Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight, the Jason Smith Show
with my bass friend Mike Harmon, live from the ti
rack dot com studios. Tirec dot com will help you
get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free roadhaz
protection over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com is
(00:49):
the way tire buying should be. And tonight we saw
an absolute thriller, one of those old school MLB playoff
games like and we see a lot of those so far,
and I kind of dig that in a in an
era now where it's about bullpen management and and trying
to escape, we have seen so many of these great
(01:10):
too nothing to one pitching duels and it's it's it's
kind of like the games, and especially with most of
them being on during the day. It's kind of it
kind of reminds me of, look, this is why baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
It takes me back to when I was a kid
running home from school at the end of the day
because the playoff game was on that you know, the
Orioles and the Angels were on at four o'clock and
you had to run home to see it. And you know,
you said, the Angels, Yeah, well the Angels were good Man.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Early eight times.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, they were good Man does lest.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, sure, Gary Pettis, Brian Downing, oh yeah. And and
it's it's with all the playoff games on during the day. Basically, again,
what baseball decided it's gonna play a bunch of games
during the day. You know, you don't have to you
can play. Nah, We're just gonna do it during the day.
It's more fun. Uh So it's a it's a real
fun throwback to see. And we had one of those
(02:03):
games tonight again. You Darvish pitched a hell of the
game for the Padres. He made two mistakes. Right, first
pitch to Keik Hernandez was too much of a Hey,
if he throws me a fastball over the heart of
the plate. First pitch, I'm taking him downtown. That's exactly
what he did to Oscar Hernandez Homers, and that was
enough because the Padres were dead from the neck up
the last two games batting. They had a bad approach
(02:24):
to hitting. The last couple of games, they batted like
they had given up. It's so incredibly embarrassing for the
Padres to be worked by thirteen straight Dodger pitchers from
the first inning of Game one of Game four all
the way through Game five and the Dodgers win. And
here they are now with a vibe again as they
are hosting Game one of the NLCS.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Well, I'll tell you it was just crazy convergence right
of the way. The timing of all this comes down
and Dodger Land and a big expressway mess to trying
to get to the game. So you saw it phill
up as the game got underway. But you know, just
(03:06):
a quick side note talk to my mom, Like right
before first pitch, I was finishing walking the dog, getting
ready for the show, and they had just had their
power restored down in Florida. So a big shout out
to all the responders and people work in the overtime.
They were estimated Tuesday. They got it back in for
thirty our time on a Friday night. So I'm like, hey,
(03:30):
you're gonna watch baseball game.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
She goes, I haven't slept in two days with.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
News heavy wins and waiting on reports of anything, and
now we're just we just got power back.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I'm going to bed.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
So she'll be excited that, you know, she didn't miss
a lot of runs because she loves, you know, the
barrage of scoring. It's like that game was boring. Is
exactly what I'll hear from her. But just the craziness
right of offense early in this series and then operations
shut down by this bullpen and the Padres bats going silent,
(04:07):
Dave Roberts, no matter who he brought in scoreless, and
the impatience of the Padre hitters was the thing that
stood out to me down the stretch. You needed one
guy to get on base, one bleeping guy. You have
a good at bat instead, and nope, I'm gonna play
hero ball. Yeah, and just out of sorts, and and
(04:27):
just one after another, uh setting him down, even though
they'd familiarity normally brings chaos. Not not here, Padres with
no patience, Jason. And we see the series set up
for the Dodgers Mets.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Well, and I'll say this right because you know tonight,
watching the way this game shook out, what did I
say last night? Hey, yeah, give me the Dodgers. Then
what did I say in the seventh inning? I don't
know that I want the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Now.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
The Dodgers clearly looked like they want it way more
than the Podres do. But I'm gonna be honest with you, Okay,
there is nothing. And usually when you see a situation
like this, and here's the Mets, who are the number
six team and they've been in a magical run. And
here are the Dodgers, who are the best team in
the National League all year, and you see their record
and they're seeding in the playoff that.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I see the Dodgers. They're talking a lot right now.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Keik Hernandez had the big moment where he cursed on
National TV earlier tonight. You'll hear that again in a
few minutes where he was asked, what's the difference in
these Dodger teams compared to the other ones?
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, we don't give.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
A blank Max Munsey in the locker room saying, eighty
percent of you blankers thought we were gonna lose. Yeah,
the Dodgers have a vibe. Well, you know what, Mets
got a vibe to. All right, Mets got a vibe too.
