we have seen for the NFL through Week thirteen. Getting
set for a titanic Week fourteen. The Packers and the
Lions get it going tomorrow night. It is gonna be
a great game, not just a very good game, but
(01:14):
joining us now in the hotline to break it all
down and more inside it with the thirty third team,
longtime friend of the show, one of my best friends
in the world, because now I need something from him.
It's NFL insider Jason Coley's on Twitter at Jason Cole
sixty two.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Jake Cale. What's up man?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
It's a beautiful thing, man, except the Lakers are not
such a beautiful thing right now, are they?
Speaker 4 (01:39):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
No, no, not really really, not really what I was
looking for.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
No, no, it's not.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
But listen, you have bigger fish to fry because you
work for the thirty third team.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
You do stuff with them.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Now they're in charge of the next Jets, next Jets
general manager?
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Where's my interview? Where's my interview? Where's my interview for what?
For the jest one job?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Mike?
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Mike Tannan bound works to thirty third team like you do?
Speaker 4 (02:09):
You know him? Obviously?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Where is my interview to be the Jets GM.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I'll work on that tomorrow, all right, I would hope.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
So I can't believe I have to ask. I thught
thought it would be called they call me up already.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Let me let me text panna mom. Right, now there
we go. Let me yeah, text him right now right,
I'm working on Yeah, I'm gonna pay pay a lot
of attention to this, okay, because I have my tea.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
You really, you really think if ideas are gonna be
anything worse than what we've seen the last twenty five
years of the Jets. Come on, man, he's not wrong.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I well, no, he's not. That's the beauty of it,
like exactly, self deprecation as a jetsman becomes here. You're
on the list. I'll make sure of it.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
All right, very good? All right, Look, just just you know,
just so you know, in a.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Couple of weeks, we had a couple a couple of
janitors from Florham Park and apply for the job as well.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Well, if they're there, you know, you want to go
internal candidates first, and external I understand.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
How I get it.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, just so you know, I'm going back to Detroit
for vacation a couple of weeks, so, but i'd like
the interview before then, because I don't want to cut
my vacation short.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Have to do the interview.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Well, maybe we can do it FaceTime.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Oh sure, okay, that'll work.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yeah, all right, Yeah, you don't even get zoom, you
get all right?
Speaker 5 (03:32):
That's okay, Hey, whenever works. He just wants that opportunity.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Man, why do I just see Woody Johnson going how
does this work? And he's turning the phone all these
different ways, kind of like Bill Hayter trying to figure
out how to talk to Tom Cruise on traffic thunder,
you can get out of my way?
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Right, this is how we're looking. Is this how this works?
I don't understand.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
It could be that, or like Dylan Kad's excellent Adventure
what he tried to figure out the phone he goes
used to work? I used, I used to be able
to do that. I can do that and then show
up in the fun Bok. That'd be great. So all right,
moving along the things. Perhaps that my serious.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
What Aristotle would be my head coach? That's my first
high I take Aristotle from Bill and Ted's to be
my head coach.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
So great, a good start.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
I mean that's how you build a roster. I mean
you got my train wreck j Cole that needs to
be needs a whole live dacing.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Oh yeah that bad.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Yeah, mister Clark would be my would be my offensive coordinator.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
No, I got it all said, I'm all good to go.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I'm ready.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
How was that? How was the feeling about that time
out on Thanksgiving? What happened?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Well?
Speaker 5 (04:48):
I mean, first, you know you started by the disrespect
of let's run a play with the offensive lineman to
get things going, and pinay sewell, uh, you know you
want to talk about test the.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Football gods, you know, hand of fate right there?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
No, No, I really want to focus on that last play,
that thirty two seconds. Yeah, where you thought there was
hope and then you just saw you saw just shades
of every bad coach who has ever been on the
bare sideline. Oh no, no, that's that want eight years?
(05:24):
What was it?
Speaker 7 (05:25):
Eight years? Ten years?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Once that, what did you get?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
I don't think you got ten years?
