what's happened in my friend? How are you happy to
be here?

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Apparently ready to put on a better showing than Team
USA did today. I'm about to of these guys, ah
that everything's going well. You're surprised at the Sanford and
Son the old Golden guys are struggling or except for Lebron.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I guess when it matters at the end. He's bailed
him out in the last two games. At least. I'm
more angry.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
I actually owe all the fans of the San Francisco Warriors,
who I used to make fun of on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
You mean Golden State. That's what I meant. Oh, I
have San Francis Golden State.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
I was gonna say, I'm just all the fans in
San Francisco actually used to play in San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
I don't age yourself there, you would just you know.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
I owe them all in apology because I used to
see these people tweeting out there talking about Steve Curry,
this Steve Kerry that he sticks. It's like, play Stephan
this moment, play Stephan that moment. I'm sorry, hand up.
I'm here now, guys, I'm here now. I see all
the complaints, and I get it.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Full of heart.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
I understand wholeheartedly why people were so upset with Steve
Kerr uh know, and fans of the Warriors, I understand.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
All right, let's welcome in the Odd Couple cup. Get
this bad boys started. Rob G of course, is our
producer as always, Steve de Sager. Steve de Sagar is
at the anchor desk. He'll keep us updated throughout the program.
Saga Paratel Patel is our social media guru. That's right, Saga,
thank you, And of course Mary Mary, that's right, Mary

(03:28):
is our engineer. So we have the Odd Couple crew
ready to go. All right, let's start here. So Martin,
Rob G are you on the mic? Rob G? Okay?
So the USA Olympic team was down by two. We
heard it on Steve de Sager's update. Lebron scored with
the last eleven points for Team USA when they almost

(03:51):
lost to South Sudan the other day. Lebron had a
wide open layup in order to win the game by
one point for the Team USA. And now there's another
game that was close. Lebron turns what was a two
point deficit into what a four point win rob g
against Germany. And you know, you could celebrate Lebron and go, oh,

(04:12):
my god, Lebron, here's the best player. My god, thank you,
thank Lebron at almost aged forty years old, he's the
best player. But this is shameful to me, Martin, Really
is it a good sign? Even forget about this Olympics
going forward? Where are the other guys? Where's Tatum? Where's Edwards?

(04:35):
I thought those were the young bucks, those are the
new stars of the NBA. Where are they? Mia? Are
they missing in action? I don't know why Lebron has
to do this at the end for the United States
to beat these teams that South Sudan, they were favored
by forty three points to three, right, forty three and

(04:57):
a half. Have you took South Sudan plus four twenty
three and a half right you were cruising. Most people
probably stayed away from that right forty three and a
half thinking that no way, and that won't beat the
United States? Are you cool Lebron being the guy Lebron
is the star of this team?

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Crazy for me that you asked where Jason Tatum? Where's
Anthony Edwards? To me, staple to the bench in the
second unit for reasons I can't tell. Like the way
that this road deroit, these rotations are set up, Lebron
has been the only one in the starting lineup to
me that shows he still deserves to be in it.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Like I think.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
I think if you surrounded Lebron with Anthony Edwards and
Jason Tatum, Anthony Davis and bam Adebayo, maybe we'd have
a little bit more optionality on the roster. But the
way that Steve curR is running these guys out there
doing these hockey line changes.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Five in five out out of very nice hockey. You know, Yeah,
watched the sport Okay on a casion. Well, I mean,
you grew up to in hockey town, so that's good.
You watch some Wings games.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
They did a few remote broadcasts out there out of there.
By the middle of the second period. But really, you know,
itsdy hockey's good. I went to the Joe many time
my first year in Detroit, went to thirty eight of
the forty one home games. I live right next door.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
To the Joe Louis arinas thirty eight of the forty
one home game and now Joe Louis Arena doesn't even exist. Crazy,
but anyway, jeez, Louise old.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Anyway, Now the way that Steve curR is running out
these hockey line changes, first of all, I don't know
how we're supposed to figure out any level of a
rotation right when you're not playing all, you know, everybody
on a damn roster.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I don't know how he's supposed to do that.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
But when with this starting lineup as it is, Lebron
James is to me the only guy on the roster
that's really taken guys off the dribble. And if you
can't take guys off the dribble in Olympic basketball, you're
gonna be in trouble.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
We've seen the United States go off the slow starts.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Why because they come out shoot a three miss, shoot
a three miss, shoot a three miss, shoot a three miss,
and then.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
That's the NBA they that we played we're in now, right,
and then all about threes. I'm not saying.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Look, sure the game point is incentivized, but right now,
this roster, currently constructive, doesn't have anybody in the starting
lineup besides Lebron who could consistently take people off the dribble.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
And to me, that's part of the problem, and it's
been part of the problem. What not a problem problem
of than not making shots like they're supposed to make
shots too?

