(00:52):
at about twenty minutes all the latest news inside the NBA,
And let me just say this right now, just under
five minutes to go in the fourth quarter, and the
Knicks are losing tonight right now to Naji Marshall and
Di'angelo Russell. They've combined for forty five off the bench.
(01:13):
The Mavericks lead the Knicks one oh six, one oh three.
Of course, no Ad, no Cooper flag tonight he's out
with an illness. I mean, I know it's November, but
I say this, Mike. If the Knicks who are who
can't haven't won on the road yet. If you can't
beat the Mavericks on the road when they're playing without
their two best players, what road game are you gonna win? Like?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Really, what road game are you gonna Now.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
They're gonna go and uh, they're gonna go winless on
the road, But really, I think about them as contenders
and go, what road game are you gonna win? Brunson
came back tonight? Yes, no o ganna nob he doesn't matter.
It should be a we should be a walkthrough game.
And instead no, no, here they are right now. They
gotta pull out a victory against Dallas. Uh to avoid
that embarrassment because man, I'll tell you what. They start
zero to five away from home, and you can't beat
(01:57):
the Mavericks, who have said the last couple of days, hey,
we're entertaining offers for everybody.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, like what are you gonna do? Like, what are
you really gonna win?
Speaker 1 (02:06):
I mean, I know I like to say that, Hey,
if the Knicks think it means we're getting honest to
the deadline. But I didn't expect to be dealing with
this part this early in the season.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Is still November.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Well, what he got sixty two points off the bench
for Mavericks today, Come on from pillar to post.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Look, I think some of.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
It was they were inspired by all of the rhetoric
going around in Dallas, to your point anybody's available for trade,
some of the stuff from last week of hey, we're
not doing anything with Anthony Davis until everybody signs off
on every possible medical Why because we want to trade him, right,
all of those things.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
But certainly in the.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Last twenty four to forty eight hours, all of the
Nico Harrison versus Mark Cubans slap fighting, and in every
one of those quotes, the anonymous quotes going through the newspapers,
is how terrible all these guys that are on.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
The roster are so?
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, the Knicks are coming to town, the big bad bullies,
and all the hype before the season. If for one
night you can rally around and play some good, de
decent basketball, I mean somewhere between there, I don't know,
it's tie game inside of four minutes. But look, everybody
can rally up. It's like I can tell my kids
(03:22):
all the time. You may not want to do this assignment.
You may be dreading this assignment, this group project.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Eventually it'll be over, so shut up and get over
with it. The same thing with the Mavericks. Eventually, you
guys are not gonna be playing together. So go out
give a good effort.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, I'll tell you. I mean, I mean, I said,
if they can't win this, like, when are they gonna win? Like?
When are they gonna win?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Like?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
What what happened? We have to get Yannis tomorrow. We
gotta get Yannis tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
But hey, hey, you still have another thirty what thirty
three games?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Thirty two games at home? Oh?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Man, see I get just put you in a better
frame of mind right there, another thirty.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Six on the road. It's got more games on the road,
that's what it's got.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Uh So one o six, one oh six, three and
a half left to go? Uh in the game again,
we'll have more in this game coming up with Rick
Buker in a few minutes, he'll.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Make fun of you twenty minutes. The Yeah, that'll have
tik tik tik tik tik TikTok cleeries. But uh, we
are a day removed. Now.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Lebron made his Lakers season debut last night. Now is
good because part of my birthday I got to watch.
We got to watch some of this game, which I
was pretty happy with. And the thing is, now, I gotta,
I gotta, I gotta give credit where credits due, right,
I always say I do. Uh, this was better than
than any scenario I expected what Lebron James' return to
(04:44):
the Laker lineup was going to be, right season high
end points. Uh, he is able to playmake and at
one point, you know, six assists in a row and
in like a in like a six minute span in
the third quarter. Like he's able to assimilate and fit
in and really be.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
The coach on the floor.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
It was better than I absolutely ever expected from Lebron James.
Not that I thought he was gonna come in. It
was gonna be difficult. He was a come in and
go come on, hey, give me the ball. Time for
me to shoot. I know about you, guys, I haven't
shot all season. Give me the ball, gameball. Not that
I expected that, but for Lebron to come in and
just fit in like this is a really big deal.
