popping in at least once a week.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
He's on call. He is doctor Rich.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
There's no question about it.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
And honestly, the doctor doesn't need sleep when the people
need the doctor.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
No, that's it.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
I mean, not like you need to be up in
early for a show that you do in San Diego
each morning.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
No, no, no, what is that?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Six to nine am.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
That's that's correct.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, there you go six to nine am, so he'll
get a nap later. But yeah, the prescription well more coffee.

Tirerac dot com The way tire buying should be. Watching

(01:35):
some Dodgers and Giants the end of you know, your
Summer League champions crowned all of that fun stuff. Readying
for the Olympics opening ceremony at the end of the week,
as Steve had laid out in his update a little
bit earlier with I'm out of boat and we'll see
how many guys start singing stuff from step Brothers and
whatever as they roll through. But so much more to come.

(01:58):
But it's the beginning of training camp. We talked about
it a little bit last hour, the anxiousness, the excitement
of trying to put all those pieces together. I've already
done a couple of fantasy drafts rich because I'm a nerd,
and some of them go into what are still published.
You know those magazines that you find at a Barnes
and Noble or whatever. But I did pick up by

(02:18):
Phil steelebook for this year. Oh good, a college preview
because I always have to buy a new magnifying glass
because I can't find the one from last year. Because
if you really want to dissect all of the verbiage
and the data that he puts on the team pages,
there's no way you're doing that with the naked eye
unless you're Ted Williams.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Oh yeah, yeah, there's no question about it.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
He's He's incredible, the deepest of dives you'll find and
really maybe only seconded by teams and scores of people,
which I'm sure he has help. But it really is
kind of the college football bible. It's fun, it's I
don't know, the smell of a magazine. Also, especially when

(02:59):
you crack a thicker boy like one of these these
preseason previews. It does it does kind of smell like
college football is just around the corner, doesn't it.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Oh it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
By the way, I.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Had a ticker up at least for San Diego State
down here in San Diego, less than forty days away.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
We were at thirty nine this morning, thirty nine.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Days away from kickoff against an m commerce looking forward
to that.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
I gotta get down there to see a game this year.
I've been down there for soccer games and certainly for concerts.
But you know, I gotta come see you, watch you work,
and heckle you while you're in the booth.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Yeah, yeah, I know, join me in the booth. I
mean for wow, yeah, buddy, Yeah yeah, free seats at all.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Oh I love that. Well, well, we'll take you up
on that. I spent a lot of time driving down
to Ocean Side and beyond for soccer games.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I might as want to come down for a football game.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah, just finish the travels.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yeah, and then you know, I mean, I TJ's just
another half hour drive.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
How about that.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Now that's what you call a postgame celebration. We win,
doesn't matter, DJ, here we go.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
We're all winners.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
We all win that night, There's no question about it.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Now.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
One of the things is we were doing.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
In the the pre show ceremony's kind of talking about
talking through some things, and you know, there's a lot
of big stories hanging out there. We'll get to Jordan
Love coming about fifteen minutes from now. A little of
the Lamar Jackson stuff, Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
So much there.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
But one of the things kind of talking about, you know,
teams that you like them on the surface, and you're like,
but there's just one tweak that I need to make here,
one tweak I need to make.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
There last hour, we talked about.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Interesting training camps, and one of the teams you threw
up in terms of a hey, I've got to fix
is the aforementioned Los Angeles Chargers.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I think I know where you're going, but why don't
you take me down that path?

Speaker 5 (04:56):
You need to find a receiver. I mean, you absolutely
need to find a receive. Look, there's two tweaks that
I would make. One I'm hoping that they make, and
I'm hoping it's obvious for the Chargers because it's a
Jim Harbaugh team.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
The run game is going to be the heart and soul.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
I'll get back to that one.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
But first and foremost, could we get somebody for Justin
Herbert to throw the football to? Does it have to
be a Brandon Ayuk? I don't think it has to be.
I don't know if you want to leverage and mortgage
your future for it to be. I don't even know
if you have the cap space for it to be.
But during training camp at some point, I think you're