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Come on, I got I got it's set like ten.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
But you're you're you're extending it. Come on now. I
had the like all the rest.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Of dog Gears, dog Gears, No.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
And this was just the latest opportunity to taunt people
and then fail spectacularly.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
God, that was just watching the second teck off and
then seeing Ebers his face as he's going he's gonna
he's gonna snap it. I know he's going to snap it.
He's gonna snap it. Is he is he gonna snap it? Like,
please tell me he's gonna snap it. And like his
entire career, his entire career is going up in flames,
(06:09):
like a napalm flames in thirty two seconds, like you know,
Robert Duvalz coming by with playing cards and just just
throwing them at Eberflup's feet as it goes like it's
just it's just horrible. It's just horrible, like he's and
then and then of course, let him do the press
(06:29):
conference the next day because I haven't decide we're going
to fire him today? Are we going to fire him?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
About it?
Speaker 2 (06:35):
It was so Bears. Everything was just everything you want
to know about the Bears and how they operate. And
this is why Caleb Willingham should look at this and
go what did I do? What did I do? Why
didn't I say no? Because I have just said no, Hey,
can they get sha Door Sanders in here, take him
(06:56):
with a number one book and shame ship me to
a really good team.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
Can we do that.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
I'll make it work for you, I promise, Like that's
what That's what Caleb's thinking right now.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
I know what he's thinking. Hey, things should be worse.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
I could be on the Jets, all right, So I
think I'm right right now, only on the second biggest
tire fire.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
In the NFL.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Well, there's the Raiders. The Raiders are pretty close, that
is true. Yeah, they were competitive right up into the end,
and then Antonio staring at it, going, that's not what
I intended them to do. No kidding, Antonio, it's not
what Okay, but but they The problem is, Antonio, they
don't know what you intended them to do. You didn't
(07:41):
communicate that part to them.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Okay, one more snap? What could possibly go wrong? No,
you're right, let's not snap. Let's go. Let's go. Let's
do it. Let's do it, Let's do it.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
Meanwhile, there's actually teams that know how to win games
in the National Football League.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
We'll get a couple of them tomorrow night. Thursday Night football.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
The Lieans, who, despite a terrible second half, beat the
Bears on Thanksgiving Day, and now Bay Packers trying to
make some noise. Did the Packers get into the bubble
of of relevance.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
For the Super Bowl conversation with a win tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Is it sort of like being in the bubble and
get smart or whatever something like that.
Speaker 7 (08:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Sure, Yeah, the Packers are really good.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
That would be the cone of silence Jason looking for.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah, but I think we want to call it the
cone of defiance or so what do we got? Cone
of competitiveness?
Speaker 4 (08:32):
What are we like that? Double?
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah, yeah, the cone of competitiveness. Yeah, the Packers are
in there. I like this team. Lions are obviously, it's
the Lions and the Eagles. Eagles have better momentum right
now than the Lions, but only by marginally. So I
think that's that's shaping up as being a really pretty
awesome NFC Championship game. But I still think the Packers
(09:02):
and even the Vikings, because defensively, the Vikings are a
headache for people. I think that those two teams have
a shot to make it interesting. You got Washington. Yeah,
the only team out of the West that could be
interesting in the playoff scenario is a healthy forty nine
Ers team, But that seems like just a long shot.
I mean, Arizona, Arizona's kind of interesting. Yeah, it's just
(09:25):
directing the entire NFC South. I think if you put
the entire NFC South together and created one team. They
might be able to win one playoff game like them. Yeah,
just take all four of them. You know, I'm taking
an all star group and okay, maybe you won a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Okay, an all star group of the NFC North. But
they're coached by.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Eber Flues and it's NFC South.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah, NFC South, NFC South, but they're coached by Eberflues.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
What are you doing to me? What NFC South but
they're coached by eber Flues.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Oh, they're not. They're not coaching the Bears anymore. I mean,
he's not on the Bears and all that. You know,
you don't care where he goes now. I mean, in fact,
it's a little less money that the Bears have to
pay out, you know, on on the rest of his contract.
We go somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
They sent him away with a dime left on.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
It, right, I know that's the that's the McCaskey way. No,
I I do think that, you know. I like the
Packers and looks like love has gotten healthy. So I
like that game tomorrow. I think that game's really really interesting.