(05:24):
Like I did not expect him to come in and say, hey,
you know what, I'll be able to do this. But
Lebron is smart and he understands that coming into this,
I can't come in and just be who I was,
because if we lose, if I miss some shots, I
know what it's gonna look like, and all of a sudden,
even the remainder of the fans who love me or
the remainder of the teammates who love me, are gonna say,
we need way less Lebron James.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Right.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
If I come out and I play my normal game,
which is taking a majority of the shots, right, maybe
not as many as Luca, but I take a lot
of shots, the offense runs through me. If I'm that
guy and that doesn't go well, things are gonna get really,
really bad. So coming in I need to show that
I can be that playmaking guy. Remember he moved to
point guard a couple of years ago and he was
(06:07):
leading the league and assists and it was, man, look
at Lebron this, this is incredible what he's able to do.
And I still maintain that. You know, when he's really
near the end, he'll be more of a big man.
And you know, because we've seen that before too from
him from Spurts. He's able to do that, Like he'll
be a really active big man down low and and
and he'll really he'll wow us with how we can
do that. And that'll be the last act to his career.
(06:28):
Is you see him now playing He's not a guy
running the floor like he is up and down, but
he's but he's a big with all kinds of moves
and able to get to the hoop and be strong.
So but for now, being the playmaking Lebron right and
being the set up guy, he knows that this is
what's going to be the smoothest start for him.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
I come in.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
I'm not taking the shots like I normally do. I'm
okay being the facilitator. I'll take some shots here and
guess what things go okay. He'll get a lot of
great things said and written about him. Hey, Lebron, look
at the pla Lebron. Look at the the sacrifices Lebron
is making for a championship. He's a coach on the floor,
Like all of this stuff is great, and I'm sure.
(07:08):
You know, look, Lebron is very calculated and he knows
that this is the tack and the and the path
he has to take. And I expect to see more
of this type of stuff from Lebron for a while.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Now. The biggest question is how long can he do this?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Can he really be the facilitator and the coach on
the floor and not taking the shots all the way
to the end? Can he do that at the end
of the season. Can he do it when when it's
winning time and in the playoffs? When can he Can
he really be this guy all the way through? Because
if Lebron can, if Lebron can be the facilitator and
pick his spots, the Lakers have become not just a
(07:47):
pretty good contender, they'll become an NBA title contender.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Right.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
You saw what they were missing against the Thunder. You know,
it's one thing to be pretty good and really good
against most of the league, but against the Thunder, who
are playing at a level much better than everybody else,
even even better than the Pistons who want eleven in
a row.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Uh you know that?
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Okay, you need something to get up to that level
of Oklahoma City. If Lebron can be this guy they
will threat in Oklahoma City because they have everything else
they need. You saw the chemistry is fit in right
away with and the bromance with Luca and Austin Reeves.
And after the game they're joking around with each other,
and and and DeAndre Ayton has become, you know, the
guy they thought he was gonna be a big number
(08:28):
three type big man on a contending team. They can
be a big time title threat. But that's the question.
Can Lebron be this guy all the way through and
through the season and stay this guy? Or is eventually, Hey,
I I can't look at me scoring twelve points a
game anymore.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Can't do that. I gotta I gotta score more than that.
I can't. I can't sit here and have my average
be twelve nine and eight. No, no, no, that's not me.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Can Lebron do this all the way through this That's
the biggest question for the Lakers right now.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I mean a couple of things out of that game
as you watch the first half, I mean it was
clunky Defensively. You thought it was bad last year, it's
that much worse. Fortunately you play Utah. Yes, they are
technically in the playoffs, So you can sell that all
you want. The back end of the Western Conference. What's
that word you like to use so frequently? They stink,
(09:24):
all right, So they're just ahead of a bunch of
also trash components. But when we look at what Lebron
was able to do on the offensive end, Look, he's
got to get his cardio. Like he joked about it
on Monday. You know, I've got the lungs of a baby.
