Let's give us parties you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Greetings, welcome in. It's the final hour of the program
here on a big week Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith
Show with me Mike Harmon. Thank you as always for
making us part of your extended playlist as you go
through the highways and byways. We do appreciate you being
part of the family. It is not lost on us
the choice you make in letting us entertain you over

(00:49):
the course and inform you, of course, over the course
of the week. Blessed to do it. As we get
into a new holiday set here, we always you know
everybody gets a little pensive at the holiday times, and
certainly we do as well. So thank you all on
a Friday into early Saturday, and thanks to Arnie for
joining us when Jason is out, Yes at sticking genius.

(01:13):
One little brother went to the Northwestern game earlier. He
was driving back back home and he goes, hey, could
you you did get Arnie to do his old catchphrase?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Oh Laker fans?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Oh, well you went that way. Yeah, we're gonna do
the Lakers here. Momentarily it was one of the thuer men.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
No.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
He always loved the in case you did.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Not know, Oh, in case you did not know this,
And then I would pause for like ten minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Well we can't do yeah, because otherwise we're gonna get
knock calls in the second. Yeah, you would pause for
ten minutes on radio.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
Yeah, it was more like twenty seconds. Still, Yeah, I
know that was way too long. The boss would yell
at me for that.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah. You can't even get a standing eight count before
sirens go off and people wondering what the hell happened?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Come on, man, Yeah, that was a bad thing to do.
I got in trouble for that. The worst thing I ever.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
How many times you've been suspended in your ratio?

Speaker 4 (02:10):
No, I've never been suspended, but I get in trouble
during the Laker playoff game. I thought this was funny.
I mean, I thought it was like the funniest thing
I ever did. John Blackpool, you CREDI No, I didn't
get pulled anything like that. But down at Staples if
you you know, there was an open glass area. There
was no store, there was no Starbucks. It was just

(02:33):
an open glass area, and we would do the show
from there, and everybody that was coming in the Staples
would walk by us. I mean, like all twenty thousand
people going to the game would walk right by us,
and we'd have loud speakers out and they'd stop in
front of me and watch the show and you know,
make hand gestures and all that stuff. Yeah, a lot

(02:55):
of it, but I mean they I mean, we had
like a big crowd out there. In a big crowd.
And then I realized when we went to a commercial break,
the commercials would not air over the speakers, but if
I said something into the mic, the crowd could hear me.
So I would start talking to the crowd, and then
I would say stuff like, welcome to Staples Center. Game

(03:19):
six of the playoffs or Game seven of the playoffs
with the Lakers and Portland Kobe Bryant out with a
broken leg.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
You know, or he really did that?

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Yeah, I really did that.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
I thought that was just an urban, urban legend.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
No, no, I really it was just a joke.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
That's a joke.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
It was just I thought it was funny at the time.
I don't well if the Lakers didn't find it funny.
About maybe less than a minute later, my boss called
me up and he's like, oh, I can't tell you
what he said, but it was like, please stop, please please,
please don't do that. He did not say. He didn't

(04:00):
say please stop. He put it in another way. He
said it away. I can't RecA.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Come on, Arnie, were in Safe Harbor.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
You know what's so funny?

Speaker 3 (04:08):
So yeah, yes, Arnold Elliott, how dare you?

Speaker 4 (04:13):
It was? I mean it was. It was bad than
like a couple of months later. I mean we're talking
months later. I actually ran into Kobe at the at
the complex. Did you analogize? No, it was just the
two of us, and he looks over to me and
he goes, broken leg. You couldn't even give me a
hamstring so maybe I could still play. He just he

(04:34):
just laughed and walked away, and I was laughing. So no,
he was funny. It was. It was. It was. I
thought it was a good time, but I guess not
everybody thought it was pretty funny at the time.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
I wonder why. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
I I bets play. I bet you people are laughing
at the story right now.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
I promise you that well these years later, especially if
you can add to you know, again, we need someone
to cor corroborate the I need a second or third
source to say that Kobe actually had had a sense
of humor about it.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Oh, he actually, you know, he he was. Let me
tell you that he was very approachable, Believe it or not, Mike,
he very approachable. He would actually go up to media people.
He It wasn't like it is now where you know,
you could barely get anything in the Lebron or something
like that. He he was very, you know, very down

