Give this part. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight, the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the ti
rag dot com studios Direct dot com.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
I'll help you get there.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiraq dot com is the
way tire buying should be. So lots of controversy coming
off the next to last college football playoff poll because
lots of team seasons are done. Yes, have conference championship

(01:01):
weekend coming up, which could see some teams maneuver around
a little bit. But we know exactly where the committee
thinks some team should be. And it looks like it's
Alabama in and Miami is out. Syracuse killed Miami, The
Jets killed oh God, Syracuse killed Miami.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Oh they killed Miami. They killed them, They killed them.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Alabama is number eleven ahead of Miami, which means that
when it's all said and done, and the teams that
are gonna make it the top five conference winners make
it in, you are going to see Miami get pushed
out now before we get into Alabama and Miami here,
now is the time for politicking. The three weeks ago,

(01:50):
Lane Kiffin saying this was a little too early, and
as Lane Kiffin saw, yeah, you should have just kept
your mouth shut and kept winning games. Now is the
time to politic. And there's no games left you can't play.
Now the time I'm to politic them. So it looks
like Miami's going to be out. And after this was released,
this was released not too long ago from ACC Commissioner
Jim Phillips right, who is the ACC is shocked that

(02:13):
Miami is not in this playoff poll, and the committee
has said that nothing's going to happen and teams aren't
going to have their rankings affected by not playing. So
in other words, Miami and Alabama are going to be
in the same place as that they were because they're
not playing, right now teams can jump over them, but
their ranking is not going to move because they didn't

(02:35):
play a game.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
So, now that being.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Said, this is the quote from AC Commissioner Jim Phillips
that I just love this. Puts out this statement following
the release of the playoff poll, saying quote, as we
look ahead to the final rankings, we hope the committee
will reconsider and put a deserving Miami in the field.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I want to take a look and let's go game
for game. Resume or resume. I'd have another question for
Jim Phillips, how did you get yourself removed from the
hazing uh scandal and lawsuit at Northwestern. I'll hang up
and listen off offline, but back to the back to this. Yeah,
the hey, I would like you to reconsider it's already
been ruled. I really, I strenuously have checked.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
This is like in the movie where in the closed
door room the guy says, I'd like you to reconsider
that decision right now. No, my decision's final. I'd like
you to recon and then he hits him with a
tire iron. Are we reconsidering that?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Nodding to the guy the whole time standing.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
There wiring up barely gets him again? Are you reconsidered? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Can you do the checks with your left hand?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Reconsidering? So that's what it sounds like.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
We hope you will reconsider and put a deserving Miami
in the playoff field and if not, put Florida State. Um, hey,
Florida State. They're tanking for Trevor Lawrence. They're gonna be fun.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Now, you got to drag Trevor Lawrence because he's the
last guy everybody thanked for.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Was Trevor all nothing but great thoughts? Trevor Lawrence. Hopefully
he's doing it, but he's the no, he's the last
guy everybody tanks for. Dragged him? I did, I just stop.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Well, but he does tie into championship week when we
talk about Clemson football, and.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yes, you are jealous of his hair.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
I mean there's no question, right Frostburg think about Smith's
flowing lots well, believe me.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Now, there's some big takeaways from this pole, right. We
see the teams in there, and you see teams like Createla,
Arizona States in, and Indiana is safely in. I mean,
it's a lot of fun. But let's take a look
at at the three big things here Alabama, a three
loss Alabama team being in over a two loss Miami team.
And before the poll came out, uh, Miami head coach

(04:52):
Meyo Crystal Ball said, hey, we won ten games this year.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Not many teams have. Doing the politicking on the South
Florida radio station. Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
And just by the way, a call back to the
Syracuse camp boy, Hey, Mario, I guess you guys couldn't
execute generic things that you need to do in the
second half again Syracuse to win the game. Uh, because
that's all you said at half time was we just
got to execute average stuff.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
And oh, I guess you couldn't execute that.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
But anyway, so because that's what he said, So did
you were you bare chested Ken Harlo drunk?

Speaker 3 (05:22):
He said? What do you do with the sight?

