Hello, Welcome inside Final Hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the tire
rack dot Com studios tirec dot com. I'll help you
get there. An unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot
Com is the way tire buying should be. Well, we're

(00:52):
gonna get to that big fun head coaching story coming
up in a few minutes. Boy, it doesn't even involve
Jerry Jones and the Cowboy look Out. But we watched
the Rams tonight beat the Vikings move on in the
playoffs twenty seven to nine, a game they dominated from
the beginning of the game. Was I surprised, No, As

(01:15):
I said last hour, Why did I pick them Sean
mcvagbill out coach Kevin O'Connell as good a coach as O'Connell,
as Sean McVay is gonna find a way to outscheme.
They did, and the Rams win top to bottom. Now
with the backdrop of this game and really all weak
and still, as we watch our never ending coverage of
the wildfires in Los Angeles, two more new fires have

(01:38):
opened up tonight. There is a fire in a riverbed
in Santa Clara and Oxnard as well. You know, we've
we've talked about how six o'clock Wednesday is really high noon,
that if the wins can behave or be helpful between
now and then, then we're going to be through the
the other side of it. That's kind of what we
were told here in La by experts, by the fire

(02:01):
department over the course of the last couple of days.
I like the fact that they've been confident in that
we have the wi we have the water, we have
the personnel, we got everything. We're ready. We're ready, We're ready,
we've we've we've gone through the worst part and now
we're now we're ready to be aggressive or to come
back and really make a dent on this and now
we just need the winds to behave And it's the

(02:22):
only story everywhere, the continuing coverage of the fires, and
and it's it's just I can't tell you what it's
like to live out here, and I couldn't tell you
what it's like to be someone who has lost absolutely everything. Uh,
and there's fifty thousand more and more people that have
absolutely had that happen to them. I always say that

(02:43):
sports illustrates the best of us because whenever there is
a question in the in the world, whether it is
about a moral thing, whether it's about going forward or
going backwards, with anything that that that affects us, sports
always shows us we're the best of who we are.

(03:03):
And I really I really like seeing the stories that
we've had the last few days, and they need more
publicity quite honestly, that are showing what we are doing
and what people are doing, what the human spirit is
like to be able to help in times like this.
Right the firefighters from Mexico who came up to help,
right with all the stuff going on, what's going to

(03:24):
happen with the borders in ten twelve days, Hey, we're
coming up to help. Great you know, I told the
story earlier in the show about how the YMCAs in
our area were taking donations for clothes and volunteers and
they were getting the clothes to the shelters where people
were being taken that had no clothes, that had lost
everything in the fire. And that was great to see

(03:45):
this week and to see so many kids volunteering when
I went there, it was amazing. And this is one
YMCA and the you know in our area where we live,
and there needs to be more uplifting stories like that,
because while this tragedy is happening, you know, we are
we are seeing people do great things to try to help.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
You know.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
It's from the firefighters who are at the top of
that list and the first responders all the way down
to what, you know, what can I do to help?
How can I help? Can I open my Airbnb to somebody?
Can I can I find a way to get food
to you that you need? What's the number one thing
that is needed here? Is it? Is it? Is it shoes?
Is it is it socks?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
You know?

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Can I find a way on Facebook for someone to
moderate the page that my local town is in where
they can say this is where to go with these items.
Everybody is doing their part. And yes it is football,
but it's a big deal and it's the biggest sports
story of the night. And I always say our business
is sports. And for the Rams to win this game, right,
and you had the big Rachel Platten do or fight

(04:44):
song before the game and the moment of silence for
all the victims at the wildfires which are still going on.
The Rams are trying to win a football game. Think
about the last week they start their preparation for this
game and the wildfires breakout. And now you you are
preparing for a football game, and you train in Thousand Oaks,
which is not very far from where the Palisades fire

(05:08):
broke out, and it got closer and closer to the city.
Middle of the week. The Rams were practicing and they
saw a fire from their practice field. They had no
time to get ready for this game. You're trying to
practice and say, hey, what am I doing? We figure
it out a way. You're talking to your family. Do
we need to leave? We need to bug out? We
got to get a go bag ready. Do I got
to pack and be ready to leave at any time

(05:28):
because we could go from the being a red zone
into a into an orange zone, which means you have
to get out, you have to evacuate. And the Rams
spend the first three four days of the week and
it's what are we doing? And then the NFL moves
the game to Arizona. The Rams get there on Friday,
and the big statement was from Sean I believe was
Sean McVay that said, now we can concentrate on football.