I'm not coming into this thinking, oh man, how are
we gonna compete. I'm coming in here thinking this is
toe to toe because there's nothing you're gonna throw at
me and throw at the Mets they haven't seen in
(05:48):
the last ten days. What are you gonna throw at them?
What are you gonna possibly give them? Ooh, but Otani?
You know what, we just had an entire series with
the guy that's been the best player in the National
League for the past decade.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Guess what.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
They went home in four games. Oh, the Dodgers' bullpen
is good.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Guess what.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
We just had the best bullpen in the National League
and the best closer in the National League. Guess what.
Both those teams are home now. Okay, yeah, I'm feeling
pretty good. I'm feeling good. The starting pitchers that the
Mets have the advantage in the starting pitching department because
they do. Yamamoto was really good tonight, but when's he
gonna be able to pitch again? How many things is
he gonna be able to go? Jack Flaherty has been
a good pitcher. Has he been great? No, but he's
(06:24):
been really good. And I love Flaherty. I love the
moxie he brings. He's got that little bit something that
oof and have toughness. That's really really good.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
I dig that. Oh but what about the lineup?
Speaker 1 (06:34):
What about the top heavy Dodgers lineup, Mets out of
top heavy Phillies lineup. There's nothing you're gonna throw at
me where suddenly it's the big bad Dodgers. This is
we're going in toe to toe and it's gonna be
a war, I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
And if the Mets.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Take game one, because this is one of those series
where boy, the Mets take Game one, that's gonna be it.
But if the Met I'll tell you sometimes it's just
game one. It's just this Mets take Game one, that's it.
And the Dodgers take Game one, that's gonna make me
really nervous because going back home down to zip I
know it's hey, series doesn't really start to you lose
on your home field. Yeah, but the other team is
up two games to none. It's a really it's a
(07:09):
it's a really big advacas. It blowing off that we
lost the first two games on the road. Yeah, you
normally lose that series, and that you normally lose that series,
telling you Game one is gonna be huge, it's gonna
be a huge opening. The Mets have the pitching lineup
how they want it to be. The Dodgers only somewhat
have it what they want it to be. I'm ready
for this, man. This is toe to toe. This is
not all Hey, the big bad No, this is hey,
(07:31):
you're at that point where this is like Rocky and
Apollo back and forth at each other. Right, it's the
Dodgers vibe and it's Decoy, and it's Grimace, and it's
hawk Tua, and it's and it's decoy, and it's and
it and and it's Frank the Tank and it's decoy. Right, like,
this is the series now, it is toe to toe.
This is I am not coming in here as a
oh hey, if we win, if the Mets win, it's
(07:53):
a big it's what a great run?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
No, no, no, I'm saying this could be. This is
a world series year. Man. This is the final four.
It's time to go.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Let's see you just named all your luminaries, hawk To, uh,
Frank the tank, and Grimis.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Yeah. Just think about that. That that's the mets he
that's the mets here.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Who are the three people most responsible besides Lindor for
this season? Well, Grimace and uh hawk To It definitely
won two like the winning percentage after Grimmason hawk to
a girl, I mean through the roof like you can't
beat them, you can't beat like.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
No. She she inspired America, That's no question about it.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Uh, and girl inspired tag inspire America.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Well, you know, everybody needs a hero and then we
look for what we need in the moment.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Then well let's call it what it is. Uh, it's
save Harbor. Uh look decoy. The celebration would show him
going around. That's great. Uh, you also have Rob Lowe
and all those luminaries that you saw. I still want
to know the conversations Brad Pitt and Flee were having,
because I mean, Brad Pitt, tell me, tell me he
wasn't going back into moneyball and talking about Yeah, you know,
I played a guy who had to do the kind
(09:00):
of stuff with his bullfen playing guy did just this
kind of thing. Didn't have a billion dollar payroll. But
boy how he had to remember Chad Bradford. Hey Fleet
remember him?
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, So Bradford's defect is he throws funny. Yeah. No, no,
sure to.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Go through all of those things. You know, we found Pratt,
So go through all of those things. But the curiosity
and we buried the lead because this is the bigger
point for sports talk radio and television. Who was Key
k Hernandez talking about when he said we don't blank
and care? Who was too emotionally uptight in past Dodger
(09:40):
runs that led them to a defeat time and again?
Who is it? Who is it? Dodger Nation? Let me
know at Swollen Dome at how about a presco.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
I think what kek hernanders is trying to say is
that they don't care.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Hey, what a bad team. They don't care about. They
don't care to win.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Let let's bring you that audio. Let's just so you
can hear it. This audio. This is following the Dodgers
win tonight. Ke k Hernandez, the big hero, had the
big home run, the only run the Dodgers would need,
and he does the on field interview with Ken Rosenthal
following the game, and he's asked, what me you know
this is your eighth time now in the playoffs with
the Dodgers. Look, every team has a player like keyk Hernandez.