(05:38):
gonna have to find another weapon for Justin Herbert. The
other thing, the more offensive strategy thought process for the Chargers.
If you want to make a quick fix, if you
want to get Justin Herbert comfortable playing quarterback in this league, again.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
You need to schedule more runs.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Don't be afraid to use your quarterback the way he's
supposed to be used. What was the problem with the
Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen that got Ken Dorsey fired.
It was the fact that they were fearing using Josh
Allen as the weapon he is. He needs to be
a part of the run game for him to feel comfortable,
because that's part of his game. So I think the

(06:16):
Chargers those are the two major tweaks, and they're small tweaks,
but they're kind of the Adding a receiver would be major,
depending on which receiver it is. But you need to
get him help and you need to get him comfortable
in this offense.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yeah, you got Palmer and Johnston, who was a disappointment
near one for sure. No j Hark comes over once
celebrated if nothing else, because of that baby Shark, that
damn song that you can't get out of your head.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
But we're gonna leave it there.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
McConkey comes in and Brandan Rice, Jerry Rice's kid into that.
But when you've got Slater and then you go and
you draft Joe Walt where he did, you're gonna build
it in the Jim Harbaugh model right where the run
game is going to be key. And my big question
is how do I assure myself that Dobbins and Edwards
stay healthy? Yeah, because I I I'm gonna need to know, Hey,

(07:07):
Isaiah Spiller, we're gonna probably need to depend on him
for a bunch of carries at different points in the
season as well. Right, So so that's a position in
a hard ball offense that needs to be huge. But
justin Herberts, a guy with great anticipation, right, great numbers.
You paid him his money, all of that, and now
when you look at what you're setting up, you know

(07:30):
some are nervous about Wait, you paid him all that
money and now you're not gonna let him be. I'm like,
if nothing else, shouldn't the run game open him up?
If you have a wide receiver that can get get
open and break containment. And that's where the big question is.
I like Palmer, but he's not a one. Johnston's a
guy that couldn't be to be better, right, he can't

(07:51):
be any worse.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
No, he should have been one. I mean that was
the that was the goal, that was the thought, right, Yeah, yeah,
we'll see I hope. And look, that's the other thing.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
It's like, it feels like when you're critical about a player,
it feels like you're not rooting for them, and that's
not the case.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
I don't have a dog in the fight. I want.
I want to see Quintin Johnson be as good as
he was at TCU. He hasn't been. And that's just reality.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
That's just facts and stats that are backing up that statement.
But it's not because anybody here is rooting against the guy.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
It just is what it is. Playing with one of.

Speaker 5 (08:24):
The best quarterbacks in the league who literally post it
noted the ball to his chest sometimes and he would
let it go through his fingers and we did not
see that with the horn Frogs.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Yeah, so it's a curious time. No more Keenan Allen,
no more.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Mike Williams mainstays, and I don't know what our guys
Frostburg and de Seger are going to do. They had
a whole shell full of stats for Keenan Allen that
are now rendered obsolete except to the annals of history.
All right, next team that you had on your list,
the Atlanta Falcons. Good run game, good offensive line, and
Captain Kirk comes a calling.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
That's right, don't make this a QB controversy. Don't make
this a competition. This is Kirk's team. I would say,
I would caution any coach if you have two starting quarterbacks,
you don't have a starting quarterback. So don't let Pennix
Junior see any daylight this year. Don't let him get
to thinking that he has a chance to start this

(09:18):
year that, like you just mentioned, this is Captain Kirk's team.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
You are first lieutenant. You are first lieutenant.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
You're gonna be manning computers, You're gonna be working headsets
and holding clipboards once you get used to that role,
because it's gonna be your role for at least the
next two years, or unless there's an injury situation, which
obviously they're hopeful not. But this is also another one
of those quarterbacks who's aging and coming off.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Of an achilles tear. So we'll see.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
But yeah, this is Kirk's team. My number one tweak.
You know, going into the offseason, it seemed like the
Falcons were doing everything right and then the draft hit
and it was like, what I mean, I guess not
hiring Belichick could be chalked up as another mistake. Maybe
we'll say it works out, you know, so so I
would say the biggest mistake you could make moving forward though,

(10:09):
is making this a competition.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
It should not be.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
But it's funny owing to the uh inside the NBA
thing that we were talking about right the NBA on
TNT and and Barkley and Shaquille O'Neil.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
I'm all for Bill Belichick. He's must must see viewing.
For me.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
I was the nerd that was trying to find video
from his chalk talk after games in New England. Yeah,
when he starts, you know, he'd stand before the little
podium and go through plays and map it out and
talk to me like I'm a five year old. So
I'm there for that.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
All right. Third team on your list was the Bears.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
The be Be Bears.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Here's what you do they probably should have done this
work already, but if they haven't, they need to do it.
You need to, like almost as if you are a
forensic investigator.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Look at you.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
You need to go back and piece together the crime scene.
Except let's not call it a crime scene. Let's call
call it what it was. It was a masterclass. Caleb
Williams was the best college football player two years ago.
There were distant seconds I would say it felt like
a shoeing for the Heisman he ended up winning it.