(05:49):
So now you're still trying to win a game. This
is to the season's not stopping. Everything is going on,
and you've had four days of really what could you
possibly accomplish? So here you are in Arizon. You've lost
home field advantage rights we're talking about the football game.
You've lost home field advantage. And now you're preparing in
three days for a neutral sight game. And you go

(06:10):
out on Monday night with all of this going on,
with everything happening, and still wondering if the winds change,
what's gonna happen to my home, if the winds change,
what's gonna happen to people I know? And they go
out and they win this game, and they just don't win.
They blow the doors off of the Vikings. They dominate
this game, from the opening jump touchdown field goal, it's

(06:32):
ten to nothing. Donald finally gets a field goal on
the board, but they keep sacking Donald, they keep getting
to him, They keep forcing the Vikings in the bad situations,
and at some point you thought, well, the Vikings are
going to show up right there. They've been too good
a team, their offense has been too good, and they're
gonna show up. Well, they didn't. And this is because
the Rams were able to keep all kinds of pressure

(06:53):
on Sam Donald. Matthew Stafford, we talked about him a
few minutes ago being able to have the night. He
had two hundred yards, two touchdowns, buck seventeen quarterback rating,
with losing Tyler Higbee in the first half and Cooper
Cup catching one pass all of a sudden, this vaunted
Rams wide receiver unit and receiving unit is not that great, right,
And Jordan Winington didn't even play, and he's a guy

(07:14):
they really liked for next year, and they're able to
win the game like this and not just again, not
just win dominate from the beginning of the game to
the end. I don't know about inspiration. I don't know
about what it means to succeed in the face of adversity,
and certainly there are other more human things that are
bigger than winning a football game. But if you can
put a public face on a good story to come

(07:35):
out of what the human spirit means. Yes, we have
the juxtaposition of what's going on in Los Angeles with
the first responders fighting and people trying to stay safe
and everybody doing their best, everybody's batting together, and then
you have the big public face of the Rams winning
a huge game, knowing that this is all the stuff
they had to overcome. There's overcoming adversity, and then there's

(07:57):
doing what the Rams did, which is just I don't know.
I don't know how they did. I don't know how you.
I don't even know how You're ready for this game.
No one would have been upset if the Vikings came
out and won thirty five three. What are you gonna say?
What do you expect from the Rams? Look at the
week they had, what do you how well do you
expect them to play? And they come out and they
just dominate, And you could see the happiness the the
three hours that that that Rams fans had here in

(08:20):
Los Angeles, all over the country, but here in La
watching the game, seeing them win and move on in
the playoffs. I mean there's sometimes the trying for the
human spirit, and sports always shows us we're the best
of everything. And tonight and the Rams are one of
those stories.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
So it's funny going in and walking my dog before
you know, I jump in the car to get out
here to the studio and there are a bunch of
folks with their Rams hats and jerseys or whatever. They
were heading to the local bar and like big one tonight.
It's like after this week, Yeah, we need we need
this this pause.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
I want three hours to just just forget about.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
You know. And you're talking to folks about where they work,
you know, many working in the the industry as they
call it here, right, you know, anything related to movie making,
TV production, et cetera. It's like, yeah, it's like we
were thrown out off the set that we were working
on and you know, wondering if what we're going back to,
But yeah, we're gonna go watch the Rams and go

(09:18):
enjoy this.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
All right, Kelly had organized buses and dem off in
his squad with season ticket holders or whatever to get
out there. Well, two of their kids were hospitalized over
the weekend. Not a lot of details, but you know,
doing well, et cetera. So all of that, you know,
rallying around it, and everybody's done it to some degree
in their lives, or at least most people have, right

(09:42):
either going through personal stuff, their kids, going through different things,
maybe a death in the family, a job loss or change,
change of whatever's going on. You rally in and what
do you do. You seek solace in what you know.
All right, I'm gonna go back and and I'm gonna
go work extra hours. Is it healthy?

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Long term?

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Nobody gets you through those couple of days, a couple
of weeks, whatever at its worst. And for the RAMS,
it became a business trip right as soon as you
get between those white lines. And you know, we were
talking with Steve de Seger earlier, right, the amount of
money spent to try to replicate the RAMS home facilities
as best they as they could. But once the whistle blows, Yeah,

