Speaker 1 (00:28):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the Tiraq dot Com Studios
Direct dot Com. I hope you get there. An unmatched election,
fast free shipping, free roadh hazard protection and over ten
thousand recommended installers tirac dot com. The way tire buying
should be well before we get to the ending of Virginia,

(00:50):
North Carolina, trust me, you want to hear how this
game ended. It was a craziness of the highest order.
Fox Sports MLB on Fox put out a big banner
today or a few minutes ago on their Twitter page
announcing that the Mets have been eliminated from postseason contention. Now.
The picture they put up is a picture of mister
Met with the word eliminated under mister met And it

(01:15):
makes it look like they whacked them, like what it's like.
It's like de Nero's on the phone with Vinnie and
he goes, what happened, Jimmy, there was nothing we could do.
There was nothing we could do. He's gone, Jimmy, what
do you mean he's gone? There was nothing we could do. Ah,
And he starts backing the phone and and he goes,
they wcked them, They blank and whacked them. They whacked.

(01:37):
That's what it looks like, mister met eliminated. Whoa whoa? Whoa?
Who would you mean? Wait? Wait wait wait wait mits
hang on a second, man, hang on a second.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
No, that sounds about right. Well that's a good analysis.
I mean, we had a bunch of those go up today.
Today was the official All right, let's start getting rid
of all the direk across Major League Baseball and have
those ready for the official eliminations.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Jason.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
They didn't play the Sarah McLaughlin uh no, no song
over it though they.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Could have.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
You aware, guys that he was almost eliminated at one point.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Right, Well, well yeah, yeah, but when Bill Clinton was president.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Sure he was. Yeah, mister Mett was all, yes, I
know the guy who was mister Mett. I know that guy.
I've heard that story.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
He almost got killed.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, yeah, they they got he got too close to
President Clinton when President Clinton was at the Mets game
and they told him one more step and I go
for the kill shot. Well the guy playing, because I
know the guy new Plate who played mister Mett, I
went to didn't star him for life.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
No, I think he ever tried to take a lawsuit
to uh, the Secret Service or Clinton ills.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
You know. I think the Secret Service is trying to
do what they were supposed to do here, and maybe
they're saying this may look like some kind of crazy
ass movie where the bad guy dresses up as a
mascot to get close to the field, and I think
that probably cured him from wanting to be a mask.
Oh okay, yeah, there's all that, But man, you look
at that thing. Just mister metages eliminate. Someone's going around

(03:09):
eliminating all the met Now that's a horror movie for
sci fi. That's one of those cheesy sci fi ones, okay,
where someone goes around and they're kidnapping or eliminate whatever
they're doing to the mascots and not the people at
the mat like that. But the mascots are done like
they're taking all this stuff. That's a Sci Fi Channel
movie right there. That's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
I mean the start of it is those old videos
of the people in mascots outfits, trucking kids in like
the little football games you play on the fields, like,
oh look, Ribby and Rhubarb just did a high low
move on this eight year old the Philly fanatic just
took a swing at this guy. Are you gonna take

(03:47):
out the Son's Gorilla though, Well, you.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Need you need more than one person. The Son's Guerrilla
is pretty powerful, so yeah, you need you need like
an well, you need something because you gotta dart in
your neck. Yeah he can, he can. He can jump
on that on that ride, that platform that launched them
the dunks. He could just jump over you. And you
mean the trampoline, the tramp Yeah, trampop bline, tram up berline.

(04:09):
I couldn't think of the word. Uh. He jumped on
that trampoline and jumped past you. So you have to
be able. I thought you were gonna tram up aline
tram up. So yeah, mets, just to picture mister Metts smiling,
and it just says, eliminated New York men. We've eliminated.
It's like in john Wick when they're they're they're putting
the names up on the board and the odds and

(04:31):
the money, and you see mister met just put a
big X over mister Mets right through them. Hey we
got mister met where we get him. We got him
in Philadelphia tonight. Yeah, we got mister met Mister me.
Mister Met's not gonna give anybody any problems anymore. Let
me just say that, all right, great? Uh so, yeah,
just boy, just a you know, party wants he wants
to make that my Twitter profile because it's just so