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Well, we just have we just have to execute the
average place. We have to execute the things that are
the garden variety plays. Oh that's all you need to do.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Well, you couldn't do that.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Apparently, I am absolutely okay with Alabama over Miami. Miami's
lost two of their last three games. They lose to Syracuse.
Syracuse is not bad, right, It's a nine win Syracuse team.
But when you look at Miami schedule, where do you
plant in your flag? Because you know this weekend is
all about franslating, where do you plant in your flag?
And say, these are the wins that I can point

(05:52):
to that says we deserve a two loss team deserve
to get in over Alabama. Right, they played one team,
a grand total of one team who has ended up
ranked here, and it was Syracuse and they lost to them.
Right because Syracuse now jumps in, they're ranked at twenty two,
and oh my goodness, I'm so excited I might get
a twenty two tattoo just because they were ranked the
twenty two.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
The only the only team you played against that is
ranked here is Syracuse and you lost to them. Now,
when you when you juxtapose that with Alabama, who's had
a couple of bad losses, I'm not gonna lie like
Alabama's had a couple of bad I lost to Oklahoma
os Olahoma was terrible. Losing to Vanderbilt was like, whoa,
but Vanderbilt. Okay, but I'm not gonna go crazy. But

(06:36):
they still lost three games. Alabama's resume is a hell
of a lot better than anything that Miami has. They
have three wins that Miami does, not right, they have
wins over LSU, Missouri, and Georgia. Those are three big wins. Now,
if you have a three loss team, you have to
have a great resume. I'm not saying I'm just giving

(06:57):
you a buy in, but if you have three losses,
you got to give me at least three wins to
tell me, Okay, you deserve to get in. You played
a tough schedule and you beat some really good teams.
You played three teams again that were ranked and you
beat all of them. Yes, you did lose three games,
but this is not an an This is not an
undefeated Miami team and a three loss Alabama team. It's
a two loss Miami team it's lost two games in

(07:19):
the last three weeks versus a three loss Alabama team
that has three better wins than Miami, maybe more. When
you look at the schedule they may have. They may
have four or five better wins. If you're ranking, Hey,
which teams had the top wins over the course of
the season, Alabama may have five wins that are better
than what Miami has. But by and large, if you
want to go against what we see in the playoff

(07:41):
poll and where teams are at ranked and where Alabama's
got more wins, and when it's what you're talking about,
difference between two and three losses. I am absolutely okay
with Alabama getting in over Miami. Now, for a TV show,
it's not great because Miami is exciting, cam Ward is
phenomenal bb A Heisman Trophy finalists. Most likely Miami's are
great for the television show. They're better than a lot

(08:01):
of these other schools are gonna get it, better than
Arizona State, better than Boys of State. But it's a
TV But it's not quite to the point of the
NCAA tournament where you can say, hey, we're gonna let
these teams in because they're better television show. From a
TV show perspective, it's not as good from a foot
from a football perspective of Alabama getting in and and
and Miami being left out. If that's your choice, Yeah,
I'm okay with Alabama getting in because they've won bigger games,

(08:22):
They've done more than Miami has it.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Yeah, I mean, even though we've kind of had our
laughs at LSU, they're eight and four, there's they were
still relevant, right, they were still a top squad for
much of the season. You go back through and obviously
everybody throws in the ah. You beat Mercer, Okay, you
know that's a traditional thing that they've done all these years.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
I had a big games.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Where it's kind of the throwaway money maker, you know whatever,
throw throw them a bone. All of that to say
that for Miami, you don't have those signature wins and
you're thinking about the TV show. Yeah, you got cam Ward,
that's great, but this still isn't to you, right, This
is still a all right, that's cool. You want to
go into draft nick mode. But tell me there isn't

(09:05):
more to Michael Irvin's on the sideline pumping guys up.
He's not playing in the game. But right, but tell me,
with Alabama and Milrow and all the debates about him
and just general interest slash hate, watching the arrival of
Alabama on the scene, isn't a better win for the
TV show. Even with cam Ward, who's been phenomenal, There's

(09:27):
no question about if we watched him all year and
we're watching you know, the tankathon numbers and who's racing
towards the bottom of the NFL for the opportunity to
draft him or Shade or Sanders or Travis Hunter. All
of that to say that for Alabama, you just go
schedule wise. And yeah, Wisconsin wasn't the same as they

(09:49):
were first Bowl bowless season for them for as long
as I think I've been alive and going on down
the line. But you beat Georgia. A lot of respect
for Georgia, even though Carson saying he doesn't watch football
has everybody kind of raising an eyebrows. That's kind of concerning,
I think a little bit. I get distancing yourself from