(05:26):
down the earth type guy. And you he was very approachable.
If you wanted to get hold of him, you could.
You could easily probably get an interview with him.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
But that at stick a genius one that'll be part
of his book series.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah, I thought I thought it was a good time,
but I guess not. Well.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
But I mean, you know, giving the guy the broken leg,
and I do like the sense of humor of hate
that should be something where I still have a shot.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Yeah give you know, so he could still you know, get.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
But it would not have had the same effect on
the Laker fans. And look, even though you weren't on
air in that moment, you were trying to elicten and
response from Laker fans.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
That was the year I had to wash everybody's car
in LA because they won the championship and all the
Lakers bought their cars out there. We had we had
a big old line like a couple of miles long,
just washing cars. Well I didn't wash them, I had
somebody else do it. But that's besides.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
See this goes back to the whole you paid someone
else to wash the cars. You could pay someone else
to do the snow, and you and your wife could
sit and watch Hallmark a Lifetime movies ins.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
See how it all comes full circles. We weave a
rich tapestry here on the show, broadcasting live from the
ti rac dot com studios. Tirerac dot com will help
you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers. Tireract dot com.
The way tire buying should be earlier tonight we had

(06:48):
a couple of championship games college football. We've got a
few more tomorrow, big ones, no question about it. As
you related Arnie talking about the gravity. Hey, these teams
are still going to be in the playoffs. Doesn't mean
you're still not playing for pride for.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
I just want to say something about that, because for
the eighty Sea trip, the ACC Championship is tomorrow. I
just read this at the break at the top of
the hour. I was looking on Twitter Clemson and SMU
and that good way. You know, obviously doesn't have the
cachet Penn State Oregon has or Georgia Texas has. But
Clemson is only a two hour drive to Charlotte, North Carolina,

(07:27):
where the championship is. I don't know how far Dallas is.
Did you know that they're putting tarp all along the
upper tier of the of the stadium, the whole upper tier,
because it's not even close to getting that many people
in there. They're not even gonna get the middle tier

(07:48):
filled up. So back to what you were just gonna say,
Yeah it if this was just a regular championship and
the winner takes it this, this would be have a
lot more people at it. Two hours. That's nothing, Mike,
to go two hours in from from your college to
go watch your team play in the championship.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
No question about it. The SMU Clemson game retail or
resale market thirty five bucks if you want to get in.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Geez, you couldn't even get. You can't even get a
hot dog Minnesota for thirty five dollars in some of
these places.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
That stables that's half parking. Yeah, you're right, also known
as crypto right now.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Right that that that's ridiculous that that you couldn't even get.
I don't know how many people are going to be there,
what fifteen twenty thousand, I'm just guessing now because they're
roping off the whole upper part. But maybe it's not
a sixty matchup, but it's still somewhat of an important game.
Winner does go to the playoffs. So you would think
that the Clebson fans would make the two hour drive Dallas,

(08:54):
Texas down to Charlotte. Obviously that's a lot longer you'll
left to fly for that one.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, I guess said a longer drive slash flight at
Oregon Penn State at Lucas Oil Stadium. If I were
to ask you, what do you think get in for
that one?

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Is? Well, I can imagine there's not going to be
too many Oregon fans, and there's probably the Penn State
fans do travel well, but that's still another plane trip.
Plus are you gonna spend your money on this? Are
you going to spend your money on the twelve team playoffs?

Speaker 3 (09:24):
So see, there you go. An there's where we're starting
to parse things out of a little.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
That's exactly what I'm spending it. I look, if I'm
just I can only go to one. Let's say we're
all normal people, even you probably can't even go to one.
Does it cost so much money? But let's say you
can only go to one, it's not going to be
this one. I'll probably travel more when I get free
time off during the holidays. What is it? What's the ticket?
Thirty bucks for this one?