(10:33):
Detroit defensively, I think they're reaching their are they reaching
their breaking point with some of the guys that are
banged up. I mean, I thought they were going to
regrets without Hutchinson. They haven't. In fact, they actually got
a little bit better. But you know, God, there's got
to be a point which they can't take any more.
You know, banged up guys and you know, they got
(10:54):
to worry about getting healthy. But they're still they got
you know, Eagles, you know, right behind them, and they
can't afford to lose home field advantage because could you
imagine Jared Goff having to go into Philadelphia and listen
to those fans, wow, talking about guys, talking about people
getting in the guys that the North Cala guy is
(11:17):
going to go into Philly and he can handle it. Lord,
oh lord, it's.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Look to me, that's the most interesting thing of the
last five weeks of the season, because clearly it looks
like it's going to be the Eagles and the Lions
on the collision course. And if the Lions get to
play at home, it's lights out for the Eagles. And
if the Eagle, if the Lions have to play on
the road, that's a different story. Like this battle for
the number one seed is going to be fascinating.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Yeah, the Eagles on the road the last you know,
you know, they played. You know, they've played a lot
of cupcakes leading up to the last last three games.
You know, they had Jacksonville and Cleveland and Dallas and
the Giants, so they built up built the first part
of this winning streak, again some cupcakes. But the last
three games, you know, going on the road for two
(12:04):
of those games, you know, including the Baltimore game, and
that pass defense. In the last eight games, they've only
allowed to Theirs passing twice. Uh And again, you know,
for those opponents are are pretty soft, and but they
you know, they did a really really good job against
(12:26):
Lamar Jackson and forcing him to be a pocket passer.
Like I got to give I got to give the
Eagles a lot of credit of staying incredibly disciplined with
their pass rush and never giving into the temptation of
trying to chase him too much and letting him get
out of the pocket. They kept him as a passer
(12:48):
the whole game, and they kept him from creating explosives,
which allowed their secondary to play really really disciplined football.
So that was a you know, that was a magnificent game.
And the difference is when played Detroit. So you say, Okay,
they go to Detroit, they can't handle it. I don't know,
because Golf is not a guy who's going to get
outside the pocket. Now, He's going to release them all quickly.
(13:10):
And maybe that beats what the Eagles have, But I
think it's a I think it's a reasonably fair fight
for the Eagles to go on the road, whereas if
the Lions have to go on the road and if
they have to go to Philly, I just I don't know.
You know, they had a great game in San Francisco
last year, but San franciscoing Phili along sid so, yeah,
(13:35):
like that just a different world. When you have to
go into phill It like, you know, they're just taunting
you so much, just on the bus on the way in,
like they're just making it so miserable for you to
be in that place again. Assistant coach friend who's is uh,
you know from two years ago when they had to
go to Philly for that when brock Perty's arm basically
(13:56):
broke off in that game. But he just said it
was the most miserable experience going into the game. You know,
just you know, the bussers going in and the amount
of crap that they were screaming and yelling. It's like
basically run them through a gaunfl And I just I
kind of wonder how does Jared Goff handle that? And
Jared gosfil we got a little bit of a of
(14:18):
a I can't say the word, but it's a something
new attitude. He does have that to him. But I'd
love to see it on display. I'd love to see
how challenged it is if he at in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two, that is
at Jason Cole sixty to thirty, third team.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame voter.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
And let me say congratulations because yet another.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Degree of relevance has come back to you.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Because you're like, baby, Andrew Luck is back as GM
of the Stanford football program. You can get back to
doing interviews pretending to be Andrew Luck saying all kinds
of crazy things about the Stanford football program.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
I may have done that already.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Hey, we just interviewed Andrew Luck who said he's hiring
Jim Harbaugh back as his head coach.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
That's insane.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah, we're not. We're not hiring him back. We have led,
we have led a insurrection and we're taking over at
the charges facility and we are taking him as prisoner
and he's going back to coach to coach with Camford.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Ja Cole is always buddy appreciated, my friend. Congrats on
Andrew Luck coming back. Man, We'll talk to you later.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
See you money.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
I mean, just think of the interviews he can once
again do, because he sounds like so much like Andrew
Lucket's gonna be great, It's be outstanding. Oh well, Nick
Saban's coming back to coach Stanford. I just heard Andrew
Luck say that it was fantastic.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Uh exit ab out of Fresca.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Exit swollen down the Jason Smithson with Mike Carmon Live
from the TIREC dot Com Studios, coming up next. It
looks like the Lakers are in full meltdown mode. Magic
Johnson said he's embarrassed about the Lakers play in their
forty one point loss tonight and JJ Reddick pointing fingers
at his team? Is he pointing fingers at Lebron He's
(16:09):
saying we're not together in the huddles. What does Rick
Buker have to say about that? All number one Fox

Keelty Tonight's show posted right after do we get off
the air?