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Right, Yeah, I understand that, but when you miss your
four to three out of five shots, maybe it's time
to go to the rim. That's what I'm saying. And
would you see what every time this first unit comes out.
What happened just in the Germany game twenty four to
four or twenty one to four run at the end
of the first quarter. You know what happened with four
minutes left in the first quarter. He subbed into everybody
that's on the bench. If he optimized Steve Kerr, he

(07:42):
optimized the.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Kerr as a bad coach. I don't know what he's doing. Okay,
I don't know what he's doing.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
I'm watching games at the house thinking I don't know
why he's running out the same starting lineup, but I
think if he did optimize the starting lineups, we would
see more action and less lebron.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah, it's puzzling because even throughout the coaching and I
hear your points, all your points are all fair. Still,
the talent and the people that they have should be
able to beat these others countries. Would you agree with that.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
I think that's why they're winning is because of the taroand'
That's what I mean.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
That's the only reason I'm saying if those guys played
up to their ability, and I get it, I'm just saying,
Jason Tatum, Anthony Edwards, like, those are the guys I
thought we would be seeing more of.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
I know that.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I know they're gonna play the other guys, and they're
the veteran guys and it's their last hurrah. So I
get all that, right, I do. I understand that, and
they're gonna start them in that unit that's been getting
off to slow starts and all whatnot. But I still thought,
are they going to be sweating out games? I'm surprised
that they're sweating out games.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
I full I fully, wholeheartedly believe that if they weren't
coming off the bench, those two in particular, if they
weren't coming off the bench and instead it was Devin
Booker and Uh, it was Devin Booker and UH and
Drew Holliday coming off the bench, they wouldn't be sweating
out games. They wouldn't be because they would get out
to a ten point lead in the beginning and everybody

(09:17):
else would lay down because they know they're not supposed
to win these games, right, you know, South Sudan, you
give them hope throughout this entire throughout the.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
First quarter, you give them hope through the second hard
they figured like then, they figured out these guys are human,
we can beat them. Right. Germany the same thing.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
If they come out and do a twenty one to
four run, that's a fifteen point march at the end
of the game.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, you always want to snap, especially a team that
you're better than. You stab their hopes right away and
let them know you're not winning today. Okay, let's just
we're going to let you know right away you're not winning.
So let us make this clear to you. You could
go ahead and play. We know you're gonna have a
run at some point, right you'll make a run at

(09:58):
some point, but you're not winning. And you're right. The
longer you let somebody hang around. We've talked about it before,
the better shot that somebody has of upsetting you because
they build confidence as time goes on.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
All of a sudden, three start bouncing off the rim,
hitting the backboard, falling in.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
The ref makes a bad call. Now it's an and
one found. Somebody drips the ball off their leg.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Right, all of a sudden, you know, one thing after another,
after another after another, and then it just snowballs into Wow,
this forty three point underdog might win.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
This damn thing. Crazy.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
I know it's crazy, but it's really I really do
all an apology to Warriors fancies all those years when
they were winning and had Kevin Durant.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
I'm just like, what are y'all complaining about? Well, but
you always notice too, And I'll say this, people who
are in that city, they know they know better than you.
And I'll tell you. I remember the Steve Mariucci when
he came to the Lions, right, and I remember writing
his column the Savior has a arrived finding the Lions.

