Hello, Welcome inside the Pete Alonzo Show with my best
friend Devin Williams, live from the tirak dot com studios.
Tirect dot com help you get there at unmatched selection, fast,
free shipping, free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tirac dot com is the way tirebaying should be. How
(00:51):
am I've the guy that can't make a pitch? Well,
you know what, you're a really good reliever. You have
two pitches, and you just threw the wrong one. That's all.
You threw the wrong one, Mike, exactly. H Dude, I'm
telling you, I'm ready for the Mets Dodgers and like that,
(01:11):
and I'm ready for the for the uh, the Mets
Tigers World Series. I'm ready. I'm ready, for both those things.
You're ready every year and it never happens. We were
so close last year, life that's your slogan. Well, okay,
I'm really close. Yeah, we're really close. Boy, it could
have been our year. That would have been the Mets.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I mean now you're you're going off and and diving
into the Tigers. Did you not hurt the city of
Detroit enough what you did to David Montgomery?
Speaker 1 (01:44):
You did to the Lions.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
They've not lost half their coaching staff and Aiden Hutchinson
got hurt.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, I'm not like. I'm like, I'm a disgraced mayor
that spent money they didn't. Oh, you're way worse on man.
We're gonna prosecute Jason Smith. Yeah, a lot of money
went missing after he left office, and now seasons of
parade you cost them. I have Jason Smith's New York
(02:14):
Mets eBay account up here, and boy, you should see
the stuff he bought. Man, When the when when the
cash coffers of the city got this influx of money
that night there was a huge spike in Metskier bought
on eBay.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
You sound like you've been reading news out of Chicago
and what the mayor might have behind door number two that.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
But look, look the big news today obviously right as
we got on the air, Pee Alonzo was back with
the Mets. Look, it makes sense, it makes sense for everybody. Right,
he couldn't get the long term deal he wanted. He's
back with the team that drafted him. The Mets win,
Pee Alonzo wins. You know, two years, fifty four million
can opt out after this year, thirty million dollars for
this year, coming off a down year. Everybody wins, The
(02:57):
world wins, the galaxy wins. Everybody wins, even now Traumata. Yeah,
even well, I mean they won the MLS Cup too.
But even like the and Traumata galaxy, which is supposed
to swallow us in like how many how many billion years,
like seven billion years supposed to swallow up the our
galaxy and the Milky Way is gonna be no more. Yeah,
I mean even they're hearing about it. Then they say't hey,
we got to travel a few more light years to
(03:17):
get there. We got to see pede A Lonzo with
and Juan Soto in the same lineup. We got to
get there, man.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
But you gotta be careful after today, I mean, it's
rumored that Galactus may beat that, you know, nature to
the punch.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, but you know what Galactus want to get there
see the Mets too, Galactus and the Silver Surfer in
a Steve Cohen box, because you know, Galactus can can
get either taller. It'd be as big as he wants
or as small as he wants, like like Galactus and
the Silver Surfer in the Mets in Steve Cohen's box
watching the Mets. I mean, that's pretty cool. Nobody's watching
the Mets, sure they are.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
It's like nobody was reading you know, Silver Surfer and
all those guys, and they were gonna go out of
the you know, shut down those lines, and all of
a sudden, we got them in movies again.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Now look, i'll give you a big before you get
into the end a trade deadline, I'll give you a big,
bold prediction right there. Oh, let's get trailer for the
Fantastic Four came out yesterday. Now I have not seen
the movie, and I'm not a Fantastic Four fan, right,
spoil it? I know, I didn't really collect There's four
of them.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
There.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
There, there's your spoiler. There's four of them. Uh, Richie
fights with CARMEI over pasta. That that's the big note. See,
I hated that in the trailer. That pissed me off. Man.
I thought that, like, it's so fun, but it's such.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Lo low obvious joke to throw into the movie.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
I mean, yeah, but nobody knows who he is. Now
it's oh, it's even Moss background. Oh it's Richie. Oh okay,
that's who the thing is.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
But everybody knew that it was a big casting because
the guy got got paid.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yah, he's kind of seen. Look I like, look, I
like my Fantastic Four made up out of Richie and
the Mandalorian and Princess Margaret and Eddie Munson.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
I think that's a pretty good fantastic I want Michael
chickliss back.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
That's pretty good. But I will tell you this bold prediction.