(11:18):
Go back and look at that season and replicate almost
play for play what they did if you can.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Now I don't.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
I'm not saying you need to oversimplify your offense to
completely cater to him. But I would say the teams
that have had the best success classically with their quarterbacks,
their young quarterbacks, are the ones who kept it simple.
They didn't overinundate them with a lot of verbiage that
they weren't necessarily going to need. There are certain quarterbacks

(11:46):
who have a higher threshold, who are able to keep
more in their.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Head all at once, keep all the plate spinning.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
But you got to remember this period from the finish
of your college football season through the training for the combine,
through the interview processes that come before the combine and afterwards,
through the contracts that are being hammered out during the
draft process, through Draft Day, through meeting all your new teammates,
OTA's mini camps, headlong into the preseason. You're playing in

(12:13):
the Hall of Fame Game, then you have three more
preseason games, then you hurtle into the season.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
I mean, this is an exhausting.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
Year for a rookie, let alone a rookie quarterback where
the weight of the world is on your shoulder as
the first overall draft pick. So make him feel at home.
This is Trojan circa twenty twenty two. You need to
go back through what USC did well with Caleb Williams
and try to replicate it best you can with the
Chicago Bears. I'm not saying every play, but I'm saying

(12:42):
a lot of them, and talk to him about.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
What he likes, because if you do that, if you
cater to.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Caleb a little bit, then you can start integrating more
of what you like to do against certain defenses.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
And you're gonna meet somewhere in the middle.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
But don't just try to make the round peg fit
in the square, because it will not do anybody any favors.
That's my one giant piece of advice to help fix
the Bears.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Now, whenever the Bears come up in conversation, the long
standing tradition on this show is I hold up a
sign that says, where's Alan Williams, the former defensive coordinator
who was unceremoniously dumped amid a lot of rumor and conjecture.
Before Eber Flush took over, they brought in Montez Sweat, etc.
All right, really quick, Rich last in a minute or

(13:28):
lest other than just saying, hey, Aaron Rodgers the New
York Football Jets was the last squad on your short
list of prescription.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Yeah, I would say, let let Aaron do the talking.
I mean, Robert Salad did himself no favors, putting his
foot in his mouth talking about how you know Aaron
had this unexcused absence from you know, mandatory mini camp.
I don't know why you don't protect your quarterback better

(13:58):
than that. I think it was sale. I think even
if even if it's not true, you tell the white
lie to the general public and maybe to the locker
room too, and say, yeah, Aaron had an excuse this
is something we all saw coming and we totally knew it.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
We didn't want this to be a big team wide discussion.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
We didn't want this to get leaked to the press,
and that's the reason why we kept it close to
the vest. But this is something we all knew was coming,
and thank you for playing. We'll see all at the
start of training camp, because what has happened is Aaron
Rodgers has already come out and started talking about the
way that was messaged was clunky and clumsy, and it
didn't make them all that happy. And the only reason

(14:36):
why Robertsala and company have job still is because Aaron
says so, because that entire organization is doing whatever he
says still. And I don't know if that's for good
or bad, but he's really their only hope to have success.
We saw what it looked like with you know, Zach
Wilson and company not good. So I would say, let
Aaron cook and let him do the talking and take

(14:59):
this magic carpet right as far as it goes.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Who knows where you land?