(10:18):
He doesn't play every day, but boy the spark plug.
When he plays, he always seems to play well. He
left the team, he came back and he's the same
guy he was when he left. And everybody has a
guy like this, and the Dodgers guy's Key k Hernandez.
And here he was on the field being asked what
the difference is in the Dodger team. You're gonna hear
(10:39):
what was said, except imagine it without the bleep.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Take a listen. And you mentioned that you've been part
of eight different postseasons.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Here, what is different about this particular team ever?
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Live O live?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
The fact that we don't.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
Yeah, congratulate again, thank you again, Key Kick says, the
fact that we don't give a blank curses on national television,
and Ken Rosenthal thanks him, and Key Kick that, yeah,
thank you, thank you for letting me say that a
natural television.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
I really appreciate that. I think it.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Comes out from this series that neither dugout wants Kenn
Rosenthal around.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
That's just why he did that. He took his moment.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
But you know, it goes down in the antles of
like great uh interviews that players have had. I mean,
Ricky Henderson famously you know, a happy Mother's Day mother,
uh and talking about John Olerude plenty of quotes through
the years. Uh, Julio Cruz, you talk about Key K
being a spark plug for these Dodgers. At one point,
Julio Cruz, member of the White Sox, was asked about
(11:45):
his contribution. He basically said, I don't have to hit.
I'm the spark plug.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
So so you get these moments. But again, you know,
just saying, hey, caught in.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
The emotion of it all, maybe not that they're just
guys that are going out and playing at this point,
that the emotion that may have and the weight that
might have been there isn't there this year for them,
that it's not pervasive in the clubhouse. I think he's
partially lying, clearly, because there's a lot of weight. Because
(12:16):
Dave Roberts celebrated the hell out of this win. I
don't know I've seen Dave Roberts celebrate quite this much
other than the world series victory and clearly front and center,
not that anybody had put any of this on him.
And that's the hard part of all of this, is
that he might have been the fall guy for a
failed attempt and the injuries to the pitchers and everything
(12:38):
else while not really doing anything wrong. In the postseason.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Exit, how about a Fresca exit swollen down in the
Jason Smizer with Mike Carmon Lai from the tirech dot
Com studios.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Tell me, man, this is Rocky and Apottle. Let's go,
let's go.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
No happy to be here, and we'll see you guys
on Sunday because looks, look, this is just okay.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
To be fit for both teams.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Right, this is not even supposed to be a year
the Mets contended this far. This was a this was
it no no, But here's the thing. This was a
This was a gap year while they got rid of
all the dead money on the books and hey, we're
gonna contend for a wildcard spot and see where they're at. Look,
this is why David Seerns, the executive the year in
Major League Baseball, Right, you're.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Supposed to be backpacking through Europe.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
It was a gap year.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
No, it's a gap year and so and so for
the Mets to be at this at this level, it's amazing,
But still they are a flawed team. The Mets bullpen
is not great. I don't know that there's anybody really
trustworthy in the Mets bullpen right now. But it comes
down to it, Pete, get the big hits, right Peterson,
Peter Elane, you're fired and he would be our best starter,
(13:45):
and for some reason, the Mets have him in the
bullpen because they couldn't get him back into starting because
they need him to close out the end of the
series with the Brewers. So the Mets are a flawed team.
This is not a pray you look at some of
the lineup going really these guys. The Mets have the
vibe right, Dodgers, this is a terrific team, but the
Dodgers aren't bulletproof. The Dodgers starting pitching is a huge issue.
It's a huge issue. And the bullpen has been great.
(14:07):
Is the bullpen still gonna be this good or are
they gonna get a bit of a bounce in the
next series?
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Right?
Speaker 1 (14:12):
So this is this is not your one versus six. Oh,
the ride's gonna automatically be over for the Mets. This
is the Dodgers is gonna have to scratch and claw
as much as they can to get through this. It's
not gonna be Otani hitting home run after home and
I say, there's gonna have four home runs on Sunday
hitting home run after home run because the Mets have
been through everything. And for the Dodgers, yeah, they seem
(14:34):
to think. And the bright spot for the Dodgers is
they seem to look like they're gonna be peaking at
the right time. Like I don't know, the last couple
of days hasn't been uh oh, the Dodgers now suddenly
are playing their best baseball and that's gonna be something
to watch out for. But you know what Mets are
play in their best baseball. This is gonna be a
rock fight. It's a heavyweight fight, man, don't look at
it any other way. That's exactly what this is.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Gonna be home run derby two on two tay Oscar
and show Hey going to the gainst Alons and Lynndor
tune in Sunday.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Like you get the NBA the MLB Jam video, like
the the NBA cham video with the two guys on
each side.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Get those cartoon graphics going. Let's go exit out by
a Frasca exit swollen dome.