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Nineteen dollars? Oh my good, that's that's now You're at
Lucas Oil, You're at a monster stadium, all of those things.
Just has it.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
Always been like this for the championships or is it
starting to show the point that I I've made that
maybe these are a little bit watered down because they're
going to go to the twelfth team playoff anyway, and
fans are gonna save their money for the twelve team playoffs.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Well, but that's just it. It is one necessarily the
same as the other, and in that meaning sentiment and meaning.
Right again, going back to the word we used in
hour one, trying to figure out exactly what the word word.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Meaning is just still going to go to the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (10:27):
No, no, no, no. But but the idea being Arnie
that all right, I'm still gonna watch it. I'm still invested,
I'm still excitable, but my dollars are going towards the
next round, right right, versus this is a game I
have to go see. And we've stipulated in most sports
that they're better on television anyway.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Right, especially with the TVs they have no But.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
But that's my point, right, whether you go to you know,
the new Cosm thing where it's like virtual reality, like
you're on the field and all that kind of stuff,
those are starting to show up in different cities, and
Marketplace is evidently a kind of an interesting experience there.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
But just the what about what Rich said, Suppose you're
down twenty to nothing at that time, do you start
pulling the guys out in the third because you got
to get ready for the playoffs next.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Maybe sure, and that's it right now, you're really.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
Making it insignificant end of this game.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
No, but if you're up twenty eight, nothing, nobody's going
you're playing the guy your work well, but the nobody's
going that you make your decision, right, Can you take
the time off twenty three?

Speaker 4 (11:39):
I've never heard of a.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
But I don't know the difference between last year's game
and this year's game is I guess the larger right, right, right,
So I can't speak to that without we got to
do a little more deep dive into that as to
what these conference title games cost in the past. But
I can't imagine, you know, we're we talking. Maybe it's

(12:04):
maybe it's double, maybe it's a factor of three. It's
still under one hundred dollars a ticket or thereabouts for
a buy in last year. Got well's not which is
not like on the grand scale, significant.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
New teams, new conferences this year.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
But we always get into the discussion super Bowl time,
everybody gets sup, you know, sticker shock, and certainly for
the playoffs, you know, we'll we'll see what those prices
become as we go through Arnie. But you know, when
we get into those types of events, I'm always like,
how often is your team going if you really cared?

(12:38):
It's like anything you save for it, right. You know,
if your Dolphins suddenly made a Super Bowl run and
you start citing the cost of a ticket as an impediment,
it's like you've had an awful long time to save
that three thousand dollars.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
Yeah. And also if you're a good team, let's say
you're a Texas fan or a Georgia fan, you're saying
that your stuff. Okay, we win next week, we get
a buy so we don't have to worry about playing.
Then we get a home game advantage so we don't
have to worry about going on a road so you know,
we don't have to worry about this. You got any
money at that point.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
No, But that's just it, right. It's all about, you know,
being judicious with things and making your decisions right. For
some eating out is perfectly cool. Five times a week,
family of four at a restaurant or a takeout or
whatever you do, that's fine. Opportunity costs right, Cook a
meal at home and put that money towards tickets and parking. Right,

(13:34):
I've heard a lot of handwringing for what parking costs
in Los Angeles. It's like that's crazy, but you got
to factor it into your cost of entertainment, right right?
You think nothing again of going and eating a burger
and fries and a soft drink that costs you fifteen
to twenty bucks times four and doing that multiple times
a week. Yet, you know, going to a game and

(13:57):
having to pay for parking, you're killing you know anybody
associated with the product that it's an exorbitant cost.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Like that's why like Arthur Blank in Atlanta, because they
don't charge exorbitant prices for the food. I mean, matter
of fact, you could see what you get for twenty
dollars down there. It is crazy. I mean it's like
a hot dog is It's like Costco prices. It's real cheap.
It's unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yeah, that that. I want to see the business model
of what their cost cost is because you got to
add extra personnel. Whatever else? Is it? The uh costo?
You know rotisserie chicken of uh it's a loss leader.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Well they have the hot dogs, they're like a dollar.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
No, but That's my point, is the loss leader, like
from a business standpoint, like it's a good, feel good story.
What's it doing for your bottom line? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
I have no idea. I know the retissory chicken, they
don't make any money.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Oh, but that's my point, right is right there? Man?
I make you feel good about that. But you know,
if you have to pay extra for the tickets and parking,
you're not complaining because you get a two dollars.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
How do you like that good, good price of the pizza? Right?