(04:55):
much fun. That is that is t shirt worthy right there.
I mean that is Yeah, it's just an awesome thing.
If I can do it, if I can do it,
I will do it. The thing is it's in a square,
so it's kind of tough because you know, the Twitter,
the avatars are in a circle. So but I will
definitely try that because that's good stuff right there. I'm
a big fan of that. Now let's get to what

(05:17):
we just saw involving North Carolina State Virginia. Look, game
is on national TV. I mean, well, yet, now that
the the problem has been solved with spectrum, everybody got
to see it on ESPN. Virginia falls to zero to
four North Carolina Stage three and one. North Carolina State
wins the game on a last second field goal. But
how we got to there in the last thirty seconds?

(05:40):
I mean, if Colorado Oregon ended like this, they would
cancel NFL game Sunday just because people would need the
entire day to talk about what happened. Maybe they'd be
able to play one game Sunday night and just push
the rest of the slate to Monday. But man, I'll
tell you what. So, Virginia is losing this game by
eight with just a few seconds left to go. Virginia

(06:01):
throws a touchdown to bring the team within two points,
and then two point conversion to tie the game. Except
after the play touchdown, you know, makes it twenty one
to nineteen. Ty Furnish, one of the offensive linemen decides
after the dead ball to head butt one of the
linemen on North Carolina State. For some reason, he walks
up to him and head butts him. Now, is this

(06:23):
a penalty that is always gonna get called? Maybe not,
but it's all a case of if the referee sees it.
But there's no doubt. He walks up and he head
butts the guy. So now the two points. So now
the two point conversion comes from back of the seventeen
yard line, so you have to have a two point
conversion from the seventeen yard line, right. You saw the

(06:45):
coaches were screaming at him, but he goes back on
the field for the two point conversion. He's just starting
offensive lineman. Anthony Calandria, freshman quarterback for Virginia, gets out
of trouble, rolls out of the bay again. There's like
thirty seconds left in the game, gets out of trouble,
rolls out of the pocket, and throws and completes a

(07:06):
two point conversion from seventeen yards out to tie the
game at twenty one. You think it's over there. It
is not, except after the play is over, he's pushed
to the ground. What does he decide to do While
he's lying on the ground, he sees a two point
conversion is made. He decides to take his helmet off,
stand up and pose, and this is all over the

(07:29):
internet of him. He takes his helmet off and which
you can't do on the field, and he stands up
and he poses. Of course, the officials see this, so
now the kickoff. North Carolina State gets an extra fifteen
yards on the kickoff, which of course helps them, since
you're eventually we told you they were trying to kick
a field goal on the final play of the game,
So spoiler, those fifteen yards really really helped North Carolina State.

(07:53):
That would be enough, except North Carolina State gets to
the point where the kicking forty eight yard field goal
on the final play to try to win the game.
The kick is blocked by James Jackson. Accept except James
Jackson gets called for leaping because he comes in straight

(08:16):
over the center and he leaps up over the center
in the air blocks it, but he gets called for leaping.
Why they didn't run the Patriots play where I'm coming
in from the side to block it, I don't know.
I can't believe all teams aren't gonna try to do
that now. But he gets called for leaping, So even
though he blocked the kick, he gets called for leaping.
This makes it now a thirty three yard field goal
for North Carolina State, and mercifully, North Carolina State puts

(08:41):
Virginia out of their misery with this kick in the
final twenty four to twenty one. The wolf Pack win
it at the horn ESPN on the call, the announcers

(09:06):
were just spent. They were just about nothing.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
I got nothing left, no setup, no call of the actual.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
You hear the thud, that's it. It's good, Okay, So
I'm just done. You're talking about in the last thirty
seconds of a game, Virginia gets called for three unsportsmanlike
conduct penalties, three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties that forced them to
lose the game. You had the head butt, then you

(09:34):
had the quarterback taking his helmet off, and then you
had the leaping penalty. I mean, you don't see that.
You don't say if that if Colorado organ I mean,
if can you imagine Colorado organ ending that way for
either team where quarterback bo Nicks takes his helmet off
at the end to celebrate, or Shador Sanders takes his
helmet off and then they get called for leaping and
there's a head butting. Gu Ah, we would talk about

(09:54):
it forever. We talked about it would be the game
of the century in college football. Well was funny? Is
as your down and down the stretch.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
I was taking notes as I was watching it live,
waiting for us again. It Calandra in the fourth quarter
between this game and last had been had completed three
or fourteen passes for fourteen yards with five interceptions before
this drive. Okay, so put that into the machine as well.