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Well, we were kind of humming along with a non
NBA E Cup night, and then all of a sudden,
the Lakers said, hang on a second, we want to
get involved in some drama. They get pasted tonight by
the Heat by forty one. Okay, they haven't played well
the last few nights, okay, and then head coach JJ
Reddick following the game blistered his team, saying, look, physically,
(17:25):
I can't do these things. I can't call out assignments,
I can't call the plays out. I'm not blaming the players,
which when you say that, you kind of are blaming
the players. But he says there needs to be accountability,
and he also sees there being no togetherness when they're
in the huddle.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Here we are twenty.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Two games into the season and JJ Redick may be
in over his head as Lakers head coach.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Gee who said that a few you know, Let's talk.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
To Rick Puker find out what he thinks about this
and more. Fox Sports one NBA Insider. He is on
Twitter at Rick Puker the On the Ball podcast as well.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Rick. What's happening, Bud? How are you?
Speaker 7 (18:00):
Oh? I'm enjoying this little respite in between the holidays.
So I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
By the way, Yeah we did. Everything was great. Did
you go out of town? Did you were you in town?
Speaker 4 (18:11):
What did you do?
Speaker 7 (18:12):
Nope? Laid low, laid low. My son came home from school.
My daughter is playing basketball right now, so she wasn't
able to come home, so we're gonna go visit her
in a little bit. But no, it it was we're
I'm here in northern California and we've been having unbelievable weather.
So I was on the golf course, was down.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
By the ocean.
Speaker 7 (18:35):
I was kind of doing I was doing that that
North cal thing around the holidays.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
So it's been better for you than the Lakers the
last few games.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
Man man, oh man, oh Man.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
I would I would say so.
Speaker 7 (18:50):
But look, this was this was my thing from the
very beginning.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
You know.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
I remember being asked a question on on f S
one and when they first hired hired he Reddick, and
and I was asked, can JJ Reddick coach this.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Team to a championship?
Speaker 6 (19:08):
He's got to be kidding me, Like, what are we
talking about?
Speaker 7 (19:11):
We've got a first And it's not it's not Jj
so much as you're asking a first year coach who's
never really coached at any significant level to elevate a
team that doesn't have the wherewithal to uh to compete
for a championship. They just don't. They don't have the
talent at this point. And Lebron had a great game tonight,
(19:34):
but if you look at what he has been doing
of late, it's I've referred to him as an even player,
which is his good plays are evening out the bad plays.
But for the Lakers to be just competent, he needs
(19:54):
to be a plus player, and for the most part
he was. I would say up until what we've seen
this season, and maybe even through the first few games,
he was a plus player. But he has been very
much an even player. And the problem is that they
just don't have the talent to take up take up
the slack when when he is that. So I understand
the frustration. I understand the frustration on JJ's part, but
(20:17):
I will say this too, that look, there's a number
of things that have gone on with this team that
you can't ignore. And when you have the whole Ronnie
James episode, and you do that, and and then and
JJ has to come out and say, no, you know,
he's a legit player, and all this stuff, like when
you don't have a track record as a coach, that
(20:39):
erodes whether anybody says anything or not, that erodes your
authority and your credibility. So now, when when you start
getting mad at guys for not playing.