Speaker 1 (15:16):

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tire Rack dot com studios,
where we have a crazy story out of the NBA
coming your way in a few minutes. And it's gonna
be a name that you you haven't heard in a
long time, But boy is it gonna be something. Uh
(16:12):
So we're gonna have that coming up for you in
a few minutes. Uh really, I mean, it's gotta be
something for a night to take away from the Dodgers,
the Mets, the NLC.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
I know we got something pretty special for you, But.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
We have a big weekend of football coming up. Mike
and I are going to give you our big college
football bowl predictions coming up in a few minutes. But
I want to take a look now at the best
game in the NFL, the biggest game in the NFL
this weekend, and you know it's it's it's my upset special.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
For the NFL. I I don't know what here.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Here's the thing this one makes me crazy is that
I know how they're what their record's gonna end up.
I know it's not gonna be good, and yet I
still find myself picking the Cowboys to win games.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
It's crazy, right, but I still find myself doing it.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
But you know, look, Cowboys Lions is the game of
the week, and it's the big rematch from last year,
the Jimmy Johnson game.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Oh I reported, I'm eligible. I'm not.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Look, there's gonna be all of that, all that flavor
going into this game.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
And while this doesn't mean that I'm down on the Lions.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Look, as time has gone on in the NFC, the
struggle that I thought the Lions were going to have.
I'm not as worried because other teams are struggling more.
But this is a Lions team coming off a bye,
and Jared Goff just isn't the same quarterback away from
home that he is with Detroit. We have enough of
a sample size to know that. Okay, you can expect
one kind of game from him in Detroit and quite
(17:41):
another game on the road. He does have a good
game on the road this year so far. I'm not
saying he doesn't, but this is going to be a
bit of a different thing. Dallas is coming off a
big emotional win last week where they drove down for
a touchdown at the end and Dak Prescott not only
throwing the touchdown, but jumping on the fumble and really
trying to justify every penny of that big contract he
(18:02):
got before the season. I like Dallas in this game,
and I grant, but Dalla's still gonna win eight nine games.
It was like the third time I picked them, but
it's not. It's not quite that. What I see with
Dallas that might be a little bit different. Okay, is
that yet? You know we talked about the pitch and
catch that that you're gonna be able to put that
DAK and CD can play, and that's certainly gonna be
(18:22):
the case here, right, there'd be a lot of points
in this game.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
But it was a couple of years ago where Dallas.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Looked like, ah, I don't know what we're gonna do offensively,
Ezekiel Elliott's not the same guy, and maybe we gotta
split carries to him and Tony Pollard.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
And Tony Parlor was just a guy. He's like, yeah,
Tony Pollard.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Now three years later, Tony Pollard's a guy who got
a big contract to leave to go play for the Titans,
and he was a revelation in the Cowboys backfield. Sudden
is wait a minute, Tony Pollard's averaging like nearly five
yards of carry and the Cowboys offense was really good. Hey,
you you know, yes, all the all the headlines go
to DAK and CD and the offense, and I understand that,
but hey, you're not winning twelve games a year the
(19:01):
last three years without being able to run the football
as well as you had when they had Tony Pollard
they were able.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
To do that. And maybe Rico Dowdell is that guy.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
You don't want to give him a lot of responsibility.
You're not sure the kind of player he is. But
then when you get to a point where you have
no choice because Ezekiel Elliott is washed and you can't
suddenly say all right, Deuce Vaughan, go be the exciting
number one, and it's like through just by default, Hey,
all right, Dowdell's gonna get the carries. And now suddenly,
wait a minute, Donald's putting up some numbers here. Suddenly,
(19:32):
wait a minute, he might not be bet. He might
be Tony Pollard two point zero. And if that's the case,
then then this Cowboys offen is gonna be even better
and more dangerous, because this is something nobody sees coming.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
But just seeing his arc.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Over the course of this season so far where very regrettably,
and because they have nowhere else to go, we're gonna
give him the football more.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Oh, hey, look at this, we found something. Maybe this
is a guy not gonna run.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
For one hundred and fifty yards a week, but can
he run for seventy five eighty yards a week?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
He can do that.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Suddenly, take a look at this Cowboys offense and how
many more games they're gonna be able to try to
pull out in the end because they can run the football.