(10:26):
in theory, you compartmentalize, but you never know what form
that's gonna take, right, because there's still a lot of
time between snaps. There's still a lot of times between
the hotel and the facility and the training room and
everything else to.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Where you have to go and perform.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
And you know they were able to compartmentalize it the
best of sport, you know, talking about doing it for
the city and having them on their you know, shoulders
and all of that.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, they went and put their best foot forward.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Viking fans are going to complain about seating and playing
a road games like, well, okay, you were in Arizona.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
That should have helped you some.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Hey, in theory, right you get to a fifty to fifty,
because that was always the joke about coming to play
in Los Angeles too, right, is that there was no
real home field advantage. Well, you went and got your
ass handed to you. And for Stafford, for McVeigh, for
the squad, whatever the messaging was, other than having that
picture of O'Connell and Campbell of hey, i'll see you

(11:23):
in two weeks, another rallying cry, I'm sitting in the
backdrop here, they went out and put on a magnificent
performance and that defense should get all the accolades. But yeah,
led by the veteran Stafford, they move on.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Now, how special of a win was this for the Rams?
Here's Sean McVeigh in his post game speech of the
team following the win, Hey.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
How about the defense up tied a playoff record with.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, they'll tell you what.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
There's so many guys that we could recognize.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
But I think this truly epitomizes a team winning.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
You talk about a connected group, you talk about a
team that said, oh we go for this. That's exactly
what you guys came out and did. Man, unbelievable and all.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
You guys did.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
You represented exactly what we wanted to be about. Man,
a city that go with through a lot of different stuff.
That can look to you guys and say, I'm proud
of that group just being your guys. Something right there, Man,
give it up for yourself.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Great speech, Great speech by Sean McVay. I didn't realize
you cursed that much. Good for him. Well you gotta
curse a couple of times. No, I didn't hear any curses.
Well we would, you know, I had it in my head. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
we may it. No, no, no, it's fine. Just to
bleeped out Harmon's head. It was.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
You know, there was a lot of filling the blank.
Choose your own adventure. Words from Sean McVay.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Now, let me go back really quick because this is
another thing to talk about the dominance, and just watch out,
Nick Sirianni. Watch out Philadelphia. So the last game of
the year, right, the Rams played regular season was that
game where they decided we want to rest Matthew Stafford
and a lot of starters and not play them, even
though they could have played for a higher seed. They
wanted to rest everybody. Right, So Jimmy Garoppolo played. It

(13:19):
was a jimmy and they lost to Seattle thirty to
twenty five. Right, So throw that game out because they
were playing their backups and weren't playing. Throw that game out. Okay,
the last four games the Rams have played, right, good luck,
Nick Sirianni. December twelfth, they allowed six points to the
forty nine Ers. December twenty second, nine points to the Jets. Jets,

(13:45):
December twenty eighth, nine points to the Arizona Cardinals. Tonight
nine points to the Minnesota Vikings. Good luck Philadelphia.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Non good luck. I bring you this. They this season
lost to the Bears. But see, but that's the thing
is that it's different now. It's hard to it's hard
to compare.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Hey, what's going on now with what happened September may
as well have been five years ago. I get that.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
I just wanted you and just want to get into
the Bears's got a very valid point loss to the Bears.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
They shouldn't even have been able to make the tournament
that was part of their one and four start where
they lost to Detroit in Arizona. You had that real
fast review of the interception. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
I saw one that was overturned that looked pretty similar
this week.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
So I did all that to say good luck, tell
you good luck, Nik, Sirianni, good luck.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
I just like chaos, and if they lose, we might
be looking at a new coach, a new champion in Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swalling down the Jason
smithser with Mike Carmon coming up next, we got more
from this game and more on a crazy coaching story
you're not gonna believe who won, high profile NFL team
has a bit of an infatuation with That's next Jason
and Mike Fox. Now, look, I'm out of weather man,
but I'll give you my forecast. Snow and ice are coming.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
He got it, He about it, Donald me about it.
Was under pressure, he got it. Doo doop. Donald rams
are pressing down on you. You threw a pick. Wow, you

(16:33):
were under pressure. Throw the ball away, Throw the ball away,
throw it away. But you didn't throw it away. Now
held on do it? Got sacked, got sacked again. Another sack.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
That's kay, one of their actual deepest lyrics, like rich
lyrics that people will now remember for you. It's Sam
Darnold and his mustache and the inevitable the pad goose.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
There's a suck. There's another one. That's number eight. Okay,
they got nine sacks on the game. A lot of
a foreman Rose showing the quarterback. All right, there's another suck,

(17:29):
another sack, sack. He got sicked, yelled onto the ball.
He got sicked. Throw the ball to the ball, for
the ball to the ball. I didn't know we could
do a whole thing on it, if only we roll
the ball. Throw the bleeping ball away. You lost a

(17:57):
lot of money. You held on to the bull. Wait
too long? Man threw it away? What a Jefferson? All right,
your QBDR means nothing at the end of a year.
Jason and Mike live in the tirerac dot Com studios.

