Congratulations to the San Francisco forty Niners. They are your
NFC West champions. It looked like they were just gonna
blow the doors off the Seahawks. Instead, they got out
to lead. They held the Seahawks down. They were able
to control the ball. At the end, brock Purty makes
a couple of nice throws, They're able to kill the
(01:08):
clock and they win one to thanks to Jay Glazer
for stopping by earlier in the show talking to us
about the Niners and Brock Purty. And I'll tell you
what harm um, you know watching the game tonight and
and this is why you know. I I tell you
many times Brock Purty is gonna be starting quarterback in
the NFC title game, right I told you that a
(01:29):
couple of weeks ago. Because the Niners are that complete, Uh,
he's going to wind up being a guy that competes
with train Lance for the starting job next season. The
number one thing that that comes to me on on
Party when you watch him play is is, let's just
say for a second, you didn't watch any football this year,
and you watch the forty Niners the last three weeks,
(01:51):
and you just you said, Okay, we're gonna start to
show you some forty Niner games. We're picking things up
here in in you know, week eleven, and here you go,
and you'd watch the game and would say, wow, boy,
this Brock Purdy, he's come along pretty fast, right being
I mean, I haven't seen the other eleven games this
guy played, but boy he doesn't play like a rookie, right,
I know. It's kind of it's kind of simple to say,
(02:12):
but you can just tell when a guy goes out
there and he has the kind of swagger and the
belief in his ability to do what he can do.
And this is someone who look you're talking about Mr Irrelevant, right.
I mean I watched Zack Wilson, the number two overall
picking the draft, stand in the pocket and go where
do I throw the ball? Can't throw out there? No,
can't throw it there. No, can't throw there, No, can't
throw no. Okay, I'm just gonna throw it out a
bounds And I go, what what are we doing? Right?
(02:34):
Mike White comes in and he was like, yeah, I'm
gonna throw the football and he get rid of the ball.
I'm gonna trust the playmakers. And look at the Jets now,
they're they're on the peripheral playoff contention, even though they
don't have a quarterback. That's kind of what Purdy does, right.
He makes throws that that that what he throws off
his back foot, you know, and on a post corner pattern,
and I go, wow, that's a that's a throw that
you only see guys like Russell Wilson make when he's
(02:54):
in trouble in the pocket, and guys that have played
around a while is that he doesn't. And I know
it's it's elementary to say about it, but that's why
I give him so much more credit than you can
give quarterbacks by saying, Okay, it's only a little bit
of time, because he doesn't play that way. He doesn't
play like a guy that's gonna get slowed down. And
if he does get to a point where teams can
figure something out, he doesn't look like a guy that's
gonna get caught with deer in headlights. And I don't
(03:16):
know what. I don't know what to do now because
I can't find my first read or they're they're bottling
up Christian McCaffrey, and I you know, Auk is not
getting open down the side, and he doesn't look like
a guy that can do that because you look at
last week, Hey you got a big game, and deebo
is having a big game before he left tonight it
was kindled with a big game, So it's almost like
you can see the game plan coming in and and
brock Purty can do everything he needs to do. Not
(03:39):
this guy suddenly is a is a big superstar. But um, yeah,
I'm believing in the Niners because they are this good
and they got a quarterback that is not going to
be someone who is going to shrink away or you
have to worry about dialing things back because we're getting
set with a third string quarterback. It's amazing that the
Niners have gone, we love Garoppolo, we love Lance, lost
(04:00):
both of them. What do we do and now the
guy that's third string might be the best out of
all three of them. Think about that first. Well, but
at some point, you know, they might start looking in
the mirror saying, I love me some me right. They
might become Cliff Kingsbury just with some success. Oh did
I do that? Yeah? Do you know Cliff Kingsbury does not?