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Yeah, with the silver and his beard going full Obi
wan kenobi, you're our oldly hope.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
We'll talk about him and Jordan Love.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Yeah, yeah, it all ties back. They're inextricably linked. He's
Rich Hornberger in for Jason Smith. I'm Mike Harmon and
we'll continue with talk of those two quarterbacks next here
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (15:31):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 7 (15:40):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
Over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah, you blubber, list lame and me.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 7 (15:58):
Well, it's a Caveno and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships and if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time. It will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 6 (16:12):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised with Cabino
and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever
you get your podcasts.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Hey, welcome back into the tirerac dot Com. Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Mike Carmen, Rich Wrenberger with you No Smith
tonight under the weather, trying to get his voice back.
Not quite sure what ails him. Maybe someone put a
spell on him, We're not quite sure. Ed, how about
a fresca to send him your well witches or any
snide comments about the Mets or Jets, because we're gonna

(16:57):
talk about Aaron Rodgers here now, Rich Hornberger because he's
starting to make the rounds and say, hey, you just
don't understand me. Yeah, you don't understand what I'm all
about and he went on and he's hanging out with
Big Cat in the barstool area and talking about his
Egyptian trip and how the world has changed, and how

(17:20):
we're using terms maybe improperly related to camps.

Speaker 8 (17:25):
The thing that I think people don't understand is that
when I was in the NFC North and playing for
that team years ago, there used to be a real
thing called mini camp where it was.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
You had one of them.

Speaker 8 (17:40):
Usually sometimes it's right up for the draft, but either way,
it was five practices and three days Friday, Satday, Sunday.
So two practices on Friday, two on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
One on Sunday.

Speaker 8 (17:48):
And now it's not mini camp. They can arbitrarily put
a tag on whatever week of Otay's they want. Yeah,
this is the mini camp week, which makes it somehow
more mandatory than the other weeks. But it was an
OTA schedule. That's how it's You know how words can
be a little deceiving From time to time. You can
make a story of the fact that I missed a

(18:09):
mini camp when it was really two OTA days, right
interest I came to the first ten.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Were those the two OT eight days that they determined
most essential to the process. And the calendar would seem
from Robert Salad putting his foot in his mouth.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Uh, yeah, that they were.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
And I love how you know, no matter what it's like, well,
I mean, what does mandatory mean?

Speaker 3 (18:32):
What is a mini camp? And the whole thing?

Speaker 4 (18:35):
The other place it's It's like when folks leave a
job and they won't say the name of the company
or brand that they used to work for. I worked
for Yahoo, I worked for Fox Sports dot Com. I
work here now at Fox Sports Radio. Is that so hard?

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Like, we know where you worked, So going through that.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
Process and just say, you know the other place in
the NFC North Come on, stop talking at us like
we're a bunch of children.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
I think different people motivate themselves differently, and to be
as great as Aaron Rodgers has been for as long
as Aaron Rodgers has been great, I think that this
is part of it, whatever it is that has fueled
a Hall of Fame career. That soundclip kind of summarizes

(19:25):
how he views himself, how he views the world. I
think he has to keep this very adversarial slant in
his mind, it's me against the world, in order for
him to perform.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Jordan was like that. Tom Brady was like that.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
I think they both were quieter in front of a
microphone and in front of the cameras when they were
on so you didn't hear as much of that stuff
during their careers as you will.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
I'm certain after his career is over.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
With Tom Brady we already have heard some of that,
and certainly with Jordan. But there's there's real blood boiling
hatred for the opponent that that is buried deep inside
of these great athletes. And sometimes you've run out of opponents,
you know, so instead of tilting at windmills, you find

(20:18):
you find maybe made.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Up ones in your brain. And and I think that's
what kind of Aaron Rodgers is doing. I think I think.

Speaker 5 (20:26):
He's played so long that the and the expectations may
still be very high, but he's actually run out of
things to compete again, so he has to create them
for himself. He has to create little obstacles for himself
to keep it fun, to keep it interesting.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
So I guess this is one of those where you
just take shots, I think, naming the former.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Team and then yeah, getting getting agitated by your current team.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
In terms of semantics of what's mandatory well, I do.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
I think it's it's just hilarious.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
And I get it.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
You know, you got to motivate yourself how you will.
I can't.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
I can't argue with process when the results are there.
It just still kind of comical, though.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
And it is a little weird. Look, it's let's call
it what it is. It's a little crazy. It's a
little weird. And I don't think that term is too
generalizing to use or or derogatory to say something's.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
A little crazy. It is. It's a skew.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
It's not normal. It's off kilter. It's something that's but
you know what, I know how it feels.