(18:18):
More on the Rams victory over the Vikings. But some
big coaching news going down today, and it's not just
about how the Cowboys are talking to Dion sand Theer's
about potentially coming on and being the next head coach.
I don't have to commit yet. Did you find that
extra quote? According to Adam Schefter, Dion put out a
statement saying, hey, it's it's really flattering. I'm very happy

(18:40):
at Boulder. Wait wait, wait, let me find where we
act hang on wait oh no, no, that that was
the end of the statement. There was no I'm staying
that was not there.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
You know what. It's sad.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
But the other big part of the coaching search is
that now apparently the band who requests then interview with
Mike McCarthy. Yeah, got snubbed. Now we'll get that interview.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Well they can now what if they decide not to
bring him in the Bear Yeah yeah, sorry, last week.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
We liked you.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
This night, Yeah, we've talked to thirty seven other people
in a row.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Now the Bears reportedly there's a lot of upper management
that are enamored with Marcus Freeman. Go figure Notre Dame
head coach. Let me just say this.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
We said it weeks ago that that would be he'd
be on the list eventually.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Marcus Freeman, if you're listening, dude, don't pick up the phone.
You've got a good thing going at Notre Dame. Don't
pick up that phone. All of these openings are absolutely
the worst. This is the worst year for openings where
you can go somewhere and succeed. Stay at Notre Dame.
Get that con whatever they're paying you, get that bigger

(19:49):
contract extension. Sign it now.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Before you get boat raised by Ohio State. But stay
where you stay, Stay stay. Don't go anywhere near Chicago.
Don't take a meeting.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
You don't the silliness of the Bears, even though they
might be the best of the worst openings. I mean,
this just shows you the candidate dearth. Now that teams
are saying, let's just throw hail Mary's now at people
like Dion and Marcus Freeman. I'm sure John Gruden's name
is gonna come up. The candidate. The candidate pool is
so shallow it's awful, And now let's just throw this

(20:20):
out there, Marcus Freeman, stay, don't even pick up the phone.
Don't schedule a meeting, don't schedule call back. No no, no, no,
no no, don't do not when you see that call
coming in from the Chicago from three to one to
two area code, but just just just let it go
to voicemail and then delete it.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
My man just signed a contract extension mid December. You
can always get another watch for four years, so he's
got six more years on the deal.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Give me fire you want to like?

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Terms were not disclosed. Private university that maybe among the
top yearly AAVs for college football. You take a meeting,
Sure you're flat, or you'd be taking meeting. Uh, I
would argue in all of this cycle. One of the
guys that did interview with the Bears today, Thomas Brown,

(21:05):
not that he's going to get the job necessarily. I
think i'd retain him as my OC if I didn't
have a handpicked guy. But from Marcus Freeman, why would
you leave? You're just now getting everything good. You made
this switch over right, everybody getting away from what their
collectives were into this new world of rev share and
everything else.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Notre dame.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
You're printing money right, that was the big complaint. You know,
how to be in.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
A conference high James Franklin.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
They just got an extra twenty million dollars that comes
to them by virtue of playing in this championship window
here against Ohio State. So if they can go and win, well,
you know the world, Joyster, think of all the moneies
that flow from there. But even if not, look at
what you've done with this program. Wear your hat. It

(21:53):
doesn't get any better than this. You just turned thirty nine.
You've got six more years on this deal. Guess what,
the Bears job, we'll be open again in a year.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Don't worry about it. You know what, It'll be there
for every couple of years. It'll be there. Now, who's
gonna get this job? This is where things get better
from Mike McCarthy. As we've talked about, McCarthy's a good coach.
He's a really good coach. To succeed in that Cowboys
chaos and still win enough games to get to the playoffs,
win divisions, you know, he's a good coach. Jerry Jones

(22:22):
simply knows that he can get somebody flash here that
can bring attention to the franchise that can bring all
kinds of relevance. If it's deon, it becomes the story
of the year in football, and nothing else is even close.
And I can't believe that when this comes up that
Jerry's not gonna get Dian in the end because he
normally gets what he wants in these types of situations, right,

(22:43):
Jerry Jones normally does get it. So he's gonna go out.
And this is why he waited for a week and
didn't do this to screw McCarthy, even though it's screwed
him because they could have let him go a week ago.
But still he probably thought, I'll hang on to Mike. Oh,
but now I know I can get somebody flashyer to
be fair at all.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
So kind of screwed himself short term because you missed
the interview window for you know, the teams that are
still participating.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Yeah, you did. But in the end, you're you're getting
one of these get you know, it's one of these
gigs from these from these also round teams that that
they're case in point, the Mike McCarthy situation is good
for him. He's gonna jump to another job because he
is a really good CEO head coaching. Great work with
Dak Prescott, great work with the team. It's not his