Dowdill running the ball, I'm tell he could be Tony
Pollard two point zero.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Four yards to carry thus far, also adding eleven receptions
averaging about nine yards of reception.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
The other guy is.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Tolbert, right, We joked about it because he had the
T shirt made right the freeze frame. Hey, here's the
picture of his winning touchdown. But he's emerged, right, He's
got twenty receptions on the year, ferguson a solid tight end.
He's healthy. So you've got some weapons, and you got
a lot of chirping out of Ezekiel Elliott evidently as well,
(20:37):
which is kind of fun because you know, I like
the chaos that flows out of that, no question about it.
But you know what's curious is Detroit should be able
to run the ball effectively. Right, You're still missing Lauren,
still missing Parsons, so you should be able to set
up the pass something you know past opponents, certainly Pittsburgh
was not able to do, so opportunity knocks there. But yeah,
(21:00):
it just has that feel of Dak being able to
put him on his shoulders to get a w I'm
still gonna take Detroit to win the game, because you know,
I got to look out for your family, although they'll
be riding high tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
But that's a whole other thing.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
But I think there's just too much balance with the
Detroit offense that maybe Dak has to stand on the
sideline a lot like he's caged because Montgomery and Gibbs
are just running the ball.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Well, they're gonna score a lot, But this is a
game where coming off a bye, the rust is gonna
show a little bit and Dallas is gonna get out
to a lead early and it's gonna be Detroit chipping away,
staying in it most of the game, because I can
see Dallas coming out at home, coming out like a
house of fire something. It's fourteen to three, and what's
going on with Detroit? But then look, Detroit's offense is
(21:53):
too good, right. The running backs are fantastic. And oh,
by the way, shout out David Montgomery for that interview
he did with Michael Fobbio and Lindsay Roads about mental
health and what it was like with as far as
it comes to fantasy football. It's an incredible listen about
what goes through players heads sometimes they think about during
a season an unbelievable story. Shout out to him for
(22:14):
telling that story on the air. This offense just said
they have too many weapons, you know, to keep them down.
So it's not like they're not going to score. But
this is the Lions on the road where you get
the mistakes from golf and you might get a little
bit of stop and go before they really get going.
And the Cowboys getting out to that lead. They certainly
able to go up and down the field. We saw them.
(22:34):
They're coming off that big win the end of last week,
and that's why I think they get out to a
good early start and are able to hold lot. I
think like thirty four to thirty one.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
I like this.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
I love the over, I love the over in this.
But yeah, I'll go like thirty four to thirty one Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
The only way they really have an advantage is if
they open the dome right retractable roof. So if AT
and T is open, then Jared Goff sometimes doesn't know
what to do.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
What are we doing? This is open?
Speaker 7 (23:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
No, no, Because that was the thing with the Lion's
schedule coming into the year was look at all the
dome games he got and what a great Dome player
is like, here's how you mess with his head. Wait,
it's right before kickoff? Why is that opening? Why am
I seeing natural sunlight? No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, the
home road splits are certainly there, and it is a
(23:25):
huge spot for Dallas. I like the I like the
intrigue of it. Like, there's a lot of games this
week that are moderately interesting. I don't think there's a
lot of points scored in a bunch of them, but
they're moderately interesting. This one potential for chaos with a
over under, a fifty.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Two exit out about a Fresca exit Swallen Dome.

who now have an opponent in the NLCS. But first,
what the Mets did on their off day before we
get to the game.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
Steve, Well, that's one way to couch. But yes, the
Mets aren't traveling this weekend. They knew they were going
to Southern California to open the NLCS Sunday night on
Fox TV. Dodgers Stadium will be the host for that
game and for Game two on Monday afternoon. Then New
York will host Game three Wednesday night against LA. The
Dodgers eliminated the rival Padres two nothing tonight to finish
(24:48):
the best of five nl Division series, and Andres offense
went two for twenty eight. The Dodgers pitch back to
back shutouts this week to close out the series. In fact,
twenty four straight score less innings to finish it up.
Dodger reliever Alex Vessia left to night with a possible
strained oblige, but the Dodger bullpen with four hitless innings
(25:09):
and five strikeouts tonight the save to Blake Trin and
winning starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto five scoreless innings.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
He has not.