(11:03):
How like a football coach who had won had some
you know what I mean, not a Super Bowl but
had some cachet. Sure I got nothing, but you wait
and see from writers out in San Francisco. Yeah, you
wait and see when you watch him coach up up close.
So I was like, what right? And you know that

(11:25):
didn't work out well with the Lions and he wind
up getting fired during that thing. So I do see
what they're talking about because they watch every night.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
But it's just it's mind boggling to me that, like,
how is it in game five you're still starting the same,
Like these are the game you're supposed to figure out
your rotations. And the Steve Kerr after the game said
something about, how you know, oh, we're closer to solidifying
what our rotations are. Look, yeah, do you believe SMO

(11:54):
say is starting to finalize their rotations, which is important
entering the Olympics. The only reason why Anthony Fdavers came
out of the game for the second units because you
picked up two fouls.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
That's it. There were fewers forced to rotate. Guys. He
was literally forced to.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Otherwise you would have still ran they say, five in
five out like we watching hockey at the Joe.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
All right, Yeah, Martin wisse he bothered. I am too,
and we want to hear from you. Eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six

Magic City, Monday eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox

(14:48):
talking about the USA team The thirty nine year old
lebron bailed bailed out the Team USA again? Is this good?

Speaker 5 (14:55):
Bad?

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Or indifferent? We want to hear from you, eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Marty in Kentucky, let's you're on the eye couple on
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
What you got Bud? What's up? Marty?

Speaker 8 (15:06):
Rob? Rob? Was your your ears burning this morning? During
two two two pros and a couple of Why were they.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Ripping on me? What happened? I didn't hear? I never
missed two bro, two pros and a couple of pros?

Speaker 8 (15:21):
Ifs if Chris was up here with you, two guys,
you could you could call it two bros and a
cup of right something. But uh, I'll make a quick
lead to laugh that works on the crew. He he
had a band aid on and and uh, LeVar Arrington
just happened to notice that it was it was not

(15:42):
a band aid for a white man. It was a
band aid for you know, a dark, dark pigmentation man,
he said, he said, very dark, right, And and then
they come up with the theory that that Rob Parker
must have been the guy that got those band aids
and put them in the medical get there, and Zon

(16:03):
has had a great Rob Parker impression. It for You're
gonna have to catch you, you know what.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
That's pretty funny, I guess, right, MLB BRO and UH
Sports Rob Radio, I guess that's what they're saying right
on the.

Speaker 8 (16:15):
Subject at hand. Yes, I think Curry, I really don't
think that he's trying to put the best lineups out
there right now. I think he wants them to understand
that they are going to have to play defense, they
are going to have to play at every style. He
wants them. He wants them to get challenged. I think
he knows he's on the best lineups, I really do,

(16:36):
And I think he wants to wake them up, but
because he don't want them to get shell shocked when
the when the really good competition comes. And I just
feel like that he is filling this team out and
making them understand this is not gonna be a cakewalk
and they're gonna they're just gonna have to man up
and play at every style. I don't think they can
just lean on Lebron in tight games. At the end,

(16:58):
They're gonna play some teams that are very somebody's gonna
step up there when he lowers that shoulder and somebody's
gonna take that hit. It's not the NBA. You don't
get the superstar call, and they're gonna they're gonna get
a charge on him in a big game if they
keep relying on that. And that's just my belief personally, no.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Doubt, Marty, Thank you, my man. Hope River in the
family is good. Thanks for the call, Josh and Arizona.
You're on the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio. Josh,
what's up doing.

Speaker 9 (17:24):
What's appreciate y'all having me on my man.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Thanks for the support. We appreciate you, man.

Speaker 9 (17:30):
I love y'all. I love y'all. And Marty was on
the money. I want to give Kurr the benefit of
the doubt. I don't think he's doing exactly what he's
going to do when they get to the real play.
And he's right about Lebron to that bully ball will
only take him so far in this Olympic play. But
the concerns is this Lebron's playing out of his mind.
I'm not a big Lebron fan, y'all know that. But

(17:53):
it's the Lebron, the Embiid and the Steph Curry all
on the floor at the same time. They're not guarding
anybody boy getting.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Said, Josh, ain't no defense being played.

Speaker 9 (18:03):
It's no defense. They're getting right past and getting to
the pain kicking out. These boys can't shoot, They will
shoot overseas, they can't hit shots. And you can't come
with this lazy defense mentality that the NBA has been
producing for years. You can't play all these older guys
like this.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
Car.

Speaker 9 (18:20):
I hope that you want to get them young guys
in there, mix them in with Lebron and step but
you can't play these guys at the same time. And
last thing I'm gonna go on this one, Lebron is
showing you an image far as far as the American
players in the League of what is to come. How
come none of these young guys can step up? Why
is Lebron the one having to carry these games at

(18:40):
forty years old.