(23:30):
fault that the the Dak Prescott sucked in the playoffs, right,
That's not on him. It's not helped carry in his way.
It's not on him that Jerry Jones keeps spending money badly,
and and there's and and and they can't fill out
a really good roster. The roster is the worst it's
been in a few years. It's not his fault. So
I will tell you this. You want to talk about
where the two next big head coaching openings are going

(23:53):
the next three, I'll tell you the next three. McCarthy
is going to interview with the Bears. If the Bears
don't hire him Friday, because the Bears already talked to
like fifteen people. If the Bears don't hire him by Friday,
you know it's Ben Johnson, and they're just waiting for
the Lions season to end, you know it, because for
whatever reason, of all the jobs Johnson has seemingly been

(24:15):
linked to, that one the most there is. And clearly,
if you are Ben Johnson, you want to go someplace
where you can win right away, because what's the question
about you. Boy, you got a great system. But when
you have Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery and i'm on
Ross Saint Brown and Jamison Williams and San Laporto, Wow,
that's a real you're not bringing these guys with you?
Where can he go duplicate that success? The best opening

(24:35):
of all those bad openings for that is Chicago because
you have Caleb Williams, and you have DeAndre Swift, and
you have DJ Moore and Roma Doonsay and Cole Comet
who is still an unused guy that can dominated times.
So that team has the most weapons. So if you're
saying where can I go and win and not have
to worry about building a program because what do I
know about building a program? That's where it is. But

(24:57):
for whatever reason, Chicago seems to be more in line
with him than any other opening. But clearly they could
wind up going McCarthy. McCarthy could. But if they don't
hire McCarthy by Friday, you know they're waiting for Ben Johnson.
What does this mean for the Jets and the Raiders?
The Jets are gonna be all in on Aaron Glenn.
Aaron Glenn turned down an interview with the Patriots he
turned down. And now maybe he knew that they could

(25:19):
hire Mike Rabel, but.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Also that they were kind of screwing Gerardmeo. Is he
gonna come into a situation that was gonna work?

Speaker 1 (25:27):
But he'd he.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Turned down the Patriots and he's talked to the Jets.
And I can just tell you without if I had
to put my money on a candidate, I'd put all
my money on Aaron Glenn, former Jet pro bowler. There
was a great defensive back knows New York played there
when Wood he was the owner. He get he knows
what's going on. He would be a great, great choice.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Right I've gone from it doesn't matter who the Jets hire,
too well, at least I'll hire a guy who knows
what's going on with the market, that understands what it
is as a culture guy, you know, and and and
that's what they need the Raiders. That's who's gonna wind
up with Mike McCarthy, because Brady has put his thumb
on the scale with firing Antonio Pearce and firing Tom

(26:06):
to LESCo. I know he loves Ben Johnson, but why
would you walk into that mess if you're if you're
Ben Johnson, I'm I'm gonna go there, and how many
years until I lose I'll be Josh McDaniels, I'll be
I'll be out in a year and a half. Right.
But Mike McCarthy, who is a culture setter, and Brady
and the reason we know that, Hey Brady was kind
of in Mark Davis's ear about Hey, let's let we
need it. We need a complete reset. Are you gonna

(26:28):
reset with Ben Johnson or you're gonna reset with a
guy that can be the CEO of the program. You're
gonna reset with Mike McCarthy. So in the end, that's
gonna wind up making the most sense. This is if
the Bears don't hire him by by Friday, So Bears
hiring Mike McCarthy, then Ben Johnson, Then then suddenly Ben
Johnson is out there for anybody. But it doesn't matter
because the Jets will still go with Aaron Glenn and
you're gonna wind up seeing Mike McCarthy with the Raiders.