Speaker 6 (20:49):
They're like, well, you said some things that didn't.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Quite make sense to us earlier, So what exactly should
we believe? And so I I look at where they are,
what they have. I can understand the frustration. But let's
be honest. I mean, we kind of saw this coming.
And here's the this is always the real test for
(21:16):
a head coach, it's not and for a team, it's
not when you're winning as they were through the first
week or two. It's when you hit one of these
bumps which every team hits. How are you going to
respond to it? How are you going to pull your
team together? And I'm sorry, but I don't want to
(21:38):
hear about all the things that guys, you know, everybody
pointing out what guys aren't doing. I want to hear
the guy who says, you know what, it's on me,
I need to do this better in order for us
to be better. And I'm not hearing that. And to me,
that suggests that there is no roadmap out of this.
(22:00):
I lak it's gonna be this way all year. I
wouldn't expect that. But are they going to have some
miracle turnaround? I don't expect that either.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Well, but there's the hard part to it, Rick, is
that you've had to play Lebron eight a night to
get to where you are, which I brought up to
Jason earlier.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
I bring it up here.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
They're behind the pace of Darvin Ham's team now with
the same problems and now Magic Johnson calling things embarrassing,
so they've activated him.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
Well, yeah, I mean here's the thing. I mean tonight
was just you know, they've had they've had several games
where defensively they're just not giving effort and they're not communicating.
Like this is where you know they propped up Anthony
Davis as being that guy. Well, Anthony Davis, if he's
going to be that guy, has to be a vocal guy,
(22:50):
and he's never been and he hasn't been here. He's
I've really admired the way he's played over the last
couple of years, and for the most part, how he's
played this year. But you're asking him to be something
as a leader, and a leader isn't just like your
best player or your top scorer or any of those things.
(23:13):
It's the person who, when things get a little wobbly,
knows exactly what he needs to do in order for
you to play, and he knows what everybody else needs
to do, and he's going to let them know what
it is that they need to do in order for
this team to come back together. And I just don't
see the person on this team that can fill that role.
(23:35):
And you say, well, what about Lebron, Well, I mean, honestly,
Lebron at his age not surprising. He's playing great for
a guy. And we keep saying this, but now we
say it louder. It's in capital letters. He's playing well
for a guy about to turn forty, not just he's
playing well period. And with him not playing well, it's
(23:59):
like his ability to make everybody else better simply isn't there.
And that's always been how he's le He's led.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
He's really not that much.
Speaker 7 (24:07):
Of a vocal leader. If you look at the teams
that have won championships, there's always been other guys that
have been those vocal guys. Lebron basically leads by the
way he plays and by example. And I just look
to the bottom line is they just said it from
the beginning of the years, so I thought it was
crazy you'd talk about them as a championship caliber team.
They just they don't have the talent. They have Anthony Davis,
(24:31):
they have a thirty nine year old Lebron James, and
then but Austin Reeves. Okay, And I mean then what
you might have three players at best that you could
see being part of a championship equation and the rest
are just guys.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Now hang on a second, though, Rick, I mean, I
think you have to give some teams a little bit
of time to get over getting eliminated from the Emirates Cup.
I mean, it's going to be a little bit of
recovery for these emotions, the emotional toll they're gonna take off.
The Lakers need some time to get they were the
champions last year or the E Cup.
Speaker 7 (25:08):
Yeah, it's did you guys see the clip? There was
a clip I put out on U of the Lakers
and the Suns, and they were it was looked like
an All Star game. They were just going back and forth,
shooting three, walking up, shooting three, missing them right. And
then somebody, somebody had the audacity to say, well it
was because of the score differential.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
It's the Emirates Cup, and it's like God to kidding me,
Like you know, I mean I didn't think they could
care less. It's almost gone the opposite way, and it
went because that was a that was a cup game,
and it looked like they cared less than they did.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
For a regular season game.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
It was almost like, uh, I don't any of you
guys would to play an eighty third game.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Hell no, let's check this.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Over with now.