Like I said, I'm not I've not been a big
Fantastic four if it didn't collect the comic the movies
weren't great. But Galactus has the potential to be the
new Thanos. Like Galactus was always that Fantos was such
a minor villain in the in the MC in comic books,
going like like okay, yeah, all right, Thantos is pretty
good villain. Galactus was always the end all beal right,
(05:19):
the eater of worlds? Right, he would come and just
he eats worlds. Like that's a whole great thing. Where
do you go? How do you go up from Thanos,
who arguably is the best villain in a in an
action movie this side of Alan Rickman and Diehard. Uh,
you go with Galactus because Galactus is a phenomenal villain
and if it's done right, he can become the new Thanos,
just if they don't kill him off. Like, hey, darth
(05:40):
Ball was really cool. Now we're gonna kill him off
from the first movie. Oh all right, great, as long
as they don't kill him off, he could be that
next great villain.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Never even brought him back in Spider for him, no
terrible Spider all.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
I was sold a bill of good. That was that was.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
That was the biggest thing from fan in Menace, Right,
Remember all the marketing and merchandising and everything was, oh,
look at this guy and wait, he's got a dual
sided lightsere, this guy's gonna kick.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Ass and then he's gone, just like that.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Spider Malls, Spider Pig, Spider mam. Now look We've had
some big moad house already in the NBA. Jimmy Butler
goes to the Warriors, Chris Middleton goes to the Wizards,
and now Kyle kuz is going to get a chance
to win more than six games.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
How about that? And as you brought you a few
minutes ago, Brendon Ingram now is with the Raptors. We
have Mark Stein coming up in about fifteen minutes. He's
been on it all day. We have more. He's been
covering all this, especially the Brandon Ingram trade. But I'll
tell you what, going into tomorrow now and knowing full
well that Kevin Durant is not going to reunite with
the Warriors, which was maybe my favorite part of the day,
(06:49):
that all this talk the Warriors like yeah, yeah, hey,
we're open to a reunion with Kevin Durant. Yeah you're open. Yeah,
And then just when it got to a point where
we got to talk about a contract, Kevin Durant says, yeah,
not interested, not coming back there. It's almost like he
wanted to wait, going Yea'll let them. You know, you
know what, I'm still mad at them, I'm still mad
at Draymond. I'm no I'll let them think they have
a chance. Then when they actually call, I got to
(07:10):
say something. So I feel like they actually called today
and he said, yeah, no, not doing that again. Man, No,
I've been there, done that. Say good luck.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
So I think the other part of it is that
he does a He's got a wall of televisions and
they're all with his social media feeds, and he's highly
entertained while he SIPs some beverage and watches everything being
put out in terms of theories and how he's feeling,
and maybe he feeds into it under a burn.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Account every once in a while.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
And he just watched the world spin and everybody get
themselves in these different trade scenarios, only to just be like,
all right, I've had enough fun.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Let's get back to reality now. This is where I'd
like to see him go in the mart I mentioned
it last night, and the more I couldn't stop thinking
about it today with all the trades coming out looking
for where the best fit would be for Kevin Duramtman.
Obviously warriors were mentioned, and look the Suns. It's hard
to say, hey, we're taking calls on Kevin Durant and
then to not actually trade him, right, it wouldn't be
(08:07):
the first time, but it's really hard to do that,
and you know, you're looking for the right fit where
he could come in and be a scorer, and if
it's not one of the top teams that's gonna have
a tough to Hey, you know, we have a team
we really like and we like our guys. Kevin Durantz
can kind of be a tough fit. But where I'd
love to see him go because it would be great
for the NBA. It would be great for him. He
(08:29):
would come in as kind of the old head who's
going to show, hey that there's some talent on this team.
They've been good for the first time in forever and
getting there. He could take a big leadership role and
he could still just go out and score, right, because
that's what he does at this point. He just he
still scores twenty seven in a game. He is still
that elite guy. And it would be great for the league.
It would be great for the team, be great for
(08:51):
the city, and it would jazz up the Eastern Conference.
If the Pistons made a trade for Kevin Durant. See,
I got you to come all the way over there.
Let's go. I love to see that. I mean, look
the I mean, because really that's one of the big
below under the radar stories of this NBA season, that
the Pistons who win six games a year are actually good.
(09:14):
I mean, let's say, all right, they're not actually right,
they're five hundred, But five hundred for the Pistons is
like any other team being a seventy two win Bulls team. Right,
Oh my god, I won seventy two games.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
But a couple of years ago you were picking them
as your dark horse, and yeah, you just happened to be.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
I guess I was building a bandwagon by yourself, undercover
of darkness.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I was just two years early on the Uh, that's
what I was. It was two years.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
I really do think you were launching an attacked where
you were trying to get into some kind of public
office in Detroit because you started picking every Detroit team.