You know, I need to get back to the lungs
of a man. So they certainly weren't gonna run him
(09:46):
heavy minutes, and he wasn't gonna be putting full effort
on both sides of the That was just not gonna happen.
So you had some breakdowns. Eventually you were just too
good offensively, and it broke out to a fourteen point win,
covering that twelve and a half point spread. But thirty
minutes played some easy minutes, right, Rick Buker, who's gonna
(10:07):
join us? Remember he called them the Lebron James minutes
a few years ago and he tagged that, and I've
used that pretty liberally, and all the things we talked
about on air and in our lives off off the
microphones of find Yourself a Lebron minute every one.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
So what's that?
Speaker 1 (10:24):
It's you're there, but you're not having to be too active, right,
you're there, but you're not having to play at a
frenetic pace. So I think as he gets his legs
under him and he gets the cardio back, he gets
the benefit of having a five day break between these
two games.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Oh wait, who do they play Sunday? These sticking jazz again?
So you got that.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
So he gets to ease in there and the schedule
will have its its hiccups. Obviously back to back games.
Don't bank on any of those. If you're on the
second end to the second part of those, hold your breath.
You now have basically a lot of take it as
to whether he's even in the building on some of those.
But I think it can work because it'll ramp up
(11:07):
over time, and we we didn't see any grand drop off. Again,
it's the jazz, but for one night, as he gets
away from having to answer questions about sciatica, do you
think he will do a PSA where he gets paid?
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Hi, I'm Lebron James, Okay, anyway to make money? Yeah,
maybe he can do it. I mean Aaron Sell Sell Sell,
he kind of has to.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I mean, that's why he came back to the Lakers,
because there was fifty two million plus on the board,
so all for a little more. I mean, if he
if he is okay playing a complimentary role all season long, boy,
that's great for the Lakers. But I don't know, I
don't know that he could do it. I don't know,
wonder if it's great, he could do it for a
(11:56):
little while. He could do it for a little while.
But if he wants to keep playing, he knows this
is gonna be his last year with the Lakers and
he's gonna have to play someplace else, and he wants
to show everybody that, yeah, I'm still that that that
heavy talent Lebron James and not well, I'm somebody a
complidy he would bring him in as a number three.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Yeah, No, I don't. I don't think Lebron.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Lebron's not happy being just one of the pieces of
the puzzle. Like he's gonna be okay with it for
a while because he knows it's gonna be good publicity
because he needs that because the Lakers have started out
really well without him. He knows he needs to get
back into a and have a positive optic for him,
But like, I don't know, man, can can he can
he really do that all season long before he turns
(12:34):
back into Alpha Lebron, Like, that's the that's the biggest question.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
I don't know that he can. Can you can someone
in his circle convince him for the legend?
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Right?
Speaker 1 (12:46):
And this is what we keep talking about, a guy
who calls himself King for crying out loud for the
legend of it, that this would be his greatest act.
It's one thing to score and be dominant. It's another
to recognize how you can take it to that next level.
We talked about this in spurts, like James Harden just
went across twenty eight thousand points for his career, but
what's his greatest act? The last couple of years, it's
(13:08):
been about being a distributor, right, about being able to
sublimate that need for thirty five shots and a sore
elbow to helping the rest of your team facilitate. For Lebron, James,
if you were to do that, oh, I don't know,
that might take you into this whole other level, at
least in your own mind. When you put out your
(13:29):
autobiographies and documentaries about your career, when you're done, exit
out about a Fresco exit Swallen Dome. Jason Smith Mike
Harmon Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Look, that's
how good Lebron's debut was. That's what he can bring
to the team. But it really would be something. But man,
that ego and what he is, I'm still the straw
that stirs the drink man again for a while.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
I think it'll be fine. You know, through the.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Holidays into the new year. Lakers are winning everything. But
he's he really gonna be okay being that guy all
the way. He's really gonna be okay. He'll look, he'll
be okay with not getting And the one thing I
think he'll love is that, Hey, I can pass the
ball at the end of every game. Now, people aren't
gonna get mad at me. No, I don't have to,
you know, because they get mad.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
They only are.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Happy if I if I take the shot and I
make it. If I take the shot and I miss,
they're mad. If I and if I pass the ball,
they're mad. So you know what, I'm okay passing the
ball all the time is now said luking off. You
guys want these guys to take the shots. Okay, that's
what we're gonna do. So I think he'll be happy
with that, and he'll in those situations he's good and
so that that'll help fuel.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Him for a while. But telling man, you get past
the All Star break and then then this.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Then the storyline changes to, hey, the unselfish Lebron coach
on the floor too. Well, this is what Lebron had
to do because he you know, he's clearly not the
same player.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
No, no, no, he's not gonna be cool with that. Man,
not gonna be cool with it.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
You want two things, uh, DeAndre ay and saying yeah,
it was great to get that Ali up. The last
time was I was in eighth grade at a camp Okay.