Speaker 8 (18:41):
I got it's scary for.

Speaker 9 (18:42):
The NBA in my opinion far as the Americans going.
And I'm gonna leave y'all at that. Love y'all love
the show.

Speaker 8 (18:47):
Appreciate y'all.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Thank you, Josh, appreciate it. Eight seven, seven ninety nine
on Fox.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
Andre in Massachusetts. You're on the couple Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Ray, what up?

Speaker 8 (18:57):
What's going on?

Speaker 10 (18:58):
Thanks for taking my call to start the week. I'm
excited about this topic. Listen. Attitude reflects leadership. That's what
it comes down for me. And since USA basketball lost
coach K, they haven't been right. Okay, Man's record was
seventy five, seventy six and one. Coach K lost the
game to Grease in six, right, and then he won

(19:19):
three straight gold medals, won three straight World Championships. And
what I mean in that is the redeem Team. It wasn't.
They didn't just lift off. The Redeem Team lost in
six to Greece. Let's remember that. Okay, So it had
the team had time to build together, to grow together.
That's part of it. This roster was essentially thrown together

(19:39):
last summer after the Box won the World Championship because
Lebron was bored and jumped on Twitter and talked about
I'm bringing the team back. So the roster construction, it's
essentially Lebron's. I don't know if you USA Basketball wanted
to go in the direction of having Lebron's buddies who
were over the hill. I E Anthony Davis, I E
Kevin Durant, Yes, I said it, and all the young guys.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
It's not.

Speaker 10 (20:02):
There's there's a there's a split I think in the
continuity in terms of how they play together. And back
to the point about Lebron saving the team, it's time
for Anthony Davis and Jason Tatum.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
To be saving, right, That's what I'm I'm with you, like,
those are the guys who should be doing this. They
should be putting on their capes at the end and
doing what they need to do. Uh not Lebron James.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
The only problem with that is today was the first
time they were on the court and crunch time one
in Pennsylvania, he says, Steve Kurse, not the problem one.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
You're on the hot couple. Explain yourself.

Speaker 11 (20:35):
I appreciate uh bringing me on today.

Speaker 8 (20:38):
I'm actually on the road.

Speaker 11 (20:39):
I'm a truck driver.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
So man, where where are you?

Speaker 11 (20:44):
I'm actually I'm in Pennsylvania, headed down to Virginia right now.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Okay, well, you know I used to live in Wolfsbury
back there. I don't know where you are on Pennciltown.

Speaker 9 (20:51):
Yeah, that's yeah, that's n I'm in.

Speaker 11 (20:54):
I'm in south central Pennsylvania.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
I got it. They're driving.

Speaker 11 (21:00):
What I wanted to say was I kind of wanted
to take you back off of what the last couple
of callers said. I do agree that it is time
to be concerned. However, I also think that this has
a lot to do with the way that the game
is approached today and just how much players have so
much more control over things in regards to like, you know,

(21:22):
no offense, but their feelings and how they feel about
the playing time and you know, being on the court
as much not as much. You know, we had we
had a man say that he was the number one
option and that phisit out after like one and a
half teams, and then you got you know, Jason Tatum,
who's supposed to be a top five player has yet
to really show up other than one game. I don't

(21:44):
blame Lebron for taking over. I kind of feel like
he senses that he has to. I just think that
it's supposed to be a young man's game, but these
young men don't understand that. When you're in the Olympics,
you know, you're not you're not really a.

Speaker 8 (21:56):
Star no more.

Speaker 11 (21:57):
You're you're you're you're a jag. And there's only gonna
to be a couple of guys.

Speaker 10 (22:01):
Every year that are going to carry the Olympic teams.

Speaker 11 (22:03):
Look at all of our gold medals. There's always like
two guys that have stepped up for each of our
teams that have won the gold medal, and everyone else
does their role. But it's harder nowadays to do that
because these young guys, you know, I just think that
they're all a little bit you know, gassed up and
in their own heads about who they think they are

(22:23):
when they're on the court with each other. But the
Olympics is a completely different level. And I think that's
why Steve Kurse taking the time to, you know, throw
out these five guys at a time to see, Okay,
who's going to show up when I put these rotations,
and it's not really about who's starting right now.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
Yeah, thanks, good point. I will say you got that.
Dre and Massachusetts made a good point about Mike Krzyzewski.
I think the fact that Mike Ski wasn't coaching any
of these guys on a daily basis, right, he was
just the Olympic coach probably made him a little bit
made him a little bit easier to go ahead and
make a tough decision in benching a guy or starting
a guy, knowing he not to deal with them after ward.