Speaker 3 (15:05):
No, exactly, He's already Spaniard for Jason Smith. I'm by
Carmon having some fun with you Friday night early Saturday morning.
As we continue, we'll take a look at the day
that was for the Los Angeles Lakers, another tough hel,
but also looking ahead to the rest of Week fourteen
of your National Football League season, because it wouldn't be

(15:27):
a visit with Arnie Spaniard without at least one or
two upset picks. We'll do that all as we continue
here on Fox.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio App.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Hey, welcome back in Jason Smith Show with Me Mike
Carmon Live frothetirerac dot Com Studios, Arnie Span. You're in
for Jason Smith tonight. He calls it the Power Hour.
We call it hour four.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
Now, the Bonus hour.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
This the bonus Oh, it's the onus Hour.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Yeah, yeah, we'll just call it hour four here. Yeah,
four hours is a long time.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
It's four hours of greatness. We entered the hearts, minds
and souls of America and beyond. That's true every damn night.
You here already alongside Chris Plank eight pm Pacific time,
eleven o'clock Eastern Sunday nights. Here Fox Sports Radio. Always
take us with you the iHeartRadio App. We appreciate you

(16:28):
being part of the extended family this holiday holiday holiday season.
Be safe on the highways and byways as you get
into your weekends as well.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Maybe real quick, can I ask a question before we
get into the Lakers because I just saw a commercial
for it and I didn't ask you. I know we
texted each other before the thing. What this because I'm
looking at it right now. Yeah, what are they gonna
do about this, Homer Simpson, Oh.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Yeah, yeah, let's let's talk about that. Say what, we've
seen a couple of these before. We saw it with SpongeBob. Okay,
that's some of the voice actors. And we've seen it
with the Andy's Room, Chy Story World, where you've got
an alternate broadcast. So in this case, it'll be The
Simpsons with some voiceover work and animation and overlays, and

(17:18):
then some some work from ESPN talent as well, so
it'll be an alternate broadcast. So you'll have Bucking Aikman
on the usual and then I'm not sure who the
voices are doing the broadcast, but I know they've announced
it peer So it's not like two kids.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
So it's not like two kids or something because the
other alternate, the one with the the other one that
they had one kid. One kid is the color Analyst
or something.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
Well, they had the Nickelodeon, you know, the cast as well.
So like they've done various iterations of this with the
SpongeBob one, it was actually the voices of the SpongeBob Show.
And to the broadcasters, is this strictly for kids though?

Speaker 4 (18:03):
We're talking about now ten or something, I.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Mean, Simpsons haven't been for kids at all.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
No, but these other five years. But if you're a
football fan, you're not watching this long? Why not?

Speaker 3 (18:13):
It's it's it's a different take on it. And maybe
you don't like the announcers that are doing the no
no no.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
You're watching the game though, and you're all wrapped up
into it.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Yeah, but I mean you're you're trying like all of this, right,
You're trying to figure out is there a different segmentation? Right?
Why you have the Manning cast? Why you have some
of these different looks, right, the super casts that they
do for playoff games and the college bowl season whatever,
same thing here you're looking at. Well, if we do

(18:42):
animated little Joe Burrows and Ceedee Lambs running around with
you know, the different characters as Springfield in, you know,
is it a different look?

Speaker 5 (18:51):
Like?

Speaker 3 (18:51):
I don't know how many of these you want to
expand to. It's kind of like the europe Yeah, people watch.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
I think they have like a eight hundred thousand and
the Nickelodeon want.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Or no something like that, right, and whatever the Manning
cast is at this point, right, it doesn't have the
same return and adult Manning Cast sure, but like here,
if again it's it's an eight pm Eastern time game,
so East Coast wise kids go to bed and get
ready for school. But still the same idea of if

(19:24):
you can get you know, folks with the humor whatever
those overlays are, and it's the Bangles and the Cowboys.
The original intent with the new flexing of schedules would be, hey,
this team, this game might have been flexed out. I
would argue it wouldn't have because it's still the Cowboys,
and even if they have one win or no wins,
they're still more relevant to talk about than than most others.

(19:48):
But you know, they made this statement, hey, this isn't
flexed out because so much had already been put into
the work of doing these Simpson exact and everything of it.
Who's it for. I don't know. Someone that's looking for
something a little bit different. Maybe they don't care about
the teams as much.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
It's gonna be kids, because anybody that is in the
football is gonna watch the real broadcast.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
I will say this, I really enjoyed the other broadcasts,
did you. Oh yeah, the Andy's Room with the the
Aliens from the Toy Story franchise, slinky Dog is the
first down marker, all of that kind of stuff. I
thought it was a nice, kitchy approach. Did I want
it as a second screen experience to the real one, Yes,

(20:36):
you know you watch them in tandem. Am I going
away from the traditional broadcast? No? But look what we
do for a living. Aren't he right?

Speaker 4 (20:44):
You tested it out, but you wouldn't watch it full time?