He deserves a lot, But he did not deserve that
from you right there. I think he deserved I think
(04:21):
he Let me. Let me show you where I did
my draft from. Look at the house I read. I
think it is negative negative. No, Look when we look
at the forty Niners, and something Jay Glazer talked about
was attitude, structure and what Shanahan is building and has built,
(04:42):
and that continuity is there. Now, would you have expected
Brockburdy to roll in do you think necessarily after you
know just about three games, you know this is the
be all to end all. Here he is, He's on
the road to the Hall of Fame. Remember we said
that about to and so many other quarterbacks through the
years after short stints. But what you have right now
(05:06):
is a structure where you have a number of talented
skill position guys ready to get after it. Right. You
had a night tonight where Brandon Aiyuk had two catches
for nineteen yards. You had Tyler Croft who suddenly was
off rolled off a block, uh and then got wide
open twenty eight yard completion. Purty finds him in stride
(05:30):
and everybody smiles. He's the first guy to meet everybody
as they come off, just from converting a P a
T slapping everybody high fives like he's jacked up. And
something I think requires the deeper dive. I know, Um,
there there's some websites that that are doing that and
tracking it, and uh, maybe maybe it's time to get
into their research. A bit about guys like Brock Purty
(05:52):
who have ridiculous amounts of reps in competitive successful college
programs versus the shiny new toy. Right the NBA has
done this for a long long time. Remember when they
put the the idiotic rule, and it was deprect protect
guys from themselves because it was the shiny new toy. No, no, no,
(06:14):
you gotta go do something for a year before you
come to the NBA, because time and time again it
was potential with a giant blinking p uh, and then
the guy wouldn't pan out right got there and going
straight to the to the NBA. So many guys made
bad choices and bad fits for their NBA team that
(06:37):
one after another, these guys washed out and then not
to say they weren't talented players, but they weren't ready
for that life and the NBA life, And so they
put in that rule. Right, the NFL, they've got the
rule of three years from your your high school senior year.
Remember Larry Fitzgerald and the path that he took. But
(06:59):
one during if we were to do the deep dive
on a lot of these quarterbacks, and you brought up
Zack Wilson, so we'll use him as a poster point.
You don't, well, you can go to his teammate, Trey Lance. Right,
Let's go, well, let's go to Tray Lance, right, he's
drafted third. A lot of people handwringing and get got
all upset at that trade. Well, you know what, they
(07:19):
went and got the guy they wanted. Maybe it works,
maybe it doesn't. It's the what justification explanation I always
had with the Bears and Trabisky. Everybody could laugh at it.
They got the two playoff runs. Whether you want to
give him any credit, partial credit, whatever or not. And
it doesn't mean he becomes a perennial Pro Bowl or whatever,
but that he had some success along the way. They
(07:42):
went and got their guy. Teams take big swings and
misses all the time, and with Trey Lance, we don't
know what he is between injuries and having just one
year because of COVID and everything else. We don't know
if he's gonna pay out. But brock Purty, you watched
him played for four years Fry with State. You watched
him play for a competitive program and a coach that's
(08:03):
pretty well regarded. Eighty one touchdowns, thirty three picks in
his collegiate career, completing sixty of his past attempts. The
guy's battle tested. The guy was ready to come in
and he and he plays with the the swagger, but
having McCaffrey kittle debo before he got hurt last week
in Brandon ayook Trent Williams, Who's gonna wipe out anybody
(08:26):
that comes anywhere near me. I'm feeling pretty good about that,
Feeling pretty good about my chances to slide an extra
step and let my guy break containment. They've got a
great system there. What it means for pretty long term,
I don't know, but I kind of think the ceiling
UH is pretty high for what this squad could do
right right now based on what Nick Bosa and the
(08:49):
defense are doing on the other side to complement it. Well, look,
I'll give you the the short and long term view
for Purdy in the forty Niners. We could talk about
how complicated other banks make it turty credit card rewards,
or we could talk about how with Discovery you can
redeem your rewards for cash and any amount at any time.
I mean, talk about amazing learn more at discovered dot
com slash redeemed rewards terms they do apply right now.
(09:11):
And look, and this is why I said Purdie is
gonna be starting in the NFC Championship game, because the
Niners are basically quarterback proof. They are so unbelievably loaded
everywhere that as long as you don't make mistakes, you'll
be okay. But now you're but you're more than okay, right,
Like Brock Purdy is a better Mike White, right, because
(09:31):
you look at the Jets, they're kind of like San
Francisco light where they're they're still loaded everywhere, and they
have a quarterback question. San Francisco is a little more
loaded everywhere, and they got a quarterback question. And Purdy
is just a little bit better. He's a little bit
more to that. He gets the team in the end zone,
right that they have to worry about kicking field goals.
He either that's what happens that because the last couple
(09:51):
of weeks the Jets offense has been bad. They forgot
how to score, and the Niners keep scoring enough. Right, Oh,
they were up twenty one, they could have scored more.
