caleb Williams, Hey, guys, let's take care of
our locker room. Let's look out for the team as
a whole, everybody that's around us, and he got laughed
at Himani Tumor was on FS one UH calling him
(29:24):
out going what he was like, that's that's a guy
trying to be you know, and maybe trying is the
wrong word. That's a guy showing leadership of an ownership
of the team that he's coming into quarterbacks saying, hey,
it's a new world order. Let's go for Jalen Hurts.
After several years in the league, suddenly it's gonna be like, Hi, guys,
I'm Jalen and I'm in charge here. I mean, what's
(29:45):
changed anybody that's been with that squad more than a year,
That's not been the case, and they're not gonna look
at you any differently.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Your franchise quarterback has to lead at some point. And
it's not like he's asking for something that he doesn't
need to know. It's because they've admitted. Okay, now, now
you need to know this. No, I'm pretty sure if
he wanted to learn, he could pick that stuff up.
He needs to know certain things like protect whatever whatever
it is that you're not allowing the quarterback to learn
about the offense. No, no, don't worry our center at
(30:14):
what happens if Jason Kelsey gets hurtain goes out, Oh great,
Oh we don't know he knows everything. Oh all right,
like that, that's just so backwards, such a backwards way.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Off the leadership and institutional knowledge goes out the door
with him.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
And it's insulting. It's insulting to Jalen hurts that. Oh no, no,
we don't need to give it to you right now. Really,
what friend? Can you imagine the Jets going in and
Aaron Rodgers saying, hey, so here's what I want to
know about some things protect wized. No, no, you know
what we really like Joe tipman. I know he can't
snap you the ball and there's a lot of problems,
but he's got that. Aaron, don't worry about it. Oh thanks,
(30:47):
I appreciate that. In no world does this happen. Do
you hold things back from the court from a franchise
quarterback as good as Jalen Hurt says, Yes, a rookie
coming up, a guy like Drake may or Caleb Williams, Yeah, okay,
you want to hold that back for a little bit
to let them get more comfortable in the role. One
hundred percent, I'm with you. But I mean, for Hurts,
(31:07):
what he's accomplished the last couple of years, and you're saying, yeah, no, no, no,
we know we need to lead in all this, but no,
we're not gonna give you that. Like it's just that's
really I mean, it's it's how do you how do
you want a torpedo your season? Even more? Now? I
want I see Nick Sirianni, I go, what is this
guy gonna do to blow things? Like what? I don't
I don't know, because you know something else is coming.
(31:29):
Because if this this happens, If this happened and you
you kept things from Jalen Nerds because you thought Jason
Kelsey had it, I don't know what to say. I
really don't know it.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
But it goes into a much larger thing. It's like
you bring in a franchise quarterback. This wasn't a stopgap solution.
This is the guy you drafted to become your guy.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
So guess what.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
He goes and takes the baton and you have to
prep him and make him that guy as opposed to
Kelsey's out the door now. So I guess it's my
turn right Where where's the leadership from Kelsey and the
team as a whole to recognize what needs to happen
if you want to make Jalen Hurts the best version
(32:11):
of himself he could be, And he's been pretty damn good, right,
hell of a player thus far? But what else is
on tap? Because you wouldn't let him lead that he
now has to learn several years into the NFL.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Oh Man, what a mess? Exit? How about a Fresca
exit swollen dome? The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Well, to clean up this mess, we
bring in special delivery Steve to Sager, who had a
lot of questions about update anchors when he started. We said, listen, Steve,
don't worry about it. Patrick and Mary have it. You
just worry about other things. But now you know, we
(32:44):
let Steve, you know, run a little bit more things.
When it comes to what's trending you.
Speaker 6 (32:47):
I've often been on a need to know basis around.
Speaker 7 (32:53):
While we're talking footballer reminder, Baltimore opens at Kansas City
next Thursday night, and Ravens tied and Mark Andrews returned
to practice today, missed over two weeks after a car accident.