The other was a graphic on the Spectrum broadcast last night.
Eighty two guys that are currently in the NBA were
born after he made his debut. At the end of
(15:11):
our Jober of twenty two thousand and three, Wow Man
Exit out, Vya Fresca Exit, Swallenduve, Jason Smith, Mike Carbon.
We got Rick Bucker coming up next. All the big
news in the NBA is he really believing in the
team that's leading the Eastern Conference right now. More on
the Lakers and the Mavericks potential fire sale. Next Jason

Speaker 2 (15:49):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get to and that's why we have a
brand new podcast called over Promised. You see, we're having
so much fun in our two hour show. We never
get to everything, honestly, because this guy is over promising things.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
We never have time for. Yeah, you blubber listen, m
and me.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years. Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show,
and we want you to be a part of it.
We're gonna be talking sports, of course, but we're also
going to talk life and relationships and if Rich and
I are arguing about something or we didn't have enough time,
it will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure
(16:28):
you check out over Promised and also Uncensored by the way,
so maybe we'll.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Go at it even a little harder.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Fox Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. It ain't easy being a Knicks fan,
that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
So the Knicks have a.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Three point lead and the basketball twice in the final
twenty three seconds.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
However, they go oh for four from the free throw line.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Landry Shammit misses two, Mitchell Robinson misses two Dan and
now now it's a one point game with six seconds
left to go.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
The Knicks have the basketball. They're gonna have to make
a free throw to win this game. Oh for five.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
All they had to do is go one for four
and the game is likely over, but instead no oh
for four. So now we have a game six seconds
left time out on the floor, Knicks lead by a point.
You've missed fifteen three throws in this game, dude. I know, man,
it's like I'm watching series last night. I know it's
all your field goal percentages almost as high as your
free throwers.
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, you know, there's a reason they call him free
for a reason.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
But you know, not not quite for us, not quite.
Uh So we'll have more on this game coming up
in a few minutes. Getting set to join us now
on the hot line f S one NBA insider Extraordinary
Rick Buker. Check out the On the Ball podcast as well,
in which he will have a twenty minute tutorial on
shooting free throws on the next episode.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Rick, what's happening, man? How are you?
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (18:06):
I'm good, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
You know.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
It does fascinate me for all that guys are able
to do, and they can knock down thirty footers, but
if you just silence everything and you put them at
the line and there's no motion, it's like, I guess
it's like the three.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Four foot putt, right, It's like, how do.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
You miss that?
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Well?
Speaker 7 (18:25):
Find a way you find away?
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Noisy in your head? Absolutely, well, that's exactly right, boy.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
All right, So now the outcome of this game, notwithstanding
right still six seconds left, Knicks have the basketball. It's
been a lost season for the Mavericks. They We've heard
a lot of reports the last few days that everybody
but Cooper Flag is available in a trade. It could
be a d it could be Kyrie Irving when he
comes back. Do you really think it's going to be
a blow up and start over situation in Dallas?
Speaker 4 (18:53):
I think there's a lot of potential for that.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
It's it's gonna be easier said than done, simply because.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
We don't know yet what teams are willing.