I love the Tigers, love them sleeping giants. Think about
Walking Fuss and Jack Morris's mustache and all of those
guys back in the day. Walking Fuss, Yeah, that's right,
(09:57):
stratumatic baseball.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
He was. He's a guy who had who had the
stance where his left he was a right handed batter,
and his left foot was over his right foot like
he had him cross and then he stepped right. That
was Johnny walking fust. Yeah, okay, Tick.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
One of the many guys that was a twenty five
home run eighty RBI guy for those seventy nine Tigers.
Stratamatic baseball.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Baby.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
But but you did that, you jumped on board the Lions.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
You did the Montgomery thing. Still awkward and then not.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Now you want Kevin Durant heading to the Pistons, So
there you go.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
I dig it.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Though, I think it's fun. KD with the Pistons would
be fantastic because think about how the easiest guy to
try to slide in would be someone who does one
thing really well. Right. You need a score. We got
a score, right, Sometimes we need a distributor. Go get
a point guard. But KD, as we've seen, he's been
able to slide in and still score twenty seven a game.
(10:53):
He can slide in on this Pistons team and not
disturb all the great stuff they have going on. He
can be and he can be the leader that they're
all gonna look up to. It would juice up the East.
It would juice up the playoffs. No one would want
to play Kevin Durant Detroit in the first round. I
mean getting him to go to Detroit hey and sell
them that, hey, we're on the way back. But hey, look,
the Lions are really good, the Tigers are really good. Hey,
(11:14):
why not us? Like, maybe that's the way to do it,
But man, KD with the Pistons. That's more so than
the Knicks getting what they need to get, which is
which is probably another shooter, a little bit of depth,
you know, so that the guys aren't playing forty six
minutes a night, the starters, but out I mean more
so than that. I want to see Katie go to
the Pistons. Oh, but it'd be like when he went
(11:34):
to the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Like a lot of the reason he went there was
because he wanted to tap into Silicon Valley.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
He made a lot of big investments, got involved.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
He's part of a larger conglomerate that does stuff in
sports memorabilia. Maybe maybe he can go to Detroit and
there's some business that he wants to conduct there. How
about that finalization of the city led by what's his name?
Easy Sniper? Isn't that Twitter?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Yeah? Let's go him and Kate Cunningham, two of them
running rough shot. Gonna put more muskrat Dinners on the
menu at all the different restaurants around. Sure, let's bring
back muskrat hashtag bring back muskrat hashtag? Whoa? Who was it?
Legett right?
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Xavier Legette was the guy that was talking about eating
all the different kind of roadkilling stuff. Oh yeah, yeah,
weird so well, but maybe we could get him to
really take up the banner, uh for muskrat dinners.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Maybe he could be that guy for us? And TJ
liked the captain then to' neil. A lot of muskrat
love going on the show right now. Dj Uh, if

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmons. Hold on to your hats, I said
last night after the Luca trade of the Lakers, I
get that sense what the Lakers are going to be
like was after they got Paalgasol, They're going to go
on a run right away. Well, they got another player
to come in this trade. Just moments ago, Chris Haynes
(14:50):
reporting the Lakers have traded Dalton Connect. Sorry, Lebron, you're
not gonna play with Dalt connector Dalton Connect, Cam Reddish
and Picks to the Hornets for center Mark Williams, who
has blossomed in his third year in the league. He's
a seventeen to nine guy, and that's a Hey, maybe
a D's the MVP. They listened to him. They needed
(15:12):
that center. He's not on the team anymore, but hey,
we'll go get that center. This is a phenomenal move
for the Lakers. They have rejolted their team in the
course of the last four days. You're adding Luca, You're
adding Williams. I mean, all of a sudden, this could
be a Lakers run to the top of the Western Conference.