(26:51):
So I think that that's kind of where if I
had to put all my money, I would go Dion
with the Cowboys, Johnson with the Bears, Aaron Glenn with
the Jets and then McCary with the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
You don't want to watch Mike McCarthy work with Derek
Carr down in New Orleans.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Does he wanted He's He's done the small market thing.
And that's why I don't think New Orleans and Jacksonville
are going to be great, great fits. But hey, I
can go to Las Vegas and the Glitz because I
did Green Bay, did the Green Bay thing, did the
Dallas thing. If I go to New Orleans or jack
it looks like I'm just trying to stay in the lake.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
I really just wanted to give them to go to
New Orleans so he could be frustrated with Derek carry says,
I'm not taking a page pay cut.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Look at my body of work is out there. I'm like, really,
that's the argument you have. Yes, it doesn't doesn't look
how I did eight years ago when I went went
before I got right before I got hurt.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
Yeah, McCarthy working with with Trevor Lawrence could be interesting,
a full reset with the Raiders. Now. The Ben Johnson
thing is the curiosity with the Raiders is does he
get car Blanche to go from day one where you're
fully aligned with Tom Brady, and it's a new world
order as opposed to what Mark Davis has done of Basically,

(27:58):
he's Harvey Dent in two faith flipping a coin. Yeah,
I'm done with you. Public sentiment. It's waned, it's Vegas.
We've got to reinvent ourselves here every eighteen months.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
You got to keep a new concept going.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
It's like you're a club at a Vegas, Vegas hotel,
like this one's not drawing the kids anymore.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Keep going. We got to flip it.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
So you've got that Pete Carroll in the background of it.
Is interesting with McCarthy, curious says the defensive who you
sync up with, because you saw the great success that
they did have was predicated on.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
A high level of turnovers.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
And it's funny that you have a horrible year last
year in the playoff where dan Quinn's defense doesn't really
show up, and then he goes to Washington and now
he's running the division. Got it funny alongside Philadelphia there
turning things around there for the commanders so quickly. But yeah,
watching the dominance, well, for Ben Johnson, I only want

(28:58):
to go where I get to have control because remember
that offensive line doesn't come with him here either, and
the Bears certainly do not have one.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
None of the play none of the players from the
Lions will come with it. They're not.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
He's not gonna say the offensive line really helps you
pull the strings and have fun. Like all those extra
things are nice. Love me some am On Ross Saint Brown,
love Sam Laporta. Don't get me wrong. Being able to
have Jamison Williams when he's into the game and not
fully checked out. He as explosive as he can be,
as great, but it doesn't work unless you have an
offensive line to make it all work.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
None of these players to have an offensive line, you like,
exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. Now to
a guy who would be a phenomenal offensive line twitch,
He would because he would say, snap the ball and block.
All right, I'll see you guys tomorrow. It's Steve Desager
with what's trending and I get how much per year
for that? Probably a little bit less than a million dollars. WHOA, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

(29:54):
let's go for it.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
And you'll only have to say it once because then
we just put it on tape.

Speaker 5 (29:58):
One of you could be my assistant sn I'd farm
out some of the cash for that, all right.

Speaker 1 (30:02):
But if you're saying snap the ball and block and
you're leaving, I'm gonna leave two. I'm gonna read for
me to stay. Yeah, what do I do? By the way,
that's exactly.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
What the Vikings did not do.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Tonight, Snap the ball, block half right. Sorry, I kept
saying snapped the ball. I knew there was that something
else and I couldn't remember what it was.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Block.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Block, That's what it was.

Speaker 5 (30:22):
Block, My goodness, six sacs in the first half on
Sam Darnold. Rams led at the break twenty four to
three and eliminated Minnesota twenty seven to nine. Darnald was
sacked nine times in this game, tying a playoff record.
In the first half. He threw one interception, had one
fumble that was returned for a touchdown. So the Vikings
for this season, they went oh and two against the Lions,

(30:43):
zher and two against the Rams, fourteen and zero against
everybody else. Matthew Stafford had two touchdown passes in the
first half. He started ten of ten through the year.
The Rams eventually did have ten penalties, and the offense
on third downs went two for ten and Rams starting
tight end Tyler Higg, recently back from injury, left in
the first half with a chest injury and went to

(31:03):
the hospital. He at five catches. Early Minnesota's franchise in
the last twenty years as a playoff record of three
to eight divisional round this weekend starting with Kansas City
hosting Houston Saturday afternoon. Saturday night on Fox TV eight
pm Eastern Time, Washington, which has won six in a row,
plays at Detroit, which is fifteen to two. The Rams

(31:24):
will be at Philadelphia Sunday three pm Eastern Time. The
Eagles had the league's top ranked defense easily this past
regular season, but Eagles linebacker Nacobe Dean is out for
the postseason now after yesterday's knee injury a torn pateeller tendon.
The late game on Sunday six thirty pm Eastern Baltimore
at Buffalo. Coach Mike McCarthy will not be back with

(31:46):
Dallas his contract is expiring. McCarthy's playoff record in five
years with the Cowboys was one and three. He'll reportedly
interview with the Bears as soon as Wednesday. In the NBA,
the two late games were in Los Angeles. Those teams
resume their skis Edgeles after the fires that started last week.
Lakers were tied going to the fourth quarter against the
Spurs San Antonio wins one twenty six to one oh two.