They won on the out on a Thursday night, right,
and parties responsible for two touchdowns. All right, so this
is yeah, you get to the end of the season
and the Niners gonna be the best team in the NFC,
and it's gonna be man. I know, the road goes
through Philadelphia with home field advantage everything. But boy, this
(10:13):
Niners team looks absolutely loaded and they're gonna be the
best team. So you got parties, gonna be playing in
these big games all the way through the playoffs, and
you're gonna get to next season. The off season, the
Niners are gonna say, Okay, this is what we have
to do right now. Our quarterbacks are Trey Lance and
Brock Purty, and we are going to let them battle
it out over the course of the spring and summer,
(10:34):
and we're gonna fight the pr battle and and have
the image thing. Hey, if we get too many reports
of Trey Lands, thinks it's gonna be Tray is coming
back from a major injury and maybe Brock's got a
little bit leg up. We don't want either guy to
feel back, because that's what the Niners do, right I
don't want anybody We're they're so afraid to make a
quarterback move. Oh we can't do you. So they're gonna
wind up battling it out, and it's gonna be pretty
(10:55):
versus Lance for the starting quarterback gig next year. That's
how what's gonna go. Things are working out for the
forty nine, which is insane. They lose three guys, They
lose their top two quarterbacks, and their third string quarterback
turns out to be better than the first two. And
now they're going to next year going, yeah, now we're
good with those two. We still have a team loaded
to win the Super Bowl. We have guys that players
believe in, because the players love Trade Lance, they love
(11:16):
Brock Purdy. Yeah, we're good with either of these guys
because we win. And that's the future for the forty niners.
And and for Brock Purty. Not saying he's gonna be
the next Tom Brady, but he might be. He's not
gonna be the next Tom Brady, but he's someone who's
come in. And this is the year of the backup quarterback, right,
this is the year of the backup quarterback. Because we've
seen Mike White come in and look amazing. Right, We've
(11:37):
watched Geno Smith come in and and he's gonna wind
up getting himself a huge contract somewhere because of how
he's played for the this year for for the Seahawks. Right,
we've seen backups come in and play extremely well and
and okay, and now Brock Purdy is the latest guy
to come in and say, all right, this is my time.
Now he's played himself into a large role and it's
he's no longer just hey, what a great succes story.
(12:00):
Mr Irrelevant. He's Hey, the Niners can get to the
NFC Champion game with him his quarterback, and they can
go even for you can win a super Bowl with
Mr Irrelevant at court. Just think about that. They moved
past that headline now to the Niners are a team
that everybody in the NFL is afraid of. And Brock
Purdy's a big reason why Jimmy Garoppolo before this was
playing okay, he was playing a little bit better than
(12:21):
he was earlier in the season, but still Garoppolo as
times when he doesn't make the right REGI doesn't get
the ball out. You know, you see the criticisms of him.
Who knows what Trey Lance was. Now you have Brock
Purty that there's no questions about, and and it's could
be a different night, different different stars, you know, making
the big plays. That tonight was George Kittle's night. And
he's on the set on Amazon after him and Purty
(12:43):
talking Iowa, Iowa State. It's oh, it's it's hard guys
and cyclos we love each other. Telling you, Madie, he's
absolutely legit, and you look at the future this guy has,
that's his future. Look at you, telling you, man, you
in your holiday loving spirit plays three three games and
you want to put him as the tree topper in
(13:04):
this holiday holiday holiday season. D Oh, he's had a
fantastic run. Right, they had the graphic up he vanquished Brady. Right,
there's your super Bowl winning quarterback, went platinum seven times.
And then you got the super Bowl winning coach Pete
Carroll who's now in near tears because Tyler Lockett hurt
his hand. All of that stuff. No, those are great,
(13:25):
I take nothing away from that, but I mean, as
dead as Green famously said, you want to crown him,
crown him. There's a lot of football to be played
with a lot of guys that we've done the well,
they'll be really good if and it relates a lot
to help. No. No, I look, the show is tonight.
We play it tonight. But you're going forward like all
(13:46):
these guys are suddenly having the cloak of invisibility and
none of those injury histories Kittle Boast, McCaffrey, all of
that's gonna go away just because they're magically in San Francisco.
Come on now, Uh, when you saved, you're Denny Green.