Look at this.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
You still need a shooter in all this process. But
bringing in a big center, I mean, don't connect. Was
that was Lebron's guy?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah? Yeah, well they got it. They got a week
of those. So I think he's okay. Oh, as long
as he's okay with us. Now to break it all down,
NBA Insider extraordinary fom on Substack on Twitter at the Steinline,
everything going on, NBA wise Mark Stein, Mark, Hey, we
got this big news moments ago. What do you make
of this deal for the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I mean, what a home run? And you know, the Lakers, honestly,
to me, had already won the trade deadline by getting
Luka Doncic for what you know, everyone around the league,
even with Anthony Davis, included what everyone around the league
regards as a height. But to do this as well
(16:24):
to get a young center. Now, look, there is an
injury history that you have to factor in here, but
Mark Williams has been so impressive in the NBA. I
do not watch a lot of college basketball. I just
don't if if my Cal State Fortune Titans aren't playing,
I just I don't see much. But it was it
(16:44):
was when Mark Williams was you know, somehow we ended
up playing Duke in Coach K's last year and I
got to watch Mark Williams with my own eyes. And
even though Paulo Bankeero was the star on that team,
I was an instant Mark Williams man watching him in
that game, watching him in person, Like I said, I
mean I might see one college game a year in person.
(17:06):
So I am by no means, you know, any kind
of scout draft expert, but like, he was so impressive
the first time I saw him in person. And just
you know, you heard Rob Polinka at the Luka Doncic
press conference talking about if we're going to get a center,
we want a very mobile center. We want a lob threat,
we want someone with verticality. I mean, Mark Williams has
(17:30):
all that. So again, the Lakers won the trade headline
without his trade because they were able to get Luca
or you know, only surrendering one future first round pick.
But you see now how vital it was that the Lakers.
Lakers had two tradable first round picks going into this
into this last week, and by keeping one of them,
(17:54):
by not sending both to Dallas in the Luka Doncic trade,
they had that twenty thirty one first to give the
Charlotte to get Mark Williams. I mean, you know, people
haven't even been talking about Mark Williams as a potential
trade target. You know, obviously Nick Richard Charlotte traded him
to Phoenix last month. We've been talking about all manner
(18:16):
of big men not named Mark Williams that were expected
to be in play at this deadline. Dick Lavuchavich in Chicago, Yaka,
pertl Robert Williams, on and on and on. You didn't
hear any Mark Williams chatter. So for the Lakers, I mean,
this has been an absolute circus of a deadline, NonStop action.
(18:38):
But look, the surprises keep coming. We're down to you know,
inside fifteen hours now, but the surprises, you know, twenty
thirty minutes before the Mark Williams deal Toronto got a
deal for brandon Ingram done. Like it's it's just amazing
that we've had so much talk about these luxury tax
aprons and how hard it is for teams to make trade,
(19:01):
and it is, it really is hard. But teams have
been so motivated to get business done. And you know,
this is this is going to be as memorable, as
wild and as active a deadline as I've ever recovered.
And this is year thirty two.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
For me, what's the what's the ceiling now for this
Laker team? You know, Luca's got to get in, they
got to get used to these new players here. What's
the ceiling for the Lakers now this year?
Speaker 4 (19:26):
I mean, I still, you know, we have to see
it all come together. I mean, obviously Lebron and Luca
haven't played a second yet. I mean at the top
of the West, you still look Oklahoma City has been
clear cut.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Top of the West.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
After that, I thought Denver had kind of fixed itself,
but they've you know, they've had some moments this season,
multiple moments really where they've looked vulnerable. There's been so
much luck in the West really, you know, Houston and
Memphis have been great surprises, but they don't have tons
of So, look, is there a pathway for the Lakers
(20:03):
to go on a playoff run? You know what I
would my instinct says no. But I mean they've already
pulled off two impossible trades that a week ago nobody
would have thought either of these moves would have happened. So,
you know, can they gel? Can they go on a
run under a first year coach? I mean, look, I
(20:26):
can tell you if Luka Doncic is going to be
so motivated. I mean, he's already been salivating to get
back because of this. This cap injury is the most serious.
You know, it's the most serious injury of his pro career,
and he's been so eager to get back, and you know,
(20:48):
now he's going to come back, you know, really looking
to shove it down the Mavericks throats. To be totally
honest with you, So, I mean the Lakers have a
very motivated new faith of the franchise. They're bringing in Williams.
I mean, again, I think Oklahoma City is going to
remain the prohibitive favorite to win the West. But this
(21:11):
is on one hand, the conference got a lot tougher
when you know San Antonio now has Fox, he saw
the Lakers, when he saw the Warriors making their big
swing today to get Jimmy Butler. I mean, when Jimmy
Butler tweeted about the Wild Wild yesterday, he wasn't joking.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
It's the curiosity mark with Jimmy Butler. Everybody was convinced
or a lot of reporting was all right. Pat Riley's
got his you know, he's drawn his line into saying
nothing's gonna happen, and instead Butler gets out and gets
his two year extension. What does that do for Steph Curry,
Draymond Green and company trying to claw back into the
(21:48):
end of the West.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
I gotta tell you, I really liked the gamble. I
remain a Jimmy Butler admirer. I know that the last
month plus has been as wild a standoff with a
franchise as we've seen in a long, long, long time.