(32:09):
The Clippers in Inglewood beat Miami one oh nine to
ninety eight. Bam Adebayo and the heat was out with
a bruised back. James Harden twenty six points eleven assists. Today,
Minnesota's Anthony Edwards was fined fifty thousand dollars for have
seen gestures toured an official tonight. Edwards scored forty one
points in Minnesota's win at Washington won twenty to one
oh six. Edwards was seven assists seven turnovers as well.

(32:32):
Washington has lost seven straight games. Toronto ended a five
game losing streak, edging Golden State.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
One oh four one oh one.

Speaker 5 (32:39):
Detroit got thirty six points from Cad Cunningham and a
win at New York. Ten wins in their last twelve
for the Pistons. Houston edged Memphis Jalen Green forty two points.
In college hoops on FS one, Rutgers sent UCLA to
a fourth straight loss seventy five sixty eight wins from
Maryland to Notre Dame aupering the new number one in
the polls, Tennessee fell to number six.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
What did what did Mick Cronan do? Because after every
time you say lose, he seems to be ramping things
up with how upset he is with the team, with
the players. What did he did? Did he close Paul Pavilion?
They play in their games outdoors now at a local
Westwood hoop and or no in Santa Monica him.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
On the sidelines. He's just as upset during victories.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Yeah, so I really post game was great though I
heard his recall and situation and sequencing.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
It's McVeigh like every he be able to.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Call out each individual player as as much as he
did with such a great emphasis.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
Recently he just grouped them all together and said they're soft.
So there is that.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
You know. I got to think at some point we're
gonna be watching a game and McK cronan is just
gonna go, you know what I'm done? Wait, Nick Cronan
is what he's like Antonio Brown. He's gonna quit in
the middle of the game, pull his shirt off. Run,
run in what you say. Losing twenty four to eight
here in the early going, it looks like McK cronin
is out enough.

Speaker 5 (33:54):
We fall into eleven and eight. For my own mental health,
I am stepping aside. By the way, you see, LA
women suits is ranked number one in the country. They
did not have a home game yesterday because Northwestern just
did not travel to Los Angeles last week to play
USC and UCLA. And when the UCLA women do have
a game Wednesday against Penn State is not gonna be

(34:14):
on campus. They'll play it in Long Beach instead because
UCLA still has no in person classes this week as well.
Back to you.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
See, man, I tell you that's I really. We got
to get this under control sometime in the next thirty
six hours. It just has to.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
It was a good weekend for firefighting here right.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Yes, yes, it was. Now we gotta hope the wins
between now and tomorrow Tomorrow night. That's the big thing,
that's the whole game right there. Six o'clock Wednesday is
high noon. We can be still being a good place
at six o'clock Wednesday, I think will be a much
different case. Jason Smith, Mike Carmon, locked the tirec dot
Com Studios coming up next. Well, we're gonna end with
a smile on your face because there's a story from

(34:52):
tonight that we haven't done it yet. But now it's time.
It's time to do this story. I have the Bears
odd for their next head coat. That is not the story.
Oh it's a different story and it's next Fox.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
What do you think? Nineteen seventy five, nineteen seventy seven,
Kansas seventy five, how about twenty twenty four? Sweat?

Speaker 3 (35:26):
So they're just like that other band like that just
stole someone else's sound.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
This band rocks.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
So this is like the rock version of Bruno Mars.
Oh they're gonna steal from everybody else. Oh no, that's
what you do. After taking a step, they got the
organ going, they got it. Oh this bed, these guys rock.
These I just started listening.

Speaker 1 (35:43):
To their music. Oh man, it's like a it's like
a band. No no, no, no, no, it's all Rich's original.
It sounds like crap. Well they made it. It's supposed
to sound like the seventies. Like the whole thing is
to make it sound like that it's the seventies, because
it's a thing. Why wouldn't I just listen to something?
Everybody needs an angle because it's true. Good. Do you
want to hear carry on my wayward Son again? Would
you rather hear that? Yes? Ah?

Speaker 3 (36:06):
The areas of the ways all good because I go
from from carry on my wayward Son into uh, dust
in the wind.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Into point of don't return and then dust. Yeah, all right,
my boy, bloom dust wind dude. Okay, so it was
now I want to go home and watch Supernatural. U Hey,
fake Ruby. Matt never gets old Jensen. Tonight, the Lakers

(36:38):
had a really big night. Right, you sound like the
same band, doesn't they sound like the same band?