Speaker 9 (21:34):
You have to be a little crazy to play the
sport of football.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
You got to be a little nuts. You know, you're
subjecting yourself to danger on a play and playoff basis.
You know, for an offensive linem in the position I played,
you were literally in hand to hand combat for.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Three banging heads against each other seventy plays a game.

Speaker 5 (21:51):
Yeah, I mean, it's nuts. It doesn't make any sense.
You actually have to hot wire your brain. This is
one of the earliest lessons I learned in football. I
had a middle coach swapped me in the helmet to
help me stop blinking when contact was made with my helmet.
He realized I was flinching when I was hitting somebody.
He was like, yeah, you're turning away from contact. I

(22:13):
was like, yeah, I don't even realize I'm doing it.
He was like, you have to keep your eyes open
when you hit something, and I'm like, how do you
even do that? And he would legitimately work on this
with me by hitting me in the head with my
helmet on it.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Wull they could do that here.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
In twenty twenty four, I had a guy that used to,
you know, wrap the whistle around his fist and he
would swing it wildly and violently at our helmets.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
See, dude, I think if things are done with love
and with a goal in mind, I think players are
receptive to it. They realized that there's something to be
learned here. As stupid as it sounds, and I promise
you it sounds stupid. I know how it sounds to
have a I don't know at the time. A six
year old man swatting his closed fist into my face

(23:00):
masks to teach me how to not close my eyes
on contact.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
As stupid as that sounds, That helped me hotwire my system.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
It helped me start learning that in order to get
good at this crazy game that I was playing, I
needed to find a.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Way to hit.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
I had to find a way to run through contact
and not flinch and shy away from that contact and
then begin to enjoy that contact and then almost begin
to need that contact.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
It's crazy.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
And so Aaron Rodgers, by playing this crazy game for
long enough, has become a little crazy.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
And so what he needs to do is he needs
to stoke.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
That craziness, especially around this time of year where you
got to ignite and you got to get some things done.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
You got to go out there with a purpose.

Speaker 5 (23:44):
And even if he needs to make the Jets enemy
or the media of the enemy, or whoever it is
that's doubting him, if he needs to build doubters so
he can prove them all wrong, well that's like you said,
that's his process. And if the results are there, who
can say it's a beat that process?

Speaker 2 (24:00):
No.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
And that's the other thing is nobody had talked about
him for a while, right, And you know I was
reading up a little bit, you know. So Jake Paul
wins another fight over the weekend and in response, right,
there's video Mike Tyson watching it. Eventually they're gonna get
into the ring in November, the fight that was rescheduled
and everything, and he flat out just said, I need

(24:21):
the attention. I need to be in the public spheres,
like that's just where I'm wired. Since I'm eighteen and
and got that first taste of celebrity, I need to.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Be in that public eye.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
And I think for Aaron Rodgers, some of it needs
to be I need to hear people talking badly about me. Why,
you know, his animosity towards Chicago, towards the end, you know,
I'm still I still own you kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Was so big.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
But the curiosity is you still have to go back
to work with these people with the Jets. Yeah, I
keep the hatred that you have with the Packers. I
get that. Okay, fine, it's a little odd that you
won't name them like they're Voldemort or some crap. That's fine,
But you go here like you got to go work
with these guys, and I get it. You know, Sala
to you is an empty suit. Let's just call it

(25:08):
what it is. You were able to get all your
buddies hired last year, and I don't fault it if
that's what's going to make you comfortable, and likewise, your
offensive coordinator is still there by your choice that you
can make that work.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
That's great.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Now, what you really need to be doing is hyping
the hell out of that offensive line that they reconstructed. Then,
on the surface, it's so great. They're rich, even if
the names have shuffled in. Still got some guys with
some injury histories and many weary miles on those tires.
But you know, I think i'd be looking inward of
I still got to go to work with those guys. Yes,

(25:44):
is a good media sound bite, and I could be
battling with somebody on the food chain, but I still
need to go to war with these guys.

Speaker 5 (25:50):
Yeah, but you can hold two truths together in your head,
even if they are oppositional. He could not like how
Robert Sala handled all that, but also still have respect
for him as a coach.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
You know, I mean, Look, this happens in relationships all
the time. I love my wife. Do I love everything
she's ever said to me? No?