You don't see anyone going after pat Riley, going head
(22:13):
to head with pat Riley like we've seen Jimmy Butler do.
But you know what, Jimmy Butler got what he wanted
in the end, He got an extension tonight. On top
of the trade to a contender. And look, we've seen
the Warriors really going back to a year ago, to
last year's trade dead life. If you remember, they were
(22:34):
trying to convince the Lakers to engage in Lebron James
trade talks and Rich Paul shut those down. Rich Paul
did not want, you know, even to you know, to
that never really went anywhere with the notion of Lebron
getting traded from the Lakers to the Warriors. But Golden
State tried, and then we saw at the draft they
(22:55):
went after Paul George, they went after Lowry market in
after Paul George. They were time. They were trying to
get both of those guys like they have been trying
and trying to and look, they were far down the
line with Kevin Durant. They really made a run at it.
But Kevin Durant has been sending these signals through back channels.
He did not want to go back to Golden State.
(23:16):
He did not want to go there again. And the
Warriors finally saying, you know what trading I mean, they
could have gone through that, they could have gone ahead
and done it anyway, but they basically said trading for
an unhappy Kevin Durant probably not the best move. They
pivoted to Jimmy Butler and they got it done, and okay,
they had to give up Wiggins, and you know it's
(23:42):
you know, well, I'm sure there will be skeptics, but
like I said, I think Jimmy Butler remains a huge
difference maker. He's a proven difference maker in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
And you know, I've seen.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Him and Draymond together on an Olympic team in Rio,
and I think I think Stephen Curry is really going
to like playing with him, and he's going to bring
an edge to them and two way play to them
that they don't they haven't had. And also, much like
Luka Dancic, I think he's going to go in there
with a lot of team. You know, he knows that
(24:22):
he received heaps and heaps of criticism for the way
he's handled things in Miami and the way he tried
to force his way out of there. I mean, we've
we haven't. I'm not sure we've seen a champaign to
get traded quite like it. But again, he got a
deal in the end. It wasn't the Phoenix.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
No.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
We've heard over and over and over that Phoenix is
where he wanted to go because that was the place
most where he was most likely the land and extensions.
But he got an extension tonight, do in addition to
a trade.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
So you know, I.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
Like seeing the warriors being I mean, I'm, I'm it's
kind of my way. I'm usually gonna when you went.
When a team is bold, more often than not, you're
gonna win me over. And I like I like the
I like the bold attempt here, even though there will
surely be skeptics.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Mark Stein with us, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from
the tirec dot Com studios. All right, so we mentioned
Kevin Durant. He's a huge name. We've heard about the
last couple of days not happening with Golden State. What
happens mark the next fifteen hours when it comes to
Kevin Durant.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
I really don't think we'll see him go. Now he's
been telling the Sons that he doesn't want them to
trade him, and now that all of these moves, I mean,
just think about I tweeted this earlier tonight. Think about
everything that has happened since twelve twelve am Eastern Time
(25:51):
on Sunday morning and think of all the all the
guys who've been traded, and so I'm gonna just call
I'm gonna call this tweet up because I don't want
to make sure that I don't forget anybody. Because that
the tweet I had it listed twelve to twelve a
m on Sunday, Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Kusma, Chris Middleton,
(26:15):
the Aaron Fox, Zac Wilbean, Anthony Davis, and Luca all
on new teams. And since then, Brandon Ingram gets traded
as well. Now the Lakers do this deal. It's just
it's it's it's been, it's been something.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Man Hey, Mark Joel Embiid got back on the court
and had a triple doubles.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
He want to get traded now?
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Now, I mean, honestly, that's you know what I mean,
that's a huge thing for Philly to see him. I mean,
he admits fifteen straight games to look that good after
such a long absence, Because you know, one of the
big questions actually going into this deadline was w Philly
just starts to strip down and start trading veterans because
(27:05):
you know, they're they're so far. You know, they've struggled
so badly that maybe they should try to tank. But
the thing is their pick is only top six protected.