The Ravens are re signing quarterback Tyler Huntley, who was
just released by the Browns. The Chiefs say wide receiver
Marquis Brown is not expected to play a next Thursday's
season opener due to his bad shoulder. Kansas City signed
(33:15):
running back samaj p Ryan. They also signed quarterback Bailee
Zappi to the practice squad. Just one ball game still
going in the major leagues. It's top of the ninth
in Arizona. Dodgers now up ten to five over the Diamondbacks.
Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw left in the second inning with
a toe injury. Arizona starter Zach Gallon five innings of work,
five runs allowed, show Heyo Todi with his forty third
(33:38):
homer and his forty third stolen base of the season
in this game. No one in baseball history has reached
those two levels, same guy, same season. Yeah, there's never
been a fifty to fifty. There's never been a forty
three forty three season either, and O Toddi's up to
ninety six RBIs. As we're still in late August, Giants
(33:58):
have beaten Miami three to one Blakesnell and no decision
despite eight strikeouts in seven innings. Miami Marlins with a
record of forty nine and eighty six. And then there's
the White Sox. The Mets were winners in Chicago five
to one JD. Martinez a two run homer. Eight straight
losses for the White Sox and a record now of
thirty one and one oh five. Houston and Seattle have
(34:21):
each won. Seattle beats the Angels nine to five in Anaheim.
Mariners second place in the Als, still four games behind Houston,
which picked up a run bottom of the ninth to
beat Kansas City three two. The Royals in the AL
Central are two and a half games behind Cleveland for first,
Minnesota still three and a half back there. Minnesota did
at least end a four game losing streak, shutting out
(34:42):
Toronto two nothing Pablo Lopez the win. Cleveland won its
home game ten to eight over Pittsburgh Josh Naylor three
at four RBIs Oakland and Baltimore with victories San Diego
and the Yankees with wins Atlanta one at Philadelphia seven
to two. Milwaukee swept a doubleheader at sint upset. At
the US Open in New York tonight, Number two Novak
(35:03):
Djokovic lost in four sets in a third round match
to Australia's Alexi popper In There are still two matches
going on at this point, well after twelve thirty in
the morning, Scottie Scheffler leads the PGA's Tour Championship by
four strokes. And in college.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
Football on FS one tonight, it was Wisconsin with two
touchdowns in the fourth quarter, beating Western Michigan twenty eight
to fourteen. Michigan State held on at home sixteen to
ten over Florida Atlantic. The late games at Stanford Stanford
now up seventeen thirteen over TCU. Early in the third
quarter I read a stat that Stanford's only won three
home games in the last four years, So this one
(35:41):
is not over, but it was over early at sixteenth
ranked Oklahoma Sooners beating up Temple fifty one three the
Owls with six turnovers. Temple has lost fifteen straight on
the road, Becky.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
But what wasn't that three was a three early from
Mark making and then they didn't score again some Bacon.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
You couldn't go Brunson or anything like.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
God Man, Mark Sacon, Macon Man.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
That was over thirty years ago with Temple Hoops.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Wasn't that he used to always yell good every time
he made a shot. He would the shot would leave
his head and he would always yell good. They had
to piss off so many people times.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
You say good every shot, not after it went in.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
No, no, no, he would say it before it went in.
But yeah, I mean, I mean that's goods I like it.
You know, It's not like I can easily say good
after it goes in, But you know, saying it before
that's kind of cool.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
That will draw some of the physical play that you
were talking about. Laid in the w NBAKA Indiana did
win at Chicago.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Mark Shaking Macon, Thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon coming up next. As
we are smack dab in the middle of Week one
of college football, Mike and I give you our big
upset specials for tomorrow. We go top twenty five Hunting
right Air Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio, The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon the ACC
(37:08):
after Dark. Yeah, middle of the third quarter, Stanford leeds
TCU seventeen to thirteen. I'll tell you what, ACC Stanford
with that big logo love plus seven and a half.