(10:21):
And then yet you have the play where as he
gets pushed on the two point conversion Jason, the helmet
starts to kind of come off, and it's almost like
he does a thing where he doesn't want it to
hit him as he's falling. But then he gets up
and starts celebrating the two point vers like, no, I
got to try to put the helmet back on.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Man. You can't stand there like that. They're not going
to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Should they have until he started posing and preening and celebrating.
They might have if he had just quickly just gone
and grabbed it and put it back on as he
was getting up, because the shove from the defender as
he got knocked to the ground, you could see the
helmet coming up. It's like you might have been able
to sell that. Unfortunately, now you're celebrating a bit too much,

(11:07):
great cross body throw, all of those things to avail
the ensuing possession from a better field position, and then
the leaping call. How many times you actually call the
leaping call?

Speaker 1 (11:22):
No?

Speaker 3 (11:22):
No, that I mean, come on, but he jumps on
a guy's back and comes over the Yeah, I mean
what what Simeon Rice?

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Right? That wash in nineteen ninety nine or something like that,
that was the last one. Yeah, I mean, come on.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
It's really a convergence of events that you need to
see it to believe it, because you know some improbable conversions.
Quarterback sneaks are armstrong, just running like his hair is
on fire in the final thirty seconds to try to
put them in position to at least attempt the field goal,

(11:56):
and three personal file calls. It's it almost is like
a transport transported you back to Colorado State Colorado. Here,
Let's give you two hundred yards of penalties and see
what you do with them.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
I mean, I really, you know, you bring up them
because of all the things that happened. I look and go, okay,
you know the penalty on the unsportsmanlike conduct, penalty on
the on the lineman. Okay, not the smartest thing, but
You've seen that before. A guy decides head about somebody,
but they convert from seventeen yards out. Okay, you know
the leaping penalty. Oh my goodness, but you've seen it before.
It's kind of an obvious call. But I really can't

(12:32):
get over the quarterback on while he's on the ground.
I'm taking I'm not even done sliding yet after getting
pushed down, and I'm taking my helmet off to celebrate,
and I'm gonna stand there and pose because I think
I can do it because I'm a freshman. That's what
I can't get over. I really can't get over that part.
That's that's like what that's where the coach goes.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
No, well, he did a whole posing thing right, arms up, cheering,
excited like he had just rock bottom someone. It was
gonna go for the giant and finish, all right, it's
time for the people's elbow.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
That's just that's I'm state to three and one.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
This is, by far, guys, the most we've ever done
on a non ranked college football game.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Noh yeah yeah, but I mean, come on, dude, this
was this was insane. I didn't say it was an issue.
This is great. I mean, head botsy Twitter it out
about a Fresco Mike gets swollen down The Jason Smith

that's what Tysher does. It's been a long time since
I rock.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
And roll, Jason, that was ac DC.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Come on, Oh sorry, hey, listen, do you know who led?
Can you name one Led Zeppelin song? Ah?

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Yes, I think there was one called way Stairway to Hell.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Uh no, actually, okay, so listen a C d C.
Did Stairway to Heaven?

Speaker 4 (15:41):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Okay, oh okay, did they Stairway to Heaven and Highway
to Hell? Yes? Oh?

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Didn't they do that one song? The three four five?
Everybody in the.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Club, Yes, that that is them. Yes, that was when
lou Bega stepped in to be the lead singer.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
He was the lead singer, yes, he was, Yes, and
then he went and did his own thing.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
It It's pretty cool to see like Angus Young with
the jack plugged into his back plane, and then lou
Bega comes in with shoulder pads and a big wide
hat singing. It's a sight. Man, it's some concert. You
gotta go see it.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
Actually, want to.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
A couple of weeks from now. I mean we can
go out to the desert three four five.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
I don't think can we eliminate mister Medat in the desert? Oh? Man,
I'll tell you that I was able to make it
my Twitter avatar, the mister met eliminade. Well, I mean,
you bring a shovel and some li we can make
that happen. I got no lime left. What do you
want to do. I got no lime left, all right,
I got line, I got line in the carl put
some line in the car. I got no lime left.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
A couple of big games this week in the NFL
and big injury news today. The first one, no Anthony
Richardson for Indianapolis this week. Now, this is not unexpected. Uh,
he's self reported concussion symptoms last week. While he's in
the midst of a phenomenal gaming. He had two seventeen
yard rushing touchdowns in the first half, but taking a