(10:10):
the game at all, But you know, the other is
not everything. Not every conference is created equal, and we
know that. Reputation wise, you know SEC, you're always going
to get the benefit of the doubt, but legitimately, trying
to navigate that schedule is going to be a lot
harder and that's baked into the cake. And you don't

(10:30):
have to like it, right you want to pump your
chest out and say, hey, I'm our conference. We had
to navigate the hardest schedule and we did our job. Winner, No,
you didn't. If you take care of business against Syracuse game,
you're a favorite on not a huge favorite, but a favorite.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Nonetheless, don't blow a twenty one nothing lead. That's it.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Right, You went and you you raced out to the
big lead like you were defending that turf for at
all costs, and you went and gave that game away,
and you open the door.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Never let it go to the judges. That's really all
this comes back to. If you're one loss, we're not
having this discussion.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Yeah you're in.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
You stay and look, and let's be honest when you
talk about the hierarchy of the conferences, right, the five
conferences if you want to, because you really have to
go and say what kind of schedule did they play?
Because that's part of it. You can argue, but the
SEC and the Big Ten are the top two conference
of college, Well, I don't think anybody's gonna argue that.
Then the next best conference on a tier by itself

(11:32):
is the ACC. Then a little bit below that is
the Big twelve, and then you have the Mountain West.
Like you have two, you have two conferences that are
far and away better than the bottom three. That the
difference between the Big Ten and the SEC and the
other three is way more than difference the other three
teams have the other three compents out between them, right,
So you're saying ACC is third, but they're a distant

(11:54):
third to these other two conferences. So when you're Miami
and this is a schedule you're playing, Yeah, look Florida State,
Florida State stings, your big wins, those teams weren't any
good way.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
Did you think that here would suddenly flip like fifteen guys,
what the hell's going on? I want to know what
the registers look like and what's going on here.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
People are like, wait, my godly Nape are fired in October. No, no, no,
he's still a coach.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
Now, he's the wizard, he's the master of nil.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
I mean, you have to.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Understand that that there's there is a hierarchy to the conferences,
and that that's what it is. And so if you're Miami,
you can't just say all right, if in a toss
up argument, because you're gonna lose a toss up argument.
You need to have the better argument because that's got
to overcome the fact that, hey, this team's got the
better resume.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
And when it's that close.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
And Alabama's got the better resume, really, there's nothing I
can say that I can say, Boy, Miami's getting screwed
and getting left out because of the rules. Now, are
they one of the top twelve teams fifteen teams in
the country. Yeah, but they're not going to get in
because of the rules of the different conferences getting teams
into go play. But where it is right now, you know,
I absolutely understand why they're out and why Alabama's in.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Well, we had a lot of questions about them throughout
the year, right, a couple of officiating questions and end
of game situations narrow escape, So it was always the
how great are they? And then you lose two of
three down the stretch, you open the door for Alabama
and walked through the door and they.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Did exit out.

Speaker 1 (13:20):

Speaker 3 (14:42):
And a little bit more on.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
The controversy surrounding the college football playoff poll before we
get to a big story out of baseball. Look, we
addressed a few minutes ago the scenario Alabama being eleventh,
Miami being twelfth, meaning when the final poll comes out
a week from now, if neither team moves and the
committee has already said neither Alabama nor Miami is going

(15:08):
to see their ranking affected, that Miami is going to
be out of the playoffs. I want to recount. So well,
that's what the ACC wants. How dare you leave this too?
You should have beat Syracuse, should have beat serious to Syracuse.
You're disqualified, Syracuse. You would not quality show show. You know, honestly,
you know what I always say about the AEC referees,
And I'm like, in somehow in the second half, Syracuse

(15:31):
is going to have bad penalties called against them, and
they're nope, Nope, Syracuse is able to win. And I
was stunned. I was absolutely stunned. Touchdowns weren't called back,
weren't Hey. I told you about ACC refs, man, I
told you how bad ACC refs are, and how the
new the new ACC teams don't nearly get officiated in

(15:52):
basketball and in football, like the heritage ACC teams. They're angels,
chief they don't. Oh well, I think they're the same people,
the same one Saturday basketball. No, I just mean I
just mean in general, but specifically in football, like the
new these new teams that will come into the ACC
into our conference.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Welcome to the party. But they've been there for ten
years now, I think ten years.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
But that's the first part of the controversy that we've
seen because now we're looking at teams and where they're
going to slot in. And I can already tell you
with now a month of college football playoff polls out
and what people have said, what coaches are talking about,
what teams want to want to focus on, I can
tell you two big changes that will be coming to