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (20:46):
I would have if that was the only broadcast. Yeah,
I'm not turning away. I'm also in Psychopaths. That's sitting
at six o'clock in the morning watching the Jaguars every
week this year in London. Yes, I mean that's not
good for anybody, but I celebrate all to seventy two. However,
I have to consume them. I'm gond.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
Eighty percent of the people listening right now probably said
I had no idea there was an alternative broadcast with
the Simpsons. None. What I have no idea what you're
talking about?

Speaker 3 (21:14):
No? And that's the thing, right. Part of it is
how much you watch the commercials on your broadcast television.
Like for me, I'll be honest with you, and except
for live sporting events, I'm not watching the old four
letter very much, right, right right, I'm certainly not watching
it for somebody's opinion on stuff I get paid to

(21:35):
give one. Why am I watching theirs?

Speaker 4 (21:38):
Right?

Speaker 2 (21:38):
You know?

Speaker 3 (21:39):
So it's that kind of thing. So I wouldn't have
seen it except during say this past Monday Nights game
or the previous Monday Nights game.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
And I saw the commercial, I'm like, wow, I want
to see how many people are going to watch the alternative?

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Well. Frosburg then asked if you'd watched TV in thirty
five years as to why why you were asking what
the Simpsons was.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
I wasn't asking what the Simpsons were. A smart guy.
I wasn't doing that.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
Well though, mean the way you phrased it justin I mean,
did you not think he was asking for an explanation
of what the Simpsons universe was? No, he asked it
as if he doesn't know who the Simpsons are. You mean,
stop it. That's not that I know they were Homer
Bart may mean he dropped her down some you know,
bubblebee Man and and duff Man, and you gotta have

(22:31):
doff Man, gotta have deaf Man. Dump doesn't show up
on this telegast, I'll be sorely disappointed.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Somebody just sent an old picture of me when I
used to do local radio in the Los Angeles. Boy,
you used to have a full head of air.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
I have to do with the Simpsons, oh gosh, animated?

Speaker 4 (22:52):
Yeah exactly.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
I'll decide when we move on from the Simpsons than you.
What if every fan in the crowd is tough Man
duff Man wants to party. My son's super excited for this.
They better not screw it up because he talks about
the London one that they did of toy story, right,
he still watches it. That one was really good, insanely good.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
Yeah, I mean like the first one got good response,
the with the one.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
I'm talking about the London game with the Jags toy
story like Slinky Dog as then was great, Flink was
the was the chain gang. Yeah, and then you had
the the rules analysts that would drop in like all
of that, Like it was always great.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
It was.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
It was a fun experience and if you could sit
there with your kids. Look, it's part of it is
the teachable moment about sports and what do you gotta do?
You gotta relate it to what you what you do.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Yeah, but Justine's got young kids. You don't have young kids.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
I'm still a young kid at heart. Look what I
do for a living? How much? How many times I
gotta tell you this? Justin he's trying to make me
an old man. I don't know. I don't know what
he's doing. I don't know what. And then as soon
as it became a picture about him with hair. He
also thinks that Dolphins are winning Sunday.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Oh gee, I do have them winning.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
So what does he doing? Do you pick them win
every Sunday.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
They're playing the Jets, they'll went out, they'll win out
the rest of Oh my bad, not a win? Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
It is the Jets falling apart. As they are three
and nine Jets against the five and seven Dolphins. You
still got them running out, so they make a playoff run?
Is that what you're doing?

Speaker 4 (24:35):
They won't make the playoffs because the AFC wild Card
is going to be too tough. I think it's pretty
much already been settled. So the Dolphins are gonna miss out.
They're still gonna win the rest of their games. But
but ten and seven is not gonna get him in
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Playoff line of demarcation currently eight and five. You've got
Indianapolis at six and seven, Miami in the nine spot
at five and seven.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
Yes, so they're too far there. It's gonna be too tough.
Plus Denver as an easy schedule, the Chargers, you forget
about the culture right there. So it's it's gonna take
just too much to overtake them.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Yeah, you've got the Jets Houston, San Francisco, Cleveland, and
the Jets again on your schedule there for your Dolphins.
But we mentioned it before. Let's circle back to the
NBA right quick. Lakers one thirty four, one two loss.
Reddick doing more of the handwringing about communication, talking about
the coaches meetings and all of those kind of things. Uh,