(17:01):
big hit on that second one, he gets knocked out
of the game. Still, it's okay. The Colts get the win,
but now they go into Baltimore on Sunday without Anthony Richardson. Now,
the Ravens are missing seven starters, So I guess one
Anthony Richardson is worth seven members of the Ravens. Now,
there's two things to take because one gets even bigger
than just this game. Anthony Richardson is going to be

(17:21):
a superstar, Okay, I don't think that. I don't know
why we're not talking about him more.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
Because he ain't gonna be on the field to be
long out there long enough to be a superstar that
you know.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah, well you hope that now. It's okay, dude, you
gotta understand you got to run around to stay around, right, like, Yeah,
Trevor Lawrence told him after week one. He grabbed him.
He said, dude, I love you. Don't do this. Yeah,
I mean, but it's a little bit. This is the
way he plays. That's where I talk about banging out
the dents, right. Trying to turn Justin Fields into a
pocket passer is just stupid. You bang out the dents
with quarterbacks as they come to you fully formed. Banging

(17:53):
out the dents with Anthony Richardson is hey, dude, at
the end of plays go down. He only had sixteen
starts right and right. But that's an easy thing to say.
That's a bang out the dents. Dude. You need to
slide and we need whatever it is to do. You
need to do this right away. You to figure out
a time to slide and understand that. You know, scrambling
for twenty four yards is great and thirty yards is

(18:14):
not worth it. If at the end you're taking a hit,
well take the twenty four yard scramble and you go
down and slide. That's banging out the Dents. Okay, but
Dryan say, hey, now we're gonna put you in the
pocket and what no, No, that's gonna ruin Anthony Richardson.
But this kid's gonna be a star. You already can
tell what he can do athletically. He's ready for the NFL.
There is no doubt in anybody's mind. Look at what

(18:35):
he's been able to do in just six quarters. Right,
So he's going to be a star. But the bigger
thing is this is that you are now going to
see in the next couple of weeks Jonathan Taylor get
dealt because the Colts have seen their team. They know
that Richardson's their guy. Yes, he's missing this week, hopefully

(18:56):
he is back in a week. The other thing is
Zack Moss is pretty good. The guy never got it
done in Buffalo, never really unseated Devin Singletary count stay healthy. Yeah,
And also when they did give him an opportunity, he couldn't.
He couldn't, he couldn't run with it, and so he
winds up getting shuffled off, shuff tj getting shuffled off
from Buffalo, getting shuffled off to Indianapolis where okay, hey,

(19:19):
maybe he can thrive as a third down guy in
a compliment to Jonathan Taylor. Well, Taylor gets hurt last year,
and what happens Zack Moss comes in and gives you
very similar Jonathan Taylor like production for the last few
weeks of the season, and now you come into this year.
They're missing. In Week one, they couldn't run the football
at all. What Dion Jackson at twelve carries for fourteen

(19:40):
yards and two fumbles. What happens week two? Eighty eight yards?
The running game is dynamic and the Colts win even
without Richardson for the second half. They are seeing that, Well,
is it really that much of a difference, Because I
know there's always gonna be that little bit of Hey,
we're up against it with Jonathan Taylor and he wants
a lot of money. We're not gonna do it. He's
on the pupp list and he's ready to come off.