You want to go ahead and crown him? Who was
he talking about? Right? And what what do the Bears
(14:08):
do that season? What they do that season? They lost
in the Super Bowl? Ah, they went to the Super Bowl. Okay,
you want to talk about a team that got everything
to go right and crown right super Bowl? But nobody
like this is the first time that Super Bowl has
been acknowledged in in forever. Everybody talks about it as
(14:29):
all right, Peyton Manning beat a bad team in the
rain and Prince performed at halftime. It's more about the
damn halftime performance than anything else. Still got super Bowl,
super Bowl, super Bowls? Alright, alright, no, well, I mean
that first play was fantastic. Unknow him much after devon Astro.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith

rewards for cash and any amount at anytime. I mean,
talk about amazing learn more at discover dot com slash
redeem rewards terms they do apply. Well, it took me
a little bit in Mike Harmon, but I figured it
out right. You know who brock Purdy looks like when
I look at him, you know, not so much during
the game, uh, but in the head shots when they
show him on TV and he's smiling when they show here,
(15:35):
here he is, you know, here's Brock Purdy and they
show the head shot of him, he looks like Chad Low,
rob Low's brother. He he looks like I hang out
and sch life goes on. Yeah, yeah, and TJ clearly
after Garoppolo's injury, life went on for the forty times
and brock Purdy at quarterback d j Uh, it's Je's Chadock.
(15:58):
He's got that smiling scenes he's got he's got that
had Low look. He's Michael Sarah from super Bad. He
does that hair a bit. Yeah, that's not bad. That's
not bad. When I don't have hair. You can't compare.
You can only compare hair to hair if someone actually
has What do you know about hair? You having? I've
made a choice. I've been shaving my head for I think.
(16:19):
I think nature made a choice, and you just no,
I beat nature. I said, Oh, you think you're gonna win. No,
I'm gonna win because I'm shaving my head. That's not winning.
That's abdicating. That quitting. That's winning. That's quitting. Quitting is
just sitting around going no, well it's gonna happen. You
think you want. No, No, it's not quit. You come,
(16:42):
what stop? You should shave your head? Why not? Why
don't you do? Because the rest of the guys, I
work with the ball. You got you, you got Glazer.
I'm not gonna be another guy. So what you mean?
There's other people that have that have shaved The Rock
has a shaved head. You worried about him? Yeah, a
friend by extension the choice, by the way they taramana
(17:03):
eggnog ice cream. Man. Let me tell you no, no, no,
you win. You win. You win when you decide. Okay,
mother nature thinks it's gonna win. No, no, no, no,
you're not gonna win. I'm gonna win. You can't burn
it to the ground. I was. Do you think you're
gonna win? I'm gonna win right here. Yeah, you can
rain look like lobot walking around. No, you know, gonna
(17:27):
look like see that one coming India. All you nerds
out there listening nationwide and around the globe. I just
want your praise. Okay, very nice. You know what sucks
for Jason more than not having hair, Mike oh, covering
it up with mats hats? Well, yeah, I mean there
is always the question of like, what are you got
(17:48):
going on into there? You're wearing a ball caps like
I like to work. Nobody says that they see the
hat in that case, why sometimes you get other questions
asking me about my health and stuff, which takes me
into weird place. It's a winning hat, it's a win,
it's a winning strategy. It's a winning strategy. I won,
I won, I've won, I've I win all my battles,
(18:08):
I win all the battles. Yeah, can you pay him
on a bit. I'm a winner. I'm a winning Okay, okay, okay,
now that's that's getting that battles battles off, Smith battles
off the air. I I don't win as often, but
I win battles on the air, off the air. Okay, okay, okay, okay,
(18:31):
with everybody with you, with Frostburg, with you, Lieutenant Winberg,
all of you, everybody, everybody, every single person. Um. Look,
brock Purty, we talked about him a few minutes ago,
we talked about chan. I mean, you've made brock Purty
Hall of Famer after three brock Purty, I'm telling you,
(18:53):
brock Purty also looks a little bit like Matt Moseley
the Cowboys. Right, he's been on the show much time.
He kind of looks like Matt Moseley a little bit.
But yeah, I'm gonna get a little bit of chat Low, Chadlow.
But let's get to Geno Smith here for a couple
of seconds, because they lose tonight and maybe he could
have had a chance to bring him back and tie
the game. But the Seahawks kick deep after they get
(19:15):
within a touchdown, the Seahawks defense doesn't get the ball
back from the Niners. The Niners killed the clock and
then during that drive too, they had a challenge that
uh that was a bad challenge, uh, losing time out
as Purdie went to the slide and then reached the
ball out as he as he started into the kicks slide. Yeah.