(25:33):
squandering thirty eight, ten and eight from Anthony Davis and
Lebron James, who before the game was on the injury
report as to whether he's gonna go. He went a
full forty three minutes playing well. Because they don't have
a bench l nine, ten and eleven.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
The Lakers really have no bench. The' Angelo Russell and
what maybe Max Christie's games. They have no ben they have,
they have no firepower. They have Anthony Davis and Lebron James,
who both had great games. Otherwise they have a bunch.
You know, Talton Connector is a really good rookie. I
like him, but he's not going to be a difference

(26:11):
maker the Lakers, for even even though they've lost what
two and seven in their last nine, they need that
third piece. They need to get somebody for the betterment
from from here on out. It's just not going to
cut it.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Well, but who are you getting You don't have any assets.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
Well that's the problem. You're gonna have to figure out
a way to get him, and with draft picks and
taking salary. Otherwise you're you're gonna be in for a
long haul the rest of the year.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah. No, it's when you've got to rely on Davis
and James to run as many minutes as they do.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
That's not going to be long term success.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
No, right, I mean not even success right now. No,
you're struggling. You're at twelve and eleven. And I remind
folks the Darvin Ham, much maligned Darvin Ham squad was
ahead of this pace. Yeah one year ago.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
You as so you got to get I keep bringing up,
be honest, but you're gonna have to give up a
king's ransom to get the honest there.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Yeah, I mean you have no assets that helps Milwaukee? Now,
dog connect, are you gonna give him? You give him up?

Speaker 4 (27:15):
And what I'd have to give him?

Speaker 3 (27:18):
You gotta make salaries match, right, and Milwaukee's still viable.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Can I give up Bronnie? No, that can't do that.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
I'm sorry you could. I don't know what to get you.
See the derisiveness there again. I always ask, all right,
name me the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth men or the twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth,
and fifteenth that are part of NBA teams. If you
want to make fun of the Bronnie James, go right ahead.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
What on the Lakers? Or what do you say?

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Just in general in the league, when we talk about
the end of benches and how derisive people have been
on the Brownie James, it's like, go and tell me
the last guy on the bench of the other twenty
nine teams.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
Oh, I understand that, but they're still better than Broddy
Briddy doesn't even put up good numbers.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
And but the other guys aren't even playing either.

Speaker 4 (28:05):
Well the other point, Broddy's not putting up good numbers
in the g leigue.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Though, right, But in the end it's inconsequential because they're
all guys that don't get off the bench, right, So
what's the difference. No, he sells more tickets and jerseys
than the other people.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
He just sells more jerseys, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
At the other twenty nine teams when we do all
the handwringing about him. All right, as we continue here,
it's Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Harmon,
Arnie span you're in. We got our Simpsons nod as
we needed to because we needed to teach Arnie a
little bit about the alternate broadcast and the revenue streams

(28:44):
that are trying to be made voiceovers.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
We're all the money's at Mike. You know that, don't you.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Well, I wish I had an agent to get me
some of those voiceover duties. Oh, I mean, you've got
to be ranking it in at this point.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
Oh yeah, because I do a whole bunch of voiceover,
that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Again, what else do you do in Vermont? You don't
shovel snow.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
No, I don't. I just I concentrate on my Sunday show.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Every Sunday night at eight PM along side Chris Plank
and our guy Steve de Sager. That's where you find
our spaniard normally, and we're going to go to Steve
de Sager now for an update from the news desk
of everything going on.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
Save me from this man, Steve de Seger. Nothing's going on,
everything's final. We can update you that the NBA had
two late games. Golden State lost at home and my
goodness did Portland lews at home. They were hosting a
Utah team that was four and seventeen had lost five
straight games. Utah Jazz win one forty one to ninety
nine at Golden State Warriors with twenty two turnovers against

(29:47):
Minnesota Timberwolves one oh seven ninety the final Anthony Edwards
thirty points. Andrew Wiggins of Golden State left with an
ankle injury. The Warriors. Steph Curry was back in the
lineup despite the sore knee, six of seven teen shooting
twenty three points. At San Antonio, Victor Wembinyama was out
again with a bad back. Sacramento won it one forty

(30:07):
to one thirteen over the Spurs. Dementis Simonis twenty two points,
sixteen rebounds. Indiana ended a four game losing streak with
its victory at Chicago one thirty two to one, twenty
three pacers from three point range eighteen for twenty nine
zat Lavine thirty two points in defeat. Atlanta won its
six straight game, beating the Lakers in overtime one thirty four,