Speaker 7 (26:03):
It's it's you know, anytime you start going to gimmicks
to try to or you or you try to buy
guys effort, like if we put another can we dangle
another half a mill in front of it? We guys,
please play hard with guys that you know, for the
most part, are are already have generational wealth. It's like, man,
(26:25):
we're we're we're trying to put we're trying to put
band aids on this thing, and and and in more serious,
you know, taking this a little more seriously, like the
game is. There are a lot of games that are
very difficult to watch right now because of the number
of threes that are being taken and and threes that
(26:47):
are being missed back and forth. And I don't like
the Sun's Lakers game is a perfect example. The Sons
are up by sixteen, and the Lakers are making no
effort to defend, Like you don't need to be suns,
you don't need to be taking threes, and you don't
like just.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Go to the cup.
Speaker 7 (27:05):
They're gonna let you go there like you're guaranteed too, Like,
go ahead and take that rather than jacking threes that
lead to long rebounds that actually give the Lakers half
a chance. So just to we always look at it
as like a mathematical equation, it just makes it makes
sense to shoot enough threes. Shoot threes at a thirty
five percent clip, it's better than shooting the twos at
(27:25):
a fifty percent clip. And that's the that's the mathematical equation.
Accept accept it doesn't take into account time and score.
And there's times where you can punish a team. There's
a psychological thing about a team having to take the
ball out of the basket over and over again. If
it's and it doesn't matter whether it's twos or threes,
(27:47):
if the team's constantly scoring, I guarantee you that coach
is going to call a time out to try to
fix his defense. But when you're shooting threes and sixty
percent of them are not hitting the mark and going
the other way, and you're giving the other team the
feeling like we're still in this. They're letting us still
be in this. And you know, in the big picture,
(28:08):
the NBA is going to have to figure something out
because this is all trending the wrong direction, and with
the Boston Celtic's being successful at it, it really doesn't
inhibit anybody from saying, we're going to try to play
a different way.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
All right, Rick, Lastly, as you're getting set for the holidays,
here another couple of weeks with you know, a quarter
of the way through the NBA schedule. If I said
to you, positive or negative, the most surprising.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Storyline for you so far this year in the.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
NBING, whether it's something happens to positive, something happening negative, like, hey,
I can't believe the Knicks are scoring one hundred and
fifty points a game. Whatever it is, Well, what's your
biggest surprise so far this season?
Speaker 6 (28:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (28:48):
That was that? Was that a plant? I mean, how
much time do we have because if it's like fifteen
seconds and I'll just go, yeah, that's it.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
A bit cho.
Speaker 7 (28:58):
No, I mean I would have to say what the
Cleveland Cavaliers have done coming out of the gate. I
don't know if they're quite this good, but man I
I I thought that they would hold serve this year
and it still remains to be seen what they're what
they'll be as a postseason team. But the defensive mindset
(29:19):
that JB. Bickerstaff instilled in this team. And then Kenny
Atkinson I think, having from what I've heard, a better
UH connection with Donovan Mitchell has has sprung this team
UH to a new level. And and obviously Devin Mobley
(29:41):
coming making good on on what every everybody anticipated that
he could be. He looks like a different player this
year pretty much at both ends of the court, but
especially offensively so to me that you know outside obviously
obviously coming juggernaut. Yeah, that would be the Cows will
(30:07):
be a close second. There you go.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker that is at Rick
Buker check Out, is on the Ball podcast in which
he's gonna break down the MVP chances for Big Bodega.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Rick. Thanks a bunch, It's always buddy, we'll talk to you.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
The things you get me to say on this show
is unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Saved forever more, Rick, See you buddy, we'll talk to
you next week.
Speaker 7 (30:29):
I have a great one.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
You're the best.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Right now, he's looking up pig Bodega.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Let's find out what's trending in the wide world of
sports and someone you can tell how upset she is
over the Clippers tonight just by the tone of her
voice when she gives you the score of the game.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
It's Monsie.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
I don't even know where to start, Jason, I don't
I don't even know what to say here, but I
will say there's no stat padding on the Clipper side
because none of the starters are playing in this blowout
game here, unlike they're la there.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
It's that padding on the other side.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
But yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah uh.