(22:59):
You know, he's not gonna have to see them on
the court. Like you know, if you've bet somebody now
Steve Kurt worried, you gotta see him.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
And when they come to San Francisco, when you get
to that point, you gotta let that go because it's
it's it's everybody can't play. Everybody's great. That's why you're
on the Olympic team. Somebody's got to sit the bench.
Everybody can't play. Everybody's great in their own right. All right, Uh,
coming up, we're gonna talk some more. We're gonna talk
some more NBA and the TV deal that was throwing

(23:26):
a monkey wrench. We'll talk about that.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Be first, be sure to catch live editions of The
Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at
seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Coming to your live from the tire rack dot Com Studios,
Rob Parker and Martin White's in for the vacationing. Chris
Brussard and Steve just mentioned the contract TV contract that
did not include TNT, and now they're trying to back
their back door, their way back in, you know, by
matching the off. Rob g give us the detail. Sure.

Speaker 10 (24:03):
So.

Speaker 12 (24:03):
It was reported a few weeks ago that the NBA
had settled on a new television rights contract with NBCESPN
and Amazon, replacing TNT as the third carrier. According to
the report, Amazon would be paying one point eight billion
dollars per year for the next eleven years part of
the new contract. However, as per the terms of their

(24:27):
own agreement, TNT and their parent company were given the
right to match any one of those numbers, specifically the
Amazon and NBC numbers, because they would be the new providers.
And today, in a stunning turn of events, TNT's parent
company decided they would match it, which puts the NBA
in a very interesting position. On one hand, they have

(24:50):
two options. They can honor the agreement that TNT was
given the right to match. They match, therefore, we will
stick with TNT, or they can play this out in
court and say we are gonna stick with Amazon instead
because we believe that Amazon has a broader audience reach

(25:10):
than what tn T can provide.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Where are you, Martin Weiss on this?

Speaker 4 (25:16):
I think, Look, I understand that Amazon's got a wider
reach and all this and that, but the ultimate like, honestly,
when I'm watching the playoffs, especially like when I'm watching
the when I'm watching the playoffs, especially the conference finals, I.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Want to hear what Shak, what Shak and Chuck have
to say about it. After the facts retire, I mean,
Chuck is retiring after this. Well, he's retiring because they're
about to mess this up. He said, he's retiring regardless
even if they got it back. That's his words.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
I think we'll see if that money comes right there,
that's what he said. I hear you, But Martin is
saying I think I'm doing on the reported from his
own mouth.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
I think if the.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Money is right, he'll find a way to you know,
the first thing I thought I was out there, pulled
me back in.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
I'm gonna say this, I'm gonna disagree, and I think
the NBA. There's two things at work here. Number One,
TNT's president opened up his pie hole and said that
TNT could survive without the NBA. He's the one who
put that out there. They played a dangerous game of
chicken and guess what they're gonna wind up losing. Yes,

(26:20):
they did this, Like Martin, if you were serious about
the NBA not wanting this to happen, this could have
been nixed in the butt and Amazon couldn't even got involved. Okay,
Like they could have done that and said we're planning
on here's the number, we're gonna give you a new deal.
We're NBA not going anywhere. They played this game. They
didn't want to do it. Okay, Now they got scared

(26:41):
because here comes big bad Amazon, and Amazon is the future,
not TNT. So do if you're the NBA, who do
you want? Amazon's got money left and right. Amazon's Money's
not going anywhere. Do we know TNT that was fumbling
to even keep the All of a sudden they got scared.