(19:37):
Well that's the thing is I wonder how much how
much practice do quarterbacks do on the slide? You know
everybody they take like ten minutes of work on slides,
Like did they put out the slipping slide and then
they work on slides? Because I do that with the
girls I coach in in soft It's like, okay, let's
let's do some sliding practice, but put out a slip
and slide you run on and on slide. Let's work
on this, work on this, work on this, like like
(19:58):
we I wonder if NFL teams do that. Creepy, but
I get the point. There is some validity in the
I'm not doing it in a bathing suit. I mean,
the girls are all doing. I did not want to
have the image of you in a bathing suit. You
just did. I got the I got the big snorkel
mats going up and the and the big long Mets
(20:19):
Mets bathing suit on with all the colors. Here I go. Now,
I got the big flippers on my feet. I got
jets flippers on my feet. I'm ready to go. I'm
ready to go. Uh He's like the principal from Billy Madison.
But Gino Smith tonight, okay, for a few minutes on him,
(20:42):
thirty one out of forty four, he goes for two
thirty eight throws a touchdown. Didn't play poorly tonight. He
was under darrest the entire game. And while the results
haven't been there for the Seahawks the last few weeks, already,
I can see the popular storyline being, Oh, Geno Smith
is striking midnight, Gino Smith is still playing at a
(21:03):
really high level. What's happening is you are seeing the
Seahawks come back to the pack lot because of the
overall talent level that the team has. This is not
a greatly talented team on defense tonight defense, yeah, they're
not and and running the ball. They haven't been able
to run it the last few weeks. They were able
(21:24):
to run it big time earlier in this Remember it
didn't matter who was running the ball and there. But
now they've been slowed down. But the one guy who
has been consistent has been Geno Smith. I mean, you
know the Seahawks, Yes, they're gonna come back to the
packet because this is not a talented team, right. We
thought this is a team that was going to be
just competing for the number one overall pick in the draft,
and they were tanking because they're starting Gino Smith. But
(21:45):
twenty six touchdowns, eight picks, he's thrown for over thirty
seven hundred yards now and which is in the top seven.
He is still playing really really well. No, the results
aren't there on the scoreboard for the Seahawks, but like
I feel like they have found their I and now
we can sign Gino and he can play for us
next year and we don't have to go crazy. We
can give him like a two year, you know, to
(22:07):
fifty million dollar deal or something like that. Whatever you
want to do with Gino to give them a little
bit more money. But this is not a team that
is suddenly well all right, now what do we do?
You know, we're we're running less. No, no, you you
found a guy to play to execute the offense the
way you want it, and he does it at a
pretty high level. Right He's he's pretty dynamic when he
throws the football. He's had a bunch of three yard games,
(22:28):
so yeah, you know he can do that and and
maybe it's the late season or the late career resurgence
that we see in guys sometimes like Matthew Stafford last year,
other players when they when their thirty three, Hey, I
finally found my well, like Ryan Tannehill flamed out and
finally he you know, he hit it in Tennessee when
it was his last chance. So all the Geno I'm
not here for any Geno Smith slander. Gino Smith is
(22:50):
still playing really, really well, and he'll still get a
big contract. He'll be the Seahawks quarterback. If he's smart.
He stays because he stays where he's become really good.
The world is littered with players who suddenly think, oh
I hit it, I did great here. Now I'm gonna
chase the money someplace else. No, stay where they believe
in you, where they love you, and you can have
a long career there. But but then, none of this
(23:11):
is on Gino Smith. I still nine touchdowns in the
last four games, right, He's still his quarterback rating is
still pretty high. So it's it's not like all of
a sudden he's falling off a cliff and he's throwing
one touchdown in the last month. That No, he's still
playing at a high level. So yeah, he it's it's
not happening on the scoreboard. But Gino Smith is still Look,
we talked about brock Party being legit. Gino Smith is
(23:31):
still extremely legit. Yeah, I think you got a guy
that's three touchdowns per interceptions, taking care of the football
for the most part. Right, had one that probably should
have been an interception and taken to the house today.
You know what, it didn't count. They wiped it off.
So they're um, look, a hundred sixty one rushing yards
allowed per game, five point four points per game, that's all.