Speaker 7 (19:03):
To give up for either one of them, and it's
probably going to be later rather than sooner. It's not
like immediately you go out and say, well, let's do
whatever we can to get an Anthony Davis or even
a Kyrie Irving for my money. I'm not sure that
I move Kyrie. I think that his value when he
gets back, to have him there playing with Cooper Flag,
(19:25):
I think there's a way to make that work.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
With Anthony Davis is the matter in terms of what
you can get.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
But it's almost it's almost like getting rid of Nico Harrison,
just to get rid of the sting and the stain
of what was connected to what was connected to moving
Luka Datchis and I had to laugh because we just
missed another free throw.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Jalen br R now missing a free throw.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Yeah, yeah, goodness gracious.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
So at three point eight, even if he makes this one,
there's enough time for Dallas to get up yet another
three point shot and potentially send this to overtime where
where we could watch more miss free throws.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
So let's let's all root to that.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
The the Off the Ball podcast, The Off and Yeah
Podcast by Rick Buker.
Speaker 7 (20:20):
Yeah, but the other the other part of it is like,
and this is where I think that they.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
You know, as crazy as this sounds, like, Nico.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
Harrison did build a roster that went.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
To the finals. It did have Luka Doncics, Lukadantis was
huge in that. But they were a team that was
treading water until oh my.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
God, offensive foul the nick basketball.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Who just the way they drew it, just the way
they drew it up. How do you Yeah, that's a
tough call.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Well, if you're not making free throws, you're drawing an
offensive foul. The Knicks are going to get the ball
back with seven tenths of a second left. Dallas was
going in for a game time layup instead the Knicks
all they have to do is all they have to
do is inbound the ball and win this game.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
And now, I mean easier said than dolls.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
You say, fell them again.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
See you can get a couple more mysterets, that's right.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
I mean it can't.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
It's not gonna change the game.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
But you know, well, look I was gonna say this Rick,
you know, from from the Mavericks to the Knicks, Like
if the Knicks couldn't beat the Mavericks on the road tonight,
the Mavericks no a d no Cooper flag sitting out
with an illness, like I know it's only November.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
But man, what games are you're gonna win? You know? Like,
what games you're gonna win?
Speaker 1 (21:35):
If you can't beat this Dallas team that's basically quit
on the road, Like what what what games are you
gonna win? I don't I don't know. I don't know
what you're gonna do on the road. I don't know
how many games you're gonna win. If that's the case,
I will.
Speaker 7 (21:47):
Say this, it's a weird it's a weird vibe around
the Knicks. I don't know whether it's the like it's
the kids hangover because there was just so many guys
Uh on the team that were devoted to him and
or or it.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
I don't know what it is, but the Knicks do feel.
Speaker 7 (22:09):
Like they're not having a lot of fun playing basketball together.
Whatever it might be, they don't seem to have the
same camaraderie that they had a year ago. And and
I'm not sure what's behind that. And you, I know
you you follow them closely, I assume you've seen the
(22:29):
same thing. They're just there, isn't it don't seem to
be really enthusiastic about what they're doing.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
No, it's like it's like every win is a relief
instead of instead of, Hey, we're having fun and we're
playing together, like everything's a lot of work. I feel
like it's it's a lot of work for the first
you know, three and a half weeks of the season.
It shouldn't be this much work so far for the next.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Yeah, no, I agree, I agree.
Speaker 7 (22:52):
You know, as far as the MAVs are concerned, Uh.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
It's the problem.
Speaker 7 (22:57):
I think the biggest problem is you moved me Harrison,
and now you have Michael Finley and matt Riccardy. First
of all, you couldn't decide on picking one like pick one.
Having two guys share.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
It doesn't do.
Speaker 7 (23:12):
Anything for me, and it doesn't show that ownership has
any more of a clue now than they did when
they signed off on moving Luca under cover of darkness.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
But but you have somebody who's two.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
Guys who've never done the job, and you're.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Going to have to be really.
Speaker 7 (23:30):
Surgical in what you're doing. And it depends on relationships
built and.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Understanding of the league and knowing how to negotiate a deal.
I've had the.
Speaker 7 (23:45):
Fortune of being in a GM's office while he was when.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
He got a call for a trade offer.
Speaker 7 (23:54):
And and the way the language is it's really interesting.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
It's it's all in.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
Code, and you kind of figure out what what do
you say back that.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
Is going to move this in the.