(16:40):
the college football Playoff, probably for next year, because like
this is college football, right, you could make changes every
five ten year. Listen, we're college football. We throw stuff
up at the wall and see what sticks. So I
would say for next year, here's the first one. You
were going to see that the conference champions will qualify

(17:03):
for the playoff, like they'll get automatic berths into the playoff.
But we're not going to get the top four conference
champions being the top four seeds. Because to see a
team like Boise State, which could wind up being a
four seed because they decided, Hey, the top four conference
winners are going to be the top four seeds. No,
that's not right Poise State. I get Yes, they win

(17:23):
their conference, they should be in, but Poise State's not
nearly as good. Didn't do nearly as what other teams
have done over the course of a year to deserve
a top four seed, and in a sport that's all
about rankings and want to put in the top teams
where they are. That's the first change it's going to
be made. Okay, you're Boise State, you're in, but we
are going to change this because you're basically winning a

(17:44):
mid major conference and getting a really top seed. It's
like if the if, like the NCAA Basketball Tournament Committee
said hey, we're gonna put these We're gonna put a
couple of mid major teams in, but just because they won,
they're gonna be one seats. Wait wait what yeah, no, no, no, no,
but sorry, they're gonna be one seats. But what about
Houston and Gonzaga. No, no, we're making them a one

(18:06):
seed because they won their They went thirty to oh
and won their conference. So that's the first change it's
gonna happen. You're gonna see they'll get in. But the
but the seeding is gonna go. Who do we think
are the top four teams overall in college football? And
that's who's gonna get your first round by.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
In the interim Boise State four point favorites Friday night
against UNLV fifty six and a half. You're total can't
wait to see it. We get to watch gen T,
Syracuse bet UNLV.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Just saying I'm just saying playoff, just saying, may the
quarterback walked away? I mean, we're just beaten. We're just
beaten Stanford. We gonna be in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
We just said I got a colorless leather jacketman by
and walked off.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
No, I think you're right.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
You know, when we we get down to it, if
you're gonna have any level of consistency, it's.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
The rankings are what they are right over the course
of the season.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
To suddenly say we've got to shuffle up based on
winning a conference again, we've You've stipulated all the way through.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Conferences are not created equal. There is weight, whatever it is.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Real imagine algorithm, strengths of schedule, all of that that
we put in to the computer to spit out a result,
as well as the eye test that it comes down
to that, right, James Franklin talking about it, you know
the other day. Hey, our threes and fours get in,
they want to play, and don't forget strength of schedule
slash margin of victory is going to be a consideration. Well,

(19:29):
look where they're at. They're a top four team that
isn't going to get the benefit of that. Right, You'll
get to play a home playoff game, great, but you're
not getting you know, the buy, You're you're not even
in consideration for it when it you know when when
you're going down. So we'll have the Big ten title game.
So yeah, you could beat Oregon and give yourself that chance,

(19:52):
but you got to win another game, right and for
the committee that that's the heart part. You had a
number ten team, it could be lower, right, and when
what's what's Arizona State?

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Right?

Speaker 4 (20:06):
I mean what are they fifteen or sixteen going up
against Iowa State to where this really could change itself
as well. Yeah, Penn State Oregon Oregon three and a
half point favorites forty nine and a half total, So
Penn State can win their way in.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
But the idea to all the same of you could
end up being.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
A top four team in terms of how we would
rank things, but still find yourself on the way out.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
So that's the first one.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
The second one and this is you know, Lane Kiffin
kind of sounded the charge on this a few weeks ago,
and I understand, and you kind of have to do this.
There's gonna be a little wrinkle to it. You're gonna
have to allow the teams that make the conference championship
in the top three conferences into the playoff, right and

(20:52):
by that I mean those six yds, SEC and ACC
because I'm sorry, Big twelve and Mountain West they're a
mid major programs. The Big twelve is now a mid
major program because of the defections and who they have there.
You're not nearly playing at the level that the other
ones are. ACC they're the like I said, they're the
third team. But clearly, if you're talking about a Big

(21:12):
three in college football, they're there.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
They're the third conference.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
You need to do that because of this situation that
could unfold Right now. SMU is ranked eighth overall. They
play Clemson for the ACC title. Now likely SMU is
gonna win. They're a better team than Clemson, but hey,
k Clubnick's gotten hot over the course of the past
few weeks, and maybe Clemson wins this game. Now SMU wins,
everything is fine. Clemson wins, Clemson makes the playoff. SMU