Speaker 8 (25:16):
Pitched more than five innings in any game since the
shoulder injury in June the loss to ex Dodger you Darvish,
who was good again six and two thirds innings, but
he allowed two solo homers. Dodgers only had two other.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Hits in the game.
Speaker 8 (25:30):
But due advance, Tomorrow's game five in the Alds Detroit
at Cleveland was moved up to one pm Eastern Time
due to impending rain. The Alcs will have the Yankees
hosting games one and two on Monday and Tuesday nights.
Speaking of bullpens, Yankee bullpen in their Divisional series, they
pitched fifteen and two thirds innings, no earned runs allowed.
(25:51):
In college football, it's about five and a half minutes
to go at Arizona State Sun Devil still leading sixteenth
ranked Utah now twenty to nineteen, as the Utes have
just kicked a field goal. Starting quarterback Cam Rising is
in there tonight after a finger injury, but two interceptions thrown.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
NOI is not Rising over the court. Everybody wants him benched.
On social media, you gotta get him out of there.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
It's the bad moon rising Tonight at Yeah Thank you
Northwestern Professional, don't try this at home. Northwestern a winter
at Maryland thirty seven to ten and unlb's five and
one after a victory at Utah State fifty to thirty four.
A reminder Saturday at noon Eastern time, Washington at Iowa
on Fox TV. Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will start
(26:38):
on Sunday after a shoulder injury. Tennessee will host Indy
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's a game time decision with his
oblique injury. Indy running back Jonathan Taylor is out with
the bad ankle. Bill's running back James Cook misspractice again
with a toe injury. Patriots running back Mandre Stevenson out
with a foot injury, misspractice all week. Brown's running back
Nick Chubb is still out with the bad knee, and
(27:01):
Giants wide receiver Molak Neighbors is still out with a concussion.
Among the NHL games, tonight, Winnipeg in overtime beat Chicago
Philadelphia with a shootout victory. At Vancouver, Tampa Bay and
Vegas with wins.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Thank to you, Thank you, Steve O and TJ clearly
Cam Rising falling to Arizona State right now by a
point late in the fourth QUARTERDJ, I just, I mean,
I've been waiting for that all night. I wait, when
are we going to get cam Rise against?
Speaker 3 (27:28):
I didn't? I did? I did. We're all good.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Look a couple of previews have we have now, because
then we have the big craziness coming up in about
fifteen minutes.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
It's audio you absolutely have to hear.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Let's give you our other upset special picks of the week,
and then we'll tell you what's going to happen tomorrow
in the alcs in Kyle told you the NFL game
of the week taking the Cowboys getting three. Give me
USC getting three and a half against Penn State tomorrow.
This is the typical game that USC wins, right when
the pressure is gone, you think the season is lost.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Hey, Lincoln Riley, we will win this game.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
It's a thing when a team has to travel in
college football across the country, right, you think it wouldn't
have just a playing ride, it says. We talked about
this with Pete fu Tec from College Football News, and
this is the trip of trips for Penn State, and
with USC playing at home, I know their offense is
going to be able to move the football. On their defense,
Penn State's a little limited offensively. As long as Miller
(28:24):
Moss doesn't turn the ball over, USC will keep it
close enough. You know, it's hard for me to see
Penn State showing up, getting off the plane and suddenly, hey,
it's fourteen to nothing, and what's USC gonna do now?
USC is still a really talented team. Can you say
they're tricky? Sure you can say that more there, but
we've seen them win big games. We see them rise
up and win big games, beating LSU the way they did.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
This is one of.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Those games where hey, USC shows you maybe we are
better than you think we are, because they have at
least two or three of those games a year. Then
they have two three games. Oh no, wait, you're not
nearly as good as we thought you were. But early
part of the season at home for this, I'll take USC.
I'll take I'll take the three and a half points.
Will get me wrong, but USC's gonna win this on
the field dramatic fashion.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Twenty seven to twenty four.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Just remember this. If it goes sideways, that seat is
really really hot and flaming because Lincoln Riley was making
a lot of excuses a week ago.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Oh, they'll take that plane away from the first thing
is the plane. The first thing is the private plane.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
Wow, we'll see and then and then you start taking
the other accoutrements. Oh way, I'm gonna take LSU getting
three and a half at home against Ole Miss. Since
that loss to start the season against the aforementioned USC Trojans,
they've been running up some big point totals. Good spreading
in and around. As you look at at nuss Meyer,
(29:45):
he's got four receivers with at least twenty receptions, so
lots of different weapons. He's completing seventy percent of his
passes and four touchdowns per pick. So give me them
plus three and a half as they race back into
the top ten.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
All right, So there's are upsets special picks in college
football and the I'm a little nervous, Mike, I gotta
be in a thirteen and two. I should have been
fourteen and two, but the bleeping Bengals can't close out
a ten point lead in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
I wind up getting a.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Push getting you can trust that defense man, man, I'll
tell you man, that's no. You cannot trust their defense
at all. Right now, Now, this is the belief. Sometimes
a belief in one player is enough to withstand everything else.