Speaker 7 (24:06):
Direction you want it to, And you get a feeling
for whether the other side is willing to do it
or how devoted they are to making it happen. It's
really it's a fascinating subculture in the NBA. And if
you've never done it, there's going to be a learning curve.
And so you have the Dallas Mavericks a Cooper flag
trying to rebuild this thing on the fly, and you
(24:29):
have two guys sharing the helm and I don't know
if you guys have ever I mean, my wife tries,
but she just does it verbally in terms of tries
to drive the car at the same time I do.
But but if you have two people trying to drive,
you know, with their hand on the steering wheel, it's.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Really not going to go very well.
Speaker 7 (24:47):
And you got and you got two guys who don't
have a driver's license.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
So I just don't like where Dallas is right now.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Yeah, A couple of things.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
First, you start the phraseology with blue Horseshoe loves and
then get some Wall Street in while we're at it.
The other is Michael Finley earned that job by having
to take the beer. He was the fall guy that
got ripped. How the hell does he not have a
higher title?
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, well you know what.
Speaker 7 (25:18):
Here's the thing too, And Brendan Haywood just said this
on on my Finding the Scenes podcast, and he talked
about how he did a job. He did a game
down there about a year before the trade, and he
was shocked there was no one in the organization that
(25:39):
really had anything good to say about Luca. They were
all kind of frustrated with his diva behavior and his
just didn't listen, and there was a lot of frustration
within that organization. And I know people out there will say, well, Nico,
you know, categorically got rid of all the people that
(26:00):
Luca liked, and I think that's based on what Brennan
told me. That's because no one was holding Luca accountable
and so Nico wanted to find.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
People that were that were going to do that.
Speaker 7 (26:14):
And I think I said it to you guys at
the time. I always thought that, you know what, Luca
hasn't been dedicated defensively, hasn't been dedicated conditioning wise, but
getting traded and the way he reacted emotionally, that might
just be the kick in the ass that he needs
and he's going to end up being the player that
(26:34):
everyone had hoped he would be in Dallas for the Lakers.
And not to say that he didn't have great so
obviously had great success in Dallas, but there was a
concern that with all the conditioning and the injuries and
all of that when you're about to load up three
hundred and forty five million dollars on him like that,
that was going to be.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
A bad bet. And I can't I can't argue with
the concern about that.
Speaker 7 (26:57):
But now you're in a place where you're trying to
salve it and move people out so you can just
kind of erase what happened, and doing that just to
get people out of the building is going to lengthen
the process of recovering from it.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
NBA insider Rick Buker, our guest Jason Smith Mike Harmon
Live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, now,
you mentioned the Lakers, and they had a bit of
a minor story last night, the return of Lebron James
their fourth option.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Now, look, I've talked about this. I'm gonna give you.
I'm gonna give you a statement, and you tell me
you agreed disagree.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
If Lebron can be the playmaking coach on the floor,
Lebron that we saw last night one hundred and forty points,
I can. I can be the facilitator boy. The Lakers
title odds just took a huge upward tick. But yeah,
really be this guy all season long. Is he really
(27:54):
gonna be okay, averaging eleven points a game. I don't
know that leban can do this all season. Lie.
Speaker 7 (28:01):
Yeah, Well, there's one more caveat and that they play
the Utah Jazz or teams that are defensively like them
for a mature of the rest of.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Okay, Hey, they're a playoff team though. Rick, Yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Think the bigger issue actually is and I just you know,
in the face of it, Lebron.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
That's as old as I've ever seen him look, and
it's understandable that he hasn't played and he's jumping into
you know, guys that have been playing for a month now,
and at NBA speed.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
There's always going to be that pickup.
Speaker 7 (28:43):
But I mean, guys were just flying by him in
transition in half court and it's not the offensive aspect
of it.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Yes, to answer your question, if he were willing to
play that role, then I.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
Think that's the only way that it has a chance
of working. But there's a flip side to this is
that even in that role, you're taking the playmaking responsibility
away from Austin. Reeves had these averaging seven and a
half assists on the season. He had one assist last night,
(29:21):
he wasn't in the same playmaking role. Marcus Smart played
a season low seventeen minutes.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
You're going to have to squeeze some.