(21:39):
now is a two loss team that goes from eighth,
and suddenly it's going to be a conversation of do
you take this two loss SMU team over a three
loss Alabama team? Now, let's just let's just sell Jason,
you just said a few minutes ago you would take
the three loss Alabama team over a two loss Miami team.
I don't think SMU is that great, but you're talking

(22:02):
about a team getting penalized because they achieved higher than
Alabama by making it to their conference championship game, but
they lose. So because they played that extra game and
they happen to lose it, they could get knocked out
of the playoff entirely. And that's not right. Because Alabama
doesn't play, then they're sitting there at number eleven. But
that's gonna be the choice. And what do you think

(22:23):
the playoff committee is going to say? Boy, Alabama here,
SMU here, who do we take? It's really not fair
that a team can play in the conference championship game
and lose and get knocked out because of it. So
you're gonna see some kind of change where next year, Okay,
if you make it in, you're getting into the playoff
and then you're gonna play the conference championship for the
top seeds, and you know you wind up getting seated lower.

(22:45):
So you want to win that game because you want
to potentially get a get a buy or be one
of the top four seeds or host a game, uh,
within the first round. But you're gonna have to let
those teams in because this is something that's just going
to continue to come up because of the way college
football is. There's gonna be every year where where you're
gonna see a really good team with two losses, but
because they missing a tiebreaker on their side of the conference,

(23:08):
they don't make it to the conference championship game. Somebody
else does and because they don't play another game, they're
stuck and these other two teams are continuing to play.
So that that's another change and I see absolutely has
to come. Now maybe it comes to the point of
we expand a sixteen times that if you have to
find a way to get those those teams from the

(23:28):
Big Ten, the SEC, and the ACC. If they make
it to their conference championship, they have to qualify. They
that that's an automatic bid into the play So.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Your last thought, fix the glitch automatically they fix there.
It's more TV revenue. Wait, we'll expand it and it
solves all these issues. By the way, this could have
Eric Dickerson, our guy, getting screwed twice in a matter
of a couple of weeks. Right, maybe they get left
out of the playoff and then you're predicting Sakuon Barkley rushes.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Past his rushing record, so like it could just be a.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
Bad cup the weeks there. The other wrinkle to all
this is what do you do with Notre Dame. Are
they able to argue them their way in or is
Rubbert finally have to meet the road when it comes
to their ability to get an automatic buy, you know,
to get a buy as opposed to what it is
now where it's got to be a count conference title holder.
Do they have enough clout where they can rise back

(24:20):
up and say, hey, we're bleeping Notre Dame man, we
can count and get there because they're sitting at that
cusp as well. But your point about SMU and some
of these other squads. We'll be talking about it when
it comes to that Arizona State Iowa State game. And
watching how these things play out, I think the easy
answers they'll they'll be expansion. They may do the sub

(24:44):
subplot of it and do that and build that in
of all, right, these are automatic going forward because I
think Kiffin was right, and you start getting into questions
of would it be better for us?

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Right, we talked with Peach Futech.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
Earlier in the show kind of talking about Ohio State
not playing in this game?

Speaker 3 (25:03):
Is that better?

Speaker 4 (25:04):
Because now you got two weeks to regroup, get healthy,
get right and and re you know, get past the
angst and anger of this lost to Michigan and reset
yourself for what's ahead. Is that better than playing in
a Big Ten title? Well, let's see, here's here's here's
what it's gonna happen for Notre Dame. I guarantee you

(25:24):
is that it's gonna When did we get the twelve
team playoff like we saw last year? The chaos of
how many teams got left out? Okay, we have to
have the playoff.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Notre Dame will join a conference the year they get
left out of the playoff because they didn't play in
a conference championship game. Like if they if they're sitting around,
like say, we have twelve teams in and Notre Dame
is safely in at number four, right, well, it's like okay,
so and they're probably gonna host the game. I'll probably
gonna buy. But let's say they come in at number

(25:54):
ten or eleven. Right, Let's say they're sitting around number
ten or eleven and a couple and a team wins
in their conference championship game to vault ahead of them,
and that knocks them out of the playoff. That next year,
Notre Dame will say, hey, we're at the table ready
to join. Like all they have to do is get
left out once and they realize it's not worth it.
We should now join a conference. Like for everybody thinks