(27:01):
Now now they found the money that they claim they
didn't have at first, Martin. And if I'm the NBA,
I'm like, why did you put us through this and
play this game like trying to see if we would
balk at it or we would be afraid to go
somewhere else. The NFL's with Amazon. Amazon is printing money,
They're not going anywhere. They're going to be a player

(27:24):
in this. And if I'm the NBA, do I really
want to piss Amazon off going forward by saying, now
we're pulling the deal back from you. That's all I'm saying.
TNT did this to themselves, But they wouldn't be pulling
the deal back from Amazon. TNT would be matching them.
So it's a little bit of different. So I get
your overarching point. I'm talking about just as a fan

(27:44):
of the game.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
There is only one halftime in postgame show that I
have even any interest in hearing, and it's the inside
the end.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
But but you're you're talking about you don't know how
long they're going to be together. I mean, I get
it on the on the here and now they're I'm
not worried about a postgame show. As far as the
NBA long term, the NBA long term media rights and
who they want to be partners with long term. Chuck
could want to return here you are trying to hold

(28:14):
together TNT. Chuck could retire maybe Ernie says, you know what,
I'm set sixty eight years old. I'm gonna retire, Like
this is gonna come to an end at some point.
I get that. So you can't be based off of that.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
Still got more, They got more more rope, they got
more on the vine, I think, But the reality of
the situation is for me, I hate what ESPN is
done with postgame shows that it's kicking the Sports Center next, Like,
I want to watch a show about what I just watched,
very much like.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Now the HBO whatever.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
After they have House of the Dragons, have inside House
of the Dragons where they explain everything that happened in
the episode. That's what I want now, as as somebody
in this business.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
What I do now, I go to.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
YouTube and just wait until the postgame postgame prescotference to start.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
That's the only postgame show to have any interested in watching.
But it doesn't mean that they can't develop another one,
like they're not going to be around forever. I hear
what you're saying, But when the NBA left NBC. People like,
oh my god, the NBA on NBC was unbelievable. That
was during the Jordan era. Go look, it was unbelievable.
Bob Costas was on there and all these other people,

(29:19):
Peter Vessi and and all that. The NBA, the NBA
on NBC, that that theme song. Everybody was in love
with the coverage by NBC. And guess what, it went away.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
But I think the product has suffered without having Bob
Costas explaining pregame the monumental stakes for Michael Jordan and
the Chicago Bulls up against the upstart Utah Jazz doctor
them alone the best picking roll combo and I'm not
trying to dis but you know what I'm saying, Like,
at a certain point, Rob, I get that we're here
for the games, but dressing up the games around it

(29:50):
pre post halftime, that's a major thing that comes in
with watching these games.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
And I think you would have people who are watching, like.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Your numbers would only get better if you were developing
that shoulder programming around the game.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
My question to you who you're getting in bed with
Amazon or TNT. I'm just talking about just just going
forward as a business person Amazon. Okay, I mean that's
all I'm looking at it. I get the nostalgia with
TNT and what they have and what they've done, but
I'm talking about I got a chance now that they

(30:24):
stepped up to the table. When tn T was playing
this cat and mouse game. Oh go read the quote
we'll be well, don't we can live with we'll we
can live without the NBA. Oh really? I mean I
and I get that, but as a fan, I don't
What was he thinking when when the president of what
is the discovery you want to discover said that, as
Gucci Man once said, you can get lost in the sauce.

(30:47):
That's what that was lost in the sauce.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
What was he thinking?

Speaker 4 (30:51):
He said, Look, sometimes you want to dip, you want
to put your chip in the dip, but sometimes you
can get too much dip.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Don't double dip it. Please vote double.

Speaker 4 (30:58):
As a fan, I don't really care if the NBA
makes quick mask what six point nine billion dollars or
if the NBA makes six point five billion dollars off.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
This TV deal. I couldn't care less. I'm just saying
I want to be entertaining. That's what I'm Yeah, but
I'm talking about the NBA and building a partnership and
looking at they stepped up Amazon. They wanted it. They
put the offer on the table and the TNT for
whatever reason they and you know this, Martin, this is

(31:29):
last minute, Like this one, all of a sudden they
exercised their right to match, you know what I mean?
Like this this is the this is way past. This
is way past when the NBAD already announced their new
broadcast partners Like that's the part that is crazy to me,
Like where were they month ago? They're just trying to
say face they're gonna lose.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
But I will say this in Amazon's defense, the Thursday
Night football broadcast to me, is one outside of Al
Michael's falling asleep in the middle of the second quarter
the Thursday I Football pre and post.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
It's not bad. It's not bad.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
I will keep it on, you know what I'm saying,
Like I won't just automatically turn the Netflix as soon
as the clock is triple zeros good hobby by It,
Oh my god, would you stop?