(20:00):
What are we gonna do? Zach Moss is gonna show
them you can make that trade. You can make that trade.
So now I'm back to, Hey, I don't think he's
gonna play for the Colts again when he finally finally
gets healthy. As long as Zack Moss continues to run
like he has since he's been given the chance. Where
else is he gonna go. It's the same team from lastcha,
same team, same o' line, same everything, and he's able

(20:21):
to produce pretty much in line with Jonathan Taylor. So
why wouldn't you trade him? Because in two weeks everybody's
gonna be foaming at the mouth to go get Jonathan Taylor.
How many teams are seeing their seasons being ruined because
of injuries to running backs right, whether it's in with
the Ravens, whether we saw last week with the Browns,
whatever it is, you are seeing all kinds of guys

(20:44):
getting hurt. Right, Austin Eckler is gonna miss another game
on Sunday. Who knows when he's gonna come back. Aaron
Jones is out, Saquon Barkley. There are gonna be many
teams saying, hey, we need that running back. And here's
Jonathan Taylor who has not taken any hits this year. Okay,
we'll get him back. Hopefully things go all right and
that'll be the deal that goes down. But in a
couple of weeks, the Colts are going to realize we

(21:04):
can make a move. We can trade this guy, and
we'll be more than happy with Zach Moss as our
starting running back and Anthony Richard is our quarterback. Because
Taylor's twenty four, Zach Moss's twenty five. Not a big difference.
And it's not like, hey, Moss is twenty nine and
you look to replace him at some point. He's twenty five.
Taylor's twenty four. You can get the draft picks, and
you know that ers wants to do it. He'll get

(21:25):
traded in a couple of weeks. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
I think the biggest part of it for me, Jason
is just convincing ersay that it's okay to let go
right that, you know whatever, if there's personal back and
forth or just you look at him as such a
great player, how dare he want to leave whatever? Still
stung by the fact that Captain Andrew luck walked away

(21:48):
as he did and all of those things.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Then he walked back onto the TV set last night,
Captain Andrew No, that's it. All of a sudden, he
was there.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
I was trying to because the kids always asked me
in the morning, what was the highlight of the show?
I go, oh, it's four hours of greatness. But I'll
tell you in the NFL game, which wasn't very good,
the postgame at least gave us something to talk about.
And then I explained both Andrew Luck and they were
just wrapped attention. I was really impressed, not on their

(22:17):
phones whatever as to the saga of Andrew Luck himself
and the parity Twitter account and the merge.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
That happened last night. I mean, they were all for it.
Do you like, do you think ers saw that happen
and he just looked at his phone saying, I'm not
gonna call him. I'm not gonna call him. I'm not
gonna call I'm not gonna do it. I'm like when
you break up with somebody, you go like, but I
just want to call them. I just want to go
and I'm not gonna call. No, I'm not gonna call him.
I'm not gonna call I'm not gonna call him. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
I think when we look at it, though, it is
you still have to be real And this is a
conversation we had months ago as this was going on. Right,
separate the feelings from what the reality is. You're not
in a situation where where Taylor's taking you to the
promised land, Right, what's he worth in terms of win?
What's he worth in points each week? Does he make

(23:03):
your other players better?

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Should you be able with competent quarterbacking to have a
more efficient and cohesive offense, no question about it. But
when we talk about it in brass tacks of wins
and losses.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
What is that really doing for you? What is he
worth over the course of his.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Season for the headaches and for the holdout, and for
what the money at least from where he's sitting at
where he needs it to be as to what you
need to do to build around Richardson, because you got
a couple of pretty good parts, right, Moss, I don't
know how good he is, but he's not making any money,
hasn't played long enough, well enough whatever to command any

(23:43):
kind of big deal right now, and now he gets
his audition. Pittman looks like he could be a player
with stability at the quarterback position.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
And really that's about it, right. A lot of it
is wishing and hoping you're right.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
The offensive line that was such a big deal for
years then had a bit of a downturn. Well, now
you're like, all right, they're.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
On their way. Back. Well, they're hurt, all right, Kelly,
you got all these guys that can't stay on the field.
So while you may have your rolls, Royce, whatever we
want to do.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
And I know there was a lot of talk on
the podcast with Brady and Shadeur Sanders about the cars
Maybox and whatever he's driving around to spend more time
in the film room. But if we use the analogy
of all right, he's the high end luxury piece on
the field, you don't have a well constructed road to
make it go anywhere at this point, and so paying