Alcs tomorrow game five or Alds tomorrow Game five. We're
(30:31):
waiting for the final team to join the other three
teams in the league championship series. And I can't bet
against Tarik school Ball. He's been the best pitcher in baseball.
It's not even close. He has shut the Guardians down
in theory. Could this be a game where he's sharp,
but the Guardians scratch out a couple of runs. Yeah,
But I don't know that they're gonna score off of them.
(30:51):
I really don't. And the Tigers have found a way
throughout the playoffs to get runs when they needed. Yes,
they had a bullpen meltdown in the last game, but
buy a large A Hinch has pulled the right strings.
I don't know that anybody makes better decisions overall in
the playoffs than aj Hinch does. So I will take
the Tigers behind Tarik school I'll take I'll take them
two to one tomorrow to go on, and it's the
(31:14):
Tigers and the Yankees.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
I dig that you're taking the under and you're taking
the Guardians with the spread. It's one and a half
runs and the total is six. I've definitely taken the under.
Oh yeah, yeah, there's I can't believe. That's insane, that's
that's just crazy. Uh So, but yeah, you're not beating
(31:36):
school like man on a mission. Guardian's a fun story
for me being the U the White Sox honk and
watching the division unfold and and guys teams dominating uh
by really taking advantage of beating the hell out of
us repeatedly. Uh, Tigers have been fun to watch. I
don't think this is much more. I think you're two
(31:58):
to one. Maybe a three game is really about as
far as I'd be willing to go based on what
we've seen out of here. But Schooble, no chance. They're
not getting to him seven innings strong problem in the
next round because he won't be available to game three.
But you know what, cross that bridge when they get
to it. Your family back in Detroit celebrates.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Tomorrow exit out about a Fresca exit swallen' don The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon coming

Oh boy, oh yeah, that's next, righty here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (32:38):

Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon coming soon to Fox.
When pregame shows go bad, it takes a lot to
get us away from a big college football NFL weekend
Dodgers going to the NLCS at there win tonight.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
They host the Mets in Game one on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
Jason, we didn't even do a bunch of the post
game because it takes too long to bleep all these games.
They're all trying to one up at this point, every
last one of them.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Well, hey, this is where you should learn from Former
NBA head coach Sam Mitchell, very famous for single guarding
Kobe Bryant during his eighty one point game.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
No, no, not gonna double team.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
Can't fault a good strategy. Continue gonna continue to throw
one guy at Jacobe. Good luck, Sam Mitchell, former NBA coach,
on NBA TV Right Now with Chris Miles doing the
pregame show before tonight's game between Sacramento Golden State. It
just started about a half hour ago. This is a
late game on the West Coast, but NBA TV has
(33:50):
the game. Okay, great, So here are Chris Miles and
Sam Mitchell and they're doing their normal pregame stuff lead
leading up to the game, when suddenly things get personal.
Chris Miles makes a seemingly an innocuous joke about salary,
and Sam Mitchell did not like that.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Take a listen, not at all.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
I'm surprised coaches don't get a gold medal.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
I'm surprised coaches get a paycheck for the show.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
You know, I think, like, maybe you should do this
pro bono, my friend.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
You know, last time I looked at my check, it's
pretty close. So hey, I'm taking donations. Why don't you
come up off some of that money you got since
you over there bragging about.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
It, I'm I mean, oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
Did you rent your beach house house down in Florida
doing the hurricane? Do I need to go on? How
about your townhouse over over Bucket?
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Hey, you want to call me? I mean, come on,
I even broken, hungry.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Let's just see it.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
You know, I know, I know what you have and
where you live, young fellows, so you.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
Need to I think we have snitches on the show today,
we have Mitchell.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
We have truth tellers. So you're the one who poor
destitute up here? When do I need to keep.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Going on further more and more? Or do you want
me to start going to this game?
Speaker 5 (35:12):
You gonna stop messing with me on National TV?
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Told you about that?
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Okay, all right, that's not the end of it. But
we don't want to play. We don't want to play
the rest of it for you. And I'll tell you why.
How awkward is that?
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Chris?