Speaker 7 (29:31):
Other people in order to get Lebron the minutes and
the touches that he had last night as modest as
they might have been, and you're going to take him
away from Offensively, Lebron's much better than Marcus, but I
would make the case that Marcus is better a defender
than Lebron. And when you're looking at the pieces that
(29:54):
you need around Luca and Austin, what is more important
equality defense or another playmaker. So that's where it gets
really interesting, because even just making the room for Lebron
that they made last night means less for Marcus Smart
and less for Austin Reeves. And at this stage, I
(30:19):
don't know that that's necessarily a trade you want to make.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
So this is without question going to be very interesting.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
All Right, we're watching on winning streak with the craziness
of the Detroit Pistons. Jason can actually go back home
because he loves them so much. Are they going to
be at the top when we're talking about this team
in April?
Speaker 7 (30:40):
I don't see any reason why they can't keep this
up for the rest of the year. They have depth,
they have a great leadership leader in Kate Cunningham. They
have an experienced coach who they clearly buy into his
program in JB.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Bickerstaff.
Speaker 7 (30:57):
So I have no reason to think that they can
they can't keep this up. Now, the question is going
to be like what does the postseason look like? And
it's really going to come down to matches. But I
will say this too, I feel like the Eastern.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Conference is as wide open as it's ever been.
Speaker 7 (31:17):
Boston obviously not going to be a factor this year.
I'm not buying Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Cleveland, not necessarily, I don't.
I don't see them being as any different than than
the Detroit Pistons. So what I will be interested in
(31:38):
seeing is, yes, they can they can have a great
regular season.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Can they can they.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Get to the conference finals? That that I don't know
that it might be a little early for that.
Speaker 7 (31:49):
If they went around and they have a tough second round,
I would say that that would that would make for
a not only a successful season.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
But based on what I see that they.
Speaker 7 (31:59):
Have that that would meet the quota for what they're
capable of.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
He's on Twitter, at Rick Buker, that is at Rick Buker.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Rick has always appreciated I'll enjoy your Nick Free Throws
podcast when you put it up tomorrow, and uh, we'll

Speaker 7 (32:16):

Speaker 2 (32:23):

Landry Shaman from three to twenty twenty five Exactly how
the Knicks drew it up right, sure one d percent,
Absolutely no Cooper flagging. This one for the Mavericks is
his first game missed in his young NBA career, one
thirteen to one eleven. The final score, as you heard
just outlined by Jason and Mike and Rick Buker offensive
foul at the end of it really took the drama out.

But Jalen Upson played well twenty eight points twenty three shots,
and Dangelo Russell had twenty three as well else were

Football Talk said the Bills are planning on benching Gian
Coleman again in the matchup against the Texans. Six Buccaneers,
including quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver and Mecca and
Buka were limited at walkthroughs on Wednesday because they're sick.
(34:11):
In fact, there's so many Buccaneers sick that practice on
Wednesday was a walkthrough and not an actual practice. Eagle
center Cam Durgens missed Wednesday's practice due to the concussion protocol,
and wide receiver Brandon Cooks is a free agent. After
the Saints released him, the veteran asked for its release.

It is official. He will start for the Browns on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
He will become the forty second quarterback to start a
game for the brown since they came back into the
league in nineteen ninety nine. So to celebrate this momentous occasion,
we play the forty two Quarterbacks game. I give you
the quarterback and you tell me if he started a
game for the Browns sometime in the last twenty six years.
(35:50):
Playing this game as myself, Mike Carmon, Martin Weiss, Lee
de Lap, who was in for Justin Frossburg, and Alex Tischer.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Are you guys ready? Oh yeah, all right, sho it's
born ready. Sage rosen Fels did say, you don't even
know who that is? Okay, okay, anything else? No, No
for save Rose? Okay, all right, Lee?
Speaker 9 (36:14):
What you got I think started for the Browns?
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Yes, okay, all right, sure.
Speaker 9 (36:22):
I'm gonna go. No, Sage rose Fells in Cleveland?