(26:16):
Notre Dame's always going to be independent, nothing lasts forever,
and Notre Dame's gonna have a run of one hundred
years of a great independent. And then eventually, because the
college football moves so fast, the year they get left
out of the playoff, they will join the Big Ten
or the SEC or whoever's whatever the version of it
it is. They will join right away so they can
make sure that we don't get left out. They will

(26:36):
join a conference, but they're gonna have to get screwed first,
because so far being Notre Dame has been great, right,
the TV contract getting all the love because you play
big games every year, You play USC every year, used
to play Michigan every year. You know, you play both
service academies and it's a big deal. And this year
was a bigger deal because they were both ranked. So
it's been good to be Notre Dame. The first time

(26:58):
they get screwed, they'll join conference, but it won't happen
until then.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
Big Den's been waiting for them for a very long time.
As it's currently projected, you would have Notre Dame Alabama
in the first round. Talk about ratings, Binanza.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Remember.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
Television show.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
He's on at a show. Yeah, when's USC playing? They play
opening week, they play the first game. Yeah, nor Moss
is gonna throw for seven hundred yards from the portal.
He's gonna throw for seven hundred yards. He can do
it like doctor Strange through the portal exit out bout
of Fresco exit, swollen dump, the Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. Now to a guy who

(27:38):
throws for seven hundred yards every Sunday. It's specially delivery.
Steve the Sager, who's got what's trending in the wide
world of sports.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
And then I wake up onto the NBA. We had
late game wins at home for Sacramento and the Clippers Phoenix,
as well at Denver, the Nuggets beat Golden State send
him to a fifth straight loss. One nineteen one fifteen.
Nicola Jokich thirty eight points at Dallas, a fifth straight
win for the MAVs, thirty seven points for Luca Donsis
and a victory over Memphis one twenty one, one sixteen.

(28:04):
Memphis had won six in a row. Oklahoma City sent
Utah to a fifth straight loss, one thirty three to
one oh six. The Jazz committed twenty nine turnovers. Toronto
and New York with home wins, but not Charlotte. Philadelphia
win it and beat the Hornets one ten one oh four.
Charlotte has lost six in a row. Paul George for
Philly twenty nine points, eight assists. Milwaukee won at seventh straight,

(28:27):
dominating at Detroit Cleveland all over Washington. The Wizards have
lost fifteen in a row. This was the final night
of group play for the NBA Cup Men's college basketball.
Clemson at home up set Number four Kentucky seventy to
sixty six Number three Tennessee all over Syracuse ninety six seventy.
Michigan won at number eleven Wisconsin sixty seven sixty four,

(28:48):
and at Villanova Wildcats upset Number fourteen Cincinnati sixty eight
to sixty. To college football, Oregon is still number one
in the new playoff rankings. Texas is now number two,
Penn State number three, Notre Dame is number four. Ohio
State fell to six Alabama's number eleven, so Obama could
be the last team in the final playoff bracket will

(29:08):
be announced this Sunday and the bowl matchups a reminder
this Friday night on Fox TV number ten, Boise State
host number twenty UNLV in the Mountain West Championship game.
Michigan fired offensive coordinator Kurt Campbell. The Houston Texans did
get a suspension today for a linebacker, as He's Al
Shire a three game suspension for the illegal hit last

(29:29):
weekend on Jacksonville. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the fights afterwards.
The Eagles tight end Dallas Goddard is week to week
with a knee injury. He's not expected to play this weekend.
According to NFL Network, Steelers linebacker Alex high Smith is
due to return this Sunday after an ankle injury. Pittsburgh
wide receiver Calvin Austin is in concussion protocol. Commander's defensive
back Marshawn Lattimore is due to return after their bye

(29:51):
week after a hamstring injury. Thursday night, Green Bay at Detroit.
Packers running back Josh Jacobs was limited in practiced today
with a CAF injury. Mike Holmgren is the Pro Football
Hall of Fame's coaching finalists this year, and his former
Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharp is a seniors finalist. The
Red Sox are signing reliever Eraaldus Chapman, who turns thirty

(30:13):
seven in February. In late night NHL Action, Vegas had
almost one nothing winner over Edmonton in a game that
featured no penalties overtime wins for Minnesota, San Jose and Pittsburgh.
Colorado trailed four nothing after the first twelve minutes and
still won five to four at Buffalo, the sabers first
ever home loss after leading the game by four. US