(23:56):
That's all you really need to say. You're you're down
at the bottom in those categories rees, right, and in
terms of rushing defense only the Texans are worse. And
in terms of points allowed per game, which is total defense.
I did a rant yesterday. Find the podcast. Uh there,
Uh they are right now twenty nine twenty five point
(24:16):
four points per game. Bears, Lions and Cardinals are worse.
One of those teams potentially playoff viable and a fight
the others two of the worst stories in the National
Football League. So we we look at Gino and you
you've built the offense, right, when they've been able to
run the ball consistently. Look, if you were going to
criticize anything tonight, recognizing he's got to be a beat
(24:39):
faster with getting rid of the ball, right, that's the
the adjustment between him, coordinator, play calling, etcetera. Nick Bolsa
was in the backfield all night long. I tried to say, Joey,
but he's still not playing. But we saw him on
the sideline this week. But the point being that the
offensive line was not a match This is not a
(25:01):
good matchup for them, and which meant his internal clock
had to be a little bit faster, and a couple
of times he narrowly escaped big time disaster, right, and
then they had a fumble after reception like that. They
had a couple of plays go against them that really
made this thing bad. But really, when you look at it,
the defense failed miserably on a couple of huge plays.
(25:25):
The two Kittle touchdowns were inexcusable. Right, he's standing alone
in the in the middle of the field and walks
into the end zone. And the other the fifty four
yard reception, there wasn't a cornerback within fifteen yards of him,
and again walks to the house, so good throws by
(25:45):
Purdy whatever that those can't be an indictment of Geno saying, oh,
now they're losing because the defense is not showing up.
They're getting nothing. Last week they got absolutely run over
by Carolina and led by Sam Donald, who I think
for about four four yards more than you and I
did combined. Hey, do whatever it takes to win the game.
(26:07):
And that's they did. And right now for Seattle, with
all those picks they got from Denver, all of those
considerations going forward, got a lot of opportunity to shore
up both that offensive line and that defense in the
upcoming draft. Yeah, you paid Gino, give him a one
and one, give him a two and one. Whatever the
deal is short term, say all right, prove it again.
(26:31):
But he's done everything that he needs to do to
show that he can run this offense. I'm just waiting
for the inevitable. Should the Jets have a reunion with
Gino Smith, I just don't want it. I like him,
I like him in Seattle. I like I don't want
to see that out there. I'd like him in Seattle.
I don't want to see that it could be reunion.
Off to Brady returns to New England like Gronk was saying, Gee, gee,
(26:55):
now back to the Jets. Michael, which one I do like?
Reality responded to you one of your latest tweets, though, Jason,

terms they do apply. We'll get back into the forty
Niners and the Seahawks coming up in a few minutes.
Your Niners, my my Niners. Hey, look, Mike Harmon, I
told you two weeks ago Niners and Eagles in the
NFC Championship game, right, did I? Or did I not?
Brock Purdy was gonna be one of the quarterbacks the
NFC Championship game against Jaylon Hurts. I told you, I
(28:00):
told you it was gonna happen on I think you
supply at n I l Yeah, you're a little slow
on the uptake of this. Yeah, I was. I should
have had it more than two to three weeks. I
should have had it more than two weeks ago. You
know about I had to wait till he played the game, right,
I couldn't do it before he played a game. I mean,
you were you had spies in in practices six seven
(28:21):
weeks ago saying, oh, he's coming along. Just just wait.
Jimmy's gonna get hurt. He'll take over for Jimmy. Just
watch like I told two weeks ago, forty nine. I know,
I know. It's tough, man. It's very very difficult, very difficult.
But another big NFL story of the day. And I
love the fact that the Cowboys and Eagles are already
(28:43):
looking ahead to a week from Sunday when they battle
in the winter take some or all of the NFC East.
You got Micah Parsons going back and forth ripping the Eagles.
He said that I'm sure the Eagles hate me. It's
been so much fun seeing this man. Dallas is feeling
the contenders now, and it's kind of fun. It's kind
of fun seeing Dallas being bad boys because for the
(29:04):
longest time, the Cowboys have been Hey, hey, we're figuring
it out. You know. No, no, don't be those big
bullies on the block. It's more fun, more passionate about
the Cowboys. Yeah, but to be fair in the and
the Mica parts and stuff. I mean, he really went
out of his way to throw flowers at everybody. There
really wasn't a lot of vitriol or angler. It was like, wow,
they got they got a machine over there. Yeah yeah, yeah, Well,
(29:27):
but you're the thing is you're talking about the game
when you each have another game to play. Eagles are
the Bears, Yeah yeah, yeah. But here's the thing about
the Cowboys. I like that they're feeling Hey, we're feeling
pretty good here walking around. We're feeling good. We're feeling good.