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Don't get me started? All right? Coming up next here
on the odd couple, hobby by It, what a terrible
be quiet, don't do that all right, first sign, nobody
knows what you're watching. All right. It is the odd
couple on a Magic City Monday. Coming up next. We
got a little check go City and we're gonna talk
some Texans. I know people think that they're going to

(32:32):
take off next year? Is that automatic or j Stroud
as people? Okay, we'll do that and more. It is
the Odd Couple, Rob Parker and Martin wise In for
the vacation at Chris Busar right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Texans first. Let's do a little Shekel City beating Nuds again.

(33:52):
All right, let's do a West Coast Shekel City game,
starting out on that left coach tonight, Dodgers who beat
up on the Red Sox over the weekend. I'm gonna
take the Giants plus one and a half out at
Dodger Stadium beautiful day yesterday there on a Sunday night
baseball broadcast for ESPN. So Giants plus one and a

(34:13):
half runs taking on the Dodgers. I got Houston minus
one and a half taken on the A's and Oakland.
And I'm gonna go with Seattle minus one and a
half at home taking on the Los Angeles Angels. So
the Giants plus one and a half runs, the Astros

(34:34):
minus one and a half, and Seattle minus one and
a half. And remember, Martin Weiss, I'm not telling you
who to bet on. I'm telling you who I bet on.
All right, Rob g the Texan CJ Stroud is talking
and saying what.

Speaker 12 (34:55):
Well, if you ask CJ. Stroud, I've been following in
this offseason, you think that the Houston Texans are the
two time defending raigning Super Bowl champions because a couple
of weeks ago you had Tank Dell say that CJ.
Stroud was on the path were becoming the best quarterback
in all of football.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
And then late last week CJ.

Speaker 12 (35:15):
Stroud himself was talking to the media about this upcoming season,
his expectations, and what he said was, quote, It's not
gonna be easy, It's gonna be harder. We have a
huge target on our back this year. Rob Parker, your
thoughts on CJ. Stroud and the big dog Houston Texans.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
I think he's right. There is a target because last
year people didn't know what to expect. Rookie quarterback, rookie coach.
And it doesn't mean that once they got there and
they started to win that people took them lightly. But
they've watched everything like there's no surprises, and you know
in football, Martin and sports, it's about the second time

(35:54):
around and making adjustments. You have to also make adjustments.
When teams make adjustments, they're gonna see what's c J.
Stroud does best, what he struggles in. What can we
force him into doing more of that part? You know,
that's just the nature of what it is. It's the
same thing with basketball. If a guy's a great shooter,
right and he can't drive to the basket, they're gonna

(36:16):
they're gonna put a hand in his face and make
him drive to the basket, right, exactly whatever it is.
So he is right that this will not be And
last I remember with the Jaguars Martin after they won
that playoff game, they came back against the Chargers, remember what,
They're down twenty eight to nothing, and people thought Lawrence

(36:38):
and that team had taken a step, like they had
made their next step.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
They had the lost to the eventual AFC champions winners
and the City Chiefs that year.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
So people were like, well, wait, wait till next year
and they're gonna be even better. And guess what, it
took a step back. They weren't as good last year.
They were disappointing in fact. So I'm not saying that
for sure are the Texans are going to take that role,
but we have seen at Martin Wood guys have taken
a step back and when you have to make an adjustment.

(37:08):
See Rob g stole my thunder a little bit. I
don't like this whole there's a target on our backs.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Yeah, okay, more people are gonna take you a little
more seriously than they did the start of last year.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
Right, sure, you made the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
When the division won a playoff game, they'll take a
little bit more seriously than they did last year.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
But there's only one team and they see.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
What a target on their back, and that's the back
to back champs, the Kansas City Chiefs. Everybody else is
playing for second right now, Like that's so the idea.
They haven't done anything here, the Houston Texans. It kind
of reminded me a little bit of Shador Sanders saying
that every game that Colorado plays as the other team's.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Super Bowl, Like not so much, yeah so much. Colorado
didn't even have a winning record. I mean like it's
just like that, a little overinflated sets say, yeah, no
doubt about it. And the only thing is all I'm
saying is you ain't sneaking up on nobody. If you're
the Texans, Okay, they know who you are, they know
what you did a year ago. And they're going to

(38:03):
be ready for you. That's all all right. Our number two,
Jordan Love, he's gonna hold out on the packers and
guess what, I'm in love with it. That's right. Stick
and stay