(30:33):
Women's Soccer won two to one at the Netherlands in
its final exhibition of the year, despite being outshot twenty
two to five for goalkeeper a listen there. This was
the end of her eleven year international career. She was
on three World Cup squads and three Olympic teams.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Doesn't want to stay outshot twenty two to five. Just
want to stay? Two World Cups? Looking fund yourself for
you don't want to stay. You're sure you don't want
to stay.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Not on the US team.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
She's still supposed to play in the Women's League next Sea.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Separate thing. Boy.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
She won that game we mentioned earlier in the show.
The US was completely outclassed in the first half and
somehow well in own goal help but somehow end.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
Up winning this down. Oh yeah. They are head to
head against the Netherlands over.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
The years nine and one, with two draws, and the.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Lone loss was the first time they ever played.

Speaker 5 (31:20):
Them nineteen ninety one.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live from the
Tirack dot Com Studios.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Coming up next to us.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
We'll have the latest on that big story out of
Major League Baseball and why Batman is suddenly the biggest
story in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Jason and Mike Fox I'm Batman.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. We're gonna get to the NFL in
Batman coming up in a couple of minutes. But this
late breaking story out of me your League Baseball. Supposedly,
according to many sources, Juan Soto is eliminating team as

(32:08):
he gets close to make his decision. It could happen
as soon as the end of this week for the
beginning of Winter meetings, or at the latest at the
end of the Winter meetings, which would be next Thursday.
Winter meetings begin on Sunday. According to all reports, the
Mets and the Yankees are still the two front runners. Yeah,
other teams in there. The Red Sox are in there,

(32:29):
the Blue Jays are in there. Dodgers kind of a
long shot.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
I mean, he did add that love letter to the
David or tees Era Red Sox squads.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah, but I will tell you this. I'll go Bill Maher.
I don't know it for a fact, I just know
it's true. I guarantee you there has been a message
sent to Scott Boris. Dude, if if you don't have
a decision early, we're dropping out. We're moving on. We're
not gonna sit here and have you hold us hotches
over the entire winter for one while. You do interviews

(33:01):
and sit here and talk about how much he's worth,
and you go to one team and then come back
and say the money is over here. All the offers,
according to reportsmen over six hundred million dollars, and team
sent Boris a message last year which borders on collusion
when his four big free agents were all unsigned going
into spring training. It's we are sick of you trying

(33:22):
to push the market on us, and we go in
for one of your guys and you back out and
you send them someplace else. We are going to be
calling the shots here, even though you have the guy
who is the free agent of all free agents and
Juan Soto. If you don't have a decisions soon, we're
backing out because we're moving on. We're gonna do other things.
We're gonna make other moves of the deadline. We're gonna
during the winter meetings, and we are gonna go on.

(33:44):
And I don't care. So I guarantee you that's part
of what's going on, because there's no way Scott Boris
wants to have the end of this story getting summed
up so quickly. So I would without knowing it for
a fact, I just know it's true.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Daddy.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Listen, dude, if you don't have this going on, we're
dropping out. And I'm sure Mets, Yankees, all the teams
are like, we're not doing this because only one of
us is going to get them, and if we're one
of four teams or five teams, we have a twenty
percent chance. I don't like it. So we're gonna move
on to other guys there have a better chance of
going to get and go and spend money to go
pick up.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
Well, look at the fact that Blake Snell was already
doing a press conference and doing interviews on AM five
seventy LA Sports with our guy pet Dress and Kate
earlier today. Is a Boris client, Right, You watch what
happened last year and now you sign a long term deal.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
You know how I feel.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
And we had We've had ample discussions with John Palmer,
Rossi and other baseball luminaries about Snell and long term deals,
et cetera. But push that aside for the moment that's done.
It's December third where we are.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
I think Boris Mike is still sitting at that table
leading that for somebody to ask him questions.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
Good, very much.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
So, Hey, I've got binders of stuff. What else you
want to know?