But while we're getting with t J, while we're getting
close to Christmas and the holiday holiday holidays, the Cowboys
(29:49):
need to give thanks, right because the Cowboys were the
beneficiaries of the biggest blessing in disguise all season long. Right,
they figured out, and they knew because they were forced
to get along without Dak Prescott, right and Dak Prescot. Look,
you never root for guys being hurt, obviously, and Dak
Prescott getting hurt. We thought that season was going to
(30:10):
be going down the tubes of them already after one week.
But what the Cowboys learned is that we can adjust,
and our team is good enough that we don't need
Dak Prescott to throw the Zach Wilson. We don't need
Zach wils at all, and we don't need Dak Prescott
to be what we what we signed him to be.
They realized that being a balanced team works, and they're
(30:32):
forced to it because as good as Cooper Rushes when
he came in, Cooper rush was still pretty pedestrian. Right,
He was able to keep the ship afloat. He made
a couple of plays when he had too awesome. But
the Cowboys learned that we didn't need to be Dak reliant.
We were able to adjust. We talked about this weeks ago. Hey,
they were Tony Pollard. You can give him a lot
of responsibility, guys. During one of the best running backs
(30:53):
in the NFL. We still have the weapons to throw
the football. Our defense takes the ball away. We don't
need to worry about it. And if Dac had not
gotten hurt, I guarantee you this. I guarantee you this.
If Dak had not gotten hurt, it would be a
season so far for the Cowboys and'd still be doing
it of Dak Prescott throwing the football forty more times
a game, and they'd be about a five hundred team
(31:16):
because they signed back and they gave all that money,
and that was their plan that we're Dak driven. We're
gonna throw it, throw and throw it. Doc is our guy, right,
Dad's gonna get the ball, he's gonna get the ball
out of trouble and make plays with his legs. Are
gonna throw it deep downfield. And they would continue to
throw the football four eight times a game because they
think this is how we have to win, This is
how we were built to win. But the catching get
catching that the silver lining in Dak getting hurt was, Hey,
(31:39):
we don't need to win that way. We can win
with a more balanced attack. Because I'm telling you, if
Dak would if nothing had happened and Dad didn't have
to miss time. I mean, the Dallas would be offered
to be hey, every week it's it's dak Is throwing
three touchdowns and throwing two picks and the Cowboys win shootout,
they lose a shootout, and they'd be meandering around five
hundred just hoping to make the playoffs. Instead, now they're
(32:00):
legitimate threat, and they still even though the Eagles have
been great, they're still a big, legitimate threat potentially win
the NFC East. Looking ahead to that big show down
a week from now. Five straight games before last week
where he'd appearances where he'd thrown multiple touchdowns. Last week's
game against Houston was an odd one to say the least.
(32:21):
But they come back and they get the W two
eight four, one and two. And there's some concern he's
addressed in a bit when we go to touchdown interception ratio,
because those look a lot like uh, old school NFL numbers, right,
not two and a half to one, three and a
half to One's like, now, I'm putting the ball in
play and I'm gonna try to make a play, especially
when I've got enough playmakers surrounding me. The two back
(32:45):
approach with Elliott back and healthy, but you look at
his game log to your point, only twice as he
throwing the ball more than thirty times in a game
the overtime lost to Green Bay back on the thirteenth
of November end this past week when they were in
catchup mode. So balance uh and definition and the fact
(33:06):
that you've got a swarming and at times dominating defense.
It's a good formula. Don't don't try to go and
and fix something that doesn't need to be When you're
winning these games, and in multiple games against what appeared
to be quality opponents, you're winning comfortably to where you
(33:27):
don't have to rely on it. You're not pressing the
ball downfield. You're more than happy to run clock with
Pollard and Elliott. Good winning formula. Now it becomes the
question when the game is on the line, down the
stretch and as we get into January, if Dock's the
guy you want there. But that's the beauty of it.
You get your popcorn ready and see if he can
(33:49):
buck past performance.