Speaker 8 (31:05):
It's just been literally all Timberwolves. This entire game is
quite embarrassing.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
One hundred and seventy six to four, that's exactly it.
Speaker 8 (31:12):
And those four came from abatz Zubats because James Harden
has only made one shot. So after I yelled at halftime,
he heard and he said, I'm just gonna make one shot.
That's it. And that's exactly what it did. One O
three seventy three is a score with two minutes to
go in this one. But just call it a rap,
you know what I'm saying, Like, do we have to
finish out these two minutes?
Speaker 3 (31:31):
But I guess we do.
Speaker 8 (31:32):
Celtics beat the Pistons one thirty to one twenty. Jaylen
Brown led the way twenty eight points, six rebounds, nine assists.
The Nets took down the Pacers ninety nine to ninety
and the Lakers lost to the Heat one thirty four
to ninety three. Tyler Hero nine threes in the game
for a total of thirty one points. Lebron James still
playing in the fourth quarter to get his twenty nine
points and eight assists. The Magic beats seventy six Ers
(31:52):
one oh six to one oh two, while the Hawks
snapped the Bucks seven game winning streak, coming out on
top of one nineteen to one oh four. Still got
some college hoops going on right now. Number twelve Oregon
now on top of USC they were losing not anymore.
Sixty two to fifty seven is a score with two
and a half minutes to go in the game. Number
twenty four San Diego State has pulled away from Fresno
State in the second half seventy to fifty one, Less
(32:14):
than six minutes to go in that one, while number
five Marquette lost to number six Iowa State eighty one
to seventy. But the real story is Creighton handing the
number one team in the country Kansas is their first
loss of the season, a seventy six to sixty three
win and Mississippi State crushing Number eighteen Pittsburgh ninety to
fifty seven. Number nine Duke. They beat Number two Auburn
(32:35):
eighty four to seventy eight. Number ten Alabama took down
number twenty North Carolina victory also for number thirteen Florida
and number twenty five Yukon who took down number fifteen
Baylor seventy six to seventy two. Little NFL news for you,
like Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence who was placed on IR
with a concussion concussion earlier today. Then it was reported
that he is gonna have surgery on that ac joint
(32:57):
injury in his left shoulder in the coming week, so
really is over. Mac Jones is going to be taking
over the starting quarterback job in Jacksonville for Week fourteen.
This the Giants are seeking with Drew Locke as their
starting quarterback against the Saints, while the Ravens have suspended
wide receiver Deontae Johnson for one game for contact detrimental
to the team. Apparently he refused to go into the
game this past Sunday against the Eagles, so he's gonna
(33:18):
miss Week fifteen against the Giants.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Back to you, guys, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (33:23):

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon,
Live from the Tireck dot Com Studios. Guy, I would
kill Papa Doc. I would just kill him in a freestyle.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
So a big story in a couple of weeks, so
you can prepare before you go back to Detroit. This
is true.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
This is true, This is true. But I'm feeling pretty
good now. I'm kind of feeling it after that, after
that work right there.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
So look, it's a big day in college football.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
We'll get to National signing Day and the latest on
the playoff poll that came out a day ago in
a few minutes. There's a great new angle with this
to make you look at the playoff poll just a
little bit differently. But kind of a shocking story today
came out that Central Florida UCF has asked into potentially
(34:49):
getting Lincoln Riley away.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
From USC to become their new head coach.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Wait, wait a minute, what wait Central Florida you know
what the buyout is for Lincoln Riley at USC. Wait
wait a minute, but UCF inquired. This made it all
the way to Lincoln Riley's press conference today where he
unequivocally stated he is not interested and he is a
USC trojan.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Take a listen, I tell him, I'm a USC trophan.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
This is I'm at the place I want to be.
So that's it's a non starter. It's a non issue.