Speaker 5 (26:10):
You know, I mean I love my kids. Do I
love every aspect of being their dad? Sometimes no, because
it's tough sometimes and you have hard moments and teachable
lessons and you know, I mean, look, embracing it is
what you need to do. And in relationships you have
ebbs and flows, you have ups and downs. I think
Robert Sala and Aaron Rodgers they had their first lover's quarrel,

(26:35):
you know, I mean there was something that got miscommunicated.
Both sides of the pillow were maybe a little warmer
than they wanted, you know what I mean, like there
was no cool side here, and so tempers maybe flared
behind the scenes.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
And then so you're seeing the spillover effect.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
You're seeing Robert Sala, you know, take up the position like, hey,
we're not making excuses here for Aaron or any player
who disobeys direct orders that this is a mandatory training
camp or mini camp practice.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
And Aaron Rodgers is gonna fire back and say, you know,
what are words your honor?

Speaker 5 (27:12):
I mean really, I'm just a simple cave man, nicely done.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
So it is, it's kind of silly. The argument's over semantics.

Speaker 5 (27:20):
But again, if somehow he finds a way to spin
this up or gin this into a situation where the
media's against Aaron Rodgers like, you know, if that's where
this storyline lands. You know, some of the New York
media or some of the national press thinks that Aaron thinks.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Too highly of himself.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
He's gonna go out there at forty years of age
with a repaired Achilles ten in, and he's gonna try
to lead the Jets out of the basement of their division,
and he will fail. If that's what gets him motivated
to pull his cleats on and try really hard to
prove them all this season. I don't think Roberts Aal
is gonna care very much because if I'm Robert Sala

(28:02):
and I know my job relies on his performance, I
don't care how he motive motivates himself. In fact, I
might joke with him and say, hey, buddy, you know
you want to miss another manator.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Practice kicked off. Whatever he's gonna do, im a tiger baby.

Speaker 9 (28:19):
Tell me what you need me to tell you to
keep you playing like this, because I'll say it. I'll
say it, brother, because that's the truth his career I'm
talking about. Robert Sala is now officially hitched to the
next couple of months of.

Speaker 4 (28:34):
Aaron Rogerson absolutely and Rogers in that interview, also saying
I'd like to win two super Bowls and then walk away.
That would really elevate him in my book, because right
now he's one two with Peyton Manning as the two
best regular season quarterbacks I've ever seen regular season quarterbacks. Yeah,

(28:56):
I got it in the larger scheme fail, So there
you go.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Look, look, I mean, here's the deal. Not everybody's going
to be impressed. Not everybody's going to be impressed. We
were just talking about Dak Prescott with Jason locking For
earlier in the show Dak Prescott. He said, Look, I'm
not even the biggest Dak fan, but to deny that
he's been successful with the Dallas Cowboys is to deny reality.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
Yeah, it's foolhardy, right, Yeah, twelve thirteen wins a year.
How many teams you can make that claim that they just.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Can't And here's and here's the thing has he gotten now?

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Maybe going on? Two head coaches fired in Dallas during
his tenure as the starting quarterback. Yeah, you know, if
they keep that and they move on from McCarthy and
they take a third crack at this during his tenure, Yeah,
I mean, I guess you could make that argument. Is
his playoff record not great? Yeah, two and five is
not great. Is it all his fault? The answer is no.

(29:58):
Have the regular season been great? The answer is yeah. Overall,
when he's healthy, yeah, they've been pretty great. So look,
there's a lot of ways to discuss these matters. Aaron
Rodgers does have one thing that DAC doesn't have. That
a guy like Kirk Cousins doesn't have. A guy like
Rock Purdy who kind of feels like he's cut from
the same cloth we'll see where his career goes, doesn't

(30:21):
have and that's a super Bowl victory, and so you'll
never be able to take that away from him. Yeah,
you know, that's that's something that is going to be
on the mantle, you know, for the rest of his
life and will help him into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
There's no debate there. But but I agree with what
you said.

Speaker 5 (30:38):
He is an excellent player in the regular season. But
he's had some serious gaffes in the postseason and some
that I'm sure he's looking to rectify in New York and.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
They've got the team to do it. It all comes
down to his play.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
The excellence of execution. He's rich heorn Berger.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
And for Jason Smith, I'm Mike Carmen will turn to
the other side of that coin and Jordan Love coming
up rich heorn Berger and for Jason Smith Carmen. As
we continue, Jordan Love, he's around the practice facilities. He's
hanging out with the guys, but he's not throwing any footballs.
The GM tells you why next here on Fox.