There's too many bad teams below them. They really can't
take that route, and so they basically realized, we're just
going to have to do the best we can get
as high up the standings ladder as we can and
make a playoff run. And for Mbat to have a
(27:28):
game like that, I'm sure gives them a little bit
of faith that man, maybe he's you know, okay, he's
had this fifteen game essence, but maybe maybe there's a
maybe there is a bounce back there. That's really the
only option that this Philly team has. And you know,
they've made some small group moves around the edges, and
that's really to enable him to resign. Gershan Yabucelli, who
(27:51):
is just he was an Olympic darling. We all remember
that dunk over Lebron But he has been so good
for the Sixers on a two million dollars minimum contract,
and now Philly's gonna be able to keep him in
the off season. But I think, you, guys, I think
a ratby what left like when I was reading that,
I mean, we've mostly we've seen so much. Yeah, there
(28:13):
will still be moves over the next fourteen hours. I
can promise you there will still be a handful of trade.
But I don't think Durant's on his way. And you know,
I'm hesitant to go any farther because they've just been
surprise after surprise. I think we have seen. I think
we have seen the bulk of the fireworks. But I mean,
(28:37):
is anybody gonna be surprised if there's more?
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Not?
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Not this February.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
He's on Twitter at the Stile football game this weekend.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
They may cancel the NBA may make Hey Yiannis for
Wemby on Sunday, and then they'll cancel the game. All
the latest on the NBA trade deadline check out Mark
on Twitter at the steinline that is at the sign
line on substack as well. Mark has always appreciate the time.
Thanks so much. We'll talk to you soon, buddy, have fun,
(29:08):
good great stuff. Mark. Thanks, Here goes Mark side now
kds not now, Katie's not gonna get moved all of
this and Kevin Duranzka, Man, I'm still in Phoenix still.
I was the guy that was supposed to get traded
like six times now I'm still here. Stop telling you, though.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
I think he secretly was behind the scenes, just getting
ever stirring the drink, like I asked about him beeid.
We didn't even get to Zion, who had twenty eight tonight, Like,
I mean, there's all these guys like they're suddenly back
on the court right before the deadline.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
He no, everybody, we didn't.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Even get to the Bulls signing Lonzo.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Hey, hey, hey you shutty. Yeah, we got you know,
we actually we actually have to talk about that a
little bit coming up. I mean a little bit, the
tiny bit we had time, just a bit, a little bit,

but yet she's here every night with us.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
I was like, Is he gonna say that I fight
with people on social media?
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (30:25):
I was like, where's he going with this?
Speaker 6 (30:26):
You could have gotten many different ways, but you went
with that one.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
I'm not mad about it.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
The trade deadline guys tomorrow, as you've been talking about Thursday,
three Eastern in the NBA, try to catch you up
on what has happened today. The latest is that the
Lakers are trading Dalton connect Cam Reddish, a twenty thirty
one unprotected first round pick and a twenty thirty pickswap
to the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams. The Pelicans
(30:54):
have traded Brandon Ingram to the Raptors for Bruce Brown,
junior Kelly Allnik, one first round pick and one second rounder,
but the big one of the day Jimmy Butler. Jimmy
Butler headed to the Golden State Warriors in a multi
team trade, Andrew Wiggins, PJ Tucker, Kyle Anderson headed to Miami,
Dennis Shreuder heading to the Utah Jazz. Earlier today, the
(31:16):
Bucks traded Chris Middleton to the Wizards for Kyle Kuzma.
The Kings acquired big man Jonas Valanciunas from Washington, and
the Pelicans traded center Daniel Tice to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
What happened in the NBA all the games have wrapped up.
The Thunder crushed the Suns one forty to one oh nine.
Shay Gilgess Alexander fifty points.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
In the win.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
The Magic took down the Kings one thirty to one eleven,
while the Nuggets beat the Pelicans one forty four to
one nineteen. Michael Porter Junior thirty nine points and twelve rebounds.
Jordan Clarkson had thirty one points as the Jazz held
on to beat The Warriors won thirty one to one
twenty eight, and Anthony Edwards dropped forty nine points as
the Timberwolves beat the Bulls one twenty seven to one
(32:01):
oh eight. In men's college hoops, one upset, rut Curs
took down number twenty three Illinois eighty two to seventy three.
In women's college hoops, u CLA still undefeated.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Guys.