That's a home.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Yeah, let's get let's talk about it being a non
starter with USC. This is this is like Christmas coming.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Early for USC. Wait a minute, so there's somebody else
that wants him? He is this has not worked. We
have gotten worse every year. There's been no honeymoon period.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
We're not winning, we're not getting the recruits, We're not
nothing is going right. We are on the hook for
another seventy million dollars. Will Ferrell only has so much
money to buy us out of this thing, and another
school wants him. They would have to pay some of
the money to get him away out. Did USC not say, well, Lincoln,
you know, let's not be too hasty on this. Uh, well,
why don't you go talk to them? See what they say. No,
(36:02):
we know you love us. I'm I'm okay, I am
okay with you if you really want to go talk
to How has USC not made this happen already? This
would get them out of all of their issues. Do
you really think you're you're a season away from him
turning things around? Every year has gotten worse. You walked
in the first year with Blittannikoff finalists and Heisman Trophy winners,
and you underachieved. And last year wasn't as good as
(36:25):
the first year, And this year is not as good
as last year. It's like the Hunger Games trilogy on television,
the movie. The first one was good, the second one
not so good. If there one not as good? I mean, really,
do you think year four is gonna get better?
Speaker 7 (36:37):
Like?
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Oh no, now we figured things out, Recruiting is gonna
is gonna work or good? You're lucky you're going to
a bowl game. You were probably sixty minutes away from
losing the UCLA for potentially losing your job. How is
USC not facilitating to make this happen where they can
start over at head coach now? Because clearly since he
came in, this hasn't worked. Like there's there's been no
(36:57):
honeymoon period. There's been no Hey, we love Lincoln Riley.
We're wrapping our arms around him. It's not even arms
length with Lincoln Riley. This is like full body lengths
that Lincoln Riley is away from the USC fan base.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
The fan base can't stand him. He's not winning games.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
I don't get how USC is not have him on
a plane to UCF right now.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
So this is TV movie equivalent, righty here, You're gonna
love this one. This is I'm going to send myself
flowers and chocolates to make my boyfriend or husband jealous,
to make sure he still wants and loves me, he
still needs me around all of that stuff, or the
(37:38):
I have to convince the people in the office that
things are all good in my life, so I get
the chocolates and everything else that loves still there.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Same thing here.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
This is also the gambler that we talked about earlier,
you know, saying he had inside information sources who do
you think called UCF or the Bears or anywhere else
that you know you've seen Lincoln Riley's name tangentially extended
to what member of the media locally or I don't know,
maybe his agent, And you know, it be really helpful
(38:10):
to us to show that Lincoln still has some suitors
out there, that he's still desirable as a coach, even
if the buyout would be what seventy to ninety or whatever.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
The upward end of all of that is, when it's
all said and done, it's it's just laughable. Yeah, let
me get in front. Hey, you know, I am a trophy.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
You haven't been every opportunity you've had to say, I'm
putting my stamp on things and we've got control of this,
and this is the direction you've failed. Everything's been one
excuse making and we're one play away, one decision away.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
All of that.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
He needs to take some time to heal. Who is
this on the phone telling me about this? Is Tinklin' Kylie,
That's who this is right here. I've done in prank caller,
prank caller, prank caller, prank call Uh. I really when
this story came out today, I said, oh my goodness,
Oh my goodness, is what what a what a holiday
(39:08):
gift just dropped in the lap of USC.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
We can get out from under this.
Speaker 5 (39:13):
All I could say, though, is if they come up
with ninety million on the other side for you see
f faster.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Then you know what that Hey, that's a whole.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
This tells you how rich colleges are way to be,
you see f potential And it probably wouldn't pay all
of it.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
They would play. USC would be so happy.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
They would say, look, we'll just we'll pay, We'll go
hasis with you on it, We'll split.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
It with you.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
But I mean they they have fifty million dollars, you see,
that's fair. I was trying to look at see who
famous alumni were from Central Florida, saying, who's who's donating
on anybody to help? Let me see hang on, you
see you find I found hang on. Cheryl Hines okay, okay,
got money? Uh yeah, okay, Dan, she's married to yeah,
(39:53):
Daniel tosh Okay. So maybe between the two of them
is what it is there? You go, Yeah, it's it's
it's not a big long list. It's it's it's not
a big one. That's tough either way. What does that say? Hey,
you had the keys into uh USC and you blew it.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
What a gift for USC.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Two big college football stories coming up next Fox