Speaker 3 (34:57):
And look, Jason, you can tell your dad the yank.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, I'll tell my dad that I don't love that. Hey, Dad,
I hear the Yankees are out what it's all our bullpens?
Well anyway, Hey, look, I'll just say this because this
is how I believe. If the Mets get him, great,
If your team gets him great. If you don't get him,
it's not that big a deal. You'll spend money and
go someplace else because you're gonna be nervous about being
locked into a guy for six hundred million dollars, are

(35:23):
you do? You know you're gonna get the same effort.
You're gonna get that super duper star once the guy
signs for six hundred million dollars. And if the guy's
so great, he's twenty six years old, why is he
gonna be on his fourth team? Other teams could have
given him money, could have stop him from getting to
free agency, could have given him three hundred four hundred
million dollars and it didn't happen. Right, I realize I'm
getting into a bit of a Hey how come nobody

(35:45):
went to bow Callahan's birthday party?

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Take?

Speaker 1 (35:47):
But still there's questions out there just to make you
understand that if your team gets him, great, he's a
great player, man. But if it doesn't, it's not the
end of the world. It's not like, oh, we missed
out on jan soda. Miss out on one soda. You'll
go get other guys and you won't wake up every
day nervous that you're six hundred million dollar man, there's
something up with him. It's great production, great player. I mean,

(36:08):
stipulate all that, but what's the opportunity cost? And in
terms of making that money back? Whatever Boris puts in
the the binders about parking revenues and game day sales, Hey,
you're going to consume an extra eighteen ounces of soda.

Speaker 3 (36:25):
Or whatever, else that we get to charge up.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
That's all fine and good, but that's a pretty hefty
investment as opposed to getting help for your dad's bullpen,
getting another starter, getting another outfielder, retaining one or two
other guys that might be coming up on their deals,
and maybe getting ahead of the curve where you do
the good will of you get a little bit of
a discount paying him a year early versus him.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
Look, I love the fact that he was still sitting.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
There in the dugout as the Dodgers were celebrating and
everything else.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
You know, I'd showed, you know something, something changed within him.
He was waiting for Fat Joe's encore. The seasons could
have done that.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
It's about me now paid now, Yeah, and the camera's
on him and whatever else. But to the point of,
it's not like you can say we're building out an
international marketplace that's paying his salary like you did with
Yamamoto and Shoe a Otani with the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
If you get him, great, If not, it's okays. But
speaking about getting something, Yeah, the new Hard Knocks aired tonight,
the in season AFC North Hard Knocks, and already we've
gotten better stuff that we had the entire last off
season with the Bears, which doesn't seem possible because of
the tire fire. The Bears are but habit hard Knocks,
don't You didn't even hear any cursing. So what they

(37:43):
showed a touchdown?

Speaker 3 (37:44):
But here we are. Uh So.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
About a month ago, Warner Brothers made available ten batmobiles
that were made for Batman. They're not street legal, but
they're made with all the specifications and you could buy
one for three million dollars.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
I told you to go ask j J. Wibbroms, send
the money and we'd pay him back.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
And I get three millions, I can buy the Batmobile.
So there are ten batmobiles you could buy. We know
who has bought one of them because we found out
tonight on Hard Knocks when Joe Burrow had this conversation
with Jamar Chase.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
I called you up. Did you get yet?

Speaker 1 (38:20):
Though?

Speaker 2 (38:21):
I don't get it.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
For like a year, but I'm on it great.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
I think gonna be crazy, gonna be crazy. You gotta
go to the.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Advances Batman we had, Yes, I think all I think I.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Gotta go all in and go for it like an
expensive battle.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
This suit Joe Burrow bought the Batmobile for three million dollars.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
He's gonna be wearing the cowl and riding around.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
He's got to show up to a game in the
Batmobile dressed like Batman. Chase has to now dress up
like Robins night Wing. I don't Number one doesn't dress
up as Robin.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
Yeah, I don't. I don't. I don't think anybody wants
to dress up as he's gotta. He's gonna get giant
page check. You can buy his own. I don't think anybody.
But either way, we know what wanted. Were there and
Joe done.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
Joe Burrow's Batman. Okay, now we know Joe Burrow Man.
He shows up and when he throws a touchdown, he's
got to put like the pointy ears up and do
like the Batman celebration?

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Could he do the bat two seat?

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Can you just imagine pulling up outside and here's arrival
at the game today, Joe Burrow pulling up in a Batmo.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Be straight out of Boogie Knights, right the hero. I'll
tell you that would be outstanding. Congratulates that rock star.
That was rock star.

Speaker 1 (39:40):
Now Joe Burrow's Batman, that's his nigga. His whole offensive
line Twitter. And how about a Fresco at swelling dome
from Mike com Jason coming up next to my buddy
Ben mallor this is Fox nix yo