Speaker 6 (32:12):
They played Ohio State. It got closed, but UCLA is
still undefeated in women's college hoops and in baseball. Yes,
Pete Alonso isn't going anywhere in the Mets agreed on
a two year, fifty four million dollar deal. It includes
a ten million dollars signing bonus and an opt out
after the first season.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Whoop do you do back to you?
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Thank you very much. Yes, we appreciate it, yesz Yeah.
Look of all the moves today, Mike in the NBA
all I mean, look, Pete Alonzo going back to the Mets.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
That's number one thing, Number one. I mean, it was
seemed like an afterthought for Monci.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Number one. Yeah. Well, you know, Manci just doing that
because she's like, well, you know what, I would have
put it in the beginning if I knew Jason was
going to say it was the Kevin Durant to Fox
Sports Radio. So I think next time she'll that'll lead
with it next time. I'm pretty she knows baseball. Would
you stop Frost? But you still still want We wouldn't
want Peter A. Lonzo if you could get him, you
would still want him. Sorry, man, I'll see you again
(33:06):
in the NLCS when all the money we spent this
year is actually going to be on the field and
not on other teams. We'll see you again in the NLCS.
Will be fine, be great?
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Wow, I mean most of theirs deferred, so they're not
paying it out. It's just no, it's just earning interest
somewhere else. So when it comes time to pay and
it's like, ah, we made that in our investments.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Well that's the all thing is, Like, you know, last
year was all We'll look at the teams, at the
final four teams in baseball, the three of them have
the biggest they spent the most money. And I'm like, yeah,
but like the third of the Mets money or for
players they traded last year that they're still paying at
least now the money, the money's on the field, right
the Jonah Hill Billy likes to keep the money on
the field. Steve Cohen now likes to keep the money
(33:47):
on the field. That that's what we're gonna have.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Still, just need that final third of the league to
actually participate in free agency.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah, well no, it's all right. You just stay home
if you can, if you can't, if you can't run
with the big dogs, stay on the porch. It's time
to relegate them all. Coming up next, we have the
latest on the biggest latest trade in the NBA. Somebody
has to get their flowers for what they were able
to do in an impossible situation. It's coming up next
(34:14):
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tyrach dot Com studios
where the trades just keep on coming. Coming up in
about fifteen minutes, will break down the biggest of the
big moves today, but something we got about twenty five
minutes ago. And there's someone that just has to get
(34:49):
their flowers. Because when you can do the impossible, yeah,
it's time to understand how legit you are. Okay, Jason,
I'm listening the Laker. Justin Frossberg is the best NFL
radio game day producer in the world. I have him
rated number one. He's the Jim Harbaugh of Radio Phil.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
It's a big rankings week, so why not it is
a week, sure, sure a week and rankings week.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
I mean, there's a lot going on on the heels
of getting Luka doncig for Anthony Davis. Lucas said in
conversation with Rob Polenka, Hey, really, you know what do
you think of the roster, and he said, you know,
I really would love and his game works well with
a lob type center, someone who's athletic that can go
up and down the floor, you know, kind of echoing
Anthony Davis who said, but we need a center. Boy.
(35:36):
AD's like, oh, man, come on, you didn't need to
trade me. If I could be there and move to
the flour and Mark Williams could be the center, it'd
be great. But it's AD's got a future as a PM.
It's Anthony Davis's last gift to the Lakers. Here. I
got you that center that was gonna be so great
for you. But the Lakers pull off a trade Dalton
connect Cam Reddish in a couple of picks in exchange
(35:59):
for Mark Williams from the Hornets. And this is where
Rob Polenka like, we make fun of Rob Polenka because
you know how he's dressed and the Rob Low stuff
and all this everything, But this is a guy that
really should get his flowers because this is the third
time in the last fourish years where he's been dealt
an impossible hand. An impossible hand because the Lakers don't
(36:23):
have a lot of draft picks, which are valuable in
trades only. Right, everybody overvalues first round picks as we
can get to in the NBA, they're trade now. They
are things you add to trades, right, And they didn't
have a lot, and so how are they going to
make these trades? Right? But this is the third time
because you go back to the Anthony Davis trade where
the Pelicans are like, we know he wants to go there,
(36:45):
and we are going to get every drop of blood
from you that we can. And still Rob Polinka made
that trade and the Lakers won the title. Now in
the last week twice, how are you going to improve
the team? There's no you don't have any money to spend.
It's going to be impossible. Ron is not taking less.