(24:35):
Jonathan Taylor would be foolish. So with all these injuries,
with teams hitting that part of desperation, yeah, it makes
absolute sense to start canvassing the electorate and seeing if
you can't get a deal done.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Now the other game, you're missing a quarterback for No,
Bryce Young against is out. He's gonna miss a week
to two weeks and Andy Dalton once again. We'll find
a way to start in the NFL a shocking way.
And look, I'll tell you this, No, the Panthers have
not started out well. But when Bryce Young comes back,

(25:13):
he will ascend. Carolina will start winning and he will
start playing extremely well, playing up to the caliber of
being a number one quarterback so far watching both of
his games, there's something it happened to him in the
middle of the game against the Saints where suddenly he
just started looking more comfortable. Right. He got them down

(25:33):
for the touchdown, the two point conversion at the end,
and the Saints defense is pretty good. I mean, the
Saints team is pretty good. The Panthers can't run the
football at all. They're probably gonna wind up making a
move at some point soon, and their weapons are not
quite what we thought they would be. You know, we
have a couple of injuries too. They're waiting for some
wide receivers to get healthy. DJ Chark with one of them.

(25:54):
Maybe he's gonna be able to do something. He had
a quiet game on Monday. But the Saints defense is legit.
But I watch Bryce Young and seeing him, it's like
the game slowed down a little bit for him, and
you know, the touchdown pass and the two point conversion
coming back across his body to Adam Thieln. He's gonna
start to get it, and especially now where he gets
one or two weeks to catch his breath, right, it's

(26:17):
not it's not one of those. Boy, We're losing a
couple of games, and how do we fix this from
one week to the next and things get out of control,
which is what happens to young quarterbacks in the NFL.
Now he's got a chance because he's dinged up to
sit back, catch his breath for a couple of weeks,
watch the preparation, and when he comes back, you're gonna
see a springboard. I still have all the confidence in
the world that Bryce Young is gonna have a really

(26:37):
good year and you're gonna start seeing it when he
gets back in the lineup. Look at you. I love it.
Here's your hug for you. Just like with Richardson, I
ain't banking on that guy staying healthy. Oh hey.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
And the fact that you can't even use him in
short yarded situations because he's too.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Small, well, come on, well they did have to bring
That's okay bringing him in for a quarterback sneak. Okay,
I get it, I get it. Although you're telling the
whole world here comes a quarterback sneak. Well, yeah, you're
ball wait for it this week. I mean he's on
the field, QB one, he'll be ready to go yeah,

(27:14):
but no, I mean, look young Young flashed a little bit.
They they're a work in progress. I mean, obviously top pick,
but also just you look around. I mean, Thielan is
a nice possession guy and he can burn you once
in a while downfield, but all he is is a
space eater at this point, moved those chains.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
When we look at the rest of those guys, Marshall's
a guy was kind of excited about. Can't stay healthy.
Chart comes in, don't know what he is. And then
the backfield, Miles Sanders is going to be part of
a three man rotation. You got Tarik Cohen coming back
off of injuries, former Bear who who's a guy that
you know, small, small frame but good yack, good receiver

(27:55):
out of the backfield. And then you still have Chewba
Hubbard there. So that's gonna be a mess. Good luck
fantasy owners there. But when we go all the way through,
you got a pretty decent defense to hang your hat
on for now. But there's a lot of work that
is under construction. Go slow through the zone.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
So there it is some of the big injuries of
the NFL and what to make of them? Oh, hot
stuff right there?

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Hot stuff be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (28:30):

friend Mike Harmon for Shark or Something Live from the
tire rack dot Com Studios. Incredible night in Major League Baseball.
We'll get to some of the big highlights coming up next,
including a hot take that, well, eventually you're gonna hear
from other people. But again, that's why we call the

(28:52):
show Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Ahead of the Curve.
Here's why Brady's the greatest of all time. Let's take
a look at the biggest game of the week in
the NFL in the Jets, not Cleves stop they were
on Monday Night Football. We've got a yeah, Patriots and
the Jets because of the stakes for both teams. As
the week has gone on, the stakes have gotten much