(30:28):
one thirty two. Trey Young had a late three pointer.
He finished with thirty one points and twenty assists. Lebron
James a triple double in the loss, including thirty nine points.
Anthony Davis scored thirty eight. Boston's now nineteen to four
after edging Milwaukee won eleven to one oh five thirty
four points for Jason Tatum in the Los Damian Lillard

(30:48):
thirty one points, thirty for Janis Antinacumpo and at Philadelphia.
Philly had been five and fifteen this year, but the
upset Orlando one oh two ninety four. Paul George twenty
one points, nine assists for the Magic, Franz Wagner thirty points.
Men's college hoops Northwestern in overtime beat number nineteen Illinois.
Victories for Indiana and West Virginia. Late night NHL wins

(31:10):
for Minnesota and Vegas. The Mets are signing pitcher Clay
Holmes as a starter. Cleveland is reportedly re signing pitcher
Shane Bieber, who had Tommy John surgery last April. There
were three college football conference championship games. Tonight at number ten,
Boise State Broncos beat number twenty ranked UNLV twenty one
to seven. It was twenty one nothing early fourth quarter.

(31:31):
Ashton Gent Heisman candidate thirty two carries, two hundred nine
yards and a touchdown Boise with one penalty, no turnovers.
Its only loss this year was on a last second
field goal. At number one Oregon twelve and one record
for Boise State, a team that could get a first
round by in the playoff. At number twenty four, Army

(31:52):
the Cadets thirty five fourteen winners over Tulane to take
the American Conference Championship.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
No punts in.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
That game Army with no penalty. In fact, Army led
twenty one nothing late first half. The quarterback for the
Black Knights, Bryson Daily four touchdown runs passing he was
two for two, and Jacksonville State b Western Kentucky fifty
two twelve to win Conference USA. The final playoff bracket
will be announced this Sunday along with the Bowl matchups.
Utah States new coaches Bronco Mendenhall with a six year

(32:21):
contract after one season at New Mexico. He is a
former BYU and Virginia coach.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
Back to you, thanks so much, Steve de Seger at
the News Dynasty. You'll hear him again Sunday night alongside
Arnie and Plank. The Bucks Celtics and like, that's the
season sweep already.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Oh, it's done, geez.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
And it's December sixth. Tell me how that makes any sense.
As much as I lament the NFL scheduling, the NBA
oftentimes makes no sense as well. Fun night all around.
We had Championship Friday being Chip Saturday ahead, as well
as a full slate of NFL games for Week fourteen.
As we continue here Fox Sports Radio, Arnie in for Jason,

(33:10):
we'll make a couple of upset picks and look ahead
at the schedule for Week fourteen. This is Fox Sports
Radio The Jason Smith Show with me.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Welcome back in Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me,
Mike Carmon, Arnie in for Jason the Fellows introducing me
to some new new music on a Friday night as well, Ty,
you want to want to introduce the world to what
I'm listening to.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
I just think it's only right that we don't gate
keep her, Mike, because I'm tired of being like Arnie Spaniard.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
Industri people you know that aren't always a value, you know.
I like that?

Speaker 4 (33:53):
All right? Goodle Riverband?

Speaker 3 (33:55):
Yeah, basically good time for a cool change. That's Amir
el Fickey, big stuff. There you go, So new new
artists on a Friday. Did you get that, Arnie? No,
they're trying to educate you.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
I know that, but you know music's not my thing.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
I mean I do dig the Little Riverband, don't get
me wrong. YEA time for a change exactly.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
I actually helped Prince pick out the title for his
purple reign McFly.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
We got to make fly reference into yeah, leaving no
stone unturned thanks to Alex and justin making a sound
so pretty. Steve de Sager at the news desk. As
we finish here on Fox Sports, trade only appropriate if
we've got you in Arnie that we get into a
couple of upset specials. Yes, my friend, Yes, as we

(34:42):
go through, give me, give me your first one, my
first one, Nate.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
And I think it's finally going to catch up to him.
I know everybody keeps saying, you know, the Chiefs, you know,
the one score thing where they've won their last ten
games when it comes to one score or less. I
think that does catch up to him because they're playing
a good team. They're playing the Chargers who are on
certainly on on a roll right now. They're playing some
good football. The Chiefs are only a four point favorite,