That was one of the upsets for the night right
as kicked off. So let's go. Yeah, Quentin Johnson is
not walking back through that door. Max Dugget's not walking
(37:29):
back through that door for TCU, Max jug and look
at you. Mike and I do it every week during
the college football NFL season. We give you more upset
specials of the week. We go top twenty five hunting
and give you a couple of games where you're gonna
see surprises. So let's kick it off right here. I'll
give my first upset special. And now now I know
(37:52):
my wife is gonna listen, but that's okay. She'll be mad.
But there's nothing I hai, bam, gimme Fresno State getting
twenty two against Michigan. Not because I think Michigan's gonna
start and it's gonna be old. They're gonna be in
trouble it's the beginning of a new era. It's Sharon Moore.
They're gonna want to run the football a ton. They're
not gonna want to put a lot of stuff on
(38:13):
tape because they got Texas next week in the game
of the week in college football, early game of the year.
So it's gonna be one of those plotting Michigan runs
the whole game looking and Fresno State's not bad, right,
It weren't bad last year, But this is one of
those Quinn essential Michigan games where hey, they look somewhat dominant,
they run for a lot of yards, they keep a
lot of clock, and they win by a couple of touchdowns.
(38:35):
But twenty two is just way too much for me.
It's gonna be Fresno State getting twenty two. I'm not
saying Fresno State on the field like I will the
next game, but I'll be more than happy with twenty
two points. You are one that I could see on
the field and rare is this. Check my temperature, check
my pulse, because I'm picking Notre Dame to beat Texas
A and M on the road getting three.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
That's where it sits right now. Marcus Freeman in Company
they bring in Denbrook from LSU to work the offensive side.
Al Golden got his extension defensively, big concern for the Irish.
A youthful offensive line against an A and M front
that can get after it. So getting the ball out quickly,
that's gonna be the order of the day for Riley.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
Leonard all right, second pick, give me USC getting five
over LSU. I'm not gonna need the points, but I
will take them.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
You know a week ago you could have gotten six
and a half. I know, well, we made the picks tonight.
Why I can't go back in time saying the downward
pressure Lona. I could do a lot of money. People
driving to Vegas.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
It's a big make or break type year for Lincoln Riley.
As much as the USC gave him, it has not
been great. The honeymoon is well over. He gets into
it with reporters. He's out of talent, that's won the
Heisman Trophy, been the number one pick in the draft,
and still wait, why can't USC make the playoff? USC
usually starts out big, and this is a season that
(40:01):
Lincoln Riley knows. We got to get out big and
play big early. Their offenses loaded. We watched Miller Moss
in the Bowl game. He was terrific. They're gonna score
a lot of points. I love the over in this
game as well. But USC is gonna score a ton
and it's gonna be a surprise early and we're gonna
jump on the USC benwagon and say, oh maybe this
is it. Ah, they lose, Caleb Williams like, but USC
(40:23):
will come out big tomorrow. I'll take the five points,
but I won't need him because USC wins on the field.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Another game where we've seen some pressure opened at ten
and a half, now sitting around eight and a half
or eight.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
I guess the Jason, are you there, I'm here. I've
been listening to Harmon speak. Hello, I'm here. I'm okay
that that was what happened.
Speaker 6 (40:48):
We don't know.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Am I back? And I'm back? The pod people get you.
Speaker 6 (40:55):
You guys just went off air.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
Well maybe well maybe something, you know what this could
have happen And LSU was upset that I picked USC.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
That's probably, you know, our stander coming down to get
me because I rarely pick against the big ten.
Speaker 1 (41:10):
All time. No, no, dude, Rich Hornberger is coming to
kick your ass.
Speaker 6 (41:12):
You picked did you like reboot on air.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
That's what's happening. No, No, I didn't. I just came.
You did that sounds like something you don't want to do. Dude,
did you reboot on air? Yeah? I guess I did.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Oh come on, man, you can't do that. You can't
reboot a bad boy. I think they're just making stuff up.
They were just mad they didn't get to talk.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
So there's our upset specials coming up. Next, we get
back into a big developing story. Keep it right here,
Jason and Mike Fox