Speaker 1 (36:26):
All right, see Washington? Where else was Sage rosen Fells Iowa? State,
of course, co Clones, that's great. Did he start for
the Browns? Did he start for the Browns? Sage rosen
Fells did.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Not such a great name. Save that's a great pull
by you.
Speaker 9 (36:51):
Though, try harder, Jason.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Did Chase Daniel start a game for the Cleveland Browns?
Chase Daniel? He started a game for the Browns? Harvin? Sure, okay, yeah?
Why not? Hett? Why not? Martin? Why's not?
Speaker 1 (37:15):
I'm just trying to think of how many teams he
bounced through. He was around a long time.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
I'm not.
Speaker 8 (37:21):
I'm honestly less worried about how many teams he bounced through.
Speaker 9 (37:25):
How many careers starts has Chased Aneal even have?
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Wow, that's a whole about that question.
Speaker 8 (37:31):
I'm gonna go with no, because I only remember him
starting ever for Kansas City and in a in a
bad spot.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Okay, all right, Lee, what do you got I.
Speaker 9 (37:44):
I'm gonna say no, no, no for Chase.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
No one, Chase Daniel. All right, Alex Teicher, so glad
I went last? Yes, of course he did?
Speaker 9 (37:54):
People man.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Chase Daniel did I know?
Speaker 9 (38:01):
I know?
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Not for the Cleveland brown rigged? No, it's rigged. Yeah,
his old game is rigged. Did Spurgeon Win ever start
a game for the Cleveland Browns?
Speaker 1 (38:14):
He was the last quarterback selected before Brady was taken
in the in the two thousand draft, But did he
ever start a game for the Cleveland Browns?
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Spurgeon win?
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Mike Harmon, Yes, Okay, yes, because I sold a trading
card immediately after he was.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Name, like, here's your savior.
Speaker 8 (38:36):
Okay, Martin Wise, I'm gonna go Spurgeon win was a Viking?
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Yeah? And one yep, Tim, I'm going no, okay, all right,
lead to Loup.
Speaker 9 (38:52):
It's so out there it has to be. I'm gonna
say he started.
Speaker 8 (38:55):
Okay, For the record, I only know Spurgeon Woe was
a Viking in two the one from Madden.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Okay, I know there had to be a little more
of a story there, because I mean that's the way back.
Martin two years younger than me. He's playing the two
thousand and one Vikings on Madden a lot. I'm Spurgeon winn.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Are we ready? We're gonna win a lot of games.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
You don't forget gotten that game a little cheaper and
you know, ty Shirt Spurgeon win.
Speaker 9 (39:24):
Well, Harmon dropped dime about the card. I'm gonna say, yes.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Spurgeon Win did start one game for the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Yeah, I got too specific. Blaine Gabbert did. Blaine Gabbo
for the Browns. Used to call him the Sweeney Gabbo
excellent ty shirt.
Speaker 9 (39:52):
No Jason nice truck.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
Okay, all right, Lee.
Speaker 9 (39:57):
I'm gonna say he started against the.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Brown never for the Browns. Okay, Martin.
Speaker 8 (40:03):
I feel like the time in which Blaine Gabbert would
have started for Cleveland was like when Baker is that,
when Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Was no, I feel like no, Okay.
Speaker 9 (40:18):
Also, I feel like black Guyrad started in like eight years.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
No, Well, all you had to do was start a
game between twenty twenty twenty five. I was gonna say,
it's all you need one going all the way back
man game one time from Tim Couch on down. I'm
gonna say no. Blaine Gabbert twice played against the Browns
(40:42):
but never started the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
Gabble Blaine Gabberts so exactly, just no idea what any
of these guys are. This gave us.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
So maybe that's why you're doing okay at it, because hey, listen,
I don't have to think about this guy being a
backup for so many years. Was he with the Browns?
Did he start a game? Maybe you're in the actually
position of strengthen this.
Speaker 9 (41:08):
I just got this from the Magic Johnson game.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
You know, we're sure just following the same logic. The
vocal inflection of Jason tells me what I need to do.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Coming up next, we'll get back into a big breaking
story out of the NFL. This is Fox RU