(35:06):
so it wouldn't be that big of an upset. To me,
an upset is three or more, so it does fit
in that category. I think the Chargers win this game,
and finally people say, I told you the Chiefs and
too many ghost games, this is what's gonna happen in
the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Yes, I was actually the prop bet for over unders
on makeouts between Mahomes and the refs.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
Three and a half over other, oh, three and a
half on that. I you know, it's just embarrassing how
many times they get the call. It's just getting disgusting
that the Chiefs seem to get like every critical call
at the end of the game that there happens to be.
I think they got one at the end of the
Las Vegas game too, if I'm correct.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
What do you mean you think, of course they did.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
I'm sure they did.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
Well, that's an interpretive thing as to whether it's a
false start or the illegal shift. Yeah, but they called well,
one guy was motioning it. He was the guy making
the call. Well, he motioned. In the end, they came
to a consensus.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
And that was just blowney, That's what it was.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
See there you go, conspiracy theories all around.

Speaker 4 (36:12):
Where's where's your upset? Special?

Speaker 3 (36:14):
I think as we look at the board, I am
going to get a little creative, as it were. They
are an interesting selection this week, right, No, no, Trent
Williams again on the line obviously, McCaffrey out, Mason out,
Guerendo run. They're still three and a half point home

(36:38):
favorites brown at the first game as a head coach,
So yeah, plus three and a half, I think that's
a solid place to look. I'm going to take the
Browns plus the six and a half or seven against
the Steelers, even coming off the emotion and chaos. That
was Monday Night Football six and a half seven with

(36:58):
that Steeler squad. See, he was a little heavy for me.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Yeah, I don't know if that's one of my favorite.
I'll tell you one that I think will win outright,
Minnesota six point favorite over Atlanta. Big game for Atlanta
obviously fighting for a division Minnesota ten and two. Who
saw that coming?

Speaker 3 (37:15):
You're doing the Kirk Cousins revenge game. Is that what
you're doing?

Speaker 4 (37:18):
I mean, that's another thing. But Atlanta is a damn
good team. I think they pull off the upsete Cousins
is not as good as he was at the beginning
of the year.

Speaker 3 (37:28):
I don't I don't know how good they are. I mean,
like Kirk Cousins has been subpar for three straight weeks
at presence.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
No, yeah, he does.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
About that, we're actually talking about whether Michael Pennix Junior
finishes out the year down the stretch for that.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
I don't think it's been that bad. I don't think
they'll make that move. But he's going to be the
quarterback for next year, there's no doubt about.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Certainly now a question of where Captain Kirk ends up.
But for this one, yeah, I don't. I'm going to
go to I think I like Atlanta. I think six
six or six and a half is a pretty heavy.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
If Cousins on, they'll win.

Speaker 3 (38:03):
They'll win this so well, he hasn't been on for
a while, so you and against Flores's defense, I'll I'll
take the vikings in Sam Darnold to hold serve there.
What about Mac Jones and three and a half against
Tennessee Mac Jones versus Will Levis.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
Oh, what a dog game that is?

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Hey, you know what they're still wagering to be done.
It's still one of two seventy two Spaniard.

Speaker 4 (38:30):
If nobody watches it is a real game, That's what
I want to know. You, Yeah, it does it still
consider a real game.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
I mean, look, overall, the slate is not exactly replete
with heavyweight matchups.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
No, no, it's not. But you know, Jacksonville obviously Trevor
Lawrence out. We'll see what that effects then.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Yeah, you're gonna have shoulder surgery Jones and company. Tennessee's
defense has been pretty strong over the year, and Levi
is another example of a player playing better down the
stretch run. But you know, how about Seattle and Arizona
really quick, just as a game to watch. We saw
this a couple of weeks ago, Seattle sixteen to six

(39:09):
winners for Arizona in what is in odd NFC wes
a game they need at home to hold pat.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
It's a great game. I mean it's two and a half.
As you mentioned, I'll go with Arizona and this because
they're playing at home, but it wouldn't surprise me if
Seattle won this one. At the very end, I could
tell this is going to be a field goal game
when it's all said and done.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
The fun and exciting world of Geno Smith, no question
about it, Larnie, Thanks for sitting in. Thanks you again.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
Thank you was fast.

Speaker 3 (39:38):
Appreciate you at Stinking Genius One where you find him
on Twitter listening Sunday night him alongside Chris Blank eight
o'clock Pacific time as they recap week fourteen. And obviously

world as well coming out of Championships Saturday. So coming
out next we've got our guy, Bernie frad Uh Barny

(40:01):