I just did all your holiday shopping for you as well.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
Easy.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
I'm gonna design a bunch of cards just highlighting the
iHeartRadio app and the content here at Fox Sports Radio
as well as we're in the NFL mode plenty coming
from training camps and one of the stories following again
the ownership of the Packers over my beloved bears low
these many many years from Don Mkowski into Brett favre in,

(32:41):
Aaron Rodgers now into the Jordan Love era. One of
the guys that did I think I was one of
few Rich when they drafted him in the first round
years ago, said good, that's the move. This guy's been hurt.
He threatens to retire, and you don't want to have
another situation like when Brent Huntley had to take over
for a pretty good team and you watched a good

(33:02):
season with a good roster melt away into the ether. Well,
now they have the decision to make of well, what's
the price a poker for Jordan Love, and Brian Gudokuns
addressed that earlier today.

Speaker 10 (33:16):
We're very down the road as far as we know
that he's our franchise quarterback and we're ready to move forward.
That's not it's not like we're trying to make that decision.
But at the same time, we want to put the
best team around him we can and we want to
make sure that you know, there's there's certainly the structure
of it so that we can do what we need
to do for our football team moving forward, not only
this year, but years to come.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Is very very important.

Speaker 10 (33:35):
Again, like I said, it's this is just part of it,
not unexpected, and we'll work to get it done and
you know, hopefully he won't miss too much time because
it is you know, we got a lot of work
to do. You know, we think we have a very
good football team, but we got to come together as
a team and he's a big part of that. So
him being out there is important for.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Us there it is put the pressure on Jordan Love
will not practice with the Packers until the deal is done.
Starts singing the Gambler while I'm at it. But that's
where we're at. We're playing poker and deciding what the
final price is in terms of pushing this team forward
because the opportunity certainly there in Minnesota. Moving on, it's

(34:15):
the Sam Darnold JJ McCarthy world. As Kirk Captain Kirk
heads over to Atlanta. We talked about him moving down
there a little last hour. The bears on paper a
lot to like for eber Flus in company. And then Detroit,
let's see you do it again. Right, it's one of
those all right, we have proof of concept, now do
it again. And that's really what you have for Jordan
Love is you had to see him play, and he did,

(34:38):
and now you have proof of concept of what he
can do in theory. You'll have the full compliment of
receivers there for him, new tailback that you bring in,
so all of that to say, you know what, you're
moving forward and I think good Kun said it all
right there he's our franchise guy. Now it's just a
matter of figuring out where we sign up on the

(35:00):
dotted line.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
Yeah, yeah, Look, I think this is all part of
the process, and I think sometimes it can get away
from me a little bit. Maybe that's the case with
the San Francisco forty nine ers. However, if you trust
the process, and you see what happened with Deebo Samuel
who scrubbed his Instagram accounts and there were source reports
of him saying things to people in nightclubs about how

(35:24):
he's fairly certain he's no longer going to be a
forty nine er. There was a lot of smoke, and
the truth is there was still fire burning on both
sides for one another. He wanted to get the deal
done with the Niners. He wanted to get paid what
he felt he was owed. The Niners didn't want to
meet him where he was. They found the middle ground,
they got the deal done. So maybe it happens with

(35:45):
Ayyuk too, you know, with Jordan Love, this feels very
much so.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Part of the process.

Speaker 5 (35:51):
I asked Jason Lockham for earlier why did Brian gutten
Kun say this publicly? And the reason why I asked
him that is because is it.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
Really one hundred percent necessary?

Speaker 5 (36:03):
Like is there a way that they can say Jordan
Love isn't practicing and it's for non football reasons and
kind of keep this story at bay for a little bit.
I don't know, maybe not. I guess it depends on
how close they are to getting a contract sign and
then maybe they can come out with it on the

(36:25):
other side of the actual signature day. But it just
feels like we're just checking boxes here as we're heading
toward the inevitable.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
I just felt if he's gonna say it that, I
think they're probably pretty close. Yeah, otherwise you're keeping your
mouth shut. We're still waiting on Tua and of course
Dak as well. He's rich in for Jason Smith. I'm
by Carmen coming up next. Popular team may be practicing
near you, but guess what, based on some NFL.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Rules, you won't be able to go see him. We'll
tell you