Speaker 2 (36:42):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Lakers had a big night retiring the jersey of Michael Cooper,
one of the showtime err Lakers. I did a coach
for a last year coach with the Sparks in and
out of of the NBA. The w n B a.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
Good commentator because like he goes to brass tags man,
he does not mention and a great night.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
You saw the big reunion of all the showtime Lakers
who were there, like it was pretty cool, Like, you know,
how about you, let's do this, you know, let's let's
find some more guys to have their jersey retires.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
We can have nights on Magic Johnson fresh off and
doing all sorts of press.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
Not the Commanders. His jersey's retired.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Yeah, but he said, I'm back because I know what
winning's all about. Look what we did Sunday nights Like no, no, no, no,
this is about your Lakers Magic.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Now part of the plan. There's the reason why we're
end with smiling her face. And it's not because the
Lakers got boat raced by San Antonio. Boy, big night
here celebrating our legacy.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
Yeah, we're celebrating one of the greatest defenders. Wasn't the
game tied going to the fourth quarter?

Speaker 5 (37:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (37:38):
I turned it off. It was ted. What do you
mean they got boat race? Oh yeah, the game ended
after the third quarter. Fourth quarter was just a practice. Yeah,
don't worry about your with me. Yes, uh so, Yeah,
the Lakers lose a night. Okay, but here's here's the
fun part. So the Lakers put out a statement because
they were gonna give everybody who came to the game
tonight a replica Michael Cooper twenty one jersey. Pretty cool. However,

(38:01):
before the game started, the Lakers put out this statement, Tonight,
the Lakers honor Michael Cooper and raise his number twenty
one jersey in the rafters. I think you raise him
to the rafts. But that's okay, whatever semantics. As part
of the celebration, the Lakers planned Past tense planned a
replica jersey giveaway for fans, which was unfortunately produced and

(38:22):
distributed with imperfections. The jerseys will be reproduced and every
fan attending tonight can receive a new one in the
coming weeks. Like what did you say, Oh, we're celebrating
Michael Copper tonight? Is it Michael Copper?

Speaker 4 (38:34):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Oh oh that's bad? Like what imperfections could there? Did
you get the did you get the logo wrong? I
don't know, I mean it was Lakers wrong. Who were
the Lackers? Why is why is there a c in there?
I don't understand? Like what what could you possibly do
to screw this jersey? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Could be a number of things. Maybe they made a
lake show. It's like we didn't have a lake show
during during my time.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Michael didn't play.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
For the South Bay Lighters. He played as Lighters. Let's
get it right, I don't I don't know, what could you?
I really want to know what the improve.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
Maybe they've printed them green with a shamrock. Jerry Seasting
holding his twenty one jersey up to the rafters. But
I don't know who works twenty one for Boss. And
I just said Jerry Seasting that's a nice poll vough.
It could be could be Maxwell. I don't know. I
don't know. Could we shut down? Yeah? Right, Like I

(39:29):
really want to know what this imperfection could have been.
If they leave off a graphic, maybe they leave off
a letter. Maybe you left a letter or two out
of his name. Maybe hey, look what if his logo?
I mean, because sometimes you just see complete misprint. It
can work just coo P. Because we could just say
Coop and everybody gets a Coop jersey. Ah, you're fired

(39:49):
with good reason. I mean, I don't know. Building started
with a P. Mic Oh, I think you still want
those jerseys? Then that's what they did in the fourth
Would you would want that? That is true? This is
my fourth quarter Laker jersey, right. The first three quarters
is the Cooper Jersey. The second last quarter is the Yeah,

(40:09):
it's funny. I like that, that's comedy. Those would fetch
a lot on the secondary markets. Actually get out. Who
are we honoring tonight, Michael Cooper? Then why does the
Jersey say bus on it? Okay, that shouldn't be it? Well,
I figured Genie made this. Okay, all right, fine, okay,
that's we're gonna find out Harmon's brothers stole them all. No,
they had them. They just had perfections all over them.

(40:30):
You're gonna believe them. The Lakers are lying about that.
I didn't say that. Maybe it didn't get there so
rather that's what I'm thinking. But no, No, it says
they were produced and with imperfection. You know what the
marketing says, m perfections and excitement an emotion. Yeah, do

(40:53):
you want one of these other than the other ones? Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (40:55):
I want the fake one? What day was this produce?
Was it on before? January thirteenth?

Speaker 1 (41:02):
Exit out Vyta Fresca Exit Swollen Dome From Mike. I'm