What are you going to do? You can't add to
this team. You're stuck, right, that's what we throw. The
Lakers are stuck. The Lakers are stuck. And then he
(37:07):
pulls off an impossible deal, getting Luka Doncic in exchange
for Anthony Davis. WHOA that would have been enough. But
here using the one pick the Lakers have left because
I don't think they have another draft pick now until
twenty forty to make this Mark Williams trade happen and
bring in a young athletic center who in his third year.
Albeit he dad's had some injury issues the first couple
(37:29):
of years, but he's twenty three years old. He is
a legit sixteen to ten guy. You're not getting anything
better than him, and it's exactly what Luca wants and
these guys can grow together, right, Luca's twenty five, twenty six,
Mark Williams is twenty three. Suddenly the Lakers have set
themselves up for now, for the future and Rob Polinka
(37:49):
in a situation in which it's im you would say,
it's impot My hands are tied. What do you want
me to do? Right? What do you really want me
to do? The only thing I think you do differently
go back in time is tell Ad and Lebron. Yeah no,
not gonna trade for Russell Westbrook. But outside of that,
these three incredibly large moves when the deck is stacked
so much against him, and still he comes out and
(38:10):
makes a big trade for it. Man, I'll tell you
you got to give Polinka his flowers after this. It
has been It has been an incredible week for him,
an incredible week for the Lakers. Who go from we're
spinning our wheels on Saturday night. But you know, tip
off of the nixt game, it was we're spinning our wheels.
Ad is hurt. What are we gonna do? We're just
gonna get to the playoffs. We're gonna be old. And
maybe maybe we went around, maybe not. And in four
(38:33):
days they go from spinning their wheels to being a
team that's gonna contend for the title as soon as
this year. You have a lot of time for Luca
and Williams to get involved in the offense. And look,
it never really takes anybody very long. With Lebron James.
You understand the kind of game he wants to play,
the kind of game he's gonna play. You know, he'll
be able to defer to Luca, He'll be able to
(38:53):
take over when he needs to. He's done that with
a D. This is gonna be a Laker team that
hits the ground running right away. And if I thought
yesterday I told you last night, wouldn't surprise me the
Lakers starts scoring one hundred and thirty a game. Maybe
I was a little lower that Mike. Maybe it's gonna
bebout one thirty five one forty a game now with
the athletic center running up and down the floor, which
is exactly what the Lakers need. I just feel bad
(39:14):
for Ad that, you know, hey, he had the idea
and they did it. Maybybe they'll give him a ring,
maybe the Lakers when they give Ada ring because it
was his idea to go get the center. Well, he
was part of the squad for a while, so I
mean they can fight about that and then fight up
with shares and whatever else.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
But Dan Woiki, our buddy La Times chimes in the
Lakers are confident that the back issues are healed quote
and that they're getting one of the game's top young
centers who fit the doncic archetype, like you block a game,
plays above the rim, seven feet tall.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
All I mean he can't teach. Hey, we always talked
about that.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
You already got a guy in Jackson Hayes who we've
seen in snippets. You know, when he get out and
the break he can get after it as well. Would
still love a shooter, so I'd love to see what
else another rabbit.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
He can pull out of his hat. I don't know.
One time you got a shooter. Yeah, I think Luca
can shoot pretty well. I don't know. I'm just I'm
just guessing, But I think Luca can both guys that
like to that's all and all side like hot amor shots,
tons of shots. I think the Yeah, yeah, I would
(40:24):
like the things to be perfect too, and hey, let's
go out and get you honest, let's go get Wemby.
But I think this Lakers team, now it's gonna be
pick your poison. I think they have they got mockery. Yeah,
I think they can think. I think they can score.
Remember the days where the Lakers had no he Remember
the days the Lakers stunk? Yeah, that was that was
last Saturday.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Think they have one guy now that's under six seven
that was at last Saturday.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Beat the Knicks last Saturday. Nice before they played that
game is so irrelevant now it doesn't matter. Dude, Braunant
got a stand and go at the garden something Jalen
Bronson's yet to get. Oh, would you just stop you
just doubt you sound silly. I'll see you in the finals,
frost per look, Mets and the Dodgers. I'll see in
the NLCS Lakers mix. I'll see in the NBA Finals.
Ready to go you're a comedian. Yeah, no, I'm ready
(41:10):
to go. Wait till the round Mavericks flip ad to
the Knicks now will be great, be awesome. Exit. How
about a Fresca exit swollen dome? Jason Smith, Mike harton
coming up next, we get into the best of today
when it comes to NBA moves before the deadline. Keep
it here, Fox,