Speaker 1 (35:27):
But just makes it fun? Hey, you know, hey, I
can't believe coaches get paid for this show. Like it's
so much fun to do this show. How about you
doing pro bono? And Sam Mitchell decides, oh, I don't
like that, and I'm gonna talk about you renting out
your beach house.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
And the hurricane like whoa?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Like that got serious really fast, like all of a sudden,
this is not cool anymore. Chris Miles is trying to
laugh it off, a lot of nervous laughter, not at
what what's happening I'm sure he doesn't know what's going on.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Why sam Mitchell so upset?
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Why is why is he talking about all the two
places I own, the houses I own? This is a
guy that coached and played in the NBA and he's
talking about he's jealous of what I have?
Speaker 3 (36:06):
What the hell is happening here?
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Quickly word pregame segment and it got even more awkward.
But before, let's let's break down what we just heard.
There's a lot of big quotable. Uh, sam Mitchell's out
of there. But I think I told you, young fella,
you're gonna stop messing with me on National TV. I
think that's my favorite how he ended it with that,
you're gonna stop messing with me on National TV or
(36:30):
I'll leak your address to the rest of the world.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
Yeah, because he says it, I you want to want
to keep doing this and that that's like the Ken
Rosenthal you know, getting asses? Are we on live TV?
It's like, yeah, nothing good coming out of this. Key
k Hernandez Kurz. Ken Rosensall said, thank you for ending
the interview. Okay, we're done, We're done, We're done ending
this one. Hey, can we go to the game now,
(36:53):
just guys, hell, hell, can we go to the game?
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Don't look look at him? How look at it?
Speaker 4 (37:04):
So that's exactly what he did.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
How private answer the question?
Speaker 5 (37:11):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (37:12):
And the thing is they finished talking about you know, hey,
there should be a game in Seattle because that, you
know previously all great, we should have a team back
in Seattle. Steve Balmer had some really fun things to say,
pumping up the crowd in Seattle for the game there tonight,
and everything was.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Kind of fun.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
But in the pregame toss just a few seconds later,
I don't want to play it for us.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
We don't want I don't want it. I mean it's out.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
In a lot, I don't we don't want to get
to it exactly.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
But uh, Sam Mitchell still gets mad and gives out
Chris Miles his home address. Yea, and he and they're
talking going okay, And the thing is Chris Miles should
have just let it go at that point, like that's where, okay,
it was really awkward.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
You brought it back. It's done.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
And then Chris Miles says, so there you go, Sam,
Actually you do have a you have a good point
once in a while, Like dude, what are you doing.
You just saw what he did. He was he was
taking the show off the rails. I know you want
to kind of get back at him because you're mad
at what he's what he's doing, But all you knew,
all you're gonna do is inflame that. And he says, hey, Sam,
you do make a good point now and again and
say goes okay, and then.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
He gives out the guy's a dress. He says this
and treads.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
On the air, I got I gotta think we get
ourselves a change up on that show here after tell
you what you're all fired on the eve of the season.
What is it?
Speaker 3 (38:25):
How do you get that mad? Hey?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Do the show pro bono? So you know there's some people. Look,
there's some people to not mess with money wise. Like
when you make a joke about money there initially right
away shut it down because it's a really touchy subject. Okay,
not gonna joke about money. But wow, man on the air,
like you know, he's just making a joke and suddenly
it's oh, your townhouse and you're you rent out that
that that house in the in the in the hurricane.
(38:49):
It was like you could hear the whole.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Studio go well, but that becomes a question right as
he had you know done the hey, you know you
pick up you pick up bill and whatever else, And
so taking that shot here escalated into I'm gonna I'm
gonna air out everything you own. Wow, I don't know
(39:11):
where you're four oh one, k's invested.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
If you really want, if you really want to say that,
go oh you like number Sam? How about this eighty one? Boy, Kobe?
How'd you let him score eighty one? I mean, nobody's
even come close to that, man, eighty one.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
That would have been the that would have been the
proper comeback interstead of any at the rest of it.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
That's really something man. Eighty one? Wow, oh boy, that's
a that's a big number. You talk about big number.
That's a big number. What do you think about that?
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (39:37):
I mean I'm watching that going What is happening?
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Right? How are they still on television? How do they
not just go to break or go to commercial or something? No, no,
can't go back to goes difficult. Keith Shallow and we
were talking about or.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Just keep going with this, just keep we want to
see where it goes. Just keep going.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
Someone start dancing like you're uh, Britney Spears's.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Sister coming up next. Bern and Bernie, you proud of this?
As Fox Matt