(29:13):
higher for the Patriots than for the Jets. If the
Jets lose and they fall to one and two, all right,
I think even with Aaron Rodgers, if you said, okay,
your first three games Buffalo Dallas and the Patriots if
you're one and two, okay, you're okay there. It's gonna
be what's up for Zach Wilson. If the Jets lose,
that's the big thing. But for the Patriots, it's become

(29:36):
their entire season is this game. Fourteen game win streak
against the Jets. Belichick trolling Zach Wilson the other day.
They asked him about what they got to do to
slow him down, and he said, pretty mobile quarterback. We've
seen him before, right, That was all he could say
about Zach. We've seen him before. And I watched Zach
Wilson play maybe the worst quarterback game I've ever seen
in the history of the NFL. Or it's certainly in

(29:57):
the Jets when I watched that the walk off return
loss to the Patriots last year. This game is everything.
If the Patriots can't beat the Jets, they are the
worst team in the division. They're oh to three. You
can see their lack of a talented roster isn't gonna
get any better. And before the season we told youa hey,
this season goes bad for Belichick, that's it, man, He's done.

(30:20):
He is under so much pressure to perform and produce
this year or he's gone in New England, whether it's
him resigning, retiring, or a joint statement I'm moving on,
or he says I want to stay in Bob Craft
says no, you're gone. But this is it. They go
to Ohen three. You can see how ugly this is
going to get, because Mac Jones is not someone that's

(30:40):
going to be silent as the season goes on. He
will stand up and say I need more, I need this,
I need that. Belichick and Mac Jones and this entire
relationship that he's got with Bob Kraft, and how since
Tom Brady left the team has not been able to
maintain any semblance of success.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
This is it.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
This is the Paidots entire season, because if they lose
this game, the rest of this year gets so unbelievably
ugly for them. I can't even tell you. So, what's
the post game? From your side?

Speaker 3 (31:10):
We underestimated Judan, we underestimated Jones, We underestimated bar more
like who's a hacket gonna kind of say, they underestimated this.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
We didn't know they were gonna play with eleven. We
thought they were coming with nine. Uh, you know, get
having all eleven players out there really hurt us. We
underestimating Micah Parsons. I mean that's I mean, I come on,
that's almost as good as any of the Bears stuff
this week. I mean, yeah, when you're OC, when you're
OC says we underestimated Michah Parsons. Now that you're underestimated,

(31:40):
you didn't try to do anything in the second half
to get them off off your quarterback and out of
your backfield. I mean, really, look, the stakes for the
Jets are big two. Don't get me wrong, It's the
entire season for the Patriots. But for the Jets is
different because this is about Zach Wilson. They haven't signed
another quarterback yet. Why because they're waiting to see what
they want. Do we need a veteran to come in
to kind of help Zach along, or do we need

(32:02):
to sign or make a bold move for a guy
to come in and take the job from him. Right,
they don't want to didn't want to sign a guy
come in. Okay, now we need somebody better. We're letting
you go bringing somebody else in. There's a reason why
they haven't brought in that third quarterback, and they're not
gonna wait much longer. If Wilson has another dud on Sunday,
don't be surprised that the Jets make a move and
have a new quarterback in there on Tuesday. And it's

(32:25):
someone who can come in and potentially take the job,
not a caretaker who's gonna help that. Somebody to come
in to potentially take the job, because the Jets are
not going to give this season away. And if Wilson
has another clunker, that's exactly what's gonna happen. He will
because they're gonna lose this game out right, Oh, would
you stop. They're not gonna lose this game. New England's
winning this game, not gonna lose. It's gonna be one

(32:45):
more problem play from Zach Wilson. Look, I'm not saying
it's gonna put your final score eight to six, twelve five,
got twelve to six, twenty nineteen to six, maybe nineteen.

Speaker 3 (32:56):
Because they get a pick six off Wilson or a
strip sack fumble return kind of thing. But I mean,
there's two games on the slate. It's that one and
it's the Chargers Vikings. Those two games set up the
rest of our NFL season.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Hey, Vikings go to zero to three, the Jets are
getting Kirk Cousins, so I'm okay. Cam Akers to the rescue. Though.
We'll have more on the NFL and i'll tell you
why the Jets are gonna beat the Patriots on Sunday.
Plus two incredible stories out of Major League Baseball, and
one big hot take Happy Friday. That's next here, Odd
